- 0:00Mega Bag Alert, Mega Bag Alert, Mega Bag Alert, Mega Bag Alert folks, that's right.
- 0:07We got our first Mega Bag Alert of this offseason.
- 0:11We got a multitude of people that got paid.
- 0:14Originally, it was supposed to be a quad bag alert, but then it just grew even more.
- 0:20So let's just go down the list of the people that got paid.

- 0:25Max Crosby gets paid again.
- 0:27Zach Bond stays in Philly.
- 0:29Theo Jackson stays in Minnesota.

- 0:42And the divisional rodeo goes to the east.
- 0:48We are going to a very historic division.
- 0:51That is the division that has the bearer, the Vikings, the Packers, and the Lions.
- 0:56All of this and more on the 72nd episode of the Football Junkies podcast.
- 1:02I am your host with the most.
- 1:04I'm your chief bag rodamus.
- 1:07Anything and everything related to the bag and more.
- 1:10I am your chief head of the table.
- 1:13Anything and everything related to the draft, combine, you name it, we're covering it.
- 1:18But guess what?
- 1:19I'm all these things and more.
- 1:21But the most important thing is I am your GM who currently is not on a team right now,
- 1:26but don't you worry about it.
- 1:28Because guess what?
- 1:29We got some interviews lined up because you know why?
- 1:31Some people want to know about my knowledge.
- 1:33So guess what?
- 1:34We're going to give them to them.
- 1:35So guess what?
- 1:36On three, you already know how these things go.
- 1:38Actually, you know what?
- 1:39I know I'm forgetting something because guess what?
- 1:41The most important title that you must remember is I am your host, Kale.
- 1:45Now we're back on track.
- 1:46On three.
- 1:47One, two, three.
- 1:48Let's lock in.
- 1:49All right, folks, let's just get into the meat and potatoes of everything that is going
- 2:18on in the league right now.
- 2:20And man, oh man, do we have a lot going on in the league?
- 2:23Things are starting to cook.
- 2:25Okay.
- 2:26And we're not talking about with just no olive oil or just with a little bit of butter.
- 2:30No, we're talking about hot grease.
- 2:32Okay.
- 2:33Hot fish grease.
- 2:34Okay.
- 2:35So let's just get into these baguettes before we get into the divisional rodeo.
- 2:39Okay.
- 2:40So first one, say, come on, bark.
- 2:42We okay.
- 2:43The quad God himself gets a surprise extension.
- 2:46Okay.
- 2:47So we got here is 41.2 million, 36 million guaranteed at signing that is 20.6 million
- 2:54a year.
- 2:55He is the first running back.
- 2:56If I'm not mistaken fact check me out to get 20 million a year.
- 3:01He reset to the market.
- 3:04Do we really even need to go over the stats?
- 3:06You know what?
- 3:07I think we just do just cause so 345 attempts for 2005 rushing yards, 5.8 rushing yards per
- 3:1510, 13 touchdowns and 46 rushes of 10 plus yards or more.
- 3:20Folks, this will probably go down in history as one of the greatest off seasons for running
- 3:25back.
- 3:26I will argue with any person that says otherwise because this guy did it all in one off season.
- 3:32He could have easily broken Eric Dickerson's record, but he decided not to out of respect
- 3:38for him and, you know, he wanted to preserve himself.
- 3:41You become a Super Bowl champion and you get another extension, only one season.
- 3:49Come on, man.
- 3:50And then not to mention, you know, you leave a toxic situation with, you know, Joe Shane
- 3:55and the giants and you finally get a taste of winning and, you know, the Eagles want
- 4:00to reward you for all the hard work that you put in.
- 4:03And so this is what happens.
- 4:06Best believe, Saquon Barkley is not going anywhere.
- 4:09Saquon Barkley is probably going to end his career as an Eagle.
- 4:13Okay.
- 4:14If he continues with this, we're going to have to have a different conversation about
- 4:18Saquon Barkley.
- 4:19Now, let's get into Max Crosby.
- 4:21This was a little bit of a shocker.
- 4:23I'm not going to lie to you.
- 4:24So let's get into it.
- 4:25Three years, 106.5 million, 91.5 million guaranteed.
- 4:32That's 35.5 million a year.
- 4:34He reset at the pass rusher market.
- 4:35When we look at his stats, 45 tackles, seven and a half sacks and 53 quarterback pressures.
- 4:42This is what I will say about this.
- 4:43Honestly speaking, for one, I did not expect this.
- 4:47Two, I would have thought he would have wanted to trade.
- 4:50Here you have this person that's talking about how he's not happy with winning and,
- 4:55you know, he's disgruntled about where the direction of the team is going and all these
- 5:00things and rightfully so.
- 5:02And so you have all these reports coming out of how, you know, he's disgruntled and now
- 5:06he's angry and frustrated and then you signed this deal.
- 5:09So then that lets me know that it was fake.
- 5:12You're not going to stay in a crappy situation and then just continue to reset the market.
- 5:17I'm sorry.
- 5:18At some point, I want to be able to experience the confetti coming down.
- 5:21I want to be able to experience holding up the Lombardi trophy.
- 5:24I want to experience all the things that lead up to the Super Bowl.
- 5:29I don't want to be just somebody that just ends the regular season when everybody else
- 5:33does and then, you know, you're one, two, three, cancun in and cancun.
- 5:37I don't want that.
- 5:38I want to be able to experience more.
- 5:40I'm one of the best pass structures in the league.
- 5:43And so to me, this moves signals that you value the money more than winning a championship
- 5:49and that's perfectly fine.
- 5:50If you do, I'm not going to, you know, be mad at you for it, but it makes it seem like
- 5:55you're sort of a hypocrite because here you are someone who literally, there were teams
- 6:01waiting to see what was going to happen this off season.
- 6:04If you was going to declare for a trade or not, and instead of you doing that and possibly
- 6:10going into a better situation, you decided just to, you know, take the money.
- 6:13You know, this team is far away from being, you know, a really competitive team.
- 6:18So if that's what you want to do, hey, more power to you, brother.
- 6:22Now when we look at Zach bond, okay, three years, 51 million, 34 million guaranteed at
- 6:27a 17 million a year.
- 6:29He is one of the highest paid linebackers in the league right now.
- 6:32And when we look at his stats, 150 tackles, three and a half sacks, 14 quarterback pressures.
- 6:39This is the perfect example of what happens when you take a risk on yourself.
- 6:45He doubled down on himself.
- 6:46He signed a one year deal with the Eagles.
- 6:50Didn't know how they were going to use them.
- 6:52And then Van Gio say, you know what, we're going to put you in this role.
- 6:55We're going to have you play off ball linebacker and it worked.
- 6:59And he became a Super Bowl champion in that same season.
- 7:02And now he got rewarded for it.
- 7:04How we let it be known.
- 7:05I forgot where it was, but I know it was like at a, at a, like a event or something with
- 7:10Jason K. Ford's podcast.
- 7:12How we let it be known that they were going to lock up Zach bond.
- 7:16So this isn't a surprise, honestly.
- 7:18And like I said, when we were doing the divisional rodeo and we started with, with the Eagles,
- 7:23I said, Zach bond is going to be worth more than what spot racks of market value had for
- 7:28him.
- 7:29Just because of how much of a role he played on this team and how much of a role he played
- 7:33in the Super Bowl alone, like he did a lot.
- 7:37So all in all, the Eagles make sure that they prioritize taking care of their players while
- 7:42at the same time creating a lot of cash space, while at the same time potentially positioning
- 7:46themselves to go after someone like a mouse Gary.
- 7:49That's what all of this boils down to.
- 7:51Are they going to pull the trigger and get someone like a mouse Gary?
- 7:55How he has, has already let us know that listen, this team is going to be different than what
- 8:00it was last year.
- 8:01There's going to be a lot of changes.
- 8:03So I need you to follow me and he's starting already.
- 8:07Now when we look at Theo Jackson safety for the Minnesota Vikings, he inks a two year,
- 8:12$12.6 million deal, $6 million a year, which it's a fairly, you know, team friendly deal.
- 8:18It's nothing, you know, super crazy or whatnot.
- 8:21And even when we look at his stats, 11 tackles for one pick and three past deflection.
- 8:26This isn't a deal where like I've said before, with other smaller deals, it's earth shadowing
- 8:31or it's one of those deals that's, you know, that's going to make you scratch your head
- 8:35like they're just taking care of a person who plays a very pivotal role on their side
- 8:39of the ball.
- 8:40That's all what it is.
- 8:41You know, you're too out.
- 8:42Well, one year, 10 million fully guaranteed to be specific.
- 8:46Okay.
- 8:47And we look at his receptions.
- 8:48Well, not his receptions, but his stats, 42 receptions for 562 receiving yards, 13.4 receiving
- 8:55yards per reception.
- 8:56This is somebody who contributes a lot when they give him the ball.
