- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Did the Patriots have practice on one day?
- 0:17Speaker 1: I was just wondering, how did you guys do yesterday?
- 0:18Speaker 1: You got some drinking and good. We're gonna run sprints now.
- 0:20Speaker 1: For the first twenty practice, I was in a three
- 0:23Speaker 1: point contest in the guarden. Cedric Maxwell called me downtown
- 0:27Speaker 1: Freddy Brown that day, wife Cable, Oh, I've got everything.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I didn't cut the court, I added, best detective pairing.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You're definitely Olivia and State player. That's an SUV. I'm
- 0:40Speaker 1: talking about the original another crime with an suv. Oh,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you're giving it away by watching all the c Yes
- 0:45Speaker 1: show well the Chicagos or NBC. And by the way,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Chicagos are an NBC. I corrected on that said
- 0:52Speaker 1: for us, but I waits at home after I've done,
- 0:56Speaker 1: I just put my hand out. My dog cleans my
- 0:58Speaker 1: fat bastard. You can't even wash your own hand immediately.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I can't believe you're hearing it. You're hearing it, you
- 1:08Speaker 1: know when it's working. It was so hard to stop
- 1:10Speaker 1: for a defense. I've just talked to myself. No one's
- 1:13Speaker 1: even listening. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:20Speaker 1: welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It's Thursday here at Gilette Stadium.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Back to our regularly scheduled programming at our regularly scheduled
- 1:28Speaker 1: time regularly, but we're gonna be back off at next
- 1:31Speaker 1: week for the for the live show. Yeah, next week
- 1:33Speaker 1: is a big week. We got the mandatory mini camps.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So on Tuesday and Thursday we'll just day one of
- 1:40Speaker 1: the College World Series out. You guys are gonna do
- 1:43Speaker 1: the show. We'll have live shows from from practice high
- 1:48Speaker 1: above practice and video. So we'll announce the times as
- 1:53Speaker 1: soon as we find out when it is. But Tuesday
- 1:56Speaker 1: and Thursday live shows from practice. So Thursday you get
- 1:59Speaker 1: a two for because Wednesday we're watching it, not having
- 2:02Speaker 1: a show, and then we'll come in Thursday we'll be
- 2:04Speaker 1: watching it. We'll be telling you what happened yesterday, where
- 2:06Speaker 1: happened today. Although Paul today had I think the quintessential
- 2:09Speaker 1: quote about Mini Camp. Paul, can you can you can
- 2:12Speaker 1: you share this with the group please? I loved it.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Mini Campus just OTAs that they have to go to.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I love that. Well, yeah, when you build it up
- 2:19Speaker 1: a minire we go mini camp are is a training camp,
- 2:22Speaker 1: mini camp that they have to go. It's all but
- 2:25Speaker 1: it's all I know, But it's all a step in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the process. Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, kind of the
- 2:34Speaker 1: highlight of other than the draft and you know, the
- 2:37Speaker 1: free agent open and free agency the draft. I think
- 2:40Speaker 1: it's kind of the most casual football fans think that
- 2:43Speaker 1: mini camp is different than OTAs, like it's a higher level. Right,
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's that's the only point that I was And the
- 2:48Speaker 1: only difference really between the two is it's mandatory. You
- 2:51Speaker 1: have to be there or you get fined. I wonder
- 2:53Speaker 1: how much like the OTA stuff feeds into what they
- 2:56Speaker 1: do at mini camp though, you know, I mean, I
- 2:58Speaker 1: know if to us it looks like kind of the same,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but for them, I'm trying to install things. Oh that's
- 3:03Speaker 1: that's like the stack them up, right. Yeah, but it's
- 3:07Speaker 1: this like a all right, we've had OTAs since whatever
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's been. They've been here since mid April. Now are
- 3:14Speaker 1: we starting to really we've got everything in let's really
- 3:17Speaker 1: is it like a review? Perhaps you're intense all right now,
- 3:21Speaker 1: we're really install I don't know how it is on
- 3:23Speaker 1: other teams, but I'm telling you on this team, if
- 3:26Speaker 1: you miss OTAs, you fall behind. Yeah, because they don't
- 3:30Speaker 1: wait for you. There's not a lot of I think reviewing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I think that once they get to minicamp, they're building
- 3:36Speaker 1: on what they just did the last That's correct. There's
- 3:40Speaker 1: no question that you can't just miss all the time
- 3:43Speaker 1: and feel like you didn't miss any like they're not
- 3:46Speaker 1: going to start over right when you get there. That's yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 1: no question. That's why I talking to Paul this morning
- 3:51Speaker 1: just about you know, we haven't seen Chason Hines or
- 3:53Speaker 1: Andrew Stuber, two rookies. It's just that that that pins
- 3:55Speaker 1: the radar a little bit for the guys getting behind.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I was asking Paul if it's still related to and
- 4:00Speaker 1: they graduate, But I checked Michigan's graduation that was in April,
- 4:03Speaker 1: so I don't think that that hasn't anything to do
- 4:05Speaker 1: with it. At least you get a sense next week
- 4:07Speaker 1: would be a mandatory of our guys insured or you know,
- 4:11Speaker 1: is there was some kind of holdout situation going on,
- 4:13Speaker 1: or you know, was it just something, But you know,
- 4:15Speaker 1: regardless of why they're not here. It could be for
- 4:17Speaker 1: a good reason. They fall behind. Yeah. Well and I
- 4:20Speaker 1: saw too, um you know Pat's pulpit. They went through
- 4:23Speaker 1: all the Patriots dot com pictures and they noticed, like
- 4:27Speaker 1: God Chaw was back at practice yesterday. You know, they
- 4:30Speaker 1: were doing the detective Slew thing. So just an example,
- 4:35Speaker 1: you know, guys come and go. Just because guys weren't
- 4:37Speaker 1: there the day that we were there, it doesn't mean that, hey,
- 4:39Speaker 1: they might be here tomorrow. They might have been here yesterday.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's not you know, although you know, still no pictures
- 4:44Speaker 1: of Isaiah Wynn, which I think is really become a
- 4:47Speaker 1: bigger story now. Everybody seems to kind of be tom
- 4:49Speaker 1: I mean, we talked about it yesterday, but it does
- 4:51Speaker 1: seem like something I think just a lot of them
- 4:54Speaker 1: took off until June. I mean, Kyler Murray was like
- 4:57Speaker 1: not at the Cardinals practice first Ota practices either. Then
- 5:01Speaker 1: he popped up yesterday June first. So I feel like
- 5:05Speaker 1: some people just wanted off until June for whatever reason.
- 5:08Speaker 1: He got other stuff too, like family graduations, wedding. Well,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think there's probably stuff. It's probably a case by
- 5:14Speaker 1: case basis for a lot of different guys. And you know,
- 5:16Speaker 1: Adrian Phillips had talked about being home to help, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: with his with his son. Um. You know, Kyler Murray
- 5:24Speaker 1: is clearly a contract you know situation. So I don't
- 5:27Speaker 1: know if any of these guys are contractual if someone's
- 5:30Speaker 1: looking for more money. Judean have a baby too, like
- 5:33Speaker 1: later like not well he didn't have a baby, his
- 5:34Speaker 1: wife had a baby later later, like towards the end
- 5:39Speaker 1: of the season, right, I think I believe. So Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean it could I know, between Hunter,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Henry Judean, Adrian Phillips, babies everywhere. Um, but yeah, that's yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And that's the stuff where you know, during the season,
- 5:51Speaker 1: I mean, what do you see your kid like barely
- 5:52Speaker 1: at all? Well, that's my whole thing. If you're deciding
- 5:55Speaker 1: like I'm not going to OTAs, they're voluntary, I have
- 5:57Speaker 1: no problem with that. I just I think it's weird,
- 6:00Speaker 1: like I'm not going because my wife just had a baby,
- 6:03Speaker 1: Like okay, well do you want to go to would
- 6:06Speaker 1: you normally go to OTAs? Like in other words, if
- 6:09Speaker 1: you just think I don't need like like Brady hit
- 6:11Speaker 1: just decided at some point, I don't need this anymore.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't need to be on my feet all spring.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You know, there's a better way for me to train.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That's up to you, you know whatever. I just think
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's weird, like how they pick and choose from year
- 6:24Speaker 1: to year. Different you know. Jonah Smith last year couldn't
- 6:27Speaker 1: because his wife had a baby, like the whole time,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but now this year he's here, Like, I don't know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I just think it's funny how to each his own.
- 6:35Speaker 1: They're all individual decisions that they make in their own
- 6:37Speaker 1: best interests, that's in you know whatever. But they do
- 6:40Speaker 1: so they do team at their own peril because like,
- 6:43Speaker 1: well they do so on any team, an you fall behind,
- 6:45Speaker 1: like you don't think that they're not installing the playbook
- 6:48Speaker 1: and every everybody else's fall To speak for any other team,
- 6:51Speaker 1: well I will, okay, they all have plays are here,
- 6:56Speaker 1: But I'd love to know if if it's generally guys
- 6:58Speaker 1: are either all in on tas or all out, or
- 7:01Speaker 1: they're guys that come for a few days or I
- 7:03Speaker 1: am I gonna able to be here next week but
- 7:06Speaker 1: next week and you're kind of in and out getting
- 7:08Speaker 1: a flavor for it, but not maybe you know, and
- 7:10Speaker 1: obviously we have such specific days that were there, and
- 7:12Speaker 1: it's like the guys that aren't there in those two
- 7:14Speaker 1: specific days of the ones, right, And that's why, like
- 7:16Speaker 1: I said, like on Tuesday when we were out there,
- 7:19Speaker 1: we didn't see a certain amount of people. That doesn't
- 7:21Speaker 1: mean on Wednesday the same guys. It doesn't mean last
- 7:23Speaker 1: week when we were there on Monday. The next day
- 7:26Speaker 1: was different too. And you never know who's hurt. That's
- 7:29Speaker 1: the other thing about this time of year. No one,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know, like David Andrews was out there. He's coming
- 7:33Speaker 1: off a shoulder surgery and really wasn't involved much last
- 7:37Speaker 1: week and then this week he was yea, So I
- 7:41Speaker 1: don't know, like you know, various stages of rehab, as
- 7:43Speaker 1: Bill likes to say all the time during training camps.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But we are groups too that have been like present
- 7:47Speaker 1: for stretching and then I mean, you know, this last
- 7:49Speaker 1: practice was weird with the condition calisthenics, the conditioning U
- 7:55Speaker 1: but random guys that you know, we're kind of on
- 7:57Speaker 1: the lower field and then up in the upper field.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So I mean, I think we'll get a little bit
- 8:00Speaker 1: of better sense of that next week. Two of who
- 8:03Speaker 1: were kind of the guys still getting over surgeries, recoveries,
- 8:07Speaker 1: that kind of thing. Because even guys who have been
- 8:08Speaker 1: out there like last year, like blood Zo mcgirl, and
- 8:10Speaker 1: they were kind of out and participating a little bit
- 8:12Speaker 1: early on and then training camp comes in, they're nowhere
- 8:15Speaker 1: to be found. Right. Well, we'll see. Yeah. Um, just
- 8:18Speaker 1: a really really big aside. Women's softball awesome, do you
- 8:23Speaker 1: think amazing? Do you think it's time to probably make
- 8:27Speaker 1: the field a little big bigger, move the mound back
- 8:29Speaker 1: a little bit more to increase the offense. Not enough
- 8:32Speaker 1: offense these days? And no, I don't think so. I
- 8:36Speaker 1: don't have enough samples. I mean, some of these pitchers
- 8:38Speaker 1: are just overwhelming. Yeah, but there's more offense than you think. Really. Yeah. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I've always been a big fan of softball. I think
- 8:46Speaker 1: it's great, But I just I'd like to make the
- 8:48Speaker 1: field a little bigger. You just I like watching because
- 8:51Speaker 1: the games are over in him like an hour. I'm
- 8:53Speaker 1: with Paul and that that's the reason, honestly that I
- 8:55Speaker 1: like softball more than baseball, because it's over so much quicker.
- 8:58Speaker 1: There's a mercy rule, like I'm like, it's like amen,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I just cheers, cheers, cheers, and the dugout. Yes, I
- 9:06Speaker 1: love it. Yeah, that's you don't like fun, Paul uh Well,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I was Holliston always we always seem to have a
- 9:13Speaker 1: good softball pitcher, and like if you have a good
- 9:15Speaker 1: high school softball pitcher, it's like, right, you're unbeatable. Like
- 9:18Speaker 1: they just they pitch every game. They never give up
- 9:20Speaker 1: any hits. Um Liz Walker, I think she went to BC.
- 9:23Speaker 1: She the news anchor Channel four. No, no, no, but
- 9:26Speaker 1: I don't. They're watching La right now. And the pitcher
- 9:28Speaker 1: she's probably like six two, she's she's big, and like
- 9:32Speaker 1: she's barely threw her follow through and the balls on
- 9:35Speaker 1: top of the hitter, like you know, watch this boom boom.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You know, it's quick. It's hard to hit. They can't
- 9:41Speaker 1: they can't see Fred. What are they like? Forty five?
- 9:43Speaker 1: What's the amount? Forty five? It's sixty no soft right?
