- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, we've got Mets manager Carlos Mendoza joining us
- 0:07Speaker 1: right now, fresh off the Little League Classic.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Mandy, great to have you on and just want to
- 0:11Speaker 2: get your.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Overall thoughts on how it was out there to be
- 0:15Speaker 1: the manager of the Mets, get a win and have
- 0:17Speaker 1: an awesome experience with all the young talented kids out
- 0:20Speaker 1: there who love having you.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Yeah, what's going on, fellas Scottie Gratzy a j.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Yeah, back in DC now after a long day yesterday,
- 0:31Speaker 4: but special day, you know.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Experience.
- 0:36Speaker 4: A lot of you know, very good conversations with kids,
- 0:41Speaker 4: coaches and just you know, just going through the whole experience.
- 0:44Speaker 3: He was pretty cool.
- 0:44Speaker 4: And then definitely you know, playing our game and getting
- 0:47Speaker 4: the victory obviously, but yeah, it was uh, he was
- 0:51Speaker 4: just it was great experience, man, getting off the boss,
- 0:55Speaker 4: getting off the plane and just having the Venezuelan team
- 0:59Speaker 4: there that from my hometown, which I didn't know.
- 1:03Speaker 3: It was pretty special.
- 1:04Speaker 4: You know, I think we get on the balls, the
- 1:05Speaker 4: kids get in the boss and then you know some
- 1:08Speaker 4: of our players, you know, our superstars, you know.
- 1:10Speaker 3: They start walking on the boss and you see the
- 1:12Speaker 3: faces on those kids.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Man, it was just like I was just having a
- 1:15Speaker 4: blast because I know how hard it is for the
- 1:18Speaker 4: for them to make it all the way here and
- 1:21Speaker 4: then for them to just beat that close to their hearers.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You know, it was just unbelievable.
- 1:28Speaker 5: All Right, Mandy, Before I ask you my next question,
- 1:29Speaker 5: I need you to turn move the camera because you're
- 1:31Speaker 5: kind of not.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Let's we want to be able to see all of
- 1:35Speaker 1: you so we can make sure we get them all.
- 1:38Speaker 6: So he can. Yeah, could you see yourself on the camera?
- 1:41Speaker 6: Can you adjust it so you're in the.
- 1:43Speaker 1: In the middle of the other way, other way, other way?
- 1:48Speaker 1: A J is a good, good manager of television at
- 1:51Speaker 1: this point.
- 1:52Speaker 5: All right, So I really just want to know Venezuela's
- 1:54Speaker 5: playing right now as we speak. Okay, they're winning nothing
- 1:57Speaker 5: in the first Did you speak to another team or
- 2:01Speaker 5: did you just now you are out of the camera
- 2:03Speaker 5: against you or did you just talk to the Venezuelan team,
- 2:07Speaker 5: or did you just hang out with Venezuela and say
- 2:09Speaker 5: screw the rest of these teams?
- 2:10Speaker 6: I was just going my home team.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say screwed everyone. I think they specifically
- 2:19Speaker 3: wanted me to hang out with the team. Okay, Okay,
- 2:22Speaker 3: I just follow instructions.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Okay, okay, because the rose Erna was with the Mexican team, right,
- 2:27Speaker 5: even though he's from Cuba, but he lived in Mexico.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Played, he plays for Mexico and the w b C.
- 2:33Speaker 3: So yeah, that makes sense.
- 2:35Speaker 4: I know they had me, they had all the they
- 2:38Speaker 4: had torrent and Acuna. Uh pretty much locked team with
- 2:41Speaker 4: the Venezuelan team.
- 2:42Speaker 3: So nice. Good he was first and third.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I was.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I was watching it too, and uh he was first.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Nothing right now, there's there's some shots of the guys
- 2:56Speaker 1: in the crowd, including Acuna.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So Mandy, Well, was the funniest thing.
- 3:01Speaker 1: It was the darnest thing a kid said to either
- 3:04Speaker 1: you or any of the Mets staff or players out there.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Anything like really funny, I mean viral wise, the the
- 3:12Speaker 1: toilet seat that big dumper cal Raley signed, that was funny.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Anything else that we missed.
