- 0:00Evan: Uh yeah so i you know you've been on before i i i'm gonna record like the little
- 0:04Evan: intro thing later so i'm just gonna be just pretend like i just said all those
- 0:08Evan: things and i'll be like thanks for joining me libby and that's it cool.
- 0:12Libby: Thanks for having me oh.
- 0:14Evan: I guess i i was that was just my friend that
- 0:17Evan: was just my uh my uh telling you that but i i should just do it i swear to god
- 0:22Evan: the beginning of the every i've done this like over 100 times and like the first
- 0:26Evan: minute and the the last minute are always just very much like i don't know what
- 0:30Evan: to do now sit back in your seats get something to eat watch this movie don't look like you can see,
- 0:42Evan: thank you,
- 0:46Evan: all right well thank you for joining me today libby thank.
- 0:49Libby: You for having me.
- 0:50Evan: Yes of course so as i mentioned in the intro we're talking about the Kill Bill Volume 1 and Volume 2,
- 0:59Evan: single movie that was technically two movies, and I just learned today that
- 1:03Evan: the reason they split it up is because of Harvey Weinstein.
- 1:06Evan: What? Yeah, he said that the movie was too long, so he said,
- 1:10Evan: oh, why don't we just do two movies?
- 1:12Libby: I mean, it is like four hours.
- 1:15Evan: I know. It would have been ridiculous as one movie. I mean, let's face it.
- 1:18Libby: Imagine sitting in the theater for that whole thing. I mean,
- 1:20Libby: I fucking love the movie, but I don't know if I could sit in the theater about it.
- 1:24Evan: Yeah the first one is 111 minutes to an hour and 40 and the second one is 140
- 1:31Evan: minutes so two and a half yeah that'd be that's a big commitment i don't know
- 1:35Evan: if i'm committed enough titanic i've never seen titanic actually i think at this point i just either.
- 1:43Libby: I don't i don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:45Evan: Well at this point i'd say it's too late it's too late to see titanic but it's
- 1:51Evan: never too late. I guess that's true.
- 1:53Libby: But I mean, that's like one of the things in the movie. Anyway,
- 1:57Libby: you don't have to talk about Titanic.
- 1:58Evan: No, no. Yeah, no. But when I, when I, you, so we were talking about doing Kill
- 2:04Evan: Bill like a long time ago.
- 2:05Evan: You said it was like a, one of your favorites. I mean, what's your,
- 2:09Evan: did you see them in the theater? Did you have like a.
- 2:13Libby: So yeah, no, it just kind of like creeped into my life.
- 2:16Libby: Like I saw it in chunks, like when I, when it first came out,
- 2:19Libby: you know, and then I don't know what it was, but I just, it's like every time
- 2:25Libby: a man disappoints me, I watch the fucking movie.
- 2:29Libby: It is, it really, it really scratches that itch.
- 2:33Evan: Well, I mean.
- 2:34Libby: So that means I watch it like quarterly.
- 2:38Evan: Yeah well i mean it's uh it does definitely have that ultimate it's like the
- 2:43Evan: ultimate revenge movie i mean i can't think of the.
- 2:48Libby: Thing i love about it most is every female character is a strong female character
- 2:54Libby: like there's i i think there's one
- 2:56Libby: like sophie she's a little damsel and distressing like ish but otherwise.
- 3:03Evan: The lawyer you're talking about uh.
- 3:05Libby: Like sophie the one that gets like her arms and stuff chopped off.
- 3:09Evan: Yeah yeah she's like the lawyer or something like that i don't remember her yeah.
- 3:13Libby: I think like the assistant.
- 3:14Evan: Assistant yeah something like that.
- 3:16Libby: But she was like in with the crew like she was at the like the wedding massacre.
- 3:21Evan: Yeah you're right though every but otherwise.
- 3:23Libby: All all strong female characters they all kick ass i love that about the movie.
- 3:29Evan: Yeah it is true i mean even aside from with
- 3:31Evan: thurman you have for the people who may not have seen a
- 3:34Evan: while you have lucy lu who hadn't been in something
- 3:37Evan: in a while apparently it's like i was watching a something with
- 3:40Evan: tarantino how he ended up picking all the people apparently he picked
- 3:43Evan: vivica a fox because he was at a video
- 3:46Evan: store and saw a movie that she had been in a few years before and goes why haven't
- 3:50Evan: i seen her in anything she should be in in my movie and that was how she got
- 3:53Evan: pick to be in in this random yeah and the same thing with a bunch of the other
- 3:57Evan: ones like daryl hannah was randomly selected i don't remember the story for
- 4:02Evan: her she's brilliant yeah she is great i.
- 4:04Libby: Love her character in that.
- 4:05Evan: And michael madsen the guy who plays bud he sort
- 4:09Evan: of now i now i need to
- 4:12Evan: cut that whole part out because i'm like oh i have the story about all of them and i just forgot
- 4:15Evan: all of them but oh the the best one though is david caradine who plays you know
- 4:19Evan: the title character director bill yeah he they couldn't find anyone that would
- 4:24Evan: do it they wanted to get a bunch of different actors none of them wanted to
- 4:27Evan: learn how to do like martial arts but he already did know how to do martial
- 4:30Evan: arts from being in a bunch of you know movies in the 80s he.
- 4:33Libby: Doesn't really do anything martial like he.
- 4:36Evan: Doesn't really that's true he's like does he even have a fight at all well.
- 4:40Libby: Like at the end but it's like a quick little.
- 4:42Evan: Yeah he doesn't really do a whole lot it's more like him throwing some knives
- 4:45Evan: and shooting a gun a few times and yeah i guess that's true i don't know why
- 4:49Evan: they needed well anyway but he's great in it i mean everyone from top to bottom
- 4:53Evan: is pretty pretty awesome but i mean the the for anyone again who hasn't seen it the,
- 4:58Evan: First part of this, volume one, essentially, is you kind of get a very limited
- 5:04Evan: kind of backstory about Uma Thurman.
- 5:06Evan: You learn that she was just referred to as the bride.
- 5:09Evan: She gets shot, you know, during her wedding.
- 5:12Evan: And she begins her revenge tour. It kind of takes you back to when she was originally,
- 5:18Evan: you know, in the hospital after getting shot.
- 5:21Evan: And then you pretty much have about 30 to 40 minutes of this movie of the hour
- 5:25Evan: and 40 minutes of just a ridiculous fight scene where she kills, what, 88 people?
- 5:30Libby: Fuck yeah.
- 5:31Evan: Just murders people left and right.
- 5:36Libby: I heard during when she's massacring the crazy 88 or whatever,
- 5:42Libby: I heard that they had to put it in black and white because it was so much blood
- 5:46Libby: that it would have made the rating high.
- 5:47Evan: That's true. True.
- 5:48Libby: Yep.
- 5:48Evan: I just saw that today too. They said there was too much gore that with the color
- 5:53Evan: would have just been too over the top.
- 5:56Libby: I would have been here for it, but that's whatever. Yeah.
- 5:59Evan: And the other thing I learned today too is so in that fight scene,
- 6:02Evan: there is no special effects at all.
- 6:05Evan: And to do the blood, which is crazy, it took them two months to film that one scene.
- 6:09Evan: And the blood was all packed inside of condoms, which is like the way they would
- 6:15Evan: do it in old Japanese samurai films, things like that.
- 6:19Evan: So that's how they got the use. I don't know. I saw the thing,
- 6:23Evan: something like 3,000 gallons of blood or something in the movie.
- 6:26Libby: Yeah i like when i like how if there becomes a
- 6:29Libby: swimming pool of blood that like somebody like
- 6:32Libby: falls in and it's like just blood mixed
- 6:35Libby: into like the fountain that was there but it looks like it's
- 6:38Libby: a swimming pool of blood uh it's just the the whole i love the whole movie and
- 6:43Libby: like i love the like the spray blood that like is pretty consistent through
- 6:49Libby: tarantino movies a lot of times because I know I've seen it in another one, or in Django Unchained.
- 6:56Evan: Yeah, there was that one. I think also in what's the one with all the Nazis?
- 7:01Evan: Inglourious Basterds, I think that has a couple scenes like that too. He loves the...
- 7:05Libby: Yeah, I like that blood spray, the way they do it.
- 7:09Libby: Like when Lucy Liu, she runs across the table and you don't even see her do
- 7:14Libby: it but all of a sudden, poof, the head is gone and then there's just blood spraying and,
- 7:20Libby: the line when she's like if any of you sons
- 7:23Libby: of bitches have anything else you want
- 7:26Libby: to say now's the fucking time and like the like the empowerment behind that
- 7:32Libby: statement like she's like standing on a conference table with a bunch of men
- 7:37Libby: and they're like at her feet and she's saying like now's the fucking and ready
- 7:42Libby: to cut their head off like i love it i love it.
- 7:44Evan: Yeah there is lots of yeah that goes back to all the like
- 7:47Evan: powerful you know women so but as far as like aside from like the plot of the
- 7:52Evan: movie i mean as i said you know the the first you learn that how she dies or
- 7:57Evan: how she gets shot you know with thurman's character the bride for the whole
- 8:01Evan: first movie they also don't say what her name is they just like bleep it out
- 8:04Evan: i don't know what was the reason for that even.
- 8:05Libby: Like halfway through the second.
- 8:06Evan: Yeah i guess that's true i don't know what the reason for keeping her name out
- 8:11Evan: of it i i guess well no i guess they do say it though right he just.
- 8:14Libby: Maybe he just wanted to get Uma Thurman into a schoolgirl.
- 8:16Evan: Costume.
- 8:17Libby: Just because he's Quentin Tarantino.
- 8:21Evan: Yeah, yeah. Well, I'll definitely get to the problematic Tarantino,
- 8:26Evan: which everyone from other, I've talked about a few other of his films,
- 8:31Evan: and he's got some issues.
- 8:33Evan: But the, so yeah, so they, you find out that she is shot, she's in the hospital,
- 8:37Evan: and she goes to Vivica Fox's house.
- 8:41Evan: house i think her name is the vernita green i think is they're all part of this
- 8:45Evan: sort of green they're all part of this sort of like you know basically a hit squad under bill yeah.
- 8:50Libby: And everybody's got like a snake
- 8:52Libby: name and she's mad that um b has black mamba she's like i should have.
