Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites the podcast. This is a very
- 0:15Speaker 1: special bonus episode coming out today Thursday. It's me Chad
- 0:19Speaker 1: Milner from the Action Network, my beautiful brother black Jack
- 0:23Speaker 1: Fletcher and and on the phone from America's Heartland, host
- 0:31Speaker 1: of the Pat McAfee show. Two point Oh, Mr Pat McAfee.
- 0:35Speaker 1: What's going on, brother Chad? Thank you so much for
- 0:38Speaker 1: having me, black Jack Fletch can't wait to join you.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And also congratulations on sunny Darren Rovell to the Action Network.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Big things happening over there to honor to join you boys.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Thank you excited black Jack? Uh? Pat, you're having a
- 0:51Speaker 1: massive week. You got your podcast, You've been on ESPN,
- 0:55Speaker 1: you're broadcasting games. How's all this shapen up for you?
- 0:59Speaker 1: How are you feeling about all the game? Just one game? Pat?
- 1:05Speaker 1: How was it having a live mike in front of
- 1:07Speaker 1: you for three hours? It was a wild scene. Honestly,
- 1:11Speaker 1: it was like a dream, you know it was. I
- 1:13Speaker 1: thought when I left the NFL UM I honestly thought
- 1:18Speaker 1: that I could bring a little something to the game
- 1:19Speaker 1: of football, whether it be covering the game, however, I
- 1:23Speaker 1: would do it. Anything like that. And the Sundays if
- 1:26Speaker 1: you watch all My social media has become like a
- 1:29Speaker 1: four the brand Sunday basically where I cover fourth downs
- 1:32Speaker 1: trying to give a little love, you know, s the
- 1:34Speaker 1: d of my fellow peers, punters and kickers. And I
- 1:37Speaker 1: always wanted to call like an actual game with a network.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But I was rejected from the broadcast boot camp twice,
- 1:44Speaker 1: which is what all NFL players get to go to basically,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and that's how all these guys get these jobs. They
- 1:49Speaker 1: get to shake hands with the people at Fox and
- 1:52Speaker 1: ESPN and CBS and NFL network. I was rejected twice
- 1:55Speaker 1: from going to that, so I never knew if it
- 1:57Speaker 1: was gonna happen. And then finally I got the incredible
- 2:00Speaker 1: opportunity through Fox Sports One and I had a last
- 2:03Speaker 1: doing it. I enjoyed it a lot. Shawn Kelly and
- 2:05Speaker 1: a Jhawk tocare me. The Baylor Bears beat the Texas
- 2:09Speaker 1: Tech in the Texas Shootout way in Cliff King's very
- 2:12Speaker 1: last game. It was just a blast. I just had
- 2:14Speaker 1: an absolute blast with it. So hold on, tell me
- 2:17Speaker 1: a little bit more about this boot camp, because this
- 2:19Speaker 1: is this is news to me. Here. Why did they
- 2:21Speaker 1: reject you? You're you're you're a magnetic, electric human being.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Why would they not want you? That means a lot.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Everything you just said made me feel very good deep
- 2:30Speaker 1: down in my loins. I don't know, honestly, I don't know.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I think it's because my Twitter. I would swear on
- 2:37Speaker 1: my Twitter and I was just I was just stand
- 2:40Speaker 1: up to Median. It was just I have no idea why.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And also I was a punter, right I'm not a quarterback.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I'm not. If I was a quarterback right now, I
- 2:48Speaker 1: think I'd probably be calling Monday Night Football if I
- 2:50Speaker 1: had a guest. But I was a punter. So it's
- 2:52Speaker 1: just the way it goes, and I I just kind
- 2:54Speaker 1: of had to fall in line almost in the way
- 2:56Speaker 1: they viewed my position and me as uh. I just
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I got rejected twice though, and it
- 3:03Speaker 1: was I've never been really I never replied for colleges
- 3:07Speaker 1: because I got a scholarship to West Virginia to kick
- 3:10Speaker 1: and that education level very low to get in there,
- 3:12Speaker 1: so I was accepted there. I've never got like two
- 3:15Speaker 1: rejection letters in my life from anything. And then broadcast
- 3:17Speaker 1: boot Camp the NFL, I got two of them. So
- 3:21Speaker 1: it's it's a nearly unprecedented for a punter to come
- 3:25Speaker 1: out of the NFL and develop a media career. How
- 3:30Speaker 1: did you ever think, How did you even think, yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 1: this is what I can get into. How does a
- 3:34Speaker 1: punter break out as a personality. I don't know, to
- 3:38Speaker 1: be honest, I have no idea. I think social media
- 3:39Speaker 1: helps out a lot. I think it's it doesn't matter
- 3:42Speaker 1: the position. It's it's not the it's not the arrow,
- 3:46Speaker 1: it's the Native American, you know what I mean. It's
- 3:48Speaker 1: not the position, it's the human, the human behind it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And um, I was finding a lot of success whenever
- 3:56Speaker 1: I was on the Twitter or on social media. I
- 3:58Speaker 1: got a chance to be on the Bob and Thom's Show,
- 4:00Speaker 1: which was a morning show that syndicated across the country
- 4:03Speaker 1: based out of here in Indianapolis. Have been done for
- 4:05Speaker 1: like thirty years. I sold like ten thousand tickets for
- 4:08Speaker 1: a comedy tour and I think thirty eight seconds. I
- 4:11Speaker 1: was just I was having a lot of success off
- 4:13Speaker 1: the field, but with my foundation and with trying to
- 4:16Speaker 1: make the world laugh a little bit. So I don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: know how it all happened. I just know that it
- 4:21Speaker 1: eventually did happen, and I had enough confidence in myself
