- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:12Run Rabbit welcome to What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:15The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:18the absurd and all of our. Favorite and least favorite
- 0:20scary movies Because we believe every horror movie rifle has is
- 0:23fanbase. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name is Travis, my name is Jesse, and welcome to November,
- 0:27everybody. Yeah, it's no longer Halloween
- 0:31time, unfortunately. But but, but we do have the last
- 0:36of our Halloween movies to discuss.
- 0:37We do, yeah. That's a quick fire review.
- 0:39We have several at once because of the way our scheduling, our
- 0:43recording schedule got messed up.
- 0:45Yeah. So we'll go through these kind
- 0:46of rapid fire on the 24th. You picked a familiar Dubra
- 0:50Party Massacre 3. Hey, I thought we already talked
- 0:52about that one. That's OK, I didn't leave a gap.
- 0:55I'll. Talk about it again.
- 0:56Hey, yeah, I love that movie. We love that movie.
- 0:58It's good. We watched it after Autohands.
- 1:00Yes, Autohans. Autohans.
- 1:03Then on the 25th we picked Midsummer.
- 1:06That was me. Familiar.
- 1:08Yeah. Always a classic.
- 1:09Oh yeah, on the 26th we went out.
- 1:12We saw a new movie together. That was the black phone, too.
- 1:14Yeah, it was a fun time. I really enjoyed it.
- 1:16I think I liked it better than the first.
- 1:18I did not enjoy the first, but I enjoyed the second, so take that
- 1:21for whatever you want it to be. On the 27th, Travis picked a new
- 1:25one for us, Silent Hill Revelation.
- 1:28Yeah, we wanted to finish the story and it left some to be
- 1:34desired. Jesse hated it more than I did.
- 1:36I thought it was OK I. Just imagine if I was somebody
- 1:40that had seen the first Silent Hill in 2006 and I had to wait
- 1:43till 2017 for that follow up. I would be furious.
- 1:45I was. I only had to wait two weeks and
- 1:47I was furious. Just pretty mad.
- 1:49Yeah, we got another one coming from the original guy.
- 1:51So we're on. We're a little bit optimistic.
- 1:55On the 28th I picked a new one for us, The Blackening.
- 1:58It's my favorite subgenre of horror, which is friends trapped
- 2:01in a single location playing an evil game.
- 2:03It's always a good one. Yes, and it was really funny on
- 2:06top of it, Yeah. It was a good time.
- 2:07On the 29th we had Halloween 4. I mean, obviously, obviously we
- 2:13were getting close to the end of the month.
- 2:14I had to pull it out eventually. We watch it every year.
- 2:17The 30th was Halloween 3 and that was just because we'd I had
- 2:21some stuff going on and just needed some familiar comfort
- 2:24food. And on the 31st, of course we
- 2:27just had a whole host of different movies we watched
- 2:29throughout the day. The ones I noted down were Hocus
- 2:31Pocus, Scream, Trick or Treat in Halloween.
- 2:33That was it, yeah. That's a good time.
- 2:36It's a good lineup for Halloween Day right there.
- 2:37Yeah, it was fun. The cats were like so drawn in
- 2:41by Binks and hocus pocus. They came running when they
- 2:44heard him meowing. That makes me happy.
- 2:46Yeah, I'm glad. One more announcement is that
- 2:49earlier this week on the 4th, I was on a guest episode of Ugg, I
- 2:54guess the new podcast by Lex Priscilla Price.
- 2:57We'll link that in the show notes, but go ahead.
- 2:59Wherever you listen to your podcast, go listen to that.
- 3:02We were talking about TV shows, theme songs.
- 3:06Yeah, I'm excited because I didn't.
- 3:07I wasn't in on that. It was just a just you guest.
- 3:10But yeah, that sounds like it's going to be a good time.
- 3:12Yeah, it was. It was a really fun recording.
- 3:14The show itself is a really good time and Lex is obviously a
- 3:18friend of our show. They were on here with JW Crump
- 3:22a couple years ago to talk about Halloween resurrection.
- 3:25Yeah, that's a great episode. Go check it out.
- 3:27God damn it, we didn't do palsy. Listen, it's I I barely know
- 3:32what day it is so. We're not even trying to make
- 3:35excuses at this point. It just is what it is man.
- 3:37Like it, shit happens. It is what it is.
- 3:39It's Halloween. It's been really busy, like
- 3:42obviously all October long. Our stuff is messed up and I'm
- 3:45not even going to try and pretend that it's not going to
- 3:46be better in November because I've got a shit ton of Dockers
- 3:49appointments that are about to. There's a lot going on with
- 3:51everything. This month, yeah.
- 3:53So maybe, maybe, maybe we'll have some.
- 3:55Maybe we won't. Can't make any promises, but
- 3:57what I can promise is we're still going to be covering
- 3:59movies like today, yes, which we start November with a bang,
- 4:05which is House of 1000 Corpses. We are doing a little theme this
- 4:10month. Jesse came up with it.
- 4:11It is kind of travel based horror movies that we're going
- 4:15to be doing for November. Yeah, yeah, kind of loosely,
- 4:19yeah. You know, like I mean this one
- 4:21right here, not a lot of traveling going on, but it is
- 4:23started from people traveling. They are Rd. tripping a little
- 4:26bit, yeah. So that's, you know it.
- 4:29Listen, there's only so many Thanksgiving themed horror
- 4:32films. So this is how we're staying in
- 4:34the spirit of the season. Yeah, we haven't released the
- 4:36schedule as of recording, but we'll have that out soon and
- 4:40you'll, you'll be the judge. We're still hoping to have time
- 4:43to record our announcement for our next franchise, which is why
- 4:46the schedule isn't out yet, at least as of the day that we're
- 4:49recording. Who knows how things will be by
- 4:51the time this episode's released.
- 4:52Yeah, I don't know. We don't know, but what we do
- 4:56know is that we're going to be talking about House of 1000
- 4:57Corpses right now. Yes.
- 4:59So it's happening. So we're getting into it.
- 5:02House of 1000 Corpses released or premiered, I should say,
- 5:06March 13th, 2003 at the Mar del Plata Film Fest with a wide
- 5:10release. April 11th, 2003.
- 5:13We watched the Honor Blu-ray, and if you want to watch it, as
- 5:16of November, you can watch it on HBO, Canopy and Fossum and
- 5:20through Hulu and Google and Amazon if you are subscribed to
- 5:25HBO from there. OK yeah.
- 5:27Renting. You have to do it through Apple,
- 5:28Amazon or Fandango. Written and directed by Rob
- 5:32Zombie, Music by Scott Humphrey and Rob Zombie.
- 5:35Special effects make up by Wayne Toth.
- 5:38Starring Aaron Daniels as Denise, Chris Hardwick as Jerry,
- 5:42Jennifer Johnson as Mary, Rainn Wilson as Bill, Bill Mosley as
- 5:47Otis, Sherry Moon Zombie as baby Karen Black as mother Firefly,
- 5:51Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding, Walton Goggins as Steve Nash,
- 5:56and Tom Taos as Detective George Waddell.
- 5:59Jesse, time to play our favorite game on the show Budget.
- 6:03Or bugdead. Oh, this is bugdead, Yeah.
- 6:07This is bugdead, but you would be surprised.
- 6:09It's $7,000,000. Wow.
- 6:11Yeah, not too bad. It had an opening box office of
- 6:143.4 million and a worldwide gross of 16 point. 8 Those are
- 6:19decent numbers for a zombie. Yeah, for his very first movie,
- 6:23yeah, for sure. You know, he did pretty good.
- 6:26It's a six point or it's actually a six even on IMDb
- 6:29right now. So not a bad score either.
- 6:31Kind of happy for him. Yeah.
- 6:33All right, so I have three other movies from 2003 to compare it
- 6:36to. The theme I came up with is
- 6:39Hitchhikers. Just fuck it all up.
- 6:41OK. So starting off, we have Texas
- 6:44Chainsaw Massacre. Oh yeah.
- 6:47You know, like. We just spent like most of 2025
- 6:51talking about this. Yeah, well, this is a Rob Zombie
- 6:54movie, so this is kind of like a Texas Chainsaw movie anyways.
- 6:58Yeah. But yeah, I mean, obviously you
- 7:00know how the movie goes. It starts with the hitchhiker
- 7:03and it does not go well from there.
- 7:05That released October 17th, 2003 with a 9.5 million budget, 107
- 7:10million gross, 6.2 out of 10 IMDb second movie Dead End.
- 7:15We haven't watched this, but. Or maybe we have.
- 7:18Actually. I think we did a long time ago.
- 7:20Yeah. It's like a ghost thing with
- 7:21these people driving around and they come across somebody and
- 7:24they kind of give them a ride. It's kind of a hitchhiker.
