- 0:00In our massive country, there are card collectors throughout
- 0:03the land participating in the hobby.
- 0:06There's Mike of Junk Wax Hero and Greg of Midlife cards.
- 0:10And while distance may separate them, here is where they come
- 0:14together to talk cards. Hey buddy, how's it going?
- 0:20And well, happy Thursday to you. But this is probably people will
- 0:25hear us on Saturday or Sunday or Thursday or I don't know but.
- 0:30How are you doing? Great.
- 0:33Back to work this week after had a week off and yeah, I mean, you
- 0:38had two weeks off. I did.
- 0:40How was it getting back to work? Oh, it was brutal.
- 0:44It was absolutely brutal. We have all new students when we
- 0:50come back and, and the first two weeks with new students is
- 0:57completely exhausting if you run your classroom the way I do.
- 1:02And so I literally just feel like every day for two weeks, I
- 1:07feel like I got hit by a truck. So it's all good though, because
- 1:11I'm going to cap it off next weekend, not this weekend.
- 1:16So I don't know when people hear this, but going to Disneyland.
- 1:21So that'll be relaxing. That's awesome.
- 1:24Not really relaxing, but it'll be fun, yeah.
- 1:27That's great. Yeah, So let's see any big news.
- 1:33I just heard that for collectors secured a great location for
- 1:40trade night of the Strongsville show and Chris from Missouri has
- 1:45secured like the if we want I'm I'm still calling it
- 1:49Strongsville, but and Chris from Missouri security great location
- 1:54for the hangout on Friday night of the show formerly known as
- 2:01Strongsville. That's great.
- 2:04I'm looking forward to it. I fully intend to be there.
- 2:07It's going to be fun. So what we decided for this week
- 2:11was you were going to surprise me with a couple of questions
- 2:15that I'm not prepared for, and I was going to do the same for
- 2:19you. And then just see where things
- 2:22take us. I, I, it's fun for me to pick
- 2:26other people's brains on what their opinion is on different
- 2:30things. And so that's where we're going
- 2:32to go. So do you want to be the asker
- 2:36first or the answerer? First, yeah, dueling questions.
- 2:41Not to be confused with dueling banjos.
- 2:43No, no dueling banjos if you've ever seen that movie.
- 2:48Little sketch, yes. It was a great movie, though.
- 2:54Yeah. So I would actually like to
- 2:56start with something that you surprised me with this week.
- 2:59In in a text message you I said. I mentioned having a peanut
- 3:04butter and fluff sandwich. Oh yes.
- 3:07And you had not only never had one, but you've never heard of
- 3:09fluff. Is that right now?
- 3:11That's correct. I've never.
- 3:13I've never heard of Fluff. Adam of Splendid Sports quickly
- 3:19sent a picture of Fluff and and I I must say that right off the
- 3:25bat it it looks just right up my alley.
- 3:29Like I don't, I don't know what it is, but I know I like it even
- 3:34though I've never had it. So do you want to explain?
- 3:37Is it just marshmallow? It's it's spreadable
- 3:41marshmallow. Yeah, that is just.
- 3:44And so you put on some peanut butter and then you put on some
- 3:46marshmallow and you have a peanut butter and fluff
- 3:48sandwich. And then if you really want to
- 3:49get fat, which we do, of course, you put in a little chocolate,
- 3:56like a Hershey's syrup in the middle, man.
- 4:00What about banana? Any banana in there?
- 4:03I wouldn't, no. Well, we could out in
- 4:08California. We have a like a high end
- 4:11chocolate company called Sees Candy.
- 4:14I think it's a California thing. Have you heard of Sees?
- 4:17SEA No. No, no, SEE.
- 4:21It's like misses sees. I feel like I've seen it, but
- 4:24no. It's sort of like a Godiva or a,
- 4:29you know, a Geargelly or that sort of thing.
- 4:32Anyway, they have all these different chocolates with all
- 4:36these different concoctions of things and my go to is called a
- 4:40Scotch mellow, which is caramel, a layer of caramel with a bigger
- 4:48layer of marshmallow covered in milk chocolate.
- 4:52And it's like, it's my, I mean, my for Christmas, my brother got
- 4:57me a pound of it of. Just.
- 4:59That one and so I am a marshmallow guy.
- 5:04Yeah, Well, Fluff, which is short for Fluffer Nutter,
- 5:07Fluffer Nutter is, I believe it was invented in Maine and it's
- 5:11mostly a northeastern thing. So I wasn't surprised at all
- 5:13that that Adam has heard of it and and knows it and probably
- 5:16has it. We, I don't have it very often.
- 5:19It's pretty rare, but we always have some in our in our cabinet.
