- 0:00Speaker 1: What's going on everybody. We wanted to let you know.
- 0:02Speaker 1: This podcast episode was recorded on Wednesday, July twenty fourth,
- 0:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. By the time you hear this, some
- 0:08Speaker 1: things may have changed here or there, but we hope
- 0:10Speaker 1: you enjoy the show. Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:47Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:50Speaker 1: in the world, eleven years strong. We got a great
- 0:53Speaker 1: show for you this week. We're gonna be getting into
- 0:55Speaker 1: some Phillies talk, of course, right off the bat, second
- 0:58Speaker 1: half the season has started, team struggling a little bit here.
- 1:02Speaker 1: From there, we're gonna talk about an Olympics story, actually
- 1:05Speaker 1: a quote pre Olympics story, the Canadians women's soccer coach
- 1:09Speaker 1: and team boy. They were being naughty doing a little
- 1:12Speaker 1: spying on another team. And from there we're gonna get
- 1:15Speaker 1: into some quick basketball talk WNBA All Star Game, the
- 1:18Speaker 1: Sixers making a signing with a veteran guard, and then
- 1:22Speaker 1: from there we got a ton of Eagles talk. Our
- 1:24Speaker 1: guests this week and what we're throwing down on the table.
- 1:26Speaker 1: We've got a Lexus Chasin from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com
- 1:30Speaker 1: to talk about the start of training camp. What we're
- 1:31Speaker 1: gonna be seeing here. So I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here,
- 1:34Speaker 1: my buddy Eric Leonard.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Eric.
- 1:36Speaker 1: How you doing? Man?
- 1:37Speaker 2: Well? I started working again like five weeks ago.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Oh good to have a job, I know.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And like you know, like we don't do physical labor,
- 1:46Speaker 2: you and I no for work, but just the mental
- 1:50Speaker 2: like not doing a damn thing for like three and
- 1:52Speaker 2: a half months besides looking for a god and walking
- 1:54Speaker 2: your dog and just doing nothing. Just the mental stress
- 1:59Speaker 2: and like actually doing a doing a job again. Holy hell, man,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I'm hired just from that. And it's I'm as tired
- 2:08Speaker 2: as the Phillies, look right.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Well you have a new experience too, because you've
- 2:13Speaker 1: always worked in an office atmosphere, an office environment. Now
- 2:17Speaker 1: you've got a lot of remote work that you are doing,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and that in itself is a different experience. And folks,
- 2:23Speaker 1: if you don't work remotely, look, I've been doing it
- 2:26Speaker 1: since the pandemic. The nonprofit that I work for, my
- 2:29Speaker 1: boss wants a hybrid of that. I do go into
- 2:32Speaker 1: an office every now and again, but I mainly work
- 2:35Speaker 1: from home. And there are stressors at home too, there
- 2:38Speaker 1: are distractions. You have to be like, you just have
- 2:40Speaker 1: to be mentally able to go from one thing to another,
- 2:43Speaker 1: to another to another, and that gets taxing during the
- 2:45Speaker 1: course of a day. And you're going through that too.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I just like I took a spare room and
- 2:51Speaker 2: turned into an office and just to pass the time sometimes,
- 2:55Speaker 2: because you know, nobody works eight straight hours. No, nobody
- 2:57Speaker 2: does it. She does that, right, So I'll notice one
- 2:59Speaker 2: of the thing, like I missed a spot of paint
- 3:01Speaker 2: in that corner ship. You know, just sit there and
- 3:03Speaker 2: look at it like a minute or two. Well I'll
- 3:06Speaker 2: be like I didn't do wordle yet. Let mean wordle right,
- 3:10Speaker 2: So yeah, like little little things distract you because there's
- 3:13Speaker 2: no one like in an aufice. Like you're just trying
- 3:15Speaker 2: to work and you know, some guy, some guy you
- 3:17Speaker 2: can't stand, comes by just the game last night because
- 3:21Speaker 2: he knows you do you know they do a podcast, right?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Are you gonna talk about that on the podcast this
- 3:26Speaker 1: next week?
- 3:28Speaker 2: He's like a Pirates fan, Like, no, I don't, yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 2: talk about that crap.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You have kids like I do. During the course of
- 3:35Speaker 1: the summer, they are home and they'll come up to you, Dad,
- 3:38Speaker 1: can't you drive me to the amusement park?
- 3:40Speaker 2: No?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Please? I'm in the middle of writing a press release here,
- 3:44Speaker 1: no I can't.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Or or I'm on a I'm on a call with
- 3:47Speaker 2: three of my German peers, trying to understand them.
- 3:51Speaker 1: My son will pocket You're.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Gonna do something later today?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, man, I love this too. Look, I
- 3:57Speaker 1: love my kids. Of course they they they're honor students,
- 4:01Speaker 1: they are in National Junior Honor Society. They're smart kids
- 4:05Speaker 1: and stuff. But sometimes, like the perception, you gotta you
- 4:07Speaker 1: gotta understand what's going on around you a little bit,
- 4:09Speaker 1: because there are times I'm on a zoom call, for
- 4:11Speaker 1: God's sake, with something work related. I'm talking. Do they
- 4:15Speaker 1: think I'm just talking to myself out loud? And then
- 4:18Speaker 1: they'll just come over, Hey, dad, do you mind if
- 4:20Speaker 1: you make me? And I'm like, and I'm like pointing
- 4:23Speaker 1: to my computer. I'm like, I'm on my call.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Here, you know, Oh sorry, I mean I did tell
- 4:31Speaker 2: them the one time. This would be like you getting
- 4:33Speaker 2: in a car and driving to my old office and
- 4:35Speaker 2: just walking in, going dude, are we gonna do something?
- 4:39Speaker 2: In the middle of a one on one with one
- 4:40Speaker 2: of my people, Like, oh my god, I love that
- 4:44Speaker 2: we're complaining about our kids here during the summer.
- 4:47Speaker 1: We really love our families, folks.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We do. But we'll say that right now. We're both solo. Yes,
- 4:53Speaker 2: so our families are out of the house and we
- 4:55Speaker 2: love our families, Jeff and I. But yes, it is
- 4:59Speaker 2: really nice.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm saying it's like a mental holiday.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. I mean, I come home and my
- 5:06Speaker 2: dog jumps up and he's like it's time to go out,
- 5:08Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh, come on, man, why do you
- 5:10Speaker 2: go with him? To have nothing to do?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Like, oh my god. We should just have an entire
- 5:17Speaker 1: podcast on this. Forget the forget the Phillies, forget the Eagles.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I've been in boxers and a T shirt all day long.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That's how it's done.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, calls on can so I whatever, you don't.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Have to, That's how you gotta do it, folks, boxers,
- 5:32Speaker 1: T shirt and for the ladies out there, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 1: whatever undergarments you have, just sit around all day. And I'm.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So you think he'd be in panty and bras Jeff,
- 5:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Now I feel weird. All right, great show, folks, Let's
- 5:50Speaker 1: get into some Phillies talk here right off the bat, God,
- 5:55Speaker 1: what the first half of the season, and we all,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I think, had this concern coming down the All Star break.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's like, all right, are they gonna be able to
- 6:01Speaker 1: keep it up? We've talked about it here in the
- 6:03Speaker 1: show a number of times, but boy, they are really
- 6:05Speaker 1: having a tough time out of the gate here. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: offense has been nothing more than just stagnant. They're sixty
- 6:13Speaker 1: four and thirty seven on the season. However, that's what
- 6:16Speaker 1: they are. They're nine and eight in the month of
- 6:18Speaker 1: July as we're recording this. So what should the level
- 6:21Speaker 1: of concern be for fans? I don't, Eric, think the
- 6:23Speaker 1: sky is falling by any stretch. They had a tough
- 6:26Speaker 1: time against the Pirates, they lost the series Minnesota just
- 6:32Speaker 1: this past week here, and they're gonna be facing the Guardians,
- 6:35Speaker 1: who are a very very good team. Like these next
- 6:39Speaker 1: like basically three to four series are going to be
- 6:44Speaker 1: really tough for this team. They're gonna be tested. And
- 6:46Speaker 1: we know that they had a quote easier schedule in
- 6:49Speaker 1: the beginning of the year, first half of the season.
- 6:52Speaker 1: The second half of the season, the schedule gets a
- 6:54Speaker 1: little tough. Do I think the sky's falling? Eric, No,
- 6:57Speaker 1: But this offense needs to come alive soon does because
- 7:01Speaker 1: guys need to start hitting home ers. They just do.
- 7:03Speaker 1: That's what this that's what this roster is, and they
- 7:07Speaker 1: just haven't been doing it. Again, I'm not completely concerned,
- 7:10Speaker 1: but it does think when when you've got runners in
- 7:14Speaker 1: scoring position how many times and nothing happens. I don't
- 7:17Speaker 1: know what are your thoughts here.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I mean, if I had to rate my concern one
- 7:20Speaker 2: to ten, like a three, it's really not that bad.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I was thinking three or four.
- 7:26Speaker 2: They're they're an older team, They're they're bound. I'm not
- 7:30Speaker 2: gonna say swoon. Swoon is like a full on like,
- 7:32Speaker 2: oh shit, we're in trouble, right. But the stagnant is
- 7:35Speaker 2: a great term for it, because they were red hot
- 7:38Speaker 2: in the first half and we're just we're just awesome
- 7:41Speaker 2: to watch. Their offense was exciting. The pitching was just
- 7:43Speaker 2: it was commanding, and they had eight All Stars. It
- 7:48Speaker 2: was if you watch the El Star game, it really
- 7:50Speaker 2: was like the Phillies moment. At one point the whole
- 7:53Speaker 2: infield was except for second base, was all Phillies. That
- 7:56Speaker 2: was kind of cool. Yeah to see, but you can't
- 8:00Speaker 2: you can't negate some of their opponents recently, like the
- 8:04Speaker 2: Pirates were hot as hell before the All Star break.
- 8:06Speaker 2: We ran into kind of a buzz saw. Honestly, they
- 8:10Speaker 2: think we didn't have to see schemes, but we are
- 8:13Speaker 2: able to take one out of three. The Twins are
- 8:16Speaker 2: no pushover, neither of the Guardian. So they played some
- 8:19Speaker 2: good teams and they again they're kind of they're an
- 8:23Speaker 2: age team and they're trying to bring real mood to
- 8:25Speaker 2: it back into the fold. He was out for how long.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You know he's.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Struggling to get back. Yeah, he's definitely struggling to get back.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's going to take some time. And and you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: as long as they have some really solid pitching, the
- 8:36Speaker 2: pitching is is what's going to keep them afloat. There's
- 8:40Speaker 2: still three games above everyone else even after today, So
- 8:45Speaker 2: I again my concerns. Out of three. The one thing
- 8:47Speaker 2: I do like is that I don't think they popped
- 8:52Speaker 2: their cherry whatever the term is in the first half.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Like that, I don't think they blew their load. This
- 8:56Speaker 2: is getting very sexy, and I just think that they
- 9:00Speaker 2: play some really good teams. They're an older team. Real
- 9:02Speaker 2: Muto is coming back. It's gonna take some time. But
- 9:04Speaker 2: what I do like the reason that I like that
- 9:05Speaker 2: they're stagnant right now, and even though the pitching is good,
- 9:08Speaker 2: I think this will be more incentive for them to
- 9:10Speaker 2: make some moves for the deadline, which is like in
- 9:12Speaker 2: a week or so, right, Yeah, Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 9:14Speaker 2: If it came out just blasting and one like eight,
- 9:18Speaker 2: when I eight and one or whatever, I'd be like,
- 9:20Speaker 2: maybe they won't make any moves. But now, like maybe
- 9:23Speaker 2: maybe this will push the front off to be like, Okay,
- 9:25Speaker 2: maybe we do have to make some tweaks. Maybe we'll
- 9:26Speaker 2: make one big move and some minor tweaks because I
- 9:29Speaker 2: think one more solid rotation pitcher would really be good.