- 7:27I'm using some of this a little bit loosely here.
- 7:29Like I literally pulled this the last time I had a 2003 movie.
- 7:32Did you? Yeah, I think I remember.
- 7:34I feel like we never really fully remember what happened in
- 7:38the movie, but we know enough that we watched it.
- 7:40I know enough to know that you saying we never fully remember
- 7:42what happen is actually a really funny way to describe that
- 7:45maybe. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's the
- 7:48truth. Unfortunately, it came out
- 7:50September 26th, 2003. 900,000 budgets Don't have the gross,
- 7:55but it's a 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 7:58Final movie House of the Dead. OK, that came out October 10th,
- 8:032312 Million budgets, $13 million gross. 2.1 IMDb.
- 8:09Wow. Yeah, I want.
- 8:11That's one of the movies I've been telling you I want to show
- 8:14you for a long time now, because it is just so notoriously bad.
- 8:18It's directed by UU Bowl, I think is his name.
- 8:22It's the guy that like, if he, he's challenged many critics
- 8:25that have given his movies bad reviews to boxing matches, well,
- 8:28that's fun. And he's actually had a few of
- 8:30them. Yeah, he gets mad.
- 8:32He takes it personally. Just like you and John Carpenter
- 8:35someday. It's happening.
- 8:38Don't think I forgot, John. All right, so I've got some tag
- 8:41lines. The one on the poster.
- 8:44The most shocking tale of carnage ever seen.
- 8:47OK, yeah, OK. That's a pretty big guarantee.
- 8:51You're right there, Rob Zombie. That's, I mean, that's a lot of
- 8:54confidence. Yeah, slapped it right there.
- 8:58The movie some never wanted you to see.
- 9:00That's pretty good actually, because there is like story to
- 9:03that right there. Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:05There's no turning back. I mean, yeah, in the literal
- 9:09sense, that's true, yeah. True horror is back.
- 9:13OK, again, those are like big words, big, big words.
- 9:17Robert Zomberg. Robert Zomberg, you'll never get
- 9:20out alive. I think somebody did, actually.
- 9:24She she's going back, but she made it out alive.
- 9:27All right, you're technically correct, which we all know is
- 9:29the best kind of. Correct.
- 9:31God bless this house. I like that one.
- 9:34Yeah, I I hear that in Mother Firefly's voice.
- 9:38Yeah, dare you enter dot dot dot.
- 9:42That's it. OK.
- 9:44And finally, life and death are meaningless, and pain is God.
- 9:48That feels like the most. That's Otis right there for
- 9:52sure. Yeah, that's like one of his
- 9:54rantses doing to the cheerleaders.
- 9:55Yeah, oh man. OK, so let's do some fun facts.
- 10:00So this idea came to Rob Zombie while he was designing a haunted
- 10:04house attraction for Universal. Oh, mm.
- 10:07Hmm. That's fun.
- 10:08Funny thing. Also, Bill Mosley presented the
- 10:10award for it. So originally in 1999, Rob
- 10:15Zombie and Madonna of all people were originally working together
- 10:19to make a movie called The Legend of the 13 Graves, which
- 10:23is basically what this movie was.
- 10:24It was a bunch of teens travelling, they make it to some
- 10:28villains and then boom, it's what it is.
- 10:30You know, it's basically this movie, but apparently it must
- 10:33have fallen apart. I don't have any details on why
- 10:35that was no longer a thing, but Madonna was out of the picture.
- 10:38OK, Zombie actually made the pitch up on the spot because he
- 10:42just happened to be in the office of head of production at
- 10:44Universal, I'm assuming because of this house, and he just
- 10:48pitched it on the spot right there.
- 10:50He just made everything up. They liked it.
- 10:53So he decided to go home and he did a 12 page treatment.
- 10:56And then within two months they were already filming.
- 10:58Wow. Yeah, it was pretty impressive.
- 11:01May 2000 is when it started. They finished by Halloween and
- 11:06they they had the attraction which was going to be House of
- 11:091000 Corpses, but they ended up having to change the name of it
- 11:13because Universal would go to shelf the film because they were
- 11:16afraid that it was going to get an NC 17 rating.
- 11:20Well, yeah, that's kind of Fair. Yeah, so they end up changing it
- 11:23to American Nightmare, which I guess is Cody Rhodes themed.
- 11:30So yeah, Universal shelved it. Zombie eventually would buy the
- 11:34rights back and then he shopped it around.
- 11:36He almost had to deal with MGM, but it fell apart because Rob
- 11:40Zombie stated that they had no morals for releasing it.
- 11:43So they got mad at him saying that they're like, fuck it,
- 11:45we're not going to do it then Yep.
- 11:48So he had to take it again. Eventually he was going to be at
- 11:51a point where he was just going to release it on his own.
- 11:53But then Lionsgate entered, they had to make some cuts to get an
- 11:57R rating and most of it was some stuff with baby.
- 12:00But eventually they many, they made it happen.
- 12:03They got it to work. The budget started at 3 to 4
- 12:06million. It grew to 7 to 14,000,000,
- 12:10according to them. They knew they didn't have
- 12:12enough funds to make a good ending, is what they said.
- 12:15But they figured we'll film as much as we can.
- 12:18He's like, I know it's shitty, it's a terrible ending, but I'm
- 12:21going to show them that it's not that great and I'm going to need
- 12:24a little bit more money. So that's what he did.
- 12:26He filmed as much as he could, showed it to them.
- 12:28They're like, all right, fuck it, we'll give you some more
- 12:30money. So he ended up getting some more
- 12:31money to do that. There was originally going to be
- 12:34more footage of the teens travelling, but Rob Zombie
- 12:38figured nobody cared about him, so he got rid of it.
- 12:41And actually it was more of the studio that was wanting them to
- 12:45include the teens more. Yeah, he ended up just cutting
- 12:48it. They also had a skunk ape
- 12:50apparently that was going to be in it, which if you don't know
- 12:53what that is like, I didn't. It's apparently another mythical
- 12:57creature considered Bigfoot's cousin of some sorts.
- 13:01It's like a Yeti type thing in the South of America basically.
- 13:06I've never heard of it being somebody from the South.
- 13:09Yeah. Where?
- 13:10Where is this meant to be set? Where is Rugsville?
- 13:14You know, that's a good question.
- 13:16Because they all have like real thick accents.
- 13:19Yeah, I would imagine Texas, just because that seems like Rob
- 13:24Zombie and it feels very Texas. To me, it felt almost a little
- 13:29like Louisiana. It could be, yeah.
- 13:33This creature is mostly known around Florida, so I guess there
- 13:37could be an argument for Florida to be one of them.
- 13:39Florida would make a lot of sense, too.
- 13:41Yeah. Along with that though, there
- 13:43was other cut things like fish boys procedure, which apparently
- 13:47there was a lot more to that. And also there was a scene of
- 13:50baby masturbating with the skeleton.
- 13:52OK. Yeah, that was probably one of
- 13:54the things that got cut. Yeah, I'd assume so.
- 13:57Yeah. I mean, you just.
- 13:57I mean, for the R rating, I should say.
- 13:59Yeah. OK.
- 14:00Yeah. And originally it was gonna be
- 14:02Grandpa Hugo that was gonna be Doctor Satan, but they ended up
- 14:05scrapping that idea and it ended up just really reducing that
- 14:09character's role in the movie. So he's just kind of around if
- 14:12you were ever wondering why he's even there.
- 14:13I'm OK with that because I didn't really like Grandpa's
- 14:16character anyway. It's kind of I didn't care.
- 14:18What are you doing here? I like the Doctor Satan.
- 14:21We end up getting a lot better, better than what that would have
- 14:23been. And the final bit is they did
- 14:26additional scenes after production was wrapped in Rob
- 14:29Zombie's basement. This is where we're getting a
- 14:31lot of those like transition shots where it just like cuts to
- 14:33something completely unrelated like Sherry Moon and Bill
- 14:37Mosley, like doing the rants in the basements, basically all
- 14:40that stuff that Rob Zombie made himself afterwards.
- 14:42OK. So yeah, that's pretty much all
- 14:45the stuff I got there. It's pretty interesting little
- 14:47read. There's a lot of stuff that went
- 14:48on with the making of this, and yeah, there's a lot more out
- 14:52there. We watched the special features
- 14:54and it was surprisingly not very informative considering all of
- 14:59the features that we had on it. The special features was like
- 15:0350% sig Bill and Sherry just having.
- 15:07It's fucking around. Yeah.
- 15:09There's also a video game on there.
- 15:10You can play a game where you play as Sheriff Wydell or
- 15:13Detective Wydell and like, you are gathering food and pumpkins
- 15:17and you're getting chased by zombies.
