- 1:13Speaker 1: a special episode of Hip Hop Now Podcast. We've all
- 1:17Speaker 1: been waiting for this particular album for this particular episode,
- 1:23Speaker 1: so you know, when we gotta do something usually a
- 1:27Speaker 1: little bigger than the average show. We got to throw
- 1:30Speaker 1: up the OT signal okay, like the back signal, but
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's the hot signal. So we have with us today, Brother,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I what's good man?
- 1:39Speaker 2: I appreciate the chief man.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Anything's good man, anything is good. And I will start
- 1:45Speaker 3: off by saying, you know, I know we're about to
- 1:49Speaker 3: get into the review, but yeah, this conversation, what we're
- 1:54Speaker 3: about to do other than that, Otherwise I don't want
- 1:59Speaker 3: to hear nothing. I don't want to hear no sucker,
- 2:06Speaker 3: nothing like I don't. We we gotta get into thorough
- 2:12Speaker 3: hip hop conversations. That's what that's what this is. That's
- 2:15Speaker 3: what this is about. And that that's different. So I
- 2:19Speaker 3: get it. Some folks don't understand, you know, and you
- 2:23Speaker 3: see what the tag is. It maybe culturally inappropriate, might
- 2:27Speaker 3: be scratching hit what's going on? I don't that may
- 2:30Speaker 3: be why So if you're gonna learn a little something
- 2:33Speaker 3: today or you're just not, it's just like, oh, I
- 2:36Speaker 3: don't know, I just don't. It's one of the two
- 2:39Speaker 3: that's gonna happen. But this, Yeah, we're getting into thorough
- 2:43Speaker 3: conversations today, thorough thorough.
- 2:46Speaker 2: But I gotta hand it back.
- 2:47Speaker 1: To you, chief, right, So if you see ots tag there, right,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you said, well, what does he mean? Right, Maybe you
- 2:53Speaker 1: haven't listened to the album, but just look at my
- 2:55Speaker 1: tag right right there, right, look at look at my tag.
- 2:59Speaker 1: See what it says. It's a coked up review. Okay,
- 3:04Speaker 1: all like the last however, how it since last night
- 3:08Speaker 1: into the gym while I was working, So I've been
- 3:11Speaker 1: doing Okay. So if you haven't, guests already looked at
- 3:15Speaker 1: the name of this episode, you looked at the cover art. Uh,
- 3:20Speaker 1: this is a review of the Clips fifth album. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: believe this will be the.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Lord.
- 3:30Speaker 2: There's hell no fury.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Right, there's to the casket drop, to the casket drop.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So that's so. This is for joint. Okay, and they've
- 3:41Speaker 1: had mixtapes you know. Yeah, we have gaged and all
- 3:45Speaker 1: of that. We got it for cheap. But this is
- 3:48Speaker 1: a review of that album. If you watch this podcast,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know what we do. What the criteria is. Uh,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's for me, it's straight up. The first listen is
- 3:59Speaker 1: just about impressions. I'm throwing it on. I'm in hip
- 4:03Speaker 1: hop mode. I'm just listening, you know, enjoying whatever's happening
- 4:08Speaker 1: or not enjoying whatever it may be. Second listen is
- 4:11Speaker 1: more me listening more intent, you know, listening to the bars,
- 4:15Speaker 1: like really trying to catch some of the punchlines, themes, concepts, everything,
- 4:21Speaker 1: And the third listen is really just to confirm my thoughts. Now.
- 4:26Speaker 1: The thing about that is I've listened more than three times,
- 4:31Speaker 1: so you already know how I might feel about it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But let's just get started right off the back, just
- 4:40Speaker 1: so those who don't know this being the Clips fourth album,
- 4:46Speaker 1: now that's coming back to the rap game in the
- 4:49Speaker 1: way we knew them with Clips. It is thirteen tracks.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Well the name of the album is let God Sort
- 4:57Speaker 1: Them Out, but it's thirteen tracks, forty one minutes in length,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and some monster features including Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar
- 5:11Speaker 1: Nas The Dream obviously, Pharrell Williams, Stove God Cooks, amongst others.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think John.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Right, Lava Man Alva Man right right. We gotta get it.
- 5:29Speaker 3: We're gonna get into.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That, right, but in general, and I just want to
- 5:35Speaker 1: say this one thing before we get right into it.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But you know, the Clips did a number of interviews
- 5:42Speaker 1: leading up to this album. Some I watched, something I didn't.
- 5:45Speaker 1: But one thing, one clip that was notable to me
- 5:50Speaker 1: heading into this album was the fact that PUSHA T said, like, yo,
- 5:55Speaker 1: we when it comes to features only spinners, legends, up
- 6:01Speaker 1: and comings. That's that's all we deal with when it
- 6:05Speaker 1: comes to clips albums and by the names we you
- 6:08Speaker 1: know we mentioned they kind of fit those categories as
- 6:12Speaker 1: far as uh, you know, status, whether you heard of
- 6:15Speaker 1: them or not. But I let's go right before this
- 6:21Speaker 1: album as far as anticipation and then like a your
- 6:26Speaker 1: general feeling of the album. So, when when you started
- 6:29Speaker 1: hearing singles off of this project, where was your anticipation
- 6:34Speaker 1: and do you feel it was met with this album?
- 6:39Speaker 3: Great question, man, so, and I'm trying to think back
- 6:45Speaker 3: to what the first My first the first thing that
- 6:49Speaker 3: I heard was that the.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I got it, I got the trumpets.
- 6:58Speaker 2: The dad won't listen wasn't trumpet. It was.
- 7:03Speaker 3: The changing whips. It was the preview at the fashion
- 7:09Speaker 3: walk and these dudes is marching with the LOUISV outfits
- 7:14Speaker 3: Like that was the first initial exposure. You know, this
- 7:19Speaker 3: didn't there was no Kendrick versus anticipation, none of that.
- 7:24Speaker 3: It was Okay, these dudes are on at the fashion
- 7:29Speaker 3: they got the LOUISV outfits and they walk into.
- 7:33Speaker 2: This crazy.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yo that I just thought crazy, like yo, this is crazy,
- 7:39Speaker 3: like whatever this is like it made me stop just yo, dag.
- 7:44Speaker 2: What's that? You know what I'm saying? It made me
- 7:46Speaker 2: do that.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And then I'm looking at like how these dudes is
- 7:49Speaker 3: walking and they got the straight nobody's smiling, and they
- 7:53Speaker 3: just got the crazy LOUISV And I'm like, all these
- 7:57Speaker 3: dudes is coming back. That was my initial response, like Okay,
- 8:02Speaker 3: they coming back. I didn't know what they was gonna
- 8:06Speaker 3: bring with them, but you know, I'm a I'm a fan.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Well I remember that song and I didn't realize it
- 8:15Speaker 1: until now. Uh, that's to push your tea verse. That
- 8:19Speaker 1: was addressing Jim Jones. Jim Jones, Yeah, yeah, you know
- 8:24Speaker 1: we in the room and you the elephant.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and if we and if we want to get
- 8:28Speaker 3: to that, I mean, yeah, let's let's talk to that
- 8:31Speaker 3: real quick, yo, man. Even with that that whole Jim Jones,
- 8:40Speaker 3: push your t back and forth, Like when I seen that,
- 8:45Speaker 3: it's like, what do we I don't want to talk
- 8:48Speaker 3: about this no more? You know what I mean not
- 8:51Speaker 3: to say that you and I don't talk about it,
- 8:53Speaker 3: but the buzz or that, oh you know, Jim Jones said,
- 8:58Speaker 3: and then when I seen that, I'm like, why is this?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Why is this a conversation? So that just totally just
- 9:06Speaker 3: was wiped from my mind. It just became Okay, they're
- 9:11Speaker 3: coming back with the new album.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I want to hear what they had to say.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Now. What that was going to sound like, who knows,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but just the serious face from both of them and
- 9:23Speaker 3: that march and that crazy how crazy the song was
- 9:28Speaker 3: sounding on the runway, I'm like, yeah, these dudes, they've
- 9:31Speaker 3: always been serious, but I'm like, they serious, like what?
- 9:35Speaker 3: And I think whatever they come back with is going
- 9:38Speaker 3: to be serious now in comparison to actually what I
- 9:41Speaker 3: heard last night, you know, and the anticipation and waiting
- 9:45Speaker 3: for this to drop and and actually engaging with it,
- 9:50Speaker 3: what like twelve at twelve am, Yes.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And it lived up to the expectation.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And I just got two words, maybe it's three words,
- 10:01Speaker 3: the exquisite street raps. That's what I heard. That's what
- 10:06Speaker 3: we're getting too, exquisite street raps. And if that matches
- 10:12Speaker 3: what I seen on that runway, And I was feeling
- 10:17Speaker 3: like that's what I got after pressing play and then
- 10:21Speaker 3: hearing the whole album after three times, because I did
- 10:25Speaker 3: three last night too, like which is crazy like you
- 10:30Speaker 3: three times one night I went to bed with like
- 10:34Speaker 3: two thirty in the morning because I ran it back
- 10:37Speaker 3: and then there was songs in it that I kept
- 10:40Speaker 3: running back. So definitely enjoyed what I heard. And yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 3: exquisite street raps. That's when I walk away. That's one
- 10:54Speaker 3: if I if I could summarize which is street raps?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Well, how about you, man?
- 10:59Speaker 3: What what was your what was your initial what did
- 11:03Speaker 3: you head first?
- 11:05Speaker 1: I did, so I heard what you heard, but I
- 11:08Speaker 1: think at the time I didn't put too much stock
- 11:11Speaker 1: into it because it was a snippet. It was a
- 11:14Speaker 1: response to Jim Jones. I was like you once Jim
- 11:18Speaker 1: Jones like was in front of garbage cans. With his
- 11:21Speaker 1: response to that, I'm like, dog, you we know you
- 11:26Speaker 1: don't live in a hood. We know that. Why are
- 11:29Speaker 1: you going back to be in front of clothes, bodega's
- 11:32Speaker 1: and garbage cans to respond to this man? And he
- 11:37Speaker 1: looked like he not on the same planet. When you
- 11:39Speaker 1: go watch that video, you know what I'm saying, Oh,
- 11:41Speaker 1: he's not even overhead, he not even here, like you
- 11:47Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, just just doing, just doing rich stuff,
- 11:50Speaker 1: but or wealthy stuff. There's a difference. But you know,
- 11:55Speaker 1: when I heard that, it was dope. But like I
- 11:57Speaker 1: kind of hate snippets because I can't really absorb with
- 12:00Speaker 1: it what it is. But when I heard ace trumpets
- 12:05Speaker 1: and ballerinas and snow glows, I was like, this mean,
- 12:11Speaker 1: like this, what they doing right here is me. And
- 12:14Speaker 1: I just want to say this so everybody knows, and
- 12:17Speaker 1: go back and check the tape, whether it's hair on
- 12:19Speaker 1: Hip Hop Now podcast or on Apartment five B. I
- 12:24Speaker 1: told y'all, malice is nothing to play with. Like told
- 12:28Speaker 1: y'all that was the thing back in the days when
- 12:32Speaker 1: with Lord Willing. When I was listening, I was like, yo,
- 12:36Speaker 1: he might be my favorite, like he he gotta And
- 12:40Speaker 1: this is the difference, y'all. Right, Obviously, Push your Tea
- 12:43Speaker 1: is not whacked by far right, but older brother got
- 12:47Speaker 1: a little bit more sauce on his version of what
- 12:51Speaker 1: they both do. You know what I'm saying, there's just
- 12:53Speaker 1: a little bit more sauce on his more slick talk.
