- 0:04Speaker 2: Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:07Speaker 3: The world's a veget pokers.
- 0:14Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 0:18Speaker 4: deals by a Toyota dot Com.
- 0:24Speaker 5: All right, cold open today. Wow, I'm right into it.
- 0:28Speaker 5: It is Thursday here at Jillette Stadium, and it's a
- 0:33Speaker 5: full crew. It's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Evan, Paul, myself. Uh,
- 0:38Speaker 5: it's Jules and Matt in the booth. So we're gonna
- 0:41Speaker 5: talk about everything that's going on. Obviously, yesterday was the opening,
- 0:46Speaker 5: the official opening of free agency, and uh, we're going
- 0:51Speaker 5: to talk about the Calvin Ridley situation. But you know,
- 0:54Speaker 5: I first, let's just get everybody up to speed, maybe
- 0:57Speaker 5: Deuce or Evan with a list of so far the
- 0:59Speaker 5: move MO so far.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh God, you want all of them?
- 1:02Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yesterday, No, I want all of them.
- 1:04Speaker 6: I got a whole list I got.
- 1:06Speaker 7: I'm gonna run right down on offense re signed Hunter, Henry, uh,
- 1:11Speaker 7: Chuck Chucks got God.
- 1:12Speaker 6: I don't got that one down. It's a kor of four.
- 1:16Speaker 7: Kendrick Bourne, three year deal, Tonio Gibson three year deal,
- 1:18Speaker 7: Michael and won You three year deal, Jacoby Brissett one
- 1:20Speaker 7: year deal, Jalen Rager one year deal, Austin Hooper one
- 1:23Speaker 7: year deal, and Nick Leverett.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Is that Hewst? Is it?
- 1:26Speaker 7: Clevert Leverver Lever Leverette an offensive lineman. We're not sure
- 1:31Speaker 7: on the terms on those one yet. On the defensive
- 1:33Speaker 7: side of the ball, Kyle Dugger was hit with the
- 1:35Speaker 7: transition tag, Sioni Taki Taki with a two year deal,
- 1:38Speaker 7: Josh Ucha a one year deal three million dollars, and
- 1:42Speaker 7: Forty Jennings a three year deal worth twelve million dollars
- 1:44Speaker 7: with a max of twenty four And finally, yesterday's defensive
- 1:47Speaker 7: line signing Arman Watts a one year, three million dollar deal.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I like the Watts.
- 1:52Speaker 7: I like Watts too. I like Watson Jenning. Those are
- 1:54Speaker 7: my two favorite moves.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Watson Watson, talkie talkie. Don't don't sleep on them. I'm
- 2:00Speaker 1: saying that they're Hall of Fame players, but I'm going to.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Sleep on talking talking.
- 2:04Speaker 7: I'm going to sleep on them because I think he's
- 2:05Speaker 7: like the fourth flynebacker and he's not gonna play over
- 2:07Speaker 7: Penley or to buy and.
- 2:08Speaker 6: That's possibly a little bit on him.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But I like different staff. I like Watts, and I
- 2:13Speaker 1: think that comparing him to Laurence Guy would be inaccurate.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I think they're much different players. I think Watts is
- 2:19Speaker 1: a much more disruptive pass rusher than Lawrence Guy was.
- 2:23Speaker 1: If Watts was on the Patriots last year, the only
- 2:26Speaker 1: guy with the higher pass rush win rate on the
- 2:28Speaker 1: Patriots last year was Christian Barmore. So he can get
- 2:30Speaker 1: after the quarterback a little bit. So I'm excited about it.
- 2:33Speaker 5: So they've made a lot of moves, you know, whether
- 2:36Speaker 5: it's bringing back their own people or building that middle class.
- 2:39Speaker 5: You know, the if you want to call at the
- 2:42Speaker 5: back end of the roster, that's fine, but you've got
- 2:44Speaker 5: to do that.
- 2:45Speaker 8: You know, why are you looking at that? Wasn't me
- 2:47Speaker 8: that made that noise that I think at me?
- 2:51Speaker 5: Those are things in addition to trying to get the
- 2:55Speaker 5: splash free agents. You have to do those things.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Too, sure, but let's just say it.
- 3:00Speaker 6: It's disappointing.
- 3:01Speaker 7: It's disappointing.
- 3:01Speaker 6: You had a lot of money, so I wanted.
- 3:03Speaker 5: To get that out first. You know what they've done
- 3:06Speaker 5: so far, they still have a lot of money to spend,
- 3:08Speaker 5: and I hope they spend. It very disappointing that they
- 3:11Speaker 5: didn't get Calvin Ridley. And I could tell you that
- 3:14Speaker 5: probably no one's more disappointed than the football staff. I mean,
- 3:18Speaker 5: they wanted to get him, and they swung and they missed,
- 3:23Speaker 5: you know, so all these people, well, it's very clear
- 3:25Speaker 5: that the Patriots are going to be you know, building
- 3:27Speaker 5: through the draft.
- 3:28Speaker 1: No.
- 3:29Speaker 5: No, they tried to get Calvin Ridley, you know, and
- 3:31Speaker 5: I assume that they're not done. They'll probably try to
- 3:34Speaker 5: do something else now, whether it's a trade or whatever.
- 3:37Speaker 5: But they tried to do something in free agency and
- 3:42Speaker 5: they missed and they failed.
- 3:44Speaker 7: I liked that they offered a competitive you know. I
- 3:47Speaker 7: mean the reports are that they were in the ballpark,
- 3:49Speaker 7: so it shows that they understood we need to get
- 3:51Speaker 7: a guy. I'm not that disappointed about not getting it.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Was Calvin Ridley a franchise altering receiver.
- 3:57Speaker 5: No, but he'd be the best receiver run.
- 3:59Speaker 7: But it's part of though, it's part of the whole
- 4:01Speaker 7: picture though for me, and that's you know, and it's
- 4:02Speaker 7: certainly a big piece of it.
- 4:03Speaker 6: You know.
- 4:04Speaker 5: What disappoints to me the most is if you got Ridley.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Not that it solves your wide receiver, but it takes
- 4:12Speaker 5: less pressure off the draft to get that. So now
- 4:15Speaker 5: maybe you can get a receiver in the third round
- 4:17Speaker 5: to compliment Ridley. Now I'm thinking, oh, geez, we we
- 4:22Speaker 5: got to spend a second round pick at least on
- 4:24Speaker 5: a wide receiver or if not. Yeah, So like now
- 4:28Speaker 5: you go into the draft with needs with more needs
- 4:34Speaker 5: because you didn't solve one problem through a free agent.
- 4:37Speaker 1: That's what we were talking about on catch twenty two
- 4:39Speaker 1: is just that it makes it you can't You only
- 4:41Speaker 1: have so many premium assets, so you can't hit on
- 4:45Speaker 1: every single position with a premium asset in the draft.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So now you really have a major need at quarterback, tackle, receiver,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and you really didn't bridge it at all. Right, so
- 4:55Speaker 1: which spot takes priority is a big thing. But you know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: to your point about the free agency spend, right now,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they've shelled out the third most cash in free agency
- 5:03Speaker 1: out of any team in the league. So it's not
- 5:05Speaker 1: that they haven't spent money, they just haven't spent money
- 5:08Speaker 1: in the places where it's an exciting place to spend money.
- 5:11Speaker 5: But they feel the cheap well they tried, I mean
- 5:14Speaker 5: report is they had like a twenty million dollar off
- 5:17Speaker 5: around the table like twenty two when he went for
- 5:19Speaker 5: twenty three.
- 5:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean yeah, like, no, it's hard.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I don't know I would have like matched that if not.
- 5:26Speaker 5: But maybe he just wanted didn't want to come to
- 5:29Speaker 5: New England, wanted to go to Tennessee because there's less
- 5:32Speaker 5: income tax.
- 5:33Speaker 9: And remember when you guys used to make fun of
- 5:34Speaker 9: me for talking about taxes.
- 5:36Speaker 8: No, I didn't know, actually, and in all seriousness, I
- 5:38Speaker 8: don't remember making fun of anybody about that.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I mean, it's a huge.
- 5:41Speaker 5: When all things are even those things come into play.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah. He also is base camps in Florida, So Nashville
- 5:48Speaker 1: is a lot closer to Florida than Boston is, so
- 5:51Speaker 1: there's you know, still they're still in the southern region
- 5:53Speaker 1: of the country down there, So I think that there's
- 5:56Speaker 1: there's a lot of elements of location involved, whether it's
- 5:59Speaker 1: financially or just physical.
- 6:01Speaker 5: You know. Okay, so should the Patriots have well for
- 6:04Speaker 5: twenty four to twenty five. I think now you're getting
- 6:06Speaker 5: into like crazy land for a guy like Ridley. You
- 6:08Speaker 5: know now that it's not our money. I get it,
- 6:11Speaker 5: but like at some point. You have to have principles,
- 6:15Speaker 5: you know, because you have to set a precedent. You know,
- 6:18Speaker 5: you can't you can't be Daniel Snyder, you know, back
- 6:21Speaker 5: in the day, just throwing out money. So I don't know,
- 6:26Speaker 5: it's it is disappointing, though I'm not gonna say, oh,
- 6:29Speaker 5: well it's okay. Well, you know, it's not okay. Now
- 6:32Speaker 5: we need a receiver, you know.
- 6:34Speaker 7: I mean, it's you know, it's just I mean, we
- 6:36Speaker 7: built it up too, We've you know, we thought that
- 6:38Speaker 7: there was going to be some splashes. I think some
- 6:39Speaker 7: of the things that were said in the lead up to.
- 6:41Speaker 6: It with that there would be some splashes. You know what.
- 6:44Speaker 7: I think what's disappointing is just there's not a lot
- 6:46Speaker 7: of juice thinking about who we're going to be watching
- 6:48Speaker 7: in the spring, who we're gonna be watching a training
- 6:49Speaker 7: camp right now, and it's certainly all focuses on the
- 6:51Speaker 7: draft now and how much has changed with that. Not much.
- 6:55Speaker 7: They need to hit on the top three picks like
- 6:57Speaker 7: they need to hit on them, and it's even more
- 6:59Speaker 7: glaring now that they need those.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Are really the only valuable assets they have right now
- 7:03Speaker 5: is picks one, two, and three. You know all they
- 7:07Speaker 5: could trade, Well, they can trade, but now you're probably
- 7:09Speaker 5: gonna have to give up one of those valuable assets.
- 7:12Speaker 5: That's the problem. Yeah, that's the problem. Ridley was free
- 7:15Speaker 5: and clear. All you had to give him was money.
- 7:18Speaker 5: You didn't have to give up one of those assets.
- 7:20Speaker 5: So it is disappointing. I can't.
- 7:23Speaker 1: They have probably fifty five million dollars in cap space
- 7:28Speaker 1: and they have nobody to give it to. Yeah, like
- 7:30Speaker 1: the talent, you know, other than Tyron Smith who sounds
- 7:33Speaker 1: like he's ring chasing, So I don't know if that's
- 7:35Speaker 1: gonna happen.
- 7:37Speaker 8: Have you heard something? I mean, but have you heard
- 7:39Speaker 8: much about him? Because I don't really see much about him.
- 7:42Speaker 1: No, I haven't in terms of where he's gonna go
- 7:45Speaker 1: and stuff. No, but once Jodah Williams went last night,
- 7:48Speaker 1: which is another one that you know. I'm scratching my
- 7:51Speaker 1: head on that one too. It's reasonable money for what
- 7:55Speaker 1: we're talking about now. You draft to tackle at sixty
- 7:57Speaker 1: eight because you have somebody that can start for the
- 8:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty four season. It's not an immediate need.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I know one. I've said it on this show many times.
- 8:05Speaker 5: No one's a bigger fan of Tyrone Smith than I am.
- 8:08Speaker 5: But he has a lot of baggage. And I don't
- 8:10Speaker 5: mean like off field stuff. I mean how he has
- 8:13Speaker 5: to be handled practice wise, medically. He's he's always has
- 8:19Speaker 5: something going on with him. And you know, from what
- 8:22Speaker 5: I've read, the Cowboys really bent over backwards for him,
- 8:25Speaker 5: like giving him extra days off.
- 8:28Speaker 7: You know, did you just hear all this stuff like
- 8:29Speaker 7: now in the last couple of weeks or has this
- 8:31Speaker 7: been like.
- 8:32Speaker 5: No, I've always known what I've always known, good Mike, No,
- 8:35Speaker 5: I know I've always known about you know, his issues.
- 8:38Speaker 7: Because I saw pop up and he kind of clapped
- 8:40Speaker 7: back on Twitter and said, you know, yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 8: I'm not injuries or injuries like you get like sort
- 8:46Speaker 8: of what's the right word, concessions made in terms of
- 8:51Speaker 8: your practice.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Schedule because you hurt?
- 8:53Speaker 6: Yeah, Like is he not?
- 8:55Speaker 8: You know, like to me, a lot would be like
- 8:58Speaker 8: going way back the way back machine. Bill Belichick used
- 9:02Speaker 8: to give Roman fight for you know, the beginning of
- 9:04Speaker 8: the week off so you could go home to see
- 9:06Speaker 8: his kids.
- 9:06Speaker 5: That's that was the condition in signing here.
- 9:08Speaker 8: You know, Like that to me is not that I'm
- 9:11Speaker 8: saying that Roman Fifer was a bad person.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Because he was going on with family.
- 9:17Speaker 8: Well, by the way, Roman fight for one of the
- 9:19Speaker 8: nicest men who's ever walked through that locker room. But
- 9:21Speaker 8: I'm just saying that's a concession that not everybody yet.
- 9:24Speaker 8: If you're hurt and they say, you know what, we
- 9:27Speaker 8: need you one hundred percent, we want you to make
- 9:29Speaker 8: sure you take care of your body. That's Willy McGinnis. Yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 8: but for Bill Belichick, don't worry about practice as much.
- 9:35Speaker 5: These things with Smith are affecting his play, like he's
- 9:38Speaker 5: not the guy he used to be.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Now he's had some nagging injuries, like he hasn't played
- 9:42Speaker 1: every game.
- 9:44Speaker 8: He doesn't pay, He's not going to play seventeen games,
- 9:46Speaker 8: that's for sure.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Now, but I don't think he's you know, Trent Brown
- 9:50Speaker 5: in terms of attitude like that was an issue. I
- 9:53Speaker 5: think that's.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Not the That to me is baggage.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, So maybe it's the wrong word, but
- 9:59Speaker 5: he's not, you know, playing at the high level that
- 10:02Speaker 5: maybe he's looking for in terms of money, but he
- 10:05Speaker 5: also could be ring cho.
- 10:06Speaker 8: So Evan brought up Jonah Williams and then to get
- 10:10Speaker 8: him the Cardinals like, oh, DJ Humphries is that the possibility.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Man, Like, now we're getting back into like the Riley
- 10:18Speaker 1: Reef Calvin Anderson has, has he slipped that far? I
- 10:21Speaker 1: don't think spin was. I don't think it's sort of
- 10:24Speaker 1: hard like they, you know, Chucks the Corps for is
- 10:27Speaker 1: a little bit better than Calvin Anderson and Riley Reef was,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and DJ Humphries is probably a little bit better, but
- 10:33Speaker 1: we're still in the same general ballpark of like that's
- 10:37Speaker 1: just sort of what you're left with, you know, that
- 10:40Speaker 1: sort of thing. So now that's a concern, and you
- 10:42Speaker 1: know the Ridley thing, Yeah, I understand, and people are
- 10:47Speaker 1: gonna blow it off. And I've already seen people blowing
- 10:50Speaker 1: it off. You know, I wouldn't pay him that much
- 10:52Speaker 1: money either, Like at some point, like I'm both encouraged
- 10:57Speaker 1: in disappointed at the same time because what i'd and
- 11:00Speaker 1: Mike said about their aggressiveness. I would I do look
- 11:04Speaker 1: at that.
- 11:04Speaker 8: I kind of looked at going into free agency saying
- 11:07Speaker 8: I don't want the twenty one thing. I don't want
- 11:09Speaker 8: eight or nine different you know, big splashy moves that
- 11:12Speaker 8: never works. But I do like one targeted kind of guy.
- 11:16Speaker 8: They targeted this guy and if that's right with Albert
- 11:19Speaker 8: Breer reported and I don't know that it is. But
- 11:21Speaker 8: if it's right that they offered twenty two and you
- 11:23Speaker 8: lose them for twenty three, that's disappointing to me. I'm
- 11:26Speaker 8: excited that they looked into them to that level, but
- 11:29Speaker 8: I'm disappointed that, you know, and I don't want to
- 11:32Speaker 8: get back and relitigate our argument from Tuesday, but maybe
- 11:35Speaker 8: if you don't resign Kendrick Boyn, there's a couple extra
- 11:37Speaker 8: million that it would have taken to get Calvin.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Ridley, and I would have liked that.
- 11:41Speaker 8: Yes, I don't think it's Heidget's fans are going to
- 11:43Speaker 8: completely blow that off and say, you know, they're gonna
- 11:47Speaker 8: sign maybe Marquise Brown and say, whould you rather have
- 11:52Speaker 8: Ridley at twenty three or Brown at fifteen.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Or whatever it ends up being. And I would say,
- 11:57Speaker 1: Kelvin Ridley, I want the better play.
- 11:58Speaker 5: But I don't think it's a matter of the total budget,
- 12:01Speaker 5: and if you didn't sign Born, you'd have more to sign.
- 12:03Speaker 5: I think they look at it as how much are
- 12:06Speaker 5: we giving this player right? And and are we setting
- 12:08Speaker 5: a bad precedent by giving overpaying that much on this guy?
- 12:12Speaker 5: Because I don't think it would have the deal wouldn't
- 12:14Speaker 5: have got done if you matched Tennessee. I think you
- 12:16Speaker 5: had to go significantly over it.
- 12:19Speaker 8: I don't think you did, at least you were. I
- 12:21Speaker 8: think you had to significantly beat Jacksonville. I don't think
- 12:23Speaker 8: you had to significantly beat Tennessee because Tennessee's like you.
- 12:26Speaker 1: No.
- 12:27Speaker 5: But but again the other the other things, like the incomesto.
- 12:32Speaker 8: Give them a half a million more. Yeah, I think
- 12:35Speaker 8: if I don't have to significantly blow that. Like Jack,
- 12:38Speaker 8: I think he wanted to stay in Jacksonville. So to me,
- 12:41Speaker 8: I'm finding out now Jacksonville was under twenty. That to
- 12:44Speaker 8: me is a big gap. Three or four million. That's
- 12:46Speaker 8: a biga.
