Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second to day
- 0:08Speaker 1: three wide receivers now in motion has Puppas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving kitchen the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's
- 0:33Speaker 1: up on Michael Bumpus along with Nasa Cholby and this
- 0:36Speaker 1: is hot talked the recap edition. Cowboys come up to
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Northwest and they take a l thirty eight to
- 0:43Speaker 1: thirty one. Great performance by the Seahawk offense. And like
- 0:46Speaker 1: we usually do, let's get into these trenches with Ray Roberts.
- 0:52Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk
- 0:55Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. Big Ray happening, just feeling like a villain man,
- 1:02Speaker 1: feeling good to h I guess I wasn't a tough win,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but just an exciting one. Nonetheless, and so just recovering
- 1:09Speaker 1: from it this morning, recovering from it, and you know,
- 1:13Speaker 1: I want to go straight to the old line, man,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I mean, Damy and Lewis goes down, you potty as
- 1:18Speaker 1: banged that, we see Simmons in there, and it seemed
- 1:21Speaker 1: like they didn't skip a beat. It seemed like Russell
- 1:23Speaker 1: had a lot of time to work. Um when it
- 1:26Speaker 1: comes to throwing the football, what'd you see out of
- 1:28Speaker 1: this old line? So I was super impressed because when
- 1:31Speaker 1: Damian Lewis went down and then um Simmons came in
- 1:36Speaker 1: for him, and then your potty went down, and then
- 1:39Speaker 1: uh so Jamarco Jones came in and Simmons went to
- 1:42Speaker 1: the other side. So I was really curious to see
- 1:45Speaker 1: how that was going to hold up. Simmons played a
- 1:47Speaker 1: little bit last year and played well when he did
- 1:50Speaker 1: before he got injured, and so he's there type of
- 1:54Speaker 1: a player along the offensive line, and so I was
- 1:57Speaker 1: really impressed. I think that they spent a lot of time,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm energy and money on the offensive line this all season,
- 2:02Speaker 1: trying to create competition and depth, and I think it
- 2:06Speaker 1: paid off for him. And if you if you look
- 2:07Speaker 1: at the whole game yesterday, there are just a There
- 2:11Speaker 1: are a lot of dudes that were in backup roles
- 2:13Speaker 1: that contributed greatly to the win. If you look at
- 2:16Speaker 1: Alton Robinson coming in and getting some pass rush and
- 2:20Speaker 1: getting you know, getting some hits on the quarterback. If
- 2:22Speaker 1: you look at you know, uh Sha team having to
- 2:25Speaker 1: come in and place like a spy type player near
- 2:28Speaker 1: the end of the game to try to slow down
- 2:29Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboy offense and made a couple of plays.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You look at you know, Neil with the interception at
- 2:35Speaker 1: the end of the game. So the Sales have to
- 2:37Speaker 1: still they can't be super excited about the injuries they had,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but they got to be super excited about the guys
- 2:43Speaker 1: that they brought up for this game that maybe weren't
- 2:46Speaker 1: expected to contribute as much but contribute contributed greatly in
- 2:50Speaker 1: a good way. Yeah, it's always nice when you get
- 2:53Speaker 1: contributions from guys that you don't really count on. You know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: There there's twos and threes and they come in and
- 2:58Speaker 1: they make plays. Now this offense is scoring over thirty
- 3:02Speaker 1: points a game. Is this something that has to continue
- 3:05Speaker 1: for this team to reach all the goals they have
- 3:07Speaker 1: set for themselves. I would say they have to keep
- 3:10Speaker 1: the scoring, you know, at least you know, twenty seven,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know, thirty points a game at this point until
- 3:15Speaker 1: the defense kind of catch us up to be able
- 3:18Speaker 1: to shut people down and uh and not have to
- 3:20Speaker 1: you know, have this the shootout type of games. I
- 3:23Speaker 1: don't think that, um, I don't think for the long
- 3:27Speaker 1: haul that this this type of style for the entire
- 3:30Speaker 1: team is going to be sustainable where you're just trying
- 3:32Speaker 1: to uh, you know, outscore the other pointed at such
- 3:36Speaker 1: a at such a high rate. So I think the
- 3:38Speaker 1: defense at some point has to has to come into play.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And then I think also, like we talked yesterday, the
- 3:45Speaker 1: running game is going to have to act as some
- 3:47Speaker 1: defense against other teams just to kind of slow them
- 3:50Speaker 1: down and take the air out of the ball, give
- 3:52Speaker 1: them less time to operate, because then that also asks
- 3:54Speaker 1: pressure to their play callers and their players and their
- 3:56Speaker 1: decision makers, and that doesn't give them so much time
- 3:59Speaker 1: to try to attack that Seattle defense. All right, now,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask you something I know you're passionate about,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and let me remind you this is a family program.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But Chris Carson's injury, I mean, we saw that thing
- 4:13Speaker 1: live up close and personnel got Gator rolled on. What
- 4:17Speaker 1: are your thoughts behind that whole situation? It's I mean,
- 4:21Speaker 1: it's just a really really dirty play for a guy
- 4:24Speaker 1: that is like second year in the league, uh, trying
- 4:27Speaker 1: to trying to make his come up, you know, as
- 4:29Speaker 1: a defensive tackle playing good football, like things like that
- 4:32Speaker 1: are just not necessary. It just I mean, and you're
- 4:35Speaker 1: you're you're doing against a player who has battled his
- 4:39Speaker 1: entire football career to stay healthy and on the field,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and then for you to do something like that that
- 4:45Speaker 1: will jeopardize his ability to be available to the team.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And Chris Carson's in a contract here. I'm sure he's
- 4:51Speaker 1: not thinking about all of that as he's doing this
- 4:53Speaker 1: horrendous play. But Mike, I was so angry about it,
- 4:58Speaker 1: Like I just I couldn't even put it, put it
- 5:00Speaker 1: down throughout the night, Like I came home and I
- 5:02Speaker 1: was still angry about it. You know, we we shared
- 5:04Speaker 1: them on the group masthagated stuff like like stuff like that.
