- 0:00Speaker 1: With that being said, another man who has been shoveling
- 0:03Speaker 1: is Jeff Mosher, and he joins US now for Football
- 0:06Speaker 1: on four powered by the Inside the Birds podcasts Inside
- 0:08Speaker 1: the Birds dot Com. As you know, this is a
- 0:12Speaker 1: very interesting week because this is in many ways the
- 0:15Speaker 1: real start of the NFL offseason, Jeff, because Jeff, this
- 0:20Speaker 1: week is Combine week in Indianapolis.
- 0:23Speaker 2: How you doing good?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Who would have thought that people in New Jersey would
- 0:28Speaker 3: be shoveling more snow than people out in the Combine.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I know it's cold out in Indianapolis, but my gosh,
- 0:34Speaker 3: ah man, by the way, I do think you probably,
- 0:37Speaker 3: having just gotten in from shoveling myself, I think you
- 0:40Speaker 3: made the right move because from what I could tell,
- 0:43Speaker 3: the bottom layer it must have been like the first
- 0:45Speaker 3: wave of snow is a very heavy, heavywet snow.
- 0:48Speaker 4: The top layer was a lot fluffier.
- 0:50Speaker 3: So if you got rid of that heavy snow last
- 0:53Speaker 3: night and then just had fluffier snow today, might have
- 0:55Speaker 3: been able to use a snowblow and I couldn't do that.
- 0:57Speaker 4: But yeah, I think you might have helped yourself.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I mean I know that because yesterday I was concerned
- 1:02Speaker 1: because it was all like it was rain, and then
- 1:04Speaker 1: it became snow. And I immediately was like, this bottom
- 1:09Speaker 1: layer is probably it's gonna be like ice.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's to be like, yeah, you know, disgusting.
- 1:13Speaker 1: And you know, maybe I did help myself, but it
- 1:15Speaker 1: still was almost two feet of snow. I had to
- 1:17Speaker 1: dig through from my because the the snow was like
- 1:21Speaker 1: up to like covering like the bottom steps of the
- 1:25Speaker 1: little the little front porch in front of the house.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So literally like.
- 1:28Speaker 1: My digging was digging down from the steps, creating a
- 1:32Speaker 1: little like maize, like a maze of corn, you know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: out to the bar.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I think they said this was the most since like
- 1:38Speaker 3: ninety six, right, And I remember that because I was
- 1:41Speaker 3: at Penn State. And you know, when you're when you're
- 1:42Speaker 3: at college and it snows like that, it's.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Cool snow day.
- 1:47Speaker 3: You don't have to shovel anything, you have priorities, you
- 1:49Speaker 3: don't have to worry about your job, you don't have
- 1:51Speaker 3: to worry about a family and kids, most likely, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 3: I certainly hope not.
- 1:56Speaker 4: No, I mean you never know.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I mean there were some families up there, grand students
- 1:59Speaker 3: and all, but like you know, for the most part,
- 2:01Speaker 3: you get two feet of snow or something like that. Well,
- 2:03Speaker 3: it's the greatest thing in the world today. Nowadays you
- 2:06Speaker 3: get two feet of snow and you're like, oh my god.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Now they're saying we might get another one three on Wednesday. Josh,
- 2:11Speaker 4: I can't. I can't take it. So let's talk football.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That's by the way.
- 2:15Speaker 1: In ninety six, I made a lot of money shoving
- 2:18Speaker 1: people's you know, sidewalks in ninety six in Sea Isle City.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'll just put it out there. That's what I remember
- 2:23Speaker 1: about ninety six. I remember all the money I made.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I might be willing to pay somebody by Wednesday if
- 2:31Speaker 3: we get another one to three, I might be willing
- 2:33Speaker 3: to give someone a small fortune.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Well, speaking of a small fortune, we know these guys
- 2:38Speaker 1: in the draft each year make a small.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Fortune, right, and good segue, you know.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And at the combine, what I think is interesting is
- 2:44Speaker 1: to point out to people is that it's more than
- 2:46Speaker 1: just the guys who are at the combine, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 1: running around in shorts and T shirts or in some spandex. Jeff,
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's about all the people meeting for the first time
- 2:58Speaker 1: of the off season.
