- 0:11Today at Route 22 servicecenter.com Howie Carr
- 0:15Hope you had a good weekend. How are you?
- 0:18Good, good. It's like I'm on Groundhog Day
- 0:20here, though. We can.
- 0:20We'd come back every Tuesday and talk about the same stuff.
- 0:24Oh, there's going to be a ceasefire.
- 0:25Oh, there. Oh, wait, no, the ceasefire was
- 0:28broken. No, they're negotiating.
- 0:30Oh, there's a hang up over the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear
- 0:34dust and and ballistic missiles. It's the same thing every week.
- 0:38It really is like Groundhog Day. Yeah.
- 0:40Yeah, it really is. I mean, I actually sort of
- 0:43allowed myself to dare to hope a little bit because it sounded
- 0:46like this actually had a little bit of legs early on.
- 0:48But I just, you know, in the last 24 hours, you know, now
- 0:51they're, they're striking Iranian targets again.
- 0:54And, and I'm not really hearing much movement on some of the
- 0:57things that are the real sticking points there.
- 0:59So it does indeed feel like it's much the same as it has been for
- 1:03the last month, two months really, ever since the ceasefire
- 1:06started. I think now that you know, that
- 1:09the the Iranians aren't so much concerned about the midterms as
- 1:13they figure that he's got to have a deal by the 4th of July.
- 1:16I think that's the, I think that's what they, I think that's
- 1:18the plan. They've got short term, you know
- 1:21and I and you know what, I think they may be on to something
- 1:24there. Yeah, it's possible.
- 1:25He's going to want something. So does what does that mean for
- 1:29us then? I mean, does that mean that
- 1:30whatever deal comes out sucks and.
- 1:33It, I mean, it does kind of seem that way.
- 1:35I mean, it's, you know, I know they want to put the, the worst
- 1:38spin possible on it, you know, mainstream media, but, you know,
- 1:43I mean, is this, is this really what we want?
- 1:45It looks like too, that the, the, the, the Gulf states like
- 1:48Saudi Arabia that, that were pushing us to get into it.
- 1:51Now they're worried. I, I just read today that
- 1:53they're worried about the, you know, the desalting plants.
- 1:57Apparently they, those are the that's very big in the Persian
- 2:00Gulf. And they think that, you know,
- 2:02there are any circumstances, despite whatever happens with
- 2:05Iran, they could still hit those things and that would really
- 2:09screw them up, you know, like they might have to, you know,
- 2:12evacuate Riyadh, you know, because there's, there's just
- 2:15not enough water. And that's what they count on.
- 2:18And you know, they weren't I, I, I don't know if they were not
- 2:21figuring on that or what, but I mean, it, it just seems like
- 2:23we're just going to have to, to just destroy them.
- 2:26I mean, that's the only way out for for for anybody, I think,
- 2:30isn't it at this point. Yep, I think so.
- 2:33You know, it's, you mentioned, you know, I'm not thinking
- 2:36through things. It seems like.
- 2:37And again, we're not in the room.
- 2:38So I, I can't say what they did or didn't consider or what they
- 2:41debated or what the strategy stuff is, but like, it seems
- 2:44like there's a lot of things they didn't consider in this
- 2:46thing. I mean, the Strait of Hormuz
- 2:47alone, I can't imagine that the military brass weren't sitting
- 2:52there saying, you know, this could be a potential problem for
- 2:54us. But it's been the thing that's
- 2:56tormented the American side of this for quite some time here.
- 3:00And as we've been in this ceasefire for a while, right?
- 3:03Like, it just seems like there's been no ability to gain any
- 3:06leverage over the Iranians 'cause they just have a
- 3:08stranglehold on it. We have our little embargo, you
- 3:10know, obviously, which is definitely having an effect.
- 3:12But you know, it just doesn't strike me as gaining enough
- 3:15leverage to force them to the table because that's really what
- 3:17they need, right? Like it's like you better get to
- 3:19the table or else. And there's none of that
- 3:21happening with a ceasefire while they control the Strait.
- 3:24Right. And they and they think that,
- 3:26you know, that he's that Trump is going to stop Netanyahu from
- 3:29taking them all out again. And I think, I think the
- 3:32Israelis are just chomping at the bed to just like, you know,
- 3:35whack out the next generation of these jerks that is holding
- 3:39things up. You know, I, I, I don't know
- 3:41what the, I don't know what the other, what the solution is,
- 3:44though, because I mean, you can't do business with these
- 3:48with, with people who, who were insane, You know, I mean, he, he
- 3:53doesn't seem to call them lunatics anymore.
- 3:55I mean, but that's what they are.
- 3:57And they they, they indicated more all the time.
