- 1:27Speaker 3: We're going to go ahead and bring in Our good man,
- 1:29Speaker 3: Rafael Esparza. Get him on VSL.Sports. Esparza, I hope you
- 1:33Speaker 3: had a great Labor Day weekend.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Busy?
- 1:35Speaker 5: I mean, it's football season, so everyone thinks Labor Day
- 1:38Speaker 5: is an extra day off.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I got a Monday holiday. Nope, not in my world.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I don't have Jake's kind of schedule where he gets
- 1:45Speaker 5: to take vacations and gets to go all over the
- 1:48Speaker 5: world and travel with his payroll that he gets at
- 1:51Speaker 5: the station.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Some of us little guys have to, you know, grind
- 1:56Speaker 4: every day, 365 days a year.
- 1:58Speaker 2: No, I agree with you. And you are grinding. You
- 2:00Speaker 2: are grinding. Hey, let me ask you this.
- 2:03Speaker 3: How much stock do you put into Heisman odds right now?
- 2:08Speaker 3: You know, just depending on what you look at. I'm
- 2:11Speaker 3: looking at some here. Let me just give you some
- 2:13Speaker 3: courtesy of on three. This may differ from what you
- 2:17Speaker 3: guys have out there. If you want to play the
- 2:18Speaker 3: Heisman right now. But if we were looking at the
- 2:20Speaker 3: Heisman odds, it's courtesy of on three. And I don't
- 2:22Speaker 3: know which book they're referencing.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 2:24Speaker 3: But Malachi Toney at number one, Darian Mensah two, Trinidad Chambliss,
- 2:28Speaker 3: Jeremiah Smith, Sam Levitt, Camario Taylor, Mississippi State, Dante Moore,
- 2:31Speaker 3: Jaden Mavia. You've got a couple more there as well.
- 2:34Speaker 3: How much stock do you put in these lists this
- 2:35Speaker 3: time of year?
- 2:37Speaker 5: None, because last time I'm looking at this list, there's
- 2:39Speaker 5: no Indiana quarterback who had a great game for the
- 2:43Speaker 5: Big Ten.
- 2:43Speaker 4: So, no, I mean.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Miami, they played an extra game than everyone else seems like.
- 2:48Speaker 5: They're ahead of the schedule. Sam Levitt really against Clemson.
- 2:52Speaker 5: I mean, you could have scored on Clemson's defense. That
- 2:56Speaker 5: list means nothing to me whatsoever.
- 2:58Speaker 3: How excited are you for the NFL? We've got an
- 3:00Speaker 3: NFL game going on right now.
- 3:03Speaker 5: I was excited until Sam Donald's limping around, and he's
- 3:07Speaker 5: doubtful to come back with a hip injury. So I
- 3:09Speaker 5: was there at 0-0 in the second quarter right now.
- 3:13Speaker 5: So I thought we were going to see maybe a
- 3:14Speaker 5: high-scoring game. Just because I thought Drake May probably still
- 3:19Speaker 5: has nightmares. He got sacked six times in the Super Bowl.
- 3:22Speaker 5: So I really thought this might have been a little
- 3:24Speaker 5: bit of a scoring feast. But, no, so far it's
- 3:26Speaker 5: been a bore fest.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Well, let's jump into some of these games. Let me
- 3:30Speaker 3: pull this up real quickly. First off, let me ask
- 3:33Speaker 3: you this. LSU, what's going on? Are you surprised LSU
- 3:36Speaker 3: has kind of caved to the Southeastern Conference?
- 3:39Speaker 4: No.
- 3:40Speaker 5: But, I mean, living here, and you're probably close to it,
- 3:44Speaker 5: I mean, the governor runs everything, it seems like, in
- 3:47Speaker 5: the state. And I just think people probably were whispering
- 3:49Speaker 5: in his ears saying, hey, we can't lose this. Because
- 3:52Speaker 5: I heard from my multiple sources, from two reliable sources
- 3:58Speaker 5: that I do, There were two easy yeses that they
- 4:01Speaker 5: wanted them out of there.
- 4:04Speaker 4: So that's just the two people that I talked to.
- 4:06Speaker 5: So I thought they could have been a very good
- 4:09Speaker 5: chance that they would have gotten more than 11 points.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Boats to kick them out of the SEC. Because I've
- 4:14Speaker 5: heard multiple times, this is not just about football. Everyone
- 4:17Speaker 5: thinks it's all football, football. But LSU does this pretty
- 4:19Speaker 5: much in almost all sports.
- 4:21Speaker 4: They're the only.
- 4:21Speaker 5: School that I know that would do this for every sport. Now,
- 4:26Speaker 5: I mean, men's basketball, I still can't believe they have
- 4:28Speaker 5: hired Wade back. But, I mean, they're doing it right now.
- 4:30Speaker 5: They do it every year for baseball. They've been doing
- 4:33Speaker 5: it for gymnastics. They've been doing it for women's basketball.
- 4:35Speaker 5: So they're paying so much dead money on other coaches now.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I think that had to do, I think this was
- 4:42Speaker 5: just the icing on the cake with LSU and maybe
- 4:45Speaker 5: the SEC.
- 4:47Speaker 3: And I'm sure you saw it today, again, before we
- 4:49Speaker 3: get into these games. Let me pull it up real quick,
- 4:52Speaker 3: just for those that might have missed it. Of course,
- 4:55Speaker 3: the big, big kaboom over the weekend was, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 3: the Michigan-Western Michigan game.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And then the.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Replay, or the overdue, the do-over with one second left.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw this or not. I'll
- 5:08Speaker 3: put this up on the screen as well. The Big
- 5:10Speaker 3: Ten late this afternoon put out a statement that basically says, hey,
- 5:15Speaker 3: beginning Saturday, all football broadcasts from Big Ten venues will
- 5:18Speaker 3: include Big Ten replay on the field. Officials will be
- 5:21Speaker 3: able to feature live audio between game referee and replay
- 5:25Speaker 3: officials during the reviews alongside video of the game footage
- 5:28Speaker 3: being viewed during the process. So during Big Ten ballgames
- 5:32Speaker 3: or Big Ten officiating crews, they're daylight and a dollar
- 5:36Speaker 3: short on this.
- 5:36Speaker 2: At least they're going to give some transparency.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Yeah, you're correct.
- 5:40Speaker 5: But I'm a big believer. One play doesn't do the
- 5:43Speaker 5: outcome of the game. Now, this one actually does. But
- 5:46Speaker 5: how about Western Michigan? How about scoring a touchdown instead
- 5:49Speaker 5: of kicking all those field goals? How about doing that?
- 5:51Speaker 3: So, yes.
- 5:52Speaker 5: One play did kind of screw them, but I'm a
- 5:55Speaker 5: big trend guy in anything in life.
- 5:58Speaker 4: One incident starts the trend.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Well, if you would have scored a touchdown and not
- 6:03Speaker 5: kicked a field goal, it would have been a totally
- 6:05Speaker 5: different trend. We're not even talking about this subject because
- 6:08Speaker 5: Western Michigan would have won. So, yes, Michigan won the
- 6:11Speaker 5: extra second. But didn't the conference last year have mics
- 6:15Speaker 5: on all the refs and they were talking to the replay?
- 6:19Speaker 4: I can't remember what conference that was.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't either, but I think you're correct. Yes,
- 6:25Speaker 2: they've modified this.
- 6:26Speaker 3: The big problem is we don't have a governing body
- 6:28Speaker 3: like the NFL over all the officials. Each conference basically
- 6:33Speaker 3: polices their own, at least my opinion, polices their own
- 6:37Speaker 3: officiating crew, so it's all a little different.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it is, but it's funny.
- 6:42Speaker 5: What if we just only had a Power 5 schedule?
- 6:45Speaker 4: This would have never happened. But, yeah, we would have
- 6:48Speaker 4: big upsets.