- 4:25Speaker 1: that I decided to leave the NFL whenever I wasn't
- 4:28Speaker 1: enjoying it anymore, and I've been having a blast with it.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It could all come crashing down, it could, and maybe
- 4:33Speaker 1: I end up in the Alcoholics Anonymous Football League. Whatever
- 4:37Speaker 1: you're not. You're not an alcoholic. Alcoholics A quitters you.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You and I prefer the same term. I think that's drunk.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I uh, I only do the vitamins now, to be
- 4:48Speaker 1: honest with you, every once in a while, I'll chug
- 4:53Speaker 1: a Bruhi every once in a while, like the good
- 4:55Speaker 1: old days, maybe slam Sym vodka. But I'm all on
- 4:58Speaker 1: the vitamins now. I like the long, I like the vape,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and I like the stuff cones full of vitamins and
- 5:04Speaker 1: just smoke them. Rory to my face on a very
- 5:06Speaker 1: regular pace. Very nice. All right, let's see if we
- 5:09Speaker 1: can break some news on this podcast. Yes or no,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Levian Bell is going to the cults, So it wouldn't
- 5:17Speaker 1: be breaking news on this podcast. It would have been
- 5:19Speaker 1: on my show, like four months ago. I said that
- 5:23Speaker 1: to other people. I have no idea. He does seem
- 5:26Speaker 1: to be very active on all the cold stuff on
- 5:28Speaker 1: social media. He's been doing it since before training camp,
- 5:31Speaker 1: so he's been every post that the NFL would post
- 5:34Speaker 1: on their Instagram, he would comment with like fire or
- 5:37Speaker 1: eyes or something. If it was t Y Hill and
- 5:39Speaker 1: Andrew luck Lin, Terry anything. It was very obvious that
- 5:42Speaker 1: he had his eyes set on the coats since before
- 5:44Speaker 1: this entire missed the entire season drama happened to be honest.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So I think he knows that the cults are a
- 5:50Speaker 1: good situation. There's a hundred and some million dollars in
- 5:53Speaker 1: space in the cap. They got a young quarterball. Oh
- 5:55Speaker 1: not really. I got Andrew luck pe In like the
- 5:57Speaker 1: six year really good quarterback, a good offense like young culture.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think Glavyon bell Is is calculated and he's been
- 6:03Speaker 1: doing this on purpose. But I as a cult span
- 6:06Speaker 1: now would love to see him in the backfield. I think, uh,
- 6:09Speaker 1: it might be like a one year deal, maybe a
- 6:11Speaker 1: two year deal where they pay him a handsome amount
- 6:13Speaker 1: like Darrell Rivas was treated back in the day, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: just kind of bring him in like a mercenary and
- 6:17Speaker 1: see what he's got, because the rapper doesn't look great
- 6:20Speaker 1: right now. But if he gets back into shape like
- 6:21Speaker 1: he was when he was running back. I think I
- 6:23Speaker 1: could help our team e mentally. Okay, all right, I
- 6:27Speaker 1: have a question, Pat. I want to ask you, because
- 6:28Speaker 1: you obviously spent a long time in the NFL locker rooms,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and you know, as people that sit here, we talk
- 6:34Speaker 1: about gambling all the time. Do the guys in the
- 6:37Speaker 1: locker room pay attention to point spreads? Because you'll hear
- 6:40Speaker 1: people talk about it like this team is a seven
- 6:43Speaker 1: point dog, or you know they're they're only favored by
- 6:46Speaker 1: three against this opponent, and you know that's motivation for them.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Does anyone in the locker room give a shit about
- 6:52Speaker 1: the point spread? Do they know what it is that
- 6:53Speaker 1: they care about it? And I mean this when I
- 6:56Speaker 1: say it. Whenever you get in the NFL, it is
- 6:59Speaker 1: and he it in college too. It is drummed in
- 7:02Speaker 1: your head so hard, pounded there, like don't be the
- 7:06Speaker 1: pete rose, don't gamble on it. It's big and now granted,
- 7:09Speaker 1: now that it's becoming legal nationally, I don't know what's
- 7:12Speaker 1: gonna happen federally. I guess it's becoming legal. I don't
- 7:15Speaker 1: know if it will change, but it was really pounded
- 7:18Speaker 1: in our heads, especially I was a kicker in college.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So I mean I had a position where if somebody
- 7:23Speaker 1: really wanted to come funk with me, they had They
- 7:26Speaker 1: had old mafia guys come and speak to us about
- 7:29Speaker 1: how they were cooking games and spreads and stuff. It's
- 7:32Speaker 1: really a scare tactic used and it worked for every
- 7:35Speaker 1: guy I've been around. I mean the NFL, you never
- 7:38Speaker 1: hear a top there. There's so much other stuff to
- 7:40Speaker 1: worry about, the spreads on games or not even talked about.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And to be honest, I didn't even really understand why
- 7:47Speaker 1: people enjoyed gambling whatever I was playing. Oh, all my
- 7:50Speaker 1: friends are degenerates. I grew up around a lot of Italians.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They gamble on games. I didn't really understand, Like, why
- 7:56Speaker 1: are you betting on a game where we don't even
- 7:58Speaker 1: know if we're gonna fucking win, Like we don't even
- 8:00Speaker 1: have a cool who's gonna show up? I have no
- 8:01Speaker 1: idea if I'm gonna have a good game and you're
- 8:03Speaker 1: gambling that I'm going to I think it's stupid, But
- 8:05Speaker 1: then once I retired, boy, I fucking love it. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: don't know how anybody wants in the game without I
