- 4:31to them before applying it to you?
- 4:33Never make the Bible say what you wanted to say and surrender
- 4:36your way, at least the paragraph.
- 4:37The complete train of don't build your belief on a second
- 4:40you. God's word is not a weapon for
- 4:42defending a pride. It is living and acting, letting
- 4:46deep inside. Let it correct you, train you
- 4:50what is wrong. The context becomes clear, your
- 4:54foundation Beloved Sons, Aloha.
- 6:53Good afternoon. Thank you for joining us again
- 6:55here on the Men Helping Men radio show.
- 6:58I'm your host, Kevin Anderson, joined by our executive
- 7:01producer, Mr. Brandon Ortiz and Pastor Doug Chong, founder of
- 7:05Christ Built Ministries and Men Helping Men, and also our
- 7:08songwriter for all the amazing music we get to listen to today.
- 7:11We listen to the song Bible Basics.
- 7:15Doug That's one of the things I love about Christ Built
- 7:17Ministries is that we have a very practical application about
- 7:20how to approach God's Word, not in a Mystic sense, but in a very
- 7:25practical application in our life.
- 7:27And what was the inspiration of that, Doug?
- 7:29Why, why? Why did you create the Bible
- 7:31basics kind of the format of how to approach God's Word?
- 7:34What was your inspiration for that, Doug?
- 7:36It's getting it right. It's and and just The thing is
- 7:41when, when in in in spiritual does our spiritual walk when we
- 7:48stumble or we fail, we burn bridges, we hurt people.
- 7:53And that's the the problem. Hurt people, hurt people.
- 7:56So that voice in my head, be it Satan, be it in my own
- 7:59conscience, whatever it is, whoever it is downs me so much.
- 8:05And I think people cutting me off or or people being rude,
- 8:11they're looking down on me. That's in my own head.
- 8:13That's my own issues. And even if they were, if I
- 8:17didn't have that heart inside, I'd be able to overcome that
- 8:19God. So it's learning the house how
- 8:23now God says consider a purge when you face trials of many
- 8:27kinds. Come to me, all you who were in
- 8:29burden, and I'll give you rest. How He doesn't tell you how
- 8:34directly. And that comes with our daily
- 8:38reading or journaling or asking him.
- 8:40Lord, tell me, tell me what I have to do so I can't keep in
- 8:45step with your Holy Spirit so I don't fail.
- 8:48I don't hurt people. So it's very important to take
- 8:52the proper steps. Problem is when you skip steps
- 8:56that's when Satan comes and and remember his biggest weapon is
- 8:59what Kevin? Deception, Doug, deception.
- 9:02If we don't know God's Word, then we have nothing to fight
- 9:05against that deception. And, you know, applying the the
- 9:09Bible basics to understanding God's word, but it also it gives
- 9:14us a better understanding about who our God is that we serve.
- 9:17You know, going in the Old Testament, finding out his
- 9:19character through the Old Testament showing, finding out
- 9:22what he loves, what he hates, why he disciplines, you know,
- 9:25why he leads his people in the promised lands, why he does all
- 9:28these things. That's a character of God going
- 9:30back in the Old Testament and then moving forward from there
- 9:33into the promise of the covenant of Jesus coming for us here to
- 9:37make way to restore relationship with him.
- 9:40Doug, Right. Yes, yes.
- 9:42And and it's learning that there are 66 books in the Bible and
- 9:46they're not written directly to us.
- 9:49You know, they're written to the Israelites, his people.
- 9:53And they're different genres, different types.
- 9:55It's like if you're watching a a drama home, you're watching The
- 9:59Walking Dead. You're not taking it as fast
- 10:02comparing you watching the news now that's fact depending what
- 10:06news you're watching, but you know the different genres you
- 10:09know how much effort or or thinking you you used to put
- 10:13into it. See narrative.
- 10:14They're just telling you a story.
- 10:15So not every single detail is of divine knowledge and there's
- 10:21Nuggets of wisdom in every word that they say.
- 10:23Some people think that they read into it see and the problem is
- 10:29Kev years I was searching for the Lord and searching to of how
- 10:33to to to find him to what do I do?
- 10:37What is my part because we have a part and people say or Oh
- 10:41yeah, I hear interpreters say pastors say Jesus did it all.
- 10:46We do nothing. Even the new living translation.
- 10:49I was having a battle with with ChatGPT because the NLT new
- 10:54living translation says free gift.
- 10:56That's not in the original text. It's not free because when we
- 11:02humans today, locals today, especially if somebody says it's
- 11:06something is free and I have to give up my life.
- 11:11That's the farthest thing from free in the world.
- 11:14You don't give up anything for freedom, you know.
- 11:17So it's not free, not in the the definition of what we think free
- 11:22is and works. If you use the word works, what
- 11:26does that mean? That means we don't have to do
- 11:28anything. See, And it's they're talking
- 11:30about works of the Old Testament law.