- 15:19It's I gotta like admire the the amount of detail that went into
- 15:24this release. This is clearly an early 2000s
- 15:26DVD release right here. Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:29Yeah, OK, so that's it for the fun Facts.
- 15:32Let's get into our discussion. Goodbye, ugly and absurd.
- 15:35Jesse, what do you like about this one?
- 15:36Well, I did want to go ahead and touch on the fun menu because
- 15:39that's something that we talked about a lot.
- 15:41And I know this is more in relation to the copy that we
- 15:45have and not necessarily the movie just itself, but we talk a
- 15:49lot about how much we love a fun menu, an interactive menu
- 15:52screen, and I'm glad that we got that with this.
- 15:55There's a different one. This is unique to the Blu-ray
- 15:57that we have, but I remember the DVD one because I rented it a
- 16:00long time ago and it is, it's more like Captain Spaulding
- 16:04involved. It is another interactive menu.
- 16:07I can't remember exactly what it is though.
- 16:09But yeah, they they put love into it.
- 16:11OK, I you could tell Rob took a lot of big creative swings with
- 16:18it, like he was trying stuff and I appreciate the the amount of
- 16:22effort that went into it. I also think the cast is great,
- 16:26like everybody is selling the shit out of everything they're
- 16:29given to to put on screen. And I think that's just great.
- 16:34And even though Rob definitely refines later on his style, this
- 16:41still feels very much like classic Rob Zombie.
- 16:44Yeah, you could tell. Like he has that sense of style
- 16:48that's unique to him. Yes, absolutely.
- 16:51And I think that this does a good job of kind of portraying
- 16:55that. And there was, there's not a lot
- 16:58of story to it, but watching it again last night, there was more
- 17:01story than I remembered. So there's at least that.
- 17:04Yeah, it's, it's not strong, but it's there.
- 17:07Yeah, I it's also just really hard because I love Devil's
- 17:14Rejects about 300% more than I love House of 1000 Corpses.
- 17:17So it's just really it's hard not to compare the 2.
- 17:20Yeah, one. I mean, it's the same series.
- 17:23Yeah, it's it's the sequel and I think that is Rob's best movie.
- 17:28Yeah, it is. It's a fantastic.
- 17:29By and large, yeah. Well, I almost wanted to do that
- 17:32movie, but then I wanted to cover these chronologically, so
- 17:35I want to get House of 1000 Corpses knocked out for us
- 17:38because it's still a good movie, but it really, like Devil's
- 17:42Rejects, takes the cake for that entire franchise right there.
- 17:45This feels very directorial debut, like he didn't come out
- 17:49the gates like just, you know, a savant.
- 17:54He has a lot of technical know how being a musician and having
- 17:57done, you know, music videos and what not, like he's got some of
- 18:01that technical experience. You see the raw goods here.
- 18:05It's, it's not yet refined, like I said, but it's there.
- 18:10It's all there. And you can definitely see that
- 18:12he's got a twisted mind behind everything that knows what it's
- 18:16going to be doing so. Yeah, he had a vision.
- 18:18Yeah. Yeah, what about you?
- 18:21I like the one of the same things.
- 18:23The fun characters is one of the things that makes this movie for
- 18:26me because there isn't a lot of plot to really keep you around,
- 18:29you know, like, if it weren't for the characters, this
- 18:32wouldn't be a good movie. Yeah, but Rob Zombie, he did a
- 18:36good job with these also. So all the actors that he got
- 18:38for this, like, I know that these are Rob's guys, but I
- 18:41mean, this is where it started. So like, he may have been
- 18:44friends with them previously. But like, Captain Spaulding is
- 18:48such an iconic character. Everybody knows who that is at
- 18:51this point, even if you don't really know who it is.
- 18:53Like they're familiar with the the Wog.
- 18:56Like my sister is dressed up as in before, and I don't think
- 18:59she's seen this movie. You.
- 19:00Know. But I mean, that's like a huge
- 19:03thing. He's got a lot of style.
- 19:05I love Rob Zombie's movies. I know that he is a very
- 19:08divisive figure in horror, but like, for me, it works well.
- 19:13I like his dialogue. Like I he, he's one of those
- 19:16people that can make like, entertaining dialogue.
- 19:18Like two people having a conversation can be
- 19:20entertaining. Fun stuff in there like just the
- 19:25Uber. Yeah, the Uber thing.
- 19:27Store Yeah, stuff like that is real fun.
- 19:29Obviously, all of Captain Salting's dialogue.
- 19:32And I wonder how much of that is him and how much of that is Sid
- 19:35Hague, because I feel like there's a lot of Sid Hague
- 19:37coming through right there. And a cool thing that I was
- 19:41reading about this that I feel like speaks to it is he let the
- 19:44movie dictate the style itself. He didn't want this to be a
- 19:48campy movie at first. He wanted it to be like, very
- 19:50serious. But he said as he was directing
- 19:53it, things were getting bigger and like, you know, more wacky.
- 19:56And he's like, you know what? This is what the movie is like.
- 19:58This is how it is. I'm going to roll with it.
- 20:00Let's let it do its thing. And I think that that was the
- 20:03right call. OK, That's it for my my good
- 20:06stuff. What about bats?
- 20:08Bad I I don't love those little vignettes from his basement.
- 20:13Yeah, no, I'm not like a huge fan of it either.
- 20:16That's where the whole music video background stuff really
- 20:21like this is where he's got the experience from.
- 20:23Like if you didn't even know like you'd be like this seems
- 20:26like somebody who's done music videos before and maybe not a
- 20:28future link. Yeah.
- 20:31It just, I mean, yeah, it gives us a little bit about the
- 20:34characters. I see the purpose of it.
- 20:36I just personally don't like it because it's distracting.
- 20:39So is it just the parts where they're in the basement, like
- 20:41doing like old monologues, or do you like, what about the like
- 20:44snippets of like the cheerleaders and stuff that
- 20:45we're seeing throughout? I think when we're cutting to
- 20:48the snippets of the cheerleaders, like that's
- 20:50happening in real time, you see what Otis is actually up to and
- 20:53what Baby's actually up to. That makes sense.
- 20:56As opposed to like this weird, like, who were they talking to?
- 20:59Yeah, like it makes it almost feel like it's part
- 21:01mockumentary, like that one to be movie that we almost did,
- 21:04that we decided we. Manson Family.
- 21:06Yeah, that we decided we couldn't do just because it was
- 21:09such a loose yeah narrative. Yeah, like that's kind of
- 21:12teetering on that for me. I think it could have made more
- 21:15sense if we had seen them kill somebody with a camcorder.
- 21:19Yeah, like there there are ways that could have made it make
- 21:22sense. And I get like it's a stylistic
- 21:24thing and probably also just trying to make sure that it's
- 21:26feature length. But yeah, all together that was
- 21:29like what, 5 minutes of footage? We could have cut it and it
- 21:31wouldn't have been a big deal. True, it's a pretty short movie,
- 21:34but yeah, I don't think it would have like made or break it or
- 21:36anything. You got anything else?
- 21:39Those are probably the big things.
- 21:41OK, for me it's a lot of just random events happening for no
- 21:46reason. That's part of it right there.
- 21:48But I also feel like a lot of this movie is just like, there's
- 21:51no explanation. Like, hey, we're doing this now.
- 21:53You know, like when we get to the house, we're getting like
- 21:55fucking stage shows, which is. Halloween.
- 21:58That's their Halloween tradition.
- 21:59Do they just do that for everybody?
- 22:01I think so, she said. I understand y'all don't like to
- 22:06participate in Halloween traditions, but you're in our
- 22:08house. We're gonna make you love it.
- 22:10OK, it's a lot of that. And then it's just like, even
- 22:13things as Captain Spaulding's like it is that place is
- 22:16whatever you want it to be. He could have had anything at
- 22:18that fucking gas station. Like it starts off as a gas
- 22:22station. It's also a chicken place.
- 22:24Then it's also a museum. Then they have a fucking ride
- 22:27where he's like, he's also like given story time, who's running
- 22:31the gas station when he's doing that because the other guy's
- 22:33pushing. I just assume that anybody who
- 22:37pulls up for gas can get fucked while they're waiting for him to
- 22:40come out. That actually seems kind of
- 22:42accurate for his attitude. You're right either way, I'm
- 22:45just saying there's a lot of randomness happening with a.
- 22:48It's not like it's we like one of the things that we've talked
- 22:51about before. It's like A and this happened
- 22:52and then this like instead of this because of this and then
- 22:55this type thing. And I am just not really a huge
- 22:59fan of the ending of this movie. I feel like it kind of goes for
- 23:02a little bit and it's just it's, it doesn't keep my interest with
- 23:06her just roaming the tunnels down there.
