- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Here at the beginning of a new year, I want to challenge you to start thinking about the end of the year.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Yes, I know the year has just now started, but if you don't consider what your goals are, you're never going to achieve them.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: So don't start this year without some kind of plan or idea of what you want to accomplish or some kind of goals.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: As Stephen Covey says in the seven habits of highly effective people, begin with the end in mind.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So with that, I want to challenge you to think about what you want your writing life and business life to look like at the end of this year.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And to that end, we're doing a short five-day series on New Year's goals for writers.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to issue five challenges to you.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: These are five commitments that I want you to make this year.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And if you do these five things, I promise they will change your life.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: The first goal is to finally write that book that you've been talking and dreaming about for years.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: You know, writing a book honestly never seems that urgent.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: It's something that people want to do, it's something they dream about, but dreams rarely seem urgent until you wake up one day and you realize that time is slipping away and you never actually accomplished what you set out to do in life.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Now, the cool thing is that when you write a book, you automatically become an authority on that topic.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: If the book is well written and it looks good and has a good cover and so forth, you know, a bad book is not really going to help you, but a good, solid book with a great cover is really going to help you become an authority and have credibility on that topic.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: A book can open doors, a book can help you make money, it can change people's lives, and it can go places in the world that you'll never be able to go.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: When you have a book out there with your name on it, I believe that it's magic.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Success in your writing life does not have to be complicated.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Success in your writing life doesn't have to be complicated.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: In fact, success usually comes down to doing just a few focused things well.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And as a writer, getting your first book out there or your next book is a critical piece of the puzzle.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It's been said that eight out of ten people want to write a book.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: However, the vast majority of people never actually do it.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So when you choose to put the time and the effort into finally writing that book that you've been thinking about and that you've been dreaming about, you'll be able to join the elite club of people known as authors.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: My friend, I believe you can do it.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: I have faith in you, and I want you to commit to making it happen this year.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Well, if you've been listening to this podcast a while, you know that at the end of every episode, I give a question just to help you think about what we talked about in that episode.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: But we're going to switch that up here in 2023.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Instead of asking a question, I want to give you a challenge because I want you to focus on taking action this year.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Instead of just thinking about things and dreaming about things and wondering about things and being curious, I want you to actually do something with that, with those dreams, with that curiosity and with that impulse, uh with that impulse to move forward with the things that you want to accomplish.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to start issuing a challenge.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And today's challenge is simply this.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I want you to shoot me an email with the subject line I'm in and tell me about the book that you want to write this year.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I promise that I read every single one of my emails.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I don't have an assistant or somebody else who goes through my email.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I answer all of my emails personally.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So I want you to shoot me an email with the subject line I'm in and tell me about the book that you want to write this year.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: You can email me at Kent at DailyRiderLife.com.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: That is Kent at DailyRiderLife.com.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear from you.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I promise I will reply, and I'm looking forward to seeing what amazing things that you accomplish this year.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you in the next episode.