- 9:49Speaker 1: Is it forties? No? Is it little league? Distance? Forty
- 9:53Speaker 1: six feet? I don't know. I'd be right, but I
- 9:56Speaker 1: would say move it back basis and forty three and
- 10:00Speaker 1: then I'd make the base pass longer. Just you know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: softball is a little closer than little league. Yeah, sometimes too,
- 10:06Speaker 1: you get like the running hit you know, kind of
- 10:09Speaker 1: like in slap it or something's call. Yeah it's uh,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I think it's a it's
- 10:14Speaker 1: a different kind of game. I wouldn't want to watch
- 10:15Speaker 1: it like every single day, but I do generally watch
- 10:18Speaker 1: the the NCAA is when they come around, and like
- 10:21Speaker 1: Tamara said, you can watch a game like an hour,
- 10:23Speaker 1: hour and a half and yeah, you don't feel like
- 10:25Speaker 1: you lost your day anyway, Sorry about that. Yeah I don't.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I don't need to be tweeting about it. But I
- 10:30Speaker 1: don't apologize for supporting women. I know. But people that
- 10:33Speaker 1: tuned into what talk about football that like, why is
- 10:36Speaker 1: he talking about softball? Oh? Yeah, well nice catching. No,
- 10:41Speaker 1: they would say that if we talked about the Celtics,
- 10:44Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. I always pull for Wisconsin and softball
- 10:47Speaker 1: because we met some of their players. When I had
- 10:52Speaker 1: a fun night with women is past. Yeah, making the
- 11:00Speaker 1: Celtics big night tonight, big night, take your nap now, Yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: nine o'clock. That's like I can say, I'm gonna stay
- 11:09Speaker 1: up and watch it. And I had everything I could
- 11:11Speaker 1: on Game seven just to stay up for that one,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and that one went to like eleven. But I don't
- 11:16Speaker 1: think I'll catch much. Absolutely not much of these ones.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Maybe a little bit early on, but all unfortunate. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: think most of the NBA playoff games have been blowouts. Yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 1: most of them haven't been close games where you like
- 11:30Speaker 1: want to stay up to watch the end. It's like
- 11:32Speaker 1: it's been terrible throughout the everyone. It's like, you're up
- 11:35Speaker 1: twenty five, I'm turning the channel to Palls point last
- 11:38Speaker 1: last show yesterday, like I want to be able to
- 11:40Speaker 1: flip through, like if this twenty five point game, Like,
- 11:42Speaker 1: it's a good thing they're not streaming. I would never
- 11:46Speaker 1: be able to see. That was the only reason I
- 11:47Speaker 1: stuck around for Game seven, because they started to close
- 11:49Speaker 1: the lead game six. In Game seven, we're close. But
- 11:52Speaker 1: throughout the playoffs, not just in the Eastern Conference and
- 11:54Speaker 1: the Western Conference has been the same. I mean game
- 11:57Speaker 1: seven blowouts like Dallas and Phoenix. The game was like
- 12:01Speaker 1: thirty points at the half. There's no sense even watching
- 12:03Speaker 1: a game seven. Yeah, And I was thinking about, like,
- 12:06Speaker 1: like you said, you know, when when a team gets
- 12:08Speaker 1: up twenty five points in basketball, and a lot of
- 12:13Speaker 1: times teams do come back from that. It's not unusual. Um,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but what's like it's not as exciting when a team,
- 12:21Speaker 1: like in football, falls behind and to come back and
- 12:24Speaker 1: the things that had to happen for them to come back.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You know, it's a method. I'll tune in, I'll check
- 12:32Speaker 1: in and a half hour from now and see what
- 12:34Speaker 1: happened and if they had come back, I don't feel
- 12:36Speaker 1: like I missed a lot now, you know. Yeah, and
- 12:39Speaker 1: then they slowly chip away at it too. It's kind
- 12:41Speaker 1: of a gradual thing where it's like say the twenty
- 12:42Speaker 1: eighth to three come back. You know you had such
- 12:44Speaker 1: key moments like the high Tower sack and you know,
- 12:47Speaker 1: big big plays that just shifted things and you could
- 12:49Speaker 1: feel a turn. But basketball, I don't know. Maybe I
- 12:51Speaker 1: don't watch as much. What if I was, if that
- 12:56Speaker 1: wasn't the Super Bowl, I would not and I would
- 13:00Speaker 1: not have been like watching that as a neutral fan,
- 13:03Speaker 1: like the Super Bowl is gonna make you watching them
- 13:04Speaker 1: out of why oh no. If I'm watching like a
- 13:06Speaker 1: game on Sunday and it's twenty eight three, I'm not
- 13:08Speaker 1: watching that game anymore. And then if I find out
- 13:10Speaker 1: like later it's close, oh whoa, they made a comeback,
- 13:13Speaker 1: I'll put it on out. But just like I do
- 13:14Speaker 1: with basketball. You know, I agree, like people will tune out,
- 13:17Speaker 1: but you miss more, is what I'm saying. If you're
- 13:21Speaker 1: tune out from a football game and the things that happened,
- 13:26Speaker 1: so that things don't happen. To have a team come
- 13:28Speaker 1: back from twenty five and it's all like, you know,
- 13:31Speaker 1: the other team starts missing and you start hitting, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: slowly chipping away football. That could be interceptions, it could
- 13:38Speaker 1: be that big sack, that could be amazing touch. You know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: like there's different ways you can't figure out the difference.
- 13:43Speaker 1: This is one of those semantic arguments I'm gonna eliminate.
- 13:46Speaker 1: There's different ways that a comeback happens in football and
- 13:49Speaker 1: sometimes basketball, they missed the three pointer and the other
- 13:52Speaker 1: team gets the rebound, goes out and score. Sometimes they
- 13:54Speaker 1: steal it in the backcourt because they start pressing, and
- 13:57Speaker 1: sometimes you know, in football, they just force it three
- 14:00Speaker 1: and I'll have to punch. That happened and the next
- 14:01Speaker 1: time High Tower strips. Actually, like you never know turnovers.
- 14:05Speaker 1: But the commonality is the team that's ahead stop scoring.
- 14:08Speaker 1: In the team that's behind scores more. Yeah, you broke
- 14:11Speaker 1: it down perfectly, but there you go. It's kind of
- 14:13Speaker 1: like there's different ways that have happened and Paul's they're
- 14:16Speaker 1: absolutely different ways that they happened in both sports. Yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's not, it's not. It's more subtle in basketball than
- 14:22Speaker 1: it is in football. I think in basketball was just
- 14:24Speaker 1: kind of stressful as keeping track of like the fouls,
- 14:27Speaker 1: where like you can be up by twenty five points,
- 14:31Speaker 1: but then say if like two of your best players
- 14:33Speaker 1: getting foul trouble, then you're like that changes everything. Right,
- 14:36Speaker 1: I'll just give you the game seven the other night
- 14:38Speaker 1: as an example, Like the last three minutes, all of
- 14:43Speaker 1: a sudden, Miami started getting stops and then getting runouts
- 14:46Speaker 1: to get easy baskets, and you go from down thirteen
- 14:48Speaker 1: to down two with the ball with thirty seconds twenty
- 14:50Speaker 1: seconds left. Yeah, like it wasn't you know, the same
- 14:55Speaker 1: thing every time. It was a different thing every time,
- 14:57Speaker 1: but you know the commonality was Marcus Smart up threes.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But you know, you know what, you brought that up
- 15:03Speaker 1: fall because I'm gonna defend him a little bit here
- 15:07Speaker 1: here because you know I don't like him. No, No,
- 15:09Speaker 1: it's always about anyone want to fight me, I want
- 15:12Speaker 1: to argue with me. I'm gonna fight I'm gonna fight everybody.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna fight out because everybody seems to be against him.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm not opposed. My problem with him in that game
- 15:22Speaker 1: wasn't the fact that he was throwing those shots up.
- 15:24Speaker 1: He was wide open on all of those. They were
- 15:27Speaker 1: daring him to do it, And my problem is the
- 15:29Speaker 1: fact he missed him all. Like if he had hit
- 15:31Speaker 1: two out of five, you know, we're talking about a
- 15:35Speaker 1: different Why was that by design? Why do you think
- 15:38Speaker 1: he was wide open? Because they thought he was the
- 15:40Speaker 1: weak link and they thought he would shoot it right,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and they said, thank you for shooting. I know, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: he was Why I am okay with him taking those shots.
- 15:49Speaker 1: You got to make at that you and couple of them.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You and Celtics fans think that there's value in that.
- 15:54Speaker 1: How did you feel about Jimmy Butler's shot. I think
- 15:57Speaker 1: that was a good shot too. He's the guy you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you're wide open. I don't have a big problem with
- 16:04Speaker 1: it because I don't think Miami had much of a
- 16:05Speaker 1: shot in overtime. I think that was it. I think
- 16:07Speaker 1: they were exhausting everything right there. But he's a terrible
- 16:10Speaker 1: three point shooter. It's I mean, on the surface, it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: not a good play. I don't have a problem with
- 16:15Speaker 1: it because I think Butler was the only reason why
- 16:16Speaker 1: they were in that position. He took a shot. He
- 16:20Speaker 1: took one shot to make one, you know, one play,
- 16:22Speaker 1: and we win. For the opposite reason, I have a
- 16:25Speaker 1: big problem with Smart because he had to try to
- 16:27Speaker 1: be the hero instead of making the right play and
- 16:29Speaker 1: driving to the basket, maybe getting followed. He's an excellent
- 16:32Speaker 1: free throw shooter, get fouled, get to the line, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: the game. He had to be a hero and try
- 16:37Speaker 1: to throw the dagger with three point after three pointer
- 16:40Speaker 1: after three pointer, and he missed them all. Why because
- 16:42Speaker 1: he's not a good shooter. Well, they weren't off I
- 16:44Speaker 1: think three three out of the five or three pointers, right,
- 16:47Speaker 1: you know, it's just kind of he's definitely not gonna
- 16:49Speaker 1: be able to do that against the Warriors because he's
- 16:51Speaker 1: gonna do that and the words are gonna go down
- 16:52Speaker 1: and make it three. So it's like he's not the
- 16:54Speaker 1: one to go shot for shots. Is that kind of
- 16:55Speaker 1: the book on him? Though? Is um poor decisions I
- 16:58Speaker 1: guess and hasn't matured really, And when when the game
- 17:02Speaker 1: is on the line in particular, he thinks he's Tatum
- 17:06Speaker 1: and Brown. He's one of them, you know. I love
- 17:09Speaker 1: when he's proud of the way that Tatum is really
- 17:12Speaker 1: emerged lately. I'm proud of him. Well, he's gonna have
- 17:15Speaker 1: to focus on his defensive this, yes, right. He can
- 17:18Speaker 1: be a very valuable player when he moves the ball
- 17:21Speaker 1: and does that kind of stuff and just plays team basketball.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I think that was a big part of their run
- 17:26Speaker 1: in the second half of the season, was him cutting
- 17:30Speaker 1: down on the shots and the playoffs, that's been the opposite.
- 17:32Speaker 1: His shot attempts are run the rise. Can I ask
- 17:34Speaker 1: a question, how did he win Defensive Player of the Year?
- 17:37Speaker 1: I know I might be teeing you up on this one,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but usually I watch well I can tell him and
- 17:42Speaker 1: they considered him the best defensive player and the best
- 17:44Speaker 1: defensive team, is my answer. But I don't know, like yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 1: because there were three Celtics. I think Rob Williams votes
- 17:50Speaker 1: is a far better defensive player. But he's hurt all
- 17:53Speaker 1: the time. I mean so, and I come to a
- 17:54Speaker 1: kind of like no opinions really, but just watching the
- 17:57Speaker 1: energy that they play defense with. That what stuck out
- 18:00Speaker 1: to me, not that he was individually. Oh he's it
- 18:04Speaker 1: seems good, but everybody he's a good defensive over not
- 18:09Speaker 1: like they say he is. Yeah, let's put it that way. Yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but I'm looking forward to the series because of what
- 18:14Speaker 1: Tamara said. It's a contrast of styles. Like you said that,
- 18:17Speaker 1: like they can't, you know, have him missing threes because
- 18:20Speaker 1: Golden State won't miss them. Noah got some most seven
- 18:23Speaker 1: Patriots heighlights up here right now, some big comebacks man
- 18:29Speaker 1: comebacks that that stretched though early in the season. What
- 18:34Speaker 1: I mean, it was just it was comical, it was
- 18:37Speaker 1: it felt unfair at times. It really felt unfair. Like
- 18:39Speaker 1: that game against Cincinnati, they show one of the Mosses
- 18:41Speaker 1: catches where it's like, how is it gets so easy? Well,
- 18:43Speaker 1: it was just so it was just so different from
- 18:46Speaker 1: what we've seen with the Like it was all of
- 18:48Speaker 1: a sudden, Wow, we have a high powered offense. Not
- 18:50Speaker 1: that they didn't score in the thirties in oh three,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you know four they did, but this was like a
- 18:57Speaker 1: whole different thing. They had never seen that before. The
- 19:00Speaker 1: Miami game. It's like, and it was also so good
- 19:03Speaker 1: for Brady. It's like you give Brady and he could
- 19:07Speaker 1: do it. Just you could do it, you know, the
- 19:09Speaker 1: game management way, and he could do it the pinball way.
- 19:13Speaker 1: You know what this is. They're talking Tony Romeo, So
- 19:18Speaker 1: get your popcorn ready? Yeah yeah, great team. I that
- 19:21Speaker 1: Miami game was too that. I mean a couple of
- 19:23Speaker 1: those catches Moss had. I think like one of the
- 19:25Speaker 1: guys like fell into cl next to him. Oh yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 1: that's when you just said he did. This is another
- 19:31Speaker 1: one of Eugene Wilson. A lot of guys defending uh Moss.
- 19:37Speaker 1: There was I don't know if it was that year
- 19:39Speaker 1: or the next year. Uh Rivas was guarding. Now Rivas
- 19:43Speaker 1: said he had a hamstring and Moss caught one with
- 19:45Speaker 1: one hand. Yeah. So is this new because it's it's
- 19:49Speaker 1: saying their number seven? What are we talking about? This radio?
- 19:51Speaker 1: So we're watching on fl network right now. I don't
- 19:53Speaker 1: know if it's a new program, but it seems like
- 19:55Speaker 1: this is the uh the Top one hundred series, but
- 19:58Speaker 1: this is top ten teams and they've got the eleven
- 20:00Speaker 1: Patriots at seven. Okay, So I don't know if this
- 20:03Speaker 1: is new new information or a new a new production.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But I don't know, you know, not knowing the other
- 20:09Speaker 1: teams and not giving it a lot of thought. I
- 20:11Speaker 1: think seven is about right. I just wish they would
- 20:14Speaker 1: do one of those uh you know they did one
- 20:16Speaker 1: like the Lost Rings. I think was one of the
- 20:19Speaker 1: where they talk about some of the best teams to
- 20:20Speaker 1: never win a Super Bowl. I'm like, how do you
- 20:22Speaker 1: how do you not do the seven Patriots? They might
- 20:25Speaker 1: be numb one? Right? How were they not number one?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Because we were we were about we were ready to
- 20:29Speaker 1: say they were the best team ever if they had one,
- 20:32Speaker 1: if they're if they're seven on the all time greatest
- 20:35Speaker 1: teams list, that's pretty impressive, right, that's pretty impressive. That
- 20:39Speaker 1: didn't win it, right that game? Yep, you guys are lucky.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Well you weren't involved in that. They didn't go to
- 20:46Speaker 1: you for that. I do not believe that's what I
- 20:48Speaker 1: was expecting to see. I'm not involved in I don't
- 20:51Speaker 1: remember this this particular clip, but that's the kind of
- 20:54Speaker 1: stuff that we were. Andy and I were involved in
- 20:57Speaker 1: the Patriots. And I heard on the Twitter great Vine that, um,
- 21:01Speaker 1: you're going to be on a podcast with with Big Head.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Uh yeah, we just finished it. Yeah with FITZI and Bighead.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Any good? Uh? It was fine. Any disagreements. No, not really,
- 21:14Speaker 1: what are they What drum are they banging these days?
- 21:17Speaker 1: And what do you think we started talking about the
- 21:19Speaker 1: coaches Marcus s Yeah, who is going to So you're
- 21:25Speaker 1: all in agreement for the most part. Wow, well that's
- 21:29Speaker 1: not good, Paul. Wow, that's a great throw right there.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I know you're looking for offense, but they're just gotten
- 21:34Speaker 1: down and run at the plate and a good play
- 21:37Speaker 1: by the textbook and they almost get a double play
- 21:40Speaker 1: out of it. She threw it down to second the
- 21:41Speaker 1: girl was safe. Yeah, Um, what else are we talking about?
- 21:47Speaker 1: Oh no, we're in that void right now. I just
- 21:50Speaker 1: wish there was more. There have been more to kind
- 21:52Speaker 1: of take it on Tuesday, because I feel like last
- 21:55Speaker 1: week we got so much on Monday. We came into
- 21:57Speaker 1: Tuesday show, we had a lot to first kind of
- 21:59Speaker 1: glimpse of everybody Monday, I mean, not Tuesday. This week,
- 22:02Speaker 1: that practice was so low key it was hard to
- 22:05Speaker 1: really come out of it with anything. I had one
- 22:08Speaker 1: more thought on the conditioning aspect from Adrian Phillips press conference.