- 6:48Speaker 5: We'd love to see– these types of close games and
- 6:52Speaker 5: upsets and stuff. I mean, I don't think the Pac-12
- 6:55Speaker 5: is a Power 5 team, but we would have missed
- 6:58Speaker 5: that great matchup of Boise State and Oregon if it
- 7:01Speaker 5: was only Power 5 schedule. We would have missed that.
- 7:04Speaker 5: So I hope that never comes to it just because
- 7:07Speaker 5: I think a lot of these Mac schools, WAC schools,
- 7:11Speaker 5: Mountain West schools can put some pressure on some of
- 7:13Speaker 5: these Power 5 teams.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Hey, before we get to the first game, how bad
- 7:17Speaker 3: did the public do this week? I did terrible last week.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I'm going to be honest with you. And I saw
- 7:22Speaker 3: big names like Clay Travis and others did bad.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It seemed like at least the sample size. Vegas cleaned
- 7:27Speaker 2: up this week.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Yeah, they had a really good week out there. A
- 7:30Speaker 5: lot of people who bet over his income in USC.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Everyone would pound that one over.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It was a 39.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Really, they couldn't– Fresno State scored once. Yeah, the public
- 7:40Speaker 5: didn't do well, even at the last game. Everyone had
- 7:44Speaker 5: Ole Miss, and Louisville hit step back to recover and
- 7:47Speaker 5: only loses by three.
- 7:49Speaker 4: LSU was very interesting. Money came in on Clemson.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I talked about hate money and all that, but then
- 7:57Speaker 5: Purple and gold money came in really, really late on Saturday.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I think they were probably waiting to see if nine
- 8:03Speaker 5: and a half, like I was hoping. I thought if
- 8:05Speaker 5: it went to nine and a half, I was going
- 8:06Speaker 5: to jump all over LSU.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Clemson's garbage. It never went there.
- 8:12Speaker 3: All right, let's jump into it. We got a Friday
- 8:15Speaker 3: night ball game, Missouri at Kansas. We got an old
- 8:18Speaker 3: big 12 throwback. Missouri is a five and a half
- 8:20Speaker 3: point favorite on the road to Kansas. That total is
- 8:23Speaker 3: at 50. Missouri looked pretty good in their opener. Kansas,
- 8:27Speaker 3: they've got a nice club. They put money into their program.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Can Missouri cover this game? This is a Friday night.
- 8:32Speaker 3: We've talked about it.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Friday nights get weird.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Yeah, they do get weird.
- 8:35Speaker 5: This one moved already a point open up at six
- 8:37Speaker 5: and a half. Now five and a half. I'm going
- 8:39Speaker 5: to wait to see if it does continue to move
- 8:41Speaker 5: lean towards the under. I think Missouri will want to
- 8:44Speaker 5: maybe slow this game down, run the ball, just get
- 8:47Speaker 5: out of a Friday game before it gets weird.
- 8:50Speaker 4: So I'm leaning towards the under. I don't like that.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Fifty and a half. I thought I was hoping to
- 8:54Speaker 4: get maybe fifty one or fifty two.
- 8:57Speaker 3: All right, let's go to Saturday, 11 o'clock ballgame on Fox.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I believe it's on Fox or the CBS. Oklahoma at
- 9:04Speaker 3: Michigan Sooners.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Fox, thank you. Oklahoma is a five-and-a-half point favorite. That
- 9:08Speaker 2: total is at 43-and-a-half.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Recency bias would tell us this, right? People saw Michigan play.
- 9:14Speaker 3: They're going to jump all over Oklahoma. Is that the
- 9:18Speaker 3: right play?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Bryce Underwood has not performed well. His coach is a
- 9:21Speaker 2: little critical of his play.
- 9:22Speaker 3: He said, hey, look, we've got to get some return
- 9:24Speaker 3: on investment here before too long. Do you like the
- 9:26Speaker 3: homestanding Michigan Wolverines or is Oklahoma just going to wear
- 9:29Speaker 3: them out?
- 9:31Speaker 5: I love when we have these big NIL players get
- 9:34Speaker 5: all this bag and then just don't perform. I mean,
- 9:36Speaker 5: I think a lot of universities are going to start
- 9:38Speaker 5: looking at if he has another bad game against one
- 9:41Speaker 5: of the top defenses in college football in Oklahoma. I
- 9:45Speaker 5: understand the money that's coming in, but not that much
- 9:49Speaker 5: big money because this number opened up at five and
- 9:52Speaker 5: a half and it's still at five. Five and a half.
- 9:55Speaker 5: So it's not like everyone jumped all over the Sooners
- 9:58Speaker 5: on this one. It's defense and defense. only under which
- 10:01Speaker 5: is a big flop and and a lot of schools
- 10:03Speaker 5: are going to use this as an example that hey
- 10:06Speaker 5: sometimes money doesn't pay.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Off Oklahoma State they they really crapped the bed over
- 10:12Speaker 3: the weekend got upset Oregon almost did against Boise These
- 10:16Speaker 3: two take on each other in Stillwater. This is an
- 10:18Speaker 3: 11 o'clock kick as well. Oregon a 23-point favorite. That
- 10:21Speaker 3: totals at 57. I would say that Oklahoma State plays better.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Oregon plays better. That's still a big line.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Oklahoma State won't play better.
- 10:28Speaker 5: They have a whole new coaching staff, whole new players
- 10:31Speaker 5: out there, a lot of transfers in this program.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And I'm tired of people bagging on Oregon all day.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Boise State is a playoff team. Boise State won the
- 10:41Speaker 5: Mountain West last year. Boise State is favored to win
- 10:45Speaker 5: the Pac-12. It's not like There's some scrub team. It's
- 10:48Speaker 5: not like they're Colorado State or Fresno State or Wyoming.
- 10:52Speaker 5: This is Boise. Boise has been there before. I like
- 10:55Speaker 5: Oregon in this spot. I'm not sold with Oklahoma State.
- 11:00Speaker 5: It's going to be a very, very long season for them.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State travel to Texas A & M.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Aggies looked, obviously, a college football playoff team last year.
- 11:10Speaker 3: They got a lot of guys coming back. They got
- 11:11Speaker 3: Marcel Reed back in quarterback. Dillingham got Arizona State by
- 11:14Speaker 3: virtue of the Big 12 a couple years ago. I
- 11:17Speaker 3: remember a couple years ago he said, hey, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 3: we're on a path to be a Blue Blood or
- 11:20Speaker 3: something like that. They're going to have to show it
- 11:22Speaker 3: this weekend. They are a two-touchdown dog. That totals at 50-and-a-half.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Who do you like?
- 11:27Speaker 5: Lean towards A & M because Arizona State has a
- 11:29Speaker 5: lot of new faces and key positions in this one.
- 11:32Speaker 5: It's not the same ASU team we saw last year,
- 11:34Speaker 5: but I can't lay this number with A & M.
- 11:37Speaker 5: A & M does.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Not deserve my money to lay a 14 and a half.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Not a 14, not a 13 and a half, but.
- 11:46Speaker 4: A two touchdown and a half. I want nothing to
- 11:50Speaker 4: do with A & M.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Busy with Rafael Esparza going through the lines over the weekend.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Of course, get him at VSL Doc Sports. We'll get
- 11:56Speaker 3: into some NFL here momentarily. When you kind of comb
- 11:59Speaker 3: through the weekend, you know, there's some games in there.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Of course, feel free to throw one or two in
- 12:03Speaker 3: there that we won't discuss. Alabama opens SEC play at Kentucky.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Kentucky feels like they've got a quarterback in Kenny Minchie
- 12:10Speaker 3: that can play. Came over from Ohio State. Alabama, a 10.5-point
- 12:14Speaker 3: favorite on the road. That totals at 49. I'm really
- 12:19Speaker 3: still skeptical Alabama. Their quarterback was the leading rusher over
- 12:23Speaker 3: the weekend against East Carolina. Will we look up Saturday
- 12:26Speaker 3: and then be in a buzzsaw in Lexington?
