- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Are the Colts in the Lamar Jackson business?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Coming up on this Wednesday edition of NFL Now, We'll
- 0:25Speaker 1: tell you with Shane Steiken just said moments ago, Welcome
- 0:29Speaker 1: to the show from our newsroom in Los Angeles. My
- 0:31Speaker 1: name is ANDREWS Ciciliano. We're presented today by Ike. Also
- 0:34Speaker 1: coming up Emmanuel Forbes from Mississippi State, one of the
- 0:37Speaker 1: best corners in the draft. We start this hour with
- 0:40Speaker 1: one of the best quarterbacks in the draft, and that
- 0:43Speaker 1: would be Bryce Young, who on Tuesday was in Carolina
- 0:48Speaker 1: to meet with Josh McCown and Frank Reich and the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Panthers they hold the first overall pick in the draft.
- 0:54Speaker 1: His frequent flyer mild tour continues today. If Bryce Young
- 0:59Speaker 1: meets with the Panthers on Tuesday, it only makes sense
- 1:03Speaker 1: that he moves on Dick Houston to meet with the Texans.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport is our NFL network inside or all of
- 1:12Speaker 1: this Ian with people grumbling that maybe the Texans don't
- 1:15Speaker 1: take a quarterback at number two and just throw our
- 1:17Speaker 1: whole draft at all. The mock drafts out the window,
- 1:20Speaker 1: but for now they're meeting with the quarterbacks, including this one. Well,
- 1:25Speaker 1: if the Texans did in fact end up not taking
- 1:27Speaker 1: the quarterback at two, they would certainly ruin everyone's mock
- 1:30Speaker 1: draft and they would be unable to get the coveted
- 1:34Speaker 1: thirty one for thirty one usually thirty two, but obviously
- 1:37Speaker 1: the Dolphins would have them this year. So yeah, that'll
- 1:39Speaker 1: ruin some mock drafts. I would say this, there's no
- 1:42Speaker 1: other position that is as important as the quarterback. The
- 1:45Speaker 1: Texans know they got to get it right. They know
- 1:48Speaker 1: they have to find the right guy to be the
- 1:49Speaker 1: quarterback at the future, and they're going through the process
- 1:51Speaker 1: now to see if one of those guys is in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the draft. Likely it is, but it's the draft and
- 1:57Speaker 1: we will never know until that name is called. So yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 1: as you mentioned Bryce Young visiting the Carolina Panthers yesterday,
- 2:04Speaker 1: visiting the Houston Texans today, they're going to do their
- 2:06Speaker 1: due diligence visits at all of that, and they actually
- 2:09Speaker 1: have done some already, but Levis already some others. They're
- 2:15Speaker 1: going to do that in all the top quarterbacks in
- 2:16Speaker 1: the draft and then get to draft week and know
- 2:19Speaker 1: if the Carolina Panthers take CJ. Strout or if they
- 2:22Speaker 1: take Bryce Young, how are the Texans going to pursue
- 2:25Speaker 1: part of the process for sure, certainly not the only
- 2:28Speaker 1: in person visit for the Houston Texans, but a very
- 2:32Speaker 1: important one as well. Listen, it's interesting etan with these
- 2:35Speaker 1: quarterback visits because let's say the top four guys are
- 2:38Speaker 1: all meeting with the top ten teams, but we also
- 2:41Speaker 1: have a group of teams lower in the first round
- 2:44Speaker 1: of the nineteen in the twenties, let's say, or the
- 2:46Speaker 1: Bucks at nineteen that are also a meeting with the quarterbacks,
- 2:49Speaker 1: hoping one of them gets there. Like the Bucks and
- 2:51Speaker 1: Will Levis. Yeah, that's an interesting meeting going on today.
- 2:56Speaker 1: The Bucks having a top thirty visit for Kentucky quarterback
- 2:59Speaker 1: Will Levis. He's also visiting the Atlanta Focus tomorrow. That
- 3:02Speaker 1: makes sense. They're in the top ten, Desmond ridden in
- 3:05Speaker 1: as their starter right now. The Bucks could be potentially
- 3:09Speaker 1: plotting a potential move up, potential potential. They could be
- 3:12Speaker 1: plotting a move up from number eighteen to wherever they
- 3:16Speaker 1: feel like they need to get to if will Levis
- 3:19Speaker 1: slides a little bit to them, or they could be
- 3:21Speaker 1: plotting a much bigger move up into the top ten.
