Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the UGC Industry Podcast, the show that brings creators, brands, and everyone building the UGC space into one conversation.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm Brandon Hean, and each week I sit down with the people shaping this industry, from creators landing brand deals to the founders and agencies behind them.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: On this episode, we have Tyler Schaefer.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Tyler has made over$116,000 in his first seven months on Tribe while working a full-time job, which he finally just put his two weeks in for.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: So I know everyone is stoked to hear about that.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Welcome, Tyler.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Glad to be on here, man.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: This is epic.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, super stoked to have you.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Now I know the question that everyone wants to know is you were also working a full-time job while you had this huge run-up on tribe, and that's the situation that most people are in.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Most people don't have the luxury to jump into UGC full-time and have to do it while they have a job.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: How have you been able to put out so much quality volume on Tribe while also having a nine to five?
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So my nine to five is work from home four days out of the five.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: You've worked corporate before, you're not busy every waking hour.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: It gave me the opportunity to essentially just spam tribe submissions when I wasn't doing the corporate work.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: And obviously, I was doing it before work and after work as well.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Because after I got my first payment, I was just like, wow, there's some serious opportunity here.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: So why not just kind of go after it all the time?
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Do you structure your day or do you just kind of wing it?
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I really just wing, and I know people aren't gonna like that answer because they're always asking me, what's your framework?
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: What's your workflow?
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Most days I don't even know when I'm filming what when I wake up for the most part.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: It's just obviously with corporate, it was dependent on how busy I was over there was to what I would do for UGC.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: But now that that's starting to come to an end, I'm probably gonna try to find more of like a framework in a day-to-day structure.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: But as of right now, it's really just kind of fill my 10 videos with the ideas that kind of just come from the head.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: People always want the secret hack or the framework or the next tool.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Guys, at the end of the day, it's hard work and things become easier over time.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: You get into flow.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: I think, especially when people are new to UGC, there's this huge resistance to even get going because you just don't know what to do that breaks down over time as you get going.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: I feel like the best UGC creators are the ones that just figure it out on the fly.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And so I'm curious.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So you wake up even without scripts?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Are you and are you just freestyling all your videos?
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Or what are you doing in terms of it?
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for the most part.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I like it's funny, I'll get ideas randomly throughout the day and I'll kind of use those for hooks or bodies.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: But I've been a lot of the brands I'm with now, I've been with for a really long time.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So I don't really need to, I don't really feel the need to script.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm someone who is really good at just kind of riffing on the spot, which I learned not everybody does.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Um I guess that's kind of like my UGC superpower to an extent.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Like I'm not really diving into AI and like giving it telling it to give me scripts.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I can usually just figure it out as like Yeah, that makes sense.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And what about testing formats?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And for the viewers, basically what a format is is it's different styles of UGC videos.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So it could be directly talking to the camera, it could be a green screen or a skit.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Do you plan how you do those or what does that look like?
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, so I'll kind of like as of especially recently, I've been weaving green screens in and out of every single clip.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: It won't be fully green screen the whole time.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll start talking head, and then if I want to show something specific, I'll pump it up into a green screen, and then I can do voiceover overlays.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: For some uh products, yes, full green screen, but I kind of just like to test everything because you never know what's gonna work at the end of the day.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: And so I want to rewind to how you even got started into UGC.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: How did you discover UGC?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Dude, this is one of the funniest and best parts of the story.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I just followed Colin Reich, who had he was on this show not too long ago.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Um I I just followed him for fitness content and I thought he had good stuff.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: He's like super polarizing and was pretty funny.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And you literally posted on Instagram one day and was like, make money from your phone for free just by joining this Discord.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: And this was like, this was obviously back in February.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And this was essentially the birthplace of V Squad, which is now UGC Club.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: So I joined there and and it was still free at the time.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: And then they brought in the uh elite version, which was I think like 75 bucks a month or something at the time.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Um and I I kind of just saw the vision and was like, I really don't have anything to lose.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: I have this full-time job, why not try to add this on and see what happens?
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: And that's just kind of where my UGC journey started because February, like I didn't even start posting on Instagram consistently until I started my new fitness page, which was in December.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: So I was like very fresh to content.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Like UGC was not I had no idea what it was at all.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: So had you been looking for ways to make money outside of your job?
