Transcript
- 0:00Hi everybody, Welcome to Did That Age Well, the podcast that
- 0:03suffers from an excess of personality today, Hold On to
- 0:09Your Butts because we've got a couple of guys who are amped to
- 0:15talk about Jurassic Park. They've been yapping about it on
- 0:19their own podcast called Hold On to Your Butts.
- 0:23A couple of friends of mine, Paul and JD, welcome to the pod.
- 0:29Hi. Thanks for having us.
- 0:31Oh my God, I'm so glad to have you guys here.
- 0:34And welcome everybody to the most popular episode that this
- 0:37podcast will do. Oh.
- 0:38Wow. OK, Jurassic Park, Very popular.
- 0:41Movie The highest grossing episode that this may may ever
- 0:44have until we do. What was the one that the
- 0:47Titanic? Yeah.
- 0:48Oh, we did that one already. Maybe we did revisit.
- 0:51Yeah. Just terrific just to like
- 0:53follow up at the right cadence, you guys, what's going on?
- 0:57Tell the people about the show that you're doing.
- 1:01That's you, Mommy. OK, Well, oh you, Mr. Hammond.
- 1:04Also, yeah, for those who are listening and not watching,
- 1:07you're missing, you probably are missing out big time because
- 1:11we're going full method here, JD.
- 1:16Gotti playing as John Hammond right now.
- 1:19You know, this is not something I do every day.
- 1:22But, you know, when I get to, you know, did this age well, I
- 1:25want to dress up like the character of the movie we're
- 1:27talking about. So, and thank you for that this
- 1:29morning. I actually did.
- 1:30Sorry, I asked you a question and then immediately started
- 1:33interrupting you with my own thoughts but.
- 1:36We're in it. He likes it.
- 1:37Yeah, we're, I think he does. You know, he's been on this
- 1:39podcast before. He knows how this goes.
- 1:42I this morning as I was deciding what am I going to wear, I did,
- 1:48I got out a couple of options. I said OK, here's a normal
- 1:51outfit. And then I got out kind of like
- 1:53my Laura Dern nice bit and I said, am I going to wear this?
- 1:57She's our queen. She is our queen.
- 1:59But I went into, I went into it. First, Dallas Howard is my
- 2:01queen. OK.
- 2:02Yeah, hey. I'm the big Howard fans.
- 2:05He is. That's what I learned through
- 2:06the rewatch. Yeah, She's the unsung, unsung
- 2:09hero of the franchise. You know who I think is the
- 2:11unsung hero? The T Rex.
- 2:13Say what? Rexy baby Rexy legacy character.
- 2:18A real legacy character. Anyway, all that to say, I was,
- 2:23I was on the on the verge of coming in here looking like a
- 2:28camp counselor, but I, I didn't. I'm wearing my normal clothes.
- 2:33I like that you think about what you're going to wear on the
- 2:35podcast, though. I mean, I think it's a big part
- 2:37of it. Some people don't seem to care
- 2:38about it too much, but you know. I mean, this is Malcolm.
- 2:43I'm doing Malcolm. You're wearing a blue thing with
- 2:45your. Hands, you're wearing a blue, so
- 2:47I don't know if I can say this, but you're going to have to
- 2:49unbutton those buttons about 5. More Hey Malcolm wearing leather
- 2:54laser. So warm out, this is summer
- 2:58mount. Transition lenses, you know, his
- 3:01lenses are always kind of in between glasses and sunny
- 3:04they're. Tinted.
- 3:05I don't think that they're transitions.
- 3:07I don't think those were invented yet.
- 3:09Maybe. Maybe.
- 3:10Have you seen the 6th? The 6th Jurassic Park film?
- 3:13Jurassic World Dominion. I have seen it, yes.
- 3:16Do you remember the part where Malcolm's like, going to take
- 3:19off an extra button and Bryce Dallis, Howard's like?
- 3:21No, it's not Bryce Dallis, Howard.
- 3:22It's the other. It's the pilot character who
- 3:24looks at it. Is that true?
- 3:25Yeah, it is true, all right. I only shot it once.
- 3:27I saw it in during COVID when I think it was Jurassic World
- 3:30Dominion. It was in the theaters but it
- 3:34wasn't during the time when like you could just like rent out a
- 3:37theater with your friends because they you know, like
- 3:42nobody could go to the movie theater.
- 3:43So for my friends birthday we rented out the theater and
- 3:47watched Jurassic World Dominion. Pretty sure that was the one it.
- 3:49Was. I I liked it.
- 3:52I mean, it was fun because it was like a field trip because
- 3:55leaving the house was fun. So I think that if I watched it
- 3:59today, maybe I wouldn't say that, but I was like, wow, this
- 4:02is so fun. This is so much bigger than my
- 4:06regular regular TV at home. Well, we're always debating
- 4:10whether you go to Jurassic Park for Dino action or the big
- 4:14thoughts. What do you when you think about
- 4:16it, what do you want from a Jurassic Park movie?
- 4:18I want big Dinos. You want the Dinos.
- 4:20But I like that the first one really gives you both.
- 4:24I like that the first one gives you both.
- 4:26I got to be honest, the first one and Jurassic World Dominion,
- 4:31At least I'm pretty sure that's the Jurassic World that it was.
- 4:34Again, another part of the podcast, you know.
- 4:37Was there a city chase with velociraptors?
- 4:40It was probably that one. It came out during the pandemic,
- 4:42OK. Yeah, Dominion.
- 4:44Those are the only two I've seen.
- 4:46You haven't seen any of the in between ones?
- 4:48JP 3. JP 4.
- 4:52No. LW Colon.
- 4:54JP stingy and I'm going to keep saying no.
- 4:56JP, JW 2 following. Following along with your pods.
- 5:03So I feel like it's going to be a big summer for me watching all
- 5:08those movies. Let me circle back to what I
- 5:10asked 5 minutes ago and then interrupted myself.
- 5:13Tell us about the podcast. Hold on to your buds.
- 5:16Well, it's about how the biggest show on Earth lost his bite,
- 5:19which was my thesis going into this whole project, which was
- 5:23Jurassic Park. It was the biggest thing in the
- 5:2690s, dinosaurs were everywhere and then they made 6 movies and
- 5:31most people couldn't tell you anything about the five after
- 5:34the first one. They probably people think that
- 5:37they've seen them, but they haven't seen all of them.
- 5:39That was me. I was pretty sure I had seen
- 5:41some of most of the movies. So that was the idea was like
- 5:45what happened here? Yeah, I did this.
- 5:47What happened? And what happened to us, we use
- 5:50these Chinese, What happened? What happened?
- 5:53They're they're not extinct because they keep pumping those
- 5:57movies out. They do.
- 5:58Another one coming. Arguably, I think it's bigger
- 6:00than ever. I mean, like I said, you can go
- 6:01into Walmart right now, get some a Jurassic Park T-shirt, big
- 6:05time. You could buy Dino cookies.
- 6:07You can get Jurassic Park. Think Mother's Circus cookies.
- 6:11Yes, which we ate on one of the podcasts.
- 6:13Oh, that's so fun. Yeah, I mean, it's all over the
- 6:15place. You know what you guys should
- 6:17do? You guys should do like a
- 6:18bracket of like Jurassic Park merch and like try to really
- 6:24narrow down what is like the best, most quintessential
- 6:30Jurassic Park merch. I'd like to see that.
- 6:32I like that's a request. I got my niece a Raptor like
- 6:37helmet that when you open the mouth it does the you know the
- 6:41Raptor voice. That's sick.
- 6:43I was like that. But that's more of a JP three.
- 6:46You wouldn't know that, sure. And I don't get it at all.
- 6:52I could obviously understand the noise that a Raptor can make.
- 6:56It sounds more like a seal. Yeah, in that one.
- 6:59But not in this. There were Raptors in this one.
- 7:02They didn't sound like. It was Raptors in all of them.
- 7:04They're all basically. The same RV it's Raptors and T
- 7:07Rex. Raptors and T Rex the.
- 7:09Raptors communicating is a big thing in JP 3.
- 7:12Yeah, they did communicate in this one as well.
- 7:15They're like the same movie, I swear to God.
- 7:18There is the some bullshit excuse where people go to an
- 7:21island. It doesn't mean to anything.
- 7:23There's some kind of changing alliances.
- 7:27Dino action in the jungle, Yeah, kills and they escape.
- 7:32That's all of them. And then and then they go back
- 7:35from the next one. They never learn.
- 7:38They never learn. What else are you guys up to?
- 7:41What other What other things are you doing?
- 7:44Well, I do stand up comedy around town constantly doing
- 7:47that. I have a music video comedy mash
- 7:48up show that I'm doing at Meeting Information Cafe.
- 7:51Now. It's supposed to be third
- 7:52Thursdays, or excuse me, third Fridays of the month here,
- 7:55starting soon. So I need to look at a show
- 7:57comedy mash up show. Yeah.
- 7:59And angle weird. You know what I'm saying?
- 8:01Nice. I don't.
- 8:02Know what are you talking? About what do you mean?
- 8:04Angle weird. It's never been.
- 8:05What, are you sorry? I mean, never mind.
- 8:08Forget him. His show's great.
- 8:09I went last Time is better than ever.
- 8:11I've been over the years, Better.
- 8:13It's only getting better. No, thank you.
- 8:15Great to hear comedians keep picking different Creed music
- 8:18videos every time. For some reason Creed is there.
- 8:21Also picked up just like Jurassic Park.
- 8:22Never. That's a fight from the 90s.
- 8:24Ever lost it? Creed's great.
- 8:26Creed's great. It's great.
- 8:28What about you? What are you up to?
- 8:29What else am I doing? I mean I got other podcast
- 8:33stuff. You're at the beautiful did
- 8:35dude. IDK studios we record City cast,
- 8:37Denver daily local news and culture podcast.
- 8:40Also very good. We talked mayor about stuff and.
- 8:44Every day. Wow.
- 8:45Best burgers? And I support my friends.
- 8:47JD sometimes leaves voicemails and complaints about stuff that
- 8:50we said and. I mean, that's kind of how the
- 8:52pod came about. Paul messed up a Jurassic Park
- 8:55quote and I called in, and then he decided he needs to correct
- 8:59it by doing a whole series where he still couldn't tell you what
- 9:06the name of the game warden of Jurassic Park is.
- 9:09Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's Robert Muldoon.
- 9:11There it is. There.
- 9:14You go. Do you know the actor's name?
- 9:15No, I don't like quizzes. Robert back OK anyway, spared no
- 9:21expense. Spared no expense.
- 9:23You know what? I'm you.
- 9:24Hate this man. OK, Channeling Hammond.
- 9:28Yeah, you're. Welcome.
- 9:28See right back at you. Yeah, he is.
- 9:30What's your most memorable line? My I think that the most
- 9:34memorable line to me would be let's see if of course I wrote
- 9:40well, OK, look it up. Here's the thing, the the first
- 9:44line that I did start with, when they say he suffers from an
- 9:46excess of personality, I think that's probably my favorite
- 9:49line. But I did already say that my
- 9:51second favorite line would be the one where Laura Dern says,
- 9:55like, she's like, we'll discuss sexism in survival situations
- 10:01when I get back. I liked that.
