- 0:01Eight oh seven thirteen ten Wi b A on a very busy morning here in
- 0:07Dane County, southern Wisconsin. What a night. It was a lot of
- 0:11damage and probably assessing some things and if you see some issues, we've definitely
- 0:17got a guy who's got some great answers for you. And Andrew Larson course
- 0:20comes to from Larsenom Services website Larsenom Services dot com. That's l A R
- 0:24S O N Home Services dot com delphone number six O eight five three five
- 0:28forty three forty three. That's five three five forty three forty three. Before
- 0:32we start talking about some of the uh wind damage and some other things in
- 0:35the weather. Something I've got to match. I heard some guy who talks
- 0:38really loud and really fast talking about not being able to do a lot in
- 0:41fifteen seconds, but being able to do certain things. And I know there's
- 0:46a younger generation that doesn't always like to pick up phones or talk on phones.
- 0:51When you go to Larsenomservices dot com, you can actually chat right on
- 0:54the website and if you've got to you know, whether you've got a concern
- 0:57about your house you want to quote or an estimate, you can do that
- 1:00right on the website, can't you. Andrew, and by the way,
- 1:02good morning, good morning, good morning. It was an eventful evening.
- 1:08And you know, typically when stuff like this happens, it's it's somewhat centralized.
- 1:19This wasn't this. There was a swath of extremely strong storm storms that
- 1:26skirted across the entire state. And you know, we have a we do
- 1:34have a localized storm team that we can kind of send to areas when they
- 1:38get Really, I wouldn't even know where to send them, is my point.
- 1:40Like it's it's pretty widespread. Not to mention we were already really really
- 1:45busy, but you know, there's hail in certain areas southwestern Wisconsin, Cobb,
- 1:52Livingston, Dodgeville, Platteville, all the way down to Debuke, and
- 1:57I heard Monroe, like Stoughton, reports of hail everywhere. But I think
- 2:01the more damaging issue is the widespread wind and possible tornadoes. Sixty to eighty
- 2:10mile an hour winds, pushes over trees, breaks off limbs, land on
- 2:15roofs. It's and honestly, when it comes to that sort of damage on
- 2:20a house, it's almost it can be devastating, but sometimes it's more almost
- 2:24an annoyance when you have to start dealing with insurance companies to get something fixed
- 2:31where a limb fell in a house or something like that, because they want
- 2:35to they don't want to pay for very much my pont. But look,
- 2:43this is stuff that we deal with all the time. We're not a storm
- 2:46chasing company. But what we're here to do is for want, first off,
- 2:51help our customers. Our people that are already customers, are already part
- 2:55of the Larson family or the Larson Kini Home Services family. If you have
- 3:00damage on your gutters, if you have damage on your roof, please reach
- 3:05out. If it is something where a limb fell on your house and you've
- 3:08got a hole in your roof, please reach out. We will get somebody
- 3:13out there asap to patch and plug that as good as we can so we
- 3:19can mitigate any further damage. And then we're there to walk you through the
- 3:23process of working with your insurance company. That's just it is something that we
- 3:28do. We don't you know, we don't go to other states and chase
- 3:30storms, but boy when it happens here, we want to help our customers
- 3:34and we want to help their neighbors. So the first thing I say when
- 3:38a storm like this hits, unless you've got like unless, I mean,
- 3:40there are going to be people that have holes in their roofs just because of
- 3:44that wind. Limbs are going to fall and they're going to do some crazy
- 3:47damage. We can do our best to get out there right away and do
- 3:53a temporary patch of some sort so we can mitigate or minimize the damage that
- 3:59may come from having an exposed hole in the roof. If we're talking about
- 4:02hail or lifted shingles from the wind, don't panic, don't freak out,
- 4:09you know, don't sign a contingency with the storm company that comes knocking on
- 4:14the door. Take your time, find somebody local that can help you.