- 9:01This isn't somebody that's going to wow you with, you know, 10 touchdowns and three touchdown
- 9:06game or something like that.
- 9:07This is somebody that plays a very pivotal role on this offense.
- 9:12And with the potential departure of Cooper cup, you want to make sure that you bring
- 9:16back at least one or two receivers that are familiar with the system and familiar with
- 9:21Matthew Stafford.
- 9:22So most likely this receiver core is probably going to be a Puka to to out well, and then
- 9:27they'll probably draft maybe one or two receivers.
- 9:30Okay.
- 9:31Now let's get into the juicy stuff.
- 9:33Okay.
- 9:34Let's get into the, the fire.
- 9:35Okay.
- 9:36So, Anthony Medcalf has requested a trade folks.
- 9:39And this was shortly after Tyler Lockett was being informed that he was going to get cut.
- 9:45Yeah.
- 9:46A lot of, a lot of toxicity is happening in Seattle right now.
- 9:50So when we look at it, this is the crazy thing with this entire situation.
- 9:55Okay.
- 9:56So this year, he only has one year left on his deal, but it's not guaranteed.
- 10:02So his market value is three years, 78.2 million, which is 26.1 million a year.
- 10:09When we look at his stats this year alone, this, well, this past season specifically
- 10:1466 receptions for 992 receiving yards, five touchdowns and 15 receiving yards per reception,
- 10:22which is a little bit of a down year compared to, you know, previous years, but all in all,
- 10:26DK Medcalf is a top 10 receiver.
- 10:29I don't understand why people are so hesitant about making a move or someone like a DK Medcalf.
- 10:35DK Medcalf is a game changer.
- 10:38Okay.
- 10:39This is somebody that can change the trajectory of a game with just one play.
- 10:45He's done it multiple times.
- 10:47You got a big body dude that can win those 50, 50 balls.
- 10:52There's not a lot of people that can do that on a consistent basis.
- 10:55DK Medcalf has been able to do that.
- 10:57And so when we look at this, according to Diana Rossini, the report came out this morning
- 11:04basically detailing that the Seahawks won a first and a third round pick for DK Medcalf
- 11:09and rightfully so because he's a top 10 receiver, like I just said, but he is somebody that
- 11:15he's a number one receiver on a lot of teams.
- 11:18He's not a two.
- 11:19He's a one not to mention they're sort of positioning themselves to go through someone
- 11:25of a soft rebuild because you still have to figure out what you're going to do with Geno
- 11:29Smith.
- 11:30You still have to figure out what you're going to do with other players on this team.
- 11:33So there's going to be a lot of turnover between this year and maybe the next two years.
- 11:38So they want to be able to position themselves for the next two years and rightfully so.
- 11:44DK Medcalf has already let it be known that he wants 30 plus million a year, which again,
- 11:50rightfully so.
- 11:52Because when he signed the deal that he's on now, it was only a three year deal.
- 11:56It was actually a really cheap deal to be honest, but now that the receiver market has
- 12:02you know, grew so quickly so fast that you're going to have to you know, catch up.
- 12:09So if I was a team, I probably will want to trade for DK Medcalf now and I would pay
- 12:14him now before Jamar Chase because if you don't, you run the risk of someone like a
- 12:20DK Medcalf wanting to get close to what Jamar Chase is making.
- 12:25Now when we look at teams that could possibly you know, be in the running for someone like
- 12:29a DK Medcalf, I would say maybe the Chargers.
- 12:33I would say maybe the Texans.
- 12:35I would say maybe even the bills.
- 12:37I would even say the Steelers.
- 12:40I think those teams would love to have someone like a DK Medcalf on their team.
- 12:45Now the question is this, who is going to be the team that is going to meet their demands?
- 12:50Now me personally, I think it's going to be the Chargers because for one, a lot of the
- 12:55needs that the Chargers have, they can be addressed in day two and day three.
- 13:00Now when it comes to receiver with the receiver class being not as strong as it is, I think
- 13:05if you get someone like a DK Medcalf that automatically erases a lot of the needs that
- 13:10they have.
- 13:12So you give them that first round pick, you pair him with Labrconky and Quentin Johnston
- 13:16whatnot.
- 13:18It's great.
- 13:19Not to mention you can give them a pretty good deal because why?
- 13:22You have, I mean, a decent enough amount of catchphrase too.
- 13:26Texans, it may be a little bit shaky for them because they need to address offensive line
- 13:30and they need to address it with their first pick.
- 13:32Okay.
- 13:33And this is sort of like a teaser into the AFC South and whatnot, but they have to be
- 13:39able to address the offensive line.
- 13:40CJ Straub was getting beat up this past season.
- 13:43So I don't think they can try to make that type of move.
- 13:48Now the Steelers, they could try, but do I think they're going to do it?
- 13:53No, only because they value their draft picks and drafting so much that I don't think they
- 14:00will pull the trigger on something like a DK Medcalf.
- 14:03Just saying.
- 14:04Now, when we look at the Tyler Lockett situation, okay, he got cut.
- 14:08Okay.
- 14:09And this is something that I sort of predicted when we went over that division because for
- 14:14one, you have three people that have very large cap hits and very large base salaries.
- 14:20And you're in a situation where you're trying to position yourself for free agency and potentially
- 14:25signing your rookies.
- 14:26So you're going to have to make some major moves.
- 14:29And so the most important thing that they had to do was he read it out of lock and I
- 14:33don't blame them.
- 14:34Okay.
- 14:35Get there.
- 14:36The financials of this situation, the Seahawks take on 13.8 million in debt cap while freeing
- 14:4217 million.
- 14:44So all in all, they put themselves in a really good spot.
- 14:47Okay.
- 14:48And when we look at his stats this past season, really wasn't the best 49 receptions for 600
- 14:53receiving yards, two touchdowns, 12.2 receiving yards per reception.
- 14:57He is still a very productive receiver, but I think it's come to a point where the Seahawks
- 15:06realized that listen, it's time for us to go into a different direction.
- 15:09It's time for us to possibly cut bait, cut weight.
- 15:13Excuse me, of some of these players that have these big contracts because not to mention,
- 15:18you're going to have to pay Tyreek Woolin fairly soon.
- 15:22And there's other players on this team that you're going to have to take care of as well.
- 15:26So the only way that you can curve all of that is you have to cut some of this dead
- 15:31weight.
- 15:32You have to trim the fat as, as I say, when it comes to these large contracts.
- 15:36Now granted, I would have liked for title lock it to be a Seahawk for life, but clearly
- 15:42that wasn't in the books.
- 15:44And so when we look at this, do I think he's going to probably play?
- 15:49I don't think so.
- 15:50I think he has nothing else to play for your Super Bowl champion.
- 15:54You definitely played a very pivotal role in the Seahawks in recent years.
- 15:58Like you have nothing else to prove and that's perfectly fine.
- 16:01But if he wants to continue to play, there will be a market for him because again, the
- 16:05receiver draft class this year for day one is not that strong.
- 16:11And I think someone like a title lock it will garner interest somewhere just because of
- 16:16his veteran leadership and what he brings to the table.
- 16:20Now am I saying he can be a one on any other team?
- 16:23No, but what I am saying is this, he can be a solid contributor on a lot of teams.
- 16:28A lot of teams will love to have someone like a title lock it just saying when we go to
- 16:33the Joey Bosa situation, this was something that I expected as well.
- 16:37And the reason why I say that is because for one, you have somebody that has a large contract
- 16:41to you have somebody that really hasn't been that impactful like he was in those first
- 16:47what three years of his career, three or four years of his career, excuse me, like it was
- 16:53needed.
- 16:54Like when we look at this really analyze this right.
- 16:58Khalil Mack, old Khalil Mack show more at his age than what Joey Bosa has.
- 17:05Khalil Mack has been able to stay healthy than what Joey Bosa has.
- 17:10When we look at Joey Bosa stats, I'm just going to read it off to you just for sacks.
- 17:14Okay.
- 17:15In 2019 11 and a half 2020 seven and a half 2021 10 and a half 2022 two and a half 2023
- 17:23six and a half this past season five and a half.
- 17:28It's just continue to go down and down and down and down and he hasn't been able to stay
- 17:34healthy.
- 17:35Like I don't like to use the, you know, healthy thing I really don't because I feel like it's
- 17:40an easy way out, but he has not been able to stay healthy.
- 17:44And I'm sorry.
- 17:46The best ability is availability.
- 17:49And if you are not available and you're making a boohoo amount of money, there's no point
- 17:55in me keeping you on the team.
- 17:57I'm sorry.
- 17:58I'm just not going to do that.
- 17:59Now will Joey Bosa have a market?
- 18:02Yes, for sure.
- 18:03There are a lot of teams that would love to have someone like a Joey Bosa on their team.
- 18:08Now do I think he'll probably go and play with his brother?
- 18:10Yeah, probably wouldn't be surprised.