- 2:59Speaker 2: You know, all the unquote non tampering tampering that's going on.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So for you, when a looking at the Eagles is offseason,
- 3:06Speaker 1: they obviously have a lot of big names that they
- 3:08Speaker 1: got to kind of figure out. And I think the
- 3:10Speaker 1: first domino to the fall that impacts the Eagles actually
- 3:13Speaker 1: happened the news earlier today, which is the story that
- 3:17Speaker 1: the Falcons are going to put the franchise tag on
- 3:20Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And that's a big news item because of the fact that.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Pitts was like the other big free agent on the
- 3:26Speaker 1: tight end market, competing with Dallas Goddard. You know, some
- 3:29Speaker 1: people thought that maybe Pitts could be a guy Philadelphia targets.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Now that the Falcon is gonna put the tag on him,
- 3:35Speaker 1: that elevates Goddard's market, does it not?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Well, first of all, let's not forget David Njoku is
- 3:43Speaker 3: a free agent, right I think, yeah, okay, and he's
- 3:47Speaker 3: really good and younger than both of them.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah, well, he's younger than Goddard. Yeah yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I mean, I know he doesn't have the greatest career,
- 3:56Speaker 3: but I think that people will take into account that
- 3:59Speaker 3: he played for the Rounds a lot of injuries, yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 3: a lot of injuries, But it's just a tremendous athlete.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I've always wondered what he would be like in a
- 4:06Speaker 3: better offense, to be honest with you, But yeah, I mean,
- 4:09Speaker 3: obviously it's always supply versus demand. So if the if
- 4:12Speaker 3: there's only three tight ends, but there's six teams that
- 4:15Speaker 3: want tight ends, then the market price theoretically goes up.
- 4:19Speaker 3: But the more when when you talk to when I
- 4:21Speaker 3: go to the combine, which I'm not doing this year, Josh.
- 4:23Speaker 4: But the one thing that when I talk.
- 4:25Speaker 3: To gms or personnel people, I think the league is
- 4:29Speaker 3: getting smarter. They're always stupid teams, They're always stupid decisions
- 4:32Speaker 3: that we can make fun of every year. But in general,
- 4:35Speaker 3: you have I think a more progressive minded class and
- 4:38Speaker 3: younger class of general managers, right, And I find that
- 4:43Speaker 3: I speak to more NFL personnel people who understand what
- 4:48Speaker 3: the market is but also understand what their budget is
- 4:51Speaker 3: and don't want to bend to overreach. You know Howie
- 4:55Speaker 3: Roseman has talked about that, I mean earlier in his
- 4:57Speaker 3: career as a GM.
- 4:58Speaker 4: A lot of mistakes, you.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Know, he makes a lot of mistakes now that but
- 5:03Speaker 3: they're one year deals, they're not over it.
- 5:05Speaker 4: They don't. They don't kill you, right, you know, And.
- 5:07Speaker 3: When he does make a mistake, like Santa Price Huff,
- 5:10Speaker 3: he's been good enough to draft and develop around it.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So I guess, in my long way of saying, just
- 5:15Speaker 3: because Kyle tag got the franchised Kyle oh Man, I
- 5:20Speaker 3: just got him from shovelin dude, all right, just because
- 5:22Speaker 3: Kyle Pitts got the franchise tag and that makes maybe
- 5:27Speaker 3: got it in a joke with the next best available
- 5:29Speaker 3: tight ends doesn't mean necessarily mean that a team is
- 5:32Speaker 3: going to want to drastically overpay. They're gonna take an
- 5:36Speaker 3: account the injuries for both, They're gonna take into account
- 5:39Speaker 3: the production.
- 5:39Speaker 4: They're gonna take into account age for Dallas Goddard.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Now, having said that, sure, there could be that one
- 5:45Speaker 3: team that you see sometimes that just spends we like
- 5:48Speaker 3: the Patriots just did a last year. They spent stupid
- 5:51Speaker 3: money to borrow a John Middleton phrase. Right, but I'm
- 5:54Speaker 3: the right people like Milton is a young upcoming player,
- 5:58Speaker 3: the cornerback they got from Allons whose name is escaping
- 6:01Speaker 3: me at the moment.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Was the Lions or was the Bucks not the Buda?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Right? Davis?
