- 1:03Speaker 3: Ladies and gentlemen, I have your attention. Please, the show
- 1:12Speaker 3: stops in my page seven six, five, four three two.
- 1:30Speaker 4: One go, good evening, and welcome to Believe in the
- 1:46Speaker 4: Journey pot.
- 1:54Speaker 2: My guest tonight is mister Zachary Williams Matthews, and he
- 1:58Speaker 2: has a new book out that we're gonna talk about.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But you know, we can't do anything before we go
- 2:05Speaker 2: to God in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 2:07Speaker 2: bringing us here as you do agent every night. Thank
- 2:10Speaker 2: you for my guests tonight, because the topic that we're
- 2:13Speaker 2: gonna be talking about with this book is definitely one
- 2:16Speaker 2: that I think we all can relate to being of
- 2:20Speaker 2: black and brown persuasion. It is definitely one of those
- 2:26Speaker 2: topics that you do not want to miss. But God,
- 2:29Speaker 2: I thank you for everything that you do. Let the
- 2:31Speaker 2: worst of our mouths fall upon the ears that need
- 2:34Speaker 2: to hear without further ado.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Thank you, God.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I thank you so much in person of your purchase
- 2:39Speaker 2: and Holy name Jesus. I pray now with mister Zachary. Listen,
- 2:46Speaker 2: introduce yourself. Just do that first, and there we go
- 2:49Speaker 2: by talking about this because we got to talk about
- 2:56Speaker 2: this book.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Zachary Williams.
- 3:01Speaker 6: I am twenty years old, I'm from the Lovely City
- 3:03Speaker 6: g gellup from Chaunson, South Carolina, and I'm rid of
- 3:08Speaker 6: everything everything in between, man down to a poetry donta
- 3:12Speaker 6: a writer down to a singer.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Like I'm I'm getting my doctor's agree, so.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Pretty much everything you know, boy, especially I'm here alive
- 3:24Speaker 6: in the Holly blessing favor.
- 3:26Speaker 5: So yeah, a little bit about me.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's that's all you're gonna say. Now, this a whole
- 3:35Speaker 2: lot more you can say, but we just gonna get
- 3:38Speaker 2: into the top of this book. Now. You titled this
- 3:41Speaker 2: book negroes black before he was anything else.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Yes, now listen. When I saw that title, I'm like, oh, okay, okay.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I know I have said plenty of times when somebody
- 3:57Speaker 2: has tried to tell me what to do, like they
- 4:00Speaker 2: come up and say, well I need you to do this,
- 4:02Speaker 2: I don't need to do nothing but stay black and die.
- 4:04Speaker 4: That is usually my answer. So when I saw that,
- 4:08Speaker 4: I said, yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 2: We got to talk about this. We definitely got to
- 4:11Speaker 2: talk about this. So what made you title the book that?
- 4:16Speaker 6: Oh gosh, that is a good question because a lot
- 4:20Speaker 6: of people asking me a question I really didn't want
- 4:22Speaker 6: to get the answer to. But since we were doing
- 4:25Speaker 6: an interview about this book, so I give you a
- 4:27Speaker 6: solution why I chosen title. So, the reason why I
- 4:33Speaker 6: chose was tight or Negro before black for anything? Because
- 4:36Speaker 6: number one, that thing, the word negro was so negative
- 4:39Speaker 6: to me in like nineteen fifty to nineteen sixty, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 6: especially when you were in the South, right and black people,
- 4:49Speaker 6: you know anything because you are a humor first.
- 4:52Speaker 5: You know, as a child, you don't know your skin complexion.
- 4:56Speaker 6: As a baby, you know, you start learning about your
- 5:00Speaker 6: such theis the where will you fit the cook to
- 5:02Speaker 6: wear it?
- 5:03Speaker 5: But this in this title, I have wanted to shake
- 5:07Speaker 5: out the room.
- 5:08Speaker 6: I wanted people to start conversations sow.
- 5:12Speaker 5: So somebody asked me.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Like, like, are you.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Like why not we have as brack people and toasted
- 5:25Speaker 5: our own way in a good way.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Yeah, Like, it's great conversation people who look at and
- 5:34Speaker 6: then the create conversation.
- 5:36Speaker 5: You start to learn what they don't know so we
- 5:40Speaker 5: can teach them. So why not for anything else?
- 5:46Speaker 4: Exactly exactly.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I agree with that one hundred percent simply because that's
- 5:52Speaker 2: that's who you are, that's your DNA, that is who
- 5:55Speaker 2: you have been created to be. There's nothing about that
- 5:59Speaker 2: that you can go and alter or changed at all. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 2: there's a little skinned lightning products and everything, but it
- 6:05Speaker 2: still does not change the DNA of who you are.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So having that, oh my god, just to name a
- 6:14Speaker 2: book like that, that is definitely a conversation starter from
- 6:18Speaker 2: the beginning because people are going to give you that
- 6:21Speaker 2: side of and be like, I can't believe he did that,
- 6:24Speaker 2: But I believe he did that.
- 6:27Speaker 5: The amount of push.
- 6:29Speaker 6: Back on the title I got from my colleagues and
- 6:34Speaker 6: people who look like like it was like, oh, you
- 6:36Speaker 6: should have said that the book is not gonna sell.
- 6:39Speaker 6: That's give you a bad reputation. Sometimes you have to
- 6:42Speaker 6: learn how to keep and if you don't, who's going
- 6:47Speaker 6: to do it for you? And I know there's a
- 6:50Speaker 6: number of books out there that have in this type
- 6:54Speaker 6: of way, like they said they take and it was
- 6:58Speaker 6: successful with it, So why should I take a step
- 7:02Speaker 6: and be scared? No, I want something that represent me.
- 7:07Speaker 6: I want to write something that represent that who handle
- 7:11Speaker 6: way before me?
- 7:12Speaker 5: To tell their story and fruiture on. I don't care
- 7:17Speaker 5: if it modering, I don't care.
- 7:19Speaker 6: I's back then, I don't care if it Like any
- 7:23Speaker 6: part of history you go to, I don't care.
- 7:27Speaker 5: You have to take a leap of faith, and I
- 7:31Speaker 5: can go on and on and on and I think
- 7:34Speaker 5: this will Oh, there we go.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yeah, they want to spaces and keep us in one.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Right, good go ahead? Uh No, Like like you said,
- 7:56Speaker 5: they want to live us our spaces and being one spot.