- 5:07Speaker 1: As an offensive lineman, it really gets under my skin.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And and and the only thing I can think of
- 5:12Speaker 1: is retaliation. And then and I'm not talking about like
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know, a fine from Troy Vincent or the NFL.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about offensive lineman taking care of the business
- 5:21Speaker 1: and and uh and that business is protecting your own
- 5:23Speaker 1: and so uh it. I woke up this morning with
- 5:26Speaker 1: it on my mind again, and it's just I just
- 5:28Speaker 1: can't time. I cannot get rid of it. But it's
- 5:30Speaker 1: a really really really really dirty play man, and I
- 5:33Speaker 1: don't know what the you know, consequences can be. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: don't know if the NFL has any you know, oversight
- 5:38Speaker 1: over something like that, but uh, but if there is,
- 5:41Speaker 1: something needs to be done that way. But then uh,
- 5:43Speaker 1: there's there should be some offensive lineman on some other
- 5:45Speaker 1: teams that should handle their business with him in a
- 5:48Speaker 1: in a certain way. Well, I saw a tweet from
- 5:51Speaker 1: Joe Fan. He says that that player will be fined. Um,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but you know this is gonna be like when a
- 5:58Speaker 1: pitcher throwze out a or when when a batter like
- 6:01Speaker 1: celebrates a home run and the pictures throws at them.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You know, there's got there's gonna be some some street justice.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I feel like when it comes to that, hopefully it's
- 6:08Speaker 1: nothing too crazy. But I'm gonna say, you know, I've
- 6:13Speaker 1: taken it for the team. A few times in my career.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So so somebody needs to step up and just take
- 6:20Speaker 1: one for the teams. Like even if you got to
- 6:21Speaker 1: put a backup in for a few players, let them
- 6:23Speaker 1: take a couple of shots and get him kicked out
- 6:26Speaker 1: of the game and put the starter back in. I
- 6:27Speaker 1: don't know, but it's just that type of play man.
- 6:29Speaker 1: It's just not necessarily it's uncalled for, uncalled for. Uh.
- 6:33Speaker 1: This defense now it continues to give up a bunch
- 6:35Speaker 1: of bunch of yards, a bunch of points. I mean,
- 6:38Speaker 1: what do you see out of this defense? What needs
- 6:40Speaker 1: to be fixed? How do they get themselves out of this?
- 6:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't call it a slump or just out of this.
- 6:45Speaker 1: This this performances, these performances they've been putting on its
- 6:48Speaker 1: last few weeks. Well, I think that the two things
- 6:50Speaker 1: that needs to uh obviously like uh be addressed as
- 6:54Speaker 1: like third down, like getting third down calls and defenses
- 6:58Speaker 1: that can get the defense off the f and then
- 7:00Speaker 1: the chunkyards. They've given up a lot of uh ten
- 7:03Speaker 1: plus fifteen plus yard plays and so you have to
- 7:06Speaker 1: you have to address that. And I think, uh, even
- 7:09Speaker 1: though the game kind of got a little bit away
- 7:12Speaker 1: from them on defense yesterday. There were still some good
- 7:15Speaker 1: things in that game, Like there there was a you
- 7:18Speaker 1: could see an improved pass rush. It wasn't consistent throughout
- 7:21Speaker 1: the game, but you could see at moments where uh,
- 7:24Speaker 1: where the Russia was working and whether it was either
- 7:27Speaker 1: blitzing or you had Robinson coming or what um can
- 7:30Speaker 1: ever say to do the same? Mayoa Mayoa Um. You
- 7:34Speaker 1: know he looks like he's um turning into like a
- 7:36Speaker 1: good pass rusher. I think he just needs a little
- 7:38Speaker 1: bit more consistency and working with his hands a little
- 7:41Speaker 1: bit a little bit. But there were some good things
- 7:44Speaker 1: in that and then you, like I said, you had
- 7:45Speaker 1: the guys making the plays at the end of the
- 7:47Speaker 1: game that had to come in with the Griffin and
- 7:49Speaker 1: with Neil, and so there are some good things to
- 7:52Speaker 1: take away from it. However, when the when the captain
- 7:55Speaker 1: of the defense, Bobby Wagner, doesn't look real excited to
- 8:00Speaker 1: win during a press conference, then you know that he
- 8:03Speaker 1: knows that they know that there's some issues on that
- 8:05Speaker 1: defense that they need to get addressed. And so I
- 8:08Speaker 1: have faith in Pete Carroll's history was defense is history,
- 8:11Speaker 1: coaching defense is knowledge of defense, and also with Ken
- 8:15Speaker 1: Norton that they're gonna they're gonna make the adjustment. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: think they'll make. I don't know, like Paul said, at
- 8:19Speaker 1: this point, I don't know if they'll be like a
- 8:21Speaker 1: top ten or fifteen defense, But I think they'll get
- 8:23Speaker 1: to the point where they're not giving up four in
- 8:25Speaker 1: the top of the yard the game and they can
- 8:27Speaker 1: get off the field on third down and then the
- 8:29Speaker 1: offense doesn't have to score thirty eight points to win. Yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 1: it's it's evident. Everybody knows. And I think that fans
- 8:36Speaker 1: need to chill a little bit when it comes to
- 8:38Speaker 1: their criticism because these guys are on the field. They