- 9:33Speaker 2: And and one more yeah, because because Alvarado is He's
- 9:38Speaker 2: even said in interviews like I'm not good right now.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I suck. So I would bring in maybe a closer
- 9:44Speaker 2: just in case maybe he becomes like the eighth seventh
- 9:47Speaker 2: inning guy or whatever if if Alverado comes back, but
- 9:50Speaker 2: like just and obviously another bat or so for the outfield, but.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Gotta be a right hander.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, especially with real Muto if he takes like a
- 9:59Speaker 2: month or so to come back, you need another right
- 10:01Speaker 2: hand like strong bat in the lineup.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So yeah, absolutely. I do think Dave Dombrowski is gonna
- 10:06Speaker 1: make moves. It's not gonna surprise me if he does.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's gonna surprise me if he doesn't make any moves.
- 10:12Speaker 1: If he doesn't, eric that means that he believes that
- 10:15Speaker 1: this team is gonna be able to get back to
- 10:16Speaker 1: that form earlier in the season. I just don't think
- 10:20Speaker 1: that that's gonna happen, though, definitely gonna need a bullpen arm.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I don't know about the other starter quite frankly, I
- 10:26Speaker 1: think they would Key. I think they may go to
- 10:28Speaker 1: a six man rotation at some point, I really do.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I think they need that right handed outfielder at
- 10:34Speaker 1: this point too, So I don't know. I do think
- 10:36Speaker 1: a six man rotation is coming, for sure.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I do too. But I just think there's there's plenty
- 10:42Speaker 2: of there's really good starters out there on the trade market,
- 10:46Speaker 2: which is why I think maybe Don Browski's like, you
- 10:49Speaker 2: know what, we have a window of like two to
- 10:51Speaker 2: three years, why not just go all the freak in
- 10:53Speaker 2: this year and just see what the hell we can do.
- 10:56Speaker 2: We have the best record in baseball. Yeah, let's put
- 10:58Speaker 2: up we're destroying the NL. Let's put the foot of
- 11:01Speaker 2: the throat kind of deal and just trade some of
- 11:04Speaker 2: our best prospects and let's just go all in this year.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to see that, but
- 11:08Speaker 2: I could see maybe they're like, you know what our
- 11:11Speaker 2: teams like in their early thirties, let's just go for it.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I wonder if they do go after guy like Tanner Scott,
- 11:17Speaker 1: left hand pitcher from the Marlins. I think, based on
- 11:20Speaker 1: need alone, Scott is probably the best fit for the
- 11:23Speaker 1: Phillies right now. He's got a one point sixty five
- 11:25Speaker 1: ERA and seventeen saves for Miami. I think he's that
- 11:28Speaker 1: type of bullpen guy that they would like to bring
- 11:31Speaker 1: in here if they can get him up here, if
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's the right type of deal. And even somebody like
- 11:38Speaker 1: Lewis Robert junior centerfielder from the White Sox, twenty six
- 11:42Speaker 1: years old, has a Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and All
- 11:45Speaker 1: Star appearance under his belt at this point, and he
- 11:49Speaker 1: could be a really good spot in that center field.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And again, I believe he's a right hander. I think
- 11:54Speaker 1: he's a right hander. So those are two guys I'm
- 11:56Speaker 1: looking for at this point.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I mean, you gotta guy like Garrett Crochet on that
- 12:01Speaker 2: same team on the White Sox. The White Socks are
- 12:03Speaker 2: right for the Pickens. I think that's when the teams
- 12:05Speaker 2: are going to just sell hard. I mean, what would
- 12:08Speaker 2: it take to get Crochet and and that kid you
- 12:12Speaker 2: know off the White Sox hands. I'm sure you have
- 12:14Speaker 2: to get rid of from prospects. Man. Maybe if you
- 12:17Speaker 2: get a right hand Matt and and a starting pitcher
- 12:19Speaker 2: who's having a really good year.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'll say this, John Stone has said it on the
- 12:22Speaker 1: podcast last week. If you got to get rid of
- 12:24Speaker 1: Andrew Payner to bring in somebody that's going to solidify
- 12:28Speaker 1: things for this pitching staff. You know what you can do,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you do it that you do it. He's your top prospect.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But still, this is this, this is the year that
- 12:36Speaker 1: they potentially get to the World Series, potentially win it
- 12:39Speaker 1: with this roster. I say you do it.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And I think adding a six six twenty five year
- 12:43Speaker 2: old lefty hand or like like Crochet would just be yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 2: what a I mean, he might be your fifth starter
- 12:50Speaker 2: with Sanchez how well he's pitching, like what an amazing
- 12:53Speaker 2: what like just just just the other team looking at
- 12:56Speaker 2: like okay in the playoffs, like we're going to face
- 13:00Speaker 2: these we don't get a break, right, no freaking break. Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 2: we're not gonna get to any one walker. We're gonna
- 13:04Speaker 2: get these five. Holy crap, Like, what do we do?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah? Right, you got any other phillies talk before we
- 13:09Speaker 1: get into some spying and cheating in sports.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Now, I honestly, we'll see what they do against against
- 13:16Speaker 2: the Guardians. And you know, they come back from the
- 13:18Speaker 2: l Star break. Half the team was on the road
- 13:21Speaker 2: probably you know, either on vacation or at the All
- 13:24Speaker 2: Star Game, and they go right on the road. They
- 13:26Speaker 2: haven't been home yet. So I let's see they do
- 13:28Speaker 2: against the Guardians. If they take two out of three
- 13:31Speaker 2: and then head home and there's still like four games
- 13:33Speaker 2: over everyone else and in the league, all this talk
- 13:35Speaker 2: would be like mood.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely all right, Well, let's move on to that
- 13:40Speaker 1: next story. We're gonna be getting into spying and cheating
- 13:43Speaker 1: and sports has really gone to the next level as
- 13:45Speaker 1: it pertains to the Olympics. You know, just when you think, boy,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I could couldn't get any worse for the Olympics when
- 13:50Speaker 1: it comes to cheating, well here we go. The Canadian
- 13:53Speaker 1: women's soccer coach has been kicked off the Olympics squad
- 13:55Speaker 1: after their team had been caught using a drone to
- 13:59Speaker 1: spy on New Zealand during a training session. Here Eric,
- 14:04Speaker 1: nothing ever ceases to amaze me when it comes to
- 14:06Speaker 1: Olympic cheating. Look, teams try to get advantages all the
- 14:10Speaker 1: time in sports, whether it's baseball, soccer, football, hockey, whatever,
- 14:15Speaker 1: teams try to get the advantage. So what the New
- 14:17Speaker 1: England Patriots did many years ago in the world of football,
- 14:21Speaker 1: See what the Houston Astros did and how they they
- 14:24Speaker 1: were penalized to an extent for what they had done
- 14:28Speaker 1: in terms of their cheating. But this kind of like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't know why I feel like this goes above
- 14:33Speaker 1: and be up. Maybe it's because I use a drone
- 14:35Speaker 1: during the course of my days with my filmmaking and
- 14:38Speaker 1: my small business that I have on the side where
- 14:40Speaker 1: I do videography. But man, if you got a good drone,
- 14:45Speaker 1: you're gonna have to have a good drone. If you're
- 14:47Speaker 1: gonna cheat on your opponents who are on the field
- 14:50Speaker 1: doing so, you're gonna have to decent size drone. Why
- 14:54Speaker 1: are you putting that up in the air for people
- 14:56Speaker 1: to see. I just I'm amazed by this story. It's like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: figure gonna get caught? What do you think? And if
- 15:02Speaker 1: the drone is so small, probably not the best quality
- 15:07Speaker 1: camera unless it's a DJI thing. Anyway, I don't want
- 15:09Speaker 1: to get into the nuts and bolts of it. But
- 15:11Speaker 1: really nothing ceases to amaze me anymore with cheating. This
- 15:14Speaker 1: one really appeared to be stupid though in my opinion.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I mean, I do like the fact that technology is
- 15:21Speaker 2: taking cheating to a whole other level.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Really, it almost feels like the Patriots thing is almost
- 15:27Speaker 2: like like like having a like a crib note in
- 15:30Speaker 2: your hands in high school. Yeah, charried to this. Now
- 15:33Speaker 2: we've come a long way. I mean the help that
- 15:36Speaker 2: the Astros are like banging trash cans baseball. Yeah, I
- 15:43Speaker 2: a couple of thoughts. Here is New Zealand that good
- 15:46Speaker 2: at soccer that they need to be cheating?
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I think the Canadian women's teams are pretty good. Like
- 15:52Speaker 2: I can understand, like we're playing Spain. We really got
- 15:55Speaker 2: to pick it up in Brazil, right right, right, it's
- 15:57Speaker 2: New Zealand. I did you need that leg up? Like
- 16:00Speaker 2: I think you're like, it just doesn't make sense to me.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Why isn't the US team doing this instead of losing
- 16:06Speaker 2: the freaking Panama Yes, in the Kopa, I don't know.
- 16:12Speaker 2: It's and you talked about you talked about drones. I
- 16:16Speaker 2: was thinking like did they have a crappy drone that
- 16:19Speaker 2: was just like literally hovering over the field, as like,
- 16:24Speaker 2: why is there a drone there? I can see it
- 16:26Speaker 2: has a Canadian flag on it right.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Off of it. What's going on? Yeah?
- 16:31Speaker 2: It just seems so like why, Like I don't know,
- 16:34Speaker 2: just why risk it? Like it's a it's an Olympic team.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Those those women work really fucking hard to make the
- 16:40Speaker 2: team and make it get there, and you're going to
- 16:43Speaker 2: risk all of their risk that whole team's like reputation
- 16:47Speaker 2: to get the leg up on the New Zealand women's team.
- 16:50Speaker 2: That that is absurd.
- 16:52Speaker 1: So also, I can't speak for all drones out there.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I've not used all drones, Eric, I can speak for
- 16:57Speaker 1: my drone and a lot of other ones they have
- 17:00Speaker 1: on them blinking lights. Here we go blank blank blank
- 17:05Speaker 1: here look at me. I'm hovering over you right now.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I hope you can't see me. It's incredible to me.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It's incredible to me.
