- 0:00Speaker 1: Set out to the ramos Law Hotline Car Accident you
- 0:02Speaker 1: need ramos Law Medical Doctor and Attorney ramos Law dot
- 0:04Speaker 1: com or joined as we are every Thursday at nine
- 0:07Speaker 1: o'clock by Jeff leg Wald.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hello Leggy, good morning fellows.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We just found out by the way, so we played
- 0:14Speaker 1: a call Jeff of it was the Australian broadcast of
- 0:19Speaker 1: the Super Bowl and they were very excited about a punt.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'll just give you a second of it.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Your old Australian punt, Michael Dixon routinely into the action.
- 0:28Speaker 2: He's gonna kick the drup punt to the corner. It
- 0:31Speaker 2: hangs in the field outstanding. What they love.
- 0:38Speaker 1: They love the punt from Michael Dixon. And what we
- 0:41Speaker 1: just found out is one of these guys was listening
- 0:43Speaker 1: live to the show and heard that, which is bizarre.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So shout out to our friends from Australia. What do
- 0:48Speaker 1: you think of the Broncos punt game there, Leggy? How
- 0:51Speaker 1: about Crosshaw?
- 0:53Speaker 4: The Australians have franchised the punk game over.
- 0:59Speaker 2: A punt academy.
- 1:00Speaker 4: I mean half the punters in college football are Australians,
- 1:05Speaker 4: so they have found their way into the NFL.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It's very interesting too, because they I mean not only
- 1:12Speaker 3: have they found their way, they aspired to do this.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I mean a lot of them play that Australian rules football.
- 1:17Speaker 2: They do other things.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But Jeremy crosshow gave me the entire background on how
- 1:21Speaker 3: he got involved. You know, he didn't know what he
- 1:23Speaker 3: was going to do, and then he started going to
- 1:25Speaker 3: this school and developed a knack for punting, and here
- 1:27Speaker 3: he's in the NFL making a good living.
- 1:30Speaker 4: No, there's uh, you know, just for the draft every year,
- 1:34Speaker 4: I go up and down the college rosters and there's
- 1:37Speaker 4: just one Australian punter after another, a variety of ages.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It's it's pretty amazing.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And you know, A because I want to go to Australia,
- 1:48Speaker 4: and B I think it would be a cool story.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I've I've pitched the punting Academy story many times, but
- 1:54Speaker 4: I have not yet succeeded. So I hope to still
- 1:58Speaker 4: make that call.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's a smart pitch. Next, I want to go to Amsterdam.
- 2:04Speaker 1: There's actually a cottage industry of centers up there.
- 2:06Speaker 2: We need to go see. I try.
- 2:09Speaker 4: It doesn't mean I always succeed, but I try for
- 2:13Speaker 4: the offseason.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Leg you what do you think is the number one
- 2:15Speaker 1: priority for the Broncos right now.
- 2:18Speaker 4: I think if you watched their season end, you would
- 2:21Speaker 4: have to say, you know, they have to You can't
- 2:25Speaker 4: just be a throw it around offense in right now
- 2:29Speaker 4: in the league, but you got to have some kind
- 2:32Speaker 4: of explosive capability. And it's two years in a row
- 2:37Speaker 4: now they have finished twenty ninth or worse in three
- 2:41Speaker 4: and outs, and that's an awful lot of possessions you're
- 2:45Speaker 4: leaving on the table because you can't get a first down.
- 2:49Speaker 4: And when you're twenty ninth one year and thirtieth in
- 2:53Speaker 4: another year back to back.
- 2:56Speaker 2: That's not a new problem.
- 2:58Speaker 4: So whatever they need to do to repair that, I
- 3:02Speaker 4: think you've got to be middle of the road at least.
- 3:05Speaker 4: I think if you're gonna be successful and in there somewhere,
- 3:11Speaker 4: they've just got to find more explosive plays. You know
- 3:14Speaker 4: they're they're not ranked very highly in plays of twenty
- 3:18Speaker 4: yards or more.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Now you know you're not gonna have those all the time.
- 3:21Speaker 4: But you cannot go the long way down after down,
- 3:26Speaker 4: drive after drive and succeed.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And to drill even deeper. I don't have the numbers.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I don't know what their first down percentage is I
- 3:34Speaker 3: don't know where, but I know in the playoffs, first
- 3:37Speaker 3: downs were a problem. I mean, you got to get
- 3:39Speaker 3: somewhere in first down to set up a second hand
- 3:41Speaker 3: and allow you get a good play on third down.
- 3:43Speaker 3: If you can't get anywhere in first down. I'll give
- 3:45Speaker 3: you a case in point, Jeffrey, when the New England
- 3:48Speaker 3: Plutter shanked that punt and they had it first down
- 3:50Speaker 3: at the third three yard line. They lose three yards
- 3:53Speaker 3: in the very first play, and you can't do that.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Why they did?