- 18:12Now do I think he could probably go somewhere else?
- 18:15There's possibility.
- 18:17All options are on the table for someone like a Joey Bosa.
- 18:20When we look at the financials for the chargers, this frees up 25.3 million in cash base, which
- 18:27is very much needed because they're in the position right now where they could be a legitimate
- 18:32playoff caliber team.
- 18:35So you have to cut dead weight, which you did.
- 18:38You got rid of Joey Bosa.
- 18:39Now you need to make some moves, sure up the receiver room, fix up the running back room
- 18:45as well, make a few adjustments for the defense and then boom, you're going to be better this
- 18:50year than what you was last year.
- 18:52Now when we look at Christian Kirk, this one was a little bit confusing because the GM
- 18:57originally said that he liked Christian Kirk and whatnot.
- 19:00But then all of a sudden you go to, oh yeah, we're just going to cut you.
- 19:03You should have just traded him.
- 19:05If you would have traded him, you would have gotten some interest.
- 19:09No one's not going to give you a first round pick for Christian Kirk, but somebody would
- 19:12have gave you at least maybe a fourth or fifth, maybe even a sixth round pick.
- 19:16You could use that pick to get somebody that plays a very pivotal role in your team or you
- 19:22could use it to move up in the draft or you could use it to trade for somebody.
- 19:27You could have used it in different ways, but you didn't.
- 19:30So now the Jaguars take on 13.5 million in dead cap while creating 10.5 million in cap
- 19:36shakes.
- 19:37Now we all know his stats last season wasn't really the best because he broke his collar
- 19:41bone.
- 19:42We all know that.
- 19:43But before that season, he had three touchdowns and then 2022 he had eight touchdowns and
- 19:48so on and so forth.
- 19:50Me personally, the first team that I think of when it comes to Christian Kirk is the
- 19:54commanders because when he was under Cliff Kingsbury, that was when he was really contributing.
- 20:02I don't see him going to the Steelers.
- 20:05Just saying.
- 20:06I don't see him going to, I don't know, the bills or any of these other teams.
- 20:11Christian Kirk will have a market, but he won't have a solid market like what people
- 20:16are saying he will.
- 20:18Like I think somebody will be willing to take more of a risk on, I don't know, a Mecca,
- 20:25a Bucca or somebody in the second or third round before they give a chance to Christian
- 20:30Kirk.
- 20:31Just saying, don't hurt me.
- 20:33Okay.
- 20:34Now when we look at Gardner, Menchu, he gets cut as well.
- 20:38Originally I thought they were going to do a restructure.
- 20:40Okay.
- 20:41But for them to cut him, not surprised honestly because his contract was a little bit way to
- 20:48expensive me personally.
- 20:50Like you're a backup quarterback and you're making that much money.
- 20:53No cut.
- 20:55Now when we look at the financials for this, okay, the Raiders take on 10.8 million in
- 20:59Deccat while Gardner Menchu is guaranteed 3.1 million of his 2025 salary.
- 21:06Now when we look at his stats this past season, sure you threw for 2000 passing yards, you
- 21:13had nine touchdowns, but you had 10 picks.
- 21:16You averaged 6.6 yards per attempt.
- 21:19I mean, it was okay, but again, the Raiders are trying to clean house.
- 21:25They're trying to position themselves to win.
- 21:28And so the best way to do it is to cut bait, get rid of Gardner Menchu.
- 21:32They'll probably draft a quarterback or pay for a quarterback.
- 21:35Okay.
- 21:36Then they'll bring in, you know, a lower tier backup quarterback or they'll just bring back
- 21:39Gardner Menchu.
- 21:40Okay.
- 21:41At a lower price and then just go one from there.
- 21:44Because again, taking way too much money, he had a base salary that was too high and
- 21:48a cap it that was too high.
- 21:50No need to do that.
- 21:51They're trying to position themselves to take a few big swings to really catapult themselves
- 21:56in a different stratosphere.
- 21:59Okay.
- 22:00Who?
- 22:01Well, too well, too well, too well, too well.
- 22:02Joe Thune, okay.
- 22:04Joe Thune gets traded.
- 22:06He goes to the Bears.
- 22:08All right.
- 22:09So the Chiefs receive a 2025 fourth round pick and the Bears of course received Joe Thune.
- 22:14With this, and this is sort of going into the divisional rodeo a little bit, he's on
- 22:19the last year of his deal.
- 22:21Okay.
- 22:22His base salary, this, this upcoming season is 15.5 million and his cap hit is only 16 million.
- 22:29All in all, he is still a very productive guard.
- 22:33Now for all the people that say, well, the Chiefs should have been trying to find a way
- 22:37to keep them.
- 22:38No, you can't because they're about to reset the market for Trace Smith.
- 22:41May I remind you folks that the Chiefs cap situation is a lot more complex than what
- 22:47you think because you have three people that are taking up over 50% of their cap space.
- 22:56So instead of them doing what the Eagles do, which is they sort of spread out the money
- 23:00a little bit.
- 23:01No, they put it into Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey and Chris Jones.
- 23:07Everybody else.
- 23:08You're either on the boat or you're not.
- 23:11And so Joe Thune wasn't on the boat.
- 23:14But for the Bears, this is a major upgrade because you have someone that is a seasoned
- 23:19veteran, a Super Bowl champion, someone who has pedigree with his game and was still playing
- 23:25at a fairly pretty good level.
- 23:27I'm not saying he was the elite version of himself.
- 23:30No, but he was still, he was still a very good productive guard and not to mention the
- 23:37Bears have been trying to rebuild their offensive line this offseason because they have to prioritize
- 23:43protecting Kayla Williams.
- 23:45Kayla Williams, this past season was taking way too many hits.
- 23:49And so if you want to be able to preserve your quarterback, you have to make sure that
- 23:55you that you build a good offensive line around that is the only way that you can prolong
- 23:59his career.
- 24:00Otherwise, he'll be like Andrew Luck.
- 24:02No disrespect to him.
- 24:03Now let's get into the divisional rodeo folks.
- 24:07And so you already know how these things go.
- 24:10Okay, we're going to go through an entire division.
- 24:13We're going to talk about their salary free agents, draft picks, positions of need, candidates
- 24:17for restructure, extension, trades and cuts.
- 24:20Okay, so let's start with the NFC North of Bears, Packard Vikings and Lions.
- 24:27So we're going to start with the Bears 45.3 million in salary cap, the rollover cap
- 24:32of 5 million.
- 24:33Not too bad.
- 24:34Okay, free agents, Kenan Allen, DeMarcus Walker, Gerald Everett, Tevin Jenkins, Matt Pryor,
- 24:40Daryl Taylor, just to name a few.
- 24:42Their draft picks, they got their first two second round picks, a third, they don't have
- 24:48a fourth, they do have a fifth, they have a sixth, and they have two seventh round picks,
- 24:53position some need defensive line running back edge receiver interior offensive line.
- 24:58This one is going to be fairly quickly and fairly simple only because for one, this team
- 25:03is still fairly young.
- 25:05A lot of the main players on this team are still under contract and the people that aren't
- 25:10under contract are either older players or players that don't really contribute a whole
- 25:16lot to this team.
- 25:18So there's going to be a lot of turnover with the lower half of the roster, as I expect.
- 25:23Now when we look at positions of need, okay, you can go about this a few different ways.
- 25:29You can address defensive line slash edge in the first round, or you can address wide
- 25:35receiver and running back in the first round.
- 25:38Either way you look at it, I think you have to be able to like really bring in somebody
- 25:45that can be a contributor with the run game.
- 25:48Granted, the Andre Swift is good, but I think you're not going to make the type of moves
- 25:54that the Bears have made, especially to the offensive line.
- 25:57If you're not eyeing someone like an Ashton Gentie, or at least a Caleb Johnson or Devon
- 26:03Neal or Taj Brooks or RJ Harvey or O'Marion Hampson or who else, who else, I can't even
- 26:10think of anybody else, but the list goes on and on.
- 26:13Now if they get Ashton Gentie and you pair him with the Andre Swift, and then you pair
- 26:18him with DJ Moore and Cole Comet and then Roma Dunze and Caleb Williams, that's a really
- 26:25good offense.
- 26:26That's a really good run game.
- 26:28Okay.
- 26:29Now do I think they're going to do that?
- 26:31There's a possibility.
- 26:32The Bears are a team that you really can pinpoint and say, oh, they're going to do this or oh,
- 26:37they're going to do that.
- 26:38No.
- 26:39With them having been Johnson, I feel like they are definitely going to prioritize the
- 26:44offense high.
- 26:46Because again, with the defensive line class being as big as it is, they can bring in a
- 26:53quality defensive lineman in the second and third day of the draft and it won't really
- 26:59hurt them.
- 27:01You could go and get someone like Adarius Alexander or a Jordan Phillips or what's his
- 27:07name?
