- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. As I'm opening up their door,
- 0:32you may hear a background noise because their little auto door
- 0:35was not open. I actually beat the auto door to
- 0:39let them in the run and they're all popping out.
- 0:41It cracks me up how quickly they want to come out with that door
- 0:45opening. They're all just lined up
- 0:46inside. It's like boarding a plane for
- 0:49crying out loud, and it makes me laugh every time I get to see
- 0:52it. So I like coming out and getting
- 0:54here early enough and getting them to be able to pause for a
- 0:58second and just get myself set to watch it and say good morning
- 1:02to them. Anyway, I wanted to make you
- 1:04part of that process today because I think how you start
- 1:07your day is a huge part of everything that happens in the
- 1:10world. I mean, I truly believe that.
- 1:12I really believe that it is part of everything that happens when
- 1:15you how you start your day is a major, major, major piece of the
- 1:20puzzle. And when you start it the right
- 1:22way, you end up off at having a much better day overall.
- 1:26So you're here to start it with me today right in the well,
- 1:31probably like an hour and a half in because I've already been up
- 1:35and prepped their food and answered messages that I had to
- 1:39for clients that I'm seeing today and taking care of dogs,
- 1:43taking care of the cat and now and and the birds.
- 1:47And now I am here and I've already looked over the garden.
- 1:49But part of this, why I'm telling you all of this, there's
- 1:52a method to the madness here is that this morning is a very
- 1:57humid morning here. It's kind of, it's not sticky
- 2:01yet, but it's already 79° and it is, it is kind of sticky.
- 2:07I guess it is. And the air is extremely still
- 2:10that the trees are still. And there's really not a lot of
- 2:13sound other than the animals that are around.
- 2:16It's like very, very quiet. And here's what's interesting
- 2:19when it's like this, when you are in a state of mindfulness
- 2:23and you are very present, you start to notice lots of things
- 2:27that you wouldn't notice otherwise.
- 2:29So for instance, you really notice the, the scent in the
- 2:32air. I can smell the figs happening
- 2:36right now, like the figs are, are abundant right now on all
- 2:40the trees and you can smell that sweetness in the air.
- 2:43There's a, there's a particularly intense smell that
- 2:48happens because they're so they're growing so quickly.
- 2:51You can smell the tomatoes as you walk by the garden because
- 2:55those plants are just emitting, you know, that wonderful tomato
- 3:00odor. And because there's zero wind
- 3:02and because it it is so muggy, it's hanging in the air, you can
- 3:08smell the flowers. There's Jasmine growing and you
- 3:11can smell it and you can smell the roses as you're like, you
- 3:15don't even have to be on top of the bushes just walking by them.
- 3:19Now this is definitely mindfulness moments where you
- 3:23can, you're not just using your eyes, but you're using your
- 3:26senses to make sure you can smell everything.
- 3:30You can hear everything. You can hear Hawks off in the
- 3:33distance. You can hear certain things
- 3:35going on and it becomes a very, it becomes a very in the moment
- 3:42process like you are present with it.
- 3:45I love that and I love starting my day that way because it just
- 3:50puts you right with everything that's happening.
- 3:53I, I love watching things too, for sure.
- 3:55Like I love watching that. There's a whole portion of the
- 3:58chickens that one leave right away and they don't want their,
- 4:01their breakfast platters. And then the other ones, I mean,
- 4:04they have food all day long, so they don't have food insecurity.
- 4:07But there are others that are just very into, in tune with the
- 4:12fact that they want food right away.
- 4:15They want, you know, they, they instantaneously want food and
- 4:19they run right to the platters, which is a good thing.
- 4:21They run right to the platters and they want to get what they
- 4:24want to get. Then there are the others who
- 4:26are like, I don't really need to be there.
- 4:28I don't need to do that quite so much.
- 4:29I don't need to do all of that. And they just go their own way.
- 4:32They take off and they do what they want to do.
- 4:35I think for me it's such a great reminder of BU just you do what
- 4:40you need to do, you do where you need to go.
- 4:43I got a brand new water at the tractor supply yesterday.
- 4:49Mine someone of them. I have like water stations all
- 4:52over the farm for the chickens and one of them, my favorite big
- 4:55metal one that's the center of the the yard, the run for them
- 5:00broke and they couldn't use it for a couple days and then I got
- 5:04a brand new one and now there's a whole bunch of them around it
- 5:08and they're just they for some reason they like it.
- 5:10I don't know if it's because it's shiny and new.
- 5:13I don't know, it's in the same location.
- 5:14I don't know. But they're all running over
- 5:17there and using it, being present and recognizing things.
- 5:21That's the key. On my way out here this morning,
- 5:24I saw 11 Cardinals at the feeder already and I was like, wow,
- 5:29isn't that crazy? Like you can see and feel and
- 5:32hear it all. So what can you see, hear, and
- 5:35feel in your morning to get you super present?
- 5:38So you go into your world feeling really jazzed about it.
- 5:42All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:44see you tomorrow. Bye.