- 10:03That's funny. We're totally picking up on
- 10:05different things. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 10:06Totally, totally. Three people can watch a movie
- 10:08and pick completely different things.
- 10:10That's crazy. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:13Interesting. Are we going to talk about the
- 10:16line? Can we talk about the line?
- 10:17JD owes me an apology. OK.
- 10:19JD, would you like to take if? You want to take this moment to
- 10:22apologize to my friend Paul Karoli, who I've mercilessly
- 10:27tortured about this. He insisted that the signature
- 10:30line, you know, the namesake of this podcast, Hold on to your
- 10:34butts, has been said twice in the movie.
- 10:37He claims that it had been said twice.
- 10:39And you said that wouldn't be stupid.
- 10:41I didn't why? Did he say it?
- 10:42Twice. You thought.
- 10:43You thought it was only said once.
- 10:44I thought it was only said once. I thought it was when they were
- 10:46going on the tour and they were, you know, leaving.
- 10:49I thought that was the only time that wow, Samuel L Jackson, yes,
- 10:53he's in this movie, said hold on to your butts.
- 10:56But in the can't believe that probably the 4th rewatch I've
- 10:59done within the last month of it.
- 11:00I did pick up the second hold on to your butts.
- 11:03This is big for which is when they reboot.
- 11:04The whole system, it's kind of the end of the Hold on to Your
- 11:07Butts podcast arc. Is this apology.
- 11:11It's special that it's happening, yeah.
- 11:12And I am so honored that you would choose to do it on this
- 11:16podcast. Did that age?
- 11:17Yeah. We won't speak of it on ours
- 11:19because all the episodes have been recorded well.
- 11:21We're going to do 1 to the new one.
- 11:23We'll we'll talk about it. Again, you can apologize.
- 11:25Again I. Won't you know what?
- 11:26Let's collaborate on this reel so that you're so that your
- 11:30followers know the real apology that needed to take because
- 11:35today. I'm the bigger man and I can
- 11:37admit when I'm wrong just so this.
- 11:40Cheapens it a little bit. Right.
- 11:42All right, we're gonna, we're gonna go ahead and wrap that up.
- 11:44Thank you so much for your time. Tiny Rex size man if you will.
- 11:49Do you really? OK.
- 11:50Do you identify more as AT Rex or a Raptor?
- 11:54T Rex, I'm kind of clumsy, you know?
- 11:56I'm a big guy. Yeah, totally clomping around.
- 12:01Making water shake when you walk into a.
- 12:02Well, I would like to think I don't go that far muscular.
- 12:06Muscular. Yeah, muscular.
- 12:07Yeah, I feel like I'm fast and fierce, like a rap.
- 12:11He does hold his arms like this sometimes so.
- 12:14It's crazy. Let's pull his arms right here.
- 12:16He's got a very big, long, big toenail.
- 12:19Did you hear me upstairs looking for you all and I was just
- 12:21hooting, Hooting for you? I'm like good, where the fucks
- 12:27don't they make? Yeah, but I wouldn't understand
- 12:29that because I haven't seen JP 3, of course so.
- 12:33It's someday. Well, one day, yeah, totally.
- 12:37Well, I love that you guys. It sounds like it sounds like
- 12:43maybe the original is your favorite.
- 12:45Would you agree with that? Yeah, I mean, that's the one.
- 12:49I kicked it all off. I think it's got to be, there's
- 12:52no other movies without that one.
- 12:54I mean, it's, it's got a place, it's true always #1.
- 12:58The special thing about the original is you're right, it has
- 13:01the combination, the perfect combination of the big near
- 13:04future sci-fi ideas that come from Michael Crichton, which is
- 13:07brilliant. Like reengineering bringing back
- 13:10dinosaurs. So fucking mind blowing and
- 13:14interesting that. Spectacle. 40 years ago.
- 13:17Hand doesn't mean you should. That concept that we've simply
- 13:21not learned. And then he layers on top of
- 13:24that the theme park, which is an idea that came about six years
- 13:26later in his life. And then a couple years later
- 13:29after the book still wasn't working when he introduced the
- 13:31character of Ian Malcolm to to lay over this whole thing, the
- 13:34chaos theory element that creates A dramatic irony for the
- 13:38viewer as you're watching and you're not sure who's right, is
- 13:42Malcolm right, is Hammond right? What's going to happen with the
- 13:45Dinos? And you have that extra layer of
- 13:47uncertainty in the film. It's just very well crafted.
- 13:50It's classic Spielberg. It is my third favorite of the
- 13:53series. Your third favorite series?
- 13:56OK. Well if I'm rewatching them I'm
- 13:59not going to JP one. I find the special effects kind
- 14:02of flimsy. I find it all kind of like it.
- 14:04Was 1993. It holds up though.
- 14:06I mean that did age well. The CG in Jurassic Park 1 from
- 14:111993 still. Or 1993 it's.
- 14:15Because they used it sparingly. He knew what worked, what
- 14:18didn't. The masterful direction of
- 14:20Spielberg. Yeah.
- 14:21I know this is the consensus opinion.
- 14:23It's not my opinion. I think seeing the I think
- 14:26seeing the animatronic Raptors, I think he uses it a little too
- 14:31much. The look the like the head of
- 14:33the one Raptor puppet that he has.
- 14:35And there's like the, the snorting against a window and
- 14:39there's like the, the mean lip curl, like I just, it gets a
- 14:43little bit old on a rewatch. Like it doesn't do it for me.
- 14:46Whereas the later ones when the effects get better, I think the
- 14:49Howard trilogy is like way underappreciated.
- 14:51I think Jurassic World won. I, I would rewatch that any day.
- 14:55And then especially Fallen Kingdom, the Dino action is,
- 14:58it's not my favorite part of the franchise, but the Dino action
- 15:00and fallen Kingdom combined with the big ideas of the cloning and
- 15:04the great climactic moment with the little girl, it's, it's
- 15:07really quite good. Those two I would rank higher
- 15:09than. The Angel is the name of the
- 15:11Little Mercy. I wouldn't remember that.
- 15:14That's what JD look at. That's what.
- 15:15That's why we got him. Yeah, one of many.
- 15:18Why is that a nerd on the 1st? Well, I don't get it.
- 15:23I don't understand. OK, interesting.
- 15:26I I didn't expect that. You really are you really are
- 15:30contrarian, aren't you? I'm.
- 15:31My own man. OK, he says.
- 15:35I'm not like the other guys, OK? I'm a hot mathematician, is what
- 15:41he said. He said I'm a rock star.
- 15:44OK, How do you guys feel like his character ages?
- 15:48I was going to ask you this. We talked about this.
- 15:50I want I'd want to know what you think.
- 15:51Actually, the raw sexuality of Jeff Gold.
- 15:54So here's the thing. I think that Jeff Goldblum is
- 15:57kind of especially in this role, he's a classic hot.
- 16:02That's a timeless hot. He could wear the same thing
- 16:07today. He's.
- 16:08Wearing jade ring? Yes, he's got a big necklace.
- 16:12I mean, his shirt is unbuttoned more buttons throughout the
- 16:16whole movie. It's so good.
- 16:17It's so good. Yeah.
- 16:20She never sits straight up. You know, he's always kind of
- 16:24talking a little bit weird, like, and by that I just mean
- 16:28like, he kind of pronounces his words unlike anyone else that
- 16:33has no, there's no like linguistic consistency.
- 16:38And I love that about him. It's so special what he brings
- 16:40to the line. Reads like finds a way or like
- 16:46what struck me on this rewatch was in the in the helicopter on
- 16:50the way to the island where he's laughing and he's just like
- 16:52horror horror. He's like growling almost.
- 16:55He's like, you guys so weird. Dig up dinosaurs and like.
- 16:59And that's how you know that he's like a mathematician,
- 17:01because you're like, you're not. That's how you know you don't
- 17:04math. Yeah, because he, because he has
- 17:07these like weird nerdy guy quirks and you're like, I don't
- 17:10really get this. Exactly.
- 17:12He's on the spectrum. He's.
- 17:14Certainly, certainly one thing my wife brought up is they
- 17:16objectify Goldblum more than they do during in this movie.
- 17:21Jeff Goldblum showing way more chest.
- 17:24Oh, that's so true. But you know, one thing that
- 17:28really that really was perplexing about Dern's
- 17:31character is that at the end of the film, like, I mean, she's
- 17:36been through hell, everyone else just looking busted.
- 17:40She had her arm. She was armed deep in a pile of
- 17:44shit the day before and on the helicopter ride home.
- 17:49Hair perfect, makeup perfect. She looks as though she just.
- 17:53She's the queen, Yeah. You mean you wouldn't look like
- 17:56that? I'm sure you would, is what I'm
- 18:01getting. At Oh my God and thank you so
- 18:02much so. Wow, these guys what about so
- 18:05the sexuality when you know Goldblum is flirting with Laura
- 18:09Dern's character that how did that age?
- 18:12OK, that I feel so conflicted because on the one hand I'm
- 18:15like, well, he is hot so there's so it's OK.
- 18:20But they are colleagues, sort of, I mean.
- 18:24They just met. They're in a work setting.
- 18:26OK, They're in a work setting. So it's a little bit weird to be
- 18:29like flirting in the work setting.
- 18:32I will say, I think that it establishes that his character
- 18:36is a little slimy, but ultimately he means well.
- 18:40You know, like he's a little bit like, you know, he's a flirt,
- 18:45but he's not really going to steal your girl.
- 18:49Would have stolen the way he was like having her hair.
- 18:52He's hanging her hair. Yeah.
- 18:54He was doing the hand thing. Yeah.
- 18:55And then she's like, hey, Grant, come and look at this, Alan.
- 18:58Look at what? Look how he's flirting with me.
- 19:00And then he runs. That you ever.
- 19:02Why don't you ever do that? Yeah.
- 19:03Basically, she's like, hey, this is how you flirt.
- 19:05And then he jumps out of the vehicle.
- 19:07Yeah. He truly ejects himself from the
- 19:11default. You know what, though?
- 19:13I I'm really glad that they didn't lean too much into that
- 19:17like romantic subplot or like a love triangle conflict.
- 19:22Like they're just using that scene to show us like he's kind
- 19:26of a flirt. He's like a little bit smarmy.
- 19:30He's maybe going to steal your girl.
- 19:32Like watch out. He's probably not going to steal
- 19:35your girl, but he's that's just kind of, he's just a an
- 19:39effortlessly cool guy who, I mean, women are just going to
- 19:44swoon. So I think that really was what
- 19:47it accomplished, and I'm glad that they didn't make it like a,
- 19:51oh, who's going to fall in love at the end of this?
- 19:53Just have that moment in the car with Grant where he's like, are
- 19:56you guys together? Yeah, He's like, I'm always
- 19:58looking for the new X Miss Malcolm, which is not a good
- 20:01line. I mean, that's like a, you know,
- 20:03not a good guy line. But Goldblum gets a lot of You
- 20:06forgive him a lot because you like him so much.