- 3:19Speaker 3: No, not really.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Like I said, I think that the kids were just
- 3:23Speaker 4: kind of like in Heaven, to be honest with you,
- 3:25Speaker 4: for them to just be that close to these superstars,
- 3:30Speaker 4: it was just pretty surreal. And you could see like
- 3:33Speaker 4: Alvarez is talking to one of the catchers and the
- 3:35Speaker 4: kids just like like he's like man, like, I can't
- 3:39Speaker 4: believe I'm talking to Francisco Alvaris. Then one sudden, Lindor
- 3:43Speaker 4: walks by, and then like it was just I was
- 3:47Speaker 4: just kind of putting myself on their shoes, and I
- 3:50Speaker 4: know where they're coming from, and har was for them
- 3:52Speaker 4: to get here.
- 3:54Speaker 3: It was just, you know, like I was, I was
- 3:57Speaker 3: enjoyed a big time.
- 3:59Speaker 7: All right, is Alvarez Okay, you brought up Francis Carmers.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Okay, we don't know, man, he's I'm waiting at any
- 4:08Speaker 4: moment he's he went back to New York. He's getting
- 4:11Speaker 4: an MRI. I so we should not hear, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 4: in the next couple of hours.
- 4:15Speaker 3: But praying, what.
- 4:18Speaker 7: Does he what does he mean to your team? Because
- 4:20Speaker 7: I've always said, you know, everyone's everyone talks about his hitting, okay,
- 4:23Speaker 7: and then he got sent down to Triple A and
- 4:25Speaker 7: all this stuff. To me, it is a young catcher
- 4:27Speaker 7: who brought you guys this close to the World Series.
- 4:32Speaker 7: And I think more than his stats, what he brings,
- 4:35Speaker 7: that energy that he brings to this team. But you
- 4:38Speaker 7: tell me, you see it day in and day out.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you're not missing anything crazy. Is this
- 4:44Speaker 4: is a kid that it was hard for him this year.
- 4:47Speaker 4: You know, we got to a point where we needed
- 4:49Speaker 4: to send him back to the minors, and to his credit,
- 4:52Speaker 4: didn't pout and he would just went right to work
- 4:55Speaker 4: and put himself in a position where hey man, like,
- 4:58Speaker 4: I'm ready to go back up.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And since his been here, he's a completely different player.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Uh.
- 5:03Speaker 4: And we saw at the very first game, the first
- 5:05Speaker 4: half bat, we're on defense, hitter gets to two strikes.
- 5:10Speaker 4: He you know, he calls a pitch, he's a bully
- 5:12Speaker 4: in the dirt, and right away he gets to the
- 5:15Speaker 4: blocking position. He blocks the ball back to back pitches.
- 5:17Speaker 4: We we didn't see that before we set him down.
- 5:20Speaker 4: He was just trying to pick everything, you know, and
- 5:22Speaker 4: trying to frame everything where it's like, hey man, like
- 5:24Speaker 4: the blocking as you guys know as catchers, you know.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Uh uh, Which, then great, we'll bring him.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Back so we can have the conversation or whatever.
- 5:35Speaker 7: Yeah, we lost him. We lost Mandy. Mandy used to
- 5:37Speaker 7: be with the Yankees. Maybe he's got the Yankees. Wi
- 5:40Speaker 7: Fi just that joke, that joke never never stops playing.
- 5:44Speaker 2: No, it doesn't. I mean I don't think we.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Got to pay the nine.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, some of the newer FT fans don't know about it,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but Yanks had to pay for Wi Fi on the plane.
- 5:54Speaker 2: That was the report right all right here, let's ask him?
- 5:56Speaker 6: Was that was that the report on ALVAREZK because we
- 5:59Speaker 6: need to know.
- 6:01Speaker 3: No, no, I don't know. I mean, why five issues?
- 6:03Speaker 4: I guess here the hotel, Yeah, it's nineteen ninety nine
- 6:07Speaker 4: that we have to pay.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I guess.