- 22:13Speaker 1: He said that he thought the conditioning was really essential
- 22:18Speaker 1: because when it comes down to those final moments in
- 22:21Speaker 1: the game, they wanted to be able to finish. And
- 22:23Speaker 1: it made me think and I was like, so, do
- 22:25Speaker 1: we think it was a lack of conditioning, Like were
- 22:28Speaker 1: they exhausted by the end of the game of playing
- 22:30Speaker 1: catch up every like over half the season, or was
- 22:33Speaker 1: it the lack of depth sometimes with so many people.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I think it's all of the above. I think it
- 22:40Speaker 1: was talent, lack of depth, same thing, and they were
- 22:42Speaker 1: just exhausted from Yeah, and I didn't we hear rumors
- 22:46Speaker 1: that there was some COVID going around that wasn't reported.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Maybe it got a little of the COVID. I mean,
- 22:52Speaker 1: it's amazing. I think it's a good thing. I just
- 22:55Speaker 1: lose a game. It's just unbelievable. I like that you
- 22:57Speaker 1: brought that up because that stuck out to me. And
- 23:00Speaker 1: the thing that I thought was, maybe you're doing too
- 23:02Speaker 1: much of this because the last three years you pooped
- 23:05Speaker 1: out at the end. And I hear more about teams
- 23:07Speaker 1: that are running less, that are making sure that they
- 23:09Speaker 1: monitor It's just something. Yeah. But see, I don't think
- 23:14Speaker 1: they're conditioning changed how they conditioned. I just think that
- 23:18Speaker 1: they weren't as good. That's what I mean. I think
- 23:21Speaker 1: the bottom line is you're right, yeah, but I think
- 23:24Speaker 1: one of the things about the timing of the runs,
- 23:28Speaker 1: like are they looking at that trying to find different ways?
- 23:32Speaker 1: Because I agree with with Mike if you listen around
- 23:34Speaker 1: the league, and we saw it firsthand when we were
- 23:36Speaker 1: in Philadelphia last year Nick Sirianni all the Eagles, they
- 23:40Speaker 1: talked about they practiced a little bit less in an
- 23:43Speaker 1: effort to keep them off their feet, off their feet.
- 23:46Speaker 1: It wasn't a very good team, found a way to
- 23:47Speaker 1: make the playoffs. Yea Eagles, Yeah, the Eagles. Um, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: remember that. People were questioning him right like is this
- 23:54Speaker 1: gonna work? Right? And I'm not telling you it worked
- 23:56Speaker 1: because they went like nine and eight, made the playoffs
- 23:58Speaker 1: and it's not like they had a great year, but
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's not a great team. First year coach, with the
- 24:03Speaker 1: first year quarterback in Jalen Hurts. They found a way
- 24:06Speaker 1: to win enough games and be better in the second
- 24:09Speaker 1: half of the season than they were in the first. So,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know, just anecdotally, you can look and say, well,
- 24:15Speaker 1: maybe some of the ways they trained were more effective.
- 24:18Speaker 1: And Mike is right. You hear this around the league
- 24:20Speaker 1: a lot. We're doing some things a little bit differently.
- 24:22Speaker 1: We're doing less of this, that and the other thing.
- 24:25Speaker 1: We're relying more on the players to sort of arrive
- 24:28Speaker 1: in shape and whatnot. And Bill talks about that a lot,
- 24:32Speaker 1: like he's pretty I think he mentioned specifically about the rookies.
- 24:36Speaker 1: He felt pretty good about the overall condition of the
- 24:39Speaker 1: rookies when they got for their rookie minicamp. And I
- 24:41Speaker 1: just wonder if maybe the Patriots are looking for different ways,
- 24:45Speaker 1: because Mike is right, look at the way that they
- 24:47Speaker 1: finished the seasons, not necessarily falling apart in the second
- 24:50Speaker 1: half of games, but the second half of the season. Right,
- 24:53Speaker 1: this is now a couple of years in a row.
- 24:55Speaker 1: They haven't played their best football at the end. I mean,
- 24:59Speaker 1: arguably their worst football this year this year. But like
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know, like okay, so right, what about all those
- 25:07Speaker 1: years that they did get better at the end, you know,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I know, And that's and that's why I well, it's
- 25:12Speaker 1: talent in an opponent, Yeah, you know, like I think
- 25:15Speaker 1: it's it's easy to sit there and say, well, they
- 25:18Speaker 1: ran out of gas, they didn't play well at the end. Well,
- 25:20Speaker 1: they also played Buffalo twice and in Indianapolis and in Miami,
- 25:24Speaker 1: and they played some more difficult opponents at the end too.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It was just the Patriots offense was like too slow.
- 25:31Speaker 1: They got off so slow, and by that point the
- 25:33Speaker 1: defense is forced to get kind of what we're talking
- 25:35Speaker 1: about earlier. They have to get all these stops and
- 25:37Speaker 1: they're burned out. They needed the games to unfold in
- 25:40Speaker 1: their favor, and when they did, it was great, and
- 25:43Speaker 1: when it didn't they had trouble changing it um. But
- 25:45Speaker 1: one more piece I wanted to bring up to was,
- 25:47Speaker 1: you know, Jude On saying last year that they squat
- 25:49Speaker 1: here more than anywhere else. So I don't know, I mean,
- 25:52Speaker 1: I always I want to believe that teams that that
- 25:54Speaker 1: work hard are going to be successful. I don't. You
- 25:56Speaker 1: don't want to say, oh, they're doing too much. But
- 25:59Speaker 1: it's just something about let me go back to that,
- 26:01Speaker 1: he said they squat more. Yeah, last year. It was
- 26:05Speaker 1: something he could in other places, and he came from
- 26:07Speaker 1: the Ravens, right. You know, you would think if there's
- 26:09Speaker 1: a team that's in the weight room doing the heavy stuff,
- 26:12Speaker 1: it's the Ravens, right right. It is interesting because you
- 26:15Speaker 1: hear I do hear a lot of newcomers come in
- 26:19Speaker 1: and talk specifically about the differences here. You know that
- 26:23Speaker 1: the work is a little bit different here. You remember
- 26:26Speaker 1: Patricia try to have them run in Detroit and they
- 26:28Speaker 1: were like, wow, what are you doing? You know? So hey,
- 26:32Speaker 1: I do think that they might do a little bit
- 26:34Speaker 1: differently and maybe even more than other places. I remember
- 26:37Speaker 1: back in the day, Johnny Parker was the strength and
- 26:41Speaker 1: conditioning coach and he swore by squats. He was like,
- 26:45Speaker 1: you gotta do squats, squats of the thing, you know.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And then he was Parcel's guy. And then you wonder if, like,
- 26:55Speaker 1: how much of a holdover is it from john the
- 26:57Speaker 1: Johnny Parker days? And then Mike wait wait White? Yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 1: yeah he was then the next guy. He's still with Dallas.
- 27:04Speaker 1: He's a Walpole guy. Oh really, Yeah, I didn't know that. Yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think it was Westwood. Oh, Westwood, Yeah, okay, And
- 27:10Speaker 1: it was one of those ws look at you, hey,
- 27:13Speaker 1: high school, high School, River I'm not, don't hold me
- 27:16Speaker 1: to that one, but I think it was west Yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 1: he's a local guy though, Yeah, I think. Um, the
- 27:20Speaker 1: reason I knew that is Jackie McMullen. You know Jackie,
- 27:24Speaker 1: Jackie mack I do. She was from Westwood and she knew.
- 27:27Speaker 1: She used to call him Mikey, okay, Mikey like they were.
- 27:31Speaker 1: They were kind of friends. And then you know he
- 27:32Speaker 1: became a coach of the Patriots and couldn't talk to
- 27:35Speaker 1: him anymore, right, couldn't give her all those secrets to
- 27:38Speaker 1: strength and conditioning. Yeah, he was a guy that scary looking.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, you didn't want to like he was
- 27:44Speaker 1: an intimidates had like a child. He doesn't talk, he growls. Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: they certainly have a type. Yeah, kids, But Moses is
- 27:55Speaker 1: I mean, he's a little bit outside the box. But
- 27:57Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, I just I wonder if
- 28:01Speaker 1: are you clinging to what you used to do? Well?
- 28:05Speaker 1: I mean, if I was the head coach, I would
- 28:07Speaker 1: insist that my head of conditioning look at all the
- 28:12Speaker 1: trends and especially what they're doing in college, because that's
- 28:14Speaker 1: where they do the R and D. You know, like
- 28:16Speaker 1: a lot of these schools research. You know, they look
- 28:20Speaker 1: at new innovation and techniques, and I'd insist that they,
- 28:24Speaker 1: you know, stay abreast of all the new stuff. There's
- 28:27Speaker 1: so many new things. Like when I was at another Dame,
- 28:30Speaker 1: they were like coming out with like different heart rate
- 28:33Speaker 1: monitors that they can wear during practice where they can
- 28:35Speaker 1: track certain things. And I was like, that is incredible. Yeah,
- 28:38Speaker 1: I mean a lot of like you always hear like
- 28:40Speaker 1: people talk about like the old athletes and like, oh,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know, they wouldn't be as good today because they're
- 28:45Speaker 1: faster and well, they would have the same training that
- 28:49Speaker 1: these guys. They wouldn't just be doing curls. I did
- 28:52Speaker 1: my six sets of curls. I'm good to go, right,
- 28:54Speaker 1: They would do what the modern athletes do. Do you
- 28:56Speaker 1: think that maybe, you know the fact that I smoked
- 28:59Speaker 1: two packs a day, you know, hurt me athletically, I
- 29:02Speaker 1: can in nineteen fifty eight. Yeah, like you just didn't.
- 29:05Speaker 1: They didn't know, right, and they would have access to
- 29:07Speaker 1: all of the advantages that you have. Yeah, but I
- 29:10Speaker 1: mean to Tomorrow's point, even being at holy Cross just
- 29:13Speaker 1: as you know, I was part of that strength program
- 29:16Speaker 1: with the with the hockey team. But you know, you
- 29:18Speaker 1: just see how much it's changed what they do. I mean,
- 29:20Speaker 1: the use of like rubber bands now like everywhere rubber
- 29:23Speaker 1: bands and um, you know, I think some of the
- 29:26Speaker 1: stuff stays the same with squats, I mean in the
- 29:28Speaker 1: in the cleans and that that kind of it's not
- 29:30Speaker 1: like sports anywhere, doing all the squads and you know
- 29:33Speaker 1: you're getting a good pomp up when you're um. But
- 29:36Speaker 1: it's just it's remarkable even and I always look like
- 29:38Speaker 1: Mike Boyle be you, I mean, he's kind of like
- 29:40Speaker 1: infamous and especially in hockey but in sports in general.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And you know just how much it's changed, even for
- 29:46Speaker 1: the cutting edge guys, how much more knowledge they have
- 29:48Speaker 1: now of um, you know, single legs stuff versus double
- 29:51Speaker 1: Just how much that training has evolved over over the time.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I'm sure that they're on the cutting edge of it,
- 29:57Speaker 1: but you know, I just I do wonder if you're
- 30:00Speaker 1: if you're still kind of doing things the way you
- 30:02Speaker 1: did it, or is this you want I mean, I
- 30:03Speaker 1: want to believe. I want to believe that that the
- 30:05Speaker 1: hard work pays off and that if you're running in
- 30:07Speaker 1: squatting in June, it will pay off down the line.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But yeah, I also just want them to finish and
- 30:13Speaker 1: look and look like they're playing their their best and
- 30:15Speaker 1: strongest football at the end. So maybe they were a
- 30:18Speaker 1: little related, maybe not at all. Yeah, it might be
- 30:21Speaker 1: some of that, but like I said, over the last
- 30:24Speaker 1: twenty years, you know, they conditioned, they did pretty well,
- 30:29Speaker 1: pretty successful program, pretty well at the back half of
- 30:32Speaker 1: the So it's gotta be yea, mostly they just weren't
- 30:39Speaker 1: well the hill too, right, I mean the hill is
- 30:40Speaker 1: like a feature here that that that was like specifically
- 30:43Speaker 1: installed for that purpose. And when we were at Philadelphia,
- 30:47Speaker 1: they ain't no hills at their practice facility. That's a
- 30:49Speaker 1: straight you know kind of I think. So it's it's
- 30:51Speaker 1: it's certainly ingrained and um you know. But but again
- 30:55Speaker 1: another point of it is that when they were run
- 30:57Speaker 1: at the start of practice, they were on the flat
- 30:59Speaker 1: the field. I've never seen that since I've been here,
- 31:01Speaker 1: that they were running just doing sprints on the practice
- 31:04Speaker 1: fields and not down below up the hill where we
- 31:07Speaker 1: couldn't really see him. Yeah, remember before Serriani obviously at Philadelphia.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Chip Kelly came into the league and he did all
- 31:16Speaker 1: this stuff at Oregon, and so he tried to bring
- 31:18Speaker 1: that into the NFL, like the sleep and and all
- 31:21Speaker 1: that stuff. I do remember that. Yeah, but he didn't
- 31:25Speaker 1: last He didn't last long, and I'm assuming his program
- 31:27Speaker 1: didn't either. At least ten hours of sleep every night. Yeah, Okay,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I think you're the bottom line is you're right, Like
- 31:34Speaker 1: if you have the players, you're going to succeed. Right.
- 31:36Speaker 1: It's not like we did too many squads. So it's
- 31:38Speaker 1: not like the team. Yeah, it's not like the team
- 31:41Speaker 1: with the best players just said, we're so good, we
- 31:43Speaker 1: don't need to we don't need to condition. You know,
- 31:46Speaker 1: just eat cheeseburgers every day, be like Parillo and just
- 31:49Speaker 1: be fat and not be able to run. But you're
- 31:51Speaker 1: so good you'll be okay. Like, no one would do that, right,
- 31:55Speaker 1: you know, everybody conditions to some extent. Yeah, and then
- 31:58Speaker 1: it comes down to talent yep. And and friend's right.
- 32:01Speaker 1: When they when they had the better players, they generally
- 32:03Speaker 1: came out on top. Yep. You know football began in November,
- 32:07Speaker 1: and that's when they played their best football and had
- 32:10Speaker 1: a little bit to do with who they were. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you know, let's get back to that. Yeah, well, who
- 32:16Speaker 1: said we couldn't talk football? Yeah, conditioning. Mac Jones is
- 32:20Speaker 1: in condition right perfect. Yeah, although he's a better athlete
- 32:24Speaker 1: than you think too. That's what they telerated. That's what
- 32:27Speaker 1: they tell about. You could scoose what some guy tells you.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Some guy, some anonymous AFC scouts wisely didn't put his
- 32:36Speaker 1: name to that on the move, Yeah, throwing on the move.
- 32:38Speaker 1: We're gonna bring back Texas as uh your wing tea.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'm curious how mac uh you know, he talked a
- 32:46Speaker 1: little bit last week. It is a has it availability
- 32:49Speaker 1: trying to get used to everything, the environment around here
- 32:51Speaker 1: and stuff. And I mean, I think Paul pointed out
- 32:53Speaker 1: right before that that Buffalo, that first Buffalo game. Um,
- 32:57Speaker 1: it's like, man, he looks cold right now. And I
- 33:01Speaker 1: just wonder if if if you're really able to get
- 33:04Speaker 1: used to it, Like I don't know, I like Brady
- 33:07Speaker 1: never really had it. I guess San Francisco, Michigan maybe
- 33:09Speaker 1: a little bit, but he just always seemed comfortable in it.