- 5:25If we make fudge, we're making fudge with fluff.
- 5:30It's amazing, you know, the occasional sandwich and it
- 5:34doesn't really go bad. Wow.
- 5:37I mean, it's like a it, it sounds perfect, quite frankly.
- 5:42So I know what I'm getting you for, Strongsville.
- 5:46Fantastic. OK, so back to the question.
- 5:51Do you wanna ask? Do you wanna?
- 5:53What do you wanna do here? I'll, I'll, I'll start.
- 5:55Yeah, OK. Go for it, bring it.
- 5:59So you I have some autographs I know you like to TTM and you're
- 6:03buying Goonies autographs. How important is it to you that
- 6:08your autographs are authenticated by a reliable,
- 6:12reputable third party authenticator?
- 6:14Oh boy, that's a really good question.
- 6:17So how do I answer this when I buy?
- 6:25I have bought autographs that I believe to be real that I sent
- 6:32to 3rd party authenticators which came back not real and I
- 6:38believe that the authenticator was wrong.
- 6:41To be honest with you, I have also bought a lot of
- 6:47authenticated ones. I feel like I've had enough
- 6:50instances where a card came back as not authentic that I just
- 6:56assumed buy it authenticated for the most part now.
- 7:00But at the same time, like so our our friend Tony, Southern
- 7:05collector 14, He, he's got a good buddy Tim, who's just an
- 7:09awesome guy. I, I don't know if you met Tim,
- 7:13he was at, he was at shoeless Joe's the night that we hung
- 7:18out. So Tim and his dad used to just
- 7:24go autograph hunting and they would just go to shows and drive
- 7:28all over. And he he had like a Rodger
- 7:31Maris autograph that he got in person and it came back as not
- 7:35authentic from PSAI mean he was there.
- 7:38So there there is that element. So I haven't haven't shown.
- 7:44I mean, when this airs, this will come out, but I'm going to
- 7:48grab something real quick. So 5 seconds of dead air.
- 7:52Or you could just pause it. Pause.
- 7:54It. Yeah, you just pause it.
- 7:57Click on the pause. This one came yesterday.
- 8:00This is my Mikey Sean Astin autographed Goonies card. 1985
- 8:10Goonies, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:14It's 85. I didn't know if the card was a
- 8:17different year, but yeah. So I now have, I now have the
- 8:20whole, I have the main four. Yeah, eventually, yeah.
- 8:25Yeah. So that was yeah, it, it does
- 8:28matter to me. It does because the way I see it
- 8:33is they will make more mistakes saying that's not authentic,
- 8:38then it is authentic when it's not.
- 8:41I think that the companies will lean on, they will air on the
- 8:45side of caution because if let's just say that hypothetically,
- 8:51you and I had some autographs and we wanted to fake them and,
- 8:56and we make a video of ourselves signing them and then we send
- 9:00them into PSA and they get through and they come back as
- 9:04authentic. And then we go, ha, ha, look at
- 9:07us, we exposed you. We have the whole thing on tape.
- 9:12Like that would be really damaging to them.
- 9:15That would be really damaging. So I, I genuinely feel like
- 9:21their accuracy rate of saying yes is really high.
- 9:27I think their accuracy rate of saying no is much lower.
- 9:30I think there are a lot of authentic ones that come back
- 9:33unauthentic or inauthentic. I don't know what the right term
- 9:36is versus the opposite. So I do I do lean towards wanton
- 9:44authentic 1. I my chunk auto is not
- 9:48authenticated, but I have the how do I say this?
- 9:55I I have what is the the series of steps of who's owned it,
- 10:00whatever. The provenance.
- 10:02The provenance of the card was signed at a show at at a private
- 10:08signing. So I know it's real, even though
- 10:11I don't have it authenticated yet, but I'm probably going to
- 10:15send it in just because I feel like I don't know, I, I kind of
- 10:20feel like I should, even though I, I don't necessarily need to.
- 10:25So let me spin it around and ask you, what do you think?
- 10:28Yeah. First of all, I don't think PSA
- 10:30is saying this is not authentic because it says questionable
- 10:33authenticity. I think what they're saying is
- 10:35we can't authenticate this. We're not comfortable
- 10:38authenticating this. And I bet that there is a
- 10:40significant chunk of those questionable authenticities that
- 10:44they know are fraudulent, but they're not going to come out
- 10:47and say that. They will just say questionable
- 10:50authenticity because there are some of them.
- 10:52You see a lot of people who had in person like you're like the
- 10:55example you cited and PSA says this is questionable
- 10:59authenticity. We can't authenticate this
- 11:01because it doesn't come close to any of their, what's the word,
- 11:06exemplars for that person. Now for me, I did a lot of TTM
- 11:11for a couple years, 22 and 23. And those ones, I don't really
- 11:16care about getting them authenticated.