- 12:47Speaker 9: That's why I wonder if we were just like a
- 12:49Speaker 9: leverage play for him, and all of us getting our
- 12:52Speaker 9: hopes up, was just so he could put himself in
- 12:54Speaker 9: a better position.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I don't know it's possible. I think his agent, David Marlgatta,
- 12:59Speaker 1: I've mentioned before, one of the best in the business,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and the stallin. We all thought it was because of
- 13:04Speaker 1: the trade compensation with the Jaguars, and that at four
- 13:06Speaker 1: oh one he was just going to sign back and
- 13:08Speaker 1: with Jacksonville. But they that's an old agent trick that
- 13:11Speaker 1: he pulled. Let's just wait and wait and wait. And
- 13:14Speaker 1: then the Titans got crazy and threw threw him out
- 13:18Speaker 1: a bag out of nowhere, and here we are now.
- 13:20Speaker 5: I heard like somebody say, you know, Calvin Ridley, he
- 13:23Speaker 5: doesn't want He said that he doesn't want to play
- 13:25Speaker 5: in the cold. It gets cold in Tennessee. It's not
- 13:28Speaker 5: like he's playing in Florida.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, everywhere, but Florida really and listen.
- 13:34Speaker 8: I would also like to see what the Patriots twenty
- 13:36Speaker 8: two looked like, because this is basically that's true. This
- 13:40Speaker 8: is basically a fifty million dollar deal, right, but how
- 13:43Speaker 8: much which to me, it's not that's not a lot
- 13:45Speaker 8: of money.
- 13:46Speaker 5: That's a good point in how much of the Patriots
- 13:49Speaker 5: twenty two was Guaranteed's guaranteed? And that's a that's everything,
- 13:54Speaker 5: and that might be everything, and that might be a
- 13:56Speaker 5: big difference.
- 13:56Speaker 8: People might look at and say, well, you off at
- 13:57Speaker 8: twenty two, they offered twenty three, Like what are you
- 13:59Speaker 8: going to do?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:01Speaker 8: Maybe right, but they might have been doing like some
- 14:03Speaker 8: of these other deals that that you're looking at, and
- 14:06Speaker 8: it's like all.
- 14:07Speaker 1: These roster bonuses, per game roster bonuses, and they're still
- 14:10Speaker 1: very incentives. Is very big on all of these.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Same with Bourne's too, I think is that it could
- 14:17Speaker 6: be eight.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But with Bourne he's coming off of twenty a cl
- 14:21Speaker 1: so I understand that. But even Anthony Jennings got a
- 14:23Speaker 1: huge incentives.
- 14:24Speaker 8: From twelve to twenty four, mighty double his twelve to
- 14:27Speaker 8: twenty four is a big difference.
- 14:28Speaker 7: I just say though, though the part for me people
- 14:30Speaker 7: talking about, well they missed out on Ridley. Who's the
- 14:32Speaker 7: next receiver unless you're going to trade for a big dog,
- 14:35Speaker 7: I don't need Tyler Boyd, Like it's just another one
- 14:37Speaker 7: of these guys I'll take about.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But they've shown interest in now I'm zero just like
- 14:42Speaker 1: Tyler because he's the pure slot receiver that's agent like that.
- 14:46Speaker 7: I think he's a little you want to talk about
- 14:48Speaker 7: trading for t Higgins, I'll listen to, like acquiring that
- 14:51Speaker 7: kind of player, you know, like guy I love, but
- 14:54Speaker 7: I don't need another.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Oh I've heard of him.
- 14:56Speaker 7: He's like they need a guy. And I think that's
- 14:59Speaker 7: part part of it too, is like you don't have
- 15:01Speaker 7: a cornerstone of this free agency class. You don't have
- 15:03Speaker 7: someone to roll out there right now and be like
- 15:05Speaker 7: this is the guy that's show, you know, like that
- 15:07Speaker 7: gets fans excited, And look, they're doing it the way
- 15:11Speaker 7: that methodically, and there's probably a good chance they're gonna
- 15:14Speaker 7: just have to take it up the tailpipe. Next year,
- 15:15Speaker 7: we're gonna be back in the top ten and they're
- 15:17Speaker 7: gonna have another chance to get some guys. But you know,
- 15:20Speaker 7: I just I think we all kind of hope that
- 15:21Speaker 7: there would be at least a couple pieces that you'd
- 15:23Speaker 7: be like a new piece to get.
- 15:26Speaker 1: One or two.
- 15:27Speaker 8: Yeah, So then next year when you're in a similar spot,
- 15:30Speaker 8: more than likely those are two things you don't need.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 15:33Speaker 8: I hear a lot on the radio like, well, you're
- 15:35Speaker 8: not going to be very good, so those guys aren't
- 15:37Speaker 8: going to be around, Like why could Calvin Ridley not
- 15:40Speaker 8: be part of the next good Patriots team?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Right? I would also just say that, you know, I've
- 15:45Speaker 1: always said this about DeAndre Hopkins, like it's a commulative
- 15:48Speaker 1: effect of like, Okay, now you have Calvin Ridley, and
- 15:52Speaker 1: now you stack a good receiver in the draft on
- 15:54Speaker 1: top of Calvin Ridley. Now the quarterback comes in Drake
- 15:57Speaker 1: May comes in and he's got Calvin Ridley to throw
- 15:59Speaker 1: the ball to, and he's got you know, Ricky Pierce
- 16:01Speaker 1: aw to throw the ball to, and all of a
- 16:02Speaker 1: sudden you have an offense Like that's how this all
- 16:04Speaker 1: comes together.
- 16:05Speaker 8: Let's get really crazy and have Evans thing happened, And
- 16:08Speaker 8: then to Mario Douglas emerges as a really solid, complimentary
- 16:12Speaker 8: piece r in a role that I think we'd all
- 16:14Speaker 8: agree is probably best suited for him. Yeah, as you know,
- 16:17Speaker 8: a third or fourth guy in the slot.
- 16:18Speaker 5: And when it gets time to pay one of those
- 16:20Speaker 5: guys like Douglas or whoever you draft the big money
- 16:23Speaker 5: you get rid of, you get rid of Ridley, and
- 16:26Speaker 5: then you draft another young guy.
- 16:27Speaker 1: You know.
- 16:28Speaker 5: So that's the way it works.
- 16:29Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 16:30Speaker 7: I mean I'll preface this with I kind of like
- 16:33Speaker 7: what they've done on defense. I think, you know, there's
- 16:34Speaker 7: still a couple of pieces out there that I think
- 16:36Speaker 7: they could add that could give them a little bit
- 16:37Speaker 7: of a boost. But I think what I'm really most
- 16:39Speaker 7: concerned about is that weren't for repeat last year's offensive line,
- 16:42Speaker 7: which is just especially when you're thinking about a rookie
- 16:45Speaker 7: quarterback like like, what are we doing? Are we talking
- 16:47Speaker 7: about Calvin Anderson. We're like crossing our fingers and hoping
- 16:50Speaker 7: he's going to be the left tackle this year.
- 16:52Speaker 5: You know, I hate to say it, but I'm hoping
- 16:54Speaker 5: that the coaching is better than last year. I don't
- 16:57Speaker 5: think that there was a lot of coaching support the
- 17:00Speaker 5: offensive line last year. I think it was a second thought.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think it was David Andrews and James Farrens. I'm
- 17:08Speaker 1: not saying it's fair. I'm with Mike though this We
- 17:11Speaker 1: don't talk enough about the offensive line, and I know that,
- 17:14Speaker 1: like it's not the most exciting thing to talk about,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but they have not gotten any better on the offensive line,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and Chucks the corrifour is not fixing the offensive line,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and now all they've done is brought back Mike on
- 17:26Speaker 1: Winny chucksa corri for is a third tackle in this league.
- 17:29Speaker 1: He's not a starter. He's a third tackle. I know
- 17:31Speaker 1: he started a lot of games, but he's not that level.
- 17:35Speaker 1: They're probably not going to get Tyrone Smith, Jonah Williams
- 17:38Speaker 1: goes to Arizona. There's really nothing else on the market
- 17:41Speaker 1: in terms of free agents, so it's that part of it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Is is definitely scared.
- 17:46Speaker 7: And then like one more thing just to like kind
- 17:48Speaker 7: of annoying, is like people are like, well, you just
- 17:50Speaker 7: play a Corps four left tackle. I mean, Paul touched
- 17:52Speaker 7: on this, and like, you know when you will be
- 17:53Speaker 7: right tackling, like nobody's playing in the right position, Like
- 17:56Speaker 7: why how is this going to be better?
- 17:57Speaker 1: Helped me out? Has he ever played left? He maybe
- 18:00Speaker 1: like a couple of snaps, but really on a regular basis,
- 18:03Speaker 1: not since college was seven years ago, by the way,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I mean.
- 18:07Speaker 8: Bill Bill told told us that a million times. It's
- 18:09Speaker 8: not as easy as just switching sides right and and
- 18:12Speaker 8: the guy has never played left tackle, expecting him to
- 18:14Speaker 8: play left. As Evan said, he's kind of a journeyman
- 18:17Speaker 8: right tackle.
- 18:19Speaker 7: Right right, And so I I just don't get it.
- 18:22Speaker 7: I mean, I think, you know, I'm fine with letting
- 18:24Speaker 7: cold Strange compete the gid they brought in from Tampa Leverette,
- 18:27Speaker 7: which I was.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Like, loveritt, you know, a little evertt, little flair evert
- 18:29Speaker 6: for you.
- 18:29Speaker 8: Another guy f former practice squad guy, another guy why yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 8: he like, even you don't trust or so to compete
- 18:37Speaker 8: with Strange.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I looked at him. Why not.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a lot of money.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Fifty three guys in the rock.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's fine. He's not a roster.
- 18:47Speaker 8: I feel like they have a lot of guys like
- 18:49Speaker 8: that on the interior.
- 18:50Speaker 1: They don't.
- 18:51Speaker 8: If if this guy was a tackle, I would friend,
- 18:53Speaker 8: I would say why not if he was a tackle?
- 18:56Speaker 8: But he's kind of he started like a hand of
- 19:00Speaker 8: games only because of injury one year. Other than that,
- 19:04Speaker 8: he's been a practice squad, fringe roster player in Tampta.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 7: I mean you're looking at a Frankenstein offensive line right now,
- 19:10Speaker 7: which look but as Evan laid out, frank like Frankenstein,
- 19:14Speaker 7: you're taking.
- 19:15Speaker 5: It should be really because Frankenstein was the Fraankenstein.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Sorry you like that ball? He seemed like I started
- 19:23Speaker 6: a chord with the kind of Frankenstein.
- 19:26Speaker 7: I mean that's what it felt like. And I mean,
- 19:28Speaker 7: you know, the online pundits are just, well, just put
- 19:29Speaker 7: him there and then you know when he was playing
- 19:31Speaker 7: right tacklem not his best position and c C will
- 19:33Speaker 7: be the right guard, and he was okay, like like
- 19:35Speaker 7: what are we doing if we're really talking about having
- 19:37Speaker 7: a rookie quarterback at number three right?
- 19:40Speaker 8: And I would I would hope they think more of
- 19:43Speaker 8: Cole Strange, Mafy so Jake Andrews than Nick LeVert. I
- 19:50Speaker 8: would hope they think more of those guys, the homegrown guys.
- 19:53Speaker 8: And if they don't, I think that's something to be
- 19:55Speaker 8: concerned about. Like I said, if he was a tackle,
- 19:57Speaker 8: he'd make a lot of sense. You got to have
- 19:59Speaker 8: some guys a compete response.
- 20:01Speaker 5: I just want to go into twenty twenty four with
- 20:04Speaker 5: someone that's not easy to defend. You know what I mean?
- 20:09Speaker 7: Well, I don't want to hear that unless it's a
- 20:11Speaker 7: rookie third round ride receiver. I think that train is slowly.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Just watch something that other defensive coordinators have to plan.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You can get that on Day two of this draft.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It's just that they also have quarterback and tackle. Our
- 20:27Speaker 1: premium needs also high.
- 20:30Speaker 6: A tweet the last day.
- 20:32Speaker 8: You would have thought they would be able to fill
- 20:34Speaker 8: a need in free agency so they could concentrate on
- 20:37Speaker 8: the other two in the draft.
- 20:38Speaker 1: To go into the draft. Needing all three still is disappointing.
- 20:42Speaker 6: Yeah, disappointing, And.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Like I said, yeah, trade market is still available, but
- 20:47Speaker 5: now you're going to have to give up probably one
- 20:50Speaker 5: of those three assets you have to and.
- 20:51Speaker 8: It wouldn't have been a permanent fix, you know, Like
- 20:54Speaker 8: even Tyrone Smith isn't a permanent fix. He's a he's
- 20:57Speaker 8: a twenty twenty four fix.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Right yea.
- 21:01Speaker 8: But like there was some creative things I think they
- 21:04Speaker 8: could have done. Like the Jets, their offensive line is
- 21:07Speaker 8: every bit as much in shambles as the Patriots. Right,
- 21:10Speaker 8: they have one guy that they like in Vera Tucker,
- 21:12Speaker 8: just like the Patriots have a win you But they
- 21:16Speaker 8: went out and made a move to get Morgan Moses back. Now,
- 21:19Speaker 8: Morgan Moses is not Tyron Smith in his prime. He's
- 21:22Speaker 8: not a stud tackle, but he's played tackle in the league.
- 21:25Speaker 8: It's a guy that played there before. They probably feel
- 21:29Speaker 8: okay about him. Like even a move like that would
- 21:31Speaker 8: have made me feel better than you know, a corps
- 21:34Speaker 8: of four trying to say, well, can he play left tackle?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Well, probably not, He's never done it. Yeah, him playing
- 21:40Speaker 1: right tackle to begin the year with a rookie waiting
- 21:43Speaker 1: in the wings is not the worst thing. I'm okay
- 21:45Speaker 1: with that. But you would have had to have signed
- 21:47Speaker 1: a Jonah Williams or someone like that to play the
- 21:50Speaker 1: other spot. So that's that's the part that I just
- 21:52Speaker 1: don't really see how it comes together. Is that you
- 21:56Speaker 1: don't you don't have. You have zero starting tackles right
- 21:58Speaker 1: now unless you're counting on Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 8: If you had somehow like not had yourself in a
- 22:03Speaker 8: position where it's going to be a quarterback probably at three,
- 22:06Speaker 8: if you could have you know, Joe alt or.
- 22:09Speaker 1: A fashion now fush fashing.
- 22:16Speaker 8: Plug and play like you draft those guys in the
- 22:18Speaker 8: top ten, plug and play left tackle, and then it's
- 22:21Speaker 8: survival of the fittest at left guard. Whoever is the
- 22:24Speaker 8: best out of those guys, David Andrews, Michael when you
- 22:27Speaker 8: and then you got a quarter four to you know,
- 22:29Speaker 8: while you're waiting for someone better, that's at least a
- 22:33Speaker 8: big step toward addressing your offensive line. No one's expecting
- 22:37Speaker 8: the Patriots. I hear this a lot too, like it's
- 22:39Speaker 8: a quick it's not a quick fix. It's a big rebuild. Yes,
- 22:43Speaker 8: we all agree. No one's expecting to go from four
- 22:46Speaker 8: and thirteen to thirteen and four. I mean, at least,
- 22:49Speaker 8: I don't. I don't know how you guys feel. I mean,
- 22:51Speaker 8: there's a lot of work to be done, but at
- 22:53Speaker 8: least that would show you some progress. What they've done
- 22:57Speaker 8: right now to me is they've cut a couple of
- 23:00Speaker 8: guys that didn't fit factor into their immediate plans that
- 23:03Speaker 8: replaced them with either the existing guys that were already
- 23:07Speaker 8: here or Watts uh, you know for for a guy
- 23:11Speaker 8: you know you know inside they even know a different style.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And that's it right now, like that.
- 23:17Speaker 5: There needs to be more and the person getting the
- 23:19Speaker 5: most heat is Matt Judon.
- 23:23Speaker 6: It is funny how I saw it.
- 23:25Speaker 7: Like once he was like, I love Matt Judah, but
- 23:26Speaker 7: he's got to be over one hundred on the show.
- 23:28Speaker 6: Stop that.
- 23:29Speaker 7: It's just like and then he did like, well, Mat
- 23:32Speaker 7: Wilson is like announcing his like goodbye to New England.
- 23:34Speaker 6: He's like, come back to New England.
- 23:35Speaker 5: You think I.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Appreciate the humor, but I wonder if he even knew.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I like the T Higgins one just got off the.
- 23:41Speaker 9: Phone with the best part of that was look at
- 23:42Speaker 9: God at the end of the sign off.
- 23:44Speaker 6: I was like, we gotta is funny.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It's just not It's just not funny right now.
- 23:48Speaker 6: No, it's not funny now.
- 23:49Speaker 7: And I think, just like what you were saying, though, Paul,
- 23:51Speaker 7: two of of you know, it's not going to turn around,
- 23:53Speaker 7: it's like, can we just at least try to put
- 23:55Speaker 7: something in place to protect this rookie quarterback that's that
- 23:58Speaker 7: we want to get in there, or what's gonna what
- 24:00Speaker 7: I don't want to help happen.
- 24:02Speaker 8: Yeah, two years from now, we're sitting here saying they
- 24:04Speaker 8: have a lot of holes to fill, like I want,
- 24:08Speaker 8: let's just say they have ten holes to fill right now.
- 24:11Speaker 8: I want next year they're only to be eight holes
- 24:12Speaker 8: to fill, and then in two years, maybe there's only
- 24:14Speaker 8: five holes to fill. Like I I'm not looking for
- 24:18Speaker 8: ten to get filled all at once with a magic
- 24:21Speaker 8: act of wow, hall of Fame or at first round pick,
- 24:24Speaker 8: hall of Fame, second round pick. That's unrealistic. But right
- 24:28Speaker 8: now it's like the draft or bust.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it also feels like, you know, to your point
- 24:33Speaker 1: about which quarterback is gonna get killed behind this offensive
- 24:36Speaker 1: line next year, you're either in a position where you're
- 24:38Speaker 1: drafting a quarterback at three to sit him because you
- 24:41Speaker 1: don't want to throw him into this, or you're not
- 24:43Speaker 1: taking the quarterback at all because you're not ready for
- 24:44Speaker 1: the quarterback. So it's like, now we're in this position too,
- 24:48Speaker 1: where if they draft Drake May at three overall. He
- 24:50Speaker 1: already has you know, some people saying he should sit anyways,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and now you're going to throw him into this mess
- 24:55Speaker 1: Like now he is sitting for an entire year.
