- 0:53I want to take the liver detox community family for joining me on this journey and also contributing to my goals of helping so many people discover the power of self-healing or the power of listening to the bodies and knowing exactly what to do by first, identifying the with cause we're moving toxins, decreasing inflammation and address some of the health issues.
- 1:19I'm honored.
- 1:20I'm humble.
- 1:20And I'm super happy really with this liver detox program.
- 1:24But in today's podcast, we're all going to talk about.
- 1:28The difference between a consultation and an office visit.
- 1:32I realized that many people.
- 1:34Don't really know what a consultation is.
- 1:36We heard the word consultation we've consulted with maybe, a contractor.
- 1:42But when it comes to medical, when it comes to doctors and experts in the medical field, Many of us have not experienced a consultation or we did.
- 1:52And we don't really know what, how it's supposed to be, what the difference is.
- 1:56as I'm doing this work and I'm seeing so many people in our practice, He and Denville, New Jersey and also doing tele-medicine.
- 2:04And I'm asking multiple questions and I can see.
- 2:07That by the patient that able to answer.
- 2:11Those vital questions.
- 2:13They have not.
- 2:14Been in a consultation, they have been to office visit that's.
- 2:18Everybody's exposed to an office visit.
- 2:19We have all been to an office visit.
- 2:22But today, I want to talk about the difference so that you, next time you go to a doctor's office.
- 2:27You'll be able to make the difference between the two.
- 2:30You'll be able to ask the doctor.
- 2:33about the consultation.
- 2:34Sort of office visits so that you can get the proper care and the treatment that you.
- 2:39Mead.
- 2:39That you desire that you're entitled to.
- 2:42So again, office visit, we have aches and pains.
- 2:46We call our doctor's office.
- 2:47We have an office visit.
- 2:49There's a bit of overlap.
- 2:51Between an office visit.
- 2:52Or a doctor's appointment and a consultation.
- 2:55One thing I'm going to say right off the bat is that an office visit is very general.
- 3:00If you can think about a time you went to a doctor's office, how simple was that?
- 3:04It was quick.
- 3:05Well, maybe the waiting time was longer.
- 3:08But it was very general.
- 3:09A standard office visit or doctor's appointment.
- 3:12It's where you meet, which adapter for 10 to 15 minutes in duration.
- 3:1810 to 15 minutes.
- 3:20And during the visit.
- 3:21Your doctor is addressing one or two issues.
- 3:26So you go to your doctors typically.
- 3:29An office visit will Intel a cold or flu.
- 3:33Even a track infection to headache, or you need to get a script for medication.
- 3:39Or the medication that you own is not working or you have acid reflux or stomach issues.
- 3:44Like really, really general.
- 3:47Straight to the point.
- 3:48What is wrong with you?
- 3:48You have a headache.
- 3:49Isabelle.
- 3:50That's an office visit.
- 3:51And this will be something that has made you feel unwell.
- 3:54And the last few days.
- 3:56That's something that you've been experiencing for months or years.
- 3:59So if you have high blood pressure, Or hypertension is a diagnosis.
- 4:03High blood pressure is elevation of your blood pressure, right?
- 4:05You are going to go to a doctor's office.
- 4:07Your doctor's office is going to give you a pill.
- 4:09Although you might have.
- 4:11This high blood pressure for a while, but since it is presenting with symptoms at the headaches that most people get.
- 4:17You are going to get a Pell.
- 4:19But if you have a disease that you've according to calf conditions, You can do an office visit, but at the beginning you will have to see experts.
- 4:28And consulting with different doctors.
- 4:30Again, an office visit or standard doctor's appointment.
- 4:34I can take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes.
- 4:36And the doctor's job is to address or manage a single issue or two.
- 4:43And give you a quick, quick, quick recommendation, such as medications.
- 4:47I recommend you take this medication.
- 4:49Here's a script.
- 4:50Goodbye.
- 4:50Or have some blood work done and then you get a call from your doctor's office.
- 4:55But it was out of the blood work.
- 4:57And the medication called into your pharmacy.
- 4:59When it comes to wheelie.