- 11:33But we don't, we don't even know the Old Testament law.
- 11:35There's 600 laws. We don't follow it.
- 11:38We're Gentiles. We're not.
- 11:39We're not the Jews. So we're led by the spirits.
- 11:43But Satan likes to use the word works.
- 11:46He likes to use the word free. So what?
- 11:48We don't do anything. Exactly, Duggan.
- 11:51You know, it's just thinking about this as we're talking
- 11:53here. You know, if you were to build a
- 11:55house, you know, would you start off with, you can't start
- 11:58building a roof, can't start by putting up the walls, You can't
- 12:02start by putting an electrician. Electrician, you know, the
- 12:04electrical HVAC, You got to start with what the foundation,
- 12:08right, Doug? You got to build a foundation.
- 12:11And that is how the word of God needs to be read.
- 12:13Building a solid foundation, understanding on how to read and
- 12:18how to apply that every single day.
- 12:20Not just once a week when you show up to church and sit in
- 12:23that Pew and you know, clap and get excited and get your
- 12:25emotions stirred, but every single day coming to God,
- 12:28understanding who He is, his character, and everything about
- 12:32him. So we can build the house that's
- 12:34not built on shifting sand, but built on the rock.
- 12:37Yes, Kevin, when I, when I went into Bible College in my 30s and
- 12:43when when I was on Oahu for Bible college, I remember when
- 12:47we had we had graduation and some of the kids was yelling
- 12:51when I was receiving my degree. He's not he's too old to be in
- 12:57Bible. The kids are in their 20s.
- 13:03That's one of the jokers in there.
- 13:04I'm like. Reminds me of Rodney
- 13:06Dangerfield. Going back to school, but, but
- 13:10when I, when I was when I was there, I asked the the
- 13:14professors before I went into Bible college, what should I,
- 13:17what should I prepare for, you know, thinking that I have no
- 13:21clue the Bible college is different from regular college.
- 13:24They said take English and I said what?
- 13:29Because you have to write paper after paper after paper referral
- 13:33letters. And if you can't put a sentence
- 13:36together, then it's embarrassing and people don't understand what
- 13:40you're writing. So when I went back into
- 13:43college, up here, you take the placement exam I place for
- 13:48English 100, but I forgot all the basics.
- 13:52I wanted to relearn the basics. When you put what is a comma
- 13:55splice? What is a run on sentence?
- 13:57What is a fragment? So I went down to English 22 and
- 14:01he was humbling because you know you're in the lower numbers,
- 14:05you're not up to the standards of everybody else.
- 14:08But it's not about the world following the standards of the
- 14:11world. It's about learning the right
- 14:14way. So when I went up to English 100
- 14:17and you do peer reviews, meaning people trade their papers in and
- 14:20then that your neighbor, you know, corrects it.
- 14:23And it's also only be a little little corrections.
- 14:25Oh, you missed a comma here. But this is a run on sentence.
- 14:28No, a lot of the papers you have to rewrite the whole thing
- 14:31because they didn't master the basics.
- 14:34And as we get older, we know you, you take shortcuts, you'll
- 14:38feel it. People have back injuries, knee
- 14:40injuries, because they went heavy in the gym too soon.
- 14:44Yeah, I'm not building a foundation, right, Doug?
- 14:46And, you know, just talking about anything or anybody who
- 14:49does any things with, with excellence, Michael Jordan, you
- 14:53know, with all these amazing athletes, they, they practice
- 14:57the basics over and over and, and they mastered that.
- 15:00So when they mastered that, then they will protect and, and go
- 15:03into the next steps. And that's what we do at Christ
- 15:06Built Ministries. We master the basics, you know,
- 15:09and, and I had, you know, I had to dumb myself down a lot
- 15:12because, you know, I went to church for, you know, 20 plus
- 15:15years of my life and I thought I knew God's word.
- 15:17But oh boy, the revealing of that when I sat and started, you
- 15:22know, sitting learning, how about the, the daily, you know,
- 15:24the Bible basics, the daily spiritual routine, how to apply
- 15:27that, how to interpret God's Word, you know, and that that
- 15:30was a tough one for me, Doug, because you know, that voice
- 15:33coming back to that voice, right?
- 15:35You're never going to get this, you know, you know, no, that's
- 15:38too difficult, Bob. And of course, the enemy wants
- 15:40to make sure that you stay stuck and you know.
- 15:43Well, you got it. No.
- 15:44What did I ask you this morning first thing in the morning?
