- 0:00Whenever we act in the world, whether it is a job or any kind
- 0:06of activity that involves the expression of energy in the
- 0:09external world, whether physical, vital, mental,
- 0:12etcetera, we generally do so with a particular ambition,
- 0:17motivation, desire or need. It could be based on physical
- 0:23needs for food, clothing and shelter.
- 0:26It could be based on vital desires or some form of
- 0:29ambition, A seeking for some physical, vital, emotional or
- 0:33mental satisfaction. It could be a form of vanity or
- 0:38a seeking after fame or glory, wealth or other forms of
- 0:42recognition. We would be hard pressed if we
- 0:46examine our actions closely to find any act that is not based
- 0:51in some motive of the ego personality.
- 0:55Even work that looks like it is charitable or without a personal
- 0:59motive, if we scratch the surface, may have some kind of
- 1:04ulterior motivation or ego satisfaction mechanism taking
- 1:08place. For a work to advance the seeker
- 1:12spiritually, it must be free of all these motivations.
- 1:16The most obvious way is to have the psychic being come forward,
- 1:20guiding and managing the action based on aspiration,
- 1:24consecration and devotional surrender.
- 1:28Even here, however, we frequently see a form of ego
- 1:32presentation getting some satisfaction, so it is not
- 1:36always as simple as we may believe.
- 1:41In his book The Mother, Srioro Bindo advises that the effort
- 1:45required of the spiritual seeker is 1 of aspiration, rejection,
- 1:50surrender. This is a constant work both in
- 1:53terms of the psychic aspiration leading but also the inward view
- 1:59that spots the ego motives and rejects them, leading to a
- 2:03surrender to the higher force. The Bhagavad Gita explores the
- 2:08idea of work done without desire for the fruits done for the
- 2:12benefit of all, without self seeking or self dealing.
- 2:17Srioro Bindu explores the meaning of the Gita's
- 2:19prescription for how to be a selfless worker in the world.
- 2:23In his essays on the Gita. He provides A brief overview.
- 2:27Here Srioro Bindu observes quote the spiritual eve activity of
- 2:34work depends on the inner attitude.
- 2:38The only work that spiritually purifies is that which is done
- 2:42without personal motives, without desire for fame or
- 2:46public recognition or worldly greatness, without insistence on
- 2:51one's own mental motives or vital lusts and demands or
- 2:54physical preferences, without vanity or crude self assertion
- 2:59or claim for position or prestige.
- 3:02All work done in an egoistic spirit, however good for people
- 3:07in the world of the ignorance, is of no avail to the seeker of
- 3:12the yoga. End Quote Reference Shrioro