- 5:02Address multiple issues.
- 5:04You're going to have to make multiple office visits.
- 5:06Or you're going to have to schedule what we call the consultation.
- 5:10With the doctor, because office visits can only address again, one to two.
- 5:14And the problem with that, it doesn't really lead to good outcome.
- 5:17It doesn't.
- 5:18So there's no way I'm going to find out the root cause of your headaches.
- 5:21If I'm seeing you for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 5:24There's no way I'm going to listen to your story.
- 5:27And find unset of this issue.
- 5:30If I'm only meeting with you.
- 5:32For 10 to 15 minutes.
- 5:35It doesn't lead to good outcome.
- 5:36So that's why patients have to be seen every 15 minutes.
- 5:41This type of medicine.
- 5:42So if one patient is late, Then it will mess it up for the rest of the patient.
- 5:46That's why when we go to a doctor's office, we waiting for 45 minutes.
- 5:50Pass your appointment time leading up to an hour.
- 5:53It is not fair to you.
- 5:54It's not fair to the people that are coming after you, and also not fair for the people that are arriving on time.
- 5:59So with this type of office visit.
- 6:02The doctor it has to see a patient every 15 minutes.
- 6:04So then he or she is allowed to see three to four people.
- 6:07But I have more.
- 6:08And the effort is made in managing the length of the doctor's consultation.
- 6:14If you have a shopping list of issues.
- 6:16Uh, problem of longstanding issues.
- 6:18They will not address that.
- 6:20I remember when I was working in the hospital and also working in private practice.
- 6:24I was told.
- 6:25I can only address one to two issues.
- 6:28If you come with your headaches and your stomach is hurting.
- 6:30Yes.
- 6:31I might give you something for acid reflux and give you medication for your headaches.
- 6:35But if you come, you know, with the headaches, and then you have.
- 6:38Postnasal drip.
- 6:39Have palpitations.
- 6:40Then you also have stomach issues.
- 6:42And you have a rash on your skin.
- 6:44Now I won't be able to handle all that.
- 6:46Although all of the might be related.
- 6:48That's like an infection, Everything is related.
- 6:50Toxins and everything inflammation, but I'm only allowed to address one to two.
- 6:54So then we have to decide which one is the most problematic.
- 6:57Is it the headache is a pill.
- 6:59I mean, of course the headache is in a very discomfort is going to create more discomfort.
- 7:03Then, then I give you a pill.
- 7:04So that's what an office visit is.
- 7:06And the problem with that is that you cannot really, as I mentioned, can identify the wheel issue.
- 7:11There's no real solution.
- 7:12You will either be put in a medication for a long time and be forgotten.
- 7:16And you stay on that medication for a very long time.
- 7:19Or you might experience side effects of the medication and new you reach out to the doctor.
- 7:24They haven't changed the medication.
- 7:25Your body can get used to the medication.
- 7:27So it doesn't work.
- 7:28So at the end of the day, 10 to 15 minutes of seeing the patient is not ideal.
- 7:32To me.
- 7:32That's not something I would want for my patients for myself.
- 7:36And that is something we should, as medical practitioners look into fixing.
- 7:41I understand insurance has a lot to do with this.
- 7:43Because we have to see so many people to bring revenue into the practice.
- 7:47But I'm sure there's a solution or this where we can provide the most.
- 7:51Effective care.
- 7:53To our patients and really help them.
- 7:55Address.
- 7:56The half issues so they can.
- 7:58Start healing.
- 7:59And stay healthy.
- 8:00So that's an office visit.
- 8:02Again, every single human being, listening to this podcast.
- 8:05Have experienced office visit can agree with some or two things that I sit in this first part of the podcast.
- 8:11regarding the office visit.
- 8:12But that's just the way it is.
- 8:14To me, there are two types of consultation.
- 8:16There's a consultation that you.
- 8:17Have.
- 8:18In.
- 8:18The conventional.
- 8:20Medicine space.
- 8:21And then there's a consultation that she experienced in the functional medicine space.
- 8:26In a conventional medicine space.
- 8:28Uh, consultation with a doctor or an expert is a meeting with them.