- 3:57Speaker 4: They did that often this year and I think you
- 4:00Speaker 4: know their perimeter game in the run game and the
- 4:04Speaker 4: pass game, all the bubble screens and the flash routes,
- 4:08Speaker 4: and they just weren't very good at those.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And if you're going to use.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Those like early down run plays like the Broncos do,
- 4:17Speaker 4: like you're saying, you've got to do better. And if
- 4:19Speaker 4: you're a bad three and out team, you're usually not
- 4:22Speaker 4: very good on first down because you're leaving second and
- 4:25Speaker 4: long third in middling and that's just not way to go.
- 4:29Speaker 4: And you know, and it's I've told people I've talked
- 4:32Speaker 4: to in the league just about on draft calls in
- 4:35Speaker 4: the recent weeks here, but when I've just been chatting
- 4:38Speaker 4: with people, but they essentially wasted one of the best
- 4:43Speaker 4: defenses I've seen the Broncos have in my time covering
- 4:47Speaker 4: the team. That defense was every bit as good as
- 4:51Speaker 4: the Seahawks defense that's being celebrated yep for winning the
- 4:55Speaker 4: Super Bowl because they kicked five field goals in a
- 4:59Speaker 4: game meant a lot. So it appears defense and field
- 5:04Speaker 4: goals can still win your games, and the Broncos had.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I think they will be as good or have a
- 5:11Speaker 4: chance to be as good on defense next year. But
- 5:15Speaker 4: they did let one of the best defensive performances this
- 5:18Speaker 4: team's ever had result in not winning the whole thing.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Jeff leagwalld with us. All conversations with LEGI you're brought
- 5:26Speaker 1: to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW
- 5:29Speaker 1: Local sixty eight. Start with the job, end with a career.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So on that subject you're talking about, you need bigger
- 5:35Speaker 1: plays on offense, you need explosive plays. I have a
- 5:39Speaker 1: lot of respect for Crlton Sutton. I think he's very good.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Is he good enough to be your number one wide out?
- 5:43Speaker 1: Or would you look to improve?
- 5:46Speaker 4: I think his life would look a lot different if
- 5:48Speaker 4: you had another receiver across from him that they're good players.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I think if Mims is over there, sixty of the snap,
- 5:58Speaker 4: seventy the snaw a, I think things look different. But
- 6:02Speaker 4: as long as defenses don't fear rotating everything Courtland's way,
- 6:09Speaker 4: it's gonna be a lot harder for Courtland's something to function.
- 6:12Speaker 4: And that's why every ball, practically every play he makes
- 6:17Speaker 4: is a contested catch because they've rotated people to contest
- 6:22Speaker 4: with him over there, and they don't feel I talked
- 6:26Speaker 4: to defensive coaches all the time who say, we're not
- 6:29Speaker 4: really worried about the other people. Doesn't mean they don't
- 6:33Speaker 4: think the other people are good players. It just means
- 6:36Speaker 4: they don't think the ball's going that way.
- 6:38Speaker 3: To explain why he was so quiet in the playoffs, yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 3: you look at the numbers. Now, the Russell Wilson money
- 6:48Speaker 3: is off the books. How much money do we have
- 6:50Speaker 3: to work with now? Way, have you seen what the
- 6:51Speaker 3: Broncos books look like?
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they're a pretty good shape now.
- 6:55Speaker 4: They've resigned a lot of people to big contracts, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 4: the homegrown, which I think is how you get good,
- 7:02Speaker 4: you know, that's how you get and stay good in
- 7:05Speaker 4: the NFL. IS draft well and resign the guys you
- 7:08Speaker 4: like the best, but they they can participate in free agency.
- 7:13Speaker 4: It's not a great free agency class overall. So I
- 7:18Speaker 4: think they've already hinted from Greg Penner and George Peyton
- 7:22Speaker 4: both that they're not going to essentially overpay people just
- 7:26Speaker 4: to participate in free agency. I think they're going to
- 7:29Speaker 4: try very hard to pick out the right people. And
- 7:34Speaker 4: it is a good draft at wide receiver. Again, it
- 7:38Speaker 4: is a defensive heavy draft, but there are a lot
- 7:41Speaker 4: of good players at wide receiver all through each all
- 7:46Speaker 4: three days. And I think this is the most tight
- 7:50Speaker 4: ends that have been invited to the combine in like
- 7:52Speaker 4: six years. So there is a lot of first round
- 7:57Speaker 4: talent at the position, but there are a lot of
- 8:00Speaker 4: good players in rounds two through seven. And again I
- 8:04Speaker 4: think there were twenty seven tight ends invited to the
- 8:08Speaker 4: combine and that's that's a big number, all right.
- 8:10Speaker 3: So speaking of tight end, I want to get your
- 8:11Speaker 3: impression on this. I mean, for a lot of people,
- 8:14Speaker 3: Evan Ingram and the expectations for Evan Ingram he did
- 8:17Speaker 3: not meet, although he caught what fifty passes. He got
- 8:20Speaker 3: more passes than a Broncos tight end has quiets. All right, Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 3: so why why didn't it work out the way people
- 8:28Speaker 3: had hoped?
- 8:28Speaker 2: What was it well?