- 20:08Exactly and. He's a hunk and he's hot.
- 20:10That's the line between creep and not creep as.
- 20:12If you're hot as if you're hot, I know that sucks.
- 20:15He's got hot privilege. Yeah, it sucks for some.
- 20:19Pretty privilege, yeah. Yeah, but we all understand
- 20:21that, you know? Paul yeah, we all had it almost
- 20:26move a little closer over here. It's just good over what do you
- 20:29meant reach your hair at that what it says what is it I want
- 20:32to explain to as theory by dropping things on your hand so
- 20:35Molly will know I. Did I?
- 20:36I heard this Ted talk about chaos theory and it actually is
- 20:40not really at all I think. What that character?
- 20:44Put Gray in the movie. Yeah.
- 20:46What is your understanding of that?
- 20:48Oh God, that's not even go there, OK.
- 20:50Fair enough. I really you asked me the same
- 20:52question. I'll give you the same answer.
- 20:53Don't talk to me about this. Was there butterfly?
- 20:57Yeah, butterfly effect, couldn't tell you.
- 21:00It's an interdisciplinary study which is a branch of mathematics
- 21:05stating that within apparent random chaotic slash complex
- 21:08systems there are underlying patterns.
- 21:11OK. And I didn't read that.
- 21:13That's great. And thank you for that.
- 21:15I took notes. Good.
- 21:17He took notes. It's you.
- 21:18Did then to the Malcolm effect. Do you remember that?
- 21:20Well, this is more in the book. Sorry.
- 21:22It's the Malcolm effect. You wanna talk?
- 21:24About OK, that's my thing so I. Believe your big implications,
- 21:28OK, Yeah. Good.
- 21:31OK, good, good. You wanna know, one thing that
- 21:34really doesn't age well about Jurassic Park is the way that
- 21:38people say life finds a way when it doesn't make sense.
- 21:42Like not in the movie, but in life where people, like,
- 21:45culturally, where people are like, well, life finds a way.
- 21:48It's like there are very few times where someone has said
- 21:53that and I've been like, yeah, you're right.
- 21:55What do you mean? Well, I feel like, OK, maybe
- 21:58this isn't getting a little bit too specific, but there's
- 22:01actually one person I know who I have in mind who says this.
- 22:05Like kind of often when it this is great when it really when I
- 22:10was. Blast this person he like got
- 22:12off a charging. Spot.
- 22:13And he's like. Life like finds a way.
- 22:15It really is. I got to be honest with you, it
- 22:19is. Exactly.
- 22:20Yeah, it is exactly like that. So I don't know if I don't know
- 22:23actually how they do. This now this is.
- 22:26Great, and something worse out in your favor.
- 22:28You're like, well, wife finds a way.
- 22:29Paul finds a way. That's what I'm all for.
- 22:32My own spoon on it. How about that, Paul?
- 22:35Hey, wait, you made it. How about yourself?
- 22:36Where you go? Yeah, You know, I'm my own man.
- 22:39Yeah, he's not. This is great, though.
- 22:41I've never heard this before. Really.
- 22:43Yeah. I don't know.
- 22:44I've not heard someone use it colloquially.
- 22:46I once made a mistake at a party.
- 22:47I said nature finds a way. I was trying to quote Jurassic
- 22:50Park and this very group of nerds I was with, myself
- 22:52included. They just pilloried me.
- 22:54They laughed at me. They said you fool.
- 22:57And you didn't learn from that because clearly you misquoted
- 23:02the music. Yeah, I did.
- 23:04And but it LED us to where we are today, so thank goodness.
- 23:07Life finds a way. And Paul finds a way.
- 23:11Pod finds a way. I love that.
- 23:14Life finds a pod. Which do you prefer?
- 23:17Pod finds a way, yeah. Can I, we ask, did rich old guys
- 23:22throwing money at problems age well?
- 23:24You know what? I think that this is one of the
- 23:26things that really ages best about this movie is that they
- 23:31really tried to warn us about what happens when billionaires
- 23:35get too involved in science, when they think, oh, that seems
- 23:39cool. And then they fund a thing
- 23:41without thinking about, I don't know, consequences.
- 23:45I think a thing that Michael Crichton does that bothers me is
- 23:49that he often really villainizes scientists and is like, oh, oh,
- 23:55if scientists had their way, we'd all be scorching the earth
- 24:00and we don't know our power. But really, to me, the enemy of
- 24:04this movie, The reason that everything went wrong is because
- 24:09a super rich guy was like, well, I think dinosaurs are cool.
- 24:13And he had the money. And he had the money to make a
- 24:15problem for the world. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:17Yeah, I mean. Just like Tesla and electric
- 24:20cars. I mean Elon Musk and.
- 24:23Electric cars are the dinosaurs in.
- 24:24The city. We'll see.
- 24:25Time will tell. I feel like an electric.
- 24:27Heart. OK, there's something about the
- 24:33the depiction of the rich villain, because that that's
- 24:36also the same in all of the Jurassic Park movies.
- 24:38There's always a rich guy I. Feel like he's not really
- 24:41portrayed as a villain in this movie.
- 24:42Hammond Yeah. Well, he has his moment of
- 24:45redemption right at the end. Yeah, But he, I don't know, I
- 24:48think he's a villain. Who else is is?
- 24:51What do you think? The Raptors of the villain.
- 24:52OK, yeah, JD's all. JD's got Dino brain.
- 24:55It's all about the Dinos for you.
- 24:57Humans are incident. Oh, yeah, sorry.
- 24:59At Jurassic Park. It's not a picture of hand in
- 25:01that skull. It's not it's not an old guy
- 25:03skull right there, all right. It's a dinosaur.
- 25:05That's. Great.
- 25:06You know, I do feel like Nedry could kind of be considered the
- 25:11villain. Nedry's definitely human.
- 25:13Breed may be the real villain Hubris was.
- 25:18Really. The villain all.
- 25:19Along, I mean, you get, I mean, that's also very true.
- 25:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:23Well, yeah. Because you think Hammond kind
- 25:25of, I mean, very is the villain. I don't know about the main
- 25:27villain because he gets all these people come to this island
- 25:30because people are dying from what he's doing, right.
- 25:33And so the whole premise of it is that they're this guy's
- 25:35coming, the lawyers there because they want to, you know,
- 25:38check and make sure if it's safe because the investors don't want
- 25:40to keep investing in something that's killing people.
- 25:43And so he he gets Laura Dern and Sam Neil's character to come be
- 25:47on his side. He's like, hey, I have, you
- 25:49know, specialists in the field that he thinks we're just going
- 25:52to be overwhelmed by seeing the dinosaurs.
- 25:54And they're going to be on his side no matter what he thinks
- 25:56they'll be. You know, the wool will be
- 25:58pulled over their eyes and they won't be able to see the
- 26:00reality. He's going to fund their dig.
- 26:02Yeah, he throws money at it. Yeah.
- 26:04He's like, hey, it's OK, because guess what?
- 26:06I'm going to pay for this for three years.
- 26:07So that's why they. So he lures these people onto
- 26:10this island under false pretenses.
- 26:11And yeah, he is a villain. He is.
- 26:14I absolutely agree that he is a villain, but I don't think that
- 26:18he is portrayed as the villain. I think that Spielberg sees
- 26:22himself in Hammond and he doesn't want to be the villain.
- 26:25Well, Spielberg, it's This is why it's a good movie, because
- 26:28he's a complicated character. Like he recognizes that he made
- 26:31mistakes at the end of the film. That's an interesting arc.
- 26:34That's a. That's a.
- 26:35That's a compelling arc. They're like you could see your.
- 26:37Something I've made a mistake and you realized?
- 26:40It I mean he lets his grandchildren go out there and
- 26:44then when they're like your grandchildren are dying, are
- 26:46like in danger. He's like, let's not kill the
- 26:48don't get the lysine protocol, though, don't shoot them.
- 26:51He, I mean, he may have been, you know, more well served if
- 26:55one of his grandchildren died. Like, lesson learned.
- 26:57Yeah. That one of those kids should.
- 26:58Have died. I agree that one of those kids
- 27:00should have died. Absolutely.
- 27:01Which one would have raised the stakes?
- 27:02Oh my God, which one? I Timmy, I want Tim.
- 27:07I would rather. Like you want it?
- 27:09You want to get rid of Timmy Daydream?
- 27:11I think her Lex is better because she's the hacker.
- 27:13Yeah. I'm a hacker.
- 27:15She's a. Hacker great line.
- 27:16I remember oh iconic line. She.
- 27:19One of so many. I'm a hacker.
- 27:22I'm a hacker girls. Blinds I don't.
- 27:27Yeah. We all fall asleep.
- 27:30We all agree. Don't worry, we're all on the
- 27:32same team, everybody. If I could have found a purple
- 27:34hat, I would have come as her Lex.
- 27:36You think so? Yes, OK.
- 27:40I don't know about that, but yeah, I think that probably
- 27:42probably would have been best if we killed off Timmy because he's
- 27:46the youngest. He's the one that's most
- 27:48vulnerable. Don't love?
- 27:49Him as much. You don't love him as much.
- 27:52We have as much time. As he's hurt, I think he's more
- 27:54fun. They make him more fun.
- 27:56He's got a he's, you know, he's got a little sense of humor.
- 27:58The night goggles. The night goggles.
- 28:01He loves Dino facts. Yeah, and we did kind of need
- 28:04that too. Like, even though Lex is, you
- 28:08know, she's a hacker, famously, we still needed some of those
- 28:12dyno facts throughout the movie to really keep things running.
- 28:15For sure. Yeah, for sure.
- 28:17Couldn't have just given those to us.
- 28:19Because he's quoting facts from Grant's book, right?
- 28:21He's like, I read your book. It's like, it's different.
- 28:23Not that. So we could have quoting facts.
- 28:26Ever since we've done the dinosaur the the Jurassic Park
- 28:28rewatch, I've noticed it. Like basically everything anyone
- 28:32knows about dinosaurs if you talk to them is from Jurassic
- 28:35Jurassic. You know, I actually.
- 28:37Got dinosaurs or descended from birds?
- 28:40Thank you not. Distinctive from birds, they
- 28:42evolve in case of birds. I too have seen it's like the
- 28:461993 Jurassic Park. You know, I actually, I listened
- 28:50to this All Things Considered story about how basically
- 28:55there's this like Jurassic Park generation of paleontologists
- 28:59that like paleontology is booming, that there's a bunch of
- 29:04scientists that enter the field being like, I loved Jurassic
- 29:07Park. I know one of these people,
- 29:10someone at the at Morrison out at the Dinosaur Ridge.
- 29:13I, we did an interview for the For City cast.
- 29:15That's so cool. And I was like, what's up with
- 29:17that paleontology these days? And she was like, there's too
- 29:19many, too many. Yeah.
- 29:21It's like nothing of super. Yeah.