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, he was Yeah, he had some injuries, but
- 6:09Speaker 3: a very talented player. So the bottom line is, yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 3: you'll see teams spend money and take some risks, but
- 6:15Speaker 3: it's gonna be the right kind of player.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And the reason why I also focus on the tight
- 6:19Speaker 1: end Jeff Motion for the Inside the Birds podcasts, Inside
- 6:21Speaker 1: the Birds dot Com, Philly Voice Fraub his Eagles coverage
- 6:25Speaker 1: the tight end is because there's a whole, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: tug of war right now between for the Eagles, do
- 6:31Speaker 1: you bring back Goddard?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Did you go get a tight end in the draft?
- 6:35Speaker 1: And there's not really like a perfect answer for that
- 6:38Speaker 1: because historically the Eagles usually had Jeff the replacement, right
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know, you went from Chad Lewis to l. J.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Smith to Brent Selick, the zach Ertz, the Dallas.
- 6:47Speaker 1: There's always like a guy lined up, and now there
- 6:50Speaker 1: is no guy liners like a very weird situation.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So like people might look at.
- 6:55Speaker 1: A guy like Kenyadi from Oregon or for me, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: Love Life Stours from Vanderbilt, Like you can look at
- 7:02Speaker 1: these tight ends of the drafts to be like, maybe
- 7:04Speaker 1: that's the guy, but does it make sense for them
- 7:07Speaker 1: to bring back a guy like a Goddard or get
- 7:10Speaker 1: a veteran in here for maybe one year and draft
- 7:13Speaker 1: a tight end.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Well, I think what they do.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I think it makes sense to bring back Dallas Goddard
- 7:18Speaker 3: if they can, okay, But I think that, like you're saying,
- 7:23Speaker 3: I know this, that they have to remake the position altogether.
- 7:27Speaker 3: In other words, you're about to implement a new offense.
- 7:30Speaker 3: It's going to have some shades of the.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Lafleur Shanahan McVeigh offense.
- 7:35Speaker 3: So you're gonna need guys who can block, and they criminally,
- 7:39Speaker 3: criminally last year.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Left that part black.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I mean, and Dallas himself has always been a good blocker,
- 7:45Speaker 3: but for whatever reason, his blocking wasn't up to speed
- 7:49Speaker 3: last year.
- 7:50Speaker 4: So even if you do bring back Dallas Goddard.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Josh, and you're gonna have to draft tight You're gonna
- 7:55Speaker 3: have to actually bring in a bunch of tight ends.
- 7:57Speaker 3: You're gonna have to draft a young Goddard replacement even
- 8:00Speaker 3: if you bring him back.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Even if you don't, then you don't have to sign
- 8:03Speaker 4: a veteran.
- 8:04Speaker 3: But I wouldn't be surprised if he saw a little
- 8:06Speaker 3: bit of a focus on.
- 8:08Speaker 4: A y tight end, a guy who can block.
- 8:09Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna throw out a name who's not
- 8:11Speaker 3: a free agent, but it's not a sexy name, but
- 8:14Speaker 3: he's not a free agent. But I'm saying this kind
- 8:16Speaker 3: of tight end Josh Oliver, Right, a guy who can
- 8:18Speaker 3: block catch a little bit.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Right. You're gonna need those.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Kind of guys in this offense because you don't want
- 8:26Speaker 3: to be telegraphics. So the guy's got to have some
- 8:28Speaker 3: set of hands. You know, I think cam Latto is
- 8:30Speaker 3: the only one under contract. He's interesting because he did
- 8:32Speaker 3: play for the forty nine ers and he did catch
- 8:34Speaker 3: passes in college.
- 8:35Speaker 4: He hasn't been that guy in the NFL. He's been
- 8:38Speaker 4: and then they.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Try to convert him to a fullback, but he actually
- 8:41Speaker 3: has a pedigree that they should be looking for.
