Latest / The Monégasque Table / Glitter Drinks Too Faint? The Double-Serving Fix
Transcript
- Margaux: A dime. That's about the price gap between a glitter drink that whispers and one that actually glows. Dana: This one's personal. Last month I made sparkling pink lemonade for my daughter's birthday, stirred in my careful little pinch of gold, and what I got was... a rumor. A drink that had maybe been near some glitter once. Margaux: Welcome to The Monégasque Table. Today's a quick Ask the Table question, sent in from the faint-drink club: how do you make a glitter drink more vibrant? Dana: And I want a real fix, not a pep talk. Margaux: So here's the answer up front. Use more. The serving guidance printed right on the listing says it in plain words — you can achieve a richer color by doubling the serving. The standard pour is 0.1 grams per drink. A faint drink usually just needs the double. Dana: Hold on. "Use twice as much of our product" is the oldest trick in retail. That's the shampoo bottle telling me to lather, rinse, repeat. Of course the label wants me doubling. Margaux: Right instinct — so let's make the trick pay for itself or throw it out. A 15 gram jar runs about 15 dollars and pours about 150 drinks at the standard pinch. Double every single glass and you still get about 75 drinks — call it 20 cents of glitter each. The 10 gram flake jars pour about 100 standard, so doubled they land closer to 30 cents. That's the whole upgrade. The lemons cost more. Dana: Fine, doubling is cheap. But my pinch wasn't the problem that day. My drink was. Pink lemonade is cloudy. I could've stirred in the whole jar and made glitter soup nobody could see into. Margaux: (laughs) Glitter soup. And that's the round you win, because the cheapest fix in this episode is free. Reviewers across this category keep saying the same line — it works best with clear drinks. Sparkle is light bouncing off tiny flakes, so give it light. A clear or pale drink. A see-through glass. A candle behind the table instead of a bulb overhead. Same pinch, twice the show. Dana: So there's an order to this. Fix the drink and the light first. Then double. Margaux: That's the order. Doubling deepens color that's already visible. It can't cut through a drink that blocks light. Free fixes first, then spend your dime. Dana: Okay, now the honest part, because I went reading reviews. People in this category complain the color came out wrong. That can't all be user error. Margaux: It isn't, and the numbers say you're right — wrong-looking color shows up in over 17% of negative mentions in category reviews. So two honest things. One, the color in the glass is never just the glitter. It's glitter plus drink plus light, and a gold pinch in dark cranberry punch reads muddy no matter what the jar promised. Two, when people love this stuff, color is a big reason why — over 32% of the category's positive reviews call it out. Vivid is very reachable. It's a system, not a scoop. Dana: Who should skip the double, then? Margaux: Three skips. If the drink is dark or opaque — cola, red punch, hot chocolate — skip glitter in the glass entirely and put the sparkle on the dessert, where people will actually see it. If your single pinch already reads the way you want, keep your money. And if you're pouring for a crowd, double the toast round and go standard on refills. Nobody studies a third refill. Dana: So my recap: clear drink, real light, then double the pinch — and the whole upgrade is about a dime a glass. Margaux: That's the fix. And the payoff is that half second when the lights drop, the drink glows gold, and somebody at the table reaches for her phone. If you want to run it at home, the MONÉGASQUE Gold 15 gram jar is on Amazon, sitting at 4.6 stars — and even doubling every pour, one jar covers about 75 drinks. Dana: Next question from the inbox is the bigger one, and honestly it's the one that matters most: how can you tell if glitter is really edible? The jars all sparkle the same on a shelf. Margaux: The label knows, and next time we read it together. This show is made with AI-crafted hosts and human-checked facts. See you at the table.