- 8:12Speaker 1: don't have anybody watching this game without money on anything.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It's the best, the greatest thing on earth. What do
- 8:17Speaker 1: you love about it? It's just you have a horse
- 8:19Speaker 1: in the race, and every single fucking race it's like
- 8:21Speaker 1: I'm watching some no game in the middle of nowhere,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you know, all of a sudden, I'm just pulling really
- 8:26Speaker 1: hard for a quarterback to get hot because we need points, bro,
- 8:29Speaker 1: we need some points with the quickness. It's just it
- 8:31Speaker 1: makes every game interesting. You you have a horse in
- 8:35Speaker 1: the race, and it feels and this sounds crazy, but
- 8:38Speaker 1: when I was a putter in the league, like I
- 8:40Speaker 1: had like I felt like, okay, I have like I'm watching.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I had a front row seat to the Indianapolis Colts
- 8:45Speaker 1: for eight years straight, Super Bowl, the undefeated year until
- 8:50Speaker 1: we decided to lose. I was watching games and it
- 8:52Speaker 1: was like I had a front row seat. I was
- 8:54Speaker 1: the biggest fan of the Cults in history. Now Grant,
- 8:56Speaker 1: every once in a while, I have to go out there,
- 8:57Speaker 1: send the ball to the other team, kind of walk
- 8:58Speaker 1: back off the field, do my But it feels as
- 9:01Speaker 1: if I have like an actual you know, I have
- 9:03Speaker 1: skin in the game. And that's what gambling is. And
- 9:06Speaker 1: I very much understand why everybody loves it. I understand
- 9:09Speaker 1: why it's a huge business and right now, to be honest,
- 9:12Speaker 1: it's my favorite. It's one of my favorite things to do.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite things to do. That's awesome
- 9:16Speaker 1: that I want to play a little word association with you.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna say a name and you just tell me
- 9:21Speaker 1: the first thing that comes to mind. Okay, do I
- 9:24Speaker 1: have to say like one word or can it be
- 9:26Speaker 1: whatever pops in your head? Ryan, I think he was
- 9:32Speaker 1: just an unwarranted, arrogant human. That's where I think I
- 9:35Speaker 1: think he he was. He just I think he had
- 9:40Speaker 1: in his head what he had to act like to
- 9:41Speaker 1: be a good GM, and then he just kind of
- 9:44Speaker 1: took it too far. Now do I think he maybe
- 9:46Speaker 1: learned from it? I have no idea. But I did
- 9:49Speaker 1: not enjoy him, and I don't think a lot of
- 9:51Speaker 1: people did. As the GM of the Colts, Bruce Arians,
- 9:55Speaker 1: Oh gee, dog, that guy's the best. That guy is
- 9:58Speaker 1: the absolute best. I I was very lucky to be
- 10:01Speaker 1: there for the year that he finally got to be well.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And I mean it happened because Chuck was battling leukemia.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But Bruce Arians has never given like a head coach,
- 10:09Speaker 1: really opportunity before that. The guy has been touching since
- 10:12Speaker 1: like with Bear Bryant, he was coaching, and that year,
- 10:15Speaker 1: whenever Chuck was battling leukemia, Bruce Arians kind of just
- 10:17Speaker 1: got handed the reins of the team there and watching
- 10:20Speaker 1: him kind of adapt and adjust and find his way
- 10:23Speaker 1: was really cool in a in a very very difficult
- 10:26Speaker 1: circumstance because one of his best friends was going through
- 10:28Speaker 1: leukemia battle too at the same time. I I love
- 10:30Speaker 1: Bruce Arians. I don't think he's great on the mic, though.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I think they need either get him a new booth
- 10:35Speaker 1: to be in or they need to let him just
- 10:37Speaker 1: be wide open a little bit more. I don't think
- 10:39Speaker 1: he's he's enjoying it, but he is one of the
- 10:41Speaker 1: coolest dudes I've ever played for. Bart Scott Louk, Who
- 10:48Speaker 1: the fuck it is? That is the last thing Bart
- 10:51Speaker 1: Scott said to me in person. Uh. And the coach
- 10:53Speaker 1: Jets game at the Indianapolis when I think the Jets
- 10:57Speaker 1: hit a game winning field goal against US and why
- 11:00Speaker 1: old card or playoffs, I almost got my ass met
- 11:03Speaker 1: by Bart Scott and that's Uh. I think he's I
- 11:06Speaker 1: think he was a good leader for a long time.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I just I almost got my ass kicked by him.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Why what what did you do that? Mom? Kick yours
- 11:14Speaker 1: long story chat? I mean there was after a field
- 11:17Speaker 1: goal minitary or an extra point? Is a field goal
- 11:18Speaker 1: or an extra point? Minitary kicks extra point. Bart Scott's
- 11:22Speaker 1: walking act like from he was playing defensive end, I
- 11:26Speaker 1: believe at the time for the field goal block. He's
- 11:28Speaker 1: walking back to his sideline after the field goes goes through,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and he's about to just walk directly through Adam Vinitary
- 11:35Speaker 1: like he's about to hit Adam Vinyitary, and I'm standing
- 11:38Speaker 1: there watching it. So I push him right out of
- 11:41Speaker 1: the way, and obviously that's causes him to turn around
- 11:46Speaker 1: for a second. So he turns around and looks at me,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and there's an altercation there between he and I where
- 11:52Speaker 1: I can't back down because all this is on film,
- 11:54Speaker 1: so we're gonna be watching this in the meeting room
- 11:56Speaker 1: the next day. I kind of did something out of
- 11:58Speaker 1: the ordinary. I pushed him so he wouldn't hit Minitary
- 12:01Speaker 1: because Vinny's a legend, He's All of Famer. We had
- 12:04Speaker 1: a back and forth. Ryan Dean, one of our offensive lineman,
- 12:07Speaker 1: had to be like, what the fun does that have about?