- 23:08Yeah, I'm a little bit confused about the people that that are
- 23:11down in the tunnels. That's another random thing that
- 23:13I'm talking about. It doesn't make any sense.
- 23:15It almost reminds me of what the fucking Australian Problem
- 23:21movie. The the loved ones.
- 23:23Yes. Yeah, that's what I'm.
- 23:25Thinking how they have like the lobotomized people in there.
- 23:27That's what I was thinking too. I I was thinking they probably
- 23:29took inspiration from, I guess Dahmer, right?
- 23:33That was the guy that was trying to make zombies.
- 23:35Yes, I think so. I could see him taking
- 23:38inspiration from like, real serial killers for this.
- 23:43Yeah. OK, what about ugly?
- 23:45Well, while we're on that, we've talked a little bit about this
- 23:48on the show. There is a fine line with true
- 23:50crime between like, here's something informative that's
- 23:54good to know in terms of like there's still girl historical
- 23:58events that have happened, things to be looking out for as
- 24:01a human in the world that could potentially be prey to a serial
- 24:05killer. Honoring the victims versus
- 24:10we're going to glorify these serial killers because we find
- 24:13them fascinating and turn a profit off of that.
- 24:16And that line I feel like tends to get crossed a lot.
- 24:19Yeah, I always like, I think Captain Spaulding is pretty
- 24:22upfront with it. It's like I'm not a good person.
- 24:24Yeah, like I'm actually a killer myself.
- 24:27Yeah. So there's that.
- 24:29There's obviously like the everything.
- 24:32That's the the everything. Yeah, just just all of it.
- 24:36Well, that's actually my Ugly is like, I mean everything about
- 24:38Rob Zombie's films, like he basically just shows you the
- 24:42like the ugliest parts of humanity.
- 24:44Yeah, like the worst things you can think of.
- 24:46I mean, that's his style. I like it.
- 24:49It's ugly, but you know, I enjoy it.
- 24:51OK, very absurd. This is the least of the
- 24:56problems here, but babies jeans like what?
- 24:59The entire ass out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:02I wonder who who decided that? Was it wrong?
- 25:05Like, hey, can you show your butt?
- 25:07Or did Sherry be like, hey, can I show my butt?
- 25:11You know. We don't need the answer, yeah.
- 25:15Yeah, it is what it is, but. I wonder sometimes, man, For me,
- 25:22part of it was Captain Spaulding's place just being
- 25:24what it is. I've already went over that.
- 25:26But also Fish boy. Fish boy is fucking crazy.
- 25:30The fact that it's also Rain Wilson.
- 25:32It's so weird. Yeah, like this is pretty The
- 25:34Office. So like we nobody had any idea
- 25:37that this was going to be Dwight at the time.
- 25:39But like, it's like in like today, watching it, it's just so
- 25:44strange. It's so funny because he looks
- 25:45so much like Dwight. Yeah, I know.
- 25:48And he kind of acts like him too, still.
- 25:50Yeah. Rain, Rain Wilson, kind of.
- 25:52I mean, that's just him. But he did well enough to where
- 25:55I didn't like I could separate him from the Dwight.
- 25:58Absolutely, Which I kind of feel bad for him because I know he
- 26:02he's Dwight to everybody now. But like, you know, I was happy
- 26:05to actually see him in a movie and be like, hey, man, I'm happy
- 26:08that you're not playing the same guy.
- 26:10Yeah, no, his character, I think it's definitely different.
- 26:13It's just more like the way he looked.
- 26:15Yeah, partially the glasses, partially when he gets to the
- 26:17Firefly house and he puts on the overalls cuz that's shrewd
- 26:20farms, Dwight. I mean, the face whenever, like
- 26:23we're seeing the recording of him being tortured and like he's
- 26:27like got his like face looking in and he's got like 5 chins.
- 26:30Like I mean, that's a classic Dwight look.
- 26:34OK. What do you rate this?
- 26:36I'm gonna give it a 6 1/2. OK, I'm giving A7.
- 26:39OK, yeah, this is a solid movie. I like it a lot.
- 26:42All right, it's a 6.75 starting average.
- 26:44They're close to the pulse of IMDb.
- 26:47Close, but pretty usual, a little bit over.
- 26:50OK. All right, let's get into it.
- 26:52We started off with the commercial for Doctor
- 26:54Wolfenstein's creature feature show, and then we get an ad for
- 26:57Captus Balding's Museum of Monsters and Madmen and Chicken
- 27:01and Gas. And chicken.
- 27:03Yeah, and gas. There's just so many things I'm
- 27:06telling. You it's a one stop.
- 27:07Shop it. Really is, Yeah.
- 27:08It's like it was Bucky's before Bucky's.
- 27:11You know what? Yeah, it's.
- 27:12Yeah. It's what Bucky's is afraid to
- 27:15be. I.
- 27:15Guarantee you the person that made Bucky's watched House of
- 27:171000 Corpses like I fucking got it.
- 27:20We will have roast beef and jerky and T-shirts and popcorn
- 27:25and also gas but no trucks. No trucks, so we now see them
- 27:32well outside Captain Spaulding's place.
- 27:35We see some people are just kind of like camping out outside.
- 27:39When we're inside, we see the camp counselor from Sleep away
- 27:42Camp three. You know, the really horny old
- 27:45dude. And he is still playing a horny
- 27:46old dude, but he's a horny old dude on a mission because he's
- 27:50got this signed photo and he wanted to resell it but he can't
- 27:53because it was personalized with his name.
- 27:54Fun fact, you will see it some cons that some artists, some
- 27:59celebrities will not sign just their name.
- 28:02They will always do it with name or if they do it without name
- 28:05they will charge a premium for it and it's because of this.
- 28:08Yeah, which I'm happy with because I want my stuff for me.
- 28:11I'm not buying this shit to resell.
- 28:13Yeah, I got the spike right in front of me, says to Jesse.
- 28:17Right next to Cordelia. Yeah, right next to Cordelia,
- 28:19also to Jesse. Yeah, like those are for me.
- 28:22Yeah, so we see he's going to the bathroom.
- 28:26When he goes to the bathroom, the two robbers just bust in and
- 28:30they hold him up at gunpoint. And you know what?
- 28:32Captain Spalding is not the one. He is not.
- 28:35Yeah, he will not step down. He's actually just pointing a
- 28:38chicken at them instead. Yeah, he's giving them a lot of
- 28:44back sass. And the one that's got the gun
- 28:47on him is not taken, is not taken kindly to it.
- 28:50The one that's got the gun on the camp owner, he's upset
- 28:55because he's. He remembers it.
- 28:57He's like an. Olympic.
- 28:59Brick or something like that. Yeah, something like that, yeah.
- 29:02Just like sings just like Jingle about him.
- 29:04Yeah, apparently that he works at the hardware store.
- 29:08That he knows, everybody knows that he's Rick's got Dick
- 29:10issues. Yeah, so he gets really upset
- 29:14about that, whizzes his composure, drops his mask.
- 29:17And when this happens, I don't know who the fuck this guy is,
- 29:20but he comes in, he works with Captain Spaulding, He's got like
- 29:23a big head on and he just like attacks, ambushes, they get the
- 29:27upper hand, they kill the people.
- 29:28Yep, it is what it is. It is what it is.
- 29:31We got two kids in a car. Jerry won't drive because he
- 29:35says he can't drive this late at night.
- 29:37He's got night vision. It's just a bad issue.
- 29:41And Bill's like, well, you could have at least filled the tank up
- 29:45with gas. He's like, I put 2 to $3.00 in
- 29:47there. Look, there's a gas station
- 29:49right there. I guess we should also say this
- 29:51is October 30th, 1977, so $2.00 of gas is different than
- 29:56today's. I'm glad that you wrote that
- 29:59down because I missed that. And I was like, oh, that's not a
- 30:02lot of gas. That's to know.
- 30:04Yeah, it it puts some things in the context here.
- 30:06They stop at Captain Spaulding Zone because they see the sign
- 30:09when they're driving down there and they also see that it's a
- 30:11roadside attraction, which these people are working on a little
- 30:15book for roadside attraction. So what are?
- 30:17You writing a book about roadside attraction?
- 30:19So Bill is asking Captain Spaulding how long he's had it.
- 30:21He's like, well, I took over right after the Duke won his
- 30:25first Oscar, and so they talk about John Wayne for a minute.
- 30:29Bill, of course, prefers sci-fi because Rainn Wilson just is
- 30:32right. Sure.
- 30:33Yep, yeah. And then Captain Spaulding
- 30:36starts taking offense to him writing this book.
- 30:40He's good, man. He's asking so many questions.
- 30:42Yeah, and he's like, I'm just fucking with you.
- 30:46Dude, I would be intimidated by you.
- 30:48I would. See my pants?