- 33:13Speaker 1: It's like he did play in bad weather a little
- 33:16Speaker 1: bit being well, but I mean, Michigan's not a picnic
- 33:18Speaker 1: in November, you know. It's it's there's something you can
- 33:22Speaker 1: like get used to and get better like you can.
- 33:23Speaker 1: How many being in the Big ten games do you
- 33:26Speaker 1: see that there's not something coming down from the sky.
- 33:29Speaker 1: But here's the thing about Brady, It's not like I
- 33:32Speaker 1: don't care what the weather is. He did to a
- 33:35Speaker 1: point where if you go to his locker, he had
- 33:38Speaker 1: his gloves and cleats labeled like for what the weather
- 33:42Speaker 1: was like based on temperature. Yeah, he would wear different gloves,
- 33:46Speaker 1: different cleats, so he was very aware of what the
- 33:49Speaker 1: conditions were and he prepared for those conditions. But I
- 33:53Speaker 1: agree with Mike. I think it's more of a mentality. Yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and I think I remember saying that that night and
- 33:59Speaker 1: it was only half tongue in cheek. He looked cold
- 34:02Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, but he did look cold, even like
- 34:04Speaker 1: Josh Allen's stats for like when the temperature was like
- 34:07Speaker 1: under what was it thirty? Yeah, we're very interesting as well,
- 34:11Speaker 1: considering he went to school in the Midwest and played
- 34:15Speaker 1: in the cold as well. And then yeah, no, it
- 34:17Speaker 1: isn't the cold again, so it's like that's why. And
- 34:20Speaker 1: then through for four thousand yards in a playoff game,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you know, when it was like ten degrees up, he
- 34:24Speaker 1: just got another friend like, yeah, as friend says, I mean,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I just want them to punt. Yeah, no, I know,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I know, I just but it is I think it's
- 34:33Speaker 1: some kind of a thing. I think it's something you
- 34:34Speaker 1: have to get accustomed to. And with Mac, I go
- 34:38Speaker 1: back to when he spoke on the Tuesday, the first day,
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Monday the twenty third, the first Ota and Tamarrow.
- 34:45Speaker 1: You brought this up on the show about how we
- 34:47Speaker 1: talked about throwing in the off season in as many
- 34:50Speaker 1: different weather conditions as he could. That tells me that
- 34:52Speaker 1: it was on his mind, right, Yeah, right, That's why
- 34:55Speaker 1: it's as much about mentality as anything else it is.
- 34:58Speaker 1: You know, it's a it is a a lot of
- 35:00Speaker 1: overcoming it mentally. Yeah, and there's there's different ways to
- 35:03Speaker 1: do it. Like Brady overcame it by recognizing it, acknowledging it,
- 35:08Speaker 1: and preparing for it. Other people just I'm just going
- 35:11Speaker 1: to ignore. Yeah, I'm just gonna like pretend it's not cold.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I mean make an argument that passing wise, just from
- 35:18Speaker 1: a pure passing perspective, his best performance his first year
- 35:22Speaker 1: was in the snow, and you know he through if
- 35:25Speaker 1: it three hundred and fifty four yards and throw it
- 35:27Speaker 1: fifty some odd times, Like I don't know if he
- 35:31Speaker 1: was thinking about all the different equipment that he needed then.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I don't know if he had gotten the different gloves
- 35:36Speaker 1: if it was thirty two as opposed to twenty eight
- 35:39Speaker 1: like he did in his career. Yeah, I did just
- 35:42Speaker 1: think it's it's kind of a mentality and Matt you know,
- 35:44Speaker 1: just because he didn't do great in bad weather last
- 35:47Speaker 1: year doesn't mean he never will. Yeah. And I also
- 35:50Speaker 1: think for a guy like Brady, where you're precise, you
- 35:53Speaker 1: know the routes, you know what you're looking at. If
- 35:56Speaker 1: it's a slippery game like a snowy game, I think
- 35:59Speaker 1: the offense actually has an advantage, yeah, because they know
- 36:01Speaker 1: where they're going. Sure, defense has to react, so if
- 36:04Speaker 1: you're on time where you throw, the guy's always going
- 36:07Speaker 1: to be open at first. I remember that game in
- 36:08Speaker 1: Chicago that year. Um, it was like bad snow and
- 36:16Speaker 1: they just went up twenty ten with with branch sounds right,
- 36:20Speaker 1: sideline sounds right right before the half. See that one.
- 36:23Speaker 1: You get a little freak da game too. That's exactly
- 36:26Speaker 1: the game I'm talking about. It was down there at
- 36:28Speaker 1: the end of the half like they looked like they
- 36:29Speaker 1: were just going to run it out like a little
- 36:31Speaker 1: like fifteen yard pass, there's no one there banged. Yeah,
- 36:34Speaker 1: it's like a seventy yard touchdown. Yeah. But they lit
- 36:37Speaker 1: it up that day offensively in the snow, you know,
- 36:40Speaker 1: probably partly for what you were talking about. For Yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 1: I act did pretty good. Um, you know, in the
- 36:45Speaker 1: in the rain light rain against the Bucks. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 1: he had a pretty good, you know, completion wise game
- 36:50Speaker 1: against them. But it's something he's going to have to
- 36:52Speaker 1: deal with. I just I just wonder if can you
- 36:54Speaker 1: get too much in your own head about that, Like
- 36:56Speaker 1: is it you know, if you think it's an issue,
- 36:58Speaker 1: does it then become an is because you're thinking about it?
- 37:01Speaker 1: It's a you know, it's a mental thing as much
- 37:03Speaker 1: as it is physical. This makes me want to have
- 37:05Speaker 1: a college football playoffs in like Minnesota and genuine we'll
- 37:09Speaker 1: find out who the real football players are. And if
- 37:11Speaker 1: you think, if you look at all the national championships,
- 37:14Speaker 1: they've been predominantly in warm places or in a dome.
- 37:17Speaker 1: So it'd be interesting to see a school like Alabama
- 37:20Speaker 1: come up and play in the Midwest. Yeah. Well they
- 37:22Speaker 1: have those those destinations. It's not for the players, it's
- 37:25Speaker 1: for the fans. Yeah. They want people to come and
- 37:28Speaker 1: spend money and spend a few days that you do
- 37:31Speaker 1: the same thing in the Super Bowl. Yeah, it's oh yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I mean I want to see who in Minnesota. I
- 37:35Speaker 1: will see who the better mine is too, but it's
- 37:38Speaker 1: in the door. But I like, I want to see
- 37:41Speaker 1: who the better team is. It's not who the team
- 37:42Speaker 1: that handles the You've always been like that, you want
- 37:44Speaker 1: to start. I don't like. I don't I'm not a
- 37:47Speaker 1: huge dome guy. I don't love domes. But I'd rather
- 37:51Speaker 1: have a game in a dome than a game in
- 37:52Speaker 1: a blizzard. And I know ninety nine percent of the
- 37:55Speaker 1: people listening probably disagree with me. They love the snow
- 37:59Speaker 1: and the mud. It's what you find out who's got hot. Yeah,
- 38:03Speaker 1: I just want to know who the better team. Yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 1: the asterisk. You know, like the Monday night game in
- 38:09Speaker 1: Buffalo last year, right, it like it was the Patriots,
- 38:12Speaker 1: Like the Patriots were better because you know, they scored
- 38:15Speaker 1: a couple more points in a day where you couldn't
- 38:17Speaker 1: throw the ball. Yeah. I would be more impressed with
- 38:20Speaker 1: that win. If they follow it up and beating them,
- 38:22Speaker 1: then less severe. Well yeah, but you know when you
- 38:27Speaker 1: follow it up and they run up and down the
- 38:29Speaker 1: field twice in the next two games, you know that
- 38:31Speaker 1: the only reason why you won that, That's what I'm saying,
- 38:33Speaker 1: was the condition, That's what I'm saying. And if that
- 38:36Speaker 1: was happening to be like the championship, like that would
- 38:40Speaker 1: suck to me. Yeah, yeah, you know what, you know
- 38:42Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, remember the game probably about seven
- 38:48Speaker 1: years ago. It was the Giants and the Packers and
- 38:52Speaker 1: Coughlin was the coach. Oh and oh my god, I
- 38:56Speaker 1: felt so bad. I thought that that was eleven. I
- 39:00Speaker 1: think it was eleven, the NFC Championship, right, Yeah, I
- 39:03Speaker 1: thought it. Can we get frost bite? I really it
- 39:05Speaker 1: might have been the first one. It might have been seven. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 1: it might have been over seven. Yeah, when he had
- 39:09Speaker 1: all the little splotches on his face, I thought he
- 39:12Speaker 1: was Yeah, I thought he was in trouble that because
- 39:13Speaker 1: you've you've played in cold, right, Like, It's not that
- 39:17Speaker 1: I don't care what anyone says. No one likes it.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It sucks, especially your fingers. That's the first thing I
- 39:22Speaker 1: think I think about is I've never played in that
- 39:24Speaker 1: kind of fingers. That's different getting like, you know, smacked
- 39:28Speaker 1: on a helmet. My last every game was in a
- 39:31Speaker 1: in a snowstorm on Thanksgiving, but not you know, it
- 39:34Speaker 1: was probably like thirty degrees not you know, minus five, right, Yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 1: I don't know. Usually when you get going too though,
- 39:40Speaker 1: you warm up, like at least hockey wise, like games
- 39:43Speaker 1: that were like, oh, it's gonna be really cold holderness
- 39:45Speaker 1: outdoor rink in New Hampshire. Oh it's coldest day of
- 39:48Speaker 1: they Once you get going, you know, you don't even
- 39:49Speaker 1: realize it's that. I was cold on that Thanksgiving because
- 39:52Speaker 1: we blew them out and we didn't get to play
- 39:53Speaker 1: in the second half. We were just sitting around watching
- 39:56Speaker 1: all the young kids play. All right, eight five five
- 39:59Speaker 1: past five hund It is the A Sticket hotline. Web
- 40:01Speaker 1: radio at pages dot com is the email address. Let's
- 40:04Speaker 1: hear what people are thinking. We'll go to Christian in LA.
- 40:08Speaker 1: What's up Christian? Hey, good thing you guys get to
- 40:12Speaker 1: hear from you guys and watching my subject matter going
- 40:14Speaker 1: on today. But yeah, let's get the football. Football football.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Sure have you guys actually seen um Tyclon Thornton run
- 40:22Speaker 1: any routes as far as his fluidity and uh stopping,
- 40:26Speaker 1: stopping go. And then also, I'm really interested in this
- 40:30Speaker 1: um this running back Pierre Strong. I think his name
- 40:33Speaker 1: is just stroke myself. Yea, I really think he could
- 40:36Speaker 1: be a really suitable replacement for James Wikes considering his
- 40:40Speaker 1: big strength as I'm reading, is catching the ball the
- 40:42Speaker 1: backfield when he's got four something for three speed. That's
- 40:46Speaker 1: his big strength. Pierre Strong's big strength is his speed.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Um for thought. More into what I'm reading on on
- 40:53Speaker 1: the board on these college website here and also on ESPN.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He's a hands guy. Yeah, his his colleague with hand
- 41:04Speaker 1: ok okay, yeah, I mean, well, Paul, go ahead, I'm good,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I'm good. I read it on on the website practice field.