- 7:59Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, you you have like you you have
- 8:02Speaker 6: to break the barrier, like you have to break the
- 8:05Speaker 6: uncomfortable space. If not, you're gonna be stuck in a
- 8:09Speaker 6: place like like, God will give you chances after chances
- 8:16Speaker 6: for you to take risks. You have to be able
- 8:19Speaker 6: to take those chances, and if you don't, you are
- 8:23Speaker 6: going to miss a blessing. So that's why I was like,
- 8:28Speaker 6: told and just name the tidle Nigger for anything else.
- 8:37Speaker 5: So that's what I.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Broke the ice in so many ways and so many
- 8:44Speaker 4: levels when you name.
- 8:45Speaker 2: That book and you stood on it's not easy for
- 8:52Speaker 2: our person to basically let go of the the chain
- 9:00Speaker 2: that people want to hold them to and confine them to,
- 9:03Speaker 2: so I know you had a lot of pushback because
- 9:07Speaker 2: you know, even people of our own culture, they don't.
- 9:12Speaker 4: They say, no, you're gonna push too many buttons. That's
- 9:14Speaker 4: not safe for you to do. You know, I know
- 9:17Speaker 4: you heard that so many times.
- 9:19Speaker 5: Listen, listen. I love taking risk man.
- 9:23Speaker 6: I don't care a bad man. I love taking risks
- 9:26Speaker 6: cause who doesn't You have to be able to be
- 9:32Speaker 6: uncle and.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Have to be any.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Any have you got to have.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I don't know, right, And if God gave it to you,
- 9:51Speaker 4: you needed.
- 9:52Speaker 3: To do it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Because God gives you the vision, He's gonna provide the
- 9:57Speaker 2: provisions for you to see it through.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And had you just slept on it and be like, God,
- 10:02Speaker 4: that's a little bit too risky. Who are you to
- 10:05Speaker 4: tell God that's too risky? Number one?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Number two, if he gave it to you, he intended
- 10:11Speaker 2: for you to birth it to make sure that it
- 10:14Speaker 2: got out to the people that needed to hear it.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And you holding on to something that he gave you
- 10:19Speaker 2: would not be fair for the readers who are going
- 10:22Speaker 2: to read this book. Because I can't wait till June nineteenth.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I'm ready, you know, I know that's the release day.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I am ready to get my copy so that I
- 10:32Speaker 2: could see well all you put in there. And I
- 10:34Speaker 2: don't want you to tell too much about the book,
- 10:36Speaker 2: but I do want you to give us a little
- 10:38Speaker 2: bit about this book.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Let let's see. So what's start off with? Something? So indeed,
- 10:49Speaker 5: So this character.
- 10:50Speaker 6: Named Samuel, right, Okay, So Samuel we grew up in Chicagously.
- 10:59Speaker 5: His family was how can I put it too much out?
- 11:04Speaker 5: His Ami wanted our better life.
- 11:07Speaker 6: For him, him and his older sister, so they moved
- 11:10Speaker 6: to Mister and Samuel just kind of all and culture
- 11:16Speaker 6: culture shock changed.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Okay. He met his best friend Isaiah.
- 11:22Speaker 6: And they started going down yo when a southern white
- 11:27Speaker 6: boy who died and they got blamed for it.
- 11:32Speaker 5: So okay, okay, So you go through the whole, the whole.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Trials and tribulations, the pushback for the community a k game.
- 11:42Speaker 6: And this really happened after matel like cases like this
- 11:50Speaker 6: is right after in this case up in this small town.
- 11:55Speaker 6: So okay, I just like this book will literally have
- 12:01Speaker 6: you shop twist turns like what like it will give
- 12:08Speaker 6: you so much in the support of his the community
- 12:13Speaker 6: inside this book, it's so outful, you know, I tell
- 12:18Speaker 6: people you know, this might be a fictional story, but
- 12:21Speaker 6: it's a real life event. And those people who are
- 12:25Speaker 6: living nine these days, you have to understand like having
- 12:34Speaker 6: all white jewelryes no no black person, it's all white jewelry,
- 12:40Speaker 6: and and you the only one person, only one black person,
- 12:44Speaker 6: like you can't get too much.
- 12:46Speaker 5: I'm trying not to get too much.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Listen. Okay, well listen, we're gonna We're gonna shift the
- 12:52Speaker 4: conversation a.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Little bit along those lines of being in a space
- 12:56Speaker 2: where you're the only person of color. And I know
- 13:00Speaker 2: I'm in spaces where I've been the only person of
- 13:03Speaker 2: color in my jobs now, my very first management job,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I was in retail, and me being in retail for
- 13:12Speaker 2: the longest, it was like we had a situation where
- 13:16Speaker 2: like my manager he came to me and I wasn't
- 13:20Speaker 2: paying it any attention at all because it didn't matter.
- 13:22Speaker 4: I was able to do my job.
- 13:24Speaker 2: But he came to me one night we were closing
- 13:26Speaker 2: and he was like, I want you to know that
- 13:30Speaker 2: I'm trying to hire more people that look like you.
- 13:33Speaker 2: My boss was white, and so I was like, he said,
- 13:38Speaker 2: but it's just not working out that way, And I
- 13:41Speaker 2: said you know, I understand, I said, but you don't
- 13:43Speaker 2: have to, you know, single me out, because I am
- 13:47Speaker 2: the only one here to say that you're trying, I said,
- 13:51Speaker 2: I see, you're not prejudiced, you're not racist, you're not
- 13:56Speaker 2: any of those things. Because number one, you gave me
- 13:59Speaker 2: a chance. I was nineteen years old. I knew nothing
- 14:02Speaker 2: of management. I knew nothing of anything, I said, And
- 14:06Speaker 2: you took a chance.
- 14:06Speaker 4: On me, you know, to do this, I said.
- 14:10Speaker 2: So he was like, yeah, but I just feel bad
- 14:13Speaker 2: and you're by yourself, and I know you like to
- 14:16Speaker 2: you know, you would want some company of somebody who
- 14:20Speaker 2: could sit and relate to you.
- 14:22Speaker 4: I said, Honey, I relate to anybody who relates to me.