- 3:24Speaker 1: There's nothing more important than getting your quarterback, nothing more
- 3:28Speaker 1: important than getting your quarterback in the future. The Bucks
- 3:30Speaker 1: know this as well as anyone. They had Tom Brady
- 3:32Speaker 1: for years led them to his Super Bowl. If they
- 3:35Speaker 1: believe will Levis is the guy, it could be a
- 3:37Speaker 1: short jump, it could be a big jump into the
- 3:40Speaker 1: top ten. They now become a team to watch for
- 3:42Speaker 1: when it comes to the quarterback position. All right, so
- 3:44Speaker 1: they're nineteen, right ahead of them. The Lions, who have
- 3:46Speaker 1: a quarterback, who have Jared Goff, are sitting there at eighteen.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Granted they're also on the top ten Detroits at six.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Which quarterback are they meeting with? The Lions are meeting
- 3:57Speaker 1: today with Hendon Hooker, the Tennessee quarterback who's become a
- 4:00Speaker 1: little bit of a darling in this draft. Obviously coming
- 4:03Speaker 1: off a torn acl sounds like his health is doing
- 4:05Speaker 1: really well. An a plus leader, and there's a lot
- 4:09Speaker 1: to like it. I would be at this point, Andrew's
- 4:12Speaker 1: surprised if he is not a first round pick. And
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's not just the Detroit Lions, you're interested among the
- 4:19Speaker 1: other teams that Hendon Hooker schedule to meet with the
- 4:22Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers that we were just talking about that
- 4:25Speaker 1: is likely going to be tomorrow. And then the Las
- 4:28Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders, who have number seven, also have number thirty eight,
- 4:31Speaker 1: So potentially if it's for Hooker, there would be a
- 4:34Speaker 1: team to trade up into the back end of the
- 4:37Speaker 1: first round and take their quarterback. Interesting, Hendon Hooker getting
- 4:40Speaker 1: a lot of visits here remains to be seen if
- 4:44Speaker 1: we have four or five quarterbacks taken night number one.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Thank you in Rapp Report, our NFL Network Insider the
- 4:51Speaker 1: culture sitting here at four Shane Steikin of the podium
- 4:54Speaker 1: moments to go listen to this. As you just addressed
- 4:59Speaker 1: you guys asking a lot of time zero in on
- 5:01Speaker 1: these quarterbacks in this draft. There is outside a lot
- 5:04Speaker 1: of the has been a lot mores about what other
- 5:07Speaker 1: options you might look at you, Lamar Jackson brothers. Is
- 5:10Speaker 1: it fair say you're more focused on the draft than
- 5:13Speaker 1: any other possibilities? Right? Yeah, We're focus on the draft,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and I'm a focus on the guys that are in
- 5:17Speaker 1: the building right now. That's that's that's where we're at
- 5:20Speaker 1: right Ian's still here. Um. That was Shane Styke in
- 5:22Speaker 1: moments ago. Yeah, I was trying to say goodbye, just
- 5:24Speaker 1: got lost in my head where we were in the rundown. Hi, Ian,
- 5:27Speaker 1: glad you're here trying to make sense what Shane Styken
- 5:29Speaker 1: said because the reporter kind of gave him an out.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Hey do you want Lamar Jackson or or do you
- 5:34Speaker 1: just want I'm talking about the draft. Yeah, I noticed that.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I wasn't really gonna say anything, but yeah, not maybe
- 5:41Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame of questions for coaches, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: he's tried. The message was, yeah, it is what it is.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The message is still pretty clear for Shane Steke and
- 5:48Speaker 1: the look. He could say what he wants. He could
- 5:51Speaker 1: have said, we're focused on Mars. The reality is they
- 5:55Speaker 1: have not yet made a move for Lamar Jackson, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: the actions speak a lot louder than his words, although
- 6:00Speaker 1: his words are we are focused on the draft. Remember
- 6:02Speaker 1: they had the number four overall pick. They're taking a
- 6:04Speaker 1: look at all the quarterbacks. Presumably that is another prime
- 6:08Speaker 1: quarterback location, so that is one important factor. Then they
- 6:12Speaker 1: focused on the players in their building, and they finally
- 6:14Speaker 1: do have some players in their building doing off season conditioning.
- 6:17Speaker 1: That is what Stike and meant anyway, the actions are
- 6:20Speaker 1: louder because you've got to think that if they were
- 6:23Speaker 1: going to make a move for Lamar Jackson, they would
- 6:25Speaker 1: have done it already. They would have done it when
- 6:26Speaker 1: they had salary cap space, they would have done it
- 6:28Speaker 1: earlier in the office seasons. So there's some certainty going
- 6:31Speaker 1: forward into the draft. I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm
- 6:34Speaker 1: just saying it's looking more and more likely that Lamar
- 6:37Speaker 1: Jackson is going to be the quarterback for the Ravens
- 6:39Speaker 1: in some form or fashion, in some form of contract
- 6:43Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty three seasons. You know what they
- 6:45Speaker 1: could also do hypothetically here is take something other than
- 6:48Speaker 1: a quarterback. Let's say a defensive player at four, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: then after the draft or even Friday, right, go sign
- 6:56Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, do an offer sheet, and then they're not
- 6:58Speaker 1: giving up four. Then they're giving up the picks in
- 7:00Speaker 1: twenty four and twenty five. Well but then, okay, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: then that's true. But then let's say the Ravens match
- 7:06Speaker 1: and then they just don't have a quarterback, right, and
- 7:08Speaker 1: then I have a quarterback, but they do have Gardner
- 7:10Speaker 1: Minshew and his fantastic fan one way or the other.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Thank you, Idan Rappaport. Actually I am saying goodbye now,
- 7:15Speaker 1: at least for this segment. Thank you, sir. All right,
- 7:18Speaker 1: say goodbye because we go to den and look at
- 7:20Speaker 1: the Broncos. We hit the roster reset button on them.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Last season twenty twenty two was one to forget for
- 7:26Speaker 1: the Broncos. They hope this year is one to remember.