- 12:29Speaker 2: No.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I think Alabama's defense. I thought they played really well.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I thought the offensive line held well, even though you
- 12:35Speaker 5: said it, the quarterback led the team in rushing. But
- 12:40Speaker 5: I think the offensive line will give them some protection.
- 12:42Speaker 5: I like Alabama in this one. They've always had good
- 12:44Speaker 5: games in Lexington. Let's face it, Lexington's only known for
- 12:47Speaker 5: one thing, bourbon and horse racing.
- 12:49Speaker 2: That's absolutely true. And basketball in some years.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Not lately.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Not lately. You're absolutely correct. Big one out in the
- 12:57Speaker 2: Big 12.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Arizona taking on BYU. Bear Bachmeier, one of the best
- 13:01Speaker 3: names in college football. That's a 230 kick. The Cougars
- 13:05Speaker 3: of BYU are 7.5 point favorite.
- 13:06Speaker 2: That totals at 48. Boy, BYU was really good last year.
- 13:10Speaker 2: They're expected to be really good this year.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Yeah, this total has been dropping, opened up at 51.
- 13:14Speaker 5: So I think defense is going to be the key here.
- 13:17Speaker 5: And it's defense of BYU, not defense of Arizona.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Here's another one.
- 13:21Speaker 5: I love BYU, but that evil half a point on
- 13:24Speaker 5: week two or week three.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I forgot week zero week three. I just can't pull
- 13:28Speaker 4: the trigger.
- 13:29Speaker 5: If this was maybe week five, week six and BYU
- 13:32Speaker 5: has been cruising, I would maybe take that seven and
- 13:35Speaker 5: a half. But I want to sit back and see
- 13:37Speaker 5: if that number comes off. I think BYU wins this game.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Hey, we got a roll tide from Patch on Facebook,
- 13:43Speaker 3: and then we also got Matt, who's a big Florida fan.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Says, Jaden Ball for Heisman, the big running back. What
- 13:48Speaker 2: do you think? Is that a future bet?
- 13:51Speaker 4: Maybe next year's future bet.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Not this year. Not this year.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Not this year.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Hey, Mississippi State travels to Minnesota, 230 kick. This game
- 14:01Speaker 3: was a one to one and a half. It looks
- 14:03Speaker 3: like it's moved down to a pick'em game. Totals at
- 14:05Speaker 3: 55 and a half. Bulldogs with a lot to prove here. Boy,
- 14:09Speaker 3: it's kind of a break or make ball game for
- 14:11Speaker 3: them with South Carolina, Missouri, and getting an SEC play
- 14:14Speaker 3: next week.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I'm kind of staying away from this
- 14:17Speaker 5: game because if you're Mississippi State, let's win one before
- 14:19Speaker 5: league play goes. But Minnesota is thinking the same thing. Hey,
- 14:23Speaker 5: let's win one before we start playing conference play.
- 14:26Speaker 4: That's a coin flip.
- 14:28Speaker 5: I lean towards the home team on this one, but
- 14:31Speaker 5: I'm just going to stay away.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I do like the under.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I think Minnesota is going to want to run the
- 14:34Speaker 5: ball and make the clock tick away.
- 14:38Speaker 3: All right, a couple more here in the college world.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Of course, we've got the big one we've got to
- 14:43Speaker 3: get to. Tennessee at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech whiffed last
- 14:47Speaker 3: Thursday night against Colorado. Tennessee looked pretty impressive in their opener.
- 14:50Speaker 3: They're starting a freshman quarterback. Tennessee's a 12.5-point favorite, total
- 14:54Speaker 3: at 55.5.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Volunteers, are they an upset alert?
- 14:58Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe Georgia Tech needs to go back to the
- 15:00Speaker 5: I formation because I was not sold with them on Colorado.
- 15:04Speaker 5: So I like what I saw in Tennessee. I'm leaning
- 15:06Speaker 5: towards Tennessee again.
- 15:08Speaker 3: And the big one, Matthew McConaughey in all his glory
- 15:11Speaker 3: down in Austin, Texas. Texas, a one-point favorite in this
- 15:16Speaker 3: game against Ohio State. That total is a 49.5.
- 15:18Speaker 2: It was a defensive ballgame last year.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Was it 14-7 in the horseshoe?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Are we going to see the same kind of game?
- 15:27Speaker 5: No, I think we're going to see a totally opposite.
- 15:29Speaker 5: That's why this total opened up at 47.5. Now you
- 15:30Speaker 5: called it 49, 49.5. Folks are telling me that we
- 15:32Speaker 5: could see a 50. uh on this total because why
- 15:39Speaker 5: it's an evening game so what do people like to
- 15:41Speaker 5: bet on the evening game favorite it over favorite it
- 15:43Speaker 5: over favorite it over so i can see a 50
- 15:46Speaker 5: and i think we see a high scoring game i
- 15:47Speaker 5: can this one screams like a 27 25 uh type
- 15:51Speaker 5: of game i don't know who wins this one i
- 15:55Speaker 5: actually probably rooting for ohio state just because i love
- 15:59Speaker 5: to see a big 10 school beat an sec team
- 16:02Speaker 5: but i can see manning uh having a big game
- 16:04Speaker 5: and say hey you know what last year was a fluke.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Hey, one more college game.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Of course, feel free to throw one here if you
- 16:10Speaker 3: want to. Arkansas is at Utah. That's a 9-15 kick
- 16:15Speaker 3: on Saturday night.
- 16:16Speaker 2: The Hogs are a 12.5-point underdog to the Utes.
- 16:21Speaker 5: I think Utah just scored against Idaho State while we're
- 16:24Speaker 5: talking right now.
- 16:26Speaker 4: They looked impressive.
- 16:28Speaker 5: They look like, yes, we have a new head coach,
- 16:30Speaker 5: but don't forget our new head coach was our defensive coordinator.
- 16:34Speaker 5: So it's not like a lot of new things are happening.
- 16:37Speaker 5: This Utah team can be very, very scary. As long
- 16:40Speaker 5: as their quarterback can stay healthy. Every year Utah can
- 16:43Speaker 5: be up there, and what happens? Their quarterback gets hurt.
- 16:45Speaker 5: So they just need their quarterback to stay healthy.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Patriots on top, 7-0 over the Seahawks. We'll get more
- 16:53Speaker 3: into that tomorrow with you on the radio show. 49ers
- 16:56Speaker 3: at the Rams tomorrow night across the pond. Rams are
- 16:59Speaker 3: a three and a half point favorite. That totals at
- 17:01Speaker 3: 48 and a half. Big rivalry game, big division game
- 17:05Speaker 3: right out the gate for both teams.
- 17:07Speaker 4: I think it's going to be an under type game.
- 17:09Speaker 5: I hate picking a side on this game because I
- 17:11Speaker 5: remember watching the Brazil game and everyone was slipping, broken ankles.
- 17:16Speaker 5: The field was a mess. I don't know what I'm
- 17:17Speaker 5: going to see in this field in Australia. Is this
- 17:21Speaker 5: game tomorrow? Is this game on Friday?
- 17:23Speaker 4: Is it set?
- 17:24Speaker 5: I don't even know what time this game is actually
- 17:26Speaker 5: being set on. This game reminds me of a dead
- 17:30Speaker 5: under type of game. Maybe both teams just, you know,
- 17:32Speaker 5: run the ball, get out, not get hurt type of game.
- 17:35Speaker 5: This game reminds me of a week, preseason week four
- 17:39Speaker 5: type of game.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Ugly.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Tell me if I'm wrong here.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Why do the Ravens minus three and a half at
- 17:43Speaker 3: the Colts feel like a slam dunk for the Baltimore Ravens?