- 8:40Speaker 1: see that they dak knew for four to seventy. They
- 8:43Speaker 1: see that they're putting up point. So we'll see how
- 8:44Speaker 1: they adjust. So now, last one I got for you
- 8:47Speaker 1: Ray Russell Wilson fourteen touchdowns first three games, NFL record,
- 8:52Speaker 1: playing at extremely high level. What are you seeing out
- 8:54Speaker 1: of this guy? And do you think this can't continue? Well,
- 8:58Speaker 1: the thing that I think they can tinue that you can,
- 9:01Speaker 1: like you know that the house on Russell Wilson is
- 9:06Speaker 1: at a place in his career and with his knowledge
- 9:09Speaker 1: of this offense that he is probably making the right
- 9:12Speaker 1: decision ninety nine percent of the time. And I'm not
- 9:15Speaker 1: just saying that just to kind of elevate it, like
- 9:17Speaker 1: I almost want to give him a hundred percent of
- 9:19Speaker 1: the time because it just feels that way. Like every
- 9:21Speaker 1: pass he makes, every audible he makes U you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: every decision when he decides to pick the ball down
- 9:26Speaker 1: and run, Like every decision he's making his own point.
- 9:30Speaker 1: And I think with the way Russell goes about his work,
- 9:33Speaker 1: the way he goes about his study, the way he
- 9:35Speaker 1: goes about his preparation, that is something that's not going
- 9:38Speaker 1: to drop off throughout the year. Now. The defense is
- 9:41Speaker 1: that the defensive they play against may make some plays,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but it won't be because Russell made the wrong decision.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And I think that's the thing that you can rest on.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That's the thing that will give this offense the chance
- 9:51Speaker 1: to be this explosive throughout the whole season, because Russell
- 9:54Speaker 1: is a is in a place where he's just making
- 9:57Speaker 1: the right decisions, and I just don't I don't see
- 9:59Speaker 1: that falling off just because of the way Russell lives.
- 10:02Speaker 1: In RUSS we trust. We also trust Big Ray and
- 10:05Speaker 1: all the information he gives us. Appreciate you taking time.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'll talk to you against soon man. Yeah. Third Gold Hawks,
- 10:13Speaker 1: NASA Choby Hawks are three and no three and no dog.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. Every Monday, I get excited
- 10:20Speaker 1: because they're all Victory mondays. The v MAC is a
- 10:23Speaker 1: great place when we win football games. And we keep
- 10:26Speaker 1: doing that this year. Three and O great start, three
- 10:28Speaker 1: no great start. Let's keep it rolling. But let's talk
- 10:30Speaker 1: about how they did it. What ha happened? NASA, see
- 10:32Speaker 1: what happened at first? What had happened was unhawke dog,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'll tell you what had happened. Russell Wilson is doing
- 10:43Speaker 1: his thing once again. Five touchdowns, taking care of the football.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Seems like he's in complete control with everything that he's doing,
- 10:51Speaker 1: not forcing the ball down the field, has a chance
- 10:54Speaker 1: to win the game, goes out and wins the football game.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And he didn't play his best football. Well, the fact
- 11:00Speaker 1: that you can even say a sentence about a guy
- 11:03Speaker 1: not playing his best football when the dude throws for
- 11:05Speaker 1: five touchdowns should have had six, I mean, it's it's honestly,
- 11:09Speaker 1: it's unreal. And you guys talked to Pete Carroll this
- 11:12Speaker 1: morning on Danny Gallant, and he talked about his conviction
- 11:15Speaker 1: right with his conviction over this offense. He talked about
- 11:18Speaker 1: a ball on that last drive that he threw a
- 11:20Speaker 1: slant to DK decadn't catch, but I mean Russell threw
- 11:23Speaker 1: it about one thousand miles for hours to fastball, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: Pete just talked about you can just see in some
- 11:27Speaker 1: of his throws when he needs to zip it in
- 11:29Speaker 1: there and get those tight windows. He's right on. When
- 11:31Speaker 1: he's just floated over the top like he did to
- 11:33Speaker 1: Tye Lockett, he's right on. So the man is just
- 11:35Speaker 1: balling out. I'm really running out of things to say
- 11:37Speaker 1: about him because he's so freaking good. He's in complete
- 11:40Speaker 1: control of the situation. I'd tell you who's not in
- 11:42Speaker 1: control is that defense. They gave up a bunch of yards,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but it seems like when it's time to make a play,
- 11:47Speaker 1: when there's absolutely no other choice, they come up big
- 11:51Speaker 1: and get to pick out the end of the game. Yeah. No,
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's a great story too, And you gotta look at
- 11:55Speaker 1: the guy who got that pick. Ryan Neil was on
- 11:57Speaker 1: the practice squad, gets a call Sunday morning, has no
- 12:00Speaker 1: idea that he's gonna be suited up. And then on
- 12:02Speaker 1: top of that and not only a you're gonna be
- 12:04Speaker 1: active in playing. Okay, you can run down a kickoff
- 12:06Speaker 1: special teams. Cool. Then Jamal Adams goes down and now
- 12:08Speaker 1: you're playing in crunch time. So it's really awesome to
- 12:11Speaker 1: see him get that pick at the end of the game.
