- 0:04Hi. I'm Jay felon, and thank you for
- 0:06listening to the slippery slope. So we have talked about what's
- 0:10happening in Pakistan at the moment.
- 0:12There is this devastating flood. I did talk about it.
- 0:15A little last week. What's coming across the news
- 0:17now is that it is climate change, it's definitely climate
- 0:22change causing this flooding to have an impact Stan, and
- 0:25apparently you cannot question it.
- 0:27This is definitely, the reason I'll read some highlights from
- 0:30this article here from the guardian.
- 0:32The headline says, she's changing climate.
- 0:35The reason floods in Pakistan are so devastating so csiro
- 0:41climate scientist, dr. Michael Gross has said the
- 0:44floods bear the Hallmarks of a changing climate.
- 0:49A warmer climate means that you have more intense.
- 0:51Rainfall and Glaciers are more likely to melt and collapse
- 0:55quicker. So dr.
- 0:57Gross, both of those things, come together in this.
- 1:00Juventus in Pakistan. Pakistan has received nearly
- 1:03three times more rain than the 30 year average in the three
- 1:07months, to August this year. Dr. Gross said, careful analysis
- 1:11was needed to fully determine the impact of climate change on
- 1:15the recent flood and to understand how a warming climate
- 1:18could impact rainfall across Seasons.
- 1:21However, he says, no one should doubt the influence of climate
- 1:27change on what has occurred. So that's it.
- 1:29As far as he He's concerned, you should not doubt climate change,
- 1:32that is the factor. That is what's pushing this
- 1:35flooding along. Now, this article finishes off
- 1:38by saying by quoting dr. Dr. Gross, as saying places like
- 1:43Pakistan, a feeling disproportionate impacts of a
- 1:47changing and warming climate and they contributed relatively
- 1:51little to the overall carbon emissions issue he says.
- 1:57So immediately he is blaming Thea Nations and you can see.
- 2:01So, obviously, it's so the Nations that he, that he talks
- 2:04about are being affected the most earlier.
- 2:07In this, in this article, he names a Pakistan, Indonesia,
- 2:11India, and Sri, Lanka, and South Korea, all obviously, Asian
- 2:16Nations. And apparently, I'm good enough.
- 2:18He's been to South Korea, but they have a very industrialized
- 2:22system over there, industrialized Workforce and I
- 2:25would say that they do them and India, definitely do.
- 2:29Contribute to the overall carbon emissions issue.
- 2:33Anyway, but he would rather focus on them being Asian.
- 2:37So climate change is the cause of this flooding and
- 2:40specifically at the moment towards Asian Nations.
- 2:44Now, also in this article, it talks about how in 2010 Pakistan
- 2:49experience devastating floods. So the UN raised two billion
- 2:54dollars to assist the estimated 20 million people impact However
- 3:00it also says that there were lessons that were learned after
- 3:03the 2010 floods. But there were not implemented
- 3:08and this is what professor yasmina said.
- 3:11She also says that there was a clear need for disaster
- 3:14management and capacity building support from other nations to
- 3:18help Pakistan prepare for future disasters.
- 3:21So for one we're told in his article that climate change or
- 3:24the climate crisis that is what's directly causing this
- 3:28flooding in Pakistan. All these floodings or climate
- 3:31change is also affecting Asian Nations because we want to we
- 3:36want to infer as if there's some kind of racial divide when it
- 3:39comes to climate change. But it does also drop the fact
- 3:44that you know, fighting like very similar similar to this one
- 3:48right now. In Pakistan also occurred in
- 3:51Pakistan in 2010 and yet they learned they implemented.
- 3:55None of the lessons that they had learned from the flood.
- 3:59And yet we're still told still told even though there was
- 4:02extreme, flooding 2010 was still told it's all to do with the
- 4:06climate crisis. I'm it's because there and I
- 4:09Asian Nation there a coronation and you know they could have
- 4:13learned the lessons, they didn't but don't don't blame the
- 4:16Pakistani government, don't blame them.
- 4:18Let's still start sending in money.
- 4:20And look, I believe that we should be sending money, Nation
- 4:23should be helping, but we should we need to hold people
- 4:26accountable. We need to hold government's
- 4:27accountable if they Had similar floodings, they learn lessons
- 4:31and they implemented. None of the actions needed to
- 4:35help mitigate the issues that are that they're seeing now with
- 4:39the flooding. Well isn't that shouldn't
- 4:42someone answer to that? Anyway, that's just that's just
- 4:46my thoughts on that. However, I am not convinced that
- 4:50it is climate change. I want to read a couple of other
- 4:52articles, this one, and I did touch on this one last week.
- 4:55The headline to this says, dealing with climate change the
- 4:58psychology. Of geoengineering.
- 5:02So, it says, geoengineering as a means to slow.
- 5:05Climate change is one of the most contentious subjects in the
- 5:08field of climate science along with being heavily debated with
- 5:12the signs within the scientific Community itself.
- 5:15The topic is diversity of among the general public
- 5:19geoengineering. Describes a human attempt to
- 5:21Halt, the effects of climate change using technology.
- 5:25The idea was first introduced during the Cold War but only
- 5:29became popular in 2006 when Nobel prize-winning chemist
- 5:34named Paul, crutzen published a paper advocating for an escape
- 5:39route from global warming by artificially manipulating the
- 5:43atmosphere to counter CO2 emissions.