- 14:24Speaker 2: It doesn't have nothing to do with their skin coat,
- 14:27Speaker 2: I said, Cause I'm gonna talk to anybody if they're
- 14:29Speaker 2: willing to talk to me. Have a problisation, I said,
- 14:32Speaker 2: But you do what you do. If you get some
- 14:35Speaker 2: in here, they look like me, great. If you don't,
- 14:37Speaker 2: oh well, Now I have been on the other end
- 14:40Speaker 2: of that where it's like you need to smile more,
- 14:47Speaker 2: you need to do this, and you need to do that.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And that's the part of me where it's like, I
- 14:52Speaker 2: don't need to do anything but stay black and die
- 14:55Speaker 2: because what you're asking of me is to change who
- 14:57Speaker 2: I am.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I don't have to smile because once you are uncomfortable.
- 15:02Speaker 2: If I want to sit at my desk and do
- 15:04Speaker 2: my work as long as the agenda for the day
- 15:08Speaker 2: and my assignments are complete.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Why do I have to smile? Like that means nothing
- 15:15Speaker 4: to me.
- 15:15Speaker 2: So I'm not coming over there balling you, telling you
- 15:18Speaker 2: you need to tone it down because you too happy,
- 15:20Speaker 2: go lucky. I'm not doing it.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Out and today that's okay, it's not that on you.
- 15:27Speaker 4: It's just my face.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I think you said. I think you said it the
- 15:32Speaker 5: best way. You said. I feel bad for you, right
- 15:35Speaker 5: when when people of different racists that, I'm like, what
- 15:39Speaker 5: do you mean you feel bad for me? Because I
- 15:42Speaker 5: don't need that.
- 15:43Speaker 6: I just don't understand still today that I need people
- 15:47Speaker 6: to look like me to relate. You can't relate to
- 15:50Speaker 6: anybody who come in your life like we forget that
- 15:55Speaker 6: you know, we're a human being.
- 15:56Speaker 5: First.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Secondly, yeah, yeah, okay, you might not look like me,
- 16:02Speaker 6: but you might have certain things in comment. I'm like,
- 16:05Speaker 6: I have I have been in rooms where I was
- 16:09Speaker 6: the only black person. And you know, people feel like
- 16:14Speaker 6: you sure you good? They check up on you and
- 16:16Speaker 6: be like you shure you're good. You need anything, miss ma'am,
- 16:18Speaker 6: I'm good.
- 16:20Speaker 5: This ma'am. I am gigging laughing with you. Right now.
- 16:23Speaker 6: We are having a conversation like stop, I hate with you,
- 16:27Speaker 6: like stop my skin, don't defind me, my skin, don't
- 16:31Speaker 6: to find me? And then you and then when you
- 16:34Speaker 6: then when you bring it up, you make it awkward.
- 16:37Speaker 5: You're mean. Now you're making it feel like we're men.
- 16:42Speaker 5: What made you thought that? I feel lonely? And I'm like,
- 16:46Speaker 5: it's okay, I don't sometimes Now you understand when we back,
- 16:53Speaker 5: when we all get together, when we.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Like we.
- 16:59Speaker 5: Especially in the room, we look for like all people.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Right right, we're gonna make a we want to get
- 17:09Speaker 2: to each other. We ain't gotta know you at.
- 17:12Speaker 4: All, but we're gonna have a conversation together, like how
- 17:16Speaker 4: long you've been here? How you know who you know?
- 17:19Speaker 3: You know?
- 17:20Speaker 2: I mean, because I am that person. I'm gonna sit there,
- 17:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Those questions because it's like, okay, I see you, you
- 17:29Speaker 4: see me. What we gonna talk about? Because we might
- 17:32Speaker 4: get here, just scanning the room talking about people.
- 17:35Speaker 2: At the same time. But you know, we were gonna
- 17:39Speaker 2: get to know each other and we gonna mingle amongst
- 17:43Speaker 2: each other.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I just love us how we just like I don't
- 17:48Speaker 5: know each other from paint. We are here, I see you,
- 17:54Speaker 5: I'm gonna make I'm gonna make my rounds to.
- 17:57Speaker 6: You, and we we just sit there with just block
- 18:00Speaker 6: on each other. And the way how we would tect
- 18:03Speaker 6: ourselves with each other in our culture, you know. And
- 18:08Speaker 6: and the way how other people don't look like us
- 18:11Speaker 6: don't understand, Like if I don't have to know that person,
- 18:14Speaker 6: that's fam that's family, my.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Cousin, that's my cousin.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Right, don't worry about that business. You're asking too many people.
- 18:34Speaker 2: That's how you need to because we are locked in
- 18:40Speaker 2: for life, you know, And that's how it is.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And so it's like you learn to adjust to the
- 18:49Speaker 4: spaces that you're in with the people that are there.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And one thing that I've learned over the years, in
- 18:55Speaker 2: those spaces where you've been the only one, God placed
- 18:59Speaker 2: you in that space for a reason, and so you
- 19:02Speaker 2: should never belittle yourself or make yourself invisible just to
- 19:07Speaker 2: be accepted, because if it was not for God, you
- 19:10Speaker 2: would not have been able to be in that space
- 19:12Speaker 2: in the first place, because He's gonna order your steps
- 19:15Speaker 2: and he's gonna place you in the spaces that you're
- 19:17Speaker 2: supposed to be in at the exact moment. So I've
- 19:21Speaker 2: had to learn that not to shrink myself down in
- 19:24Speaker 2: those spaces because that's what they wanted me to do.
- 19:27Speaker 2: And I've had people tell me, you know that I'm difficult.
- 19:31Speaker 4: To deal with. Like currently where I work, I had.
- 19:36Speaker 2: One of the physicians come and tell me she was
- 19:39Speaker 2: switching over from working with another provider to being.
- 19:43Speaker 4: On the ship that I was on, And so she
- 19:47Speaker 4: came up to me.
- 19:48Speaker 2: This was probably after working with me for about two
- 19:51Speaker 2: months or so, and she came up to me and
- 19:53Speaker 2: she was like, you know, I was told not to
- 19:58Speaker 2: like you.
- 19:59Speaker 4: And I was like, I'm sure you were.
- 20:02Speaker 2: And I said, and I'm sure they told you not
- 20:04Speaker 2: to like me because they think that I'm mean. And
- 20:08Speaker 2: she was like, yep, I said, And what are your
- 20:12Speaker 2: thoughts after you have gotten to know me for yourself?
- 20:15Speaker 4: She was like, well, you're not mean like they say.
- 20:18Speaker 4: You're just very direct and.