- 27:08You could be a non-walker for instance.
- 27:10You could go, you could get one of the edge guys if you wanted to.
- 27:14Because you already have Montez Svett.
- 27:16You just have to find him a partner.
- 27:18If you find him a partner and then you bolster up the interior defensive line, the defense
- 27:23is really good because you already have Jaylen Johnson.
- 27:25You still have Tremaine Edmonds.
- 27:27You have pieces.
- 27:29The Bears are in a really good place right now.
- 27:31Then with you bringing an offense of mine that has been Johnson, I think it takes things
- 27:36even further because I think what was missing last season was a good productive offense.
- 27:44The defense was doing his thing at first.
- 27:47Then it fell off and then it was trying to pick itself back up and it fell off again.
- 27:51Then by then everybody was just mentally checked out.
- 27:55Matt Eberfluss was basically a phone call away from losing his job.
- 28:00A lot of the coaches were basically done.
- 28:03A lot of the players were mentally checked out.
- 28:05It was just a bad situation.
- 28:06But bringing in someone like a Ben Johnson, an offense of mine, it's somebody that we
- 28:10all know and saw what he did with the Lions.
- 28:14If he does just half of that with the Bears, I think we're having a different conversation
- 28:20about Caleb Williams and the Bears moving forward.
- 28:24Now when we look at candidates, well actually no, I'm awake.
- 28:27I'm awake because I want to go a little bit more in depth with the positions I need.
- 28:31So when we look at receiver, you can go about this a few different ways.
- 28:36You can get Jaden Higgins.
- 28:38You can get Jack Best.
- 28:39You can get Ty Filton or any of those different types of receivers.
- 28:47Because again, I will continue to say this, the day two and day three slots for receiver
- 28:52have a lot of upside than the day one slots.
- 28:56The only reason why I say that is because each and every one of them have their own set
- 29:02of skills.
- 29:03Okay.
- 29:04Ty Filton, Speedster, Jaden Higgins, big body receiver, good when it comes to the blocking.
- 29:13Same thing with, I forgot what was his name, but he goes to Stanford.
- 29:18I forgot.
- 29:19It's no disrespect to your dog, but you have him as well.
- 29:24If you want a more faster slot guy, you have Xavier Restrepo from Miami.
- 29:29You have options.
- 29:32Do you want to spend your first pick on a receiver?
- 29:35Probably not.
- 29:36Are you going to spend on TMac?
- 29:40Maybe.
- 29:41Do you want to spend on Luther Burden?
- 29:42More of a Yacht guy.
- 29:43Do you want to spend on a Mecca Bucca?
- 29:45Do you want to spend it on Matthew Golden?
- 29:47Now Matthew Golden, I think that could be an interesting investment, but you've already
- 29:52made an investment at receiver with DJ Moore and Roma Dunzi.
- 29:57You could go about this so many different ways.
- 29:59It's ridiculous.
- 30:00Okay.
- 30:01Now when we look at interior offensive line, I think the number one person that they should
- 30:06really go after is the center from Atlanta because he's supposed to be a free agent.
- 30:11If you get him on that offensive line, you have him and then the guard that they got
- 30:18from the Rams and then Joe Thuny and then Darnell Wright.
- 30:24This might be really good offensive line.
- 30:25I'm just saying, I'm just saying the Bears have let it be known that we are prioritizing,
- 30:31protecting Caleb Williams while at the same time trying to open up the offense and making
- 30:37the offense so diverse in so many different ways that it's going to confuse defenses,
- 30:43which I don't blame them personally.
- 30:46Now when we look at candidates for restructure extensions, trades and cuts, the only person
- 30:51I listed was Joe Thuny.
- 30:52There's nobody else that I could think of that is up for an extension, a trade or a
- 30:57cut because everybody is fairly under contract.
- 31:00DJ Moore is under contract.
- 31:02Dylan Johnson is under contract.
- 31:03Remain Edmunds is still under contract.
- 31:06All their top high paying players are still under contract and are still contributing.
- 31:11Now if they fall off a little bit or if they become disgruntled with the situation, then
- 31:15we have a whole different conversation.
- 31:18But for the time being, I don't see that happening.
- 31:21And when we look at Joe Thuny's market value according to Spotrack, two years 40.6 million,
- 31:26which is only 20.3 million a year, which I think is pretty decent.
- 31:31He's a two time Super Bowl champion, still one of the best guards that you play now.
- 31:39I think that's not bad of a bargain.
- 31:40Now me personally, I would try to bring that down just a little bit.
- 31:45And we can maybe make the 20.3 just a little bit more on the incentives.
- 31:50Maybe we can work that thing out.
- 31:52But for the time being, I think this is probably the best situation that you can do with Joe
- 31:57Thuny.
- 31:58It's a two year deal.
- 31:59It's not a traditional four because he is getting up in age and you don't want to tie
- 32:03him with this long contract and then a lot of dead capping whatnot.
- 32:07So let's see what happens with that situation.
- 32:10Now on to the Packers.
- 32:12So with their situation, man, is it a deep dive?
- 32:17Okay, so let's just get into it.
- 32:18So salary 46.6 million with a roll over cap of 15.1 million.
- 32:24Really good.
- 32:25Free agents, Eric Stoltz, AJ Dillon, Corey Ballantyne, Josh Myers, Eric Wilson, Andre
- 32:31Dillard, Tyler Davis, Robert Rochelle, and Tedaro Slaton, just to name a few.
- 32:38Okay.
- 32:39So they're first, they're second, they're third, they're fourth, they're fifth, they're
- 32:43sixth and two seventh round picks.
- 32:46Cool.
- 32:47Positions of need, corner, receiver, interior, offensive line, and edge.
- 32:51Okay.
- 32:52So when we look at this, yes, corner, very much a top priority, especially with Jair Alexander
- 32:59possibly getting traded, definitely has to be a top priority.
- 33:02Now is this a good, you know, outside cornerback class?
- 33:08When you compare it to the last two years, not really.
- 33:11Okay.
- 33:12Sure, you have your Jaday Barons and your Ezra Thomases and Chavon Rebels and Benjamin
- 33:16Morrison and Will Johnson's of the world, but the problem is the only person, well, the
- 33:22only two people actually that you can say, Hey, those are true first round picks is who?
- 33:29Jaday Baron and Ezra Thomas.
- 33:32Everybody else is a little bit of a, you know, iffy situation because why they have injury
- 33:38red flags, especially Benjamin Morrison, he's coming off of a hip surgery.
- 33:43So there's a lot of questions saying, Hey, can you, how flexible are your hips and, you
- 33:49know, will that be a problem moving forward?
- 33:52Like all those things, same thing with Chavon Rebels, he's coming off of ACL surgery.
- 33:57Will Johnson, he's coming off of injuries as well.
- 33:59So there's a lot of question marks there.
- 34:02Now most likely you can go about this a few different ways.
- 34:05You can go, you can get somebody in free agency and then draft one, or you can just draft
- 34:11all of your corners.
- 34:12But I feel like the slot corner room is a little bit better because you have Jacob Parrish,
- 34:18you have Quincy Riley, you have Maxwell Hereston in company.
- 34:22So I say all that to say this, Jaya Alexander, you have to prepare like, like he's not going
- 34:29to be on the team.
- 34:30Okay.
- 34:31So you really need to make sure that you address corner because corner for the last few years
- 34:36really haven't been the best.
- 34:38Now granted, Eric Stokes, and do you really want to keep them me personally?
- 34:43No, you could probably bring in somebody that's a little bit more, actually, not well, I don't
- 34:51know.
- 34:52I really don't know.
- 34:53Cause my only problem with this is you don't want to have a complete makeover of the corner
- 34:59back room, you want to at least bring somebody back.
- 35:02So if you bring someone like Eric Stokes, that could be good and not to mention he can't
- 35:06demand a whole bunch of money anyway.
- 35:08So you could do that.
- 35:11What else?
- 35:12What else?
- 35:13What else?
- 35:14Corner, see the problem with corner is there's not like, there's not like a lot of options
- 35:18like it has been for the last two years.
- 35:20Like the last two years we've had Nate Wiggins, Christian Gonzalez, Quinneal Mitchell, Cooper
- 35:24Dejean, Julius Branson in company.
- 35:29This year, not so much.
- 35:30Now there are some, some corners that not, that's not getting talked about as much that
- 35:36should be getting talked about a whole lot.
- 35:37Darian Porter from Iowa dog.
- 35:41Absolute dog.
- 35:42Almost six, four, six, four.
- 35:46That man is an avatar.
- 35:48That man is one of one.
- 35:51Okay.
- 35:52You could go and you could probably double up that corner if you really wanted to.
- 35:56Now receiver is the same thing with Romeo dogs, probably getting traded.
- 36:02You're probably going to want to bring in somebody.
- 36:04So you have a few different options.
