- 0:04[SPEAKER_05]: All right, welcome back to the show, others receiving votes.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_05]: Pat Forty, along with my usual side kicks, Jeanne Wojhowski, and Brian Fisher.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_05]: And you know, gentlemen, we made it through the salute to Veterans Ball.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_05]: We endured a truly dreadful cure ball.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_05]: Added dramatic 68 ventures ball.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_05]: But we'd better be talking about the playoff.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_05]: We've been talking about it all year, and it's finally here.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_05]: We're gonna play some playoff games this weekend.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_03]: Playoff?
- 0:36[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_05]: Those playoffs.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you, Jim Mora.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_05]: And it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_05]: Brian, I think's going to two games.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to one.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_05]: Before we get into that, we're going to also, I'll give you the run-down on what else we're going to cover.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_05]: We're going to check in on the Messet and Michigan, which exploded not long after we wrapped taping on the podcast last week.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_05]: We'll discuss these state of things in college football, as expressed by Eli Drinkwitz, the Missouri Coach, who has some interesting thoughts.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_05]: I will respond to the worst take in recorded history from Joel
- 1:14[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I like, but not on this subject, and I will ask you guys the most annoying possible question at this time of year, are you ready?
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_05]: We're going to start, like I said, with the playoff, we're going to look at the four first round games.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_05]: I want to start with this question for you, Gene, a lot of pressure this time of year.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: Who's Eugene?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_03]: I get it.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_05]: That's funny.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know docks necessarily related here, but maybe we'll see what you have to say.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_05]: Which team is one of the most pressure in the playoffs?
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: It almost seems like a trick question.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama to me, and there's not a second place.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: half the world.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe more doesn't think they belong in the playoff because they still have the stink of that loss in the SEC championship to them.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_03]: Their head coach is still answering questions about the latest opening in the Big 10.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm still not sure he's convinced anybody that he wouldn't leave.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: Notre Dame Stick and Voodoo pins in the
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think that they're the team that everybody thinks really doesn't belong in this field and if they lose this game and they're favored by the way, even though they lost Oklahoma at Bama earlier in the season, which is just another little pressure point for them.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: they're going to hear about it.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: And you know how well fellows, they take losses in the state of Alabama when the when the tide loses.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they're only that creep on every freeway except in the greater Auburn area.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: So I just I don't even see a number two in this, but maybe you guys have a better idea than Bama.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: I do have a better idea, but go ahead, Brian.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: uh... you know i'm i'm gonna go with all miss you know i i think that the rebels have have a ton of pressure on them just given everything that has happened over the last what six weeks you know and just in terms of the link kiffin drama i mean there is a ton of pressure on peak golding in particular but uh... i think the rebels themselves you know as a team i mean this this is one of the biggest moments in school history that they are facing on Saturday
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: home playoff game.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's against a group of five team that they've already played.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: They've already blown out earlier in the season like that.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: That to me is not only a rematch with a lot of pressure, but there's both internal stuff and external stuff that has been going on.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's been a lot of talk about this program about what it's going to be moving forward.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is a close second to Alabama there, Gene, and in terms of old myths, you know, that to me sticks out, just in terms of, look, everybody's been talking about this, this team and this program, how are they going to handle that pressure?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: What if things get tight there in the second half against the green wave?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like that is a, that that's just going to ramp things up even more.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, we've seen teams get tight in certain playoff situations.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what the Rupples have to say for themselves on Saturday.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_05]: I am with you, Brian.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_05]: I think I think Ole Miss has the most pressure in this tournament.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_05]: Certainly in the first round, given the stakes, given what went down, given the administrative decision to say, no Lane Kiffin, we don't want you to coach this game.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_05]: Go ahead and go to Baton Rouge.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_05]: Pete Golden, get in here.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_05]: You take over.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_05]: And you are playing a team you've already beaten by 35 points and you're playing at home and this is going to be a big old media side show I can tell you that they've already put out something via the the sports information department hey.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you have a credential, but if you're not coming, let us know because we're overflow in the press box and we're turning down people and we're putting them on weightless.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_05]: So everybody is watching what Pete Golding's going to do in his first game as a head coach.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_05]: He's so one of those a little bit prematurely gray guys, I bet he's going to be more gray by kickoff than he is on Thursday.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_05]: You have to win this game.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_05]: I think I think I think they should.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_05]: But still, as you said, Brian, if this gets tight in the second half, oh my, oh my, oh my Alabama, yeah, absolutely, there's pressure on them too.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_05]: I agree.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_05]: And I would also throw in.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_05]: that Oregon has some pressure to perform after the face plan of last year as the number one seed.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_05]: Ohio State was a great team, but they got totally trucked in their first and only playoff game as an undefeated number one seed.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, well, what about Miami?
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, with their Miami other too.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we can't forget about the Cains.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just in terms of, yes, they are carrying the banner of the ACC too.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: I, I throw that out there.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, the controversial nature of them getting em, you know, Gene mentioned the, the pushpins going into the, the voodoo dolls.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: no name fans are definitely putting that into to the Miami Doll as well this this this weekend and you know that's going to be a pressure pack environment down there in college station you know there's going to be a hundred and thousand plus swaying aggie fans that are going to be forcing right to force a Carson back to have some turnovers plus
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: Might be a bit quite a pretty penny on this roster in general, not only their quarterback, but the entire roster in general.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I think a lot of those hurricanes fans that did pony up for some of that money, they would be looking for a little return on their investment in this first round as well.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: So there's going to be a lot of pressure, especially if things are tight in the second half.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: We all know Mario Crystal Ball and how he can get sometimes in some of these close games.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the canes are not without pressure in this this first round either.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_05]: True, and look, there's a lot of voodoo pins to go around for Notre Dame fans right now.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_05]: They're using all of them.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_05]: They've made a big push on them.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know where you go to buy voodoo pins.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_05]: You know, if there's voodoo warehouse out there, you can order them online, but New Orleans?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_05]: New Orleans, yeah.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_05]: They're getting it.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_05]: Notre Dame will be sitting there waiting to see teams fall.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_05]: That's for sure.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the SEC, you know, you know, the big tends to kind of play with house money after back to back national titles, they've got the three elite teams in this kind of bracket that are capable of winning it all, but the SEC, they have more teams than anybody, but you know, can they not only in the big ten dominance that we've seen in the play off the last two years, but you know,
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: you've got a lot of shots.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: You've got teams that are capable of going on runs.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the bracket necessarily sets up that well because you're going to possibly have two SEC teams meeting in the sugar bowl in that quarter final.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the SEC is under a ton of pressure.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: We've heard Greg, thank you talk about how there should have been seven teams from the league and getting into the playoff.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that kind of sits at the bar pretty high and look