- 11:18I will at some point I'll do some, I mean, I'm, I'm going to
- 11:21start chipping away at some of my old autographs through
- 11:25CGCJSA, but it's, I like buying already authenticated
- 11:34autographs. Now I went through a phase where
- 11:35I was only buying them that raw unauthenticated, but now I do
- 11:42this way, you know, it's, I don't know it, it's easier for
- 11:46me because then I don't need to send it off to get authenticated
- 11:49at some future date if I decide to sell, which you know, if you
- 11:53if you want to sell your cards. We're always we are good friends
- 11:58with Chris Sewell and you should he sponsors service issues.
- 12:03He wants your collections. You should reach out to him at
- 12:07sewellsportscards@gmail.com. If you're interested in selling
- 12:11part or all of your collection, e-mail him the his e-mail
- 12:15address is in the description to this video or podcast.
- 12:19Or you can go to sportscardclubhouse.com.
- 12:22And what is the link partners or something like that friends.
- 12:25It's partners. Yeah, and reach out to him,
- 12:29offer him your collection. He'll give you the fairest deal
- 12:33imaginable. Sewell, sportscards@gmail.com
- 12:36And in fact, my episode this weekend, which will come out
- 12:40before this, actually, but I'm recording with Chris again.
- 12:43Two weeks in a row with Chris. Well, Chris is fantastic and his
- 12:48episode last week, I listened to it finally last night, I'm
- 12:51always a little bit behind on, well not always, but I'm usually
- 12:54a little bit behind. And his episode about dealing
- 12:59with the guy who got back into the hobby and was buying into
- 13:04breaks and was opening wax and I was trying to sell this stuff.
- 13:08It is devastating and and I've always really liked Chris, but
- 13:13man, I like him even more after listening to the way he handled
- 13:17that whole thing. What a good dude, man.
- 13:22Hey, while we're on this kind of self promotion thing here
- 13:27promoting Sports Car clubhouse, you recorded a podcast only
- 13:31episode with Ash that I listened to Tuesday afternoon, hours
- 13:34after it came out on my drive home from work.
- 13:36And it was fantastic. I had never talked to Ash
- 13:40before. I've been to his table.
- 13:40He's an amazing, this booth, I should say, at the National.
- 13:44I'd never talked to him. I've never even heard him talk
- 13:46before. And what a smart, charismatic
- 13:49dude. I, I would listen to that weekly
- 13:53if you guys wanted to do that. I thought it was really, really
- 13:55good. Well, I appreciate that.
- 13:58And, and, and I'd had him on the channel a couple of times
- 14:01previously. In fact, I was first introduced
- 14:05to him about this time, 2024 through a mutual friend.
- 14:11And, and he came on and, and the first time or two he came on it,
- 14:16you could tell he was like, well, I don't really know who
- 14:18this guy is and I'm talking to you.
- 14:20So he was a little bit guarded. And then, you know, he and I
- 14:23text a lot. I mean, we're, we're very
- 14:25friendly and he's like, let's do that more regularly.
- 14:29And I was like, OK, he's like, what about like once a month I'm
- 14:32like, let's do it. And so for the last like 2-3
- 14:35months, we've been talking about doing it more regularly.
- 14:38And, and, and again, I, you know, I've spoken to him on the
- 14:42phone many times. We've texted many times in
- 14:44person many times. And so I wasn't sure if he was
- 14:48still going to be kind of guarded.
- 14:49So I was kind of like, well, we'll see how this goes.
- 14:52And dude, he just let it RIP. Like it was really, he was
- 14:56really good. In fact, he texted me this
- 14:59morning and he said, has there been much like feedback or any
- 15:04comments? And I'm like, well, we we agreed
- 15:07that we would do this as a podcast only.
- 15:09And podcast only doesn't really have a lot of comments.
- 15:13It's it's more of a listen like you're listening to the radio.
- 15:16It's not like AI mean there there is a way to comment, but
- 15:20it's not really something that people do.
- 15:23So like there hadn't been. But anecdotally, I had a lot of
- 15:26people say that was really interesting.
- 15:28So I appreciate that and I will pass it on to him.
- 15:31But yeah, we're, we're planning on doing that about once a
- 15:35month. And then I'm, I'm going to try
- 15:38to do a second podcast only because I've mentioned this many
- 15:45times to you. I love what we're doing right
- 15:48now. I just recorded with Mike
- 15:50Moynihan earlier in the week. I recorded with Darren earlier
- 15:53in the week and and this is my favorite thing at this point.