- 17:46Speaker 2: That totals at 48. Or am I missing something in
- 17:48Speaker 2: this game?
- 17:49Speaker 5: You're not missing anything because I think Baltimore is overrated
- 17:52Speaker 5: this year. I got the Bengals. I got the Bengals
- 17:54Speaker 5: to win the division. I think Pittsburgh this week, I
- 17:58Speaker 5: think they get the W against Atlanta and Tua at quarterback.
- 18:03Speaker 5: I think they can be a surprising team, but I'm
- 18:05Speaker 5: not sold on Baltimore. Lamar Jackson, if he really, really
- 18:09Speaker 5: wanted to stay there, he's his own agent. If he
- 18:12Speaker 5: really wanted to say that he would have signed a
- 18:14Speaker 5: contract by now or something or do something, I don't.
- 18:17Speaker 5: And then you got King Henry. Last time I checked,
- 18:19Speaker 5: you get older when you wake up, not younger. So
- 18:22Speaker 5: he's an older back. I'm not sold on Baltimore.
- 18:24Speaker 4: I like the Colts.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Are you surprised Buffalo is only a one-point favorite at Houston?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Total 44 and a half.
- 18:31Speaker 4: No, here's another guy.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I'm not– I am Buffalo. Their Super Bowl aspirations are done.
- 18:36Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Mafia, Bulls Mafia, but they're done. I mean,
- 18:40Speaker 5: you had– you had last year. You didn't have Patrick Mahomes.
- 18:43Speaker 5: That was your year. And you– sorry, part of my friends,
- 18:47Speaker 5: you shit the bed. So, no, I think they're done
- 18:49Speaker 5: as well. You have a new stadium. Okay, good luck
- 18:53Speaker 5: in a new stadium. You're not going anywhere.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Let's look down through here. Saints, can they cover that?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Seven-point dog, one of the biggest lines of the weekend.
- 19:01Speaker 3: The other biggest line is Cleveland is an eight-and-a-half-point dog
- 19:04Speaker 3: at Jacksonville.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Can the Saints cover this line at Detroit? Totals at 50.
- 19:07Speaker 5: I think they can. Detroit, a lot of new faces
- 19:10Speaker 5: on offense. They're missing their one-two punch in the backfield
- 19:14Speaker 5: with the trade that happened over the summer. I think
- 19:17Speaker 5: the Saints can keep it close. I have the Lions
- 19:19Speaker 5: winning by four, like a 24-20 type of game.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield on a new contract. They're a three-and-a-half-point underdog
- 19:26Speaker 2: at Cincinnati, minus three-and-a-half. Total's at 50 and a half.
- 19:30Speaker 2: You said you like Cincinnati this year.
- 19:32Speaker 5: I do, as long as they stay healthy. I think
- 19:34Speaker 5: if Burrow can stay healthy, they win the division. Now,
- 19:37Speaker 5: if it's like last year and the year before where
- 19:39Speaker 5: he can't stay healthy, then I think it's wide open
- 19:42Speaker 5: for Pittsburgh and Baltimore. But if they're healthy, I think
- 19:46Speaker 5: their defense is going to be, I'm not saying much improved.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I think underperformed.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Little improved then I think they can stick around I
- 19:54Speaker 5: kind of like Cincinnati I want to see Tampa yes
- 19:56Speaker 5: their offense has some weapons now Baker I got his contract,
- 20:01Speaker 5: but I really wanted to see a chip Baker. I
- 20:03Speaker 5: wanted to see a chip on his shoulder play. Now
- 20:05Speaker 5: he's got his bag. So how is he going to
- 20:07Speaker 5: play now? I was really hoping he didn't get that contract.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I thought he'd be a really good quarterback this year,
- 20:12Speaker 5: showing something he had improved.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Maybe the game of the weekend, maybe Packers Vikings in Minnesota,
- 20:19Speaker 3: JJ McCarthy, the greatest producer in the world. Beaver was
- 20:22Speaker 3: giving me all kinds of flack about this McCarthy going
- 20:24Speaker 3: to third string. Cause I was sold on JJ McCarthy
- 20:26Speaker 3: when he came out of Michigan. I showed him a clip.
- 20:29Speaker 3: He threw an awesome pass at a hotel lobby.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I was like, look at that. That's an NFL quarterback.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He's third string.
- 20:34Speaker 3: But nonetheless, the Packers are one and a half point
- 20:37Speaker 3: dog at the Vikings this weekend.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Total 46.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Maybe Lane Kiffin should call him and see if he
- 20:42Speaker 5: has any eligibility.
- 20:44Speaker 4: But yeah, I agree.
- 20:45Speaker 5: I was a little bit shocked that he's third string.
- 20:47Speaker 5: But at the same time, you know who I have
- 20:49Speaker 5: winning the division? Tennessee North. I got the Vikings winning it.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I think Kyler Murray is the Sam Donald Wolf. a
- 20:55Speaker 5: healthier hip than Sam Donald if you're watching the game
- 20:59Speaker 5: right now. I like the Vikings, and I like the
- 21:00Speaker 5: Vikings in the spot. I'm not sold on Green Bay.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Philly, a five-point favorite against the Washington Commanders, a total
- 21:08Speaker 3: of 44.5.
- 21:08Speaker 2: What kind of Philly team are we going to see
- 21:10Speaker 2: this year? What kind of Washington team will we see?
- 21:12Speaker 5: Both teams have massive question marks. Philly has question marks.
- 21:15Speaker 5: If they lose all of a sudden, do they fire
- 21:17Speaker 5: their head coach? I mean, they didn't really do anything
- 21:20Speaker 5: on their offensive side of the ball. Washington, they didn't
- 21:24Speaker 5: do anything on the defensive side of the ball. So
- 21:27Speaker 5: it is huge question marks.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I like the Eagles. They're at home.
- 21:30Speaker 5: You're laying a soft number. Shop around four and a
- 21:33Speaker 5: half are out there. So make sure you get a
- 21:35Speaker 5: better number than five and a half. But I like
- 21:38Speaker 5: the Eagles at this spot.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Patch on Facebook says Cowboys to the Super Bowl.
- 21:43Speaker 1: How about that?
- 21:44Speaker 3: Cowboys minus three at the New York Giants. Totals at 48.
- 21:49Speaker 2: How serious are we taking the Cowboys to the Super Bowl?
- 21:51Speaker 4: You should be very serious.
- 21:53Speaker 5: They win a division. They have one of the best offenses.
- 21:56Speaker 5: I love them this week on the road against the
- 22:00Speaker 5: Giants because every time I blink my eye, the Giants
- 22:03Speaker 5: quarterback or running backs in the blue tent. So they
- 22:05Speaker 5: can't stay healthy. I like Dallas. I think they win
- 22:08Speaker 5: a division. I'm not sold on giving them the Super Bowl.
- 22:12Speaker 5: I think they have a very good shot of getting there.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I have them just winning the division. I think that's
- 22:18Speaker 5: a good shot just in general. But if they're going
- 22:22Speaker 5: to make some noise, this is it. And I think
- 22:24Speaker 5: they're going to make a big trade this season to
- 22:26Speaker 5: improve that defense.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Raiders.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Hey, we'll get one more in here and get you
- 22:31Speaker 2: on your way.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Denver at Kansas City, the return of Patrick Mahomes, KC
- 22:35Speaker 3: minus 2.5. Totals at 43.5. Mahomes is back. Kelsey one
- 22:41Speaker 3: more time. Can they recreate magic?
- 22:45Speaker 5: Everyone knows I do a show called coaching company with
- 22:48Speaker 5: Jonathan Coachman used to work for WWE sports center and
- 22:51Speaker 5: all that. He's a huge Kansas city fan. And I
- 22:53Speaker 5: have to do the Monday night grind. We do a
- 22:56Speaker 5: show right before Monday night football kicks off. And so
- 22:58Speaker 5: I'm going to have to hear him all show long at.