- 20:20Speaker 2: To the point, and when things aren't going the way
- 20:22Speaker 2: that they're supposed to in the office for the patients,
- 20:25Speaker 2: you're gonna say something about it, I said, exactly. I said,
- 20:28Speaker 2: people who do not like correction are always gonna think
- 20:31Speaker 2: that the person who is correcting them is in the
- 20:34Speaker 2: wrong and that they're mean.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I said, I'm not that. I said, if we have patience,
- 20:39Speaker 4: we open at eight o'clock.
- 20:41Speaker 2: If we have patients and their charts are up, you
- 20:44Speaker 2: guys are still sitting in the back talking.
- 20:46Speaker 4: It's eight thirty.
- 20:48Speaker 2: It's time for y'all to stop back there talking and
- 20:51Speaker 2: get to these patents because our.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Obligation is to help them. It around talk.
- 20:58Speaker 2: So if you can walk into you at the same time,
- 21:01Speaker 2: which means if you can't multitask, you're.
- 21:03Speaker 4: In the wrong space.
- 21:05Speaker 2: So they would get mad at me for telling them
- 21:07Speaker 2: to do that, and so I'm like, well, once you've
- 21:11Speaker 2: gotten to know me for yourself, what is your opinion
- 21:13Speaker 2: of me? Now? She was like, well, I love you
- 21:16Speaker 2: because I love how you handle the things at the
- 21:19Speaker 2: front desk. If somebody's not being respectful to the staff,
- 21:23Speaker 2: you're gonna step in and take care of that the
- 21:26Speaker 2: way that it's supposed to.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Without being rude or disrespectful.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I said, that's what I'm supposed to do, I said,
- 21:32Speaker 2: But like I said, those who don't like correction will
- 21:35Speaker 2: always see it the other way.
- 21:37Speaker 6: You know what, and you know what that you sometimes
- 21:40Speaker 6: they call us the problem, like you know, yeah, it's
- 21:48Speaker 6: the pain to you know, sit back and relax sometime
- 21:51Speaker 6: when you're when you have not all your work.
- 21:54Speaker 5: So at my job, right, and so I'm.
- 21:59Speaker 6: A constance listen, and I work for a water company,
- 22:02Speaker 6: so I do more as like the proceeds like cash wise,
- 22:07Speaker 6: credit card, your cars coming in.
- 22:10Speaker 5: So when I'm like so, when I finish my work,
- 22:13Speaker 5: I'll be chilling.
- 22:14Speaker 6: But the main person, you know, you always have that
- 22:17Speaker 6: that person on the job who is your boss. But
- 22:21Speaker 6: technically they are not your boss. Baby, we get paid
- 22:25Speaker 6: way be on the same level like you. But what
- 22:29Speaker 6: you're telling the boss, oh he ain't doing this or
- 22:32Speaker 6: she ain't doing it, at the same.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Time, you're not doing it, like exactly, make it make
- 22:39Speaker 4: sense to make.
- 22:40Speaker 6: You look for you, So to make you look good,
- 22:43Speaker 6: you have to bring enough person down. So like so
- 22:45Speaker 6: a person like me, you you're not gonna bring down.
- 22:47Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I'm a type of person. I'm straight to
- 22:51Speaker 6: the point. I'm I'm I'm very sassy, i am very spoken,
- 22:58Speaker 6: like I'm.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Breaking back by gain.
- 23:01Speaker 6: You are not gonna my life because I don't understand likestions,
- 23:08Speaker 6: Like what.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Makes you think you're better than me? As a matter
- 23:10Speaker 5: of fact, you've been here for ten years. I only
- 23:12Speaker 5: been here for three.
- 23:13Speaker 6: Like, I do more work than you ever did in
- 23:18Speaker 6: your ten years. And I'm like, I'm just using as
- 23:21Speaker 6: a sample and the fact that you two needs to.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Do your job.
- 23:25Speaker 6: And I think I Undertand people have to understand that
- 23:29Speaker 6: it's okay to change. It's okay to the thing, change
- 23:31Speaker 6: around your around companies, it's one better. Sometimes it might
- 23:36Speaker 6: be some time you might bring in somebody you don't like,
- 23:40Speaker 6: but they're here to do a job.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Number one, we are not. I have to understanding like this,
- 23:45Speaker 5: you are here to do, here to make friends. If
- 23:48Speaker 5: you make friends, that is bot pay. That is definite
- 23:52Speaker 5: pay if you get to that point. But you have
- 23:54Speaker 5: to understand you are there for you to.
- 23:57Speaker 6: Do with the job and go home exactly exactly friends going,
- 24:03Speaker 6: that's that's cool. We get that sometimes we need that
- 24:06Speaker 6: sometimes to get through other people. People like people I just.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Don't understand when people say they don't like people, but
- 24:17Speaker 5: you work in customer.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Service, Okay, let me, let me I'm not a people person.
- 24:27Speaker 4: I'm really not.
- 24:29Speaker 2: However, I can get along with anybody, and I love
- 24:35Speaker 2: working with older people and children.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But it's like people that are.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Around my age sometimes and that little I don't know
- 24:47Speaker 2: if it's the millennials or whatever it is, some of
- 24:50Speaker 2: them they tear my nerves up in the sense of
- 24:53Speaker 2: they think they know everything, and when you're trying to
- 24:56Speaker 2: tell them something, they don't listen.
- 24:59Speaker 4: So it's like it tears my nerves.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Up, you know, because I'm trying to give you the
- 25:08Speaker 2: advice and the help that you need and you still
- 25:11Speaker 2: gonna say that.
- 25:12Speaker 6: You know.
- 25:13Speaker 4: That's like me telling you, Okay, don't go that way
- 25:15Speaker 4: because it's a wall right there, and I know what
- 25:17Speaker 4: I know.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Still keep going, and then you hit the wall, and
- 25:21Speaker 2: then you turning around and looking at me like I
- 25:23Speaker 2: didn't tell you it was a wall right there, Like
- 25:26Speaker 2: but you knew, right you, You know it was a
- 25:30Speaker 2: wall because I told you, But you still gonna go
- 25:32Speaker 2: and then turn around and get mad at me.
- 25:34Speaker 4: See That's what I mean when I don't. I don't
- 25:37Speaker 4: like people like that, that's what it is.
- 25:39Speaker 5: So I am more like that. So I don't like
- 25:41Speaker 5: so I don't like elderly people, right. I love when
- 25:45Speaker 5: they respect.