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: the bar is pretty high in the league where it just means more in general you know what they they expect to kind of win national titles that's that's the thing that they have set uh... kind of as the standard over the last two decades and uh... the fact that they were to come up short if they were you know potentially not even to have uh... only only one team and in the semi-linals that uh... that to me puts a lot of pressure on the SEC and a lot of pressure on those head coaches too and i think they they understand that
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: they understand where where the level is that they need to get to and it's especially true because when you look at the big tin in general kind of there they want to compare themselves to that that's the league that they say hey we're a power to it's the SEC versus the big tin they're they're they've not shied away from that at all and look you look at next year Oregon has a lot coming back
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: obviously Ohio State has a lot coming back, you know, this USC has been building.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: So the league in the big 10 is getting deeper.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's going to make this big 10 versus SEC comparison even more apt, come play off time.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: And this might be the one year where the the SEC needs to knock off the big 10 or else maybe the big 10 goes on and even more extended run than just three straight national titles.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with you.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think the SEC has the most pressure.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to lose at least one team out of the five and they could lose two.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: This first round if Miami beats Texas A&M.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: So losing 40% of your SEC field isn't a good look for that conference.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_03]: But let me ask you, what's the number one ranked team in the playoff?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: In the end now.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_03]: What's the number two ranked team in the oil state?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: five.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so three of the top five teams in the rankings are big 10 teams.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_03]: So if they underperform while I'm still sticking with the SEC, you can make a case for the big 10 having a little pressure on them to giving their places in the rankings.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no, I look, I'm not going to argue with either of you guys, but for diversity sake, I will throw out the ACC, which at better see Miami show up because a lot of people thought Miami shouldn't have been there to begin with, given the extent to which Miami went to lobby for the hurricanes.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_05]: I went to bat for them and infuriated semi member Notre Dame.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_05]: uh, the hurricanes need to back up their positioning especially, you know, the whole thing of how
- 10:30[SPEAKER_05]: Miami, or the ACC has been perceived by, mostly by its own doing throughout this season, you know, lightweight conference, did not perform well in the non-conference play, ended up screwing up their tiebreaker situation, which put Miami out of the championship game, which was then won by Duke, which then jeopardized them getting anybody in.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_05]: And then just, you know, for Fuzzy's, they added this bizarre
- 10:56[SPEAKER_05]: 2026 scheduling thing where 12 teams are going to play nine games and five are going to play eight and the math isn't mathing very well.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_05]: So this would be a good time for Miami to show up on College Station get a win for the ACC.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_05]: So people give that conference a little bit of respect here.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_05]: All right, now this was a topic last year and I can fully anticipate it being a topic this year because there's one thing a lot of people in the college football establishment don't like and that's the presence of anybody other than the most powerful programs ii group of five teams in here two lane and James Madison last year the opening round margin of defeat was 19 points
- 11:42[SPEAKER_05]: which a NFL it was 15 so the NFL first round the playoffs was full of non-competitive games as well but how much blowback is there going to be if there are blowouts and I think there's going to be plenty and that goes to the point Joel Clatt made which was about a different sport we'll get to that later here in the show but
- 12:03[SPEAKER_05]: It's really weird how people just don't even like the idea of a Cinderella and football, the way they do in basketball and other sports.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_05]: Like, for some reason, there is this resistance to it.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_05]: I think there's just such an ingrained hierarchy of who is good or should be good versus who is not.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_05]: And I think so much of that goes to laundry and tradition,
- 12:29[SPEAKER_05]: You could look, the athletic had a poll of coaches, like 25 coaches or something about who is going to win the playoff here and like Indiana got 4%.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_05]: Who watches Indiana and thinks they really don't have any chance to win the championship?
- 12:44[SPEAKER_05]: I don't.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe you guys do, but like, that's goes back to my brain can't compute Indiana's good.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_05]: And so people's brains, well, two lane can't be good.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_05]: now, Tulane does have to overcome the fact that they lost the team they're playing by 35 points.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_05]: So it would really be who people like me who want to see other conferences get into this for Tulane to not get trucked and for James Madison to not get trucked because I think there will be people sitting out there waiting to say, see.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_05]: It'd be better if we had Notre Dame in there, it'd be better if we had Texas in there.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_05]: We want the brand names.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_05]: We don't want diversity in here.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_05]: So I think that there will be blowback for sure if those games are not competitive.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_03]: But Pat, the other two brands that could have a complaint if those two
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: G-6 teams are blown out would be non-brand names and I would throw BYU in there, maybe there's semi-brand in Vanderbilt.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's a question of people saying JMU isn't a really good team or to lane isn't a really good team.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think the question is are they one of the 12 best teams in the country?
- 14:03[SPEAKER_03]: and I think that's where the debate is.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with you.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: I have no problem with having a G-16 in there, but from a competitive standpoint, if there are blowouts, and last year we only had what, one G-16 Boisey.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: This year we have two.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_03]: So both of those teams get blown out.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's going to be more noise about it.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: And let me tell you, the Notre Dame fans are going to be insufferable if both of those teams get blown out.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's where this all stems from.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: But from the idea of, is there anything wrong with having a team that isn't necessarily one of the legacy programs?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm fine with it.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: On the the bigger issue too is that nobody's going to watch those blowouts because they're going to flip over to the NFL games and then they're going to have some some big big hot take over the inclusion of these G6 games even though they probably did not end up watching half half of the actual contest and actually seeing those teams in actions that that's going to be the more frustrating thing if there are some of these blowouts and
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think we always want to take these bigger picture concepts from some such a limited sample size.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to it's one team versus the other.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Some one, you know, one of their head coaches is both their head coaches are now leaving.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: You got in members of the staff that are leaving.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: We know players are going to enter their transfer portal as soon as these games are over.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: So like there's these two G six teams are actually quite a bit in flux.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: And so if they do in an end up getting blown out, it's at least a little bit understandable.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: But we're going to have some some some big takeways from a lot of personality that out there right before Christmas about oh we shouldn't include these games and is already started that drum beat has already started and you know I just I just don't get it you know what these teams deserve to be in they've done everything that was asked of them they were ranked as high as they should have been by the committee they've they've followed directions right and I just even if they get blown out we shouldn't be willing to tear down the system.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: just because we got two more blowouts in the first round.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is just what happens in college football sometimes.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's just a bit of a talent mismatch.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: But by the way, remember the eight, nine seed game last year?
- 16:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, good play to that.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: I was a high thing, I know how to play it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, huge legacy brands, and it was a blowout game.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_05]: So it happens.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_05]: It just happens.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_05]: That game was on track to be 100 than nothing at one point.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it was an absolute massacre.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_05]: So, yes, good teams can get blown out to or big name teams.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and also, exactly, blown out.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_05]: All right, boys, let's get to the games themselves.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_05]: Friday night, we got Alabama at Oklahoma.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_05]: Palace on the prairie, Brian, I believe you will be there, correct?
