- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another little French adventure? Luna: Always, Lucas. What are we getting into today? Lucas: Today we're talking about the weather. You know, something we all talk about, but in French. Luna: Oh, nice. Like, 'Il fait beau'? Lucas: Exactly. That's our first phrase: Il fait beau. It means 'the weather is nice' or 'it's nice out.' Lucas: Il fait beau. Luna: Il fait beau. That's fun. So if it's raining, what do I say? Lucas: You say: Il pleut. It means 'it's raining.' Lucas: Il pleut. Luna: Il pleut. Okay, that one sounds like what it is. Rainy. Lucas: Right, and we often use 'faire' for weather expressions. Like, Il fait du soleil. That means 'it's sunny.' Lucas: Il fait du soleil. Luna: Il fait du soleil. So we have 'il fait' for nice and sunny, and 'il pleut' for rain. Lucas: You got it. Now, what if the sky is covered with clouds? You'd say: Il fait nuageux. That's 'it's cloudy.' Lucas: Il fait nuageux. Luna: Il fait nuageux. That's a bit of a mouthful, but I like it. Lucas: And if the weather is just bad, you say: Il fait mauvais. That means 'the weather is bad.' Lucas: Il fait mauvais. Luna: Il fait mauvais. So I've got five new phrases to describe the weather. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: Il fait beau. Luna: Il fait beau. Lucas: Il pleut. Luna: Il pleut. Lucas: Il fait du soleil. Luna: Il fait du soleil. Lucas: Il fait nuageux. Luna: Il fait nuageux. Lucas: Il fait mauvais. Luna: Il fait mauvais. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them into a little story. Imagine you and I are planning a picnic. You ask, 'What's the weather like?' Luna: Oh, I remember that question: Quel temps fait-il? Lucas: Nice, you're ahead of me. So, Quel temps fait-il? And I would answer: Il fait beau. Perfect for a picnic. Luna: But then the clouds roll in and you say: Il fait nuageux. Maybe we should stay home. Lucas: Hmm, but then the sun comes out and you say: Il fait du soleil. We go anyway. Luna: But then it starts raining: Il pleut. Oops. Lucas: And you're soaked, so you say: Il fait mauvais. Let's go home. Luna: That was a good little story. I feel like I can actually use these. Lucas: You absolutely can. And here's a little tip: in French, we often use 'il fait' for weather descriptions, just like we saw with beau, du soleil, nuageux, mauvais. Luna: So 'il fait' is like a little weather helper. Cool. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's swing back to our picnic. If someone asks you, Quel temps fait-il? you can answer with any of these. Luna: So I could say: Il fait beau. Or Il pleut. Or Il fait du soleil. Or Il fait nuageux. Or Il fait mauvais. Lucas: That's a lot of options. But let's not overwhelm you. Just pick the one that matches the sky outside. Luna: Right. And if I forget, I can just say: Il fait beau. Because that's always a nice thing to say. Lucas: True. And if someone asks you about the weather and you want to sound like a local, you can add a little 'oui' or 'non' to your answer. Like, 'Oui, il fait beau.' Luna: Oui, il fait beau. I like that. It's like you're confirming the good news. Lucas: Speaking of good news, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with French, and you're enjoying these little chats, you can help us keep the show ad-free by supporting us on buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. I'll say a phrase, and you tell me what it means. Lucas: Il fait beau. Luna: It's nice out. Lucas: Il pleut. Luna: It's raining. Lucas: Il fait du soleil. Luna: It's sunny. Lucas: Il fait nuageux. Luna: It's cloudy. Lucas: Il fait mauvais. Luna: It's bad weather. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Keep practicing these, and you'll be talking about the weather like a pro. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I'll check the sky tomorrow and practice my French at the same time. See you next time! Lucas: See you next time. Au revoir!