- 24:58Speaker 7: Lead us to the top overall, pickch Kobe bris that
- 25:00Speaker 7: next year, and there we'll have Drake punk Drake mayon
- 25:03Speaker 7: there and whoever number one overall is now.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Yeah, So I don't think. I don't think not getting
- 25:09Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley, however, affects what we think the Patriots are
- 25:12Speaker 5: going to do in the draft. We still think they're
- 25:14Speaker 5: going to take the best quarterback available at number three.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I mean, if I had to bet on it, yes,
- 25:19Speaker 1: But I think trading down makes it becomes more of
- 25:22Speaker 1: a sensible thing to do. Hey, what's the quarterback picking
- 25:26Speaker 1: to do? Unless you really think that that guy is
- 25:28Speaker 1: a franchise quarterback?
- 25:30Speaker 5: Yes, but you're picking him at three you think he's
- 25:33Speaker 5: a franchise court I didn't think that. If you don't
- 25:36Speaker 5: think that, don't then trade down.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think trading down because of what I just said,
- 25:40Speaker 1: what's he going to have to work with here next year?
- 25:43Speaker 5: Well, that's that's his problem right now. If you have
- 25:47Speaker 5: a chance to get a franchise quarterback you must take,
- 25:50Speaker 5: you must do.
- 25:51Speaker 1: It, Okay, But the franchise quarterback still has to have
- 25:54Speaker 1: a good supporting cast and a good foundation.
- 25:56Speaker 5: Around him, Okay, And I get it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Otherwise he'll get happy feed and get sped up and
- 26:00Speaker 1: we'll be in the same pen and what comes first.
- 26:02Speaker 5: But if again, we'll figure that out. But if you
- 26:06Speaker 5: have the chance to get the guy, you've got to
- 26:08Speaker 5: get the guy.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I don't disagree. I just think that if they if
- 26:11Speaker 1: they're in this position and they really don't do anything
- 26:14Speaker 1: between now and the draft to change the.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Equation, he's gonna have a hard time.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I'm sitting him on the bench.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Maybe you do that.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just not putting him out there.
- 26:23Speaker 5: I'm just saying, if you believe whoever's there at three
- 26:26Speaker 5: is a franchise guy, you must take him and watch
- 26:31Speaker 5: him get killed and or sit him or whatever, but
- 26:35Speaker 5: you must make him part of your team.
- 26:38Speaker 7: I agree, it's but it's I mean, it's rough thinking
- 26:40Speaker 7: about Jacoby Brissett. This offensive line, like Kendrick Bourne comes back.
- 26:46Speaker 7: But I mean, now you don't even really have a
- 26:48Speaker 7: Parker to at least throw out there on the outside.
- 26:51Speaker 7: For some kind of presence like and I'm not saying
- 26:53Speaker 7: I'm a Parker fan, but I mean they're worse on
- 26:56Speaker 7: offense right now than they were, you know, and we're
- 26:59Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, we're day.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I don't know, DeVante Parker might have been a ditioned
- 27:02Speaker 1: by subtraction.
- 27:03Speaker 7: And I think there's an argument to be made for that.
- 27:05Speaker 7: And you know, I mean I heard I heard Badard
- 27:08Speaker 7: Bernard talking a little bit about some of that stuff,
- 27:11Speaker 7: you know, where they better today, which I just know
- 27:12Speaker 7: it was kind of a stupid question just because they're
- 27:14Speaker 7: right in the midst of it at that at this moment.
- 27:17Speaker 7: But it's you know, it's hard. It's hard to see
- 27:20Speaker 7: how this offense is going to, you know, really make
- 27:22Speaker 7: any strides right now.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Let's think about it a different way. We know how
- 27:26Speaker 5: the Patriots ended up in twenty twenty three. Can we
- 27:29Speaker 5: remember where they were in twenty twenty three in March
- 27:34Speaker 5: as compared to now and what we were thinking in March.
- 27:36Speaker 6: They've gotten juju?
- 27:38Speaker 1: They juju kasiki. Yeah, brought back everybody.
- 27:42Speaker 7: On Calvin Anderson.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Eliminate myself from the conversation. Okay, I remember what I
- 27:48Speaker 1: was saying, you you would he was correct. I remember
- 27:51Speaker 1: how I was getting mocked.
- 27:52Speaker 6: Oh right, yeah, well.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Or maybe better now, I don't know, not by you guys. Okay, now,
- 27:59Speaker 1: you were right about Juju one hundred percent. And I
- 28:01Speaker 1: think that that's one thing you look at that it
- 28:04Speaker 1: made me so interested in Calvin Ridley was that he
- 28:07Speaker 1: did get a lot of those one on one matchups
- 28:10Speaker 1: against good man coverage because they kept playing him at
- 28:13Speaker 1: the X receiver spot for some reason. So it wasn't
- 28:15Speaker 1: Juju running into voids of space of off coverage and
- 28:19Speaker 1: just catching the ball because everybody else, you know, created
- 28:21Speaker 1: all this space for him. He Calvin Ridley, when you
- 28:24Speaker 1: watch his tape from Jacksonville last year, was winning on
- 28:27Speaker 1: routes like by himself, you know. So that's why I
- 28:30Speaker 1: thought that it was worth it. But where they were
- 28:33Speaker 1: last year, I think the one guy that I would
- 28:35Speaker 1: just say in free agency that's still out there, I
- 28:38Speaker 1: would go after Mike Williams. I would pay Mike Williams.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not paying him twenty million dollars a
- 28:43Speaker 1: year like Chargers just did, but in terms of who's
- 28:45Speaker 1: still available on the market, he's the one guy that
- 28:48Speaker 1: that would give me any sort of in.
- 28:50Speaker 8: Him too, absolutely, And I just what the frustrating thing.
- 28:54Speaker 8: I guess with the money, you know, he I think
- 28:57Speaker 8: he's now like according to those sites like over the
- 29:01Speaker 8: Cap and those, I think Ridley becomes like the tenth
- 29:03Speaker 8: highest paid receiver in the game. Now, he's not a
- 29:06Speaker 8: top probably not a top ten receiver for the moment,
- 29:09Speaker 8: but he's probably ten to twenty. He's probably somewhere in
- 29:12Speaker 8: the twenty, number one, number two. This time next year,
- 29:16Speaker 8: he's going to be in the twenties for because all
- 29:18Speaker 8: of those guys are going to get as Evan likes
- 29:20Speaker 8: to say, the bag right, like Justin Jefferson, just CD Lamb,
- 29:25Speaker 8: you know, like she's going to be Jamar Chase. These
- 29:28Speaker 8: guys are all going to be up Higgins are. They're
- 29:30Speaker 8: all going to get They're all going to get paid, right.
- 29:33Speaker 7: Nobody's gonna want to get paid first though, you know,
- 29:35Speaker 7: like everybody's gonna want to wait somebody else.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Jefferson, Chase In Lamb, Yeah, probably all My guess is
- 29:42Speaker 1: that Jefferson will have to go first because he's going
- 29:44Speaker 1: to make the most. I think Jefferson could push forty
- 29:47Speaker 1: million a year.
- 29:49Speaker 7: Like he's in the Texas, like in Minnesota.
- 29:52Speaker 1: I don't know, but the most in Minneapolis or St.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Paul.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I guess, like the the CAAP adjusted number of tire
- 30:00Speaker 1: he kills contract is thirty six point six million, So
- 30:03Speaker 1: that's just the starting point for Minnesota on justin Jefferson.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So if he is in a situation where he's got
- 30:11Speaker 1: like multiple options or something like that.
- 30:14Speaker 8: And who's his quarterback, Sam Darnold, that's not our problem.
- 30:18Speaker 8: I'm just saying that's probably why he's not going to
- 30:20Speaker 8: be there much longer.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 30:21Speaker 7: Do you think that's like they're going to make him
- 30:22Speaker 7: have a down year so they can low ball them.
- 30:26Speaker 1: That'll work. I mean, he kind of had a down
- 30:28Speaker 1: year last year because he was a Hurst hurt, but
- 30:29Speaker 1: when you look at the per game averages, he would
- 30:32Speaker 1: have had another two thousand yard season if he had
- 30:34Speaker 1: played the whole year.
- 30:35Speaker 5: You know, I'm about to probably go down the rabbit
- 30:39Speaker 5: hole here with Paul.
- 30:40Speaker 6: Let's strap in.
- 30:41Speaker 5: You know, we know that every year the cap is
- 30:44Speaker 5: going up a lot, to the point where you know
- 30:46Speaker 5: it's getting easier to manipulate it because the cap is
- 30:49Speaker 5: going up. But do you think even with those increases,
- 30:53Speaker 5: with the increases of these positions. Do you think the
- 30:58Speaker 5: importance of the cap might three years from now four
- 31:01Speaker 5: years and they'll start to come into play again, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 5: because they I don't the chunks that you're paying two
- 31:08Speaker 5: or three guys on your on your roster, is that
- 31:12Speaker 5: is such that it's taking up a higher percent.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But look at it.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Look at the Patriots right now, they've got fifty million
- 31:18Speaker 7: in space. They have no one to spend, you know.
- 31:22Speaker 7: But there'll be a lot of teams that don't have
- 31:24Speaker 7: those guys, you know, So I don't know. I mean,
- 31:25Speaker 7: there certainly might be a problem for a couple of teams,
- 31:27Speaker 7: but let's don't have the guys.
- 31:29Speaker 8: I think people only look at the fancy, flashy numbers,
- 31:32Speaker 8: and I think wide receiver right now is going in
- 31:35Speaker 8: an astronomical direction. People don't talk about running back.
- 31:39Speaker 5: That's true. That's gone to.
- 31:40Speaker 8: Tight end safety safety like a lot of the other
- 31:44Speaker 8: numbers are.
- 31:44Speaker 1: You know, we're kind of going the other way.
- 31:46Speaker 8: Even corner, yeah, even corner. Uh, there's there's not as
- 31:50Speaker 8: many of those now. I think that some of it
- 31:53Speaker 8: is cyclical, But I think it's hard to make an argument.
- 31:58Speaker 8: And I know you weren't making You're just bringing up
- 31:59Speaker 8: a point Freddy that the higher the cap goes, eventually
- 32:05Speaker 8: it's going to come more into play. Like if the
- 32:08Speaker 8: cap keeps what was it like fourteen percent.
- 32:10Speaker 1: This year thirty million increase, but I.
- 32:12Speaker 8: Think it was like a fourteen percent increase of something
- 32:14Speaker 8: crazy like that, if it continues to grow, and there's
- 32:17Speaker 8: no reason to think it won't, Like this revenue is
- 32:20Speaker 8: not going to go anywhere.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Well, it's not going to make this big of a jump.
- 32:23Speaker 1: It made this big of a jump because of the
- 32:24Speaker 1: new TV deals, right, so now every year is.
- 32:28Speaker 8: And what they're going to do, in my opinion is
- 32:31Speaker 8: they're going to continue to search for ways to add Amazons.
- 32:36Speaker 8: Oh yeah, and that's going to be.
- 32:38Speaker 1: More and more. Just wait till the playoffs.
- 32:40Speaker 8: The other the other part that helped this year be
- 32:42Speaker 8: so big was that influx from the COVID year that
- 32:45Speaker 8: they all paid back or whatever, and that allowed it
- 32:48Speaker 8: to jump up. Listen, it's all business stuff that no
- 32:51Speaker 8: one cares about, least of all me. But I just
- 32:53Speaker 8: feel like the cap is at a point now where
- 32:57Speaker 8: it's just kind of there and it's all about the
- 32:59Speaker 8: kind of money you want to spend.
- 33:01Speaker 5: But knowing these owners at some point they're gonna be like,
- 33:04Speaker 5: we gotta, we gotta get this under control.
- 33:08Speaker 6: They're making more money though, yeah, you know it.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Just I don't even understand why we have a cap anymore,
- 33:14Speaker 1: Like if you here the NFL, like the luxury tax
- 33:17Speaker 1: system is like why why are we still acting like
- 33:21Speaker 1: the cap is real? Like it's a it's a fake number.
- 33:24Speaker 8: Both both in football and basketball. Like I don't really
- 33:27Speaker 8: understand why the existence. Well, Coney, I get it for
- 33:29Speaker 8: two reasons. Number one, the NHL is not nearly as
- 33:32Speaker 8: profitable as the other three sports, so they don't have
- 33:35Speaker 8: that that kind of revenue.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But it's actually a cap.
- 33:39Speaker 8: If you want to tell me the importance of controlled
- 33:42Speaker 8: spending the owners feel so strongly about it, then put
- 33:45Speaker 8: a real cap in and make it a four year,
- 33:49Speaker 8: twenty million dollar deal. Is five million a year, doesn't
- 33:52Speaker 8: matter how you want to do it. You can pay
- 33:53Speaker 8: them twenty million in the first year, but it's gonna
- 33:55Speaker 8: cost you five million a year for four years on
- 33:58Speaker 8: the cap. Whether we play, whether he doesn't play right,
- 34:02Speaker 8: that's the NHL. It's a real hardline cap. That's how
- 34:06Speaker 8: it's done. The only loophole in the NHL is long.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Term, I ar and and that guy can't play, and
- 34:13Speaker 1: like multi team trades with brokers and stuff, but that
- 34:16Speaker 1: we don't need to bug down the show. But in general,
- 34:18Speaker 1: you sign a guy to a deal and the life
- 34:22Speaker 1: of the deal, you can pro rate it. You can
- 34:24Speaker 1: do whatever you want. The cap is treated evenly. The
- 34:28Speaker 1: NBA is start like, the NBA has aprons now, so
- 34:32Speaker 1: you know, so it's it's it's thresholds for the luxury tax,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and the Celtics are one of the teams that are
- 34:39Speaker 1: in the upper apron. So with GROSSBEC has to cut
- 34:42Speaker 1: a check every single year to pay for Jason Tatum
- 34:45Speaker 1: and Jalen Brown and so on and so forth. So
- 34:47Speaker 1: that like it's not quite the same way as baseball,
- 34:50Speaker 1: which is is truly uncapped basically with the luxury tax threshold.
- 34:54Speaker 1: But the cap number in the NFL is fake. The
- 34:57Speaker 1: real cash money is the one that's real. So you
- 34:59Speaker 1: have teams that are under the cap at two fifty
- 35:01Speaker 1: five but are paying three fifty for their roster, so
- 35:05Speaker 1: like you know that, and they don't get in other
- 35:07Speaker 1: leagues you get penalized for that in money.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Well, yeah, in our league, you take one hundred million
- 35:12Speaker 5: and you spread it out in other years.
- 35:14Speaker 1: You just in our league, you just burn the cash, like,
- 35:18Speaker 1: you know, okay, so we have we're in cap jail,
- 35:21Speaker 1: so we're just gonna convert this guys to a salary bonus.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And Josh Allen just created the bills sound like you
- 35:27Speaker 1: don't really have sixty million dollars in cap good all
- 35:31Speaker 1: of a sudden out of you know, overnight, Now the
- 35:33Speaker 1: bills are cap not only cap compliant, but they have
- 35:36Speaker 1: cap space.
- 35:38Speaker 6: It's just like what do we do with mame?
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yeah, same thing, not not quite as much money, but
- 35:43Speaker 1: same thing.
- 35:44Speaker 8: Moved and found some space, right and like you know, oh,
- 35:46Speaker 8: they sign him this huge deal. And that's the other
- 35:49Speaker 8: part of this is and I think it's really smart
- 35:51Speaker 8: the way these teams do it is like the big,
- 35:54Speaker 8: the really big contracts makes it easier to do stuff
- 35:58Speaker 8: like that, like oh, yeah, we used to do it
- 36:00Speaker 8: with Tom till year that they would restructure and give
- 36:04Speaker 8: him like thirty million.
- 36:06Speaker 5: Yeah, we used his We use this contract like a
- 36:09Speaker 5: mortgage with that yes, you know, yes, make your money.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I think it was one year and.
- 36:14Speaker 8: You got like fifty two million, and they they added
- 36:17Speaker 8: a year or two and they spread it out, but
- 36:19Speaker 8: he he gets the money. So it's great for the
- 36:22Speaker 8: player and it works for the cap. Yeah, all right,
- 36:26Speaker 8: that's your cap Talk eight five five Pats five hundred
- 36:30Speaker 8: is the Aceticket hotline. Web radio at Patriots dot com
- 36:33Speaker 8: is the email address. Got a lot of emails coming in.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Anything else you want to talk about, whether it's the
- 36:38Speaker 5: league or Patriots or anything anything on the table. No,
- 36:47Speaker 5: oh yeah, oh because of Yeah, I mean, I don't
- 36:52Speaker 5: think anyone was surprised, right, No, you know, we had
- 36:55Speaker 5: some people say, oh, you need to have an emergency podcast.
- 36:57Speaker 1: No, I mean some people.
- 37:00Speaker 5: No, I mean, in all fairness, it wasn't just internal
- 37:03Speaker 5: was I get some tweets about it, But I don't
- 37:05Speaker 5: think it rose to the level of it because we
- 37:07Speaker 5: knew it was going to happen.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Can we just like for now, like emergency, a big
- 37:12Speaker 7: name comes to the Patriots, like to talk about if
- 37:17Speaker 7: it's a big name that leaves the Patriots, we're probably not.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Going to cut emergency podcast.
- 37:21Speaker 8: It was it might have been the original, but the
- 37:25Speaker 8: if if the Patriots lost a.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Big name, I'd be in favor of.
- 37:30Speaker 5: Yeah. Now they don't have any big names.
- 37:33Speaker 8: It's kind of hard to like, if in all seriousness,
- 37:36Speaker 8: like and I'm not.
- 37:36Speaker 7: Kidding, like Patriots gets traded, that might that to me,
- 37:42Speaker 7: might of what we got back?
- 37:43Speaker 1: How about far more they left? How about if bar
- 37:46Speaker 1: Moore got traded?
- 37:47Speaker 5: Oh, that would be on alleged podcast can be doing
- 37:50Speaker 5: it from.
- 37:51Speaker 8: But I'm just trying to like tell you, like example,
- 37:54Speaker 8: it's not out of the Roman possibility that the guy
- 37:56Speaker 8: going into the last year of his contract gets traded.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I mean, let's face these things happen sometimes.
- 38:00Speaker 7: That's where they and not realistically that you're.
- 38:04Speaker 8: Going to have this fifty million in cap space. He'd
- 38:06Speaker 8: be a guy that I'd be.
- 38:07Speaker 5: It's something that comes out of the knock on door
- 38:09Speaker 5: that we weren't expecting a big deal.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Do you think do you think they use some of
- 38:13Speaker 7: that money for Dougger to try to get out of
- 38:15Speaker 7: that tag and try to give him some kind of
- 38:18Speaker 7: extension or some kind of deal.
- 38:19Speaker 6: I don't think he's going to buy out.
- 38:21Speaker 5: I don't think it's a matter of using some of
- 38:23Speaker 5: that money.
- 38:23Speaker 1: If they if they can roll it over.
