- 0:32Amber Kuhn: Hello, TPR Nation. This is Amber Kuhn. Thank you
- 0:34for joining me on today's Follow up Friday, where I'll be
- 0:37recapping this week's episode highlights in action items on
- 0:41Monday, Matt was joined by Tracy Lownsberry from Annuity Giants.
- 0:44Tracy shared that he's super niche annuity side, and he
- 0:47focuses on making sure that agents and advisors are trained
- 0:51the right way. Tracy pointed out that there are a lot of advisors
- 0:54who are anti annuities, which he said could come from having a
- 0:58bad experience. Also that 95, same with 95% of the people
- 1:01selling them. So Tracy is working with consumers and
- 1:04advisors in the space, which stems from him realizing that
- 1:07there are so many foundational details that are missed that
- 1:10advisors and agents just don't understand. So he started a
- 1:14community and a training program, and he said that it's
- 1:17addicting for him to be able to sit down with someone and watch
- 1:20them really start to understand some examples that he shared
- 1:23where people have this epiphany, are related carriers and
- 1:27anything related to performance, he recommended starting to
- 1:30second guess the worst and best case scenarios for your client.
- 1:33He set the expectations that advisors and agents have are
- 1:37clouded because they're trying to push sales through with both
- 1:40Matt and Tracy saying that there's a lot of bad products
- 1:43out there. It's important to understand how they work, and
- 1:46you need to be aware of the options that are on the table.
- 1:50As far as adding this as a part of your toolbox, Tracy said he
- 1:53typically sees advisors who will partner with someone or he said
- 1:57you can charge a flat fee and to make sure that you're talking
- 2:00with your BD or following through with compliance. Matt
- 2:03and Tracy brought up that it's important to find the best
- 2:06solution for your client. You can't just not make a
- 2:09recommendation for someone simply because they get a
- 2:12commission, and that commission doesn't make you a bad person.
- 2:15Someone is going to do the right or the wrong thing either way,
- 2:19and that isn't dependent on how they get paid. Tracy said it's
- 2:22important to set the right expectations with any product,
- 2:26and that ignorance is an offense. And he believes
- 2:28education is important to understand all the pros and cons
- 2:32and tools available and ultimately provide options to a
- 2:35client. Tracy said when you get to the point where you want to
- 2:38have the annuities conversation, or that your clients want to he
- 2:42recommends seeing the guarantees, and that if the
- 2:44contractual guarantees are far from someone's expectation, then
- 2:48that's a problem, and you really need to start asking questions.
- 2:51If that performance element is the driving force behind the
- 2:55product, then he said you should run let's get into action items.
- 2:58Tracy recommended two books, Mindset by Dr Carol Dweck and
- 3:01Positive Words, Powerful Results by Hal Urban, which we have
- 3:05linked in Monday's show notes. And to learn more about Tracy,
- 3:08you can connect with him on LinkedIn or visit him at the

- 3:15Jamie was talking about rising above challenges and the
- 3:18difference between those who are successful versus those who
- 3:21think they can wish themselves into success. This conversation
- 3:25grew from this thought that people who are successful are
- 3:28smarter, faster or better than others, but Jamie said there are
- 3:31two characteristics in people who are successful versus those
- 3:35who dream about it, and that's optimism and grit. And with
- 3:38being optimistic, it's about believing in the possibility of
- 3:41things. But that belief isn't enough again, because you can't
- 3:45just wish something into happening. You need to have a
- 3:48plan and work towards achieving your goals. Jamie talked about
- 3:51how this applies with employees and hiring as well. For the most
- 3:55part, people aren't rock stars straight out of the gate. They
- 3:58need to be trained, and you need to believe that your team can
- 4:02succeed, and you need to show them that it's possible to
- 4:05achieve more. This doesn't mean you need to be catering to your
- 4:08team members with all their needs. Their needs and wants,
- 4:11but she believes it's important to have radical and constructive
- 4:15criticism. Jamie said when you look at her organization, she
- 4:18pointed out that you can be both optimistic and critical, but
- 4:22that a lot of leaders have really struggled with this. She
- 4:25said a leader who's there to guide others needs to point out
- 4:28when someone gets things wrong, even for herself, she accepts
- 4:32her own mistakes as a natural part of her dame. She believes
- 4:35that problems are meant to be solved and not saddened, and she
- 4:38applies this with her team, so they always know to come to her
- 4:42with a solution to a problem first, even if Jamie may not end
- 4:45up agreeing with it. Jamie said too many leaders are concerned
- 4:49about hurting their employees feelings and that they aren't
- 4:52responsible for giving feedback that then creates someone who
- 4:55isn't growing or learning. Your employees don't need you to be
- 4:59their friend. They need you to be the leader of the
- 5:02organization. This doesn't come naturally to everyone. It's
- 5:05something that you need to enter way into if it doesn't Now, the
- 5:08other part of this is the grit and the discipline. Jamie shared
- 5:12a quote from Tony Robbins that people are praised in public for
- 5:15what they've practiced for hours in private, you have to
- 5:19prioritize the things that are going to prepare you for that
- 5:22you want. And this was Jamie's big question for you our
- 5:25listeners, what are you doing when you wake up and are you
- 5:28reacting instead of being proactive to set yourself up for
- 5:31success? There will be little fires to put out, but Jamie said
- 5:35you need to find the space to handle that versus letting that
- 5:38be the start of your day, you can't spend your day playing
- 5:41office, which is just pretending to work, where you're spending
- 5:45so much time on any one task. When you catch yourself doing
- 5:48that, you need to stop, walk away, and then come back to
- 5:51focus on the things you need to get done. So when you think
- 5:55about discipline, you need to think about what it is you want.
- 5:58What are you willing to sacrifice to get there, and what
- 6:01are the steps that you're going to take? Jamie wrapped up by
- 6:05showing that success looks so easy and tangible today that you
- 6:08forget about the sacrifice that it takes to get there. That
- 6:11wraps up this week's recaps. TPR Nation, if you're looking for
