- 0:00Matthew chapter 22. Let us pray.
- 0:05Our Father, who is in heaven, holy is your name, your Kingdom
- 0:13come, and your will be done here on this earth, just as it is in
- 0:17heaven. Give us today Our Daily Bread.
- 0:21Forgive us for our many sins. Help us to forgive those who sin
- 0:25against us. Lead us not into temptation.
- 0:28God, deliver us from the evil one, for yours is the Kingdom
- 0:35and the power and the glory forever and ever.
- 0:39We love you, King Jesus, we love everything about you.
- 0:43I decrease as you increase. Holy Spirit, teach us today.
- 0:47Teach us your ways. We are here and we're listening.
- 0:51We love you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
- 0:55Start in verse one. And Jesus answered and spoke
- 1:00unto them again by parables and said, if you've been following
- 1:04along, you can see that this is the passion week.
- 1:08You can see that Jesus is silencing all the opposition.
- 1:12He is all authority and he has been given all authority.
- 1:17And Jesus means what he says, and he says what he means. 2 The
- 1:23Kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a
- 1:27marriage for his son. He's talking about God, he's
- 1:31talking about us, he's talking about the church, he's talking
- 1:34about Jesus. 3 And he sent forth his servants to call them that
- 1:40were bidden to the wedding, and that they would not come.
- 1:43He's talking about the Israelites.
- 1:45He's talking about how he sent all of the angels to gather up
- 1:51the Israelites. He sent all the prophets to
- 1:54gather them up four. And again he sent forth other
- 1:57servants, saying, Tell them which are bid, and behold, I
- 2:02have prepared my dinner, my ox and my fatlings are killed, and
- 2:06all that are ready come unto the marriage.
- 2:09He's talking about heaven here. He's saying he's prepared a
- 2:13place, and he wants the Jews to come in five.
- 2:16But they made light of it, and they went their ways, one to his
- 2:20farm, another to his merchandise.
- 2:24Six. And the remnant took his
- 2:25servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
- 2:30So here, the servants of the king, the prophets, they were
- 2:36gone into Israel to try to get them to come in to eternity.
- 2:40But what did they do? They slew them.
- 2:43They treated all of them spitefully. 7 But when the king
- 2:47heard of it, he was wroth, and he sent forth his armies and
- 2:52destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.
- 2:55He's talking about 8070. He's talking about the
- 2:59Babylonians coming in and tearing down the First temple.
- 3:03He's talking about how they could not find their refuge in
- 3:08the temple of the Lord if they were not actually in tune with
- 3:12God Almighty 8 and then said he to his servants the wedding is
- 3:18ready but they which were bidden were not worthy.
- 3:21He's talking about all those that refused to come into the
- 3:25fold. 9 go you therefore into the highways, and as many as you
- 3:32shall find bid to the marriage. So he's talking about all the
- 3:36Gentiles, he's talking about the whole world.
- 3:39He's talking about a representative from every people
- 3:42group, every nation and tongue all over the globe coming in to
- 3:48heaven. 10 So those servants went out into the highways and
- 3:53gathered together all as many as they found both bad and good,
- 3:58and the wedding was furnished with guests.
- 4:01Think about it. It's how many of us have passed
- 4:06that we're not too proud of. How many of us have passed that
- 4:11we wish that we didn't have? But it is our testimony, isn't
- 4:15it, friends? And God uses it.
- 4:17Look at how many of us. We did not get what we deserved,
- 4:21did we? We deserve hell.
- 4:24But God has given us the Holy Spirit.
- 4:26He has given us His promises. He's given us the hope of
- 4:31eternity. Praise the Lord. 11 And when the
- 4:35king came to see the guests, he saw their man, which had not a
- 4:40wedding garment. So he's talking about the people
- 4:45who are not actually clothed in the righteousness of Jesus
- 4:50Christ. They're not actually clothed in
- 4:53the blood of Jesus that covers them from the top of their head
- 4:56to the bottom of their feet. And every single person is going
- 5:00to stand before Almighty God. And he's only going to see them
- 5:04one of two ways. He's either going to see the
- 5:06blood of Jesus Christ covering them, or he's going to see that
- 5:10one little secret sin that you didn't think anybody knew about.
- 5:14And he's going to tell those people.
- 5:16Depart from me, for I never knew you.
- 5:18But for those of us who are clothed in the righteousness of
- 5:22Jesus Christ, it is not by works that we get in France.