- 36:05You can get a speech or like a tie felt it, or you can get someone like a Matthew Golden,
- 36:10or you can get someone like, you can get the receiver from, from Stanford, or you can get
- 36:14Jaden Higgins, or you can get Jack Bess, or you can get, who is that receiver?
- 36:19I was just looking at, I was just looking at his footage.
- 36:21I was just looking at his footage this morning.
- 36:23I forgot who it was, but it'll probably come, you know, probably at the end of the episode.
- 36:27But you have a lot of options day two and day three.
- 36:31Okay.
- 36:32Interior, offensive line, you can go about a few different ways.
- 36:36You can go and draft someone like a Gray's apple or Tyler Booker, or you can pay for
- 36:40one.
- 36:41Now see with interior, offensive line, the guard market is starting to rise.
- 36:46So do you want to invest into a young guard that has a lot of upside with their game?
- 36:51Or do you want to go and get someone like a veteran who's already established, who may
- 36:56not ask for a whole lot of money?
- 36:59Because you could get someone like a Kevin Zeigler, you can get someone like a James
- 37:02Daniels, you have options there with interior, offensive line.
- 37:06Okay.
- 37:07Now edge, you can, you can draft the edge.
- 37:11Like I forgot who it was, but there's an edge from Alabama that, that I have my eye on.
- 37:17There's an edge from Boston colors that I have my eye on.
- 37:20I cannot remember their names right now, but you have options that edge in this draft that
- 37:26are legitimate options.
- 37:29So you can take that route as well.
- 37:31The Packers are in a situation right now where all fensively they're in a really good spot.
- 37:37It's the defense that just has to pick up a little bit more.
- 37:41And it's mainly the secondary and maybe a little bit of the pass rush.
- 37:46Okay.
- 37:47Because for Sean Gary, we all know Sean Gary, he's doing his thing.
- 37:49You all know that you have Kenny Clark.
- 37:51Okay, cool.
- 37:52But outside of them, you got to have, you know, more production out of what you already
- 37:57have right now, plus what you're getting ready to bring in.
- 38:01Because the Packers are not a bad team.
- 38:03The Packers are a really good team that could be a playoff caliber team.
- 38:07All they have to do is just stop falling on their own sword.
- 38:11We have seen multiple times where they just flopped like they flopped in the second half
- 38:18of the season.
- 38:19Why I don't know, but you have to be able to maximize the potential that you have on
- 38:26this team.
- 38:27You have a Christian Watson, you have Josh Jacobs, you have a really good offensive line,
- 38:31you have some good tight ends, you have pieces on this team.
- 38:36So you have to maximize it.
- 38:38Now granted, you do have a very competitive division.
- 38:41I'm not going to hold you.
- 38:42It's a very competitive division.
- 38:44But still, you have Jordan Love, who's a really good quarterback.
- 38:48So you have to figure this thing out and they can do it in this offseason.
- 38:52Now when we look at candidates for restructure, extension, trades and cuts, Jair Alexander,
- 38:57like I just said, trade them.
- 39:00Especially with the large contract that he has.
- 39:0316 million for his base salary this year and then next year it's 18 million.
- 39:08And then the cap hits.
- 39:10The cap hit this year is 25.4 and then next year is 27.8.
- 39:14You might as well just want to offload that contract.
- 39:17Because what it sounds like to me is it's a relationship that's going back.
- 39:21So just cut your ties with it.
- 39:23Romeo Dobbs, trade them.
- 39:27But with him though, he does have a market.
- 39:30It's not a strong market, but it's a decent market.
- 39:33His market value, if he was to get traded and then extended, would be four years 47.4
- 39:39million, which is 11.9 million a year.
- 39:43That's not bad.
- 39:45That's actually really good, honestly.
- 39:46That's a pretty good team friendly deal.
- 39:48Just saying.
- 39:49Christian Watson, I probably would start talking about an extension now.
- 39:54I wouldn't put it off until I would start doing it now just so you're ahead of the gun.
- 40:00Because if you don't, you're going to be like the bangles where you take a risk.
- 40:05And then if that risk doesn't go in your favor, then guess what?
- 40:09You're going to have to shell out twice or three times as much more money than what you
- 40:14didn't have to do, had you just pay them right then and there.
- 40:19So when we look at it, they don't have a lot of people that they have to pay.
- 40:24There's not a lot of people that are demanding big contracts.
- 40:28They made sure that they take care of their people fairly well.
- 40:31And they made sure they take care of the big players on their team.
- 40:34So all in all, you're in a good spot.
- 40:38I looked at the salary cap situation for every single one of these teams.
- 40:43All of them are in a really good salary cap space.
- 40:46All of them are, you know, they have cap space where they can, where they can make moves,
- 40:53but they don't have the type of cap space where they can bring in two or three big fishes.
- 40:58Okay.
- 40:59Malik Willis, give him an extension.
- 41:01Good backup quarterback option.
- 41:04He actually did pretty well when joining love was out this season.
- 41:07I'm just saying, I'm just saying you have to keep him just saying.
- 41:12Now when we look at the Vikings, okay, 63.8 million in cap space, roll over capital 5.9
- 41:18million, you have free agents that include Cam Robinson, Sam Darno, Byron Murphy, Staff
- 41:23on Gilmore, Aaron Jones, Shaquille Griffin, Jerry Tellery, Jonathan Bullard, David Quessenberry,
- 41:30Jiha Ward and Patrick Jones, just to name a few.
- 41:33Okay.
- 41:34Draft picks.
- 41:35You don't have a whole lot of draft picks because you have to use them to, you know,
- 41:38to get some people.
- 41:39So of course you got your first.
- 41:40You don't have a second.
- 41:41You have a third.
- 41:42You don't have a fourth and you have two fifth round picks.
- 41:45You don't have a six and you don't have a seven.
- 41:47Okay.
- 41:48Positions of need.
- 41:49This may be a little bit controversial, but who cares?
- 41:53Cornerback.
- 41:54Inside linebacker, excuse me, safety, running back, defensive line, interior offensive line
- 41:59in tight end.
- 42:00Okay.
- 42:01Now with corner, the reason why I say that is because it depends on what happens with
- 42:06the Byron Murphy situation.
- 42:08If they don't pay Byron Murphy, I feel like corner should be the top priority.
- 42:16But if they do keep Byron Murphy, then that can be a day two or day three option inside
- 42:22linebacker outside of Jiha Campbell.
- 42:26Who else do you really want to invest into?
- 42:28Now, granny, you have Barrick Carter, you have Carson, a Swaringer and company.
- 42:33You do.
- 42:34You have pretty good, you know, inside linebacker options, or you can bring in somebody from
- 42:41free agency if you want to, because again, the linebacker market isn't as strong.
- 42:45You don't have to pay 20, 25 or 30 million for a good productive inside linebacker.
- 42:51Now safety, safety is a little bit of a question mark.
- 42:56And I only say that because granny, you have some really good safety options.
- 43:02You have Malachi Starks.
- 43:03You have E-Man, you have Xavier Watts, you have Jaylen Reed, like you have some really
- 43:09good options at safety.
- 43:12Do I think any of them are going to fall that far?
- 43:15No.
- 43:17I don't think Malachi Starks are going to fall that low.
- 43:19I don't think E-Man is going to fall that low, especially with E-Man having the data
- 43:25he had at the combine.
- 43:26I just don't see it.
- 43:28Now I could be wrong, but sometimes you just need a little bit of luck.
- 43:32But I think for safety, I think you probably have to start bringing in Harrison Smith's
- 43:39replacement because I think this might be Harrison Smith's last year.
- 43:44I'm just being honest here.
- 43:45I think you have to bring in his successor so that they can sit and that they can learn
- 43:51on Harrison Smith.
- 43:53So that way when Harrison Smith gets ready to pass on the torch, there's no problem.
- 43:58Now running back, for some people you'll probably say, well just bring back Aaron Jones.
- 44:03No.
- 44:04The only reason why I say that is because with the running back class as big as it is
- 44:09and as diverse as it is, you have to pluck at least two of them.
- 44:14If you bring in someone like a Dylan Samson and a Caleb Johnson or a Trayvon Henderson
- 44:20and a Taj Brooks, that's good.
- 44:23That's really good productive running backs.
- 44:26Why in the world would you want to pay eight or 10 or 12 million a year for a running back
- 44:31where you can go and pluck two from the draft and it won't even hurt you?
- 44:37Not to mention, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these running backs do not get drafted
- 44:42and then become undrafted free agents.
- 44:44And in that case, you can get them for more of a steal, unfortunately, but that is the
- 44:49business side of football, unfortunately.
- 44:52Now defensive line.
- 44:54Have the position where they are right now, sure, you can prioritize that in the first
- 44:58round if you wanted to.
- 44:59You can get someone like a Derek Harmon.
- 45:01You can get someone like Darius Alexander, Jordan Phillips, Deon Walker.