- 8:43Speaker 1: You know, someone brought up a question last week. I
- 8:45Speaker 1: want to re purpose to you because you just mentioned
- 8:47Speaker 1: about the offense. When you look at the Eagles now
- 8:51Speaker 1: with Sean Mannion, does this make the Ben Van Sumering
- 8:56Speaker 1: question more interesting? Because remember he was the fullback last year. Right,
- 9:00Speaker 1: he got into the first play of the season, completely
- 9:03Speaker 1: changed the way they were.
- 9:04Speaker 2: They right out what was it, Kyle Grantson?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Remember they tried him a couple of times at that spot,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, and then they eventually went to law to
- 9:11Speaker 1: so like does now Ben van Sumern, does his role
- 9:16Speaker 1: become even more important?
- 9:17Speaker 4: You know? They had a plan for him, Josh last year.
- 9:19Speaker 4: There's it's undebatable. I know this. They had a plan
- 9:22Speaker 4: for him. His great athlete has great hands. Now is
- 9:25Speaker 4: he gonna was? That was the plan to make him
- 9:27Speaker 4: into Kyle u Schick. That's it. That's a little different,
- 9:29Speaker 4: you know.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I mean that guy'said ten time, eleven time pro bowler
- 9:33Speaker 3: and a big staple of the forty nine ers offense.
- 9:35Speaker 3: But they were going to have a plan for him.
- 9:37Speaker 3: He's also able to return kicks. I mean, he could
- 9:40Speaker 3: have served a variety of roles. And so that was
- 9:42Speaker 3: the second major injury.
- 9:44Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But remember remember that they signed to a futures deal
- 9:48Speaker 3: Carson Steele, who was a full back slash run back
- 9:52Speaker 3: right with the Chiefs were using him as a running back.
- 9:54Speaker 4: He had played fullback, I believe in college.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So he's another guy who can kind of give you
- 9:58Speaker 3: a couple of different dimensions. And so there's no doubt
- 10:00Speaker 3: in my mind that and then coupled with whatever they
- 10:03Speaker 3: want to do with Cam Wats or whether they keep
- 10:05Speaker 3: them a fullback or make them tight end that they
- 10:07Speaker 3: have a role that they envision a fullback playing in
- 10:10Speaker 3: this offense going forward, and not just your nineteen eighty
- 10:13Speaker 3: style like you line up in front of the running
- 10:14Speaker 3: back and block for him. They want to use that
- 10:17Speaker 3: guy in an innovative way.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Jeff Mosher from the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 10:22Speaker 1: If Phillya Voyce joining us here on the Sports Batch,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Josh Hennick filling it for Mike gill on Nice even
- 10:26Speaker 1: three es be on a blizzard Monday edition of the
- 10:29Speaker 1: Sports Bash. Jeff, when you think about also the offense,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, man yin coming in with that style that
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, and you know me and the check we're
- 10:38Speaker 1: talking about.
- 10:39Speaker 2: It last week.