- 5:25It is by Jesus perfect life that he lived in his perfect
- 5:32sacrifice that you and I get in friends 12 And he said unto him,
- 5:36friend, how did you come here and not have the wedding
- 5:41garment? And he was speechless.
- 5:43That's what happens. That's what's going to happen on
- 5:46the day of the Great White Throne.
- 5:48That's what's going to happen. But every knee will bow and
- 5:51every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
- 5:54And I want you to know that they're going to be speechless
- 5:58when God opens the book and he shows them how many times they
- 6:05had the opportunity to give their lives over to Jesus
- 6:08Christ. All of creation proclaims his
- 6:10name. So that man is without excuse.
- 6:13Friends, even the rocks will cry out. 13 And then said the king
- 6:18to the servants, bind him hand and foot and take him away and
- 6:22cast him into the outer darkness, and there shall be
- 6:25weeping and gnashing of teeth. This is the death of a billion
- 6:29deaths where you can never die. It is a eternal place of torment
- 6:35that no person would ever want to go.
- 6:38Friends 14 for many are called, but fewer chosen.
- 6:42How many people have the opportunity to give their lives
- 6:45to the Lord, but they continuously blasphemy the Holy
- 6:48Spirit? How many people will
- 6:50continuously stiff arm God when He's calling them to Him, and
- 6:54they continuously stiff arm them, and then they die in that
- 6:58they harden their hearts and they die, and at friends, and
- 7:01they are eternally banished to the weeping and gnashing of
- 7:04teeth, where the worm never dies?
- 7:0615 Then went to Pharisees and took counsel how they might
- 7:11entangle him in his talk. They were trying to trap him
- 7:14friends. 16 And when they sent out unto him their disciples
- 7:18with the Herodian saying, Master, we know that you are
- 7:21true, and teach us the way of God and truth.
- 7:24Neither care for any man, for you regard not the person a man.
- 7:27Thank God that's how Jesus is. That's how Jesus was at this
- 7:32time. He does.
- 7:33He's not the respecter of men. He does not look at the outside.
- 7:36He is not about vanity. There was nothing about him that
- 7:40drew us to Him. And so therefore He looks at all
- 7:44of your intentions and your motives.
- 7:46Friends, He looks at your heart. He knows all of your thoughts.
- 7:51He knows your emotions and feelings.
- 7:53He knows everything. Friends, you cannot hide from
- 7:56Him. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do you think?
- 8:01Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar or not?
- 8:04They're trying to trap him and then tangle him.
- 8:06Either way, he answered, if it was on one side or the other
- 8:11side, it was going to be wrong. And he says, Is it lawful to
- 8:16give tribute unto Caesar? 18 But Jesus perceived their
- 8:21wickedness, and said, Why do you tempt me, you hypocrites?
- 8:2519 Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a
- 8:29penny. And he said unto them, Whose is
- 8:32this image and superscription? 21 And they said unto him,
- 8:36Caesar's. And then he said unto them,
- 8:38Render therefore unto Caesar's the things which are Caesar's,
- 8:42and unto God the things that are gods. 22 When they had heard
- 8:46these words, they marveled, and they left him.
- 8:49And they went their way. They could not trap him.
- 8:52He was so good at what he did. And he shows us that we need to
- 8:57give our entire lives over to God because we are made in the
- 9:01image of God, friends. And he shows us here that we
- 9:05need to obey the law, friends, unless the law goes against God.
- 9:1023 And the same day came to him the Sadducees, which say there
- 9:15is no resurrection. And they asked him, 24 Saying,
- 9:18Master Moses said, If a man dies and has no children, his brother
- 9:22shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother. 25 Now
- 9:26there was with us seven brothers, the 1st when he had
- 9:29married a wife deceased, and having no issue, left his wife
- 9:33unto his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third
- 9:37unto the 7th. 27 And last of all, the woman died also. 28
- 9:43Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the
- 9:48seven? For they all had her.
- 9:51So here they're trying to trap Jesus.
- 9:52They don't even believe in the resurrection.
- 9:55They only studied the first five books of the Bible, these
- 9:58Sadducees, and they did not believe in any of the spiritual.
- 10:02They did not even believe in the angels.
- 10:04They were so wrapped up in their hypocrisy, and they're trying to
- 10:10trap Jesus. What did he say?
- 10:1229 Jesus answered and said unto them, You do err, not knowing
- 10:17the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection
- 10:20they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the
- 10:24angels of God in heaven, 31 But as touching the resurrection of
- 10:28the dead, have you not read that which was spoken unto you by
- 10:31God, saying, 32 I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- 10:36God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
- 10:42So he didn't say I was the God of Abraham, I was the God of
- 10:46Isaac, I was the God of Jacob. He's showing these religious
- 10:52hypocrites. He's showing them that he is the
- 10:56God and that no one ever really dies.