- 29:23Yeah, it's super competitive, but they are discovering new
- 29:27dinosaur species. You know, it is like it's
- 29:31advancing the field, so that's cool.
- 29:35I heard some new Dinos are dropping in a couple of weeks in
- 29:37theaters. 2 headed Raptors is the is what the trailer is
- 29:41alluding to. Jurassic World Rebirth, JP 7A,
- 29:45KAJ, W4 we're all excited. And and we all.
- 29:50Winged Raptors, Scarlett Johansson, Scarlet.
- 29:54Also there How? What about fat guy equals bad
- 29:58guy? I let's talk about that.
- 30:00Didn't age well. Didn't age well because OK, I
- 30:03feel like maybe I'm wrong for this and if I am then sue me.
- 30:09You're wrong for this one, Molly.
- 30:14Yeah, what? The I.
- 30:16I really need my. Jay ZI.
- 30:19Like when villains are skinny. Like sinewy, weird looking.
- 30:25Like a Rami Malek. Yeah, I need them to be kind of
- 30:28like, I like a, a really cartoonish, like, skinny
- 30:32villain. I don't like, I don't like when
- 30:35they make the villains fat. And that's not even just from
- 30:38like a perspective of like, you know, I don't want us to be
- 30:41making fun of fat people. It's like, that's just really
- 30:44what I prefer. It's like skinny.
- 30:45People are gross. It's because skinny people are
- 30:48gross. It's not so true and I've always
- 30:50been saying that. Wayne Knight is jolly in his,
- 30:54you know, his physique. I, I don't think he has A and I
- 30:57like him as a villain. Yeah, because there's, you know,
- 31:00he really takes a lot of joy in doing bad.
- 31:03Anti hero I'd say more than villain.
- 31:05You think Nitri's an anti hero because he's stealing?
- 31:08What a villain is too harsh. But he doesn't.
- 31:11Really do anything that bad? Are you kidding?
- 31:14Stealing the Dino embryos to take it to some other company,
- 31:16Yeah. Because Hammond isn't paying him
- 31:18enough. OK, you know what's crazy is
- 31:19that he said a million times that movie spared no expense,
- 31:22but he did not. Yeah, he was way like, yeah.
- 31:26But you could, you couldn't just like give him another 10 grand,
- 31:30Yeah. And do an allery.
- 31:32I thought that was crazy. And he's like, your money
- 31:34problems are actually your. Fault.
- 31:35You're right. Yeah, pay workers what they're
- 31:37worth. Billionaire so I felt like even
- 31:42though there were no explicit fat jokes, they did play on some
- 31:47some stereotypes like he's a slob, he's going to spend 20
- 31:52minutes at the vending machine. You know, he moved fat guy falls
- 31:57don't love that. I felt like for the 90s, it
- 32:02could have been so much worse, you know?
- 32:04Sure, Yeah, yeah, it could have been a lot worse.
- 32:05And I mean, we were talking off Mike about how he is really,
- 32:08he's moving. He's not capable.
- 32:11He's capable. He's like, you know, he's
- 32:14running. He crashes the Jeep and then he
- 32:16puts the winch around the stump and he's he's going up and down.
- 32:20Yeah, he's he's doing they. Do they do the physical gag of
- 32:23like fat guy falls? But up until that point, it's
- 32:26like he wasn't just a stumbling idiot, yeah.
- 32:30Yeah, yeah. I think you're right though, it
- 32:31could have been worse. There's no trans panic in
- 32:34Jurassic. Park no gay panic no gay That's
- 32:36also a big 90s thing. That's good.
- 32:39Watch a friend's episode, guys. Gay panic is.
- 32:43Yeah, totally. Yeah, but it could have as far
- 32:46as like the fat jokes go, no one, no one like outwardly was
- 32:52like, hey fatty, you know which for a 90s movie.
- 32:57I think Hammond at one point teases him about eating or like
- 33:00eating candy. Oh.
- 33:02So am I remembering that wrong as usually?
- 33:05He was like, look at your desk. It's like he said something
- 33:07about him having butterfingers. Actually, they would have been.
- 33:11OK. And he was like, you know,
- 33:13Dumble on Conned. A dumble on tond.
- 33:16Yeah, about because it was the first time they go into the park
- 33:19and all of his stuff has to be working right?
- 33:20And it's not so. And then also he's doing a fat
- 33:23joke. And also he.
- 33:24Yeah. You get it, Paul.
- 33:26Should I explain it more skinny to?
- 33:29Understand what? Is a candy bar that you can buy?
- 33:32No. You stopped me dead in my tracks
- 33:36with double entendre. Never really would say it like
- 33:41that before. It's funny.
- 33:42Yeah, OK, what about what about hot chicks as screensavers?
- 33:46Did that age well? Because on his computer there's
- 33:48a yeah, there's a bikini clad woman just on there.
- 33:52It's like a screensaver. It's just a picture he's got on
- 33:54the. Screen It seems like really the
- 33:56only woman who we meet is. Turn around like a computer.
- 34:00There's not if there's a bikini person on there.
- 34:03Yeah. Look, it's age well.
- 34:05You know what this is? You did.
- 34:06Go ahead, you don't have to. No, no, I'm going to show you
- 34:09what it is. It's a really nice picture of
- 34:11me. Simple.
- 34:14This case isn't that nice. It's a Apple default kind of,
- 34:21you know, blue. Very water.
- 34:24Yeah, yeah, could. Be the Royal Gorge right there.
- 34:26That could be the Royal Gorge. It could be could be the Grand
- 34:30Canyon. Anyway, so it's not, it's not a
- 34:34hot girl. But I do think that that perhaps
- 34:40he isn't. He hasn't seen a woman in
- 34:42months. You know, I mean, they're on
- 34:44that island by themselves. I mean, this is a secluded
- 34:46island, yeah. You're right.
- 34:47You're right. So I mean so you forgive.
- 34:49Him. Yeah.
- 34:51I do. I'm kind of like, yeah, I get
- 34:55it. I mean, in a workplace.
- 34:58Thank you. That's really, that's really
- 35:00like not good. If I had a Co worker who had
- 35:02like a hot woman as a screensaver, I'd say I don't
- 35:07like that that's inappropriate. He had, I seen it wasn't for
- 35:11months. I'll see that it's OK.
- 35:13I don't know, maybe. Jeeps.
- 35:19Jeeps did that age well. The Jeep design.
- 35:21I think so they're. Pretty cool looking jeeps.
- 35:23I mean, I would, I would think somebody who had a Jurassic Park
- 35:27Jeep, I would judge them for that.
- 35:29There is that person around Denver that has one that drives.
- 35:31Around that, that is true and I judge them.
- 35:34He gets the people talking. It's true.
- 35:36I mean, whenever we talk about Jurassic Park to any civilians
- 35:40out there, they want to talk about it.
- 35:42You know, it's weird that the Jeep has lingered as a thing
- 35:45from the movie. There's something about that
- 35:46design and the color scheme. Yeah, especially because it's
- 35:49not the only car in the movie. There's a lot of Explorers.
- 35:55Yeah. No one's talking about Ford
- 35:57Explorers like they're talking about the Jeeps in Jurassic
- 35:59Park. Yeah, you don't see them
- 36:01explored, you know, Jurassic parked up.
- 36:04No, you don't. So smoking indoors, huh?
- 36:10At that age, Sam Sam Jackson had that.
- 36:12He's so cool. Cigar wagon the whole time he
- 36:15did he. He worked.
- 36:16It it is surprising to see people smoking inside sometimes.
- 36:19It's also surprising in movies to see people like when smoking
- 36:23was so ubiquitous that people, like, talk with cigarettes in
- 36:27their mouths. No hands, just just talking, you
- 36:31know? Yeah, yeah, that seems so
- 36:33addicted. Cigarettes are bad, OK.
- 36:37They can't stop getting that nicotine hint.
- 36:39No, but it is. It is definitely a marker of him
- 36:43being very cool or bad. I mean, I thought that was
- 36:46shorthand for smoking is a bad guy thing.
- 36:49I absolutely did not see it that way, no.
- 36:51I don't. Yeah, he was a.
- 36:52Good guy it. Would be today if they made a
- 36:54movie today and they made a character smoke, that would be a
- 36:57signal for. Sam Neill famously said in one
- 37:00of these interviews that he when he read that that character was
- 37:04smoking a cigarette in the script, he knew that character
- 37:07was going to die because that's like shorthand.
- 37:10Well. Interesting.
- 37:11Yeah, because he was too cool to live.
- 37:13I can't. Yeah.
- 37:14Yeah. Sam Jackson, too cool to live.
- 37:17Although we haven't seen a body. You know, they famously say, you
- 37:19know, you don't see no, but you don't see a body.
- 37:21They could be alive. I like to bring him.
- 37:23Sam Jackson might come back and rebirth.
- 37:25That's my prediction. That would rule Sam.
- 37:27Jackson not. Going to.
- 37:28He's not going to. That man was dead.
- 37:31OK, he only saw an arm. Arm.
- 37:32He only saw an arm. Yeah, he's gonna have a cool
- 37:34robot arm. That that would be safe the arm,
- 37:38the. Remaining arm suggests that the
- 37:41rest of him is inside the belly of there's.
- 37:44There is a strong suggestions that he was eating, but what if
- 37:48he wasn't? The what?
- 37:50I like this conspiracy a little bit.
- 37:52All right, let's keep that. Going what if, yeah, what if
- 37:55he's alive and he's orchestrating some saw like
- 38:00thing? That's why he keeps bringing all
- 38:01of them back to the island to kill them out of revenge.
- 38:04And he's really been the one, yeah.
- 38:06He's been public mastering them all behind the the whole thing.
- 38:09I think that would be disappointing to me if that was
- 38:11what the new movie was about. I think that would be a shame.
- 38:15I'd be bummed. Yeah, I'd be bummed.
- 38:17That's like that's why we be we keep coming back here, not
- 38:21because of like the constant trap and loop of hubris and
- 38:27where it gets us, you know? OK, let's talk about let's talk
- 38:34about woman inherits the Earth. OK, so, so I like that Lex is a
- 38:41hacker. I like that that we don't have
- 38:45to have a romantic subplot for Sattler to be an important
- 38:49character in this plot. I like that she is actually very
- 38:54smart and capable. You don't.
- 38:57Do you not think that they were an item Sattler and Grant had?
- 39:01No, but just because they just because they are together
- 39:04doesn't mean it's a romantic subplot.
- 39:06It wasn't like, will they won't they or like throughout the
- 39:09movie, they're getting together. It seemed like when they
- 39:12arrived, they were already a couple, you know?
- 39:14Yeah, So. And she was there not because
- 39:18she was just tagging along with him, but because of her
- 39:22knowledge of Paleobot. Yeah, equal expert.
- 39:26Equal expert. Yeah, so that's cool.
- 39:29There's still a couple things where I'm like, it was the 90s
- 39:32mostly, that she continued to look perfect and beautiful
- 39:37throughout the whole thing. Yeah, that's mostly.