- 12:57Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Push Your Tea's more technician right,
- 13:01Speaker 1: the way he the way he flows, the way he
- 13:03Speaker 1: spits his stuff, the way he puts the words together.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Alice is doing the same thing, but there's just something
- 13:10Speaker 1: more old school slick.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Like I was gonna say from from from this album,
- 13:19Speaker 3: it's like it's slick, but it's like blunt. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:25Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, because it is you know,
- 13:29Speaker 3: as far as that's one of the notes that I took,
- 13:31Speaker 3: as far as like being witty or you know, from
- 13:34Speaker 3: where we're from, we say slick, slick talk, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 3: like yes, absolutely, but it's like it's it's blunt. Like
- 13:43Speaker 3: he has his nuance. It's like he builds with the
- 13:47Speaker 3: nuance and then he'll hit you with a with something
- 13:52Speaker 3: that's blunt and you're just like, oh.
- 13:54Speaker 1: You like right right yeah. When he said you'll die
- 14:01Speaker 1: at the Oscars, I was like, yo, I don't have
- 14:06Speaker 1: to say, Will Smith, I don't have to say. I
- 14:08Speaker 1: don't have to say nothing about what happened. You know
- 14:11Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. But in the Ace, Trump is joint.
- 14:15Speaker 1: You know, obviously the whole joint is dope, like the
- 14:18Speaker 1: base to beat everything. And you know, I was just
- 14:23Speaker 1: enjoying the bars and when Melice said drugs killed my
- 14:29Speaker 1: teen spirit, Welcome to Nirvana, I was.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Like, yeah, he's back. Yeah, that's what I mean. It's right,
- 14:36Speaker 3: he has the nuance and anything. It's like, right, yo,
- 14:41Speaker 3: it's come on man, it's the boosy mean.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Like y'all right, And when you know, you know the
- 14:47Speaker 1: whole story of the clips of why he left rap
- 14:52Speaker 1: for a second, Deadline hits extra hard because you you're
- 14:57Speaker 1: hearing it and you like, drugs kill my teen Spirit? Okay,
- 15:02Speaker 1: well why would he say that? Okay, well that's why
- 15:04Speaker 1: he left, right, He felt like he didn't want to
- 15:06Speaker 1: promote that lifestyle and stuff like that. You could tell
- 15:10Speaker 1: it affected him deeply at that point in time. But
- 15:14Speaker 1: like you said, with the hard hits, welcome to Nirvana.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's like teen Spirit, y'all know Nirvana the group, right,
- 15:22Speaker 1: the song probably the most recognizable song that most people
- 15:26Speaker 1: mm hmm. And then to kill because it's too much.
- 15:32Speaker 3: It's a lot there, it's a lot with just that shark,
- 15:37Speaker 3: like that shark short.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Jack right right, short punches that you don't see. But
- 15:46Speaker 1: to your point, when when the album like finally dropped,
- 15:50Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about that part. I just loved everything
- 15:57Speaker 1: about it, Like you said, man, exquisite street raps, right,
- 16:02Speaker 1: it felt like what I always say that, like jay
- 16:07Speaker 1: Z fans no matter when you came into the jay
- 16:10Speaker 1: Z catalog or whatever, a reasonable doubt. It's like drug
- 16:16Speaker 1: dealer talk on a different level. It's string a bell.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It's not the box stairs. You know what I'm saying.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's like, hey, I'm classy with this. I may be
- 16:27Speaker 1: pushing the same weight you pushing, but you around the
- 16:31Speaker 1: corner with the hoodie on and having shootouts to stuff
- 16:34Speaker 1: like that. I'm in business meetings like it feels like
- 16:39Speaker 1: that the way they delivered it, and obviously jay Z's
- 16:43Speaker 1: jay Z, but it's a very unique way to talk
- 16:48Speaker 1: about a subject you've been talking about for over a
- 16:51Speaker 1: decade at this point. Yea, you know what I'm saying,
- 16:54Speaker 1: And it doesn't sound dated.
- 16:57Speaker 3: No, no, can we can? We can we take it?
- 17:02Speaker 3: There can we can? We I'll let you, but yeah,
- 17:05Speaker 3: we got to put them on Sonically. You know how
- 17:10Speaker 3: this album sounds like you said the subject matter, Yes,
- 17:15Speaker 3: it's it's what they've been talking about.
- 17:19Speaker 2: But it's like and they have a song point POV.
- 17:27Speaker 3: It's like their perspective right now, and it's not like
- 17:32Speaker 3: it's not like okay, yeah, you know I got it
- 17:35Speaker 3: in the trunk right now we get it's not that,
- 17:39Speaker 3: it's more so and it's figurative like the raps, is
- 17:43Speaker 3: that the rap the wrap in our approach to music
- 17:46Speaker 3: represents that what you know, the street stuff that they
- 17:51Speaker 3: were involved in back then, this is now represented by
- 17:55Speaker 3: our music and the business that we're conducting. We're taking
- 17:58Speaker 3: that same mentality from the street stuff and making it
- 18:04Speaker 3: applicable to you know, what we do in the music business.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And yes, that's been there, but now we get to
- 18:13Speaker 3: hear again, what is their stance right now? Five?
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, without it feeling like you have to focus on that,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's like it's there. They're
- 18:27Speaker 1: painting the pictures. They're reflecting off of everything you know,
- 18:32Speaker 1: they've been through, especially their father. And we'll talk about
- 18:37Speaker 1: you know that will break down like songs and stuff
- 18:40Speaker 1: like that. But yeah, you kind of walk away with
- 18:43Speaker 1: something that's mature enough for people who feel like they
- 18:47Speaker 1: don't want to hear immature rap anymore because they're older. Yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but it still has the energy from grinding and guide
- 18:58Speaker 1: it for cheap and like all the records you remember,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but they just feel more like bigger bosses at this point,
- 19:06Speaker 1: and even from just a rapping standpoint, like everything is refined.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Nothing feels like they put some throwaways in there, like.
- 19:15Speaker 3: No, no, absolutely, absolutely not. That was one of the
- 19:20Speaker 3: notes that I had when I, you know, to expand
- 19:24Speaker 3: on exquisite.
- 19:26Speaker 2: There wasn't a bar wasted. No, no, there was.
- 19:33Speaker 3: There wasn't a bar ladies and gentlemen. There wasn't a
- 19:38Speaker 3: bar wasted. Now. I don't know that that type those
- 19:42Speaker 3: types of things excite you, but that you know, that
- 19:47Speaker 3: should be commended. You know, there wasn't a bar wasted.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Everything was sharp about what they were bringing to this.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Everything sharp.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah. So let's let's talk real quick about midnight when
- 20:06Speaker 1: this album dropped, because everybody was anticipating a shout out
- 20:11Speaker 1: to Kill Apartment five B. We were talking about it
- 20:15Speaker 1: as we were recorded, and you know, like Kill was like, Yo,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I made sure my headphones was charged up. I was
- 20:23Speaker 1: charging things that I probably wasn't even going to use,
- 20:26Speaker 1: Like I was just trying to be ready to consume
- 20:29Speaker 1: nothing but this. But at midnight, if you were using
- 20:35Speaker 1: that for music, what was your experience?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Yo? Man? So at midnight, so I had uh what
- 20:44Speaker 3: pre ordered? You know, I pre ordered because I wanted
- 20:48Speaker 3: to be able.
- 20:48Speaker 2: To to.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Have that. So I think, you know, maybe eleven fifty five.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I went over and I was looking for it. I'm like, okay,
- 20:58Speaker 3: it's not not here. So then they dropped, and yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 3: I listened to the I listened to the entire album.
- 21:09Speaker 3: And this is real talk, real, real quick criticism. I
- 21:13Speaker 3: listened to what I thought was the entire album, and
- 21:18Speaker 3: so I got to the end and like the song
- 21:25Speaker 3: the last song cut off, and then I looked at
- 21:29Speaker 3: the time. I was like, damn, this joint thirty three
- 21:33Speaker 3: thirty three minutes. Damn. I'm like, damn, y'all. I liked it,
- 21:37Speaker 3: but this is kind of short, like damn, and then
- 21:41Speaker 3: the last song just cut off like that, what's that?
- 21:44Speaker 3: You know? And then I went over to YouTube, and
- 21:47Speaker 3: then then I dawned on me.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I realized, I'm like, well, hold up, what the hell
- 21:52Speaker 2: was a trumpets? Like I didn't hear age trump It's like,
- 21:56Speaker 2: what's going on head?
- 21:58Speaker 3: So then I went over to YouTube and I looked
- 22:00Speaker 3: at the list on YouTube, and then I compared, I'm like, yo,
- 22:03Speaker 3: hold on, I got I got shorted, like my bag
- 22:08Speaker 3: wasn't wasn't full, Like what is this?
- 22:13Speaker 2: So I went and I looked.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, like some of the songs wasn't included,
- 22:20Speaker 4: Like it was like I had to pay for like
- 22:24Speaker 4: three additional songs like the Ah Trumpets Mike Tyson Blowed
- 22:28Speaker 4: through the Face and uh and the last song by
- 22:32Speaker 4: the grace of God like it.
- 22:34Speaker 3: It didn't it wasn't in my for what I for
- 22:38Speaker 3: what I bought from the pre order. Oh wow, Yeah,
- 22:41Speaker 3: so that wasn't That's why I said. That wasn't so
- 22:44Speaker 3: if I say one criticism and that's not, they don't
- 22:47Speaker 3: have nothing to do with the clips. That was some
- 22:49Speaker 3: Apple Music stuff. But yeah, So initially I was like, damn,
- 22:56Speaker 3: like I like it, but this was this was this
- 22:58Speaker 3: was like short and then what was up that last song?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Why you just cut off like that?
- 23:03Speaker 2: And then I realized what it happened.
- 23:06Speaker 3: So then I went back got the songs that I missed,
- 23:10Speaker 3: and then went back and listened to it again, and
- 23:13Speaker 3: I'm like, now this is now my.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Plate is full, the bag is full.