- 15:46Oh, you asked me just as I'm getting my day going, Kev, tell
- 15:51me your scriptures and what did I name off about 30 scriptures
- 15:54right in a row? And man, that was mind blowing
- 15:57to me because I, and I reflected on that the other day and my,
- 15:59and my journaling, just, you know, doing my daily start and
- 16:02stuff like that. I was like, wow, I'm hiding the
- 16:05word of God in my heart. Psalms 1/19/11 that I might not
- 16:09sin against you. Proverbs 423, Matthew 713 and 14
- 16:13on and on. And you know, I haven't heard
- 16:16you say much, but I may always build me up to of course, but
- 16:19and especially when it comes to God's word, you know, this
- 16:22morning was a real good validation.
- 16:24And I want to thank you for that, for recognizing that, you
- 16:26know what, I'm, I'm making that sacrifice.
- 16:29And that's what it takes, right? To show up and make that
- 16:31sacrifice then to master the basics.
- 16:33And that's what you've taught me.
- 16:35And lo and behold, you know, here we sit on this radio here,
- 16:38you know, six months later and I'll do our 27th, 28th episode
- 16:41here, man, I tell you what, what a blessing, Doug, to to be here
- 16:45so. Yeah, and good job, Kevin.
- 16:47And that's the thing people don't realize, like you were
- 16:49saying about the Michael Jordan's and the Kobe Bryant's
- 16:52and the all the great athletes, you know, Larry Birds, they,
- 16:57they, it's what they do after practice.
- 17:00See people practice and they're at a high level already.
- 17:02It's they go the extra 10 miles. So it's always memorizing
- 17:07Scripture people when they watch me train in anything that I
- 17:10meant, but especially in God with God, I, my mom is too much.
- 17:15That's too much. It can never be.
- 17:18It can be too much if I neglect everyone else.
- 17:21But I mean, usually it's not enough.
- 17:23God has to be on our mind all the time.
- 17:26And because I've stumbled and fell so many times, I got to
- 17:30literally hug the vine, you know, cling to the vine.
- 17:35I have to keep him on my mind all the time because it's so
- 17:38easy to drift into the negative thoughts and because I'm a first
- 17:43born. We read this birth order book
- 17:45and the birth order book says the first borns, male or female,
- 17:48oldest male or female, are usually the leaders.
- 17:52Now, 70% of all the presidents of the United States are first
- 17:55borns. And it doesn't mean that other
- 17:59levels or other positioning, the youngest is not leaders.
- 18:03It's just you got to work harder.
- 18:04And the youngest usually are the people person.
- 18:07They're the jokers. Most comedians in Hollywood are
- 18:09youngest and easy going path is paying for them, you know, so,
- 18:15so it's just annoying when you when you're a first born, your
- 18:18brain never turns off at times and that can be a negative.
- 18:22So that's the hard. Doug, it's so funny and the
- 18:24reason why I'm laughing here is because here's a guy who's a
- 18:27first born working with two youngest and and you know, Doug
- 18:33is so passionate and he's so on fire.
- 18:36He's so lit for God every single day.
- 18:38It's like all day long and it's like, you know, us, Brandon and
- 18:42I is being, you know, you know, the youngest.
- 18:44It's like, you know, come on, Doug, slow down and he's like,
- 18:47Nope, we're not taking our foot off the gas man.
- 18:50We are in this to win this and that's the heart of Christ built
- 18:53men. Here is we're in that where this
- 18:55is no joke to us. This is our life.
- 18:57This is eternity for us, Doug and man, we have to like and
- 19:00master the basics so we can then begin to come off of the milk,
- 19:05as it were, get into the meat. And that's the transition of
- 19:08growing and building a relationship with God every
- 19:11single day. Yeah, and, and on Kevin and
- 19:13Brandon's side, they taught me a lot because I can't exasperate
- 19:18people. I can just push, push, push,
- 19:20push, push, push. And like I said, they're,
- 19:24they're the youngest. So they're people, people they
- 19:26can talk and they hang out and I'm like, come on, we're on a
- 19:28time schedule. So it's, it's the balance of me,
- 19:31not always me learning from them and relaxing.
- 19:34Sometimes it's not all about business.
- 19:37At times it's, it's relaxing and we still can get it done.
- 19:41Focus on the main things. Like I told you, the little
- 19:44things we can adjust here and there, but it's the main your
- 19:46relationship with God is what I'm concerned about.
- 19:49You study, not Did you Polish the cars?
- 19:52Is it covered? You know all the little things.
- 19:54We can work as we go, but looking at perfection too soon.
- 19:58Parents out there, you want to look at the main goals, the main
- 20:02goal, the goal that you have. The strategy to get to that goal
- 20:06and the steps in the strategy, don't focus on all of them
- 20:10because what will happen is, you know, you overwhelm the kids.
- 20:13See, with Kevin and Brandon, the main thing I have been focused
- 20:16on is relationship. The relationship with God is #1
- 20:21the obedience to God comes after the relationship.
- 20:24I mean, they'll walk it out. They won't majorly sin, but the
- 20:27heart won't comply until there's a connection to God.