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: I I actually had a second job serving, waiting tables, and as soon as I started seeing like the tiniest bit of momentum on UGC, I was like, oh dude, this is done.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Like there's no way, like my time could be spent so much better elsewhere.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Um, like I kind of always knew the internet money was out there, and like so I saw so many people getting involved in it.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: I was like, there's gotta be a way for me to be able to do this.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And then UGC turned out to be that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so what did those first days look like?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Literally, just like I said earlier, just the figure it out ability.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I look back on some of my first videos every once in a while.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: I'm like, dude, what were you doing?
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: This is so bad.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: No mic, no light.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: I didn't even have a tripod.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I literally just propped my phone up on a laptop, on my work laptop like that, and just talked front camera, and it was just so bad.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: But luckily, the brands we were with early on, they were really, uh I guess understanding is a word you could say, and they were really good with feedback.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: So obviously, I I put my head to the the grindstone, whatever the saying is, and just started making videos like so constantly that it was only inevitable that they were gonna get better.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that because I feel like as the space is evolving, people almost overthink it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: You think you you think you need all this fancy stuff and it has to be super professional.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And obviously, that is how you know your content's grown to be elite with what you've learned over time, but you don't have you don't have to jump in like that, you know.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: No, no, I just actually just made a post about this.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: It was either last night or two nights ago on my UGC page.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: I was like, the paralysis by analysis demon comes for UGC so bad because everyone's like, I need this perfect script, I need this perfect wording, I need this perfect b-roll.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Sure, sometimes, but almost you're almost just better off just stepping in front of the camera and just figuring it out.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and the paralysis by analysis can happen to anyone at no matter what stage you are.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: It even happens to me too.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You start overthinking stuff, you're like, wow, I've been doing this for a while.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: You you're like, oh, every piece of content needs to be better and better, and then you just freeze because it's hard to continuously quote unquote make better videos when you just need to keep doing what you're doing.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: And I like notice even though I've had a dip in sales for a day or two, I start to second guess myself.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I'm like, am I actually good at this?
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Like, is this the right thing?
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: But obviously, that's when you start to think too much, and then you know, you just step back in front of the camera and then you figure it out.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one of people's biggest questions with Tribe is how do I find the right brands to work for?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Because we all know you can get it with a brand, make great videos, and still not make any money.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: How did you go about choosing your first brands to work for?
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: So, my first my very first brands, um, they were V Squad brands, so I actually didn't have to go and request them.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And then luckily I was able to build enough GMV with to where brands are starting to reach out to me.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: But even then, I like to kind of do a little audit of the brand.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a lot easier now because there's the tribe score, which tells you uh, I believe the creator earnings, uh, how fast they are with submissions, running your ads, stuff like that.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, but one thing I do like to do is if I see a creator that maybe I follow on Instagram or that I know, I'll reach out to them and be like, hey, what's this brand like?
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Do you actually like working with them?
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Are they running your ads and are they doing that properly?
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Um another thing I would look at is if they host weekly calls, if they give good feedback on your content, just you know, are they actually involved in the whole creator process?
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So what does it look like now?
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: You said you just work with a few brands or I I do the not so recommended method of working.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: I think I have like, yeah, I'd have to look, maybe like eight to ten brands right now on Tribe, which is way too many.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I know it is.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Um spread a little thin for sure.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I am trying to dial it back, but it's just kind of hard to leave because I do really like all of them a lot.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: But I know if I just went in on like four or five max, it would probably just be so much better.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: But I I found some good traction with a few.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I I would definitely recommend the sweet spot of Ford 5.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so how are you gonna make that decision of which ones to cut back on and which ones to keep?
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's the thing is like some of the things, it's like the products I do really like, but maybe the sales aren't there, so so that's a way to do it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Another way is the brand, I mean, they're just not as creator-focused.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: I do have a few of those where like I'm getting decent sales, but for the long term, maybe it doesn't make sense because they're not as focused on the creators as other brands are.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: And then even just looking into Black Friday and Cyber Monday stuff, the brands that maybe aren't prioritizing that, which I think is crazy, maybe that's not one to look for long term because maybe they just don't see the vision.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot to go into it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: A lot of people ask me how do I choose brands, and I can give a lot of things I look for, kind of like you just said as well.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: But I also break my own rules a lot too.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's especially, dude, I've I think I have 300 brand requests right now on Tribe.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: No, I'm probably not gonna work with any of them, but it's kind of hard to say no sometimes.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: You go look and I I don't look through them often, but I'll go through and look.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: I'll be like, oh, this is this is pretty sick.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, this is tempting.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's cool.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: So, how long did it take you to actually see traction on Tribe?