- 30:49Yeah, he is a he's a scary person.
- 30:51Yes. But they also see that there is
- 30:55a murder tour and it's a. Murder Ride.
- 30:58Yeah, this gets Jerry super fucking excited, so he goes to
- 31:01wake up the two girlfriends out in the car.
- 31:04Yeah, Mary and Denise. So they're getting in a little
- 31:07cart that is going to be pushed by the same person who helps
- 31:11kill the robbers. That's.
- 31:12A big head. I don't know what his name is.
- 31:14It's basically an oral history on notorious serial murderers.
- 31:19We've got Albert, Fish, Egg Gain and S Quentin, otherwise known
- 31:23as Doctor Satan. Albert Fish is probably one of
- 31:26the most fucked up ones ever. Yeah, like just, it's
- 31:30disgusting, like reading his shit.
- 31:32Yes, all of, and this is, you know kind of what I'm talking
- 31:34about, like it's stuff like that turning a profit off is like.
- 31:38That. Yeah, some.
- 31:40Of the most heinous shit ever, yeah.
- 31:42And then that, yeah, yeah. It's really upsetting.
- 31:46But Jerry comes out of that energized, and he wants to know
- 31:49more about Doctor Satan because supposedly he was hanged in a
- 31:53bout of vigilante justice, and the hanging tree is not far from
- 31:58where they're at, and he pesters Captain Spaulding into giving
- 32:01him directions to it. Yeah, while all that's
- 32:04happening, Denise goes out to the phone booth and gives her
- 32:07dad a call. I guess they're driving to his
- 32:08place too, and he's expecting them.
- 32:11So she's like, hey, we're going to be a little bit late.
- 32:12We're going to make this a little detour, but we'll be
- 32:14there. So he knows.
- 32:16He knows that where they are. We do cut to hear some news that
- 32:20five cheerleaders went missing from Riggsville.
- 32:24Riggsville. I kept switching back and forth
- 32:27between Riggsville and Riggsville in my notes, but
- 32:30they're they've been missing since a football game four days
- 32:33ago. Yeah, so they're driving.
- 32:35They come across a hit tracker. It's a little baby Firefly, and
- 32:39they pick her up and she's like, hey, I know exactly where the
- 32:41tree is. It's right next to our house.
- 32:43I'll show you where it's at. So they're they're driving there
- 32:47and the tire gets shot out and Bill says Jerry, and please tell
- 32:52me you at least filled the spare.
- 32:54And he was like I did. I just jumped it back in the
- 32:56truck. What a fucking idiot I.
- 32:59I could not be in business with Jerry.
- 33:01No, I would not be able to handle this.
- 33:04Guy no, I like who tolerates this honestly, it's just.
- 33:09Like what does like, what leverage does he have on Bill?
- 33:12Is he like just the only person that's motivated enough to write
- 33:15this book with him? It What if it's his car?
- 33:17It's probably his car. He's the only one that's got a
- 33:19car. That's why Bill is extra like
- 33:21upset about having to buy so much gas because it's.
- 33:24His car, yeah. So, yeah, their baby's like,
- 33:29it's OK My brother's got a tow truck.
- 33:32He can give you guys a tow back to our place.
- 33:34Just. I need somebody to come with me.
- 33:36So Bill volunteers. He's going to go with her.
- 33:38Yeah, and they get there, and this is red flag #1 because
- 33:42there are just baby dolls nailed all over the front porch of this
- 33:46house. But Halloween time could be a
- 33:49really cool decoration. See.
- 33:50It's plausible enough. Maybe if they weren't nailed in.
- 33:56That's dedication, OK. It's disturbing is what.
- 34:00It is. It is disturbing, I'm not going
- 34:02to lie, but it's Halloween time. It's supposed to be disturbing.
- 34:05She surprises him, and she says, hey, RJ went on ahead to go tow
- 34:10the car back. Come on inside, we'll get you
- 34:12warmed up. And they're just making awkward
- 34:14small talk in the living room. And she takes his glasses, and
- 34:18he's like, I need those to see. And she just sits really close
- 34:20to the TV with his glasses on. Yeah.
- 34:24I was surprised how long she kept those on for and how long
- 34:27he actually allowed it that happened.
- 34:28Especially because I have to assume those are bring Wilson's
- 34:30actual glasses. I'm sure they are.
- 34:32Yeah. So the others are still in the
- 34:36car. It's raining now and they are
- 34:39surprised by RJ who just instead of saying hi, goes over and
- 34:42pounds on the car hood. Yeah, I'm I They're correct to
- 34:45be scared in that moment. This man does not.
- 34:47He doesn't say a single word. No, he just bangs on shit and
- 34:50shoots car tires basically. Yep.
- 34:53Yeah, that's his thing. Yeah, and he gets them towed and
- 34:55they head back to the house. So the three of them come in,
- 35:00Denise is asking to use the phone, but mother says that they
- 35:02don't have one. And they're asking how long
- 35:06it'll take for RJ to fix their car.
- 35:08And they said, well, he went out to go get a wheel.
- 35:10He should be back in two to three hours.
- 35:13They're very frustrated about this.
- 35:16Mother Firefly wants to celebrate Halloween.
- 35:19These people are not into celebrating the Halloween.
- 35:22I get the discomfort at being in a stranger's house.
- 35:25There is just some piece of me that I think was just, it was
- 35:29too ingrained to me to be polite.
- 35:32I'm like, Oh my God, they're being so rude to these people
- 35:35that are helping them with their car.
- 35:36I understand that it was a setup.
- 35:39Yeah. As a movie viewer, I understand
- 35:42that, but I'm also putting myself in their shoes.
- 35:44I'm like don't be this fucking rude.
- 35:46Especially Denise of all people. Like she's like, oh, it'll be
- 35:49like an hour before they can, you know, get your tired.
- 35:51She's like, what the fuck is wrong with you?
- 35:52I'm like, dude, they're helping you.
- 35:54Like they could have just left you guys stranded out there.
- 35:56Yeah, like they don't know yet that they're gonna be murdered.
- 35:59Yeah, at that point, yes, be as rude as you want, but right now
- 36:02they're just kind of eccentric folks.
- 36:04They really love Halloween that are fixing your car.
- 36:06Exactly. It's also dinner time.
- 36:10There's a lot of candles on the table.
- 36:11There is a what how that always that always catches your eye,
- 36:15like the amount of candles in the scene.
- 36:18Because first of all, it represents a real hazard, like
- 36:22because those candles, who, who lit them?
- 36:24How long have they been lit? How long have they been lit
- 36:26unsupervised? Yeah, that's a huge problem.
- 36:29Second of all, it looks like they're trying to serve a meal,
- 36:33maybe family style. And how do you do that?
- 36:35If you've got 37 candles, it's in the middle of this table.
- 36:40I think they just like being dangerous with it.
- 36:42Like you reach for the mashed potatoes, but you accidentally
- 36:44start a house fire. You know, like.
- 36:46I don't like that. It's just dinner with risks, you
- 36:49know? I don't know.
- 36:51That's not, that's not a good risk.
- 36:52You know what Smokey the Bear says?
- 36:54Only you can prevent forest fires.
- 36:56Well, they don't get that Channel.
- 36:58They they never saw that ad. Man, no, wait, hold on, I'm
- 37:02gonna look it up on Smokey the Bear first premiered.
- 37:04Oh, you know what? That actually could be true.
- 37:06Like they may. The message may not have gotten
- 37:08now yet. The fire's bad.
- 37:10First appearance August 9th, 1944.
- 37:13Oh, y'all should know better. Yeah.
- 37:16Yeah. OK, I can't excuse you guys.
- 37:18You guys are fireflies too. Come on.
- 37:20Yeah, it's tiny showing up. Which tiny?
- 37:24If you were thinking the name means anything.
- 37:25It just means it's really, really big.
- 37:28His father Earl burned him when he was a child and it caused him
- 37:34a lot of damage but most notably burnt his ears and ruined his
- 37:38hearing so you can't hear super well.
- 37:39I just like how they tell this story like it's like, oh, I got,
- 37:43you know, this old thing, you know, like the dad, his dad went
- 37:47crazy, wanted to burn the whole house down, started in Tiny's
- 37:50room. He got badly burned.
- 37:52You know it is what it. Is, yeah.
- 37:55She she hands him a message though, and it's to go get
- 37:58Grandpa. So he goes to get Grandpa.
- 38:00So they're all eating. They have to wear their masks
- 38:02for desserts. Denise, again, doesn't want to.
- 38:06And grandpa's like she won't let us eat dessert if you don't put
- 38:08the mask on. Put the mask on.
- 38:10I like his priorities in this moment.
- 38:12Yeah. Listen, this man wants to eat
- 38:15his dessert, practice his stand up routine.