- 17:01[SPEAKER_05]: Well, there we go.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_05]: All right, as you're looking at this, what is the key to victory in the game?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm much, I'm much more excited about the prospect of norming not being like 20 degrees like it was in South Bend last year.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: It will be windy.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that is going to impact the quarterback, which I think is the big one.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you go back to that first meeting, which I was also at, that the turnover from Ty Simpson, that was a big thing.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think, obviously, you've seen when John material is not turning the ball over, Oklahoma has a shot.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to be key, which quarterback can actually hang on to the ball against two defenses that love.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: to tee off against them.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think this kind of a first to 24 points kind of wins type of game.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think if you've seen Oklahoma historically this season, that's kind of been a key number for them.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Only Tennessee was able to hit that and still end up losing the game, which they had to hit late.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's going to be key.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Can you get to 24 points?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's four scores.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then really, you know, what running game is going to be at least present to present some sort of a threat.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, neither of these teams run the ball all that well.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, Jam Miller's back for Alabama will see if that provides any kind of a boost for them on the ground.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you at least have a threat of a run game toward it's not just those defensive ends up for both sides just tean off and rush in the passer.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think that will be key for at least some semblance of some sustainable offense in this game.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: If you looked at the stats and Brian, you were there.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_03]: After that game, I bet you when you looked at that stat book and you saw the Bama dominated just about every category.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_03]: You would have thought Bama won that game by 20 points.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_03]: And instead speaking to your 24 point number, the final score was 2321.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned the running game.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: So I really think this game hinges
- 18:51[SPEAKER_03]: plays the best.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's offensive line has been
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, mediocre to average, to slightly above average at time.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_03]: Bamas running game, as you mentioned, hasn't been very good either.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: So if Bamas' offensive line, they had problems with communication the last time they played OU.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: If they can clean that up, that's a huge deal.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: If they can get the running game going a little bit, that's a huge deal.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: And if they can protect Tys Simpson.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: So the key to me is how does Bamas' offensive line
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: respond this time on the road.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I tell you what, I'm not sure anybody's getting to 24 runs, you know, I think might be first team to 17 when just because they're just not going to be many scores.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_05]: You guys pointed out most of the key facets there.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_05]: The other things I would bring up,
- 19:42[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, clove of special teams are outstanding.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they have a great kicker, a great punner.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_05]: They blocked a kick, a key kick in that game against Alabama the first time.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_05]: So in a tight game, small margins, that could be a factor as well.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_05]: And then, you know, not to state the obvious, but which quarterback can make some big plays.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_05]: So this is gonna be, you hit a couple of big plays.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_05]: That might be enough here.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_05]: John Matier has had times when he's looked great.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_05]: Ty Simpson's had times when he has looked great, and then they both have really struggled as well.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_05]: So who can conjure up a little bit of magic?
- 20:15[SPEAKER_05]: Who can play with poise?
- 20:17[SPEAKER_05]: While you're getting rushed, because both teams will rush and put a lot of pressure on him.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_05]: So those are my things, their special teams in quarterback there.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_05]: Saturday, Miami, Texas, say name.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_05]: You're going to be at that one, too, right, Brian?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm attempting to along with a few other media members.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if we can make it.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a little tight turnaround for a night game in Norman to that 11 a.m. kickoff in college.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this is obviously the game of the first round.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the most intriguing game
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: for sure, and you know, Gene to your point, like which offensive line is really going to come through here because you're going to need it against some of the past pressures involved in this game.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one, I think all the scouts are going to.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a lot of pressure on both quarterbacks.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, who can take care of the ball?
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think we saw some progress in the second half the season from Carson Beck balancing back from those turnover field games that Miami did end up losing in October.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Aggies though, I mean, there's, there's a lot of pressure on
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: home game, you know, just the way they ended that last, uh, last outing against Texas, you know, they're going to be motivated for coming into this one.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, they haven't played all that well, uh, the last day month of the season, you know, that they scraped by had that incredible comeback against South Carolina, which, you know, at that first half of counts as well in terms of, uh, they're overall play this this season.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be a fascinating matchup and it is going to come down to which which offensive line can at least slow down the opposing pass rush because I don't think either of these quarterbacks when their clock gets sped up and they're forced to kind of make those quick decisions.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it can get a little anti.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: It can lead to some big plays, no doubt about it, but if that's a more consistent thing, that tends to be when turnovers happen and that's also
- 22:03[SPEAKER_05]: Well, Gina, I want you to know it's already been a big fall in college station.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_05]: They're their volleyball team is in the final four.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, upset undefeated Nebraska to get there.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_05]: They're playing Thursday night.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_05]: We're taping this Thursday morning.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_05]: But perhaps even bigger.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_05]: Anne M. did once again win the Metanational Meet Judging Contest.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_05]: always a big thing in the state of Texas.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_05]: They like their meat down there.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_05]: They judge their meat extremely well.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_05]: So, kudos to the Aggies on that.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_05]: Can the football team live up to the meat judging team, Gene?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: What did I do when I saw this rundown?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_03]: I immediately called you.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_03]: I thought this was a joke.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_03]: National championship meet judging.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what?
- 22:52[SPEAKER_03]: What's next?
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: National championship and parallel parking.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_03]: Let's do that.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: But I actually looked it up, they assess and judge carcasses of lamb, pork, and beef.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_03]: And they also look at cuts of all these meats too.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: I need to take them.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: to the next Chicago Steakhouse I go to, I know this game has a little bit of a bigger spread than the OU Bama game, but it feels like a pick-up game here also.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's what three and a half, and I think that's just a product of the game being played in a Aggie land, but
- 23:36[SPEAKER_03]: Everything the Brian said I'm I'm with and I think this is this is one of the really cool games of the week I mean of the playoffs to me because yes, Bama, oh you Slugfest we don't really know what we're gonna get offensively, but I think we have a pretty decent idea We'll see actual offense.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: We think
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: in this game.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: And so which quarterback can actually, you know, produce this time to both great quarterbacks, which one can produce against those defenses?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_05]: When you go to that Chicago, stay cast.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_05]: You say,
- 24:16[SPEAKER_05]: And I hope you have a Texas A&M meet judging graduate on your staff.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I need.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go on that one.