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, dude, it took so long.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: I want to say I had I wish I knew the exact number.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: It was like a hundred something approved submissions before I had my first sale.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And and even worse than that, well, it was awesome, but it was worse.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: The first sale that I got was like a$600 batch payout because the brand's attribution was all messed up.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: So my dope I swear my dopamine's been fried ever since.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Dude, like seeing that notification, I was like, okay, yeah, this is just bonkers, but it took a while.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Like most people would quit.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And that's I think why like finding great creators on Tribe are few and far between because they don't see that instant gratification and success right away, they just bounce onto something else.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: So a hundred approved submissions before you had a sale come in.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I was just like I said earlier, I it's just why not try it?
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And I knew like people around me were getting sales, and I was like, okay, it's only a matter of time before I do, so I just, you know, kind of kept getting after it until it actually happened.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's crazy.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: So what were you thinking during that time?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Was there ever a point where you were like, this isn't gonna work?
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Or dude, even now, I I kind of realized I don't really think much about it at all.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: To be honest, I just kind of just spam away.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: It's all probably gonna work itself out.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: But there wasn't much thought process.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I was like, I saw everyone else around me making the money and getting those sale notifications.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: So I figured if I just kept at it, that I would that would inevitably happen to me as well.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: That's another great thing about being part of a group or community, is that you see other people doing it and you know it's possible, and you know those are also regular people too.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Like 100%.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I you know, you see all these people, just random people on the internet, and they're like, you know, I've been doing UGC for five months and haven't haven't made any money.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: It's like when you're not surrounded by anybody who's doing it, it's really difficult to have the long-term vision.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: I recently saw you had some crazy days.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Like, let's talk about what UGC is like now.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: Like I saw this$4,000 in a day or something like that.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was I think I think with red uh I think it with the retainer payout, it was a little over$4,000.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: So that was just what the hell is going.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in a day, yeah.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Crazy.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: And then another day that was, I think$2,300 or$2,400 in straight commissions, and it was just bro, this is this is out of hand.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: It was so crazy.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Like it doesn't even feel like it still doesn't even feel real.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Like I'm still like withdrawing the money into my banking capital.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh, what is going on?
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like this is this is nuts.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I'm always curious.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Are you like uh are you like a withdrawal immediately person, or do you like it?
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, I probably should be.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: You know, you can get you can get your little extra earnings in uh high yield savings or whatever, but no, I I I'm I'm kind of not, which I honestly I don't really know why, because I have all my notifications on and I know when I get the withdrawals and I know when like they're good for payouts, but for some reason it just sits.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: So you just let it load up to like 20, 30k payouts.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, maybe maybe you know what subconsciously that's probably why.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Seeing like a fact with draw go out, I'm just like, okay, yeah, that's pretty nice.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's awesome.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: So, like, what are the people, what are the people in your real life, like your friends, family, fiance, like what do they all think of this?
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: At first, I'm I know my twin brother who he he might watch this.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: He's like, bro, what is this pyramid scheme?
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, pyramid scheme?
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pyramid scheme, it's a scam, whatever.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Obviously, you know, people have their I love when people say that.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: It's like, dude, it's it's free to do.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I think that's why people think it's like such a scam, is because you can literally get started for free and the barrier to entry is so low.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Like, you get the mic and the light and the tripod, you spend a hundred bucks and you're you're in the game.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Um, so they thought it was all a bunch of crazy nonsense at first.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you doing?
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Why are you wasting your time?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Money started to slowly trickle in, so they like stopped questioning about it.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: And now that I'm making like a bunch of money, they're like questioning it in their guards of okay, how do I get started?
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: So it's just so funny how the tide can turn so fast when you start making a little bit of money.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Yep, exactly.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Have you do you have any friends from real life that have started doing this?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm actually helping a few people out right now.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: One of my friends is diving all in on it, which is so cool.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: He um I like showed him the tribe of top 100 one day, and he's like, you anyone can do this, huh?