- 15:57And and I know that this doesn't get crazy views, like my views
- 16:02are down. The last six months are the
- 16:06lowest my views have been in two years, but I enjoy this more.
- 16:11And so if I was, I mean, when people say, Greg, you're click
- 16:16bait, I'm like, you're crazy. Although I did, I did have a
- 16:20video today that said I'm selling my cards, which was the
- 16:25title of an episode with Theo on the CIA auction because I have 8
- 16:30cards on the current CIA auction.
- 16:32But yeah, I I'm not, I don't think of myself as a click bait
- 16:35guy. But anyway.
- 16:37So I appreciate the kind words. Very nice of you.
- 16:42OK, so here's my question. I my first question back to you
- 16:46for dueling questions. So the banjo has been playing.
- 16:49Now it's guitar time. I you're the banjo, I'm the
- 16:53guitar. I, I've had a lot of people over
- 16:58the last week respond to some of my thoughts about Strongsville
- 17:07and I've heard some other people return respond to some thoughts
- 17:13about Strongsville. And a lot of people are saying I
- 17:20don't understand how the YouTube community is upset about
- 17:28Strongsville being changed or different or whatever, because
- 17:34you guys are the reason it changed.
- 17:38So my question is, and, and I can read, I have a comment
- 17:42queued up if you want me to read it to go further into this if
- 17:45you want. But do you think that we ruined
- 17:52Strongsville, the YouTube community?
- 17:56Well, ruined it, I think is a little bit too strong of a word.
- 18:00You found something that you loved.
- 18:03I should say we even though I've never been before until
- 18:06hopefully three months from now, you found something you loved,
- 18:09you promoted it. You said this is awesome.
- 18:12And then it became corporate because it was it became so
- 18:14popular they it outgrew the location it was at and probably
- 18:20became an appealing merger target for this.
- 18:23I don't know. I assume this other show is much
- 18:25bigger. And yeah, I think that that is
- 18:30definitely a valid point. But I don't think there should
- 18:35be criticism. Are they criticizing the YouTube
- 18:37community over it? I don't necessary.
- 18:42I mean, I want me to read the comment.
- 18:44It's. Let's read it.
- 18:45Barely lengthy comment and and I will say this, this is a friend
- 18:48of mine. This is a friend of mine who who
- 18:51left this comment. He is anonymous to the YouTube
- 18:56world and he's nobody would know him in this community or people
- 19:00but some people. Anyway, I'll read it.
- 19:02It's fairly lengthy but here we go.
- 19:04With all due respect, Strongsville was pretty darn
- 19:07awesome pre YouTube convergence. As a collector that traveled
- 19:122000 miles to attend to pre 2024 Strongsville shows solo and with
- 19:19one of my sons, the Strongsville show was pretty darn near
- 19:22perfect. It was gritty, old school, raw
- 19:25and relatively sleepy with incredible dealers in terrific
- 19:29vintage. Hall of farmers mingled with
- 19:32collectors. In fact, I had the pleasure of
- 19:35driving a Hall of Famer to the airport early one morning.
- 19:39The people were great and it did not require the presence of
- 19:43Youtubers to make it special. It was held at the hotel in the
- 19:47ballrooms. That changed in 2024.
- 19:51I met Mr. Petty and Darren that year and really enjoyed that.
- 19:54Terrific people. But the horde of Youtubers
- 19:57really changed the vibe. You've all seen it.
- 20:00How many YouTube videos yapped on and on about it's only 100
- 20:05days till Strongsville, almost Strongsville and the frat house
- 20:08vibe at Strongsville. Those videos got clicks.
- 20:12Hurray for monetization. But it was overhyped by many who
- 20:18had never even been to Strongsville.
- 20:21In 2024 the clown cars descended and it changed in 2025.
- 20:26I hear it's was really something.
- 20:29For those of you who are feeling displaced and or griping about
- 20:33it. How many of you came for the
- 20:35first time in 2024 or 2025I recall Crystal Missouri in 2023,
- 20:42the pre YouTube version of himself.
- 20:44But honestly not many of the come lately guys knew what the
- 20:49show was all about, had never been, and are making this about
- 20:53themselves. For those people, you are the
- 20:56reason the show changed. Before feeling too sorry for
- 21:00yourselves, imagine how the pre 2024 Strongsville attendees
- 21:05feel. The promoters of the show are
- 21:08not to blame. It got too big and too
- 21:10corporate. YouTube is a big corporation
- 21:13too. I love that comment, the passion
- 21:18and this person is not name calling.
- 21:22It's a very well thought out, very passionate comment and that
- 21:26I love that comment from whoever that is.