- 41:15Speaker 1: He hasn't practiced. He hasn't really done anything practice yet.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I think he's probably dealing with an injury. Seems like
- 41:22Speaker 1: it because he hasn't really been very involved. Yes on
- 41:25Speaker 1: Thornton uh tall skinny, I mean it doesn't it doesn't
- 41:30Speaker 1: look like little quick areas stuff. I mean, I'm sure
- 41:33Speaker 1: he can run a little slant across the middle and
- 41:35Speaker 1: catch it. But I think you know underneath little whip
- 41:38Speaker 1: routes that kind of stuff. Edelman. Though I haven't seen
- 41:40Speaker 1: the change of direction. I haven't seen lateral quickness. I
- 41:44Speaker 1: have seen straight line speed though. Yeah, I mean as
- 41:46Speaker 1: advertised and sense of humor. I told you I found
- 41:49Speaker 1: him delightful on Tuesday, just delightful, like the question of
- 41:54Speaker 1: the day. But do we have any idea what kind
- 41:58Speaker 1: of offense we're going to be running. I mean, are
- 42:00Speaker 1: we gonna try to stick somewhat to the system and
- 42:02Speaker 1: just have someone those doing the plays? Are we gonna
- 42:04Speaker 1: just you know this news. I'm really confused as to
- 42:07Speaker 1: what we're gonna do. Is great new pieces we've seen
- 42:10Speaker 1: to have if we're not going to be running a
- 42:12Speaker 1: variation of our usual offense. I mean, I I think
- 42:16Speaker 1: you're it's still gonna be game plan what you know,
- 42:20Speaker 1: go try to get the right matchups. Um, but like
- 42:24Speaker 1: who knows. I think you're still going to see a
- 42:26Speaker 1: lot of combination routes where you're looking to get you know,
- 42:29Speaker 1: matchups and picks and you know that kind of stuff
- 42:33Speaker 1: that they've always relied on a lot of timing, you know,
- 42:36Speaker 1: a lot of quick quick throws. I don't think you're
- 42:39Speaker 1: going to see like an overhaul of the offense. I
- 42:41Speaker 1: think it's going to be the same system right with tweaks.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Thanks for Mac Jones that that Mac Jones does better.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And it's like hardly what would you say the Patriots
- 42:49Speaker 1: offense hasn't done? Like what don't they do? Like they're
- 42:52Speaker 1: a multiple offense, they do a little of everything. I mean,
- 42:54Speaker 1: it's hard to say, like, if you're gonna say, how
- 42:56Speaker 1: is the offense going to change? I feel like it
- 42:58Speaker 1: would be dumbed down and simplified that that's the only
- 43:00Speaker 1: way to go. I mean we talked earlier, you know,
- 43:02Speaker 1: when they brought in Randy Moss and that having Moss
- 43:06Speaker 1: gave you that option that you know, like to be
- 43:09Speaker 1: successful down the field. There. To me, there isn't a
- 43:13Speaker 1: player that they've brought in over the last two years that, oh,
- 43:16Speaker 1: because of him, we can now do things that we
- 43:19Speaker 1: haven't been doing. You know, I think maybe you could
- 43:22Speaker 1: do them bet what you've been doing better. But like,
- 43:25Speaker 1: there's no one that's changing the offense on this No,
- 43:28Speaker 1: I would just say the only changes the full back
- 43:30Speaker 1: position that don't have one right now. Yeah, it seems
- 43:32Speaker 1: like the league is moving more towards a lot of
- 43:34Speaker 1: them pre snap movement and you know, uh sort of
- 43:38Speaker 1: speed speed based um routes and concept. We haven't really
- 43:43Speaker 1: done that a ton of Yeah, we do a lot
- 43:46Speaker 1: of pre snap movement. But I think what you're saying
- 43:48Speaker 1: is they have mobile quarterbacks. Is that what you're saying,
- 43:51Speaker 1: And that's not going to be there. We don't have that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I'm talking about I'm talking about like the casey where
- 43:56Speaker 1: there's a lot of sort of like you know, the
- 43:58Speaker 1: two guys move at the same time in the back,
- 44:00Speaker 1: and a lot of speed based movement concepts. Yes, we
- 44:03Speaker 1: have done concept of the movement, but that's primarily been
- 44:05Speaker 1: for Tom to check the speedle doing but man or
- 44:07Speaker 1: his own Okay, talking about you know, so you're saying
- 44:10Speaker 1: that maybe you know, because they have Thornton and Pierre Strong,
- 44:14Speaker 1: who are you know, sub four three guys or four
- 44:17Speaker 1: three guys, we might see more speed based things. I
- 44:20Speaker 1: don't know. I you know, I'm still the offense evolved
- 44:23Speaker 1: to to to the talent that we have instead of
- 44:26Speaker 1: like it's been before, where the talent has to sort
- 44:29Speaker 1: of fit into the offense. And that's been a problem
- 44:31Speaker 1: for us, especially with receivers, because we have had guys
- 44:34Speaker 1: with some with with actual physical talent, but it's been
- 44:37Speaker 1: that that thing, right, they haven't been able to fit
- 44:38Speaker 1: and get the offense. Can we still do you think
- 44:41Speaker 1: we can involve to a place where we're like looking
- 44:43Speaker 1: at out of talent and going let's just do in
- 44:45Speaker 1: every position with these guys, will I know? But okay,
- 44:48Speaker 1: but look look at the Patriots offense over the last
- 44:51Speaker 1: twenty years, even including Cam Newton because he was out
- 44:54Speaker 1: of his prime and he was less of a mobile
- 44:56Speaker 1: guy than he was. You know, there's nothing. You still
- 45:00Speaker 1: have Mac Jones as the quarterback. The offense runs through
- 45:04Speaker 1: the quarterback. You know, the skills of your quarterback dictate
- 45:07Speaker 1: your offense. And so we're still looking at the similar
- 45:11Speaker 1: offense that they've been running for the last twenty years. Now,
- 45:14Speaker 1: can Pierre Strong oh faster than James White? Maybe? I
- 45:18Speaker 1: mean I wouldn't expect Pierre Strong or Taekwon Thornton to
- 45:21Speaker 1: be major parts of what they're doing this year. Now,
- 45:24Speaker 1: what you want is them to show development, show some promise,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and then next year, when you know probably you're going
- 45:32Speaker 1: to be without like Agalore and maybe even Jacobe Myers,
- 45:36Speaker 1: you have Thornton to replace, you know those guys and
- 45:40Speaker 1: move up the depth chart and you're probably without James
- 45:42Speaker 1: White and you'll have Strong to replace. As Christian said,
- 45:45Speaker 1: you know that pass catching kind of a role and
- 45:47Speaker 1: you have that kind of speed. But I just don't
- 45:49Speaker 1: know how how do you identify pre snap movement as
- 45:52Speaker 1: not being speed based. It's just you know this, like, yeah,
- 45:57Speaker 1: a million of them, and you know Kendrick Bourne was
- 46:00Speaker 1: was effective in that role last year. You want to
- 46:02Speaker 1: go back to what Fred talked about. They injected as
- 46:05Speaker 1: fast and wide receiver as you've seen in the league
- 46:07Speaker 1: in the last twenty five years. And Randy must they
- 46:09Speaker 1: still did the same concepts. It was still Welker underneath,
- 46:13Speaker 1: but we're going to take shots downfield to an elite
- 46:15Speaker 1: speed guy. Like, yeah, I don't think you have to
- 46:18Speaker 1: overhaul the offense because you have some speedy guys. Now,
- 46:21Speaker 1: what you hope is those speedy guys give you big
- 46:23Speaker 1: playability that you didn't have like Randy Mosky. Do you
- 46:28Speaker 1: guys think I never heard you stay this last season?
- 46:30Speaker 1: Several times we had covered the base on it that
- 46:32Speaker 1: we're at a place now with maybe a new coordinator
- 46:35Speaker 1: where where we will start using some of the younger
- 46:37Speaker 1: guys sooner who's the new coordinator? Yeah, that that argument
- 46:43Speaker 1: to me is on defense. Like, I just don't think
- 46:45Speaker 1: that they have like I don't think they've made I
- 46:48Speaker 1: don't think Thornton and Strong are going to be in
- 46:51Speaker 1: position to be major contributors. Do you probably? Well? I
- 46:56Speaker 1: think again, I go back to this thing, I hope
- 46:58Speaker 1: not because I hope, you know, Damian Harris and Stevenson
- 47:03Speaker 1: and James White are you know, leading the way. But
- 47:07Speaker 1: you know, if like if if pr strongestn't practicing already beginning. Yeah,
- 47:17Speaker 1: but I don't you know what I don't want it's
- 47:19Speaker 1: like more of that. It was, I hear you, Christian,
- 47:24Speaker 1: But it was about execution. It's not like you know,
- 47:28Speaker 1: what they you know, uh did last year was different
- 47:32Speaker 1: than what they tried to do twenty years ago. They
- 47:34Speaker 1: just weren't as good at it. Yeah, you know, it's
- 47:37Speaker 1: what I'm hoping for more than Thornton and strong Is.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm hoping that uh, you know, the four offensive guys
- 47:45Speaker 1: that they brought in last year, take those two, you know,
- 47:48Speaker 1: that second year free agent jump and that Parker, Yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and then and then Parker. You know, I'm hoping that
- 47:54Speaker 1: you get more out of those guys. Yeah. And I
- 47:56Speaker 1: think you're right about the guys that were here last
- 47:59Speaker 1: year that could be little bit better, right, And I
- 48:01Speaker 1: think Mac Jones is a big part of that. Ye,
- 48:03Speaker 1: you need Mac Jones to be better, of course, right,
- 48:06Speaker 1: it starts with him. I think that's a big part
- 48:08Speaker 1: of it too, Just the continuity listen to agal Or talk.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Just his degree of comfort knowing what to do, having
- 48:15Speaker 1: experience doing it, not having to translate anything when he
- 48:18Speaker 1: hears it. You know, I think that's definitely worth something.
- 48:20Speaker 1: But I do think Paul has a has a valid
- 48:22Speaker 1: point that we've talked all offseason about getting faster. How
- 48:26Speaker 1: many pieces on offense have you really added that are
- 48:29Speaker 1: faster that are going to play? Hard to say right
- 48:31Speaker 1: here in twenty twenty two. Maybe next year with Strong
- 48:34Speaker 1: and Thornton, but they may not be faster, but maybe
- 48:37Speaker 1: these guys can play. But I think no one where
- 48:39Speaker 1: to be right right. That's and that's a Mac thing too.
- 48:41Speaker 1: That's a you know, again, every every time I catch
- 48:44Speaker 1: one of the games from last year when they're running
- 48:46Speaker 1: on the NFL network, I've got him enjoy just getting
- 48:47Speaker 1: another look at some of them. But you know, just
- 48:49Speaker 1: some of the mental mistakes, the pre snap stuff, you know,
- 48:52Speaker 1: not getting not getting it off before the play clock,
- 48:54Speaker 1: knowing the situation. I think he'll be better at all
- 48:56Speaker 1: those things. And you know, when you're not going backwards,
- 48:59Speaker 1: it gives you more op timunical forwards. Horrific call they
- 49:02Speaker 1: just made on replay in that softball game. They called
- 49:06Speaker 1: her out. He ran straight to the bag and the
- 49:08Speaker 1: ball went right over her head. Like this was not
- 49:10Speaker 1: interference in any way. I didn't think it was either,
- 49:13Speaker 1: Like she didn't know that the ball was going to
- 49:14Speaker 1: hit and she she wasn't out of the baseline. She
- 49:16Speaker 1: was right on the baseline, ran right through the bag
- 49:18Speaker 1: and the ball went over her head. Yeah. I don't
- 49:20Speaker 1: know how. I mean, I can't hear what they're saying
- 49:22Speaker 1: in commentary, but college softball show, yep, I'm here for
- 49:29Speaker 1: I had a friend who was a pitcher for softball,
- 49:31Speaker 1: and with that wind up and stuff, they actually measured
- 49:34Speaker 1: his arm and because he started pitching when he's about
- 49:36Speaker 1: six or seven, and it was about an into just bizarre. Wow,
- 49:42Speaker 1: oh LinkedIn's arm. Huh. Actually they say that when it
- 49:46Speaker 1: comes to uh wear and tear on the shoulder, the
- 49:49Speaker 1: underhand pitch is more natural than over that that's why
- 49:54Speaker 1: you could pitch every day. Yeah. Yeah, Anyway, My big
- 50:00Speaker 1: thing is, you guys been talking about two thousand and
- 50:02Speaker 1: seven and previous incarnations of the of the team, and
- 50:05Speaker 1: I'm just wondering, with the evolution of the game, how
- 50:09Speaker 1: do you think that two thousand and seven team would
- 50:11Speaker 1: have done like last year or the year before with
- 50:13Speaker 1: the other high powered offensive teams in there, and especially
- 50:16Speaker 1: because I feel felt that our two thousand and seven
- 50:18Speaker 1: defense was a little suspect. It was about slowly, it
- 50:23Speaker 1: was all speed issues that that could be, that could be.
- 50:26Speaker 1: But I think that offense you put against anybody modern day, yeah,
- 50:30Speaker 1: I mean they have every cool as long as the
- 50:32Speaker 1: offensive lines playing well. Yeah. See, that's kind of what
- 50:37Speaker 1: I want to get at, because I think I think,
- 50:39Speaker 1: you know, a lot of people were worried about Bill
- 50:41Speaker 1: being able to move forward and keep up with the
- 50:43Speaker 1: pace of the game and the innovation and change, and
- 50:46Speaker 1: I think Bill was already there. I think Bill realized
- 50:48Speaker 1: that you if you can get your offense going, you
- 50:51Speaker 1: can win a lot of games. Yeah. Who doesn't know that. Yeah,
- 50:57Speaker 1: there's a lot of people that's still safe defense wins oh,
- 51:00Speaker 1: in the in the NFL, I mean, I mean a
- 51:03Speaker 1: lot of people might say that, but look at the league. Look,
- 51:07Speaker 1: it's people who spout cliches like you got to run
- 51:10Speaker 1: the ball to set up the pass. You know, they've
- 51:12Speaker 1: they've changed the rules to favor the offense, and coaches
- 51:16Speaker 1: recognize that you know, oh, I agree entirely. So, you know,
- 51:21Speaker 1: I just again, every once in a while, you get
- 51:23Speaker 1: a call or in that just kind of decries, you know,
- 51:26Speaker 1: says bills outdated or something, and it's just I don't know.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I think that even at seventy years old, he still
- 51:34Speaker 1: has a really good draft for the game. You can
- 51:36Speaker 1: see it, you know where he's trying to coach, where
- 51:38Speaker 1: he takes stuff over and it makes the difference. And
- 51:40Speaker 1: a lot of people, I think have started to count
- 51:43Speaker 1: him out just because they look at it. I can't draft,
- 51:45Speaker 1: you can't do this, you can't do that. And I
- 51:47Speaker 1: think that if you give them another year or two
- 51:49Speaker 1: with this team, especially with the nucleus they got, they
- 51:52Speaker 1: could actually have a pretty good offense and you know,
- 51:55Speaker 1: a complimentary defense with you Bill, Bill, Yeah, yeah, I'm
- 52:01Speaker 1: going to set up an exercise that you guys can
- 52:03Speaker 1: do later in the show. I want you to give
- 52:05Speaker 1: me what you think the nucleus of the team is.
- 52:09Speaker 1: You don't need to do it off the top of
- 52:11Speaker 1: your head, give it some thought. Maybe after we eat,
- 52:13Speaker 1: will come back from a break. I'd like you to
- 52:14Speaker 1: come up with what you think the nucleus of the
- 52:16Speaker 1: team is. Well, Matt, it starts with Mac. I said,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you didn't have to do it now off to not
- 52:21Speaker 1: allowed to talk about it yet. You can, but I
- 52:24Speaker 1: don't think you'll be I don't think you'll be coming
- 52:25Speaker 1: up with a ton of names. And I think it's
- 52:27Speaker 1: a great you know, I think it sums it up
- 52:29Speaker 1: that they haven't you had enough success with the young guys.
- 52:32Speaker 1: They they've well, we'll hope, but this is right here
- 52:34Speaker 1: that you gotta find. Yeah, they we need these guys
- 52:37Speaker 1: to emerge. And now they're going to get a chance. Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 1: you know you're gonna get especially on defense, those guys
- 52:42Speaker 1: will finally get a chance. But I mean, it's it's
- 52:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think that question sums a lot of
- 52:46Speaker 1: it up. They don't have the young pieces you know
- 52:48Speaker 1: you can count on. You got to find them this year.
- 52:50Speaker 1: You wanted to find some last year. I think you
- 52:51Speaker 1: did with Mac. That's a huge piece of it. I mean,
- 52:53Speaker 1: arguably one of the biggest um bar Moore. But after that,
- 52:58Speaker 1: you know, and it's part of the reason why I
- 52:59Speaker 1: was kind of bummed about Jase Jackson. It's just, you know,
- 53:02Speaker 1: as much as I didn't think that he was while this,
- 53:04Speaker 1: you know, great shutdown corner that we have to have
- 53:06Speaker 1: to have when you can't retain players that you develop,
- 53:11Speaker 1: and it's just like I know that they have continuity,
- 53:14Speaker 1: but I think that there's something to be said for,
- 53:16Speaker 1: you know, drafting, developing, retaining, and that's something that guys
- 53:20Speaker 1: come in and they see that they and they see
- 53:22Speaker 1: how the process works. Not all right, we drafted that guy,
- 53:24Speaker 1: he was here for four years, or he was here
- 53:26Speaker 1: three years, then we traded him before his fourth year,
- 53:28Speaker 1: or he was here four years, we got cold, we
- 53:30Speaker 1: got rid of him. Or take it a step further.
- 53:32Speaker 1: We drafted this guy, we developed him, we gave him
- 53:35Speaker 1: a contract, then we traded him because we didn't like
- 53:38Speaker 1: the contract after a while. Like to Mike's point, I
- 53:42Speaker 1: think sometimes that I listen, I think that's a little
- 53:46Speaker 1: overrated because I think players are generally worried about themselves.