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: There was like older women, there was like bigger men, there was older men.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, dude, this is literally for everybody.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: You don't need a following, you don't post it, and you just submit onto the platform.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: It's literally so easy.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And so when you're guiding those people who are brand new to UGC and you're trying to help them get started, what are some of the things that you're telling them?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Well, so for them, it's it's tougher because they the per the one specific person I'm working with, I told them you can join the agency down the line, but right now it's pretty expensive.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: And I feel like with a little bit of guidance, I could probably help you out get started.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: I tell them to submit demo videos and I kind of walk them through a decent demo video.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: And then another thing I said was to go to the brand's Facebook ads library, meta ads library, take their top format, buy the product, do that video for verbatim, basically, and then send that over with your request to join.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: And the brand sees that and doesn't accept they're kind of silly, I think.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: So just kind of like giving them the basics essentially, like have the mic, have the light shown, like hook body CTA.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And then just kind of go from there and they have their own figure it out ability as well.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: He's gonna keep plugging away at it because I think he sees the vision, especially after like what I was able to do.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: So it's just like it's cool to see because obviously I've been like so focused in on myself.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: It it's cool to try to like help somebody else get started because I I knew how it was.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it is really awesome to now that we both have this skill, technically anybody that wants to learn how to make money online, we can show them how to do it.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: And it's oh yeah, as it's it's essentially the closest thing to a guarantee as there is out there.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Like 100%.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: If if you're willing to put in the time and the effort, anybody who wants to escape their job or anything like that, they they really can do it.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: It's all about you know the effort that you put in, like you said, the the figure out ability.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now that you've got to experience having a lot of big winners on your brands.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Actually, I'm curious, what's like your top ad Meiji?
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Do you know?
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: I think it's I think it's just shy of 20,000.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, crazy.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: So they do uh 15% of ad spend and the thing just absolutely that's interesting because I've always wondered the difference between GMV and ad spend.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: I've thought that GMV is better because it's ultimately like the the sales.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: But yeah, what's your thoughts on GMV versus ad spend?
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: I think GMV is better for long-term videos.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: I've I've noticed that like I go I will get like consistently more money with like a high-performing GMV video because I have one that's been running since I think June, and I'm still getting like I still got a sale from it this morning.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Um so I think those type of videos have a longer shelf life.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: But in terms of just straight monetary value, like the ad spend can just juice up so fast.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: So they're they're just I assume it doesn't last as long, though.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: That's the only issue.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's so it'll be like some really big hitters, thousand dollars in a day in ad spend or something.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, 100%.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Which like you would have to you would have to do a lot of sales to see that in GMV, unless you're with some crazy AOV um product.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I I do like having both because like I mean, selfishly I like seeing money every day, and like if you have an brand, like you're you're typically getting a bunch of notifications throughout the day.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, GMV is also awesome because I mean we're salesmen at the end of the day, and if you're good at selling, then you're gonna get the money regardless.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Do you still have GMV turned on?
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Or not not sorry, not GMV turned on.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Do you still do you still have notifications turned on?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so bad.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: It's so bad.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Your phone's gotta be going crazy.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I need to turn it off.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: I love I love seeing it though, like self-assumed.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Especially like I'm I'm like totally new to entrepreneurship, so like just seeing all this stuff, it's like epic, but I know it's so bad for me as well.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Hey, it's keeping you going.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: True.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Do you have low days anymore?
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Like, do you have days where you're only making a couple hundred bucks?
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, up until a few weeks ago, uh it had like$200 days consistently, which I mean still is is decent money for sure.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: And I'm sure it'll probably happen again at some point.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, this isn't this isn't guaranteed money, it could go up and down.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: But since I had that recent uptick, it hasn't really been too low.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I think my lowest was like eight eight eighty, maybe.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Nice the recent high has been sick.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I don't expect it to last forever and it will come back down again.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's where like even having like retainers.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Like I have a bunch of retainers, so having those built in is really nice too because they kind of offset those lower days.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: So how do you go about asking companies for retainers?
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So that's fun.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: I actually I might not even have any left.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Usually the brands reached out to me, actually.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I I had enough performing videos and sales generated, they're like, hey, we want to keep you around.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Like, we want to give you a retainer.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Because at the end of the day, if you're doing really well for these brands, they're coaching you up, they're having these weekly calls.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: If if you if they don't give you the reason to stick around, then they're basically just funding their competition, essentially.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Um okay.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: So you so you worked with brands and proved yourself and then got the retainers, essentially.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: I think there was like two where I asked for it up front because I was at the point where I I think my tribe profile probably said 150, 200 plus GMD in the last 30 days.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: So I could literally leverage that.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: I was like, listen, I'm getting I'm getting pulled in a bunch of different directions already in a bunch of other brands.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: If I'm gonna sign on with you guys and do less work elsewhere, then I'm gonna need some sort of retainer.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So I think I have like one or two of those where I pitched it, but all the other ones were ones that they requested from me.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: So yeah, 100%.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: I I always recommend for people looking to get retainers on Tribe, you have to start off, you have to get to get some sales.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Like there's there's no way to skip that process of getting like 20 to 30k a month in sales.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: So on your side, what that will look like is having like two to three K a month in commissions in the past 30 days.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: If you're there and brands are reaching out to you, you can start having the conversation of saying, hey, I'd I'd love to work for you.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Your brand looks really interesting because XYZ, I would love to work with you, but have a few other companies that are paying me a retainer of X.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: If you're at that's that point that I mentioned, maybe ask for a retainer of$500 or$1,000 for 30 videos.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times they'll say yes.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: That's what I've seen from people is that at the two to three K in commissions, you can get retainers of like$500 to$1,000 a month.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and honestly, I think start it small.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Don't do an insane monetary value.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, say$500 for 30 videos.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Ideally, you blow that out of the water, and then you can cut back next month and just keep offering more and more as you keep beating it.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Quick interruption here.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: This video is brought to you by RTech, the all-in-one platform for UGC creators.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: So, as a UGC creator, there are really three things you need.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: One is a suite of tools to make you more efficient from editing, tracking your deals, tracking your finances so that you're not hopping around from a million different apps.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Two, the knowledge and coaching and training from people who've already been there and done that.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And then three, access to deals.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: RTEC provides you all three of those and and was built by some of the OGs from the UGC space who understand everything that UGC creators know what they need to be successful.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: You can go hop on and try it now for free.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Just click the link below.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now that you have a bunch of those winners, what do you do to let's say you have a huge winner?