- 21:30I think that there are a lot of valid points there, but when you
- 21:36love something and it grows, that's just kind of what's going
- 21:45to happen. And I think for me, I've never
- 21:48been before. So I, I've never promoted
- 21:50Strongsville. I've never had a video about
- 21:52Strongsville. But I, I wouldn't even be mad at
- 21:58the organizers if they had let the YouTube community, let the
- 22:03vintage community, past attendees know that they're
- 22:07moving it and give a little bit more time.
- 22:08There are a lot of people who had hotel rooms, including me,
- 22:12in Strongsville, and what if we hadn't been able to cancel
- 22:14those? Yeah.
- 22:16And we had to eat the that money or stay in Strongsville and then
- 22:21commute. I think it's like 30 miles into
- 22:23Independence. Do you?
- 22:27Do you follow Dave Portnoy much? No.
- 22:31So Dave Portnoy of bench clear, not bench clear.
- 22:37I know who he is. What is he?
- 22:39What is his show is? What are they?
- 22:42If you hadn't said bench clear I'd I'd have it.
- 22:47Dave Portnoy. I don't know why my rant is.
- 22:49Presidente He's. Presidente too.
- 22:52Much of a loudmouth. For me, barstools.
- 22:54Barstool Sports. Yeah, I he.
- 22:57Has he has he has this thing he does it's it's pizza reviews yes
- 23:01and and I. He's been into, he's been into
- 23:04Maine a few times and it's a big deal when he comes into Maine.
- 23:07Oh, I love his pizza reviews like they're, it's just, it's
- 23:12entertaining, they're funny. They're he's he's very raw in
- 23:19his takes on it. I enjoy them.
- 23:21Some people I know hate them. I find them funny.
- 23:25So when they come across my TikTok feed, I watch the whole
- 23:28thing. And what he does is he goes to
- 23:31different pizza joints and then he reviews it and and there's so
- 23:35much of A following and so much of A following of what his
- 23:38opinion is of a pizza place that if he gives a place a good
- 23:42review, the place is slammed for months.
- 23:47And imagine being the guy who loves his local little pizza
- 23:52joint and has been going there every Thursday afternoon, you
- 23:56know, after work and gets his pizza and his beer and he loves
- 23:59it. And then Dave Portnoy shows up
- 24:01and Dave Portnoy goes, this pizza is the best pizza I've
- 24:04ever had. And then that guy can't go back
- 24:08to his pizza place. That's kind of in, in not kind
- 24:13of that's basically what happened.
- 24:16And so you don't think we ruined it?
- 24:19You think we changed it? Well, I think it was ruined for
- 24:24that person and anybody else who was passionate about where it
- 24:27was and how it was. But yeah, I mean, the the change
- 24:32is definitely due to popularity, increased popularity, which was
- 24:38brought on by the YouTube community.
- 24:40I I agree with that person in a lot of ways.
- 24:43Yeah, I do too. I do too.
- 24:45And, and my response was that, and then I texted him as well.
- 24:52I said, I agree with you. In fact, I went on Mike
- 24:55Moynihan's channel for the first time in two years this week.
- 24:58That video posted today. And I said almost word for word
- 25:01what your comment states. The YouTube convergence on the
- 25:05show changed it and is ultimately responsible for its
- 25:08changing. I, I can't disagree with it.
- 25:12I, I, I, he's dead on. And, and it is well written
- 25:15because he's an insanely intelligent person.
- 25:20OK, so we've each asked one question.
- 25:23Your turn for question number. This is actually pretty fun.
- 25:26I like this question #2 from you.
- 25:29Yeah, so this is a real life example and you're going to
- 25:31recognize it immediately, but this is something that I've been
- 25:33thinking a lot about. So you have been looking for a
- 25:37card for three years. It is a grail for you.
- 25:41There are only 30 of them graded.
- 25:43I already know what it is. Yes, yes there are. 30 of them
- 25:47graded among the four big. Graders are there only 30 really
- 25:51at this? Point it's been weeks since I
- 25:53looked but I I'm pretty sure it's in the 30s.
- 25:55Oh wow, I did, but. This is random.
- 25:57This is not that specific. Sure, sure, sure it is, of
- 25:59course. And it comes up your your eBay
- 26:03alert hits and there is that card and it is a stunner.
- 26:08It's it's the perfect grade for you.
- 26:11It looks amazing and you text your group, your your one of
- 26:17your friend groups of hobbyists and say, here's my card.
- 26:21Hypothetically, here's my card. And somebody else says, holy
- 26:26cow, I've been waiting for that for years too.
- 26:29And I already hadn't had it on my watch list as soon as it
- 26:33popped up this morning. Here's why I went.