- 23:19Speaker 3: When I got shorted, no, put that back, put that
- 23:22Speaker 3: back in the bag.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Okay to be good.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Now Like now now I'm good. Like I went back
- 23:29Speaker 3: and bought everything, but I listened to it on YouTube
- 23:33Speaker 3: and so the crazy part about it is I went
- 23:36Speaker 3: it was the opposite. I went to Apple because I'm like, yo,
- 23:41Speaker 3: I don't want to go to YouTube and listen to
- 23:43Speaker 3: it out of order, so I want to make sure
- 23:47Speaker 3: that it was an order. And I still, you know,
- 23:50Speaker 3: so it was still janky. So I ended up listening
- 23:53Speaker 3: to it on YouTube to get the full effect, and
- 23:56Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, now this is this is this is it?
- 24:00Speaker 2: This is so that good?
- 24:02Speaker 3: Forty one minutes yes, yeah, forty one minutes a potency
- 24:09Speaker 3: because I'll start thinking like what wait, minute, tru Is
- 24:12Speaker 3: ain't even on here.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Like I have to look again.
- 24:15Speaker 3: And so right now in my Apple Music, right now
- 24:18Speaker 3: as we speak, it's like almost like an EP, like
- 24:23Speaker 3: the three songs that yeah, the three songs that I
- 24:27Speaker 3: didn't get, and then the rest of the album and
- 24:31Speaker 3: now it's like an EP, like I'm gonna have to
- 24:32Speaker 3: make a playlist to put everything in its order.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah, something something's off because there's a way to combine them, Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 1: instead of making a playlist, something's off and how they're listed,
- 24:47Speaker 1: like title could be slightly different or artists, But if
- 24:53Speaker 1: you combine them by just correcting all of that, it'll
- 24:56Speaker 1: put them all back in the same pas. Well what's
- 25:00Speaker 1: crazy is that wasn't my experience. I went on streaming joint.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So I went to Apple Music first because of the
- 25:10Speaker 1: lossless audio, and I wanted to use, you know, the headphones.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I was going to just zone out. So I'm playing,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I'm go press play on the first track and I'm
- 25:22Speaker 1: hearing chains and whips. But I'm like, that's not the
- 25:26Speaker 1: first track. So I kind of like looked and all
- 25:31Speaker 1: of it was like available. It wasn't like Great outa
- 25:33Speaker 1: or anything like that. So I did it again and
- 25:36Speaker 1: it went to the second track. So I'm like, well,
- 25:39Speaker 1: what the hell's going on now. I've noticed in the
- 25:41Speaker 1: past with streaming services, mostly Apple, they'll have a pre
- 25:47Speaker 1: like pre load pre lock in for your streaming service
- 25:52Speaker 1: version of an album, and as singles are released, titles
- 25:56Speaker 1: are revealed, but the other ones will say track one,
- 25:59Speaker 1: track two or whatever. That great out that's what I
- 26:01Speaker 1: saved months ago. That wasn't the album that was released.
- 26:09Speaker 1: So I had to delete that, go back to that
- 26:11Speaker 1: new page, and like re added to my library to
- 26:17Speaker 1: get the whole thing. But guess what, When I did that,
- 26:21Speaker 1: Mike Tyson punched to the face was grayed out, so
- 26:25Speaker 1: I'm like, well, wait a minute, this is sample something
- 26:28Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, that's what the first thing.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I thought, like that right.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But then miraculously it was available, So I think somebody
- 26:39Speaker 1: was trying to replace what was there before the album
- 26:43Speaker 1: dropped with something that was different about what his new
- 26:47Speaker 1: joint was, and everybody was pressing play on what they
- 26:50Speaker 1: had saved, yes, which happened to k He said the
- 26:56Speaker 1: same thing every time my press play goes to chains
- 26:59Speaker 1: and whips. So I was like, yo, just delete that joint,
- 27:03Speaker 1: look on you know, look on Apple Music, and just
- 27:05Speaker 1: re download it. So then you know, everything worked out.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But the other thing I did, because I was starting
- 27:12Speaker 1: to get a little frustrated, I was like, I have Spotify.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I went over to Spotify one album, all songs there
- 27:20Speaker 1: to be played, high quality sound and all that shit.
- 27:24Speaker 1: So I was just like, I'm just going to Spotify
- 27:26Speaker 1: for now.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Because I saw.
- 27:29Speaker 1: People posting, I'm like, wait, are they listening? And I
- 27:32Speaker 1: was like, oh, some people got Spotify. So it was
- 27:36Speaker 1: interesting to have that experience when again, when we talk
- 27:39Speaker 1: about our anticipation and how far back it went to
- 27:44Speaker 1: be honest, which was like what a year or two
- 27:48Speaker 1: when we first heard chains and Whips or whatever. So
- 27:53Speaker 1: that was the experience. But let's get into these songs,
- 27:57Speaker 1: which I think, you know what people really want to
- 27:59Speaker 1: hear about. Man, when you heard the first track, because
- 28:02Speaker 1: this came to mind as a question for you, the
- 28:05Speaker 1: first track being the Birds Don't Sing. Now, given the
- 28:09Speaker 1: fact that you've heard snippets and other singles leading up
- 28:13Speaker 1: to it and it was all coked out, how did
- 28:16Speaker 1: you feel when you heard that as the very first record?
- 28:21Speaker 3: I man, there there's mixed emotions with that. Like again,
- 28:27Speaker 3: like I think it goes back to my initial impression
- 28:32Speaker 3: of them, you know, on that runway with the with
- 28:36Speaker 3: the you know, nobody smiling.
- 28:39Speaker 2: It's like, Yo, these dudes are serious.
- 28:41Speaker 3: But you know, I was looking at it in a
- 28:44Speaker 3: in a more fun way then, But then when I
- 28:47Speaker 3: press played and.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Started to hear the subject matter of this, of this.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Song, that these dudes are serious, like, and it's like,
- 28:56Speaker 3: we're gonna show you how serious we are, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 3: And so yeah, man, I mean that that's the most
- 29:07Speaker 3: vulnerable song I've heard from from the clips I think
- 29:12Speaker 3: overall on this album, it's the most vulnerable i've heard
- 29:18Speaker 3: push a T.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Now let's for the audience. Let's make this clear.
- 29:23Speaker 3: It's vulnerable in their way, you know what I'm saying,
- 29:28Speaker 3: It's vulnerable in their way. So even in their way,
- 29:33Speaker 3: they're looking at this like with the most the best
- 29:36Speaker 3: raps that you can get, even while being vulnerable. So yeah, man,
- 29:45Speaker 3: like it's it's it's a great song. It's a vulnerable,
- 29:51Speaker 3: a vulnerable song. But my you know, initial impression from
- 29:56Speaker 3: hearing it is, Yeah, these dudes are serial and they're
- 30:00Speaker 3: kicking off the album in a serious, a serious way,
- 30:05Speaker 3: in a serious way. And then quite frankly, I know
- 30:09Speaker 3: we're talking about this song in particular, but having the
- 30:14Speaker 3: whole experience. Now, if they're hearing the first song and
- 30:17Speaker 3: thinking back on it, it's like that first song dedicated
- 30:21Speaker 3: to their parents, and now that everything after is like,
- 30:28Speaker 3: we're gonna we're gonna make them proud the way that
- 30:33Speaker 3: we know is the most exquisitive street you could ever get.
- 30:41Speaker 3: It's like, it's that's dedicated to our parents, and you know,
- 30:46Speaker 3: it's a very vulnerable subject. And now that we set
- 30:51Speaker 3: the tone with that, let God sort them out. We
- 30:55Speaker 3: are here to give and just give the business on
- 31:02Speaker 3: these beats and in these bars and these rounds. Like
- 31:06Speaker 3: that's like what I got from it overall. Just thinking
- 31:11Speaker 3: about thinking back on that first song.
- 31:14Speaker 1: That first song, Yeah I'm with you, I it kind
- 31:18Speaker 1: of caught me off guard because it was the you know,
- 31:20Speaker 1: it was the first track, and I think, you know,
- 31:25Speaker 1: there was a lot of malice not only in this song,
- 31:28Speaker 1: but influence, no malice influence throughout this album because of
- 31:34Speaker 1: the you know, being vulnerable because he was obviously not
- 31:38Speaker 1: afraid to be that and leaving hip hop at one point.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But to your point, what I what I think I
- 31:45Speaker 1: like about it as far as setting the tone, it
- 31:48Speaker 1: says that these are real human beings, right like we
- 31:54Speaker 1: know we talk about the coke rat and be coked
- 31:57Speaker 1: up and float the coke and how many ways they
- 31:59Speaker 1: could talk about coat in the street. But this is
- 32:04Speaker 1: the reality also, right like, this is who they are.
- 32:08Speaker 1: This is this is Terrence right like talking about and
- 32:12Speaker 1: referring to himself and other people where we got to
- 32:16Speaker 1: learn the family. You know what I'm saying, This is tea,
- 32:21Speaker 1: not push your tea, nothing like that. So like all
- 32:24Speaker 1: of that kind of stuck with me because I always
- 32:27Speaker 1: feel like rappers who are able to do that, especially
- 32:30Speaker 1: doing it in a great way lyrically, they they bring
- 32:36Speaker 1: themselves closer to their fans because they can relate to that.
- 32:40Speaker 1: So when by the time you get the joints like
- 32:45Speaker 1: chains and whips, you know them, Oh that's the homie.
- 32:50Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. His mother and father left
- 32:52Speaker 1: over here and work double shifts and blah blah blah,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and he was on the block and all of that,
- 32:58Speaker 1: And it just was a great launch your pad to
- 33:01Speaker 1: say that this album is full of substance, whether that's
- 33:05Speaker 1: just like what's being talked about or the potency of
- 33:10Speaker 1: the ball work. Like you just this isn't your average
- 33:15Speaker 1: coke rap album where I'm just gonna try to say
- 33:19Speaker 1: all the flies things I can say about, you know,
- 33:23Speaker 1: the drug trade in the street. So I think I
- 33:26Speaker 1: appreciated that, and I'm gonna afterward kind of done with
- 33:31Speaker 1: some of the songs. I'm going to talk about some
- 33:34Speaker 1: of the things that were happening happening that led to
- 33:38Speaker 1: me's asking the question, it's the Clips album over hyped
- 33:43Speaker 1: and it plays into all of what's we're talking about.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Watch okay, okay, but.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Can we talk about Kendrick. I'm not trying to be
- 33:56Speaker 1: a bye. But at first I was like, okay, Kendrick
- 34:01Speaker 1: getting busy, but then I was like, okay, he goes.
- 34:03Speaker 1: He got out of heads getting out of head now,
- 34:09Speaker 1: Like when you finally got the chance to hit a
- 34:13Speaker 1: full song, what was your impressions of that song in
- 34:17Speaker 1: Kendrick's feature.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Yeah, again, it's like following up after the first track
- 34:26Speaker 3: and we get into this it's it's I don't know
- 34:34Speaker 3: that set like a whole other tone like and yeah, man,
- 34:46Speaker 3: it's a great, great feature. Kendrick of course did did
- 34:52Speaker 3: his thing, did his thing, man bodied it and it's
- 34:59Speaker 3: just a respect like you know that there's a respect there.
- 35:04Speaker 1: You know.