- 38:26Speaker 5: Yeah, But if they felt like Douger was worth fifteen million,
- 38:29Speaker 5: I think they give him fifteen million. But I don't
- 38:31Speaker 5: think they do.
- 38:32Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, there's a report out there that they
- 38:35Speaker 1: thought he they offered him around thirteen AAV. The tag
- 38:40Speaker 1: is thirteen point eight, so it made sense to use
- 38:42Speaker 1: the tag because that's how they valued him. Anyways, And
- 38:46Speaker 1: you haven't heard anything about him having a market as
- 38:49Speaker 1: of right now, so I think that tag it for
- 38:51Speaker 1: now might have somehow scared some teams off that might
- 38:55Speaker 1: have been interested.
- 38:56Speaker 5: And but going back, you know to what you were
- 38:59Speaker 5: saying reaction on Mac, I think it's the best for
- 39:04Speaker 5: both parties. You only got a six round pick. I
- 39:06Speaker 5: don't think you could have really expected much more, you
- 39:10Speaker 5: know than that. And and I hope he does well.
- 39:12Speaker 5: He's going to back up, you know, Trevor Lawrence.
- 39:15Speaker 7: I mean, it's a good situation where he's from.
- 39:17Speaker 5: It's good good he'll.
- 39:18Speaker 6: Back up Lawrence.
- 39:19Speaker 7: He might get a chance if Lawrence, you know, gets hurt.
- 39:21Speaker 7: He thought through a lot of injuries last year, and
- 39:23Speaker 7: he'll hit the market next year and I'm sure some
- 39:25Speaker 7: team will take a chance on him.
- 39:26Speaker 5: So good luck, I know, the whole Bailey Zappi was
- 39:31Speaker 5: kind of a topic on Patriots Twitter today, like what
- 39:34Speaker 5: do you do with Bailey zappy.
- 39:35Speaker 8: You get off that seriousness like that stuff?
- 39:39Speaker 5: How do you get off Patriots?
- 39:40Speaker 1: Twitter? Yeah, following. I don't follow people an algorithm?
- 39:48Speaker 9: Is it coming into like your side algorithm top for
- 39:52Speaker 9: you hit following?
- 39:54Speaker 1: But you're your algorithm. You're still taught. You never you
- 39:57Speaker 1: can't get rid of it.
- 40:00Speaker 8: I know what I'm talking about. The young The young
- 40:02Speaker 8: people know quick algorithm aside.
- 40:04Speaker 7: For some reason, I don't really go on Facebook much,
- 40:06Speaker 7: but for some reason I get fed plain turbulence videos
- 40:09Speaker 7: like and I cannot stop getting plaining turbulence videos, and
- 40:13Speaker 7: like I don't want to watch them, but like every
- 40:14Speaker 7: time I look at like the short thing, it's like,
- 40:16Speaker 7: oh look at this turbulence, Oh my god, huge drop.
- 40:19Speaker 7: Get I don't know it's driving me.
- 40:20Speaker 6: Away from Facebook, but playing turbulence. I don't know why.
- 40:23Speaker 1: And now you're speaking about it.
- 40:25Speaker 7: I know my phone is like more plain turbulence, better
- 40:28Speaker 7: better than my algorithm on Facebook. I don't want to open.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Facebook.
- 40:38Speaker 5: It's all guys from the Jersey named Mike.
- 40:41Speaker 6: How you doing.
- 40:42Speaker 8: I don't get a ton of I played the fifth
- 40:44Speaker 8: Facebook stuff. I don't get a ton of crap. But Twitter,
- 40:47Speaker 8: I'm not even.
- 40:48Speaker 5: On Facebook, I'm old.
- 40:50Speaker 7: I just kind of look at it from time to
- 40:52Speaker 7: time to see what the people I didn't even talk
- 40:54Speaker 7: to when high school are doing. Like it was a
- 40:56Speaker 7: nice novelty like right out, you know, like when it
- 40:58Speaker 7: came out, and like, oh, look at what all these
- 40:59Speaker 7: people from high school doing. Announce Remember why you talked?
- 41:02Speaker 7: I don't care what they're doing anymore.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Like the sad part is is that that's Facebook's demographic now,
- 41:08Speaker 1: Like it used to be the young gins when it
- 41:10Speaker 1: first started, but now the demographic is people that want
- 41:13Speaker 1: to reconnect with high school or stay connected to high
- 41:15Speaker 1: school friends in college friends. It's always old for me.
- 41:18Speaker 4: But yeah, Evan doesn't want us to know he's stuck
- 41:21Speaker 4: in Connor McDermott.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Oh, okay, I like Connor McDermott. All right, But one
- 41:27Speaker 1: more thing about the Patriots Twitter thing. I don't know
- 41:30Speaker 1: if this is just me, but the the Bailey Zappi
- 41:33Speaker 1: workout videos that I've been seeing with with with the
- 41:39Speaker 1: like the cast of the cast of Misfit Toys besides
- 41:42Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne, Like, I I guess popped out this. Okay, sorry,
- 41:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but I'm sorry, and I think
- 41:50Speaker 1: maybe it's just because he stinks and like, I can't
- 41:52Speaker 1: get that out of my head. But the Bailey Zappi,
- 41:54Speaker 1: I'm not anywhere near mean, by the way, the Bailey
- 41:57Speaker 1: Zappi stuff irks me a lots me a lot like
- 42:01Speaker 1: it because it started with him. It started with.
- 42:04Speaker 9: Him everybody workout in the off season.
- 42:06Speaker 1: No, no, no, it's documenting it. Like at first it started
- 42:09Speaker 1: with with liking the mac Jones trade tweet. Wait, which
- 42:14Speaker 1: that's that. That was where it started. The turn started
- 42:16Speaker 1: for me, And at that point I was like, no,
- 42:19Speaker 1: I'm already done. Then we're posting workout uh you know,
- 42:22Speaker 1: videos and throwing passes there five yard passes and dart
- 42:26Speaker 1: dart to Taekwon Thornton, Like I want both of them
- 42:29Speaker 1: off my football team, So I don't really care. I'll
- 42:32Speaker 1: tell you I'm not anywhere nearest. It's also like the
- 42:38Speaker 1: just the look, the vibe like that you get is
- 42:39Speaker 1: like he thinks he's starting here. This stuff I don't
- 42:43Speaker 1: have a problem.
- 42:43Speaker 8: With with Zappy per se, Like, and this might be
- 42:46Speaker 8: the first time in the history of the show that
- 42:48Speaker 8: I'm not as worked up as someone else's about some random,
- 42:51Speaker 8: insignificant thing Like I have a very crazy thing. And
- 42:55Speaker 8: I used to say the same thing when we used
- 42:57Speaker 8: to get inundated with Brady videos in Montana. Rember Brady
- 43:03Speaker 8: Brady the best who ever did? I have a crazy
- 43:06Speaker 8: assumption that I make with professional athletes in general, but
- 43:10Speaker 8: NFL players specifically. I think they do a pretty good
- 43:13Speaker 8: job of working out.
- 43:16Speaker 1: But the Montana videos are great because he was good.
- 43:21Speaker 8: Operated that these guys don't roll out of bed and
- 43:25Speaker 8: show up the first day of training camp and become
- 43:27Speaker 8: the greatest player who's ever played. But I don't need
- 43:31Speaker 8: to see you throwing passes in your backyard to Danny
- 43:35Speaker 8: and Mendola, and I certainly to Evan's point, do not
- 43:38Speaker 8: need to see Bailey Zappi throwing darts.
- 43:42Speaker 1: But what the kids.
- 43:46Speaker 8: Do, it doesn't have to be shown on my because
- 43:50Speaker 8: because I don't get off, I do not follow any
- 43:53Speaker 8: of those people.
- 43:56Speaker 5: But you're missing the business end of it. Their feeds
- 43:59Speaker 5: are their business, that's their brand. So whatever they can
- 44:03Speaker 5: do to get more followers, they're going to do it.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Do you know what they should do, Bailey Zappy, put
- 44:07Speaker 1: your head down, go to the gym without the cameras,
- 44:10Speaker 1: in silence, and actually show up a camp like you
- 44:13Speaker 1: are a starting quarterback in the NFL. So I again,
- 44:15Speaker 1: not anywhere near as mean as him. Thank you Newt Rock.
- 44:19Speaker 8: So I want to ask Alex so who is putting
- 44:23Speaker 8: the video out.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I've only sounds like Kendrick.
- 44:26Speaker 9: I've only seen Kendrick Bourne putting videos. They're all out
- 44:29Speaker 9: there with Kendrick in Portland. I think they were at
- 44:31Speaker 9: the Nike headquarters yesterday, so the four of them.
- 44:34Speaker 7: Taekwon.
- 44:35Speaker 8: Theoretically, I'm getting it because I follow Kendrick Kendricks.
- 44:39Speaker 9: Yeah, Kendrick has a vlog.
- 44:41Speaker 7: He always has like.
- 44:42Speaker 9: Please video guys around him, and Kendrick has a lot
- 44:45Speaker 9: of brand.
- 44:45Speaker 1: But it's like stuff. You know, this is a business
- 44:49Speaker 1: for them.
- 44:49Speaker 9: They make money off their.
- 44:50Speaker 1: So I don't have any problem with them doing that
- 44:52Speaker 1: for it.
- 44:53Speaker 9: No, they probably make money from the gym.
- 44:55Speaker 8: The problem everyone's talking about the reaction to the videos
- 44:59Speaker 8: is insanity.
- 45:01Speaker 7: Well, yeah, Taekwon Thorne looked bulked up.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Though, man serious, exactly the same. He's bulked up, went
- 45:11Speaker 1: a twig. So he has a little the end of
- 45:14Speaker 1: last year in the locker, Evan, you could go, I
- 45:15Speaker 1: could show you tweets from this time last year, people
- 45:17Speaker 1: saying the same thing in the locker room at the
- 45:20Speaker 1: end of the year. Last year, he looked the same
- 45:21Speaker 1: exact way, the same way he's he's It's just that's
- 45:25Speaker 1: his frame. It's his frame. Just get Pop Douglas away
- 45:29Speaker 1: from those people, please.

- 47:05Speaker 4: As I think back over the past few seasons, I
- 47:08Speaker 4: wanted to thank my most trusted Game Day teammate, Tostitos.
- 47:13Speaker 4: As I recall the last minute grocery runs in late
- 47:17Speaker 4: night dishwashing, the salty defeats and spicy victories, I realize
- 47:23Speaker 4: it was all thanks to my teammate, Tostitos. It was
- 47:27Speaker 4: always you, Tostitos. Team up with Toastitos the official Chip
- 47:33Speaker 4: and Dip of the New England Patriots.
- 47:37Speaker 11: And we are back with another edition of the PU
- 47:39Speaker 11: Halftime Show. I'm joined by Chris Cassidy. It's me and
- 47:42Speaker 11: a chiefs ballman, and we haven't done one of these
- 47:44Speaker 11: for a while, right, it feels like we're Chris. Now,
- 47:48Speaker 11: we're in Indy, you know, scouting out some of the
- 47:50Speaker 11: prospects for the year as free agency season, draft season.
- 47:53Speaker 11: But as always, we're gonna start off with some trivia.
- 47:56Speaker 11: I think we have some shirts left. Don't worry, you're
- 47:57Speaker 11: gonna win something if you get these rights. Send you
- 48:00Speaker 11: answers in the web Radio Patriots dot Com. Chris, don't answer.
- 48:03Speaker 11: I got some good ones, all right. So Question one?
- 48:06Speaker 11: What four movies motion pictures did Tom Brady appear in?
- 48:11Speaker 6: All right?
- 48:12Speaker 11: What four movies did Tom Brady appear in? Yes, yes,
- 48:16Speaker 11: you thinking about it. Question two? What Division one college
- 48:20Speaker 11: did Deon Branch attend?
- 48:22Speaker 6: All right?
- 48:22Speaker 11: And so to give you some background on this, he
- 48:24Speaker 11: went to junior college. But what Division one school did
- 48:26Speaker 11: he attend?
- 48:28Speaker 1: I have no idea what that one?
- 48:29Speaker 11: All right, Chris, a little before your time, you're barely alive.
- 48:32Speaker 11: Question three, how many touchdowns did Chad Ocho Cinco have
- 48:36Speaker 11: with the Patriots, all right, So I was always send
- 48:39Speaker 11: your answers into web radio at Patriots dot com and Chris,
- 48:43Speaker 11: it is March fourteenth. A free agency officially opened yesterday,
- 48:48Speaker 11: but you know it's legal tampering period the week before,
- 48:50Speaker 11: stuff like that. But anyways, you know, we have some
- 48:53Speaker 11: Pats free agents re signings that we've talked about. But
- 48:56Speaker 11: I also want to talk about free agents around the
- 48:57Speaker 11: league and what are some new matchups that you're excited about.
- 49:03Speaker 11: There are some new additions you're sided about, like what
- 49:05Speaker 11: do you think is gonna work? What do you think
- 49:06Speaker 11: is not gonna work? Let me go first. The first
- 49:09Speaker 11: one I'm excited about is Kirk Cousins. That no, it's
- 49:12Speaker 11: you reacted here. Tell me why do you think this
- 49:14Speaker 11: is gonna work or not work?
- 49:15Speaker 12: So?
- 49:16Speaker 1: I love Kirk.
- 49:17Speaker 13: I he was really one of the guys that if
- 49:21Speaker 13: we wanted a veteran presence in this locker room here
- 49:23Speaker 13: in New England. I think he's a guy that you
- 49:26Speaker 13: would go with over Russell Wilson, you wanted him here
- 49:29Speaker 13: over Baker Mayfield. Yeah, I realistically if there was one
- 49:32Speaker 13: of those three guys, I would have wanted to Kirk
- 49:34Speaker 13: Kirk the most. I think Kirk fits the best in Atlanta.
- 49:37Speaker 13: I think he has weapons around him, A new coach.
- 49:40Speaker 1: New coach.
- 49:41Speaker 11: We heard raheem a little in Indie like it's not
- 49:43Speaker 11: Arthur Smith like Kyle fits. He's gonna he's gonna get
- 49:45Speaker 11: the ball.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:46Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 49:46Speaker 13: And there was a funny little back and forth between
- 49:48Speaker 13: Kirk and Cale Pits about his number.
- 49:50Speaker 11: Yeah on social Yeah, just he said I was joking,
- 49:53Speaker 11: he's joking about He wasn't joking.
- 49:55Speaker 6: He wants some targets. Yeah.
- 49:57Speaker 13: But I loved Kirk going Atlanta.
- 49:59Speaker 1: I think that's a great fit for him. He got
- 50:01Speaker 1: his bag too, So.
- 50:02Speaker 11: I mean, which like he's coming off in Achilles. I
- 50:05Speaker 11: mean they we're talking about Rogers maybe running for vice
- 50:07Speaker 11: president because he tore his achilles. So all right, that's
- 50:11Speaker 11: all the topics. That's all yeah, to get in. But
- 50:14Speaker 11: on paper in Madden, that offense is scary. If Kirk
- 50:18Speaker 11: Cousins is back to what he's used to be, got
- 50:20Speaker 11: Bejon Robinson, Drake Lendon, Kyle Pitts and Kirk.
- 50:24Speaker 13: You're a big Madden guy. What do you think that
- 50:26Speaker 13: Atlanta Falcons set overall is gonna.
- 50:28Speaker 11: Be it's gonna start off at ninety three for the offense,
- 50:30Speaker 11: but then it's gonna drop because I don't think it's
- 50:32Speaker 11: got all right, Chris, what else we got?
- 50:35Speaker 13: Uh So I would say, I mean, for me, one
- 50:38Speaker 13: of my favorite signings and the guy he spent eight
- 50:41Speaker 13: seasons in Tennessee as a running back. He signed with
- 50:44Speaker 13: the Ravens.
- 50:45Speaker 11: The world's worst kept secret.
- 50:47Speaker 13: He he's just still he's still got that popping him.
- 50:50Speaker 13: He still has that King Henry speed. Derrick Henry signing
- 50:53Speaker 13: with the Ravens, that was a huge deal for them.
- 50:55Speaker 13: Gus Edwards signed with the Chargers. So now Derrick Henry
- 50:58Speaker 13: is a primary back in Baltimore.
- 51:01Speaker 11: Can we talk about how good that all black with
- 51:03Speaker 11: the black visor is gonna look.
- 51:05Speaker 13: So the purple is gonna look amazing on him too,
- 51:07Speaker 13: And I mean think about that backfield though. Lamar Jackson
- 51:10Speaker 13: one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL right
- 51:13Speaker 13: now and just won the MVP. Derrick Henry, Yes, he's
- 51:16Speaker 13: going on to his ninth season in the NFL, but
- 51:19Speaker 13: he still has that strength, he still has that quickness.
- 51:21Speaker 13: It might not be where it was four years ago,
- 51:24Speaker 13: but he still does have it.
- 51:25Speaker 11: They also got the back I forget his name. Evan
- 51:27Speaker 11: told me yesterday that Mitchell whatever they got the little
- 51:29Speaker 11: speedy guy to his little spell. Yeah, but he's legit too,
- 51:34Speaker 11: So all right, we got that and then all over
- 51:37Speaker 11: two more. Let's we get some more time. But Texans.
- 51:40Speaker 11: Texans are making some moves, Chris. They just picked up
- 51:44Speaker 11: Daniel Hunter with that D line is scary, all right,
- 51:47Speaker 11: Like they're legit, and let's talk about like they were
- 51:51Speaker 11: in it for Saquon and we went to the Eagles,
- 51:53Speaker 11: but like c J. Stroud rookie quarterback, one offensive rookie
- 51:57Speaker 11: of the year, and talk about helping you guy, like
- 52:00Speaker 11: I'm a good defense. They have Tank Dell coming back
- 52:02Speaker 11: off injury, and I'm sure they'll make some more moves
- 52:04Speaker 11: in the draft. And then the painful part of being
- 52:07Speaker 11: a Pats fan, Calvin Ridley, Oh, Calvin Ridley going to
- 52:10Speaker 11: the Titans less than four years, ninety two million, fifty
- 52:14Speaker 11: million guaranteed. People forget he's twenty nine. Yeah, and they
- 52:19Speaker 11: didn't pay a twenty seven year old AJ Brown that money.
- 52:22Speaker 11: So I mean, hey, I'm never gonna be upset about
- 52:25Speaker 11: players get in the bag. But you would have liked
- 52:28Speaker 11: to see him in New England, but I'm not too
- 52:30Speaker 11: upset about it.
- 52:30Speaker 6: Ridley.
- 52:31Speaker 13: Ridley got his payment for sure. Don't know if you
- 52:35Speaker 13: would have gotten that anywhere else, no other than Jacksonville. Yeah,
- 52:39Speaker 13: that was clear he didn't want to stay. It was
- 52:40Speaker 13: kind of interesting with the report saying that he was
- 52:42Speaker 13: focused on the Patriots and the Jaguars, but then just
- 52:45Speaker 13: crossing everybody.