- 4:00Well, I hate to say it, but isn't really the the answer
- 4:02right now is just like, stop or move on or go in and do
- 4:07something about it. I mean, like, you know, the
- 4:08ceasefire ends and you go actually start blowing stuff up
- 4:11again. It's one or the other.
- 4:13Wherever we're at right now, it just seems like an intolerable,
- 4:17you know, sort of malaise, some sort of a waiting game where
- 4:20nothing's changing, you know? This must be, you know, I wasn't
- 4:22alive. No one, none of us were alive.
- 4:24But this, this must be what it was like, you know, in 19, early
- 4:271940, you know, in, in, in France, you know, I mean, Poland
- 4:31was gone. But, you know, you're just
- 4:34waiting for, for what the Germans are going to do next.
- 4:38I don't know. I don't know what the I don't
- 4:40know what the solution is, but it's going to make kind of a
- 4:43grim 250th birthday if it doesn't get resolved.
- 4:46Yeah, seriously, Howie Carr joins us as he does every
- 4:49Tuesday, and we always appreciate it.
- 4:51To turn our attention more domestically here.
- 4:53Howie, we have an election in Texas today.
- 4:56I haven't really covered it too much on the program this
- 4:58morning, but it looks like since the Trump endorsement, Ken
- 5:02Paxton's chances of winning that race obviously have gone up
- 5:05rather significantly. I've seen some polling that
- 5:06shows that he's going to kind of walk with.
- 5:08It anyway, yeah. Well, true, yeah, but it's
- 5:10definitely it looks now like it's basically guaranteed.
- 5:13I hate to even ask you for a prediction since it seems like
- 5:16it's guaranteed, but I guess maybe my prediction would be
- 5:18like, how much does he win by right?
- 5:19I mean, it's just a formal. Conclusion.
- 5:21It's just like they're all the they're taking, except for
- 5:23Thune, they're taking out all the all the rhino Republicans,
- 5:26right? Cassidy's gone, Tom, fellas,
- 5:30tell us who, By the way, I've never seen him and anybody in
- 5:33North Carolina, all the years I lived there after college, I
- 5:36never saw anyone wearing a BOLO. But he's wearing a BOLO.
- 5:41He's he's gone. McConnell's gone.
- 5:43Cornyn's gone. And on the Democrat side,
- 5:45Durbin, Durbin's gone. And you know, Schumer, that
- 5:48Schumer may not know it yet. I think he suspects it, but he's
- 5:51gone in 28. So like all the all the old
- 5:54guard types in the Senate are departing, aren't they?
- 5:58They are. But here's the question, Howie
- 6:00Carr, is the new guard any better than the old Guard?
- 6:03That's always my question with this kind of stuff because I,
- 6:06you know, I've seen over the years, I remember back in the
- 6:08Tea Party wave, right? He had this army of people that
- 6:10were saying, you know, like dump the establishment.
- 6:13These people are horrible and they weren't wrong, but then
- 6:16they get elected and they kind of behave exactly the same way
- 6:18and they become sort of like the new establishment and it's like
- 6:21meet the new boss, same as the old boss kind of thing.
- 6:23And I'm very disappointed in what I've seen.
- 6:26The debts just continue to spiral out of control, etcetera.
- 6:29So you know, you're dumping people like corn and sure, but
- 6:31is it, is it going to be better? Is it going to be better?
- 6:34That's my question. How cynical are you, Howie Carr?
- 6:38I don't know. I, I don't know.
- 6:39I think Paxton will be an improvement, assuming he gets
- 6:42in, but I can't. I just can't see him losing to
- 6:44Talarico. I, I just, I, I think these
- 6:47Democrats, these are crazy. Democrats Talarico is insane.
- 6:50I mean of all the people they could have put up in Texas,
- 6:53that's the guy they did. They chose to put forward the
- 6:56The ads will write themselves for him.
- 6:59Yeah. Yeah, all they have to do is
- 7:00start showing some of his, his, you know, from the pulpit
- 7:03preachings and stuff. I mean, I've, they've already
- 7:04started doing that. It's wild stuff, man.
- 7:07It's wild stuff. Yeah, the thing about the
- 7:10Internet is there's, I mean, it seems like it's unlimited.
- 7:13It's not like you got, like, this one smoking gun.
- 7:16Yeah, like you used to have her two smoking guns.
- 7:20I thought they were going to run out of stuff on Platinum but
- 7:22they never do, do they? Oh no, it's the gift that keeps
- 7:25on giving. But he but nobody seems to care,
- 7:27or at least not yet. It's not really having.
- 7:29I mean, he's on the Time cover of Time magazine, which I don't,
- 7:31you know, think I don't care about that either.
