Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / The Real Reason My Brother Mike Wallace Entered The Daytona 500 at Age 65 | Coffee With Kenny
Transcript
- 0:02Happy Friday morning, everybody. I'm jacked up on my high octane
- 0:09coffee fueled by Sunoco. All right, well, there there's
- 0:15excitement in the air right here in Arnold, MO.
- 0:18It's beautiful today. The sun's shining, but we got
- 0:21big snow moving in. Everybody running to get all the
- 0:25bread and milk, crowd gone crazy.
- 0:30All right, deep breath yesterday, on Thursday, my
- 0:36brother Mike Wallace. All right, now, here's the way
- 0:39it goes. I'm the youngest.
- 0:41I'm 61. Mike is 65, and Big Brother
- 0:46Rusty is 67. So brother Mike called me and
- 0:51said Herman, I am going to attempt to run the Daytona 500
- 0:57this year, 2025. And you know what?
- 1:02Because he's my brother and I know everything about him.
- 1:05I didn't even say why. I did not say why to Mike.
- 1:11Now I want to say that two times because I think it's very
- 1:15important. When my 65 year old brother
- 1:18said, Herman, I'm going to attempt to run the Daytona 500
- 1:23in 2025, I did not say why. I just said, OK, what do we need
- 1:29to do? And Mike said, well, Herm, he
- 1:33says you're really good on that social media and you got a hell
- 1:36of a show. He says, I'd like to know if you
- 1:38would help me announce it. And I said I'd love to, brother.
- 1:43Now I want to let you all know a little behind the scenes, my Big
- 1:47Brother Rusty Wallace on Christmas Eve, Chris, I don't
- 1:52know when it was Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the day after
- 1:55Christmas, something like that. Big Brother Rusty went and got
- 2:01my mom and and got M3 of them. Now I wasn't down there because
- 2:05I live here in Arnold, MO, home of the big one.
- 2:11So those three went to a beautiful, you know, immediate
- 2:17family get together. Our dad passed away October
- 2:2030th, 2011. My brother Mike, my brother
- 2:25Mike's wife passed away OK, just not long ago.
- 2:31So Rusty did a really good deed, right?
- 2:34I mean, when you get a little older and you you lose your
- 2:37loved ones, becomes very lonely during the holidays.
- 2:41So at that time, my brother Mike looked at Rusty and my mom and
- 2:47said, hey, I'm going to run Daytona 500 this year.
- 2:50And you know what? Rusty Wallace, Mama Judy said OK
- 2:56And I said OK. Now I'm doing this coffee with
- 2:59Kenny to let y'all know the back story.
- 3:03Mike lost his wife, you know, my mom's by herself.
- 3:08So a big shout out to my Big Brother Rusty.
- 3:11That was awesome brother. I love you so much as I love my
- 3:15whole family. So Mike, Mike Wallace is one of
- 3:22the best restrictor plate racers in NASCAR history.
- 3:28History. That's the way Mark Martin would
- 3:31say he'd say history. Now, everybody knows that Mike
- 3:37ran forth in the Daytona 500 in that James Finch black O9 car.
- 3:44Mike, as Mike won the very first truck race at Daytona.
- 3:50Did you know that brother Mike, Brother Mike Wallace won the
- 3:55very first truck race ever held at Daytona?
- 4:00Brother Mike also won an Xfinity race at Daytona.
- 4:05Are you? Are you, are you starting to
- 4:06understand here a little bit? Mike knows what he's doing.
- 4:12OK, Mike Wallace knows what he's doing.
- 4:17OK, Now, I just gave you his stats and what he's up to now.
- 4:22I want to dress. He's 65 years old.
- 4:26He hasn't been in a car since the early 1800s.
- 4:30Well, I understand that. And so I'm.
- 4:34I'm going to address it now. We not mad.
- 4:38We not mad. We not going.
- 4:40Are you crazy? See my eyes?
- 4:44He is he crazy? Is Mike Wallace crazy?
- 4:48No, he's not crazy. Mike is is being a true
- 4:54American. He's living out his dream.
- 4:56He needs to do this. That damn dog.
- 5:00Get over here. I'm going to kick your ass.
- 5:09We got these two dogs down here. Let's go see what's up.
- 5:12Hey, come here. What are you doing?
- 5:18What are you guys doing? Get your butt in here.
- 5:23Get your butt in here. Come on.
- 5:26They're literally barking for Dee, not Kim, to get up.
- 5:32They got control of the ladies. Look at this one.
- 5:36Come on. Get on over here.
- 5:37Now I'm trying to do coffee with Kenny.
- 5:41So if the dogs start barking again, we're going to ignore
- 5:44them. OK, That was you got.
- 5:48That's Yoda. Yoda is barking for Dee to get
- 5:52out of bed. Get out of bed.
- 5:56But since this coffee, Kenny, we don't stop.
- 5:58We don't edit. I'll just show you what the
- 6:00Hell's going on. And yes, that's a Martinsville
- 6:05clock right there. Right there.
- 6:09And that's the ladder, Dale, Dale Junior, he's so awesome.