- 52:46Speaker 1: You gotta one Tennessee.
- 52:47Speaker 11: You gotta wonder about that also, like, you know, if
- 52:49Speaker 11: he signed before the deadline, jackson was gonna have to
- 52:52Speaker 11: give up a second and then they gave up a third,
- 52:54Speaker 11: And you're wondering if you, like I'm wondering if they're
- 52:56Speaker 11: talking to him, like, hey, I'm not gonna le Jacksonville,
- 52:58Speaker 11: but you guys took a chance on me after my
- 52:59Speaker 11: whole suspension. Let me do you a solid And wait,
- 53:02Speaker 11: you only give up a third. I don't know.
- 53:04Speaker 13: Yeah, there was probably conversation there, but at the same time,
- 53:07Speaker 13: like didn't really see much about Tennessee being in the
- 53:09Speaker 13: mix there. And I mean, this is what the second receiver,
- 53:13Speaker 13: and Tennessee's posted a guy from the Patriots.
- 53:17Speaker 11: Like Will Levis, He wasn't that bad. They got Hopkins
- 53:20Speaker 11: trailing Burks and Ridley, so I mean, go out there
- 53:24Speaker 11: and win it.
- 53:24Speaker 13: There's a little bit of rumors though that Hopkins with
- 53:27Speaker 13: the Calvin Ridley signing, there's a chance that he might
- 53:29Speaker 13: not be there twenty four.
- 53:31Speaker 6: We'll see, all.
- 53:33Speaker 11: Right, we'll do you know, we'll commanders. They made some moves,
- 53:36Speaker 11: but you know, they made a twenty eighteen move. If
- 53:39Speaker 11: it was twenty eighteen, they'd be an all star team.
- 53:41Speaker 11: Bobby Wagner, Austin Eckler, though, zach Ertz, and then real quick, Chris.
- 53:45Speaker 11: The Pats re signed a bunch of guys. We're hoping
- 53:48Speaker 11: to make some more moves, but it looks like we're
- 53:50Speaker 11: gonna do most of our dirty work in the draft.
- 53:52Speaker 13: So yeah, hearing the reports about the Patriots kind of
- 53:56Speaker 13: stepping away from the wide receiver free agency market, it's interesting.
- 54:01Speaker 13: There's still a couple of good guys out there that
- 54:03Speaker 13: you could go and get, like at Mike Williams and
- 54:06Speaker 13: some others. But you know, it's an interesting direction. There's
- 54:09Speaker 13: a lot of good wide receivers in this upcoming draft.
- 54:11Speaker 13: Like we talked about it with the tackles and now
- 54:14Speaker 13: the wide receiver is probably two most two deepest positions
- 54:18Speaker 13: in the NFL draft, So you could really go with
- 54:21Speaker 13: any of those guys on that board and you'll get
- 54:23Speaker 13: some sort of production pretty early on.
- 54:25Speaker 1: So the ability to develop them is important.
- 54:28Speaker 13: But I do still think there's a chance you could
- 54:31Speaker 13: try to go over somebody a free agency, but I mean.
- 54:35Speaker 11: It's not our money, no, all right, Chris, thanks for joining.
- 54:38Speaker 11: As always, guys, send your trivia answers in the web
- 54:41Speaker 11: rate of Patriots dot com. Also, if you have any
- 54:43Speaker 11: topics you wants to discuss this offseason, send them in
- 54:45Speaker 11: the web radio Patriots dot com as well. All right, thanks,
- 54:49Speaker 11: and let's get back to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 54:52Speaker 2: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 54:57Speaker 2: replacements were shipped with FedEx and picture proof of delivery.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Everyone can focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 55:05Speaker 2: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 55:09Speaker 1: And now great moments in.
- 55:14Speaker 6: History.
- 55:14Speaker 1: People are like, oh, even though you're vaccinated, you still
- 55:17Speaker 1: have to wear a mask. Well, no, they want you
- 55:19Speaker 1: to because not everybody else has gotten it.
- 55:21Speaker 7: No, not everybody else has gotten it.
- 55:23Speaker 1: They're not sure yet.
- 55:26Speaker 5: Okay, Well that's why they're trying to be saved, right,
- 55:29Speaker 5: But if we don't want to go back.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I know I want the masks, you never know.
- 55:34Speaker 5: Strains, variants. I'm reading right now the Middle Ages, and
- 55:40Speaker 5: like we think we've got it bad, what kind of
- 55:43Speaker 5: should be good? The bubonic play? We got nothing over that.
- 55:48Speaker 5: I mean literally half of Europe died when you got it,
- 55:51Speaker 5: you died. I mean that was it. And you know
- 55:54Speaker 5: it lasted for a couple of years, and then it
- 55:56Speaker 5: went away, but then it came back over the course
- 55:58Speaker 5: of fifteen years.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Expect he was also like.
- 56:00Speaker 5: Seventeen, but it kept coming back, you know, yeah, over
- 56:04Speaker 5: fifteen years. And nobody wore their armor. That's why they
- 56:07Speaker 5: wouldn't wear their armor.
- 56:09Speaker 1: That's another great moment. We're back.
- 56:14Speaker 9: Fred has pawned off the after break reads on me.
- 56:17Speaker 1: So let's get into it, giving you an opportunity, easy to.
- 56:19Speaker 9: Drink, easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor
- 56:22Speaker 9: of the New England Patriots, and let's not forget Bob's.
- 56:26Speaker 9: Are you wearing green for Saint Patrick's Day? Be sure
- 56:28Speaker 9: to save some green too with Bob's Discount Furniture's full
- 56:31Speaker 9: selection of trendy styles to spruce up every room, shop
- 56:35Speaker 9: party ready dining, super comfy sofas, and the latest outdoor furniture.
- 56:39Speaker 9: All at Camp Miss everyday low prices. Everyone's a lucky
- 56:42Speaker 9: shopper at Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store of
- 56:46Speaker 9: the New England Patriots.
- 56:47Speaker 5: All right, good. I think this is a new thing.
- 56:50Speaker 5: I think we should rotate and I think fans our
- 56:52Speaker 5: listeners should vote who they think does it the best.
- 56:56Speaker 5: Everything's a competition.
- 56:57Speaker 1: I'm not good at it, so you can let somebody
- 56:58Speaker 1: else that's.
- 56:59Speaker 9: Her competition, and you have to you have to read.
- 57:02Speaker 9: That was my first time reading those paragraphs, right, so
- 57:05Speaker 9: you can't. I can't read first right.
- 57:10Speaker 7: My reading of that is my reading of the free
- 57:12Speaker 7: agents at the beginning.
- 57:13Speaker 6: Does that qualify?
- 57:14Speaker 5: That's part of the show.
- 57:15Speaker 1: You did a good job, though you did.
- 57:17Speaker 8: You did a good job of getting everybody. I would
- 57:19Speaker 8: have probably broken it up into different categories like sign off,
- 57:25Speaker 8: sign okay, he signed players, and then you know, I
- 57:28Speaker 8: think the loss.
- 57:29Speaker 1: So I have my off season tracker. That is a
- 57:31Speaker 1: spreadsheet Google spreadsheet, so is mine, and I here it
- 57:35Speaker 1: is if you want to zoom in on that. I
- 57:38Speaker 1: have resigned h there you go. I just I have
- 57:48Speaker 1: to copy and paste to things, so this makes it easier.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Re signed. But one of the new, the new fangled
- 57:54Speaker 1: texture tweeters.
- 57:55Speaker 9: That a spreadsheet on a cell phone screen is.
- 57:59Speaker 1: They feel the need to tweet out all the moves.
- 58:01Speaker 1: This is easy, I do this all.
- 58:03Speaker 5: Should at least get an iPad or something.
- 58:05Speaker 7: Oh else, you rock the iPad. She's like writing and
- 58:08Speaker 7: drawing level. Yeah, she draws like little little doodles on
- 58:11Speaker 7: her thing, and there's like, you know, it's all listed
- 58:13Speaker 7: what she has to do.
- 58:14Speaker 6: But then there's like a flower on the side.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Every time they make a move.
- 58:17Speaker 8: Evan updated. Evan updates the tweet with all the moves.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Yes, that's correct. That that seems to be a go
- 58:25Speaker 1: to tweet oh style.
- 58:27Speaker 7: Right, And then you think of a little everybody.
- 58:30Speaker 8: That I don't follow that somehow gets in myde I
- 58:33Speaker 8: think Patriot's offseason thus far. Yeah, boom boom boom, boom
- 58:39Speaker 8: boom boom, And it just adds the one that they
- 58:41Speaker 8: just did.
- 58:41Speaker 1: Like no, I do it at the end of the day,
- 58:44Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, last night, everybody else does too at
- 58:48Speaker 1: ten pm, because that's seems to be the hour that
- 58:50Speaker 1: they decided to make these moves. There's no wake up call.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Last night, there was no call, so I do it
- 58:55Speaker 1: last night. I think I did it around nine thirty
- 58:57Speaker 1: ten PM. I was like, all right here it is
- 58:58Speaker 1: after day three. But uh, now that with the extra
- 59:01Speaker 1: character limit, I used to have to squeeze it all
- 59:04Speaker 1: in and now I could just blest it all out.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Watch an ever it circle Everett Circle.
- 59:09Speaker 7: I got to admit the time change last weekend, coupled
- 59:13Speaker 7: with I'm a little bit like I'm still less a
- 59:17Speaker 7: couple of days.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Time change took you by Yeah.
- 59:19Speaker 5: I mean I like, you know how you're watching phone
- 59:21Speaker 5: do it automatically now? Like I got off feeling and
- 59:24Speaker 5: I didn't really think about it. I got in my
- 59:25Speaker 5: car and that one you have to do manually, and
- 59:28Speaker 5: I'm like.
- 59:29Speaker 1: What time is it?
- 59:31Speaker 9: I haven't switched my car clock for like probably four
- 59:34Speaker 9: periods of daylight now.
- 59:36Speaker 6: Because you don't know how, you just don't care.
- 59:37Speaker 9: I just don't got to do a car play to
- 59:41Speaker 9: my phone in the real time comes up, but time
- 59:43Speaker 9: manual Toyota screen.
- 59:45Speaker 8: I have like an old school digital big surprise, an
- 59:48Speaker 8: old school digital clock.
- 59:49Speaker 1: You do anything but old school that you still set
- 59:56Speaker 1: your alarm every morning. It's a newer one, but like,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: do you slide it? How do you set the alarm?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: It's because I'm I don't have to set on.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Top of he gets up when the cock crows, right.
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: I'm sorry crow anyway I do. I will say one thing.
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: I do not like to have my phone in the bedroom.
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: I don't my phone.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: It's very good for you charges.
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: I don't because if you do one healthy thing, it's
- 1:00:25Speaker 9: that way.
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: You don't like to have your phone in the bedroom.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: It's not good for you, not because of the bedroom.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Like when I go to sleep.
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: My phone is in another room, trying to keep the match.
- 1:00:33Speaker 8: I don't stay up at night's scrolling through the phone.
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: It's not good for charge throne next to my bad Yeah,
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: I charge my phone in the other room, Like I just.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: Do you have a landline at your house?
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I do, but it's not you.
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: So somebody calls you at night like it's an emergency.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Then I would get up and get the phone. It's
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: on loud, get it all the way up, put.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: It next to your bed.
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: Do your kids still live in the home? Yeah, so
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: who's really calling you late night?
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: For the North andover police department, the m.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I A A. You know, these are all very possible.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Probably like to come down pull out here, officials. I
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: just I don't you know.
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: Once I get to like nine thirty ten o'clock, I'm
- 1:01:21Speaker 8: usually off my phone for the night, and I don't
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: like to have no it's it's.
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: It's really good looking about that light before bed. It
- 1:01:27Speaker 9: messes with your sarcadian rhythm.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I knew you were going to say something. It's not
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: great to let me get into the Wi fi.
- 1:01:33Speaker 8: It's not necessarily because of my well obviously not because
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: of my well being.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: And I don't take your health.
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: And I watched I watched TV, so it's not like,
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: oh I need to wind it down. I just my
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: phone's not in the so my clock A lot of
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: people have their phone as their clock, right, So I
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: do have an old school clock, you know, digital clock
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: that's right next to my bed, just for time.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: But this is the this is the bizarre part.
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: So somehow I insist that it's in the phones only
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: the clock's only like two years old, so somehow it's
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: not right. It's not synced up with all the other
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: clocks in the house. So Beth's she also has a
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: clock radio on her knees. Okay, how long we go
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: in here?
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: So somehow there was a twenty two minute difference, a
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: twenty four minutes, twenty something minute difference between my clock.
- 1:02:24Speaker 8: Was fast and hers was the right by twenty two
- 1:02:27Speaker 8: minutes and twenty something minutes. And I swear, Hotel, I
- 1:02:29Speaker 8: swear it started off like ten minutes and it just
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: keeps getting a bigger gap. So we just did the
- 1:02:34Speaker 8: clock change. I didn't touch my clock, so it's not
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: like thirty four minutes slow. And I want to see
- 1:02:40Speaker 8: if it catches up, because I think there's something wrong
- 1:02:43Speaker 8: with it.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: To your point, like what did you get it on craigslist?
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Like where did you get this clock radio?
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: Then?
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Right, somehow doesn't keep tying? Well, they don't make clock
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: radios like that, And that's that's what I thought you
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: should make.
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: The term clock radio.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: I got to cut.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: It used to be a Oh.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: It's a digital clock. I don't even know if it
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: has a radio.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: I got do you wanted to read?
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: I got a good clock radio quick clock radio story.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: I promise it's not boring. Oh I did, but real
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: quick I had the same as well deserved I've had
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: the same one since probably two thousand and eight.
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: It's a good one. It's a big one.
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: When we lived in our old house, when we first
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: moved to Sharon, the clock would just change randomly, like
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: it would just like why is the time? I was
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: like the kids, I'm like, are you messing with this
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: or something?
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: Never did.
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: Finally, as we're getting ready to move out and I
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: still have this clock change and as we moved to
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: the different house, it's never changed again. I found out
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: that like one of the women who owned the house
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: actually had died in the room that we were and
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: so this clock radio when we were there, which which
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: was late for meeting, would randomly change times.
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: I still have it.
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: It's never changed times anymore unless my kids were like
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: constantly messing with me. That's my closest thing to closest.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: You guys still have clocks, just a big clock so
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: you look over do you just use your phone for everything?
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: You never you got to wake up and clear it changed.
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: You didn't have to go around your house changing any clock.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: I changed. I changed my stove, stove, microwave. You don't
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: have any of those things? Yeah I did change. No,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I don't have a microwave. Yeah, they changed microwave, I changed.
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: I don't have awave.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: I don't know what I do without a microwave.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: One of those.
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: But I do not have a in the air fire
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: and even then I only use my air fairly we have.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: From the microwave came with the apartment, all right.
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: We had a little trivia.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: That's how you know they've done nothing in free agency.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: That's how you know is the best signe?
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: Okay. First question is what four movies did Tom Brady
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: appear in?
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Tedai?
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, good one.
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: He was in another fairly Brothers movie too, where he's
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: like a redneck kind of like.
- 1:04:49Speaker 9: It has to be a movie, rightage doesn't count was
- 1:04:52Speaker 9: a movie?
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he was in the Entrage movie.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: Yeah, he was in the movie.
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: It's like shallow three okay, shallow House one more.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: No, it wasn't a shallow there stuck on.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: You wag, isn't it problem? It's Matt David Matt.
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: Matt Damon and I did not know that.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: Brad Chris from Duxbury got that. One. Second question, what
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: Division one college did Dion branch attend Louisville? Yeah, that's
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: William got that one and how many touchdowns did Chad
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: Ocho Cinco have with the Patriots One?
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great, I remember that one.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: Anthony got that one? Okay, that's your trivia. Good stuff.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: A lot of emails, a lot of calls coming in.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: We've been remiss, so let me get to them. Uh,
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: Scotty is in New York. What's up, Scotty. Scotty doesn't okay.
- 1:05:45Speaker 14: I was just wondering, now if asking you guys just
- 1:05:49Speaker 14: we will.
- 1:05:50Speaker 12: I'm not as up in arms.
- 1:05:51Speaker 14: With the Patriots off season as everyone else, but I
- 1:05:55Speaker 14: feel like it does maybe change what we're gonna do
- 1:05:58Speaker 14: with three overall. With well, with the lack of talent
- 1:06:03Speaker 14: we actually have in the three important needs on offense
- 1:06:07Speaker 14: that we could actually use top one hundred picks on,
- 1:06:10Speaker 14: I think it would make sense to move back and
- 1:06:12Speaker 14: whatever need do you put the team in, whether it's
- 1:06:16Speaker 14: quarterback first, or offensive line or receiver or whatever. We
- 1:06:21Speaker 14: we just need more shots at actually hitting on those picks,
- 1:06:25Speaker 14: and I don't think we can currently do that with.
- 1:06:28Speaker 15: The amount of AMMO we currently have.
- 1:06:30Speaker 14: I was just wondering what you guys thought about that,
- 1:06:32Speaker 14: all right?
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: I mean, I I Scotty I think, and it's I mean,
- 1:06:35Speaker 7: is anybody willing to just roll through the year with
- 1:06:37Speaker 7: Jacoby Brissett and yet get a Joe Ault and one
- 1:06:41Speaker 7: of the top five receivers in this class? Like, is
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: that not possible?
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: What if you throw a fifth round pick to the
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Bears for Justin Fields on draft weekend and instead of
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: us having to watch Dakobe Rerissette no offense for seventeen games,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: sure then that would trade back? Yeah, I just I
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: think that to you know, Scotty's point is why he
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: said that he's not as up in arms about the
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: off season. I think the reason why people are up
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: in arms about the off season is now we have
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: to talk about trading down because they did nothing in
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: the off season to fill some of these needs to
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: make it ready for the quarterback to just drop Drake
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: may or Jayden Daniels in this offense and hit the
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: ground running. So now you've pushed it down the road.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: You know, you've extended this rebuild a little bit longer
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: where you could have maybe done it a little bit fast.
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: I'll go back to my timeline that I can't seem
- 1:07:27Speaker 8: to figure out how to sift through and filter. I
- 1:07:29Speaker 8: don't see a lot of up in arms about the
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: off season the fans. I see a lot of upper
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: arms about that. Did their upper arms about it, but
- 1:07:38Speaker 8: with specifically, and I wish Scotty didn't hang up so quickly.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: I think it comes down to what you think about
- 1:07:44Speaker 8: Jaden Daniels or Drake May. That to me is the
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: only determining factor. Fred said it earlier. If you don't
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: think he's a franchise guy, then you don't take him.