- 12:08Speaker 1: I have no idea. And then literally the following kickoff
- 12:13Speaker 1: there I think it was Antonio Crimarti brings it out
- 12:15Speaker 1: of the end zone all the way down their sideline.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I make a tackle, I spall out on their sideline
- 12:21Speaker 1: and I'm literally laying at the feet of Bart Scott
- 12:23Speaker 1: and it's He's like, well, who the fuck it is?
- 12:28Speaker 1: And I just kind of like, I like on all fours,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I sturry off of their sideline, basically, it felt like,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and get back into the onto the field over to
- 12:36Speaker 1: the sideline. I told video, I'm like, you're never gonna
- 12:37Speaker 1: guess who I layered it in front of on the
- 12:39Speaker 1: other sid I'm gonna shop my pants. I almost have
- 12:41Speaker 1: shipped my pants right now. Vinny almost gonna ask Arts
- 12:43Speaker 1: Carter with there. That is fucking classic. I didn't realize
- 12:46Speaker 1: the second half of that story. That is too funny.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Oh thanks, Jed. I appreciate that. It's just I end
- 12:52Speaker 1: up in uh, I end up been very ridiculous situations, Jed.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I mean we're talking my life is littered with just
- 12:59Speaker 1: ridiculous mention. Now, I think that's now. You mentioned ridiculous
- 13:03Speaker 1: events and and I want to I want to mention
- 13:06Speaker 1: one story that I've heard you tell before. Among the
- 13:09Speaker 1: many things you do, stand up comedy, the Pat McAfee show,
- 13:14Speaker 1: all the stuff you've got going on, you're also part
- 13:16Speaker 1: of w W E, S n x T pre shows.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And I believe, if I'm not mistaken, you've got a
- 13:22Speaker 1: wrestling ring out in your barn, right, Yeah, can you
- 13:25Speaker 1: tell us a story about how you got that ring? Thanks,
- 13:28Speaker 1: fletch Um. I was Chad. You probably don't know anything
- 13:33Speaker 1: about this, and I'm excited for you to really learn
- 13:35Speaker 1: a lot about me here. So I wasn't supposed to
- 13:39Speaker 1: have money, Chad. Okay, I wasn't supposed to be the Yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was not supposed to have money. It was people,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and I think I was probably one of them when
- 13:48Speaker 1: I was growing up or in college, and you hear
- 13:50Speaker 1: about these athletes who just make ridiculous purchases and ship
- 13:53Speaker 1: like that, and you're like, oh, you know, act like
- 13:56Speaker 1: you've been there before. It's hard to act like you've
- 13:58Speaker 1: been there before if you've never been there before. If
- 14:00Speaker 1: you look at your bank account and you see like
- 14:02Speaker 1: six figures in there, whatever you and your family have
- 14:05Speaker 1: had like three figures in there for your entire life.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It's really hard not to just be like, yo, I
- 14:11Speaker 1: would like that, that and that and I Apparently one
- 14:14Speaker 1: evening when I was very blacked out, I made a
- 14:17Speaker 1: a childhood and nostalgia purchase because I walked up to
- 14:20Speaker 1: my get my mail one time. It was year I
- 14:24Speaker 1: forget what year in the league. It was early in
- 14:26Speaker 1: my career. I walked out to give my mail, classic,
- 14:29Speaker 1: just wearing a robe, and I had a little bit
- 14:31Speaker 1: of a long driveway because I got a little house
- 14:33Speaker 1: with some land out here in Indiana. And I go
- 14:36Speaker 1: to open the mailbox and an eighteen wheler shows up
- 14:38Speaker 1: out front, and guy pops out of the truck and
- 14:41Speaker 1: he's got like a sweat band on jeans that are
- 14:44Speaker 1: kind of like, uh, what's that called whitewah, but whitewash,
- 14:48Speaker 1: white wash, stone washing like stone washing jeans on like
- 14:53Speaker 1: just classic. And he goes out, where do you want
- 14:56Speaker 1: me to put this thing? Is this question? And I
- 14:59Speaker 1: go like, this is an eighteen wheeler stopped in front
- 15:02Speaker 1: of my house. I live in a residential area. This
- 15:03Speaker 1: is a weird situation. The neighbors have to be looking at,
- 15:06Speaker 1: like what the fox is going on here, So I say,
- 15:08Speaker 1: what is it? He goes a professional wrestling ring. I've
- 15:13Speaker 1: never delivered one to a home before. Only is where
- 15:17Speaker 1: do you want me to put this thing? I was like,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think you're at the wrong house, buddy, And he
- 15:21Speaker 1: pulls out the receipt for the wrestling ring and it's
- 15:24Speaker 1: his small business. He votes like one wrestling ring every
- 15:26Speaker 1: five months and then he delivers it. It's kind of
- 15:28Speaker 1: his boat, you know, you Pat motherfucking McAfee. And I
- 15:34Speaker 1: was like, yeah, that's me. He said, well, I didn't
- 15:37Speaker 1: know if this order was real or not, but we
- 15:38Speaker 1: don't get a lot of orders, so I definitely took
- 15:40Speaker 1: your money and made this. Uh where do you want
- 15:43Speaker 1: to put? I was like, I guess, just put it
- 15:44Speaker 1: in the barn. And I found out that day, um
- 15:49Speaker 1: that yeah, I bought a wrestling ring. I guess one
- 15:51Speaker 1: latent when I had more clue and just on the internet. Somehow,
- 15:56Speaker 1: in the annals of the Internet, I found this guy
- 15:58Speaker 1: who's a one man off oration building wrestling rings in
- 16:01Speaker 1: Kentucky and he drove that thing four hours to my
- 16:04Speaker 1: house and I had no clue. He said the order
- 16:07Speaker 1: was like like five months ago. I'm like, how the
- 16:09Speaker 1: funk am I supposed to remember this? It was fine?