- 12:13Speaker 1: And it's really great to see all these unsung heroes,
- 12:15Speaker 1: guys that we didn't think we'd call upon, making big
- 12:18Speaker 1: plays at the end of games. Next man up. That's
- 12:21Speaker 1: one of the most common sayings in football because this
- 12:24Speaker 1: inevitable guys are going to get hurt and someone else
- 12:27Speaker 1: is going to try to step up. You know, it's
- 12:29Speaker 1: been stepping up all year. Tyler Lockett DK metcalf DK
- 12:33Speaker 1: had his little mishap but the fumble, but came through
- 12:36Speaker 1: later with a game winning touchdown. But Tyler Lockett continues
- 12:40Speaker 1: to make this offense go, Oh my goodness, yeah. He
- 12:43Speaker 1: Without Tyler Lockett, I have no idea where we'd be. Obviously,
- 12:46Speaker 1: Russell Wilson's the MVP the National Football League right now,
- 12:48Speaker 1: but Tyler Lockett, he's mister consistent. If you need to
- 12:52Speaker 1: get the offense going, especially in the past game, you're
- 12:53Speaker 1: gonna find Tyler Lockett three touchdowns. I mean, the dude
- 12:56Speaker 1: is just he's unreal and heat. He just finds a
- 12:58Speaker 1: way to get open man. He's a technician straight up.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Now they're playing at such a high level. We talked
- 13:04Speaker 1: about can these guys both have a thousand yards at
- 13:07Speaker 1: the end of the season. They are on pace to
- 13:09Speaker 1: do exactly that. And I think once the tight ends
- 13:12Speaker 1: get more involved, I mean, that's really gonna open this
- 13:15Speaker 1: offense up. So offense is playing at a high level,
- 13:18Speaker 1: but I still think there's another step they can take. Now.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The unfortunate part of this game is that injury bug
- 13:23Speaker 1: does not discriminate. Everybody in this league has been hit
- 13:27Speaker 1: with it. Let's talk about some of these injuries. Adams growing,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Damian Lewis ankle, Jordan Brooks knee, Carson ankle. I'm a
- 13:39Speaker 1: loss of wars nast and that's give me something. That's
- 13:41Speaker 1: just a name a few wet to forget. Quentin Dunbar
- 13:43Speaker 1: didn't even play because his knee swelled up the night before.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Lano Hill back issue spassing up the day of the game.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So it's it's really tough, and that's that's another chestament. Yes,
- 13:53Speaker 1: this defense is given up a ton of yards. They
- 13:55Speaker 1: know they can't do that, they know they're giving up
- 13:56Speaker 1: too much things. But when you see some of those
- 13:59Speaker 1: names that are leaving the game, I mean, you lose
- 14:00Speaker 1: Bruce Irving, then his replacement, Jordan Brooks gets hurt in
- 14:03Speaker 1: the same game. I mean, it's just tough. Jamal Adams,
- 14:05Speaker 1: mister energy, the guy bringing in our secondary for him
- 14:07Speaker 1: to lose him too, So it's tough, man. And that's
- 14:10Speaker 1: just the one thing. I'm hoping to seahaus and get
- 14:12Speaker 1: through Miami this week and then Minnesota and get a
- 14:15Speaker 1: little bit of reprieve in that bye week. Man, But
- 14:17Speaker 1: these injuries are definitely stacking up. No disrespect to Miami,
- 14:21Speaker 1: but I guess it's kind of disrespect. I'm glad they're
- 14:23Speaker 1: playing them. I'm glad they're not they're not flying at
- 14:27Speaker 1: East Coast of pay, New England or somebody like that.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I mean, if there's a week to play Miami, I'm
- 14:31Speaker 1: grateful that is this week, and I think they can
- 14:33Speaker 1: still get it done. Now, the Seahawks are fifty seven
- 14:36Speaker 1: and oh when leading by four or more at halftime,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and they're nine in oh when allowing QB's a throw
- 14:42Speaker 1: for four hundred yards. I told you in the preview game,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I say, hey, this limp throw four hunted and the
- 14:47Speaker 1: Hawks are good to go. Man, Yeah, you said it,
- 14:50Speaker 1: all right. It just man, I'm a dv at hart man.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Seeing those numbers in the past game is just oh. Man.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I'm sure Pete Carroll and Ken Norton feel the exact
- 14:59Speaker 1: same way. But for whatever reason, man, I guess that
- 15:02Speaker 1: just means in those games we're getting up on teams,
- 15:05Speaker 1: they're having to fight back, and they're throwing the ball
- 15:07Speaker 1: over the yard. See. I'm not gonna go with you
- 15:11Speaker 1: on that. I'm not gonna go all the way there.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I just can't do it in my in my mind.