- 7:29Speaker 1: With their brand new head coach Sean Payton, who was
- 7:32Speaker 1: able to get in the building yesterday and talk to
- 7:34Speaker 1: his team and set a path towards Week one, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: brand new head coach get to talk to the team
- 7:43Speaker 1: without a lot of draft capital here to put pieces around.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Russell Wilson, James Palmer is in Denver. Brian Baldinger joins
- 7:51Speaker 1: us as well. Baldy, great to have you here, James,
- 7:54Speaker 1: had you do this. They're not picking until sixty seven
- 7:59Speaker 1: here and then sixty eight back to back picks, but
- 8:01Speaker 1: they're gonna have to wait a while. They are gonna
- 8:04Speaker 1: have to wait. They only have five picks total. And
- 8:06Speaker 1: it has been a conversation in that building of my
- 8:08Speaker 1: understanding for some time now as they're going through their
- 8:11Speaker 1: draft preparation, how do we add more draft picks. Now,
- 8:14Speaker 1: a lot of people believe that it would have been
- 8:16Speaker 1: trading one of their top wide receivers in Courtland Suttner
- 8:18Speaker 1: Jerry Judy and collecting some draft capital in return. Now,
- 8:21Speaker 1: Sean Payton at the owner's meeting said that was not
- 8:23Speaker 1: going to happen. He's not trading either one. We'll see
- 8:26Speaker 1: if anybody wows them between now and the draft that
- 8:28Speaker 1: something could still happen to add some draft capital. They
- 8:31Speaker 1: can still just move back in some capacity and still
- 8:34Speaker 1: add some picks in that manner as well. But you
- 8:37Speaker 1: look at what they did in free agency early on.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Those were the musts really that they needed to fill
- 8:42Speaker 1: in Sean Payton's mind, and that was going out and
- 8:44Speaker 1: getting Mike McGlinchey and Ben Power's physical guys. On the
- 8:48Speaker 1: offensive line, Baldy was a big need and must that
- 8:50Speaker 1: they wanted to have, And they really are still looking
- 8:53Speaker 1: at that offensive line now in the draft, specifically at
- 8:55Speaker 1: the center position. They Lloyd Cushionberry is there now, but
- 8:58Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if they found a center in
- 9:00Speaker 1: the third, fourth round that they really like. The other
- 9:03Speaker 1: two positions Baldy they're really looking at and have had
- 9:05Speaker 1: guys in on visits cornerback to add some depth there.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Most teams say you can't have enough corners. They need
- 9:10Speaker 1: some help there, and then edge rusher. They've had an
- 9:13Speaker 1: inability to stay healthy there, specifically with Randy Gregory, a
- 9:16Speaker 1: big free agent that they brought in this past season.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Baron Browning has a lot of ability and has had
- 9:21Speaker 1: flashes at times. Nick Mendo a year ago they picked
- 9:24Speaker 1: in the second round. But getting to the quarterback up
- 9:26Speaker 1: front their front seven is definitely something that they're focused
- 9:29Speaker 1: on quite a bit right now, Baldi in those draft meetings.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But when you're picking them, talking about the trenches, you
- 9:33Speaker 1: don't know who's volunteer the trenches. James and so I
- 9:36Speaker 1: think the additions of McGlinchey and Powers, I mean you
- 9:40Speaker 1: hope that you could plug and play those guys and
- 9:42Speaker 1: you improve the offensive line. I mean it all starts
- 9:45Speaker 1: up front. But then you know, to get Javonte back,
- 9:48Speaker 1: to get Tim Patrick back, that helps a great deal.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You talk about the center position, this is a good
- 9:53Speaker 1: draft for centers, and you might find a Ricky Stromberg.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I'm not going to throw every center's name out there,
- 9:59Speaker 1: but you might find some of these guys in the
- 10:01Speaker 1: third round, and if they could do that and strike
- 10:04Speaker 1: gold and up depth position, that might that might be
- 10:08Speaker 1: a good Day's a good second day for the Denver
- 10:12Speaker 1: Broncos if they can do that. Because I think the
- 10:15Speaker 1: way that Sean Payton likes to run the ball, the
- 10:18Speaker 1: way he likes to protect his quarterback, it's going to
- 10:20Speaker 1: start up front. And that process started in free agency.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And they're not the only team with only five picks.
- 10:26Speaker 1: For example, the Vikings have only five, the Ravens have
- 10:28Speaker 1: only five. Eric to Costa, for example, on the podium
- 10:31Speaker 1: last week, said his goal in Baltimore is to get
- 10:34Speaker 1: more than five picks somehow, and I'm sure they're thinking
- 10:37Speaker 1: the same thing there in Denver. The Chiefs are in
- 10:39Speaker 1: a really cool position here. James was transition to them.
- 10:43Speaker 1: They are picking at thirty one, which means when they
- 10:47Speaker 1: make that selection at home, they can get all the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Chiefs fans cheering. Obviously, they won the Lombardi here as well.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It's not the only way though they reset this roster.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Give me a Kansas City offseason perspective as they transition
- 10:59Speaker 1: here to try to win it again, and they have
- 11:02Speaker 1: double the picks that the Denver Broncos have They have
- 11:04Speaker 1: ten selections and all in this draft, and we saw
- 11:07Speaker 1: what they did with all of their rookies and the
- 11:09Speaker 1: roles that they played in this last Super Bowl run
- 11:11Speaker 1: that they had. But I do think what we have
- 11:14Speaker 1: seen once again the formula that is in place in
- 11:17Speaker 1: Kansas City, and Baldy's gonna love this because we're talking
- 11:19Speaker 1: offensive line again. Protecting Patrick Mahomes is what they do
- 11:23Speaker 1: and that's where they spend their money and where they
- 11:25Speaker 1: spend their draft capital. You saw with Creed Humphrey and
- 11:28Speaker 1: Tray Smith, the two probably biggest free agent signings that
- 11:31Speaker 1: they have made at the very beginning of free agency.