- 16:12Speaker 1: So I have no idea that wrestling ring is still there.
- 16:15Speaker 1: In my ring, it's provided about minutes of entertainment to
- 16:18Speaker 1: me and my friends. It's things like falling on concrete.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's a very I think I should have upgraded a
- 16:25Speaker 1: little bit. That's on me. I went a little cheap
- 16:27Speaker 1: on the ring. So if I come out to Indianapolis,
- 16:30Speaker 1: can we sunk around the ring? Yeah? You can, for sure.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm a little bit older. The ring is. It was
- 16:38Speaker 1: a bad ring, and I think if I if I
- 16:40Speaker 1: had to judge Pat motherfucking McAfee for one thing, it
- 16:44Speaker 1: was that he definitely cheaped out on the purchase. I
- 16:47Speaker 1: think there could have been an upgrade with a little
- 16:49Speaker 1: bit more padding, hopefully, because that thing hurt like hell.
- 16:52Speaker 1: But you come out to Indie Fletch, you can go
- 16:53Speaker 1: off the top rope if you want. You can do
- 16:55Speaker 1: whatever that god damn pleases you. What you are getting
- 16:59Speaker 1: into rest sling, tell me about what you're doing and wrestling.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't know so right now. It's just it's one
- 17:07Speaker 1: of those things where I've been a fan forever, you know,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I grew up in the attitude there, which was the
- 17:10Speaker 1: greatest era of wrestling and history, and I've just followed
- 17:14Speaker 1: along with it. I enjoyed the fact that it's a
- 17:15Speaker 1: male soap opera with comedy entertainment some action in their
- 17:19Speaker 1: drama too. I mean, it's it's everything, and I've just
- 17:22Speaker 1: I've been a fan for so long and Triple H
- 17:25Speaker 1: and Michael Cole reach out to me to to kind
- 17:28Speaker 1: of come do some work on an NXT pre show,
- 17:31Speaker 1: which is their panel basically, it's their pre show. I
- 17:34Speaker 1: did some of that. The conversations have continued to evolve
- 17:37Speaker 1: and now we're just kind of seeing where it goes.
- 17:40Speaker 1: They they've they've created such an incredible business and uh,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm just trying to learn from it. Kind of get
- 17:47Speaker 1: in there and we'll see what happens. I would like
- 17:49Speaker 1: to be the United States Champion, though basically the president
- 17:52Speaker 1: at some point US Champion. Amazing. So so now that
- 17:58Speaker 1: you're involved with w you a little bit and you're
- 18:01Speaker 1: involved in gambling. Now having that insight into the company,
- 18:05Speaker 1: you're gonna a bet heavy on Wrestling Ania this year.
- 18:09Speaker 1: They wouldn't tell me anyways. By the way, the w
- 18:12Speaker 1: W E is very impressive at keeping things inside. The
- 18:16Speaker 1: only things that get out are the things that they
- 18:18Speaker 1: want out. It's such a small group of people making
- 18:20Speaker 1: all the decisions that anything that it's it's really a
- 18:24Speaker 1: family operation there. I mean I man a couple of times,
- 18:28Speaker 1: but it's legitimately a fiperation. The people making the decisions
- 18:32Speaker 1: and all that stuff. It's a tight group in there,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and it's it's really an impressive model. In two thousand eighteen,
- 18:37Speaker 1: when everything seems to get leaked, they can figure it
- 18:40Speaker 1: all out. So will I gamble on w W E No,
- 18:44Speaker 1: But I also wouldn't know. I have some follow ups here. First,
- 18:49Speaker 1: how is Vince McMahon in person? It was, it was
- 18:54Speaker 1: it was a very wild, surreal moment, you know, because
- 18:57Speaker 1: you see him on the TV and you you you
- 19:00Speaker 1: know that this man has created this monster enterprise publicly
- 19:04Speaker 1: traded two million subscribers a month pan. That's just the
- 19:09Speaker 1: beginning of their business. Just shook my inn incident Hello,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and then walked away. It was I was like one
- 19:17Speaker 1: point five seconds I think it was. I think it
- 19:19Speaker 1: was maybe a two second interaction Hello, and then he
- 19:22Speaker 1: just walked away, And I was like, oh ship, that
- 19:24Speaker 1: just happened he had a great suit on, and then
- 19:27Speaker 1: always a great suit. And then this last time he
- 19:30Speaker 1: was in the same restaurant as me, and it was
- 19:32Speaker 1: another one second interaction a loop. So I I think
- 19:36Speaker 1: maybe at some point I'll be able to uh to
- 19:39Speaker 1: really chat with the man. I doubt it. You know.