- 17:15Speaker 2: And what what were they going to get out of
- 17:16Speaker 2: the footage? Right, well, because the right winger turned this
- 17:21Speaker 2: way and said it this way on a pass, like what,
- 17:23Speaker 2: what are you gonna get?
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's soccer.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yes, I've gotten really into it the past year or
- 17:28Speaker 2: so because my son plays now and I want to
- 17:30Speaker 2: understand it, and there's plays. But for the most part,
- 17:34Speaker 2: it's like, it's not it's not like football.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's not.
- 17:37Speaker 2: It's not like basketball. Picking all kinds of different like passing,
- 17:40Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. I watch it, I'm like, Okay,
- 17:42Speaker 2: I kind of understand it. I know the strategies. If
- 17:47Speaker 2: they have different penalty kick stuff from the corner, I
- 17:49Speaker 2: get that, but like, I don't know what they're gonna
- 17:51Speaker 2: get out of it. And by the way, shout out
- 17:53Speaker 2: to Simon. I hope the New Zealand women win this
- 17:55Speaker 2: whole thing now. Yes, nobody believes in them. This is
- 17:58Speaker 2: an ultimate story now because we're you're gonna cheat and
- 18:01Speaker 2: we're gonna kick your ass.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Now, there you go.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I'm hoping for his sake. They take the goal.
- 18:06Speaker 1: All right, very good, very good. All right, let's take

- 18:52Speaker 1: go dude.
- 18:53Speaker 2: So it is so bad now? Oh god, Twitter, It
- 18:57Speaker 2: is unbeliever Every tweet I like, I'll go ahead and
- 19:00Speaker 2: look at the other like the responses half of them
- 19:03Speaker 2: are porn. Yes, it was not that just a year
- 19:06Speaker 2: or so. No, it's unbelievable. It's like I did this
- 19:10Speaker 2: like a hot dog joke or something, and then there's
- 19:12Speaker 2: like only OnlyFans women, Yes, you like hot dogs, check
- 19:15Speaker 2: this out.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It's like that was just only liking Wieners for real.
- 19:23Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna take a quick break. We will
- 19:25Speaker 1: be back with some basketball talk and some Eagles talk.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Stick with us, all right, we are back and we
- 19:32Speaker 1: want to get into some WNBA talk some Sixers talk
- 19:35Speaker 1: as well. Eric, We've been talking a number of times
- 19:39Speaker 1: on this podcast platform over many, many, many months about
- 19:44Speaker 1: how women's basketball, women's sports in general have just been
- 19:48Speaker 1: increasing in popularity, and the WNBA All Star Game is
- 19:52Speaker 1: no exception to that at all. They brought it broke
- 19:56Speaker 1: the viewership record for a WNBA All Star Game, three
- 20:00Speaker 1: point four four million viewers, the third most watched WNBA event. Ever,
- 20:07Speaker 1: it's not just about Caitlin Clark anymore. It's not just
- 20:10Speaker 1: about her. It's about the sport itself, one getting the
- 20:14Speaker 1: recognition that it deserves, but two, the athleticism that you
- 20:18Speaker 1: can see during the course of a WNBA game, the
- 20:21Speaker 1: product that they are putting out on the court. Folks
- 20:24Speaker 1: are starting to realize, and it's sad it's taken this long,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and it has taken storylines like Caitlyn Clark to get
- 20:30Speaker 1: to this point where people are really starting to appreciate
- 20:33Speaker 1: women's sports even that much more, and women's basketball the WNBA,
- 20:37Speaker 1: they are on the rise even more here and it's
- 20:40Speaker 1: really good to see Eric.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It is the good thing too, It's not just Kaitlyn Clark. Yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 2: they're like a lot of players are getting pub now.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I mean, Angel Reese is friggin fantastic great basketball player,
- 20:55Speaker 2: Cameron Bray and Kelsey Plumb, Breonna Stewart, They're also part
- 20:59Speaker 2: of the reason that it was like almost three and
- 21:01Speaker 2: a half million viewers for the All Star Game. But
- 21:06Speaker 2: I'll share this with you. I read a blog the
- 21:08Speaker 2: other day about the w NBA's like newfound fame or
- 21:12Speaker 2: whatever you wanted, popularity, and the guy made an argument
- 21:15Speaker 2: where I kind of I agree with it, and then
- 21:18Speaker 2: I equated it to the NBA, and I thought in
- 21:20Speaker 2: different terms. I took my I took the male piece
- 21:23Speaker 2: out of it. It may kind of made myself into
- 21:25Speaker 2: a female look at looking at the NBA. So so
- 21:29Speaker 2: the blog was basically like, it's not just Caitlin Clark,
- 21:32Speaker 2: It's not just these really good players. They're they're starting
- 21:34Speaker 2: to push kind of more of a sex appeal for WNBA,
- 21:37Speaker 2: which which had never tried before. Right with the with
- 21:40Speaker 2: Instagram out there, now a lot of the game int
- 21:42Speaker 2: like a lot of the Instagram accounts now show like,
- 21:45Speaker 2: you know, the NBA players huge on the end, the
- 21:49Speaker 2: players coming into the arena right, what they're wearing, and
- 21:53Speaker 2: the w NBA has definitely taken that on kind of
- 21:55Speaker 2: an influencer vibe right right, and then and they dress,
- 21:58Speaker 2: they dress a certain way and and I absolutely agree
- 22:01Speaker 2: with him. Probably the sex appeal thing absolutely brought in
- 22:04Speaker 2: different viewers that probably would not have watched prior. And
- 22:07Speaker 2: then I was like, you know what, I think the
- 22:09Speaker 2: NBA has been doing that for a long time too,
- 22:10Speaker 2: and I never noticed it because I'm.
- 22:12Speaker 1: A guy, and that's a really good point.
- 22:15Speaker 2: And I was thinking about, like this happened a couple
- 22:17Speaker 2: of years ago where they started doing the same thing
- 22:20Speaker 2: on Instagram where they show the players coming in and
- 22:22Speaker 2: guys like Russell Westbrook wearing like belly shirts right and
- 22:26Speaker 2: you see as like twelve pack abs, and the NBA
- 22:29Speaker 2: is full of like good looking guys like that's just
- 22:32Speaker 2: the way great athletes and phenomenal shape and probably very
- 22:36Speaker 2: sexy to the female side of the of the NBA,
- 22:39Speaker 2: which I never considered before I read this blog and
- 22:43Speaker 2: I was like, the NBA has been doing this for
- 22:45Speaker 2: a long time, but for a couple of years now,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and pushing fashion and pushing the player entries coming into
- 22:51Speaker 2: the arenas and pushing like, like not just basketball players,
- 22:56Speaker 2: they're good looking dudes too. And I think female fanship
- 23:00Speaker 2: for the for the NBA has probably grown the past
- 23:03Speaker 2: couple of years. And I just never thought about it
- 23:04Speaker 2: like that, And I was like, man, I it's it
- 23:08Speaker 2: just kind of it blow my mind. But I'm like,
- 23:10Speaker 2: I never thought of that. And to take yourself out
- 23:13Speaker 2: of a to take your own mentality out of it,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and like look at it from an un objective, Yeah,
- 23:19Speaker 2: you're like, holy crap. You know what. The NBA has
- 23:21Speaker 2: been doing this for a long time, and the w
- 23:23Speaker 2: NBA finally started doing it. And guess what, now there's
- 23:25Speaker 2: three and a half people watching the Elstar Game. So
- 23:27Speaker 2: I don't know. I thought I thought that was kind
- 23:29Speaker 2: of interesting that he made that point. I wish you
- 23:31Speaker 2: would again. Well, I mean I made it for him
- 23:33Speaker 2: because I'm smarter than the blogger, but I was like,
- 23:37Speaker 2: the men's the men's game has been doing it just
- 23:40Speaker 2: as much as the women's game, but they started kind
- 23:41Speaker 2: of earlier.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah, goes back to your good friend and our friend
- 23:46Speaker 1: of the show, Mac mac Ramaham and his text message
- 23:49Speaker 1: to you this past week about guys having tight bodies
- 23:53Speaker 1: that playing basketball. I had to throw that in there.
- 23:57Speaker 1: It's perfect to throw.
- 23:58Speaker 2: In to just say, hey, we signed this guy. He's hot,
- 24:03Speaker 2: he's got a type bod.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's the NBA.
- 24:07Speaker 2: They all do Like what are you talking about?
- 24:08Speaker 1: Exactly? They're all athletes. Do all of them do it? Boy?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Could you imagine if they would do this for for
- 24:14Speaker 1: football or even baseball. There's some good looking dudes in baseball.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Well, said h Sarah said. My wife said to me,
- 24:24Speaker 2: like a year or two ago, when the Phillies were
- 24:26Speaker 2: constantly having Budweiser parties after playoff wins, yes and all
- 24:31Speaker 2: shirts off, Yes, and Sarah she was like, I didn't
- 24:34Speaker 2: realize they all had six packs.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 2: The most part. I was like, yeah, they're athletes, they
- 24:38Speaker 2: have to be in really good shape.
- 24:39Speaker 1: White and you would you would say, true, yes, absolutely,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you would. The ladies would be honestly, the ladies would
- 24:45Speaker 1: be going crazy on Twitter during the the after game,
- 24:49Speaker 1: like the champagne stuff is being just tossed around. The
- 24:52Speaker 1: beer stuff is getting tossed everywhere. Like you said, the
- 24:55Speaker 1: guy's shirts are off, the ladies are going absolutely insane, rightfully, So.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I think it's just obvious that, like football players are
- 25:04Speaker 2: big and jacked because you can see.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It, yeah, because of what the game is too.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Whereas the baseball players they're in those kind of baggy
- 25:11Speaker 2: uniforms a little bit and then after the game they
- 25:13Speaker 2: take their shirts offs, like oh yeah, they're high. They're
- 25:16Speaker 2: top level athletes that work out every freaking day. Yes,
- 25:19Speaker 2: like they're watching it, not like the old the eighties
- 25:21Speaker 2: players that are oh my god, you compare eight nineteen
- 25:23Speaker 2: eighties baseball to now. I were looking at old baseball
- 25:28Speaker 2: cards this past weekend. It was just fun to sit
- 25:30Speaker 2: out and like I was just showing them like some
- 25:32Speaker 2: of the players and some of the slobs that played
- 25:36Speaker 2: in the league for twenty years, absolutely disastrous physically, Like.