- 45:06Did I say Walter Nolan?
- 45:08I probably didn't.
- 45:09I don't know.
- 45:10But you have options there.
- 45:13You could, and I'm just saying hypothetically speaking, you can make a trade for someone
- 45:16like a Jonathan Allen if you wanted to.
- 45:18You can bring in someone like Javon Hargrave because Javon Hargrave is said to be released
- 45:23so he will be a free agent next week.
- 45:26You have options at defensive line.
- 45:28You can bring in someone like a BJ Hill.
- 45:31I will continue to say this for any team that has a defensive line problem.
- 45:37This is the year that you need to address it because you have a really good defensive
- 45:43line draft class this year that you could bring in two or three really good quality
- 45:49defensive linemen.
- 45:51You can bring in someone like a Shamara Stewart.
- 45:53You can bring someone in like a Shamara Turner.
- 45:55You can bring in someone like, who else haven't said, there's so many, like so many defensive
- 46:03linemen that I still haven't even been able to look at, but you have options of line.
- 46:08So you might as well want to make that type of investment now, especially with you making
- 46:12the investment of getting Dallas Turner.
- 46:14You might as well.
- 46:16So when we look at interior offensive line, you can bring in someone again like a Grey
- 46:21Zable Tyler Booker or you can get the veteran approach.
- 46:25Me personally, I sort of like the veteran approach a little bit only because sometimes
- 46:31it can be a little bit cheaper depending on who it is.
- 46:34And you already know what you're getting out of them compared to drafting somebody and
- 46:39you're having to show them the way.
- 46:41Now granted, there are some people that you draft, they can, you know, they can hatch
- 46:45latch on pretty quickly and it's no problem.
- 46:47And then there's others that may take a little bit time to, you know, groom and really see
- 46:52the potential out of them.
- 46:54So you have options there.
- 46:56Me personally, I feel like Tyler Booker and Grey Zable are interior linemen one and two
- 47:00for me because both of them were pulled to the side to practice at center.
- 47:06So I think if you bring in someone like a Grey Zable, I think that would be perfect.
- 47:11I think that would be a match made in heaven.
- 47:14Personally, just saying.
- 47:16Now when we look at tight end, for some people it's a little bit controversial because they
- 47:21had TJ Hawkinson, but the fact of the matter is he is getting up in age.
- 47:26He has been having a lot of injuries lately.
- 47:30And I think you need to bring in somebody that can take some of the snaps off of him.
- 47:34I think if you bring in someone like a Harold Fannon Jr. or you bring in the tight end from
- 47:41Miami or you bring in Colston Lovelin or a Tyler Warren, if you bring in one of those
- 47:47tight ends and you pair them with TJ Hawkinson, that expands the offense even more because
- 47:54now you're going to have Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, TJ Hawkinson, another tight
- 48:01end and then two really productive running backs.
- 48:03On top of this offensive line, we haven't even gone to the quarterback position yet.
- 48:08So I say all that to say this, Vikings, if you want to go back to where you just were
- 48:15or if you want to go further, you have to make more of an investment into the offense
- 48:22at certain positions.
- 48:24Now you can go at this a few different ways.
- 48:27You can go and bring in some young talent or you can bring in proven talent.
- 48:31The choice is yours.
- 48:32But remember, you are staring at the barrel of a gun when it comes to the quarterback
- 48:36position, which we're getting into right now.
- 48:39When we look at candidates for restructure, extension, trades and cuts, okay, Sam Darno,
- 48:46this is going to be the most talked about situation because on one hand you have somebody
- 48:51that played really well.
- 48:54You have somebody that at one point in time in the season, people were saying he could
- 49:00have been an MVP.
- 49:02I'm dead serious.
- 49:04That is how crazy they were doing in the first half of the season.
- 49:08But then they fell off a little bit and then they just flopped when it came to the playoffs.
- 49:14So you can run it back with Sam Darno or you can go and you can just stick with JJ McCarthy.
- 49:22Now the thing is this, the Vikings in some ways can finesse Sam Darno just a little bit.
- 49:30The reason why I say that is because he can't demand 45 or 50 million a year just because
- 49:37of how bad things went when they needed him the most.
- 49:43You could probably get him from maybe 35 to maybe 42 million a year at best.
- 49:48I don't think anything after that you can do it.
- 49:52Now when we look at his market value, it's a four year $160.4 million deal, which is
- 49:5840.1 million a year.
- 50:00Me personally, I feel like that's the sweet spot.
- 50:03I think anything over that you're reaching hard.
- 50:08So you have this decision where do you want to run it back with Sam Darno or do you want
- 50:15to go with the rookie because he's still a rookie at this point.
- 50:19This is going to be the first official season that he's going to be able to play.
- 50:22So you have a decision that you have to make.
- 50:24Now, when you make this decision, I think you have to weigh the outcomes with what you
- 50:31already have on the team.
- 50:32I think you have to weigh in with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and TJ Hawkinson because
- 50:39this team was on a whole nother level when Sam Darno was in.
- 50:44If you put JJ McCarthy in, they're going to have to relearn a new quarterback.
- 50:49And I don't think someone like a Justin Jefferson wants to do that again.
- 50:52So I say all that to say this, even you pay Sam Darno now and you have JJ McCarthy weight,
- 51:01which it wouldn't hurt him.
- 51:03Honestly, it'll give him time to develop and really be the best version that he can be.
- 51:09Or you can take the risk.
- 51:10You can let him walk and then you can run it with JJ McCarthy.
- 51:14But I think it all depends on if JJ McCarthy is fully healed.
- 51:19If his knee is fully repaired and it's good to go, give it a shot.
- 51:25But if not, and in the contract negotiations with Sam Darno continue to draw out and the
- 51:30number continues to be a crazy number that you guys aren't willing to pay, well then
- 51:35by all means, let him walk.
- 51:37But don't look back.
- 51:40Don't be the person saying, come on, come on back.
- 51:42Come on, we need you.
- 51:43We need you.
- 51:44No, no, no, no.
- 51:45Please come back.
- 51:46No, just let him walk.
- 51:48Okay.
- 51:49So, you know, I'm going to ask you a question.
- 51:51You have a tough decision that you have to make.
- 51:53Do you want to pay him the amount of money that he's probably going to be asking for?
- 51:57Because he's going to be asking for a lot of money.
- 51:58He had a really good season.
- 52:00Like his market value is four years, 88.3 million, which is 22.1 billion a year.
- 52:06That's a lot of money.
- 52:07Do you want to do that?
- 52:10I think you have to.
- 52:12I think right now the Vikings are in a spot if they hit on their draft picks and free
- 52:19agency signings.
- 52:22Let me just say this.
- 52:23Let me also say this as well.
- 52:25When we think of free agency, a lot of times we think of the big flashy move.
- 52:30We think of the first person that signs the big deal that resets their position on market
- 52:36or whatever.
- 52:37But a lot of times it's the free agent signings that not a lot of people talk about that are
- 52:43the most effective ones.
- 52:45And we see it every single year.
- 52:49Think about it.
- 52:50Zach Bond signed a one year deal with the Eagles.
- 52:54There was a lot of uncertainty with him.
- 52:57Vic Vangio saw the potential in him.
- 53:00They worked and then guess what?
- 53:02Super Bowl champions and he got paid for it.
- 53:05The same.
- 53:07So with Byron Murphy, you could pay him, which I do expect for them to pay him simply because
- 53:14they pushed the contract deadline.
- 53:22So they're pushing it back for a lot of people.
- 53:25So if they're pushing it back for a lot of people, that lets me know that they are trying
- 53:29to hash out a deal fairly quickly.
- 53:32Dalton Reisner extension.
- 53:35And I only say that because it's not a lot of money to pay him.
- 53:38Two years, 6.7 million, which is only 3.4 million a year.
- 53:43That's not a whole lot of money.
- 53:45You still have to be able to have deaf pieces and people that aren't making a whole lot
- 53:50of money.
- 53:51Understand this here, fellow junkies.
- 53:55A roster isn't just composed of people that are making double digit amount of money.
- 54:01It's not about a team that has a whole bunch of players that are making 12, 11, 22, 28,
- 54:0845, 52 million a year.
- 54:11It's not about that.
- 54:12It's about prioritizing certain positions.
- 54:15And then the other positions outside of those prioritized positions, you make sure that
- 54:20you pay them, but you don't overpay them.
- 54:23Now when we look at someone like a Patrick Jones, I think you can give him an extension
- 54:27as well because he's coming off of a seven sack season.
- 54:31He played a really pivotal role with his defense in the patch rush.
- 54:34I think you have to reward him.
- 54:36Same thing with Andrew Van Ginkel extension.
- 54:40Three years, 45.8 million, which is only 15.3 million a year.
- 54:44Now do you want to give him that type of money?
- 54:49That's for you to decide, but me personally, I would try to knock it down just a little
- 54:54bit because again, you still have to pay other people.
