When we read the Bible, context is key. We should always ask: Who is this passage written to? What is the main point that the author is trying to convey? Why and when was this written? How does this apply to our lives? Pastor John will remind us today that we can’t yank a verse out of context to justify our own plans and purposes. God inspired every book of the Bible, but that doesn’t mean that every promise applies to us, thousands of years later! Read Scripture intentionally, considering the original context.
