- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Hey, what's up, guys?
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to Surviving Politics-ish.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: I want us to talk about what is happening in real time at the highest level of the United States government, specifically inside the Department of Defense.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Because if you've been paying attention to the news over the past week, the line between criminal justice, military power, and public spectacle, it's been more than just blurred.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: It's kind of all gone now.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I want us to talk about the recent visual imagery coming out of the Pentagon.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: And most importantly, we need to talk about the announcement that the federal government plans to live stream a military execution by firing squad to the American public.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: I want us to ask our friends, acquaintances, family members a very hard question for them.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: And that is, is this what you voted for?
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Or is this the systematic normalization of state-sanctioned violence?
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: So my question to MAGA is, is this truly what you voted for?
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: So I guess earlier this month, Pete Hegseth delivered a high-profile address to the U.S.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Air Force Academy.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Immediately following that speech, commentators, graphic analysts, and citizens across the political spectrum began pointing out something striking about the stage setup.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Did y'all notice this?
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So combined with a photograph circulating of Hegseth standing before it with raised gestures, the internet exploded into debate.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: But of course, the Pentagon is going to deny any intentional connection.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: But in politics, aesthetics and symbolism are never an accident.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Symbols signal intent.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: They project power.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: They tell an audience who you are and what values you align with.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, for example, I'm bringing up my winter clothes because the seasons are changing, and I have a red sweater that I forgot how much I loved, but I can't wear it because the color red.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: So those symbols, even the American flag, like I see, if I see the American flag on someone's house, yard, car, sticker on their car, I immediately think MAGA.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: So when the military starts slapping aggressive authoritarian logos on their stages, at the exact same time they're rolling back diversity, kicking out marginalized groups, and doubling down on hostile rhetoric, you can't just ignore the background.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: None of that happens by accident.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: The visual presentation is designed to project absolute authority.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And when absolute authority becomes the brand of the military, what follows is the exertion of absolute power over human life.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: So this brings us to what just happened in the past few days.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And so he's going to get a firing squad of soldiers, as it should be.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: And we'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: People need to understand that what this is uh there's serious consequences for these types of things.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: So in an interview with Defense Secretary Pete Hexett, he confirmed the military execution of Nadal Hassan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will take place by firing squad on December 3rd, and that the execution will be publicly available to watch via live stream.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Pro-life poor children can't go to a drag show, but they can see someone being executed.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Let that sink in for a second.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: So I did some research, and the military hasn't executed anyone by firing squad since World War II.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: It hasn't executed any service member since 1961.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: But now, under direct executive orders, expanding federal execution methods to include firing squad, gas, and electrocution, the Department of Defense isn't just bringing back the lethal squad.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: They're turning it into broadcast entertainment.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: When Hegseth was asked about the protocol or if the inmate had final requests, his direct response was, don't care, we'll see him on December 3rd.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: What I want to stick to the red side of the fence is his quote, don't care, we'll see you on December 3rd.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: He says that about you all too.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: It's not just this bad guy.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: I do want to say that Nadal Hassan committed an atrocious, horrific mass murder at Fort Hood.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: 13 people died, and 32 were wounded.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Nobody is standing here defending his crime.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: But justice in a constitutional republic is supposed to be about the rule of law.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: That's where MAGA loses it, right?
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: When the state turns the taking of human life into a public spectacle broadcast on television and internet feeds, it is no longer about justice.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: It's about spectacle.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: It's about projecting fear.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: It is the modern-day equivalent to the Roman Coliseum.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: So I have a couple of questions.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Wanna Hassan?
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Why now?
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Because Hassan is an infamous, universally disliked figure, a Muslim gunman who targeted U.S.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: soldiers.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: The administration knows that testing public appetite for broadcast state violence is the easiest when you start with a target that nobody will defend.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: It's calculated, guys.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: They chose a high-profile, radically and religiously charged case to introduce the concept of live-streamed death, knowing that a fractured public will cheer and look away.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: As a survivor, as a podcast host, and as a citizen, I'm telling you, look at the pattern.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: History shows us how state violence works and never stops with the first category.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: A Theratorian expansion always follows a step-by-step playbook.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Step one to sensitize the public through symbolism and headline rhetoric.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Step two, expand the mechanism of death.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Reintroduce firing squads, gas and electrocution at the federal level.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Step three.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Make execution a public broadcast.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Conditioning the public to accept state-sanctioned violence as normal evening viewing.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Step four.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Explain the definition of who qualifies for the ultimate punishment.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Step four needs to be terrifying for everyone.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Read Project 2025.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Listen to Donald Trump when he tells you who the enemy from within is.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: We are all the enemy from within.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: So the administration has already issued Department of Justice memos calling for widespread expansions of capital punishment, targeting nonviolent offenses, immigration-related crimes, and drug distribution.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Once a government conditions its populace to applaud public executions, where does the boundary stop?
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about who becomes vulnerable when the rule of law is replaced by political spectacle.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Is it the immigrants and brown communities labeled as threats?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Is it black and minority citizens who are already disproportionately targeted by capital sentencing?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Is it transgender individuals in the LGBTQIA plus community who already face aggressive legislative rollbacks and dehumanizing rhetoric from military leadership?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Is it political dissonance, journalists, or anyone who stands up and says, this is wrong?
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: When you give the state the power to turn execution into a televised performance, you hand over a key that can eventually unlock doors to target any group deemed an enemy of the administration.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: I want to speak directly to anyone and to everyone listening to this episode, regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I know that we all think that people that have the same thoughts and opinions as us are listening.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: But if you read my hate mail, you would see that there are people from other sides that do listen.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: But so I want us to ask ourselves, especially to the closeted listeners, ask yourself, is this what you voted for?
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Did people vote for public firing squads on livestream platforms?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Did they vote for military leaders standing in front of authoritarian-style backdrops while stripping away protections of vulnerable populations?
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Did they vote for a government that treats human life like a pay-per-view event while wearing a hat or t-shirt or bumper sticker that says family first, that says pro-life?
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: I've said this so many times, but this is not about political parties anymore.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: This is about the fundamental moral baseline of a free goddamn society.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: When you normalize killing for public viewing, you destroy empathy.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: You condition a nation to celebrate blood loss instead of demanding accountability.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: You erode the constitution.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: We cannot sit here quietly, guys.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: We cannot sit here quietly and pretend this is just another new cycle.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: We cannot swipe past the live stream announcements like it's just another piece of social media content.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: All right, guys, that's my political rant for the day on surviving politics-ish.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: My self-proclaimed job on this feed is not to give you a comfortable answer.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: It's to hold up a mirror to what is happening right in front of us and to call it what it is.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: So I want to hear from you.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Do you believe public executions serve justice or do they signal a dangerous shift towards state authoritarianism?
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Where do we draw the line?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: When military branding and government power start mirroring historical authoritarianism.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Do me a favor, drop your comments, share an episode on your social media channels, tag your representatives, and demand that your local and national leaders address these policies.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Stay alert, keep your eyes open, and don't let them normalize the unimaginable.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Don't let them do this, guys.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I'll see you next time.
