- 0:30Speaker 1: dbs and tight ends on Friday, the marquee positions Saturday
- 0:35Speaker 1: afternoon that's quarterbacks, running backs and receivers. And then for
- 0:39Speaker 1: the true football freaks, the hardcores O lineman working out Sunday.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Watch all the workouts NFL Network. I am Chad Mollman,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Chief Content Officer of the Action Network, and we are
- 0:53Speaker 1: going to get all the NFL goodness today with my
- 0:56Speaker 1: co host, my bff, my companion, Michaeh Padre professional at
- 1:00Speaker 1: her Simon Hunter. Hello, so I am it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I've become by a week Chad brother.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I mentioned the combine. You mentioned the combine. We love
- 1:11Speaker 1: the combine. Uh. We need to give a shout out
- 1:15Speaker 1: to a very special someone. Many many moons ago, thirty
- 1:22Speaker 1: years ago, when I started my career out of college
- 1:24Speaker 1: at Sports Illustrated, I covered my first combine and normally
- 1:28Speaker 1: my job, Simon was fact checking the NFL Insider column
- 1:34Speaker 1: for Peter King, and for those who don't know who
- 1:36Speaker 1: Peter King is, a job that was a great It
- 1:39Speaker 1: was a great job. I literally got out of college
- 1:43Speaker 1: got a job at Sports Illustrated. It was late summer
- 1:46Speaker 1: and they assigned me to fact check Peter King, who
- 1:50Speaker 1: you don't know like Peter King, was Adam Schefter and
- 1:53Speaker 1: WOJ rolled into one for the NFL, and Sports Illustrated
- 1:57Speaker 1: in the mid nineties was bigger than an ESPN was
- 2:02Speaker 1: big but didn't do what s I was doing. There
- 2:04Speaker 1: was no Internet that people were competing with. It was
- 2:07Speaker 1: Sports Illustrated. It was Peter King's NFL column. He had
- 2:10Speaker 1: a Monday night football gig and I was his fact checker.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And right out of college, it was amazing. And he
- 2:16Speaker 1: is the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful, gracious, encouraging, supportive mentor
- 2:24Speaker 1: anybody could have and anybody would say that. He loved
- 2:29Speaker 1: the combine so much. He was so ahead of everyone
- 2:31Speaker 1: on how to cover it, recognizing the value of the
- 2:36Speaker 1: all inclusive NFL experience. He couldn't go, so he sent
- 2:42Speaker 1: me and he looks at me and he goes, Chad,
- 2:45Speaker 1: He's got a really distinct way of speaking. I'm not
- 2:47Speaker 1: going to try to imitate it. Chad, you are going
- 2:50Speaker 1: to love it. Gms are going to whisper sweet nothings
- 2:55Speaker 1: in your ear over drinks. And the way he described it,
- 3:00Speaker 1: it was so romantic. It was like, if you can't
- 3:04Speaker 1: get into covering the NFL after hearing Peter King talk
- 3:06Speaker 1: to you about covering the NFL, then you're not meant
- 3:09Speaker 1: for this business. And I mentioned Peter King because he
- 3:11Speaker 1: announced his retirement yesterday. You know, for years he was
- 3:14Speaker 1: at Sports Illustrator. He started the Monday Morning Quarterback section
- 3:18Speaker 1: at Sports Illustrated based on his brilliant column Monday Morning Quarterback.
- 3:22Speaker 1: He then took it to NBC did Football Morning in
- 3:25Speaker 1: America at the column at nbcsports dot Com was on
- 3:29Speaker 1: Football Night in America for so long. He has officially
- 3:32Speaker 1: announced his retirement after forty years of covering the NFL.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So we will raise our glass to Peter King, my
- 3:40Speaker 1: first boss, a Hall of Famer who helped pioneer modern
- 3:45Speaker 1: day NFL coverage. Did you know that? Did you know
- 3:47Speaker 1: who Peter King was and his sort of import.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I didn't know your connection to him. I mean, Chad,
- 3:53Speaker 2: any name you can drop, I am shocked. And you
- 3:55Speaker 2: don't drop it earlier. So knowing that I never knew
- 3:58Speaker 2: that you worked for Peter King's pretty amazing for me.
- 4:01Speaker 2: He's I guess, he is a hero. He's someone I've
- 4:03Speaker 2: read since I was very young, and I'm with Chad,
- 4:06Speaker 2: like I just every Monday morning, whether my team would
- 4:10Speaker 2: win or lose, I'd read Peter's column. And you know,
- 4:14Speaker 2: as I've gotten older, I've seen Peter through a different light,
- 4:18Speaker 2: especially now getting in the media. I'm happy Peter kept
- 4:20Speaker 2: doing it because I know, I mean, I'm sure you
- 4:22Speaker 2: know the spine closed doors. I've heard he he doesn't
- 4:25Speaker 2: like sports betty. He's not a fan of sports betting.
- 4:26Speaker 2: He doesn't like how much it's in intertwined with football nowadays.
- 4:29Speaker 2: So I hope he keeps doing some type of work
- 4:32Speaker 2: with football because I love his view his viewpoint on stuff.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It's just he just takes me back to a different time, right.
- 4:38Speaker 2: He's just from a different area. He's a different type
- 4:40Speaker 2: of writer. So it's a sad day. It's sad. It's
- 4:43Speaker 2: sad and you lose someone like this. But I think
- 4:45Speaker 2: he's like a lot of these guys who stake a
- 4:46Speaker 2: year off, maybe they get the itch again me. I
- 4:48Speaker 2: don't know if you read his last piece, but it
- 4:50Speaker 2: seemed like he just lost that itch. I hope he
- 4:52Speaker 2: just takes a little break and he comes back, just
- 4:53Speaker 2: because football is better when Peter King is involved in it.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So look, you're right about all of it. It is
- 4:59Speaker 1: And the most impressive thing is Peter is one of
- 5:03Speaker 1: those guys who sources loved, not because he was trying
- 5:10Speaker 1: to kiss their ass. He was a good guy who
- 5:13Speaker 1: was unbelievably fair. He would report what he knew. He
- 5:17Speaker 1: would be fair about letting you comment, He would be
- 5:19Speaker 1: fair about letting you know when it was coming. He
- 5:21Speaker 1: knew everybody, knew everything, worked harder than everybody, and treated
- 5:25Speaker 1: everybody with kindness, like just a class act all the way.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And I'm glad you. I'm glad you appreciate it and
- 5:32Speaker 1: recognized if Peter King. Actually, you know, back in New York,
- 5:36Speaker 1: you had to when you would buy an apartment. It
- 5:38Speaker 1: was often in a co op, like in a co
- 5:40Speaker 1: op building. Right in co op buildings, you'd have to
- 5:42Speaker 1: get interviewed by the co op board and to decide
- 5:45Speaker 1: if they were going to let you move in, and
- 5:47Speaker 1: you needed reference letters and when my wife and I
- 5:51Speaker 1: bought our first apartment in a co op in New York.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Peter King wrote me the.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Reference letter good guy, just a good guy.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Good guy all the way around, one of the best,
- 6:00Speaker 1: one of the best to ever do it.
- 6:01Speaker 3: You're out of your f in mind. So I'll tell you.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I'm not saying I'm going necessarily on red alert, but
- 6:08Speaker 3: I'm damn excited. And if we had a two hour podcast,
- 6:13Speaker 3: I'd give you a full segment on high alert.
- 6:15Speaker 1: As a reminder, The Favorites Podcast is presented by Bet
- 6:18Speaker 1: three six five. Bet three sixty five doesn't do ordinary.
- 6:21Speaker 1: That's why you get more boosts with them than with

- 6:27Speaker 1: win more. Bet three sixty five boost specific markets, your
- 6:30Speaker 1: winnings and even parlays, and they don't stop there, keeping
- 6:33Speaker 1: out for their biggest and best odds with the incredible
- 6:35Speaker 1: super Boost. Check out the boosts and see why it's
- 6:37Speaker 1: never ordinary at Bet three six five. Must be twenty
- 6:40Speaker 1: one or older and present in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana,
- 6:44Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia or eighteen and older. In Kentucky,
- 6:48Speaker 1: gambling problem called one eight hundred gambler or one eight
- 6:50Speaker 1: hundred bets off. In Iowa terms, conditioned restrictions apply. So, Simon,
- 6:55Speaker 1: as I said, it's the beginning of acquisition season. We
- 6:58Speaker 1: got the combine and we got free agents, then we
- 7:00Speaker 1: got the run to the draft. But this week the
- 7:03Speaker 1: big news was announcing the new salary cap. The new
- 7:09Speaker 1: salary cap in the NFL is two hundred and fifty
- 7:11Speaker 1: five million dollars higher than it's ever been, thirty one
- 7:14Speaker 1: million more per team. So I want to play a
- 7:17Speaker 1: little game. I want to play a little game of
- 7:21Speaker 1: and things we're going to talk about today. Teams with
- 7:24Speaker 1: salary cap space, quarterback rankings for the draft, What in
- 7:30Speaker 1: the world is happening in New England. I want to
- 7:32Speaker 1: start with who do you trust versus who is closest?