- 24:37[UNKNOWN]: I want
- 24:38[SPEAKER_05]: Um, what interests me in that game, I want to see, I think, to the great playmaking wide receivers, Casey Concepcion for Texas A&M and Malachi Tony for Miami, which one of those guys can maybe get loose, make a couple of big plays here.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_05]: Concepcion also a dangerous punt returner.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_05]: which team may use them in running game, you know, jet sweep for versus that sort of thing.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_05]: So that game I am I'm super fired up for that one.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_05]: If you're Texas A&M you have been waiting for the chance to be big time for a long time and here's your opportunity.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_05]: All right, two-lane Ole Miss, I am attending this game.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_05]: Um, protecting us and going to that game also.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_05]: He's slacking.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_05]: He's only going to do in less than 24 hours.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: I got two games the next two rounds, by the way.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_05]: Um, anyway, now that like the grove is going to be just completely insane, the weather's going to be great, unlike the frozen tundra that basically enveloped almost all of the playoff in the first round last year, supposed to be 64 and sunny in Oxford on Saturday.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_05]: So I just, I am fired up for this and to see how fired up Ole Miss is.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_05]: But two lines should be as well.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_05]: My question, I guess, which,
- 25:58[SPEAKER_05]: Which coaching staff has done the best job keeping their team kind of on the task at hand while dealing with all of the two multi-round them because we know John summer all obviously is going to Florida
- 26:11[SPEAKER_05]: trying to handle two jobs at the same time is really difficult, especially when they're both head coaching jobs.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_05]: We've seen some guys, you know, wear two hats before like at Kirby Smart.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_05]: But one is a defensive coordinator in Alabama and he's the head coach in Georgia.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_05]: That's not the same as being the head coach at both places.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_05]: So a little added degree of difficulty, I think, or
- 26:31[SPEAKER_05]: Summer all and for two laying there.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_05]: The good news is his replacement was already on staff will haul.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_05]: They're just promoting him.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_05]: So that kind of keeps the continuity going kind of like Pete Golding with Ole Miss there.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_05]: People at two lanes seem pretty confident that their team's going to show up in a better way than they did the last time.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see about that.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_05]: But Jake Reds laugh is one of those quarterbacks.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_05]: He can be a wildcard.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_05]: He can make some bad plays, but then he can make some big plays too.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_05]: Generally speaking, the more that's on the line, the better he does.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_05]: So I am fired up to be there for that one.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_05]: You guys, any thoughts on that game?
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very curious to see what the Green Wave has stored up because I think that first meeting obviously Jake Ritzleff had just gotten there, late in the summer, you know, he's still kind of easing in to things when playing in a big SEC environment there and the first one, they won't be scared.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think going into this environment, they've been there before, they understand what what they're facing, even though things might be amped up just a little bit more than they were,
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: in that first meeting, given how long the fans are going to be tailgating for this one, they're at the grove, they will be well lubricated for that one as well.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it, I think two of my understands the assignment in this one.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to come down to essentially, can they finish off drives?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: That was a problem in the first one that they could not finish off drives when they got past the 40.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: That was kind of led to the, I think the lopside is score in the first one and then turn over.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's going to be key really in all these first-round games.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Man is in this environment with this team you cannot be giving almost extra possessions that that's just a doomsday scenario for for the green wave and if they do that I think they have I don't think they have necessarily shot to to pull the full upset But I think they can keep this thing close enough and then if you know what if it is the second half
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: things are a little bit close.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's when when the opposing team can get tight and I think of all the G16s out there to lane with what they have offensive and defensive lines they're going to be able to be a little bit more competitive than I think people are thinking especially after seeing that first score involving these two teams.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: I read one of the stories that said it's a $74 million economic impact to Oxford with this game.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: So I know you guys mentioned this earlier, the pressure on Ole Miss, and I would argue that
- 29:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're going to be more free.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're going to be the reception that they get when they run out onto that field is going to be thunderous.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: Pete Golding is going to have hearing loss.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_03]: They are going to cheer that guy and that team like they've never done before.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_03]: Anything that's not lane-kiff and they are going to cheer.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: And the fact that Charlie Watch Jr. is back as is a play collar for this game.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: The fact that they've had some time now to sort of process some of this.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: Look, there's no getting around it.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's a bizarre game for all sorts of reasons, including the Tulane side, too, with the coaching change.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: So I think if unless Tulane is able to handle the early parts of that game, when Ole Miss is going to be absolutely sky high.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think this could be another 35 point loss for them.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_03]: But I would argue that Ole Miss is gonna play with a freedom that maybe they haven't had recently and they don't have to deal with the Lane Kiffin thing.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_03]: They're just gonna be their playing hard, playing together, playing for their new guy, playing for the old guy, Charlie Wise Jr. and they're playing at home in front of a crowd that is gonna give them one of the great bear hugs.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_05]: It's good point.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, they will.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_05]: The crowd will love them to pieces to start with.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_05]: If it keeps going well, they'll continue to.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see if things don't go right.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_05]: Am I a change?
- 30:47[SPEAKER_05]: Well, they'll just start hating Lane, kiff and more in absent.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: One in doubt.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we see some effigies of Lane out on the Grove beforehand.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: Pat that might be your initial assignment is.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_05]: yeah it's entirely possible i think there will be some scene at this game uh... the last game of the fort james madison at origen
- 31:11[SPEAKER_05]: This to me is more about what Oregon needs to show.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_05]: I'd be important for James Madison to show up and be competitive.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_05]: I think they can be.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_05]: I think defensively they're pretty good.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_05]: Offensively we'll see about the line and we'll see if Alonza Barnett, the quarterback, he goes up and down.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_05]: He can have some great games and then he can struggle.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_05]: So, Orient to me, they need to take care of business and this should be
- 31:33[SPEAKER_05]: like jump on them, get after them quickly.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_05]: Oregon's defense is underrated.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_05]: It's very good, you know, the program DNA has always kind of been flash on offense, but this defense is excellent.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_05]: Dan Landing is a defensive guy.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_05]: They are one of the best past defenses in the country.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_05]: 13 interceptions on the season and they had the best pacificency defense rating in the big 10.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_05]: So they get a couple picks early and they start getting things rolling and then I think Oregon can can start to think ahead a little bit towards what should be a great quarter final game with Texas Tech.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_05]: You all any thoughts there?
