- Lucas: Luna, ready to learn some French classroom vocabulary? Luna: Ooh, yes! I've been wanting to talk about school stuff. Let's do it. Lucas: Great. So today we're learning five common classroom objects. First up: un livre. That means 'a book'. Luna: Un livre. A book. Okay, un livre. Lucas: Exactly. So if you want to say 'I have a book', you'd say J'ai un livre. Luna: J'ai un livre. I have a book. Lucas: Perfect. Next word: un stylo. That's 'a pen'. Luna: Un stylo. A pen. So J'ai un stylo would be 'I have a pen'. Lucas: You got it. Un stylo. Now, Luna, what do you write in? Luna: A notebook? Is that un cahier? Lucas: Exactly! Un cahier. A notebook. Luna: Un cahier. So J'ai un cahier. I have a notebook. Lucas: Yes. And you put your cahier on a desk, which is un bureau. Luna: Un bureau. A desk. So Le cahier est sur le bureau means 'The notebook is on the desk'. Lucas: That's exactly right. And you sit on une chaise, a chair. Luna: Une chaise. So La chaise est sous le bureau? No, that would be 'the chair is under the desk'. Lucas: you're thinking! But usually the chair is in front of the desk. So we'd say La chaise est devant le bureau. Luna: La chaise est devant le bureau. The chair is in front of the desk. Okay, got it. Lucas: Let's practice all five. Repeat after me: un livre. Luna: Un livre. Lucas: Un stylo. Luna: Un stylo. Lucas: Un cahier. Luna: Un cahier. Lucas: Un bureau. Luna: Un bureau. Lucas: Une chaise. Luna: Une chaise. Lucas: Now let's put them in a sentence. Imagine you're describing your classroom: Sur le bureau, il y a un livre, un stylo, et un cahier. Et une chaise.