- 35:05Speaker 3: It just sounds like when you know they asked him
- 35:08Speaker 3: to get on that song, he was like, of course,
- 35:13Speaker 3: and you know, you know, well, I guess it's back
- 35:16Speaker 3: to control, like I'm gonna try to kill both of
- 35:19Speaker 3: y'all on you.
- 35:21Speaker 2: On your track.
- 35:22Speaker 3: But it's it's respectful, like you know he did that
- 35:26Speaker 3: because of how much he respects right malice and pusher
- 35:32Speaker 3: you know, and so and don't get me wrong, like everybody,
- 35:37Speaker 3: everybody everybody did their numbers on air, but of course
- 35:41Speaker 3: Kendrick took it another gear though he had to take it.
- 35:45Speaker 2: He had to take it another gear. So yeah, man, great,
- 35:49Speaker 2: great song, crazy you know.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Summer summer song card, turn it up, you know what
- 35:57Speaker 3: I mean? I get a bit of like, uh, Church
- 36:02Speaker 3: in the Wild vibes from Washing the Throne has got
- 36:06Speaker 3: that kind of that that that that that that rhythm
- 36:11Speaker 3: to it. But yeah, man, yeah, another gear with Kendrick,
- 36:18Speaker 3: another gear, another gear. But the thing is with the
- 36:24Speaker 3: clips as far as album wise, as you're.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Listening through, they went to different gears.
- 36:34Speaker 3: So that was just the second song and one of
- 36:38Speaker 3: their features taking it to another gear.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But overall with Pusher and.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Malice, yeah, we gotta talk about their gears throughout this whole.
- 36:49Speaker 3: It's again tone tone setting.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Yeah, like you said, it's exquisite street raps, right, And
- 37:00Speaker 1: I'm glad you said that because we're gonna we're gonna
- 37:02Speaker 1: separate the difference based off of what I teased. But
- 37:07Speaker 1: I feel the same way, like you know, Kendrick Verse
- 37:10Speaker 1: was dope. It added to what Pusher and Malice was
- 37:13Speaker 1: doing on that track, and it's always do when you
- 37:17Speaker 1: have an album highly anticipated, and the expectations are bars
- 37:22Speaker 1: and your features come to play right like they they're like, okay,
- 37:27Speaker 1: I know what this is. I know, I know what
- 37:29Speaker 1: it's gonna be. Let me show up, you know, let
- 37:34Speaker 1: me not dillar in the next song. Low key kind
- 37:41Speaker 1: of becoming one of my favorites because you talk about
- 37:46Speaker 1: a feature coming in there like I get busy too.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Tyler the creator with the clips again, the clips do
- 37:58Speaker 1: they thing like ox set step it up. Tyler is
- 38:03Speaker 1: just and he's worked with with a song was crazy too.
- 38:07Speaker 1: He worked with Pushing TV for what was it Trouble
- 38:10Speaker 1: on My Mind? Yeah, that was crazy when it This
- 38:15Speaker 1: is another one, and what I like about it is
- 38:19Speaker 1: Kendrick was Kendrick like typical, like the Gemini, like he
- 38:24Speaker 1: going kind of crazy, y'all talk about Ginger reveals and
- 38:27Speaker 1: you my son and all that, and then Tyler coming
- 38:31Speaker 1: in and I forget the bar. But it was like
- 38:35Speaker 1: stunthing like death Dumb and Blind or or Blind and
- 38:40Speaker 1: Death Chicks.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Trying to yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, I.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Was, you know, kind of the humor. But so when
- 38:48Speaker 1: you heard p o V and the Tyler the creative feature,
- 38:54Speaker 1: what was your thoughts?
- 38:58Speaker 2: Enough enough gear like?
- 39:03Speaker 3: And then with with Tyler, it's like, Okay, Tyler's doing
- 39:10Speaker 3: his best if it feels like it's best pusher or
- 39:15Speaker 3: his best clips impersonation, but you know it's it's paying
- 39:20Speaker 3: homage like some of his caterence to some of his deliveries. Definitely,
- 39:26Speaker 3: you know, paying homage to to the clips, to the clips.
- 39:31Speaker 3: So body body that body that that verse with them
- 39:37Speaker 3: malice man, he.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Got me with one of those.
- 39:41Speaker 3: He got me with one of the.
- 39:43Speaker 2: One of them short you know, one of them short jabs.
- 39:47Speaker 3: You know what I mean. He say, Yo, I'm watching
- 39:49Speaker 3: New Ninjas rap just the O d I had to stop,
- 39:53Speaker 3: like I'm listening to violent, Yo, this is dope. And
- 39:55Speaker 3: then he hit me with that. I was like, I
- 39:58Speaker 3: had to stop in the middle of the vibe oh ship,
- 40:01Speaker 3: like right right, you know, like and when you think
- 40:08Speaker 3: of it in context of the whole song, it's pov
- 40:12Speaker 3: is point of view. So he and then he tell
- 40:15Speaker 3: you that, like, Yo, I didn't you know, I didn't.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I didn't did my thing. I rap about doing my thing.
- 40:22Speaker 3: And now yo, I'm just sitting back watching these new
- 40:25Speaker 3: dudes rap just to fill out of the game, you know,
- 40:29Speaker 3: like but the again the delivery and the timing, which
- 40:35Speaker 3: is like damn.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think you summarized it because I
- 40:42Speaker 1: think people forgot what his kind of like what his
- 40:47Speaker 1: purpose was within the group, like we know, push your teams,
- 40:51Speaker 1: the ultimate coke rap. Me can come up with so
- 40:54Speaker 1: many different ways to talk about it, But now it's
- 40:59Speaker 1: remind you that like almost like he's the muscle of
- 41:03Speaker 1: the group, right, Like he's already made a decision on
- 41:09Speaker 1: you and he's gonna tell you like he's he's probably
- 41:13Speaker 1: like the Street version, Street version of like inspected that
- 41:16Speaker 1: when they used to describe him like he's gonna sit back,
- 41:19Speaker 1: watch you and all of that and didn't gonna take
- 41:21Speaker 1: you to court. Like now it's not even taking you
- 41:25Speaker 1: to court. He's already decided who you are and who
- 41:28Speaker 1: you're not. And it's just the way he sounds when
- 41:33Speaker 1: he says it, like he says these things with conviction.
- 41:36Speaker 1: What's we're gonna talk about? Also, because I don't know
- 41:39Speaker 1: how these cats keep saying, yeah, we don't believe him,
- 41:41Speaker 1: and I'm like I don't believe you.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I mean, yo, man.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Leading up to this album, and I don't know, maybe
- 41:51Speaker 3: it was part of the algorithm, but something just popped
- 41:55Speaker 3: up in my YouTube where the dude that they was
- 41:59Speaker 3: doing a thing.
- 42:00Speaker 2: What he was telling everything like yeah, you know bricks.
- 42:04Speaker 3: But I'm like, damn, like, well, you know they obviously
- 42:09Speaker 3: I would think they're not doing it now. They don't
- 42:12Speaker 3: have anything to do with it now. But whoever this
- 42:15Speaker 3: dude was, he would sit down in front of front
- 42:19Speaker 3: of this white dude and he was telling everything.
- 42:22Speaker 2: He was like, yeah, you know Kingpins and I'm.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Like, damn like and it just makes me think because
- 42:32Speaker 3: you know, he can't rap, so this is the way
- 42:35Speaker 3: that he tells the story, you know, and.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Shout out to that dude.
- 42:40Speaker 3: I'm not It's just shocking because of the nature of
- 42:46Speaker 3: what they're talking about, and it's not from that interview.
- 42:50Speaker 3: There's no coding, there's no oh you know that could
- 42:53Speaker 3: just be figured in language. They ain't really t ain't
- 42:55Speaker 3: really do nothing what they say. No, this dude was
- 42:58Speaker 3: like no, it was this blunt like yeah, these dudes
- 43:02Speaker 3: was Kingfin and we had this connect from here from
- 43:05Speaker 3: EAT and I'm like, yo, So then you listen to
- 43:09Speaker 3: this album and then you hear malice, Like yo, I
- 43:12Speaker 3: stepped back because you know, dudes is getting indicted and
- 43:16Speaker 3: whoo whoo.
- 43:18Speaker 2: You know, he made a smart, smart decision, you know.
- 43:21Speaker 3: And I don't know what their relationship is with that dude,
- 43:24Speaker 3: whoever that was, that popped up on my timeline. I
- 43:28Speaker 3: know PUSH's last album. He was disappointed, and maybe that
- 43:33Speaker 3: was the same guy. I'm not keeping up with their
- 43:35Speaker 3: lore like that, but maybe that was the same guy.
- 43:38Speaker 3: No pushing expression disappointment with somebody in another interview saying
- 43:44Speaker 3: stuff on the last album. He's just like, you know,
- 43:48Speaker 3: expressing his disappointment in that. So but yeah, man, the
- 43:56Speaker 3: whole notion of these dudes, what they talking about that?
- 44:00Speaker 3: And of course everybody's human, right, you know, but you
- 44:05Speaker 3: got people that's documenting and going on YouTube and saying
- 44:11Speaker 3: yes they they are what they were rapping about, or
- 44:16Speaker 3: are yeah, they what they're rapping about.
- 44:19Speaker 2: It's authentic. Let's just put it that way.
- 44:21Speaker 1: It happened, yeah, you know what, Like and again we're
- 44:27Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna talk about that difference in rappers who
- 44:32Speaker 1: came from the street. But I kind of could see,
- 44:38Speaker 1: like it's it's a social media thing, so let me
- 44:40Speaker 1: not get into it just yet because I'm trying to
- 44:42Speaker 1: find a way around saying it early. But yeah, because
- 44:46Speaker 1: I want to get your tape also, so so be it.
- 44:52Speaker 1: We we know, y'all know the vibes, so be it
- 44:56Speaker 1: Ace trumpets perfect placement if you ask me, because I'm
- 45:02Speaker 1: already reeling off of the things I'm hearing for the
- 45:06Speaker 1: first time in those first three tracks. And then here
- 45:09Speaker 1: comes the joints. I've heard a lot and already confirmed
- 45:12Speaker 1: they're crazy. So now I'm halfway through the album, Like, yo,
- 45:17Speaker 1: if you can't get no worse, like it's impossible considering
- 45:23Speaker 1: what we have left. And if I skip a joint,
- 45:28Speaker 1: you got a note on let me know, go over that.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Well, I got I just got one note. I got
- 45:35Speaker 3: one note. So be It Part two? Yeah, I prefer
- 45:41Speaker 3: part one.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I got a theory on that. To me, personally, I
- 45:48Speaker 1: think everybody does, like, so be It Part two is fine?