- 15:15Speaker 1: But the stats don't lie, like you said, Bump. They
- 15:17Speaker 1: are nine and o one to give a four hundred yards.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So I guess if we give up four hundred yards
- 15:21Speaker 1: the rest of the year, or gonna be sixteen and
- 15:22Speaker 1: ol gonna be all right. Something tells me Fitzpatrick ain't
- 15:24Speaker 1: gonna do that, though. Something tells me we'll be all right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And let's talk about the ballers. Who makes some plays
- 15:29Speaker 1: this week? Playmakers? First, playmaker, mister Russell Wilson twenty seven
- 15:44Speaker 1: to forty three, fifteen yards, five touchdowns, six carries for
- 15:48Speaker 1: twenty two yards. I mean, the our last three podcasts
- 15:53Speaker 1: can just be a praise Russell podcast because pretty much,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I mean, this guy's playing at a high level. He's
- 16:00Speaker 1: things I put out. I told you about the tweet
- 16:01Speaker 1: I put album. People are saying, I say Russ is
- 16:04Speaker 1: the best quarterback in the league. People are, oh, Mahomes,
- 16:06Speaker 1: Mahomes will guess what he just did something that Mahomes
- 16:09Speaker 1: hasn't done. Fourteen touchdowns in the first three games. Give
- 16:12Speaker 1: you boys from Love. Literally I said it earlier. I
- 16:14Speaker 1: don't have enough words to talk about how good this
- 16:16Speaker 1: man is. Okay, he's thrown for five touchdowns in consecutive games.
- 16:21Speaker 1: He's the first person to do that in the NFL
- 16:22Speaker 1: since Ben Roethlisberger in twenty fourteen. And look at this
- 16:25Speaker 1: stat So in all the NFL, looking at games where
- 16:28Speaker 1: the quarterback through for five touchdowns, zero interceptions and led
- 16:33Speaker 1: the team on the game winning drive in the fourth quarter,
- 16:35Speaker 1: Russell Wilson has done that three times. Tom Brady, Drew Brees,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Brett Farve, Joe Montana, and Peyton Manning have done that
- 16:46Speaker 1: twice combined. Those are some pretty good quarterbacks, right, sounds
- 16:51Speaker 1: are good. Yeah, they're not bad. I mean, come on now,
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's unbelievable. The dude is The dude is unconscious right now.
- 16:57Speaker 1: He's seventy nine for one on three, seventy six percent
- 17:00Speaker 1: completion rate, nine hundred twenty five passing yards, fourteen tous
- 17:03Speaker 1: one interception. It looks like a video game. This is
- 17:06Speaker 1: what it looks like when I'm whooping my son's butt
- 17:08Speaker 1: on Madden. You know, these are the video of the
- 17:10Speaker 1: game type numbers. Another playmaker, Tyler Lockett nine catches one
- 17:13Speaker 1: hundred yards three touchdowns, first time in his career he's
- 17:17Speaker 1: had a three touchdown game. That was weird to him.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I felt like he's had a couple already. Maybe he
- 17:21Speaker 1: just had a huge impacts one games. But Tyler Lockett
- 17:24Speaker 1: continues to impress, and he doesn't do it in a
- 17:27Speaker 1: way that DK does it to where it's flashy and
- 17:31Speaker 1: it's it's super explosive and people are talking about how
- 17:33Speaker 1: great he is. He his low key shows up to work,
- 17:36Speaker 1: you know, gets his lunch, pale hard hat. I'm gonna
- 17:38Speaker 1: go do my thing and continue to be the callist
- 17:41Speaker 1: of this team. Well, and I mentioned a minute ago
- 17:44Speaker 1: about how he's just a technician. You look at all
- 17:46Speaker 1: his touchdown routes. Okay, on this second TV he's lined
- 17:49Speaker 1: up kind of inside the slot and the dB number
- 17:52Speaker 1: twenty seven just cooks him on the route, completely cuts
- 17:54Speaker 1: his feet look like they're in cement. And then Tyler
- 17:57Speaker 1: Lockett is wide open. He's not even within five yards
- 18:00Speaker 1: of the guy. And then the third touchdown, he just
- 18:03Speaker 1: finds the way to get to that backpiline. It's funny
- 18:06Speaker 1: because I know every other defensive coordinate, everyone watches film
- 18:09Speaker 1: on our red zone offense, but it seems like every
- 18:11Speaker 1: single game you have tire either running a drag or
- 18:14Speaker 1: a corner route to that back piline for six and
- 18:17Speaker 1: it's literally every single game. I know people are looking
- 18:19Speaker 1: for that. We'll always find a way to get it done.
- 18:21Speaker 1: DK Balling four catches, one hundred and ten yards, one touchdown,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and he redeemed himself. He did the ultimate no no.
- 18:28Speaker 1: He did the DeShawn Jackson. He eased up, swagged it out,
- 18:33Speaker 1: didn't secure the football. A rookie dB comes in, punches
- 18:38Speaker 1: it out. That is a tough lesson learned. But I'm
- 18:42Speaker 1: gonna say this never happens again. Oh never, no question
- 18:45Speaker 1: about it. I'm sure the second it happened, he knows.