- 38:18That's all great. That's why he can't be Doctor
- 38:21Satan. He's got different goals.
- 38:23What's going on? Yeah, yeah, he's better as he
- 38:26is. But enter Otis with a jar with a
- 38:29baby. I don't know what's happening
- 38:32here. Where did he get that?
- 38:33That's probably a question that you don't want answered
- 38:35honestly. I don't think so, because Mama
- 38:37Firefox was like, oh, that was a great night.
- 38:39She kisses the jar like what the fuck happened?
- 38:41Much like how Jerry probably didn't really realize that he
- 38:44wanted his questions about Doctor Satan answered and Otis
- 38:48is telling him he's like, no that shit that they're selling
- 38:50you at Captain's balding. So it's not the truth.
- 38:54Yeah, but he like kind of tells the truth, but I don't even know
- 38:56how much is actually true at the end of this movie.
- 38:59I don't know what all is real. Yeah, and I don't know if we're
- 39:02supposed to, but you know what is real?
- 39:05The clock is chiming and that means it's Showtime.
- 39:08Showtime. They got a stage in their house.
- 39:11I guess they got fucking stage. Why, it's even and it is, I
- 39:15think, Mama Firefly. No, no, it's the other dude.
- 39:17It's Grandpa. He's up there doing his stand
- 39:19up. Stand up and then baby does the
- 39:20lip sync. Yeah, which she takes it a
- 39:23little bit too far for Denise's liking because she sits on
- 39:26Bill's lap and tries to, you know, flirt with him, and she
- 39:29shoves him off of Bill. And then they're shouting at
- 39:33each other and eventually RJ comes in and is like, hey, car's
- 39:35done, I. Forgot that's the one thing he
- 39:37said. Car's done, yeah?
- 39:39They leave and they're trying to drive away.
- 39:41Baby jumps on the car, they're freaking out.
- 39:43They're like, we got to get going, stop the car.
- 39:46And Bill gets out there like what the fuck are you doing?
- 39:48He goes, I have to open the gate.
- 39:50And you know what? All of these creepy ass
- 39:52scarecrows that are around here are actually members of the
- 39:54Firefly family. How did they ever have time to
- 39:57go set up? Like they got in the car and
- 39:59went immediately but over this must have like like ran all the
- 40:03way out to there like put on like this outfit and everything.
- 40:05Same thing with tiny and tiny does not move fast.
- 40:08But they're both wiry. They got you can't runners
- 40:12bodies. I guess, well, Tiny does.
- 40:14Are you kidding me? He's like, you're that big.
- 40:16It's hard. Otis does.
- 40:17Otis. Otis and baby.
- 40:18Sorry, that's what I was thinking of.
- 40:20Yeah, and I like, we've seen another movie.
- 40:22So like you do have to open the gate like Texas Chainsaw 3D
- 40:26trying to drive through that gate, you're going to ruin your
- 40:27car. Doesn't work.
- 40:28Yeah, so Bill is attacked and he is dragged away.
- 40:32Jerry gets out and he's attacked too.
- 40:35Tiny pulls Mary out and then Otis attacks the car with Denise
- 40:40inside. Yeah.
- 40:42Then it's Halloween. I see RJ towin the destroyed
- 40:46car. Don Willis.
- 40:49That's Denise's dad. He calls the sheriff and he's
- 40:51like, hey, Denise and her friends are supposed to be here
- 40:54about 11:00 last night. They called me from this Captain
- 40:57Spalding's gas station. And the sheriff's like, I'll
- 41:00send some boys out to look around.
- 41:02Yeah. It's like it was raining real
- 41:03bad last night, probably just due to that.
- 41:06Yeah, which the we got Juan Goggins here as one of the cops
- 41:10and also George Wydell, who I think funny enough is the guy
- 41:14that played Otis in Henry. So I know he didn't get the name
- 41:19Otis from that. But like, I think it's just
- 41:21funny that we got 2 Otis's in this movie here.
- 41:24Yeah, no, we discover in the Devil's Rejects that they're all
- 41:27like. Scratch O marks.
- 41:28Yeah, yeah. So we cut to Otis.
- 41:31He's got. It's Denise.
- 41:34It's Denise. She's tied up in the corner with
- 41:36a dunce cap. These actresses needed to look
- 41:39different. Hey, you want to know something
- 41:41funny? And the special features they
- 41:43got the names mixed up on there too.
- 41:45OK, like I said, Denise and then the the woman was like, so my
- 41:49character Mary, he's like, like, they didn't even know
- 41:52themselves. So like, don't feel bad if you
- 41:54can't tell these two apart. At one point one of them had a
- 41:57braid. The braid is gone.
- 41:59I don't know who is who. I think it's Denise that lives
- 42:03until the end. Yeah, she's the one that gets
- 42:05fucked up from seeing her dad's face.
- 42:07Yeah, yeah, and that's who we're with here.
- 42:09She's got the dunce cap on in Otis's room and he's just
- 42:12lecturing her own shit. That's just kind of Otis's deal.
- 42:15Man, he is deep in the throes of some delusions of grandeur type
- 42:22shit. He also reveals his masterpiece
- 42:25because apparently he was having some kind of creative block this
- 42:27entire time until he suddenly got inspired.
- 42:30And it's fish boy. Yeah, Rainn Wilson, just as like
- 42:32a fish. Man, he said Bill was very
- 42:34inspirational to him. I mean, whenever I look at Rainn
- 42:37Wilson, I think fish too, you know, I think most people would
- 42:41say that. I can't say that I would say
- 42:43that. All right, that's our poll right
- 42:44there. Do you?
- 42:45If you look at Rainn Wilson, do you think fish?
- 42:49Well, you decide. So we now cut to the cops.
- 42:53They're checking in over at Spalding's there.
- 42:56He is really not working with them too well.
- 42:58They're getting kind of actually the cops are kind of aggressive.
- 43:01Dragons. Yeah, he's coming in hot.
- 43:03He's full of piss and vinegar. He's trying to do, yeah, the
- 43:06good, bad or a good cop? Bad cop here.
- 43:09It's like a medal or a condemnation, a condom
- 43:12commendation. He wants that, yeah.
- 43:17He like he wants something and he's like nobody better slow me
- 43:22down from getting these assholes.
- 43:24The thing is, Captain Spaulding's actually being
- 43:26honest and upfront about everything.
- 43:27Like he gave them directions to Doctor Satan's tree because they
- 43:31were curious about Doctor Satan's tree.
- 43:33Yeah. So I mean, like, I, I like how
- 43:35the movie doesn't tell you that Captain Spaulding's a bad guy
- 43:39right away, you know? Yeah, I forget that.
- 43:41It's like a reveal at the end that he's part of the family.
- 43:44And even then it's questionable, like he could have just snuck in
- 43:47the back of his car, you know? Yeah.
- 43:50So they they know where to go now they're gonna go check shit
- 43:53out over there. So we cut to Mary.
- 43:56Yeah, she's, she's tied up in Tawny's room.
- 43:58And he comes in, he's eating his, he's eating his Agatha
- 44:02Krispies. Yeah, You know the cool thing
- 44:06about Tiny, I like, you don't get a lot of screen time with
- 44:09him in the entire series, but I just like that he is his own,
- 44:12like, slasher villain and he's just kind of living his own
- 44:15movie. Yeah, He's like completely not
- 44:17involved in any of this stuff for the most part.
- 44:19He had talked to them, but that's about it.
- 44:20Like he comes in and he, he'll, he unties Mary.
- 44:23She has to be untied. She's.
- 44:25Like, OK, yeah, all you had to do was ask.
- 44:26Yeah, can't help the fact that Otis is going to grab her, but.
- 44:30Yeah, she was. She was set up for failure
- 44:32there. Let's see.
- 44:35Throws her into like a It kind of reminds me of the book Cage
- 44:41that Oz has his werewolf time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:45And like, what happens there? Like, people tackle her.
- 44:47Are there like zombies in there too?
- 44:49It kind of feels like that. It's such a like a glimpse.
- 44:52Fine, yeah. Like I don't know what the fuck
- 44:54happened there. I mean, relatively fine, but I
- 44:56mean, yeah. But she's not dead.
- 44:59What you would assume is probably what's going to happen
- 45:01here if zombies attack you. Yeah, baby is cutting Jerry's
- 45:05hair and then his scalp. Yeah.
- 45:07So we're going to cut to the cops.
- 45:09Yeah, the cops found the missing car.
- 45:11They pop the trunk and there's a dead body in the trunk.
- 45:16It felt like they wanted to be found right?
- 45:18Like he put it on the open. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 45:20This was intentional and the Nash and Wydell are supposed to
- 45:25be meeting Don. They find out he's an ex cop so
- 45:28that's why he's allowed to come along and they're going to head
- 45:32to Deadwood together to talk to the Fireflies.