- 26:36Hypothetically, it popped up the previous night while the other
- 26:39person was still sleeping. But hypothetically.
- 26:42But go ahead. And then you that that person
- 26:45says, here's why it's so important to me.
- 26:49And you think, what do you would you rather have?
- 26:53The card that you've been waiting for years or the
- 26:56friendship? Because you can't have both?
- 26:58Oh, are you saying that our friendship was put into
- 27:01question? Here, No, what I'm saying is if
- 27:05I, if I had bid on that card, knowing how important it was to
- 27:09you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
- 27:13Well, that's a little extreme. No, I don't think so.
- 27:17That's just the way I am. I as soon as you texted back
- 27:20saying that's I'm watching that card.
- 27:24It's been super important to me for years and here's why.
- 27:28I was like poop, I'm out. OK, so hypothetically.
- 27:41Let's just, I mean, I, I don't want to expose the card yet
- 27:44because when this podcast drops, it's the same day my video is
- 27:47going to drop. So if you're listening to this
- 27:49also, and and it's on Saturday the 10th, I can't January.
- 27:54I have a video that came out today.
- 27:57And as I recorded the video, which I did last night, I
- 28:00recorded the video last night about the addition.
- 28:03I was holding back tears as I, I mean, it's a really, I mean a
- 28:09really important card to me. I, I, first of all, I think that
- 28:20bidding on a card that I'm an analogy guy.
- 28:25And so the instant analogy that comes up to me is when you're in
- 28:32high school and you and your buddy kind of secretly like the
- 28:36same girl, and you both have your eye on this girl.
- 28:41And your buddy says, hey, dude, I think I'm going to ask her
- 28:46out. And you're like, that's the girl
- 28:48I was going to ask out. What do you do?
- 28:51What do you do in that situation?
- 28:53Do you step aside? Because I had multiple times, I
- 28:57had that situation before. And what I always did is I
- 29:02always stepped aside. I always stepped aside.
- 29:06I think that it depends on the look in the person's eye.
- 29:10Like if the, if the look in the other person's eye for the card
- 29:14is, is you can tell that it's greater than your own.
- 29:18You, you, you look and you go, this person wants it more than
- 29:23me. So I'm going to, I'm going to
- 29:26step to the side on this one. If the person, they like it and
- 29:32yeah, they've wanted it. And yeah, this one popped up.
- 29:35I think that's a little bit different.
- 29:38Definitely don't bid against your friend.
- 29:42You, you have to, you and your friend have to decide who's
- 29:46going to go for this one, because otherwise, you know,
- 29:50it's like, it's like the Fonz and Richie going for the same
- 29:55girl and it's not really all. The Fonz here.
- 29:58Of course, you're the Fonz. So I think that I think that you
- 30:05just have to read the situation on, on, on where each person's
- 30:12heart is, Is this a card that they would really like or is
- 30:17this the card that they really want?
- 30:23The funny thing is though, that this is this is not the first
- 30:27time this has happened with us at the National.
- 30:31There was the Cy Young. Now that was a lot different,
- 30:34like that was a card. That I wasn't, I wasn't sold on.
- 30:39That was one where I was like, I would love to really consider
- 30:42buying it. Yeah.
- 30:44The card in question, I feel like we're going to expose what
- 30:48it is that we keep talking, but the card in question is
- 30:52definitely rarer and it is definitely a lot of them are are
- 31:00pretty beat, beat up. And it's also interesting
- 31:04because two but but this was sort of an A potential saving
- 31:08grace is this card doesn't come up and then 2 ended on the same
- 31:15night. Within like a minute of each
- 31:17other. No, it was more than that was
- 31:18like 30 minutes of each other. And So what it actually gave us
- 31:24a, it was like you were like, I can tell this means more to you
- 31:28than me, even though I really, really want it.
- 31:30This means more to you than me. So you go for the more premier
- 31:36example and I'm going to go for the quote UN quote lesser
- 31:40example. And mine ended 1st and I got it
- 31:47and yours ended 2nd and you bid way higher than I thought you
- 31:54were going to have to go way higher than comps and didn't get
- 31:58it. So it could have had a really
- 32:00happy ending, but it didn't. It would have been so much fun,
- 32:04but I didn't. I didn't know about the second
- 32:05one for days after deciding not to bid on the 1 you were going
- 32:08for. Oh.
- 32:09Really. You had mentioned there was
- 32:10another one. You wouldn't, You didn't say
- 32:13where it was. I can find it anywhere.
- 32:15And it wasn't until I reached out to to mark at auction wire
- 32:20and said, Hey, this this card, the one that you were going to
- 32:25bid on isn't popping up, isn't popping up and he.