- 45:55Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I think maybe there was some two things either, maybe
- 46:03Speaker 1: there was some sample situation with that one and hints
- 46:11Speaker 1: part two. But also I get the feeling we're going
- 46:15Speaker 1: to get a deluxe version of this album that will
- 46:19Speaker 1: include not only other songs that weren't a part of
- 46:23Speaker 1: the album, but a record like that, and maybe Mike
- 46:27Speaker 1: Tyson Puns to the Face does have my jay Z
- 46:30Speaker 1: on it, like because that's the only thing really well
- 46:36Speaker 1: for one, That's a thing that happens now with a
- 46:38Speaker 1: lot of these albums. Even Jim Jones did it when
- 46:41Speaker 1: he did his Deluxe. It was like a whole nother album,
- 46:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, which wasn't good. The original
- 46:47Speaker 1: was better, right, like get the mother songs off ahead?
- 46:50Speaker 1: What are you doing? But it's a trend these last
- 46:56Speaker 1: couple of years to do that, because, for example, Freddi
- 47:01Speaker 1: Gibbs did that. He released all these singles leading up
- 47:03Speaker 1: to his last album, and when they dropped, I was like, damn,
- 47:07Speaker 1: it's big Rabbit, Like I really liked that joint. And
- 47:11Speaker 1: then they dropped the Deluxe, and all them joints leading
- 47:14Speaker 1: up to was on there towards the tail end. So
- 47:18Speaker 1: I could see that happening with this. Maybe they need
- 47:20Speaker 1: a little bit time, Maybe they're gonna throw Nori on
- 47:23Speaker 1: so be it. Who knows, but I agree with you.
- 47:29Speaker 1: It kind of caught me on guard because I was like,
- 47:32Speaker 1: it's not the beat I remember, Like yeah, yeah, it's
- 47:37Speaker 1: not the same thing, so I agree. I didn't hear
- 47:44Speaker 1: Mike Tyson punch to the face like this. Listen to
- 47:48Speaker 1: this album was the first time I heard it. Songs crazy.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I kept hearing everybody say that. I was like, Yo,
- 47:57Speaker 1: that's a dope ass title. I wish I had that,
- 48:01Speaker 1: but I hadn't heard it until this. So I'm in
- 48:05Speaker 1: my headphones, I'm like, oh, here go the song everybody
- 48:07Speaker 1: talking about, and I'm like, Yo, it's I'm glad this
- 48:12Speaker 1: is here, Like you know what I'm saying. You told
- 48:15Speaker 1: me about it also, you know, I know you was
- 48:19Speaker 1: happy that it was dead, but you know what were
- 48:21Speaker 1: you thinking when it when it started within the flow
- 48:24Speaker 1: of the album.
- 48:25Speaker 3: It hit. Yeah, that was it was what it was,
- 48:28Speaker 3: what it was what I needed.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Do I have it correct now? I don't know that
- 48:35Speaker 2: it's not correct now. I had to look on on YouTube.
- 48:40Speaker 1: But on the album it's the seventh track between All
- 48:46Speaker 1: Things Considered at six and uh E B I T
- 48:50Speaker 1: B A at eight.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 48:54Speaker 2: It was what I needed because All Things Considered.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Moved it out, We smoothed it out, and that was
- 49:02Speaker 3: another vulnerable.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Another vulnerable track man for pushing tee.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Well, he has a vulnerable line in you know what
- 49:12Speaker 3: I'm saying, he's talking about his wife miscarried. I had
- 49:16Speaker 3: to run it back like did he say what I think?
- 49:18Speaker 3: And it's like, yeah, he actually he actually talking about that.
- 49:22Speaker 3: That's Man's that's heavy to talk about, man to put that.
- 49:29Speaker 3: But you know it's again the exquisite raps. You do
- 49:33Speaker 3: that in such a way where you could keep listening
- 49:36Speaker 3: to the song and enjoy the song. Right then when
- 49:39Speaker 3: you really taking what they're saying, it's like, like you said,
- 49:42Speaker 3: the humanity of it being vulnerable, it's there. And then
- 49:47Speaker 3: when we get back to the aggressive the Mike Tyson
- 49:51Speaker 3: blowed to the face.
- 49:52Speaker 2: It just it worked like that sequence. It just worked.
- 49:56Speaker 3: And then I never I had heard Pushes verse. I
- 50:00Speaker 3: never heard Malice's verse, you know what I mean. So
- 50:03Speaker 3: I'm just like this it just just works, man, Just
- 50:08Speaker 3: this works.
- 50:09Speaker 2: And we we the overall sound.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Man. I don't know if we wanted to save this
- 50:15Speaker 3: to the end, but now I just feel like I
- 50:18Speaker 3: gotta get my bars off.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Man.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Yeah for real, man, what we what we doing?
- 50:25Speaker 3: Man?
- 50:26Speaker 2: What we're doing with Pharrell? Man? What we're doing?
- 50:29Speaker 1: Yo?
- 50:30Speaker 3: Man?
- 50:30Speaker 1: Like, well, right, so when you say that just because
- 50:37Speaker 1: I want I wanted this to kind of be a
- 50:39Speaker 1: part of what you're about to say, just because you
- 50:42Speaker 1: have your own thoughts. But I did see one or
- 50:46Speaker 1: two people who felt like they wanted better beats for
- 50:50Speaker 1: some songs. Okay, So with knowing with what you about
- 50:55Speaker 1: to say, you know, what do you think about that?
- 50:57Speaker 1: And you know, do you even agree with that?
- 51:01Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's fair. You know, that's their opinion.
- 51:08Speaker 3: With so bi It Part two, I prefer so be
- 51:12Speaker 3: It Part one, and I think it was a sample
- 51:15Speaker 3: clearance thing and it felt like it like I can't
- 51:19Speaker 3: go back now after hearing so be It Part one
- 51:21Speaker 3: and how crazy that was. And then the beat isn't
- 51:26Speaker 3: bad for part two, but it's not part one. And
- 51:30Speaker 3: then when you put part one and the sequence of everything,
- 51:34Speaker 3: the cohesive the album is cohesive, like and so sonically,
- 51:39Speaker 3: what I wanted to say is like, yo, it's like
- 51:43Speaker 3: it's bright and aggressive at the same time. Right, you know,
- 51:52Speaker 3: when I think about like pushing T in his last
- 51:56Speaker 3: his albums, he goes dark.
- 51:59Speaker 2: That's what he that's what he does.
- 52:01Speaker 3: He goes dark, our body dark, kind of obscure. But
- 52:07Speaker 3: with this unapologetically clips like bright but yet aggressive, like
- 52:16Speaker 3: it wasn't trying to be commercial. It wasn't trying to
- 52:21Speaker 3: be commercial. Where it was it was just that upbeat,
- 52:29Speaker 3: bright sound that you know of the clips, but this
- 52:34Speaker 3: was the most like aggressive. This was even more aggressive
- 52:37Speaker 3: than Hell Have No Fury. I think Hell Have No
- 52:40Speaker 3: Fury was more raw, but it had playful joints on it,
- 52:46Speaker 3: like mister me too. I'll say that's more like playful. Again.
- 52:52Speaker 3: They wasn't playing on this, but they had bright, bright
- 53:00Speaker 3: music like it was bright and again man, exquisite.
- 53:05Speaker 2: It's so when I say what we're doing with.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Pharrell, and you know, folks may have the criticism of
- 53:12Speaker 3: better beats, I mean that that's cool. That's cool, but
- 53:17Speaker 3: just overall the body of work, if I look at
- 53:22Speaker 3: it overall, man, this was this was beast move man.
- 53:27Speaker 3: This was beMore, a cohesive, cohesive sound.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Clips, unapologetically clip.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I guess my point or what I could add to
- 53:39Speaker 3: that maybe bright, aggressive and boutique.
- 53:45Speaker 5: You can't get it from nowhere else.
- 53:48Speaker 1: You can't get that from no else. It's it's you
- 53:51Speaker 1: know what, I've said this a couple of times, just
- 53:55Speaker 1: based off of being a Clips fan, and when you
- 53:58Speaker 1: go back and listen to the album, the president is
- 54:03Speaker 1: already set. This is Pharrell's all of these albums, all
- 54:08Speaker 1: four albums. This is Pharrell's brand of boom Back. It's
- 54:12Speaker 1: not boom back tweaked a little bit, but you can
- 54:16Speaker 1: recognize it. It's like, no, this is Pharrell's version of
- 54:21Speaker 1: boom back. It has that hard edge that boom Bab has,
- 54:26Speaker 1: but it's not predictable and it's clean, you know what
- 54:30Speaker 1: I'm saying. Like you said, boutique is it? You like
- 54:33Speaker 1: almost want to go there right when you first hear it,
- 54:36Speaker 1: if you like, especially if you're hip hop snile, you
- 54:39Speaker 1: want to go there and be like, oh here he
- 54:42Speaker 1: come with these moist sass beats. But when you hear
- 54:46Speaker 1: something like Ace trumpets that is unapologetically boom back, but upgraded,
- 54:55Speaker 1: like dressed up like you ever seen somebody like in
- 54:59Speaker 1: the hood, Like this dude is man ugly. No clothes
- 55:02Speaker 1: can ever change the way this nigga look nothing like
- 55:07Speaker 1: you can put anything on him. But then he go
- 55:10Speaker 1: get a cut, get that bed lined up. You know
- 55:13Speaker 1: what I'm saying. The close is clean. And then because
- 55:17Speaker 1: he looked good, he kind of projecting a way, and
- 55:19Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, I think I was wrong because.
- 55:26Speaker 2: With the women, the women that they right.
- 55:28Speaker 1: There, the women that was like ignoring him, are now
- 55:32Speaker 1: looking at him. And it feels like that's what Pharrell
- 55:36Speaker 1: does with the production. He he looks at he knows
- 55:39Speaker 1: what it is because he's listening to these rats and
- 55:42Speaker 1: he's like, yo, this the block, the street that's coke
- 55:45Speaker 1: and all of that. But like you said, it's it's
- 55:48Speaker 1: a difference between Scarface and Freedom Town. The Scarface who
- 55:54Speaker 1: already got rid of Frank and all of the mother cats,
- 55:57Speaker 1: and now he on top. He carries himself alo little
- 56:00Speaker 1: bit different. So I think I think you're right man.
- 56:04Speaker 1: And again you know, obviously it's all subjective as far
- 56:08Speaker 1: as you're I but I think if you've heard clips albums,
- 56:14Speaker 1: this production should be no surprise. Not to me.
- 56:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean the only surprise is damn how
- 56:26Speaker 3: how good it is, Like because you would think like
- 56:31Speaker 3: you would think, oh, well, I could get monotonous, and
- 56:34Speaker 3: it's like no, like he's finding ways to take it
- 56:39Speaker 3: to another level or to flip it this way or
- 56:42Speaker 3: the Like you said, it's not predictable. You can't the pattern.
- 56:47Speaker 3: The pattern is clips, but you can't get into Okay,
- 56:52Speaker 3: here's my slow song, here's my song for the ladies,
- 56:57Speaker 3: here's my ultra hardcore barred up some No, it's not
- 57:03Speaker 3: it's not that right, not that. And listening to some
- 57:07Speaker 3: of the interviews were pusher. Pusher was saying like, Yo,
- 57:11Speaker 3: we're going for a.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Feeling and damn it.