- 25:49Speaker 6: A minute like, you know what, because I understand, you know,
- 25:53Speaker 6: you gotta give this stuff to your ether.
- 25:55Speaker 5: But a minute you call me up mind now, and
- 25:58Speaker 5: a minute you you you disrespect me.
- 26:01Speaker 6: This, ma'am, you got to go to because you're not
- 26:04Speaker 6: gonna disrespect me because I work in a place where.
- 26:10Speaker 5: How cass I work in a rich area mm hmm.
- 26:17Speaker 5: And and I got people who do not look like me.
- 26:21Speaker 4: M m.
- 26:26Speaker 5: They know it all.
- 26:28Speaker 6: Oh, because I'm young, I was respect you. You can
- 26:31Speaker 6: call me out my name, you can, you can, you
- 26:34Speaker 6: can stream, you can curse that knee. You are brocking
- 26:36Speaker 6: up the wrong tree.
- 26:38Speaker 5: And I think I think that is.
- 26:41Speaker 2: The older generation, like my parents type generation that think
- 26:46Speaker 2: that way, because I have an uncle who is like that.
- 26:50Speaker 2: He feels like just because he's older, that we are
- 26:53Speaker 2: supposed to simply respect him what he says and what
- 26:57Speaker 2: he does and how he talks to you.
- 26:59Speaker 4: And I'm like, sir, that's not how that goes.
- 27:02Speaker 5: You have to.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Give the respect that you're asking for. You can't demand it.
- 27:09Speaker 2: If you say something to someone that they don't like,
- 27:12Speaker 2: you can't get upset when they're telling you that they
- 27:15Speaker 2: don't like what you said, and how you handle the situation, because.
- 27:18Speaker 4: There's a right and the wrong way to handle it.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And he blew up resenting him and my son got
- 27:26Speaker 2: into an argument because he was talking to my son.
- 27:29Speaker 2: My youngest son is twenty two years old, and so
- 27:33Speaker 2: he was asking my son a couple of questions about
- 27:37Speaker 2: some things, and my son told him, you know, he said, well,
- 27:41Speaker 2: first off, because my uncle kept referring to him as
- 27:45Speaker 2: a little boy, and he was like yeah, and so
- 27:49Speaker 2: my son said, he said, well, first off, I'm not
- 27:51Speaker 2: that seven year old kid you met years ago.
- 27:54Speaker 4: He said, I am a grown man.
- 27:56Speaker 2: And if you want to have this conversation and to
- 27:59Speaker 2: continue this conversation, we're gonna respect each other.
- 28:02Speaker 4: And so my uncle just kept.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Trying to tell him that he was a little boy
- 28:07Speaker 2: and that he needed to respect him, and so my
- 28:09Speaker 2: son said, he said, now, listen, I have tried to
- 28:12Speaker 2: be respectful to you, but you keep trying to belittle
- 28:15Speaker 2: me and down talk to me, he said, And I'm
- 28:18Speaker 2: not gonna let you do that, he said. When you
- 28:20Speaker 2: met me, I was seven years old and I was respectful.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Then he said, and I'm trying to be respectful now,
- 28:25Speaker 2: but you're not allowing me to do that.
- 28:27Speaker 4: You want me to.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Respect what you're saying, but you're talking to me as
- 28:31Speaker 2: if I don't have the right to correct you and
- 28:33Speaker 2: how you're speaking to me.
- 28:35Speaker 4: And so my uncle ended up getting mad at hanging up.
- 28:38Speaker 2: The phone on my son, and then he called me
- 28:41Speaker 2: back and said that I was being disrespectful because I
- 28:45Speaker 2: allowed my son to talk to him in that manner.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I said, no, I allowed my son to defend himself
- 28:51Speaker 2: against an adult who did not know how to communicate effectively.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I said, my children have the right to speak to
- 28:57Speaker 2: someone and take up for themselves. They feel like the
- 29:01Speaker 2: person is speaking to them in a tone or in
- 29:03Speaker 2: a manner which they don't feel is being respectful. I said,
- 29:06Speaker 2: so you want to say that, since you're sixty something
- 29:10Speaker 2: years old, that he simply has to respect you because
- 29:13Speaker 2: of your age, but you're not being respectful to him.
- 29:16Speaker 2: And he was trying very well, and my son came
- 29:19Speaker 2: to me and apologized. He was like, Mom, sorry, I wasn't.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Trying to go there. Son, you could with me. Honey,
- 29:25Speaker 4: you ain't got to apologize because you did what you
- 29:28Speaker 4: were supposed to do.
- 29:30Speaker 6: And I think for that and like, I totally totally
- 29:33Speaker 6: understand him. So for me, my pet peet is, do
- 29:37Speaker 6: not ever in your life call me a little boy.
- 29:41Speaker 5: I am twenty I am twenty eight years old. I
- 29:44Speaker 5: put my own fis. I could have worked. He got
- 29:47Speaker 5: an awn place.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Do not?
- 29:49Speaker 5: Oh my god, that is that irks my nerve? Oh
- 29:52Speaker 5: or this is a good little boy one that talks
- 29:55Speaker 5: to you. Yeah, like so mom right, So my mom
- 30:01Speaker 5: is like, so I'm gonna like so take me and
- 30:04Speaker 5: a girlfriend, Like, I'm my mom right. I have.
- 30:09Speaker 6: Attitude and do I have a bad attitude? Okay, it's
- 30:13Speaker 6: usually gona frush me to the point. But the thing is,
- 30:16Speaker 6: I remain respect. Like if I respect you, you should
- 30:19Speaker 6: respect me. I don't care what is you like for me?
- 30:23Speaker 6: Like I feel like you should respect anybody who they are.
- 30:29Speaker 6: I don't care you years old, I don't care you
- 30:32Speaker 6: sick to seven years old. You would not disrespect me.
- 30:35Speaker 6: You would not disrespect anybody. You don't want to be
- 30:38Speaker 6: dispect me. You just don't want to be disrespect at
- 30:41Speaker 6: the same time, if you don't know, they say that, yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 6: communication works both ways, like if you don't know, like okay,
- 30:55Speaker 6: so I take this, I take this from back a
- 30:57Speaker 6: days like back then. They don't know how to communicate
- 31:02Speaker 6: as now these days, like they find hard ways words
- 31:06Speaker 6: when they are they don't like when they're wrong.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Because they be combatis like you know you wrong, you
- 31:13Speaker 5: you you you, you know you wrong.