- 8:58Evan: Been black mamba and she's just copperhead that's right that's right yeah copperhead
- 9:02Evan: and so she basically you know they do this kick-ass fight scene like the one
- 9:05Evan: sad thing is like the that Vivica
- 9:08Evan: Fox's kid is in the house when she does this, and it's sort of weird.
- 9:13Libby: Do you know...
- 9:14Libby: there's a lot of speculation and tarantino has
- 9:17Libby: said no a lot of times but like imagine a sequel
- 9:21Libby: to this where like the kids end up
- 9:24Libby: like they grow up and like you know b's older does l actually survive like like
- 9:30Libby: there's and like with uh bb she grows up you know like they get older so it
- 9:36Libby: could be a sequel later on but there was speculation that could happen but But
- 9:40Libby: Quentin Tarantino keeps saying like, that'll never happen. But it's so interesting.
- 9:44Evan: I've heard that where he joked, or maybe he in passing said,
- 9:47Evan: someone was like, oh, what if you did volume three?
- 9:49Evan: And it was, you know, your 10th film.
- 9:52Evan: And he said, oh, you know, maybe, but I doubt he'd do it. I doubt he would.
- 9:55Evan: He's not the kind of guy that would redo his shit.
- 9:58Libby: Didn't he say that like, he only had a certain number of movies that he ever
- 10:03Libby: wanted to do. And then he's hit that number. So he's not doing any more movies.
- 10:07Evan: Yeah, he has one left and he wants, and he was going to do one.
- 10:10Evan: It was all planned out and then he canceled it.
- 10:12Evan: And I think he should just stop doing that and just make movies and stop being such a bitch.
- 10:16Evan: It's like, you like making movies. Why do you have to, I guess his theory is,
- 10:20Evan: you know, eventually you start making crappy movies at the end of your career.
- 10:23Evan: So he just goes out on top. I don't know.
- 10:26Libby: Yeah.
- 10:27Evan: Tarantino's a weird guy.
- 10:28Libby: He's a weird guy. That's a good way to say it.
- 10:31Evan: Yeah. Yeah, and I guess I'll just at the top to talk about one of the two things
- 10:37Evan: that kind of cloud the movie is in the second film,
- 10:41Evan: volume two, there is a scene where Uma's driving down a road fast in a car and
- 10:47Evan: they wouldn't give her a stunt double.
- 10:50Evan: Apparently, they gave the stunt double the day off. The head of the stunt department wasn't there.
- 10:54Evan: Quentin Tarantino convinced her to do the stunt anyway, and she crashed the
- 10:58Evan: car into a tree and messed up her knee and some other things,
- 11:03Evan: and then didn't come out until...
- 11:06Evan: 10 years or 15 years later and he apologized released the footage and all this
- 11:09Evan: and she also was abused by harvey weinstein so she definitely she deserves some revenge,
- 11:19Evan: revenge in the movie yeah and she was like choked too.
- 11:22Libby: With a chain right like that was for real choking.
- 11:24Evan: Yes i don't know if she got as hurt as from doing that but i do know the the
- 11:29Evan: whole i mean crashing your car because they wouldn't get the stunt double like
- 11:32Evan: just so i don't so you're we We were talking about like the.
- 11:36Libby: Scene with Vivica A. Fox and like the daughter and stuff. Yeah, that is sad.
- 11:42Libby: But like, and one thing that bothered me is like, they say that she's four and
- 11:47Libby: she gets off the bus by herself.
- 11:49Libby: Like, I don't know. I guess it's hard to like nitpick consistency in this movie
- 11:56Libby: because there's a lot that's like you gotta, you know, just roll with. But yeah.
- 12:00Evan: Suspend her. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. That's true. I don't remember them saying
- 12:02Evan: she was four, but you think that she would be at minimum kindergarten, right?
- 12:05Libby: Well, four is like preschool age still.
- 12:07Evan: Five?
- 12:08Libby: And like, yeah.
- 12:09Evan: Yeah, that's pretty young.
- 12:10Libby: And they say she's four because that's the same age as Bebe.
- 12:14Evan: Right, right. Yeah, for anyone who doesn't know, Bebe is Uma Thurman's daughter
- 12:20Evan: who she was pregnant with when she's shot.
- 12:22Evan: And you think she believes that she dies, but we learn later that she's not dead.
- 12:29Evan: So I just spoiled it for everyone. But it's been 20 years.
- 12:32Libby: You should have seen it by now. Yeah, this is, like, there's...
- 12:35Evan: Sorry, everyone.
- 12:35Libby: There really shouldn't be spoiler warnings, because it's old enough.
- 12:41Evan: No, no. At this point, on this point, like, people have... Actually,
- 12:45Evan: someone once got mad at me because a guest spoiled a movie that wasn't the one we were talking about.
- 12:50Evan: He just randomly was like, oh, it's like this movie where this happened.
- 12:52Evan: And someone goes, oh, you shouldn't have kept that in.
- 12:55Evan: And I just didn't, I just forgot to cut it out. But I don't know.
- 12:58Evan: we're that whatever who gives a shit anyway but
- 13:01Evan: yeah the the um like yeah so you have
- 13:04Evan: the that's kind of the middle of the movie and then you have her is this when
- 13:10Evan: is it in the first is it the first movie where she's in she's in the hospital
- 13:14Evan: right and they show that like the guy with the pussy wagon who's basically bringing
- 13:17Evan: people into labor while she's in a coma for four years it's so fucked up one.
- 13:21Libby: Thing about that is like so she's being like raped the whole time that she's like in a coma, right?
- 13:27Libby: The way that they do not touch on any sort of trauma that she would have gotten
- 13:33Libby: during that, I mean, maybe she just, like, jammed it all in until the end and used it as fuel,
- 13:39Libby: but, like, how little that is addressed is very fucked up to me.
- 13:44Evan: I don't know why they needed... I don't know, I mean...
- 13:47Libby: I guess another layer of revenge.
- 13:49Evan: Because the way that.
- 13:51Libby: Like, she, like, kills him by, like, biting his face off, like, went you know.
- 13:57Evan: That's right and then the way.
- 13:58Libby: That like she kills the other guy like she like jams his head in the door he's
- 14:02Libby: like please stop hitting me.
- 14:07Evan: Yeah the and so and the other thing too that's pretty cool i mean i can't even
- 14:12Evan: i'm not even going to bother listing them all but there's probably something
- 14:14Evan: like 20 25 different movies that he references in different you know scenes
- 14:20Evan: and the way they're doing it but one the one that
- 14:22Evan: I was going to mention is when Uma Thurman wakes up from her coma is the same,
- 14:27Evan: uh thing that she did in pulp fiction when she gets the shroud of.
- 14:30Libby: Adrenaline from her overdose she like flies up so it's yeah so.
- 14:34Evan: That was a little.
- 14:34Libby: Homage to.
- 14:35Evan: That but there's so many clips from from you know shots from.
- 14:39Libby: It's so many again there's probably 20 or 25 different
- 14:42Libby: any original thoughts for like how scenes
- 14:45Libby: should like play out because it's so
- 14:48Libby: many references like i was watching on like
- 14:51Libby: one of the apps that like tells you all
- 14:53Libby: of like every little detail behind the the scenes or whatever and yeah and it
- 14:58Libby: was just every single one was this movie this and i shut it off because like
- 15:02Libby: i can't sit and read every single reference to the 800 different movies that
- 15:08Libby: he bit off to make this movie yeah.
- 15:11Evan: Like there's like the the scene too where um where what is uh daryl ellie driver
- 15:17Evan: her name's uh mountain snake i think was her no.
- 15:19Libby: I don't know which you know You know what? I don't know what snake, but yeah, L.
- 15:23Evan: Yeah, L. Driver. When she's dressed up in the nurse's outfit and she's walking
- 15:28Evan: down the hall whistling that very catchy tune, that's basically lifted from
- 15:33Evan: the movie Twisted Nerve.
- 15:35Evan: And then the needle part is from another movie I can't remember.
- 15:38Evan: Again, there's so many movies that are referenced.
- 15:40Libby: You remember in the early aughts how you had ringtones, like you would buy ringtones.
- 15:45Libby: The whistle was my ringtone.
- 15:48Libby: Even to this day, I have all Kill Bill sounds on my phone that it makes it.
- 15:54Evan: That that that whistle is such a i mean when i think of the the music or the
- 15:59Evan: soundtrack it's really good it's all done by rza too when but the uh sound that it makes.
- 16:04Libby: When b sees somebody that she's gonna fucking kill like one of the people on her revenge list.
- 16:10Evan: Oh i love.
- 16:11Libby: That like the siren sound it's awesome.
- 16:13Evan: That's also well it makes you.
- 16:15Libby: Like really revved like oh fuck yeah it's on like.
- 16:18Evan: Well the music is different i think it's like the the weird like where it kind
- 16:21Evan: of zooms in and out and it's got like a weird red tint to it or something.
- 16:25Evan: I think that happens when she walks into the club in the first movie.
- 16:28Evan: No? Or maybe it happens a few times.
- 16:31Libby: Every time she sees one of her intended targets.
- 16:34Evan: Got it. Okay. Yeah, that's right. Right. Yeah. That part is...
- 16:37Evan: That's such a cool... I mean, even if Quentin Tarantino is ripping off of 50
- 16:42Evan: other movies, at least it looks good Yeah, it comes together and it's fucking awesome.
- 16:45Libby: It's my favorite movie. Absolutely my favorite movie.
- 16:48Evan: And then so after she's in the hospital, we find out she's getting raped constantly.
- 16:54Evan: She kills them, she leave so it's it's like
- 16:57Evan: this whole shit with quentin tarantino the non-linear first you
- 17:00Evan: see how she gets shot and then you go to where
- 17:03Evan: she kills one of you know vivica fox and then it goes back again how she got
- 17:06Evan: the pussy wagon because i think she gets into the car and people like what the
- 17:10Evan: fuck why is she driving this ridiculous car and then you see the dudes uh you
- 17:15Evan: know the guy who's yeah and then and then they go to the then i think she goes
- 17:20Evan: to japan right she goes to get the
- 17:22Evan: hanzo sword which is first but they.
- 17:25Libby: Don't show it until second.