- 10:39Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of differences in the in
- 10:42Speaker 1: the what they're going to want to do. And one
- 10:44Speaker 1: of those differences is are they going to potentially want
- 10:47Speaker 1: to use the wide receivers differently. We know Eagle fans
- 10:51Speaker 1: they love to ask about, you know, why don't you
- 10:54Speaker 1: line up Davante Smith in the slide and why don't
- 10:56Speaker 1: you run this route for a j Brown? Well, those
- 10:59Speaker 1: I ideas might not have fit what Buttulo and Sirianni
- 11:04Speaker 1: wanted to do. But that type of creativity is synonymous
- 11:08Speaker 1: with the mcveigh's, the Shanahans, and the Floors.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Right sure, creativity route diversity what we call or formational diversity,
- 11:18Speaker 3: using guys in different spots. You know, they never had
- 11:21Speaker 3: a true slot receiver last year, Josh, I think that
- 11:25Speaker 3: that hurt them. When you're trying to do things differently
- 11:29Speaker 3: and showcase different things, but you can't move I mean
- 11:32Speaker 3: Ag Browns X, it's about fiser Z And then you
- 11:35Speaker 3: know you're trying to use a combination of guys. Either
- 11:39Speaker 3: you're in twelve personnel and using a flex tight end
- 11:41Speaker 3: or you're using John Dotson or maybe Darius Cooper as
- 11:46Speaker 3: sort of because he's more physical. But they really didn't
- 11:49Speaker 3: use the middle of the field and didn't have the
- 11:52Speaker 3: kind of weapon you traditionally see that kind of offense
- 11:56Speaker 3: have like a Jayden Reid right with the Packers who
- 11:59Speaker 3: can just move around. And yeah that that DeVante Smith
- 12:03Speaker 3: has that ability side playing John dottson outside in that situation, well,
- 12:09Speaker 3: he doesn't win well outside consistently, so I you know,
- 12:13Speaker 3: was traded and didn't really do much even as an Eagle.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I'm not trying to slam the guy. You know, I
- 12:17Speaker 3: love my Penn Steak guys. But it's just the reality
- 12:19Speaker 3: of the situation. So they've got to figure out what
- 12:23Speaker 3: they want. You know, they have to obviously figure out
- 12:25Speaker 3: the Aja Brown situation. But I do think, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 3: Johnny Wilson will come back. We'll see if there's some
- 12:29Speaker 3: kind of role with him. Darius Cooper will be a
- 12:31Speaker 3: year or two. But they gotta add they gotta they
- 12:33Speaker 3: gotta be able to have the right type of guys
- 12:35Speaker 3: to be able to run the route tree and the
- 12:38Speaker 3: concepts that Joe Mannon wants to implement without being telegraphic.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Without being telegraphic, right, And you know, by the way,
- 12:44Speaker 1: if if you really want a Penn Steak guy, you
- 12:46Speaker 1: could maybe try to overpay for Tyler Warren for the Colts.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But you know, I'm just saying.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Well, yes, unfortunately he's locked in for a while.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, he's locked in. But that makes said
- 13:01Speaker 2: the offense you mentioned Dodson.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Obviously they're they're not gonna oh not obviously most likely
- 13:08Speaker 1: I should say they're not bringing him back. I don't
- 13:10Speaker 1: I don't want to presume anything is with this Eagles team.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You never know, as yeah, you never know, but you know, listen,
- 13:18Speaker 1: there there is a scenario where you could draft a
- 13:21Speaker 1: wide receiver in this draft, and there's a there's a
- 13:24Speaker 1: nothing to do.
- 13:25Speaker 3: With a J.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Brown's future. Just in general, you could draft a wide receiver.
- 13:29Speaker 1: You know, they can look at the This is a
- 13:30Speaker 1: very interesting wide receiver class. And coming back to the combine,
- 13:34Speaker 1: from what I understand, Jeff, most of these receivers are
- 13:37Speaker 1: going to uh to work out for teams. So there's
- 13:39Speaker 1: a possibility that, you know, the next Eagles slot receiver
- 13:44Speaker 1: or number three receiver could be found in the drafts
- 13:46Speaker 1: instead of free agency.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I don't call it up.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It's a miss, but like fifth round picks are here
- 13:55Speaker 3: or there, right, But you know, Ania Smith not turning,
- 13:58Speaker 3: not becoming what the Eagles thought he was going to
- 14:00Speaker 3: be coming out.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Of Texas Tech. Was it A and M.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he was a quintessential slot wideout and he was
- 14:12Speaker 3: a strong, compactly built guy. And they struggled in his
- 14:15Speaker 3: first camp miserably, you know, he had bad hands and
- 14:18Speaker 3: then which he didn't have it A and M and
- 14:20Speaker 3: then he got hurt and then last year. You know,
- 14:23Speaker 3: he was given a chance in training camp with all
- 14:25Speaker 3: the injuries.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You know, A. J.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Brown was missing time, thought the Smith missed time, Wilson
- 14:28Speaker 3: gets hurt, and I Smith had a chance to kind
- 14:30Speaker 3: of stamp himself as that guy, but Darius Cooper played better.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Cooper's not really a true slot so it was a miss.
