- 1:16Speaker 1: since Skyline becoming the official chili of the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Gold Star was a great partner with the Bengals organization
- 1:25Speaker 1: for more than two decades, but let's face it, Skyline
- 1:28Speaker 1: is the most popular brand of Cincinnati styled chili, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: now Bengals fans will be able to get Skyline Chili
- 1:36Speaker 1: cheese Cony's at concession stands throughout pay Course Stadium. The
- 1:41Speaker 1: Bengals and Skyline are also going to team up on
- 1:44Speaker 1: a collectible cup series. I think I will celebrate by
- 1:48Speaker 1: having my standard order a four way with light onion,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and I put one cracker on each forkfull to add
- 1:56Speaker 1: a little salt and crunch, and in case Ius you're interested,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I cut, not twirl. Now let's get to the Bengals
- 2:06Speaker 1: first round draft pick, Clemson defensive end Miles Murphy. He's
- 2:11Speaker 1: six four, two hundred and sixty eight pounds and ran
- 2:15Speaker 1: a four five three forty at his pro day. Murphy
- 2:18Speaker 1: had six and a half sacks last year, seven the
- 2:22Speaker 1: year before, and he's only twenty one years old. Dane
- 2:27Speaker 1: Brugler from the Athletic wrote the following about Murphy in
- 2:30Speaker 1: his Draft Guide quote. He is naturally gifted with the
- 2:34Speaker 1: explosive traits play, speed, and length to be a disruptive,
- 2:39Speaker 1: leverage power rusher in the NFL. He projects as a
- 2:42Speaker 1: base end and a four man front with the floor
- 2:46Speaker 1: of an NFL starter. Greg Cosel from NFL Films calls
- 2:50Speaker 1: Murphy a solid defensive end prospect with excellent size, length,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and overall athleticism who needs refinement work as an edge
- 3:00Speaker 1: pass rusher to become a high level player in the NFL.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Here's Bengals head coach Zach Taylor on getting Murphy at
- 3:09Speaker 1: pick number twenty eight.
- 3:12Speaker 3: This was in a scenario we thought was going to
- 3:13Speaker 3: play out for us, To be quite honest with you,
- 3:15Speaker 3: you know, it's anything can happen, and but you know,
- 3:18Speaker 3: in all of our discussions we had over the previous days,
- 3:20Speaker 3: I didn't think that Miles Murphy was gonna be there
- 3:22Speaker 3: at twenty eight. I think that's what you know, Duke
- 3:25Speaker 3: does a great job of is laying it out and
- 3:27Speaker 3: in talking about it. Five picks before, four picks before shoot.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I think eight picks before is when we really started
- 3:31Speaker 3: the conversation and you're watching guys get checked off the
- 3:35Speaker 3: board and some are. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes
- 3:37Speaker 3: it's a bad thing. But I think we had a
- 3:40Speaker 3: high degree of confidence that if he was there, we
- 3:42Speaker 3: were going to take him and feel really good about it.
- 3:44Speaker 3: He came in here on a visit, so we've met
- 3:46Speaker 3: with him a couple of times, felt really good about
- 3:49Speaker 3: all the things that come with that. So again, just
- 3:52Speaker 3: just excited that he was there. At twenty eight for us.
- 3:55Speaker 1: There were only three teams in the NFL that had
- 3:57Speaker 1: fewer sacks than Cincinnati last year, and the Bengals finished
- 4:01Speaker 1: twenty first in past rush win rate. Here's defensive coordinator
- 4:06Speaker 1: lou Anromo at how Murphy can help.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Oh, he'll be in the rotation right away. You know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: we play a ton of d linemens, so you know
- 4:14Speaker 4: he'll he'll jump right in there, and you know, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: back up Sam and Trey and and get right in there,
- 4:20Speaker 4: like I said, in the mix with those guys and
- 4:23Speaker 4: being the in the third down rush package and you know,
- 4:27Speaker 4: whatever we come up with there. So I'm looking forward
- 4:30Speaker 4: to get him going right away. These great quarterbacks we
- 4:32Speaker 4: have to play, if they're back there in a clean pocket,
- 4:35Speaker 4: they're gonna pick your part, no matter how well you're
- 4:37Speaker 4: covering them. So to move them around, to get them
- 4:40Speaker 4: off their spot, to sack them and pressure them and
- 4:42Speaker 4: hit them. That's the only way you really can affect
- 4:45Speaker 4: these guys. So he's just another one along the lines.