- 8:32To discuss a particular problem and get the advice.
- 8:36Consultation is the process of getting advice from your doctors or expert?
- 8:39That's the dictionary.
- 8:41Definition of consultation in the conventional space.
- 8:45For me in a functional medicine space, a consultation.
- 8:50He has a process of meeting with.
- 8:52Your doctor holistic doctor, any type of doctor.
- 8:55In the functional medicine space.
- 8:57To help identify the with cause.
- 9:00Come up with the right.
- 9:03Customize individualize.
- 9:05Protocol for you.
- 9:06It is hard to conclude or come up with a diagnosis on the first accounter during the consultation.
- 9:13That is why in the functional medicine space, a consultation it's two office visits.
- 9:18So that's my process.
- 9:19That's what I do at my patient.
- 9:21They'll pay a fee of$430 at the time of this recording.
- 9:25And we'll do.
- 9:27The consultation.
- 9:27So first they will receive an intake form and the food journal.
- 9:32They will complete both forms and a consent for treatment consent sign as well.
- 9:36They'll sign that and send it over.
- 9:38Everything is electronic.
- 9:40Prior to coming in with, ask them for them to upload.
- 9:44The previous blood work.
- 9:45Because we do not want to repeat things that were done already.
- 9:48Not only, it's not fair to the patient.
- 9:50and they paying out of pocket.
- 9:52At the same time, if the doctor that prescribed the blood work.
- 9:56I was able to find them with cars.
- 9:57They would have had to work cause already.
- 9:59So for me, I'm always to look, I'm always to find, I'm always trying to do.
- 10:03And look for things that are not the same.
- 10:06So I can give the patient a different solution, a different answer.
- 10:09So they complete the intake form.
- 10:11They complete the seven day food journal, the Sunday concentric man, they upload the blood work.
- 10:16I look at all this documents.
- 10:18I usually take an hour to an hour and a half the pendant and the severity of the case.
- 10:23to study the intake form.
- 10:25To study the, previous blood work.
- 10:27And also to look at the food journal in preparation for the consultation.
- 10:32The first hour.com.
- 10:33We'll talk about all about what's going on with them, the concerns, the issues they have in, we address all the issues from your head.
- 10:41Do you have to, because again, if you have brain fog, You have fatigue.
- 10:45You have headaches, you have, population you have, yes, it could be anxiety.
- 10:49It could be migraine could be good issues.
- 10:51We have to put everything on the table.
- 10:53The goal of functional medicine is to restore the function of your body.
- 10:57So I can not only address the migraine when I am really putting an effort in identifying those cause.
- 11:05There's a reason why you have to migraine.
- 11:07So there's a reason why you have the urinary tract infection.
- 11:10There's a reason why you have anxiety.
- 11:12There's a reason why you have insomnia difficulty sleeping.
- 11:16The brain fog fatigue.
- 11:17So that's all as reason why.
- 11:19And by me just seeing you for 15 minutes or even 30 minutes, because that's how long it takes in the conventional world to do a consultation 30 to 45 minutes.
- 11:27That's it.
- 11:28They might be able to do some skins and then you meet with the doctor weekly to go over the scans or they'll call you.
- 11:35Over the phone to go over the scan.
- 11:36To me, that is not a true, true way of doing a consultation.
- 11:40You have to meet with the human beings individually twice.
- 11:43And each office visit is an hour long.
- 11:45So in my world, the consultation is the prep time that I take.
- 11:49The study does, I don't want to flip pages at Norma to look at the intake form while the patient is in front of me.
- 11:55I want to focus on what they are telling me, because I need to identify and also come to term with the person they were before with the person they are now because the discomfort or disease body they have before they weren't born with that.
- 12:09They were healthy at one point in the lives, or maybe they had little aches and pains there, but as the symptoms are progressing, they're getting worse.
- 12:16We need to identify the person that has less issues so that we can see what the normal is for them.
- 12:22That requires an hour long of asking the why questions.
- 12:25And asking of what worked, what didn't work, what did they try before with other doctors?
- 12:30And also.