- 23:01Speaker 4: The Casey's bag. Patrick Mahomes is back. No, he's not.
- 23:05Speaker 1: They're old.
- 23:06Speaker 5: I mean, I don't like anything that they did offseason.
- 23:09Speaker 5: They did nothing, especially on that D side. Bo Nix
- 23:13Speaker 5: is healthy. Denver Broncos defense is really, really good. Travis
- 23:16Speaker 5: Kelsey just got married to one of the richest white
- 23:19Speaker 5: ladies you'll ever see and hear. What is his motivation
- 23:23Speaker 5: going to be like? I don't care if he's like, oh,
- 23:25Speaker 5: it's my last year. I want to go and I'm
- 23:26Speaker 5: on top. You're already on top. You married Taylor Swift.
- 23:29Speaker 5: It doesn't matter what you do in football. He can,
- 23:33Speaker 5: he can be the quarterback throw for 300 yards, catch
- 23:36Speaker 5: for 200 yards and rush for two touchdowns. And he
- 23:39Speaker 5: still won't be famous, more famous than his wife.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Very good.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Hey, as far as I tell everybody where they can
- 23:44Speaker 3: find you.
- 23:44Speaker 5: You can find me on exit besides exports. You can
- 23:48Speaker 5: find me on Instagram at Raphael Esparza, and you can
- 23:50Speaker 5: find me on your show tomorrow.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Tomorrow.
- 23:53Speaker 2: We'll talk to you more, brother. Appreciate it.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Take it easy.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Thanks so much. Bradley Esparza on.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Your screen tonight. We appreciate him jumping in here as
- 24:02Speaker 3: we move along. We're going to get Joseph Lissy in
- 24:04Speaker 3: here in just a bit. We're going to remind you
- 24:08Speaker 3: that use the.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Promo code patio and hit the promo code at the top.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And let's go ahead and bring in Joseph Lissy right
- 24:15Speaker 3: now as he's kind enough to give us some time
- 24:18Speaker 3: on a very busy schedule.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Joe, what's up, brother?
- 24:20Speaker 1: How you doing? Getting ready, Jake. This is it.
- 24:23Speaker 6: The calm before the storm midweek. We got week two
- 24:25Speaker 6: on the horizon and separation Saturday outside the Ohio State-Texas game.
- 24:31Speaker 6: A lot of good action at 12 o'clock. We have
- 24:34Speaker 6: the Oklahoma-Michigan game. We have Arizona State-A&M. I'm curious to
- 24:38Speaker 6: see how those games play out on Saturday afternoon.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I love the LSU helmet in the background. Let's
- 24:44Speaker 3: talk about them first. Last week, you know, outside of
- 24:48Speaker 3: everything with the SEC, we've already gone down that road.
- 24:51Speaker 2: LSU, are they as good as we saw or is
- 24:53Speaker 2: Clemson just that bad?
- 24:55Speaker 1: I think it's a little bit of both.
- 24:56Speaker 6: I think offensively it's a significant upgrade where Lane Kiffin
- 25:00Speaker 6: has this offense with Sam Leavitt. And you look at
- 25:03Speaker 6: last year, I mean, Garrett Nussmeier, whether he was hurt, Jake,
- 25:07Speaker 6: or not, again, we have mixed reviews on what the
- 25:11Speaker 6: real situation was. you know, when he came out, you know,
- 25:14Speaker 6: in fall camp and played that week one game against Clemson,
- 25:17Speaker 6: but the rushing attack with Caden Dorman, Holland Brary and
- 25:21Speaker 6: Caleb Jackson last year was inconsistent. You look at Jones,
- 25:24Speaker 6: you look at the offensive line, you look at Levitt's
- 25:27Speaker 6: ability to put pressure on opposing defenses. And in that game,
- 25:31Speaker 6: I mean, if they put up 644 yards of total
- 25:34Speaker 6: offense each and every week in the SEC, they're going
- 25:37Speaker 6: to be very difficult. I told you this big picture.
- 25:40Speaker 6: I'm worried about mobile quarterbacks. I've seen Blake Baker's defense over-pursue.
- 25:45Speaker 6: They get burned by Diego Pavia, Marcel Reed, Jalen Milrow, Chambers.
- 25:50Speaker 6: I mean, Lenora Sellers in one game. So I would
- 25:53Speaker 6: say pump the brakes. Offensively, good. Much, much improved defensively.
- 25:58Speaker 6: But defensively, we'll see how good they are September 19th
- 26:02Speaker 6: in Oxford when they face the best quarterback, I believe,
- 26:06Speaker 6: in the conference in Trinidad-Chambers.
- 26:07Speaker 3: All right, let's get your thoughts. Stay with the college game.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Let me go back over here and look at some
- 26:13Speaker 3: of these games. And, of course, feel free to, if
- 26:15Speaker 3: you want to throw some betting advice, you can do that.
- 26:16Speaker 3: I know you're big into that like I am. But
- 26:19Speaker 3: when you look at Friday night, Missouri is at Kansas.
- 26:22Speaker 3: We've got an old Big 12 throwback. Missouri's slight favorite, 5.5,
- 26:25Speaker 3: is what I'm.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Looking at, pin gaming. That totals at 53. You know,
- 26:29Speaker 2: I thought Austin Simmons played well in his first game. Kansas,
- 26:32Speaker 2: they put a lot of money into their program. It
- 26:34Speaker 2: hasn't materialized yet. Who do you like in this old
- 26:36Speaker 2: Big 12 matchup?
- 26:37Speaker 6: I mean, I lean to Missouri. They've won four straight
- 26:40Speaker 6: in the series. They won last year, I believe, by 11.
- 26:42Speaker 6: What was it, 51 to 41 or 53-41? They put
- 26:46Speaker 6: up a 50 spot. It was probably one of the
- 26:49Speaker 6: better games of Bo Pribula in that offense last year.
- 26:52Speaker 6: rolling against Kansas. But Austin Simmons, I think, could be
- 26:57Speaker 6: the guy. Meaning, like, he's an under-the-radar guy. I keep
- 27:00Speaker 6: telling everybody, last year they thought with Lane Kiffin, he
- 27:03Speaker 6: was going to be Heisman Trophy winner.
- 27:06Speaker 1: He gets banged up against Arkansas.
- 27:08Speaker 6: And then it goes Trinidad-Chambers, you know, right to basically
- 27:12Speaker 6: the college football semifinal. But outside of last year's game,
- 27:16Speaker 6: they haven't played each and every year, as you know.
- 27:19Speaker 6: So it's a rivalry game that always scares me. I
- 27:22Speaker 6: would lean to the speed of Missouri, and I like
- 27:24Speaker 6: Austin Simmons, but it's not one of my better picks.
- 27:27Speaker 6: I mean, I lean Missouri. I like Drinkowitz. I like
- 27:30Speaker 6: the team overall. I like the defense. And if they
- 27:33Speaker 6: get that rushing attack going, it's going to be very difficult.
- 27:36Speaker 6: But again, rivalry games with five and a half, they
- 27:39Speaker 6: always scare me with that number.
- 27:41Speaker 3: All right, let's move to Saturday. Look, you wake up
- 27:44Speaker 3: with coffee right after game day. You're going to get
- 27:46Speaker 3: Oklahoma at Michigan. You know, we could talk a little
- 27:49Speaker 3: bit if you want to expand on, you know, the
- 27:50Speaker 3: whole clock fiasco. But the big thing is Bryce Underwood
- 27:53Speaker 3: did not look good, and he has not looked good.