- 19:41Speaker 1: The really interesting note about Innseentt Man. His neighbor is
- 19:44Speaker 1: Chad Newman in Grenni's Connecticut. Actually like me, I'm surprised
- 19:51Speaker 1: he doesn't. He treats me the same way he treats you.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But I'm surprised that, like you're a brand name who's
- 19:59Speaker 1: coming into to their brand, I'm surprised he wasn't like,
- 20:03Speaker 1: great to see you. Were so excited. You're a board.
- 20:05Speaker 1: We think we can do big things together. Like I
- 20:08Speaker 1: think there'd be some wining and dining there. So I'm
- 20:12Speaker 1: Triple H is the guy who's my boss. Triple H
- 20:16Speaker 1: my boss because he runs an XT, he runs the
- 20:19Speaker 1: Orlando Performance Center. I'm pretty sure he's that I directly
- 20:23Speaker 1: report to, and he is very nice. There's a guy
- 20:26Speaker 1: that people have said I looked like for a long time,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but a man who I've looked up to forever is
- 20:31Speaker 1: now I get to chat with him every time a
- 20:33Speaker 1: guy get text messages from him. It's a very interesting thing.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But he and Michael Cole are the people I directly
- 20:39Speaker 1: uh communicate with. I'm not even sure and those I exist.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I think he probably asked one time, who's the guy
- 20:45Speaker 1: of the orts? So, so, what do you what do
- 20:48Speaker 1: you call Triple as? You call him Triple H Hunter, Paul?
- 20:51Speaker 1: What do you what do you call him? Sir? He
- 20:52Speaker 1: has nicknames. He has fort or five nicknames, and you
- 20:55Speaker 1: just have to keep up with it because they'll be
- 20:56Speaker 1: telling a story about him saying something and they'll call
- 21:00Speaker 1: him by like trips another name. He has forty five
- 21:04Speaker 1: different names. I just you just because he has his
- 21:07Speaker 1: all of his w W E names. Then he has
- 21:09Speaker 1: his actual his actual name, and then there's other nicknames
- 21:13Speaker 1: that have just been garnered through like thirty years now,
- 21:16Speaker 1: traveling on the road with people. It's he does have
- 21:18Speaker 1: forty five different names. I call him Mr Rah That's
- 21:21Speaker 1: what I Hey, there's another name. There's another name we
- 21:28Speaker 1: should have we should have asked about for your name association.
- 21:32Speaker 1: This might be the most interesting guy in the cult franchise.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Jim rcy Hey brother. He's the best man. I love
- 21:40Speaker 1: Jim Rcy, Jim Mercy. And now granted this happens with
- 21:45Speaker 1: every particular job. Like the owner of the company is
- 21:48Speaker 1: the one giving you the money, so like that guy
- 21:51Speaker 1: is affording you or girl that guy or girl, that's
- 21:54Speaker 1: very That was terrible at me. I was directly referencing
- 21:56Speaker 1: Jim Mercy there. That guy was huge in my life. Obviously,
- 22:01Speaker 1: whenever I got arrested. Um, I think he was one
- 22:04Speaker 1: of the reasons why Wolpen cuts. I think whenever my
- 22:08Speaker 1: contract was up, Ryan Grigson definitely wanted to get rid
- 22:11Speaker 1: of me, and he said, I, no, actively he's not leaving.
- 22:15Speaker 1: He is just Uh. He's a guy who was a
- 22:17Speaker 1: fan of mine and I got a chance to chat
- 22:19Speaker 1: with when not a lot of people did. He would
- 22:21Speaker 1: come to practices and kind of hang out with the
- 22:25Speaker 1: scouting side of things or with his little his little
- 22:28Speaker 1: team of people around him. He would come up and
- 22:30Speaker 1: talk to me in Vinitary every single time, and I
- 22:33Speaker 1: I grew quite a relationship with that man who has
- 22:35Speaker 1: lived him and John Mellencamp of wrote a hundred songs.
- 22:39Speaker 1: They got mccaym just waiting to release one day I uh,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I feel like with gambling becoming more and more prevalent
- 22:46Speaker 1: in the NFL, eventually figuring out what it's gonna do,
- 22:49Speaker 1: Jim Murs will be a guy. And I say, there's
- 22:52Speaker 1: only not knowing anything about him other than sort of
- 22:55Speaker 1: what I've read is a guy who would be full
- 22:57Speaker 1: on proponent of figuring out a way to make gambling
- 23:00Speaker 1: in the NFL. So it's I think Jerry Jones is
- 23:04Speaker 1: gonna be the guy. He's already invested in Draft kings
- 23:06Speaker 1: pretty heavily. I think Jerry Jones is probably the guy
- 23:09Speaker 1: he's gonna really push forward hard. But I think I
- 23:12Speaker 1: think Jim Mersey's I mean, this guy is like a Rocks.