- 4:48Speaker 4: We've got some darn good ones already, as I mentioned
- 4:51Speaker 4: with Trey and Sam and Joseph and and that group.
- 4:54Speaker 4: So this guy will jump right in there. He checks
- 4:56Speaker 4: all the boxes from a measurable standpoint, and you add
- 4:59Speaker 4: that with his makeup as a as a guy and
- 5:01Speaker 4: as a player teammate, those things. You know, that's what
- 5:04Speaker 4: kind of brings was brought a high level of you
- 5:08Speaker 4: know that we liked them the way we did.

- 5:30Speaker 1: attend the draft in Kansas City. His family rented out
- 5:33Speaker 1: a club and hosted a party for roughly one hundred
- 5:37Speaker 1: and seventy people. Miles says he was thrilled to be
- 5:40Speaker 1: selected in the first round and go to a team
- 5:43Speaker 1: that's been to back to back AFC Championship games.
- 5:48Speaker 5: I'm gonna say, like they you know, they have they
- 5:50Speaker 5: have all the pieces to be a consistent two of
- 5:52Speaker 5: old contender AFC Championship contender. But I just want to
- 5:56Speaker 5: be that. I do want to be that finishing piece
- 5:58Speaker 5: piece that you know, just you know, put push them over,
- 6:02Speaker 5: puts them over over, and pass that lest being a
- 6:05Speaker 5: consistent Super Bowl contender and it conses the Super Bowl
- 6:08Speaker 5: winner every year.
- 6:10Speaker 2: One thing that defensive coordinator lou Ana Rimo said in
- 6:13Speaker 2: his press conference a couple of minutes ago Miles was
- 6:16Speaker 2: that he expects you to come in and contribute right away.
- 6:19Speaker 2: What gives you the confidence and what in your career
- 6:21Speaker 2: at Clemson leads you to believe you'll be able to
- 6:25Speaker 2: contribute right away in your rookie year.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Well, that's that's been my expectation for the longest. About
- 6:31Speaker 5: to say ever since school. I had a mission to
- 6:33Speaker 5: come in and start dominate every year that I was
- 6:36Speaker 5: in college, and I still have a mission to come
- 6:38Speaker 5: in and do what I need to do to dominate
- 6:41Speaker 5: every down that's that's my that's all I've been my mission,
- 6:43Speaker 5: I was going to be my mission moving forward.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I imagine you've dreamed of this moment for a long time.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Can you describe the phone call it was?
- 6:53Speaker 5: I can't. I can't even explain it to you. It
- 6:55Speaker 5: was a whole bunch of emotions going for my body.
- 6:57Speaker 5: I was I was really shaken on the phone call.
- 6:59Speaker 5: I couldn't even tew words thout, but really just exciting. Really,
- 7:03Speaker 5: I'm just ready to play football. I just want to
- 7:05Speaker 5: play football, man. That's really, that's really my initial reaction
- 7:08Speaker 5: to man. I just I want to play football. Let's
- 7:10Speaker 5: be taking wherever, wherever, at whatever number, wherever I'm playing.
- 7:16Speaker 5: I just want to play football, man. That's all I
- 7:17Speaker 5: want to do right now.
- 7:19Speaker 6: These visits kind of run all together.
- 7:21Speaker 7: But when you left your visit with the Bengals, did
- 7:23Speaker 7: you have a good feeling that you might be in
- 7:25Speaker 7: play for them?
- 7:27Speaker 5: I mean I had a good knowing that they liked me.
- 7:29Speaker 5: And when I was jail, I really loved the city,
- 7:32Speaker 5: love the coaches. Already already knew ulin coach did, so
- 7:37Speaker 5: you know, I feel comfortable when I was at a
- 7:38Speaker 5: whole time.
- 7:41Speaker 1: My House is expected to arrive in Cincinnati on Saturday.