- 32:15[SPEAKER_03]: Impose your will.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_03]: Be physical.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: get out of the game without any serious injury, and take some momentum into that Texas tech game.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty simple.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Jamie is going to be a huge factor in this, but if that was my checklist, that would be it if I'm damn landing.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking to see how healthy our organs wide receivers, you know, they might only be down, you know, a lot of their big time players are listed as questionable on the available to report.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: They may only have three healthy guys at wide receiver and we all know hamstring, something happens, you know, you get knocked out of a play, I'm going to be very curious to see how the offense, especially with Willstein going off to Kentucky, maybe a little bit distracted how they're going to handle that in game.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't anticipate, you know, James Madison making this a close game in the fourth quarter, but
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, to your health, you know, is Dante more on the same page with some of those guys that maybe he hasn't been throwing to quite as often throughout the season.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: So and can they get any of those guys healthy back, you know, I think that's that's going to be going to be a big questions, not only over this game, but over the next round, can they at least get, you know, Gary Brian Jr. a few reps in there and get him a few.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: a few passes throw his way so he's comfortable with games being going into that Texas tech game should they advance I think that's going to be key and then you know like you said you know I mean being healthy especially on the offensive line I think that's going to be key for for ordering because we know what's awaiting them in that next game.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_05]: All right guys producer Kent insists on putting the standings of the winners and stake dinners race in the in the rundown I yeah I don't know why how you doing
- 33:53[SPEAKER_05]: you know.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_05]: It's almost Christmas.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_05]: Let's try to be charitable.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_05]: Brian now 41 and 36.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_05]: Geno picked up the win on.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_05]: Are you really, really wanted us to the point out that he did have Army in the Army Navy game.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_05]: And so he's up to 38 and 40, which does include the bear pick.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_05]: And I am in a Rears to when a half games behind Jean.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_03]: Rears.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_05]: That's become my default position.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_05]: So let's pick these games.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_05]: We can go quick through these.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_05]: We don't have to belabor them because we just did belabor them.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_05]: So let's just make some picks here.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_05]: We'll start with the Friday night game Alabama giving one and a half in Norman Brian, which way you're going.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take the tide minus one and a half reluctantly because I think this is very much as the line indicates a coin flip game.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, you know, just seeing that first game, I mean, that was like one of the lowest way in expectancies of any game in the country this season.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: For what Oklahoma did, they only had two hundred and twelve yards of offense.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: They got some turnovers in timely manner.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: to do that again and repeat that against a very motivated crimson tide team and i think that's going to be a tall task and and we know how big uh... or good calender bore is in big game so give me the tide
- 35:12[SPEAKER_03]: three turnovers by Bama the last time I don't think that happens again and I saw a step by ESPN that said Bama hasn't lost to the same opponent in the same season twice since 1893 so I'm going to go with history here and with the idea that Bama can avoid those killer turnovers again.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_05]: Now you've got me looking up the the 1893 football team.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_05]: I'm doing it here.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_05]: I've got to find out who who beat who beat the tired twice.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my, they lost four.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_05]: They were Owen four and they were beaten twice by Birmingham Athletic Club.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_03]: that would have been my guess.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, of course, you know, powerhouse back then October 13th they lost four to zero.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_05]: And then in the big rematch, November 4th, that a lot of tape to go through to get ready.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_05]: They were closer.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_05]: The only lost 10 to eight.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_05]: And then also lost a soawney and Auburn.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_05]: That's a tough season for the tide.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_05]: I bet you use the coach.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_05]: Pat, I
- 36:17[SPEAKER_03]: I threw you a softball there.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_03]: I thought for sure you would take it.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_03]: I was waiting for the, well, what was it like to cover that game, Gina.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, man.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_05]: I, yeah, I'm just head of chance there.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_05]: I'm taking Alabama in this one.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_05]: You guys covered the reasons.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_05]: I think Bama gets revenge here.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_05]: So no no Birmingham athletic club repeat in this one.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_05]: All right, my amy getting three and a half at Texas A&M, Gene, where are you going?
- 36:46[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going with the Aggies and I just think the power of the home field and Mike Elco and his sort of wizardry on third down defensive calls.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_03]: My amy is going to be very tough, but I think A&M has a lot of
- 37:03[SPEAKER_03]: their offense creates a lot of challenges and problems too.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_03]: And I guess I just trust Elco a little more than I trust Mario Christmas.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: I also trust Mike Elco over Mario Crystal Ball, but I will take the hurt games getting three and a half and I know, no, no, obviously, reason why, I mean, I think these are two really evenly matched teams, you know, fascinating to see the battle in the trenches and these two quarterbacks go and add it like we mentioned, but I don't know if I can just necessarily, you know, truly trust Texas A&M in general, especially after seeing them up close in person in that Texas game and the way they just kind of got overwhelmed by the moment
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they come out motivated, and they just kind of make the place that they need to, but I will lean my amy, especially after the time off that they've had to prepare for this game.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it makes a difference down there in Calfield.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going with hurricanes there as well.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_05]: I think that I think they're a more talented team.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_05]: They're both good teams.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_05]: But I think they're more talented.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_05]: They had their rough spot in the middle of the season.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_05]: I don't like the way the Aggies finish the year.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_05]: I do like the way the hurricanes finish the year.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm rolling with the Cains.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_05]: Alright, two lane plus 17 and a half at Mississippi.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_05]: Pretty big number, but it's also only half of what the number was the first time.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to take the rebels here.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_05]: If this does is Brian pointed out, if this is a close game going into the second half, there will be a lot of dread and angst in the stadium.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_05]: I think Trinidad Chambliss and the offense get going early and put up some points and they win relatively comfortably here.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm going with the rebels giving the 17 and a half.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with you.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Unless Retslop has a game of his life, I think Ole Miss covers comfortably.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think this could turn into quite the shoot out, you know, between these two teams.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like I saw Ole Miss is defense up close in person in that Georgia game and they allowed the Bulldogs to march up and down the field on them.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't necessarily think Tulane has that kind of same offense, but I think they can put up enough points and maybe it's through the back door, but I think they do end up covering the 17 and a half.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think this will be a pretty fun game.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: All things considered, given all the story lines and given the two teams themselves evolved.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_05]: All right, and James Madison, getting 21 at Oregon, Brian.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think?
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: Black, Black, give me the ducks.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: Jim used far this road trip was 1421 miles.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: Now they're going to double it.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to go to one of toughest stadiums, odds, and they're going against a really physical team.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think Jim used defense.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: We'll hang in there for a little while.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: And then I think the ducks just were him down.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_03]: So I'll take Oregon also.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_05]: fine I'm rolling with the dooks give me the twenty one it was twenty one and a half I like that better but I'll take the twenty one I think the dooks will be able to hang in there Take some punches and at least cover and that could be a backdoor situation especially if Oregon is trying Is ahead comfortably in the fourth quarter and trying to rest some guys for the next round maybe jam You get a TD or two that that makes it as covering the spread there now we're gonna add one other game
- 40:20[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, the brawl of the wild SCS semi-finals Montana at Montana State.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, you know, you've you've been to this game, right?
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: I've been yes, I've been there for that game college game data went there one time.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_03]: And because of the time change, we were out there on the set really early in the morning.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_03]: And was about 400 degrees below zero as I recall.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: and I could not feel anything below my knees, but it is a really cool atmosphere, a really cool place, and it's one of the great great games.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_03]: They call it their Super Bowl, and now they're going to play it twice in the same year.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, they played regular season and Montana State won a close one.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_05]: I went to Big Sky Media Day and did a story on that and talk to the people.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_05]: This was the game everyone talked about when these two play each other and now to get to play for the right to go to the national championship is awesome.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm,
- 41:23[SPEAKER_05]: I am hopeful that turns out to be as good as everybody's expecting.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_05]: Tickets are like $700 for this game.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_05]: It's the highest priced playoff ticket, partly because the stadium's not very big.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_05]: And there was some complaining because they weren't bringing in added bleachers.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_05]: So this is a big game, big scene, big sky country.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_05]: Montana is getting 4G and what do you think?