- 23:15Speaker 1: You talk to him as if you're talking to like
- 23:17Speaker 1: a creative rock star. So like if you would listen
- 23:20Speaker 1: to like Tom Petty interviews or anything like that, like
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's who you're talking to whenever you're talking to Jim Marcy.
- 23:25Speaker 1: So I think Jim Rcy will definitely embrace the gambling thing,
- 23:29Speaker 1: but I think he'll do it in his own way.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I don't think it'll be like, uh, the first team
- 23:33Speaker 1: out doing something. I think it'll be something where they'll
- 23:36Speaker 1: sit back and figure out how to do it. He's
- 23:38Speaker 1: he's got a creative mind. The dude is. I'm telling you,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you have a five minute conversation with him. It's a
- 23:43Speaker 1: it's an hour long conversation with him because he's rolling
- 23:46Speaker 1: and it's just it is. It's an impressive little mind.
- 23:49Speaker 1: He's got up there. Now. Patty, you're you're as close
- 23:51Speaker 1: to the Colts as as any former player. You were
- 23:54Speaker 1: there a couple of weeks ago, dressed up as an
- 23:55Speaker 1: old man kicking field goals. It's an awesome video. Um,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I think the cults right now plus three hundred to
- 24:02Speaker 1: win that division this year? Are you taking those odds?
- 24:05Speaker 1: The Houston Texans are so good right now. The Houston Texans.
- 24:09Speaker 1: This is the this is the interesting thing here, Frank Raich.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Early in the season they were one in two. The
- 24:13Speaker 1: Houston Texans were oh and three. I believe throwaway decision
- 24:18Speaker 1: over time fourth in two forty seconds, left own side
- 24:23Speaker 1: throwaway decision by Frank Raig. Fuck it, we're not gonna
- 24:25Speaker 1: We're not gonna go for a tie. We're gonna go
- 24:27Speaker 1: for a winner of loss. They end up losing right there.
- 24:30Speaker 1: That starts to Houston Texans eight game win streak. That
- 24:33Speaker 1: turns around the Colts season as well. Pretty much. They
- 24:36Speaker 1: start getting on board with Frank, they start buying in
- 24:38Speaker 1: a little bit more. That throwaway decision right there could
- 24:41Speaker 1: be something that's big in the end, because I mean
- 24:43Speaker 1: it's a collision course with the Texans to see if
- 24:45Speaker 1: they can stumble and if the Colts can stay hot.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I would not take the plus three and right now,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I mean, I like, I will put money on there,
- 24:51Speaker 1: because like I said, I'm not supposed to have money.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That seems like a bet I should put us, but
- 24:55Speaker 1: I'm not hot. I think in the I think next year,
- 24:59Speaker 1: I think culture gonna be very good. Darius Leonard is
- 25:02Speaker 1: a maniac and it's his nickname, and he actually is
- 25:04Speaker 1: on the defense. They got a lot of money to
- 25:06Speaker 1: spend with and they've got a young culture, so I
- 25:08Speaker 1: think yet next year maybe, but that throwaway decision is
- 25:11Speaker 1: gonna be one that we look back upon. I think
- 25:12Speaker 1: later in the season is gonna be like this was
- 25:14Speaker 1: an interesting This was a very interesting decision because it's
- 25:18Speaker 1: spurred the Houston Texans wind streak and it also could
- 25:21Speaker 1: have motivated the Poet's locker room to get behind Frank
- 25:24Speaker 1: reikmore so, I think that throwaway decisions would be a
- 25:26Speaker 1: big deal later settle a settle debate for me and
- 25:29Speaker 1: black Jack. So this will be on the podcast. This
- 25:31Speaker 1: this podcast coming out Thursday. Then black Jack and I
- 25:34Speaker 1: do our favorite podcast on Friday, and we have been
- 25:37Speaker 1: debating the Cults as four point favorites on the road
- 25:43Speaker 1: at Jacksonville. He loves the Colts. I want to pass.
- 25:48Speaker 1: We have a million reasons why Jacksonville just seems like
- 25:52Speaker 1: there's so much drama happening. There's so much, and drama
- 25:56Speaker 1: is never good. I mean, the teams that win seemed
- 26:00Speaker 1: to keep everything inside the locker room. That's why I like,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I think the Steelers are a really good team. I
- 26:04Speaker 1: think they're I think they'll never get back to the
- 26:06Speaker 1: Big One because all the drama that just seems to
- 26:09Speaker 1: emulate from Big Ben in that offense drama. It's hard
- 26:12Speaker 1: enough to win games in the NFL without any of it,
- 26:15Speaker 1: especially when there's a lot of emotion too. That defense
- 26:18Speaker 1: down there in jackson has got a lot of emotion.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Blake Portals getting bench might lead them to maybe play
- 26:23Speaker 1: a little better because I think that Blake Portal is
- 26:25Speaker 1: getting a huge contract was kind of uh, maybe a
- 26:28Speaker 1: wedge in that team. It might be something that started
- 26:30Speaker 1: to drive them apart after them potentially being like a
- 26:34Speaker 1: really big team in the a f C. I just
- 26:37Speaker 1: I think the cults are so hot right now. It's
- 26:39Speaker 1: a division game. I took the money line Montitute twelve.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Uh four and a half seems to be like that's
- 26:46Speaker 1: something they could think. Yeah, I mean, to me, the
- 26:48Speaker 1: Jaguars look like they've quit. I mean they look like
- 26:50Speaker 1: they're done. And and yeah, I mean Bortles is bench
- 26:54Speaker 1: this week, but it's Cody Kessler man like, it's I'm sorry,
- 26:58Speaker 1: no way a lock. Actually to me, now that I
- 27:01Speaker 1: think about it, the minus four is it four and
- 27:03Speaker 1: a half or four four four? That seems like a luck?