- 8:09Speaker 1: for analysis of Round one and look ahead to Friday,
- 8:13Speaker 1: second and third rounds with Dave Lapham Lap. One of
- 8:17Speaker 1: the best cornerbacks was still on the board, Joey Porter Junior.
- 8:21Speaker 1: He was ranked number sixteen on Dame Brugler's board, six
- 8:24Speaker 1: three thirty four inch arms. Everybody seemed to think he
- 8:27Speaker 1: was going to be a first round pick.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Obviously.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The great tight end from Comington Catholic High School and
- 8:32Speaker 1: Notre Dame, Michael Meyer, was still on the board. He
- 8:35Speaker 1: had been mocked to Cincinnati on various mock drafts forever,
- 8:39Speaker 1: but they went with a pass rusher in Miles Murphy.
- 8:42Speaker 7: Why well, you know, Dan, I think we talked about,
- 8:48Speaker 7: you know, during the course of our interviews with each
- 8:51Speaker 7: other leading up to the draft. That has definitely become
- 8:55Speaker 7: a quarterback driven league, not that it wasn't before. When
- 8:58Speaker 7: you're paying guys fifty million a year, you know, it's
- 9:01Speaker 7: like that. That's that's where the game is. The game
- 9:03Speaker 7: is in the air, there's no doubt about it. So
- 9:06Speaker 7: you try to do everything you possibly can to affect
- 9:08Speaker 7: the quarterback. The Bengals have one of the best in
- 9:11Speaker 7: the NFL and Joe Burrow, but in the a SC
- 9:14Speaker 7: there's Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, now josh Allen, Lamar Jackson's
- 9:20Speaker 7: reapted with Baltimore Herbert to Lawrence Watson. You know, he's
- 9:27Speaker 7: got the most guaranteed money of anybody up in Cleveland.
- 9:29Speaker 7: They're expecting big things out of him. Denver just expecting
- 9:33Speaker 7: a rebound season from Wilson. So, I mean, the AFC
- 9:36Speaker 7: is loaded with outstanding quarterbacks that are capable of out
- 9:40Speaker 7: standing quarterback play. So two, the thing you have to
- 9:45Speaker 7: do is pressure them, get them off their spot, hasten
- 9:48Speaker 7: their reads, make them make poor, poorer decisions. And you know,
- 9:54Speaker 7: so you need edge rush guys, and you need corners
- 9:56Speaker 7: to make the windows tighter. And there's a good chance
- 9:59Speaker 7: they'll probably go corner, maybe in round two potentially instead
- 10:04Speaker 7: of the order being corner then edge rusher.
- 10:06Speaker 6: They've got their edge rusher.
- 10:08Speaker 7: Now they may think corner because you know, when you
- 10:10Speaker 7: look at it, Dan, in the top one hundred picks,
- 10:14Speaker 7: fifteen corners were projected to potentially go in those top
- 10:18Speaker 7: one hundred picks the first two days of the draft,
- 10:21Speaker 7: and at this point in time only four are off
- 10:25Speaker 7: the board, which is pretty remarkable.
- 10:27Speaker 6: So at some point here there's.
- 10:29Speaker 7: Going to be a run on corners, and you just
- 10:32Speaker 7: wonder and hope that it doesn't take place before the
- 10:35Speaker 7: Bengals are maybe ready for a selection at number sixty.
- 10:38Speaker 7: But fourteen offensive players went off the board, seventeen defensive
- 10:42Speaker 7: players went off the board. The Bengals were a participant
- 10:46Speaker 7: in the biggest participatory position, edge rush. Seven edge rush
- 10:51Speaker 7: guys go off the board in round one.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's pretty telling. Miles Murphy's sack numbers were solid, but
- 10:58Speaker 1: not spectacular. He had seventeen and a half sex in
- 11:02Speaker 1: his three years, but he had thirty seven tackles for
- 11:05Speaker 1: loss double digits every year. He forced six fumbles. He
- 11:10Speaker 1: just celebrated his twenty first birthday on January third. At
- 11:14Speaker 1: his pro day, he measured sixty four to two hundred
- 11:17Speaker 1: and seventy one pounds. He ran a four five three forty.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Let's put that in perspective. Cooper Cup ran a four
- 11:24Speaker 1: to six to two at the Combine several years ago.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So this guy is a freak. I think he's been
- 11:30Speaker 1: a very solid player, but obviously there's still the potential
- 11:33Speaker 1: for him to elevate his game and become more dominant.