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take my Tana in the four, they will argue that a tip pass went for a pick six and a miss field goals, what cost them, and yeah, it did.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it will still be a close game.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: Only 22,000 is what that's Bobcat Stadium holds by the way, Pat, and that's only if they am losing their dope buckle.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_03]: and standing room tickets are going for $450.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: So it's gonna be a electric atmosphere, but I'll take Montana and I'll take the points.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: I will do the same and you know, the SES playoffs, man, I just love watching them this time of year.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: We typically have some crazy finishes, some great, this game will be on ABC, you know, for a lot of those teams that, you know, if the actual college football playoff games are a bit of a blowout, this could be worth tuning in for on Saturday as well.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Not only atmosphere, but I just think that the run game for Montana ends up coming through in this one, and the revenge factor thrown this in there, and how cool will it be if Villanova wins.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: We get the Pope's team versus the big sky for the FCS title game in come January.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited for this one and give me Montana in the four and Pat Brian will be covering this game also.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_05]: I wish I wish.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, I might show up at the FCS Championship game.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_05]: It's in Nashville, not far from me.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, very cool.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'm going to count a program you guys and take Montana State.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_05]: I have no insight other than the fact that I need to make up ground on you all.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_05]: I will say this.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_05]: FCS plays home games all the way through the semi-finals.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_05]: And we talked about the $74 million economic impact in Oxford.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_05]: You don't think Athens would like 74 million or whatever would be if they had a home game quarter final.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_05]: Columbus Ohio Bloomington, Indiana, Lubbock, Texas.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_05]: I would love to see quarter finals on campuses too.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_03]: See, maybe you'll get your wish.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_05]: All right, guys, let's, we got to talk about the Michigan situation as I alluded to earlier.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_05]: That blew up later last Thursday.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_05]: story got pretty dark thereafter when he was arrested charged with felony home invasion to misdemeanors allegedly threatened to kill himself after breaking into the staffer's home with whom he had a relationship.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_05]: Terrible situation for Moore's family.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_05]: I feel very badly for them.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's a bad look for the university in the athletic department which is now under its own external review to find out
- 44:30[SPEAKER_05]: what what they knew when they knew it, how they reacted to it.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_05]: And this is really the latest and a long line of problems in Michigan athletics in particularly in football.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_05]: They won the National Championship in 2023, but there has been a lot of stuff going on there under Jim Harbaugh.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_05]: and now clearly undershirt own more.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_05]: Gino, we'll see whether Ward Manu will even survive.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_05]: See, I thought a director.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_05]: How big is the stain on Michigan?
- 44:56[SPEAKER_05]: And out of the Wolverines, go about a search, and who should they hire?
- 45:00[SPEAKER_05]: A lot there, sorry.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: That's OK, so there's three questions.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: How big of a stain?
- 45:06[SPEAKER_03]: This is like spilling spaghetti sauce and then grape juice on a white dress shirt.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: It's not coming out anytime soon, so it's a huge deal.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_03]: And it makes the little Connor Stallion thing feel like, you know, something that we call laugh at.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_03]: This is serious stuff, and it's really a question now, is this systemic within that program?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what that internal investigation, I hope, can address.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_03]: How do you go about the search?
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they don't have a permanent president right now, but if you're the interim president in your ward manual, and even though your ward manual and you might be hanging on for dear life for your job, I think you go to these candidates, and you said, yeah, we're a bit of a dumpster fire right now.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_03]: but we're also one of the great, great public universities in this country and maybe the world.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: And we're the all-time winningist football program in major college football history.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_03]: And we have resources out the Wazoo.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_03]: And we're gonna come out of this stronger and better because we're gonna acknowledge our failures and we're going to fix them.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: And now we need a guy to lead this program
- 46:30[SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to give you every possible tool to succeed.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: So I think you have to be honest.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think you have to acknowledge your many sins.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: And then I think you have to have a plan to move forward.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: And then who should they hire?
- 46:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if we're going to take Kalin to bore it as word.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: and say he's not going anywhere from Alabama, which I'm still not sure is really the case.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_03]: But if we're going to take him at his word, then I think you're left with Kenny going ham.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_03]: This is in the in the college division of candidates.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_03]: Kenny going ham from Arizona State, Judd Fish,
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: You guys know how I feel about Jeff Monkin and Army, but Michigan would never be that bold.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_03]: And then I'm going to throw PJ Flect from Minnesota in there.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_03]: Those would be my three sort of finalist.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think doing him who still hasn't really absolutely said he's not going anywhere.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think doing to him would be the guy that I would target.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_05]: I have to give you credit.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_05]: I did the interview, no, no, asking multiple questions.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_05]: And you actually answered all of them.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_05]: What a pro.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_05]: I went on a little too long, but that's why we pay you the big dollars.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_05]: Brian, what do you think?
- 47:45[SPEAKER_05]: Who's Michigan getting?
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's a good question because it doesn't seem like the search is advancing a little bit, even though there's almost some cognitive dissonance given everything else going on above, and in the administration with this review, I don't think anybody has a good time frame in terms of what that's going to take in terms of, hey, you might get hired by an AD that's going to get fired here in a couple of weeks.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: So like that's something that a lot of candidates are probably going to overlook just because you know what proof of concept is there for Michigan.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: They have
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: There is a ton of money there in that program with the alums there like you know this is not going to be You're walking into a situation and you're going to have one arm tied behind you right it really could be one of those type of power vacuums that some of these head coaches are going to look at and say hey you know it I can be the big man on campus I can kind of take things over running one my ship without as much interference as I would normally have You know moving forward now we'll see what in terms of oversight of the program what might end up changing
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: given all of the allegations around Jerome Warren, that to me is, you know, stepping back, you know, the picture of him in that jail cell while he's being arranged.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: That was, you know, shocking, you know, just that that's going to be an image that is going to stay with a lot of people for a lot of, you know, for a long time.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Michigan can no longer claim any kind of high ground any more as a program.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think we, we, we, we, we, we've, we've talked about the Michigan men and
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: all the mythology, you know, surrounding, you know, leading in this program, but it has been an issue there in Ann Orber for the last couple of years, just a drip drip drip drip of scandals.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, ultimately that will catch up with you a little bit.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see who ends up wanting to jump into this game, you know, Jeanne, you mentioned Jad Fish as a possible option, a former Michigan assistant.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, at least it knows the lay of the land a little bit, but it has done a good job there at Arizona and Washington, certainly building those two programs
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he has not really gotten one of those kind of marquee jobs with a big-time roster.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I would be kind of curious to see what he would be able to do with this.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: Can he be dealing him would be a home run higher?
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, will he actually want to leave Arizona State, especially after seeing, you know, his quarterback that he developed hit into the portal.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: Seems a lot of his talented offensive defense of Lyman leaves.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that that's going to be a big question hanging over this in terms of whoever they can get.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: to take this job, but it's going to be very interesting because this is, this is the winning us program in college football.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a lot of attention on what Michigan does, no matter what moving forward.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's a lot riding on this decision in Ann Arbor.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if we thought the Penn State coaching search was going to get a lot of coaches some raises, Michigan might come in a close second given the number of names that we've we've been mentioned in this one and worst case, you know, you can leverage this for some roster of support moving forward for a lot of those coaches out there.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: There might be maybe a little hesitant about the situation overall.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_05]: To me, this is like how shopping and you've got a, a dilapidated house, but it has quote unquote good bones, right?