- 17:27Evan: That's right yep that's right she because they show the list and
- 17:30Evan: she's already crossed off but you don't know until i guess
- 17:33Evan: the end of the first movie that's when she kills yeah after
- 17:36Evan: the long drawn-out scene but the but what's crazy
- 17:39Evan: is the guy who plays uh hattori hanzo that he he is a the actor was like a legend
- 17:46Evan: in japanese movies and he actually did make like swords on the side so that
- 17:51Evan: was you know it wasn't and just oh they're just gonna throw throw this guy in
- 17:54Evan: here yeah he's uh like the the actor is um,
- 17:58Evan: uh sony chiba and also in true romance which is a movie i just did on the podcast
- 18:04Evan: in the very first scene they go to a movie theater and they're watching a sony
- 18:07Evan: chiba movie so he loves these he loves japanese well i guess he got to flex that muscle.
- 18:13Libby: A lot for this movie then you know like the,
- 18:17Libby: The scene with Bea and Oren when they're like facing off with like the,
- 18:22Libby: I mean, I don't understand how they have this winter scene behind that whole
- 18:27Libby: club, but that's besides the point.
- 18:29Libby: It's still so cool with like the fountain that like the water goes down and it's like,
- 18:33Libby: and then it like makes like a repetitive sound and the snow being so serene
- 18:40Libby: and they're like just like splattering blood across it. It's so cool.
- 18:45Evan: Yeah there's um yeah that scene is real i mean
- 18:47Evan: it's so crazy because you go from that black and white to like the white snow
- 18:53Evan: outside i mean maybe that was just the it looked cool i mean i don't know i
- 18:57Evan: don't know how much it snows in japan i don't know why they i mean again it
- 19:00Evan: looks pretty damn uh cool and then the guy too the guy who plays the head of
- 19:05Evan: the security gordon lau he also
- 19:07Evan: plays the um like the who's the name of their elite like the the master who
- 19:14Evan: teaches them in the second movie i'm blanking on his name right now yeah so
- 19:18Evan: he's played this it's the same actor oh wow.
- 19:20Libby: I didn't know that damn.
- 19:22Evan: Yeah he's also like a legend as far as um you
- 19:25Evan: know i think he did he was also in you
- 19:28Evan: know like the shaolin which is what you know the wu-tang clan used
- 19:31Evan: their thing after the 36 chamber he was
- 19:34Evan: in all those movies in the 80s so he's he like all the stuff he
- 19:37Evan: was doing was probably just straight up just he could do it he
- 19:39Evan: didn't have to no you have to teach him shit can you
- 19:42Evan: can you hear the thunder behind me oh it's it just started
- 19:45Evan: storming it's so loud i'm surprised you can't hear it maybe i
- 19:48Evan: maybe it'll be on my end but yeah the yeah so then they go to japan and he he
- 19:53Evan: you know she gets the sword which essentially is you know her murder weapon
- 19:57Evan: like that whole part too i mean i at first the first time i saw the movie i'm
- 20:00Evan: like why is she sitting in this random like sushi restaurant getting sushi and
- 20:04Evan: then the the owner is like arguing with,
- 20:07Evan: Hattori Hanzo like that part's also really funny he's like get him get him the
- 20:12Evan: water and all this shit and I don't know just every little scene of going up
- 20:16Evan: to the room seeing the swords convincing him to make the sword again and so
- 20:21Evan: this actually leads me to one of my questions like a couple of the like sort of,
- 20:25Evan: I don't want to call them philosophical questions but like the whole story is
- 20:29Evan: about revenge and do you think that like does Uma Thurman even though that That
- 20:33Evan: she's received all of this trauma.
- 20:35Evan: She was raped while in a coma. She was shot while she was pregnant in the head.
- 20:38Evan: All this fucked up stuff happens. But does she bear any responsibility for becoming
- 20:44Evan: basically a trained killer?
- 20:47Libby: You know, I think that... So at the end, right, with Bill, he's like,
- 20:53Libby: why didn't you ever tell me that Pai Mei taught you that five point...
- 20:59Libby: exploding heart trick or whatever um she's
- 21:03Libby: like because i'm a bad person so she like
- 21:06Libby: i think she knew and like before she was
- 21:10Libby: pregnant and she says like if this had if this
- 21:12Libby: was any other time when she's facing karen at the like hotel that she's staying
- 21:18Libby: in that she was gonna go and kill yeah whoever whatever um she's like any other
- 21:24Libby: time you would be right and she ran away she That was the whole point of her
- 21:28Libby: getting away, was to get out of the killer life.
- 21:31Libby: So she knew it was wrong. She knew it was shitty. But then when they shot her
- 21:36Libby: in the fucking head, she's like, well, now I got to go kill everybody.
- 21:38Evan: Yeah, that's true. I mean, she does openly admit, you know, you don't really
- 21:43Evan: get any information, I don't think, of her childhood.
- 21:47Evan: You do get some for some of the other, I think it's, what is it?
- 21:51Libby: O-Ren, they say her whole backstory.
- 21:54Evan: Yeah, for her, that was the cartoon, the anime they do for that is also pretty damn awesome, too.
- 22:02Evan: I guess, so for her, she knows what she's doing. She's also a person who's built
- 22:08Evan: on revenge, but again, it would be interesting to know what Uma Thurman's backstory
- 22:13Evan: is, which you never really...
- 22:15Evan: How does she end up getting mixed up with Bill? There's no real...
- 22:19Libby: So I have a theory of how she got mixed up with
- 22:22Libby: bill this is this is a big theory though okay and
- 22:26Libby: i tried looking that up on the internet no one else is talking
- 22:28Libby: about this but no no theory is too big no theories i think that this movie is
- 22:33Libby: actually about a polycule becoming unraveled okay so like it can draw a parallel
- 22:40Libby: to everything that would happen with everybody breaking up all right so i think
- 22:44Libby: that bill Bill and Bea were like,
- 22:47Libby: they had a hierarchy relationship and she was his primary partner and Elle didn't
- 22:55Libby: like that and Elle wanted to be the primary partner, so that's why they were rivals.
- 23:01Libby: I think Elle and Bill's brother, Bud,
- 23:05Libby: I think they were together and I say this
- 23:10Libby: with no evidence whatsoever all on
- 23:12Libby: vibes of what i think that like people like who
- 23:15Libby: they would be like i think that b and vivica a fox i think that they got together
- 23:21Libby: sometimes i think that um oren and bud got together and they're like an odd
- 23:30Libby: couple but i think that that makes sense um for.
- 23:34Libby: Only in my mind does it make sense but the
- 23:37Libby: way everybody breaks up no i mean it's bill bill
- 23:40Libby: is like the head guy right and then bill
- 23:44Libby: the bud the brother any like so
- 23:46Libby: it gets so complicated the way any polycule would and when um b like extricates
- 23:53Libby: herself from it everybody's mad at her so So everybody wants to make her a pariah
- 24:00Libby: if that was a polycule and not like a assassin gang.
- 24:04Libby: So like, yeah, that's just my theory that I've come up with.
- 24:10Libby: And Bill being like, I think he's like a Daddy Dom kink guy. Like, absolutely.
- 24:19Libby: Because that's how he comes across.
- 24:21Evan: I can see that.
- 24:21Libby: And even at the like, it ends up it's not a wedding.
- 24:26Libby: it's a wedding rehearsal and she's like this
- 24:28Libby: is my daddy like it like i it you know like there's a lot of that that was creepy
- 24:35Libby: with this theory that i just made up based on vibes and maybe i'm projecting
- 24:41Libby: shit onto it that may or may not have ever been part of my life well.
- 24:47Evan: Here's another thing that's weird i'm not this is not to like discount it but
- 24:51Evan: here's another thing i'm thinking You have Vivek A.
- 24:52Evan: Fox's character, when at the beginning of the movie, when she goes to kill her,
- 24:56Evan: when Bea goes to kill her, she's like now just a mother living, just living her life.
- 25:02Evan: She's basically what Uma Thurman wanted to have, right? She wanted to just.
- 25:06Evan: Have her kid, be married. But she was allowed to do that, right?
- 25:10Evan: She was allowed to leave the gang and be- Yeah, but she wasn't the primary partner.
- 25:13Libby: She was, you know- Right.
- 25:15Evan: That's exactly what I was going to say, is that she wasn't the top of the food
- 25:20Evan: chain, so Bill didn't really care. It wasn't really-
- 25:23Libby: And maybe she had remorse. Maybe she had genuine remorse.
- 25:27Libby: She was like, damn, Bill just shot my pregnant friend or my partner,
- 25:33Libby: former partner, whatever, if they had ever been together.
- 25:36Libby: She's like, damn, that's fucked up, and got extricated herself,
- 25:41Libby: but in a way that Bill wouldn't go kill her about. I don't know.
- 25:44Evan: They all seemed, I mean, they all, except for Bill, seemed remorseful for what they did.
- 25:49Libby: But especially, he's like, she deserves her revenge. Elle was like, no, fuck her.
- 25:54Libby: I think that Elle and Bea were bitter rivals, and Bea was always just ahead
- 25:59Libby: of her, and Elle was always very jealous of that.
- 26:02Evan: Yeah, that makes sense, especially in the fight scene in the second movie in
- 26:07Evan: Bud's trailer, which also is just a ridiculous fight scene, too.
- 26:12Evan: I love when they pull out the swords and they can't- When.
- 26:14Libby: She gets the spit in.
- 26:16Evan: Her.
- 26:18Libby: She throws it in her face. That makes me actually, it's shocking every time I watch that movie.
- 26:25Libby: And then when Bea squishes her eyeball under her feet, that's so unnecessary.
- 26:31Libby: Yeah, yeah. like if that like they have to make all the blood from the ridiculous
- 26:35Libby: like sword fight being black and white but they can show that eyeball squish.
- 26:40Evan: Yeah i actually that's like the one um like i can watch any kind of horror movie
- 26:45Evan: but actually like things with related to eyes i sometimes have to like look
- 26:49Evan: away because it just creeps me out and then the same thing in this i knew it
- 26:53Evan: was coming i'm like i can't look can't watch her squish it it's just it's one
- 26:56Evan: of those weird uh things but But yeah,
- 26:58Evan: the funniest part in that whole scene is when they pull out their samurai swords
- 27:03Evan: and the broom is so small they can't actually pull them out.
- 27:08Libby: Like, yeah, get them out.
- 27:10Evan: Yeah, there's so many little, there's so many gags and things throughout all
- 27:14Evan: of the different things.
- 27:15Evan: But yeah, I think you're right there. I think Bud is very immortal.
- 27:18Evan: He's like, I deserve to die for this.
- 27:20Libby: Yeah, even though he like fights it and like buries her or whatever.