- 12:32It is, the goal not to repeat what was done before.
- 12:35So if I see a doctor, give the patient medication for high blood pressure.
- 12:39And it's put in the, intake form.
- 12:41Then I'm not going to say, What did the doctor do?
- 12:43They give him medication for, high blood pressure?
- 12:45I saw it in the intake form.
- 12:46So that is why we ask our patients to complete the intake form as much as possible.
- 12:50So I can get all the information that I need to really help them.
- 12:54That's the first portion of the consultation hour.
- 12:56We talk, we identify what's going on.
- 12:59Right then and there I'm able to give them a diagnosis.
- 13:02I'm able to see what's going on with them, I, but I will let them know.
- 13:06I think you might have this, I think from all the symptoms you.
- 13:09You're reporting to me.
- 13:11There are multiple issues going on in your body.
- 13:13However, in order for us to really pinpoint the word issue, to come up with the word cause of all these health conditions or the symptoms and disease.
- 13:23We need to do blood work.
- 13:24Then I will give him a script.
- 13:26For them to go to blood work.
- 13:27And then once the blood work is available.
- 13:30Then they will come back for a second part of the consultation.
- 13:33So it's two office visits.
- 13:35The first one is just getting to know the person here and what worked, what didn't work and prescribing blood work.
- 13:41And then the second portion is to go over the blood work with them.
- 13:44One by one.
- 13:46To really address.
- 13:48The abnormal values to educate them, to let them know they're not crazy.
- 13:53Then I broke in something is going on.
- 13:55Regardless, other doctors told them everything is normal.
- 13:58There's nothing wrong with them.
- 13:59But the blood work is showing otherwise.
- 14:01And this is what we're going to do.
- 14:02So we go over the blood work section by section markers, biomarkers.
- 14:06I'm always pinpointed things that are going up and things that are going down.
- 14:10and the blood work that I do is completely different than most blood work.
- 14:13So many of those markers, even if I were to just call them on the phone and say, Hey, this, and this is elevated, they will get very confused.
- 14:20Because.
- 14:21Regular doctors, the typical doctors are not prescribing blood work that I prescribed.
- 14:25The goal for me in the initial investment of the consultation is to identify the with cause.
- 14:31So I don't want to miss anything.
- 14:33I'm always going to do blood work that is mostly covered by insurance, but.
- 14:37During the first visit.
- 14:38consultation the patient and I will sit down and discuss the best options for them.
- 14:43I'm making recommendations, but it is up to them.
- 14:45To decide what's best for them.
- 14:46I will give him all the information.
- 14:48I think he should do functional blood work.
- 14:49That takes you to conventional blood work, but at the end of the day, They get to decide.
- 14:53Which one, according to whatever financial situation they're going through or, insurance, or we decide that.
- 15:00And then they go off and do the blood work.
- 15:02At the end of new, if you end the blood work in the second part of the consultation.
- 15:06I will prescribe.
- 15:07Oh, recommend or present.
- 15:09A protocol.
- 15:10Am I protocols are usually almost customized individualized for the patient.
- 15:15But if we are enrolled in a group program, then the protocol will be somewhat customized for the patients, but I'm also always choosing.
- 15:25The products that have proven to work for majority of people out there.
- 15:29And within the group program, patient will have access to me as well to tell me how well they're doing and we can make changes there.
- 15:36They still get in.
- 15:37Semi customized protocol.
- 15:39But if I'm working with a patient that has fatty liver disease and every single human being in the program has fatty liver disease.
- 15:46Great.
- 15:47And I'm giving them a plateau or meal plan.
- 15:49Herbs for fatty liver disease, they all going to get the same herbs and products.
- 15:54However, we might tweak it for different for one or two people if they have, if they are sensitive to herbs.
- 15:59So we always looking for ways to.
- 16:01Really cater to the individual what are you in a group or doing the one-on-one.
- 16:05So that is a consultation.
- 16:07It is a two-part process.
- 16:09It is focused on identifying the root cause of the problem.
- 16:13It is focused on partnering up with the patient.
- 16:15But the goal of the consultation besides a site, aside from fighting the would cause.