- 50:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_05]: You can fix this one up and it was not going to take forever to fix it up.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_05]: So the money is going to be there.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_05]: Larry Ellison's fourth wife will pay you pay for an elite quarterback of price under which it leave You're going to be okay.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_05]: I think they will not struggle to have candidates for this job Even with the late leadership chaos and I would expect to change it athletic director as well So if you if you're Michigan and you believe jet fish is the guy then you go get jet fish and I think you would do it I think he wanted Florida as matter of fact
- 51:23[SPEAKER_05]: Otherwise, I would not be surprised if there's some NFL candidates that emerge as some other people there.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not concerned about Michigan's ability to get a good coach even with the amount of chaos and and reputational hit there.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_03]: But, Pat, let me ask you a question though, to go to both of you.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: If they want a jet fish,
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: When they have already offered him the job, if they wanted Kenny doing him, when they have already offered him the job, if they wanted PJ Fleck, when they have already offered him the job, there's no impediment for them to make those offers right now.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, look, I went to a land-grant institution, so maybe I'm not thinking this through, but it seems to me they're waiting on somebody else, and if they haven't already done this.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, and it could be, look, I'm with you, I'm not convinced the deport to bore things totally over.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_05]: I thought that he very reluctantly was pushed into saying, yes, I will be the coach at Alabama next year.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_05]: And coaches when it came to the Alabama job of said things and then done the other before, next haven.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_05]: But, uh,
- 52:33[SPEAKER_05]: I agree with one exception, Jean, that the, I think there's possibility that work manuals hands are literally tied, but tied enough right now that he can't offer a job.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, fair enough, fair enough, like who is fair enough?
- 52:46[SPEAKER_05]: Who is doing the hiring?
- 52:48[SPEAKER_05]: I, I think that there might just be the case.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_05]: And they're, you know, they don't, I don't think they want to rush another coaching while this, you know, just mushroom cloud has been over the, uh, the program as well.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, going to be a lot to watch this weekend and coming out of it, especially if Alabama loses, then Caitlyn to more front and center, just say, yes, I'm back.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_05]: No, I'm not one of the other.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_03]: Well, as always, I saw a bit of poetry, the interim coach at a news conference recently said they hope to have somebody hired by the end of the month for what that's worth.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they'll ruin our holidays with breaking news.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_05]: It's not the first time.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_05]: Sorry to think like a sports writer.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_05]: All right, another topic here guys, Eli Drinkwitz, Missouri coach had a lot to say out of press conference this week.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_05]: Some thoughts just on the big picture state of the game.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_05]: Producer Kent, can you play an audio clip from that please?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: TV or ship?
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: maybe in an all-time high and that's awesome and gambling on sports may be in an all-time high and that's great.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: I got no problem with that.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_02]: But what about the well-being of the student athlete?
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: What about graduation rates?
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: What about tax implications?
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: What about handling handling and understanding financial literacy?
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: What does their gut life look like after five years of college athletics?
- 54:14[SPEAKER_02]: Is it going to be better because they participated in college athletics or could they be
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: you know that a lot of us got into college athletics because we wanted to help me young men grow and develop and I think we're still doing that mission but it's getting really hard because you used to talk about you know coach saving used to talk about all the time creating value for yourself and when he talked about it he wasn't just talking about value for the NFL he's talking about creating value for yourself with a college degree.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_02]: and we've lost that aspect of it.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: And these guys are going to create tremendous value for themselves playing the M football.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_02]: And that's awesome.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_02]: And we love that these guys are getting paid.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_02]: I love that last week, these guys with their own money went out and bought gifts for a coyote hill.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_02]: But my job also is to look at them in three or four years down the road.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: And how many of them are in a better position because they've played football, it's they've transferred four times.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_05]: All right, it's an interesting thoughts there.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_05]: He also said he thinks the system is, quote, sick and that there is no such thing as tampering because nobody's been punished, except we've worked around the system instead of creating a system.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_05]: Genome, you think drink is speaking the truth.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_05]: There's he just complaining because people are trying to rate his roster.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if I'd used the word, sick, but I do think college football has a temperature.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: the TV ratings are high and because the stadiums are full, we think everything's okay.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_03]: I've seen that a thousand times from folks saying, what problems have you seen the TV ratings?
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: Have you seen the attendance?
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're all really good, but that doesn't mean that below the surface.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_03]: There aren't some problems that long-term really could kneecap this sport.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm totally with drink wits on this idea of does it diploma even matter anymore?
- 56:17[SPEAKER_03]: Is that even part of the factor?
- 56:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not naive enough to think that
- 56:21[SPEAKER_03]: ten years ago, what was it a factor also?
- 56:24[SPEAKER_03]: But I do think he makes some good points and there is tampering going on constantly.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think he's complaining, I think every coach is probably complaining about that.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_03]: So I do think there are some illnesses, some warning signs,
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: That is what the money is for, you know, I mean, you know, and really the speed of change.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think has really impacted everybody's thoughts on this, you know, ratings are at all time high, you know what, players, you know, you mentioned the well-being of players.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now a lot of times they're coming out of school with enough money to either buy a house or already have bought a house and maybe even paid most of that off, probably having a degree or at least having the opportunity to go get a degree.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: So like the players themselves have never been better off.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they are actually working the system to their advantage and not the other way around which was the case for decades upon decades and the speed of change and not having really any kind of stable kind of waypoint to kind of guide them that they've had years and years and years and years These coaches were coming up in the game, you know, they knew when all right when February all right here was signing day.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: We know you can count on a guy if you spend a number of hours recruiting him that he would at least be there, you know, for two or three years.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, having to adjust to those new realities, you know, as I think really taking these coaches by surprise, but guess what, you know, dealing with all these headaches, dealing with re-recruiting your roster, dealing with all the things that are changing in the sport, that is what the money is for.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: And Eli drink what's guess what?