- 11:36Speaker 7: No doubt, Dan, I mean, and the guy not only
- 11:39Speaker 7: does he have the long speed, a two hundred and
- 11:42Speaker 7: seventy pound guy running four to five come on, oh
- 11:45Speaker 7: my gosh, he's got you know, he's got the short
- 11:49Speaker 7: space quickness, he's got the short space agility you know,
- 11:54Speaker 7: to go along with it. And he's an explosive player.
- 11:58Speaker 7: He's a disruptive player. He can kind of trait and
- 12:00Speaker 7: riek havoc. And the tackles for loss that you're referencing,
- 12:03Speaker 7: not just the quarterback sacks. Two Power five players recorded
- 12:08Speaker 7: at least thirty five tackles for lost and at least
- 12:10Speaker 7: six to four s fumbles across the last three college
- 12:12Speaker 7: football seasons. He was one of them. He's the only
- 12:16Speaker 7: player in the country to produce at least ten tackles
- 12:19Speaker 7: for lost and at least one forced bumble in each
- 12:21Speaker 7: of the last three seasons. So he's done it, and
- 12:24Speaker 7: he's done it consistently. Not a one hit wonder, not
- 12:28Speaker 7: one year of like amazing productivity, but every single year
- 12:33Speaker 7: he'll give it to you.
- 12:34Speaker 6: And I agree.
- 12:35Speaker 7: At twenty one years old, I mean, his best football
- 12:38Speaker 7: is still way ahead of him. So there's development there,
- 12:43Speaker 7: there's upside potential there. And when you look at it, Dan,
- 12:48Speaker 7: the Bengals organization has had success drafting Clemson players. They've
- 12:54Speaker 7: had coaches from Clemson. In fact, coach Hobby, the defensive
- 12:58Speaker 7: line coach, knows Miles Murphy and his ability's pretty darn well.
- 13:04Speaker 7: And when you've had success with coaches and players from
- 13:10Speaker 7: a university or college, you keep going back to it.
- 13:13Speaker 7: And the Bengals have gone on record saying we like
- 13:15Speaker 7: to draft players from big schools that have achieved and
- 13:20Speaker 7: earned success. And they won national championships and played at
- 13:24Speaker 7: the highest level. And so it's all worked and they
- 13:27Speaker 7: went to the Clemson.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Well again, let's talk about Miles Murphy's role. This year.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Sam Hubbard played more than eight hundred snaps in the
- 13:35Speaker 1: regular season. Last year, he was in on nearly eighty
- 13:38Speaker 1: percent of the Bengals defensive snaps. He'll be twenty eight
- 13:41Speaker 1: in June. Trey Hendrickson has already twenty eight. He played
- 13:44Speaker 1: six hundred and twenty nine snaps in the regular season,
- 13:47Speaker 1: even though he missed a game due to injury, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: he battled injuries throughout much of the year. How helpful
- 13:53Speaker 1: is it to those guy to get those two guys
- 13:55Speaker 1: to get somebody else in the rotation that can legitimately
- 13:58Speaker 1: not only pressure the quarterback, but it's big enough to
- 14:01Speaker 1: play the run if needed.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's it's massive, it really is. I mean,
- 14:06Speaker 7: you keep guys fresh, you know, in the second half
- 14:09Speaker 7: and in the fourth quarter. In the National Football League
- 14:13Speaker 7: usually games are one score games, so you need guys
- 14:16Speaker 7: to to to be able to just you know, put
- 14:19Speaker 7: on that burst one needed in that fourth quarter and uh,
- 14:23Speaker 7: you know you don't usually experience. Oh let's stick it
- 14:26Speaker 7: and cruise control and just cruise through the rest of
- 14:28Speaker 7: this football game. I mean, you're you're playing at an
- 14:31Speaker 7: intense level every single snap and in most NFL football games,
- 14:36Speaker 7: so you cannot have enough good edge rush people, interior
- 14:40Speaker 7: defensive alignement, cornerbacks in coverage and uh. You know, in
- 14:46Speaker 7: speaking about how the numbers uh went down with respect
- 14:52Speaker 7: to the draft defensive tackles and edge rush guys, you
- 14:56Speaker 7: know you had eleven guys already off the board for
- 14:59Speaker 7: defense tackles, seven edge rush guys, four cornerbacks. That's fifteen
- 15:05Speaker 7: players right there on the defensive side of it. You
- 15:08Speaker 7: want to have as many of them as you possibly
- 15:10Speaker 7: can on your roster, There's no.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Doubt about it.