- 6:08Speaker 7: The sweet, the sweet. You got to get that in
- 6:11Speaker 7: your next contract. Sweet and free WiFi, Mandy, I get it,
- 6:15Speaker 7: I get it.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Back to all.
- 6:18Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, he was just a completely different player defensively, offensively,
- 6:23Speaker 8: but just the energy and how he invests he is
- 6:26Speaker 8: on the pitching staff, how much he cares about the
- 6:29Speaker 8: about those guys, and he takes it personal when we're
- 6:33Speaker 8: not pitching well, which we haven't.
- 6:35Speaker 4: We went through stretch where he's been hard for us
- 6:39Speaker 4: and he takes it personal. But we're just kind of
- 6:43Speaker 4: praying right now because he's a big part of this
- 6:45Speaker 4: team and we're just you know, hoping for the best.

- 7:51Speaker 2: Mendy, how big was this weekend?
- 7:54Speaker 1: After what the team has gone through, which is just
- 7:56Speaker 1: uncharacteristic of course for any ball club? What was that
- 8:00Speaker 1: like just now? And do you feel like you've gotten
- 8:03Speaker 1: through it? Because the team won a series here, you
- 8:06Speaker 1: saw some good signs, even from a rookie, which we'll
- 8:08Speaker 1: get into and McLean, But what was it like from
- 8:11Speaker 1: from then that two and a half week period and
- 8:14Speaker 1: then this weekend?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean two and a half week.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I think he felt like it's been more than two
- 8:20Speaker 4: and a half that we've been going through it. But
- 8:24Speaker 4: you know, it's been hard. It's been hard. It's been
- 8:25Speaker 4: a tough stretch, frustrating one. We are all frustrated, frustrated,
- 8:31Speaker 4: but for us to be able to win a series
- 8:33Speaker 4: against a very good team, that Mariners team is a
- 8:36Speaker 4: really good team. You know, that's a deep lineup, it's
- 8:39Speaker 4: a really good pitching staff.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Uh.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And for us to be able after losing the first one, uh,
- 8:44Speaker 4: the way we did it was it was important, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 4: the satur of the game. Last night game, I feel like,
- 8:52Speaker 4: you know, you guys know everything. It starts with starting pitching,
- 8:55Speaker 4: and we haven't been able to get that consistency from them.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I felt like singa lot time.
- 9:00Speaker 4: He's last outing going into the sixth inning, followed by
- 9:04Speaker 4: my claim that we'll talk about it. And then yesterday
- 9:08Speaker 4: Clay giving us a solid five innings. I thought he
- 9:11Speaker 4: was in position to go deeper before you know that,
- 9:15Speaker 4: eating got long. The fourth inning got long. But that's
- 9:18Speaker 4: where it starts, you know. Continue to believe in the guys.
- 9:21Speaker 4: There's a lot of talent there, and I'm pretty confident
- 9:25Speaker 4: that we'll get through this.
- 9:27Speaker 6: Mandy.
- 9:27Speaker 7: I was.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I had the Yankees, your other team this weekend in
- 9:31Speaker 5: a game, and so I got to sit down with Boonie,
- 9:33Speaker 5: Aaron Boone and talk to him for a while. And
- 9:35Speaker 5: one of the questions they have been going through it too,
- 9:37Speaker 5: just like you guys were going through it. And I
- 9:39Speaker 5: know you worked there for the Yankees for a long time.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Do they teach you how to deal with things and
- 9:44Speaker 5: not let the frustration get to you? Because Aaron Boone
- 9:46Speaker 5: is one of the best I've ever seen it, being
- 9:48Speaker 5: even keel every time we talk to you, and I
- 9:49Speaker 5: see you can't tell if you're winning or losing. How
- 9:52Speaker 5: do you keep it together when stuff is hitting the fan?
- 9:55Speaker 5: You're in New York, everyone's watching you. They want you
- 9:58Speaker 5: to react, they want you to get a ject, get angry.
- 10:00Speaker 5: But you guys are the two most even killed dudes
- 10:02Speaker 5: I've ever seen in my life.
- 10:03Speaker 6: How do you guys do that?