- 7:39Speaker 1: And what I mean by that is, if you look
- 7:41Speaker 1: at the teams with the most salary cap space, Commanders
- 7:47Speaker 1: seventy nine million, massive needs a quarterback and offensive line. Titans, Bears,
- 7:53Speaker 1: Pats seventy eight million, all have needs. If we're talking
- 7:58Speaker 1: about the Bears, the Pats, and the Commanders, we're talking
- 8:01Speaker 1: about the teams with the top three picks and then
- 8:03Speaker 1: lurking down at the bottom. And I'm gonna want to
- 8:05Speaker 1: talk about this. Behind the Titans, Colts seventy two million,
- 8:10Speaker 1: Texans sixty seven million. So taking the AFC South out
- 8:15Speaker 1: of it for a second, who do we trust who
- 8:21Speaker 1: is closest with the combination of cap money and high picks?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Who do we trust the most? Right now? Between the Bears,
- 8:32Speaker 1: the Commanders, and the Patriots, I mean.
- 8:38Speaker 2: None of them, but the Bears, I suppose, if that's
- 8:40Speaker 2: my choices. The Patriots, we have no idea what their
- 8:44Speaker 2: feature is about to be, Like, Like, they are truly
- 8:47Speaker 2: stepping into the unknown for the first time well over
- 8:49Speaker 2: twenty years, and it could be disastrous, right, Like, the
- 8:54Speaker 2: whole Patriots scenario could be a nightmare. Sam goes for
- 8:58Speaker 2: Washington and the new ownership they have, right, we have
- 9:00Speaker 2: no idea if this new ownership is going to be good.
- 9:02Speaker 2: They're putting the right people in place, you know, both
- 9:06Speaker 2: these teams, I mean, the Patriots are a little easier, right,
- 9:08Speaker 2: The Patriots aren't forced to make a decision where Washington is.
- 9:12Speaker 2: There's a big decision for them to make. Between Daniels
- 9:15Speaker 2: and May So the way it's laid out is the
- 9:19Speaker 2: Bears are. It feels like ahead of all both those
- 9:22Speaker 2: teams easily right now. Where the Bears have some talent,
- 9:26Speaker 2: you guys have some people to build around at least
- 9:30Speaker 2: this draft. If it breaks right, and if your GM's aggressive,
- 9:33Speaker 2: you could walk away with the number one quarterback and
- 9:36Speaker 2: another number one receiver. Like this is these top three
- 9:39Speaker 2: receivers are really impressive. So you know, most people can
- 9:44Speaker 2: go out there and look at these mocks. Not only
- 9:46Speaker 2: these mocks have any of these guys falling to you,
- 9:48Speaker 2: Chad at that pick at nine. So to me, the
- 9:51Speaker 2: Bears if they want what Miami's done with the Eagles did,
- 9:54Speaker 2: which is you go out you get a number one
- 9:57Speaker 2: receiver and then in the draft you go get yourself
- 9:59Speaker 2: a wattle, go get yourself to Dante Smith, you attack
- 10:02Speaker 2: that second receiver position. I think the Bears could do it.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I know I've heard a couple of Bears face talking
- 10:07Speaker 2: about trying to go offensive line, but these three guys
- 10:11Speaker 2: are such unique talents. Either either one of these receivers
- 10:13Speaker 2: you can get if you could. I think it is
- 10:15Speaker 2: the move for them to try and move up somehow
- 10:17Speaker 2: and get one. So with the Bears and all that money,
- 10:20Speaker 2: they can address the offensive line and these other key positions.
- 10:24Speaker 2: There's really not the projected out wide receiver type right
- 10:27Speaker 2: now free agency, like there's no one for them to
- 10:29Speaker 2: go out there and really put a lot of money
- 10:31Speaker 2: into that'd be worth doing, where taking one of these
- 10:34Speaker 2: kids in the top ten would be worth doing a
- 10:36Speaker 2: wide receiver position. So yeah, the Bears right now, I
- 10:39Speaker 2: feel like there are leaps and bounds ahead of both
- 10:41Speaker 2: these teams just because they have this pick because of
- 10:43Speaker 2: a trade Chad. So yeah, the GM has already proven
- 10:46Speaker 2: he knows what he's doing right now. He's pretty savvy,
- 10:49Speaker 2: so I will let him keep making these picks. Solim
- 10:53Speaker 2: interview today, he said all the right things about Justin fields,
- 10:55Speaker 2: protecting Justin fields, not even telling people yet if they're
- 10:58Speaker 2: going to trade him, even though we all know he is.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think they're going about it the right way right now.
- 11:02Speaker 2: This Bears the organization.
- 11:04Speaker 1: They did say they won't use the franchise tag and
- 11:06Speaker 1: a quarterback. They also said today they don't want to
- 11:11Speaker 1: use the franchise tag on Jalen Johnson, their Pro Bowl
- 11:16Speaker 1: cornerback who really came on strong in the second half
- 11:19Speaker 1: of the year, once the Bears had Montes Sweat to
- 11:23Speaker 1: lock down the pass rush and the edge rushing situation defensively,
- 11:29Speaker 1: Bears currently forty to one to win the Super Bowl.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Pats and Commanders, reflective of their status, one hundred and
- 11:37Speaker 1: thirty five to one each of them to win the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Super Bowl all of a sudden, that's.
- 11:43Speaker 2: What the Bears should be though. I mean, I guess
- 11:45Speaker 2: those odds are just because they have fields on the
- 11:46Speaker 2: team right now. But we talk and the history of
- 11:49Speaker 2: the NFL. A rookie quarterback has never won a championship
- 11:54Speaker 2: game in the afsho in the NFC, So it's just
- 11:57Speaker 2: fools airing a better rookie to win the Super Bowl.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, like we were. I know, we were all over
- 12:01Speaker 1: the Bears last year. And by the way, we were
- 12:04Speaker 1: on the Bears last year when it started at one
- 12:06Speaker 1: hundred to one and got down to sixty one, and
- 12:08Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, it's forty to one. Why
- 12:10Speaker 1: because they're drafting Caleb Williams, because they got seventy eight
- 12:13Speaker 1: million in calf space. Like, let's be realistic here, They're
- 12:17Speaker 1: still they'd have to come out of a division that
- 12:20Speaker 1: includes the Packers who were better, the Lions who are better,
- 12:24Speaker 1: Minnesota who could be better if they get their quarterback
- 12:27Speaker 1: situation settled. Great division, the NFC North.
- 12:30Speaker 2: But that line is in case justin Field stays because
- 12:33Speaker 2: if he stays yes, different, you can try it down.
- 12:35Speaker 2: They do take on Marvin Harris type and then take
- 12:38Speaker 2: an offensive linement or whatever the next pick. That's a
- 12:41Speaker 2: big deal. But again, we all know that would be
- 12:43Speaker 2: very stupid if they actually did that move. So I
- 12:45Speaker 2: do not think the Bears will we make in that
- 12:46Speaker 2: kind of move.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think so either. New England is so interesting,
- 12:51Speaker 1: one of the most hated teams in all of sports.
- 12:56Speaker 1: What's happening like Craft feels very petty about the way
- 13:04Speaker 1: he's managing this Belichick situation and also feels like he's
- 13:11Speaker 1: making everybody audition right Mayo Girodmeo the coach Elliott Wolf
- 13:18Speaker 1: who's not the GM but is calling the shots, son
- 13:20Speaker 1: of legendary GM ron Wolf. They have historically been terrible
- 13:27Speaker 1: at drafting. They have no quarterback, they have no offensive line.
- 13:35Speaker 1: What do we make of this team right now?