- 8:31Speaker 4: And I don't think they made it a part of
- 8:34Speaker 4: the game plan very often, you know, I think there
- 8:38Speaker 4: I would put tight end in sort of the Mims
- 8:41Speaker 4: category of you know, why not try more of those
- 8:47Speaker 4: things as the season went on, and I think beyond
- 8:53Speaker 4: who's call and plays, I think that's one of the
- 8:55Speaker 4: big questions I have to go into the offseason with.
- 8:57Speaker 4: When Sean Payton is looking at an offense that's been
- 9:01Speaker 4: very successful for him for a long time, you cannot
- 9:06Speaker 4: I mean, Drew Brees is going in the Hall of
- 9:08Speaker 4: Fame because Sean Payton or a big reason is Sean
- 9:13Speaker 4: Payton was calling place. So we can't say the guy
- 9:17Speaker 4: can't call plays. But I will say people in the
- 9:21Speaker 4: league are telling me they have a pretty good idea
- 9:25Speaker 4: of what the menu of plays are by who's in
- 9:28Speaker 4: the formation, and that is something they got to look at.
- 9:32Speaker 4: And I think, you know a little more of the
- 9:35Speaker 4: two tight end. That was always Mike Shanahan's card to
- 9:40Speaker 4: play if he thought you were hiding rushers in the
- 9:44Speaker 4: pass rush or trying to create different varieties of pressure.
- 9:49Speaker 4: His big card to play and that's why he had
- 9:51Speaker 4: a winning record against Belichick, was to balance out the
- 9:55Speaker 4: formation with two tight.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Ends and attack you that way.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And I think this Bronco team could have done that,
- 10:05Speaker 4: could have done that if they if they chose two
- 10:07Speaker 4: more And you know, I would have taken a longer
- 10:10Speaker 4: look at Caleb Loner as a red zone threat. Yes,
- 10:14Speaker 4: he could not run every route in the playbook, but
- 10:18Speaker 4: it's huge down the stretch. I would have just and
- 10:22Speaker 4: again you know, I'm Timmy the sports writer. I get it,
- 10:25Speaker 4: But down the stretch, I would have said, here's three
- 10:29Speaker 4: plays in the red zone.
- 10:31Speaker 2: You run those spectacularly. Let's do that.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Because defensive people already felt like the Broncos were tipping plays,
- 10:40Speaker 4: So why not why not shuffle the deck a little bit?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Jeff, last thing for you, we were talking about
- 10:45Speaker 1: this earlier that see you had no invites out of
- 10:51Speaker 1: the three hundred nineteen guys at the combine. First of all,
- 10:53Speaker 1: what does that speak to as far as their talent level?
- 10:56Speaker 1: And do you see anyway I know that you're focus
- 10:58Speaker 1: more on like evaluating the college talent, talent going to
- 11:01Speaker 1: the pros. But how do you think Dion can fix
- 11:04Speaker 1: that problem?
- 11:06Speaker 4: Well, I mean in this current state of affairs, I mean,
- 11:09Speaker 4: most people I know in college money are in college money.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, there's the there's the slip right there. Yeah. No,
- 11:18Speaker 2: I think it's a uh it may.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Be an indication that they're not as attractive in the
- 11:25Speaker 4: portal as the money flows everywhere.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I keep saying that. People keep calling me out saying
- 11:30Speaker 3: it's not as much about the money, and I said,
- 11:32Speaker 3: it's all about the money.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's all about the All you gotta do is look around.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's it's insane to think not.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's that's the state we're in. You
- 11:42Speaker 4: can and you can sort of fight the ocean if
- 11:45Speaker 4: you want, but it and and sort of lament on
- 11:49Speaker 4: how it used to be and all this stuff.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Uh, but there's a reason.
- 11:54Speaker 4: You know, the SEC was playing a different game than
- 11:57Speaker 4: everybody else for a long time, and suddenly we've got
- 12:02Speaker 4: what three Big.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Ten national champions.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Because as somebody who went to a Big ten school,
- 12:10Speaker 4: I always said, the amount of money available to Big
- 12:14Speaker 4: ten schools and Notre Dame and that area of the
- 12:18Speaker 4: country is off the charts, and people in the SEC
- 12:21Speaker 4: never got that. But now that the money's out in
- 12:24Speaker 4: the open, we're seeing it's it's an awful lot. All
- 12:28Speaker 4: I gotta do is look at Hurley's post game at
- 12:33Speaker 4: Butler the basketball game. Listen, listen to what Hurley says.
- 12:39Speaker 4: He basically says, give the Butler coach nine million dollars
- 12:43Speaker 4: and he'll give you a really good team. And it's,
- 12:48Speaker 4: of course it's about the money, but it's about retaining
- 12:52Speaker 4: the talent too.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I mean, I would.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Guess I haven't looked at the list, but I would
- 12:57Speaker 4: guess there's somebody, a player two that's transferred from Colorado
- 13:02Speaker 4: that's at the Combine.
- 13:03Speaker 2: But i'd have to go look at that.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Well, I'm not at the Combine yet, but Jordan's Seaton,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, will be. I mean, he's gonna it's Jeff
- 13:11Speaker 1: Lawell joins us every single week. Always appreciate the insight
- 13:13Speaker 1: like you, thank.
- 13:14Speaker 2: You, buddy, Thanks those We'll see it.