- 11:34Speaker 1: With Brett Beach running the show. There is Joe Tuoney
- 11:37Speaker 1: who came in and they brought him in a free
- 11:39Speaker 1: agency and he's changed that offensive line. And now they
- 11:41Speaker 1: do it with Juwan Taylor who is going to step
- 11:43Speaker 1: in and Andy Reid believes knows this system, knows the
- 11:46Speaker 1: terminology should hit the ground running. They look at the
- 11:49Speaker 1: wide receiver position more towards the draft. Can they go
- 11:52Speaker 1: get a Jalen Eyatt to be the speedster to go
- 11:54Speaker 1: along with Sky Moore and Knarius Tony, who they believe
- 11:57Speaker 1: Tony should Baldy be their number one. They think they
- 12:00Speaker 1: can do so many different things with him. And then
- 12:02Speaker 1: Skymore takes another jump. But what we're seeing in the
- 12:04Speaker 1: way things are built in Kansas City is if you
- 12:06Speaker 1: protect Patrick Mahomes, he will make plays. And that's where
- 12:10Speaker 1: the Chiefs are going to continue to make investments. Baldi
- 12:14Speaker 1: that and you know they look at the holes and
- 12:16Speaker 1: the roster. So you lose Zeus Orlando Brown junior via
- 12:20Speaker 1: free agency to Cincinnati. You go get Juwan Taylor, who
- 12:23Speaker 1: was a priced free agent for a lot of teams,
- 12:26Speaker 1: has been a right tackle in Jacksville. Yes, they want
- 12:28Speaker 1: him to play him at left tackle. See how that goes.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But they bring back Lucas Niang, who was a third
- 12:33Speaker 1: round pick has started for the Chiefs, and you solidify
- 12:36Speaker 1: the wall. And then you know you go and say, okay,
- 12:39Speaker 1: we're not going to bring Frank Clark back at least
- 12:41Speaker 1: right now. We'll go get Charles a Meta who who
- 12:43Speaker 1: just keeps getting better and better. You kind of go
- 12:45Speaker 1: to San Francisco rebuild yourself. Then you go hit the
- 12:48Speaker 1: free agent market, and that's what Charles has done. And
- 12:51Speaker 1: so I look at those two holes and they've plugged him,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and now you go, Okay, ten picks in the draft.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Now we can go add talent and young talent to
- 12:59Speaker 1: our roster and we'll see, you know, I mean Isaiah
- 13:02Speaker 1: Pacheco didn't start the season, but he finished the season.
- 13:05Speaker 1: We saw all the depth in the secondary year ago
- 13:08Speaker 1: that they drafted four guys into secondary all played a
- 13:11Speaker 1: prominent role in the road to winning the Super Bowl.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So I feel like you're in great shape to go
- 13:17Speaker 1: out and you know, do the proverbial go get the
- 13:20Speaker 1: best guys regardless of the position, because I feel like
- 13:22Speaker 1: the major holes have been plugged in free agency and
- 13:25Speaker 1: it's pretty clean here the picking end of the first
- 13:27Speaker 1: round thirty one, and the second round sixty three, and
- 13:31Speaker 1: the third round there at ninety five, that is ended
- 13:33Speaker 1: the third round before all those compensatory picks. They had one,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but it eventually went to New York in the de
- 13:38Speaker 1: Vegas all part of the Darren Waller trade. Thank you,
- 13:40Speaker 1: James Palmer, Thank you Brian Balding, you appreciate you. Coming
- 13:44Speaker 1: up next, what about Aaron Rodgers. We're fifteen days away.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Do we have an answer? Unlikely, but we'll tell you
- 13:52Speaker 1: what Mark Murphy said yesterday while waiting for a bus,
- 14:04Speaker 1: fifteen is away from the draft. Here, fifteen days away
- 14:07Speaker 1: from what we hope will be some kind of conclusion
- 14:10Speaker 1: to this Aaron Rodgers story, but the deal still is
- 14:14Speaker 1: not done. Mark Murphy is the Packers team president. Yesterday,
- 14:18Speaker 1: he met with the media while standing in front of
- 14:20Speaker 1: a bus before getting on said bus for a five
- 14:23Speaker 1: day tour around Wisconsin. Is the ball essentially in their court?
