- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Conversations Live. I'm your host,
- 0:02Speaker 1: Cyrus Webb. Glad you all could join us once again.
- 0:04Speaker 1: For our radio audience tuning in at WYED 94.1 FM
- 0:08Speaker 1: and WYEDonline.com, we're glad that you all can be with us.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Also showing us online worldwide via our podcast at iHeartRadio
- 0:15Speaker 1: and Amazon Music. We're glad you all could be with
- 0:17Speaker 1: us as well. But I'll have to tell you, it
- 0:19Speaker 1: is that time of year, and this is a time
- 0:21Speaker 1: that many people are looking for reasons to raise a glass,
- 0:25Speaker 1: but not everyone wants the same thing in theirs. As
- 0:28Speaker 1: Americans become more intentional about when, where, and how they drink,
- 0:32Speaker 1: many aren't just asking what's on the menu. They're asking
- 0:35Speaker 1: for options. Some want a classic cocktail. Some want something lighter.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Others want no alcohol at all. And the great news
- 0:42Speaker 1: is you can be able to accommodate everyone. We're very
- 0:44Speaker 1: excited about our next guest. Award-winning mixologist L.P. O'Brien is
- 0:48Speaker 1: joining us. She's going to share with you guys how
- 0:50Speaker 1: you can be able to make things a little bit
- 0:52Speaker 1: different this year. L.P., thank you so much for the time.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I really appreciate it.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm so excited to be here. Thanks for having me.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, this is an exciting time. Not that we really
- 0:59Speaker 1: need a reason to drink. sometimes, LP, but hey, we're
- 1:05Speaker 1: going to take the holiday season and say that's what
- 1:07Speaker 1: we're talking about. So, you know, hosting is going to
- 1:10Speaker 1: be one of the big things that's going on right now, LP.
- 1:13Speaker 1: What's your secret for keeping every guest happy?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Listen, there's always a time for everything, right? But I
- 1:20Speaker 2: love the holidays and the second Halloween is gone, I'm
- 1:23Speaker 2: ready to immerse myself. So we're going to do pumpkin
- 1:26Speaker 2: spice espresso martinis. We're going to talk about The fact
- 1:29Speaker 2: that I think it's important that we are making sure
- 1:33Speaker 2: that what we offer is accommodating what the guest actually wants,
- 1:36Speaker 2: first of all. But secondly, that we can be very
- 1:39Speaker 2: modular in our approach, right? Just as you said earlier,
- 1:42Speaker 2: not everyone actually wants a drink that contains alcohol. So
- 1:45Speaker 2: making that base something that's without alcohol that guests can
- 1:50Speaker 2: add something to.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Love that. And pumpkin spice, of course, being one of
- 1:54Speaker 1: those things that most people enjoy as well. Now, I heard...
- 1:57Speaker 1: that you're able to take a cocktail LP and to
- 2:00Speaker 1: prepare it three different ways. Can you kind of walk
- 2:02Speaker 1: us through that?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So we're going to talk about, you know, if
- 2:05Speaker 2: you are someone who wants to be shaken at your party,
- 2:08Speaker 2: this is kind of for you. And then we'll talk
- 2:10Speaker 2: about the alternative, which is a beverage station. But for
- 2:14Speaker 2: the person who really loves the theatrics of making drinks,
- 2:17Speaker 2: we're going to start with a standard serving size, which
- 2:20Speaker 2: is about an ounce and a half of vodka or rum,
- 2:23Speaker 2: an ounce of coffee concentrate, and then The sweetener is
- 2:26Speaker 2: a full ounce, but we're going to break it up
- 2:29Speaker 2: into a couple of different things. Half ounce pumpkin spice
- 2:31Speaker 2: and half ounce of espresso syrup or a simple syrup.
- 2:36Speaker 2: We'll shake that up and put that into something like
- 2:38Speaker 2: a rocks glass with ice and then garnish it with
- 2:41Speaker 2: a beautiful fall flower. And we segue into our beverage
- 2:45Speaker 2: that has a lower amount of alcohol, about an ounce
- 2:48Speaker 2: of rum or vodka. And then we're going to add
- 2:52Speaker 2: an ounce of espresso concentrate. And again, with that sweetener,
- 2:55Speaker 2: if you're someone who loves more coffee, maybe isn't a
- 2:58Speaker 2: pumpkin spice fan, you can change the ratios. And then
- 3:02Speaker 2: for this, we'll put it in a coupe, a nice
- 3:04Speaker 2: chilled coupe that comes out of your freezer. You'll strain
- 3:06Speaker 2: that beverage, maybe add a little grated dark chocolate, and
- 3:10Speaker 2: there's never too much dark chocolate with the classic three
- 3:13Speaker 2: espresso beans on top. And then for our final drink,
- 3:17Speaker 2: we're going to do no alcohol. Now, this is my
- 3:20Speaker 2: favorite personally. If you just take an ounce and a
- 3:23Speaker 2: half of that espresso concentrate and about an ounce of syrup,
- 3:26Speaker 2: shake it up, and put it into a rocks glass,
- 3:28Speaker 2: you can garnish with grated chocolate and a seasonal flower.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So there's versatility in your offering.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I love that. You know, all jokes aside, at LP,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm a lightweight myself, so typically if I am out mixing,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I do the non-alcoholic versions for myself. But that brings
- 3:44Speaker 1: up an interesting question. What's a common misconception about low
- 3:47Speaker 1: and no alcohol cocktails?
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think that folks assume that you are compromising flavor,
- 3:53Speaker 2: but also there's so much versatility in presentation. Like we
- 3:56Speaker 2: just talked about three very different drinks, and they all
- 3:58Speaker 2: look gorgeous. Right.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I love that. LP, you really came through for us,
- 4:03Speaker 1: giving our audience something they can look forward to, not
- 4:05Speaker 1: only for the holiday season, but beyond. Again, everyone, award-winning
- 4:08Speaker 1: mixologist LP O'Brien has been our guest. LP, where can
- 4:11Speaker 1: our audience go for more information?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yes, please check us out at cocktailsyourway.com, and we have
- 4:15Speaker 2: some tips and tricks on how to accommodate your guests
- 4:18Speaker 2: this holiday season.
- 4:19Speaker 1: All right, and we'll link that up as well. LP,
- 4:21Speaker 1: thank you again for stopping by. I really appreciate it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Looking forward to speaking with you again.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I really appreciate the laugh this morning. Thank you
- 4:26Speaker 2: so much.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You're more than welcome. And we thank your audience for
- 4:29Speaker 1: tuning in to another great segment of Conversations Live. Until