- 27:06Speaker 1: Thank you, Pat. That's just interesting to me. Do you
- 27:10Speaker 1: feel like there's a handicap for emotion, like you know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: as a player, you look at that and see that
- 27:16Speaker 1: that's all I bet on. By the way, I picked
- 27:20Speaker 1: the most wild reasons to like. For instance, of both
- 27:24Speaker 1: last game, Reggie Wayne was going into the Ring of honor.
- 27:29Speaker 1: There was no way in fucking hell that t Y
- 27:32Speaker 1: Hilton wasn't gonna ball out Andrew Muck wasn't gonna ball out.
- 27:35Speaker 1: There was no way in hell that wasn't gonna happen
- 27:37Speaker 1: with all the O G s. That's all I bet on,
- 27:39Speaker 1: to be honest, And I don't know how because this
- 27:42Speaker 1: is the difference everybody because fantasy football, everybody thinks that
- 27:46Speaker 1: the NFL is maddened. Everybody thinks there's these these these
- 27:49Speaker 1: people aren't humans that they don't give more effort without
- 27:53Speaker 1: even knowing it, or give less effort without even knowing
- 27:55Speaker 1: it for certain reasons. You look at that Raiders even
- 27:57Speaker 1: looks like they've completely fucking quit. Have no idea how
- 28:01Speaker 1: anybody could bet on them for the rest of the
- 28:02Speaker 1: year because you have no idea who's showing up. They
- 28:05Speaker 1: want people literally just quitting and leaving. They don't even
- 28:08Speaker 1: want to play there anymore good players. Interesting about the
- 28:12Speaker 1: Raiders and the Jaguars, that is fucking bullshit. I did
- 28:15Speaker 1: not want to bet the Raider. I didn't want to
- 28:17Speaker 1: bet the Raiders. I didn't want to bet the Jaguars.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I just didn't want to bet on the favorites in
- 28:21Speaker 1: those games. But here's my much, here's my point. When
- 28:26Speaker 1: you're playing in the NFL, and you're saying, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: Reggie Wayne is there and all the o g s
- 28:31Speaker 1: for the culture there, and they're gonna play great. After
- 28:34Speaker 1: the first quarter, you've been hitting each other for fifteen minutes.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Doesn't that sort of extra kick of emotion wear away
- 28:40Speaker 1: and you're just playing the game and executing a game plan. No, see,
- 28:44Speaker 1: I think I think it's all about the week in advance.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Everything is dialed in a little bit more. Not Granted,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I never hit anybody for a quarter, so I mean
- 28:52Speaker 1: I never had that moment where I was like, yeah,
- 28:54Speaker 1: hit but yeah, well no, no I pushed them. It
- 28:58Speaker 1: wasn't really, but but it is, Mike Tyson sai. Everybody
- 29:01Speaker 1: has a plan until you get punched in the face.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Luckily for me happened. So, but it's the whole week
- 29:06Speaker 1: leading up to it. It's just the culture, the environment
- 29:08Speaker 1: of the practice, the meetings, everything is like, Yo, the
- 29:11Speaker 1: o g s are coming in this weekend. They probably
- 29:13Speaker 1: stopped by practice earlier. And those are guys that Andrew
- 29:17Speaker 1: luck and t Y Hilton leaned upon earlier in their career.
- 29:19Speaker 1: They're really tight with them. That just seemed like for me,
- 29:23Speaker 1: that type of emotion, I don't think you can, you
- 29:25Speaker 1: can second guess. And I think that was something I
- 29:28Speaker 1: realized too when when I was playing in the league,
- 29:30Speaker 1: when things were happening either at other stadiums or our stadiums,
- 29:33Speaker 1: when we tended to do better or worse. I just
- 29:36Speaker 1: I feel like I bet on the humans playing more
- 29:39Speaker 1: so than the team's playing. And and that's I don't
- 29:42Speaker 1: know if it's good or not. I've seemed to win,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know if it'll wear off. But
- 29:45Speaker 1: I think emotion is a is a huge part of
- 29:47Speaker 1: all of it. I agree with you, Pat. I always
- 29:50Speaker 1: tell this nerd over here that when I bet, I
- 29:52Speaker 1: bet based on feel. That's how I live my life
- 29:55Speaker 1: based on feel. Because you could sit here with your spreadsheets,
- 29:59Speaker 1: you're analyst, tikes all you want, you can crumple them up,
- 30:02Speaker 1: shove them up your ass. At the end of the day,
- 30:04Speaker 1: it's people doing people things, and that's how you got
- 30:06Speaker 1: a bet. Am I right. That's will tell you what
- 30:10Speaker 1: have happened. They won't tell you what will happen. And
- 30:13Speaker 1: I think that is unless something is center, I don't
- 30:17Speaker 1: want to hear about it because that means it's happened
- 30:19Speaker 1: differently in the past, and that's honestly how I filled
- 30:22Speaker 1: with the old status thing. I love it, Patty, alright,
- 30:26Speaker 1: so I'm basically against you both, but that's cool. Hey,
- 30:28Speaker 1: uh pat magazine Listen, you're killing it, brother. Thank you