- 54:57You still have to prioritize other positions.
- 55:00So you want to be able to maximize what you have while at the same time, position yourself
- 55:07to where if anything crazy happens and training camp or somebody wants to come to the Vikings,
- 55:13guess what?
- 55:14You can make that move and you don't have to do a bunch of restructures and cuts and
- 55:19all of this financial stuff that a lot of teams have to do.
- 55:25So all in all, this is what I have to say about the Vikings.
- 55:28You're in a great spot, continue to build, continue to prioritize certain positions and
- 55:34you will be fine.
- 55:36You will be right back where you just were.
- 55:39Now onto the Lions, okay?
- 55:41Your salary, 51.3 million with a rollover cap of 23.7 million.
- 55:46Not bad.
- 55:47Your free agents, Carlton Davis, Marcus Davenport, Kevin Zyler, John Kaminski, Levi, Anwan Zinkari,
- 55:55I know I just butchered your last name.
- 55:57I am so sorry.
- 55:58Alan Robison, a few too, Metal Fano, Dan Skipper, Michael Bagley and Juan de Donne Alexander
- 56:05as I call him.
- 56:07Now when we look at this, all right, your draft picks, you got your first, your second, your
- 56:11third, your fourth, you don't have a fifth, you have your sixth and you have three seventh
- 56:16round picks.
- 56:18Positions of need, DB, Edge, Interior, Offensive Line and D-Line.
- 56:24The only reason why I say Interior, Offensive Line is because of Kevin Zyler.
- 56:29If he leaves, then that's position that you have to prioritize and take care of.
- 56:34Now when we look at this, all right, the Lions have had a lot of turnover this off season.
- 56:41You lost both your offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator and you've lost a majority
- 56:46of your positional coaches.
- 56:47So you've had to elevate a lot of your assistance into replacing the positional coaches positions.
- 56:54I know, confusing, right?
- 56:56Say that three times.
- 56:57So here you are in a situation where you're trying to get over the hump, you're trying
- 57:04to get to the Super Bowl and then this happens.
- 57:08So now you have a lot of questions that you have to answer moving forward.
- 57:13Is Jerichoff going to be the same Jerichoff that we've seen in the last three years?
- 57:17Is this offense going to be the same offense that we've seen in the last four years?
- 57:21Is this defense going to be the same that we've seen in the last few years?
- 57:26There's a lot of questions right now with the Lions.
- 57:30And I think right now, if you are a Lions fan, you have to have a lot of questions because
- 57:37right now it'll be different if you lost one of your coordinators, right?
- 57:42If you lost Ben Johnson, but you kept Aaron Glenn for another year, okay, all is well,
- 57:48right?
- 57:49But you lost both of them.
- 57:50And then on top of that, you lost their assistants as well.
- 57:54So like everyone's having to learn a new system, everyone's having to learn, you know, everything
- 57:59all over again, because it might be different philosophies with everybody.
- 58:04So I say all that to say this.
- 58:07Sure, you're in a really good tap space, but you have to figure out exactly what are you
- 58:13going to prioritize first?
- 58:15Are you going to prioritize making sure that you take care of your own players or trying
- 58:19to figure out who else could we bring in that could be an instant upgrade that can take
- 58:23us to the next level?
- 58:25Because right now, your division is about to get a whole lot more competitive.
- 58:31And the reason why I say that is because a majority of the teams in your division all
- 58:37have really good offenses, as well as really good defenses as well.
- 58:42This division last year outside of the Bears, no disrespect to y'all, was really competitive
- 58:47all the way to the end.
- 58:49Lions and Vikings fought tooth and nail all the way to the end.
- 58:54Okay.
- 58:55Packers, they were putting up a fight at first, but they just lost their grip.
- 59:00Okay.
- 59:01But when we look at everything for DB, the problem is where you guys are positioned.
- 59:07So you have the 28th pick in the draft.
- 59:10So most likely you're not going to have a really good choice when it comes to who you
- 59:14really want at DB.
- 59:16So sure, you can take a risk on someone like, you know, Siobhan Reville or Will Johnson,
- 59:24if he's there or Benjamin Morrison or all the corners that we all know and love, or you
- 59:29can take a swing at somebody in day two and day three if you want to.
- 59:34But I think if you want to be aggressive, you may have to trade up to get somebody that
- 59:38you really like.
- 59:40Now granted, Carlton Davis is a free agent and then a few too, Malifano is a free agent
- 59:45as well.
- 59:47And then not to mention Kirby Joseph, I think he's about to be a free agent after this season
- 59:52begins and ends and whatnot.
- 59:54So you have to figure out exactly what do you want to prioritize first?
- 59:59Do you want to prioritize corner?
- 1:00:01Do you want to prioritize safety?
- 1:00:04Now with safety, again, as I've said before, the two main safeties that I think everyone
- 1:00:08is going to want to go after is Malachi Starks and E-man.
- 1:00:12You are in no position to get neither one of them.
- 1:00:16So the second best thing you can do, we sign them, we sign some of your players and then
- 1:00:21try to see if you can take a swing at someone like an Ezra Thomas or Jade Barron.
- 1:00:26Because if they fall to at least 22 or 23, I think you can make that move and you can
- 1:00:33trade up and you can get them.
- 1:00:35And that would be great because let's be real here.
- 1:00:40Inside of Tarion Arnold, who else can you really rely on?
- 1:00:44Because you've had a lot of turnover with this secondary in the last few years.
- 1:00:49You thought getting camps was going to be the answer.
- 1:00:52We all know how that ended.
- 1:00:53I'm not going to get into it.
- 1:00:55You bring in Carlton Davis.
- 1:00:57Carlton Davis does his thing, but now he's a free agent and now he's going to be more
- 1:01:00expensive than, you know, than when he was before.
- 1:01:03Kirby Joseph, he's going to want his money as well.
- 1:01:06So you have to figure out exactly what are you going to do moving forward?
- 1:01:12Because even with edge, you can attack that in the first run if you want to.
- 1:01:16I feel like someone like a James Pierce, he's going to fall out of the first round because
- 1:01:20apparently he has attitude issues.
- 1:01:23There's a red flag with him that not a lot of people are talking about.
- 1:01:26And I really want to find out exactly what it is.
- 1:01:30Defensive line, as I've said before, and I will continue to say, you can address it
- 1:01:34at any point in the draft.
- 1:01:36You can address it in the first round, second round, third round, so on and so forth.
- 1:01:42Okay.
- 1:01:43Interior, offensive line.
- 1:01:45I feel like you can address that in free agency because right now you can't really be in the
- 1:01:51position to go after another, you know, really good edge rusher.
- 1:01:56I mean, sure, you could probably get someone like a Khalil Mac or Joey Bolsa if you really
- 1:01:59want to take that route.
- 1:02:00But do you really want to do that?
- 1:02:01I don't think you really want to.
- 1:02:03You want to mention you have to get ready to pay hutch as well.
- 1:02:06And with Max probably resetting the market hutch price probably just went up just a little
- 1:02:12bit more.
- 1:02:13So you have a lot of decisions that you have to make this off season.
- 1:02:16My fellow Lions fans.
- 1:02:18So when we look at, you know, positions of need, well, no, not not not position need.
- 1:02:23What am I talking about?
- 1:02:24Candidates, excuse me, for restructure, extension, trades and cuts.
- 1:02:29As I just said, Aiden Hutchison extension.
- 1:02:32Okay.
- 1:02:33Market value for years, 122.1 million, which is 30.5 million a year.
- 1:02:41That price may have just went up maybe five or $6 million even more.
- 1:02:46Just saying Kirby Joseph, like I just finished talking about extension market value for years,
- 1:02:5292.8 million, which is 23.2 million a year.
- 1:02:56I'm sorry, you're going to have to take care of these guys.
- 1:02:59You could not let Kirby Joseph play out the rest of the rest of this year.
- 1:03:03I think you have to make sure that you lock him up because who's to say that he's going
- 1:03:08to hold out and train camp?
- 1:03:10Do you really want that?
- 1:03:11I don't think you do.
- 1:03:12Who else?
- 1:03:13Who else?
- 1:03:14Who else?
- 1:03:15Jameson Williams.
- 1:03:16I feel like you could give him an extension as well because he can't really demand a whole
- 1:03:20lot of money because you're paying a lot of money to Amon Ross and Brown.
- 1:03:23So with his market value, it's only three years, 59 million, which is only 19.7 million a year.
- 1:03:29That's not bad.
- 1:03:30That's actually pretty good.
- 1:03:31Honestly.
- 1:03:32I feel fine.
- 1:03:33Extension.
- 1:03:34Levi, I forgot how to pronounce your last name.
- 1:03:39I'm very sorry.
- 1:03:40Extension.
- 1:03:41Even when I looked at his market value, I was actually surprised.