- 15:14Speaker 7: And the thing is lou Aana Rumo uses them all.
- 15:16Speaker 7: And the versatility that Miles Murphy provides. With that athleticism,
- 15:22Speaker 7: lou Ana Roumo has got another chess piece to work with.
- 15:25Speaker 7: He can play on the edge, he can kick inside,
- 15:28Speaker 7: he can cover in the flat. And when now that
- 15:32Speaker 7: Jackson has re signed with Baltimore, that five defensive lineman package,
- 15:37Speaker 7: you got a lot of guys out there and you
- 15:39Speaker 7: want to rotate guys in there. And Miles Murphy with
- 15:42Speaker 7: that four five forty, he's got the short space quickness
- 15:45Speaker 7: to effect Lamar Jackson. He can also run him down.
- 15:48Speaker 7: You know, He's got the speed and to run people
- 15:52Speaker 7: down on the football field. He's got short space quickness
- 15:55Speaker 7: and he's got long speed. That's a heck of a combination.
- 15:58Speaker 7: And a guy that's both to six ' five and
- 16:01Speaker 7: probably over two hundred and seventy pounds.
- 16:02Speaker 6: That's it's remarkable.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah had Murphy at number twenty one on his
- 16:08Speaker 1: final big board. Who was the same for Dane Brugler
- 16:10Speaker 1: from the Athletic number twenty one on his final big board.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Do you figure that the Bengals Can we take them
- 16:16Speaker 1: at their word when they say that they had him
- 16:19Speaker 1: grated much higher than number twenty eight?
- 16:21Speaker 6: Yeah? I think so.
- 16:22Speaker 7: You know, in the in the pressure last night and
- 16:24Speaker 7: asked him where in the first round did you say,
- 16:30Speaker 7: Miles Murphy, we'd like this to be our guy, and
- 16:35Speaker 7: when did you target him? And they said, like a
- 16:38Speaker 7: round pick twenty. You know, it was like, boy, Miles
- 16:41Speaker 7: Murphy's still there. Let's this is the guy we want.
- 16:44Speaker 7: They covered Miles Murphy. Let's go after Miles Murphy. There
- 16:47Speaker 7: he was at twenty eight, and there probably were some
- 16:51Speaker 7: phone calls about, you know, about trading back. They decided
- 16:56Speaker 7: not to do that and they made that pick, I
- 16:59Speaker 7: mean a minute and they were all over it.
- 17:02Speaker 2: There was.
- 17:03Speaker 7: All the decisions have been made. They ran up to
- 17:06Speaker 7: that ran up to the to the hit hand, that
- 17:10Speaker 7: pick in as fast as they possibly could, and Miles
- 17:13Speaker 7: Murphy is now Cincinnati Bengal.
- 17:16Speaker 1: All right, let's look ahead to rounds two and three
- 17:19Speaker 1: coming up on Friday night. You mentioned the corners, A
- 17:22Speaker 1: lot of them still there. Joey Porter still on the board.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I can't imagine he will get to pick sixty, but
- 17:26Speaker 1: he's there for now. But you've still got Keeley Ringo,
- 17:29Speaker 1: DJ Turner, Julius Brandts, Tyreek, Stevenson, Cam Smith, Clark Phillips,
- 17:34Speaker 1: and others. There are a lot of tight ends still
- 17:36Speaker 1: on the board. Sam Laporta, Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, Luke Schoonmaker,
- 17:41Speaker 1: Josh Wiley, Will Mallory. You've got a lot of running
- 17:44Speaker 1: backs still on the board, Zach Sharbonay, Devin ad Shane,
- 17:47Speaker 1: Taja Spears, Take Bigsby Roe, Sean Johnson. Do you figure
- 17:52Speaker 1: the Bengals second round pick will come from one of
- 17:55Speaker 1: those positions? And if so, which one do you think
- 17:59Speaker 1: is most likely?