- 27:24Libby: But she doesn't actually kill Bud.
- 27:27Libby: The black mamba snake kills Bud.
- 27:31Evan: That's right. Because of her own brother or her own sister.
- 27:34Libby: Because of Elle. Yeah, that like she puts it in there. but is it does it count
- 27:38Libby: though because it's a black.
- 27:40Evan: Mamba that kills.
- 27:41Libby: Him and b is a black mamba
- 27:44Libby: but another thing you know how l talks
- 27:47Libby: about like how uh like bite to
- 27:50Libby: the face is like the fastest way to die
- 27:53Libby: remember back in the hospital scene when she
- 27:56Libby: bites his face and he dies really quickly and then she like hits the guy on
- 28:01Libby: the head and he dies like having a seizure having paralysis the same way that
- 28:06Libby: they talk about in like that um l talks about in that um like essay she wrote
- 28:13Libby: about the black mamba snake.
- 28:14Evan: That's true that it's one of the funniest things when you're talking about the
- 28:17Evan: black mamba when l is in the trailer and she pulls out her little notebook and
- 28:21Evan: she's like reading it like because they didn't have wikipedia i guess they have
- 28:23Evan: wikipedia when the wikipedia come out i don't know but it's really funny i mean
- 28:27Evan: she's reading all the things she.
- 28:28Libby: Had to have used an encyclopedia for that one like way back then.
- 28:32Evan: Wonder when she.
- 28:33Libby: Had to go to the a library to write that i bet.
- 28:35Evan: Yeah that's probably true well it says wikipedia became a thing in 2001,
- 28:41Evan: but it doesn't seem like you could use like it wasn't the kind of thing you
- 28:45Evan: could just find all that's a baby right she probably did go to a library and
- 28:49Evan: like checked out a book or stole it or whatever that's that's almost comical
- 28:53Evan: to think of people using the dewey decibel system to find their books,
- 28:57Evan: which I go to the library still. You still got to use it.
- 29:00Libby: Yeah. I love her line when he's like, what do you feel?
- 29:07Libby: And she's like, regret that a bushwhacking scrub-
- 29:12Libby: elky redneck like you that she met her match by an elky scrub like you like
- 29:19Libby: i love that like i mean like he's half dead but like she's still talking to
- 29:23Libby: him like just dunking on him already like while he's got like a face full of
- 29:27Libby: venom it's awesome this whole movie it is it is crazy it is.
- 29:31Evan: Crazy that he was the one that was able to catch her only because she was underneath
- 29:35Evan: the you know she was kind of stupid in the way she was coming in she didn't
- 29:40Evan: think he would be sitting there with With a gun.
- 29:42Evan: Like, why not sneak in the back?
- 29:44Libby: And shoots rock salt at her. And she's, like, not, like, she doesn't,
- 29:48Libby: like, scream in pain. I mean, she's writhing in pain.
- 29:51Libby: And I like, one of my favorite lines from him, there was, like,
- 29:55Libby: he's, like, you know, that woman deserves her revenge.
- 29:58Libby: And, you know, he says all of that. But then he's, like, you're going under the ground tonight.
- 30:05Libby: And unless you want me to unload this whole goddamn can into your eyeball.
- 30:11Libby: I'm like, you make the smart choice here or whatever he says from there.
- 30:15Libby: But I, the whole goddamn can right in her eyeball. I love it.
- 30:20Evan: That is also one of, there's like so many crazy ways that people die in this movie.
- 30:26Evan: And I think she doesn't actually die by being buried alive, but that's actually
- 30:30Evan: like one of my like, you know, biggest fears would be to be buried alive.
- 30:34Evan: And when the, like the dirt's getting dropped on her and you,
- 30:38Evan: camera goes dark for i don't know five seconds before you know she you see her
- 30:43Evan: does she have a like she has a lighter or something it's or a flashlight yeah
- 30:47Evan: the flashlight it's so she's a flashlight.
- 30:49Libby: And you know that quentin tarantino made her put that flashlight in her mouth
- 30:54Libby: like a huge dick like she had it like holding it in her mouth for like a minute
- 30:58Libby: and then she like moves it onto her shoulder but like they made it very phallic
- 31:03Libby: like very much on absolutely had to would have been on purpose.
- 31:06Evan: Yeah and i don't think most of his stage direction from what i understand is
- 31:10Evan: all very intentional he doesn't you're like you're not really meant to improvise
- 31:14Evan: very much everything is very yeah he definitely put the flashlight in her mouth
- 31:18Evan: and that whole thing too i mean i i just love the you know the like the what's
- 31:23Evan: the word um the not centered not uh,
- 31:26Evan: so they show her in the in the they show her earlier doing the training where
- 31:31Evan: she's punching Punching the, you know, the board from only six inches away.
- 31:35Libby: Yeah, like it flashes to her hymen.
- 31:36Evan: Continuity. The continuity. That's the word I was looking for.
- 31:38Evan: Like the continuity of those two things that seem like completely irrelevant.
- 31:42Evan: I remember the first time I watched it in the theater, I'm like,
- 31:44Evan: why is she punching the thing like that? Like, what's the point of this punch?
- 31:48Evan: Like, when are you ever going to be that close to someone?
- 31:51Evan: I don't know. Yeah. And then she has to, and the part where she breaks free
- 31:54Evan: from the grave also is pulled from some movie. I forget which one now. Of course.
- 32:00Libby: I love when she gets to the diner and she sits down. She's like, a glass of water.
- 32:05Evan: Please.
- 32:06Libby: She's like covered in dirt.
- 32:09Evan: Oh, and they don't ask any questions. They're just like, okay.
- 32:14Evan: She doesn't have any money. She doesn't have, yeah, she can't buy anything else
- 32:17Evan: to drink. She just gets some, gets some.
- 32:20Evan: Yeah. I'm trying to think of the other things from, I guess we've talked about
- 32:23Evan: both movies, really, but, oh, I know what it was.
- 32:26Evan: So, like, so we, so that's the other thing, too, is that the,
- 32:29Evan: like, I read, this isn't like an original thought.
- 32:31Evan: I was looking into other people's articles and someone wrote like a long,
- 32:35Evan: I guess it's like an essay about, you know, that the movie blurs the lines between
- 32:40Evan: sort of like what's good and evil.
- 32:42Evan: And if you think about probably a lot of the people that their gang is killing
- 32:46Evan: are probably also bad people and killers, presumably a lot of the time.
- 32:50Evan: So they're kind of saying like, well, is it bad to kill another bad guy?
- 32:54Evan: And like, is, you know, be actually bad? Is she evil? Is she good? You know, is Bill evil?
- 33:01Libby: Yeah, I mean, everybody's just taking the money for killing people. They don't give a fuck.
- 33:04Evan: Yeah, for them, it's just a job, honestly.
- 33:08Evan: And I guess that's also the other part of this that brought up is,
- 33:12Evan: if Bill is considered or should be considered an anti-hero, do you hate him
- 33:18Evan: for all the horrible things he does?
- 33:19Evan: He literally shot his girlfriend or whatever, partner, poly partner, whatever you-
- 33:27Libby: His primary poly partner. His primary poly partner.
- 33:30Evan: Like in the head, assuming to kill her, then steals her- Very pregnant.
- 33:34Evan: Steals her unborn child, raises it, basically says like, mommy,
- 33:37Evan: we'll wake up sometime, which is also really weird.
- 33:40Evan: Like the kids, Bebe's sort of, when she sees him is also very-
- 33:45Evan: i don't know.
- 33:46Libby: Yeah no i hate bill the whole movie i.
- 33:49Evan: Don't know how you could.
- 33:50Libby: See him as i never see him in any other like aspect other than creepy old guy
- 33:56Libby: with a lot of money exploiting these like beautiful women i don't know yeah.
- 34:02Evan: For me it's kind of hard to see him as an anti-hero like i think of you know
- 34:06Evan: some people talk about like you know and walt and breaking bad and these other
- 34:09Evan: people where they're at some point there was some reason they did what they
- 34:13Evan: did and then they crossed the line and then they're kind of gone like i don't think you.
- 34:17Libby: Could ever say.
- 34:18Evan: At any point does he you don't know what his upbringing was but he they all go to this.
- 34:23Libby: Master to learn they tell you about esteban esteban who's like his father figure
- 34:28Libby: right and that would make sense for like him being like part of like a poly
- 34:33Libby: community is like not having like one partner like not being part of like a
- 34:39Libby: nuclear family and having that as like
- 34:42Libby: the example set for him so
- 34:45Libby: like esteban being like a pimp
- 34:48Libby: in and then having like the oh i forget
- 34:51Libby: the name of the boys it's something that like all his like illegitimate children
- 34:56Libby: from all of these prostitutes that he pimps um they end up having a gang and
- 35:02Libby: like upholding so like that's where bill grew up was with this esteban guy you
- 35:08Libby: know like that's his father figure yeah you.
- 35:10Evan: Know actually i learned today too is that scene was filmed in an actual brothel
- 35:15Evan: and those all the extras in it were actually people who worked in it.
- 35:18Libby: Oh wow which.
- 35:19Evan: Is sort of weird i don't know why they had to do it i mean it's very.
- 35:23Libby: What about the one like was she an actor just the people in the background the
- 35:28Libby: background people were yeah.
- 35:29Evan: The background i don't think the first.
- 35:30Libby: Person she talks the one with like how she got cut in the face no i think.
- 35:34Evan: That that's an actor and then all the other ones are people.
- 35:36Libby: Who work.
- 35:37Evan: There but yeah Yeah, that's right. He does have a, also growing up in that kind
- 35:40Evan: of situation, he already would be, like you said, he would already be used to
- 35:43Evan: some weird, you know, polycule type of lifestyle there. And,
- 35:49Evan: you know, he's teaching.
- 35:50Libby: Yeah, like that's how he grew up. That's what he knows.
- 35:53Evan: Man, this, like, you could probably write like a, you could probably write a book, you know.
- 35:57Libby: Yeah, no, like it's, there's so many through lines that like that makes sense.
- 36:02Libby: And I don't understand why no one else on the internet is talking about that.
- 36:05Evan: Yeah, I just Googled it, like you had said before. You think even someone on
- 36:09Evan: Reddit would have thought of this by now, right?
- 36:11Libby: Yeah, no, yeah. I didn't see it anywhere, but it makes so much sense.