- 31:15Speaker 6: You just don't miss it now in hand because now
- 31:20Speaker 6: two kids could be disrespectful, now kids could be misunderstanding.
- 31:25Speaker 6: Kids don't know how to communicate the same ways as adults, dude,
- 31:31Speaker 6: And sometimes when you get kids, you have to teach
- 31:35Speaker 6: them the way how to communicate because this word, right
- 31:40Speaker 6: the world we live in right now is so so so,
- 31:45Speaker 6: so so so fat.
- 31:47Speaker 5: It is so very sensitive and we are mindful of
- 31:53Speaker 5: what we say that these days, because you never know,
- 31:56Speaker 5: you might say something to the wrong person and run.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yeah, because people are definitely sensitive when it comes to
- 32:10Speaker 2: certain things. But that's because they have not been talked
- 32:15Speaker 2: to about how to regulate their emotions. Number one, how
- 32:19Speaker 2: to regulate their feelings, how to communicate it effectively so
- 32:24Speaker 2: that they can get their point across without blowing up, and.
- 32:31Speaker 4: It's hard and so when they most of these.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Like most of these young teenagers, are young adults, even
- 32:40Speaker 2: older adults too, because some that are my age still
- 32:44Speaker 2: don't know how to regulate their emotions and talk to
- 32:47Speaker 2: people because they're quickly. They're quick to be offended but
- 32:50Speaker 2: don't want to be corrected, and that's the problem. And
- 32:54Speaker 2: it's like if someone can't correct you or let you
- 32:59Speaker 2: know that there's a better way to get your point
- 33:02Speaker 2: across without being offended so quickly, because and I know
- 33:08Speaker 2: ton of voice has a lot to play with that
- 33:10Speaker 2: also because sometimes the tone is what throws people off,
- 33:15Speaker 2: because I know my tone sometimes is very harsh, but
- 33:18Speaker 2: it's not intended to be that way, you know. But
- 33:22Speaker 2: if I'm trying to get my point across, I have
- 33:26Speaker 2: to be hardened in a sense because number one, I'm
- 33:31Speaker 2: only four to eight in height, and then I look
- 33:35Speaker 2: like a little kid. Most people don't believe that I'm
- 33:38Speaker 2: forty six years old. So with that, yeah I'm forty six,
- 33:43Speaker 2: I see your face, Yes, I am forty six years old.
- 33:52Speaker 2: So look, so people look at me like I'm a
- 34:00Speaker 2: little kid.
- 34:01Speaker 4: And so it's like, I'm not a little kid, so
- 34:04Speaker 4: my tone sometimes.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Has to be hard so that they'll understand just how
- 34:09Speaker 2: serious I am when I'm speaking.
- 34:12Speaker 4: And so it's it's like I'm not.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Meaning it to be so hard, but I have to
- 34:18Speaker 2: because most of the time they're thinking, oh, well, that's
- 34:21Speaker 2: somebody's little kid, no.
- 34:26Speaker 6: For you. So do you think plays a factor and
- 34:31Speaker 6: like people not expecting you as like as adult as
- 34:35Speaker 6: a grown woman.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because okay, if you come to the event
- 34:42Speaker 2: in July, I am okay, now listen, I'm telling you
- 34:48Speaker 2: how tall I am, which is technically short, so I'm
- 34:53Speaker 2: four age. Don't be surprised because you see my pictures
- 34:57Speaker 2: on Facebook and it looks like I'm a lead five two.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I am not.
- 35:05Speaker 5: I am not.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I just know how to photograph myself to where I
- 35:10Speaker 4: look taller, but I am not.
- 35:12Speaker 2: In spirit.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I am about seven feet tall, so you can't convince
- 35:16Speaker 4: me otherwise. But that is that's just it. So I'm poor.
- 35:26Speaker 5: I'm tall, So for a.
- 35:35Speaker 4: How tall are you? Both My boys are over six
- 35:42Speaker 4: feet tall, they're like six two.
- 35:45Speaker 5: So I come to wait when you get in trouble,
- 35:49Speaker 5: like ho, like, did you.
- 35:53Speaker 4: See I didn't have.
- 35:54Speaker 2: To worry about that because my kids say that I'm crazy,
- 35:58Speaker 2: and so I just give them that look and they like, nah,
- 36:01Speaker 2: we ain't gonna play with you. And see when my son,
- 36:04Speaker 2: my middle son, my middle my oldest son, he was
- 36:08Speaker 2: about fifteen, and he had done something to his younger
- 36:10Speaker 2: brother and he at this time he was taller than me,
- 36:13Speaker 2: but he had did something that he was not supposed
- 36:15Speaker 2: to do and it made me really angry. So I
- 36:19Speaker 2: jerked him up and his feet were off the floor.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And so from that moment on, he said, no, you're crazy.
- 36:27Speaker 2: I realized that you're again in my life. So yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 2: so I've never had that issue with him thinking Okay,
- 36:40Speaker 2: well I'm bigger than you, now I can take you.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Yeah, no, uh huh.
- 36:45Speaker 2: But see, I also grew up with five boys, so
- 36:48Speaker 2: I had no other choice but learned to learn how
- 36:51Speaker 2: to fight because it wasn't no crime.
- 36:54Speaker 6: So you know, oh gosh, so much my mama so
- 37:00Speaker 6: like like so it is it is well nine and nine,
- 37:06Speaker 6: so there are I think there are four girls, five boys,
- 37:11Speaker 6: and my mom she's the baby.
- 37:14Speaker 5: So she she's a tomboy like she she she talks
- 37:17Speaker 5: so mhm, like.
- 37:21Speaker 6: Just the way how you talk. You saw my mama
- 37:24Speaker 6: like you, not like like I'm tall than my mama too.
- 37:28Speaker 5: I would not try. I want to find my moment for.
- 37:32Speaker 7: No smart, He's definitely smart, because it's not good for
- 37:38Speaker 7: your health.
- 37:39Speaker 4: You know it's not.
- 37:44Speaker 6: Yes, ma'am, I know I might talk to that. I
- 37:48Speaker 6: might talk, you know, some stuff to her. You know,
- 37:51Speaker 6: might play with her because we we we we like
- 37:54Speaker 6: to go to the told to read each other.