- 14:28Speaker 1: You've said this is what we want either ABC or
- 14:31Speaker 1: D and you're you're kind of waiting for them to Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I can't really get into that. I mean, you know,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I know Brian and Joe have been talking, and are
- 14:40Speaker 1: you expecting a lot of questions about this during this
- 14:43Speaker 1: tour and how do you plan on handling those? I
- 14:46Speaker 1: do anticipate question questions, and I anticipate saying that there
- 14:52Speaker 1: is no update it is. It is interesting, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 1: fifteen years ago or in similar situation, do you need
- 15:02Speaker 1: a deal to get done before the draft or are
- 15:04Speaker 1: you guys okay going into the summer if that's what
- 15:06Speaker 1: it takes. I know, again, that's something you know Brian
- 15:11Speaker 1: is working on, and now I've been actively involved, and yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 1: there's really nothing. What lessons did you take from that
- 15:22Speaker 1: experience on your first tailgate tour in your first year
- 15:24Speaker 1: in charge that you can apply now as you're dealing
- 15:27Speaker 1: with this. Well, I'm really glad that Aaron Rodgers turned
- 15:33Speaker 1: out to be such a good quarterback, and I'm hopeful
- 15:36Speaker 1: that Jordan Love turns out to be a similar quarterback.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Waiting for Mark Murphy to say, there's nothing to see here,
- 15:42Speaker 1: please disperse, There's nothing to see here. So, as luck
- 15:46Speaker 1: would have it, today, Brian Baldinger is in Florim Park.
- 15:50Speaker 1: He is in the Jets building doing you know, some
- 15:53Speaker 1: content for for Jets Socials and the Jets website. Judy
- 15:57Speaker 1: was there last week. They're both with me live from
- 16:00Speaker 1: the Tri State area, right, Baldy? Have you seen you're there?
- 16:04Speaker 1: Have you have you seen Aaron Rodgers? Are they printing jerseys?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Can you smell Ayahuascas? Anything going on? The only twelve
- 16:12Speaker 1: jersey I see in this chess facility is Joe Namis.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I haven't seen Aaron Rodgers. Nobody else has no ghost
- 16:20Speaker 1: helicopters flying over top, nothing like that, but everybody is
- 16:24Speaker 1: anticipating his arrival. Okay, nothing to see Judy. Nothing to
- 16:28Speaker 1: report other than you know, Joe Douglas grabbing a mic
- 16:31Speaker 1: in some radio event over the weekend. Is there anything
- 16:34Speaker 1: going on there that would suggest this is going to happen?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Like now, look, let's not dismiss the Joe Douglas saying
- 16:42Speaker 1: he's going to be here. That's the most definitive thing
- 16:44Speaker 1: anybody has said throughout this whole process. So I'm going
- 16:47Speaker 1: with Joe Douglas saying he's going to be here. No,
- 16:50Speaker 1: there is nothing new to report. They are trying to
- 16:54Speaker 1: work out a deal. Again. I go back to the
- 16:56Speaker 1: fact that we were told this was meant when we
- 16:59Speaker 1: were in Arizona at and talking two weeks ago. We
- 17:03Speaker 1: were told closer to the draft, so you know, put
- 17:06Speaker 1: your feet up and get comfortable, and that's where we are.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It doesn't mean anything is wrong. It just means they're
- 17:12Speaker 1: trying to figure it out. Brian Goudcust at that meeting
- 17:15Speaker 1: in Arizona said they did not necessarily have to have
- 17:19Speaker 1: the thirteenth overall pick, which is the Jets first rounder.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So that was a little bit something, but there's no
- 17:25Speaker 1: reason to think that there is a problem here. And
- 17:27Speaker 1: in the meantime that Jets have gone about their business,
- 17:30Speaker 1: you know, putting pieces in place so that everything is
- 17:32Speaker 1: ready to go when Aaron Rodgers gets here. Obviously, Alan
- 17:35Speaker 1: Lazard has come Micole Hartman has come around. And the
- 17:38Speaker 1: next question I think as we head into the draft,
- 17:41Speaker 1: as we get ready for the draft, is where do
- 17:44Speaker 1: they go in the draft and will they address the
- 17:46Speaker 1: offensive line? Because I think that's probably the next big
- 17:49Speaker 1: question right tackle. If you assume that you know McKay
- 17:53Speaker 1: Beckton is going to fight for the job with Dwayne
- 17:55Speaker 1: Brown at left tackle, what do they do at right tackle?
