- 0:30Hi, oh, he's got his deep voice on today.
- 0:34Hello.
- 0:35All right, Brad, kick us off and
- 0:39welcome to Drive-through episode number 56.
- 0:43This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive motorsport
- 0:48and entertaining car adjacent news.
- 0:51Now let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:54I don't know if this is gonna be entertaining or not.
- 0:56We have such a somber topic to talk about, but it is at the top of everybody's mind.
- 1:01Is it top of mind?
- 1:03Somebody's entertained by this.
- 1:05What could it be?
- 1:05I don't know anybody that isn't affected by this, so, so what Now
- 1:09we're gonna talk about tariffs.
- 1:10Tariff play.
- 1:11More specifically, the trouble with tariffs.
- 1:13The trouble they're causing us.
- 1:15Isn't there a song The Trouble Gets Me Down or something?
- 1:19I thought it was Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
- 1:21No, there's that, but there's another one.
- 1:26The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round and round and round.
- 1:34I mean, if you listen to Clarkson, what is that song?
- 1:36The Thrill is Gone.
- 1:37Right?
- 1:37He keeps saying he's so done with cars and he is done with
- 1:40cars and he's done with cars.
- 1:42He's been saying that for how many seasons now.
- 1:44I know, but there is a resurgence coming, right?
- 1:46I hear the.
- 1:47Hammond and May are getting back together to do some stuff.
- 1:49Oh yeah.
- 1:49It already premiered.
- 1:50Oh, excellent.
- 1:51Well, we'll talk about that next month because this time we're gonna
- 1:54talk about other buffoons and clowns.
- 1:56I've been directly affected by the tariffs and duties basically on Canada.
- 2:01I bought a pair of sweatpants from a company in Canada.
- 2:04I didn't realize they were in Canada, and they shipped them to me and they arrived.
- 2:09But UPS would not give them to me unless I paid $70 in duty tax.
- 2:13Holy crap.
- 2:16So I said, you can go pound sand and you can leave and go and take
- 2:20them and send them back to Canada.
- 2:22'cause I, I don't fucking want 'em.
- 2:23I'm not paying more than I paid for the pants in duties.
- 2:27Uh, and then I immediately got on the chat with the company because
- 2:31they don't have a, a telephone.
- 2:33They said, oh no, no, no.
- 2:34You're not supposed to pay those.
- 2:35You know, I'm glad you didn't.
- 2:36You know they're gonna send the pants back to us if you still want them.
- 2:39We'll send 'em back out, whatever they receive the pants.
- 2:42They allegedly paid the duties.
- 2:44They sent them back to me.
- 2:45I proceed to get a bill from UPS for $70 after I received the pants
- 2:53and it was you mother farmers.
- 2:55I got back on the horn with the company and I said, Hey, what's going on here?
- 2:59They said, oh, send us the bill, we'll pay it.
- 3:01And then they did.
- 3:02They honored it.
- 3:03You know, they, they told me they were gonna pay it and they paid it.
- 3:05You were the last person they honored it for though.
- 3:07Probably.
- 3:08And I will not buy anything from them for the next four years because
- 3:12until all this crap is fixed.
- 3:14Let me ask you, was that a direct purchase with a Canadian company
- 3:17or did you go through like Amazon or one of the other online?
- 3:21Oh no, it was direct through their website.
- 3:23Okay.
- 3:23'cause I was getting a little skid, you know, how I would order stuff
- 3:26from Amazon and don't think about it.
- 3:27We don't really know where it's coming from.
- 3:29Yeah, man.
- 3:30With the amount of brown boxes that show up on people's porches,
- 3:33can you imagine the bills?
- 3:34Woo.
- 3:35Yeah.
- 3:35You know, this came directly.
- 3:37I, I purchased it directly through their website.
- 3:40It was not Amazon or anything.
- 3:41Everything you order on Amazon comes from China.
- 3:43So what are people's bills looking like with 145?
- 3:46Well, I did notice some things on Amazon where it was like, I've
- 3:50ordered this before and now it's $200.
- 3:52Like, what happened?
- 3:54How is that even possible?
- 3:55Right.
- 3:56And I, and I go, oh yeah, tariff.
- 3:58I thought you were gonna tell me 'cause it was coming from Canada.
- 4:00What they were doing was shipping your sweatpants inside of a Chrysler Pacifica.
- 4:04Like that was the box.
- 4:05And then now you were stuck having to pay for a $45,000 van.