- 25:41Speaker 1: How do they I've got it. Look, I'm not calling
- 25:43Speaker 1: them a slob by any stretch of the imagination. But
- 25:45Speaker 1: over here on my wall, I have an autograph photo
- 25:48Speaker 1: of John Kruck, not necessarily the most athletic guy in
- 25:52Speaker 1: the world.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Over here, I mean, look at the ninety three Phillies
- 25:55Speaker 2: right take away the guys that were jacked up on steroids. Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 2: the rest of that team. No, yeah, yes, messes, lot
- 26:03Speaker 2: a lot of messes.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Great story. I love your angle on that too, and
- 26:08Speaker 1: I think I think that's something important. I'd love to
- 26:10Speaker 1: hear from some of the ladies out there about that
- 26:12Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports table at gmail dot com. You know, what
- 26:15Speaker 1: are your thoughts on on Eric's take with regard to
- 26:18Speaker 1: these entrances, the entrances with regard to WNBA and how
- 26:21Speaker 1: we should be looking at it. So all right, well,
- 26:24Speaker 1: look really quick in terms of this basketball talk, before
- 26:27Speaker 1: we get to what are Eagles talk, is gonna be
- 26:30Speaker 1: the Sixers. They're gonna be signed. It looks like they're
- 26:32Speaker 1: gonna be signing veteran guard Reggie Jackson here and then
- 26:35Speaker 1: they still have one more spot to fill on the
- 26:37Speaker 1: roster once they get that done. But boy, I don't know.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I don't know about Reggie Jackson. He was he was
- 26:42Speaker 1: pretty good about twenty years ago, right, thirty years ago.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I'm kidding.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Oh yes, no, this is actually damn good sign.
- 26:52Speaker 1: It's not bad at all.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the Hornets, the Hornets bought him out. He cleared
- 26:56Speaker 2: waivers and it was kind of a free agent and
- 26:59Speaker 2: he could have won it anywhere. He was kind of
- 27:02Speaker 2: a the Nuggets were capped out. They had to make
- 27:05Speaker 2: that move, and he just won a championship a year ago,
- 27:08Speaker 2: so U that's right.
- 27:10Speaker 1: He did.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah with the Nuggets, he was he think he avers
- 27:13Speaker 2: like twelve points a game. He was like a twenty
- 27:15Speaker 2: minute rotation guard and perfect, perfect rotation guard for this team. Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 2: like if if MAXI needs a breather for two three minutes,
- 27:23Speaker 2: he's he's instant offense off the bench. Not not much
- 27:26Speaker 2: of a defender, but just one of those signs like sure,
- 27:31Speaker 2: if he's cheap, sign him, great rotation, you're you're again.
- 27:35Speaker 2: You got a winno of two years tops, and why
- 27:37Speaker 2: not bring in then he one more, one more body.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I would say, he's gonna be signing minimum right.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Something like that. Yeah, because he they bought him out,
- 27:44Speaker 2: so he's got his cash in pockets. So then he
- 27:47Speaker 2: one more big guy. He can kind of gets rebounds
- 27:49Speaker 2: banged down load. Not not a center, but like a forward.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Maybe he can score a little bit, but they have
- 27:53Speaker 2: one more spot for that. I'm Suremorial will uh kind
- 27:56Speaker 2: of maintain his financial flexibility there because you might get
- 28:00Speaker 2: that guy not during the offseason maybe like when the
- 28:03Speaker 2: buyout season starts. Yeah, but no again, like we that's
- 28:08Speaker 2: a whole nother show. But man, Morey's offseason perfection. Yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 2: I mean it's the best you could have done.
- 28:13Speaker 1: So absolutely, I didn't realize when I was looking at
- 28:15Speaker 1: his stats, you know, as I put this on the
- 28:17Speaker 1: agenda for US. Yes, he's thirty four years old, but
- 28:21Speaker 1: during that twenty twenty one run with the Clippers the
- 28:25Speaker 1: Western Conference Finals back in twenty twenty one, seventeen point
- 28:29Speaker 1: eight points, he averaged and forty percent three point shooting.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And then that's just a few years ago. Now do
- 28:35Speaker 1: I expect that to happen? Of course now, no, But really,
- 28:39Speaker 1: if he's even if you can even sniff that, if
- 28:42Speaker 1: you can even sniff it, I am totally cool with it.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I mean, he should be able to replicate that, because
- 28:47Speaker 2: he's not. He's only going to not those numbers, but
- 28:50Speaker 2: like to replicate the like per thirty six numbers, because
- 28:52Speaker 2: he's only going to play like twelve to fifteen minutes
- 28:55Speaker 2: a game tops. And he's a nice player to have
- 28:57Speaker 2: in case Maxic goes down with like a week one injury,
- 28:59Speaker 2: like a ham stringth thing. That's a great option to
- 29:02Speaker 2: have for thirty minutes a game when when like when
- 29:06Speaker 2: that's inevitaly gonna happen to one of the starters. So
- 29:09Speaker 2: I love it. Caleb Martin's a nice pickup. Two he
- 29:11Speaker 2: might get hurt. It's just a nice guy to between
- 29:14Speaker 2: him and oh my god, a Lowry, Kyle Lowry. Those
- 29:18Speaker 2: are really good veteran presence on the team that you
- 29:21Speaker 2: know it's a veteran team, whether there's no other way
- 29:24Speaker 2: to look at it, Yeah, you know. And again championship
- 29:27Speaker 2: pedigree he just won two years ago with the Nuggets. Yep.
- 29:31Speaker 1: All right, Well, before we head out here and take
- 29:34Speaker 1: our break, we're going to get into some Eagles talk
- 29:36Speaker 1: and we're gonna do something we'd never done here. We're
- 29:39Speaker 1: gonna do a bingo a little bit of a bingo card. Yes,
- 29:41Speaker 1: it's a quote top three list. You know, we'd like
- 29:43Speaker 1: to do our top three lists. But what's on our
- 29:45Speaker 1: Eagles bingo card for training camp? You know, what are
- 29:49Speaker 1: we gonna be able to cross off the list or
- 29:52Speaker 1: or the squares? I should say, what are we gonna
- 29:54Speaker 1: be able to cross off the squares? In terms of
- 29:56Speaker 1: Eagles training camp? On our Bingo cards here. So that's
- 29:59Speaker 1: what we're gonna get in to now before we get
- 30:01Speaker 1: to what we're thrown down on the table, Eric, I'm
- 30:03Speaker 1: gonna let you start first in terms of your Bingo card.
- 30:06Speaker 1: You know, when you're we're looking at Twitter, or we're
- 30:09Speaker 1: reading articles, or we're actually listening to commentary or listening
- 30:14Speaker 1: to other podcasts. What are some things that are on
- 30:17Speaker 1: your bingo card here? I don't know if you have
- 30:19Speaker 1: a top three or if you just have three you
- 30:21Speaker 1: want to get into. So you started off, buddy.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I have three. Can just give you a quick like
- 30:28Speaker 2: reminiscing about bingo game itself. I remember I remember being
- 30:32Speaker 2: like nine years old and I used to go I
- 30:35Speaker 2: used to go to bingo all the time with my
- 30:37Speaker 2: mom and like some of her older friends, and these
- 30:40Speaker 2: have Bengo halls back in the day, like like big
- 30:42Speaker 2: Ones yea yeah, and the women were like keep keep
- 30:45Speaker 2: the blotters yes in their purse and just bring them
- 30:49Speaker 2: all out and just the smell of that, and back
- 30:52Speaker 2: then you could smoke everywhere. I remember just being nine
- 30:55Speaker 2: years old and women just blowing smoke in my face
- 30:58Speaker 2: and I'm just sitting there playing bingo. With them and like,
- 31:00Speaker 2: this is totally cool. I guess like I'm the blotters
- 31:03Speaker 2: the between the smell and the smoke. I'm high, I'm
- 31:07Speaker 2: nine years old. There's no reason this should not be happening.
- 31:11Speaker 2: This is a cute but that was my bingo thought.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I think one of the one of the big ones. Uh,
- 31:21Speaker 2: there's no top three, but there seems to be a
- 31:23Speaker 2: lot of a lot of fans, a lot of people
- 31:26Speaker 2: on Twitter x whatever Mackai Beckton, a lot of really
- 31:30Speaker 2: there's a lot of like reliance that he's going to
- 31:32Speaker 2: be this starting right guard, and I'm I'm like, I
- 31:35Speaker 2: think we need temper our expectations with this guy a
- 31:39Speaker 2: little bit. There's I see people pen penciling him in
- 31:42Speaker 2: to be the starter, and I'm like, this guy's three
- 31:44Speaker 2: hundred and sixty five pounds. He was a kind of
- 31:47Speaker 2: a bust draft pick from the Jets. He apparently puked.
- 31:53Speaker 2: This isn't this is in the headline? Yeah after an
- 31:56Speaker 2: hour and and he's an injury casualty. He's hurt all
- 32:00Speaker 2: the time. And I see people on Twitter's being like, well,
- 32:02Speaker 2: he's gonna be our right guard. It's like, is he really?
- 32:05Speaker 2: And do we want someone like that next to the
- 32:08Speaker 2: center who's taking over Jason Kelsey spot has never been
- 32:11Speaker 2: a starting center.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of concerns there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: And I know right guard is not the biggest, most
- 32:16Speaker 2: important position. We have two great tackles, but that that,
- 32:20Speaker 2: to me is one that jumps out like I hope that.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I hope that gets gets figured out. I hope the
- 32:26Speaker 2: kid from Alabama when when's the job? And Becton's a
- 32:29Speaker 2: backup at first, but i just see his name out
- 32:32Speaker 2: there a lot, and I'm like after today with the
- 32:33Speaker 2: puke and I'm like, wow, Yeah, that scares me that
- 32:37Speaker 2: the middle of the offensive line is like so new. Yes,
- 32:41Speaker 2: and and that's we got a running back, a quarterback
- 32:45Speaker 2: that's head and off here concerning I'll say that.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's a good square on
- 32:51Speaker 1: the Bingo car to have Mackai Beckton because we don't
- 32:56Speaker 1: know what's going to happen with this position. I am
- 32:58Speaker 1: grateful for I'm grateful for Jeff Stoutlin, and I think
- 33:02Speaker 1: that's probably why Howie Roseman brought Becton in here to say, Okay,
- 33:05Speaker 1: he is a first round pick for a reason. He
- 33:08Speaker 1: was graded as a first round pick. He was taken
- 33:10Speaker 1: as a first round pick. Let's seef Jeff Stoutlin can
- 33:13Speaker 1: do anything with him. I am confident that whoever is
- 33:16Speaker 1: going to be starting at right guard on this offensive
- 33:19Speaker 1: line is definitely going to be the right one. If
- 33:21Speaker 1: it's Mackai Becton, then that means, you know what Stouton
- 33:23Speaker 1: saw something or was able to develop him enough throughout
- 33:26Speaker 1: training camp that there's the confidence in him. I have
- 33:29Speaker 1: a feeling it's going to be Tyler Steen. That's what
- 33:31Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be. Yeah, I do too, because
- 33:34Speaker 1: that's who they drafted, that's who they wanted to draft.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I think how he just bringing him in is real.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I thought was more for a depth perspective, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: let him learn under under Jeff Stoutlin's system, but have
- 33:45Speaker 1: Beckton there as a as an insurance piece basically if
- 33:48Speaker 1: something does happen with that right side of the line.