- 45:34Wydell goes around front to talk to Mother Firefly and Nation
- 45:38Dawn go around back to see what they can see out there.
- 45:42Yeah, but what is this? Like these pigs, they travel and
- 45:44pack. So I'm going to go around back.
- 45:46You deal with the guy up front and they're around back and they
- 45:49hear some screaming in a shed. So they go back there and bust
- 45:53open and it's like a little torture chamber.
- 45:55And Nage for all of his posture and is really like Wydell.
- 46:00He's the one, and that just completely falls apart here.
- 46:02Yeah, and because Mother Flyer, Mother Firefly knows what that
- 46:06call means, She shoots Waddell, Otis shoots Dan, and then he
- 46:12makes Nash get on his knees and we get the longest drone shot of
- 46:18all time. I love it man like the first
- 46:22time I watched this I thought my disc froze because like it
- 46:26pauses on there for so long but. I was like, are we, are we just
- 46:30holding on to Walton Goggins for a minute?
- 46:32Yeah, What's happening? I love it.
- 46:35It's actually really effective. Like the thing one of the things
- 46:38that Rob Zombie's good at is he's good at like, music cues.
- 46:41So I'm gonna ask you a question, OK, If we can think back to when
- 46:44we covered Joyride, Yeah. And I remember the alternate
- 46:47ending, which was an alternate Walton Goggins second-half of
- 46:50the movie was that Walton Goggins?
- 46:51That was the cop that just got completely cut out.
- 46:53Same universe. Same universe, same year.
- 46:56Same year. This is what happened.
- 46:58Like in order for half of 1000 Corpses to exist, his story had
- 47:03to be cut out of joyride. Man, they're like, we don't
- 47:06like, we can't have that. Yeah.
- 47:08Like people are going to associate that movie with this
- 47:11movie and I just ain't have. It it's just there's too much.
- 47:14There's too much to to pick a part here.
- 47:16Yeah, Baby goes to Red Hot Pussy Liquors to get booze for their
- 47:21Halloween party. Yes, it's $184.
- 47:24That's a lot of liquor. That they're gonna give that,
- 47:28and Goober's allowed to keep the change.
- 47:31Yeah. I just love that.
- 47:33And I'm like how she keeps calling him Goober.
- 47:35It very much gives the same feeling as Lynnea Cligley in.
- 47:42House or fuck up? Night of the Demons.
- 47:44Night of the Demons. Yeah.
- 47:45Yeah, I could. Yep, for sure.
- 47:47I could see that. The whole you have sour balls.
- 47:51Too bad, but you don't get many blowjobs.
- 47:55So Otis comes downstairs wearing Dawn's face, and he's chanting.
- 47:59Not just that, his whole skin. He's got his chest on too.
- 48:02Yeah. He's got the the rest of them
- 48:04all dressed as rabbits also. Yeah, well, no, I think Jerry is
- 48:07dressed as a Jackass. No, really.
- 48:10Yeah. Fitting.
- 48:10It looks like an ewer like pajama suit.
- 48:14This has got, like, the yarn. OK, yeah.
- 48:18So I think that was like metaphorical meant because he
- 48:20was a Jackass. He is a Jackass, Yeah.
- 48:22Good costume, I think. I mean, he didn't.
- 48:24Deserve this he. Didn't deserve to be.
- 48:26But he also didn't deserve his friends.
- 48:28Yeah. I mean, they, yeah, yeah.
- 48:31All right. So they're going to do their
- 48:33whole ritual, I guess, is they take the victims out to the
- 48:37graveyard and they just like bury them alive in a puddle of a
- 48:43puddle of zombies, I guess. Yeah, that's.
- 48:47That's the best way I could describe.
- 48:49It gist. Yeah.
- 48:50That's all you're getting from us on how this movie ends, is
- 48:53the gist, because we don't know what it's.
- 48:55On I could not explain half this shit.
- 48:57I can tell you Mary escapes momentarily.
- 49:01This is where we get the run Rabbit run from Bill Mosley here
- 49:04and Sherry. Her baby catches up to her and
- 49:07stabs her to death so she doesn't make it.
- 49:09Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's one of ours around here somewhere.
- 49:13We've got assigned. Obviously, yeah, we do.
- 49:17I don't know where it is. Yeah, it's, it's one of these,
- 49:21Yeah, she runs, baby says she wants to chase her this time, so
- 49:25Otis lets her and Mary gets scared about the tale of bred
- 49:33rabbit. Essentially he.
- 49:35Is yeah, the one running right. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:38Yeah, and baby is just kind of like, I got to go out in the
- 49:42garden and yeah, she stabs. Mary Yeah.
- 49:45Meanwhile, Jerry and Denise are in a coffin together and some
- 49:49zombies just come out and attack the casket.
- 49:53But just Jerry. Just Jerry.
- 49:55Yeah, Denise. Is allowed to wander down the
- 49:57tunnel. Yeah, I have no fucking idea
- 50:00what's happening here. Well, the gist.
- 50:03The gist? Denise goes through essentially
- 50:08A catacomb and winds up in a cathedral.
- 50:14She first she encounters another guy, which we assume was a
- 50:18previous victim because he's also dressed as a rabbit or a
- 50:21Jackass, and him and another guy just walk over to her, RIP her
- 50:26costume off and walk away. Yeah.
- 50:29So. So she continues to walk, ends
- 50:32up finding this room where people are eating what looked to
- 50:36me like cereal. Probably.
- 50:38And we get some voice over that reminder of the tale of Doctor
- 50:43Satan, and we see Jerry is being experimented on.
- 50:46And I think we're meant to take it as this is Doctor Satan.
- 50:49That is Doctor Satan, yes, over there, just completely ripping
- 50:52him to shreds. And then we get this mercenary
- 50:56guy. I have no idea what the fuck it
- 50:58is, but he comes out with the big axe and decides to chase
- 51:02Denise. And she runs, and he follows
- 51:05her. And once again, Bill Mosley is
- 51:09in a movie where the climax involves the antagonist cutting
- 51:14down their own tunnel support. This guy is not very good at his
- 51:17job. He swings and misses, gets the
- 51:19door open for her to leave, and then swings and misses enough to
- 51:23like hit the the pole and cause the thing to collapse on
- 51:26himself, killing himself. He's just, yeah, he was
- 51:29terrible. In the morning, Denise comes
- 51:31too, because she was not crushed.
- 51:35There's an opening created, so she climbs out.
- 51:37It's daylight. She walks out to the road and
- 51:40Spalding drives by and she just climbs in.
- 51:42She's like, I know this guy. Yeah.
- 51:45And he's like, good guy, girl. We'll get you some help.
- 51:48You know who's in his backseat? Oldest.
- 51:51Oldest driftwood. Yep.
- 51:52Any steps and then we get out of the end question.
- 51:58For some reason, Devil's Rejects is supposed to pick up
- 52:01immediately and that continuity does not track, but it's fine
- 52:04it's. Fine, because the movie is so
- 52:06good, we allow. Yeah, the movie is so good.
- 52:09And how 1000 corpses is so gisty that we just we accept it.
- 52:15This is basically a dream. At this point like.
- 52:17It was a reality, I guess, yeah. Which is weird because if this
- 52:21is the dream, why does Otis have the worst hair in this than he
- 52:24does in Devils? Yeah, yeah, it doesn't look as
- 52:29good. And this one is pretty bad,
- 52:30Yeah. He's about the most terrifying
- 52:32sideburns or mutton chops. Ever.
- 52:35That's like a staple of Rob Zombie movies.
- 52:37Like there's somebody with disappointing side chops.
- 52:40Lamb chops. Mutton chops.
- 52:42Mutton chops? I don't know man.
- 52:46I but I literally just said it I thought.
- 52:49Lamb chops is like another style, isn't it?
- 52:52Lamb chops is a meat, yeah, or so is mutton a puppet.
- 52:57OK, well, Mutton's also on me. I don't know about the
- 52:59puppetness of. It you don't know mutton.
- 53:04All right, What are you writing this?
- 53:06I'm keeping S7. I'm keeping it at 6:25.
- 53:09Yeah, I mean, I like this movie. It's good.
- 53:12It's a good like you can tell it's it's a Rob Zombie movie.
- 53:17Yeah, if I have more than a gist to talk about with it, I might
- 53:21have more of a rating for it. I, I, I just the ending is kind
- 53:25of a wet down for me a little bit like Doctor Satan is cool.
- 53:28I like that revealed, but they do nothing with it.