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: What do you do to iterate on that?
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I would switch the uh script around just like a little bit.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't go too crazy.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: I maybe just switch some some little bit of the body around.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Um, another thing I would do, I could switch the format.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Like if it was a talking head video, I would just go ahead and green screen it or like B-roll over B-roll overlay it.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: But then that, I mean, even just as easy as switching the background.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Like go if I did it inside, if it makes sense, go film it outside.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Um and then other than that, I would even if let's say it was a winning script for ProMix D bloat and I was just talking about fixing your stomach.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: If if the script was the winner, then I would even I could even just do a talk comment and say, how how is this gonna help me clear up my gut microbiome or whatever?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Like there's so many different little concepts and formats that you can use inside of UGC.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: I would just try all of them and assume that one of them would probably work again.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: So what are talk comments and how do you use them?
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's fun.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Those are easy.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Actually, I made a post about this the other day.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: I went crazy.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I think it was actually broke the night, I didn't break the website, but it was down for a little bit.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: I felt so bad.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I was telling all these people to go to talkcomment.com.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And like the night I posted it, the website was down.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: It's like, what the?
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, so you basically just go, it's called talkcomment.com and you Type in whatever you uh want the comment to be.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And then you just take a screenshot, remove the background in like CapCut or whatever editing software you're using, and then you just basically reply to that comment in the hook.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: So it's basically you're asking a common pain point of the customer.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: So then you can answer it and it still looks organic.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Another one that I've been playing around with recently is putting the offer or the deal in the ta comment.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Like if it was a bio get one deal, I'd be like, hey, is this BOGO deal still live?
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: And I feel like that's almost a way to automatically get people to go to the site.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh shit, if there's a BOGO deal, I need to get on there.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: There's just so many different ways you you can you can make videos.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Um and that's why like people always ask volume.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: I'm like, dude, there are countless ways you can talk about the same thing.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Do you ever get tired of making UGC videos?
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: There's been a few burnout points for sure, but I I do at the end of the day, like I I remind myself that, you know, this is way easier and way cooler than sitting at a corporate job.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: And the upside is just so good.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Like the there's like no ceiling for money, really.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: So like I've I've had a few points of burnout where I'm like, damn, I really don't want to film today.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: And I just kind of have to like sit back and remind myself how like how easy it is.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: And like I do and I do enjoy it most days.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's just basically reminding and just being like, okay, you're just gonna film today and that's it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I I say the 80% of the rewards people get from entrepreneurship is just having the grit and discipline to actually do work when nobody is telling them to do it.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just like I I like comparing it to the gym a lot.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: It's like no one's gonna hold your hand and tell you to go bench press three times a week.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: That's just something you have to go do.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: So yep.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Do you film every day or do you take days off?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: I no, I haven't taken a day off in so long.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Probably, you know, probably should.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: I do epic.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: I I do a little less on the weekends.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: I usually do like five or so videos compared to my usual 10.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: At some point I will take a day off.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Maybe after I don't know.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I I got I got actually do a few trips coming up, so it's gonna I I might get a handful done because I do like enjoying at least getting E-roll on vacation because I feel like it's so good to leverage.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: But no, I haven't taken a day off in a little while.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: And so is your is your magic number 10 for the day?