- 53:49Speaker 1: But I do think that sometimes the message that sends
- 53:52Speaker 1: can be frustrating. But I mean, just off the top
- 53:56Speaker 1: of your head, when you look at like the nucleus,
- 53:58Speaker 1: how many guys that oh to run home just as
- 54:01Speaker 1: they said, there's no offense. They're tagging this UCLA pitcher
- 54:04Speaker 1: and it should be five nothing too. But literally, the
- 54:10Speaker 1: nucleus is easy to say, Well, you know, I've been
- 54:13Speaker 1: on this and I know I'm a broken record. They're
- 54:15Speaker 1: not that young. The team itself is not that young.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I don't think that they've done a great job of
- 54:21Speaker 1: sort of churning over the roster to like to Mike's point,
- 54:25Speaker 1: and I think you make a really good one with
- 54:27Speaker 1: jac Jackson, Like these are the kinds. This is what
- 54:30Speaker 1: I'm hopeful for, is that Bill is going to get
- 54:32Speaker 1: back to what he did. And I'm hopeful for a
- 54:35Speaker 1: guy like Thornton if he pans out replaces Agalore in
- 54:39Speaker 1: Myers and you have a player that can be in
- 54:43Speaker 1: the mix there and Pierre Strong can be That's what
- 54:45Speaker 1: they used to do. They used to have a guy
- 54:47Speaker 1: on the roster already to fill a big role the
- 54:49Speaker 1: next year. And I'm sort of I'm hopeful that that's
- 54:54Speaker 1: what they're getting too. But I think if you look
- 54:58Speaker 1: at the start, the projected starter is off the top
- 55:00Speaker 1: your head. On defense, would you say up front like
- 55:04Speaker 1: Lawrence guy gotcha? Yeah, I would say that they are
- 55:09Speaker 1: bar more and more Yeah, Okay, Dietrich Wise, Jude On,
- 55:13Speaker 1: maybe Perkins Bentley ucha uh yeah, I don't know about
- 55:20Speaker 1: the line, so I don't either. Maybe McMillan, let's say
- 55:23Speaker 1: McMillan is Maybe it's McMillan and mac wilson. So I
- 55:26Speaker 1: think just just like to prove my point just in that,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and I don't want to do it for the whole
- 55:30Speaker 1: entire roster, but just for that like front seven nucleus
- 55:34Speaker 1: guys Barmore and if one of those like young guys
- 55:39Speaker 1: pans out like a Perkins or an Ucha. Mac Wilson's
- 55:42Speaker 1: not part of your nucleus, Jawan, Bentley's not part of
- 55:45Speaker 1: your nucleus. Davin gotcha, Lawrence, Guy, they're not part of
- 55:48Speaker 1: your nucleus. Dietrich Wise, that's not your nucleus. Well no, no,
- 55:51Speaker 1: but I think that between Barmore, gotcha and Guy, that's
- 55:55Speaker 1: your tackle rotation, right, you know what I'm talking about,
- 55:59Speaker 1: So what's part of your future? Right? No, that's not
- 56:01Speaker 1: that's Baroy and he's young. Yeah, yeah, but I think
- 56:06Speaker 1: everything for this team right now is young players emerging,
- 56:09Speaker 1: and that's you know, dovetails back into the conversation about
- 56:11Speaker 1: high Tower and old guys in and we could revisit that,
- 56:14Speaker 1: say in November when Ouch is suddenly like has nine sacks, right, Like, okay,
- 56:19Speaker 1: there's a nucleus guy. Yeah, well Perkins is setting the
- 56:21Speaker 1: edge on the other side of Matthew Judean And you say,
- 56:23Speaker 1: this is a nucleus guys, second year, third round pick,
- 56:26Speaker 1: this is the way it's supposed to be. Yeah, But
- 56:28Speaker 1: then you're like, all right, another year uche and then
- 56:31Speaker 1: then he'll then go to then go to the secondary.
- 56:33Speaker 1: You pick out your nucleus guys. It's it's you know,
- 56:35Speaker 1: it's at some point I think you gotta find and
- 56:37Speaker 1: then that's what you could really like Touchstone with the
- 56:40Speaker 1: early Dynasty teams were just Bruce Key, but Guinness, all
- 56:44Speaker 1: these guys who have been around for so long you
- 56:46Speaker 1: had such trust in them and are just feel of late.
- 56:48Speaker 1: It's kind of a lot of mercenaries and a lot
- 56:50Speaker 1: of kind of spare parts put together. They got to
- 56:53Speaker 1: find that nucleus though. I think it's it's just I mean,
- 56:55Speaker 1: that's that's that's everything right now. A Rashad's in Baltimore,
- 56:59Speaker 1: Harashod Sorry, sorry, um, I was I was listening to
- 57:06Speaker 1: They Are um and watching this softball game, but I
- 57:11Speaker 1: had a thing about I hear people, you know, calling
- 57:14Speaker 1: about the offense. I just feel like I don't I
- 57:17Speaker 1: just feel like I don't hear enough of people calling
- 57:18Speaker 1: about the defense. And yeah, of course, I mean you
- 57:22Speaker 1: I hear y'all talk about you know, the no punt.
- 57:24Speaker 1: You know, they did a lot of punt And that's
- 57:26Speaker 1: my that's the thing that I'll be griping on. You know.
- 57:29Speaker 1: I know the offense is gonna take you know, jumps,
- 57:32Speaker 1: they even might take little steps back, but I think
- 57:34Speaker 1: the defense is the main thing that people need to
- 57:37Speaker 1: be talking about because it's it's a big issue and
- 57:41Speaker 1: not just for this year like the foot I mean
- 57:45Speaker 1: maybe for the next years on because the people that
- 57:48Speaker 1: we got in right now, I mean, are they gonna
- 57:51Speaker 1: be above rope plays? Like? Are they gonna be starters? Right? Well,
- 57:58Speaker 1: like I said this this year, I'm more concerned with
- 58:01Speaker 1: the defense than I am. And I'm with you guys too.
- 58:04Speaker 1: I just don't want to see Mac and the offense
- 58:05Speaker 1: make some strides and wow, like has you know, really
- 58:08Speaker 1: show some strides gut getting better, but the defense can't
- 58:11Speaker 1: stop anybody and are given up like oh, you know,
- 58:13Speaker 1: like it's maddening that that's my nightmare for this season.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Of Well, like Parcel said, each side of the ball
- 58:18Speaker 1: gives the other side hope, you know, And when you're
- 58:21Speaker 1: in that situation where your defense doesn't give you hope, yeah,
- 58:26Speaker 1: it's tough. Yeah it's tough, you know. And I'm not
- 58:29Speaker 1: saying that's going to happen this year. What about one
- 58:31Speaker 1: of your offense doesn't give this same thing. That's what
- 58:32Speaker 1: I was thinking. I'm like some games the defense was
- 58:35Speaker 1: really doing their job, but the offense was literally on
- 58:37Speaker 1: the field for two seconds by the end of the game.
- 58:40Speaker 1: The defense, I think that was the bigger part of
- 58:42Speaker 1: the problem late last year, was that the defense would
- 58:46Speaker 1: would be put out there constantly in the first half
- 58:48Speaker 1: of those games, and you know, the turnovers were killing them,
- 58:52Speaker 1: the three and outs were killing them. I agree with
- 58:53Speaker 1: some arrow but I and that's true last year. But
- 58:56Speaker 1: I think this year the offense will be better. Yeah,
- 58:59Speaker 1: I do too. Going to improve over last year? I
- 59:02Speaker 1: think so too. How much, you know, how much is
- 59:04Speaker 1: enough to offset some of the questions on defense, that's
- 59:06Speaker 1: the question. But I think you're looking at Russia with
- 59:08Speaker 1: the same group, and if if I had the same
- 59:11Speaker 1: group but better, I think nucleus that's what I think
- 59:14Speaker 1: nucleus for the team is I mean, I gotta say Mac,
- 59:18Speaker 1: but if I had to go a secondary person, Kyle
- 59:25Speaker 1: Dugger is the only one that potentially is part of
- 59:27Speaker 1: your nucleus in the secondary, I mean Jalen Mills, Terrence Mitchell,
- 59:31Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler, Devin mccordy, Peppers one year contract but for
- 59:36Speaker 1: this year. No, But your nucleus is what you're expecting
- 59:39Speaker 1: to be like for five years. Okay, Like we have
- 59:42Speaker 1: these good young players that are going to develop together
- 59:44Speaker 1: and be good. Like they don't have a lot of those. Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 1: Barmore is definitely one. Mac Jones is one. I don't
- 59:52Speaker 1: think they have a ton of them. Yeah, well, I
- 59:54Speaker 1: mean Stevenson could be Stevenson running backs, you don't Yeah right.
- 59:59Speaker 1: We can always throw Kevin Harrison's to that because I
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: think Kevin Harris is going to be Okay, Okay, he's
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: my little uh, He's my dark horse that I have
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: a crush on. I think you liked Romandrea last year too,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: though he could I did, he could be, I did
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: could one two punch Yeah all right, thanks for Sean.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna take a break when we come back.

- 1:09:29Speaker 1: d he's quarterback at Houston and Miami put down the
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: cigarettes fault. It's really I mean, I mean, it's pretty
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: much such a good point there. I don't know why
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: I haven't. I was going on my ranting any of

- 1:10:09Speaker 1: jumped the ship scared away. Yah, yeah, but it's the
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: three of us, Deuce, Paul me somehow they put on

- 1:10:23Speaker 1: we're waiting for our Tom Coughlin shot though of rosy
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: cheeks and yeah, cold there. Let's get back to the phone.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Eight five five pats five hundred. Uh, Mike is in Alabama.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: What's up, Mike? Hey guys, I'm a long time listener
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and I've been just one first some call. I just
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: had a couple of questions. One was about the uniform
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: and an about the offense. My first thing was, I
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: was I heard, um there's gonna be an announcement about
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: the Uniformswiman the red Jersey's coming back worst cast sterio.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: But um, my suggestion was how hard it would it
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: be for them to switch to the white helmet permanently
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: instead of going back to the still sticking with the
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: silver and even just going back and forth between the
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: old logo and the new path. The new logo, I
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: think it would just look better with the current new
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: film that they have now, such what the stripes going
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: down the middle of the helmet. Yeah, I kind of
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: agree there. I'd love to see that white helmet with
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: the new logo be cool. Yeah. The other question about
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the offense was I'm actually positive about it this year.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I think it's going to be I'm pretty optimistic about it.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: I just my one worry is the offensive line. And
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: everyone's been talking about the tackles Trent Brown and obviously
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: as they win and they have injury history when we're
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: not sure if he's actually really good or not. And
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I was wondering if there's anybody out there in free
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: agency that would come in and maybe they would sign
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: to bring in to show that up. Maybe. I mean
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: a few names I looked at I saw was both
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: Friend eight Solder Derek Fisher, Riley Reeve, Dwan Brown. Few
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: names like that. They're kind of older guys, Jason Peters.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I don't know if they need to bring someone in
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: like that to shore up the offensive line because I
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: think that will probably the biggest weakness on the offense
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: right now that I can see, Yeah, I don't. I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: think they're rolling with what they got. I mean, I think,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: like you said, they're all older guys, but I think
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Justice like a third round pick. I mean, they've invested
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: some some draft capital in the in the offensive line.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: But I don't know. I'm not too worried about the
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: offensive line. I just I think they'll figure it out.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: They'll get some guys in there to do enough for
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Mac and I think Max's part of it. They've got
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: to play well. I mean it's Brady can overcome an
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: offensive line not playing well. Now. I'm not sure Matt
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Kin yet. We'll see early. I mean I always am
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: a little bit wary early in the season of the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: offensive line not really being in sync yet. But I
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: think it's on all of them. I did, I just
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: did they have the potential to be a dominant offensive line.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I'm not sure i'd make that case. I think I
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: can be solid. It all starts up front, So that's
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: what I hear. That's front, both sides of both sides
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: gotta be physical. Upside, you got you gotta run the ball,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: and you gotta stop the row iron sharpensign correct Fred correct,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: thanks Mike, appreciate the call. Um. I'm not overly concerned
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: about the offensive line either. I don't think it's um
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: necessarily a strength, but I don't just kill us. I
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: don't think it's gonna be the reason why the offense unravels.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: I have much more questions about the receivers in the
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: quarterback than I do the offensive line. Yeah, the running backs.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: I feel pretty good about Mike Dan in Virginia and
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Michigan writes, and you mentioned Mike Weisick, He says. There's
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: a brief video profile of him titled The Inner Strength
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: of Mike Woisick. It's incredible that it exists in the
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: first place, given that wois it comes across as completely
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: averse to the media. Weisick is such a curmudgeon with
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: the film crew that he makes Bill Belichick look like
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Paris Hill. They asked to see his Super Bowl rings
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: because he wants them with the Cowboys before joining New England,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: and after reacting to the requests like they asked to
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: pull out his own teeth, he tosses the ring on
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: the desk like he just dug out a couple of
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: pennies from the couch. He's the only Patriots coach that
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: gave off a stronger don't mess with me vibe than
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Dante Scarneccia. To answer your question, Fred, he was let
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: go by Mike McCarthy after the twenty nineteen season. It
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: doesn't seem like he's currently with another team. Also, can
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: someone please get deuced a lozenge or a nice cup
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: of tea? Struggling, it's a little bit better, And yes,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: all allergies, I think. So it just settled in my
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: throat and it's sure you don't have the COVID. Yeah,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I tested him. I don't have it. But it's just annoying.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: It's like, I mean, the paulling yesterday in the air
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: was like super duper thick. But but speaking of rings,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I saw Paul's rings for the first time. He let me,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: very fancy you brought your rings to work. I had
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: them with me um for an event, just in yeah,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: because sometimes you never know if that's going to be
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: something that can't go over well. Right, So I had
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: him with me one day last week and I showed
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: him to have to put one on. That's pretty cool. Nice.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I don't want people to think that I generally just
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: like that's how I just wear it. Yeah, maybe someday
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I'll get one of those. Maybe we were talking about
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: the Celtics and Tony writes in Jalen Brown was the
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: issue in the Miami series and in many games, a
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: turnover machine who dribbles into traffic and if he isn't stripped,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: dribbles it off his knee or just loses the ballad shots.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Brown thinks he's Tatum and he's not. He's a good
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: player and every team needs them. But he thinks he's
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: a great player. That's exactly what my uninformed impression of
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: him was was like he's a superstar. It seems like
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: he tries to take it. I don't think he's considered
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: a superstar right because I didn't. I didn't see that,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: but I saw he's a better player than that. Some
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Asian just made it out to me. But too many
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: turnovers in the playoffs, no question, that's accurate. Yeah. Alex
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: writes in from Pentucket, your show yesterday about food and
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: subs was great. This is the stuff we live for
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: in the offseason. I have a bone to pick with fred.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: I was in shocked to hear him say that a
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: wobber is the best fast food Burger ever made. A
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: man who eats steak medium rare to rare thinks that
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Burger King makes the best anything is baffling. I think
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: there needs to be a live taste test of Burger's
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: for Fred to reevaluate that declaration. For sandwich franchises, I
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: like Jersey Mike's, but I wish they would toast their bread.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: A sandwich on a toasted roll is just great. McDonald's
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: is by far the superior fast food, but when Deese
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: has made some serious ground on them, Burger King is
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: my version of Subway for Paul, only eating on survival
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: awful food. In terms of the Patriots, do you believe
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: that someone like Stevenson can leap frog Harris as a
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: third down back? Or is he mostly or is he
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: mostly a third down bat? I think he means other
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: than a third down back? Is he talking about strong now,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Stevenson Harris? I don't know. It's kind of think it's
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: one on one A. I know I watched him come
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: in and move the change on a lot of third downs.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: But do you believe he could do more? I think
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: that's a good question. I do, because I mean, when
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: I talked to uh God, I forget who it was.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: I went it to some Oklahoma guy at the combine
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: and just you know, asked him if he talked to
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Ramandre at all about the process one of the offensive line,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: and he said something like, oh, yeah, he's a third
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: he's a third down back, but he does so much more.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: And so I don't know what he was talking about.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: But I do think Stevenson catches them. I think he is.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I think he's more skilled in every area than Damien Harris. Yeah.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I think he's faster, I think he's stronger, and I
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: think he catches the ball better. Yeah. I think. Now
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: that's no knock on Damian Harris. I think they both
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: good backs. Yeah, I think that the skill set for
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Stevenson is better. Just my opinion. Harris was at the
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Red Sox game last night and the Harris ever not
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: go to a game. He had him in the they
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: had him in the booth, and he so wanted for
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: them to say, Damian, why didn't you take a shot at,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: you know, calling us the play by play? He really
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: wanted to do that, and he started doing it and
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: then there was an out and they're like, Okay, well
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: thanks for coming that's it, but you can tell he
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: wants to get into broadcasting someday. I would like to
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: see a race between Stevenson and Harris. I think that
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: I might know. I think you're right on everything, but
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I might go Harris just in a straight away, long
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: speed kind of thing. But I think it's close, and
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: I think Stevenson's got more masks, so it might pack
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: a little more punch, even though we might not have
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: the top end gear. I think I think Stevenson hits
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: the whole. I think he hit Johnny Muster. Uh, you
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: might be right in a forty you know, Harris might be.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I think overall, I like Stevenson. I think I like Stevenson.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Chris with a TIA, I don't mean that as a
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: shot at Harris. I like Harris too. Yeah. I think
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: that's why I said. I don't think they have any
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: problems in the backfield. They have good backs. Chris with
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: a I A N writes in I went down a
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: YouTube rabbit hole the other day, figured i'd look up.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Came Rac Groan highlights put the Kid in Canton. The
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: four minute highlight reel sold me, I know, I know
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: the worst thing you can do, kid, look fast, though,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: in particular at the one fourteen mark on a goal
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: line play wheels. Here's hoping this translates to an NFL
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: field this fall. And by the way, Love Love a
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: summer episode dedicated to Star Wars. I'm caught up on
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: the new releases looking forward to it. Shut up, Paul,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with that. He'll just take
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: the day off that day. Yeah, No, I'll be here.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: I just won't really contribute. I'll probably make fun of
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: you guys. But that's that's good. That's a good contribution, though.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: But who talks about more nonsense than me? I'm I'm
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: the king of the non sequitors. Third episode, All we
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: won ellent excellent? Um, what was the first part of
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: that question? I would love to be surprised by Camera mcgron,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: but if he right now, my expectation at best is
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: that he is a special teams player. I can't be
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: surprised by him. I have no idea what he is.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: What what are the odds of me this year at
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: some point calling him Pat mcgron one thousand percent? Yeah,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: I think yeah. And it's also not a bet that
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Mike and I have any ability to win when you
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: can just say it. There's got to be cut off,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: and then he's got to forget about it, right, and
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: then we'll remind him. Andre from New Jersey got a
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: little beef with Fred and Paul and maybe Deuce. How
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: on earth you guys have no pencil in wins this
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: season with the Jets in the division. Regardless of what
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: they did in the draft and free agency, they are
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: still the Jets. I believe I penciled in the home
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: game against the Jets with the Bears and Lions in
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: the schedule. Are you kidding me? Guys? And I penciled
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: in the Lions game? You know better? There is four
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: wins right there. There is no way the Patriots losing
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: to those teams. Let's have some fun, Let's have some fun.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Who is this? Uh? This is Andre from New Jersey. Andre.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I bet you they will not go four oh in
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: those those four games? Yeah? What can we bet? How
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: can we try to make it parlay? How can we
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: make it fun? What can we do something? Uh? Andre
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: has to buy us lunch. If Paul's right and nothing happens,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I mean, is there any way we could do play?