- 17:58Speaker 1: And to me, if one of those top tackles is
- 18:01Speaker 1: still on the board when they pick, assuming that they're
- 18:03Speaker 1: going to pick at thirteen, I think the big question
- 18:06Speaker 1: is do they go in that direction? And as you
- 18:09Speaker 1: have raised Andrew, do they try to pick up another
- 18:12Speaker 1: wide receiver between now and the draft? Yeah, and the
- 18:15Speaker 1: McKay beckton fifth year option deadline is coming up, all
- 18:18Speaker 1: those guys from that twenty twenty draft coming up in
- 18:22Speaker 1: less than three weeks now, right after the draft. Baldi,
- 18:25Speaker 1: from where you sit, what do you think of the
- 18:26Speaker 1: roster right now? Well, I think it's you know, greatly
- 18:30Speaker 1: improved from a year ago at this time before, they
- 18:33Speaker 1: drafted Breece Hall and Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson and
- 18:37Speaker 1: you know, really struck gold in a lot of different areas.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And you know they've they've added some pieces this offseason,
- 18:43Speaker 1: obviously bringing in a Chuck Clark, you know, at safety,
- 18:46Speaker 1: it's a real need position for them. I think they've
- 18:49Speaker 1: gotten better there. You know, they've got the forty and
- 18:52Speaker 1: forty third picks as well. One of those was in
- 18:54Speaker 1: the trade for with Elijah Moore to Cleveland, so they've
- 18:58Speaker 1: got added another second round pick. So you know, they
- 19:01Speaker 1: got three of the top forty three picks in this draft.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And I think they've they feel like, you know, talent wise,
- 19:09Speaker 1: adding McCole and adding Al Lazard along with you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson and the other guys they have here, that
- 19:16Speaker 1: Y're in pretty good shape. I mean, I think tight
- 19:18Speaker 1: end is a position of need. It's a great draft
- 19:20Speaker 1: for tight ends no matter where you want to go.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It's a good draft for offensive tackles. It's a deep
- 19:26Speaker 1: draft for edge rushers, and so there's plenty of opportunities
- 19:29Speaker 1: to continue to build and add to this roster and
- 19:32Speaker 1: the defense that finished the season, ranked in the top
- 19:35Speaker 1: ten in the league. Judy, let's get back to the
- 19:37Speaker 1: quarterback thing. We were talking Zach Wilson last hour. You
- 19:40Speaker 1: have a good piece right now at NFL dot Com
- 19:42Speaker 1: about kind of the limbo that he is in. Are
- 19:44Speaker 1: we overlooking the Tim Boyle move? And I say that
- 19:48Speaker 1: with not an ounce of sarcasm. Yeah, it's an interesting
- 19:53Speaker 1: wrinkle here because Zach Wilson. They have made very clear
- 19:56Speaker 1: that Zach Wilson is going to be the backup quarterback.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But Tim Boyle was signed, and part of the reason
- 20:02Speaker 1: he was signed is he's got great familiar charity with
- 20:05Speaker 1: this offense. He is close to Aaron Rodgers. He is
- 20:09Speaker 1: close to Nathaniel Hackett. He's known Nathaniel Hackett, I think
- 20:12Speaker 1: since he was in high school. Boyle was in high school,
- 20:14Speaker 1: not Hackett, So he knows this offense. And if we
- 20:18Speaker 1: assume that Aaron Rodgers is maybe not going to be
- 20:22Speaker 1: on the field at least in the early part of OTA's,
- 20:26Speaker 1: Boyle can run the offense and that's going to be
- 20:28Speaker 1: really important. Again, they have said Zach Wilson is going
- 20:32Speaker 1: to be the backup, not Tim Boyle. But you've got
- 20:34Speaker 1: to assume that he's going to at least push Wilson,
- 20:37Speaker 1: and the other thing that he can do is he
- 20:39Speaker 1: can sort of be the bridge between Aaron Rodgers and
- 20:43Speaker 1: Nate Hackett and the other players and sort of explain
- 20:45Speaker 1: how they want the offense to look. I don't think
- 20:49Speaker 1: they want Boyle to have to play at all. I
- 20:52Speaker 1: don't think they want to have Wilson play for that matter.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But I do think that that adds an interesting dynamic
- 20:58Speaker 1: to the quarterback room, which already is going to have
- 21:00Speaker 1: an interesting dynamic because Zach Wilson is going to be
- 21:03Speaker 1: sitting in there with, as we talked about last hour,
- 21:06Speaker 1: his quarterbacking idol, Aaron Rodgers exactly. Tim Boyle did start
- 21:10Speaker 1: three games for the Lions a couple of years ago.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Brian Baldinger is live in Flora Park. Baldy, I know
- 21:14Speaker 1: there's a like to go out the door there and
- 21:16Speaker 1: turn right. There's a kitchen right around the corner. If
- 21:19Speaker 1: by chance you bumped Aaron Rodgers in the kitchen reheating
- 21:21Speaker 1: lunch or maybe making some tea, let us know, please,
- 21:25Speaker 1: I'll take a selfie and Santia Andrew put it up
- 21:27Speaker 1: on the air. Everybody should follow Baldy on all the
- 21:30Speaker 1: social platforms. He is the world's most interesting former offensive lineman.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Thank you Baldy, Thank you Judy. Let's get to Rhet
- 21:38Speaker 1: Lewis's mock draft. We had fun with this yesterday, Bryce
- 21:41Speaker 1: Young Wan CJ. Stroud to I mean Bejean Robinson at
- 21:46Speaker 1: ten was certainly a fun one. You know. Rhett slept
- 21:50Speaker 1: here yesterday. He didn't leave the building. I believe he
- 21:53Speaker 1: hosted six different shows, including Path to the Draft. Hello,
- 22:00Speaker 1: fellow draft enthusiast, welcome back here inside the studio a
- 22:03Speaker 1: Path to the Draft alongside my friends and NFL scouts Stanel,
- 22:06Speaker 1: Jeremiah and Bucky brooksign Rett Lewis, And it's that time
- 22:09Speaker 1: of year, guys where we're kind of talking about these
- 22:10Speaker 1: mop drafts and we're starting to hear some new names
- 22:13Speaker 1: into the conversation. It certainly feels like towards the end
- 22:16Speaker 1: of the first round twenty five through thirty one in
- 22:18Speaker 1: this year's draft, it could be some real wildcards in there.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Let's start with some names that we're hearing getting some
- 22:24Speaker 1: of that buzz that could find their way into the
- 22:27Speaker 1: first round that maybe haven't been talked about a whole
- 22:30Speaker 1: bunch DJ's they're a player like that that fits a
- 22:31Speaker 1: bill for you. Yeah. For me, I'm gonna go to
- 22:33Speaker 1: TCU and I'm gonna go to Steve A. Villa, who's
- 22:35Speaker 1: an interior offensive lineman who's played guard. He's played center
- 22:39Speaker 1: in the past as well, which teams have gone back
- 22:41Speaker 1: in time and looked at his center snaps, which are excellent.