- 7:33But it does, you know, you look at the polling here and he's
- 7:36obviously, you know, already won the the Democratic primary.
- 7:39But there was just one that came out last week that had him up on
- 7:42Collins by 7 points, which I don't necessarily believe
- 7:45because the polls have been wrong here pretty frequently.
- 7:47But you know, you always you also can't discount it.
- 7:49And it shows that he's at least strong enough that he's in the
- 7:52he's in the conversation for maybe winning and.
- 7:55How about the Janet Mills now as being he defeated an old line
- 7:59Democrat like Janet Miller. She's old, but I don't know if
- 8:04she's old line. I mean, come on.
- 8:07I mean, get you know, I think it was David Runyon used to say
- 8:10getting dead does a lot for your social standing.
- 8:12And I mean, I think that's that's true for her politically.
- 8:15You know, she's been kind of rehabilitated here now that
- 8:17she's gone. But God, I I don't think anybody
- 8:21in name's going to ever forget how bad a governor she was.
- 8:23No, no. It's amazing to see the last two
- 8:25years how bad she suffered. I mean, she was actually in a
- 8:28pretty decent position a couple years ago when all the federal
- 8:32money was still sloshing around. And, you know, everything kind
- 8:35of appeared OK. But in man, the last two years,
- 8:37everything is just falling off a Cliff.
- 8:39And you look at that's the very same poll, right?
- 8:41Her popularity is upside down big time.
- 8:43You know, the right track, wrong track.
- 8:44Stuff keeps getting worse. Nobody likes her, which is why
- 8:47she lost that primary, right? I mean, Graham Plattner is
- 8:50obviously, you know, not a perfect candidate, that's for
- 8:54sure. But she was down by 30 points or
- 8:56more to this guy, and it's because she's terrible.
- 9:00That's the real reason. There is some justice in the
- 9:02world as far as COVID goes. You know, maybe, maybe, but not
- 9:07everybody has paid the price. Price for instance.
- 9:12Yeah. But to my earlier point though,
- 9:13Howie, would you not have imagined that Graham Plattner,
- 9:16were he governor at the time, would not have been even more
- 9:18enthusiastic about all the COVID masking and nonsense that you
- 9:22saw back then? I bet you he would have been
- 9:23worse than her. So yeah, we got rid of her.
- 9:25But yeah. Yeah, he would have been worse.
- 9:29He would have been worried. He has.
- 9:30He has the courage of his ignorance and the arrogance of
- 9:34his ignorance. Ali Carr joining us as he does
- 9:39every single week, talking about what's going on nationally.
- 9:43Did you see AOC is taking some steps to run for president?
- 9:45By the way, the president. That's good news for Matt.
- 9:47It's going to be the one that's going to get to take out
- 9:50Schumer. Senator Mamdani.
- 9:57But that's, I mean, you don't think Mamdani is going to want
- 9:59to stick around? There.
- 10:00Oh God no. This is, you know, being a
- 10:03senator is, is not that different from being a rap
- 10:05rapper, is it not? You know you.
- 10:07Don't even have to be successful, just just hit.
- 10:10Just hit your base, you know, Sell enough, you know, whatever.
- 10:15The Oh, I think that, yeah, no, the grift is much better as a
- 10:18senator. The grift is much better because
- 10:19you don't have any response. Like at least as a mayor, you
- 10:21know, when your, when your city goes bankrupt, you know, it's
- 10:24like it kind of traces back to you and there's some
- 10:26consequences for your dumb decisions.
- 10:29But when you're a senator, you can just sit there and write
- 10:31books and give speeches and make money.
- 10:34For president and then launder the money through your wife like
- 10:36Bernie Sanders test. Yes, that too.
- 10:39Yeah, you can do that too. Isn't that fun?
- 10:42Bernie Sanders has written the book How to Become a Multi
- 10:46Millionaire as a US Senator while doing absolutely nothing.
- 10:52By the way, do you have the? Do you have the sound of Platner
- 10:55screwing up his name twice? I don't actually have it clipped
- 10:59up, but yeah, no, I did see it and hear it and I got it saved.
- 11:02I'm going to. Get that this afternoon for
- 11:04laughs. I like I like playing stuff like
- 11:06that. It really juices up the chump
- 11:08line. Yeah, well, that was a fun
- 11:10rally. You know, there's a lot, lots of
- 11:12interesting things that. Came.
- 11:13Is that the one in Nora now? Yes, that was the one.
- 11:15In Nora. It's funny that he went to the
- 11:16college town, isn't it? Rather than like a milltown.
- 11:20Well, it's a working class party, you understand.
- 11:25Howie Carr, always a pleasure. Hope you had a good Memorial Day
