Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beacham.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Stand by for good news.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: All week long we have been walking down one road.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: We started before the dust.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: In the foreknowledge and mercy of God.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We stood in the garden where man fell, but God promised.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: We watched Abel.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Enoch walked.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Noah built.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Abraham journeyed, and Sarah received strength.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We listened as Hebrews named Gideon, Barak, Samson, and Jephthah, imperfect vessels used by a faithful God.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And now we come to the line that gathers the whole story together.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Hebrews 11 39 and 40 says, And these all having obtained a good report through faith, receive not the promise.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: That verse sounds mysterious until you see the road.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: They had faith, but they did not live to see the fullness of what God had planned.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: They saw promises, they offered sacrifices, they followed shadows, they trusted a word that was still moving toward fulfillment.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Abel's sacrifice pointed forward.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Noah's ark pointed forward.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Abraham's seed pointed forward.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: The lambs of Israel's altars pointed forward.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: The prophets pointed forward.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Joel lifted his voice and said that God would pour out his spirit upon all flesh.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Every promise was moving toward Jesus the Christ.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Then the fullness of time came.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Jesus was born of a woman.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: He lived without sin.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: He carried the cross to Calvary.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: He died.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: He was buried and rose again.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: The serpent bruised his heel, but Christ bruised the serpent's head.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: The promise in Eden had reached its great victory, but the story did not stop at an empty tomb.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: After his resurrection, Jesus told his disciples, I send the promise of my Father upon you.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: In Acts 1, he commanded them to wait for the promise.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And in Acts 2, when the Holy Ghost was poured out, Peter stood up and explained what had happened.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Peter did not preach that the promise had passed away.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: He preached that the promise had arrived.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Repent, he said, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Then he opened the door as wide as mercy could open it, for the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: That is why Hebrews says they should not be made perfect without us.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Their faith was real, but the story was not complete until Christ came.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Redemption was purchased and the Holy Ghost was poured out.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Then look forward to the promise.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: We are invited to receive the promise.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: So faith is not just admiring yesterday's heroes.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Faith is joining the same story today.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: It is believing the word of God over fear, over tradition, over delay, over doubt.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: It is trusting that the God who spoke in Eden called Abraham, strengthened the weak, and raised Jesus from the dead is still calling men and women now.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: The old saints carried the promise like a torch in the night.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: They could see the light, but they did not see the full sunrise.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: On the day of Pentecost, the light broke over the horizon.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: The Holy Ghost was poured out, and the same promise that had traveled through centuries was preached to every hungry heart.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And here is the good news.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: We are not standing outside the promise looking in.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: We are not waiting for another plan.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: God has already made the way.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Through Jesus Christ, the promise is still unto us, unto our children, and unto all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: In Acts 2, Peter opened the door of salvation to the Jews.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: In Acts 8, he opened the door to the Samaritans.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: And in Acts 10, the door of salvation was opened to the Gentiles.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: How did Peter and the believers with him know the Gentiles had received the Holy Ghost?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Acts 10 and 46 says, for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Later, Peter explained it this way: the Holy Ghost fell on them as on us at the beginning.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: The same promise had crossed every boundary, Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles, just as Peter said to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: If you are not a Jew or a Samaritan, you are part of the Gentiles in Acts 10, and the promise they received that day is still for you and me today.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: And that is very good news today.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: If you want to know more about the Holy Ghost experience, leave me a note and your email, and I'll return it as quickly as possible.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: This has been Five Minutes of Good News.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