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: And if you don't take him, I think probably the
- 1:07:55Speaker 8: best thing to do would be to try to move
- 1:07:58Speaker 8: down and get more picks.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you do.
- 1:08:01Speaker 8: Think that one of those two guys is worth being
- 1:08:04Speaker 8: a franchise quarterback, then you take them. Like this stuff
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: that they've done to me doesn't change the mentality. The
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: only thing that changes the mentality is your opinion of
- 1:08:14Speaker 8: Drake May or Jaden Daniels.
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: Right, it's really that simple. Let's not make it more
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: complicated than that. Ben in New York says, I'm not
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: that mad about losing out on Ridley after seeing the
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: Titans they're paying him until he's thirty four. I was
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: always a bit worried he was. On the other older
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: side and would fit the timetable and would not fit
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: the timetable of our rebuild. But again, I don't worry about.
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: Etty three, get rid of him and probably thirty one
- 1:08:39Speaker 8: because it's really a two year, fifty million dollars.
- 1:08:41Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: I know there's been reporting that we're out on free
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: agent players, But what are your thoughts on these names?
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: He names five Hollywood Brown, Mike Williams, Josh Reynolds, Mackai Beckton,
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: and Andres Pete.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Mike Williams is the only ones that interests me on
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: that list.
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: Yeah, me too, And even him, it's you know, isn't
- 1:08:59Speaker 7: he I saw, yeah, he's coming, and then I saw
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: like one of the injury things where it was like
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: sixty percent chance he'll miss a game this year. You know,
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: they project that kind of stuff. So but I'd be
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: I'd be with it. But again it's it's I just
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: want to have your own guys. You want to get
- 1:09:13Speaker 7: your own receiver, you want to develop them, you want
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: to retain them. You know that's you don't want to
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: always have to be go run into other people's stuff.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Like he's not the long He's a twenty twenty
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: four player. It's just better than in this draft. Once
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: you get through the first wave of the receivers, finding
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: that true X receiver to play on the outside gets difficult.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: It's really uh key on Coleman, tes Walker, those those
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: two guys, and then like Brandon Rice maybe a little
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: bit later on day two. But I love the the
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Z slot guys like the lad mcconkey's, the Ricky Piersoll's,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: the Washington guys that are gonna go on day two.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: I think that's a lot deeper in that type of
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: skill set. So to me, Mike Williams is just we
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: need somebody to play this spot in the offense. He
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: you know, is it probably a better version of it
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: the Devonte Parker. And now we're not forcing a pick
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: in the draft on on an X receiver because we
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: don't have one.
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: What do you feel about playing Thorton outside next year?
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: I mean just putting him outside at the X, you know,
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: because they always kind of dick around with him, like
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: coming into the formation and trying to run him through
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: traffic and little cross you know, trying to get him.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: A little blue for you a little a little bit,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: a little.
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: Screw around, but you know, just get him to run
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: down the field to run comebacks.
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: I mean he's had a tough time getting off physical
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: coverage and like when you line up at the X
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: on the boundary that it's all press man in the league,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: you're gonna get guys in your told me he's not
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: even gonna be on the team.
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: No, I know, but I'm looking at the roster and
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: I'm like, there's nobody who can play outside.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: That's why that's why Mike Williams interests me, because otherwise
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: you're really forcing yourself to target a specific skill set
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: in the draft. Of that that big, you know, bodied outside.
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: You're probably not going to be able to get right
- 1:10:53Speaker 7: unless he's ready to pick him.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: A trading up for Adie Mitchell from thirty four or
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: something like that.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: Kyle from Pembroke. I hate all this time of training
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: down from three. There are three blue chip quarterback prospects
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: this year, which doesn't always happened. QB is the most
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: important position of the game, and if we punt on
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: it this year, there is no telling how long it'll
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: take us to be in that position to draft blue
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: chip prospect. We shouldn't waste this opportunity. We need to
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: take a quarterback this year.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I do agree with a lot of what he said,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: but the fact that they might not be in the
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: position guess what, they they'll probably be in the position
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five to take one of these quarterbacks. Guys.
- 1:11:29Speaker 8: Part of his mentality was that you have to marry
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: being in position to get one with the ability to
- 1:11:36Speaker 8: have one there.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. I just don't really love when people try to
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: predict next year's quarterback class a year early, because every
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: single year Jaden Daniels was a third round pick. Daniels
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: wasn't one of these rows. Yeah, you know, Baker May
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Williams and May Daniels wasn't. Yeah, you know, all these
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: guys just come out of nowhere, you know. And then
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: also you know guys that are later like Appendix or
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: bon Nicks really held their case this year year to
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: be strong top fifty quarterback prospects, and bo Nix at
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Auburn was barely a college quarterback, let alone an NFL quarterback.
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: But one thing is certain that these three guys are
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: here this year.
- 1:12:12Speaker 8: And so if you think, yeah, the email was right,
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: if if that's how the team views it, there's three
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: blue chip quarterbacks.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: You have to take one.
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: Yep, Todd writes in he says, what do we think
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: of Matt Castle as a comparison for Drake May? Nearly
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: identical body type six four to two twenty five, arm
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: strength and mobility seems similar. Obviously, May is more highly
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: regarded coming out of college than Castle was in five.
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: But if May's first sixteen games, whenever they happen, look
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: like Castle's eight numbers, I consider it a success.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I might not going to be playing with an All
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Star team if all, if all Drake May is is
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Matt Castle, then we are in trouble.
- 1:12:48Speaker 8: If Drake May in twenty four plays like Matt Castle
- 1:12:52Speaker 8: did in eight, you'll be building a statue to him
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: with that team if he can be that like he
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: Matt Castle, first of all, was like three years in
- 1:13:02Speaker 8: the league, three or four years in the league. It
- 1:13:04Speaker 8: was a fourth year I think because he was a
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: free agent ended up franchising him and after that eight season,
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: so he was a four years in the league, fourth
- 1:13:15Speaker 8: year with an All Star team. Across the board offensively,
- 1:13:19Speaker 8: Moss Welker, I mean that team was loaded. They've going
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: sixteen and oh the year before this team isn't that.
- 1:13:26Speaker 8: And I don't think that there's much the same. I
- 1:13:29Speaker 8: don't think that Castle was like a good runner, elusive.
- 1:13:33Speaker 8: This guy's a tank.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, anakin from Tatuwine, right, sin He says, I'm not worried.
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: Are you worried? We knew how Elliott Wolf operates. The
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: talent doesn't come from outside, it comes from inside in
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: the draft, hoping they double dip a wide receiver in
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: the draft and get xavierly Get and Brendan Rice. Maybe
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: also double dip at tackle. Elliot Wolf tried to get
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley, so yeah, maybe obviously he knows that drafting
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: his important, that's probably more important in the in the hierarchy.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: But he just tried to get Calvin Ridley, so he
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: doesn't just try to build.
- 1:14:11Speaker 8: It amazes me that this still happens a little bit
- 1:14:14Speaker 8: like we didn't want him anyway. Yeah, no, they wanted him, No,
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: they did. I wouldn't have paid him that much. Well,
- 1:14:20Speaker 8: the Patriots would have, according to reports. According to reports, Yeah.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: They were willing to.
- 1:14:25Speaker 8: I mean, I'm sorry, if you offered him twenty two
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: million a year and he took twenty three, you were
- 1:14:28Speaker 8: willing to do the same thing. Yep, he chose another team.
- 1:14:31Speaker 8: Like if it makes you feel better by saying you're
- 1:14:34Speaker 8: you're glad that we didn't get him, then yeah, by
- 1:14:36Speaker 8: all means shoot your best shot.
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: To your point, PAULI you said at the top, it's
- 1:14:39Speaker 7: it's it's at least an encouraging sign that they recognize
- 1:14:43Speaker 7: that and that they have to go get that kind
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: of guy and they missed out on it, and it's frustrating.
- 1:14:46Speaker 7: But you know, I again, like I just I would
- 1:14:50Speaker 7: if it was like AJ Brown or somebody that I
- 1:14:52Speaker 7: was like, this guy is just all over the place.
- 1:14:54Speaker 7: I you know, Calvin Ridley's really good player, But like.
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: I think that's how Calvin Ridley was thought of before
- 1:14:59Speaker 8: his suspension. Yeah, I think the suspension has had a
- 1:15:02Speaker 8: lot of people forget about how good he was.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I just as much as I hear the point of
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: they did try to pay Calvin Ridley. Calculated spending in
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: free agency and building through the draft is what the
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Packers do. I mean, the Packers are not going to
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: be one of these teams that goes out and hands
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: two hundred million dollars out in free agency. Ever, and
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: having you know, his father, Ron Wolfe signed Reggie White,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: which was one of the biggest, you know, early splashes
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: in the history of free agency. People still call it
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: the greatest free agent signing in the history of Yeah,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: so it's not that he won't do it ever, but
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: that was like one of like three moves like that
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: in his entire tenure as the Packers GM that you
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: can point, we're just lucky he had. God.
- 1:15:41Speaker 8: Yeah, but you look at them was a god. I mean,
- 1:15:44Speaker 8: let's seriously, you look at the.
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: Wonder about in Green Bay, like, do they have the
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: ability to spend that much cash over cap because it's
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: not an owner.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: It's possible that that's part of it. But last year
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: the Packers, out of their twenty two starters in the
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: playoff game that they played against the forty nine Ers,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: one player was not drafted by the Packers and it's
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: an extremely young roster too. Yeah, Green Bay.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: Rodrigo tries to make a point, but I think he's
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: forgetting something we were talking about, like, you know, you
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: need to have that line ready for the young quarterback.
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: He said, did Burrow have a good left tackle when
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: he got drafted? The answer might be no, but he
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: also got hurt right away because of his line.
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: No, but and if if we had listen, if the
- 1:16:25Speaker 8: quarterback is great, I'm not going to be worried about
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: the offensive line.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: No I'm not. Yeah, but but it's going to be
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: a Catch twenty two.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: It does matter, you know, if you have the chance.
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: Speaking of Witch, I don't know, uh if you saw,
- 1:16:38Speaker 7: but it's got we go. You have sponsorship reads now
- 1:16:40Speaker 7: as well, starting next week, so Evan will be in
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: on the sponsor contest.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: I'm very happy about that. But also I have to
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: read them and I'm not good at it, so that'll
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: be what do.
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: Catch twenty two will now have sponsorship reads.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Does thank you? Thank for you?
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: So Alex Canton, maybe I might allowed to say who
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: the sponsor is.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: That's it's like the same.
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: It's not like Jersey Mike, easy to drink.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Easy to enjoy. But like you know how many times
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I Kenny, your sponsor, about getting Jersey Mikes to start
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: to sponsor Catch twenty two, I'm like, Kenny, just make
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: it happen.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: You'll work for food right, just bring us are.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Like good food store. I just doing okay. I want
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: a turkey soup. Like everybody else has a car, I
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: want a car who else has a car. I'll out
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: for the context, guys.
- 1:17:29Speaker 7: If we if we spin off Pep in the deuce,
- 1:17:31Speaker 7: we can get a contact sponsorship and we'll both be like,
- 1:17:34Speaker 7: you know, we go on Google ID and they'll.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Take Awake in wenty brought to you by what is Pep?
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: And the deuice is going to be brought to you.
- 1:17:41Speaker 7: Oh well take your pick, Colasslas.
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: Coffee Company. Duncan would work.
- 1:17:48Speaker 7: Duncan would work because you know you have your coffee
- 1:17:49Speaker 7: and then the Pep in the deuce wake up in
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: the morning with what goes best with peepe thedw's a coffee?
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: This show stinks.
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: We're coming every morning.
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: Eight Christians in LA. What's up Christian?
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: Hey you guys, Happy Thursday to you.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: Yeah and yeah.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: The draft is coming. So this season of hopefulness is
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: upon us. So I have a totally irrational take at
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: irrational take my totally irrational take exist and follow my
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: thinking at the end here.
- 1:18:20Speaker 12: So we start off.
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: With Marvin Harris in the first round. Second round, we
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: take another one of these top flight wide receivers the
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: third round, and this regus kind of crazy. I think
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: we may be able to get a bow Knicks or
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: someone like that, or if we can't get bow Nicks,
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: we take another offensive weapons and then instead of taking
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh mid round players like
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: we always do, pack and we get a fourth round
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: tackle body throw it in there. Go aggressively after Mike Williams.
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: And now we're in a position where we're one quarter
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: back away going into free agency next year.
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: You got six.
- 1:19:03Speaker 7: Receiver thirteen wide receivers can only pay five skill position
- 1:19:08Speaker 7: players at a time.
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:19:10Speaker 8: Yeah, when you filled you filled one of the ten holes.
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: You filled the hole a wide receiver.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: We have running back, we have tight end. Now we
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: have legitimate generational wide receivers.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: So we have a tight end. Barrel Brown's gone because
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: Sickie's gone.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: We have Austin Hooper. Okay, all right, but we don't
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: have an offensive line and we don't have a quarterback.
- 1:19:33Speaker 12: NFL tight end.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: I'm willing to go with those guys to put together
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: a fully stacked wide receiver.
- 1:19:40Speaker 12: Coore a great, great.
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: Running I want to ask a question, tight end, if
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: we if we have a tight end, why is that
- 1:19:50Speaker 8: tight end going to be part.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Of the future?
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: At age twenty nine? But Calvin Ridley at age twenty
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: nine would not be part of the future if they
- 1:19:56Speaker 8: had traded for.
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: Him, because tight ends are valued differently than than wide receivers,
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: and they get different money and their usage.
- 1:20:03Speaker 8: No, no, no, no, I didn't ask you about what I
- 1:20:05Speaker 8: didn't ask about what they were making.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: I was told it was dumb to.
- 1:20:10Speaker 8: Try to get a twenty nine year old wide receiver
- 1:20:12Speaker 8: because he will not be part of your team when
- 1:20:15Speaker 8: you get good. Why is having a tight end at
- 1:20:18Speaker 8: age twenty nine going to be part of your team
- 1:20:20Speaker 8: when you get good. I'm not talking about their contract.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: Yeah right, Well you put together a package of players
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: that you're now one quarterback away getting out.
- 1:20:30Speaker 8: Well, your package of players doesn't leave you a quarterback away.
- 1:20:34Speaker 8: It leaves you a lot of things away.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Mike Wait, Marvin Harrison, Mike Williams, whoever? We get at
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: a high second round receiver.
- 1:20:41Speaker 8: So what if Mike Williams can't play? What if Mike
- 1:20:45Speaker 8: Williams plays five games like he does for the Chargers
- 1:20:47Speaker 8: every year?
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: Yeah, then we have that high second second round.
- 1:20:51Speaker 8: Okay, So you don't have an offensive line, who is
- 1:20:53Speaker 8: you don't have a ball back.
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: There's only one quarterback away.
- 1:20:58Speaker 8: You don't have an offensive line or a quarterback art
- 1:21:00Speaker 8: who and you have a high a high a high
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: wide receivers, and in two years you won't have any
- 1:21:05Speaker 8: tight ends either, because I'm told when you get to
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: be twenty nine, you can't be part of the future.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: That's what I've been told.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: I like, you know, wide receiver university, just bring them
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: all in.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: I love the double dip idea wide receiver.
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: But that's the only one who likes that is Eldrid
- 1:21:20Speaker 8: All wide receivers all the time.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: I like double dipping at wide receiver, like if you
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: if you draft a receiver in the second round and
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: the fourth round, I'm all for that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: Stevie in Sexist writes in I also talk about the algorithm.
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: I also get these random Twitter fan pages that pop.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: Up on my feed.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: My favorite ones are the ones who listened to PU and.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: The other guys that cover the Patriots. Those are fans.
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: My favorite ones are the ones who listen to PU
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: and catch twenty two and then start tweeting your guys
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: takes like it's some magical idea that they came up with.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: Savage Sports and Patriot red Zone. This is for you,
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: you frauds now go tweet that take.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: Wow, I love that email because that I do. I'm
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: not saying that they're sealing just my takes. They do
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: that all the time where it's like, oh, I'll you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: oh I you know, Mike Williams might be actually a
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: good idea, like at like ten fifteen after I gave
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: that you catch twenty two.
- 1:22:13Speaker 7: If you're gonna be a thought leader, you just have
- 1:22:14Speaker 7: to accept it.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Trailblazers.
- 1:22:17Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: Fred wright's Ford writs in from Savannah, Georgia, old man, Paul,
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: get off my feed. This one is producing the kids.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: I was surprised to learn that you were reality TV
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: junkies as well. In the frame of The Bachelor, it
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: seems like Mac and Zappi were on a two on
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: one and Mac didn't get the rose. And every time
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: someone goes on a two on one, they never end
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: up as the winner, even if they survived that date.
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: That's how I view Zappy. Now can I walk you out?
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great analogy. I'm not a big Bachelor
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: person though they have two on one. Yeah, I understand
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: where he it's.
- 1:22:54Speaker 7: Not what you two people enter they got, not what
- 1:22:57Speaker 7: you got on vacation in Mexico. No, I think I'm
- 1:23:03Speaker 7: on record saying I I I will watch the Bachelor
- 1:23:06Speaker 7: because I like watching just a bunch of crazy girls,
- 1:23:09Speaker 7: like but like a bunch of dumb dudes on the Bachelorette.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: That's not as interest me just as dumb dudes.
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: I think crazy girls are a lot more entertaining and
- 1:23:15Speaker 7: fun to watch them.
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: I can't.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I don't. We don't watch.
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: I don't want to get looped in.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: I don't watch that much.
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: Really, I don't watch.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I watch a lot of that crap. I don't
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: really get into that.
- 1:23:25Speaker 9: I used to get kicked out of my my senior year,
- 1:23:28Speaker 9: I lived in an apartment with some of my friends.
- 1:23:29Speaker 9: They used to kick me out on Monday nights because
- 1:23:31Speaker 9: they would watch. They would all watch together and I
- 1:23:33Speaker 9: would sit there and roast Point for everything.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Go Fran But that's but that's the point of watching
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: it at point, like you watch it to roast the
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: people that are off the show. I don't watch it. Seriously.
- 1:23:44Speaker 9: My brain cells were just so.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: You need to you need to leave. I mean that's
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: what we did, just spend the whole time just being
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: like what a dummy, like it's not.
- 1:23:54Speaker 9: Just kick you out of the house, like no, because.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: She roasts them.
- 1:23:57Speaker 8: With me, I generally will try to start, you know,
- 1:24:00Speaker 8: like trying to be like you know, she's watches a
- 1:24:02Speaker 8: lot of crappy sports, you know, with me, try to
- 1:24:06Speaker 8: in fifteen minutes, and I'm like thinking, all of that
- 1:24:08Speaker 8: stuff is in my head.