- 33:51Speaker 2: And maybe because he's the name and the draft bust,
- 33:53Speaker 2: he's getting all the pub and then maybe that's why
- 33:57Speaker 2: his name's out there so much and he puked Everywhereay,
- 34:01Speaker 2: I'm just hoping that he's because of his name and
- 34:04Speaker 2: his stature of what happened in his career so far.
- 34:06Speaker 2: That's why he's the name. It's he's gonna kind of
- 34:09Speaker 2: just be the backup in me. I just hate putting
- 34:12Speaker 2: him next to the new kid in center. If Kelsey
- 34:15Speaker 2: was the center and this guy was, he's going to
- 34:17Speaker 2: try to ease him in, Like I'd feel okay with
- 34:19Speaker 2: him being next to my lotta yeah, and and Kelsey sure,
- 34:23Speaker 2: but like no, that scared me a little good. I
- 34:26Speaker 2: hope it is the.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Name, all right, very good. Well, one of my Bengo
- 34:30Speaker 1: squares here, which I think we are gonna actually think
- 34:32Speaker 1: we're gonna have hear this more so than off or
- 34:36Speaker 1: more so than not, and it's probably gonna get blotted.
- 34:40Speaker 1: If you have a Bengo card with this on, it's
- 34:42Speaker 1: definitely gonna get blotted within the next day or two.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I'm shing one right now.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he's adjusting to the new system. That quote, I
- 34:50Speaker 1: got a couple of quotes form my Bengo card. We're
- 34:53Speaker 1: gonna hear that a lot because there's a new defensive
- 34:56Speaker 1: coordinator in Vic Fangio and there's a new offensive coordinator
- 34:59Speaker 1: in Kellen Moore. He's adjusting to the new system. Whether
- 35:02Speaker 1: it's the quarterback, running back, offensive line like we were
- 35:04Speaker 1: talking about, or whether it's the cornerbacks in a stacked
- 35:08Speaker 1: cornerback room that we have now. But everybody's got to
- 35:11Speaker 1: get used to what Vic Fangio is going to be doing.
- 35:14Speaker 1: We're going to be hearing that phrase, I think a
- 35:16Speaker 1: decent amount, and I think that's going to get xed
- 35:18Speaker 1: off the Bengo cards sooner rather than later. He's adjusting
- 35:21Speaker 1: to the new system.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Eric, and I feel a lot better about it having
- 35:28Speaker 2: veteran coordinators as opposed to last year, where you had
- 35:31Speaker 2: holy shit.
- 35:32Speaker 1: What an experiment that was?
- 35:34Speaker 2: Oh my failed experiment. Yes, the first half of the year. Yeah,
- 35:39Speaker 2: I feel much better with Fangio and what's the kid's name?
- 35:42Speaker 2: Offensive coordinator Kellin Moore was yeah, and Kelling call a kid,
- 35:46Speaker 2: he's probably might but yeah, I just that's always going
- 35:50Speaker 2: to be the narrative when you have two new coordinators.
- 35:54Speaker 2: But I feel much safer and more of a veteran
- 35:56Speaker 2: team too. You know, Yeah, I talked about defensive line
- 35:59Speaker 2: being young, but like you know, you got for Hurts,
- 36:02Speaker 2: this is how many years now, right, you got Saquon
- 36:04Speaker 2: coming in the defense is another year older. I know
- 36:07Speaker 2: they lost I know, I know, Fletcher Cox is gone,
- 36:11Speaker 2: but I do feel better. It's a system I have
- 36:16Speaker 2: a little more faith in than I did last year.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Absolutely. By the way, Kellen Moore's thirty six. Not as
- 36:20Speaker 1: old as you.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Oh shit, he's a little old boy.
- 36:25Speaker 1: My goodness, I forgot.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I forgot how old I am? Yes, all right, Well,
- 36:29Speaker 2: what's the younger than me too?
- 36:31Speaker 1: I know the whole freaking team. I'd be Fangio was
- 36:33Speaker 1: younger than us.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Is he really?
- 36:35Speaker 1: I'm kidding? Oh, I'm feeling old baby? All right? What's
- 36:43Speaker 1: second on your Bengo card here?
- 36:46Speaker 2: This isn't the biggest one, but it's it's it's interesting
- 36:49Speaker 2: because you have you have two top tier wide receivers, right,
- 36:55Speaker 2: and I think the big question after Defonte Parker kind
- 36:57Speaker 2: of announced his retirement is like, who is the thirdie receiver?
- 37:01Speaker 2: Because that's always really important. Dallas Goddard great tight end,
- 37:05Speaker 2: checkered history injury wise, so that third receiver is big.
- 37:09Speaker 2: And if I mean, I hear a lot of good
- 37:11Speaker 2: things about Paris Campbell. I've read a lot. I've seen
- 37:14Speaker 2: blogs where man Paris Campbell was a steal. Right, Paris
- 37:18Speaker 2: Campbell gets hurt too, So that's that's part of the problem.
- 37:21Speaker 2: And I don't know who the third is gonna be.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I hope he can stay healthy. But I think that
- 37:27Speaker 2: third wide receiver position is going to be massive for
- 37:30Speaker 2: this team because it's gonna be They're gonna spread the
- 37:34Speaker 2: ball out right, They got Saquon coming to the back.
- 37:36Speaker 2: They have a lot of weapons. But I think at
- 37:38Speaker 2: certain times a certain games, that third receiver is going
- 37:40Speaker 2: to be very important to the offense. And who's that
- 37:43Speaker 2: going to be? John Ross? I'm not sure.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Oh my god, John, I don't think he's played in
- 37:47Speaker 1: three years. I'm gonna be talking to Alexis Chason about this,
- 37:50Speaker 1: the whole wide receiver three four and five. I mean,
- 37:52Speaker 1: Britain Covey is like.
- 37:56Speaker 2: John Ross, you're a fantasy football guys, John Ross is
- 37:59Speaker 2: one of those I'm gonna take it. I'm gonna take
- 38:01Speaker 2: a flyer.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Gonna take a flyer, yeah exactly, Yeah in the fourth round.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I've taken the flyer on that asshole many times.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Good value, good value.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Take me right, my ass many times.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna be talking to Alexis about this and just
- 38:15Speaker 1: a bit, but it is a big concern for me.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Davante Smith coming out of college winning the Heisman, so
- 38:23Speaker 1: many folks saying he ain't gonna last in the NFL. Well, folks,
- 38:25Speaker 1: you know what he has. He has done a good
- 38:27Speaker 1: job staying healthy. But guess what. Health only lasts for
- 38:30Speaker 1: so long in the NFL. And I've got a major
- 38:33Speaker 1: concern with if aj Brown goes down with a hamstring
- 38:36Speaker 1: ACL type of injury. He's a huge guy, always working out,
- 38:40Speaker 1: he's he's got a great body. I'm not necessarily worried
- 38:45Speaker 1: about like some guy tackling him and he gets hurt.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It's more the ACL tissue type of injury. And with
- 38:50Speaker 1: Davante Smith, maybe he maybe somebody like knocks him out
- 38:53Speaker 1: or has a concussion. I am worried about the depth
- 38:56Speaker 1: with this wide receiver corps quite frankly, I think that's
- 38:59Speaker 1: a really good one.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Eric. Oh, you would you be concerned if John Ross
- 39:03Speaker 2: and Paris Campbell were two starting wide receivers?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Very much?
- 39:05Speaker 2: So, yes, get me too. It'd be a lot of
- 39:09Speaker 2: a lot of hurts in one. Oh gosh, yeah, all right,
- 39:13Speaker 2: Well you're telling you right, the injury aspect of it. Yes,
- 39:16Speaker 2: all of a sudden, your your w R two is out.
- 39:20Speaker 2: You got like a WR five playing the two all
- 39:22Speaker 2: of a sudden, bringing.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Covey's out there. For God's sake, you know he's probab.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I would say he's probably gonna make There's two new
- 39:28Speaker 1: rookie wide receivers. Are they gonna get out there?
- 39:31Speaker 2: No?
- 39:32Speaker 1: Probably not. I mean it's it's gonna be rough. It's
- 39:35Speaker 1: gonna be rough if there are wide receiver injuries with
- 39:38Speaker 1: the first two. Uh. But my second bingo card square
- 39:42Speaker 1: here is this is another quote. I think we're gonna
- 39:45Speaker 1: hear this a decent amount. There was a lot of
- 39:47Speaker 1: intensity today. I think that. I think that's one we're
- 39:51Speaker 1: gonna hear a lot of I just wanted to throw
- 39:54Speaker 1: that one in there for fun, just because it's one
- 39:57Speaker 1: of those hack lines that we consistently hear throughout training camp,
- 40:01Speaker 1: throughout the course of the start of the NFL season,
- 40:03Speaker 1: with all teams, not just the Eagles team. There was
- 40:07Speaker 1: a lot of intensity today. Maybe maybe I can already
- 40:10Speaker 1: take that off my Bengo card. I'm sure there was
- 40:12Speaker 1: probably some tweets out there today if I go back
- 40:15Speaker 1: and look at Eagles training camp Twitter to see what
- 40:18Speaker 1: was going on. But yeah, there was a lot of
- 40:20Speaker 1: intensity today. Eric, that's that's what I'm gonna that's that's
- 40:23Speaker 1: that's my number two one here.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Well, we've we've done the show. We've done the show,
- 40:29Speaker 2: and we did the list of what do you call it,
- 40:32Speaker 2: like sayings or like gimmicks that are used in announcers
- 40:35Speaker 2: and stuff. That's a big one. Yes, for training camp,
- 40:39Speaker 2: a lot of intensity. And it's one of those like, yeah,
- 40:41Speaker 2: there should be. They're getting ready to for gladiator battles. Yes,
- 40:45Speaker 2: for the next four months, there should be some intensity like.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Getting paid millions and almost killing each other.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah, should be. I agree with that.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yes, all right, what's your what's your final one? Your
- 40:57Speaker 1: third one or first one or what's your last square here?
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeh uh my, my my next one has to It
- 41:04Speaker 2: kind of ties into the Makai Beckton kid and Na
- 41:08Speaker 2: Kobe Dean fighting for that like starting linebacker spot. Yea.
- 41:12Speaker 2: You know, we talked a few weeks ago about you
- 41:15Speaker 2: know Howie and just being a a brilliant GM but
- 41:20Speaker 2: kind of a shaky drafter sometimes. Right, he takes takes
- 41:24Speaker 2: the best value and Ni Kobe Dean when he drafted him,
- 41:26Speaker 2: was probably the best value. A lot of pedigree and
- 41:30Speaker 2: and he's he's had to shake the first two seasons.