- 13:39Speaker 2: It feels like the end of a twenty year run
- 13:41Speaker 2: of just ego and ton of winning. And I think
- 13:44Speaker 2: of all fans that would know what this is going
- 13:46Speaker 2: to be like, what their future is about to be like,
- 13:48Speaker 2: it's Chicago Bears Chicago Bulls fans, right, the Chicago Bulls
- 13:53Speaker 2: and the Patriots similarity are so strong in so many ways,
- 13:58Speaker 2: it's crazy. And it feels like they're about to go
- 14:02Speaker 2: through it and Crafts about to go through it. Of
- 14:05Speaker 2: they're back to the real world. They're back to being,
- 14:09Speaker 2: you know, just a team that no one's gonna have
- 14:11Speaker 2: faith in this team, right, This is a bunch of
- 14:14Speaker 2: unknown head coach and unknown GM. They have a ton
- 14:17Speaker 2: of money. I've seen some mocks where they have them
- 14:20Speaker 2: trade now not taking a quarterback. I really think that'd
- 14:23Speaker 2: be really dumb. I think they just need to take it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I love these prospects, you know, Drake Man is his
- 14:30Speaker 2: weaknesses and his strengths. I mean, we haven't talked about
- 14:33Speaker 2: Daniels yet, but I love Jay and Daniels, so to me,
- 14:38Speaker 2: either quarterback falls to them. The Patriots just take one there.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And the spending the money parts can be really tough
- 14:44Speaker 2: because they are years away, especially in that division where
- 14:47Speaker 2: there is no real band aid fix. They can do
- 14:49Speaker 2: to really get this team better. Like you said, they
- 14:52Speaker 2: haven't drafted well in a couple of years. I mean
- 14:53Speaker 2: last year's draft was pretty good honestly for them. So yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 2: chaed it's it's tough to project this team out. But
- 15:03Speaker 2: say they do take a rookie quarterback here, or say
- 15:05Speaker 2: they do for some reason trade back and take JJ
- 15:08Speaker 2: McCarthy mid round of the first round, that means they've
- 15:13Speaker 2: taken a rookie in a division with Aaron Rodgers, Tua
- 15:17Speaker 2: and Josh Allen. So it's just going to be really
- 15:21Speaker 2: dark now, really tough for this Patriots team for the
- 15:23Speaker 2: next couple of years, and they're a team up. If
- 15:27Speaker 2: they do stay where they're at and take one of
- 15:29Speaker 2: these rookie qbs, that to me is the right move.
- 15:32Speaker 2: But if they trade down and take JJ McCarthy, I
- 15:35Speaker 2: won't give them crap for that either, just because they
- 15:37Speaker 2: do need a bunch of picks to really fill out
- 15:39Speaker 2: this team. So yeah, there are years away from being
- 15:42Speaker 2: relevant this Patriots team.
- 15:44Speaker 1: What an interesting analogy which I have not heard anybody make,
- 15:48Speaker 1: which is the New England Patriots or the nineteen ninety
- 15:52Speaker 1: eight version of the Chicago Bulls ownership decided they wanted
- 15:57Speaker 1: to go in a new direction. They had the there,
- 16:00Speaker 1: but egos got in the way between Phil Jackson and
- 16:04Speaker 1: Jerry Krause and Reinsdorf kind of didn't do anything to
- 16:07Speaker 1: stop it. In this case, it's Belichick and Craft so
- 16:13Speaker 1: and they had something so beautiful for so long, and
- 16:20Speaker 1: you're right, they are all of a sudden going to
- 16:22Speaker 1: see what it's like to really just be another franchise
- 16:27Speaker 1: that is struggling for a very long time to find
- 16:31Speaker 1: the right pieces. And the Bulls luck, it's been twenty
- 16:33Speaker 1: six years, the Bulls still haven't gotten there. And so
- 16:37Speaker 1: if that's the kind of run the Patriots might be
- 16:39Speaker 1: in for, they're going to rude the day that they
- 16:42Speaker 1: decided we had to rush to get rid of Tom
- 16:45Speaker 1: Brady and rush to get rid of Bill Belichick. Fascinating analogy.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I like it, Yeah, And just the whole thing about them,
- 16:55Speaker 2: like you said, pushing them out because they deem them
- 16:57Speaker 2: as past due. And you know, Jordan talked about how
- 17:02Speaker 2: much that hurt him, where it's like they should have
- 17:04Speaker 2: let them go for number seven. They shouldn't have pushed
- 17:06Speaker 2: him out, and those guys they'd earned that right and
- 17:09Speaker 2: Phil had earned that right to stay, and it felt
- 17:13Speaker 2: like at the end of the day. I don't know
- 17:15Speaker 2: if you watch this Patriots documentary, but Dynasty, it does
- 17:19Speaker 2: feel like eventually the ego got the best of all
- 17:21Speaker 2: of them. And it's going to be interesting how it
- 17:24Speaker 2: is now, just because it's still clearly there with Craft
- 17:27Speaker 2: that he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room
- 17:29Speaker 2: because he has put an unknown GM in a power
- 17:31Speaker 2: position and an unknown head coach in a power position.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So interesting days ahead for this Patriots organization.
- 17:39Speaker 1: So let's talk about the AFC South for a second,
- 17:41Speaker 1: which historically you and I have bashed consistently as the
- 17:46Speaker 1: division with teams nobody cares about except for the very
- 17:49Speaker 1: small region in which they play. All of a sudden, though,
- 17:53Speaker 1: the Colts have seventy two million, the Texans have sixty
- 17:56Speaker 1: seven million. The Colts have Anthony Richardson, the I'm sorry,
- 18:01Speaker 1: the Titans have seventy two million. No, No, the Colts
- 18:04Speaker 1: have seventy two, the Texans have sixty seven. The Titans
- 18:08Speaker 1: have seventy eight. We like Anthony Richardson, we like CJ. Stroud,
- 18:13Speaker 1: Jury's out and Will Levis, but this is all of
- 18:15Speaker 1: a sudden a division with those three teams in the Jags,
- 18:20Speaker 1: that gets very fascinating, and the Titans, to me, we
- 18:25Speaker 1: talked about this last week. Bill Callahan might be the
- 18:28Speaker 1: most important signing for that team forgetting about any players
- 18:32Speaker 1: they bring, because of a history of building really strong
- 18:36Speaker 1: offensive lines and that offensive line last year. I can't
- 18:42Speaker 1: tell you how many times in my notes I wrote down,
- 18:45Speaker 1: I'm worried Ryan Tannehill might get killed because that offensive
- 18:49Speaker 1: line was so so bad. So all of a sudden,
- 18:52Speaker 1: if he makes that offensive line better and Will Levis
- 18:57Speaker 1: feels a little bit more confident and he's not just
- 18:59Speaker 1: using his arm thrown off his back foot, is that
- 19:01Speaker 1: team suddenly competitive. We've got a fascinating dynamic with all
- 19:07Speaker 1: four of these teams right now. Give me your take
- 19:11Speaker 1: on the Titans potential, especially in that division.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's exciting, But like you said, I feel like
- 19:18Speaker 2: they're the furthest back right. I have the Colts above them, obviously,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I have Houston way ahead of them, and the Jaguars
- 19:25Speaker 2: are kind of the same place where, Yeah, if you're
- 19:28Speaker 2: you're a very Tennessee fan, you should be happy that
- 19:31Speaker 2: you've got a great offensive line coach. Now, that's all
- 19:33Speaker 2: about bringing the pieces in drafting right and then building
- 19:35Speaker 2: around Will Levis. Like you said, I don't know what
- 19:38Speaker 2: he is either, Like this kid has a great arm,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I don't know if he's great at reading defenses. I
- 19:42Speaker 2: don't know how smart he is. So yeah, big big
- 19:45Speaker 2: deal for this team. You know they're gonna have a
- 19:49Speaker 2: great offensive line and fall to them in the first round,
- 19:51Speaker 2: Like they could take one of the top ten easily
- 19:54Speaker 2: and just get it started. Or go attack the wide
- 19:57Speaker 2: receiver position. I already talked about there's three great receivers
- 19:59Speaker 2: in this draft. Go get one if you're Tennessee and
- 20:01Speaker 2: give Will love us like a weapon us on the outside.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So yeah, just look at their draft and how they
- 20:07Speaker 2: project out. I just have them far behind because there
- 20:10Speaker 2: are so many holes to fill. I mean, what was
- 20:12Speaker 2: that three years ago, I believe, or two years ago
- 20:15Speaker 2: they were the one seed in the AFC. So a
- 20:18Speaker 2: lot of those guys had either aged out or moved on.