- 10:05Speaker 4: It's part of it, you know. It comes with the territory.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Like you said, in New York, everything is magnified. But
- 10:11Speaker 4: I was glad that I was able to be UH
- 10:14Speaker 4: with Aaron and in the organization there for i don't know,
- 10:17Speaker 4: six seven years and going through ups and downs, and
- 10:19Speaker 4: it's just part of it. And it's different in New York.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It feels different, but starts with me as a manager,
- 10:24Speaker 4: UH to just be consistent and support continue to support
- 10:30Speaker 4: the guys. Yes, there's a there's a search of urgency,
- 10:33Speaker 4: but there's no panic, you know, and understanding that it's
- 10:36Speaker 4: gonna get loud. There's gonna be a lot of noise,
- 10:39Speaker 4: and you got to find a way to block all
- 10:41Speaker 4: of that and and continue to concentrate on what you're
- 10:44Speaker 4: supposed to do day in and day out.
- 10:46Speaker 3: As part of the manager, you take the heat, you know.
- 10:50Speaker 4: And it's on me UH to just continue to be
- 10:55Speaker 4: very supportive and continue to push guys, continue to teach guys,
- 10:59Speaker 4: continue to rely on your coaches, and you know, continue
- 11:03Speaker 4: to believe that the timing will come out.
- 11:08Speaker 7: Do you have a room in the clubhouse or something
- 11:10Speaker 7: where you can go in and just do one of
- 11:11Speaker 7: these like because there's always a camera on you. It's
- 11:17Speaker 7: like it's like the quarterback throws a perfect in a
- 11:19Speaker 7: football game, throws the perfect pass, dude drops it and
- 11:22Speaker 7: at some point he's gonna be like great, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 7: and they haven't caught you yet. So do you have
- 11:29Speaker 7: a room where you can like get those get those
- 11:32Speaker 7: faces out, because I know you got some. You're Venezuelan,
- 11:35Speaker 7: so you have a lot of You're very You're very
- 11:38Speaker 7: theatrical with your face.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure my wife will tell you is when
- 11:43Speaker 4: I get home, you know, is when I get home
- 11:47Speaker 4: that you know, they'll see their face and you know,
- 11:50Speaker 4: I got to get better. I feel like I've been better,
- 11:53Speaker 4: But I can't be taking that home, you know. But
- 11:57Speaker 4: I think he's probably back back of the house, but
- 12:01Speaker 4: nothing of this stadium.
- 12:02Speaker 3: To be honest with you, you can, you know, because
- 12:05Speaker 3: like you said, not only cameras, but people are always
- 12:08Speaker 3: around you.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I need to be there for the coaches, I need
- 12:11Speaker 4: to be there for the support staff.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I need to be there for the players, you know.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And he's just all part of it.
- 12:18Speaker 7: Yeah, no doubt. And I have to go to the
- 12:20Speaker 7: stretch and you guys went through with the you know,
- 12:23Speaker 7: starters not going during that time. How many conversations are
- 12:29Speaker 7: had with those starters?
- 12:32Speaker 2: No?
- 12:32Speaker 7: No starters like I hope I go four and dive,
- 12:35Speaker 7: you know when you joke about five and dive. But
- 12:39Speaker 7: how much have did you have to try to push
- 12:41Speaker 7: guys and then regret pushing them during that stretch where
- 12:45Speaker 7: guys just weren't going longer? Like and was it just
- 12:49Speaker 7: because you knew how taxing it was in the bullpen,
- 12:52Speaker 7: or how taxing it's gonna be on the bullpen if
- 12:55Speaker 7: you guys don't start getting length come September when you
- 12:59Speaker 7: guys are still fighting in this race.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 13:02Speaker 4: It was a tricky one and very difficult because we
- 13:07Speaker 4: were we were getting guys from Triple A making spots starts,
- 13:10Speaker 4: you know, and we're trying to piece it together. I mean,
- 13:13Speaker 4: it's hard to replace. So as soon as saying I
- 13:16Speaker 4: went down back in June twelfth, then you know, a
- 13:19Speaker 4: few days later Griffin Canning went down, and then mcguil
- 13:23Speaker 4: went down.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Like that's hard to replace.