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: That's what you usually do.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I do during the week, usually that's what I send off to the editor.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Um and then on the weekends I'll do like five depending depending on what I have going on, or sometimes I'll I'll lock in and do like 20.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: It just kind of depends on like how my mind's flowing and how I'm feeling.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: So, what's your process like for working with your editor?
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: That was annoying at first.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you can relate.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Training up the editor was a pain because you have to pretty much teach him everything.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: You got to get all of your B-roll in there, you gotta get all your screenshots in there.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but basically we just work on a shared Google Drive, and I have each brand broken down into a folder, and I'll like message him on WhatsApp and be like, hey, this is what I have for the day.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Um, and I'll leave instructions inside of each end, like I want this green screen here, or I want you to do this here, do no captions or whatever.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So it's a pretty open line of communication, and we just kind of go back and forth.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: And like I said, at first getting him taught up on like how I want my editing style to be was a pain.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: It's probably took like two or three weeks.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but now I pretty much just send the raw footage in there unedited, and he knows what to do.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: And then, like, like I said, if I need something specific, I'll just like kind of outline it.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: So are you telling him what to do at each point?
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Unless it's like a newer brand and he doesn't really know what I'm looking for, then yes.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: But when then when there's times where I want like a specific green screen that he might not really understand, then that's when I've say like green screen this here.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: It just kind of depends on the brand and what kind of like ad I'm filming for.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: It's like one of those things where it is a lot more effort up front.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: But I couldn't imagine having, you know, not having.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, when I started, I was just editing in Cap Cut, like I'm I'm sure you probably were too.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: And like editing every video in Cap Cut is Oh my god, is crazy.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: It is draining, especially after getting an editor.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I'll edit videos myself.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I'm like, dude, this is horrible.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Like you you literally get so much time back.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it's insane.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: I I've I've been spamming my personal brand stuff so much more, and then even just getting simple talking head stuff done, uh, myself editing too.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: So it's just really good for having more free time and then being able to do more volume as well.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: And so what's the pay structure with your editor?
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Is it per video or does he work a certain amount of hours?
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: We kind of just do per month basis.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Our videos are pretty set, so I guess if you you could kind of like break it down into per video, um, I usually do 10 uh Monday through Friday and then five on Saturday and Sunday.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Um and then there's obviously incentives baked into that.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Like if he creates a winner for me, then I'm gonna pay him accordingly.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, as we've kind of known each other more and gotten more dialed in, I've I've up to pay uh because obviously I wouldn't be as successful without him there.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: And I want him to know that obviously I respect him and I need him to keep creating winning content.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: So it's just keeping him happy, basically.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: So he's editing on the weekends too?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but not as much.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: We talked about that, and he was like, Listen, I can send you more during the week and you can do it then, or I can we can do maybe do less on the weekend or we can do that.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And like sometimes if he wants a day, which is no problem, I just either give him the day or I'll send him a couple more videos like throughout the week to balance it out.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Definitely uh a huge game changer for sure.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, god, yeah, it's crazy.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Now that you're about to be doing UGC full time, where do you see yourself taking this?
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Is it just gonna be more videos, or what does that look like for you?
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I I people have been starting to ask me that.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: I think for now I really do enjoy making the content and being a creator.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: So I think it's just gonna be doing more videos.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: And I was talking to somebody about this the other day.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Having just the ability to only solely focus in on UGC has already been such an unlock.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: On Saturday, I was like, okay, the only thing I'm doing today is UGC.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: And I didn't have to think about the corporate job.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: I wasn't like distracted doing anything else, and I feel like it just made my videos so much better.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So I think for now it'll probably just be, you know, more videos and better videos.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but down the line, at some point, I would like to either do some sort of coaching or maybe even like start a little side brand or something along the lines.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm not really sure what's in store, but it's definitely gonna, I'm definitely gonna try to dive into this space more for sure.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: We're seeing like what's going on with all these brand owners and stuff.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's a it's a really good behind the scenes.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: People always say, what's next with UGC?
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's just like there's so many options, so many places you could go.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: You could start a brand, yeah, you could do an agency and coach others.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, you just need to you just need to be a few steps of someone else in order to really give them a huge unlock.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in order to do that.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: There's so much value inside of this space.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: And having another thing with Tribe that people are starting to talk about a little bit more is having the direct access to the founders is just insane.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like you don't really get that anywhere else.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: No, it's it's crazy.
- 28:40unknown: Yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: And now have you done anything?
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Have you done any other types of UGC or TikTok shop or expanded?
