- 0:00Speaker 1: Light FM, happy Friday. Big shout-out to my buddy Dan.
- 0:02Speaker 1: He works at Safer Electric. He's my electrician, and he's
- 0:06Speaker 1: in the van right now with Jayden heading to a job.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And I haven't heard from him in a long time. So, Dan,
- 0:11Speaker 1: thank you for listening. Again, the company is in New Jersey.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'll give them a shout-out because they're great. They're called
- 0:15Speaker 1: Safer Electric.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 0:17Speaker 1: If you're looking for a good electrician.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I have a Dan the electrician, too.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You do, too? That's so funny.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You have a Dan the electrician?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Dan the electricians are great.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, if you're heading to work, you got your
- 0:29Speaker 1: latte in your hand. How much did you pay for
- 0:32Speaker 1: that latte?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Why does it cost seven bucks to get a latte
- 0:35Speaker 2: when you can make it for like a dollar at home?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Are they making money off this? Is it costing them
- 0:40Speaker 1: to make it? Is it more to make? I don't
- 0:42Speaker 1: understand what's going on.
- 0:43Speaker 2: This is pretty cool. So a barista went on TikTok
- 0:46Speaker 2: and broke it down for us. So somebody who works
- 0:48Speaker 2: in a coffee shop is letting us know why we're
- 0:51Speaker 2: paying $ 7 for the latte. He said the cup and
- 0:54Speaker 2: the lid cost $ 0. 25. The double shot of espresso cost
- 0:58Speaker 2: the shop $ 0. 50. The milk, $ 0. 50. And the labor is
- 1:02Speaker 2: about $ 19 an hour. He says labor accounts for $ 3. 50
- 1:08Speaker 2: towards that latte.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I never thought of that, actually. You know, when you
- 1:14Speaker 1: buy coffee, you are paying the workers, too. Right.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And then they said they calculated this all together. The
- 1:21Speaker 2: latte contributes about a dollar toward rent and overhead costs.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Put it all together, the coffee shop is paying about
- 1:30Speaker 2: $ 5. 75 per latte. They need to turn a profit. You
- 1:34Speaker 2: end up with $ 7. 00.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So they're not necessarily crushing it. It does make sense, actually. Right.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm defending a $ 7 latte.
- 1:42Speaker 2: You and me both. I thought there would be like, oh,
- 1:44Speaker 2: it costs us $ 0. 20 to make it and you're paying $ 7.
- 1:48Speaker 2: But this is kind of breaking it down as to
- 1:50Speaker 2: why it's so expensive.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, because I just think of the ingredients. Like, how
- 1:54Speaker 1: much are all the ingredients? But you brought up, you're
- 1:56Speaker 1: paying the rent.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You're paying the workers.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Is there ever a price that's just too high for
- 2:03Speaker 1: you that you won't do it? Like, that's it. I'm
- 2:05Speaker 1: just not going to buy it.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Sometimes. Sometimes I look at stuff.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And I do. And I'm like, this is crazy. But like,
- 2:10Speaker 2: if I've gone out of my way and I've got
- 2:11Speaker 2: a craving for whatever.
- 2:14Speaker 1: More cowbell?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Pumpkin spice latte, maybe.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It's like, all right, I'll do it. And I'll feel
- 2:19Speaker 2: like it's a splurge. And I just may not be
- 2:21Speaker 2: doing that too often. I agree. All right.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Give us your thoughts on this. $ 7 the average for
- 2:27Speaker 1: a latte. $ 4, $ 4, $ 3, $ 6, $ 3. All right. Coming up,
- 2:31Speaker 1: we have some big things happening. We have a flashback
- 2:33Speaker 1: track for a great prize coming up in 15 minutes.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Clay Aiken is back with new music. He'll be joining
- 2:39Speaker 1: us live at 8 o'clock. And also in the 8
- 2:41Speaker 1: o'clock hour, we're giving out $ 500. It's all right here
- 2:45Speaker 1: on a Friday at Light FM.