- 13:25Speaker 4: The meantime, Montas is kind of rehabbing, Myneye is kind
- 13:30Speaker 4: of rehabbing.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And then he has a setback.
- 13:34Speaker 4: It's just he was I'm trying to push our starters,
- 13:38Speaker 4: but the guys are almost ninety pitches in the fourth inning,
- 13:42Speaker 4: Like how much can I push them?
- 13:44Speaker 3: You know?
- 13:46Speaker 4: Then the guy that we try and push a lot
- 13:49Speaker 4: was Pity. You know, he's been very consistent giving us
- 13:54Speaker 4: six innings. And the times that I felt like, hey,
- 13:58Speaker 4: he got through the sixth and he's a he's going
- 14:01Speaker 4: back out. I think there was a couple of times,
- 14:03Speaker 4: one in Atlanta, that I sent him back for the
- 14:06Speaker 4: eighth and the first two guys got on and then
- 14:09Speaker 4: whoever came in gave it up. But yeah, I mean,
- 14:12Speaker 4: like so we went through a stretch here where the
- 14:16Speaker 4: bullpen was feeling it, But it's because of how much
- 14:19Speaker 4: they've been used out of necessity, you know, like the
- 14:22Speaker 4: key is starting pitching, uh, And we've seen it in
- 14:25Speaker 4: the past few days, Like I said sing on Friday,
- 14:27Speaker 4: McClean clay. You know, once you start getting solid six
- 14:32Speaker 4: innings from your starters, it's easier for you know, to
- 14:35Speaker 4: manage the bullpen. But I feel like the past ten days,
- 14:39Speaker 4: I get somebody hot in the fourth inning, you know,
- 14:42Speaker 4: like it's just hard to continue to get fifteen outs
- 14:46Speaker 4: every night from your Bullpen.
- 14:49Speaker 5: I agree, we've been We've been talking about this for
- 14:51Speaker 5: a while, Mandy with you guys, and you got to
- 14:52Speaker 5: get length from your starters. Let's go, let's go to
- 14:54Speaker 5: some a little more positive. A guy broke the home
- 14:57Speaker 5: run record, Pete Alonso for the Mets franchise. Fans online
- 15:01Speaker 5: were saying that wasn't that big of a deal. I said,
- 15:03Speaker 5: it's a huge deal because he's the all time leader
- 15:06Speaker 5: and home runs for a franchise. How can people think
- 15:08Speaker 5: this isn't a big deal. It's a huge deal, and people,
- 15:11Speaker 5: I mean, I was happy as all get out for Pete.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I was more amazed at the highest that it was
- 15:15Speaker 5: only two hundred and fifty two for the Mets.
- 15:17Speaker 6: I thought it'd be in the three or four hundreds.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I mean, look, people are gonna have opinions, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and this is a big deal. You know, you're talking
- 15:27Speaker 4: about breaking an organizational record. Yeah, people might think only
- 15:31Speaker 4: two fifty three. Well, I mean it is what it is.
- 15:34Speaker 4: And now Pete is the guy, you know, and he
- 15:39Speaker 4: was a special moment for all of us. You see
- 15:41Speaker 4: right there, you know, everybody's on their feet. The whole
- 15:44Speaker 4: team came out of the dog out. It was just
- 15:46Speaker 4: special in just watching Pete and how much he meant
- 15:50Speaker 4: to him. It was just pretty surreal. You know, again,
- 15:54Speaker 4: it's all about winning for him, but now that he's
- 15:57Speaker 4: at the top, we celebrated and it is a big
- 16:01Speaker 4: deal for us.
