- 0:01Let's see.
- 0:02Is this thing on?
- 0:04I see a green light.
- 0:06Oh, and there's the squiggles on the screen.
- 0:10I think it's working!
- 0:11Ha ha! We have a podcast!
- 0:14Well, hello, everyone.
- 0:17Let me introduce myself.
- 0:19My name is Dan, and I'm the pastor of the church in a town called Grace Harbor.
- 0:24And we're all so excited that you're here.
- 0:27You see, here in Grace Harbor, we made a discovery.
- 0:32Well, it's not new.
- 0:34So technically, I guess it would be a rediscovery.
- 0:39We discovered, I mean, rediscovered
- 0:42that if you add just three short disciplines to your day,
- 0:46it can turn our ordinary days into an extraordinary life.
- 0:52Do you know what a discipline is?
- 0:54It's kind of like a habit.
- 0:56You know what a habit is, I'm sure.
- 0:58It's something you do regularly.
- 1:01Like, I have the habit of craving tacos
- 1:03on Tuesdays because it's Taco Tuesday.
- 1:07Or maybe you have the habit of leaving your bedroom light on when you leave.
- 1:12But habits are things that just kind of happen.
- 1:15Disciplines are things that we choose to do regularly,
- 1:20and we choose to do them because they help us learn and grow as people.
- 1:25Earlier this year, we picked out three disciplines
- 1:28to add to our morning routines: gratitude,
- 1:31intention, and prayer.
- 1:34Gratitude means thinking about things we're thankful for.
- 1:38Intention means thinking about our day and what we're going to do—or sometimes,
- 1:43more importantly, how we're going to do the things we have to do that day.
- 1:47And prayer?
- 1:49Well, that's just a way to talk to God that helps us
- 1:52stay connected with the one that made us, loves us,
- 1:55and calls us to dive into the adventure that's all around us.
- 2:00And these three, they work together.
- 2:03Gratitude opens our hearts.
- 2:05Intention focuses our minds.
- 2:09And prayer fills us up with what we need for the day.
- 2:12And here's the thing: it doesn't have to take long.
- 2:16Just a couple of minutes in the morning was all
- 2:18it took to help us get set up for a great day.
- 2:22And then we rediscovered that
- 2:24if we take just a few minutes at the end of the day
- 2:27to think about how the day went, to look ahead to what's coming tomorrow,
- 2:32and thank God for all the blessings of the day,
- 2:36it helps lock in all the good stuff that's happening all around us.
- 2:40That doesn't sound very hard, does it?
- 2:42It's not.
- 2:43It's also not going to change your life in one day or one week.
- 2:48Disciplines aren't magic tricks.
- 2:51But we found that as we do this each day,
- 2:55it helps us notice all the amazing things God is doing in our lives.
- 3:00It helps us notice when our prayers are answered.
- 3:03It helps us notice the people we love and the things that make us happy.
- 3:07And we can see how we're growing in our faith.
- 3:11It's made such a big difference in our lives
- 3:13that we wanted to share it with all of you, and we figured
- 3:17the best way to start sharing it would be through this podcast.
- 3:21So welcome to the very first episode of the Family Prayer Podcast.

- 5:32That's something I'm definitely looking forward to.
- 5:36Before we go, let's say a quick prayer.
- 5:39If you want to, you can close your eyes and fold your hands.
- 5:43“Dear
- 5:43God, I thank you for all of the new friends
- 5:47I've made this morning through the podcast.
- 5:49I can't wait for them to get to know more about Grace Harbor,