- 1:24:09Speaker 9: But you get hooked.
- 1:24:10Speaker 8: If I start doing that, she's going to get annoyed.
- 1:24:12Speaker 8: So I just go, okay, yeah, I'll watch.
- 1:24:16Speaker 7: We just we just watched that Poor Things movie.
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: Did you see that one?
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Poor Things? I know that was big on the.
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: Yeah, the Oscars.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:23Speaker 7: Lane put it on quite the quite the tour de
- 1:24:25Speaker 7: Force from Emma what's her face stone Stone? Yeah, I
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: was surprised.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: Well, someone told me there was a lot of nudity
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: in and then there's a lot of news.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: Is that why you watched it, Mike.
- 1:24:34Speaker 7: No, Lane was watching and I was just kind of
- 1:24:36Speaker 7: writing up free agency things.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: Isn't she supposed to be a dead person though, you know.
- 1:24:40Speaker 7: It's kind of Frankenstein. They take like, you know, she
- 1:24:43Speaker 7: dies and then they put a baby brain in her head,
- 1:24:45Speaker 7: and then she's kind of baby and she's got an
- 1:24:47Speaker 7: innocent view of the world.
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: But it's all it's very style. Yeah, it was. It was.
- 1:24:51Speaker 7: It was a really interesting I mean, I don't know
- 1:24:52Speaker 7: it was visually interesting.
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: I know it was fine.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: It was visually interesting, dude, because you're not paying attention
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: at the beginning.
- 1:25:02Speaker 7: There's a lot of fish eye lenses and just you know,
- 1:25:04Speaker 7: but production designed very interesting, mister Hollywood cinemato.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: It's like how Bill Belichick watches football. You just you can't,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: you know, you can't just watch it to have fun,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: can you do?
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: Honestly, No, that's a bigger problem.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Like the whole life, like it's.
- 1:25:18Speaker 8: You know, one one camera sit like I could not
- 1:25:21Speaker 8: tell you all those differences, and I know, like for you,
- 1:25:25Speaker 8: as someone who was sort of part of that world,
- 1:25:28Speaker 8: all of those little intricacies I'm sure are fascinating to you.
- 1:25:31Speaker 7: It's it's harder for me with song writing because as
- 1:25:34Speaker 7: like you read a lot of screenwriting books, you take
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: screen in classes, and then you just see structure in
- 1:25:38Speaker 7: movies and you can't really watch them because you're like
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: there's page seventy five, you know, you just kind of
- 1:25:41Speaker 7: see the structure points going by that that's kind of sucks.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, I can't watch movies anyways.
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: Tom and England writes in the Talk of Elliott Wolf
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: auditioning for the GM position or the team looking to
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: hire someone else after the offseason seems ridiculous. Surely, any
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: judgment of how well the team is operated in the
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: draft slash free agency has to wait until the players
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: hit the field and start performing in games. The whole
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: coaching slash front off of staff should be given a
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: real shot at doing things their way rather than looking
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: for the quickest way to make fans that ownership happy
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: in the short term.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 1:26:19Speaker 7: I agree with that because it feels like if they
- 1:26:21Speaker 7: were to, you know, get rid of one of these
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: guys after free agency or the draft, it would just
- 1:26:25Speaker 7: feel like almost the fans of how they're reacting to
- 1:26:28Speaker 7: what they think, and you know, we don't really know
- 1:26:30Speaker 7: who they might be.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: It's not unprecedented stuff. It's not unprecedented for a personnel
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: guy to handle the draft and then them clean house
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: and start over in May. The Bills did it not
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: too long ago, so it's not when they hire Brandon Bean.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: So it's not totally unprecedented. You know, you did so
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: much homework in the fall on the draft that to
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: throw everybody out and then start over in January. You're
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: starting way behind the eight ball. So a lot of
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: times they just let them finish it out and they
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: do hire somebody at that point.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: It's it always seems weird though, because you would all
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: you would think that the people that exist in the
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: front office kind of have an inkling that this is
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: it for us, and like, so what's their investment on
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: doing a good job for the organized.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Next job another job?
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I guess, yeah, yeah, I mean nail the draft
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: by like if you you know, you're professional, you do
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: a good job and they end up having a good draft.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: I guess like Chris, Chris Greer was involved with Bobby
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: at the time when he left, and Chris Greer is
- 1:27:31Speaker 8: now in charge of Miami, Like I don't know if
- 1:27:33Speaker 8: that helped him or not, but yeah, I mean.
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: I guess it's a small world, yeah, and everybody knows everybody,
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: so it's in your best interest to always put your
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: best foot forward.
- 1:27:42Speaker 8: I guess I think Chris Greer was involved in wasn't
- 1:27:45Speaker 8: he Wasn't he around back then on our team?
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: Yeah, he was I'm not that's how Mikees met him.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I'm not misremembering his career.
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: Who's the GM of the Sharks too? Family of gms.
- 1:27:56Speaker 6: That's pretty rare.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Is he the GM of the Sharks? Huh? Ray Raymond
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: Wrights should probably rents not body.
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: Would you all be excited if we got Marvin Harrison
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: Junior or Neighbors at one or at three and traded
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: for fields and use that second round pick on a tackle? Also,
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: what do you think about Hollywood Brown? What do you
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: fit with us? So so you get you get the
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: receiver at three, you take a tackle in the second round,
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: and you trade for fields, would you be excited about that?
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:28:26Speaker 6: I mean sure? Yeah? No, I mean Milik Neighbors. I
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: really I'm intrigued by him.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I'm not a huge Hollywood Brown guy.
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: I'm not either.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: If Rondell Moore to the Falcons for Desmond Rit if
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: they had traded down, yeah, and then they got the
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: stockpile of picks for trading down and then took Malik Neighbors, Yeah,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: then I'm with you on that. And then the same
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: exact thing then sure, yes, sticking out and taking the receiver.
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: No, I'm with you.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: That I do like mylik neighbors.
- 1:28:52Speaker 8: I like that trade Rondell Moore's we like that guy.
- 1:28:56Speaker 8: Give another another valuable piece to Kirk Cousins. Desmond are
- 1:29:00Speaker 8: probably not ever going to be the Falcons quarterback, so
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: why not move.
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: Them Zane from New Jersey. Can someone please explain to
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: me why the Patriots are the only team that needs
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: to build everything first before taking the franchise quarterback. The
- 1:29:15Speaker 5: Giants of rumored to trade up with us for a quarterback,
- 1:29:17Speaker 5: but they also have no wide receivers in o line
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: that gave up ninety sacks last year, no running backs
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: in a tight end that is mulling retirement. So it
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: makes sense for the Giants to trade up and draft
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: a franchise quarterback with that mess, but not for the
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Patriots to draft a franchise quarterback. I don't get the
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: logic with trading back with the Giants.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: Well, I think the logic is just that they don't
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: have like the argument is is that the Patriots have
- 1:29:43Speaker 7: like below the line of acceptable surrounding talent and protection
- 1:29:47Speaker 7: for that quarterback. It doesn't necessarily all need to be
- 1:29:50Speaker 7: in place and perfect for the next five years.
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: That that, you know, But I.
- 1:29:54Speaker 7: Think you at least need to feel like we've got
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: a good left tackle. We've got a couple of pieces
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: that will help this kid out when when it's pressure,
- 1:30:00Speaker 7: they're able to get open off the line quick. You
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: know those things, But right now you look at the
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: roster that they don't really have those pieces.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: I also don't know why we care if the Giants
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: mess it up or not. I say giants unfiltered.
- 1:30:10Speaker 8: But I think it's this is the same argument that
- 1:30:13Speaker 8: I would make. It's about what you think of Jayden
- 1:30:16Speaker 8: Daniels and Drake may Like. If you think they're worth
- 1:30:19Speaker 8: picking at three, you're gonna pick them. You're not going
- 1:30:20Speaker 8: to trade back. This is the trade back to me.
- 1:30:24Speaker 8: Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they're going to just do it
- 1:30:25Speaker 8: no matter what. But I think if they like one
- 1:30:28Speaker 8: of those quarterbacks, they're not trading back.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Yep, I agree.
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: I'm with you and the Giants. Yeah, they very The
- 1:30:33Speaker 8: guy's right, the Giants have nothing.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Their receivers are better than he gives them credit for.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: But for the most part he was right.
- 1:30:39Speaker 8: To Tarrrian Wright, I'm kind of like the young kid.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: T Terrian wants to tell us what's really crazy. Crazy
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: he says. What's crazy is fighting for you, is fighting
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: for you's products at wide receiver like Hopkins last year, now,
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: Ridley Higgins, Hollywood Brown. When you got a guy in
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: Marvin Harrison, JUNI, you're right there for you at three,
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: Then get a developmental guy like McCarthy the quarterback from
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Tennessee or Panics to mold halfway through the season, then
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: play them.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Okay, how do you do both? Well, you can get
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: the date. That's doable.
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: Yeah, that's doable.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Okay, not McCarthy, I'm listening.
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: So you take them with a second round pick.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: What if they're not there? Well, yeah, no, McCarthy won't
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: be there, but but Milton will definitely be there. That's
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: way too for Milton. If you get Joel Milton Tennessee
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: thought okay, yeah, you mentioned Panics, yea at thirty. What
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: if they're not there, then what do you do? Get
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: another guy? Bonix?
- 1:31:38Speaker 8: Okay, So you're just willing to just say I'm going
- 1:31:40Speaker 8: to plug in anybody at quarterback, any developmental great, got it.
- 1:31:45Speaker 8: So you need a quarterback. If you don't take a
- 1:31:47Speaker 8: quarterback in the top three, you probably need a quarterback, right, do.
- 1:31:51Speaker 7: You think they should have just held on J Brown
- 1:31:53Speaker 7: like with that, like, why didn't that happens?
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: Yeah, like why didn't they somewhere? Do you think you
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: think Frabel is suicidal?
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: Now?
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Yeah? Absolutely, like we're doing.
- 1:32:03Speaker 8: We went out and got DeAndre Hopkins and then followed
- 1:32:06Speaker 8: it up by twenty three million for Calvin Ridley.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: Couldn't just and we couldn't keep AJ Brown silly he
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: was younger and better than better? Yeah, yeah, he's He's
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: younger and better, no doubt.
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: Let's get back to the A stick and hutline. Todd's
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: in North Carolina, hate Todd?
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Oh hi, hello, Oh there we go.
- 1:32:28Speaker 17: Okay, So there's lots of weird beeping going on when
- 1:32:30Speaker 17: you guys are dealing with the phone.
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: That's that's Paul backing up his takes.
- 1:32:36Speaker 15: So my question is.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: When I'm wrong Marks, why, Hey, I admitted it about.
- 1:32:41Speaker 17: Your old partner in crime Andy, and he seems to
- 1:32:44Speaker 17: feel that they're just not making any spending, et cetera.
- 1:32:48Speaker 17: But then when I listen to you guys, it sounds
- 1:32:50Speaker 17: like it's really hard to get people to come to
- 1:32:53Speaker 17: New England because they don't want to be there. They
- 1:32:56Speaker 17: get better options with weather and taxes. And stuff elsewhere.
- 1:33:00Speaker 17: So how important is it to have a Brady like
- 1:33:03Speaker 17: presence on a team to draw people?
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: In?
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Course, it's important to win.
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: I mean, we can go down the list of guys
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: who came at the end of their careers good players
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: because they had a chance to win ring chasing. Yeah,
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: Darrell Reeves.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Darryl Reeves' contract was now contract was anywhere? He was
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: traded here, wasn't he Now here's a freedom so yeah
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: they released him.
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: Yeah, and then you know Corey Dillon and Cory was
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: traded here. Oh he was a trade.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: Okay, you're going to ruin my whole thing.
- 1:33:38Speaker 8: Right, because the tricky facts sometimes disrupt narrative, like the cash.
- 1:33:45Speaker 8: But not those kinds of guys I think.
- 1:33:48Speaker 17: I think they have been that QB one that's got
- 1:33:51Speaker 17: that personality and that winning attitude. So even if we
- 1:33:55Speaker 17: have kind of a bad year, people can look at
- 1:33:56Speaker 17: the team and go, hey, there's potential there. I look
- 1:33:59Speaker 17: at this guy's leader.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: This is going, Rodney Harrison.
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: You have to win, just keep going, Rodney Harrison to
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: Rodney Harrison's admission didn't have a lot of options. I
- 1:34:13Speaker 8: got it, But you have I mean, you have to
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: if you win, then all of those things you absolutely
- 1:34:21Speaker 8: will be willing to take less to ring Chase Everyon
- 1:34:25Speaker 8: just talked about it with Tyrone Smith earlier on the show,
- 1:34:28Speaker 8: like it's not a hard concept. Did Tom Brady's presence
- 1:34:31Speaker 8: help you sign people without question?
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Yes? Yeah, I just the spending thing is always going
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: to irk me, Like it's just it's just factually incorrect
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: that they haven't spent any money? Have they? Have they
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: handed out a hundred million dollar contract to one player?
- 1:34:46Speaker 12: No?
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: Have they not spent any money? Also?
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: No?
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Like I don't know why we say that that they
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: haven't spent any money in free agency. I don't. I
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: don't say that. I know, I'm not you guys. I'm
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: just saying, and you know he's.
- 1:34:57Speaker 8: I just think this is kind of like the old
- 1:34:59Speaker 8: school payriots thing where we're gonna have a few million
- 1:35:03Speaker 8: on a million different guys and think that that's how
- 1:35:07Speaker 8: you do it. And it's kind of like the thing
- 1:35:09Speaker 8: I always make fun of Mike about you still believe
- 1:35:11Speaker 8: in Santa Claus, Like, yeah, that worked when you had
- 1:35:14Speaker 8: Tom Brady presidence.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: Just show up?
- 1:35:16Speaker 7: I mean, who does it?
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:35:18Speaker 8: And I think that there's one thing that I worry
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: about is I felt last year, listening to Bill every
- 1:35:27Speaker 8: week and then listening occasionally to some quotes out of
- 1:35:30Speaker 8: the locker room, they didn't feel they were a four.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: And thirteen team.
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: They felt like, you know, break break here or there,
- 1:35:41Speaker 8: better quarterback play. This team's really not that far I
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: disagree with that, And the way they're going about it
- 1:35:48Speaker 8: right now tells me they agreed with Bill.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: They didn't think they were that far away. They think the.
- 1:35:53Speaker 8: Problem was Bill and mac Jones, and we had to
- 1:35:55Speaker 8: get rid of those guys and make sure we keep
- 1:35:58Speaker 8: everybody else.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:35:59Speaker 8: I know they're not done, and I know this is
- 1:36:01Speaker 8: just the start of the rebuild. But that's what this
- 1:36:03Speaker 8: reeks up to me is two thousand and five Patriots rebuilt.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36:08Speaker 7: Well, my only kind of pushback, I totally get what
- 1:36:11Speaker 7: you're saying is just that they don't have any players
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: under contracts. So it's like they you know, like I
- 1:36:16Speaker 7: just said, Infony Jennings is the first defensive player to
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: be on the twenty twenty six roster that it wasn't
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: a draft pick last year, So who else are you
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: gonna build that team around? You know, like it's impossible
- 1:36:26Speaker 7: to go out get new guys, give all these different
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: players contracts that are going to last in the future.
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: You're you're you're.
- 1:36:33Speaker 7: Establishing a little bit more of a core right now.
- 1:36:35Speaker 7: And I think if that, if that sticks going forward,
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: so that they continue to kind of kick the can down,
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: then then that's a problem.
- 1:36:42Speaker 8: And I'm going to go back to the one thing
- 1:36:43Speaker 8: that's sort of annoyed me because I don't have a
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: huge problem with what they've done, you know, I really don't.
- 1:36:49Speaker 8: I know it probably sounds like I do, but I don't.
- 1:36:52Speaker 8: I'm disappointed, like Fred about Ridley, That's that's kind of it.
- 1:36:56Speaker 8: But I don't understand the mentality that you can't sign
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: these guys because they won't be part of the future.
- 1:37:04Speaker 8: They won't be part of the next part. But like
- 1:37:06Speaker 8: I can resign all of these guys, why are they
- 1:37:11Speaker 8: going to be part of the future. I don't, you know,
- 1:37:14Speaker 8: I personally would rather have one or two top level
- 1:37:19Speaker 8: play like if they could have gotten Christian Wilkins, Like
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: I'd rather have him than three armand Watts.
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: And I get it, I get, you know, rebuild, but
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: you do want to start to build a winning culture.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: I mean, at some point you need to, I agree,
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: for at some point you have to have some success.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: So like if Calvin Ridley can come in here and
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: win you some games.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: But they they tried to pay, and I give them
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: and that's why I said, I'm actually excited that. But
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: the whole point, right, I agree, And the whole point
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: is to Paul's you know list over there, they're not
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: going to c up. Okay, but that wasn't the reason
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: they didn't signed Calvin Ridley. The armand Watts is of
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: the world wasn't the reason why they didn't sign Calvin
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: Ridley Arm Watts.
- 1:38:06Speaker 8: I haven't seen them numbers yet, but neither was Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Where he's gonna die on that hill. And that's fine.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Maybe he's right, it's not yet. Like you guys just
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: got finished telling me they've spent a lot of money.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: I agree, just not well no, but but that's the difference.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: They have spent a lot of money. But I think
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: where they draw their line is Mike Dussau is asking
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: for way too much and we're just not gonna do that.
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: We have our principles. Now you want to if you
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: want to quit, fine, if you want to equate that
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: to the old Bruins.
- 1:38:40Speaker 8: No, I'm equating it to the old Patriots. Harry Sindona Belichick.
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: He was like, let the rest of the league overpay
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: on guys.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: We're gonna take this guy to arbitration and this is
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: the cost of business in two days NFL. Yeah, I
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: don't think Calvin Ridley was overpaid yesterday.
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: No, And I think there's overpaying, and then I think
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: there's grossly overpaying. And I think going over twenty three,
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: which is what they probably would have had to do,
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: they probably said we just can't do that. We can't do.
- 1:39:10Speaker 8: That, right, And I'm with you with your original thought
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: on this. I'm disappointed by that. Yeah, because I think
- 1:39:16Speaker 8: at some point, and it doesn't have to be Calvin Ridley,
- 1:39:19Speaker 8: Like that's where I think.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: People lose it, like, well, I don't like Ridley.
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: He can't do this, he can't do that. It doesn't
- 1:39:25Speaker 8: have to be Ridley. It could have been danil Hunter
- 1:39:29Speaker 8: on the edge, like it could have been Christian Wilkins,
- 1:39:32Speaker 8: who Evan talked about on our little free agent preview
- 1:39:36Speaker 8: that we didn't call it little, it was, Yeah.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: Well it was.