- 41:33Speaker 2: He's just not hasn't been the guy. And right now
- 41:37Speaker 2: that the linebacker spot is the spots are very sketchy.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Devin White does not exactly like twist my nipples, I'll
- 41:45Speaker 2: say that. And if Nikobe Deane can't beat him out,
- 41:49Speaker 2: I mean, like Tampa Bay, just let him walk. And
- 41:53Speaker 2: if he can't beat out Devon White, you got to
- 41:55Speaker 2: start to realize, like this is this kid even ever
- 41:58Speaker 2: gonna make it? Like I know he's really young, it's
- 42:01Speaker 2: his third season, but man, if you can't beat out
- 42:03Speaker 2: kind of an also like a like a an also
- 42:06Speaker 2: ran throwaway that we signed for one year deal, then
- 42:11Speaker 2: what are you doing in the league. That's I think
- 42:13Speaker 2: that's a big one because again, linebacker spots not the
- 42:17Speaker 2: strongest part of our defense or any any part of
- 42:20Speaker 2: the roster. I think if he can't win, you have
- 42:22Speaker 2: to start to question, like is he even going to
- 42:24Speaker 2: be in the league.
- 42:25Speaker 1: You kind of piggybacked off my first one too. Actually,
- 42:29Speaker 1: so my last Bengo square is linebacker injury. Because you're
- 42:34Speaker 1: talking about Nakobe Dean, he hasn't been able to produce
- 42:37Speaker 1: anything because he's been injured for the past two years.
- 42:39Speaker 1: This is his final shot. It really is to prove
- 42:42Speaker 1: that one he can stay healthy in two that he
- 42:45Speaker 1: can understand a defense and be a major contributor at
- 42:48Speaker 1: a position that has been just lacking talent for so
- 42:52Speaker 1: many years. Yes, TJ. Edwards was great, but they let
- 42:54Speaker 1: him go to Chicago. Zach Bond apparently not that bad
- 42:58Speaker 1: of a pickup. But we have to see what he's
- 43:00Speaker 1: going to be able to do. And like you said
- 43:01Speaker 1: with Devin White, he's not the best in coverage and
- 43:05Speaker 1: that's going to be a problem in Vic Fangio's scheme
- 43:08Speaker 1: where linebackers need to cover and then safeties need to
- 43:12Speaker 1: cover as well. So all that being said, linebacker injury
- 43:16Speaker 1: for me is a major concern because one or two
- 43:18Speaker 1: of these guys go down, Vic Fangio is going to
- 43:21Speaker 1: have one hell of a time trying to figure out
- 43:24Speaker 1: what the hell to do in the middle of the field.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Because like the other names involved, like Orn Brooks, I mean,
- 43:30Speaker 2: you got Trotter Junior and Brandon Smith Junior. Yeah not,
- 43:35Speaker 2: I'm not confidence building, I'll say that right, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 2: And the moves they made last year to try to
- 43:41Speaker 2: fill those spots didn't really work out either.
- 43:43Speaker 3: So.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I can see this being a major problem for the
- 43:48Speaker 2: Eagles and them scrambling to find another name to fill
- 43:51Speaker 2: in those spots, and Fangio kind of going, Okay, I
- 43:54Speaker 2: have I have players at all their positions, but I
- 43:57Speaker 2: have no linebackers, right, Yeah, it's kind of important. But yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I think the na Kobe Dean thing is probably a
- 44:03Speaker 2: top three Eagle story. Yeah, going to the yeah, preceived
- 44:07Speaker 2: pre into the training camp. Sorry, I'm thinking yeah.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well that was a good discussion there.
- 44:14Speaker 1: We got more Eagles talk coming your way with Alexis
- 44:17Speaker 1: Chasin from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com. Buddy, I'm gonna let
- 44:20Speaker 1: you go here. Any any final thoughts before we head
- 44:23Speaker 1: out here for a break.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I think Nikobe Deane's to change his number. Seventeen is
- 44:28Speaker 2: just not a linebacker number.
- 44:29Speaker 1: It does thinks, doesn't it.
- 44:31Speaker 2: It's terrible, It doesn't look right. Yeah, never, it never
- 44:33Speaker 2: has to me.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I hated the number set. We move. May have to
- 44:36Speaker 1: do a top three list of worse numbers. Worst Jersey numbers.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Seventeen and forty nine are horrendous to me.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Name me a good number seventeen any sport.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Oh man, it's gonna take me a while.
- 44:52Speaker 2: What number was Wilbur Montgomery? Wilburt Montgomery was an he
- 44:56Speaker 2: thirty four, Yeah, thirty one, thirty one, there is one
- 45:01Speaker 2: good seventeen. I can't remember. He was an Eagle too,
- 45:04Speaker 2: But it's just not a good linebacker number. It doesn't work.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Was it was it? Jim mcman or, No, he was seven?
- 45:11Speaker 2: Right?
- 45:12Speaker 1: Wait? Who's seven?
- 45:14Speaker 2: Jim mc mahon.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Jim McMahon was seven. I think we gotta figure
- 45:17Speaker 1: this out at some point.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah, the number just doesn't like scream linebacker to me,
- 45:21Speaker 2: I don't like it.
- 45:22Speaker 1: You're absolutely correct. Seventeen and forty nine, stink folks. All right, Eric,
- 45:26Speaker 1: will let you go again. Follow Eric on threads at
- 45:29Speaker 1: Slen ten twenty three. Can follow me at mister Jeff
- 45:32Speaker 1: Warren in the show Philadelphia Sports Table. We're gonna take
- 45:35Speaker 1: a quick break. We'll be right back, all right. We're
- 45:37Speaker 1: jumping right in here again. Before we take the break.
- 45:40Speaker 1: We literally stopped recording thirty seconds ago, and Eric says to.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Me, Harold Carmichael was number seventeen.
- 45:46Speaker 1: There you go, freaking idiots.
- 45:48Speaker 2: I am a lifetime Eagles fan. That is graceful. I
- 45:52Speaker 2: am still embarrassed. One of the best receivers in Eagles history.
- 45:56Speaker 2: The biggest hands you've ever seen is six sixty six.
- 45:58Speaker 2: That I'm shamed. Eric.
- 46:01Speaker 1: When I was on vacation, I was reading an Eagles
- 46:03Speaker 1: trivia book at the beach. For God's sake, Eric Carmichael
- 46:06Speaker 1: was in there a number of times.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Listen, my dad has a Harold Carmichael jersey in his
- 46:11Speaker 2: bar basement sign in a frame number seventeen. How do
- 46:17Speaker 2: I not know?
- 46:18Speaker 1: All right, folks, we're taking the break now, we'll be
- 46:20Speaker 1: right back. All right, we're back. Let's get into more
- 46:24Speaker 1: Eagles talk here. Got a great discussion come your way
- 46:27Speaker 1: with one of our favorites here. It's what we're thrown
- 46:29Speaker 1: down on the table and now on the table joining
- 46:36Speaker 1: us this week. She comes to us from Bleedinggreen Nation
- 46:38Speaker 1: dot com. You know, it's one of our favorite websites
- 46:41Speaker 1: out there, a lot of great content on a daily
- 46:44Speaker 1: basis about this Philadelphia Eagles team and what's gonna be
- 46:46Speaker 1: happening with them in the future. As we are moving
- 46:49Speaker 1: along here. You can find her on the Twitter at
- 46:53Speaker 1: Lovely Buckeye and she's one of our favorites over there,
- 46:56Speaker 1: alexis chasin, how you doing, Lexus, I'm great.
- 46:59Speaker 3: I'm so excited. Training camp, We've got football.
- 47:02Speaker 1: It's here, it's here, It's finally here. Honestly, it seemed
- 47:05Speaker 1: like it happened in the blink of an eye. It
- 47:07Speaker 1: really did. And like there's so many storylines that we're
- 47:11Speaker 1: gonna be all following with this Eagles team as training
- 47:14Speaker 1: camp you mentioned is here and there. There's one in
- 47:18Speaker 1: particular I wanted to start off with you because I
- 47:20Speaker 1: don't necessarily think it's getting enough attention. It's it's getting
- 47:23Speaker 1: some attention, but this one particular storyline don't. I don't
- 47:26Speaker 1: necessarily think it's getting its due. And it's the depth
- 47:29Speaker 1: at the wide receiver position. Who is gonna be wide
- 47:32Speaker 1: receiver three, wide receiver four? What role are they gonna
- 47:36Speaker 1: play in this new Kellen Moore offense, Alexis, here's here's
- 47:39Speaker 1: we got? Okay? After AJ Brown and Davonte Smith, you've
- 47:42Speaker 1: got guys like Paris Campbell, John Ross, who I didn't
- 47:46Speaker 1: even realize was still in the NFL. He hasn't played
- 47:48Speaker 1: a game in apparently three years. They're gonna be competing
- 47:51Speaker 1: for that role and these backup roles. There's two new
- 47:53Speaker 1: rookie wide receivers Britain Covey trying to get a spot
- 47:57Speaker 1: on the roster as well in terms of that depth.
- 47:59Speaker 1: But I don't know if you have the same concern.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I think this is going to become more of a
- 48:02Speaker 1: prevalent storyline as we continue to move on throughout training camp.
- 48:06Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the wide receiver depth and
- 48:09Speaker 1: how it may look like after AJ Brown and Davante Smith.
- 48:13Speaker 3: I agree, I don't think it's getting talked about quite
- 48:16Speaker 3: enough because when you have the best wide receiver duo
- 48:19Speaker 3: in the league, you tend to overlook the depth issue.
- 48:23Speaker 3: I mean, I'm going to be a little Ohio State
- 48:26Speaker 3: biased here, but I think Paris Campbell can absolutely fill that,
- 48:30Speaker 3: you know, third role we have. I know that, you know,
- 48:33Speaker 3: Davante Adams decided to retire instead, he was definitely going
- 48:37Speaker 3: to be the other big guy.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but I also think that Vonte Parker, oh yeah, sorry,
- 48:44Speaker 1: Ponte Parker all Thedvante thinking, oh my gosh, what happened here?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Did he come over from the Raiders and now all
- 48:50Speaker 1: of a sudden he's retiring? What did I miss?
- 48:53Speaker 3: There are not that not that Parker and Adams are
- 48:55Speaker 3: the same, but you know, yes, and I do think
- 48:59Speaker 3: that they probably have a bigger role for Sa Kwon
- 49:02Speaker 3: Barkley in the receiving game too.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Good point.