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: That's probably not a good bet though for us to me,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: because we're obviously not rooting for them to lose to
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: the Jet. He says also fellas, what do you think
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: this team is going to regress from last season? Is
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: it the loss of Josh j Junior Jackson or the
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: unproven linebackers. I got them winning at least eleven to
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: twelve games. Okay, I have another bet. Now that's optimistic.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: I mean that's my high end, but I wouldn't feel
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: confident of that's to me, that's really really optimistic. Twelve wins.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: The rest of the conference all got it was like
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: the Celtics playoff run. Every other team got hurt. Uh.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Also a couple of questions. Have you guys seen the
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: new season of Stranger Things yet? Absolutely phenomenal, best one yet.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I think I have to watch that. Yeah. How many
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: seasons to that? Is there? Yeah? This is the fourth.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: I think I got through the third episode last night.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I think it's good. I think the the middle two
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: kind of felt vaguely similar to the first one. This
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: this one feels very, very different, and I like that.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I mean it's just you know, different, haven't started similar,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: but but different. Everybody's kind of spread out, it's hill
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: making fun of the ages at this point though, Oh yeah,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: you don't know who's what, like like like my sister Nancy,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: she's working a job, but like she's gonna go to college.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: It's all over the map, all over the map. Um,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I don't even know. Andrea says, I'm planning on getting
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: the NFL Red Zone or NFL Game Pass for the
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: first time. Which one is better and worth the money?
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: You want to watch all of two very different things.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I love the red zone, but if you're interested in
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: watching entire games, yeah, after the fact, then the game
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: passes the thing. But I like the red zone. I
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: used to sometimes I'm game passed. They have the full
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: the full grid of all the games at once. That
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: was kind of fun to put on sometimes. But for
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: me personally, if I have a Patriots games and red zone,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: I'm good. I agree, as I often do. Rozsie from
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: LA has a question. I'm not sure I know the answer,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: to be honest, He says, what are all the things
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Patriots coordinators like McDaniel's, Bill O'Brien, et cetera, were in
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: charge of. I presume these included teaching and installing the offense,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: game planning, game tactics, play calling, getting the correct personnel
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: on the field, et cetera. How do you think Bill
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: will divide these duties up between himself, Patricia and Judge,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: like like we're like, for example, I think at the
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: end of McDaniel's tenure, he was in charge of the offense. Yeah.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I think Belichick was in charge of the game plan. Yeah,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: and I think that will remain the case. Yeah. Yeah, Well,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I mean maybe Josh had some input, Oh absolutely, but absolutely,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: But I think Bill puts together the game plan on
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: offense and defense. I just think it boils down to
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: who's calling the place because otherwise it's a coordinator, Like
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: you coordinate everybody, You bring everything in. You're the one
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: who's making sure all the information from the position coaches
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: is coming in. You've got the game plan, you put it.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: So that's just kind of organizational stuff. Yeah, and that's
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: where the position coaches come in. Like remember the famous
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: thing with Malcolm Butler in fourteen, right it was Brian Flores. Yeah, Malcolm, Malcolm,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: Malcolm go. Because that's part of it that like, this
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: is what the defensive coaches do. Yeah, Okay, we're in
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: this call. That means we need this personnel and everybody's
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: got to know that. Yeah, right, That's that's why, Like,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: as much as the offensive coordinator stuff is is you know,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: definitely valid to discuss. I think it just comes down
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: to who calls the place, who's in the heat of
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: the moment having to make those snap decisions. Of course,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: with Bill Belichick chiming in on, you know, generally what
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: he likes, but that that's what matters. I don't think
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: the day to day, you know, organizational Friday meeting, who's
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: you know, gathering all the information. I don't think that
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: they'll figure that stuff out. But I think the I
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: think the writer, I think the point of the email
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: is how much was consolidated in one person in the
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: past and how much now has to be divvied up
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: among more people. Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I honestly
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: don't know the answer. But I mean, Josh, you know,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: was the quarterbacks coach and the offensive coordinator, so I mean,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: you know it's he was doing both. Um. Yeah, I
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: don't know. I think they've got enough to figure it out.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: I think he's just gonna boil down to what I
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: think to Fred's point, though, I don't think there's gonna
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: be just one guy doing what Josh did now, like
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: I think, on paper, it looks like that will be
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Joe Judge. He's gonna be working with quarterbacks and was
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: definitely involved with Mac Jones and the OTAs. But I
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: think part of that will be on Patricia, and part
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: of that will be on Nick Kayley, and I think
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: part of that will be on Bill. I think there'll
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: be more you know of your word collaborative than than
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: was the case with McDaniels. But Bill, I think will
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: be heavily involved as he always has been with game plans,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: and other guys will be there to weigh in. Neil
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: and new Brunswick picking up on the High Tower conversation
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: from yesterday. I'd be neutral on signing or not signing him,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: but I do selfishly hope he doesn't play for another team.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: In his prime, he was an amazing player, never flashy,
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: but just consistent. He plays in Super Bowl forty nine
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: stopping Lynch at the goal line and the strip sack
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: of Matt Ryan a Super Bowl fifty one. Both were
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: huge plays that were a big help to bringing two
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: rings to the Patriots. I'm curious where you'd think he
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: ranks at Patriots history, for example, compared to this year's
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Fame nominees, I don't think he takes
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: a backseat to any of those guys. High Tower. I mean,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: I think of him similar to Edelman in that there
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of production, and a lot of the
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: biggest production came in the playoffs, so you certainly have
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: to consider it. But okay, Vrabel versus High Tower to thee,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: I don't really think it's all that close now, Vrabel,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: I mean High Tower versus Wilfork. Wilfork, Okay, Like I
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: think High Tower was a really good player who wasn't
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: always available, and as Mike said, he was great in
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: big spots, which is huge, But I don't think that
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: as on a game to game basis, he was at
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: the level of those other guys. And like when you
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: said Vrabel, I think about Vrabel and oh five, like
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: switching positions and filling holes in you know, you saw
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: in twenty fifteen when they didn't have Dante High Tower.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: I mean, the team did fall off a cliff. But
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: you know, I think availability, the length of your career,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: those are things to consider when you're stacking them up
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: to those guys like will High Tower get into the
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Fame? Yes, oh yeah, yes, yeah, for sure, Yeah,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: yeah he does. He belongs in the team Hall of Fame. Again,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to start rattling off names of guys
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: that are already in, right, but who do you who
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: do you take from the from the second a second
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: three the site, like you know High Tower, Edelman? No,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: he's not in order, Well, he's more the first. Well,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: he's kind of in the middle. I don't know who
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: else from from the second three Super Bowls? I mean Gilmore,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Gronk for sure, I mean Edelman, Gronk, High Tower, Brady
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: of course. After that, though, I think it sports to
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: get a little Yeah, he's gonna go in. This is
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: the problem, right, all right, this is the problem. Yeah,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: we've got he's got it. Not that he wasn't like
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: and people say, oh you don't like record it. No,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: he was a great Patriot. Now I would put a
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: high Tower before mccordy, Yeah I would. I would too, Yes,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: I would too. But it's I mean, it's an interesting
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: comparison because I feel like mccordy consistent longevity over the
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: course of regular season games. Rock Rocks solid, but when
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: you look at high towers peaks, they're a little bit
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: more memorable later, and he's going in. He's definitely going in.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: I can guarantee it's in arguable he's going in. There's
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: no sense even talking about like it's twenty forty five
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: and who's Brandon King waves to the fans that the plot.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: I think all of those guys are, no doubt Hall
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: of famers, mccordy, High Tower, Welker, Edelman, Slater. Where you're
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: going to start to get conversations is you know, when
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: you go to the next tier down a little bit,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: you know, like a Patrick Chung or uh, Dietrich Wise, Uh,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: you know, guys like that, like there's there's more of
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: a conversation to be had there. James White, that's a
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: good one. You know, talk about big plays in big games, right,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: But you know, I would make an argument that James
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: White was probably better than Kevin Falk. But I don't know,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: like I don't know that Kevin Falk should be in there, right, Interesting, Yeah, tough, Yeah,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: we don't have an easy job, Mike. I don't know
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: if you can talk, you know, every responsibility you couldn't.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: So here's but you know, here's another way to look
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: at it, and it's tough, but takeaway playoffs and just
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: look at their regular season careers. Nobody would Yeah, would
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Kevin Falk be in? Would any of these guys? A
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: lot of them? Right, we're so you know, well, I
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: think Kevin Falk would have a stronger case as just
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: regular season than some of the other guys. But like
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Julian Edelman had like some really good seasons in the
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: regular season. Now he's bolstered greatly by the volume of
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: catches in the postseason. Right, But I mean Edelman was good.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: But team Team Hall of Fame, Team Hall of Fame,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: it's not even a question. I mean, what do what
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: do we do about? Are my apps? Brian in New Hampshire.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: I know it's OTAs but an offseason question. Here we
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: talk a lot about the best Super Bowl teams, but
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: I'd be curious to hear you will all rank the
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: best Patriots team that made the Super Bowl in lost.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I'm sure O seven is number one one, but what
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: about the others. I was not around or old enough
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: to see the eighty five or ninety six teams firsthand,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: so I'm curious about those two In particular, I would
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: put ninety six up there behind oh seven. Maybe you
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: could say the what's the year that they lost the Eagles? Seventeen?
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: I think seventeen ninety six really really good teams that
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: didn't win. I mean I'd go ninety six probably over
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: seventy two. But I'm bias. You don't like eleven eleven
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: was terrible. I don't think seven team was was much better.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Probably offensively they were better, but defensively they were both
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: just dreadful seasons. Defensively, Um, how do you stack up
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: eighty five? Eighty five would be the worst? Yeah, I
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: mean they did get it was a magical playoff run,
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: but they just didn't have the same ability that the
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: other teams. Yeah, I mean, I'm by no means to
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: my an expert. I just feel like the best players
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: in the eighty five team were sort of passed their prime.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: You know, the hand is the Nelson's, the Stanley Morgan's,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: the Grogan's. Yeah, like what about they were they were
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: kind of you know what I mean that they just
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: came to quarterback? Was Tony East right? That game over?
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: What about um Patriots teams that lost in the AFC
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: Championship so like the ranking those teams, like oh six,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: oh six was a good team. They you know, thirteen
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: fifteen with the one that wants to uh was it twelve?
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: They lost a ball to Atimo They got smoked. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: I didn't think the two teams that lost in Denver
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: were all that good. I think fifteen was better than thirteen.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: Thirteen was fifteen was definitely better than thirteen. The thirteen
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: game wasn't really competitive. Yeah, in Denver, they they had
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: nothing there by the end of the season. Um that
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the O six team, I mean, that's they kind of
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: squeezed everything they could out of that team. I think
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: they had won that game, they would have Super Bowl.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: The thirteen game in Denver was one of those Patriot
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: games where they got absolutely man had for sixteen minutes.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Still Pots lost by ten. Yeah, but it was never
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: like you never really thought they had a chance to
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: win that game. But the Patriots just don't get blown out.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: That's I used to say that writing on the blog.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I'm like, even when they get absolutely dominated, they don't
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: get blown out. Yeah, and they and I think that
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: was largely true for a long time until now. That's
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: what the next point was going to be Anthony, Connecticut.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: First of all, I am not here for all this
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: subway slander. I think I think you guys are wrong.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: It may not be the best sandwich out there, but
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: it gets the job done. It gets the job done.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: As for the Patriots, how realistic is it that James
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: White will be an actual contributor to this season? Love
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: the player and what he did, but can't ignore the
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: current situation. Plenty of younger depth on the team and
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: he's coming off an injury. Is there a chance he
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: calls it a career this summer? Lastly, there is a
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: chance of that. But I just would fight back just
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: slightly on what is the younger talent that we know of?