- 20:30Exactly, And that's what's happened with me and Brandon, of
- 20:33course, as we've sat with you, Doug, and, and learned, you
- 20:37know, a key element of, of actually building a relationship
- 20:40through understanding on word, God's word is that art of
- 20:44submission. And, you know, as a 62 year old
- 20:47guy here, you know, having to submit to somebody who's younger
- 20:49than me, you know, it's kind of humbling at first, but I tell
- 20:52you what, there's a, there's a real blessing in that.
- 20:55There's a real freedom in that to be able to do that.
- 20:57And I wouldn't be able to do that unless my heart's changed.
- 21:00And what's changed? My heart, Doug is spending time
- 21:02with God every day and getting you to know him, coming before
- 21:06him every day, learning the basics and then starting, like I
- 21:08said, to begin to crawl and then start to walk.
- 21:12And then, you know, coming to, you know, you know, fulfillment
- 21:16of having you as our leader, our guide to make sure that you're
- 21:19watching over as just as Paul said, he's watching over his
- 21:23sheep feeding us every single day.
- 21:25And that's what Christ both is about is making sure that we are
- 21:28equipped for eternity. Yeah.
- 21:32And that's that's exactly it, Kevin.
- 21:34And I just was thinking when you were saying about, you know,
- 21:37watching over you, I used to growing up in K and I, we had
- 21:40chickens fighting chickens, you know, so the Mongoose, everybody
- 21:43knows they're, they're good hunters.
- 21:46And so in the chicken coop, once they can dig underneath the coop
- 21:50and they can get their head under, their whole body can
- 21:52slide right on there. And although the chickens have a
- 21:55perch, they'll jump close to the, the chicken and the chicken
- 22:00will freak out, jump off the perch and fly.
- 22:03They can't fly long. And once they hit the ground,
- 22:04it's over. So I would have to get the
- 22:07metal, metal roofing, right, the tin roofing.
- 22:10Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig. So they can't dig under it.
- 22:14But point I'm making is if you don't keep an eye on those
- 22:17chickens and protect them, they'll be snatched right from
- 22:20out from under you. Just like my, my family, we
- 22:23think parents, we think we have a long time with our children.
- 22:28We don't. And you know, when they move
- 22:30out, they can be living 2 miles away from you.
- 22:32You won't see them. So it's it's because of
- 22:35technology today, it doesn't benefit fit us.
- 22:38It's a burden. I see people that tasty crust
- 22:42eating and they're looking on their phones.
- 22:44They don't converse See growing up in Canada, we had no cable.
- 22:47And when we first moved on when we were growing up, we had we
- 22:50had the party line phone with the neighbors on the line
- 22:53talking about talking about ancient.
- 22:56So you have to actually talk to each other back then and that's
- 23:00the old Hawaiian days. They sat on one plot of land out
- 23:03who was from birth to death. I mean, they, they had
- 23:07relationships. That's that's wearing thin.
- 23:11Exactly, Doug and we talked about a story this morning
- 23:13whereby I bought my daughter a phone for her 13th birthday and
- 23:17she gave it back to me because one of the things she said that
- 23:19she hated me with this screen time, it consumed my life.
- 23:23We have so many distractions here to get us away from the
- 23:25basics of staying connected to God every single day and
- 23:29building that heart relationship with Him.
- 23:31That's why we're here. That's the 5th of main sin was
- 23:34that Adam and Eve separated that relationship from God and now we
- 23:38are are. The rest of our life should be
- 23:40spent pursuing that relationship and that connection back to Him.
- 23:44And we can only do that when we understand who God is through
- 23:47His Word. Yes and and the 2 greatest
- 23:50commands is loving God and loving others.
- 23:53So it's it's relationship with God, relationships with each
- 23:56other. So as we spend time with God, he
- 23:59says don't be anxious about anything but in everything by
- 24:02prayer and petition with Thanksgiving present your
- 24:04request to God and the peace of God, which transcends all
- 24:07understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ
- 24:10Jesus. Philippians 46 so transcends all
- 24:14understanding. He's looking for the sacrifice.
- 24:17When you seek me, you will find all the time, no, when you seek
- 24:21me with all your heart. So it's not the feeling of of
- 24:25doing it, it's the commitment. It's when you don't feel like
- 24:29spending time with God and you do.
- 24:31That's the act of love. Absolutely.
- 24:33Hey, thank you for joining us today here in Men Helping Men.
- 24:36Listen to the song as we come back in on the bottom of the
- 24:39hour here. Blessings to you all.

- 25:17I'm John Saucier, President Trump speaking at Red Rock
- 25:19Casinos in Las Vegas, NV, blasting the Senate primary win
- 25:23of democratic socialist Abdul. I'll say in in Michigan, the
- 25:26polls were wrong again last night when they thought it would
- 25:29be a landslide victory for a hater of Jews and a hater of
- 25:33Israel. This guy hates Jews.
- 25:36Somebody said, oh, that's a little strong.