- 39:42And also like that there were a couple parts where they were
- 39:44like, it's feminism, am I right? Like the woman inherits the
- 39:48Earth thing where it's like. I thought that was a strange
- 39:50beat. Do you know the whole line?
- 39:52Do you remember this? Yeah, God creates dinosaurs, God
- 39:54destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, man brings back dinosaurs,
- 39:58and then dinosaurs destroy man and woman inherits the earth.
- 40:02Yeah, interesting line. When I went and saw this, I saw
- 40:05this at Film on the Rocks and there and when she said that
- 40:09line, everyone went. So I think that's kind of, I
- 40:14don't know, I think that speaks for itself that people really,
- 40:17people really like it. I like it, it's great.
- 40:20I think it's cool. It feels good.
- 40:22It feels good, but it's also kind of like, OK, so.
- 40:26So what are we? Doing now what are we doing?
- 40:28Yeah, exactly. He's a little performative.
- 40:30I mean, it's not like there's any outcomes from it.
- 40:34No, it's just a statement. It's not.
- 40:36Yeah, she's not taking control of anything at any point.
- 40:39She's not. Running the electricity going, I
- 40:42mean, she does go out and do that, does that, Yeah, she does
- 40:45get the. Intricity going, she does
- 40:48diagnose the triceratops. Is that what it is?
- 40:53I mean, Jay, investigate, there's no conclusion.
- 40:55There's no diagnosing. She gets her arm deep in that
- 40:59pilot. Glyceral scene, yes.
- 41:02I read an oral history of the movie and one of Lauren Dern's
- 41:05quotes was she was just telling a story about how people on the
- 41:08street when they recognize her, they stay asked to smell her
- 41:12hands. Oh wow.
- 41:14Because they have imagined her. It's so distinctive the way she
- 41:18plunges her hand. So when you remember, you not
- 41:20remember that she has a like an elbow long well.
- 41:24This is what she. Said I guess she's got an arm
- 41:26condom on. Yeah, yeah, I'm.
- 41:28Not speaking for the people on the street.
- 41:30I'm different, yeah. Thought maybe it was like a kind
- 41:33of a Berenstain Bear, things that they don't recall the
- 41:36glove. Or something like we all just
- 41:38imagined that. It would have been even cooler
- 41:40if there was no glove. Will they bring back the imagine
- 41:43scene if she. Rebirth she did have like, I
- 41:46mean, it was she had the glove on, but like there were there
- 41:50were little bits getting on her leg.
- 41:52Like she was like kind of, she was hunched down in a weird way
- 41:55and then she was like putting her arm on her knee like some
- 41:57like. There's definitely, there was
- 41:58definitely contamination, yeah. Did you do a poop scene in JP
- 42:04Three? Also something to look forward
- 42:06to for you, Molly. Thank you very much and I do
- 42:09look forward to that do. You remember what they were
- 42:10digging before, OK. You can skip that one, no?
- 42:13It worse one. A good one.
- 42:14JP 3 suck. Worst of watch did not age well.
- 42:18Do you, can you commit to us right now that you're going to
- 42:20watch the rest of the beast? Molly, can you do this for us?
- 42:24What do what? What's my timeline?
- 42:26What's you know? Within the year.
- 42:28Within the year, yeah. OK, I can do that.
- 42:30Nice. You can you can have that and I
- 42:32want a whole friend. I'm not in bed weekend us we.
- 42:35Got a fan? Yeah.
- 42:37Thank you, enjoy. It.
- 42:38I'll promise to JD. I'm not going to promise to you
- 42:41because you know he doesn't. Care because you don't care
- 42:44whether you don't care at all. And thank you for that.
- 42:47OK, Can we talk about the visuals for a minute?
- 42:49I know that we have we're a little split on what we think
- 42:52about the CGI, but I want to talk specifically about how the
- 42:58dinosaurs appear. So I guess there were some
- 43:02scientific advisors that were like, hey, this is what
- 43:05dinosaurs actually look like. And Spielberg was like, thanks,
- 43:08but no thanks. I'm just going to make them kind
- 43:11of how I think they would look good cinematically and I'm cool
- 43:15with that. I don't care if it really looks
- 43:17like what a real dinosaur looked like.
- 43:19Sorry nerds, but that I actually I really thought that they're
- 43:24like herky jerky puppet movements were they seemed like
- 43:29dinosaurs to me. I don't imagine a dinosaur
- 43:32moving with like fluidity. I imagine a dinosaur being kind
- 43:37of herky jerky. I don't.
- 43:38I don't get the herky jerky part, I thought.
- 43:42I know what you mean. Raptors are like looking for the
- 43:45kids and they're like. They kind of move like birds.
- 43:48That's the bird thing. Yeah, that's bird influence.
- 43:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:52In the special features for Jurassic World, they have guys
- 43:56dressed up in blue suits and they have, like a Raptor helmet.
- 44:00And so they're running around and the director keeps telling
- 44:04him to think more like birds, not like a lizard, not like a
- 44:06dog. When you're moving, you want to
- 44:08do the jerky motions like a bird.
- 44:10OK, so, but let me let me just. Direction.
- 44:13Let me just remind you that 2 minutes ago you said I don't get
- 44:17the herky jerky. Well, because I didn't think
- 44:19they moved herky. I thought you were saying like
- 44:20animatronics were herky jerky. Oh, I see.
- 44:23So that's what I was thinking. OK, OK, OK, so.
- 44:27Can I come in on the the Spielberg?
- 44:28You may no the the visuals that is such a key decision by him.
- 44:34Yeah, to be like, fuck what you think they actually look like.
- 44:38I'm making them how I think I'm. Making a history movie.
- 44:41I'm making Jurassic. Park.
- 44:43It's a movie about a theme park. It's a movie about genetically
- 44:47modified dinosaurs. Yeah.
- 44:50Maybe they didn't design them exactly the way that dinosaurs
- 44:54were back then. Maybe they're the frog DNA make
- 44:57some kind of, you know. Exactly, this is the cool part
- 45:00about the whole story is it's not real.
- 45:02It's what our idea is, what Hammond's idea of what a
- 45:06dinosaur was at the time or as the one good part of JP 3 is.
- 45:11Alan Grant is giving a speech. He's a professor and he's
- 45:14talking about his latest book about his terrible experience on
- 45:18Isla Nublar, and to some students that he's like John
- 45:20Hammond's D Extincted monsters are not dinosaurs.
- 45:24That's like, yeah, that's a good point.
- 45:26They're not dinosaurs. They're just like weird bio bio.
- 45:29And that gets brought up with the direwolf whole situation
- 45:34that happened earlier this year. Yeah.
- 45:36Don't mean to date the podcast, but, you know, they're not
- 45:40actual direwolfs, you know? Yeah.
- 45:42Yeah, it's interesting. Interesting shit.
- 45:45Big ideas. It's the best part of this shit.
- 45:47Wait, Speaking of theme parks, have either of you guys been on
- 45:50any of like the Jurassic Park rides at theme parks?
- 45:53Any of the attractions. I think I went to Universal a
- 45:57couple years ago and like five years ago and the Jurassic Park
- 46:01ride had been turned into a King Kong ride because the King Kong
- 46:05movie had just gone or something.
- 46:07So yeah, it didn't get a Jurassic Park at that.
- 46:10Sorry to hear that. I would just go back to the
- 46:13Spielberg making up his own. No, no, I just what because I
- 46:16was saying that he kept wanting to make up dinosaurs.
- 46:19I heard was reading somewhere or listening to something.
- 46:21He kept wanting to just make him up at a whole cloth.
- 46:22And they kept having to be like, no, no, let's actually just have
- 46:25real dinosaurs. But the the dinosaur that spits
- 46:29the venom and has the thing that's that's the only fully
- 46:32just made-up dinosaur. Oh, OK.
- 46:34For Jurassic Park, the that's based it on the name right now,
- 46:39the Brachios. No, not Brachiosaurus.
- 46:41Salivosaurus. It's gonna kill me.
- 46:44That's not it. That's not it.
- 46:45But that would be. Listeners, that's not it.
- 46:47OK, just I love that. Could have been it.
- 46:49We could have all been like, yeah, that was it.
- 46:51Yeah, no, it didn't have. I could have.
- 46:55I did the dinosaur right at Water World.
- 46:58That's like kind of Jurassic, probably.
- 47:00Yeah, that's right. It's Jurassic Park adjacent for
- 47:02sure. Yeah.
- 47:03They're supposed to. Be center Mersevic games else in
- 47:05the 90s. Yeah, there's that riot age.
- 47:07Well, no. No, those really.
- 47:10That one. I remember going on it when I
- 47:12was 10 years old and I was so scared, I cried the whole time.
- 47:18That's a Molly problem, everybody.
- 47:20That's not a, it's not an overall, it's experience of the
- 47:23rifle. Waterworld.
- 47:24It's part of it. It's fun.
- 47:25Awesome. It's really have you ever been
- 47:27on that that toilet bowl thing at Waterworld?
- 47:30OK, that too. Haven't cried, thank God.
- 47:35Waterworld's kids are scared can be traumatic though.
- 47:37Because I was scared? No.
- 47:39No. Because it was so beautiful.
- 47:40I got scared of drowning or like what's the fear?
- 47:43Yeah, it was like scared of drowning, scared of small
- 47:45spaces, you know, I feel like it's pretty.
- 47:49I mean, this is a scary movie. To recreate something like that,
- 47:54it should be scary. A 10 year old should cry, right?
- 47:58You know. Spielberg walk to fine light
- 48:00because it is a scary movie, it's a horror movie, it's.
- 48:04An action movie. I I think Spielberg would argue
- 48:07it's a horror. And he says the fifth one is
- 48:09like the most horror movie. And I watch it and I'm like.
- 48:12This is, Yeah. What if I was listening to the
- 48:14director talking? Yeah, it's.
- 48:15It is maybe a thriller. Maybe they have all.
- 48:19These Dino deaths, I mean, these are monster kills, but Spielberg
- 48:23walks that line. So finally you don't get scared.
- 48:26I was scared I had. Yeah, as a child you might be
- 48:28scared yet. Nightmare or last night way?
- 48:308 nightmare is that it was like a chasing I I think it's because
- 48:35like the did you say I'm a child at heart yeah and thank you so
- 48:38much for that. I I had AI had a dream that I
- 48:42was like being chased through the airport.
- 48:44And I think that it's because of like, you know, all the chasing
- 48:48and from this movie. Was it Raptors or T rex's?
- 48:50Don't remember all, I remember Raptors.
- 48:53Are running probably Raptors, Yeah, they're famously fast.
- 48:56Fast, fast. That'd be a good scene in a
- 49:00Jurassic Park movie, going into an airport and you're running to
- 49:03get on the plane. I mean, that was kind of
- 49:06anxious. Grabs, grabs your plane and
- 49:08goes. Yeah, just like Tom Cruise and
- 49:13Mission Impossible, it's holding on to the side of the plane.
- 49:16Just like that. But it's a Raptor.
- 49:17But it could be a Raptor anyway, so don't want to give Hollywood
- 49:22any free ideas, am I right? I see you looking at your notes,
- 49:26JD. What do you got on your mind?