- 27:55Speaker 3: And his coach came out today and said– or this
- 27:58Speaker 3: week and said, hey, look– and I'm paraphrasing. At some
- 28:00Speaker 3: point we've got to have, you know, diminishing returns. We've
- 28:03Speaker 3: got to have a return on investment.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:05Speaker 2: And he was asked about it. He's like, I didn't
- 28:07Speaker 2: know anything about it. That's cool.
- 28:09Speaker 3: We're in a weird space that we may see a
- 28:11Speaker 3: coach have to bench– and I'm not pulling for this–
- 28:15Speaker 3: have to bench a $ 3 million quarterback. you know, propped
- 28:18Speaker 3: up by Portnoy and Barstool money and all of this.
- 28:21Speaker 3: He's going up against a defense that's really, really good
- 28:24Speaker 3: on Saturday.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Who do you like?
- 28:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I lean Oklahoma. Again, I don't love it.
- 28:28Speaker 6: This line was two and a half all offseason in
- 28:32Speaker 6: favor of Michigan. Then he comes out and they basically
- 28:35Speaker 6: lose that game to Western Michigan. Terrible call. They get
- 28:38Speaker 6: the Hail Mary. That's all well and good. But they
- 28:41Speaker 6: only threw for 170 yards in that matchup. And if
- 28:44Speaker 6: you look at last year's performances... As a freshman, every
- 28:48Speaker 6: time they didn't run the football, Jake, they lost games.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Their four losses last year, Michigan rushed for 132.9 points
- 28:57Speaker 6: per game. They basically lost those games by double digits.
- 29:00Speaker 6: They got blown out by USC and other teams when
- 29:03Speaker 6: they couldn't pound the rock. And what's the strength of Oklahoma?
- 29:06Speaker 6: They're going to force Underwood to potentially throw over the top,
- 29:09Speaker 6: stack the box. you know, guard the edges and see
- 29:13Speaker 6: if he can go downfield. And I talked about it
- 29:16Speaker 6: with Coach Bowden today. I said, you know, could they really,
- 29:20Speaker 6: like in third down situations, is Michigan going to roll
- 29:24Speaker 6: out the pocket?
- 29:24Speaker 1: What if it's third and eight?
- 29:25Speaker 6: You can't allow him to stand back there and be
- 29:28Speaker 6: blitzed because he's not polished with the reads and progressions.
- 29:32Speaker 6: And Coach said he'd be more aggressive on first and
- 29:35Speaker 6: second down. I think that's the case. But, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 6: the problem is winning him in these situations He's a
- 29:30Speaker 6: very conservative coach. He's not aggressive as you would think.
- 29:48Speaker 6: It's a tough matchup because, again, you go to the stats.
- 29:51Speaker 6: 8-0 Michigan was every time they rushed for over 200 yards, right?
- 29:56Speaker 1: And they were dominant.
- 29:57Speaker 6: They won by basically 15, 16.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Points per game.
- 30:01Speaker 6: They ain't getting 200 on Oklahoma. And so that leads
- 30:05Speaker 6: to the factor of what do they need to score?
- 30:08Speaker 6: They lost that game in Norman last year, 24-13. And
- 30:12Speaker 6: so we'll chalk it up, first road start, non-conference game,
- 30:18Speaker 6: But they're going to bring it. And if we're talking
- 30:20Speaker 6: Mateer and we're talking Underwood, which guy can handle the pressure?
- 30:26Speaker 6: It's Mateer to me. And Mateer went into Knoxville. Mateer
- 30:29Speaker 6: went into Tuscaloosa. And this team pulled out two late
- 30:32Speaker 6: victories at the end of the year. Again, I like Oklahoma.
- 30:36Speaker 6: I don't love it, though. The line does scare me.
- 30:38Speaker 6: We've had such an overreaction of seven points that, to me,
- 30:42Speaker 6: it's Oklahoma and I lean to the under. But, again,
- 30:45Speaker 6: not one of my better picks for the weekend.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Oregon should win.
- 30:49Speaker 3: They're a big favorite against Oklahoma State, 23 points. That
- 30:52Speaker 3: totaled 57.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Were you surprised?
- 30:54Speaker 1: I was not.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Boise played them well. I mean, they scared the daylights
- 30:57Speaker 2: out of them again, and they've done that before.
- 30:58Speaker 1: They have.
- 30:59Speaker 6: And, again, I was shocked by how close that game
- 31:02Speaker 6: was and Madsen having success early. And from a physicality perspective,
- 31:07Speaker 6: we saw interior line play for Boise go toe-to-toe, even
- 31:11Speaker 6: though they were undermanned. Again, I didn't expect that. I
- 31:15Speaker 6: did expect Tulsa to knock off Oak State. And I
- 31:18Speaker 6: said all offseason that that line would be if Tulsa
- 31:22Speaker 6: knocked off Oak State, Oregon in the offseason was 17
- 31:26Speaker 6: and a half point favorites.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I thought Oregon would blow out Boise.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Tulsa would knock off Oak State and we would get
- 31:32Speaker 6: to 22 and a half. Well, Oregon got pushed to
- 31:35Speaker 6: the limit. It didn't matter because the overreaction on Oak
- 31:38Speaker 6: State is that they stink. And that might be the case.
- 31:41Speaker 6: But I still like Oak State with the points. I
- 31:44Speaker 6: do like them. Again, you look at Oregon's secondary, three
- 31:47Speaker 6: sophomores back there. Mestemaker looked terrible. That offense looked terrible.
- 31:53Speaker 6: But now at home, against a team that they got
- 31:55Speaker 6: abused with last year in Eugene, I think there's a
- 31:59Speaker 6: bounce-back spot. They don't have to win it. Just keep
- 32:01Speaker 6: it within three touchdowns. I think they can do that.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Texas A & M is a 14-point favorite of Arizona State.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Kenny Dillingham brings his team in. I still think they're
- 32:10Speaker 3: one of the better teams in the Big 12. Can
- 32:13Speaker 3: they keep this into the fourth quarter?
- 32:15Speaker 1: I think they could win it. How about that?
- 32:18Speaker 6: I really like Arizona State this weekend, and maybe I'm crazy.
- 32:22Speaker 6: I picked Arizona State as a sleeper. in the Big 12,
- 32:25Speaker 6: I think, you know, two things. Cutter Boley comes on.
- 32:28Speaker 6: I mean, they really played him late into that game, 387,
- 32:33Speaker 6: six touchdowns. I think they needed that to go on
- 32:36Speaker 6: this road game. You want a quarterback that's confident, even
- 32:39Speaker 6: though obviously it's an FCS opponent. You wanted to build
- 32:43Speaker 6: that confidence going into Kyle Field up against one of
- 32:46Speaker 6: the best third-down defenses, the best last year in.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Texas A & M. Here's the thing.
- 32:52Speaker 6: I think it's just a complete overreaction. SEC, Big 12,
- 32:56Speaker 6: and so we see the 14.5 point number. Now, if
- 32:59Speaker 6: you look at the dominance by A & M, last
- 33:02Speaker 6: year they were 7-1. They won the FBS games by
- 33:06Speaker 6: like 14.5 points per game. So we're right on the
- 33:09Speaker 6: number of what they did against FBS guys. I take
- 33:15Speaker 6: the non-conference games out because it skews the stats. We're
- 33:18Speaker 6: right on the number. I'll take I think Arizona State's
- 33:22Speaker 6: a lot better than people think. And from a physicality perspective,
- 33:26Speaker 6: they are built more like an SEC team than they
- 33:28Speaker 6: are a Big 12 team. They're physical. I think they
- 33:31Speaker 6: can make it a four-quarter game. And as long as
- 33:34Speaker 6: Boley's clean with the football, it wouldn't shock me if
- 33:37Speaker 6: we go into this fourth quarter, eight minutes left, we're
- 33:39Speaker 6: tied or we're a field goal or a touchdown away.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Hey, Alabama, they looked good. Still need a run game.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Good quarterback.