- 14:37Speaker 4: It was a miss.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I mean again, I know the hit rate on fifth
- 14:40Speaker 3: round picks is not always great, but you know, when
- 14:43Speaker 3: you hold the Eagles to a high standard and you
- 14:45Speaker 3: expect them to come up with at least guys on
- 14:47Speaker 3: day three who could be contributors on specialty, I mean,
- 14:50Speaker 3: the guy didn't even make it into year two. And
- 14:52Speaker 3: that wasn't because the Eagles had such wonderful depth at
- 14:55Speaker 3: wide receiver that he.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Just couldn't make the team.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Right, looking back on it, it was a miss that
- 15:01Speaker 3: hurt the team.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Is a huge miss.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And you just mentioned the fact of you know, AJ
- 15:06Speaker 1: Brown goes down, the guy still has trouble getting on
- 15:08Speaker 1: the field. Smith was such a disappointment they had to
- 15:11Speaker 1: bring back Britain Covey for goodness.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Sake, like you know, like think about yes, but you're right,
- 15:16Speaker 3: Smith was supposed to be that guy too, Right.
- 15:18Speaker 1: So it's like that goes to show you to your
- 15:20Speaker 1: previous point about how Howie Rosen does not hit on
- 15:23Speaker 1: every single one of these draft picks.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Does he do a good job of trying to rectify
- 15:27Speaker 2: them later?
- 15:28Speaker 4: Sure?
- 15:28Speaker 2: So now going into this draft, you gotta make a decision.
- 15:31Speaker 1: The Eagles always tell us they're going best player available, Jeff,
- 15:34Speaker 1: But you know, frankly, and I'm not trying to like
- 15:38Speaker 1: a pigeonhole these guys, but to wear a peg round hole.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Some of the guys who might be available for you
- 15:45Speaker 1: in the draft where the Eagles are picking, a lot
- 15:48Speaker 1: of them are your ex receivers.
- 15:50Speaker 2: They're not slot receivers.
- 15:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I love Denzel Boston from Washington, but he plays more
- 15:55Speaker 1: like AJ Brown than he does anyone else. You know.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Chris Burzell of Tennessee another guy. He's more of an
- 16:01Speaker 1: X receiver, Malachi Field X receiver. So you got to
- 16:05Speaker 1: really do a lot of research coming into this draft
- 16:07Speaker 1: if you're trying to look in the draft and try
- 16:09Speaker 1: to get somebody to be the next a Nias Smith type.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Yeah, yep.
- 16:16Speaker 3: And so I'm really fascinated to see on how the
- 16:19Speaker 3: draft goes. Obviously you have to get those free agency first, Josh,
- 16:22Speaker 3: you know, so I think that it's always dangerous. I mean,
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think the slot receiver role in an off in general.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I was gonna say in an offense like this, but
- 16:31Speaker 3: let's be honest, it's just important. It's your number three receiver,
- 16:34Speaker 3: and the Eagles really aren't deep there. So I mean,
- 16:37Speaker 3: I don't know that you can just wait for the
- 16:38Speaker 3: draft to try to hope that you don't miss on
- 16:41Speaker 3: a Day three pick because you're not Gonnadra have a
- 16:43Speaker 3: slot receiver in the first round. I think that, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 3: it would help to sign a guy, a veteran when
- 16:50Speaker 3: you're not you know, the wide receiver free agent class
- 16:53Speaker 3: probably isn't loaded with a bunch of guys. But we're
- 16:54Speaker 3: not looking for a superstar here. We're looking for someone
- 16:57Speaker 3: who's naturally played the slot receiver, who.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Can help you the change.
- 17:00Speaker 3: We can do some things for you, and you know,
- 17:04Speaker 3: I mean, listen, Romeo Dubbs, He's why.
- 17:06Speaker 4: He's kind of a mix of.
- 17:07Speaker 2: That, right.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And yes, we'll see if there's money that the Eagles
- 17:10Speaker 3: have that they feel like he can play there. For
- 17:13Speaker 3: the most part, we'll see if there's a trade market
- 17:15Speaker 3: where you know a guy more fits that position.
- 17:18Speaker 4: We'll see it's not always easy to get the guy
- 17:19Speaker 4: you want.