- 49:28I mean, I, you know, I just had some thoughts.
- 49:30I didn't want to make sure I didn't leave anything out.
- 49:32Well, I love that Buster Keaton esque scene where the the
- 49:38explorers falling down from the tree and Timmy and Grant are
- 49:43trying to get down and it's so when it falls over, you know,
- 49:46they dodge it or that whatever they don't get hurt by going
- 49:49into where the sunroof would have been.
- 49:52Yeah, and they make it out alive.
- 49:55I don't know how a better way to explain that scene to anybody.
- 49:58I don't think there's a more elegant.
- 50:00Way you guys. Yeah, it's classic Spielberg.
- 50:04Paul doesn't. Remember that scene?
- 50:06I could see his face. He's like, I'm just going to
- 50:09change the subject. No, I know what you're talking
- 50:13about. I've seen Jurassic Park.
- 50:15He's. Seen it?
- 50:17I thought that was a great scene and it was an homage to, you
- 50:19know, film classics, which is something Spielberg does quite a
- 50:23bit and a lot of Indiana Jones stuff.
- 50:25You know what I wish that he did kind of give a little homage to
- 50:30is, you know, in John Hughes movies where like if someone
- 50:33gets electrocuted, they it's like a skeleton, you know what I
- 50:37mean? I wish that when when little
- 50:40Timmy is electrocuted that we would have just got a little
- 50:45flash of his skeleton. I thought would have been so
- 50:48funny. It's not very Spielberg, but it
- 50:51would have been funny. Getting that home alone.
- 50:54Yeah, home alone, too. Lost in New York.
- 50:56They do a scene where that happens.
- 50:57It's very funny. It's very funny.
- 50:59Paul, can you check it out with Sattler that into Grant, do you
- 51:04think? I think that they were, you
- 51:06know, partners in science, partners in life.
- 51:08I felt like they were. Partners in life.
- 51:11Yeah. Spoiler they don't stay
- 51:12together. Oh, and I guess partners for
- 51:16now. Partners.
- 51:17For now, I feel like they've been together in the film like
- 51:20probably a couple of years. Oh, I think longer.
- 51:22I think a decade, yeah. Decade.
- 51:24Yeah. Wow.
- 51:26People who are very established in their, you know, there wasn't
- 51:29a lot of romance, which is why she got so hot for that moment
- 51:33of the chaos theory. You know, she's like, no one's
- 51:36touched my hair like that in years.
- 51:39But I do think that they were like they were in love.
- 51:43I do think that they, well, maybe not in I think they loved
- 51:45each other. But maybe not in love, huh?
- 51:48Maybe. Well, now that I know.
- 51:50Now that I know that they did end up.
- 51:53Another why you have to watch JP three if they establish where
- 51:56they all are and why they're not together.
- 51:59Sure goes off and she has kids with another man.
- 52:01Wow. And then once.
- 52:03He didn't want kids, yeah, but he had that he can't give up to
- 52:07do. It's like the one arc.
- 52:08Those kids that he liked him, I don't think he liked kids.
- 52:12He went he trauma bonded with these kids specifically.
- 52:15I don't know. I think that we were supposed to
- 52:17see it as an arc for him. You know I.
- 52:19Think so because I'm sorry, am I boring?
- 52:23Huge yon by apologist to the listeners.
- 52:26It was very subtle and I am so sorry.
- 52:29That was a dinosaur roar that was roaring like AT Rex.
- 52:32Yeah, put that in in post. Yeah, we'll put that in post.
- 52:38Nick Jacob put that in. So what was I saying?
- 52:43I'm we're talking about the love of Sattler and Grella.
- 52:46Love that. Died Shoot.
- 52:50There's a great love story in the Hughes, or I mean the Howard
- 52:53trilogy. Oh yeah, the Howard Pratt love
- 52:55story. That's part of why I like JW.
- 52:58One Jurassic World is there's kissing at the end.
- 53:00Oh. I see why he's kissing like in
- 53:02the middle, yeah. It's good.
- 53:04It's good. This.
- 53:05Is in the middle just for the listener?
- 53:07What? They don't kiss at the end, they
- 53:08kiss in the middle. There's kissing in the, there's
- 53:10kissing in it. There's folks, there's kissing
- 53:13in the movie. It's good.
- 53:14Yeah. And it's nice to have romance.
- 53:17I I felt like the first movie, that's maybe the one thing that
- 53:19it was missing. I, I like that it didn't have
- 53:21romance. I like that it was about, you
- 53:25know, making sure that the kids were OK, that it was about, you
- 53:30know, friendship, respect. I don't know.
- 53:33I just, I'm glad that I didn't really need a romantic subplot.
- 53:37Thank God they have so many other Jurassic Park movies to
- 53:41get to give us that. But in this one, I think
- 53:43especially because we had, like, a token woman, I'm glad that her
- 53:47purpose was not just like, the hour.
- 53:49This is a romantic subplot. If there was a romantic
- 53:55storyline, I do think it might be between Robert Muldoon, the
- 53:58game warden of Jurassic Park, and the Velociraptor. 100%,
- 54:05absolutely OK. What does that look like, JD?
- 54:08What is that relationship like? OK, you saw shape of.
- 54:10Wire whack. We'll just say that, yes.
- 54:13So, well, Dune lying in the forest, they're spooning.
- 54:17They're in. The yeah, when we didn't see a
- 54:19body. Yeah, you did.
- 54:24You did. No, because that's what the fuck
- 54:27Spielberg does so good. He like, covers it up with like
- 54:29a leaf or like some kind of branch so you don't see them
- 54:32actually killing. You see it shaking, but you
- 54:35don't see the death. And that's why he rides that
- 54:36line. It can be PG13, but these crazy
- 54:40deaths are happening. Yeah, monsters are eating people
- 54:43alive. That's not horrifying to you
- 54:45guys. OK, yeah, but the fact that it's
- 54:48not really shown explicitly makes it not a horror movie.
- 54:53It's an action thriller. OK.
- 54:55All right. Don't you think there's an
- 54:57action thriller? What genre would you say this
- 54:59movie is? Science fiction sci-fi thriller.
- 55:03Sci-fi thriller? Yeah.
- 55:06OK, OK. It was scary to me.
- 55:09Look I also just because you're scared in a movie doesn't make
- 55:13it horror. Oh, oh what?
- 55:16About that brought. Out.
- 55:18This is freaking Hedy. What?
- 55:19Is it next to you then? A thriller.
- 55:23OK, OK. You're, you're thinking about
- 55:25what section you go to at the Blockbuster.
- 55:28Yeah, not how you feel internally about it.
- 55:31Yeah, yeah. I don't think that like How I'm
- 55:34feeling defines the genre of the movie.
- 55:38Well, I agree to disagree, you know.
- 55:41OK, no no comment on this is between you 2 all.
- 55:45Right. Whatever.
- 55:46Enjoy. No idea.
- 55:49That's funny. You really agey.
- 55:50Ask a philosopher. I don't know.
- 55:52It doesn't matter to me what the genre is.
- 55:54Dino Action. Dino Action.
- 55:56Which is not what he comes for. He comes for the sci-fi nerd
- 55:59stuff. Yeah, it's been in our last
- 56:01episode and I'll say to the listeners here say.
- 56:03It again. I'll, I'll say it loud and proud
- 56:05from the tallest mountaintops. Yeah, the dinosaurs are the
- 56:09worst part of Jurassic Park. What?
- 56:15What? Enjoy.
- 56:16That's my take. All of.
- 56:18The yeah, typing to the worst. There's those one scene at the
- 56:21end of JW 6, AKA JW 3 Dominion, where there's some fucking
- 56:28dinosaurs that are fighting and then Grant and like this, the
- 56:32whole cast from the whole series, they're all back
- 56:34together. They run away from the Dinos and
- 56:36then Grant's like, it's not about us.
- 56:39And I'm like, yeah, the fucking dinosaur fighting each other.
- 56:43That's not about the humans. That which is what I care about.
- 56:46That's what I can relate to. Yeah, I don't it doesn't it?
- 56:49The dinosaurs are just there to be a threat.
- 56:52So although you identify more as a Raptor than AT Rex, you you
- 56:57really would say you're more of a of a people guy.
- 57:03Yeah, I mean it's nailed it. T Rex Raptor above that and then
- 57:07human. Yeah, that's what I would
- 57:09identify as it relate to. Yeah, it for sure.
- 57:11When you see this movie, you say, I see myself in, you would
- 57:15say a human. One of the one of the humans.
- 57:17Yeah, and that's interesting. What about you?
- 57:20I What do I see? Myself, yeah.
- 57:21Do you see yourself more as a human or dinosaur when you watch
- 57:25this movie? No.
- 57:27And it's got to go, you know, as a human.
- 57:29OK, Identify with the human jam OK, but I'm hungry a lot, you
- 57:33know, sometimes I'm just out there looking for my next meal
- 57:36and for. A.
- 57:37Snack. Yeah, I do love sometimes I go
- 57:39shark eyes when I see, you know, ice cream in the water.
- 57:42Yeah. But I was something we ask on
- 57:45the podcast, Would you go to Jurassic Park?
- 57:46If it was a real thing and you could go there?
- 57:48Would you go there? No.
- 57:50No, of course not. None of none of the people are
- 57:52dying. Got out.
- 57:54No, I would not go OK, I would say that.
- 57:57Yeah, you're crying at water parks so.
- 57:59You're already, you're already scared.
- 58:01I'm a wimp. OK, That was I want to remind
- 58:04the listeners I was 10. OK, you haven't gone back.
- 58:08So water? No, I've been back since then.
- 58:11OK, that didn't cry. But you didn't enjoy it?
- 58:12Yeah, OK. You enjoyed it more now.
- 58:14Of course. Yeah, Cool.
- 58:15I really love theme parks. I love roller coasters.
- 58:18I like the thrill of being scared at a theme park.
- 58:22Now. When I was a kid, I was big old
- 58:25wimp. Yeah, I hated roller coasters as
- 58:27well. Can I drop a little truth bomb
- 58:29on the group here? How many people die in Jurassic
- 58:32Park? The first one.
- 58:34Yeah. How many?
- 58:35We got one in the beginning. Are we assuming Sam Jackson?
- 58:37'S dense. Yeah, we have to assume that all
- 58:40the people who are presumed dead or dead.
- 58:43OK, OK, We're not gonna get into this.
- 58:45Oh, I didn't see the body so it doesn't count.
- 58:47OK, but what I the guy at the beginning he counts the.
- 58:51Worker. Yeah, yeah, there's the worker,
- 58:52There's the lawyer. Samuel Jackson Muldoon.
- 58:56Muldoon. Did we say it's a lawyer
- 58:58already? Yeah, OK.
- 59:00There's. That might be it.
- 59:03No, because I didn't count Nedri.
- 59:07Nedri. Yeah.
- 59:08Oh, Nedri, yeah, for sure. So it's like 5.
- 59:12I think it's. Ten, 5:00-ish.