- 1:39:39Speaker 8: It was frenzy, that it could be a lot of
- 1:39:42Speaker 8: different guys understanding that Christian Wilkins is probably not going
- 1:39:47Speaker 8: to be a Super Bowl winner with the Patriots, just
- 1:39:50Speaker 8: like he's not going to be with the Raiders. But
- 1:39:52Speaker 8: I think, to Fred's point, you bring in better players
- 1:39:55Speaker 8: so you can get better, and then you get a
- 1:39:59Speaker 8: culture of SI sess and then you start to have
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: fewer holes to fill. Then it's not so hard to
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: worry about taxes to get a guy to sign with
- 1:40:08Speaker 8: your team because instead of four and thirteen, you're seven
- 1:40:12Speaker 8: and ten or eight and nine, and you're not that
- 1:40:14Speaker 8: far away. And then god forbid, you draft a quarterback
- 1:40:17Speaker 8: at three who looks a little more like CJ. Stroud,
- 1:40:20Speaker 8: then Mac Jones, then you got something.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: There's there's absolutely no doubt that I think that they
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: had a tough time getting people to take the bag
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: that they were trying to throw at them because of
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: the situation. I think that's accurate.
- 1:40:35Speaker 8: There's no doubt I worry about that because there's not
- 1:40:37Speaker 8: a lot you can do about that.
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: What happened last year with Hopkins, he was here.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: Well, according to Tom Kerr, and Bill didn't want Hopkins.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: Bill didn't want him. I thought they were.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: Buds that that's what he said on the radio somewhere yesterday.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: That's because of it, because of his parent has.
- 1:40:53Speaker 8: Been on a shooting spree. I love Tom, but he
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: has been killing Bill lately.
- 1:40:59Speaker 7: I don't know where this is going to go, but
- 1:41:00Speaker 7: just generally, how do you think this offseason would have
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: looked if if Bill hadn't left, I mean compared to
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: what we saw over the first couple of days.
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: Well, there would have been a reckoning and so that
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: Robert Kraft and Bill would have had to sat down
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: and there would have been a new start.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: I think I think it would have been very similar
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, I think it would have been very
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: similar to this. But instead of them trying to pay
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Calvin Ridley twenty three million dollars done that, they would
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: have paid Josh Reynolds like ten or so, you know,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: something like that, Like the jujus.
- 1:41:25Speaker 8: In the industrial complex would have told us how how
- 1:41:28Speaker 8: much better Josh Reynolds was than Calvin Ridley?
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: Right, he would that's what Or they would have given
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: maybe gave Davis that that gave three for thirty nine
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: contract but whatever.
- 1:41:37Speaker 8: But is Shaq Mason, like I know everybody said Bill
- 1:41:41Speaker 8: had never done it? He just did it. He did
- 1:41:43Speaker 8: it with Shaq Mason. He then he franchised Joe Toney,
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: and people like me said, how can you invest that
- 1:41:50Speaker 8: much money in guards? It's not that much of a
- 1:41:53Speaker 8: premier position. I criticized Bill for it. That's why I
- 1:41:56Speaker 8: remember he did it. Everybody's telling me now, Bill never
- 1:41:59Speaker 8: would have given Michael when you this deal.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: It's a little difficut. I think you would have because
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Shaq was signed in training camp and not on the
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: like Mike on Winny was on the open market, so
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: he had a bidding war for his services, whereas Shaq Mason.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: They actually got it done early, I know, but it
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: was a big money extend. It was. It was. It's
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: it's mostly comparable, but.
- 1:42:22Speaker 8: At the time, not for him. At the time it
- 1:42:26Speaker 8: was a big money deal. Today he didn't get nineteen
- 1:42:29Speaker 8: million like when you did. But it's inflation.
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: James Sanders, it's just too this is cracka.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: How come he's the only one allowed to talk over everybody.
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: I'm glad somebody appreciates that.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Oh I appreciated it.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: Let's go to Eldred in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:42:51Speaker 12: Hey tomorrow?
- 1:42:52Speaker 8: All right, Well, did you hear the guy that wanted
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: to draft eleven wide receivers.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Did you catch that guy?
- 1:43:00Speaker 12: Limb. I just want to, I just want too.
- 1:43:04Speaker 16: But Evan, yes, sir, me and you we got to
- 1:43:07Speaker 16: have a couple of call together one day and have
- 1:43:09Speaker 16: a long three hour day, maybe four.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: I'm taking. I have to rearrange my I'm out.
- 1:43:18Speaker 16: Yeah, we gotta, we gotta have a long discussion.
- 1:43:21Speaker 12: Understand what you're saying.
- 1:43:23Speaker 16: But my question is there, why not get to wie
- 1:43:28Speaker 16: receiver at three if your if your quarterback is not there,
- 1:43:32Speaker 16: and then at two could have get get pinnicked and
- 1:43:37Speaker 16: you keep knocking knocking down Pinnic, you know, like that
- 1:43:41Speaker 16: one bad game and in the championship and everything.
- 1:43:44Speaker 12: That he can't move.
- 1:43:45Speaker 16: He can move, but he can't run like Daniel.
- 1:43:47Speaker 12: He can't run like Drake. He can't run like William.
- 1:43:50Speaker 12: But he can move.
- 1:43:51Speaker 16: But one thing I said about him, he's more actively
- 1:43:53Speaker 16: in than three put together.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Okay, from a clean pocket, and.
- 1:43:57Speaker 16: He does and he does surveyed field and he does
- 1:44:01Speaker 16: read a little bit better. I know that's college pros
- 1:44:03Speaker 16: to be a little bit different.
- 1:44:04Speaker 12: Understand that.
- 1:44:06Speaker 16: But like I said, you know, if we get made
- 1:44:09Speaker 16: I still got my bit for nine games, you'd be like,
- 1:44:12Speaker 16: what we're gonna give him back at ten? Because what
- 1:44:16Speaker 16: the mother guy's telling you is what we thought for
- 1:44:19Speaker 16: three years and he had and I can get You
- 1:44:21Speaker 16: can name seven games last year and six game last
- 1:44:24Speaker 16: year before that that he just you know wasn't there.
- 1:44:28Speaker 16: They could have won the game.
- 1:44:30Speaker 12: But death on that. But I don't see what's wrong.
- 1:44:34Speaker 16: But I ask y'all one question, one hypothetical.
- 1:44:37Speaker 12: Kay, would you trade who chased for.
- 1:44:40Speaker 16: A second to Arizona and then they change trade Strange?
- 1:44:47Speaker 12: You know, Chase jew done show down?
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: Excuse me for who for a second?
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: Second?
- 1:44:52Speaker 16: Yes, second, because because Arizona want these are these are Russian?
- 1:44:57Speaker 12: Sure did a Russian? Okay? And then try to get
- 1:45:00Speaker 12: rid of Strange for three.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: He's not perfect.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: You're not going to get a three Strange. You just
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: got a six for Mac Jones a bag of footballs.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: You might get a second for a team that's close.
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: People people viewed Strange in the draft as a fifth
- 1:45:17Speaker 8: round pick. He's done nothing to say that that was wrong, though.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: But I like the idea of picking up that second
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: because now you can try to fill another need. But
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: I think Judnut is also a good player, so I'm
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: worried about the pass rush.
- 1:45:31Speaker 8: He is a good player, and you do have to
- 1:45:33Speaker 8: have some good players. But if someone wanted to give
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: me a high second round pick, yeah I have to
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: like that.
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: Flip that for.
- 1:45:42Speaker 18: For it.
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: Edgar is in Australia.
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: Edgar? Edgar?
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: Edgar Edgar tack wide receiver in the top Darius in Maryland?
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: Darius?
- 1:45:57Speaker 12: It was going on?
- 1:45:58Speaker 18: Hey, yes, I had two questions, right, Yeah, everybody seems
- 1:46:03Speaker 18: to be on you know, draft provacly behind round two whatever.
- 1:46:09Speaker 18: But Ellie Wolf and the package organization obviously was in
- 1:46:13Speaker 18: the draft suck. But Davonte Amazon Cup, it.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: Was a pretty two, pretty two.
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: What about Romeo Dobbs and Christian Watson and Jordy Nelson.
- 1:46:24Speaker 8: They drafted them all.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: They literally drafted all their receivers going back to rond
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: Wolf like thirty years ago.
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: Dad, what's the Packers' it's the grating.
- 1:46:35Speaker 8: It's just the packers. Those are those are good draft picks,
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: like they were all in. They weren't really like they're
- 1:46:43Speaker 8: not top ten picks. They're like Day two packs.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't. They don't draft first round receivers, they
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: draft them on day two. Yeah, and Jordy Nelson was
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: a good player. Wolf was probably there then, right.
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: I mean there was a few years where they were
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: saying they're not giving Aaron Rodgers enough guys.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: Oh I think that's a valid argument.
- 1:46:58Speaker 18: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's okay.
- 1:46:59Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, Like I would argue that they
- 1:47:03Speaker 8: did what the Patriots did.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: They got the weapons after the guy left, right.
- 1:47:08Speaker 18: And then the second question would be if Caleb Williams
- 1:47:11Speaker 18: is you know what we think he.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: Might be, Well, you're gonna have to give up a lot. Yeah,
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: you're gonna have to give up. Yeah.
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: They just don't have a lot of Yeah, they don't
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: have a lot of assets to.
- 1:47:27Speaker 18: Point nine and you know, yeah, you.
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: Probably have to give up this year's first, next year's first,
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: well maybe three first.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: You're switching from three to one. Yeah, but it's for
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: it's for a guy that So what would you have
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: to give up to go from three to one for
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Caleb Williams.
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: I'd say at least two first rounds in a second.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: Yeah, probably at least. And I don't think they have no, No,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: I wouldn't, but I get your point.
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: Darius if you think he's that good, then that's worth
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: it to first in a in A I.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Don't know about that.
- 1:47:59Speaker 8: I like Caleb william I do not consider it like
- 1:48:02Speaker 8: Andrew luck like one of these generational kind of guys.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: I don't look at him that way. I think he's
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: he's close. But it's just then you're just gonna have
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: Caleb Williams, Like, what are you gonna do if you
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: traded your entire draft hall for the next three years
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: to get them, then where where does that leave you?
- 1:48:18Speaker 5: Well, you could get Like the other thing to think
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: about is the business side of it. Because you draft
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: Caleb Williams and Kleenex becomes your sponsor.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: It's amazing to me that someone would not pick him
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: because of that. No, no, it's not. It's and it's
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: a real thing. I don't I don't think that that's
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: it's a real thing. I think it's a real thing
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: among pundits. It's not just that I don't think it's
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: a real You didn't hear any of that at the
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: combine that, Oh god, they don't hear everybody. Everybody's the
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: greatest prospect of all. No, no, no, I just mean
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: like from teams like you don't hear like, oh, you
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: know that this guy's untouchable because he cried to his mind.
- 1:48:53Speaker 8: Wolf specifically said he's tough. The top the top three guys.
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: We're talking about the quarterbacks in this class, specific Ticuly,
- 1:49:00Speaker 8: the top three guys are.
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: Tough and Cale Williams. I mean he has he comports himself.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: Well he does, you know, nice of you to say, friend,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: he does.
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: Clint from Ottawa, who's listening from Mexico, says, where would
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: Daniels have been drafted if he didn't win the Heisman?
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: Is he being a bit overdrafted.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: If he had the same year and didn't win the Heisman? Yeah?
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: I think in the top three.
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: I do too. I still think he'd be up there
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: the Heisman. You know, that's not the end all be all.
- 1:49:33Speaker 8: It's having a Heisman Trophy season. It's not right like
- 1:49:37Speaker 8: necessarily winning.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: The Heisman's track record has gotten a lot better in
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: recent years in terms of NFL player translating like you
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: won the Heisman really starting with Lamar.
- 1:49:49Speaker 7: But I think the better question is what where would
- 1:49:51Speaker 7: have been drafted if he didn't play, Like if he
- 1:49:52Speaker 7: just came out after his junior year.
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he's probably a Day two pick. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I think he I haven't said earlier. He exploded Yeah
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: this year. It's a it's a good question and like
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: something Rice Young went from winning the Heisman to not
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: winning the Heisman and was the first overall. Well that's
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: what Caleb's gonna do, you know. Yeah, it's It's a
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: good conversation though with with guys you're talking about it earlier.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Just he transfers from Arizona State. It took him a year,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: but then he's with Malik Neighbors, he's with Brian Thomas Junior,
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden he wins the Heisman
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Trophy and now he's a top three pick in the draft.
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: And at some point it's hard to extrapolate who's responsible
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: for what? You know, is it the receivers?
- 1:50:32Speaker 17: Is it?
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Is it Daniels?
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: Is it both?
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: And that's gonna be a tricky part as we move
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: forward in the an i l e. Where all these
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: guys can just transfer every single year and they're they're
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: gonna it's gonna be like AU or they're just gonna
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: start forming these super teams at these schools, and so
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: then it's like, all right, well, now he's you know,
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Panics Daniels, Like they're all throwing to like these star
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: receivers all over the place. You know, Quinnie Ers in Texas, Like,
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: how do you evalue Wait, it's Mac Jones at Alabama
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: but with everybody, so like, how do you kind of
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: go ahead and and figure out who's actually responsible for
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: it all?
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: Yep, lots of emails, but I'm gonna take a phone call.
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: James is in Houston. What's up, James?
- 1:51:17Speaker 15: How are y'all doing today? I'm kind of playoff what
- 1:51:21Speaker 15: he just said, to be honest with y'all. See, in college,
- 1:51:29Speaker 15: I see a lot of like, let's say, Jade and Daniels.
- 1:51:33Speaker 15: Perhaps he had the best receiver room in college last
- 1:51:38Speaker 15: year by far. So it's hard to judge how he's
- 1:51:40Speaker 15: going to go in the NFL. But I think the
- 1:51:44Speaker 15: way to go would be the drafted quarterback that went
- 1:51:46Speaker 15: with the most competition this year and Jayde and Daniels
- 1:51:49Speaker 15: being in the SEC is the move to me?
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Okay, I mean.
- 1:51:56Speaker 15: I really really think that we should have got to
- 1:51:59Speaker 15: receive a free agency because this receiver drive stop it sacked.
- 1:52:04Speaker 15: I'm not gonna lie, but it helped the hide instead.
- 1:52:08Speaker 5: Of just one. We all agree, we're getting older. We
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: all agree. Do we agree they should have or get
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: a wide receiver and free agency?
- 1:52:20Speaker 12: Oh?
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, but now I think it's like
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: kind of too late.
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: Yeah, you haven't really filled a hole yet, you know,
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: or at least started to put dirt in that hole?
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: Is holding back codys to film.
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: I have come to the realization about the evaluation of
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: talent and managing expectations. In April of twenty one, the
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: Patriots selected a quarterback fifteenth overall. I vividly remember how
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: excited I was at the time, simply because we had
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: taken a quarterback. Deuce was bubbling with excitement following the pick,
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: as was I. Paul Parrilla was I quote, ridiculously bumm
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: because we don't have a quarterback. He said that within
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: ninety seconds of the selection. I thought he was just
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: being grumpy due to the low pepsi DIETPEPSI levels. But
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: I have come to realize that when in doubt, listen
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: to Perillo. Paul always likes to say, don't tell people
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: what you feel or think. Don't tell people what to
- 1:53:20Speaker 5: feel or think. But I have decided I will refrain
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: from excitement or disappointment when we take a quarterback at
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: three until I hear Paul's opinion and Perillo we trust.
- 1:53:31Speaker 8: I will say up front the amendment to that would
- 1:53:34Speaker 8: be I like to hear from people before and I have.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: I'm just gonna you know, you guys know me.
- 1:53:43Speaker 8: I'm a little psychotic. I remember what people think, and
- 1:53:47Speaker 8: I know what people think now, and I know this.
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: Life is just one big grudge.
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: This will change.
- 1:53:53Speaker 8: It's not a grudge because there's a million draft picks
- 1:53:57Speaker 8: that I've been one hundred percent wrong about Richard's smour
- 1:54:00Speaker 8: being at the top of that list.
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: So this is not about me being free years ago. No,
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: it's not about me being right, is my point.
- 1:54:08Speaker 8: My point is I don't change my thoughts once the
- 1:54:12Speaker 8: guy becomes the team that I want him to become on.
- 1:54:15Speaker 8: Like Drake May, I've gotten the litany of people calling
- 1:54:19Speaker 8: me telling me how bad he is. I want you
- 1:54:21Speaker 8: people to tell me how bad he is on May fifteenth,
- 1:54:25Speaker 8: when he's been a patriot for two weeks. I don't
- 1:54:28Speaker 8: think I'll hear from many of you other than Eldred,
- 1:54:31Speaker 8: who will go down with that ship.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: I respect that.
- 1:54:35Speaker 8: And then if he's good, elgib will also call in
- 1:54:38Speaker 8: and say I was wrong. He's much better than I
- 1:54:40Speaker 8: thought he was. But a lot of people want no
- 1:54:43Speaker 8: part of Drake May today. That will change if they
- 1:54:46Speaker 8: picked Drake May. I will guarantee it.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: I'm guilty of it myself. That you know, especially early
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: on when I first started covering the team, it's Bill
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: Belichick making the pick. So when they drafted Nick kill Harry,
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: I didn't really like Nick kill Harry coming into the draft,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: but Bill liked them, so I was like, all right,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: you know, maybe they see something that I don't enough,
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: and then you know that ends up going the wrong way.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: Cole Strange is the only one that I've stuck by
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: my guns. He took the question out of my mouth. Yeah,
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: because that's the only one and I have done that.
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: Oh he's terrible. He's just not worth what they picked him.
- 1:55:17Speaker 8: A well, I don't He'd be fine as a fifth
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: round pick, but I like Nikhil Harry's one.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: I didn't like the Nikhil Harry.
- 1:55:26Speaker 8: Pick when they made it, and I kind of got
- 1:55:29Speaker 8: evand I was like, Bill doesn't take wide receivers in
- 1:55:32Speaker 8: the first round. I talked myself into it because if
- 1:55:35Speaker 8: Bill was high on him, it was like, yeah, so
- 1:55:37Speaker 8: I'm not telling you I've never been guilty of that too.
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: But when you don't like anything, Paul's.
- 1:55:42Speaker 8: No, but I've been wrong about more guys than I
- 1:55:45Speaker 8: liked that turned out to be like Vernon Colston for
- 1:55:48Speaker 8: the Jets, Remember him. I thought this guy was going
- 1:55:50Speaker 8: to be great, he wasn't. Like, there's more guys that
- 1:55:54Speaker 8: I think are going to be good that turn out
- 1:55:56Speaker 8: to be not so good. Then the other way around.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: It's definitely true.