- 36:17Libby: And the couples that you can extract what's actually going on,
- 36:24Libby: I mean, that's all just guessing.
- 36:27Evan: Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 36:29Evan: That's true. I mean, I'm not saying I don't buy this theory.
- 36:34Evan: I think it's very, very plausible.
- 36:36Evan: And given how you don't really know any information about how the other people
- 36:40Evan: grew up other than Lucy Liu's character, or Ren, you don't know.
- 36:44Evan: You know Bill, you know Lucy Liu, and everyone else, you don't know how Elle
- 36:48Evan: and Bud grew up. They seemed like...
- 36:51Libby: Well, Bud is Bill's brother. So I imagine that they had similar upbringing between Bud and Bill.
- 36:58Evan: I think I mistakenly said before that Elle and Bud... Wait, no.
- 37:02Libby: I think that Elle and Bud had a time together. I think that they've interacted in a romantic context.
- 37:10Evan: Yeah, and it probably ended poorly, given the fact that she's willing to kill him.
- 37:15Libby: Yeah, I think Elle... I love her character.
- 37:21Libby: She's like a bad guy, but you still root for her.
- 37:25Libby: and she doesn't actually they don't
- 37:28Libby: show her actually die she's just like left blind
- 37:32Libby: in like a trailer with a black mamba loose
- 37:35Libby: in it in the middle of the desert like what if
- 37:38Libby: she found a way because um she had called bill to say like oh bud is dead in
- 37:44Libby: his trailer what if bill sent somebody to go and like clean up the mess that
- 37:49Libby: like l left or um yeah that that supposedly bill had had killed him in his trailer
- 37:56Libby: and maybe she could have survived.
- 37:58Libby: Maybe she survived that thing. She's just blind now.
- 38:01Evan: Yeah. I would presume that she probably did survive. Well, I guess the idea
- 38:05Evan: is you figured that the snakes in the trailer would eventually get to her and
- 38:08Evan: bite her because she can't see shit.
- 38:11Evan: And the thing that's crazy too, apparently the, so Daryl Hannah,
- 38:14Evan: one of her first movies was Blade Runner from like the early eighties.
- 38:19Evan: And her, she plays like one of these replicants in it. And she has this scene
- 38:23Evan: where she's, you know, know, in pain and getting, I think, hurt.
- 38:27Evan: And so she apparently like used some of the same kind of, uh,
- 38:30Evan: I don't know what you would call them, uh.
- 38:33Evan: the screams of agony like from that movie from i guess it would have been 20 years like when.
- 38:41Libby: She's like screaming in.
- 38:42Evan: Pain at.
- 38:43Libby: The end oh.
- 38:45Evan: Yeah she uh that scene like every one of the i mean you it's easy to say that
- 38:50Evan: the fight scene in the first movie in the you know in the the create against
- 38:53Evan: crazy 88 is like the most epic fight scene but some of the other ones i think
- 38:57Evan: are almost more fun because that one just kind
- 39:00Evan: of over the top you know just beating everyone going down stairwells between.
- 39:05Libby: Volume one and volume two i like volume two better i.
- 39:08Evan: Like i.
- 39:09Libby: Like how it's more like it is giving you context she's like the under like getting
- 39:15Libby: out from underground in a grave like.
- 39:18Evan: Yeah they have they spend at least like with sorry bud having.
- 39:23Libby: To clean shitty water out of a stall and like getting yelled at by the cocaine
- 39:27Libby: guy like i i love it it's it's better it's not like i love one and two but between the two two is better.
- 39:34Evan: Yeah i agree well before i before i mentioned that so
- 39:37Evan: i also learned this today is that the scene where the like the owner of the
- 39:41Evan: strip club is like reprimanding him and he says like i you know in that fucking
- 39:46Evan: hat you like take off that fucking hat apparently that line was added later
- 39:50Evan: because he uh because um michael madsen wanted to wear that hat as part of his character.
- 39:57Evan: And Quentin Tarantino hated the hat, wanted him to not use it.
- 40:00Evan: And so he threw that line in to be like, I fucking hate your stupid hat.
- 40:05Evan: That's cool. Well, but I, but to the point of like the second one better, I think,
- 40:09Evan: I think the second movie is better. The first movie has that epic fight scene.
- 40:13Evan: But again, like you said, the second one has all the character development.
- 40:16Evan: You have scenes where Bill and Bea are just kind of sitting by the campfire.
- 40:20Evan: He's playing that weird flute thing.
- 40:22Evan: I don't know what it's called. Yeah. It's just all these little scenes where
- 40:25Evan: they explain their character, and they're just kind of more talking and less
- 40:31Evan: fighting. So I find it more interesting.
- 40:34Evan: If you're going to pick one to watch, I would watch the second one.
- 40:38Libby: I watch any, like I said, every time a man disappoints me, I watch that movie.
- 40:43Libby: I watch them both. I'll sit and watch it right through.
- 40:47Evan: Well, so you would. So maybe you would have sat through four hours and-
- 40:52Libby: Not in a movie theater.
- 40:53Evan: Yeah, that's true.
- 40:54Libby: I'll watch it in my bed for four hours while I run.
- 40:57Evan: That's true. That's a little better.
- 40:59Libby: Bad about a breakup.
- 41:01Evan: Yeah, that's true. That's a little bit more comfy than sitting in a sticky movie
- 41:05Evan: theater with eating $19 popcorn or something.
- 41:08Libby: Yeah, you can't go pee. You're in a mess part of the movie.
- 41:12Evan: That's one thing I hate in the movie is you have to go to the bathroom.
- 41:15Evan: I think there's some website where they, maybe it was just for certain movies,
- 41:19Evan: where they tell you the moment to go pee in a movie.
- 41:22Libby: Oh, damn.
- 41:23Evan: That's a good idea. I don't know if it's for every movie. I remember it was
- 41:25Evan: for a bunch of the Marvel movies that were super long. They're like at minute 64.
- 41:30Evan: Oh, you can go anytime during a Marvel movie. Yeah, those Avenger movies bore me to tears, but,
- 41:38Evan: Not to say I didn't see all of them.
- 41:40Libby: You can just go ahead and watch none of it.
- 41:43Evan: I want to see if that's actually true, if there's a website.
- 41:47Evan: Yep, it's called runp.com, the world's most indispensable movie app to tell
- 41:53Evan: you when to pee during a movie. So it's an app for your phone.
- 41:56Libby: Hell yeah.
- 41:56Evan: I wonder if you could press it to start when the movie starts,
- 42:00Evan: and then it would have an alarm go off being like, now's the time.
- 42:04Libby: Like, now's the time.
- 42:05Evan: Actually, wait. Wait, the picture on the website is a countdown timer to when
- 42:08Evan: you should go pee. Whoever created this app, I mean, deserves it.
- 42:13Libby: Genius.
- 42:13Evan: How do you even pick? Let's see. I'm going to type in Kill Bill. Kill Bill.
- 42:18Libby: It says don't go pee. Watch the whole thing.
- 42:22Evan: Can you, I don't know if you can actually do it from the website.
- 42:25Libby: Maybe, maybe it's a good idea to go pee during like when she's having the battle
- 42:30Libby: with the crazy 88 because that's kind of a long scene and it's like all the same.
- 42:34Evan: Yeah i mean there's some cool parts where she you know is dodging the like.
- 42:38Libby: They run on the banister and like.
- 42:40Evan: That part is pretty cool actually the scene where i think where they near the
- 42:43Evan: end of it when she gets to the top of the of the
- 42:46Evan: landing in one of the rooms and they have a really cool shot where it's blue
- 42:50Evan: and you can just see the shadows of them fighting also pulled from another movie
- 42:53Evan: but also really cool looking i mean yeah there's so much um yeah so many good
- 42:59Evan: um shots what was the other they had some other questions i was like yeah so So not an anti-hero.
- 43:04Evan: I guess this is kind of like, I feel like this is all like the same question
- 43:07Evan: asking, you know, too, is, well, here's the, actually, this is a separate question.
- 43:11Evan: This is a, why would Pai Mei train them knowing that they're using their,
- 43:18Evan: you know, the knowledge from him to just essentially be assassins?
- 43:22Evan: Don't you think he would have not done it unless they lied to him? How would he know?
- 43:27Libby: I mean, they say he's like 4,000 years old, right?
- 43:31Libby: And Bill says, like, you know, he gets lonely.
- 43:37Libby: What the fuck else is he doing?
- 43:39Evan: I know.
- 43:40Libby: It's not. And he's probably getting paid.
- 43:43Libby: I can't imagine that Bill doesn't, like, he doesn't say, like,
- 43:46Libby: you got to give me money. I mean, what's he going to spend his money on? He's got.
- 43:50Evan: That nice house and that's it, right?
- 43:52Libby: Lives like he lives like off grid well.
- 43:55Evan: He has that at the end of the second movie he does have that where does he live
- 43:58Evan: arizona i don't remember where he lives i forget but whatever it is he lives
- 44:03Evan: in that really oh mexico right he lives yeah you're right he does live off the
- 44:06Evan: grid in this beautiful place it probably cost you know a hundred thousand dollars
- 44:10Evan: because it's not you know who knows how the who built that and.
- 44:15Libby: He paid that off two thousand years ago like he's four thousand years old but
- 44:19Libby: like like they he says like there's like a legend about paimei.
- 44:23Evan: And that.
- 44:23Libby: Like with like the monk gave him like gave him a or didn't smile back at him
- 44:28Libby: or something and then he killed everybody at the monk place.
- 44:31Evan: So another funny actually so this actually reminds me of so in
- 44:34Evan: the movie the han hattori hanzo
- 44:37Evan: the guy played by sony chiba apparently at some point in it they mentioned he's
- 44:42Evan: like uh hattori hanzo 100 and the reason why they made that joke or that line
- 44:48Evan: was apparently Sonichiba was on some TV show where he would die or be gone and
- 44:53Evan: the next episode would return as like a different version of himself. Like,
- 44:58Evan: number 52 or whatever number the third the fifth and so there was just like
- 45:02Evan: the joke to call them like the hundredth because i have no idea how many episodes
- 45:07Evan: the show had but presumably like,
- 45:10Evan: that's the joke and so yeah there's lots of uh that's kind of a pointless fact
- 45:14Evan: but i do think it's funny that they all i know i love the scene where where
- 45:18Evan: uma thurman is training and he you know he throws the sword and it lands perfectly
- 45:24Evan: inside of its holster and the little uh thing on
- 45:27Evan: the side jumps on the jumps on the sword yeah it's just yeah the.
