- 1:51Speaker 2: All right, my people. What's going on? This is Vince Wright.
- 1:55Speaker 2: You know me as the Sports Governor or the Big Smooth.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I am the host of this Sports Done Right podcast.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And ladies and gentlemen, let's just get right into it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: First off, I want to thank my sponsor, 7th Avenue Pizza.
- 2:08Speaker 2: The best frozen pizza out there in the state of Minnesota.
- 2:11Speaker 2: The best ingredients. The best pizza. Just go get you some.
- 2:15Speaker 2: of that Seventh Avenue pizza, and shout out to the
- 2:19Speaker 2: Nelson family, because I'm telling you, man, there's a lot of,
- 2:24Speaker 2: I say it all the time, a lot of good
- 2:25Speaker 2: frozen pizzas in Minnesota, no doubt, but Seventh Ave is
- 2:29Speaker 2: the one, so make sure you go get you some,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and they support the podcast. All right, people, Iowa week,
- 2:37Speaker 2: Minnesota Gophers coming off of a horrid, lost to Purdue
- 2:43Speaker 2: by week for both Minnesota and Iowa. And, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 2: I had to get my thoughts in here because while
- 2:52Speaker 2: this game can go either way, I mean, I've talked
- 2:55Speaker 2: to Gopher fans that have said, you know, hey, it
- 2:57Speaker 2: would not surprise me if the Gophers win. But for me,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and I put a video out on Twitter, Twitter, listen
- 3:06Speaker 2: to me, Twitter, which I like to call it instead
- 3:09Speaker 2: of X. I still like to call it Twitter. But
- 3:14Speaker 2: I put out a little video. And for the sports
- 3:18Speaker 2: gov here, I'm tired, man. I'm tired of the who
- 3:22Speaker 2: hates Iowa chants. I'm tired of all the shit talking
- 3:28Speaker 2: on this team that has beaten us what, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 2: in the past 25 years of what we got four
- 3:34Speaker 2: victories or something like that. It took a. questionable call
- 3:39Speaker 2: for us to get the win a few years ago
- 3:41Speaker 2: as we know I'm just tired man I need to
- 3:45Speaker 2: see it on the field from these Minnesota Gophers when
- 3:47Speaker 2: it comes to the Iowa Hawkeyes and everything else is
- 3:52Speaker 2: out the window I'm not going to sit here and
- 3:54Speaker 2: prognosticate on the game and try and break it down
- 3:56Speaker 2: well actually here this is what needs to be broken
- 3:59Speaker 2: down the Minnesota Gophers need to find a way to
- 4:01Speaker 2: run the football and you know we rank 130th in
- 4:08Speaker 2: the nation and rushing. I think we're averaging just over
- 4:10Speaker 2: three yards of carry. And, you know, with Darius Taylor
- 4:16Speaker 2: kind of missing in action here and whatnot, I got
- 4:18Speaker 2: to tell you, I don't know how the Gophers win tomorrow.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I hope I'm wrong, of course, because I'll be the
- 4:26Speaker 2: first one to come back on here and say I
- 4:28Speaker 2: was wrong, and I'm glad I'm wrong. But I just
- 4:31Speaker 2: got to see it on the field, man. I have
- 4:35Speaker 2: seen a lot of Minnesota-Iowa games in my lifetime. I
- 4:39Speaker 2: come from a time, remember, I'm old. I'm in my,
- 4:41Speaker 2: you know, approaching my later 50s. I remember when we
- 4:44Speaker 2: used to beat the crap out of Iowa more than not.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But not lately, as we know. And without a running game,
- 4:53Speaker 2: without a way for the Golden Gophers and PJ's team to,
- 4:57Speaker 2: you know, control the clock more, I don't know if
- 5:02Speaker 2: they get You know, let's say they get down early again, 13-3.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Something that's just going to have to, you know, okay,
- 5:10Speaker 2: now they got to start passing the ball. That ain't
- 5:13Speaker 2: going to work, I don't think. Now you flip the
- 5:16Speaker 2: script to Iowa and this newfound Iowa offense, and they're
- 5:19Speaker 2: throwing the ball all over the place, and they got
- 5:21Speaker 2: receivers and running backs. You know, Gophers got to win
- 5:26Speaker 2: the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball,
- 5:28Speaker 2: offensive line and defensive line. They got to find a
- 5:32Speaker 2: way to put pressure on the Iowa quarterback. They got
- 5:36Speaker 2: to find a way to get pressure and stop that
- 5:39Speaker 2: Iowa run game. Got to find a way to kind
- 5:41Speaker 2: of shut Iowa down finally. And, you know, I mean,
- 5:49Speaker 2: for me, you know, outside of the couple games a
- 5:55Speaker 2: few years ago, I mean, Minnesota just obviously we saw
- 5:58Speaker 2: what happened last year. 41-3. But, man, you just got
- 6:05Speaker 2: to do better because there's going to be a lot
- 6:09Speaker 2: of Iowa fans in the stands tomorrow, I'm feeling, because
- 6:12Speaker 2: that Purdue loss kind of took the momentum out of
- 6:17Speaker 2: this game, at least on the Gophers' side. You know,
- 6:20Speaker 2: Iowa did what they were supposed to do. They went out,
- 6:22Speaker 2: killed Washington before their bye week, kept their streak intact.