- 33:48Speaker 3: They go to Kentucky. Kenny Minchie threw four touchdowns over
- 33:52Speaker 3: the weekend. Can Kentucky press them into the fourth quarter?
- 33:55Speaker 1: I think they can. Here's the thing.
- 33:57Speaker 6: So the stats are skewed totally. I mean, since Saban
- 34:01Speaker 6: was there, right, they had won eight straight against Kentucky.
- 34:05Speaker 6: They had won the last four up until 2023 when
- 34:08Speaker 6: the last time they played, Jake, by 39.2 points per game.
- 34:12Speaker 6: I mean, it wasn't even close. And that was with
- 34:14Speaker 6: better teams. You know, they had some good teams at Kentucky.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Remember when Terry Wilson and all those Kentucky teams, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 6: when they knocked off Florida in the swamp, they had
- 34:25Speaker 6: some good talent and they still got blown out by
- 34:27Speaker 6: Nick Saban in Alabama. Here's the problem. I believe, look,
- 34:32Speaker 6: they rushed for 201 last week. Kentucky did on Youngstown State.
- 34:37Speaker 6: They're going to need a similar type of effectiveness on
- 34:41Speaker 6: the ground. But Boley looked clean with the foot, not Boley,
- 34:44Speaker 6: excuse me. Mincy looked clean with the football. And here's
- 34:47Speaker 6: the other thing. When you look at Bama's road performances
- 34:50Speaker 6: under Kalen DeBoer, straight up, they're 7-7 in his two
- 34:54Speaker 6: years there. And if you look at, like, last year's games,
- 34:57Speaker 6: lose to Florida State on the road, right, 13.5 points.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Favorite. They lose.
- 35:02Speaker 6: They beat Georgia. That was their claim to fame because
- 35:04Speaker 6: they were dogs in that matchup and knocked off Georgia
- 35:08Speaker 6: with the 33-game home winning streak. Push against Missouri. They
- 35:12Speaker 6: win that game by three. They get pushed to the
- 35:14Speaker 6: limit by both Auburn And South Carolina, they covered against
- 35:19Speaker 6: Auburn by a point and a half. They didn't cover
- 35:21Speaker 6: against South Carolina with 15 and a half, 16-point favorites.
- 35:24Speaker 6: They won it by seven points. The body of work
- 35:28Speaker 6: is like their margin of victory on the road under
- 35:30Speaker 6: Kalen DeBoer in true road performances last year.
- 35:33Speaker 1: They were 5-1. They won by six points per game.
- 35:37Speaker 1: It's a conference game with Kalen Russell.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Look, again, I don't love this game, but if you're
- 35:42Speaker 6: asking me, Joe, I would take the points with Kentucky.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I agree with you. I agree with you.
- 35:46Speaker 3: And that's great, great insight on Kellen DeBoer on the
- 35:49Speaker 3: road in the SEC. Got a big one in the
- 35:51Speaker 3: Big 12. Arizona at BYU. They're the 15th best team
- 35:54Speaker 3: in the country. BYU minus 7.5. Totals at 48. Two
- 35:58Speaker 3: really good quarterbacks led by Bear Buckmeyer, one of the
- 36:03Speaker 3: best names in college football.
- 36:05Speaker 4: It is.
- 36:06Speaker 6: I just think BYU is too physical for them at home.
- 36:09Speaker 6: I think they dominate this game.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I really do. I think the 7, 7.5.
- 36:14Speaker 6: You're going to have a lot of people taking Noah
- 36:15Speaker 6: Fafita in Arizona. Last year, Brett Brennan did a fantastic job.
- 36:22Speaker 6: They were a 9-5 football team. I think they're outmanned
- 36:26Speaker 6: in Pro Bowl. I really do. I think L.J. Morton,
- 36:29Speaker 6: the rushing attack, get going. I think they dominate. I
- 36:31Speaker 6: think BYU wins this game by 14 or more, and
- 36:34Speaker 6: it's not even close.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Kamario Taylor showed out against an inferior opponent. They go
- 36:39Speaker 2: to Minnesota. It's a zero line. It's a push right now.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Who do you like?
- 36:43Speaker 3: Well, both teams really need this game before they head
- 36:46Speaker 3: into conference play.
- 36:47Speaker 6: Yeah, again, which team runs the football better? Is it
- 36:50Speaker 6: Miss State or is it Minnesota? I like Darius Taylor.
- 36:53Speaker 6: I think Minnesota, to me, Jake, and we talked about this,
- 36:57Speaker 6: is much more physical. They're more blue-collar than Miss State,
- 37:01Speaker 6: and that's not a knock on the Bulldogs. It's just
- 37:04Speaker 6: statistically they lost 8-9 down the stretch, right? They lost
- 37:08Speaker 6: those games by 14.2 points per game yesterday. Now, last
- 37:12Speaker 6: year they allowed 188 yards on the ground. A lot
- 37:15Speaker 6: of that was in conference play, but Minnesota has a
- 37:18Speaker 6: heavy offensive line. I think Drake Lindsey is one of
- 37:21Speaker 6: the up-and-comers in the Big Ten. You'll hear about him
- 37:24Speaker 6: more as the season progresses. And Fleck versus Jeff Lebby,
- 37:30Speaker 6: I think Fleck's the more consistent coach playing at home.
- 37:33Speaker 6: Pick him, I think Minnesota wins it by a field
- 37:37Speaker 6: goal or more.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Let's grab a couple more here, and then I've got
- 37:40Speaker 3: a couple more things I'm going to ask you about.
- 37:41Speaker 3: I appreciate you joining us tonight. Tennessee at Georgia Tech.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Georgia Tech, of course, whiffed last week against Colorado. Big
- 37:49Speaker 3: win for Deion Sanders. Tennessee's a 12-and-a-half-point favorite on the
- 37:52Speaker 3: road in Atlanta.
- 37:53Speaker 1: One of my better picks. I like G-Tech. Now, here's
- 37:55Speaker 1: the thing.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Faze and Brandon on the road, and Bobby Dodd, okay,
- 38:00Speaker 6: maybe not the toughest environments, maybe not even comparable to
- 38:04Speaker 6: anything you've seen in the SEC or will see. But
- 38:07Speaker 6: it's still a tough place to play. I know that
- 38:10Speaker 6: they got abused by Colorado, a smaller, quicker type of team.
- 38:15Speaker 6: And typically that's what Heupel might run with this offensive attack.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Faison was 226-3 and nothing clean with the football against Furman.
- 38:23Speaker 6: But here's the thing. When you look at Brent Key
- 38:26Speaker 6: and his career, ATS, as an underdog, he's 18-7. So, again,
- 38:32Speaker 6: as an underdog, he steps up in his career at
- 38:35Speaker 6: home in Bobby Dodd. against the number, as a dog,
- 38:39Speaker 6: he's 6-1. I think this is a huge bounce-back spot
- 38:42Speaker 6: for G-Tech. They got abused in a national primetime game.
- 38:46Speaker 6: They wore down. The defense wasn't physical. And I think
- 38:49Speaker 6: Alberto Mendoza, to me, played fantastic. I mean, you know,
- 38:53Speaker 6: he's not the same runner, obviously, as Haynes King, but
- 38:57Speaker 6: he has zip on the football. I think they're going
- 38:59Speaker 6: to be in this game. Again, Jake, don't be shocked
- 39:02Speaker 6: if they win it outright.
- 39:04Speaker 3: And, of course, the big one, Texas hosting Ohio State
- 39:08Speaker 3: this weekend. Texas a one-point favorite in Austin. Matthew McConaughey,
- 39:12Speaker 3: all the glam and glitz. Feels like there's more pressure
- 39:15Speaker 3: on Steve Sarkeesian than it would be Ryan Day in
- 39:17Speaker 3: this game. 14-7 ballgame last year at the shoot. Will
- 39:21Speaker 3: we see a similar game, or is it going to
- 39:22Speaker 3: be totally flipped?