- 49:05Speaker 3: So I'm not concerned about the depth. But Howie Roseman
- 49:09Speaker 3: during the training camp press conference, like before they hit
- 49:12Speaker 3: the practice field did say that that's kind of a
- 49:15Speaker 3: fluid situation and something they're keeping an eye on, and
- 49:18Speaker 3: that's one of the competitions that they're excited about. So
- 49:21Speaker 3: it definitely alluded to the fact that they're aware of,
- 49:26Speaker 3: you know, what is that depth going to be, And
- 49:29Speaker 3: how he always talks about adding talent no matter what,
- 49:32Speaker 3: so I'm sure he's aware of who might else be
- 49:35Speaker 3: available to add into this group if they don't show up.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I think that's a really good
- 49:41Speaker 1: point too. And again, like we have had to deal
- 49:44Speaker 1: with wide receiver three and a lack of productivity over
- 49:47Speaker 1: the years with regard to this particular position and the
- 49:50Speaker 1: depth at wide receiver too. I mean, how many years
- 49:52Speaker 1: of Greg Ward did we have to deal with? How
- 49:54Speaker 1: many years you know of Quz Watkins did we have
- 49:56Speaker 1: to deal with? If it's Paris Campbell, if he's able
- 49:58Speaker 1: to make some sort of depth based resurgence, then hey,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I'm here. I'm all for it and I would love
- 50:04Speaker 1: to see it. I mean, John Ross, I really don't
- 50:07Speaker 1: have too too much hope for but I do have to.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I do have hope for the rookie wide receivers. I
- 50:12Speaker 1: know they were later picks in this draft, but this
- 50:14Speaker 1: is an opportunity for them to shine and really showcase
- 50:17Speaker 1: what their talent is. And again one of those type
- 50:21Speaker 1: of storylines. I really think we got to keep our
- 50:23Speaker 1: eyes on here because if Davante Smith or AJ Brown
- 50:26Speaker 1: go down, this team could be in trouble from receiving perspective.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Absolutely, And last year we had Alamide Zachius and he
- 50:35Speaker 3: was great and he definitely filled that role, but he
- 50:37Speaker 3: also wasn't you know, they never really needed him to
- 50:41Speaker 3: become more than what he was good point, and so
- 50:44Speaker 3: I think, you know, Paris Campbell could definitely fill that
- 50:47Speaker 3: or even a rookie you know with some you know,
- 50:51Speaker 3: training camp reps. So I definitely think they're going to
- 50:54Speaker 3: be okay. But like you said, I mean, either way,
- 50:56Speaker 3: almost no matter who is behind them, if something happens
- 51:00Speaker 3: to AJ Brown, or DeVante Smith. It's a problem regardless
- 51:04Speaker 3: of who they have.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think it needs to be a more prevalent storyline.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Hope the national reporters, even the folks over Bleeding Green Nation,
- 51:11Speaker 1: let's get let's get more info on this, Let's get
- 51:13Speaker 1: more let's get more analysis on this, for sure. But
- 51:15Speaker 1: speaking of receivers, Alexis, you know, I'm really looking forward
- 51:19Speaker 1: to seeing what Dallas Goddard does this season, because look,
- 51:22Speaker 1: the reality is, he seems like he's been quote trending
- 51:26Speaker 1: downward over the past couple of years in terms of yards,
- 51:29Speaker 1: terms of receptions. He's not a huge threat in the
- 51:32Speaker 1: end zone. Let's be honest. You look at the numbers,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you look at the play calls, and I know this
- 51:37Speaker 1: new Kellen Moore offense could show us something a little
- 51:40Speaker 1: bit different, but Dallas Goddard is sort of trending downward here.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Quite frankly, do you think the Eagles need to address
- 51:47Speaker 1: the tight end positions sooner rather than later, Not just
- 51:50Speaker 1: like this season necessarily because Dallas Goddard is a very
- 51:53Speaker 1: good tight end. He is, He's a good receiver. But
- 51:57Speaker 1: I think this is another underlying storyline here that is
- 52:00Speaker 1: going to need to be addressed in the future. What
- 52:02Speaker 1: are your thoughts here about Goddard the tight end position
- 52:04Speaker 1: moving forward here?
- 52:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely think eventually, you know, maybe three or
- 52:09Speaker 3: four years, I think Goddard is. I would rank him,
- 52:13Speaker 3: you know, among like number eight to twelve in the
- 52:17Speaker 3: top you know tight ends in the league, which it's
- 52:20Speaker 3: still pretty good, but you do want your tight end
- 52:22Speaker 3: to be the guy that when there's you know, a
- 52:26Speaker 3: contested catch for a touchdown, he's got to be able
- 52:28Speaker 3: to win. And I'm not saying Goddard can't, but he's
- 52:31Speaker 3: definitely not been utilized in that capacity. Like you would
- 52:35Speaker 3: expect a guy who towers over everyone to be more
- 52:38Speaker 3: of a factor in that, like just throw it up high,
- 52:40Speaker 3: let him get it. And I wonder if maybe they
- 52:42Speaker 3: don't need him to be that because AJ Brown is
- 52:46Speaker 3: so much that, you know, he might not be taller
- 52:49Speaker 3: than all of the guys covering him like Goddard is,
- 52:52Speaker 3: but you know, when contested catches come, he's getting it.
- 52:56Speaker 3: So I do think that he might need to step up,
- 52:59Speaker 3: But so I think for the deal that he's on,
- 53:03Speaker 3: he's probably fine. When you do have AJ Brown, Devonte
- 53:06Speaker 3: Smith and Saquon Barkley. Like you know, as long as
- 53:10Speaker 3: he can make the play.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 53:14Speaker 3: On third down it's kind of the yeah, like sixty
- 53:16Speaker 3: percent of the time, I'm okay with it, and.
- 53:18Speaker 1: I'm fine if that they're I mean, I look at
- 53:20Speaker 1: the stats from last season. I mean, only fifty nine receptions,
- 53:24Speaker 1: only three touchdowns last year, five hundred and ninety two
- 53:27Speaker 1: yards almost six hundred yards, which, like you said, I
- 53:30Speaker 1: don't think is terrible at all. Maybe that again in
- 53:32Speaker 1: terms of ranking number ten to number twelve tight end
- 53:35Speaker 1: perhaps in the league. But I think, you know that's
- 53:38Speaker 1: what's important. How is he being utilized? Is it on
- 53:40Speaker 1: third downs? Is he able to go up to the
- 53:42Speaker 1: catch point, bring it down, convert on first downs? If
- 53:45Speaker 1: that's what it's going to be, I am absolutely fine
- 53:48Speaker 1: with it in this new Kellen Moore offense. But you
- 53:50Speaker 1: look at the stats, and I know stats don't always
- 53:52Speaker 1: tell the full story. I just see a tight end
- 53:55Speaker 1: that is kind of downward trending in certain ways, and
- 53:59Speaker 1: he's he's got a ton of talent. It amazed me
- 54:01Speaker 1: he's actually been here since twenty eighteen. I can't believe
- 54:04Speaker 1: it's been that many years. So far, it seems like
- 54:07Speaker 1: just a couple of years ago he was drafted. But anyway,
- 54:09Speaker 1: I digress.
- 54:10Speaker 3: No, I think it's really interesting because you know, we
- 54:14Speaker 3: live through like Brett Sellick being this amazing tight end,
- 54:17Speaker 3: but he wasn't a receiving tight end. So then when
- 54:20Speaker 3: you know it transitioned to Zach Ertz, I feel like
- 54:22Speaker 3: we got a little spoiled because he was so special
- 54:26Speaker 3: in that regard. And then it goes to Goddard who's
- 54:28Speaker 3: maybe not quite as electric as a pass catcher, but
- 54:32Speaker 3: he's a lot bigger than Ertz ye at least you
- 54:35Speaker 3: know it looks that way, and so he kind of
- 54:38Speaker 3: has more of the size factor and is kind of
- 54:41Speaker 3: the perfect combination in my opinion, between Selek and Ertz
- 54:45Speaker 3: in terms of their like skill set. Like I think
- 54:47Speaker 3: Goddard is pretty good at blocking that maybe Ertz wasn't
- 54:50Speaker 3: always the best at. But he also can catch the
- 54:53Speaker 3: ball when Selik might not have been able to. So
- 54:56Speaker 3: I think looking at him to be or excel in
- 55:02Speaker 3: one over the other might be unfair to his like
- 55:06Speaker 3: talent that you know, being a middle of the line
- 55:10Speaker 3: receiving threat but also being able to you know, do
- 55:14Speaker 3: the blocking and other like things that they're asked to do.
- 55:17Speaker 3: You know, maybe that's where he is and maybe that's
- 55:20Speaker 3: what the team needs him to do.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, and based on where we're at in training
- 55:25Speaker 1: camp from the tweets that I am seeing from Eagles
- 55:27Speaker 1: Beat reporters, this new Kellen Moore offense has really taken shape.
- 55:31Speaker 1: At this point. Everybody is just so happy that we
- 55:35Speaker 1: are seeing pre snap motion and everybody everybody's just elated
- 55:40Speaker 1: by that. And it kind of like, you know, leads
- 55:43Speaker 1: me to you know, as we get into this next
- 55:44Speaker 1: topic here, like even if we have some legit questions
- 55:48Speaker 1: about the receivers, you know, they are still some of
- 55:51Speaker 1: the best skill position players that one Saquon Barkley has
- 55:55Speaker 1: ever been around since his days at Penn State. And
- 55:58Speaker 1: even though a lot of us are excited about Saquon Barkley,
- 56:01Speaker 1: sometimes I think we kind of forget that he's really
- 56:03Speaker 1: going to be behind there and how much of a
- 56:05Speaker 1: dynamic difference maker he is going to make when his
- 56:07Speaker 1: number is called, because he's a legit three down back
- 56:11Speaker 1: and he's going to help bring this new balance I
- 56:14Speaker 1: think to this Eagles offense. Look, we know he's good
- 56:17Speaker 1: we know his skill level, alexis what will you be
- 56:22Speaker 1: looking for in terms of that, you know, quote Saquon
- 56:25Speaker 1: Barkley dynamic to bring really to this new offense.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and like you said, we know what he can do,
- 56:31Speaker 3: you know as a running back and as a runner,
- 56:34Speaker 3: and the weapon he's going to be and the run
- 56:36Speaker 3: threat between him and Jalen Hurts is just going to
- 56:39Speaker 3: give defenses nightmares and it's going to be so fun.
- 56:43Speaker 3: So I'm actually most interested in seeing some of the
- 56:45Speaker 3: other things that he'll hopefully bring. I mean, we desperately
- 56:49Speaker 3: needed help protecting Hurts last season, and so to have
- 56:51Speaker 3: a guy like Barkley who can also block at a
- 56:53Speaker 3: high level hopefully give them some answers to those blitzes
- 56:58Speaker 3: that here were literally no answers to last year. Like
- 57:02Speaker 3: those are the types of contributions from running backs that
- 57:05Speaker 3: I think the Eagles offense has needed for a while.
- 57:08Speaker 3: And that's the stuff I'm kind of more excited. Like,
- 57:10Speaker 3: you know, DeAndre Swift was an amazing runner, Like that
- 57:14Speaker 3: wasn't his concern last year, right, you know, Kenny Gainwell
- 57:17Speaker 3: can get it done in certain situations, Like that's not
- 57:20Speaker 3: the concern. It's like all those other things that contributes
- 57:24Speaker 3: to the offense that I think we've been missing. So
- 57:26Speaker 3: I'm hoping he's that stuff.
- 57:28Speaker 1: I agree too, I hope he is. Hope he's able
- 57:32Speaker 1: to bring that dynamic. And at the end of the day,
- 57:33Speaker 1: I mean, again, this is a new offense that we're
- 57:36Speaker 1: going to be seeing, and I swear a Lexis, I
- 57:39Speaker 1: better see Jalen Hurts throwing some balls over the middle
- 57:41Speaker 1: of the field on intermediate routes. I better see that.