- 18:47Speaker 1: He doesn't need Pete to come tell him what the
- 18:50Speaker 1: issue was. He doesn't need Russ or Bobby or any
- 18:51Speaker 1: of those guys to let him know. He understands that
- 18:54Speaker 1: this football team preaches it's all about the football. It's
- 18:57Speaker 1: all about the ball, and you know you got to
- 18:59Speaker 1: protect it. I promise for the rest of the year,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're gonna see him running through the end zone handing
- 19:03Speaker 1: that ball to the official. But it's good to see
- 19:05Speaker 1: him bounce back, man. I bet you if he has
- 19:07Speaker 1: a chance, he's gonna hit us with the bow. Jackson
- 19:09Speaker 1: run through the tunnel, just to show everybody, like, look,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna over exaggerate this. Y'all can get off my
- 19:14Speaker 1: back because the national media is tearing him up right now.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But DKs was in. He'll be at He'll be good.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I mean, film session is probably gonna be a little
- 19:22Speaker 1: rough this morning, but other than that, he's gonna be straight.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Who else balled out? Who else made some plays? Shaquille Griffin,
- 19:29Speaker 1: Now Shaquille. He racked up eleven tackles. He had one
- 19:31Speaker 1: pass events got his first pick since twenty eighteen. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: think it'd have been about thirty games since he got one.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And yeah, the deep, it's hard to it's hard to
- 19:38Speaker 1: say that someone in the secondary balled out with all
- 19:41Speaker 1: the yards given up, but you gotta look at the context, man.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I mean, he was very active, he was very aggressive,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and I think that's good for him to get a
- 19:46Speaker 1: little confidence, get you a little interception. Gave up some plays,
- 19:49Speaker 1: but overall he's been pretty good this season. And that's
- 19:53Speaker 1: without Quintin Dunbar. You know, that's without playing with Jamal Adams.
- 19:57Speaker 1: That was without playing with Quandre Digs a week before.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So it's good to see him be active out there.
- 20:01Speaker 1: And I got to throw some up to his brother too.
- 20:03Speaker 1: His brother came off the practice squad was active again
- 20:06Speaker 1: and he was. He was active rushing the passer, had
- 20:09Speaker 1: a couple of tackles, a QB hits. So it's good
- 20:10Speaker 1: to see the Griffin twins balling out, yep. And I
- 20:13Speaker 1: want to encourage people like, look, yes, Griffin had eleven tackles.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Probably not the best thing, but the way they play
- 20:19Speaker 1: defense is a soft coverage like guys are gonna complete
- 20:21Speaker 1: passes against his defense is about limiting the big plays,
- 20:24Speaker 1: so that's what they have to fix. Guys are gonna
- 20:26Speaker 1: complete passes, but limit the huge place. There was a
- 20:29Speaker 1: drive where what was it, three plays ninety nine yards
- 20:31Speaker 1: something crazy like that. The old are the things that
- 20:34Speaker 1: really heard a defense. So oh yeah. I also want
- 20:36Speaker 1: to point out all Robinson. Man oh first time playing,
- 20:39Speaker 1: had a sack, two tackles for loss late in the game.
- 20:43Speaker 1: For the young man to step up during his first
- 20:45Speaker 1: performance was fun to see, you know. It's great to
- 20:47Speaker 1: see and everyone is stepping up man. Every week it's
- 20:49Speaker 1: been someone we didn't expect to step up. Ryan Nels
- 20:51Speaker 1: stepped up, Alton Robinson. The week before, it was Lane o'
- 20:54Speaker 1: hill and LJ. Collier. So it's good to see everyone
- 20:57Speaker 1: spreading the wealth and getting things done when they need to.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It takes a village. I receiver round up. We talked
- 21:02Speaker 1: about DK metcatch four for one ten, Tyler Lockett nine
- 21:06Speaker 1: for one hundred, Greg Olsen had five or sixty one.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He had a clutch for round reception. That's why he's
- 21:13Speaker 1: on this football team. He's not gonna have these crazy numbers.
- 21:16Speaker 1: He's not gonna blow by guys. He's not gonna physically
- 21:18Speaker 1: dominate guys. But when you need a play to be made,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you can count on Olsen. Oh absolutely, that fourth and
- 21:23Speaker 1: three is huge, obviously on the game winning drive. Could
- 21:25Speaker 1: just won the game without that play. He also had
- 21:27Speaker 1: another big catch down by the goal line where he
- 21:29Speaker 1: got pushed out of bounds, got his feet back in
- 21:32Speaker 1: and you can just tell that he's a vat the
- 21:33Speaker 1: way he got catches the ball with the hands out there,
- 21:35Speaker 1: get a little toe tap. So no, Greg is definitely clutch.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Got Freddy Swain another game with the catch, one catch
- 21:41Speaker 1: for thirteen, Chris Carson three catches for twelve, Carlos High
- 21:45Speaker 1: one for eleven, Will Disley two for five. I'm still
- 21:47Speaker 1: waiting for Disley to pop, you know. I think that
- 21:52Speaker 1: he's close. I think it's it's good that he's getting
- 21:55Speaker 1: ease backed into the situation. They're not saying, hey, you're
- 21:57Speaker 1: giving eighty percent of the snaps now. Once he gets going,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Like I said earlier, there's the next level to this offense.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Oh absolutely. That's the one of my notes I had
- 22:06Speaker 1: written down after rewatching the game is that Will Disley
- 22:08Speaker 1: needs to be a bigger factor. I mean, you look
- 22:10Speaker 1: at his first two years, he only played in ten games,
- 22:13Speaker 1: we had six touchdowns. We know what he can do
- 22:15Speaker 1: as a blocker. We know he's one of the best
- 22:17Speaker 1: blockers at the tight end position. But like you said,
- 22:19Speaker 1: once he becomes a real threat in the passing game.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't know how the heck guys are going to
- 22:25Speaker 1: cover our receivers between DK and Tyler. Then he's throwing
- 22:28Speaker 1: Demo and Greg Olsen. If if will Disley is a
- 22:30Speaker 1: factor in this offense, I honestly at the sky's limit
- 22:33Speaker 1: for sure. Demo had one for two yards. Hollister had
- 22:37Speaker 1: one catch, but it was for a touchdown. You'll take that.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Travis Homer had one target, no catches. All right, let's
- 22:43Speaker 1: sit over to the coach's corner and breakdown DK metcass
- 22:46Speaker 1: go ahead touchdown. Russell Lush has time going to throw
- 22:50Speaker 1: the end shod dec he make the catch touchdowns. I
- 22:58Speaker 1: couldn't see him for a second, and then suddenly he
- 23:01Speaker 1: flashes in the end zone and it's DK Metcalf and
- 23:04Speaker 1: he in fact makes up for the play earlier. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: it's only fitting, isn't that heats the guy who comes
- 23:11Speaker 1: up with a big reception the touchdown with one forty
- 23:14Speaker 1: seven left to play. That was a slow developing play.