- 57:15Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yes, yes, and we're gonna get to you
- 57:20Speaker 3: know it's later, it's later in the album, but yes,
- 57:24Speaker 3: I was in my feelings. I got into some some feelings.
- 57:28Speaker 3: I know it's we're gonna get there. I'm not going
- 57:32Speaker 3: we want it like number eight. We only on number eight.
- 57:35Speaker 1: We're only on number eighth. But we don't necessarily have
- 57:38Speaker 1: to go through all of them. I just wanted to
- 57:40Speaker 1: point out some some notable stuff that you know, through
- 57:43Speaker 1: the tracks that we noticed. For me, I was waiting
- 57:48Speaker 1: for this. I understand why it happened the way it
- 57:52Speaker 1: did because I think it has less to do with
- 57:56Speaker 1: wanting him to have a verse versus can he legally
- 58:01Speaker 1: have one on this project at least? And that stove
- 58:05Speaker 1: God cooks, yeah, stove God man, like his situation is
- 58:10Speaker 1: so bad. He's been relegated to doing a ton of hooks,
- 58:15Speaker 1: which I think they're being smart because they say they're hooks,
- 58:18Speaker 1: but they kind of give them a verse. You know
- 58:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying right now. If you don't know Stove
- 58:26Speaker 1: God cooks, you're talking about Coke raps. This dude praised
- 58:31Speaker 1: at the altar of a stove, and at first I
- 58:34Speaker 1: thought it was silly, but I love it. I love
- 58:38Speaker 1: it every time it gets ridiculous over stove, like I'm
- 58:42Speaker 1: looking at a stove, like, damn, listen, I got a
- 58:45Speaker 1: stove pendit like. So he was perfect for the song
- 58:50Speaker 1: he's on Fight Go Again. I wanted a longer verse,
- 58:55Speaker 1: but I just think, you know, listening to uh west
- 58:59Speaker 1: Side Guns projects that he puts them on and all that,
- 59:03Speaker 1: it's like it's a lot of hooks that do sound
- 59:05Speaker 1: like versus and it sounds like he's doing the same
- 59:07Speaker 1: thing here. Oh, any thoughts on that.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Track, Well, I gotta hear here your your thoughts, like
- 59:15Speaker 3: not only stove God, yes, but can we can we
- 59:20Speaker 3: for a moment just talk about the technicality of that
- 59:26Speaker 3: fightcoh the raps.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Let's let's let's.
- 59:33Speaker 5: Talk about raps like rapping ability, like I got I
- 59:42Speaker 5: got my take, but I want to I want.
- 59:44Speaker 2: To know what you thought about Pusher.
- 59:46Speaker 3: And and and Malss versus on it.
- 59:50Speaker 2: Man.
- 59:53Speaker 1: Look, man, I it's it's to the point where listening
- 59:58Speaker 1: to this album as an is inspiring. It makes you
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: want to write. If you're a writer like that, right,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: if you are a recycler, you'll never you'll never understand
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: what I'm saying at this point. But if you're a
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: writer and you hear the fact that they could sound
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: like they're talking about the same things, but they're not,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and they're never talking about them in the same ways.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: And to have stove Gud's like brand of rap where
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: he's more like sing songy sometimes but he's more sing songie,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: but he's in that same technical realm as Analyson and
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: push a t. It was just like this could have
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: been really we even if we didn't have an album,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: this was released as a single, I'd be going crazy
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: because their bars are just they just draw you in
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: with their attention to detail, you know what I'm saying. Like,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: even if you're not a rapper, right, let's just say
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you're a hip hop head and you listen to every
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: single thing about especially An artist who was capable about
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: a verse or song this is this is the type
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: of stuff you want happening today. And that's how I
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: feel about this track in the album and Push your
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: T and Malane's performance is that they set it up
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: so much that I'm already drawn in to what they
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: have to say, and I'm already reeling off of what
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Push your T said, And I'm like, damn, stove God
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: didn't even get his hook verse in Malice didn't even.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Go yet, Like Yo, I ain't mean to cut you
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: off none. Yeah, you know. I was like, for that
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: FIGHTO you had with what stove God did, with with
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: what he brought to the table, his flow and that
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: bridge hook bringing it together. But Yo, these dudes rhyme stanzas,
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: the stanzas rhyme and then at the end of the
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: stanza the punchline and the word right.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: And both of them did that like flawless. I was like, Yo,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: what is.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Yo?
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: When I say that? Shifting the gears? I was like yo,
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: And I'm sorry, Yo. I got it with the next joint.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Man, Let's let's get to it, man, because this is
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: one of them tracks I was. I had to look
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: down at the title like what one is this? You know?
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Yo? And glorious Bassis Yo is why I couldn't. I
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: couldn't that That's what kept me up. The album was
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: already hot right that came on. I was like, I ain't,
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: I can't. I'm not going to sleep like and this
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: was after the first that first listen and I was
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: only thinking it was thirty three minutes, you know, even
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: on that first when that, like you said, I had
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: to look like what's yo?
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: That that beat?
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: Clue?
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Yes?
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: I was like, yo, okay, now they're talking to my
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: soul now now like that's why you know, It's like
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: what's that?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: That?
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: That that mean?
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: With Magic Johnson and he's eating the popcorn Like I
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: was already enjoying myself and blocked in yo that I
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: didn't go to sleep after that, And.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Then I got to courte what he said? He said, Yo,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: he said seats white. But the sixth blacke and umah,
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I was like, yo, what is that? What is going on?
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Like I ain't going to sleep after that and then
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: that of course the whole album want to run back.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: But after that, I was like I gotta sit with this,
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: like I'm not I'm not asleep. So if you know,
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: y'all y'all listening or y'all watching and glorious Bass's that's
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: my favorite favorite track of the whole the whole album,
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: the whole album. Like that, Yo, that beat yo so crazy.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Malade started cursing he hurts, I was.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: I had to do it. I'm like, yo, he hurts.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: It was yo, Like seriously, you're you're right.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: When that joint hit, I had to running back because
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: at first, I'm like, all right, let me you know
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: next record. You know, I like the fight Oh Joe.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I'm a big Stove Guy fan, so it's like I
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: like what they did together, and I didn't. I was
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: just in unbelievable territory because I'm like, nah, this next
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: record can't be this crazy considering what we've already heard.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: Like that's why I can't go to sleep at like
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: that is not like it can't be.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: This is getting better as we're going along.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: That's the first thing I thought, like, Yo, they they
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: doing this like so they I guess the like, but
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: it's not a front load. It's it's like, Okay, no,
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: we're not. We're not gonna fall off. You thought we
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: was it's not about to happen, but go ahead.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: And not that we're you know, condoning any of this,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: but it's kind of like a slow high slowly like
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: oh yeah, I'm nice. Oh wait a minute, you know,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: oh wait a minute, colda hospital corder ambland like it
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: felt like that because I was starting to settle in
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: after a while, like all right, let me see how
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: they finished, and you hear the clue. I was like,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: so we got a mixtape that, then we got mixtape
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: joints and they didn't use it once, y'all if you
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: haven't heard the record, they didn't use it once, which
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: which was just crazy because I think, you know, this
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: is just one of them albums where I think I'm
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: gonna get to the point of my favorite just changes.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Because there's some records I kind of leaned into because
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I just initially like them so much. But even when
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: I heard so far, hey, I was like, damn, this
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: is potent. Like not that anything else wasn't right, but
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: this could have let off the album like it was.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: It was one of those things where everything's so good
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: you don't have like, oh the sequencing and blah blah blah.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: It just felt like the hits keep coming, man, like
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know, man, Like you said, it's
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: the production. It's the attention to detail and the lyrics
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: and the delivery. And you know, we had what three
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: songs left, and I'm like, man, where is the whack record?
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Look now I'm looking for it. I did have one criticism,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: but I don't dislike the song. He passed it. It's
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: called All Things Considered. I liked the song. I just
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: didn't like the hook, you know what I'm saying. And
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: it was more so too much phar realisms for me,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Like I like the way he appears and everything else
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: he's on m This one was more so like this
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: sounds like it would be on your album, you know
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like featuring the clips because he was
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: more prominent, like you know, like how Swiss beats tends
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: to be, like if he's on it, he really on
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: the track. But once I got to like a second listen,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I didn't care. I care so, but I so. NAS
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: is at the end of this album and clips in
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: NAS title track basically mixed with a joint called Chandelier.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: First of all, the beat for Let God Sort Them
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Out had me like ready to like just let me
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: get on that, because but what do you think as
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: far as NASA's performance on here the song as a whole.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: H But yeah, I'm not gonna say what I'm gonna say.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think again it's great, great music, great music.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: But I have to say this, there's great and then
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: there's culturally inappropriate. You go between that on this on
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: this album.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: So I think it was a great song.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: I would have preferred a culturally inappropriate versus NAS, but
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I see it was more of the okay, we're we're
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: we're gonna get together and we got NAS on head.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: It's more of an upper echelon, bossed up type of
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: That was the feeling of it. I would have I
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: would have won it all cultural and a because after
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: the after the goddamn and glorious bastards, you know what
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I mean. But no, I think I think it's a
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: great song. It wasn't culturally inappropriate, but I think it
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: was a great song. Like you know, and I remember
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: when when you and.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: I were talking about it.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Leading up to this album, we were saying, like there
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: there would be comparisons like you know, clips in in
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: jay Z or Push It in jay Z and then
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: Nas and the clips like so I think that that's
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: great to go into that, into that lord you know
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: what I mean, like all right, well who you know
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Who?
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Who did they think? Who did it better? And now
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: I was I say Niles wasn't culturally inappropriate?
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: He was bossed up.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: He was.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: But if jay Z come back and he's culturally inappropriate,
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: it's like I not if we're comparing like all right, Na,
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: it's like and it's crazy and it's good that it's
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: fun to have those types of conversations like well, yeah,
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: Jay kind of got you on that in the in
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: the realm of clips curation. It's crazy how we're looking
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: at it like that. But I don't know that that
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: would actually happen. But if I think about neck and
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: Risks with Jay and Pusher, like that was jay Z
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: was talking talk he like like you said earlier, like yes,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: I know what we came to do, like we we're
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: doing that. I'm with all of that talk, Whereas I
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: think NAS felt that way too, But it's more of
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: where Malice is going with it some of on some
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: of the verses like I gotta be the the straight.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Man and the bossed up and.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Introspective and looking back and look where we are now,
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: what we're doing now. But it wasn't culturally inappropriate though
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: it wasn't.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Ab Liva was.
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: That was Kendrick that was culturally inappropriate. And when I
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: say that, well, the whole album culturally inappropriate. But when
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: I say that, those versus they're not safe, right, And
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: I'm not saying Noah's versus whack. I'm not saying that.
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: But we know culturally inappropriate, like we know that when
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: we hear it, And yeah, Kendrick was culturally inappropriate. Ad Liva,
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: I mean, yo, man, the seats white but the sixth
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: black and the umar I was just like yo, I'm like,
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: oh no, now this is straight up nineties you criminal raps,
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: I don't know, like just street raps. But yeah, but
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: then you know, brother Nas, let God sort them out.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: It started out hardcore, and then I would say Nas
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: brought it back to you know, Boston up.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: So that was my thoughts on it. But what did
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: you think?
