- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, guys, here we are last break of the day.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's been a fun day, it's been a good day.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Thank you so much for listening. As always, we appreciate
- 0:08Speaker 1: your business, our audience. Thank you. Take it away Steve
- 0:12Speaker 1: with your fabulous clothing remarks. And Junior, you have a question.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you know today the first day at the campunk
- 0:19Speaker 2: you're going to leave here and go talk to these boys.
- 0:21Speaker 3: You've been doing it seventeen years, man, seventeen years. You've
- 0:23Speaker 3: been doing your own seventeen seventeen.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yes, sir, and I'm let me ask you, is why
- 0:29Speaker 1: do you hope they get from you this week?
- 0:32Speaker 2: You know, listen, this is my seventeenth year of mentoring
- 0:37Speaker 2: these boys.
- 0:39Speaker 3: But we have virtual camps throughout the year.
- 0:45Speaker 2: During COVID, it was incredible the amount of boys that
- 0:49Speaker 2: we mentored during COVID because we opened it up across
- 0:53Speaker 2: the country.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It was dudes. We had dues on the zoom from Africa.
- 0:59Speaker 2: We were in the millions during COVID of young men
- 1:05Speaker 2: signing up just to hear some words of encouragement from
- 1:09Speaker 2: other men.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It wasn't just me, It was a lot of men.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And you know, man, I just it is my hope
- 1:18Speaker 2: when they come to this camp that they first of
- 1:22Speaker 2: all listen and are willing to be open.
- 1:25Speaker 3: We don't save all of these boys. I'm gonna be
- 1:28Speaker 3: real with you.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Probably in every group of two hundred, we lose maybe five.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We completely lose two of them every single year. I mean, man,
- 1:42Speaker 2: it's been some heartbreaking stories for me. Man, but it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: been so many success stories. That's why I can't stop.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Because the good I weighs the bad. I don't want
- 1:53Speaker 2: to lose any of these boys along the way. But
- 1:56Speaker 2: I understand the odds of it because once they leave
- 2:00Speaker 2: in dis camp, they go back to their reality, and
- 2:02Speaker 2: if they're not strong enough to adhere to the principles
- 2:06Speaker 2: and the things we've taught them about manhood, about being
- 2:11Speaker 2: a good citizen or the best boy you could be,
- 2:15Speaker 2: so you could become the man that you dream of.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And what we had to do was we put a
- 2:20Speaker 2: large number of men in front of them to aspire
- 2:23Speaker 2: to become. I put all positive black men in front
- 2:28Speaker 2: of them. I got two white guys this year. It
- 2:31Speaker 2: don't matter to me and your color. If you're volunteering,
- 2:34Speaker 2: if you're willing to come, But then you know it's
- 2:36Speaker 2: sort of crazy, man, because it kills me the mount
- 2:39Speaker 2: of celebrities that come here but want a paycheck for it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I come, but this my feet, brother, it's a foundation.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Will. I don't have no fee for you. I can't
- 2:48Speaker 3: give you one hundred.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Thousand dollars to come talk to no boys because I
- 2:51Speaker 2: don't know what you're finnah say. But I go up
- 2:53Speaker 2: there for free and say it and probably say it better.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I promise you that and really mean it and care
- 2:57Speaker 2: about it. But what I man is that they listen,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and what we've had to do to get them to
- 3:04Speaker 2: listen has been different over the seventeen years. But pay
- 3:07Speaker 2: attention to me. Pay attention to all these men they
- 3:10Speaker 2: come up in front of you, because I don't bring
- 3:13Speaker 2: men into this camp because because they got money or
- 3:15Speaker 2: they famous. I bring men to this camp because they
- 3:19Speaker 2: are good men. They are engineers, they're lawyers, they are designers,
- 3:24Speaker 2: their producers. I brought people in from Nike shoe designed people.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Do you know three shoe designs and Nike users from
- 3:34Speaker 2: kids in my camp over the years.
- 3:36Speaker 3: These boys draw sneakers.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Three are the sneaky but is designed by three boys
- 3:41Speaker 2: that come from this camp. These boys come here, man,
- 3:44Speaker 2: They gifted man. They do ai, they do cartoons. They
- 3:48Speaker 2: got children's books out because I.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Open up their mind to dreaming.
- 3:54Speaker 2: If you really want to get into your kids space,
- 3:58Speaker 2: quit talking to them about school. Stop talking to them
- 4:02Speaker 2: about them, Ruth, you don't need no girlfriend. You get
- 4:04Speaker 2: these books, you can stop saying that to a little boy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You're wasting your time. Stop worrying about them girls, and
- 4:10Speaker 2: worry about these books. No, listen to me. Talk to
- 4:14Speaker 2: your sons and daughters about what they dream of doing.
- 4:19Speaker 2: What would you be if there is no way you
- 4:21Speaker 2: could fail at it? What would you be? And listen
- 4:24Speaker 2: to them, and don't get into an argument with them
- 4:27Speaker 2: about it.
- 4:29Speaker 3: They dreams can be, they dreams.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Stop shooting down the dreams of your children because they
- 4:35Speaker 2: ain't your dreams. Stop trying to live vicariously through your
- 4:39Speaker 2: children when your children were born for a whole nother purpose.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't care what you come here and dream about.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I don't care. One boy told me you want to
- 4:48Speaker 2: be a senator. Okay, cool, go be a senator. I've
- 4:51Speaker 2: had them come in here man and said I want
- 4:53Speaker 2: to own a foreign owned business.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Okay, go over there and open up your business.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I don't care, but let's get to dreaming about something,
- 5:00Speaker 2: because that dream is important. Man. A man without a
- 5:03Speaker 2: dream of visions your parish. If you dreaming, it gives
- 5:06Speaker 2: you hope. When you dreaming, man, it helps you aspire. Now,
- 5:10Speaker 2: no matter what the educational requirements are to fulfill your dream,
- 5:14Speaker 2: once you have the dream, you will meet the educational
- 5:17Speaker 2: requirements because if you want that dreams. Look, man, what
- 5:21Speaker 2: I did was I had a dream so big that
- 5:24Speaker 2: no amount of failure was gonna stop me. That was
- 5:28Speaker 2: nothing that can happen to me that would stop me
- 5:30Speaker 2: from wanting to achieve my dream.
- 5:33Speaker 3: That's how big I dream. And I teach that here
- 5:36Speaker 3: at just count.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The number one thing is the principles of manhood and
- 5:41Speaker 2: dream building. If you talk to your children about dream building,
- 5:45Speaker 2: guess what the dream will inspire them to get?
- 5:49Speaker 3: The education?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Y'all keep talking to these kids about education without tying
- 5:54Speaker 2: it to no dream, and you're gonna lose. Like that, man,
- 6:00Speaker 2: you're just making your job harder as a parent. Find
- 6:03Speaker 2: out what your children dream about, man, Help them make
- 6:07Speaker 2: a vision board, send them google stuff and print it
- 6:10Speaker 2: out sheets of everything they dream about, and keep it
- 6:13Speaker 2: in their face and then since every nine, then slide
- 6:17Speaker 2: the requirements to become that. Y'all have a great day
- 6:21Speaker 2: to day. The boys will be here today. I'm gonna
- 6:23Speaker 2: be busy, but I'm in the life saving business. I
- 6:27Speaker 2: thank God Almighty for putting that on me. I don't
- 6:30Speaker 2: want it sometimes, but it's on me and I appreciate
- 6:33Speaker 2: you lost.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Y'all have a great day to day.
- 6:35Speaker 2: To talk to God today, he would absolutely love to
- 6:38Speaker 2: hear from you.