- 5:46Over the past 15 years. Experiments have been conducted
- 5:50to understand how this type of Technology like artificial
- 5:54clouds, or example could be developed and eventually
- 5:58deployed. Now notice it says eventually
- 6:01deployed Okay, then this is but it's currently illegal to
- 6:05facilitate. Any type of geoengineering at a
- 6:09large industrial scale because no one fully understands what
- 6:14effects it could have on other parts of the environment.
- 6:18Now, I've looked it up and I can't see where Australia says
- 6:22that it's illegal to, to implement geoengineering in
- 6:26Australia, it does say that they tried they they've tried to, I
- 6:30found an article where it says that Australia, sort or seeks to
- 6:34limit ocean geoengineering. That was in 2013, but I can't
- 6:39find anything. That says, it's actually
- 6:41illegal. Definitely not here in
- 6:42Australia, anyway. So this article says, it's
- 6:45currently illegal. It also says that when
- 6:48considering the use of geoengineering people in the
- 6:50general public in climate scientists not alike tend to
- 6:54follow two lines of argument. Some say that geoengineering,
- 6:57the climate is too risky. They argue that the only way to
- 7:01reverse Or at least slow the impact of man-made Global
- 7:04heating is to reverse these to stop releasing greenhouse gases
- 7:09into the atmosphere. More intervention will just
- 7:12cause more problems they say. Others agree that climate change
- 7:17mitigation is the main way, the climate crisis will be addressed
- 7:21but say that relying on emissions reduction alone isn't
- 7:25enough because the political will require to lower emissions
- 7:28to the degree. Necessary just isn't there?
- 7:31They think geoengineering might end up bearing or being our only
- 7:36choice despite being risky. They say that risk posed by not
- 7:41trying geoengineering is greater Then trying it.
- 7:45So they're willing to take the risk because, you know, it's our
- 7:49lives at risk really? So that you know, that's an
- 7:53interesting way of looking at. So geoengineering this clay out.
- 7:56So with that in mind who do you think is definitely definitely
- 8:01doing some do geoengineering within their country I'll give
- 8:06you one. Guess the nation starts with c
- 8:09and ends with a and has the middle letters of hint in the
- 8:15hiín. This headline here says video
- 8:18shows cloud seeding rocket. Narrowly missing pedestrians on
- 8:23busy sidewalk this came out. Just a couple of days ago, says
- 8:26a tool utilized for weather manipulation nearly turned into
- 8:30an instrument of disaster Monday into in China's Sichuan
- 8:35Province. A cloud seeding rocket fell to
- 8:37the ground on a busy. Local walkway, just inches away
- 8:41from pedestrians footage. Captured by China.
- 8:44Central television, CCTV, showed Shoppers walking along when the
- 8:49rocket fitted with a parachute. Dropped dangerously, close to a
- 8:53group of people. So confirmation of the cloud.
- 8:56Seeding operation was made by the you Tri-County
- 9:00meteorological Bureau which stated that there were no
- 9:04reports residents being struck by Rockets.
- 9:08So, cloud seeding is a technique used by China, that allows for
- 9:12greater rainfall Hailstone, prevention, clearing the Skies
- 9:16of clouds as well as to lower air pollution levels.
- 9:21It's scientists have pursued the technique for decades and China.
- 9:26Recently, used cloud seeding to clear clouds out of the sky.
- 9:31In order to celebrate the founding of the Chinese
- 9:34Communist party in July, 20, 21. The technique is made through
- 9:39the addition of chemicals including particles of silver
- 9:43iodide among clouds to Spur condensation and increase the
- 9:48chance of precipitation in a particular area.
- 9:53So, other nations that are using cloud seeding is Thailand.
- 9:57Also sell the United Arab Emirates have experimented with
- 10:03the technique by employing groans.
- 10:05These drones release and Trickle charge into clouds leading to
- 10:09condensation and a greater chance of repressive portation.
- 10:14So in saying all of this, China and Pakistan share a border.
- 10:21And last time I looked clouds, don't particularly care about me
- 10:24and made borders. So they share a boundary.
- 10:28Why is it that we're blaming immediately blaming climate
- 10:31change when China is also conducting geoengineering
- 10:36experiments and experiments that scientists don't fully know or
- 10:42appreciate how it will affect the climate and what other
- 10:45effects it may have. Whether it will excellent
- 10:47actually reverse climate change and it causes rain.
- 10:52Why Can't This what if this is the actual cause of the
- 10:55flooding, the cause of this excess rain, China participating
- 10:59in geoengineering experiments, over their Nation.
- 11:02Those clouds in going over to Pakistan and flooding the whole
- 11:07nation, killing thousands of people.
- 11:09And yet, we're constantly led to believe that it has to be
- 11:12climate crisis. The climate crisis is to blame
- 11:16Can't be geoengineering. It can't be men doing crazy
- 11:20experiments to the whether my opinion scientists have a lot to
- 11:24answer for in geoengineering could very well be the problem
- 11:29and not this alleged climate change.
- 11:32That's my opinion. Please let me know what you
- 11:34think. Thank you for listening to the
- 11:37slippery slope