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's getting a big new contract, and, you know, some raises, some additional resources there at the program, you know,
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: as a result of all that, and the result of the good that he's done, and I don't know if it's necessarily the system is sick, but it is a new system.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's going through some growing pains, and everything will come out the other side, and based on some of those ratings, some of the interest levels in the sport.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is the second most popular sport in the country right now, and that's a good position to be in, especially given that there is a lot more growth to come, especially at the high end of a college football moving forward.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I see both sides of this, which sorry, that's probably not good podcasting to not just have a strike and stand on this, but I, the one point Eli makes about to me the constant transferring is detrimental that is not a good thing that there is no way that helps your academic standing and most of these guys do still need a college education and a degree.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_05]: to Brian's point absolutely of many of them are coming out of college with more money than they've ever had uh... and that was all you know that the the constant lament was you know where we're taking kids who may be from a poor background we come in all we all they get as a scholarship and then they're they're back out and they don't have anything hey there's guys now that yeah they can afford a house they can afford a car
- 59:25[SPEAKER_05]: they you know they've got a standard of living possibility that that didn't exist until the last three or four five years so I agree that is that's a huge advantage.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_05]: But I do I I think the worst thing that's happened has been the court ruling that struck down any sort of a
- 59:48[SPEAKER_05]: penalty time for for multiple transfers and they met the ability to be immediately eligible and go from school to school to school every single year.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_05]: That doesn't help.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_05]: That does not.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_05]: I fail to see any situations in which going to four schools and four years is beneficial for anybody.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_05]: So that's where I'm with him and I do still think there should be an educational component to this.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_05]: It is still college football.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_05]: So.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_05]: Some good food for thought from coach drink or liquid for thought, coach drink, some bad food for thought from Joel Clatt.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_05]: Here we go, appearing with our friends from next round live out of Birmingham.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_05]: uh... this week and came up with and i i like jole i i covered jole is a senior in college at colorado we both played for gary burn at we both love gary burn at so we i i nothing against him but i thought this was the most ludicrous thing i have ever heard uh... he he took a flamethrower to the Cinderella concept not just in football but in basketball
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_05]: He did acknowledge it was the hottest of all takes.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_05]: He said the incidentally basketball tournament is a joke and it sucks for the fans.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_05]: Kent, I think we have some sound on this as well.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_04]: The NCAA basketball tournament is a joke.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_04]: It's the it's the dumbest tournament and the least fair tournament in all of sports we go and we put we put teams at odd times on neutral sites in a one game affair like that doesn't crown or true champion.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_04]: We're not we're not doing anything that tells us who's the best team over the course of the entire season.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_04]: That's a go.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_05]: that's incredible.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_05]: We take teams and we put them on a neutral site in a one-game situation, like maybe the Rose Bowl and the festival and the cotton bowl and the sugar bowl that are part of the college football playoff, but it's bad and basketball.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_05]: Also, it sucks for the fans, really, which fans because I didn't see a bunch of fans sitting there when Oakland was beating Kentucky, saying, this is terrible.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_05]: This is no fun at all.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, this is awful.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_05]: Who wanted to see fairly Dickinson beat Purdue?
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_05]: No, nobody enjoyed that.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_05]: UNBC, beating Virginia, but we're going to the final four.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_05]: I get this concept way that the NCAA
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_05]: I've not heard this before.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_05]: Tell me if I'm wrong, guys.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_05]: Tell me if the NCAA tournament is bad because I kind of thought people liked it.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, that's probably the one true thing that everybody can agree on in college sports is how much they love the insane tournament, I love filling out the brackets, I love the Cinderella, Joel, and I mean, he's actually already walking this back.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just saw he said it was a bad take.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was a terrible take just this morning.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_01]: So like he he understands the blowback and and I do like Joel worked with him, obviously it Fox sports previously, but like the the one thing if you're going to attack it maybe make it.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: Something other than the thing that everybody seems to agree upon every those couple of weeks in March everybody is all in on the NCAA tournament They love the fact that Kentucky can go down to Oakland.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_01]: They love those upsets like that.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_01]: That is the one thing that Literally anybody other than that fan base that is suffering through those those games on on the losing end
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's all in on that and you know what that that's the reason why you know CBS and Turner and all the other TV networks They they want to see those Cinderella upsets in the first couple rounds and then get to some of the bigger name brands Certainly as you advance, but
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: everybody loves those everybody everybody is on their phones now that they're tuning in they're finding ways to watch those games as soon as there's a whiff of the one of those upset alerts come tournament time and that's that's a reason why everybody understands it it's the best time of the year for a sports fan is that those those March tournament runs by a lot of those Cinderella so Joel's way off base I think he's come around to understanding that moving forward and maybe he'll limit the hot takes there for the NCAA tournament.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_03]: Can we get a wellness check on 40s in his blood pressure right now?
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_05]: I could go on, but I won't.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_03]: Well, this would be my point to Joel and I admire his work too.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think he does a great job as an analyst on those games for Fox.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_03]: But when it comes to Cinderella's, Joel clad has had a front row seat at one of the great Cinderella stories in college football for the last two years.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_03]: is called Indiana.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_03]: And I haven't heard him complain about that Cinderella at all.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_03]: And now, that Cinderella is ranked number one, and it's one of the great, great stories in the history of college football.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_03]: So sometimes you save things, and as the words are leaving your mouth, you want to try to push them back in,
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_03]: and so it's good that Joel's recognizing that perhaps that wasn't the greatest take of all time and we've all done it.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, but this was spectacularly wrong in its and its width and breath.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_03]: And so I hope you understand, I would I would encourage Joel to go to an actual NCAA tournament and tell me that watching some of those Cinderella teams scoring their upsets isn't fun to watch.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_05]: There we go.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_05]: To your point, yes, the more you talk, the more chances you have to say something dumb.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_05]: We've all done it.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_05]: We've done it on this podcast, I believe, maybe not me that you guys have.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I have probably Brian, mostly.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_03]: Fair, fair.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_05]: All right, last thing, and then we got to get out of here.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_05]: The most annoying sentence of the month this time of year every year.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_05]: Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_05]: I hate it when people ask this question.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_05]: You get at the grocery store, you're checking out.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_05]: You see, friends, you go out to a bar.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_05]: If finished, you're Christmas shopping yet.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_05]: There's judgment there, man.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_05]: There is judgment.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_05]: It's hidden, it's veiled, but they, are you as bad as I am?
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_05]: Or, I'm better than you are and you haven't finished yours.
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_05]: there is judgment in the question.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_05]: And personally, that is a deeply personal situation.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_05]: You do your Christmas shopping on your own schedule.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_05]: I like to think I'm like the closer in a baseball game.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_05]: I don't get off my butt till the ninth inning, baby.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_05]: Get me out.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_05]: I'll start warming up about now and then you can put me in the game and I'll throw smoke and I'll get some presence.
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_05]: I may have to
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_05]: Sometimes you're out of the sizes are out and you've got to be getting one of those two small say, hey, you know, we'll return it later.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_05]: But I will not be moved.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_05]: I will not be bullied into early shopping by, have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_05]: But I ask you, men, have you done your Christmas shopping?
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_05]: Are you finished?
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_03]: I still have some work to do, okay?
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm with you.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_03]: I don't like that question either.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_03]: I certainly don't like it by who's ever asking you.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like the church lady.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's asking it of you.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it's unfair.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_03]: We all have our own time tables.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_03]: We still have a week to go, don't we?
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_03]: Go ahead.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just loosening the right arm.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, just plain soft toss in the bullpen.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_03]: Mind your own business.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_01]: I got about half a dozen kids, Christmas presents, right, right off to my left here.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_01]: So the shopping, at least has been done.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's the wrapping part that I always have an issue with.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_01]: That is the thing that I wait till the last minute for.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you want to have some complaints pad, I think that's the better question to have you done your wrapping.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, well, and that's truly, you know what?
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_05]: To me, that's what the Hawaii bowl is for.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_05]: You're not the wide bowl of eight o'clock on Christmas Eve, give me an egg nog.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_05]: I'll get around to doing some wrapping.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a terrible rapper to begin with, but that is, that is the last minute, sure.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_05]: No doubt about it.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, that's it for this show.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_05]: We will have another one before Christmas.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_05]: We're gonna try to pump out early next week.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, but otherwise, you're free and clear for the weekend.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_05]: Playoff Games should be awesome.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_05]: Watch him and joy him.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_05]: We'll be back to talk about him.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_05]: Have a great weekend, everybody.