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: No, so I know I don't have the follow I don't have the uh follower threshold for TikTok shop.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: And I actually have done a few UGC type of stuff off tribe, which was interesting because I was all I I basically went into UGC only knowing tribe.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: So it was like a learning curve.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: It's like I had to do like I had to write an invoice, which you know, straight chat shoots that I know.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: And then another one I was just kind of helping this guy out.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I'm actually still doing that now, which is cool.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's like it's it's obviously traditional, it's not commission based, which is which is interesting, and I can see why people do enjoy it, but I also do like the commission structure.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, you're basically working for free, but if you get that winning video, which I'm sure you've had too, like the upside is just insane.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it doesn't really feel like you're working for free if you can get that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: I'm in a quote unquote slow period where I haven't been making much videos, but I still have two to three hundred bucks coming in a day, so that's 8k a month for videos that I made months ago.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the this the fact that we call slow days like two to three hundred is hilarious because that's like obviously it's still some solid money.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so like once you get one big month, I feel like that replaces like all the slow months anyway.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's just like the the space right now is crazy.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because the way I look at it is like if I I just need a few more big winners and then I like double, and then that's some some really good stuff.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I most creators like ourselves, I feel like we get at least a few winners every couple months, if not even less time.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: It's just the slow periods feel like feel like ass, I will say that.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Well, it's gonna be speeding up here for the rest of the year at least.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Um there's always some reason for like people to be to be buying products.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Well, cool.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: So so where do you see the UGC space going over the next few years?
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I I I I try to look more into it.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: I know some people think Pribe is just gonna be a fad that kind of goes away.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Um I do think influencer marketing is definitely on the chopping block because it just doesn't make sense.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Like, why why would somebody like let's say Promix, for example, pay a creator, or not even a creator, pay an influencer$5,000 for this one-off video that A, the creator doesn't really care about, they just want the bag.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: And then for the brand, it's probably gonna make maybe a couple hundred bucks in sales or whatever it may be.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Um, so I do I do think that's not gonna be around as much longer and performance and commission based is going to take over, but I also still think there's a space for the traditional UGC as well, where you kind of get like these uh flat rate paper videos as well.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: At the end of the day, it's just online advertising, which which is which is never gonna go away.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: And the cream always rises to the top, right?
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: There there may be a lot of people flooding into this space, but there's not gonna be a lot of people who go all in on it, right?
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Because it it there's a huge advantage in just deciding, all right, this is what I'm gonna do, and I'm not gonna stop until I'm the best.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, be being a skilled creator and a skilled marketer is a is a skill that's never gonna be replaced, no matter what specifically happens with any market.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: You're you're learning skills that are gonna make you irreplaceable.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: And if you get halfway decent and get some GMV on Tribe, I have brands reaching out to me via email, via in via Instagram, via the immense amounts of requests on Tribe itself.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: There's no such thing as not enough work.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: I'm declining work every single day.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you are too.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's this weird thing where it's like you, it's like you, you actually, there's not many other other opportunities in life where you have to say no to money.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: And it's like, it's like part of me feels bad because it's like, man, it's like turning down money, but you you could never stop working in theory with UGC, which is like something I have to remind myself to be grateful for whenever I get overwhelmed.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: Like regular people, you can't just like spin up extra income.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: If you like really need to lock in or if you want to pay for an extra vacation, it's like, all right, well, just go ahead and do it pretty much.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll just take one of those emails and do some traditional UGC.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: It's awesome to see the spot that we're like like like me and you are able to be in because we've already established that we can create these high-performing videos and people are reaching out to us.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Where as someone who's just getting started, I can see where the friction is because they got to reach out to the brands.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: They need to build up their skills, they need to build up their portfolio, so to speak.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: But if they seek through that and push through to the other side, then they're gonna be joining like the people like us who we just can get jobs like however we want or whatever whenever we want, really.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so I I know you have an inst a UGC Instagram page as well that that's that's been growing a good bit.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: What are some common things that people are reaching out to you on there and asking about uh recently I've seen volume and getting on brand, which seems to be tough.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: That I I guess that's something for either newer people or maybe somebody who's kind of transitioning from traditional to more tribe because I feel like traditional you don't have to do nearly as many videos.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, you told everyone how to how to do that earlier in this video.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: So now, guys, go take that information and go put it into use.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: And then I think another thing is uh that people ask me how long it took.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that that's kind of not a silly question, but it's a very new nuanced question because for some creators I know saw success almost immediately, and some people like me, it took a few months to see some serious progress.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: So what I always tell people is UGC's not going anywhere.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: If you just kind of stick around and you plant all your seeds and all these brands and you inevitably get better, it's only a matter of time before you start to see the success that you know you probably see other people get.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and in the grand scheme of things, a few months is not a long time at all to completely spin up a six-figure, multi-six-figure business opportunity.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yeah, I always I need to remind myself that too.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: It's like I feel like I'm always in such a rush to get that next big winner, get that next big day.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: But it's just, dude, there is so much time.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Like, this is not going anywhere.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: And there's like some of the best, like one of the best creators on Tribe, that dude, uh Johnny Garvin.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: He's I think he's in his he's in his 50s.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Like it you could be doing this forever.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Like, like you said earlier, like this is not this is not going anywhere.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: So, like at the same point, like I'm talking to myself, like there is no rush.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because it's it's important to actually enjoy your life and the whole reason you're doing it along the way, because that there is always next levels to everything.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll still some see see people doing crazy numbers, and I'm like, do I suck?