- 32:28Said they had the wrong year. No, Oh, the one that you were
- 32:32bidding on had the right year, but it wasn't popping up.
- 32:35And he said that's weird. You're right, I'm going to work
- 32:38on it. But I did find this one and it
- 32:40was 19. It was the year later.
- 32:42They had the wrong year. And I was like, ha, ha.
- 32:45And that's when I texted you and said, is that other one you
- 32:47found because it's the wrong year?
- 32:50And you said yes. And then I said, OK, I'm going
- 32:52to bid on that one. I I knew about both of them the
- 32:55whole time I could. Not find it.
- 32:58I looked so weird everywhere. If I had known you were looking,
- 33:01I, I had them both because I am, I am an insane eBay saved search
- 33:08person. So I will go.
- 33:11If hypothetically this was a card of T20 6TY Cobb red, I
- 33:17would say T20 6TY Cobb red. PS: AT2O6 Ty Cobb red SGCT 2O6
- 33:24Ty Cobb, Ty Cobb, you know, cobbb AT2O6 Like I put in like
- 33:30anything that anybody could possibly do.
- 33:32So whenever these rare quote UN quote rare cards Bob up, they
- 33:36always hit one of my searches and sometimes they don't hit all
- 33:39of them. But this one, I knew about both,
- 33:41which is super interesting. And I also, I do think one of
- 33:45the reasons that the one I got went for less is because there
- 33:50was sort of a backup. Like if you don't get it,
- 33:53there's this other one. And then the other 1 ended up
- 33:55going pretty high. Yeah, for sure.
- 34:00Disappointingly high, but I sent you.
- 34:03Pictures of the card because the card came in the mail.
- 34:06No, I've got yesterday. I'm going to see the.
- 34:09Video I'm going to say now I'm going to say I do mid video.
- 34:13I for me though, cards are nowhere near as important as
- 34:18friendships, and I think that a lot of people will nod their
- 34:21heads as they're listening. I would never feel good about
- 34:27bidding on or especially winning a card that you wanted.
- 34:33Yeah, 100% agree with you on that.
- 34:38I think that is undeniable and I I think that I think that.
- 34:47And by the way, just let me just finish here for a SEC, because I
- 34:49think this, the people bid on cards, they're friends.
- 34:53And I'm not criticizing people who bid on cards that their
- 34:57friends are bidding because a lot of people have rare cards.
- 35:01And that's just one person against the other mentality,
- 35:06which is fine. It's just I, I wouldn't, I
- 35:09couldn't do it myself. Yeah, yeah, I just sent you a
- 35:13picture of it, the I, I. Yeah.
- 35:18The back has a little. I know there's a little paper
- 35:22loss on the back is and I'll send you a picture of that
- 35:24later. I flipped my phone over to see
- 35:27the back. Oops, I just showed it.
- 35:32No, they I looked you didn't quite.
- 35:35I yeah, I agree with you. I agree with you.
- 35:38These cards are just things. They're things at the end of the
- 35:41day. And I love these things, but
- 35:44these things are a medium for me to be able to make the friends
- 35:49and and have something in common with the friends.
- 35:51And, and I mean, I'm going down to the Burbank West Coast card
- 35:56share whatever in LA in February.
- 35:59And honestly, I'm going to try really hard not to buy anything.
- 36:03I mean, and I'm going to spend, I'm going to spend like 6 or
- 36:07$700.00 on the trip to go to the show.
- 36:12And I don't think I'm going to buy anything.
- 36:13I'm basically taking 6 or $700.00 out of my card funds to
- 36:18go down and hang out with some friends.
- 36:22And, and I've got four or five friends, my buddy Dave with the
- 36:26amazing collection, Tony Petty, Josh rated rookie.
- 36:32There's a bunch of people that are going to be there.
- 36:35And I'm like, it's worth, it's worth taking $700.00 out of my
- 36:39card account to go hang out with my card friends.
- 36:44So I could have bought a $700.00 card, but I'd rather hang out
- 36:48with my card friends instead. So all right, I, I had, I wrote
- 36:54down 4 questions and, and I used one of them and I'm going to,
- 37:00and we have time for me to ask my last one.
- 37:04I'm going to go with not when I was expecting that.
- 37:10OK, I want you to pick 2 cards, 2 cards.
- 37:15This is currently January 8th, 2026.
- 37:21Let's Fast forward to January 8th, 2036.
- 37:28What are the 2 cards? 2 not player, not, you know,
- 37:34maybe something from the 54 top set. 2 specific cards that you
- 37:41think 10 years from today will have gone up the most in value.
- 37:46Now I know everyone. Oh, value.