- 16:02Speaker 7: All Right, two pitchers got to talk about Ryan Helsley
- 16:05Speaker 7: and Frankie Montas. Ryan Helsley's in a new role. Edwin
- 16:09Speaker 7: Diaz is your closer and Ryan Helsley's trying to figure
- 16:13Speaker 7: out that new role. How is that transition taken care
- 16:18Speaker 7: of by by you, your pitching coaches, your you know, Gibby,
- 16:21Speaker 7: your bench coach. How is that transition Ben as far
- 16:26Speaker 7: as like talking to him about it, and also the
- 16:29Speaker 7: transition for Frankie now out of the rotation.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Yeah, with health.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I mean we were very transparent and you got to
- 16:36Speaker 4: give the guy credit. He was willing to do whatever
- 16:38Speaker 4: it takes. As soon as he got here. He if
- 16:40Speaker 4: you need me to pitch at seventh, you need me
- 16:42Speaker 4: to pitch at eighth, the ninth, I'm good for whatever
- 16:45Speaker 4: I want to win. And right away we were like, hey, man, like,
- 16:48Speaker 4: you know, there's gonna be days where Edwin is down.
- 16:51Speaker 3: You're gonna get the last three three outs.
- 16:53Speaker 4: There's gonna be days where you're gonna be pitching in
- 16:54Speaker 4: the eighth, you're gonna be pitching the seventh. The one
- 16:57Speaker 4: thing we'll try and do our best is once we
- 17:00Speaker 4: get too hot, most likely you're gonna come in the game.
- 17:03Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:04Speaker 4: These closers are so used to like when when they
- 17:06Speaker 4: get they get up during the game.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Uh.
- 17:09Speaker 4: And that's what we've kind of been doing with him,
- 17:11Speaker 4: you know, and kind of like letting him know ahead
- 17:14Speaker 4: of time, Hey, this is.
- 17:15Speaker 3: What we're thinking today. It could be as early as
- 17:16Speaker 3: the seventh, or it could be the eighth, it could
- 17:19Speaker 3: be the ninth.
- 17:21Speaker 4: But and I feel like he's adjusted well, we haven't
- 17:24Speaker 4: had the performance that he will want it and we
- 17:27Speaker 4: will want it. But it was good to see that
- 17:28Speaker 4: inning last night where he was able to execute, especially
- 17:32Speaker 4: the secondary pitches. I feel like that slider's been getting
- 17:36Speaker 4: hit because he's staying in middle middle, especially when he's ahead.
- 17:39Speaker 3: He's got too good of a stuff.
- 17:41Speaker 4: We're not worried about him because again, he's elite and
- 17:45Speaker 4: he's going to continue to get big ask for us,
- 17:47Speaker 4: Frankie Montas, Uh, this is a different situation, you know,
- 17:51Speaker 4: it's new for him.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Everything is new for him.
- 17:53Speaker 4: He's more like the lone relief role, multiple inning guy,
- 17:58Speaker 4: and with him we have to give him a heads
- 18:00Speaker 4: up way ahead of time. We got to get him
- 18:02Speaker 4: going and he's got to go through his old routine,
- 18:04Speaker 4: like for him to come in the middle of an inning,
- 18:07Speaker 4: We're gonna have to get way ahead.
- 18:09Speaker 3: So that's what we did. We did it the other day.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Spanning came in finished that inning and then at the
- 18:14Speaker 4: same time month I was kind of going through his
- 18:15Speaker 4: routine and we got him in the game, and then
- 18:18Speaker 4: the recovery is going to take a little longer than
- 18:20Speaker 4: your normal reliever. But again, this is where we at
- 18:23Speaker 4: on our season. Frankie wants to start, and we signed
- 18:28Speaker 4: him to be a starter, but where we at, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 4: we need him in the bullpen.
- 18:32Speaker 3: And he was all on more as well.
- 18:34Speaker 1: All right, last one, let's finish strong. Nolan McLain makes
- 18:37Speaker 1: his debut on Saturday.
- 18:39Speaker 2: He dazzles. It was awesome. The behind the back play
- 18:43Speaker 2: was sick too.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And since we have time for one more answer here,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I also just want to include the fact that he
- 18:49Speaker 1: was trying to do a two way thing in the
- 18:51Speaker 1: minor leagues for a little bit, right, do you know
- 18:53Speaker 1: his hitting ability? Like, could he pop in as a
- 18:56Speaker 1: pin shitter if you're at a pin shitters one day?