- 37:57Speaker 5: But I'm gonna get.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I'm not gonna take it too far at all. Look,
- 38:07Speaker 4: I just really one of the comments down there, my
- 38:09Speaker 4: best friends talking about we all fall in line because
- 38:12Speaker 4: she is me. I am not mean, not me. I
- 38:18Speaker 4: do mean what I say.
- 38:20Speaker 2: But everything that I say to anybody that I love
- 38:24Speaker 2: and care about, it comes from the heart.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I'm never gonna say anything to put you in harm's way.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna push you to be the greatest version of
- 38:33Speaker 2: your soul because that's what I see, and that's what
- 38:36Speaker 2: I want for anybody that comes in contact with me.
- 38:39Speaker 4: Because I know what it feels like to be told
- 38:40Speaker 4: that you're not good enough.
- 38:42Speaker 2: So I want people who come in contact with me
- 38:45Speaker 2: to know that you're good enough and if I see that,
- 38:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna push it.
- 38:48Speaker 4: You know, I'm gonna make sure that you feel welcome
- 38:51Speaker 4: around me.
- 38:53Speaker 5: And I'm glad you said that. Coming telling you this
- 38:57Speaker 5: right here, it's going to teach you like this book
- 39:05Speaker 5: will be emotional. This book is going to be tough
- 39:09Speaker 5: to read. This book gonna give you how your life.
- 39:13Speaker 5: It's gonna make you.
- 39:15Speaker 6: Its gonna make you look like your life and be like, huh,
- 39:19Speaker 6: I can relate to this person, this person in this book.
- 39:22Speaker 6: And and the main reason why I wrote this because
- 39:26Speaker 6: I want somebody to, you know, get something of it.
- 39:29Speaker 6: You know, your life means something as the same as mine.
- 39:33Speaker 6: It means something like to go try yourself your goal
- 39:37Speaker 6: and do not give up and trust the process. Telling
- 39:40Speaker 6: you when you trust the process, things, Yeah, things are
- 39:43Speaker 6: gonna get rocky. You know, everybody's trying to back on you.
- 39:47Speaker 6: A lot of people are not gonna like what you do,
- 39:50Speaker 6: and a lot of people are. It's gonna use you
- 39:53Speaker 6: to get what they need to be at. But you know,
- 39:55Speaker 6: I'm gonna tell you that it is okay. It's gonna
- 39:59Speaker 6: be okay.
- 40:00Speaker 5: It's going to be at the end of the day.
- 40:02Speaker 6: I'm telling you you are going to get the best
- 40:05Speaker 6: version of yourself. And when you are self aware of
- 40:09Speaker 6: who you are as a person, nobody cannot take that
- 40:12Speaker 6: away from you.
- 40:13Speaker 5: Nobody.
- 40:15Speaker 6: And in this book, like I said, like Samuel will
- 40:18Speaker 6: go through this whole trial of you know, PTSD being scared,
- 40:25Speaker 6: like having a crime that he didn't submit, Like he
- 40:28Speaker 6: didn't too. He was in the area of doing it.
- 40:32Speaker 6: See I'm giving you a more insight of the story.
- 40:34Speaker 6: He was in the area of doing it, but he.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Didn't do it.
- 40:39Speaker 6: So you have to have faith, especially having your friends
- 40:43Speaker 6: and family who means something to you, not just there
- 40:47Speaker 6: just to be there by who means something to you
- 40:50Speaker 6: and pulling you.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Down in the process. And like I said, I want
- 40:54Speaker 5: people when they get this book.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Yeah, the title is the title, might you know, maybe
- 41:00Speaker 6: you draw you in meet you said against the book.
- 41:04Speaker 6: But once you start reading that first page, ah, the
- 41:10Speaker 6: story and how this is all coming VIC telling you
- 41:12Speaker 6: you are going to fall in love with this book,
- 41:15Speaker 6: you gonna be like, damn, I understand, I can relate,
- 41:21Speaker 6: Like I see what you do.
- 41:23Speaker 2: About this book once I get it, because I'm like, listen,
- 41:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna pay you seventy two right now. And we
- 41:30Speaker 2: got to talk about this because but I hope that
- 41:34Speaker 2: when people do get this book that they will be
- 41:36Speaker 2: able to identify themselves, because I know it's it's hard
- 41:40Speaker 2: for black boys who have so many stripes against them.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Number one, they're born black. Number two, they're male.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Number three, they're fighting themselves with then because they have
- 41:54Speaker 2: been told to not show emotions, to not be emotional
- 41:58Speaker 2: to all their emotions, and so many other things that
- 42:02Speaker 2: they have to deal with that you guys have to
- 42:05Speaker 2: deal with that it's hard enough. And then to want
- 42:10Speaker 2: to be accepted number one within self, number two within family,
- 42:16Speaker 2: within their siblings, within their households, within their jobs, and
- 42:22Speaker 2: all of these things.
- 42:23Speaker 4: It's so much that they're fighting.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Like I wrote a poem called Little Black Child, and
- 42:29Speaker 2: it starts out where I'm talking about the three strikes
- 42:33Speaker 2: that they have against them, the black boy, black girl.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Number one, your number one striketh is that you're born black.
- 42:42Speaker 2: And that's nothing that you could do to change that.
- 42:45Speaker 2: You know, that was how God's called for you to
- 42:48Speaker 2: be on this earth, and that was his choice. And
- 42:51Speaker 2: God doesn't make mistakes and who he created you to
- 42:55Speaker 2: be and he put you and so being able to
- 43:01Speaker 2: accept self first is going to be the major key.
- 43:06Speaker 2: And I hope that the readers when they do get
- 43:08Speaker 2: this book, that they see themselves and can relate in
- 43:12Speaker 2: that aspect of.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Learning how to adjust and not playing themselves.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Small either, but owning who they are and walking with
- 43:23Speaker 2: intention and walking in purpose and own purpose and being
- 43:27Speaker 2: intentional for everything that they do.
- 43:31Speaker 6: And like you said, so each character in this story
- 43:35Speaker 6: and it's no and it's it's so many characters.
- 43:38Speaker 5: In this story during the trials and after the trial.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Like when you read the book, family would definitely want
- 43:46Speaker 6: you because you will definitely learn about the mother, You
- 43:49Speaker 6: learn about the dad, you learn about the big sister who.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Taught him how to read.