- 22:44Speaker 1: He's somebody that is a plug and play starter. He
- 22:47Speaker 1: matches up and whatever scheme you want to do. You
- 22:49Speaker 1: want to be an outside zone team, he can really move.
- 22:51Speaker 1: You want to be a gap scheme and come downhill
- 22:53Speaker 1: and mall people, he gives you that as well. So
- 22:56Speaker 1: that's one when you start looking at team specific needs
- 22:58Speaker 1: there at the end of the first round, those are
- 23:00Speaker 1: good rosters. This is a plug and play guy right there. Bucky,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you got one yea have about Joe Teman from Wisconsin
- 23:07Speaker 1: being a center that could come in and deliver immediate
- 23:10Speaker 1: results right away. This is a guy that is solid
- 23:13Speaker 1: at the point of attack, you know pedigree coming from Wisconsin,
- 23:17Speaker 1: he understands how to play the game. Did you see
- 23:19Speaker 1: him leading around the corner, does a great job of
- 23:21Speaker 1: playing with his neighbors, meaning he understand how to use
- 23:24Speaker 1: body up when he's compromised. This is a solid player,
- 23:27Speaker 1: a smart player wants to be a plug and play
- 23:30Speaker 1: starter from day one. Oh, let's double down on the Badgers,
- 23:32Speaker 1: shall we. Bucky Brooks stay right there in Madison in
- 23:35Speaker 1: the Big Ten and talk interior defensive lineman Keanu Benton,
- 23:40Speaker 1: guy who've had a really nice week down the Senior
- 23:42Speaker 1: Bowl Inmobile and really felt like he came out of
- 23:45Speaker 1: a shelf this year for the Badgers on the interior
- 23:47Speaker 1: of that defensive line was coached really well, found some
- 23:50Speaker 1: real nice production on the inside of the interesting story.
- 23:54Speaker 1: This was a guy that you know, not only did
- 23:56Speaker 1: he not necessarily play get ready to play college football,
- 23:58Speaker 1: he almost didn't go to college at all, and now
- 24:01Speaker 1: could be finding himself into the back end of the
- 24:04Speaker 1: first round. Is one of those wild card picks. That's
- 24:07Speaker 1: why I love kind of trying to forecast where these
- 24:09Speaker 1: guys are gonna end up. And there's so much that
- 24:10Speaker 1: can happen towards the back end. This is kind of
- 24:13Speaker 1: what are we calling this cold strange territory. Now I
- 24:15Speaker 1: would happen after you did, Keanu Betton. You might say
- 24:18Speaker 1: it's gonna be an excellent adventure. But that's neither there.
- 24:21Speaker 1: There you go all right, speed, I don't know we'll
- 24:24Speaker 1: get there, okay, but be sure to join us for
- 24:27Speaker 1: much more conversations just like this, all the way up
- 24:29Speaker 1: to the draft weekday, six pm Eastern time, right here
- 24:33Speaker 1: on path to the draft. Honestly surprised DJ didn't say
- 24:36Speaker 1: the new john Wick trailer is dropping Keanu there, No, okay,
- 24:41Speaker 1: just saying more Tom foolery and hijinks coming up. Coming up.
- 24:44Speaker 1: That guy who is mister pick six, we're gonna get
- 24:48Speaker 1: to know Emmanuel Forbes. He has set to join us
- 24:51Speaker 1: the Mississippi State corner. If you don't know, you should know,
- 24:55Speaker 1: and you will know. Next Emmanue is picked off the
- 25:09Speaker 1: Amanuel form at a perfect rate by four farms. Get
- 25:20Speaker 1: another picks. The house is career picks. This draft has
- 25:29Speaker 1: everything for you if you want to corner. Each of
- 25:31Speaker 1: these guys does something a little bit differently. But we
- 25:34Speaker 1: look at Bucky Brooks list, and by the way, DJ's
- 25:36Speaker 1: list is pretty much the same. Emmanuel Forbes is on
- 25:38Speaker 1: that list. He has a very particular set of skills.
- 25:42Speaker 1: If you want a guy to intercept the quarterback and
- 25:45Speaker 1: run it back for a touchdown. Emmanual Forbes is your
- 25:47Speaker 1: guy who joins us now to just found out that Emmanuel, Hey,
- 25:50Speaker 1: there is a Dodgers fan, which is interesting from Grenada, Mississippi.
- 25:53Speaker 1: But Emmanuel Forbes, nobody has had more pick sixes than
- 25:58Speaker 1: this guy here in the history of FBS football, six
- 26:05Speaker 1: his college career. Emmanuel, why are you so good at
- 26:08Speaker 1: the pick six? Just looking like, take the ball away
- 26:13Speaker 1: and take from a receiver background, so I don't like
- 26:16Speaker 1: to get tackled if I'm gonna try to go score.
- 26:18Speaker 1: You're being modest man. You had six in Mississippi State.