- 23:20Speaker 1: A lot of things had to happen. You got DK
- 23:22Speaker 1: up top, Tyler in the slot. Tyler runs like a
- 23:25Speaker 1: wheel concept. DK runs a deep cross, gets on top
- 23:29Speaker 1: of the safety, and Russell does what he does. He
- 23:32Speaker 1: is so great at dropping that ball in the basket.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I bet you you know that drill that quarterbacks do
- 23:37Speaker 1: when they put the trash can in the corner of
- 23:39Speaker 1: the end zone. Something tells me he might be one
- 23:41Speaker 1: of the best in the league at that drill, just
- 23:43Speaker 1: by the way he's able to drop those dimes in there.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And for DK, I don't think he lost any confidence
- 23:49Speaker 1: after fumbling that football. But this is nice just to
- 23:52Speaker 1: kind of shake things off, you know, like, Okay, I
- 23:54Speaker 1: made a mistake, but now I came back and I
- 23:56Speaker 1: made a play when my team needed it. We're watching
- 24:00Speaker 1: a star in the making a number four tea. Oh
- 24:02Speaker 1: you gotta love it too, man. And like you said,
- 24:04Speaker 1: you pointed out the deep cross. This is an incredibly
- 24:06Speaker 1: long developing play and one quick little shout out to
- 24:08Speaker 1: the offensive line because Russell Wilson has an incredibly clean
- 24:11Speaker 1: pocket he has all the time in the world, because
- 24:13Speaker 1: a deep cross like that you need you needed five seconds.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You gotta get down the field. So like it was
- 24:18Speaker 1: good to see that. And then Russell, like you said,
- 24:20Speaker 1: drop it in a bucket. I don't know if you
- 24:22Speaker 1: remember at the Pro Bowl last year they have that
- 24:24Speaker 1: new throwing competition and Russ was balling out, especially in
- 24:27Speaker 1: all the deep balls because we know he's the best
- 24:29Speaker 1: deep ball thrower in the game. And then going back
- 24:31Speaker 1: to DK, I mean, like you said, I don't think
- 24:33Speaker 1: he lost confidence either, but to still come and do
- 24:35Speaker 1: it when the game's on the line, right, you're not
- 24:37Speaker 1: thinking about anything, like go up and get that football
- 24:39Speaker 1: and just run right past the safety. I mean, if
- 24:41Speaker 1: you look at the safety is in good position, he's
- 24:43Speaker 1: a deep he's a deep safety, and he sees it
- 24:45Speaker 1: Happer in front of him, and DK just has those
- 24:47Speaker 1: long strides. It just runs right by him, and then
- 24:50Speaker 1: Russell drops it in the bucket. So great to see.
- 24:52Speaker 1: For sure, you can't teach speed and you can't teach size,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and DK has both of them. And also confidence. Man,
- 24:59Speaker 1: that guy is super comment right now playing at a
- 25:01Speaker 1: high level. Hey, Nason Scholby that's the greatest formation in football.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Ah it's the victory formation. Here comes the Seahawk offense
- 25:12Speaker 1: onto the field and the Vikings defense crunching out there
- 25:16Speaker 1: knowing that one kneel down and the Seahawks are gonna
- 25:20Speaker 1: wind the clock down and win this one. It's the
- 25:23Speaker 1: victory formation. On Hawk Talk, you can complain about this.
- 25:28Speaker 1: You can complain about that. You can say the defense
- 25:30Speaker 1: needs to do this, they should run the ball, you
- 25:31Speaker 1: can say all these things. But at the end of
- 25:33Speaker 1: the day, these guys walked off a century length field
- 25:36Speaker 1: with the w These guys are three in all, and
- 25:39Speaker 1: how lucky are we to watch a guy like Russell
- 25:43Speaker 1: Wilson performed. Not too many franchises get to see this.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I don't know when's the last time the Dolphins had
- 25:48Speaker 1: a really good quarterback. I don't know when last time
- 25:50Speaker 1: the Bengals had a really good quarterback. Cleveland Browns they're
- 25:52Speaker 1: two to one, but they're still struggling. I mean, can't
- 25:55Speaker 1: take this stuff for granted. No, and it's it's one
- 25:57Speaker 1: of those things that we've had Russell since twelve and honestly,
- 26:01Speaker 1: I think I do. I think this is the first year.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I mean I've alwaously been team ross the entire way
- 26:06Speaker 1: in respect of what he does, but I think this
- 26:07Speaker 1: is the first year I've like taken a step back
- 26:09Speaker 1: and being like, we are unbelievably blessed and to see
- 26:12Speaker 1: what's going on, because what he's doing is truly special.