- 17:20Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 17:21Speaker 1: But I will think it's a very good point though,
- 17:23Speaker 1: because again, these McVeigh Shanahan, the Floor O'Connell offenses, they
- 17:29Speaker 1: utilize every single weapon on the field. It's not just
- 17:33Speaker 1: a we're getting the ball to one or two guys.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's a if you're open, you're gonna have a chance
- 17:40Speaker 1: to getting the ball.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Look at Juwan Jones for the forty nine ers. You know,
- 17:44Speaker 3: Jens Jump Starry, Jwan Jennings.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Thank you how big he has come up for them.
- 17:49Speaker 2: He is a free agent, by the way, Oh how
- 17:51Speaker 2: about that?
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and I know he's always unhappy with his contracts.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I forget who the slot receiver was in the Minnesota Vikings.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I think it was Nailor, who's come up with some
- 18:01Speaker 3: pretty big glory.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Look inther that.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Or he goes to z and they'll move like Jefferson inside,
- 18:06Speaker 3: or they'll move Addison inside. But that's the The point
- 18:08Speaker 3: is you have a good enough player to win on
- 18:10Speaker 3: the outside that you can move a star like Devonte
- 18:13Speaker 3: Smith to the inside. So whether or not it's a
- 18:15Speaker 3: slot or whether or not it's a Z, I don't
- 18:17Speaker 3: care what it is. Just have enough bodies so that
- 18:20Speaker 3: you can put somebody in that slot position that you
- 18:23Speaker 3: feel comfortable with, because your offense is about to be
- 18:26Speaker 3: predicated on exploiting every single blade of grass on the field.
- 18:30Speaker 4: As long as your quarterback is willing to do it.
- 18:32Speaker 3: And then you need somebody the quarterback is gonna want
- 18:33Speaker 3: to feel comfortable throwing the ball to and then getting
- 18:36Speaker 3: those yak yards across the middle. And it's got to
- 18:39Speaker 3: be someone who's good.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And listen, I'm gonna give you a couple of names
- 18:42Speaker 1: really quick. I just throw up the list of who's
- 18:44Speaker 1: a free agent this offseason. Here are some of the
- 18:46Speaker 1: receivers who have played in this style of offense. Okay,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and there's actually some interesting needs. For example, to you
- 18:52Speaker 1: at well, he's a free agent. Juwan Jennings, he's a
- 18:56Speaker 1: free agent. Rashi Shaheed is a free agent. How about
- 19:00Speaker 1: a guy like Noah Brown, he's also a free agent.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I know he's a little older, but Keenan Allen, maybe
- 19:06Speaker 1: he's a guy you bring in to be maybe a
- 19:09Speaker 1: veteran you mentioned on the outside.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Put Devonte Smith on the inside.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And you know, I know some people might dismiss this name,
- 19:16Speaker 1: but the reality is that you got a guy like
- 19:18Speaker 1: Hunter Renfro.
- 19:19Speaker 2: He is out there. He's a free agent, so.
- 19:22Speaker 3: He hasn't played a year and a half. Josh, we
- 19:24Speaker 3: got we have to get past Hunter run Fro. He
- 19:26Speaker 3: was like two years ago the fans wanted him.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Right fair.
- 19:29Speaker 2: What about Kendrick Kendrick Born.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Kendrick Warren or Born.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe like again, you know, and by the way,
- 19:37Speaker 3: they don't have to have played in the offense. It's
- 19:39Speaker 3: just you just want them to be able to be
- 19:41Speaker 3: able to play in the offense.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 2: True.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I would just try to find guys on this list
- 19:45Speaker 1: who I know have played in this style of offense.
- 19:47Speaker 4: That's all yep, yep.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I mean, obviously a guy who could play in the offenses.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And I don't know if he's the best option, but
- 19:54Speaker 1: a Tim Patrick, he's coming off of an injury. Maybe
- 19:57Speaker 1: he's a guy that can be a versatile piece. He
- 19:59Speaker 1: was a Ben Johnson's offense.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Correct.