- 20:21Speaker 2: They're a shell of that former team, Like they've just
- 20:23Speaker 2: really lost all the talent. So I don't see him
- 20:26Speaker 2: being a quick turn around for Tennessee. I think it's
- 20:27Speaker 2: gonna be a couple of years where Houston we talked
- 20:29Speaker 2: about last year, their way ahead of schedule. So the
- 20:31Speaker 2: fact that Houston has all that money, they could go
- 20:35Speaker 2: spend it on dumb things if they want, and I
- 20:36Speaker 2: don't think it's going to hurt him. Like I've seen
- 20:38Speaker 2: a couple of news reports to them going after Saquon Barkley.
- 20:42Speaker 2: It's stupid, but for them it's not because it's like,
- 20:46Speaker 2: why would you not go Saquon Barkley. He's a great player.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Why would a team not want to add him to
- 20:50Speaker 2: their team, especially Houston. They don't really need it, though,
- 20:53Speaker 2: Like it's not I mean we talk all the time.
- 20:57Speaker 2: These running backs don't really make or break these teams
- 20:59Speaker 2: historically to find other guys to build around. So yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 2: my hope is Houston just spends on the defensive front
- 21:06Speaker 2: and maybe keeps adding to that offensive line, because, like
- 21:09Speaker 2: you said, that's so much money for a team that
- 21:12Speaker 2: has the best player of their quarterback on a rookie deal,
- 21:15Speaker 2: and we talk all the time, that's the window for
- 21:16Speaker 2: a lot of these teams. So yeah, it's it's bad though,
- 21:21Speaker 2: Like even when we're talking about this right now, if
- 21:22Speaker 2: you're the Jaguars, you know they they might be in
- 21:27Speaker 2: a really tough division for the next couple of years.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Jad Like they all of a sudden they were feeling good, right,
- 21:31Speaker 2: they had Trevor Lawrence. Everyone else in their division had
- 21:34Speaker 2: old or no really good quarterbacks at their quarterback position. Now,
- 21:37Speaker 2: like you just said it, a year later, every team
- 21:41Speaker 2: kind of has some hope and something to look forward to.
- 21:43Speaker 2: So yeah, big big season for Obsanthony Richardson, Will Levis
- 21:46Speaker 2: to figure out what they are. But Trevor Lawrence obviously
- 21:49Speaker 2: has the biggest target on his back. He did not
- 21:52Speaker 2: he did not play well enough down the stretch last year,
- 21:54Speaker 2: and I know it's cause injury, but yeah, losing the division,
- 21:57Speaker 2: all of it. He's got a lot to answer this
- 21:59Speaker 2: cup coming season. So definitely most pressure team in this
- 22:03Speaker 2: division has to be the Jaguars.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Well, you just made a good point about the money, right,
- 22:07Speaker 1: they both have sixty seven million. Crazy, they're both their
- 22:11Speaker 1: biggest needs. Both of them are in the defensive backfield.
- 22:17Speaker 1: If you're the Colts, if you're the Texans, how do
- 22:21Speaker 1: you not back up a truck for Kansas City Chiefs
- 22:26Speaker 1: cornerback Lugerious Need, Who's.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Gonna get tagged? I guarantee it'll be franchise tagged. They
- 22:33Speaker 2: got to talk to some really smart people that work
- 22:35Speaker 2: for the Chiefs and they're like, we'll make him an offer.
- 22:37Speaker 2: He doesn't take it, we're just gonna tag him. There's
- 22:39Speaker 2: no way he'll walk away from trying to three pete.
- 22:41Speaker 2: So I'm with you, though they don't. That's your your
- 22:44Speaker 2: spot on Chah. That's a great read. That's the first
- 22:46Speaker 2: call i'd make.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Like the guy is lockdown confident who just makes
- 22:52Speaker 1: big play after big play and is so smart on
- 22:57Speaker 1: the ball he changes the dead for you in the
- 23:01Speaker 1: defensive backfield. Think about how good you know? I think
- 23:04Speaker 1: the jury is still out on Derek Stingley Junior. He
- 23:07Speaker 1: did have five picks last year, But you know, I
- 23:10Speaker 1: think when you're getting thrown on a lot, it's it's
- 23:13Speaker 1: easier to pick the ball off. And so is he good?
- 23:19Speaker 1: Is he just getting taken advantage of? And he happens
- 23:21Speaker 1: to be a have good enough ball skills to get there.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But you get lugerious neat on that team. All of
- 23:27Speaker 1: a sudden, you've got like legit edge rush, legit quarterback,
- 23:35Speaker 1: legit cornerback who is locking people down that team all
- 23:41Speaker 1: of a sudden has a window that is wide open
- 23:44Speaker 1: for four years. They got to they get they get
- 23:47Speaker 1: a great defensive back. That's a that's a tough team.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think again they're going to break the
- 23:54Speaker 2: model because to me, they're a team that I expect
- 23:57Speaker 2: them to get smacked next year. They got a first
- 23:59Speaker 2: place schedule, which means they got to go play the Bills,
- 24:02Speaker 2: they gotta go play the Chiefs, they gotta go play
- 24:03Speaker 2: the Ravens. That's really tough. But like you just said,
- 24:07Speaker 2: they're the rare team that they got the money. They
- 24:09Speaker 2: can maybe make it, make manage it where they can
- 24:11Speaker 2: add the players and they can still be a great team.
- 24:15Speaker 2: It's just gonna be really tough with that first place schedule. Uh.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You mentioned the Patriots potentially moving down getting McCarthy, Do
- 24:29Speaker 1: they take Drake May A lot of conversation about Marvin
- 24:35Speaker 1: Harrison Junior, who's not going to be running at the
- 24:42Speaker 1: at Pro Day. What are you hearing right now? This
- 24:51Speaker 1: is this is the window. Let me rephrase, this is
- 24:54Speaker 1: the window where all the speculation begins, where all of
- 25:00Speaker 1: the rationale of all the quarterback conversations we've had for
- 25:05Speaker 1: the past few years. You know, whether it was Oh
- 25:12Speaker 1: my god, I just forgot his name, the kid from
- 25:15Speaker 1: Alabama who's already washed out in New England.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Oh, Mac mac Jones, mac Jones.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Right, mac Jones going number three. We're like, that makes
- 25:23Speaker 1: no sense. He's not going to go number three. Or
- 25:26Speaker 1: last year when the Panthers decide they're taking Bryce Young
- 25:30Speaker 1: and we're like, this makes no sense. It's not pee
- 25:33Speaker 1: wee football. But what happens is people all of a
- 25:36Speaker 1: sudden get more and more excited about raw talent that
- 25:39Speaker 1: they see out of pads, and they forget what they're
- 25:41Speaker 1: seeing on film. JJ McCarthy, Jayden Daniels, Drake May, from
- 25:50Speaker 1: what you've seen so far, what you're hearing so far,
- 25:54Speaker 1: how do you think this lands?
- 25:56Speaker 2: And I'll start by saying this, I love this class
- 25:58Speaker 2: because all these guys have played it ton there's a
- 26:00Speaker 2: ton of film, and all these guys were last year
- 26:03Speaker 2: didn't really have that, especially Anthony Richardson. It's nice when
- 26:06Speaker 2: you get guys who play a ton of football, and
- 26:10Speaker 2: it's shocking. I went into this thinking Drake May was
- 26:12Speaker 2: gonna be my slam dunk number two. I loved him
- 26:15Speaker 2: coming into last season. I thought he played pretty well
- 26:17Speaker 2: for not that great of a team. But yeah, this
- 26:20Speaker 2: Jayden Daniels kid, he's just special, Like there's something about him,
- 26:24Speaker 2: especially seeing that he improved so much these last two seasons,
- 26:28Speaker 2: where clearly he can be coached, and that's a big
- 26:32Speaker 2: deal in football that people can be coached. And Drake
- 26:36Speaker 2: May is the better prospect right now, so I would
- 26:38Speaker 2: not be shocked to see him go number two at Washington.
- 26:41Speaker 2: But I think people are gonna see more and more
- 26:43Speaker 2: mocks and more people after this combine week talking about
- 26:46Speaker 2: Jaye and Daniels being the number two pick, and it stinks.
- 26:49Speaker 2: The books are already kind of ahead of it. Like
- 26:50Speaker 2: I've been looking around chat. I think plus one fifty
- 26:53Speaker 2: is the best thing I could find for him going
- 26:55Speaker 2: to Washington. The Jaden Daniels pick, which is still good,
- 26:57Speaker 2: but I thought it'd be a little better, just because
- 26:59Speaker 2: the Drake May hype was so insane all season. You know,
- 27:04Speaker 2: looking at the future of the NFL, we've seen a shift.