- 18:00Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:01Speaker 7: You know all the quote experts and then others that
- 18:06Speaker 7: I talked to, I mean, top one hundred picks. Ten
- 18:10Speaker 7: to twelve tight ends, all right, might be available. One
- 18:14Speaker 7: is off the board at this point in time. Fifteen
- 18:17Speaker 7: cornerbacks may be available. Four or off the board at
- 18:21Speaker 7: this point in time. You know, you got to think, man,
- 18:24Speaker 7: you know we've already took an edge guy, took took
- 18:28Speaker 7: you know, the twelve defensive ends, ten defensive tackles, twenty
- 18:33Speaker 7: two down linemen might be available in the top one
- 18:36Speaker 7: hundred picks, half of them have already been consumed. So
- 18:40Speaker 7: you know, our thought, Dan, I think we were in
- 18:42Speaker 7: the same school of thought that it was, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 7: going to be defense, alright, defecting the quarterbacks. Like we
- 18:47Speaker 7: already talked about somebody on the edge and somebody in
- 18:50Speaker 7: the back end and might have been corner first and
- 18:53Speaker 7: then edge rush guy might reverse itself out, could be
- 18:56Speaker 7: edge guy and then corner. So there's a good chance, no,
- 19:00Speaker 7: there could be a cornerback that that that might be available.
- 19:04Speaker 7: But you know, you look at it, there's there's positions
- 19:07Speaker 7: that have not been addressed. There has not been a
- 19:09Speaker 7: safety drafted. There's not been a center drafted, has not
- 19:12Speaker 7: been a guard drafted. But on the back end, there's
- 19:15Speaker 7: not been a safety drafted, So all of those safeties
- 19:18Speaker 7: are in play as well. And a lot of those
- 19:21Speaker 7: safeties can play slot corner and they give position versatility.
- 19:26Speaker 7: A lot of them aren't just you know, you know,
- 19:28Speaker 7: big bodied, very stiff safeties on the back end.
- 19:32Speaker 6: These guys are very versatile football players.
- 19:35Speaker 7: And lou Anroumo once again, there's a lot of things
- 19:37Speaker 7: with those safeties back there in terms of his his
- 19:41Speaker 7: big chess board. So they've got they've got options. They've
- 19:44Speaker 7: got options back there that have not in some cases
- 19:47Speaker 7: haven't even been addressed whatsoever. No safeties, one tight end,
- 19:53Speaker 7: just four corners. It'll be very interesting to see when
- 19:57Speaker 7: the runs start and the order that they start in.
- 19:59Speaker 7: But Levis is on the board still mayor quarter branch
- 20:04Speaker 7: like you talked about. I mean, that's gonna everybody's resetting
- 20:08Speaker 7: their boards and they're saying, wow, we didn't expect this
- 20:11Speaker 7: gotta be there, This gotta be there. It's gonna push
- 20:13Speaker 7: some people back in the Bengals, it might be quite
- 20:17Speaker 7: interesting to see what's unearthed and left at number sixty.
- 20:21Speaker 1: We did not get our wishes in round one. You
- 20:24Speaker 1: had targeted two players, Lucas van Ness, the pass rusher,
- 20:28Speaker 1: out of Iowa. He went thirteenth to Green Bay. You
- 20:30Speaker 1: also liked Emmanuel Forbes, the cornerback from Mississippi State. He
- 20:33Speaker 1: went sixteenth to Washington. I had ultimately settled on Elijah Cansei,
- 20:38Speaker 1: the defensive tackle from pitt He went nineteenth to Tampa Bay.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So our three guys all went in the top twenty.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I think we're kind of an agreement for who we
- 20:47Speaker 1: have our fingers crossed about for round two, and that
- 20:50Speaker 1: is tight end Sam Laporta out of Iowa. If he
- 20:53Speaker 1: could somehow make it to number sixty, I'd look at
- 20:56Speaker 1: him and I see Mark Andrews, the great receiving weapon
- 20:59Speaker 1: for the Baltimore Ravens. Is that your guy? Are we
- 21:02Speaker 1: in agreement that Sam Laporta would kind of be the
- 21:04Speaker 1: fantasy if he somehow makes it to sixty.