- 45:30Libby: One thing that one thing that bothers me and this is a
- 45:33Libby: continuity thing but um when they show uma
- 45:36Libby: therming uma thurman coming up the stairs holding the
- 45:40Libby: bucket of water her stick arms are so like not muscular the way that she would
- 45:46Libby: be training like for like they said it was like a year or two years or something
- 45:51Libby: if she's training that hard with paime that whole time there's no way that she
- 45:56Libby: wasn't getting jacked like i it's just not possible.
- 45:59Evan: Yeah that's that it is interesting that she doesn't have you know it's not like
- 46:03Evan: she doesn't have um like uh the arms from terminator 2 with um the fuck's her
- 46:10Evan: name oh sarah connor's arms.
- 46:12Libby: Oh her oh man i work out so hard i'll never get there.
- 46:16Evan: But like because you we did that we did that we discussed that movie like she
- 46:20Evan: has she's jacked in that movie It must have been a thing where she was learning
- 46:24Evan: martial arts and not lifting weights. I don't know.
- 46:28Libby: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know because I train MMA and my arms start getting jacked from that.
- 46:35Evan: Yeah.
- 46:35Libby: So it says, I don't know. And, and the move when she like, um,
- 46:40Libby: goes after O-Ren and she like hops
- 46:42Libby: up and she's holding herself up on the ceiling. That is so fucking hard.
- 46:47Libby: There's no way like I, I train hard and I could never hold myself up like that.
- 46:53Evan: I would imagine she, that was probably if, if it was someone actually doing
- 46:57Evan: that, it'd be like the stunt double.
- 46:59Evan: But so here's is what it says. So apparently she trained for...
- 47:02Evan: So she had just had her baby in real life.
- 47:05Evan: So they paused the movie for a year because Uma Thurman had a baby.
- 47:09Evan: And also Harvey Weinstein wanted to find a new person.
- 47:13Evan: Tarantino says, if you do that, I'm not going to make the movie.
- 47:15Evan: And so he's like, fine, we'll wait.
- 47:17Evan: And so after she had her baby for three to five months, for eight hours a day,
- 47:22Evan: Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, David Carradine spent eight hours per day
- 47:27Evan: just studying martial arts it doesn't say they were doing weights and things
- 47:31Evan: like that it was just simply like martial arts moves huh for eight hours a day
- 47:35Evan: for three months that's just i mean i assume you get paid for that shit but god damn for.
- 47:39Libby: Like for three months.
- 47:40Evan: Yeah i mean well that's that's the thing too you were i mean.
- 47:43Libby: You put in the hours you gotta know something.
- 47:45Evan: Well you were saying why did derrick david caradine have to spend three months
- 47:49Evan: doing that if he had like no fighting scenes in the movie yeah.
- 47:52Libby: Doesn't yeah maybe that maybe he had other their ideas and they just didn't come to fruition.
- 47:57Evan: That's true maybe he like he faked also he probably it probably would be cool
- 48:02Evan: i don't know if you're making millions of dollars on movies,
- 48:06Evan: i don't know what else you got to do yeah i don't know that'd be especially
- 48:10Evan: since they pay for all your training like this it reminds me of um maybe.
- 48:14Libby: It's a team building exercise.
- 48:15Evan: Yeah well it reminds to get like yeah oh to just do it all together what reminds
- 48:19Evan: me of like chris pratt how he went Went from not a lean, strong guy to doing
- 48:26Evan: – I remember once I saw his training regimen.
- 48:28Evan: It was something like six months of nine hours of training a day or something insane.
- 48:33Evan: He went from just a random dude to just being absolutely jacked.
- 48:37Libby: Like the singer from Mouse Rat to like – Yeah.
- 48:43Evan: It's like to Brad Pitt in Fight Club.
- 48:45Libby: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:47Evan: Yeah. Yeah, so that was the other thing I was writing down.
- 48:51Evan: What was some other thing I was going to mention about it?
- 48:55Evan: Yeah, I mean, I think it's, so apparently, so Uma, this is more like just a fact about the movie.
- 49:00Evan: Apparently, Uma Thurman, when they were making Pulp Fiction,
- 49:03Evan: was just sitting down with Quentin Tarantino.
- 49:05Evan: And they were just kind of like shooting the shit, you know,
- 49:07Evan: having other ideas. And that's when they came up with the movie.
- 49:10Libby: Yeah, they came up with this character idea.
- 49:12Evan: Yeah. And they're basically like, wouldn't it be cool if it was just,
- 49:15Evan: you know, this woman who's out for revenge, and then he apparently wrote some
- 49:20Evan: of the script, and then after Pulp Fiction, I guess, finished it or whatever, and,
- 49:25Evan: It's crazy to be like doing one movie and you're making another.
- 49:28Libby: I don't know that when they open the second movie and she's like in the car
- 49:33Libby: giving the backstory and she's like, and when I get to my destination, I'm gonna kill Bill.
- 49:40Libby: That's so fucking cool. Like it's it revs me up every time.
- 49:44Evan: I mean, he is so in Pulp Fiction, essentially a huge chunk of the movie is about revenge.
- 49:49Evan: I mean, the yeah, I mean, I'm trying to think of other for other Tarantino.
- 49:53Evan: I mean, the entire movie plot of Inglourious Basterds is essentially revenge,
- 49:58Evan: you know, against Nazis, you know, for- The Nazis. Yeah, like,
- 50:01Evan: fuck that. Yeah, you know, you could- Django.
- 50:03Libby: Unchained with that.
- 50:05Evan: You know? Yeah, is Grindhouse? I think actually Grindhouse is the only Tarantino
- 50:09Evan: movie I haven't seen, so I don't know.
- 50:11Libby: I haven't seen that one either. I gotta sit down. Yeah, I'll do that one.
- 50:14Evan: I think that's the only one. I was trying to see if that's the only one I haven't- because he has nine.
- 50:18Evan: Like, technically he has 10 movies, but this one counts as one,
- 50:22Evan: even though it's two parts. So he has Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction,
- 50:25Evan: Jackie Brown, The Kill Bill, Death Proof, and Glorious Bastards,
- 50:29Evan: Django Unchained, Hateful Eight, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
- 50:32Evan: And actually, I love Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That's another really good one.
- 50:36Libby: That's one I haven't seen. I should watch that.
- 50:38Evan: And that one's sort of like historical fiction-ish. Like there's people in it
- 50:44Evan: that are, you know, like...
- 50:45Libby: Does he really have like feet in every movie? because in kill bill like they
- 50:51Libby: have the scene where she's like wiggle your big toe.
- 50:54Evan: Yeah and.
- 50:55Libby: Like they show her like bunions.
- 50:56Evan: Every time every time i see one of those scenes like that it's i just kind of
- 51:00Evan: cringe a little bit being like oh really i'm in reservoir dogs there's no feet we.
- 51:07Libby: Don't need that quentin tarantino.
- 51:10Evan: Well pulp fiction's like the famous one where apparently the character uh when
- 51:15Evan: uh marcellus wallace kills um kills uh someone for giving his wife a foot massage
- 51:21Evan: like that's the plot in the movie right.
- 51:24Libby: That's right yeah.
- 51:26Evan: So and.
- 51:26Libby: Like they're talking about the like nuances of like how how intimate is a foot.
- 51:34Evan: Massage yeah yeah and like.
- 51:35Libby: Comparing it to like eating pussy well.
- 51:38Evan: Yeah that actually reminded me there's another what was that you You just said
- 51:42Evan: something. Oh, nevermind. It was a, it was a different, it's true.
- 51:45Evan: Romance is a different movie. Also written by current Quentin Tarantino.
- 51:48Evan: And there's some foot shit in that movie too. He just loves feet.
- 51:51Libby: Oh, I haven't.
- 51:52Evan: Oh, that's a, that's a really good, uh, it's not directed by Quentin Tarantino,
- 51:56Evan: but he wrote it to make money to sell to, he sold the script so he can make his first movie. Uh,
- 52:03Evan: reservoir dogs which is you know.
- 52:06Libby: Gosh i have i i my life
- 52:09Libby: if you think of a movie and like has libby
- 52:12Libby: seen this movie the answer is likely no and
- 52:16Libby: i have made it a point to watch movies that i definitely should have seen by
- 52:21Libby: this time in my life that i get on the treadmill i watch the movie and and following
- 52:28Libby: along to this podcast it makes it so i watch the fucking movies like i have never
- 52:33Libby: seen them i have heard of them but like didn't put it together well.
- 52:37Evan: I mean i mean there's it's funny like i obviously watch
- 52:40Evan: movies for this show usually it's movies i've seen not every time but then there's
- 52:45Evan: tons of movies that i watch them like you know i watch it it's a movie that
- 52:49Evan: came out you know in the 90s or 80s that i haven't seen so there's there's just
- 52:53Evan: so many fucking movies i mean to you can't can't.
- 52:57Libby: See yeah i used to be like picky about it now i'm just like oh Oh,
- 53:00Libby: Fried Green Tomatoes. All right. Well, now I'm crying on the treadmill.
- 53:04Evan: I haven't seen that movie in a long time.
- 53:06Libby: Yeah. That one, I did really enjoy that movie.
- 53:10Libby: It's a couple of gal pals that they had to have coded. It's very sweet.
- 53:15Evan: Yeah. I don't know if I've seen that movie, but not for ages.
- 53:19Evan: Yeah. I mean, it's funny. I think I tell you, I'm like, oh, these are the movies
- 53:22Evan: I have coming up for episodes.
- 53:24Evan: You're like, oh, well, I got to go watch those movies.
- 53:26Libby: Yeah. Well, and then I'm like, okay, these are the movies I'm going to watch
- 53:28Libby: on the treadmill all this week. That's how I do it. Otherwise,
- 53:32Libby: I'd never pick out the movies for myself.
- 53:34Evan: Well, I mean, in general, I used to have the hardest time. I mean,
- 53:37Evan: this is probably speaking to like the streaming era of, you know,
- 53:41Evan: like you're sitting down, you know, with your wife, your friend,
- 53:44Evan: you're like, oh, I'm going to watch a movie now.
- 53:45Evan: And then you spend 45 minutes clicking through like seven different apps.
- 53:49Evan: You're like, well, we spent too much time doing that.