- 27:08Speaker 2: We've seen a shift that they want to get quarterbacks
- 27:11Speaker 2: that can use their feet as a weapon. And if
- 27:14Speaker 2: you're a team in Washington that has a horrible offensive line,
- 27:17Speaker 2: do you want to get the Herbert type, which what
- 27:19Speaker 2: Drake That's exactly what Drake May is. I don't know
- 27:22Speaker 2: if I do. Like I know it's kind of lazy
- 27:25Speaker 2: because he went to LSU, but Daniels reminds me of
- 27:30Speaker 2: Joe Burrow the way he moves and all that is
- 27:34Speaker 2: obviously different because he's such an athletic runner. But right now,
- 27:38Speaker 2: Daniel's biggest weakness, which is not like Joe Burrow, is
- 27:41Speaker 2: he's not great at being in the pocket, having pocket awareness.
- 27:44Speaker 2: So there are some red flags obviously with him. But
- 27:48Speaker 2: it's a big decision that Washington has to make here
- 27:50Speaker 2: because I just feel like one of these two are
- 27:53Speaker 2: going to work out, Like both of them have really
- 27:55Speaker 2: good upside if they get the right coaching. I could
- 27:58Speaker 2: see Drake workout, I could see Daniel's workout, like they
- 28:02Speaker 2: both are incredible prospects. You know, Drake May people talked
- 28:08Speaker 2: about it. He would probably be the Num. One pick
- 28:09Speaker 2: right if if there was no Williams. I don't know.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I think Daniels played well enough these last two years
- 28:15Speaker 2: where he could put himself in that position, So it's
- 28:19Speaker 2: interesting he's not thrown at the combine Daniels already said
- 28:21Speaker 2: he's not going to He's gonna wait for his pro day.
- 28:25Speaker 2: You know, maybe in his mind the information he's getting
- 28:28Speaker 2: is telling him he doesn't need to. You know, he
- 28:30Speaker 2: mentioned his name. I just don't want to jump around
- 28:32Speaker 2: too much. For Marvin Harris Junior. He passed on having
- 28:35Speaker 2: an agent. I believe Williams did as well. So it's
- 28:40Speaker 2: interesting where the combine is a big deal in the
- 28:43Speaker 2: football world. Like a lot of trades, A lot of
- 28:45Speaker 2: stuff happens this weekend. Like I think Fields if he
- 28:48Speaker 2: has trade, I think he'll be traded at this combine,
- 28:52Speaker 2: Like they'll set up a trade in place and that's
- 28:53Speaker 2: when the deal will get done. So yeah, this this
- 28:58Speaker 2: QB class is incredible. But JJ McCarthy again, we can
- 29:02Speaker 2: talk about it more as we go along here. I
- 29:04Speaker 2: really wanted to focus on the other two guys because
- 29:06Speaker 2: I do think they're the fight for the number two pick.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I don't think JJ, even if he had an incredible combine,
- 29:12Speaker 2: I don't know if he can move ahead of those two,
- 29:13Speaker 2: just because we have so many of their throws on tape.
- 29:17Speaker 2: JJ did not throw the ball enough and Harbow's offense,
- 29:19Speaker 2: he just didn't. They were just were not that type
- 29:21Speaker 2: of team, so that that hurts him honestly, like he
- 29:25Speaker 2: could be a better prospect than both of them. I
- 29:27Speaker 2: just have so many more throws on film of those guys,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and I know exactly what they are, like, I really do.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Where that's rare coming out a lot of these guys
- 29:36Speaker 2: coming out because of COVID. They all played three four years,
- 29:39Speaker 2: So I have a lot of film and a lot
- 29:40Speaker 2: of these guys, which is rare for coming out of
- 29:43Speaker 2: college drafts.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Todd mcshae tweeted either yesterday or today that he has
- 29:49Speaker 1: two takeaways from his convos with teams in the past week. One,
- 29:56Speaker 1: so much more love for Jaden Daniels amongst teams than
- 30:00Speaker 1: in the media. And this is when it's acquisition season.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It's also crazy season, right where everybody starts falling in
- 30:09Speaker 1: love and we all do it. You fall in love
- 30:12Speaker 1: with games, you fall in love with teams. You think
- 30:14Speaker 1: you're seeing something that nobody else can see, you blind
- 30:18Speaker 1: to all the negatives for whatever. But I could easily
- 30:23Speaker 1: see Jaden Daniels going number two as more and more.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Look we saw last year with Anthony Richardson right, Anthony
- 30:30Speaker 1: richardson Hype and you were ahead of this, Anthony richardson Hype,
- 30:33Speaker 1: Bill Bill Bill. All of a sudden, this guy who
- 30:35Speaker 1: had started basically one season in Florida became a top
- 30:39Speaker 1: five pick out of nowhere. Jadan Daniels obviously is not
- 30:43Speaker 1: coming out of nowhere, but the consensus has been Caleb
- 30:45Speaker 1: Williams and Drake May Jade and Daniels at number two
- 30:49Speaker 1: at plus one point fifty, take a piece of it.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I'm already there with you where I bet it where
- 30:56Speaker 2: we'll see, right, there's always there's always to be a shift,
- 30:59Speaker 2: or after the combine or after their pro day, we'll
- 31:01Speaker 2: really kind of know, right, that's when numbers really start shifting.
- 31:04Speaker 2: But like I feel like you're saying one exactly what
- 31:06Speaker 2: I'm thinking here. It's like, you know, I don't think
- 31:09Speaker 2: they're that far apart as the media is making them
- 31:10Speaker 2: out to me. I could easily see Daniels being minus
- 31:13Speaker 2: one fifty this time next week. So, like you said,
- 31:16Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get ahead of it. Obviously, can't
- 31:18Speaker 2: get that much money down on it, but happy to
- 31:20Speaker 2: grab the plus one twenty five plus one fifty if
- 31:22Speaker 2: you can find it.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah NFL Network says the Commanders should take Drake
- 31:27Speaker 1: May number two. Merril Hodge, who famously said he wouldn't
- 31:31Speaker 1: even take Johnny Manziel I think in the first couple
- 31:35Speaker 1: of rounds, says he wouldn't take Drake May in the
- 31:39Speaker 1: first round. So that's where we are at this point.
- 31:43Speaker 1: That's aggressive no draft evaluation.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And Joe Klatt, who I really respect, he is very
- 31:52Speaker 2: high on Drake May and he talked about it there
- 31:57Speaker 2: being a big gap between him and Daniels, and I
- 32:00Speaker 2: just have not seen it when I've broken down the
- 32:02Speaker 2: film where it's like Daniels clearly gets better when he
- 32:05Speaker 2: is good coaching, and that's what happened this past season.
- 32:08Speaker 2: He took a big step. So yeah, just for me,
- 32:11Speaker 2: I think he's a better fit for Washington because of
- 32:14Speaker 2: their offensive line struggles that I think he would have
- 32:16Speaker 2: a better time step in with Drake May. I could
- 32:18Speaker 2: just see him get eaten a lot of the NFC
- 32:20Speaker 2: East not being able to move around. I mean, he
- 32:22Speaker 2: does have wheels, but I've seen nothing close to Daniels.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Jadane Daniels number two plus one fifty Simon, can you
- 32:28Speaker 1: name the fastest growing ticketing app in the United.
- 32:31Speaker 2: States game Time.
- 32:34Speaker 1: That's right, it's game Time. I love Game Time for
- 32:36Speaker 1: two reasons. First, they still sponsor this show. Second, I
- 32:39Speaker 1: actually use game Time all the time. They have last amazing,
- 32:41Speaker 1: last minute deals for pro and college sports. Speaking of which,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I'm using the game Time app right now from my
- 32:48Speaker 1: house here in Connecticut. And guess what I can get
- 32:51Speaker 1: in to see the New York Nicrobockers tonight for less
- 32:56Speaker 1: than one hundred dollars at Madison Square Garden. And that's right.
- 33:00Speaker 1: No matter where you live, download the game Time app,
- 33:02Speaker 1: get out, have some phone this week. You deserve it.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You can redeem code favorites for twenty dollars off your
- 33:07Speaker 1: first purchase. Terms apply again. Just download the game Time
- 33:09Speaker 1: app and use code favorites for twenty dollars off your
- 33:12Speaker 1: first purchase. Last minute tickets, lowest prices. Gah Ron tied
- 33:17Speaker 1: all right. Franchise tagging not tagging has begun. No franchise
- 33:26Speaker 1: tags for a bevy of running backs. Saquon no franchise tag,
- 33:33Speaker 1: Josh Jacobs, no franchise tag, Tony Poler, no franchise tag,
- 33:37Speaker 1: Austin Eckler, no franchise tag, Derek Henry. No franchise tag.