- 26:21Speaker 1: You had eight in high school, which is just absurd.
- 26:25Speaker 1: They are also like return touchdowns as well on special teams.
- 26:29Speaker 1: It's more than Emmanuel. You just don't want to get tackled.
- 26:33Speaker 1: A lot of guys say that you're good at not
- 26:35Speaker 1: getting tackled. Yeah, and that's all from being a wide receiver.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Deserve Well, you know what, you have something in common
- 26:45Speaker 1: with Trayvon Diggs and you retweeted this. You know Treyvon Diggs,
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Cowboys corner he put on Twitter during the season.
- 26:52Speaker 1: It's a real skill to get interceptions. Anyone can squat
- 26:57Speaker 1: a ball. How much pride do you take, Emmanuel in
- 27:01Speaker 1: being the king of the pick six? Oh, I'll take
- 27:04Speaker 1: a lot, right, And I just felt like enough I
- 27:06Speaker 1: can get my hands on it. But if I can
- 27:08Speaker 1: bring it off, I can pick any day. So well,
- 27:10Speaker 1: anytime I'm close enough to get my hands on I'm
- 27:12Speaker 1: going for the pick one hundred percent. Yea fourteen career
- 27:16Speaker 1: interceptions of Mississippi State. Six of those fourteen, nearly half
- 27:19Speaker 1: of those fourteen you took back for an interception. Again,
- 27:23Speaker 1: no one of the history of FBS Division one football
- 27:25Speaker 1: has done that. But Emanuel, look, it's the draft season.
- 27:28Speaker 1: You go on a lot of these meetings, you go
- 27:29Speaker 1: to the combine um, you hear people say, they say,
- 27:32Speaker 1: we're concerned about your weight. Emmanuel, what do you weigh
- 27:35Speaker 1: right now? Of my protol was once everyone okay, and
- 27:40Speaker 1: I was there around one. Right now, I'm mound like
- 27:42Speaker 1: one seventy four and want saving sever Okay, last year
- 27:45Speaker 1: you played it like one sixty five, one sixty six. No,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I'll start to see it off once seventy three. Okay.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Are people trying to put weight on you? Do they
- 27:54Speaker 1: want you to have like eight meals a day? What
- 27:57Speaker 1: are they saying when you go on these visits. Oh yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 1: that of course I need to be heavier to play
- 28:01Speaker 1: the NFL once all about me, I have both Ryan
- 28:04Speaker 1: with the head rocking day, so I want to be
- 28:06Speaker 1: at least round on eighty one eighty five for the season.
- 28:09Speaker 1: What are you doing to put on weight? This stuff
- 28:12Speaker 1: and like eating lifting waists a lot. So I're trying
- 28:15Speaker 1: to stay healthy and just put on the right way. Honestly.
- 28:18Speaker 1: With the Dodger hat here, you should come to LA
- 28:20Speaker 1: and just do nothing. But but Dodger dogs. I know
- 28:23Speaker 1: you're getting a lot of meetings here. You recently went
- 28:25Speaker 1: to Foxborough to meet with the Patriots. Did you sit
- 28:28Speaker 1: down with Bill Belichick? Idea? Now? What was that? Like?
- 28:33Speaker 1: I was good, It went good. The whole meeting went good.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I got good information from them. Just talked to him
- 28:38Speaker 1: about a little bit about balls, uh and went really well.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Intimidating at all? Oh no, he's like a real bad guy.
- 28:46Speaker 1: So it's like on TV saves like serious. But did
- 28:50Speaker 1: he have a hoodie with cut off sleeves on off? Please?
- 28:56Speaker 1: So what's next? Cincinnati? Yeah? I got Cincinnati tomorrow. Okay,
- 29:01Speaker 1: how many more of these things we got two weeks
- 29:02Speaker 1: to go. I think slanting tomorrow. Then I gotta go
- 29:06Speaker 1: to Detroit and would be my final one. Nice, I
- 29:10Speaker 1: want to put a picture up here on the screen.
- 29:11Speaker 1: You decided to play in the ball game, Emanuel. You
- 29:14Speaker 1: weren't going to do it first, I think, but you
- 29:16Speaker 1: wanted to honor your head coach, Mike Leach. Here's a
- 29:19Speaker 1: sign here obviously that's the name of his book. What
- 29:22Speaker 1: did it mean to play in that ball game to
- 29:24Speaker 1: honor him? And what will it mean to do that
- 29:27Speaker 1: at the next level. Leaks in a bowl game, who
- 29:32Speaker 1: played in Tapa and it was unexpected passing. So I
- 29:35Speaker 1: just see me and Lorissa. Guy just need that we
- 29:38Speaker 1: should play in a ball game for him and give
- 29:40Speaker 1: him that left that he needed firmly going all the
- 29:43Speaker 1: fame Emanual Leach, Emanuel for his bigger part and playing
- 29:46Speaker 1: there for Mike Leach says that you'd be making a
- 29:49Speaker 1: big mistake if you pass on him because of any
- 29:52Speaker 1: concerns about his weight. Just turn on the tape and
- 29:54Speaker 1: watch him go into the end zone. Emmanuel. Great to
- 29:56Speaker 1: have you on, Good luck to you, safe travels. Can't
- 29:58Speaker 1: wait to see where you're go in a couple of weeks. Yes,