- 25:39No, he hates Jews and he hates Israel.
- 25:40Well, the now Democratic Senate candidates celebrating his
- 25:43victory, the supporters during a press conference in Detroit
- 25:45criticized his opponent, Republican Mike Rogers, who
- 25:48claims he's only interested in serving the interests of
- 25:50President Trump and corporate donors.
- 25:51Mike Rogers is a guy who, believe it or not, went back to
- 25:55Florida so he can lick every single boot Donald Trump owns to
- 25:59beg for his endorsement. I'm so sorry.
- 26:02If you want a senator who's going to lick some boots, fine,
- 26:04go vote for Mike Rogers. America's listening to Fox News.

- 27:36I'm staff meteorologist Paul Trombley.
- 27:39Currently it's 87°. Welcome back to Men Helping Men
- 34:30here this afternoon, Wednesday afternoon.
- 34:32Joining us again is Brandon, our executive producer and pastor.
- 34:36Doug sitting here actually fellowshipping and just haven't
- 34:39got in our heart all day long. Top of the hour we talked about
- 34:42the Bible basics. Next song was our start in our
- 34:45daily spiritual routine where we start our day in the morning and
- 34:50we finish our day at night with God in our heart all the time.
- 34:54Just as if you were building a relationship with somebody that
- 34:57you wanted to potentially get married to.
- 34:59You'd want to spend your entire day waking up, getting to know
- 35:02them, talking to them, listening to them.
- 35:05In fact, they'll you always say, if you had the opportunity to
- 35:08sit with somebody who you admire and look up to, what would you
- 35:11do more talking or listening? And of course, our days are
- 35:14filled with conversation and listening to God throughout the
- 35:17day, starting your day off, getting before God and then all
- 35:22the way throughout the day. You know, just reflecting on
- 35:24yesterday and I'm getting up in the morning, sitting by the
- 35:27pool, doing my start, getting out the door to work, listening
- 35:31to the word on the way into my do my pickups.
- 35:34And then at my stops, I got my journal there.
- 35:37I'm going and I'm reflecting, I'm memorizing scripture, I'm
- 35:40talking. I got God in my heart all the
- 35:42time every day. And then when I go to bed at
- 35:45night, I do my clothes having that conversation with God,
- 35:48reflecting on my day, how could have, what could have done
- 35:50better, what could have done different.
- 35:52So that is the spiritual routine that Christ built ministry we
- 35:55follow. And it's about building
- 35:57relationships, spending time just like we want to spend time
- 36:00getting to know somebody to have part of our life as a husband or
- 36:03a wife dog. Yeah, and that's our.
- 36:05Part that is the covenant Testament means covenant or
- 36:09agreement. Jesus died on the cross for us
- 36:12to what to re to introduce us to God that his grace because of
- 36:18his love for us. Now his God's grace covers us.
- 36:21Now we have an opportunity to get to know God the father.
- 36:25Now if we don't want to we don't have to.
- 36:27That's why he didn't wire it in us like dogs they they
- 36:31reproduce. They breed my male dog you got
- 36:34to you got to grab it. You got to cage him and he
- 36:36whimpers because my female dog Milios in he he's wired that
- 36:41way. God didn't wire us to love him.
- 36:44He could have, but love has to be a choice.
- 36:47And that's why it's hard because we have to sacrifice our time,
- 36:52TV, phone, talking to other people, sports, family for God
- 36:59and that is a challenge. It's easier for a camera to
- 37:01enter the I have a needle than a rich person to enter the Kingdom
- 37:04of heaven and rich in deeds. Now we have a lot of things that
- 37:07can consume our time. We may not consider ourselves
- 37:10rich. We're not like Bezos or
- 37:12Zuckerberg, but we're a rich nation.
- 37:14We got $1000 phones. We got nice cars.
- 37:17We don't go, we don't we don't go hungry.
- 37:20And we have more than we deserve.
- 37:22We have things that take away from our time.
- 37:24We got just imagine if we were in prison.
- 37:27Prison was a blessing. And I would tell them that when
- 37:30I was a chaplain, I said, you know, you guys are blessed me
- 37:32here. They look at me like, are you
- 37:33crazy? The only reason why I could say
- 37:35that without getting mobbed is because I was in prison, so I
- 37:40had prison credit. But I took it.
- 37:43I took advantage of that time when I was away from my family.
- 37:47It broke my heart, but I wanted to make that time count.
- 37:50I had the keyword time. You got to make the time.
- 37:54And Doug, you always say? That, you know, love is an
- 37:57action. It's not a feeling.
- 37:59It's not an emotion that drives us and there's, you know, when,
- 38:03especially speaking, seeking God, a relationship with God
- 38:06because we're so geared in our life to go by emotion.
- 38:10And it's again, when we don't have that emotion, like you
- 38:13said, it's not wired into us. But when we make that sacrifice,
- 38:17that's the act of love, to show up and seek God even when we
- 38:22don't feel like it. Exactly.