- 4:19Because if it's a hail damage, unless it put a hole in your roof,
- 4:24it's not something that's going to start causing any interior damage until further down
- 4:30the road. And that's why when when people's homes get hit with hail,
- 4:33what actually happens is it breaks the fiberglass matting of the shingle, It cracks
- 4:39it. So then over time, what it does is it speeds up the
- 4:43wear process of those shingles. So on all of our asphalt shingles there's rock
- 4:47granules and that's what protects the actual asphalt or fiberglass matting. While if we
- 4:55crack or break that matting, the rocks all start to fall off. Now
- 4:59you've got a little spot on your roof with no granules, excuse me,
- 5:03and you've got crack matting. Now that will start to cause a leak.
- 5:06But it takes time. It's not something that you have to absolutely rush into.
- 5:12You can take your time, have a good, local, reputable company
- 5:16come out. If you're our past customer, obviously give us a call,
- 5:19because that way we can do the roof the exact same way we did before.
- 5:23If you have our gutters and they got wrecked from hail or smashed from
- 5:26a tree falling, call us. We can walk you through the process.
- 5:30There will be people knocking on doors trying to create massive urgency to sign up.
- 5:35Sign up, sign up, so you can get it done. It's
- 5:38usually not that severe that you need to rush into it and get it done
- 5:44immediately, So take your time and please reach out to it. Reach out
- 5:48to us. Today. We've got like we've got the army assembled to answer
- 5:53the falls this morning. That's awful. Number six so eight five three five
- 5:57forty three forty three. That's five three five forty three forty three. Make
- 6:00those phones ring at Larst Home Services this morning. The website Larsenhome Services dot
- 6:04com. That's Larsen L A R. S O N Home Services dot com.
- 6:09And again the telephone number six soh eight five three five forty three forty
- 6:13three. And Andrew, you bring up as always a very interesting perspective and
- 6:16something that maybe a lot of homeowners don't think about, is having hail damage.
- 6:23Is, as you point out, unless it actually pierced through the roof,
- 6:26I'd be more concerned at that point with a metia or something else.
- 6:28But if it was just hail damage, that is something that you have.
- 6:32I've seen hail that has actually went through shingles, like landed in people's living
- 6:38rooms. That's like apocalyptic. That's where a helmet takes a whole nother meaning
- 6:45it sure doesn't. And with that, so if you have that situation,
- 6:48definitely you've got to get get on the phone right now and get that taken
- 6:53care of. If you've got other type of damage, get on the phone
- 6:56with ours home services schedule at appointment. Because I think the thing that people
- 6:59need to real and you highlight this, Andrew is as there are people and
- 7:02they're going to be going door to door and doing other things. They are
- 7:05going to part of their technique of how they how they do things is they
- 7:10create like you've got to do this. Now you've got and they have you
- 7:12sign things and you end up in a contract and all these other things where
- 7:15it's really something that that we talk about the cost of a new roof,
- 7:19We're talking about something here that that's good, if done right, can last
- 7:23lifetime. If done wrong, can end up costing you. You end up
- 7:28paying more upfront and end up paying more in the long run as well.
- 7:30You really do want to take your time. And again, as you point
- 7:33out, Andrew, unless it's unless it's something that's that's you know, when
- 7:38you point out tree limbs and other things, you do want to just kind
- 7:41of have you know, your guys can come out, take a look,
- 7:43give them an assessment, and uh and work from there. It's not a
- 7:46pressure thing. It's not a do it now, do it today thing,
- 7:48sign on the dotted line stuff. Absolutely, And that's what you know.
- 7:54Professional storm chasers and I'm not saying that all professional storm chasers are bad because
- 7:59there's a lot of good ones and there's been a lot of great companies that
- 8:01have come out of just helping people with storm damage. But they're going to
- 8:05try to create a lot of urgency to get you to sign on the dotted
- 8:09line. And the bottom line is have somebody come out. If you have
- 8:13us come out, We're going to inspect your roof, okay, and we're
- 8:16going to do a full inspection, and we're going to show you that inspection
- 8:18seventeen point inspection as well as a video so you can physically see what's up
- 8:22there. We don't want you getting up there, let us do that.