- 57:44Speaker 1: That's what we want. It's a new offense for Hurts,
- 57:47Speaker 1: So it's going to be interesting to see what that
- 57:49Speaker 1: balance of the rushing attack and what that passing game
- 57:52Speaker 1: is going to be, how it manifests itself throughout training
- 57:54Speaker 1: camp and even in some of the preseason games. I mean,
- 57:57Speaker 1: the Eagles were nineteenth in yards per carry since Week
- 58:01Speaker 1: four last season, and they were ranked thirty second in
- 58:03Speaker 1: yards after contact, which is definitely I think going to
- 58:07Speaker 1: change this year. So to before we head over the
- 58:11Speaker 1: defense and we're still on offense here, what kind of
- 58:13Speaker 1: balance do you want to see with this new offense.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm kind of on the fence about this, So
- 58:21Speaker 3: you know, going again, going back to Ohio, State. Urban
- 58:24Speaker 3: Meyer used to say the perfect offense is fifty percent run,
- 58:27Speaker 3: fifty percent pass, right, But I really don't think that
- 58:31Speaker 3: that's the case, especially the way the Eagles do their
- 58:35Speaker 3: game planning, Like every week, they don't really consider having
- 58:38Speaker 3: a specific scheme so much so that they just look for,
- 58:43Speaker 3: you know, the matchups against whoever their next opponent is.
- 58:46Speaker 3: So you know, if one game they run the ball
- 58:49Speaker 3: twice and pass one hundred times, but they win, and
- 58:52Speaker 3: then the next game, you know, Barkley carries it thirty times,
- 58:56Speaker 3: they win. Yeah, Like I don't I don't really care
- 59:00Speaker 3: what the split is because I think this team can
- 59:02Speaker 3: do it all. So I think it's every week. I
- 59:05Speaker 3: think it's going to change a lot.
- 59:07Speaker 1: So matchup dependent. Matchup dependent basically is what you're saying.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Yeah, And so I think it's you know, it might
- 59:12Speaker 3: be skewed at the end of the year or at
- 59:15Speaker 3: the end of the season when it's like, oh, you know, collectively,
- 59:18Speaker 3: over the season, this is what they did. But I think,
- 59:21Speaker 3: you know, if you pay play a defense who's really
- 59:23Speaker 3: bad against the run and you just run it three
- 59:26Speaker 3: weeks in a row, like that's you know, you'd have
- 59:28Speaker 3: to do what you have to do to win, So
- 59:29Speaker 3: I guess I'm not really concerned about what that looks
- 59:33Speaker 3: like so long as they're effective.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Gotcha, gotcha? All right, folks, again, Alexis Chason from Bleedinggreen
- 59:39Speaker 1: Nation dot com. Check out everything they're doing over there
- 59:43Speaker 1: and follow her on Twitter slash x at Lovely Buckeyes.
- 59:46Speaker 1: She's a great, great follow And again moving over to
- 59:49Speaker 1: the defense here, following this cornerback talent throughout training camp
- 59:53Speaker 1: is going to be fascinating. We know how much Howie
- 59:57Speaker 1: Roseman in the front office invested in the corner back
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: in the safety position the secondary and revamping it. The
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: million dollar question is what are they gonna do with
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: James Bradberry, Because you know, both players and coaches have
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: said like he's gonna play and he's gonna contribute. Of course,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: that's the lines they have had to tote throughout the
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: course of the offseason. But we're coming up to that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: line in the sand here, that line in the sand
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: where the front office is going to need to make
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: some sort of decision. I think about James Bradbury, whether
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: he stays and how he may contribute, or whether he
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: goes in some way, shape or form, Alexis, how do
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: you think this storyline is going to play out here
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: throughout training camp and perhaps into the season if he's here.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he'll contribute to the scout team. I think I
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: think depth is always good. Today they had him or
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: you know, on Wednesday they had him taking second team
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: snaps at safety. I think I'm fine with him staying
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: in Philly as long as he's okay being a backup
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: slash like role player and move around as needed. You know,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: now he'll have two off seasons with like safety experience,
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: which gives him a little more like versatility, and his
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: contract doesn't really make me mad enough to care too
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: much if he's on the roster right like, because his experience.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: You know, they do have a lot of young guys.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: If he can be sort of that mentor you know,
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: he he was phenomenal in twenty twenty two, like most
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: of his career was impressive. Last year was not. But
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: he still I think does have a lot to bring
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: to the table. But I don't want him in the
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: starting lineup on week one, Like that's not where I
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: want him, But I don't I don't mind him staying
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: at this point, Like I could see the value in
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: having him, and some of that might be on a
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: scout team exactly.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I think it's important for folks also to realize that
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: NFL players, they can have a stinker of a season,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: they can perform badly, and they can bounce back from it.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I'm not saying I'm not sitting here saying James brad
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: is going to be doing that by any stretch of
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the imagination, but it is possible. We've seen it time
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and time again where and it's not even from a
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: cornerback or a secondary based talent. You know, we see
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: it on the offensive lines. We see it with quarterbacks,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we see it with running backs as well. NFL players
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: they can have stinkers of a season, but they do
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: have the ability to bounce back. And as we're moving along,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I do have to say that I have concerns with
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: this defensive line too. Another storyline a lot of us
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: have been following as well, and I've been saying it
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: since the spring. There's some old guys on this defensive
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: line and there's some brand new guys on this defensive
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: line too. What is the mix going to be and
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: how the defensive line is going to be shuffling itself
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: throughout the course of this season in terms of not
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: just who's going to be starting, but what the rotation
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: is going to be, Like, who's going to be contributing
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: mostly on first downs, who's going to be contributing then
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: on third downs as well? We just really don't know,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I think what we're going to get from a defensive
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: line stampt Alexis, I'm wondering, are you concerned about the
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: D line? Why or why not?
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Well, I think your concerns are totally valid. For some
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: unknown reason, that group rely isn't or hasn't been on
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: my radar as an area of CONCERNI line. I have
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: a lot of opinions about how the defense was handled
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: last year. But I spent a lot of time listening
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: to Sean Decai early in the season, and he talked
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: about having to earn the right to rush the quarterback.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: And I really like that because you really do have.
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: To stop the run first, yeah, and then you have
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: earned the right to get after the quarterback, right, And
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: so you know, I think that's going to be a
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: main focus for them, is stopping the run.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: But you know, if nothing else, I still have faith,
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: you know, Jordan Davis is still huge, albeit a lot
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: more toned and seemingly better condition condition than last year.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: And you know, Jalen Carter showed more than enough to
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: earn my optimism heading into this season. And everyone says
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: that Milton Williams is super underappreciated, and so you know,
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Nolan Smith came back looking a lot bigger. You still
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: have Brandon Graham out there. I think there's enough pieces
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: to still be a dominant group. And so, like I said,
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: your concerns are totally valid. It's just not something that
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: like I'm concerned about until you know, until week one
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: when it becomes like obvious maybe they need a little
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: bit of depth.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Yes, I mean, for me, it's a matter of who
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: are going to take those next steps? Nolan Smith, you
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: want to see the former first round pick take a
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: next a next step, even Josh Sweat having a really
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: really nice season last year kind of dropping off towards
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: the end, seeing if he can really put it all
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: together in one season. Can Milton Williams take that next
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: step as well? And also Jordan Davis too. Like again,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: all of these contributing factors about guys needing to take
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: the next step, that that's what I want to see
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: do I think they can do. I think they have
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: the coaches to be able to help them do that, absolutely,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: And I think that's inevitably what I'm going to be
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: interested in hearing about behind the scenes too, what's the
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: relationship like with the defensive line coach and this crew,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: because I think if the relationship as cohesive, if these
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: guys are coachable, then they are going to move ahead
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: and progress very very well. So it's something it's gonna
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: be on my radar for sure. So I'm gonna let
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: you go in just a bit here, Alexis. But one
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: more topic I wanted to dive into with you, and
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: it's the obvious one and the one everybody's been talking
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: about the pressure on Nick Sirianni to win this year
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: and to win big. But the real question is, you know,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: to what extent for him to be able to keep
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: his job. Where does he need to take this Philadelphia
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Eagles team. We were talking about this last week on
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: this show, and both Len and I we believe he
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: needs to outright win the divisional round and make it
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: to the NFC Championship game in order for him to
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: potentially keep his job. Look, I think It's amazing he
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: was able to keep his job this past offseason. A
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: lot of different dynamics went into that, of course, but
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: I wanted to get your thoughts here. You know, what's
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni gonna have to do in order to keep
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: his job and to get this Eagles team to where
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I think they can be given what we see on
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: paper here at least, What are your thoughts?
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I think that he definitely needs to win the NFC East.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: I think if he wins the division, he keeps his job. Okay,
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: if he doesn't win the division but still makes it
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: two games, like you said, you know, win the divisional
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: round of the playoffs, I could see him also keeping
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: his job. Like I don't think it has to necessarily
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: be both. I think winning the division and getting to
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: the playoffs would be enough, especially you know after last
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: year and how the division went crumbled under them.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: I think a lot of people have a problem with
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: him being this sort of you know, like manager type
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: role instead of being super involved in the offense or defense.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: But like that doesn't bother me. Yeah, I agree too,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: because there's been a lot of coaches throughout NFL history
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: that have had that type of role. I mean, look, look,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: people will complain and Steelers fans complain about Mike Tomlin,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: but he's always had he's always had that role and
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: he's still there. And yeah, they haven't necessarily seen that
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: much success, but it's still the type of leadership that
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: you want for your locker room and for the roster.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: I think. So that's just one example of that quote
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: manager of things being able to be somewhat successful. Yeah.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: And I would argue too that you know, if you
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: wanted him to solely focus on the offense, then he
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: should just be an offensive coordinator. And last year when
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: he tried to be kind of in charge of the
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: offense but was still the head coach, I mean we
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: all saw how that went right, and that was a disaster.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: So like, I don't want him half in either, if
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: like running things like because as a head coach you
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: do have to have like your hand in every single
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: position and that's going to be hard to do if
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: you're also, you know, the one solely in charge of
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: deciding what kind of offense you want. So I really
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: like that role for him, and I think, yeah, I
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: think his seat is warm.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I'm not.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: I'm not as far that it's like a hot seat.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I think he and how we have a good relationship.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: They've always had sort of like this awkward dynamic to
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: me when they're in press conferences together, like how he
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: tries to play up, how they have inside jokes and
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: it just seems weird to me most of the time.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: But to during their intro press conference to training camp,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: it seemed like a much more natural relationship.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: So, I feel like, as you know, he gets as
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: Sirianni gets his like feet, you know, more firmly on
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: the ground, starts developing what this team and this team's
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: identity will be. I think as the season goes, unless
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: it like completely explodes and we just waste all this
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: talent that we have, I think he'll probably get more
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: lee way than people are maybe thinking he will at
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: this point.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: All right, very good, gonna let you go. Alexis Chasin