- 6:29Speaker 2: They're playing for college playoffs. And Minnesota just laid an egg. And,
- 6:35Speaker 2: you know, all the Gopher fans I talked to, just
- 6:39Speaker 2: the whole humness of it all just kind of came back.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And the Gophers are 4-2, still, you know, a lot
- 6:45Speaker 2: of season left. But they just got to find a
- 6:48Speaker 2: way to get past Iowa. And I'm sitting here and
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of ways. And without that running
- 6:53Speaker 2: game in tow, putting more pressure on Drake Lindsey, I
- 6:56Speaker 2: don't know if that's necessarily the best thing for us because,
- 7:00Speaker 2: you drake has not played his best lately here as
- 7:04Speaker 2: well so yeah man there's all kinds of questions on
- 7:07Speaker 2: the minnesota gopher side of the ball and you know
- 7:16Speaker 2: and you know with iowa heklinski their quarterback you know
- 7:20Speaker 2: looked okay in iowa um Kamari Moulton, 208 yards in
- 7:29Speaker 2: the Iowa game at Washington. Help them dominate out there. And,
- 7:35Speaker 2: you know, the Gophers better be prepared for those two. Because, again,
- 7:39Speaker 2: if Iowa comes out and sets the tone early, literally
- 7:42Speaker 2: just takes the air, any air, any momentum out of
- 7:45Speaker 2: the stadium early, it's going to be a long, long
- 7:49Speaker 2: afternoon over there at Huntington Bank Stadium for the Minnesota Gophers.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And that's just it. Find a damn way to win
- 8:02Speaker 2: this game. You know, I even saw P.J. talking in
- 8:07Speaker 2: one of his pressers this week, and he was just,
- 8:09Speaker 2: you know, P.J. obviously so up and, you know, Adam
- 8:12Speaker 2: and all that stuff. Even P.J. was kind of tame
- 8:15Speaker 2: and laid back. You know, when you get dominated the
- 8:19Speaker 2: way Kurt Ferentz has dominated the Gophers here, in P.J.
- 8:23Speaker 2: 's tenure especially, And I don't know. I don't know.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I will be out there tailgating. Going to be meeting
- 8:34Speaker 2: some people out there. Excited to get out there. Enjoy
- 8:39Speaker 2: literally the last nice day of the year. It's going
- 8:41Speaker 2: to be breezy, but it's going to be in the mid-70s.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And that's the other thing, too. Weather-wise, you're going to
- 8:47Speaker 2: have really kind of a perfect day. Weather-wise, so Gophers,
- 8:53Speaker 2: do your business, man, because... I was coming in, like
- 8:56Speaker 2: I said, I was playing for the playoffs, and they're
- 9:01Speaker 2: just looking to keep rolling. And if they can find
- 9:08Speaker 2: a way to win out, and also, too, you look
- 9:10Speaker 2: at the rest of the Gophers' schedule here as well,
- 9:13Speaker 2: and let me just bring that up here, bear with me,
- 9:16Speaker 2: because let's say it doesn't get better for Minnesota, right? Um,
- 9:28Speaker 2: let's see. So who does Minnesota got coming up? Oh yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 2: You know, so, you know, if you can't get to
- 9:33Speaker 2: win tomorrow, next Saturday, Halloween, you are at Indiana. That's
- 9:38Speaker 2: a two 30 start. And then you have numbered and
- 9:43Speaker 2: Indiana's ranked six. As of now, you, the game after
- 9:46Speaker 2: that on November 7th is a undefeated as of now,
- 9:50Speaker 2: UCLA team, right? Number nine in the country. So two
- 9:54Speaker 2: top 10 teams, you know, Three games with top 15
- 9:58Speaker 2: opponents coming up for the game. the gophers and this
- 10:02Speaker 2: season can go south very quickly as it can go
- 10:05Speaker 2: north and be very surprising but gophers man they just
- 10:10Speaker 2: better come prepared now because it's about it is getting
- 10:13Speaker 2: real okay it is getting real for the minnesota golden
- 10:16Speaker 2: gophers And I couldn't do it. You know, I've been
- 10:20Speaker 2: busy this week, but I had to make sure that
- 10:22Speaker 2: I got on and got a sports done right podcast
- 10:25Speaker 2: out because, you know, yeah, this is one of our
- 10:28Speaker 2: biggest rivals. And I had to get on here and
- 10:30Speaker 2: talk about it because Minnesota, man, who boy, like I said,
- 10:35Speaker 2: bowl eligibility, all kinds of stuff on the line here
- 10:41Speaker 2: because it doesn't get any easier. Like I said, after
- 10:44Speaker 2: this Iowa game. And Iowa is coming in to do
- 10:47Speaker 2: business tomorrow. They are going to have a lot of
- 10:49Speaker 2: fans in that stadium. And we will see what happens. Predictions,
- 10:56Speaker 2: I've heard a lot of different people talking a lot
- 10:58Speaker 2: of different things. Actually peeped in on a couple Iowa podcasts.