- 18:59Speaker 3: No, let him pitch. Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Last year in spring training I was talking to Andy
- 19:06Speaker 4: Green and he was like, hey, man, you got a guy.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Here's a two way player. The hitting is I don't
- 19:15Speaker 4: we don't see this for too long. We're gont to
- 19:18Speaker 4: just let him pitch, and I wouldn't be surprised if
- 19:22Speaker 4: he pitches for you this year. I was like, Wow,
- 19:24Speaker 4: this is twenty twenty four. This year he doesn't come
- 19:27Speaker 4: to big league camp and I went back to the backfields.
- 19:31Speaker 4: He was supposed to throw a li VP and that's
- 19:32Speaker 4: when I met him for the first time. And right
- 19:34Speaker 4: away you see it. The way he carried himself. There's
- 19:37Speaker 4: something different about this kid. And everything that we heard,
- 19:41Speaker 4: you know, the whole year talking to Dickie's got a
- 19:44Speaker 4: triple A manager and the reports that we were getting. Yes,
- 19:47Speaker 4: the way his ability to spin the baseball, it was
- 19:50Speaker 4: just more like the mound pressing. His ability to fill
- 19:53Speaker 4: his position, control the running game. They feel for pitching, Yes,
- 19:57Speaker 4: he's got stuff, but he knows how to pitch as well.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Uh if we saw it right away the first day,
- 20:02Speaker 4: first out, and you know he gets in trouble. Uh
- 20:05Speaker 4: basis loaded got Rodriguez had to play, and I was like,
- 20:09Speaker 4: all right, let's see, let's see what we got.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Kid makes a pitch, obviously gets a grumble. We don't
- 20:13Speaker 3: teach that behind the back.
- 20:14Speaker 4: But for him to be able to just play catch, uh,
- 20:17Speaker 4: finish that play and then just after that, uh, his
- 20:21Speaker 4: ability to spin the baseball when he's behind in count,
- 20:24Speaker 4: the sinker, not afraid the pitch, and side when he
- 20:27Speaker 4: needs to. Like, there was a lot to like that day,
- 20:29Speaker 4: and I'm excited about these kids.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Okay, before I let you go, Before we let you go, you,
- 20:34Speaker 5: I know you got to get to work. But here's
- 20:36Speaker 5: the real question. When you are mad. I know we
- 20:38Speaker 5: asked you this earlier. Is there a coach or is
- 20:39Speaker 5: there a player or trainer or someone on staff that
- 20:42Speaker 5: makes you laugh? And I know it's not Gibby because
- 20:44Speaker 5: Gibby's always grumpy. Might be Chavez, maybe someone else and
- 20:48Speaker 5: we don't know about it makes you laugh.
- 20:50Speaker 6: And if it's not, you can always call me Mandy.
- 20:52Speaker 6: I'll listen to your bitch and moan.
- 20:54Speaker 7: It's fine.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Take it off your wife. I might not really listen,
- 20:57Speaker 5: but I might just answer the phone. You can pitch
- 20:59Speaker 5: your moan and then you're done. I might fall asleep
- 21:01Speaker 5: and I'll hang up when I wake up.
- 21:03Speaker 4: I got a good group here, man, I got a
- 21:04Speaker 4: good group of coaches. Guys are consistent. There are a
- 21:07Speaker 4: lot of experience, a lot of different personalities. They keep
- 21:09Speaker 4: it loose. They try to keep it fun even when
- 21:12Speaker 4: he's not fun. But you have to find a way
- 21:14Speaker 4: to make it fun. Uh So, Yeah, I'm just proud
- 21:17Speaker 4: of the whole group in this poor staff, and we'll
- 21:20Speaker 4: get this thing going.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I just get more Fox games so a j
- 21:24Speaker 1: could come, you know, mess around, but.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I'll messing around, I'm.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Saying in a fun way before the game, you know,
- 21:31Speaker 1: keep them happy. Like you said, you're the You're the
- 21:34Speaker 1: therapy guy right here, Bendy awesome catching up. Yeah, I'll
- 21:37Speaker 1: had a lot to cover there. Appreciate it and enjoy
- 21:40Speaker 1: the time over in DC. We'll catch you soon, Oh
- 21:43Speaker 1: I
- 21:43Speaker 3: Feelings, take care