- 16:21It's really too.
- 16:22Educate.
- 16:23The patient.
- 16:23They need to know what's going on in the body.
- 16:26So I take a lot of time doing the consultation to educate the patient.
- 16:30I laughed.
- 16:30Because it is important.
- 16:32For them, not only to know it, but to understand it.
- 16:36And the case of bloat when people have bloating.
- 16:38So when you have bloating, It's because you eat in something and the pathogen is fermenting on that food, and then you blocked, There's guys produce a new blocked.
- 16:47If you have, you know, a rash, you need to understand the reason we have a rash because you have toxins coming out of your pores.
- 16:54And the toxins weren't properly managed or processed by your liver, by your kidneys.
- 16:58Now they are in your bloodstream and now you have acne psoriasis.
- 17:02Eczema.
- 17:03You know, so on and so forth.
- 17:04When the patient understands that they understand that they need to do some work to decrease the toxic load, or they need to make changes in the diet to really help them.
- 17:14Tackle these issues.
- 17:16Properly.
- 17:16The most effective.
- 17:17Way.
- 17:18I'm a big fan for consultation in the functional medicine space.
- 17:22Seeing your doctor.
- 17:24Twice.
- 17:25And our visit each time getting tons of education, understanding information.
- 17:32Doing the proper blood work without breaking your bank.
- 17:35And also looking.
- 17:37And identifying the would cause.
- 17:39So hopefully at the end of this podcast, You understand the huge difference between a standard appointment doctor's appointment.
- 17:46Office visit.
- 17:46This is a consultation.
- 17:48Even the consultation in the medical or conventional space is still brief is 30 minutes, 45 minutes.
- 17:54and sometimes there's no we'll follow up or you just get a call with an insert.
- 17:59And have a patient who did a consultation with an oncologist.
- 18:02She has breast cancer.
- 18:03And they sent her out to do a biopsy.
- 18:05They literally called her on the phone and said, you have cancer.
- 18:08Hello, you have cancer.
- 18:09That's horrible.
- 18:10She's been losing sleep.
- 18:12She hasn't been eating because cancer is not something that anybody wants.
- 18:15With all the one that got sick, but to call the human being on the phone and say you have cancer.
- 18:19and then she asked to see the report.
- 18:21She went through her portal and look at the report and she has no idea what all these numbers and measurements and doctor this.
- 18:28And like, she has no idea, like.
- 18:31Cancer is a carcinoma.
- 18:32She has no idea.
- 18:33But nobody sat down and explained to her.
- 18:36They just thought she has cancer.
- 18:37She needs to come and discuss treatment options.
- 18:39And they started telling radiation this chemotherapy that she might be on a medication for five years.
- 18:45And so there's a lab.
- 18:46One I heard over the phone.
- 18:47Which is not right.
- 18:48Even when you do go see a doctor.
- 18:50For follow-up after a consultation to go over the results.
- 18:53Or imaging results of blood work.
- 18:56It's very brief.
- 18:57So you have to really create room for the person to absorb the information so they don't go into information overload.
- 19:05To understand what you're saying, because it's all about understanding once.
- 19:08The patient understand something.
- 19:10They can truly, truly understand it.
- 19:12Then they'll know why they need to do what they need to do.
- 19:15You don't have to force them to do anything.
- 19:17They'll take actions.
- 19:18So that's why I'm huge in educating.
- 19:20My patients so that they can literally understand what's going on internally.
- 19:25And implement the recommendations.
- 19:27And see results.
- 19:28All right.
- 19:29So if you have not done, so please share, subscribe to the podcast, please share it.
- 19:34Tell people, this podcast is making a difference in your life.
- 19:37In your loved one's life in your family's life.
- 19:40I'm looking for.
- 19:41To really get this message to at least a hundred people per week.
- 19:46So I need your help to share on this, subscribe this to the podcast.
- 19:49And I'm doing my best to win we are life information, Work cases.
- 19:53And we're working behind the scenes very hard.
- 19:55So I need your help to really help promote the podcast.
- 19:57If you have any questions, you want to know how we work with patients.