- 11:04Speaker 2: The Iowa fans, I'll say this, they are feeling very
- 11:08Speaker 2: confident today. And why wouldn't they? But they are feeling
- 11:12Speaker 2: very confident. I see a lot of predictions of actually
- 11:15Speaker 2: pretty much, I don't want to say a repeat of
- 11:18Speaker 2: 41-3 of last year, but a lot of people picking
- 11:21Speaker 2: Iowa big on the Iowa side of the field. Gopher
- 11:26Speaker 2: folks that I listen to while maybe picking Iowa, maybe
- 11:29Speaker 2: not as much, but there is that kind of gopher
- 11:32Speaker 2: thing out there because the gophers, I don't know, man,
- 11:35Speaker 2: who are they? They tease you a lot. They get
- 11:39Speaker 2: you hyped up. And then they lay an egg like
- 11:42Speaker 2: they did at Purdue. And I don't know, man. So,
- 11:47Speaker 2: you know, Gopher fans, the Gophers win. A lot of
- 11:50Speaker 2: people say they're going to win very closely. But, again,
- 11:53Speaker 2: for me, that depends on them getting some type of
- 11:56Speaker 2: running game going. And I think that's critical tomorrow. So
- 12:00Speaker 2: I hope that they can do it. I hope that
- 12:02Speaker 2: I am wrong. If you ask me right now, I
- 12:04Speaker 2: think I would probably win the game something like 30-17, 30-14, 33-14,
- 12:14Speaker 2: somewhere in there as of right now. But SportsGov's got
- 12:19Speaker 2: to tell you, man, obviously pulling for my alma mater.
- 12:22Speaker 2: It's homecoming. So let's just hope the Gophers can find
- 12:27Speaker 2: a way to pull off the upset. And keep their
- 12:30Speaker 2: season alive and going in a positive direction there tomorrow.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So that's all I really wanted to say. Just a
- 12:37Speaker 2: very quick sports done right this week. Like I said,
- 12:41Speaker 2: got some stuff I'm working on here for the next
- 12:43Speaker 2: couple weeks. Some more interviews coming up here as well.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And folks, just really from the bottom of my heart.
- 12:52Speaker 2: First off, I want to thank Charles Hallman over there
- 12:54Speaker 2: at the Minnesota Spokesman Recorder. Just posted the interview I
- 12:58Speaker 2: did with the newspaper over there. Make sure you check
- 13:00Speaker 2: it out. It is on their website. I've been posting
- 13:05Speaker 2: it on all my social medias. Go to YouTube. You
- 13:08Speaker 2: can just literally put in Minnesota Spokesman Recorder, Sports Done Right.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It should pop up for you right away. It did
- 13:14Speaker 2: for me when I tried it that way, so hopefully
- 13:16Speaker 2: it does for you as well. As of right now,
- 13:20Speaker 2: top of the six. Milwaukee Brewers are up 2-1. I
- 13:23Speaker 2: got that on the monitor here in the Situation Room.