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Like are we just saying that this is what Peter
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Strong is like sight unseen, Like he's younger talent on
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: the roster? Right? Yeah? Like, don't these guys have to
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: do something before you know they established themselves? As I
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: think that there's larger point. I don't want to get
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: bogged down in semantics like I can do sometimes. James White,
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: I think, is a candidate to say, you know what,
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: I'm not bouncing back the way I thought It's not working.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I think there's a I don't know what percentage you
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: want to put on that fifty fifty. Yeah, yeah, maybe
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: maybe pup and he they ease him back in and
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: then mid season he kind of comes back and maybe
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: gives them a boost that. I do wonder if he
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: might with him. I feel like if he needs, if
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: he needs that time Mike. I wonder if he just says,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: you know what, it's just not worth it, forget about it. Yeah,
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: but I'm not willing to sit here and say, you know,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: with all the talent Ty Montgomery and now, he still
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: don't hair strong like, I don't think they have anybody
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: anywhere near the caliber of James White. If he's right. Yeah,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Now I think the email has got it. I think
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: there's a chance in the summer we might be hearing
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: from James White. Yeah, I agree, But I also I
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: think too some of them Mack's best passes last year
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: where to James White. Now, the two in particular, remember
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: early you know up the sidelines, nice nice touch they had,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: some they started to have. He would have helped a
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: little bit down the stretch. So we'll see. But yeah,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not cementing him into anything. Just yet. Lastly,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: has there been any talk about getting some PU apparel
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: or coffee mugs? That's easy. Coffee mugs. We should get
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: coffee mugs so we can have them in front of us.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I could drink my diapepsia. We can get Doc Mcloude
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: to do a little illustration that we could put on
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: a T shirt. So we should get some T shirts done.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Huh pu uh. Jack says, what about the tight ends?
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: He says, isn't it time for Devin Asiassi to be
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: a regular contributor. It's a good question. I mean, he's
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: they took him for a reason better at this point,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: it seems like they just took him because they needed
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: a tight end and better chance he's a regular contributor
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: or not on the roster, not on the roster, Fred,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: what's that better chance for this season? Devin a regular
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: contributor on offense, were not on the roster, not on
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: the roster? Yeah, I agree, I mean, I think I
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: agree with you both third tight end, third tight end.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: And it's hard to see him. I mean, I remember
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: the last spring he had I thought a couple I
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: thought there was some signs. Yes, last last summer, remember
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: you got off to the slow start because he was
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: COVID at the start of training camp. Remember he missed
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: the first like week or so. But then once he
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: started practicing, I was like, he was showing up a
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, he made he was looking I thought
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: he looked quicker. Um, and then all of a sudden
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: regular season started and he was never really to be
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: heard from. He's gonna need a hunter Henry or Jonas
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Smith injury, I think, to get a shot, and I
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: think that's what it would take for him to be
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: a contributor. Yeah, uh, let's see. Jordan Appalachian, New York,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: thanks for picking my question to read. Fred. A while back,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: you were all discussing the popularity of lacrosse in Upper
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: State New York, and the real answer is why it's
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: so popular is because the Iroquois invented the sport and
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: obviously played it in upstate New York. I'm not sure
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: as to why it has remained popular well Canada really,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: but yeah, people loved it. They loved it back in
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: the seventeen hundreds when they started playing up state years
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: close to Canada, so it makes sense it's just stuck around.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Um then why not made anyway, I've got two questions. Uh,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: if I was to make a day trip to Foxborough
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: for training camp with a pregnant wife in a four
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: year old, would it be fun for them? No? And
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: it wouldn't be fun for you, your pregnant wife love
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: the Patriots. I don't have a lot of experience being pregnant,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: but like sitting out in the sun, you know, I
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: mean I think I'm four year old. If they're into it,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: would have a great time. Yeah, I would encourage anybody
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: generally to go to train outstanding. Four might be a
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: little bit too young. I had kids, you know, brought
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: them a little bit older than that. They had great time,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: and they've got all kinds of activities. Kids don't generally
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: want to sit for two hours and watch yeah, football practice, Right,
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: it's an unbelievable take is you know you would make
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: fun of me for being jaded all the time? Fred,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: You've never heard me make fun of that. Like you
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: are literally feed away from the best players in the
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: world and you get a chance to watch it for free,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: Like it's a great summertime. Take. Yes, it is. But
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: like Paul said, four years old, four years old, he
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: is young. He'll he'll be all excited about the stuff
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: you did before practice. But you get like an eight
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: year old and then you can get up by the
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: ropes and maybe get some autographs afterwards, some interaction that
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: you know, generally the players congre you know, they gravitate
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: toward the kids. Yeah, that's where I think you're talking
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: like priceless kind of experience. Yeah, pregnant wife though, pregnant
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: wife four year old. Yeah, I don't think that's where
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: you want to be. Maybe a few months pregnant, but
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: like if you're getting later on, oh imagine trying to
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: drag my pregnant wife there, she would not be out.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: I remember I got tickets to Game one the two
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: thousand and four World Series, you know, against the Cardinals,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: when when the Red Sox finally won and I and
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: I got a bunch of tickets I got. I ended
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: up getting five tickets, and the idea was for my
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: wife to come. And she was pregnant at the time.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: She's like, no chance am I going into that crowd, right,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: And she wasn't you know, it wasn't imminent. It was October. Yeah,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: she was like probably five months pregnant, five and a
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: half months pregnant. Maybe at the time she's like, no chance, Yeah,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: am I doing that? And she didn't. Yeh uh. Second
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: question is if the Patriots had three surprise transactions during
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: training camp, what would they be As far as one,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: who would be the surprise signing? Surprise signing? I don't
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: know if that's a surprise, but I don't have a
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: sign We talked about line if Damien Harris, yeah, is
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: there another surprise? Well, then the surprise trade. Those those
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: guys I think would be surprised. The last year would
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: be we always say this, who would be the surprise cut? Yeah,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: I would say the same all those like I don't
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: But are they surprised if you already know about I
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: know that's the problem, right, Well, that's why, like it's
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: easy to say Nikkio, Harry or Trey Flowers. I don't
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: really think that anything would be surprising with those guys.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: There's not a lot. There's not a lot of guys embedded.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Like I was gonna say, Malcolm Butler, you know, tried
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: to come back, maybe just doesn't have it anymore. That's
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: a good one, dude, somebody who's a good I was
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: just gonna pencil him back in and yeah, he just did.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: He didn't have it anymore like somebody like that. Yeah,
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: I'll put Ty Montgomery on the surprise cut. That's a
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: good one too. Mac Jones, I'd be surprised. I know.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: That would take me a back. Yeah, I would be surprised.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: I mean that would take me aback. Uh. Eldred's in
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Good? Yeah, I've been listening.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: I just got a couple of questions. I'm concerned on
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: both side of the ball too, both sides, you know.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: But my question is to Fred yes and Paul, because
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: I hear y'all the most. You're not worried about the offense.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, I didn't say I wasn't worried about
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: the offense. I said, I'm not worried about the offensive line.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: You know, we're about offense the first met Again, I'm
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: not opfully worried with the offensive line. I think they
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: have I think they have questions that receiver in quarterback.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: I'm less worried about the offense. I mean there's still
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: I don't know how Matt Jones is going to be
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: this year, you know. And that's that's the that's the
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: lynch pin. But I'm less worried about the offense than
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: I am the defense too. I think you can make
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: that argument. I think I'll worry about the offense at
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: least on the defense. You got them coordinated offense, do
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: you good? And you got who's the defensive coordinator on
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: this team? I don't. I don't know if you have
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: that answer on defense either. Well, if that at least
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: they've been working lonely with that side, you know, you know, yeah,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: they a little bit more, that's true. Yeah, Yeah, that's
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: why I'm worrying. Matt and and who gonna you know,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: had the receivers come out on the back or you know,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: if you're getting the buying who who know what played
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: to call? What? Dude? You know that's what's worried me.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: That's me. Yeah, I worry about both. But I think
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: you can make an argument for Fred and Mike that
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: I'm a little little little less worried about the offense
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: than the defense. I think this is a great year
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: to show what Gerd Mayo, Steve Belichick really have. I mean,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: these are you know, new players, These aren't the carryover
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: guys that they know. Yeah, credit, and I think they're
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: so short on talent, right right, Well, there's only so
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: much you can do. I mean, I connected into you know,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: the drafts the last couple of years too. Can they
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: develop these young players? Can they bring in? I mean,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: they've looked pretty good early in the season when you
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: had High Tower and Van Noyan Collins and the guys
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: who have been here, you know for a long time.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: But can you even get back to that level with
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: some of these new faces, guys like Ray Kua mcm
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: and guys who are you know, coming into this Patriot
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: system and all they know is Stee Belichick to Raw Mayo,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: like you know, I do think. I mean, how are
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: you gonna know? The proof will be in the pudding
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: if these guys are able to come in and wow,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: josh Ucha's really blossom here, I get it. With Ronnie Perkins,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: those things happen, then credit to those guys. But but
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: that's what's got to happen, all right, Thanks, Aldred, appreciate
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: the call. So sticking with the softball game, Fred Boss
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: move just now like they had former Texas All American pitches,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: She's I'm one of the legends. Got kat Osterman? Do
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: you remember that name from you watch some of this
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: softball stuff. I know, I don't remember. So Cat Osterman
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: was like April Finch. She probably Jenny she probably still
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: plays on the national Team's Cat Osterman. But she's you know,
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: a huge Texas um pitcher um, one of the greatest ever.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: So she's there and they just did a you know,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: ESPN just did an interview with her. And as she's
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: doing the interview, she's signing autograss Little Girls coming out there.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: That's a boss move. Yeah, Like, I'm doesn't even any
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: of the later I got, I got you, Holly, but
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: oh here yeah yeah um John and Boston says. The
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: new season of The Boys premiers tomorrow. I will watch that.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: Are we going to get a recap of that show
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: as well as obi Wan? Yeah, I'll watch that. Which
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: the Boys Amazon, It's good show. What is superheroes? It's
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: but no, but it's dark. They're there. They're superheroes that
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: are jerks. Yeah, okay, I guess that's a good way
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: to put it. You were like you, you were like
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: you love the Boys. Yeah, you got me into it.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I watched the two seasons. I mean, Homelander, that guy's
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: a psycho. It's good superheroes owned by a company, and
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: everything's just fake. All their actual heroing is you know
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: TV production. It's good. It's good, good drama, little nice
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: twist and turns and stuff. I'm invested. I just think
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: the writing is good, it's clever. Yeah, what's that fresh platform? Amazon? Amazon?
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: Amazon Prime? Yeah, yeah, that's worth it. I have a
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: couple of seasons. I'm like you, friend, I have it all.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: You'll need it this year, I added courts. Yeah, I'm
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: gonna be curious to see, um if I watch any
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: of the games on Amazon. Which, speaking of which, where's
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: the game that three play on the Thursday night that
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: will be an Amazon? Because not the Thanksgiving not the
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Thanksgiving one next week? Is that in Buffalo or here?
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I think it's here. It's here, Yeah it is, because yeah,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: it's here, So no issue there. I was wondering, how
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: do how do we get that here in the in
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: the studio right right? Yeah? Yeah? If that's a road game,
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: how we're gonna have to make arrangements to get that stream? No,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: but I thought that, um, it has to be on
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: broadcast TV on the in the local market. Just slowly, Yeah,
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: I think so, I think so, Okay, Yeah, just like
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: an ESPN. It's on channel five here right when it's on.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: But that's a little different. It might be because you're
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: not they're not paying exclusive rights to your Amazon is
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: paying exclusive right to be streaming. You might be right.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: Bruins games this year weren't right. Yeah, you might be right, Paul.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: If if, even if you're in New England, you might
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: be out of luck if you don't have Amazon Prime.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: So we didn't see it. We can't really talk about it.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: That would that'll be interesting if that's the case, let's see,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: Anthony writes in he says Paul is right. The only
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: time subway can feasibly be consumed is if you were
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: forced to go to an event with the promise of
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: food being offered, and the only food offered is subway,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: and no other circumstance should that slot be consumed. Hope
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: you aren't in the Eat Fresh studio. This coming from
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: a person to wait a two cheeseburger meal from McDonald's
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: for lunch tomorrow, was correct. That Firehouse is the best
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: hot sub chain is tomorrow from the Midwest. Well, she
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: did work at Notre Dame. She's been around. Yeah, from Virginia.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: I have only seen Blimpie in Michigan, and she's right
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: there as well, very solid, cold subs, quick game. You
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: have to make the decision today on these promising youngsters.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Cut one, trade one, extend more. Oh I like it,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: so cut one, trade one, extend one. Stevenson, Mac and
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Barmoll Uh cut one, cut trade one on one, extend
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: cut steven That's why it's hard. Yeah, but that's like
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: I would extend Mac. I would trade Barmore because I
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: think I could get a lot for him. Yeah, I would.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: I'd have to cut Stevenson, you know, if if I
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: have to do it that way, I would extend Barmore
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: and trade Mac. But you think you get more from
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Mactan Barmore. No, I think Barmore was a better player.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I want to keep the better player. Oh, I don't know. Yeah, man,
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: it's I'm just going by. Quarterbacks are tougher to get,
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: though it is hard to get a great quote. I
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: agree with you. A great quarterback is tougher to get.
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: I think I think the struggle with it is that
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: I think you easily could get another quarterback. Can you
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: get a great one that's different? Is he great? No?
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: Not in my opinion. Mike writes in he says a
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: video was released today. It's actually he wrote this in yesterday.
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: So a video was released yesterday showing the QB girl,
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: Tom House working with Mac. From the small clip, you
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: can already tell the impact he made to Mac. What
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: advantages do young quarterbacks get from working with the likes
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: of Tom House? What could you tell? I did watch that?
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: What could you tell that he got from it? What
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: could I tell? The email? He just said from the
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: quick the quick snippet, you could already tell the improved like, well, what, well,
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: it's just what Max said. Did you watch it? No?
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: So I watched it, and you know, it was more
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: where the shoulders are lined up, and so he had
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: Mac throw a few balls and then he said, okay,
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: try this, and he had him just think about, you know,
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: the the alignment of his shoulders and you know, where
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: the direction of his whole body was going. He goes,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: so that feels better, right, and Mac goes yeah, and
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: he goes, no, you know, maybe he needs to get
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: his shoulders and lined at. I know, well that's the thing.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Like I did the profile of Mac last year, like
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: he's been working with a QB coach since he was
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: in high school. So you know, no disrespect to Tom House.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: But now it's all little tweaks here and there. But
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: is anybody gonna like be that guru that transforms you?
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: And I mean it's just it's doesn't need a transformation now,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: he just needs he just needs a little more venocity,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: a little bit more velocity, you know, like little things
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: like that, just to make him a little bit better. Yeah,
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: And I and I think too with Mac, Like you know,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: I talk a lot about I think people really discount
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: players improving. Like I think generally people like, that's what
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: you were, that's what you're gonna be. I think for
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: a player like Mac, experience seeing it so much of
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: it is mental for the quarterback position. But I think Mac,
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: especially the more experience he got last year and this
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: offseason and all those things with just seeing different looks
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: all that, just the experience I think is really what's
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: going to help him the most. All Right, We're gonna