- 6:15Dale Earnhardt Junior goes Hermann, is that a damn ladder
- 6:18in your house? I said, Oh my God, it was during
- 6:21the summer and there was nothing on it.
- 6:22I said no. I said, that's what we hang.
- 6:25That's what we hang all the blankets on.
- 6:28So the ladder usually is over there, but we got all the dogs
- 6:32here. It's like damn romper room here.
- 6:36It's like, it's like a damn man, it's Animal House.
- 6:39That's right, it's Animal House. So anyway, Mike getting back to
- 6:43brother Mike, why is Mike doing this?
- 6:46Is he too old? Is he going to crash?
- 6:49Does he not know how to shift the car?
- 6:53Some people are asking legitimate questions.
- 7:00So I want to go to Herman Schrader for a little bit.
- 7:04About 2-3 weeks ago on Herman Schrader, we did a, we did a
- 7:10little segment on Martin Truex in, in the coming, in the near
- 7:16future. Should, should Martin Truex get
- 7:19in and out of NASCAR? You know, should, should Martin
- 7:22Truex run 3 or 4 races next year?
- 7:24Now we brought this up because Kevin Harvick, Kevin Harvick
- 7:28said I wouldn't do that. Kevin Harvick said, you know,
- 7:33Martin Trux should not get in and out of NASCAR, the Cup
- 7:37Series you're either in or out, OK.
- 7:41And Kenny Schrader said said it perfect.
- 7:44He said, can Martin Trux go to Daytona?
- 7:47No problem. Daytona, Talladega are the type
- 7:50of tracks where you know you can do it.
- 7:55It's it's not as difficult as the other tracks.
- 8:03However, once you start drafting, it's everything.
- 8:07Drafting is artwork drafting. You have to have a lot of
- 8:11knowledge to go through traffic. But as far as letting off the
- 8:15gas and braking and, you know, going on to Vegas or, you know,
- 8:20Martinsville or something like that, you can't do that.
- 8:25So Kenny Schrader, I'm going to go by what Kenny Schrader says,
- 8:29You know, can Martin Trutz go to Daytona and be fine?
- 8:33Yeah. OK, It, it's the, the, the rate
- 8:37of difficulty going to Daytona is way lower than any other
- 8:41track. OK, so can Mike Wallace, who has
- 8:46not been in a Cup car for 9 years, can he go to Daytona and
- 8:50go through the gear? Watch.
- 8:51I'm going to show you watch. It's called sequential shifting.
- 9:02No problem. Sure, you could be 75 years old
- 9:06and do that. Now the question about will he
- 9:10be dangerous? Will he be in danger racing?
- 9:13Is he going to wreck the field? Is Mike going to wreck the
- 9:15field? Is he going to be 65 years ago?
- 9:18Oh, I don't know where I'm at. I'm, I'm, I'm, I might wreck the
- 9:20field. Is Mike going to do that?
- 9:24What I do is I exaggerate shit just to make my point.
- 9:30Well, do you know if Mike makes the race, he won't be the oldest
- 9:34person to do that. There's another gentleman in
- 9:362018 that made the race OK that was 66 years old.
- 9:42So the degree of difficulty for brother Mike doing this is much
- 9:46lower than going to Martinsville or going anywhere else.
- 9:50And I'll leave you with this. Mike's got to get this out of
- 9:55his system. He lost his wife, he's lonely.
- 10:00It's America baby. It's a dream of his.
- 10:03Let him be, let him be. Why is Red Farmer still racing
- 10:09at 90 years old at Talladega? Why Kenny Schrader getting ready
- 10:13to turn 70 and he's still winning against the 25 year old
- 10:17kids? Now I know it's not the highest
- 10:19form of Motorsports and listen, this does not dilute the highest
- 10:24form of Motorsports. What it does shows it's America
- 10:29and if you qualify, you qualify. That's the way it is.
- 10:36I told you everything. I'm not going to repeat myself.
- 10:39I told you why Mike's doing it. He's given a lot of interviews.
- 10:44He gave a great interview to Matt Weaver.
- 10:46He gave a lengthy interview to me.
- 10:48Now the one we've been showing you is the minute 58 second
- 10:52video, but there's a 11-12 minute video out there of Mike.
- 10:55So if you want to know why Mike's doing this, you can go to
- 10:57those videos, but I just told you why because he can.
- 11:03All right, now what you think don't matter, but I'm giving I'm
- 11:11doing coffee with Kenny, letting you, letting you know.
- 11:15All right, when, whenever listen, do you think Mike, when
- 11:18he went to do this, he knew he knew y'all was going to say not
- 11:22y'all. But here I'll give you a
- 11:24percentage. If there's 100 people right now,
- 11:28I see about two people. There's there's 98% of the
- 11:32people are positive. There's, there's a couple of
- 11:35them that are being jerk offs, which is fine, which is fine.
- 11:40But all you did was give me content for coffee with Kenny.
- 11:45All right, Mike Wallace is going to attempt to qualify for the
- 11:50Daytona 500 because he lost his wife.
- 11:55It's been a rough year on him. And he can.
- 11:59And he just wants to be happy. OK, Let him be.
- 12:05Cheer him on. It's America, baby.
- 12:09Have a great Friday.