- 13:27Speaker 2: and just real quick we'll talk a little bit more
- 13:29Speaker 2: baseball here next week as this series gets going here
- 13:32Speaker 2: but congrats to both of these teams um you know
- 13:36Speaker 2: you can call them small market whatever i don't even
- 13:39Speaker 2: like using that term it's just nice to get some
- 13:41Speaker 2: different blood in the world series you know props to
- 13:44Speaker 2: the dodgers they did it on the field all those
- 13:46Speaker 2: years but it's really nice and look i'm a cubs
- 13:49Speaker 2: fan so it kind of hurts watching these brewers just
- 13:52Speaker 2: north of shy town here but Brewers are in the
- 13:56Speaker 2: World Series for the first time since 82. Congrats to them.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Congrats to Tampa Bay. And I think this is going
- 14:02Speaker 2: to be a really good World Series. So let's see
- 14:04Speaker 2: what happens there. And with that, it's the weekend, baby.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Big Ten football. Very quickly here, just going over the
- 14:15Speaker 2: conference rankings. UCLA at the top 6-0. Ohio State and Indiana.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Indiana and Michigan play tomorrow. Excited to see the game
- 14:25Speaker 2: with Michigan's new quarterback Carr in there, and to see
- 14:30Speaker 2: if Michigan just can kind of keep their positivity going
- 14:34Speaker 2: after they benched their original quarterback there as well. Who else?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Ohio State, 4-0 in conference, 6-1 overall. USC, 6-1 overall.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Interested to see them. And let me see here. Because
- 14:54Speaker 2: The other thing I wanted to just briefly mention with
- 14:59Speaker 2: all these upsets, all these upsets last week. Whoops, just
- 15:11Speaker 2: trying to get my system up. There we go. Miami
- 15:16Speaker 2: now on top and BYU number two in the country.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Ohio State, number three. Notre Dame, number four after losing
- 15:24Speaker 2: out there in Utah. Georgia, after they lost, they're down
- 15:28Speaker 2: to five. Indiana, six. Ole Miss is seven. Texas Tech
- 15:33Speaker 2: is eight. Number nine, as we said, UCLA. And ten
- 15:36Speaker 2: is Utah. Look at Utah with two football teams in
- 15:40Speaker 2: the college football top ten. Eleven to twenty, the best
- 15:45Speaker 2: of the rest. Tennessee is eleven. Kentucky, 12. Bama is 13. Houston, 14. Iowa,
- 15:53Speaker 2: like we said, 5-1. They are at 15. So, again,
- 15:56Speaker 2: definitely playing for college football. Playoffs and seedings tomorrow here
- 16:00Speaker 2: in Minnesota for them. USC is 16. Wake Forest, 17. LSU, 5-2.
- 16:06Speaker 2: And all of a sudden, folks kind of questioning things
- 16:09Speaker 2: down in LSU at 5-2, an 18th in the country
- 16:13Speaker 2: when they were up towards the top as well. You know...
- 16:17Speaker 2: when you deal with lane, you kind of just get
- 16:18Speaker 2: to that point where you get, you get some good teams,
- 16:21Speaker 2: but you kind of hit a wall with him. It'd
- 16:23Speaker 2: be interesting to see if that is the case with
- 16:25Speaker 2: LSU going forward here in the next couple of years,
- 16:28Speaker 2: Texas all the way down to 19. And man, listen,
- 16:32Speaker 2: Arch Manning is catching hell. And obviously if his name,
- 16:37Speaker 2: his last name was anything else, he probably would not
- 16:40Speaker 2: be starting or maybe even on that team. But, Arch
- 16:45Speaker 2: seems like a good dude. He says all the right things.
- 16:47Speaker 2: His teammates seem to like him, man, but it is
- 16:50Speaker 2: just not happening down there. I don't know if his
- 16:52Speaker 2: coach is maybe the coach to work with him and
- 16:55Speaker 2: his skill set down there with Sarkeesian, but Texas all
- 16:59Speaker 2: the way down to 19th and Florida is rounding out
- 17:02Speaker 2: the top 20 at number 20. And the rest of
- 17:06Speaker 2: the top 25, Boise State is 21, Missouri 22, SMU 23.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Those pesky Northwestern Wildcats, another team Minnesota is going to
- 17:16Speaker 2: have coming up here, 5-1. They are number 24. And
- 17:21Speaker 2: Arizona rounds out the top 25, and they are 5-1.
- 17:26Speaker 2: So props to the Wildcats down there as well. All right. Gophers,
- 17:32Speaker 2: do your business. It's all about on the field. And
- 17:36Speaker 2: do you storm the field if the Gophers win? You know,
- 17:41Speaker 2: I know they will. And again, I put this on
- 17:43Speaker 2: social media too. I know they will. I don't know.
- 17:48Speaker 2: It just seems like not right still. Even if they
- 17:52Speaker 2: do win tomorrow, it's like, hey, go get the trophy, celebrate.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I don't know. But let's just get the win and
- 17:59Speaker 2: we'll go from there. If people want to storm the field,
- 18:01Speaker 2: I ain't complaining. But we just got to do it
- 18:04Speaker 2: on the field. Done talking crap, done with these chants.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Beat Iowa on the field. I am Vince Wright, the
- 18:11Speaker 2: sports governor. This is the Sports Done Right podcast. Thank
- 18:14Speaker 2: you for listening. We will be back next week. Sky
- 18:18Speaker 2: U Ma. Roll the boat. All the good stuff. Peace.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You can get your sports scattered, smothered, or covered. But
- 18:28Speaker 2: why would you when you can get your sports done right?