- 33:43Speaker 1: The franchise tag that does make some noise. T Higgins
- 33:47Speaker 1: getting franchise tagged by Cincy. I'll make a statement right now, Simon.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals consensus fourteen fifteen to one to win the
- 34:00Speaker 1: Super Bowl. The Cincinnati Bengals are the biggest threat to
- 34:05Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC and to their
- 34:09Speaker 1: dominance and to their chance to repeat in twenty twenty four.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Love it, love it at that number as well. So
- 34:18Speaker 2: we talked about it last week. They're just this is
- 34:20Speaker 2: this is this season for them. Everything everything is lined
- 34:23Speaker 2: up perfectly for them. They have the last place schedule,
- 34:27Speaker 2: they have all the players still as if you know,
- 34:30Speaker 2: Joe Brow hasn't been paid yet. Now they just got
- 34:32Speaker 2: a thirty million bump in the Caps. It's just it's
- 34:35Speaker 2: all lined up for this Bengals team. And we believe,
- 34:37Speaker 2: you know, even last year when they had a backup,
- 34:39Speaker 2: they still finished with a winning record. Like clearly they
- 34:41Speaker 2: have good coaching and despite tons of injuries, like you said,
- 34:45Speaker 2: to the defensive side, they still had a winning record.
- 34:47Speaker 2: So it's clearly a team that plays hard, knows how
- 34:50Speaker 2: to be coached up right, and you know the fact
- 34:52Speaker 2: that we're getting them in a little bit of a discount.
- 34:55Speaker 2: It feels like, right, if Joe didn't get hurt, and
- 34:57Speaker 2: if you want a playoff game, what would they be
- 35:00Speaker 2: nine to one, ten to one. So it goes a
- 35:01Speaker 2: we again, an extra plus five hundred year just because
- 35:04Speaker 2: Joe's coming off an injury, which you know, he says
- 35:07Speaker 2: he's good to go right now, like he's been working
- 35:08Speaker 2: out full bore, so he clearly bounced back from that injury.
- 35:12Speaker 2: They'd take him the whole off season.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it kind of doesn't make sense to me. We're
- 35:16Speaker 1: looking at the Chiefs obviously right behind the Niners. I'm
- 35:19Speaker 1: looking at it right now about six to one, Niners
- 35:22Speaker 1: five to one, Ravens nine to one, Bills ten to one,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and then the Bengals at fourteen to one, fifteen to one.
- 35:31Speaker 1: This is the same team that a season ago we
- 35:34Speaker 1: were talking about owning Patrick Mahomes, right, and they had
- 35:40Speaker 1: a defense with lou Anarumo that is clearly knows how
- 35:45Speaker 1: to match up with the Chiefs. It's the only defense
- 35:48Speaker 1: that has consistently been able to match up and confound
- 35:53Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow is the quarterback who can
- 35:56Speaker 1: beat him. He does not blink in these and they
- 36:01Speaker 1: just had a down year. They all got hurt, and
- 36:04Speaker 1: there's such recency bias in the NFL that you kind
- 36:07Speaker 1: of forget about that, and all of a sudden, like
- 36:10Speaker 1: they're the team that's been dropping. That last play schedule
- 36:14Speaker 1: thing is a big deal, a really big deal when
- 36:16Speaker 1: you're playing when you're a team that could have won
- 36:18Speaker 1: the AFC North, which is the best division of football,
- 36:21Speaker 1: and all of a sudden you're playing the teams that
- 36:24Speaker 1: ended up the worst in football. That's a game changer
- 36:27Speaker 1: for me. They're going to be an interesting team to
- 36:29Speaker 1: make a lot of futures bets on as we get
- 36:32Speaker 1: closer to the year.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and it all works out as well, where like
- 36:38Speaker 2: you said, they match up really well against this Chiefs
- 36:40Speaker 2: team historically, like since Joe's coming to the league, he's
- 36:43Speaker 2: played him better than any other quarterback on football. And
- 36:46Speaker 2: you know, they're not scared of them. A lot of
- 36:47Speaker 2: teams in that division, especially the Conference AFC, they're scared
- 36:51Speaker 2: of that team, and this team is not. They have
- 36:53Speaker 2: the swagger for it. So yeah, the last play schedule chat,
- 36:56Speaker 2: like you said, it's a big deal when you get
- 36:57Speaker 2: to play New England and Tennessee rather than playing the
- 37:02Speaker 2: top tier teams. But I do think their odds chat
- 37:04Speaker 2: are low, lower than they should be just because of
- 37:06Speaker 2: their division, right, Like that's a They're in such a
- 37:09Speaker 2: hard division, that's why it is what it is. But
- 37:12Speaker 2: we saw these last couple of years. There was a
- 37:14Speaker 2: reason they were the first repeat team in forever in
- 37:16Speaker 2: this division. It's like they were really talented. We talked
- 37:20Speaker 2: last season, you need so much luck to win divisions
- 37:24Speaker 2: and football, right, just health is the biggest one, and
- 37:27Speaker 2: we saw it last year. There was no it was
- 37:28Speaker 2: all built in. The Bengals were a bad bet last
- 37:31Speaker 2: year just because their value was so high. You're exactly
- 37:34Speaker 2: right now now it's a nice by low spot, just
- 37:36Speaker 2: like the Rams were. Like both these teams played each
- 37:38Speaker 2: other in Super Bowl two years ago and last year
- 37:40Speaker 2: people left the Rams were dead, which was stupid, and
- 37:43Speaker 2: it feels like they're doing the same year with the Bengals.
- 37:45Speaker 2: So I'm in complete agreeens when they ever they opened
- 37:47Speaker 2: up the division odds. Finally, I'm definitely my first bets
- 37:50Speaker 2: on MAKEU is the Bengals to win the North.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I'm looking at the Bengals right now, and don't forget.
- 37:56Speaker 1: They beat the Seahawks, who at that time we're a
- 38:00Speaker 1: team that was on the make. They beat the Rams,
- 38:04Speaker 1: they beat the Bills, they beat the Niners, like they
- 38:10Speaker 1: barely lost to the Texans in a game they should
- 38:13Speaker 1: have won. They beat the Jags, they beat the Vikings,
- 38:19Speaker 1: they beat the Colts, like, come on.
- 38:23Speaker 2: No, they're a good team. And it's what we always
- 38:27Speaker 2: talk about. We're trying to buy a lot on teams
- 38:30Speaker 2: that people just aren't looking at anymore because they're not
- 38:32Speaker 2: the sexy team from last year. And that's what usually
- 38:35Speaker 2: people do, right They bet off what they remember happening
- 38:37Speaker 2: at the end of towards last season. So yeah, I
- 38:40Speaker 2: bet you buy September. This is probably down at twelve
- 38:43Speaker 2: to one.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Well, time to buy it now. Then it's not going
- 38:46Speaker 1: to get It's not going to get like longer. You know,
- 38:51Speaker 1: they're not going to go from fifteen to one to
- 38:52Speaker 1: twenty one. So if you like it, you might as
- 38:54Speaker 1: well buy it now. In fact, I'm going to today
- 38:58Speaker 1: exactly what I'm going to do. Last week we talked
- 39:01Speaker 1: a little bit about it. I feel like we're doing
- 39:03Speaker 1: exactly what I just said, which is all of a sudden,
- 39:07Speaker 1: we've convinced ourselves it's the Cincinnati Bengals are the Jaden
- 39:10Speaker 1: Daniels of the twenty twenty four NFL season, and we're
- 39:14Speaker 1: seeing something right now nobody else is seeing. We are
- 39:17Speaker 1: blind to any faults or any consequences. That's what we're doing.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I mean, pros have been talking about this. I think
- 39:25Speaker 2: a lot of pros. The first thing they look at
- 39:27Speaker 2: at what teams came in last place in their division. Honestly,
- 39:30Speaker 2: that's one of the first things I go to when
- 39:32Speaker 2: the regular season ends. It's like, how do we project
- 39:34Speaker 2: down and envision these teams next following season? Are we
- 39:37Speaker 2: getting good value? And you know, people remember I was
- 39:40Speaker 2: way too high on the Bears, but I was equally
- 39:43Speaker 2: way too high in the Rams, Like I was all
- 39:45Speaker 2: in on them just because I realized they were playing
- 39:47Speaker 2: a last place schedule and they had an incredible quarterback.