- 53:30It's just kind of like a, oh, like like she accidentally
- 53:34stumbled into a different movie and say, oh, what are you doing
- 53:36here? And then it's just like, I don't
- 53:38know what the fuck is happening. Talia, she was sleepy, Sleepy
- 53:43girl. She's on a lot of medicines
- 53:44right now, so she was sleepy. She was running and barking and
- 53:49she likes to chase rabbits. She does, yeah.
- 53:52So I think she she was a fan. Let's say a 7/7.
- 53:56She Evan. She Evan, who's always Ultimate
- 53:59warrior. Oh.
- 54:01That's a tough one because I wanted to pay people for her to
- 54:04relate to in this movie I'm. Going to say baby because we see
- 54:10her tackle and kill Mary and also Zoe is a cat and cats like
- 54:15shoving their butt holes in people's faces.
- 54:17Oh my God, that's a strong argument.
- 54:18I have another argument and it's just, it's tiny because tiny.
- 54:24Arguably the most brutal in the house, but he's also the most
- 54:28chill and just like fucks around by himself and just eats, eats
- 54:32his own food. Zoe is the most chill cat.
- 54:36Like she won't lose her shit a lot of times, but she'll like
- 54:38let you pick her up and like I can like sit her on like, you
- 54:42know, on the couch, like, you know, like a person just like
- 54:45watch TV like a person with me. She's like the most easygoing,
- 54:50tiniest easygoing. But I think you're right with
- 54:53baby. Honestly, I I think that's the
- 54:55right call for sure. OK, OK.
- 54:57Who did you relate to? Who it's a.
- 55:01Tough question. It is a tough question.
- 55:04I think I related to Bill. Bill.
- 55:06Yeah, just just his Billness. What does that mean?
- 55:12I got. AI got some billness to me too.
- 55:15What does that mean? What's the billness?
- 55:19The essence of Bill to be Bill I Bill, therefore I am.
- 55:24OK. What about you?
- 55:33Aside from the murdering, I think I would relate to Mother
- 55:36Firefly because I love Halloween and you're gonna be in my house.
- 55:39You're gonna participate in my Halloween traditions.
- 55:41OK, They're not gonna be murder, but we're gonna have some fun
- 55:45not. This year, maybe next year,
- 55:48yeah, I can see that. OK, OK.
- 55:51Dream sequel? Hard to say because the one we
- 55:54got pretty awesome. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:57But if we were to come up with something different, I would
- 56:00like to see more Doctor Satan's stuff, actually, because they
- 56:02hit him so much and we get such a small amount of Doctor Satan.
- 56:06I feel like having Doctor Satan play a role in the sequel would
- 56:09be kind of cool. OK, I don't know necessarily
- 56:14what we would have him do. Maybe the fireflies are like a
- 56:17product of him after he's done his, like, manipulations, his
- 56:21operations or whatever. So there's something like not
- 56:26quite right about them. They're kind of genetic freaks
- 56:28in a way because of that. So do you want kind of like a
- 56:30prequel situation then? Yeah, let's do a prequel for
- 56:33that. Yeah, like how they are who they
- 56:35are. Maybe let's see the whole
- 56:36cheerleader thing. No, it ends with the
- 56:39cheerleaders. I.
- 56:39Couldn't live without the. Yeah, like, that's just like a
- 56:41nod. Like, ha ha.
- 56:42This is actually happening right before the movie.
- 56:46OK, I can see that. OK, cool.
- 56:50New tagline. New tagline.
- 56:55You get the gist. Yep, OK, I like that.
- 56:59All right, cool, I. Like that, you get the gist and
- 57:02then you just listen to all of Rob Zombie's House of 1000
- 57:05Corpses the song, and then you're like, that's the gist.
- 57:08That is the. Gist What if we just instead of
- 57:10releasing this episode at first, we just put that song.
- 57:14Man, you know. Copyrights.
- 57:16Yeah, yeah. I don't think I'd fly,
- 57:18unfortunately. All right.
- 57:20Well, I think that means it's time for reviews.
- 57:23OK. Yeah.
- 57:24All right. What reviews do we have?
- 57:26Well let's start off with an IMDb review.
- 57:29So I I figured we were both kind of positive on this.
- 57:33So I got a one out of 10. OK, this is when it got
- 57:37released. So April 15th, 2003 is when this
- 57:39review is. This film, written and directed
- 57:42by Rob Zombie, has been sitting on the shelf for years while one
- 57:45studio after another dropped it and refused to release it.
- 57:48Well, Lionsgate finally picked it up and dumped it on our
- 57:51unspecting cineplexes and after first feeling it is obvious why
- 57:55the film had such a hard time getting a release.
- 57:57It is a mess. The entire film is made-up of
- 58:00gruesome gore images and sadistic torture scenes cut as
- 58:03if it were a hardcore music video.
- 58:06I still can't figure out what the plot was and the cast of
- 58:09people playing the hapless victims is so anonymous.
- 58:12I often couldn't figure out which of the two dingbat
- 58:14actresses I was watching getting tortured in this scene or that
- 58:18scene. If you want to watch a film for
- 58:20gore FX or to see creative new ways to torture someone on
- 58:24camera, then this is the film for you.
- 58:26If you want to see at least some small semblance of a storyline
- 58:29with at least one likable character, then avoid this
- 58:31begotten travesty at all costs. A lot of the things that they
- 58:37said are things that we also said, but apparently they are
- 58:40not deal Breakers for us. No, they are for that person.
- 58:43We might be fucked up. Jesse I I like movies like this
- 58:46right here, you know, like quiet.
- 58:49I like it's nice when it like it's a good one, but it's not
- 58:54always necessary for me. Like sometimes I just am cool
- 58:56watching shit go down for like an hour and a half, you know.
- 58:59And I mean, this movie has like a very loose plot, but like it's
- 59:02enough one for me to be invested and everything else.
- 59:06Like the characters, they didn't like the characters.
- 59:08I loved the characters in this and that was what kept me going
- 59:11throughout the entire movie. OK.
- 59:13I mean, like, I guess the the protagonists are really like
- 59:18that great. Like they don't, they don't
- 59:20stand out that much. Rob wasn't trying to write
- 59:23endearing protagonists, he was trying to write interesting
- 59:25antagonists. Yeah, like his whole focus is on
- 59:28them and they still the show, obviously.
- 59:30I think, you know, like it makes sense.
- 59:31It works. Yeah, right.
- 59:33Do we have any listener reviews? We do OK.
- 59:36All right, so over on Instagram we have cube saves, who says
- 59:42feels like a proof of concept for zombies career not as best,
- 59:45but an impressive debut. That is such a good way to
- 59:48explain it. That is, that's actually a
- 59:50really perfect description of this movie.
- 59:53Yeah, it is. And yeah, I mean, I agree.
- 59:56Like it. It's a good first go.
- 59:57I, you know, I think it's a pretty strong debut for sure.
- 1:00:02Over on Blue Sky, we have word Zombie who says it was a pretty
- 1:00:05OK remake slash homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 1:00:09Real standard Rob Zombie stuff. Not a big fan of how the family
- 1:00:12became the heroes of the story. OK movie.
- 1:00:14If you want a movie that looks like a heavy metal music video,
- 1:00:18all that subtracts too. You know, like it's all.
- 1:00:22It's very much influenced by Texas Chainsaw Massacre in
- 1:00:25style. I mean, yeah, the family, I
- 1:00:29wouldn't call them the heroes, but they're definitely the
- 1:00:31people that he wants you to root for.
- 1:00:33Yeah. Like that's who we're falling
- 1:00:35for the most part. And.
- 1:00:38Yeah, that's really who we're gonna be following in the next
- 1:00:40one. Yeah.
- 1:00:41Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:00:43And then yeah, that's about it. Not We had a few other comments,
- 1:00:47not necessarily like reviews, but like, you know, people
- 1:00:50either not liking it or not haven't watched it or loving it,
- 1:00:55but you know, like. Listen y'all, we love to read
- 1:00:57the reviews on this, but if you're not giving us reasons
- 1:01:01why, there's not that for us to talk about.
- 1:01:03Yeah, which, you know, it's so cool that you like it.
- 1:01:05Yeah, yeah, I like, I like knowing that you like it.
- 1:01:08Yeah, absolutely. So don't feel, don't feel bad
- 1:01:10commenting. Yeah, just know that we probably
- 1:01:12won't. Read that.
- 1:01:13Yeah. All right.
- 1:01:15Well, that's it for the reviews. OK, keep an eye on our social
- 1:01:19media for our schedule and our wear to watches.
- 1:01:22Because we haven't put together November schedule yet, I'm not
- 1:01:26entirely sure which one we're doing next, so.
- 1:01:28OK, yeah, we don't. It'll be there.
- 1:01:31It might already be there by the time this episode comes out.
- 1:01:33Yeah, it's just on on the day we are recording this, we do not
- 1:01:36have it all sorted out. So that's where we're at.