- 53:51Evan: We're not going to watch a movie. But now I've like collected a list of movies
- 53:54Evan: movies that i want to watch and so it's easier at least to pick a movie i used to be very much uh,
- 54:00Evan: having a hard time picking now i'm just like well i gotta watch a movie for
- 54:03Evan: the podcast i'm gonna do and then i'll just watch
- 54:06Evan: a movie for fun separately or you know well i guess oh yeah i won't announce
- 54:09Evan: it here i guess i could cut i'll send it to you after i was just gonna think
- 54:12Evan: i was just thinking of the movies that i'm doing in the near future that i'll
- 54:16Evan: i can share with you offline i want anyone to no one can uh i guess who gives
- 54:22Evan: a shit if people know what movies are coming out I don't know.
- 54:26Libby: You got to keep it exclusive.
- 54:27Evan: Well, I mean, it doesn't, I mean, if people, they see the movie posted,
- 54:31Evan: that's always a thing I always wonder is, it's impossible to know.
- 54:36Libby: I like to have seen the movie before I listened to the episode so that there's no spoiler.
- 54:42Evan: That's the thing I always wonder is, would people listen to a movie they've
- 54:47Evan: not seen knowing that they're going to obviously know what happens?
- 54:53Libby: No, I never do. I never do that. Yeah, I only listen if I've seen the movie.
- 54:58Libby: Sometimes if I haven't seen it in a long time, it's fun to listen to it and
- 55:02Libby: kind of re-watch the movie without actually watching it and listening to other
- 55:07Libby: people's commentary on it. It's kind of cool.
- 55:10Evan: I find I've listened to some other movie podcasts and some of the ones I do,
- 55:14Evan: if it's a movie that I just don't think I'm ever going to see,
- 55:16Evan: like, oh, yeah, I've heard of that movie.
- 55:18Evan: I probably don't really want to see it. Then I don't care if it gets spoiled
- 55:21Evan: for me, you know, or if it's a movie that I want to watch. And I'm like,
- 55:25Evan: oh, there's another podcast that I like. They've been on this show, The Concessions.
- 55:29Evan: And they do, you know, movies that I haven't seen or whatever.
- 55:33Evan: It's like, oh, you did this movie. Now I got to watch it and then listen to
- 55:37Evan: it. So I understand the, understand it.
- 55:40Evan: But I'm trying to think if there's anything from the movies.
- 55:42Evan: I don't like have any other.
- 55:45Evan: So here's, so this, this happened recently with another podcast episode.
- 55:49Evan: Like when you think about this movie from a leftist, like perspective,
- 55:53Evan: I don't really, I don't, I don't, I don't know. I don't see much.
- 55:59Evan: I mean, we haven't even really, like we've gone to minute.
- 56:03Libby: Yeah, there's not, there's not like, I mean, I guess they're getting paid vast
- 56:07Libby: sums of money and B gives up the money to go live a humble little life,
- 56:14Libby: like, and being a working class
- 56:17Libby: mom with this like dumb guy from a record store. well then at the very.
- 56:21Evan: End of the whole thing when she runs away with her daughter i mean she has no
- 56:25Evan: money right like she's broke she's they're staying in like a little motel.
- 56:29Libby: Yeah i don't know i imagine that she
- 56:32Libby: knew where a suitcase full of money at bill's house would be she'd saved like
- 56:36Libby: she's got the sword she could pawn this she could she i'm certain she could
- 56:40Libby: find somewhere to be do you know what though like this isn't on the leftist
- 56:45Libby: perspective topic but the scene at the very end where she's,
- 56:49Libby: like, on the floor crying,
- 56:50Libby: like, escaping with her daughter.
- 56:52Libby: She's, like, laugh-crying and, like...
- 56:57Libby: that hard relate to that
- 57:00Libby: bathroom floor cry laugh of
- 57:04Libby: like my whole like this overwhelm everything
- 57:07Libby: has come to fruition i am like i got my daughter back everybody's dead that
- 57:13Libby: i wanted to be dead and then maybe that's her processing like she's finally
- 57:18Libby: able to like address her getting raped for years while she was in a coma like
- 57:22Libby: um like emotionally at that point where it just like Like,
- 57:26Libby: she's, like, crying on the bathroom floor.
- 57:29Libby: If there's anything to relate to in life is that bathroom floor,
- 57:34Libby: fetal position, laugh, cry. It's absolutely, yeah.
- 57:39Evan: I was going to say, like, not much of the movie is sort of relatable except
- 57:43Evan: for, you know, like, her trauma and then specifically, you know,
- 57:47Evan: the relief of, like, it being over.
- 57:48Evan: But then now she has to actually come to terms with the fact that she may not
- 57:53Evan: realize how many times she had been raped while she was in a coma,
- 57:56Evan: but she had some fucked up stuff. She was buried alive.
- 58:00Evan: I mean, her therapist is going to have a lot to talk about.
- 58:05Evan: But yeah.
- 58:06Libby: And then she's going to parent through it to this child who's a stranger to her.
- 58:11Evan: Yeah, but it's weird, though. Even though she was a stranger to her,
- 58:14Evan: it seemed like at least the only thing that Bill did that was probably kind,
- 58:19Evan: it seemed like he talked good about her while the whole time to essentially
- 58:25Evan: be like, we know when she comes.
- 58:28Libby: It was kind of cool too, the conversation that Bill and Bea had,
- 58:35Libby: that it was like they both...
- 58:38Libby: Had the same amount of anger for each other, the same amount of forgiveness,
- 58:43Libby: and the same amount of acceptance that one of them needed to die that night.
- 58:48Libby: Like, they came together as emotional equals at that point.
- 58:53Evan: Yeah, that's true. That whole conversation, whether, you know,
- 58:58Evan: in his apartment or, what is it, house, whatever it is, is pretty...
- 59:03Libby: When he shoots her with the truth serum shit that he made?
- 59:06Evan: Yeah, that's, yeah, right. I forgot about that. Doesn't he also tell a story about Superman, right?
- 59:13Libby: Yeah, so like how Spider-Man has to put the costume on to become Spider-Man,
- 59:20Libby: but Superman has to take the costume off to be Superman.
- 59:24Evan: Yes, that's right. I had the script open before and I was going to mention that
- 59:29Evan: part, but for some reason the one that I chose was not searchable, so I couldn't pull it up.
- 59:34Evan: Oh yeah, I think he also says Batman is... Yeah, right. Right.
- 59:37Evan: So he says, yeah, it's kind of a stupid scene where he's like,
- 59:44Evan: oh, I'm really keen on comic books, especially superheroes.
- 59:46Evan: And then he's talking about them. It's very kind of-
- 59:49Libby: Until the truth serum.
- 59:51Evan: Kicks in. Right. That's what he's doing. I think he also was joking about how
- 59:54Evan: Clark Kent wears glasses and the business suit, and that's his costume.
- 59:59Evan: He does it to blend in.
- 1:00:02Libby: That is.
- 1:00:03Evan: Actually an interesting little- you know take.
- 1:00:06Libby: On that calling.
- 1:00:07Evan: You a killer like she you know is you know she is a natural born killer like
- 1:00:12Evan: he's she she recognized that she's actually as you said before she is a terrible
- 1:00:17Evan: person she's made horrible decisions in her life and now she can decide to you know not do that.
- 1:00:23Libby: Imagine having all of that shit become your biggest turning point in life all
- 1:00:28Libby: of the shit leading up to that to make her be like all right i gotta settle
- 1:00:32Libby: down and get my act together here after being like a bathroom floor cry and
- 1:00:36Libby: live a good life after this yeah.
- 1:00:39Evan: Actually now that i think about it remember she she goes to japan she flies
- 1:00:43Evan: to japan and like stays there so she had money my guess is she must have like
- 1:00:47Evan: an offshore account or something where she has money.
- 1:00:49Libby: Yeah oh one thing the
- 1:00:52Libby: yellow suit in japan i i
- 1:00:57Libby: wish that i could i have tried to
- 1:01:00Libby: put together that costume in the past like I love that
- 1:01:03Libby: get up and I got like yellow leggings
- 1:01:06Libby: I got a blonde wig I got like a yellow vest thing and I put it all on and I
- 1:01:12Libby: looked in the mirror and I just looked like Britney Spears with camel toe like
- 1:01:16Libby: I did not look like Uma Thurman in the yellow suit and I I really I have I'll
- 1:01:22Libby: have to like sit and like actually sew it with like a pattern,
- 1:01:26Libby: and make it but that that is it's the coolest get up and like with the sword
- 1:01:32Libby: she's got the shoes and the matching like crotch rocket motorcycle with the helmet it's awesome.
- 1:01:39Evan: Yeah well i think the the yellow suit is what um bruce lee wore in um i think
- 1:01:45Evan: it's in the last dragon or one of those movies so it's like another homage to
- 1:01:49Evan: that but i also love when she when she walks Walks into the restaurant or the bar or whatever,
- 1:01:55Evan: and the dance floor is clear,
- 1:01:57Evan: so you can see from underneath her walking across,
- 1:02:01Evan: and that's just a fucking cool shot. I love that. I love that.
- 1:02:04Libby: Yeah. There's so much cool shit in this movie that, like, you know,
- 1:02:08Libby: Quentin Tarantino, he's a weirdo, but it's made up for with cool shit in the movie.
- 1:02:13Evan: Yeah, that is one thing. I mean, it's one of those, like, you know,
- 1:02:17Evan: you can separate his probably shitty politics, he's a Zionist and,
- 1:02:21Evan: you know, piece of shit kind of person in real life, but he makes good art, you know?
- 1:02:27Libby: I know um gogo the girl assassin
- 1:02:31Libby: like um oren's like uh
- 1:02:34Libby: bodyguard like the little child who's like 19 or
- 1:02:37Libby: something like that it it's kind of cool where she's like at a bar and there's
- 1:02:42Libby: like this creepy old guy trying to talk to her and she's like do you want to
- 1:02:47Libby: fuck me and he's like yeah and she's like all right and then like fucking stabs
- 1:02:51Libby: him in the dick like that's it's awesome i forgot.
- 1:02:55Evan: About that scene that is pretty uh.
- 1:02:56Libby: She's like i'm penetrating you.
- 1:03:00Evan: Yeah that like yeah that's there that's a goes back to like the very single
- 1:03:04Evan: the like the main theme is that they they don't take shit from anyone like none
- 1:03:11Evan: of them do you know none of the daryl.
- 1:03:13Libby: Ham you know.