- 59:14Five that you see on screen. The number of people that have
- 59:16died at Disney World is 64. Well, yeah, because Disney
- 59:21World's been around a long time. That was 5 people in one day.
- 59:24OK, all right. Disney World, also 3.
- 59:27People die on rise? Or did they die just of natural
- 59:31causes and they happened to be a Disney?
- 59:33World, that's a different podcast.
- 59:34You know, and I feel like someone got a heat stroke and
- 59:37they happened to be a Disney World.
- 59:38Does that count toward the death toll of Disney World?
- 59:40Should but. They're all in the spinning
- 59:42teacups, actually. All 64.
- 59:45Those things are killers, yeah. That'd be a crazy podcast to do
- 59:49to researching all the deaths that have happened at
- 59:51Disneyland. I'm sure someone's doing it.
- 59:53That's crazy. I'm curious, what do we call?
- 59:55It how it happened. You call it.
- 59:57It's a small world after. All.
- 59:58There you go, Call it. Finds a way.
- 1:00:02Mickey Mickey's murder house. The happiest place on Earth
- 1:00:05question mark. Yeah, these are all good.
- 1:00:07These are all going. You got you got the touch right
- 1:00:10now. These are good.
- 1:00:11I love it. Thank you.
- 1:00:13Thank you. What else?
- 1:00:14What else do you have on on your lips?
- 1:00:17That's pretty much all them. I think it's, I think we hit all
- 1:00:20the the big ones. I wanted to hit, yeah.
- 1:00:24What about that brand of ice cream that that's melting, that
- 1:00:28Hammond is eating in that case? Like the shake?
- 1:00:30Jugs, this is oh, what's that? Because in the book he's always
- 1:00:35talking about his chef that he's got on the island and the chef
- 1:00:38has made a ginger ice cream that he keeps trying to get everybody
- 1:00:41to eat. And so I think that was a little
- 1:00:44nod to it because he's, you know, the the electricity is
- 1:00:46down at this point. So he takes healthy ice cream
- 1:00:49out of the freezer and he's just like eating tubs of it.
- 1:00:51Totally. And then Laura Dern even says
- 1:00:53it's good. He was.
- 1:00:54So he was. He was.
- 1:00:55So annoying about the Chilean sea bass.
- 1:00:57And he's like, let's go have lunch.
- 1:00:58We're going to have Chilean sea bass.
- 1:00:59I was like, shut up, grandpa, we know what's for lunch, OK?
- 1:01:05A Nosh fan, yeah. In general.
- 1:01:08In general, yeah. You don't like eating fish from
- 1:01:10Colorado Landlocked Say, baby I've known Michaela for.
- 1:01:13Years. I've never known this about you.
- 1:01:15Have you ever made ginger ice cream?
- 1:01:17No no, I have been making a bunch of ice cream recently and.
- 1:01:20This is a great topic for JD, yeah.
- 1:01:23This is Bay for Jimmy. I mean, I love it again, but no,
- 1:01:26ginger ginger's not wouldn't be my go to.
- 1:01:29Not a big ginger fan. And then it's like, did you make
- 1:01:31a spicy ginger or how do you just?
- 1:01:33Add well. Ginger is spicy.
- 1:01:36I don't know how you can make. I don't know how white you are,
- 1:01:39but Ginger's spicy, Yeah. Sometimes you eat like a ginger
- 1:01:46candy or something and you get like more of a spice to it.
- 1:01:49So if you have like a, you know, pickled ginger on your on your
- 1:01:54sushi, well, you certainly on your Walmart sushi.
- 1:01:56Pickled ginger or your ice cream?
- 1:01:58I don't know if you know about that, but.
- 1:02:01You know about that? About pickled ginger I.
- 1:02:04Think in ice. You know that you should.
- 1:02:05I don't want to go too crazy with that.
- 1:02:07I'm not going for these artisanal flavors.
- 1:02:09OK, OK. I want to.
- 1:02:10I'm not waiting. You know, I'm not Hammond.
- 1:02:12Only the richest people can come to this.
- 1:02:15You get this ice cream. You said when you're eating JD's
- 1:02:18ice cream, it's coupon day. Hello.
- 1:02:22I want everybody to be able to experience and have a good time,
- 1:02:24yeah. You give us a tease.
- 1:02:26What's the signature flavor that you're cooking up?
- 1:02:29I was just saying I've got perfected this custard base,
- 1:02:32vanilla custard base that takes 7 egg yolks in it and it's the
- 1:02:36caviar, yeah. So yeah, yeah, it's a so not
- 1:02:42Paul. You had some.
- 1:02:43You liked it. I did like it.
- 1:02:45Paulser only liked the trash flavors.
- 1:02:47He just like put cookies in there.
- 1:02:49OK, what's going to happen to your ice cream ingredients with
- 1:02:52the tariffs? I mean, that's what I may tell,
- 1:02:55you know, again, I didn't vote for him.
- 1:02:57So, you know, wow. You did.
- 1:03:01Paul did twice. Oh yeah.
- 1:03:04I think I'm about four or five times I voted for a man, I keep
- 1:03:07voting for him. The egg prices have been really
- 1:03:12affecting my ice cream intake, my homemade ice cream.
- 1:03:16So that's just how politics have affected me, guys, yeah.
- 1:03:20Wow, yeah, wow stuff. So vanilla custard base.
- 1:03:26It's delicious. Yeah.
- 1:03:28Basic ingredients You know the best of creams.
- 1:03:32What was the? Question.
- 1:03:33It was just that was the shit scene.
- 1:03:34That was another scene that struck me on this rewatch.
- 1:03:36Was like, he's sitting across from Laura Dern.
- 1:03:39He's eating the ice cream. He's clearly eating his feelings
- 1:03:42around the anxiety about your like, feeling kind of fade in,
- 1:03:45failing. You know, like the world is
- 1:03:48ending, I can't do anything but eat ice cream kind of thing, you
- 1:03:51know? And I was thinking about it, I
- 1:03:53was watching this and I was like, you don't have to eat the
- 1:03:56ice cream though. Like it's OK if let it out.
- 1:03:59It's it's OK. Well, yeah, it's like it would
- 1:04:01go to waste. Yeah, you could also enjoy it
- 1:04:03before it melts. He's like, he's like, look.
- 1:04:07His grandkids are dead either way.
- 1:04:09This could be the last day of my life.
- 1:04:12On the book it. Was he?
- 1:04:14Oh oh. Really.
- 1:04:15He dies in the book. You don't need to read the
- 1:04:16spoilers. You don't need to read it OK.
- 1:04:18Do you like that he dies in the book?
- 1:04:20Yes, because I feel like he gets what's coming to him.
- 1:04:23Yeah, because he is a villain. I prefer the movie ending for
- 1:04:27him. You prefer him being a complex,
- 1:04:30Yeah, character that he gets redeemed?
- 1:04:32Yeah. OK, yeah, yeah, sure.
- 1:04:36But that brand of ice cream, I never eat that brand anymore.
- 1:04:38That was always like a a school brand to me, exactly like very
- 1:04:4290s ginger. It was like plain tubs.
- 1:04:44No, like the the the brand, well, the flavor there's.
- 1:04:47No brand, isn't it. It was just.
- 1:04:49Associated as kind of like a generic with no cost, low
- 1:04:52quality tub. Bear no expense, baby.
- 1:04:54That's a good quality ice cream just in a container.
- 1:04:57It's a resort. They got a store in a different
- 1:04:59way. It's not little.
- 1:05:00It's not little pints of fucking Ben and Jerry's.
- 1:05:02So he's got 80 million pints of banana, no?
- 1:05:06Expense. Yeah, I'm just saying, I thought
- 1:05:09that everyone should have had their own personal English.
- 1:05:12Just putting your own judgments on these tubs of ice.
- 1:05:14Cream. Great quality ice cream in the
- 1:05:16tubs that normally shitty ice cream comes in.
- 1:05:20That's what I think. Ice cream plays OK.
- 1:05:22That's how you make it. You have to store it somehow.
- 1:05:24Yeah, OK. But it wasn't like ice cream
- 1:05:27store sized tubs. It was, it was elementary school
- 1:05:30field trip. It was like tub, Yeah, that's
- 1:05:32what I'm saying. It's like a gallon tank.
- 1:05:34It's. Different it's a specific type
- 1:05:37of tub. I'm on you.
- 1:05:38I'm what we're. We know the tubs.
- 1:05:41We got it as when you go into any artisanal ice cream place,
- 1:05:44they have tubs of ice creams in the display case.
- 1:05:46They're just you don't see it. We know.
- 1:05:49That's the basic tub, I'm just saying.
- 1:05:51That you're saying it's cheap ice?
- 1:05:53Cream. It looks like a good type of.
- 1:05:59It looks like they went to Costco.
- 1:06:01OK, that's all I'm saying. Or like even like.
- 1:06:05I don't even know where you get the tubs but it looks like
- 1:06:07restaurants. Industrial like fucking
- 1:06:10restaurant places, yeah. All right, all right.
- 1:06:13Sorry, it's not stainless steel tub.
- 1:06:16I don't need it to. Be it's like that wouldn't look
- 1:06:18like what the bear would look like if it was on the bear it'd
- 1:06:20be different yeah it's a famous cooking show on the bear takes
- 1:06:24place the bear I've. Heard about the bear?
- 1:06:27I've heard about the bear. Yeah, guys.
- 1:06:32Wow. Wow, you guys, some people, I
- 1:06:34think these these these things don't matter, but I think they
- 1:06:40do yeah, the details, the. Details.
- 1:06:43It's all in the details. For sure that's and Spielberg
- 1:06:46would have wanted us to be arguing about this today.
- 1:06:49He wouldn't have put it in on screen if he didn't think it
- 1:06:51mattered. Yep.
- 1:06:53This was his intention. Let's go back to your idea that
- 1:06:56he didn't actually have to eat the ice cream.
- 1:06:59I don't think he was trying to finish the ice cream.
- 1:07:02I don't think that he was like, no drop can go this way is a
- 1:07:05great thing. I think it was more like he is
- 1:07:07so helpless all he can. Yeah, you're looking for
- 1:07:09comfort. We're.
- 1:07:10Yeah. I'm sorry you only find comfort
- 1:07:12in ice cream it. Would make me sick to eat that
- 1:07:14much ice cream? He's not going to eat the whole.
- 1:07:16Thing I don't have nobody got help doing.
- 1:07:18The whole thing, sampling each one.
- 1:07:19I don't think that we're meant to believe that this elderly man
- 1:07:23is eating to the bottom of a gallon tub.
- 1:07:26Of that's what you think if you're opening it, you got to
- 1:07:28eat all of it. That's just.
- 1:07:29Like, not even going to be good if you take them all out,
- 1:07:31they're all going to get melty at the same rate you're going to
- 1:07:34get if you wanted to enjoy the ice cream.
- 1:07:37Well, yeah, but if you keep it in the fridge even if the fridge
- 1:07:39doesn't. Get powder not going.
- 1:07:42If it's not about it, I don't know.