- 39:51Speaker 2: And we talk all the time of football, if you
- 39:52Speaker 2: get an easy schedule with the right quarterback's it really
- 39:56Speaker 2: is that simple sometimes, like it really is all about
- 39:58Speaker 2: the matchups, and that that's why the fourth place schedule
- 40:00Speaker 2: is such a big team because you're not playing against
- 40:02Speaker 2: these incredible stud quarterbacks. You're usually playing against journeymen or
- 40:06Speaker 2: first or second year qbs here. So we talk all
- 40:09Speaker 2: the time, what's the first things I look for that
- 40:12Speaker 2: it's the right there. I'm always looking for these teams
- 40:13Speaker 2: that came and fourth, that we know they have a
- 40:15Speaker 2: ton of talent, they just had a bunch of injuries
- 40:17Speaker 2: the year before. The Bengals jump right out. I mean,
- 40:20Speaker 2: rarely do I get to bet on a team that
- 40:22Speaker 2: came a fourth in the division that had a winning record.
- 40:24Speaker 2: This might be the first time ever. So yeah, definitely interesting.
- 40:27Speaker 2: We're saying we're buying loan a nine to eighteen.
- 40:30Speaker 1: It's almost unfair to call them the last place team,
- 40:32Speaker 1: to be honest, it really is. It's silly. Can any
- 40:36Speaker 1: of these running backs make a difference for anybody? Is
- 40:40Speaker 1: there any team right now that is a good running
- 40:45Speaker 1: game away, a consistent running game away from taking that
- 40:49Speaker 1: next step?
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I said, Houston would be great if they
- 40:53Speaker 2: got Barkley. But it's just we're not getting the McCaffrey
- 40:59Speaker 2: with you know, one of the greatest running back minds
- 41:02Speaker 2: in Shanahan. Like, it's just it's a devalued position. I
- 41:07Speaker 2: talk all the time about this that the smartest teams
- 41:11Speaker 2: who are ahead of the curve were the teams that
- 41:14Speaker 2: realized how devalued the running back position was and barely
- 41:19Speaker 2: put any money into the position. And those are the
- 41:21Speaker 2: teams that has really worked out for over the couple,
- 41:24Speaker 2: you know, ten to fifteen years. So I don't know,
- 41:29Speaker 2: chaed Like, I'm looking at these free agents and yeah,
- 41:32Speaker 2: they're all really talented, but you know, there's a couple
- 41:34Speaker 2: of guys come out of draft that are pretty good
- 41:36Speaker 2: as well, and you can pay them one fifth or
- 41:39Speaker 2: one one third of what these guys are going to
- 41:42Speaker 2: make top market. I mean, Barkley's gonna be out of
- 41:44Speaker 2: the sport how much he's going to ask for. So yeah,
- 41:47Speaker 2: if the team like Houston is all that extra money
- 41:48Speaker 2: laying around, I understand when they've gone and do it.
- 41:51Speaker 2: I just we just see a time and time again.
- 41:53Speaker 2: It's just there's so many talented guys out there you
- 41:56Speaker 2: really don't need to I mean, most are you know
- 42:00Speaker 2: who broke miami Is rushing touchdown record last year? You
- 42:03Speaker 2: could have got him for a couple of dollars. They
- 42:05Speaker 2: were trying to trade him before the season started. So
- 42:08Speaker 2: that's my issue. It's like there are front names that
- 42:11Speaker 2: all these guys have had excellent years, and no doubt
- 42:15Speaker 2: Barkley's still in his prime right now. He's still a
- 42:17Speaker 2: great running back. It's just my GM mindset and how
- 42:21Speaker 2: I manage money. I just would never pay him what
- 42:22Speaker 2: he's looking for. It's just not worth a ten any team.
- 42:24Speaker 2: But for any team he would be an up huge
- 42:26Speaker 2: upgrade too. Definitely Houston, like he's incredible out of the
- 42:29Speaker 2: back of what everything he does is so good. So yeah,
- 42:32Speaker 2: that's a fun idea. But no, no running backs even
- 42:35Speaker 2: like people are like, oh, don't you want the Eagles
- 42:36Speaker 2: to get Derrick Henry. He does nothing for him. My
- 42:39Speaker 2: offensive line can't block. The guy needs to get blockers
- 42:41Speaker 2: to get the legs moving. So yeah, this running back
- 42:45Speaker 2: classic really doesn't do much for me.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And even the teams that could potentially be looking for
- 42:51Speaker 1: a running back, say the Ravens right who had running
- 42:56Speaker 1: back by committee and don't.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Have no money.
- 42:58Speaker 1: They don't have the money, Cowboys don't have the money,
- 43:01Speaker 1: The Chargers don't have the money. Like teams that are
- 43:05Speaker 1: theoretically close have almost no cap space from less than
- 43:11Speaker 1: ten million to negative twenty five million on the Chargers. Like,
- 43:15Speaker 1: it's a really interesting spot for some of these guys.
- 43:17Speaker 1: They're not going to find a market that is hospitable
- 43:21Speaker 1: to paying them what they think they're worth.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Like and if we're playing mad and yeah, Barkley
- 43:28Speaker 2: to the Ravens is really fun, great idea. In real life,
- 43:31Speaker 2: it'd be really stupid for them. They've had one of
- 43:34Speaker 2: the best running back groups for years with guys like
- 43:37Speaker 2: the Gus bus Like Gus Edwards, they made him do
- 43:40Speaker 2: a good running back like they don't They're just a
- 43:41Speaker 2: team that doesn't really need to do that. So yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 2: the Ravens, they're about that to pay a bunch of
- 43:48Speaker 2: guys on their defensive side. They don't have the money
- 43:49Speaker 2: really be spending at their running back position. So yeah,
- 43:52Speaker 2: they're in a tough spot the Ravens at that Barkley
- 43:54Speaker 2: would be if they did it, would that would be
- 43:56Speaker 2: really fun him and Lamar sharing a backfield together. I
- 43:59Speaker 2: would love that, But money wise, I don't see how
- 44:01Speaker 2: they make it work.
- 44:02Speaker 1: By the way, maybe if the Ravens had given Gus
- 44:04Speaker 1: ed Was the ball two more times, they might have
- 44:09Speaker 1: advanced in the playoffs instead of going home early and
- 44:12Speaker 1: being disappointed and ruining Lamar Jackson's MVP season. And also
- 44:16Speaker 1: we would have won our Lamar Jackson over forty one
- 44:20Speaker 1: and a half rushing yards in that game.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I gudge. If they're paying Bartley fifteen million dollars
- 44:25Speaker 2: and he gets three touches in the AFC Championship game,
- 44:29Speaker 2: I think people would be losing their.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Minds, losing their minds. We were losing our minds when
- 44:34Speaker 1: Gus Edwards wasn't getting the ball a second time and
- 44:37Speaker 1: we had over forty and a half rushing yards or
- 44:39Speaker 1: whatever it was. Simon, let's talk about our sponsor. Factor.

- 46:03Speaker 1: we're talking a little bit about betting draft markets here.
- 46:06Speaker 1: We talked about Jayden Daniels at plus one fifty. Give
- 46:09Speaker 1: me your take right now I'm betting the draft and
- 46:11Speaker 1: how it's changed in recent years. Are there more markets,
- 46:14Speaker 1: are they more operators the stuff available earlier? Give me
- 46:20Speaker 1: your take on how it's all changed as betting has exploded.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Definitely gotten easier about on the draft because there's so
- 46:27Speaker 2: many more books taking money on the draft. But usually
- 46:32Speaker 2: you know, the only thing they're gonna let you bet
- 46:33Speaker 2: on in December, January, February, Like now is the quarterback position,
- 46:38Speaker 2: Like the first couple picks, there's a couple of quarterbacks though.