- 20:02Speaker 3: There will will be guys out there that are worth
- 20:05Speaker 3: one year flyers that again again probably can give you
- 20:11Speaker 3: more than you got from John Dotson. So long as
- 20:17Speaker 3: the offense like takes as long as the personnel that
- 20:21Speaker 3: you have takes to the offense.
- 20:24Speaker 2: He's Jeff Mosher follow him on the X platform with
- 20:26Speaker 2: Jeff P.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Mosher took out inside the Birds podcasts like subscribing Deallo
- 20:30Speaker 1: where we get your podcast. Also Jeff Mosher's coverage of
- 20:32Speaker 1: the Eagles at Philly Voice. Even though P is the
- 20:36Speaker 1: middle of your name, I'm sure you, like everybody else,
- 20:39Speaker 1: was chanting USA yesterday, right, Jeff.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Of course, what a great game, what a beautiful moment,
- 20:44Speaker 3: especially for the Gudro family, control family. That was very
- 20:48Speaker 3: few things in sports can move me to a little
- 20:50Speaker 3: bit of tears, but that was really close.
- 20:51Speaker 4: And you know, it was just a really special moment.
- 20:54Speaker 4: And pay who.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Encapsulates it better than Mike Tarrico, he is, he's just
- 20:59Speaker 3: a pro is pro.
- 21:01Speaker 4: So it was just a great moment.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just a great day altogether. I'm glad
- 21:05Speaker 1: you mentioned the goodrou thing because I mentioned that earlier.
- 21:06Speaker 1: That you know, even if you're not like a crier, right,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you know, there was there was an emotional scene. Guys
- 21:12Speaker 1: who played with Johnny Hockey over the years, like ka
- 21:15Speaker 1: Chuk and Wimsky. You those guys like then go out
- 21:19Speaker 1: of their way to acknowledge Johnny and the family and
- 21:22Speaker 1: the kids. It was one of those moments where like
- 21:24Speaker 1: that picture, that's why I picked it for the the
- 21:27Speaker 1: cover picture here, Jeff is all of them with the kids. Yea,
- 21:30Speaker 1: you know like that that's a that's a picture that
- 21:33Speaker 1: goes down and infamy. Like that's a picture that's like
- 21:36Speaker 1: that to me. That and then Jack cues with the
- 21:38Speaker 1: broken teeth, with the flag, you know, yeah, like you know,
- 21:41Speaker 1: those those are things that you know, it took us
- 21:43Speaker 1: forty six years to get this crawled again. Well the
- 21:46Speaker 1: next forty six years that's gonna be the memorable moments.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I agree.
- 21:50Speaker 3: You think of the Herb Brooks, you know, the speech
- 21:52Speaker 3: right for the eighty team to have that, right, Herb Brooks. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:57Speaker 3: Herb Brooks.
- 21:58Speaker 4: And how infamous that wolf famous? That was not famous?
- 22:01Speaker 3: And you know, obviously if anybody saw the movie Miracle,
- 22:04Speaker 3: it was it was unbelievable. And then I think that
- 22:06Speaker 3: what you just said about Quinn and his teeth and
- 22:08Speaker 3: Olden the thing and and the pictures with the kids
- 22:11Speaker 3: will be those iconic vignettes from him. But obviously, the
- 22:16Speaker 3: three on three situation, the goal, all of it, you know,
- 22:19Speaker 3: it just just I think for South Jersey it hits
- 22:22Speaker 3: home a little bit more too. I mean, it's a
- 22:23Speaker 3: great Olympic American moment, but for South Jersey, you know which,
- 22:28Speaker 3: you know, South.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Jersey and hockey. There's a lot of good hockey.
- 22:32Speaker 3: In South Jersey, surprisingly, but I don't know that people
- 22:35Speaker 3: around the country consider South Jersey to be any kind
- 22:38Speaker 3: of a hotbed for hockey.
- 22:39Speaker 4: And I think that the Johnny G.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Goodrou at least put it on the map a little bit,
- 22:42Speaker 3: you know exactly.
- 22:44Speaker 1: All Right, Jeff, I'll let you get back to recovering
- 22:46Speaker 1: from shoveling the snow.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Okay, thank you, brother. Take care.