- 37:48I don't talk about value. OK, I'm going to.
- 37:49I'm asking you about value. What are the 2 cards that you
- 37:53think will go up the most the next 10 years?
- 37:57I think that card you just bought.
- 38:02You can't say that you don't really believe that.
- 38:04I do really, yeah. I think that that segment of the
- 38:10hobby, and I'm going to be very careful not to spoil anything so
- 38:12people go and watch your video. That segment of the hobby has a
- 38:16ton of potential and that specific card stunning.
- 38:21It's just outrageous that some point there's going to be
- 38:23grading that is better for I appeal.
- 38:26And there's little things like NBA and there's iappeal.com, but
- 38:30there's going to be something on slabs outside of the NBA
- 38:34stickers that improves the value of APSA One or PSA Authentic or
- 38:42whatever the the best grading company is, is going to have
- 38:46something about I appeal other than giving 1/2 point better
- 38:50grade. Something that says this card is
- 38:54a banger for any collector. And that's the type of card
- 38:59that's what I love is those very low grade high eye appeal cards.
- 39:05So 2 specific cards, let's just say it's going to be the same
- 39:08ones that are wildly popular and skyrocketing in value.
- 39:13Now the 52 mantle. So the 52 mantle, from an
- 39:18investment standpoint, you think we'll see the most appreciation
- 39:23in 10 years, one of the two? Yeah, because as we add more and
- 39:29more millionaires to the, the country in the world and more
- 39:34people talk about diversifying their retirement and their their
- 39:40portfolios and moving into sports cards.
- 39:43Assuming that we stay on this track, assuming that nothing
- 39:47changes, the more famous that mantle and the more desirable it
- 39:54becomes. And we know the supply is only
- 39:57going up because people are finding them.
- 39:59And once you find one, it goes it it stays in the hobby, right.
- 40:03It's not going to once it's found in somebody's attic or in
- 40:06somebody's basement, it's not going back into an attic or
- 40:09basement again. But not going up by much.
- 40:14It's staying quite static, less than the number of millionaires
- 40:20we're gaining. And that is the type of card
- 40:25that will be famous for a century.
- 40:29OK. So, so that was your first card,
- 40:32right? Or are you saying that your
- 40:34second card was the card that I just bought?
- 40:36Are you not going to pick another one?
- 40:38No, the second card is probably going to be the 89 upper deck
- 40:44Griffey. No way.
- 40:46Think about it this way. Think about it this way.
- 40:48That card was I was 10 years old when it came out.
- 40:52I'm 46 now, almost 47 and I am just now at a point where I can
- 40:59afford decent cards. My generation getting into their
- 41:04mid 40s. And then I was like the
- 41:08youngest, right? Well, that's, that's not the way
- 41:10I wanted to say this. You're going to have people in
- 41:13there who are in their 30s now in 10 years able to afford that
- 41:17card more. And the PSA 10 is probably,
- 41:22it's, I think right now it's at a peak, it's going to come down,
- 41:25but in 10 years it's going to be up.
- 41:29So there are, there are four, there are 4232 tens.
- 41:37In 10 years they'll probably be, I don't know, 5000 of them.
- 41:42Yeah, at least because people with nines are going to keep
- 41:45submitting them eights. They're 45,000 eights.
- 41:52Wow. I am really surprised to hear
- 41:55you say that. I'm really surprised.
- 41:59OK, Hey, I mean. I don't want to say something
- 42:01boring like a Shohei Otani numbered to 5.
- 42:05There's no such thing as a boring answer.
- 42:07No, it's just stupid. OK.
- 42:11Five people can. Do you think Shohei cards will
- 42:14be worth exponentially more in tenure?
- 42:16Do you think? I mean, yeah.
- 42:20I do, yeah. OK, All right.
- 42:26Well, we're at 42 1/2 minutes. Anything else you got for me?
- 42:33Any any fluff news or no? No.
- 42:38Nothing new on fluff, No. But we're going to make fluff
- 42:42sandwiches at the at Strongsville.
- 42:44I mean, of course we are. Yeah.
- 42:48So next week we will find a way to record, but we'll have to
- 42:51record early because I will win it.
- 42:54When our video drops, I will be like at the happiest place on
- 42:59Earth, but we'll still find a way.
- 43:00So if you're out there, just know we'll still be recording
- 43:05something. And yeah, Strongsville, we're
- 43:08getting there. It's going to be fun.
- 43:10New changes. And yes, I agree that we
- 43:14definitely affected it a lot and I hope that we didn't ruin it
- 43:23for too many people. So that's it.
- 43:28We're done. All right.
- 43:29All right, buddy. Thanks.
- 43:31Bye.