- 8:26So once we show you that inspection and we're going to you know, we're
- 8:30going to see if we can find hail damage, if we can find the
- 8:33wind damage where you're going to need some repairs, and if it's worth filing
- 8:39an insurance claim. Because here's the deal. If people haven't noticed weather patterns
- 8:43have changed. You know, Wisconsin and Minnesota like never really used to be
- 8:50part of what I would call like the hail belt, and it's becoming a
- 8:52little bit. Stuff is moving further north. And I've had many talks with
- 9:00insurance adjusters, insurance companies, insurance agents, and the industry itself is kind
- 9:05of it's changing. Our area has been what I would call undercharged for insurance
- 9:11for many, many, many years because the lack of severe hailstorms. I
- 9:15mean, there's a lot of people on here that are sitting back shaking their
- 9:18head, probably going, yeah, you know, I'm paying like thousand,
- 9:20fifteen hundred dollars a year for homeowners insurance. I got a five hundred dollars
- 9:24deductible, never file a claim. That's changing and those days of having a
- 9:30twelve hundred dollars homeowner's insurance policy with a five hundred dollars deductible to get a
- 9:35full roof those days are leaving. Those are gone, And if you still
- 9:39have that might now might be a really great time to take advantage of it
- 9:43if you really do have damage. Because I've been seeing some letters going out
- 9:48to people where they're changing deductibles. They're actually turning into a percentage of the
- 9:50home value. My father just got one and it was going to a minimum
- 9:56of fifteen hundred dollars deductible or one percent of the value of your home.
- 10:00Well, nobody's homes in the Dane County area are worth one hundred and fifty
- 10:03thousand dollars. They're typically all worth closer to two fifty three hundred is going
- 10:07to be an average price. So now you're talking twenty five hundred to three
- 10:11thousand dollars deductible, and certain things are changing when it comes to insurance.
- 10:16There's there's actual cash value your what your loss is actually worth because they depreciate
- 10:22it. Ninety percent of all policies have then what's called recoverable depreciation. Meaning,
- 10:28Okay, your roof is worth twenty thousand dollars, but it's twenty years
- 10:31old, so we're only going to give you half value. We're going to
- 10:33give you ten thousand minus your new one percent deductible. You're going to get
- 10:37seven grand to replace a twenty thousand dollars roof, but you have recoverable depreciation,
- 10:41so when the work is done, we will give you another ten thousand.
- 10:46Okay, you're still paying your three thousand dollars deductible. The problem is
- 10:48is that most companies are getting rid of the recoverable depreciation if your roof is
- 10:54over a certain age. Because insurance companies have, for lack of better terms,
- 11:00they've just been losing their tail. They've been losing money and they're not
- 11:03in the business to lose money. So I don't want to scare anybody,
- 11:07but things are changing and I want everyone to be cognizant of that, everyone
- 11:11to be aware of what their policy actually reads. And if you don't know,
- 11:16because honestly, who even opens mail from that insurance company. Let's be
- 11:20honest, like that's right into the recycling bin and that's the problem. Oh
- 11:24it's insurance, a whatever, don't care as long as it's not a bill
- 11:26whatever. Know what it says, and we can help you read through that
- 11:31language, because sometimes it's very hard to understand. But we have had some
- 11:37disappointing conversations with customers over the past six months where they had significant damage come
- 11:43to realize they weren't even going to get half what it was going to cost
- 11:46to cover that damage because of their policy changing, and they didn't even know
- 11:50because they probably threw a letter away or didn't read an email. And unfortunately,
- 11:56that's all the insurance companies have to do is send you a letter and
- 12:00it's your job to read it. It's important that you get what you deserve,
- 12:03what you're paying for. And one of the great things too, and
- 12:05working with Andrew and the team. And Andrew mentions his dad, Greg and
- 12:09everybody at Larst Home Services the folks that will take care of you, take
- 12:13care of your home. If you've got questions, if there's something obvious,
- 12:16you definitely want to call Larst Home Services now. If it's something you just
- 12:20wonder about, maybe hail rolled through and you don't know for sure if there
- 12:22was any damage, or if it's something that you can I may want to
- 12:26look and look and work with your insurance. Andrew and the team will work
- 12:28with you to work with your insurance company, no matter what the situation is.
- 12:31Give them a call today. Six oh eight five three five forty three