- 21:07Speaker 6: I mean he's got to be in the discussion.
- 21:09Speaker 7: I mean if he makes it to six yet, you
- 21:11Speaker 7: know you think he'd be gone somewhere in the mid forties.
- 21:15Speaker 7: Uh at the worst case scenario with just one tight
- 21:18Speaker 7: end off the board at this point in time, well,
- 21:20Speaker 7: you know, will when will the tight end run happen?
- 21:23Speaker 6: Uh? There's going to be a run.
- 21:25Speaker 7: Uh, but yeah, Laporte is a guy that got good
- 21:30Speaker 7: sized uh sub four six runs in the four fives.
- 21:34Speaker 7: He's a very good hands, good after the catch. A
- 21:39Speaker 7: lot of mistackles, a lot of broken tackles comes from Iowa.
- 21:44Speaker 7: You know, you got Kittle, you got TJ. Howkinson. There's
- 21:46Speaker 7: a there's a pedigree there being a tight end from Iowa.
- 21:50Speaker 7: He did not his senior year, did not have much
- 21:54Speaker 7: at the quarterback position. His numbers suffered as a result.
- 21:58Speaker 7: But this guy, in my mind, is a complete football player,
- 22:03Speaker 7: and I'd like to see them them draft Laporta if
- 22:07Speaker 7: he's there, there's no doubt Dan, But you know, if
- 22:09Speaker 7: there's if there's a corner that's you know, looming there,
- 22:13Speaker 7: and it's like, man, the run on corners hasn't happened,
- 22:16Speaker 7: and other things took place first. I would think too,
- 22:20Speaker 7: that offensive tackle has been has been addressed by a
- 22:25Speaker 7: few people for offensive tackles off the board, but that's
- 22:29Speaker 7: not that's not a huge number. And you know there
- 22:32Speaker 7: might be an offensive tackle sitting there. I think that
- 22:35Speaker 7: our boy from Syracuse brosi'ren sitting there. If he makes
- 22:40Speaker 7: it down to sixty, that guy I'd be I would
- 22:43Speaker 7: not have a problem with them drafting Syracuse offensive tackle
- 22:47Speaker 7: at number sixty.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Well, how about Dewan Jones, the six eight, three hundred
- 22:52Speaker 1: and seventy four pound tackle from Ohio State. I know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: because of his weight, he's a little bit polarizing. Some
- 22:58Speaker 1: people say buy or beware, But there were other points
- 23:01Speaker 1: during the draft process where people had him mocked in
- 23:04Speaker 1: the first round to Cincinnati.
- 23:06Speaker 7: Yeah, and I think that's the reason that he's still
- 23:08Speaker 7: there Dan, because he was three seventy something for the combine.
- 23:13Speaker 7: But I've heard recently he waited at three ninety three,
- 23:16Speaker 7: so he's approaching four hundred and he could he could
- 23:20Speaker 7: be four to ten, four fifteen. He could be one
- 23:24Speaker 7: of those kind of guys because he is one massive man.
- 23:28Speaker 6: I mean every.
- 23:29Speaker 7: Way you can be big, this man is big, enormous, enormous.
- 23:36Speaker 7: I mean it's like he's incredible. It's almost like when
- 23:41Speaker 7: you thought guys like that were extinct, you know, back
- 23:45Speaker 7: in the in the dinosaur era.
- 23:47Speaker 6: He is one big dude.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So the Bengals don't want to move up, They would
- 23:54Speaker 1: rather move back and get extra picks. I think that's
- 23:57Speaker 1: true about just about any team in the NFL. But
- 23:59Speaker 1: if you look at last year, they wanted a corner.
- 24:03Speaker 1: When they got to the second round, there was only
- 24:05Speaker 1: one that they thought was worthy of being selected, Cam
- 24:08Speaker 1: Taylor Britt, so they moved up.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Yep.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Could you see a scenario this year? Same thing? Cornerbacks.