- 38:24Especially when you don't feel like, see, when we feel like it,
- 38:28anybody can do it. You don't need God to do things
- 38:31that you feel like doing it. It's loving our enemy.
- 38:36When do we feel like loving our enemy?
- 38:38You know, never. But God can remove that
- 38:42bitterness and that hurt that that wound he can heal in our
- 38:46hearts. So we don't have diesel in our
- 38:48engine, so to speak. Like I said, diesel will make
- 38:50our, no matter how big your truck is, how big the tires are,
- 38:54it'll make your, your vehicle malfunction.
- 38:56Diesel, although it's a fuel, not the fuel for the engine of
- 39:00our regular cars here. Anger.
- 39:03Hate, bitterness, unforgiveness isn't has no place in my heart.
- 39:08He doesn't tell me to love my enemy because my enemy deserves
- 39:12it. He tells me to love my enemy
- 39:14because he doesn't want me to hurt again.
- 39:16It's like drinking poison and wishing somebody was dead.
- 39:20I'm killing myself. My enemy is, is, is having a
- 39:22time of their life. They're living their own life.
- 39:24I'm in my own bitter bubble. Right?
- 39:27Right. Exactly.
- 39:27Doug And you know, we can really only love like that.
- 39:32And I've experienced and you've taught me through building that
- 39:34daily relationship, starting off in our in our routine, going
- 39:38throughout the day. And what's the what's the
- 39:40byproduct of that is our hearts get healed.
- 39:43So then we want more of God and more of a relationship.
- 39:47And I witnessed this last week in my life where I had, you
- 39:50know, a personal testimony where something came up in my life.
- 39:53And normally it would bring me to my knees.
- 39:56And it was an that was the the fingerprint of God validating
- 40:00saying Kev. This is working because Doug,
- 40:03when I sat with him, hey, I promise you, I guarantee boom,
- 40:06do this and God will heal your heart and you'll start to having
- 40:10a deeper relationship with God and understanding why, why it's
- 40:13important to make that sacrifice.
- 40:14So I just wanted to say, you know, grand.
- 40:18I always give you credit, Doug, because I'm in my place in my
- 40:21life, because I, number one, made the choice to make the
- 40:25sacrifice, to step all in. Not halfway.
- 40:28I didn't feel like it a lot of time, but I didn't go by my
- 40:31feelings. I went by what I knew was the
- 40:33process of getting my heart healed, to build that daily
- 40:36relationship. Yeah, Kevin.
- 40:38God says in his word, Proverbs 1320.
- 40:41He who walks with the wise, the wise.
- 40:43So because you walk with me? No, I'm just joking.
- 40:47Because I push you to. God, you become wise when you
- 40:51listen to Him now in the morning when you start your day, that is
- 40:54admitting your sins. So we fall short when we at at
- 40:58the end of the day that L is to to to grade ourselves.
- 41:02Look back at our day. What grade would I give myself?
- 41:04I never got hired in a seat yet, You know, it's just I I should
- 41:08be more grateful. I should be more loving, you
- 41:10know, and I pray for my heart to change every day.
- 41:13And the the the. Important part is the reflection
- 41:17reflecting on my walk, you know, and when I the more I love the
- 41:21Lord, the more love I have to give to others, the more love I
- 41:25have to overflow on to other people.
- 41:27It's when the hurt is there or the negativity is there, that's
- 41:32when the challenge comes. That's but that's the true test.
- 41:36It's applying his word in these storms.
- 41:39And that's why if you don't spend time with God, you don't
- 41:41We don't just memorize his word so we we can say it, say it in
- 41:46in in order or say it and impress people.
- 41:49No, it's that's the sword to get through the storms.
- 41:52When everything in US is telling drink, take pain pills, you
- 41:56know, whatever our little emotional cocktail is to cope
- 42:00with the problems of life, that voice is telling us to do it.
- 42:05Drugs, you know, other other women, other men, whatever it
- 42:08is, you know, another partner, adultery.
- 42:12So anything but God. And God is saying stay the
- 42:17course, apply my word to your life, Philippians, lift it up to
- 42:21me. Think of the blessings you have
- 42:23and stay on the path. And after we get through that
- 42:27storm, you feel the you feel the presence of the Lord, we're
- 42:31going to feel scared. Where does the peace come from?
- 42:33It comes from our knowledge of walking with Him every day.
- 42:37We know He's with us. It doesn't matter how we feel
- 42:41intellectually and in our hearts, we know He's with us.
- 42:45We don't go by feeling like Kevin said, Love is an action A2
- 42:49a baby, an infant is crying at 2O clock in the morning.