- 1:03:44I would have thought it would have been in the double digits, but for it to be only two
- 1:03:48years, nine million, which is 4.5 million a year, I feel like that's a bargain, honestly
- 1:03:55speaking.
- 1:03:56Marcus Davenport, you could give him an extension or you could try to get somebody that could
- 1:04:01be a little bit of a better upgrade. Like the choice is yours. Honestly, you don't have to bring back markets that important. I feel
- 1:04:09like that's a decision that you can make, you know, later into the summer. I don't feel like that's something that's like a pressing
- 1:04:14need. Honestly, Carlton Davis, that is a little bit more of a pressing need because when we look at his market value is three
- 1:04:22years, 41.3 million, which is 13.8 million a year. I think you have to bring him back. You may not like it, but you might have
- 1:04:35to bring him back. That is not really that big of a deal. I think 13 million, I think that's pretty good compared to what, you
- 1:04:43know, Tyreek Willen or sauce gardener or a lot of these other bigger name corners may try to gardener in free agency. Kevin
- 1:04:51Zyler, that's a question mark because you have to figure out if you want to play or not. If he wants to play, you can give him an
- 1:04:57extension because the extension is not going to cost you a whole lot. One year, 9.2 million, which is again 9.2 million a
- 1:05:04year. That's not bad at all. So I say all that to say this, I think you have to do a little bit of dabbling and dabbling. You
- 1:05:12have to prioritize taking care of your players, especially the players are going to be a lot of money while at the same time,
- 1:05:21trying to repatch any positions that you have on this team. Because let's be real here. The only reason why the Lions didn't make it as
- 1:05:29far as they did was because of injuries. That defense got riddled with injuries and they were just trying to find somebody to be able
- 1:05:38to play on Sundays. It was so bad that they were getting people from other people's practice squads and just trying to do some
- 1:05:45patchwork. They had Jamal Adams, Mr. I'm the best in the nation. Playing for them. They had Juan Alexander playing for them.
- 1:05:54They were riddled. This person was out for the season. This person was out for the season. This person was out for the season like
- 1:06:01injuries did their thing with the Lions defense. For one, you have to get healthy to prioritize who you want to prioritize.
- 1:06:11And three, if you're going to be aggressive in the draft, be aggressive. If not, play it cool. See how the board falls and then just go
- 1:06:21from there. But I'm going to end this episode here. If you guys like what you're listening, please, please, please, please, please,
- 1:06:26make sure you guys download the episodes. Okay, because that's the only way that I can give you guys the fix that you guys need.

- 1:07:47up this episode today? And I don't know I'll flip it. We'll figure it out. For my Instagram people football underscore junkies
- 1:07:53pod. Okay, football underscore junkies pod junkies pod is not what
- 1:07:57it is. It is together, not spaced. Okay, it is together, not spaced. Follow me on Twitter at GM kale. Okay, GM kale,
- 1:08:12K a I l e. All right. That's where I do a lot of my debates. And you know, just talking with with different people on what's
- 1:08:20going on in the league and you know, and what their team and whatnot. Okay, for what else for blue sky. Okay, follow me on
- 1:08:28there as well. GM kale. All right, GM kale. That's where I do a lot of my posting of a lot of the content. I'm definitely going
- 1:08:35to try to interact with blue sky even more, probably post more, you know, more content like my drafts and my thoughts on
- 1:08:44on different things and whatnot. So as always, I hope I gave you guys the fix that you guys need. I love you guys. I
- 1:08:50appreciate you guys so much. Remember, next week, next week is a great week for all of us, my fellow football junkies because
- 1:08:57why free agency starts? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Monday, I think if I'm not mistaken, at 10 o'clock, the league year begins.
- 1:09:11Okay, that is when the legal tampering period begins. So you can start having conversations with other teams. Okay,
- 1:09:19hopefully Justin field times with the stewards, please, please, please. But then the find the finale. Okay, free agency begins on
- 1:09:30Wednesday afternoon. And you already know, we will be covering any and all major signings and more when that happens. So as
- 1:09:38always, I love you guys. I appreciate you guys so much. This is your GM kale signing out. Peace and love later.
- 1:09:44Breaking news, breaking news, breaking news, breaking news, folks, Trey Hendrickson has been given permission to seek a trade.
- 1:09:55Yes, that Trey Hendrickson. Now, when we look at the financials of this, all right, he has one year left on his deal, which is
- 1:10:02non guarantee. All right, the bangles save 16 million in cap space while only taking on 2.6 million in dead cap. Now,
- 1:10:11automatically, I can tell you two teams right now that would love to have someone like a Trey Hendrickson, Washington and the
- 1:10:18Eagles. I think if either one of those two teams get Trey Hendrickson, that automatically up upgrades them and puts them in a
- 1:10:26different stratosphere. Okay, especially the Eagles, because they're about to lose Josh sweat and Brandon Graham. So if you
- 1:10:34bring in someone like a Trey Hendrickson, I think that patches things up. I think that addresses that need. Now for
- 1:10:41Washington, this is an automatic upgrade over what you already have. Now granted, not a Fowler and Frankie Lover were very
- 1:10:49productive, but Trey Hendrickson is on a whole other level. And I think you can talk him down his price. This is an ongoing
- 1:10:57situation. Stay tuned. There's going to be more probably within the coming days. So as always, love you guys. Peace out.
- 1:11:04Later. Now this was definitely expected only because the Bengals were not going to be able to pay T Higgins, Trey Hendrickson and
- 1:11:15Jamar Chase and one offseason. You're resetting the market for Jamar Chase. You're probably playing 28 to maybe 30 million for
- 1:11:24T Higgins. And Trey Hendrickson, I don't even know what his place is, especially with Max Krobs beginning his deal yesterday. So
- 1:11:33Bengals, what are you guys doing? Sam Hubbard just retired yesterday. You essentially have nobody on your defense. You are
- 1:11:43literally back to being the Bengals of old. Bengals will be the Bengals, I guess. Double breaking news, double breaking news,
- 1:11:50double breaking news. Just when you think this episode was over. No, it is not. Christian Kirk has been traded to the
- 1:11:57Texans, folks. So the Texans are inheriting Christian Kirk in the one year that is left on his deal, which is non
- 1:12:05guaranteed at 16.5 million. The Jaguars are getting a 2026 seventh round pick for any person for any Steelers fan that wants to
- 1:12:18argue with me moving forward and say that, oh, we don't need to go after DK Metcalf. You are wrong. All of you are all
- 1:12:28wrong because you know why we literally went from a point to where you had Debo Samuel available. Brandon I you would possibly
- 1:12:37available again, Metcalf and Christian Kirk. And now it is basically gone all the way down to pop and I you in DK Metcalf.
- 1:12:46That quickly. What are we doing here, folks? What are we doing? He can no longer sit in our hands and just play the waiting
- 1:12:57game until next week. Teams are making moves now prior to the start of free agency. So what are we doing? What are we doing,
- 1:13:07Omar? You have to get DK now. That's the only way that you could consider this offseason to start off.
- 1:13:16On the right foot. I know I'm probably saying that wrong, but I'm just so frustrated because it doesn't make sense that we
- 1:13:24continue to go through another offseason where we play the waiting game instead of being aggressive. If you want to win, you
- 1:13:33have to be aggressive. Washington has been aggressive. Houston has been aggressive. The 49ers have been aggressive. I wouldn't
- 1:13:41be surprised right now. By the time I am done recording this little bit for this episode, that Washington would have made a trade
- 1:13:51to get trade Hendrickson. People want to win. If you are not willing to win, if you are not that pissed off of not making
- 1:13:58a goal and not holding up a Lombardi, then what are you doing with yourself? You no longer need to be a GM. If you don't want to
- 1:14:06take this thing serious, whatever the asking priority for a DK Metcalf, give it to him. Give it to him. What's it going to hurt
- 1:14:14you? It's not going to hurt you at all. The going price for a top 10 receiver is probably 30 plus million a year. That's just
- 1:14:21the price. It's no longer 06 where you can get an all pro pro bowler future Hall of Fame player for 6 and a half million. You
- 1:14:30can no longer do that. The price is the price. You have to go and you have to be aggressive. Even if it needs a give up a player just so
- 1:14:40you don't have to give up a first round pick to get someone like a DK Metcalf, do it then. Do you really need everybody in your team? No, you
- 1:14:48don't. Ship away Mario. Ship away Cole Holcomb. Ship away Roman Wilson. Ship away people that you know are not going to make it to the
- 1:14:58field. You need productive playmakers. Y'all said it yourselves. Y'all wanted playmakers. You wanted to win a playoff game. But if you want to
- 1:15:08play off game, you have to start now. This is where teams are built. This is where championships are created when when GMs want to make
- 1:15:17aggressive moves and position themselves over everybody, not only their division, but everybody in the league. I'm off my
- 1:15:25self box. I don't even want to say what else I wanted to say later.