- 26:15Speaker 1: And I'm a Mariners fan. I used to be a
- 26:20Speaker 1: former Mariners employee, so I still live and die with
- 26:24Speaker 1: that team. But when you see greatness and just getting
- 26:29Speaker 1: to the playoffs every year and things like that because
- 26:31Speaker 1: of Number three, you gotta step back and appreciate it.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Because there's a lot of suffering fan bases like you
- 26:36Speaker 1: mentioned Detroit. I mean, there's tons of fans bases that
- 26:39Speaker 1: are like man, I would do anything to have someone
- 26:42Speaker 1: even fifty percent as good as Russell Wilson's are starting quarterback.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So Seahawk fans out there, take a minute today, take
- 26:49Speaker 1: a step back and appreciate the greatness we are getting
- 26:51Speaker 1: from Russell Wilson. There's a statue in front of team Mobile,
- 26:55Speaker 1: mister King Griffin. There's gonna be one in front of
- 26:58Speaker 1: center like mister number three sall setting done, yep, And
- 27:01Speaker 1: he's gonna have one in Canton Ohio as well. There
- 27:03Speaker 1: we go. Shaquille Griffin got his first pick since twenty eighteen.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It was nice to see him get his hands on
- 27:10Speaker 1: the full ball that's been his knock right. Everyone's say, oh,
- 27:13Speaker 1: but he doesn't call his turnovers this and that. Well,
- 27:15Speaker 1: he got his pick. He might have given up some yards,
- 27:18Speaker 1: but whenever you can win the turnover battle, you're probably
- 27:21Speaker 1: gonna win football games. He contributed. Oh absolutely, Like you said,
- 27:24Speaker 1: it's great to see him get get it going, kind
- 27:26Speaker 1: of like a basketball player. I've talked about seeing one
- 27:28Speaker 1: go through. So just getting that confidence and I think
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's gonna help him next week, especially to go down
- 27:32Speaker 1: to Miami. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been known to throw the
- 27:36Speaker 1: ball the other team a little bit, so I'm hoping
- 27:38Speaker 1: that trend continues and Shaquille gets another pick next week.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I hope Shaquille gets another pick, and I hope d
- 27:43Speaker 1: K continues to do what he does. Man. I mean
- 27:46Speaker 1: it's I mean, he did have that fumble like we mentioned,
- 27:49Speaker 1: but he bounced back and he's a big play type
- 27:51Speaker 1: of dude. The Hawks need that to continue to keep
- 27:55Speaker 1: the success going. Oh absolutely, I think DK is going
- 27:59Speaker 1: to be a Pro Bowl player. I think just looking
- 28:02Speaker 1: at the numbers when it's all setting and done this year,
- 28:04Speaker 1: it's gonna reflect that. But I think he's going to
- 28:07Speaker 1: continue making big plays every week and he is taking
- 28:10Speaker 1: steps to being a perennial Pro Bowl All Pro type guy.
- 28:15Speaker 1: We know he has the physical tools. We know he
- 28:17Speaker 1: can run the routes now, so he just gotta finish right.
- 28:19Speaker 1: He's got to keep it up and be consistent. Another
- 28:22Speaker 1: way they got this done was their depth. I mean
- 28:25Speaker 1: we saw him Ryan Neil, Jakeem Griffin, Alton Robinson, Jordan Simmons.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I mean, these are guys that we didn't expect to
- 28:32Speaker 1: see on Sunday, and they got in the game and
- 28:36Speaker 1: they still performed well enough for this team to get
- 28:39Speaker 1: a win. If you want to make runs to the
- 28:41Speaker 1: Super Bowl, you gotta have depth, you gotta be coached up.
- 28:45Speaker 1: That's what we saw on Sunday. And it's great too,
- 28:47Speaker 1: because if we're going to be forced to be in
- 28:48Speaker 1: this position, it's great that it's early in the season, right,
- 28:51Speaker 1: so guys are getting real live game reps to feel
- 28:54Speaker 1: like they're in the game. They're seeing stuff that they
- 28:56Speaker 1: may have never seen for the first time. So it's
- 28:57Speaker 1: just building that experience. So if you're called upon on
- 29:00Speaker 1: in you know, December or in the playoffs, you're ready
- 29:02Speaker 1: to go because you've been the wars, you've been in
- 29:04Speaker 1: the battles, and you kind of understand what's all about.
- 29:06Speaker 1: So it's great to see. It's nice to get those reps.
- 29:09Speaker 1: The Hawks are three and oh for the first time
- 29:12Speaker 1: since twenty thirteen. How that season end? Now? Oh man,
- 29:17Speaker 1: we went to New York and we did some things.
- 29:19Speaker 1: We beat a team kind of a lot to a
- 29:21Speaker 1: little about this little trophy thing. Yeah, yeah, a little trophy,
- 29:24Speaker 1: little trophy. Well, we're not focusing on the trophy yet,
- 29:27Speaker 1: but it's sure. It's nice to be three and oh.
- 29:29Speaker 1: The Hawks are flying down to Miami, probably the furthest
- 29:32Speaker 1: flight that they could possibly take, but we see how
- 29:36Speaker 1: they handle themselves on a role last year seven to one.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I would expect him to go down to Miami and
- 29:41Speaker 1: get it done. It's been real on Michael bump Is,
- 29:44Speaker 1: he has Naston chopy. This is Hawk Talk recap. Addition,
- 29:47Speaker 1: we will talk to you guys soon. Have a goal