- 1:03:14Evan: Uh every single one of them is not taking.
- 1:03:18Libby: Sofi sofi's a little soft but But, you know, I.
- 1:03:22Evan: Think I think I saw sometime recently, apparently they're going to re-release
- 1:03:26Evan: the the the shoes from that. I think at some point they did release them.
- 1:03:32Evan: And now, like, if you go on eBay, they're like 400 bucks because they don't make them anymore.
- 1:03:35Evan: But I think they're going to make them again because there's the yellow shoes.
- 1:03:39Libby: Yeah. Oh, hell yeah.
- 1:03:41Evan: I once had those.
- 1:03:42Libby: I don't buy I don't buy new anything. I only buy like thrifted clothes.
- 1:03:46Libby: and if I do buy new shoes, it's like I agonize over the fucking company, their ethics.
- 1:03:53Libby: I know not everybody can do that. I will maybe set that standard aside for those
- 1:04:01Libby: yellow shoes. That's one exception.
- 1:04:04Evan: I have no idea how... Yeah. Looking online now, you can buy them for,
- 1:04:10Evan: from when they were released, whenever that was, for like $200, $300.
- 1:04:14Evan: But I guess if they were to just be released as themselves, they'd probably
- 1:04:19Evan: be like $100, maybe. I don't know.
- 1:04:22Libby: Yeah. I don't know. I'd be into having a pair of those shoes real hard.
- 1:04:26Evan: They're pretty cool. I mean, I'm not a fan of yellow clothing just generally, just not my color.
- 1:04:33Evan: But I don't think I would wear these shoes, but in a different color,
- 1:04:36Evan: they'd be pretty cool. like a i would.
- 1:04:39Libby: Wear it with the whole get up oh i love it.
- 1:04:42Evan: I'm shut i.
- 1:04:43Libby: Don't even need to get on a motorcycle just wear the get up to like the grocery
- 1:04:47Libby: store with the yellow shoes.
- 1:04:48Evan: Oh it's funny you mentioned that hell the not the helicopter the motorcycle
- 1:04:51Evan: it's also when she kidnaps the sophie right like puts her in the trunk and doesn't
- 1:04:56Evan: kill her wait doesn't she like not kill her because she She wants her to tell the story, right?
- 1:05:02Libby: Yeah, she's like, I want them to know I know. I want them to know I know that they know I know.
- 1:05:08Libby: And goes through that circle like eight times.
- 1:05:15Libby: Yeah, and she's like, I'm going to cut something off, and it will be something you'll miss.
- 1:05:20Libby: And then they see it. She dumps her on a hill, and she rolls down a log with no arms.
- 1:05:28Libby: it's so cool like no one would survive that like you have arteries that you're
- 1:05:33Libby: gonna bleed out that like from losing your arms but man it's awesome anyway
- 1:05:39Libby: you know like you gotta set that aside yeah.
- 1:05:42Evan: It's what's one of those you just have to suspend most of your uh.
- 1:05:46Libby: Yeah when um when she cuts off
- 1:05:49Libby: the top of oren's head like i don't like how like it looks like they could have
- 1:05:54Libby: done a better job with the special effects but it really brought me back to
- 1:05:59Libby: like in hannibal lector where like he's like messing with his brain at dinner
- 1:06:04Libby: like i just it just reminds me of that scene so much with like her brain showing on top well.
- 1:06:09Evan: I think um because there aren't because all that was like practical effects
- 1:06:13Evan: so i mean i guess that's if they had done it with because Cause there was no
- 1:06:16Evan: computer generated anything.
- 1:06:17Evan: I don't think in any of the two, like the scenes in the, in the,
- 1:06:22Evan: like the huge fights in a lot of it's like they're on wires and,
- 1:06:25Evan: you know, flying around.
- 1:06:26Evan: And I gotta say like that scene is crazy.
- 1:06:29Libby: Well, but like the, if you're going to cut off the top of the head,
- 1:06:32Libby: you can't just have like a regular head with a brain showing like it has, I don't know.
- 1:06:37Libby: It was a little, they could have done a better job with it, but you went, you go with it.
- 1:06:42Evan: Yeah. I mean, of all the things I'd say, you know, it's fine.
- 1:06:45Libby: Um
- 1:06:45Evan: I don't think i have anything else on the movies anything you had on your little on your scorecard.
- 1:06:52Libby: The only other line i like i
- 1:06:55Libby: really love too is when the um strip club guy with the cocaine he says to like
- 1:07:01Libby: the stripper he like gives her cocaine and he's like be somebody and like she
- 1:07:07Libby: like does a line they're just sitting in his office it's like four o'clock in the afternoon.
- 1:07:13Evan: I don't remember that exact line, but that's pretty funny. Like the...
- 1:07:16Evan: Be somebody. A lot of the script is... It definitely is a funny...
- 1:07:20Evan: Like, you know, all of his movies have humor in them, obviously,
- 1:07:23Evan: but I think this one has a lot of,
- 1:07:26Evan: funny bits that kind of uh separates the tension from all the just murdering.
- 1:07:31Libby: Yeah there's a lot of great lines
- 1:07:34Libby: like yeah i think my favorite favorite if
- 1:07:38Libby: i had to choose from all of them is oren
- 1:07:41Libby: on top of the table just cut
- 1:07:44Libby: the guy's head off if any of you sons of bitches that lot it's the best like
- 1:07:49Libby: now's the fucking time and i wish i could pull that one out like in my real
- 1:07:54Libby: life and if you if you put buds like i'm gonna empty this whole goddamn can
- 1:08:00Libby: right in your eyeball well that's yeah that's actually.
- 1:08:03Evan: Yeah sometimes whatever what ends up happening i'm like oh i'm gonna add all
- 1:08:06Evan: these clips and then i get lazy and i just add one or none because it.
- 1:08:11Libby: Just doesn't take that much time there's just so many that's great and the i
- 1:08:15Libby: love it and like the pie may laugh that's great oh yeah.
- 1:08:18Evan: Well yeah it's one thing we forgot to mention is that the that l fucking kills
- 1:08:23Evan: him by poisoning his fish because she's like a she's just cruel.
- 1:08:28Libby: Yeah yeah she just him so she's like fuck you and he's like thousands of years
- 1:08:35Libby: old in this you know legend and she like,
- 1:08:39Libby: i guess that is like consistent too because she was she like wanted to kill
- 1:08:45Libby: b just like in her sleep with like you know that poison shit whatever that like
- 1:08:50Libby: she's fine with like these not honorable ways of killing people that's.
- 1:08:54Evan: True none of her ways like she kills bud by not really doing anything by putting
- 1:08:59Evan: the snakes and yeah she doesn't have she's she's more like the kind of killer
- 1:09:03Evan: that would dress up as something and then trick you into doing something as opposed to.
- 1:09:07Libby: Yeah like she does it like more of a prank than anything yeah.
- 1:09:11Evan: The nurse's outfit's also pretty ridiculous.
- 1:09:13Libby: Yeah it's real cool the eye patch with the fucking cross on it it's so cool forgot.
- 1:09:19Evan: About But yeah, Kill Bill, volume one and two for people that hasn't seen in
- 1:09:28Evan: a long time. I think they're fun movies.
- 1:09:32Evan: Say what you will about Quentin Tarantino, you might think he's a piece of shit.
- 1:09:35Libby: I know. It's unfortunate, but I can't let that movie go. I love it so much.
- 1:09:39Evan: There's a bunch of movies I like that are produced by Harvey Weinstein.
- 1:09:44Evan: This one was produced by Harvey Weinstein.
- 1:09:48Libby: That's why I don't go do the research. on that because it's like I gotta not know.
- 1:09:52Evan: Yeah it's one of those things where once you yeah you go down the you go down all the yeah,
- 1:10:01Evan: That's all I got, but...
- 1:10:02Libby: It turns to ashes in your mouth.
- 1:10:03Evan: I know. It does sometimes. There's certain ones where, you know,
- 1:10:07Evan: maybe it's beyond the pale where you're just like, well, fuck this thing, but...
- 1:10:11Libby: Yeah, well, like, you know, like now when you look back at old movies with like
- 1:10:15Libby: a modern view, you go, oh, fuck, that was really racist. I can't like this movie anymore.
- 1:10:21Evan: Like every comedy from the early 2000s.
- 1:10:24Libby: Yeah, like, okay, and Idiocracy. That's a really good example.
- 1:10:29Libby: we all loved that movie when it came out and then to look at it as an adult
- 1:10:32Libby: we're like oh fuck that was about eugenics and oh my god i.
- 1:10:37Evan: Argue with people about that all the time that no one no one will.
- 1:10:41Libby: Fucking yeah like they don't see it and but if you go and watch it and it's
- 1:10:45Libby: like they use the arse for a bunch dude like you can't like we were fine with
- 1:10:50Libby: it then but now as adults you go and look at it with a mature lens and it's
- 1:10:55Libby: you know you gotta let those favorites go i don't want to let kill bill yeah well.
- 1:11:00Evan: I think like every every um uh judd movie from like the early 2000 with you
- 1:11:06Evan: know all those movies have just i don't know comedy is a hard genre for like
- 1:11:10Evan: it to hold up because so much of it is based on the time period but anyway that's all i got but uh libby,
- 1:11:17Evan: as a as always thank you for uh for coming on.
- 1:11:20Libby: Yeah thank you for doing this movie i love this fucking movie.
- 1:11:24Libby: Thank you for having me on.
- 1:11:26Libby: And I hope everybody, ladies,
- 1:11:31Libby: anybody who is involved with male partners, I suggest when they are disappointing,
- 1:11:38Libby: watch this movie while you eat ice cream and instead of crying,
- 1:11:43Libby: watch this movie and you'll feel better.
- 1:11:45Evan: Instead of watching When Harry Met Sally, watch Kill Bill.
- 1:11:48Libby: Watch Kill Bill.
- 1:11:49Evan: I think for me, if I was choosing between those two, it would be no contest. that she's Kill Bill.
- 1:11:54Evan: I don't like when Harry Met Sally, but that's for...
- 1:11:57Libby: And if you have to only watch one, watch Kill Bill 2.
- 1:12:01Evan: That's true. And you don't really need to know the stuff. Just go on Wikipedia.
- 1:12:05Evan: Just listen to this. You already know what happens.
- 1:12:08Evan: But yeah, anyone listening, you can subscribe, do all those internet things, and catch you next time.