- 24:13Speaker 1: They want a corner if they want to add depth
- 24:15Speaker 1: to that position group. I mentioned some of the names
- 24:17Speaker 1: that are still there. If one of those guys and
- 24:20Speaker 1: only one is left and they're you know, seven or
- 24:23Speaker 1: eight picks away, could you see it?
- 24:28Speaker 7: I could see it, but don't expect it. You know,
- 24:31Speaker 7: you're only having seven picks. Those those those draft picks
- 24:35Speaker 7: you want to you want to try to hold on
- 24:38Speaker 7: to if you possibly can. If it doesn't work out
- 24:41Speaker 7: in the second round, you have to project to the
- 24:42Speaker 7: third what's going to be there in the third round,
- 24:45Speaker 7: and there'll still be some guys, you know, there that
- 24:47Speaker 7: they could probably work with in the third round. So
- 24:51Speaker 7: the one thing that we've talked about at nauseum with
- 24:55Speaker 7: this football team is their ability to be patient and pivot.
- 25:01Speaker 7: And you know, I think that's one of the biggest
- 25:04Speaker 7: reasons they're one of the top three teams, if not
- 25:07Speaker 7: the top team in the NFL. With their fifty three
- 25:10Speaker 7: man roster. You know, they have a remarkable ability to
- 25:16Speaker 7: have you know, multiple plans, playing AB through Z or whatever,
- 25:20Speaker 7: and they're patient and they'll pivot when necessary. So I
- 25:26Speaker 7: expect them to do the same thing. But man, wasn't
- 25:29Speaker 7: it the wild wild West last night? Or what? Fourteen
- 25:33Speaker 7: of the thirty one picks last night had trade involvement,
- 25:36Speaker 7: fourteen of the thirty one. I mean, it was wild
- 25:40Speaker 7: last night. Man, it was crazy.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Nothing was crazier than when Jamiir Gibbs went twelfth to Detroit.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I did not see that coming at all.
- 25:50Speaker 7: And they they they jumped around like everybody in the
- 25:53Speaker 7: league was after him. I mean that Detroit room after
- 25:57Speaker 7: they picked and picked them was like all it's ecstatic, celebratory,
- 26:01Speaker 7: and it's like, man, we you know we got I
- 26:04Speaker 7: guess you know, they targeted a guy that speed kills
- 26:07Speaker 7: in the National Football League. It kills in general in
- 26:10Speaker 7: any sport, but in the National Football League it is.
- 26:13Speaker 7: It's a massive weapon. And this kid's got that. There's
- 26:16Speaker 7: no doubt. I mean, they check it down. Seven yard
- 26:21Speaker 7: reception turns into seven yard touchdowns with a guy like that.
- 26:26Speaker 1: All right, Miles Murphy is a Bengal. We're excited to
- 26:30Speaker 1: meet him when he gets to town on Saturday. In
- 26:32Speaker 1: the meantime, do some homework and we'll do another version
- 26:36Speaker 1: of one of these conversations after runs two and three.
- 26:40Speaker 7: I like it, Dan, I like it a lot. And
- 26:43Speaker 7: off to a good start, you know. I mean, as
- 26:47Speaker 7: the old saying goes can never have enough good pass rushers,
- 26:51Speaker 7: can never.
- 26:51Speaker 6: Have enough good cover guys. And the Bengals got themselves
- 26:55Speaker 6: another pass rusher.
- 26:56Speaker 7: And honestly, the traits this guy has, it's.
- 27:01Speaker 6: It is crazy.
- 27:02Speaker 7: And Dan, he's only, like you said earlier, he's only
- 27:04Speaker 7: twenty one years old. I mean, he's twenty four to
- 27:07Speaker 7: twenty five years old. His body's I mean how big,
- 27:13Speaker 7: he's long, that he's not gonna shrink. He's long, he's strong,
- 27:17Speaker 7: gonna he's gonna he's gonna mature, he's gonna get stronger.
- 27:21Speaker 7: I mean, man, guy's limits for this young man, there's
- 27:24Speaker 7: no doubt.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Don't forget. I'll have a new edition of this podcast