- 43:53Speaker 6: It write on how to you know to be a
- 43:57Speaker 6: man run out, but also talks about his friends, the community.
- 44:03Speaker 5: Talks about so many different things in the book. The
- 44:07Speaker 5: fact that when you get a chance to like read
- 44:10Speaker 5: it because he's is different, and that you get after
- 44:16Speaker 5: the trial.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Dealing with them, down to his kids and down to
- 44:24Speaker 6: a little off his grandkids. They don't say too much
- 44:26Speaker 6: about his like his kids and grandkids, but it gives
- 44:29Speaker 6: you an inside out what they put up growing out
- 44:32Speaker 6: with him, like PTSD.
- 44:36Speaker 4: I'm here in a party to this book.
- 44:39Speaker 5: I want to see a part So it won't not
- 44:43Speaker 5: be a part two.
- 44:44Speaker 6: It would be another version of this by a female perspective.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Okay, so it's gonna be like, yeah, it is done.
- 44:57Speaker 5: I'll say that for the first it is done. It
- 44:58Speaker 5: is done. This second part the second book this done. Listene,
- 45:06Speaker 5: you gotta read this one. Now, you gotta read this one.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Tell you what, listen, we're gonna read that. I'm just
- 45:17Speaker 4: listening to drop.
- 45:20Speaker 2: So I'm like, okay, so we got another part to this,
- 45:23Speaker 2: especially when you start to talk about, you know, the
- 45:29Speaker 2: continuation of his family, his his children, his grandchildren and
- 45:35Speaker 2: all of that.
- 45:35Speaker 4: So there has to be more, you know.
- 45:38Speaker 2: From that.
- 45:40Speaker 4: So I'm picking that up.
- 45:44Speaker 6: So give you a little insight. One of his grandkids
- 45:48Speaker 6: goes to the same situation. But how can I give
- 45:54Speaker 6: this away not too much go through the same situation
- 45:58Speaker 6: but as a funeral time, as being you know, molistic bruiser,
- 46:05Speaker 6: and she's being white and is the same kids going
- 46:08Speaker 6: over over how she has the kid, did not keep
- 46:11Speaker 6: the kid. So you get a little bit more into it.
- 46:17Speaker 3: But I just.
- 46:21Speaker 4: That brings me back to a point that I don't
- 46:25Speaker 4: think we discuss enough.
- 46:27Speaker 2: And that is the gender versus that continue because we
- 46:33Speaker 2: stay silent of what happens within our black families. And
- 46:38Speaker 2: that is one thing that if it's not talked about,
- 46:40Speaker 2: it's bound to repeat it. So so we have to
- 46:43Speaker 2: be mindful of the things that we want to bury
- 46:47Speaker 2: versus bringing out to the surface so that it can
- 46:50Speaker 2: actually be dealt with and broken.
- 46:53Speaker 5: So well, I'm glad you said that because you know me,
- 47:00Speaker 5: you that hat.
- 47:00Speaker 6: Listen, So anybody you know, like I have interview this
- 47:04Speaker 6: lovely girl like like twice already, and we talked about
- 47:09Speaker 6: this conversation like online and behind the scenes, we talked
- 47:12Speaker 6: about this conversation. And it's important to have this conversation
- 47:17Speaker 6: because breaking generation curse.
- 47:21Speaker 5: It's so good. I'm telling you it is so good
- 47:25Speaker 5: because I'm a prime example of breaking I'm because growing up,
- 47:33Speaker 5: I was always telling me to be quite, don't say nothing.
- 47:38Speaker 5: Tell you.
- 47:38Speaker 6: Once I start getting older and speaking up like me
- 47:44Speaker 6: at all, talking about you not gonna keep me more
- 47:48Speaker 6: because I'm gonna lie if I told you such and
- 47:51Speaker 6: such did this to me? Or I feel like, hey,
- 47:57Speaker 6: my feelings got hurt by you. What you're saying I
- 48:00Speaker 6: would speak my mind. And that's the thing a lot
- 48:02Speaker 6: of people don't understand. You have to be willing to
- 48:05Speaker 6: speak your mind to people don't have the boys, especially,
- 48:10Speaker 6: would it come to generation curse because you think about it,
- 48:13Speaker 6: that thing they speaks a lot of things under the
- 48:15Speaker 6: rug are it's like, how did go seek?
- 48:19Speaker 5: Like, oh, we don't see it, so we don't believe it.
- 48:23Speaker 6: Yeah, you feel you can't say liar, you fibbing because
- 48:30Speaker 6: you say liar is diffrespectful, right right?
- 48:34Speaker 2: I remember that, and I can say that I broke
- 48:37Speaker 2: the generational curse for my children, my the three that
- 48:40Speaker 2: I burned.
- 48:42Speaker 5: What happened?
- 48:43Speaker 4: Where does that go anyway?
- 48:46Speaker 2: Oh?
- 48:46Speaker 4: Okay, you down on the other side. Okay.
- 48:50Speaker 2: I brought the generational curse from my children simply because
- 48:54Speaker 2: I was told that I wasn't gonna graduate high school
- 48:58Speaker 2: and my children were not going to do the same thing.
- 49:01Speaker 2: My daughter was going to be pregnant before she finished
- 49:04Speaker 2: high school because I was. However, my daughter finished school,
- 49:08Speaker 2: she graduated college in four years. She didn't have no
- 49:13Speaker 2: kids there. She now has a two year old little girl.
- 49:16Speaker 2: She's twenty eight years old, and my oldest son, he
- 49:21Speaker 2: has a son. He graduated high school.
- 49:23Speaker 4: He has a son. He didn't have no kids while
- 49:26Speaker 4: he was in school, my youngest. He still don't have
- 49:28Speaker 4: no kids. So I broke that curse because I.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Spoke to my children about the traumas that I experienced,
- 49:35Speaker 2: because I didn't want them to hear it from someone else.
- 49:39Speaker 2: You know, I can only want to tell my story
- 49:42Speaker 2: for myself. So I tell my story. Now that's another
- 49:47Speaker 2: topic for a whole other today. But before we get
- 49:51Speaker 2: out of here, because we're running a little low on
- 49:54Speaker 2: our time. So how can the readers and anybody who
- 49:59Speaker 2: wants to get into with you, how can they do that?
- 50:02Speaker 4: And tell them when this book is coming out?
- 50:04Speaker 6: Yes, man, so you can reach me as second, I'll