- 39:23Speaker 2: It's at night. Could we see a shootout?
- 39:25Speaker 6: I think we get over the total. I think this
- 39:27Speaker 6: could be where Sayen and Arch E. a little, but
- 39:31Speaker 6: I don't, again, I don't see arch in Texas coming out. Now,
- 39:34Speaker 6: Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo broke out. I was on Texas.
- 39:38Speaker 6: They late 29 and a half, again, very inexperienced in
- 39:42Speaker 6: the secondary. The Texas state had two players from Liberty
- 39:45Speaker 6: that transferred in. Difficult matchup when you're going up against
- 39:49Speaker 6: those cats, right, that could just fly in Wingo and Coleman. But,
- 39:53Speaker 6: you know, what do you have to do on the road?
- 39:55Speaker 6: You have to run the football and win the turnover battle,
- 39:57Speaker 6: and that's where I give the edge to Ohio State.
- 40:00Speaker 6: I like Bo Jackson. I like the offensive line. And
- 40:03Speaker 6: in these games, and you and I have talked about them,
- 40:05Speaker 6: with Texas in a step-up spot, they get manhandled in
- 40:09Speaker 6: the interior. They can never run the football consistently. In
- 40:12Speaker 6: three games against the Bulldogs, right, SEC Championship, Two years ago,
- 40:17Speaker 6: Trevor Etienne is still running. And then obviously last year
- 40:20Speaker 6: in Athens, I worry about that. And again, I'm not
- 40:24Speaker 6: buying into the hype. I'm looking at the X's and O's.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Which is the more physical team in the interior? I
- 40:28Speaker 6: still think it's Ohio State. You still have the best player, potentially.
- 40:32Speaker 6: You want to give the edge, Coleman and Jeremiah Smith.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Body of work, Jeremiah Smith over Coleman.
- 40:38Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 40:39Speaker 6: Let everybody talk about Arch because I think there's more
- 40:41Speaker 6: pressure on Arch. And Sainz still completed 73% of his passes.
- 40:46Speaker 6: I will just say this. If Texas is going to win,
- 40:49Speaker 6: imperative that they run the football. I mean, Ohio State
- 40:53Speaker 6: held Ball State under 100 yards. They held 10 opponents
- 40:56Speaker 6: last year under 100. Nine FPS wins by 28.4 points
- 40:59Speaker 6: per game. The games that Ohio State struggled in or
- 41:05Speaker 6: where they lost, they got beat up by Miami, they
- 41:07Speaker 6: got beat up by Indiana, and there was success on
- 41:10Speaker 6: the ground. If you can't run it against Ohio State,
- 41:13Speaker 6: third and long, you're going to get killed by Patricia's defense.
- 41:17Speaker 6: I like Ohio State. Again, seven points. I think they
- 41:20Speaker 6: win it by a good game, but I like the Buckeyes.
- 41:23Speaker 6: I can't go against them in this spot.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Let's finish it up with this. Mike Norvell loses again
- 41:28Speaker 2: on Monday night.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:29Speaker 2: How big of a hole is he in?
- 41:32Speaker 1: A big one.
- 41:34Speaker 6: And, you know, you see Danny Connell and tweet now,
- 41:36Speaker 6: this is great. And I told Coach, you know, what
- 41:39Speaker 6: is Norvell doing? Look, I understand you want to run
- 41:42Speaker 6: the football. I get that. But when you look at
- 41:45Speaker 6: the weakness of SMU last year, they allowed 283 passing
- 41:50Speaker 6: yards per game.
- 41:51Speaker 1: In their four losses, Jake, they.
- 41:53Speaker 6: Allowed 341 through the air and allowed 14 touchdowns, two interceptions.
- 41:58Speaker 1: You got a couple of good runs.
- 42:00Speaker 6: The times that you allowed Ashton Daniels to cook down
- 42:03Speaker 6: the field, you had success.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Why he was playing it, it's so....
- 42:10Speaker 6: It's the identity of a coach that has got alligator arms.
- 42:13Speaker 6: He's afraid to take risks. He wants to play it
- 42:16Speaker 6: close to the vest. And instead of winning that game,
- 42:19Speaker 6: let's say 40-20, he loses it 27-24 because he wanted
- 42:23Speaker 6: to run the football, play for field goals and not touchdowns.
- 42:27Speaker 1: And again.
- 42:28Speaker 6: You can't win in today's college football without an aggressive offense.
- 42:32Speaker 6: The only way you could do that is if you
- 42:34Speaker 6: have a top five defense and number one in turnover margin,
- 42:38Speaker 6: like Indiana was last year. And they had the best
- 42:41Speaker 6: third down conversion rate from an offensive perspective.
- 42:44Speaker 1: They didn't convert. What are they? Three of 13 on
- 42:47Speaker 1: third down conversions. You're not going to win. You're not
- 42:49Speaker 1: going to win in today's game like that.
- 42:51Speaker 2: No, you're not.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Make sure to get him a go for the two
- 42:54Speaker 3: on X. Check him out on Sirius XM. Also other
- 42:56Speaker 3: great shows as well. Joseph, appreciate you, brother, as always.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Look, enjoy this week. Let's do it again next week.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Love the show, Jake. Great luck. Wish you
- 43:04Speaker 1: the best, and love talking ball week. Absolutely.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Joseph Lissy on your screen.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Real quickly, let's go through some of the biggest matchups
- 43:13Speaker 3: in high school football coming up this weekend. Brookhaven is
- 43:15Speaker 3: at Madison Central. Boy, what a game this is going
- 43:18Speaker 3: to be. Brookhaven's 2-0, Madison Central 1-1. Madison Central, they've
- 43:23Speaker 3: got to really get the ball moving on the run game.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Look for them to possibly get a short win here,
- 43:28Speaker 3: short meaning 28-27, 30-27. Warren Central at Germantown should be
- 43:33Speaker 3: a shootout this weekend. I edge Warren Central for this one.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Hattiesburg at Oak Grove, both teams at 1-1. I like
- 43:38Speaker 3: Oak Grove to win this game by a touchdown. Columbia
- 43:41Speaker 3: at Petal this weekend. Petal's off to a 2-0 start.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Columbia 1-1. I like Petal to get to 3-0. Petal
- 43:48Speaker 2: with a big win this weekend.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Knoxville County, 2-0 at West Point, 0-2. But I like
- 43:54Speaker 3: West Point to bounce back this week. I like West
- 43:56Speaker 3: Point to win this weekend by a touchdown. Laurel, 1-1,
- 44:00Speaker 3: goes down to Gulfport, 1-0. Give me Gulfport as the
- 44:04Speaker 3: Admirals continue to roll under Blake Pinnock. I think they
- 44:07Speaker 3: win big, 35-20. Brandon Schills does as well. Clarksdale at Charleston,
- 44:13Speaker 3: that's 1-1 at 2-0. I like Clarksdale to win. You've
- 44:16Speaker 3: got PCS at Pass Christiane. Both teams are 2-0 down
- 44:19Speaker 3: on the south side of the state. I like Pass
- 44:22Speaker 3: Christiane to win this ballgame by a couple of scores.
- 44:24Speaker 3: South Delta at LaFleur, small-time football, 1A football. South Delta
- 44:29Speaker 3: and LaFleur both 2-0. Give me LaFleur County to win
- 44:32Speaker 3: this ballgame. Jackson Prep 3-0 at Tri-County, 2-0. I think
- 44:36Speaker 3: there's just too much firepower at Jackson Prep. They move
- 44:39Speaker 3: to 4-0. Give me Prep winning the ballgame. We appreciate
- 44:43Speaker 3: Joseph Lissy jumping in. We appreciate you guys watching tonight.