- 42:53How many parents want to get up and change the baby and feed
- 42:55them? They do it because they love
- 42:58them and that's. The that's the action and that's
- 43:00the discipline of love. You know, Doug and I was just
- 43:03thinking about something. You know, when the storms of
- 43:05life do come and we do get distracted, it's most important
- 43:09at that moment, just like when the storms are raging around the
- 43:12boat and and you know, got the disciples are in the boat and
- 43:17Jesus sound asleep and come on, wake up, you don't come.
- 43:20What's going on? And and what did he do?
- 43:22He calmed the storm. But it's important for us that
- 43:25we can only calm the storms in life.
- 43:27And we know how to do that. It's not, it's not hoping.
- 43:31It's not, you know, that Mystic idea that God's going to calm
- 43:34the storm. When we have that intimate
- 43:36relationship with Him, we understand that He's there for
- 43:39us in the midst of those most challenging times of our life.
- 43:42Yes, and. There's going to be signs.
- 43:45He's going to give you signs. We call it altars, that you know
- 43:49He's there where things that cannot be explained.
- 43:52What is a miracle? A miracle is something that
- 43:54science cannot explain. Jesus being risen from the dead
- 43:58three days after three days of death, Lazarus, 4 days.
- 44:02Science cannot explain that. That's called a miracle.
- 44:04How do you know it's spiritual when lot when it doesn't make
- 44:07sense logically? This doesn't doesn't make sense.
- 44:10Why is this happening in my life?
- 44:12I'm saying cuz Kev, this is a training.
- 44:15This is not where you walk on the yellow brick road.
- 44:18This is when you cling to God, you know, and it's not major
- 44:24events happening in your life like death, but it feels like
- 44:28it. And that's how you know it's
- 44:30spiritual And that's the test and that's the the blessing.
- 44:33That's why he says, consider pure joy when we face trials or
- 44:37problems of any kind And we have a song.
- 44:39Thank you for the problems in our lives.
- 44:41Those problems are there. For the very strategic reason to
- 44:45build our hope and our faith in Jesus keeping eyes on him every
- 44:51single day and you know for those of you listening out there
- 44:54that it may sound like well, you know there's so much God so yeah
- 44:57you know what absolutely so much God.
- 44:59We have to have that in our lives.
- 45:00So we're going to, you know, make that to make that goal in
- 45:03our life to it for eternity. We and when we don't live our
- 45:07lives from seeing this world that we're living in from that
- 45:10eternal perspective, yeah, this becomes a job, as it were.
- 45:13But you know what the reward is a relationship with God for
- 45:16eternity, right? Doug and I got I.
- 45:19I got one of my cars when I was younger I'm in high school.
- 45:21I I lifted my Jeep from K and I we had mud bombs back then.
- 45:25So I lifted one of my vehicles today with big tires on it.
- 45:28It doesn't it doesn't function like it did when it had the
- 45:31regular size tires on it. I have to go slower.
- 45:35It weaves, you know, I mean, it's top heavy now.
- 45:37So it's it's different. I change it from its original,
- 45:42the original way the manufacturer manufactured it.
- 45:46We engineered it and that's Oscar.
- 45:48If we don't focus or we don't function in the area that we
- 45:54were created to function in, we will malfunction.
- 45:57We think we're functioning right.
- 45:58But that's like when I used to drink a lot.
- 46:01I mean, I, I quit drinking about four years ago, but back in the
- 46:04day, like in my 20s, I woke up with a hangover every morning
- 46:07and it was like normal. That's the normal way of
- 46:09feeling. I didn't know how to feel
- 46:12regular because normally I wake up with a hangover until I stop
- 46:16drinking and then I'm like, wow. The point I'm making is when we
- 46:20start walking in alignment with God, we'll see how much easier.
- 46:25In the beginning, it's going to be hard because we're changing
- 46:27and we don't like change. After we change, however, you'll
- 46:30see the love. We'll see how we can forgive.
- 46:34We can read God's Word and we're able to do what he wants us to
- 46:39do. And it's not because it's
- 46:40commands. It's because this is how we're
- 46:43supposed to be from the beginning.
- 46:45But sin came in and our parents didn't teach us this.
- 46:50Exactly, Doug and. You know, you made a comment,
- 46:52you make this comment often to Doug talking about commands
- 46:55working out. Once you have that relationship
- 46:58with God, the commands are not burdensome.
- 47:02There you, you want to please God because you know what he's
- 47:06done for you. You know what had the sacrifice
- 47:08that he made for you. So men, step it up, step it up,
- 47:12step it up, be willing to make that sacrifice show up every
- 47:16day. And that's what our coming back
- 47:18to the top of the hour Bible basics, not understanding God in
- 47:21his word, coming to our daily spiritual routine.
- 47:23And that's the daily application of getting to build that daily
- 47:28loving relationship with God. Yeah, and that's a.
- 47:30Routine to keep us on track and that's all biblically based
- 47:35where we hide our word in in his word in our hearts so we will
- 47:39not sin against him. That's our sword.