- 1:07:44He doesn't have any advice to show us the futility of the
- 1:07:48situation. He's like.
- 1:07:50It's a metaphor. Imminent I just what am I to do
- 1:07:55except try to enjoy this thing that will inevitably melt and
- 1:08:01become bad, you know? I guess I see, such is life.
- 1:08:04I guess I see and life. Wow, Oh my fucking God.
- 1:08:09Free and Lord during grabs A whipped cream container, blast
- 1:08:12it in her mouth, walks away, tricks it on the wall and she's
- 1:08:15getting high. We gotta go.
- 1:08:16I love it. Blast these guy.
- 1:08:18Really. Should have done is whippets.
- 1:08:20That was a cutscene. Yeah.
- 1:08:21She did a couple whippets before she went on.
- 1:08:23Yeah, You know, electricity battle.
- 1:08:24On 90s party drugs, we just. We missed them all.
- 1:08:27Life finds a way. Hammond finds a pint.
- 1:08:30Come on. More like a gallon, am I right?
- 1:08:34Yeah. OK.
- 1:08:35Well, we didn't really cover what each like for each of you.
- 1:08:39Like, what is your history with Jurassic Park?
- 1:08:42Like what impression did this movie make on you as a kid?
- 1:08:46What role does it play in your life now other than content for
- 1:08:48a podcast? Everything's content, baby.
- 1:08:52All right? We got to mine every experience
- 1:08:54we've ever had in life. You.
- 1:08:55Recently read a book about the. Sequel I was I was trying to
- 1:08:59give you some tips to Gin. Now you just keep throwing it in
- 1:09:01my face. I'm not making fun of you, I'm
- 1:09:03saying you read. Thank you, I listen to it in
- 1:09:07audio. Yeah, that's reading.
- 1:09:08OK, thanks reading. I appreciate it.
- 1:09:12Yeah, I listen to this book called YouTube Secrets and what
- 1:09:16were we also were saying? What's your relationship?
- 1:09:19Yeah. What's your relationship to this
- 1:09:20movie? And we're so we're in.
- 1:09:22We were like four or five when it came out.
- 1:09:25I saw in a VHS tape, probably rented in a blockbuster.
- 1:09:29Got it from the sci-fi thriller section.
- 1:09:32Not from the horror section. No, I didn't go in the horror
- 1:09:34section too. Scary.
- 1:09:35It lived in the horror section in my mind.
- 1:09:38The blockbuster of your mind? Yeah.
- 1:09:40I loved. It, I loved it so much, loved
- 1:09:43it, loved dinosaurs, wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a
- 1:09:45kid, of course, and then completely forgot about it and
- 1:09:48like, saw some of most of the movies.
- 1:09:50Yeah. And it didn't matter to me at
- 1:09:52all as an adult. I really like JP three growing
- 1:09:54up I had the VHSI remember watching him being like this is
- 1:09:56good. I don't know why people are
- 1:09:58shooting on it. There's a much more capable
- 1:10:00child in there, you know, and good story.
- 1:10:04He likes to see capable children.
- 1:10:06Oh yeah, when you're. A child you identify, you're
- 1:10:08like, could I survive on this island like this kid?
- 1:10:11Do you think that you could have?
- 1:10:13Yes, OK, I would have found a water tank just like that kid
- 1:10:17did with JP. Three life finds.
- 1:10:19Yeah, way I. Remember all that ice?
- 1:10:22Cream JD. He is a black belt and karate.
- 1:10:24That is true and that would help with Raptors I think.
- 1:10:27What would your move be? Raptors coming at you?
- 1:10:29You're going down your stance. Raptors like.
- 1:10:32All right, I have thought about. This.
- 1:10:34I've heard that it was like a seal, isn't it?
- 1:10:36Isn't it a seal? I saw all the movies recently, I
- 1:10:40don't remember at all this. Sorry, my cane fell.
- 1:10:43I don't remember. Do I have the cane?
- 1:10:45No, yeah, not. Amit, Yeah.
- 1:10:48So what's your move? You're going.
- 1:10:50You're certainly a Raptors coming after me, OK, it's coming
- 1:10:53in close. It's coming in all right at me.
- 1:10:55All right. So what I'm going to do is I'm
- 1:10:58going to assume my. You.
- 1:11:01Got to dance. Yeah.
- 1:11:02So it's I'm going to come in close.
- 1:11:04I've got to wrap my arms around it because it's definitely, you
- 1:11:06know, it's coming after me. You're I'm going to do a.
- 1:11:08Judo throw to get your arms around.
- 1:11:10It well, it's, it's already in, you know, I'm inside, I'm
- 1:11:13inside. It's, it's, you know, it's reach
- 1:11:14here. Oh, OK.
- 1:11:16OK, get around the. Clock trying to you're not going
- 1:11:18to be able to get a full connection around it.
- 1:11:20I don't too big. Because I don't need to.
- 1:11:21Because what I need to do is get under its center of gravity at
- 1:11:24this point. OK, I'm going to use my hips,
- 1:11:26all right? I'm coming around.
- 1:11:27Should I get up to do a visual thing for this or yeah, I don't
- 1:11:30know if it's. Going to be caught in the frame
- 1:11:32but OK. Well, I mean, so you guys have
- 1:11:34to picture this. OK, I'm getting in for a judo
- 1:11:36throw called Osoto gadi. OK, I'm I get on, it's under of
- 1:11:41gravity, all right? I push up with my hips because
- 1:11:43you don't need a lot, you just need to get a little.
- 1:11:46I like to think at this point I do have a good wrestling grip on
- 1:11:50one of its arms, so I can throw off its center of gravity.
- 1:11:53OK, And that's all you need, all right, to get its leg up.
- 1:11:56And I sweep the leg, take around OK, all right, I got to make
- 1:12:00sure I clear these claw legs, OK?
- 1:12:02So I I got to throw hard, OK, putting my body weight into it,
- 1:12:06OK. And I, I know a lot of people be
- 1:12:08like, you go to the ground with it, OK?
- 1:12:10No, I'm letting go at a certain point, OK, But I'm keeping hold
- 1:12:13with my other arm. What are you holding onto at
- 1:12:15this point? I'm holding onto its arm.
- 1:12:17I got, I got an under the pig grip.
- 1:12:18I'm like right here. OK, OK, OK.
- 1:12:21I got a good grip or I try and get away.
- 1:12:23I'm I'm struggling for his life right now.
- 1:12:25Everybody just so to lift my Raptor frame here.
- 1:12:30Yeah, hopefully, you know, you get get it done before it Maybe
- 1:12:33you get a get a good, you know, Panther pod to the the throat to
- 1:12:38get it, you know, keep it from it's a move.
- 1:12:43It's a specific type of this is a Panther pod, right?
- 1:12:48OK, OK, anyway, I'm a I'm a martial arts expert.
- 1:12:51Just so you can, I have my black belt in American Kempo and so
- 1:12:55OK, so I got it on the ground. I didn't follow it down.
- 1:12:58OK, I got it off the ground. All right.
- 1:13:00And then I go in for an arm bar. Boom, God, break the arm.
- 1:13:05OK, but most people think you lay down with it.
- 1:13:07You know you fall that. That is the common way to go.
- 1:13:09About holding the arm still all right the the Raptors on the
- 1:13:12ground at. This point.
- 1:13:13Still. And I just push my hips through,
- 1:13:16break the arm, walk away. All right.
- 1:13:19Classic. So you're saying it with a
- 1:13:21broken a broken arm is really going to take it down?
- 1:13:24I mean, enough for me to get away.
- 1:13:25A lot of it's just trying to get away.
- 1:13:26You're not trying to engage with self-defense, OK?
- 1:13:28A lot of it's just doing what you need to do to get away.
- 1:13:30Yeah. All right.
- 1:13:32I don't want to mansplain self-defense to you part.
- 1:13:37Was a pretty good man. That was awesome when you
- 1:13:39freaked out on that Raptor. I'll show you how.
- 1:13:40I'll show you guys on Paul when we're done here.
- 1:13:43OK, guys, you. Have to get Patreon.
- 1:13:45That's for the Patreon. I know that's gated con joy.
- 1:13:47Great. Wow, you guys wow.
- 1:13:53So. So Needless to say, it made an
- 1:13:55impression. How would you do it?
- 1:13:59What defend against a Raptor? Oh no, I'd be dead.
- 1:14:02OK. Yeah, I'd take the Raptor's
- 1:14:04claw, and I'd say if a butterfly flapped its ear, do.
- 1:14:08You punch in space really gently.
- 1:14:10Oh yeah, you bought its air. Yeah, you start growling at it.
- 1:14:13Yeah, I learned recently that dinosaurs actually have lips,
- 1:14:16and I might want to do a little. Research might want to do an old
- 1:14:19racer, he said. He likes when they kiss.
- 1:14:22You know he likes the kiss thing.
- 1:14:24Just a little bit of kiss. You know, what is actually
- 1:14:26pretty funny is that Malcolm talks about his kids like,
- 1:14:30they're just like, I don't know, friends or pets who's like,
- 1:14:33yeah, I love kids. Got a couple, got some of my
- 1:14:35own. Yeah, he does.
- 1:14:37Yeah. See one of them in our next
- 1:14:38movie. He's just kind of like, the way
- 1:14:40that he talks about them is like, oh, I'm so fond of kids,
- 1:14:43you know, rather than like, I have.
- 1:14:46Like the? Reality, they are like reality
- 1:14:48of kids. He's like, yeah, yeah, they're
- 1:14:49so cool. How much do you think this
- 1:14:52Rockstar mathematician is in his kids lives?
- 1:14:56He's got multiple ex wives. Yeah.
- 1:14:59He's not sticking around. No, he's like chaos theory baby.
- 1:15:02I got to go. He said.
- 1:15:05I live with the chaos. Like what does chaos theory
- 1:15:08mean? He's like, I think you or I
- 1:15:10can't explain it. No one can.
- 1:15:11He's like, you know how you never see me?
- 1:15:13It's kind of like that. Yeah, I mean he stick around for
- 1:15:16a couple days, whatever, you're impregnated, I'm out.
- 1:15:19Yeah, chaos theory, Eric, Chaos theory.
- 1:15:23Because life does find a way. You guys, thank you so much for
- 1:15:26coming on the pod. Is there anything else that we

- 1:15:44lot of work into those videos, OK.
- 1:15:45I do all the editing. I'm, you know, the one man
- 1:15:47producer over here. Paul shows up and does the pods
- 1:15:50and. Paul shows up.
- 1:15:52He does he. Does a great job.
- 1:15:54Yeah, thank you. No, believe it.
- 1:15:55And I believe, and I know that that is actually what happens,
- 1:15:58but it did sound a little bit shady when you said Paul shows
- 1:16:00up. Yeah, I get a little, I get a
- 1:16:02little. You know, it's hard the way you
- 1:16:04smash that like button, everybody.
- 1:16:07The way he took down that Raptor a minute ago, that's how he
- 1:16:09takes down all that raw audio. Oh my God, so true.