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: I'm not doing that much.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: And it's like it there's there's literally never a top of the mountain.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: You have to make where you are, you know, the top of the thing.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Obviously, it's really good to set these really high goals and try to strive for greyness, but at the same point, it's like you can only do so much and you can only control so much.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: At the end of the day, you just kind of have to be be comfortable with not having a guarantee that it's gonna work out all the time.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: Yep, exactly.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: That's that's what we get paid so handsomely for.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Well, awesome.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: So you've only got a few days left of your W-2 now.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: How does it feel to know that you're gonna be completely on your own, no more Slack messages or pings from a boss or anything like that?
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Dude, it is uh, I will say, I I put it out in the video I made.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: I am nervous, but I'm also so excited.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: It's I never expected that I was gonna be an entrepreneur and I never knew that I had this creative side and I was gonna enjoy this stuff so much.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: So while, yes, it could be like, oh, what do you mean?
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm not gonna have a guaranteed paycheck because I'm almost six years corporate and I'm getting paid, you know, bi-weekly.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: But I also didn't have this unlimited ceiling that I have now.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: So nervous for sure, excited, absolutely, like I alluded to earlier, just having the ability to think only about UGC videos all day is gonna be this insane umlaw for sure.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Like if I was able to do all of this while still having to balance a corporate job, what's it gonna be like once I don't have to do that?
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna regret it.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: And there's so many other opportunities that will just hop up when you're fully in the world of entrepreneurship.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: I quit my corporate job like two years ago to this point.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: I had no idea I was gonna end up in UGC.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: But it's like at the end of the day, right?
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: No one's no one's gonna be a UGC creator for the next 30 years, right?
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: But it's like what I always tell people is you don't have to know step 10 to to make to put the time in to take step two.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Because once you're out in the world surrounded by other entrepreneurs, so many opportunities.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: I know I don't even like to an extent, I'm not even gonna chase those opportunities because I know like inevitably they're just gonna kind of come my way.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: I'm sure like you, you had no idea what they were gonna be, and neither do I, but um, I'm excited for it no matter what, because like you said, you just kind of get into these rooms, so to speak, with these founders and these brand owners or these CMOs or whoever it may be, and you never know what can come from it.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: And you know, being fully locked in on UGC specifically, I think is just it's gonna have so many different ways to blossom and kind of throw opportunities in my direction.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Well, as one of the top tribe creators out there who built his entire success while having a job, what's uh what's the last piece of advice you would give to people who are curious about getting into UGC or curious if they should put the effort into it?
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: I'm yeah, I'm just a normal dude.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: I I don't live in this big fancy house.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: I have this corporate job.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Anyone can do this.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: You just have to be a little bit delusional and you kind of just have to lock in.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Like if you have a full-time job, do it in the morning, doing it at night.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: And just know in the back of your head that you could either A, replace this full-time job that you have now that you maybe don't enjoy, or you can fund vacations and not have to worry about, you know, I want to go on this trip to Italy.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, there's my UGC money.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: Oh man, groceries were expensive this week.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, doesn't matter.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Oh man, gas prices are going up.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Like I haven't looked at a gas price in in so long.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Like this is gonna sound like an like an asshole move, but I haven't looked at a gas price in so long because I know it doesn't matter.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Like it just having having financial freedom has never been easier, for sure.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: I'm stoked we finally got to talk.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you give out tons of free game on the interwebs as well.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: So where can the people find you at?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: T Shapefit underscore UGC is where you're gonna find a lot of tribe and UGC sauce for sure.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to post on that every single day.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: So awesome.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll go ahead and link that down below.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Thanks everyone for listening to another episode of the UGC Industry Podcast.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: Talk to you next time.