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Yeah? I kind of felt the same like when I
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: heard it, especially the first time, it was like, all right,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: so we're getting new Nas flow. And then also in
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: some way in that, and you mentioned that earlier. It
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: was a little bit more like the clips, like he
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: was trying to capture how their articulation, not that he's
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: not articulate. They were doing it in a way that
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: reminded me of how pushing t does it. So it
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: felt like he was trying to fit in. Now we
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: know it's Ninas, but he ain't got to try to
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: fit in. But it sound that way. And like you said,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: everything he was saying was coming from a boss standpoint,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: like you know, y'all little niggas talking or whatever. But
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: he just ain't get ignorant like that. He didn't he
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: didn't take it there on the ignorance like you said.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: With jay Z, jay Z said, you know, I put
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: your mansion on my wall. You shitn't me like just
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: that alone, Like you don't have more money than me, dog,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: your your home, your whole home is right there. That
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: total for me, just that right so to me, that's
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: what you you know, that's what you were saying. And
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I felt like with Nas it was still dope. It
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: probably could have used a little chip tooth nons, a
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: little magic nons like you could have used a little
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: like Ethan Nas, like I know you ain't talking about you.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: Yeah, we even you gotta get caught. You gotta right inappropriate,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: you know what I mean. He was cool, he was
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: you know what I mean, bossed up. He was like
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: pucking his cigar out, you know what I mean, being
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: the Elder Statesman kind of guy.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Yes, it was. It definitely was an elder Statesman type verse.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Which which honestly, when you think about the features and
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: that NAS is the last one you hear, it's kind
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: of appropriate to get towards the end of the album
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: to be like all right, ladies and gentlemen, Nas, like,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: because we know on the internet you just say his name. Now,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: even the kids on it like that, like what Jim Jones?
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: What you hear that? Like it's all true. But it
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: also was a good segue into the record, which to
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: me is almost like full circle with the first record,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: which is called by the Grace of God. And at
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: first when I read it, I was like, oh no,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Malice was like, hey, I'm not back unless we get
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: one for the charge. But when I heard this, and
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: this is why I like that, dude, Lecrae, it was
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: way more relatable than preaching, and I think that's the
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: best way to reach anybody, right, you don't have to
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: convert people and stuff like that. And it's not really
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: even about that, but like you said earlier, it's another
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: space of being vulnerable and hearing the sincerity and both
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: of their verses. I just thought it was an excellent
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: way to end the album considering how you started the album.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: So this is the final song when Crazy Coke Rats
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: all over the Damn Place features you hear this song,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: what's your thoughts about.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: The end credits?
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: This was like the end credits to like Good Fellas
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: or something like that. Like it was just the end
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: credits for this, uh.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: This cinematic.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: Album we just you know, listened to and I was
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: I was, you know, glad to hear it and it
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: because my first experience that it cut off, I was like,
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: what the hell is going on? Like I want to
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: hear the rest of it. I didn't even I didn't
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: get to push his verse.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Oh wow, you know.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: What I'm saying. So I'm like, yo, what is not like?
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: So when I got to hear everything and the entire
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: album and then that that being the last track, yeah, man,
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: it just felt like the end credits. I got that
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: feeling before from to the Casket Drops and uh, I
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: think that was on on Hell Have No Fury the
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: last night I've seen something make my life, made my
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: life change, you know. So it's like, man again, production wise,
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: they the craftsman, the craftsmanship. They know how to close
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: out the hout like the beginning to close out like
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: this booking, you know, the same way that we entered.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: We're gonna leave on that on that same note. Exquisite raps,
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: vulnerable and what they what they.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Stand for, you know.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Yeah, man, Yeah, it's like they laid out their core
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: principles as men, right, Like, yeah, we about the coke
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: rap and stuff like that, but songs like this hit differently.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: They take you out of that, you know, just enjoyment,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: because honestly, it would be boring if it was just
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: about coke raps and street and over and over and
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: over again. But again, these are the songs that ther
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: first impression hits you from the first track and the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: last song gives you. They make sure you leave with
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: that same impression in a lot of ways about them
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: as men. So yeah, I mean you're right, man, just
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: just a really dope album. Man likes one of the
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: best of the years so far.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Hell yeah, yeah, see, I gotta lead that up to you.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Brother, I don't even be on that.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Oh I could answer it's it's it's bumping something out
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: of my top five today. Now that doesn't mean what
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: ever gets bumped out isn't one of the best of
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: the year. But as far as the top five, and
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: we got a long way to go, it's a bunch
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: of things coming, like Ray Kwan is out next week,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: so well see. But as far as this, everything we
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: name right about the production again, the attention to detail,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: the specific, like I said it the best, like you
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: can only get this here. You're not gonna get somebody
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: else's album sounding like this because it was crafted. It
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: was tailored like a suit for the clips and what
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: they were talking about. And one last thing about that
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: last track, I think that's what I like the most
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: about it. They could have been saying something totally different
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: on that beat because the way that beat hits, it's
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: not like when I saw the title, I'm thinking like, Okay,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: maybe it's gonna have a gospel tone to it, and
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: they get some singing and blah blah blah, and you know,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: it was almost like I was trying to predict what
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: rappers typically do when they're taking this kind of route.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: But then when I heard the beat, I'm like, you
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: could be spitting anything over that, Like this beat is
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: ahead and eye type joint. So it was just like,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: you know, a dope record. But before we get out
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: of here, I just wanted to because I want your
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: thoughts on this. So a week or two ago, I
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: did an episode of my podcast hip Hop Now Podcasts
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: subscribe on YouTube and it's available in an audio form
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: where I asked the question is the Clips album over hyped? Now?
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: It was a question some of y'all on the internet.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: You just you think everything is a debate. You think
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: everything is a statement and a thumbnail. So I had
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: to put out a clip so you would know what
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: I felt about, and obviously my answer was I don't
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: think it's overhyped. Well now I said, I thought it
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: was overhyped and I love it. Yeah, because of everything
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: we just explained, let overhype brings in new listeners because
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: they want to know what all the hype is about. Right.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: But that question that I didn't address in that episode
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: came from a lot of MC's that I have in
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: my top five like two Days Spinners that seemed like
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: they were hating. And it wasn't just Jim Jones. Jim
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Jones was clearing man, Hey man, I'm trying to get engagement. Man, Yo,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: jay Z you want this work. He not better than me,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: so I don't pay him no attention. But there was
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: some subliminals and there was some noticeable MC from that
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: same group that didn't say anything that I think understand
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: on a much deeper level about the rap game and
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: the implications of what they may imply. And so those
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: artists were Benny the Butcher, thirty eight Special, and Ransom,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: and it was the tone because they weren't being direct,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: which I really don't respect, Boss, but the tone was
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: more like, I don't believe these rappers right in general. Now.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Jim Jones said it straight up, I don't believe them
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: when they rap talking about the clips. But then to
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: see Benny kind of allude to it in the tweet,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: then Ransom say some stuff and he didn't say he
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: was talking about them, and he said he liked them
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: and all that, So I don't know, but it was
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: ironic that Benny, eight Special and Ransom were all alluding
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to the same rappers who aren't believable. One other thing
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: I'll just throw in there before I get your point
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: about this Benny, who is one of my favorite rappers.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: You gotta stop talking, dog, You gotta shut up, because
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: if we're just being real, thirty eight specs watched you
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: on that last shot and stab too, and I was
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: a little disappointed because you my guy. But when you
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: come to your defense of believing being believable, this man
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: ran down.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: I was locked up until I had attempt and I
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: was now and then I was locked up for sixteen
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: reading off like it's degrees and certifications and one Twitter
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: follow us at at the best this man bragging about
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: getting caught, Yeah, which is disappointing to me because I
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: want to go to bat for him, like, nah, leave
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: him alone. What's disappointing is if you take your hat off,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: you look like George Jefferson dogs, leaving these other rappers
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: some animal to get at you. Okay, So I gotta say,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: but what do you think about even just a culture
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: of even though they didn't stand on it. And the
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: other thing I left out was Conway and Westside Gun
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: said nothing that says a lot for two guys, especially Conway,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: who could match what push your t and well, not
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: to say that Ransom in them camp, but it was
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: it was clear that these guys were alluding to something
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: during the conversation that Jim Jones basically poached directly about
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: being able to believe these rappers and Malice I think
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: said something like that on the album about uh, you know,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: being believable, saying how he rapped to lyrics to cats
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: he didn't believe.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: I think he was rapers with dudes. He did not,
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: he ain't believe. Yeah, he was on records with dudes.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: So what do you do you think about that? Because
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: obviously all these guys could spit, they all in that
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: same realm of street raps and stuff like that. Do
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: you see it as hating? And Ransom's in there loosely
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: because at least he kind of directly addressed what he
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: was saying. But do you do you feel like it's
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: some hating because of all the hype or is it
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: justified in their opinions? Is that their opinions?
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: The justified part again A simple YouTube, sir. It popped
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: up in my algorithm. This dude was telling every everything
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: like yo, we got it from. It was the dude
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: was from Pama, Panama and he was telling everything. He
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: was like, yes, they were involved, we were doing it,
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: And so I mean, sure they might not know. I
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: ain't doing no YouTube. I ain't looking at no video.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: I don't care about none of that.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: They ain't got no rap sheet like me. I don't
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: believe none.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: Of that, you know. But it's like, yo, man, they
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: can they can have their opinion.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Uh, but it's like, yo, you you.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: Gotta make something that people are gonna get excited about.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: It's about for me, it's about the work. I don't
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: want to hear y'all.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: Yo. Just do your raps. Yo, do your raps. Yo,
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: do your raps. You get it to where you got
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: that much skin in the game. These dudes been they've
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: been here, they've been here, they've been curating.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: They can get.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: They Yo, you you should be working on that. You
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: should be working on that. And okay you don't believe
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: them all right, Well, we want to hear all of
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: your raps about how authentic you are over some great
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: music with some great flows.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: We want to we want to hear you do it. Okay,
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: you tell us, you tell us what it is. Then
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: over great over greatness, go be great.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Don't you know what I mean?
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Why Yo?
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: They great?
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: Dona? I don't want to I don't want to hear
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: about nobody talking about I don't.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: I don't want to hear it. I don't want to
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: hear it, especially not from though no other rapper.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: You know, fans, you know, you know, hip hop listeners,
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: people that are gonna comment. Okay, everybody's got an opinion.
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: But as far as competitive and competition, yo, man, I
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: just don't what you make you do work, You continue
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: to work, do your work. Like even if I think
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: about like Freddie Gibbs and what happened between Freddy Gibbs
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: and Butcher, you know, like Freddy Gibbs just kept working
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: despite that outcome that that definitely wasn't a good look.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: You got you got caught up, right, but.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: Freddy just kept working, kept rapping.