- 47:41When Satan is trying to deceive us, we know know what to do.
- 47:44That's like going to the gym and not having a plan.
- 47:48And you see people in the gym, they just wander around and they
- 47:51look the same year after year after year.
- 47:53There is no change with us. It has to be strategic according
- 47:58to God's word. Don't go on trusting in your
- 48:02heart. Jeremiah 17/9 The heart is
- 48:05deceitful above all things. It's beyond cure.
- 48:08We cannot cure it. In other words, only God can.
- 48:11Matthew 721 through 23. The heart is wicked, it's evil,
- 48:16it's self-centered and selfish. So you cannot trust your heart
- 48:21unless it's transformed by the Holy Spirit using His Word.
- 48:25No, His word will be what comes out of our heart.
- 48:29Lovejoy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness,
- 48:32gentleness and self-control will be overflowing when the Holy
- 48:35Spirit is in US and He unclogs those hardened arteries.
- 48:40Yeah. And that can only come, Doug,
- 48:42just as we said, if we want to get to know somebody, we want to
- 48:45spend time every day with them. And spending time with God ends
- 48:49up bringing that healing to our hearts.
- 48:51So then we have that hunger in our hearts to actually want to
- 48:54spend time with him, but we can't do that unless we have the
- 48:57word hidden in it. And it becomes a light into our
- 49:01path and a light into our our Rd. that we walk.
- 49:04And so so vital for us as as Christ built Christians, Christ
- 49:08built men. And for those of you that are
- 49:09listening out there, those of you that have that hurt in your
- 49:11heart, how are you going to do that?
- 49:13You know, counseling, medication, psychology,
- 49:16whatever. Those are the band aids that we
- 49:18put on over top of us. But the true way to heal and
- 49:23live a life for God is to get in His Word, get your heart healed
- 49:27and build that daily relationship.
- 49:29Yes, and that's. When his, his divine power will
- 49:33come and guarantee. And when I was the chaplain of
- 49:35the prison here, that was the best training ground because
- 49:39nothing majorly changes in their life.
- 49:41They do the same thing every day pretty much.
- 49:45So when the spiritual routine is implemented into their life, you
- 49:48see change. When it's removed, you see the
- 49:53not even the drift back. You see it in fall back.
- 49:55Come on. I mean like clockwork.
- 49:59And everyone. Else sees the change in them,
- 50:01including the guards they see the change in.
- 50:04And for some reason, God gave me the worst inmates, the most
- 50:07challenging ones, put it that way.
- 50:10And I didn't go and recruit. I just went in there.
- 50:13The Holy Spirit said, just just be present.
- 50:15I'm going to bring people that I want you to train to lead.
- 50:18And sure enough, he brought people to me.
- 50:21And they, I see them out here now and they're, they're still,
- 50:24they still know the Lord Hard part is now when you're in the
- 50:27current of the world, if your roots aren't deep to make the
- 50:30time to spend with him. Even if I've been walking with
- 50:33the Lord 20 plus years is a struggle to read still, because
- 50:39remember, we're not just doing this alone.
- 50:41What does that mean? Satan is our enemy.
- 50:43He's prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone
- 50:46to devour first Peter 589. He's looking to steal, kill and
- 50:51destroy. He's trying to talk me into not
- 50:54reading, not. Spending.
- 50:55Time with God. I got it already.
- 50:58You know already you don't have to do it.
- 50:59Come on down. Doug and I, and I witness that
- 51:01myself, you know, as easy as it may sound, you know, to, you
- 51:05know, to adhere to this, you know, spiritual routine.
- 51:09I noticed just even one day, if I don't do my start, if I don't
- 51:13at least read some scripture, man, we drift away really
- 51:17quickly again, because that's not wired in us.
- 51:20Like you said, Doug, we have to make that sacrifice every day,
- 51:24correct? And it's no.
- 51:25Remember, it's not a religion. It's not religious.
- 51:29Come on. What does that mean?
- 51:30Come on, that means when we read and we pray for the Holy Spirit
- 51:34to change our hearts. Help me to want to Father, help
- 51:37me to love you. And we continuously make the
- 51:41effort denying ourselves. Paul says I punish my body like
- 51:45an athlete, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should
- 51:48not what it wants to. Otherwise, I fear after
- 51:51enlisting others for the race, so to speak, race to heaven.
- 51:54I myself may be declared unfit in order to stand the sign.
- 51:59So the main part is our relationship.
- 52:01We got not the works now, not the good deeds, not going out
- 52:06and paying homes or or helping the, the, the line of fire
- 52:10victims, which is great, but what, what, how do we, how do we
- 52:13want to help? But what is the core because we
- 52:15love the Lord, we love them, so we want to help.
- 52:19Come on, Doug. And that's what we're here for.
- 52:21Men helping men to build. Christ built strong men.
- 52:25Thank you again for joining us here this Wednesday afternoon.