- 10:59And he shows us here that in the resurrection we will have
- 11:04resurrected bodies and we will not need to procreate.
- 11:07And there is a final number of people that are going to come
- 11:11into the fold. And Jesus said, I go to prepare
- 11:14a place for you. And in my father's house there
- 11:16are many mansions. And that is where we're headed,
- 11:19friends. And he's showing them the air of
- 11:21their ways. 33 And when the multitude heard this, they were
- 11:27astonished at his doctrine. He used their own game against
- 11:31him. He actually referenced the first
- 11:33five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch.
- 11:36He referenced it. And he showed them that right
- 11:39there in the five books that they only believed in was the
- 11:43answer to their own question. 34 But when the Pharisees had heard
- 11:48that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered
- 11:52together. They said, Oh, he thinks he's so
- 11:54smart, we've got a game to play with them. 35 Then one of them,
- 12:00which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him and
- 12:03saying, What did he say, Master, Which is the great commandment
- 12:07in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, You
- 12:10shall love the Lord thy God with all your heart, with all your
- 12:14soul, with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great
- 12:18commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, You shall love
- 12:22your neighbor as yourself. 40 And on these two commandments
- 12:26hang all the law and the prophets.
- 12:29So Jesus is showing them here in the most simple way.
- 12:33He's showing them that he did not come to abolish the law, but
- 12:37to fulfill it and everything that's fulfilled and loving the
- 12:40Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and
- 12:43loving your neighbor as yourself.
- 12:45We would do well to keep these two in our minds throughout our
- 12:49day all the time. We do not need to be duplicious
- 12:53in our approach to our very lives.
- 12:56In this day that you woke up today, you cannot serve both God
- 13:01and Mammon. You must choose whom you will
- 13:04serve today. But As for me and my house, we
- 13:07will serve the Lord and then he goes on to compound that to say
- 13:12love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself.
- 13:18This is something we would do well to live peaceably among men
- 13:25and to make sure that we're taking care of the widow and the
- 13:30orphan in their time of distress, which is true religion
- 13:33in the sight of God. 41 While the Pharisees were gathered
- 13:41together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying, What do you what thank
- 13:46you of Christ, Whose son is he? They said unto him the Son of
- 13:51David. 43 And he said unto them, How then does David in spirit
- 13:57call him Lord, saying, 44 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit you
- 14:03on my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool. 45
- 14:09If David then calls him Lord, how is he his Son?
- 14:1546 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither did any man
- 14:21from that day forth ask him any more questions.
- 14:25Think about it for a second, friends.
- 14:28Jesus put up with all of their blasphemous questionings and
- 14:37then right here at the end of the chapter he flips the script
- 14:41and he asks them a question and He shows them that He is all man
- 14:50and all God. And here they are thinking that
- 14:55their Messiah was going to just be born from the lineage of
- 15:00David, but they did not know that he was going to be all God.
- 15:06They were looking for a Liberator and not a savior,
- 15:09friends. And they were.
- 15:10They were just thinking one side of the coin.
- 15:14And so many of us in our day, so many of us in our, our, we do
- 15:19the same thing friends. So many of us, we are only
- 15:26looking at prophecy from 1 lens and we try to boil it down and
- 15:33we try to just get others to see it one way.
- 15:38And God has many different tapestry and layers to 1
- 15:43prophecy and it can mean things then we that is the reason that
- 15:48we need to be students of the word of God.
- 15:51And there are so many people that are willing to die on hills
- 15:56that are not worth dying on. There's so many people who
- 16:02divide over things in the Bible because they're only looking at
- 16:08it from 1 angle. And there's so much tapestry and
- 16:14layers to Scripture. And yes, we can know it, and
- 16:19yes, we can learn it. And yes, we should be able to
- 16:22teach it. We should be at places in our
- 16:25walk with God where we're not just still on the spiritual
- 16:29milk, but we're actually able to chomp down on the T-bone steak
- 16:34and to digest it. Friends, it is not that it's so
- 16:39unsearchable that we don't know it, but there's many things that
- 16:44will come to light as time goes on and we must be OK with that.
- 16:49Friends, sure hope you've been blessed by this chapter here.
- 16:55I know I sure have many times over.
- 16:58I love every single one of you. I'm praying for you and we'll
- 17:09see you back here tomorrow. God bless you.