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: At the end of the day, I got these raps, right.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: I got the raps, you know I got I got
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: jumped like all right, I ain't superman, you know what
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: I mean, But yo, my rap, I can rap. I
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: got the raping ability and I make great music. That's
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: what y'all gotta That's what y'all gotta do. That's what
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: they gotta continue to do. And like Jones, I don't,
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: I don't know, you know what I mean, Like I don't.
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: There's no footage of Pusher t running running out from
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: no basketball court nowhere, like we we ain't seen that,
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: So I don't when we're talking about authenticity, I don't know, man,
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Just just do just rap.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Yo, everybody do they they raps and being competitive, Okay,
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: were poking fun, were doing jabs, all right, I guess,
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: but Yo, let's just do your raps and maybe maybe
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: they'll be inspired, maybe, because that was one thing from
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: this album that I was thinking about. And I don't
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: know how other folks want to take you right, but
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: for me, by the time I got to the end
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: of it, it's like, Yo, this is like giving me
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: like I, you know, enjoy hip hop in the first place,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Like I'm getting that feeling from it, like I listened
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: to it or enjoy it because of people taking it seriously,
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: because of the craftsman ship, because of the attention of
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: details with the flows and the beats and and locking in.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: That's what that's why I listened to That's that's what
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: I want to listen to it for. Like I think
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: it was malice, it might have been malas what might
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: have been pushed, that might have been pushed your tea,
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: it was push your tee, like this whole thing about
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: you know about the tea, like spilling the tea, like
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: I don't you know, sure within your bars you can
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: get that, but that's not the sole reason for this.
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: And that's why I think this whole thing about cultural
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: being culturally inappropriate. This album was definitely anti anti everything
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: y'all talking about it reminds me of that that that
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: Nipsey Hustle line, Like, Yo, what you're talking about? I'm
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: talking about this, right, That's what That's what I got
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: from this album. Like, Yo, we talk about this, you know.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: That's what I got from GNX man talking about this
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: right right. So that's what I would expect from Jones,
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: That's what I would expect from Benny okay talking about this.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Give me, give us that, give us that man.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: And it's weird because when you like, even as a
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: fan of the guys I name, especially Ransom and even
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: thirty eight special because I'm not the biggest fan, but
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: that has more to do with his voice for me
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: than his bars, Like his bar is nothing to mess
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: with at all, regardless of how I feel about you know,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: his voice, he can't help that, and some people like
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: that about him. But their attention to detail is like
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: the clips when they're writing, and what I don't understand
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: and and you know obviously with Benny also, but what
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: I don't understand is like you said, you should be inspired,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: but it feels like you don't like the amount of
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: attention that they're getting. That's why I was like, is
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: it overright? Because when Benny drops Conway, I don't he
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: doesn't even tweet like or I don't even think he's
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: on Twitter anymore the way he used to. But and
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Westside Gun doesn't do this no more. But they always
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: had this like negative reaction to not getting enough from fans,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: and not just fans, maybe Benny because he's only one
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: that talks bad about his fans sometimes, but more so
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: like content creators and people who could probably take them
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: to that next level by covering them. But I always
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: thought that attitude was a turnoff and it will take
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: away from lyrics, and I like the way Conway just
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: stepped back from it, Like, yeah, I feel the way
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I feel. Maybe it's not the best thing to just
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: keep tweeting about it. That's not gonna make people like
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: me more exactly exactly, So that's what it feels like, like, well,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: we just did this, you know, while we like Ransom
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: has one of my favorite top five for the year,
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: him and Davies, and it's it's Vinyl call is the
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: name of the joint ep and it's that same attention
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: and detail back and forth. But what they don't understand
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: is the clips. In the view of hip hop fans,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: there's a nostalgia factor with this also, like.
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: Just I think there's nostalgia, but I think that it's different. Man,
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: It's different, man. This product was different. The curation, it's different.
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: Like I get it if they had the technical prowless
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: and they can wrap to nobody's taking away from these
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: folks skilled their skill level. But again, you can't get
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: what they did. You can't get it from nowhere else.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: That's why people are excited. You can't, you know. And
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: I think those brothers should work work on that, Like
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: what is it? What is it about that, like why
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: is it? Why is it working? Like why like and
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: hone in on that, like why is it? Why are
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: they getting that fan like that?
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I think I can answer that for Rea, It's for real.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Pharrell has a he has a hit making ability, but
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: he's not giving them the hits he's made for himself
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: and others that are clearly geared towards a larger audience
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: and radio and all of that. He's given them something
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: that's right in between. It's the boom back, but it's
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: the crispiness of this shit. How when you listening to
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: it right, like listening to it with them damn headphones
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: on and it got the Space Show audio, so you
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: turn your head. It feels like the music is like
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: in three D. It's the same thing that Me and
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Kill always say about, like Doctor dres Compton and even
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: that Snoop album and the Marsha and Brosia album. They
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: just sound good. Like it's not even just the beats.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: They just sound crip. They sound expensive. This whole album
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: sounds expensive. Oh you know what I'm saying. So and
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: again I like them. I'm there for everything they drop.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: But there's a difference between what I described like we
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: in Paris, we on the runway. We look possessed by
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: the luxurious ass everything that's happening, and the nigga that
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: could buy all the color waves from Jordan's. There's a difference.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: There's a difference, you know what I'm saying. Let me
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: get that wall, let me get that neighborhood. That's the difference.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: So I like, I think again it's tired. It died
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: down some after that because I think people was honing
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: in on that, like, Yo, why y'all hating? But and
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: you know again, I think the way Ransom maybe is
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: just good. The way Ransom responds to that told me
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: he probably might have been talking in general. I mean,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: for all we know, he could have been talking about Dannity.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: They could have been talking about each other that we
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: don't know, you know what I'm saying, We don't know
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: the man making a lot of enemies, you know, just
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: talking too much. But it just felt like they you know,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: you know what it is also, you know before we
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: end this, but I think the rollout has been perfect
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: for this album. Everything that could happen that should happen
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: is happening, from the features to the videos, the interviews,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: the unique videos that kind of give ace trumpets and
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: so being you know, life, and we didn't even see
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: the chains in which video yet what should be dropping soon?
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: The Tiny Desk hitting they own the Breakfast Club right
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: in the morning. They are owning the conference station on
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: hip hop at least for the next three days. And
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: I think when these other guys drop, we get excited.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: But Ransom not on Breakfast Club, Tiny Death's not calling them,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: not that they shouldn't, but you know, maybe somebody there
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: don't know you know what I'm saying, or maybe he's
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: not making enough noise. So I think it's some of
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: those things that play into it that make these guys
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: and people who feel like them want to say, like
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: it's overrated, like the album. I know that's gonna come
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: with the album, but you know it's it's your opinion, and.
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: Think the thing is like so when you think about
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: those those brothers like Ransom, Bennie thirty eight, like, okay,
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: you're not on Tiny Desk, but there's like other other
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: like what's the joint. I forget what it's called, but
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: this is the joint where they be on the front porch,
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: Like I've seen the locks on that joint, like when
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: they was on the on the front porch and they
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: they bring out the microphones and they be rhyming like.
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: It's like, are y'all willing?
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: Are y'all willing to do that? Is that something that
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: they want to do? You know?
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Like because.
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: Yes, they're not on on tiny desks and clips are,
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: but they have that pedigree to be there, you know,
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: and they're they're gonna be with that one hundred percent.
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: Are these other guys do they want to do they
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: want to do that?
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Is it just?
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: Nah? My stuff is too hardcore, Like it's only for
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: the people that's out there pounding the pavement right now, Like,
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: ain't nothing with no that stuff is corny? I ain't
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: doing that, is it? You know? Because again it's it's
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: the music. It's it's the music business, and this is marketing.
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: This is promotion. So some somebody doing their job.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: They're just doing their job. That's why it's everywhere.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: And then they have the pedigree, they have the music
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: to back it up so that overhype. Man. I mean,
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: it's not just it's this isn't just marketing.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: It's marketing. Now if it wasn't.
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: Good right now we getting in the Okay, now we
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: getting in a different territory.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: But when you live up to what it is, so big,
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: so big, like what are we? What are we talking
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: about it?
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: They already answered your question two things. One, you may
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: want it, but then you get invited, because that's a
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: real thing. Like you may want it, they may not
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: be calling you, uh, which I don't know right because
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: I've seen some I've seen enough tiny death to know
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: they could get on them for sure if someone's looking
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: to put them on there. But also, and this is key,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: when I went to look at clips merch vinyl everything
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: before this album came out, I was shocked at the
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: prices because signed pink vinyl, which was clearly exclusive, was
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: only twenty eight dollars. Now, anybody who's followed some of
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: these guys, particular on the Griselda side of things, no,
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: damn well, when they merch drop, it ain't no twenty
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: five dollars now. Granted, maybe that's opening the can of
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: worms where you know, most of these guys on especially
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Ransom's kind of on some independent stuff, so you know
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: he is part of his hustle. And to see this
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: rollout merch that undercuts the market right, saying you ain't
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: got to pay all of that. We'll sign it for
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: you thirty dollars. You know, new Bennie. Oh I can
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: get this new Benny. Oh he got the green vinyl
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: for the new whatever album? Oh wait what one hundred?
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Wait what? I don't even know?
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: Are you sure you don't believe that they was really
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: out there right right? Because it looked like they're applying tactics.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: Are you sure?
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm saying? Like, that's how it works? Oh,
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: y'all got that over there. Y'all got read to oh
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: the meat right, let me go over there. Let me see.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: That's how y'all brothers, y'all know, that's how. So that's
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: I don't understand that, you know.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Like, but and look to be clear that anybody watching
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: or listening, we can't confirm that they were talking about
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: the clips. I just felt the time that the timing
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: was I could see somebody thinking, well, Jim Jones said it,
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: here's my opportunity. I'm not gonna put all my chips
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: on it and say it directly like he did, And
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna just do a New York thing again. From Brooklyn,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: New York. I like, I like these guys, but that's
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Harlem and Bronx. Nah. I don't like the clips straight
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: to it not yo. I don't be believing these rappers,
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: but I'm not gonna tell you who they are say
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: their name.
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: I want to see that battle.

- 1:44:54Speaker 1: I don't want to see Jim Jones. We know he

- 1:45:00Speaker 1: y'all if that's how y'all feeling. So it was interesting.
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: I can't. I can't even think that this would be
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: an issue. Maybe it was a tactic to engage them
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: in some kind of way and get more looks off
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: of the strength of that. But thinking kind of backfired,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: at least for Benny amongst his fans to start talking
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: about his headline and all kinds of stuff and talking
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: about he got to drop from Depth Jam. I didn't
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: hear that, but Possibility. I like that album. It's also
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: the album where he says bringing back the DMX feeling. Yeah,
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: the Feeling ninety eight. It's like, oh, so you're about
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: to draw two albums to go black them in the
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: same year. That did not happen.
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: Y'all.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: So, what do y'all think about the new Clips album?