- 46:41Speaker 2: They're happy to take money on that stuff because people
- 46:43Speaker 2: like betting quarterbacks and it's fun. You know that year
- 46:47Speaker 2: we had with Kenny Pickett and all those guys, you know, Ritter, Like,
- 46:53Speaker 2: the books weren't taking anything on the draft, it felt
- 46:56Speaker 2: like at all until February, and that was because you know,
- 47:00Speaker 2: I think Aiden Hutchinson was the guy that was really
- 47:02Speaker 2: being bet to be the number one pick and yet
- 47:04Speaker 2: not even being the number one pick. So yeah, the
- 47:06Speaker 2: books just don't want a ton of exposure. Yeah, the draft,
- 47:13Speaker 2: not that I think it's ever going to die out,
- 47:15Speaker 2: but I always think will be what it is now,
- 47:17Speaker 2: which is they're just not going to take a lot
- 47:19Speaker 2: of bets. Like for me to get a ton of
- 47:21Speaker 2: money down, I had to bet almost every day at
- 47:24Speaker 2: multiple different books just to get a nice amount down
- 47:27Speaker 2: on the draft. So that's what I'll bet Now, I'll
- 47:30Speaker 2: bet rumors I'm here and try to get ahead of
- 47:33Speaker 2: the general public and the books without bringing too much
- 47:35Speaker 2: attention to myself. So you know, that's that's one of
- 47:39Speaker 2: the harder things to do at this time here. You
- 47:40Speaker 2: just don't want the book to know that you have
- 47:42Speaker 2: an edge and get caught in a bet. But yeah,
- 47:46Speaker 2: for right now, I can't really do much other than
- 47:48Speaker 2: betting the quarterbacks what we talked about. So, yeah, Daniels,
- 47:51Speaker 2: I've taken a position on him to be the number
- 47:53Speaker 2: two quarterback. Could have that on my face in a
- 47:56Speaker 2: week from now, where you know, Drake may test out
- 47:59Speaker 2: and he incredible in shorts. Teams can talk to themselves
- 48:03Speaker 2: into that stuff. So that's that's the fun thing about
- 48:06Speaker 2: this draft is I do think, you know, more and
- 48:12Speaker 2: more people are gonna start coming around on Daniels as
- 48:14Speaker 2: we get closer to the draft because the things I've
- 48:17Speaker 2: seen from Drake may like guys they talked to scout's
- 48:19Speaker 2: in the league, they think he has a slow release
- 48:22Speaker 2: and that he's got to change his release. That's a
- 48:24Speaker 2: big deal. Like those guys I know he's working with.
- 48:27Speaker 2: I believe Philip Rivers and a couple other guys right
- 48:29Speaker 2: now who have unique styles of throwing. Right, remember how
- 48:32Speaker 2: Philip Rivers had that weird throw. Yeah, he had a quick,
- 48:34Speaker 2: gass release. Though, like it was just a along gate.
- 48:36Speaker 2: It took him a long time to get there, but
- 48:38Speaker 2: once he got his arm up, it was a quick release.
- 48:40Speaker 2: That's why they never made him change it. No way
- 48:43Speaker 2: in the NFL with a team ever allow another Philip Rivers.
- 48:46Speaker 2: No one had ever let someone to throw the ball
- 48:48Speaker 2: the way he threw it that style. It's all become
- 48:50Speaker 2: very robotic. So yeah, if he works with the guy
- 48:54Speaker 2: this offseason, they fix it before his Pro Day, or
- 48:58Speaker 2: him thrown the combine this week, he could easily lock
- 49:01Speaker 2: him into be the number two thing. But the Washington
- 49:05Speaker 2: I think I think they might. There's a path for them.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Fun in love with Daniels and that's why we've seen
- 49:09Speaker 2: this number come down so much. Jed. So, Yeah, this
- 49:14Speaker 2: this draft is really fun just because we do have
- 49:16Speaker 2: so many quarterbacks to talk about. Like you even like
- 49:18Speaker 2: the JJ McCarthy thing. He's a huge sleeper that the
- 49:21Speaker 2: Patriots could take him at number three and I wouldn't
- 49:24Speaker 2: all be that shocked just because people do love him.
- 49:26Speaker 2: He just doesn't have that many throws on tape. So
- 49:30Speaker 2: that's what makes these drafts so fun is when we
- 49:31Speaker 2: have quarterback drafts like this, like the worst drafts ever,
- 49:34Speaker 2: or when we're talking about Aden Hutchinson for two months
- 49:36Speaker 2: Jed So, I love this. I love breaking down film,
- 49:40Speaker 2: especially a class like this where you got guys who
- 49:42Speaker 2: have played, you know, fifty games in college, which is
- 49:45Speaker 2: very rare nowadays. It's just been really fun breaking all
- 49:48Speaker 2: these guys down.
- 49:49Speaker 1: How do we manage for the next couple of weeks
- 49:52Speaker 1: until free agency comes? Between now and then, what should
- 49:58Speaker 1: we be doing right now? What should people listening be
- 50:01Speaker 1: doing right now to take advantage? Are we betting rumors?
- 50:05Speaker 1: Is it small tastes? How do we manage these next
- 50:08Speaker 1: two weeks?
- 50:09Speaker 2: You can, like I said, combine is when we really
- 50:11Speaker 2: start getting ramped up here. Me personally, I will do
- 50:16Speaker 2: all the same things you guys can all do, which
- 50:18Speaker 2: is listen to all the different podcasts, listen to all
- 50:20Speaker 2: their draft people, you do trust, break things down, you
- 50:24Speaker 2: know ESPN. I'm not here at Badmouth, and I like
- 50:28Speaker 2: mel I really like Todd McShay, and Todd's moved on.
- 50:31Speaker 2: I believe he's doing stuff now with Ryan Rissillo. That's
- 50:34Speaker 2: a guy who I'm gonna be loyal to, and I'll
- 50:35Speaker 2: probably move with him. I will keep listening Todd McShay
- 50:38Speaker 2: because I do trust Todd mcshay's context. I think people
- 50:41Speaker 2: in media he is really good at what he does.
- 50:43Speaker 2: So that's something to be wary of of. There are
- 50:46Speaker 2: some people who are just storytellers and they're just having
- 50:48Speaker 2: fun in media talking about the draft, and there's other
- 50:50Speaker 2: guys who really do put in the legwork, make the calls,
- 50:53Speaker 2: and they're finding out what these teams are gonna do.
- 50:55Speaker 2: That is a big advantage. So yeah, for everyone, I
- 50:58Speaker 2: just say be a sponge and if you're addicted to
- 51:00Speaker 2: this stuff, like I love the draft and all the
- 51:02Speaker 2: numbers and stuff, just soak it all in and then
- 51:04Speaker 2: at the end of the day you are forming your
- 51:06Speaker 2: own opinion. Right, I'm not always gonna be right. I
- 51:08Speaker 2: was way wrong on my opinion on Bryce Young. I
- 51:11Speaker 2: just never saw him being the first pick overall. That
- 51:14Speaker 2: was just me having a different view of clearly the
- 51:17Speaker 2: owner of the Carolina Panthers. So that's something always be
- 51:20Speaker 2: wary of of. Just because you think Drake may is
- 51:24Speaker 2: by far the best court there is a better quarterback
- 51:26Speaker 2: than Daniels, doesn't mean the Washington A lot of other
- 51:29Speaker 2: scouts like myself are going to agree with that. So
- 51:32Speaker 2: that is something where you can't just be so defined
- 51:34Speaker 2: in your own opinion. Something I regret from last year
- 51:37Speaker 2: I which I wasn't so dug in on my Bryce
- 51:39Speaker 2: Young opinion. I should have been more flexible. So this year,
- 51:42Speaker 2: I do love Daniels, but it's not so much I'm indifferent.
- 51:47Speaker 2: If they take May great if they take Daniels. I
- 51:49Speaker 2: don't think Washington can make a wrong decision here, but
- 51:52Speaker 2: in five years from now, we'll judge them as if
- 51:54Speaker 2: they did make a wrong decision. That's that's the tough part.
- 51:57Speaker 1: So when we were at the Super Bowl, there was
- 51:59Speaker 1: a dinner one and I was like, I don't know,
- 52:03Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty people and it was very It
- 52:06Speaker 1: was a small room, like it was an intimate thing,
- 52:09Speaker 1: and David Tepper happened to be there, and you know,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I was within the way the crowd was set up.
- 52:19Speaker 1: You could easily go up to anybody, talk to anybody
- 52:22Speaker 1: at any time. It was a lot of floating and
- 52:24Speaker 1: like my table happened to be one table over from his,
- 52:29Speaker 1: And all I want to do is say grace. You know, really,
- 52:34Speaker 1: that's that's what you're taking your franchise on. I didn't
- 52:37Speaker 1: do it. I didn't feel like the time now.
- 52:40Speaker 2: With a cycle like that, he would have probably grabbed
- 52:42Speaker 2: you by the neck in front of everyone, the guys exactly.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I didn't want to make a scene, yeah, Simon, I
- 52:49Speaker 1: was just happy to be there. I didn't want to
- 52:50Speaker 1: be the guy getting kicked out and not came invited again.