- 4:09No, no, no.
- 4:09What they did is they shipped the material.
- 4:11So they just shipped the yarn and a needle and thread.
- 4:14And I had to, I had to create my own sweatpants, but they
- 4:17gave me just enough material to make them to what I had ordered.
- 4:21So that's unreal.
- 4:24So I thought we could get away from it.
- 4:26I thought we could avoid talking about it, but this is all the news has been
- 4:31since April the third is tariffs.
- 4:32Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs.
- 4:33And obviously the automotive market is gonna be at the middle of that because
- 4:37are there any cars actually built in the United States anymore or are there
- 4:41parts built in the United States anymore?
- 4:44Right.
- 4:44And so this causes a huge, huge problems for those that are not up to speed.
- 4:48Let's do everything and get you up to speed.
- 4:50On tariffs.
- 4:52That's a six letter word.
- 4:53They must be driving Dodge Darts.
- 4:55No, there's plenty of old Dodge Darts left to go around
- 4:58'cause they're not up to speed.
- 5:00Uh uh uh uh.
- 5:02So if you missed Liberation Day, our president unveiled a sweeping 25% tariff
- 5:08on any car or part that isn't made in the United States regardless of its origin.
- 5:13So obviously this sense ripples through our community and many
- 5:16of the other communities as well.
- 5:18And so the first knee-jerk response to this was a bunch of
- 5:22letters to the government, please.
- 5:25Please don't do this to us, right, Lisa?
- 5:28I don't want some more.
- 5:29Do people actually read these letters that companies send?
- 5:32I mean, it's wonderful if you get a letter from Stellantis on Stellantis letterhead.
- 5:36That's something that, uh, that an intern wrote.
- 5:39Yeah.
- 5:39With chat, GPT, another intern read it and then filed it into circular repository.
- 5:44I mean, come on.
- 5:45Sounds like this is just kind of payback for the automotive
- 5:48bailout that happened years ago.
- 5:51I hadn't thought about that.
- 5:52But this is across the board.
- 5:54Remember, the tariffs are on everything, not just cars.
- 5:56So we're being very hypersensitive here.
- 5:59But with good reason.
- 6:00And you know, they should get very exact with words because words matter.
- 6:03And words matter only if you read them, legally speaking
- 6:07words matter very strongly.
- 6:09And to say anything is made in America in terms of cars is wildly inaccurate because
- 6:14there's no car that's made in America.
- 6:16'cause made in would presume that a hundred percent of the item is made in
- 6:21that country in which that is false.
- 6:23Nothing is made in the USA in terms of the cars.
- 6:25A hundred percent.
- 6:26Not even the Grand Tesla who claims that he is, that's not even a
- 6:29hundred percent made in America.
- 6:31They are assembled in America.
- 6:33Right.
- 6:33And therefore there are parts from other countries, which means.
- 6:36Your car price.
- 6:38Even an American car is going to go up because it's made of components
- 6:42that are going to be tariffed.
- 6:43But if you proclaim eminent domain on our north and southern
- 6:47neighbors, then it's America, right?
- 6:49Because Chryslers are being built in Canada and Fords
- 6:52are being built in Mexico.
- 6:53So it's just an annexation of all of the continent that way.
- 6:57It's made in America.
- 6:58You see it's made in North America.
- 7:01Well, there you go.
- 7:02There could be a legal loophole there.
- 7:09Does it have to be made in the United States?
- 7:11Because even South America is an America.
- 7:15It's not America, but it's an America.
- 7:17You gotta have the right, the proper inflection on that.
- 7:20America, you, you gotta get the Bama in there, the America,
- 7:24all that to say there are.
- 7:26Plant closures, there are layoffs.
- 7:29There are cars sitting at rail stations, at border crossings, at shipping depots.
- 7:36Everything's frozen.
- 7:37There are countless car manufacturers that have said, all right, America,
- 7:41let's see how this plays out.
- 7:43Audi's not bringing cars.
- 7:44Volkswagen stopped.
- 7:46Jaguar, you name it, no cars are moving.
- 7:48But then at the same time.
- 7:50You hear the reports of people like sales are climbing 'cause everyone's scrambling.
- 7:55'cause they did delay the tariffs on automotive.
- 7:58Everyone's like scrambling to buy a new car before it costs more.
- 8:01I feel like that's a marketing tactic too.
- 8:03Exactly.
- 8:04Stores closing soon.
- 8:06This is the last one.
- 8:07This is the last one we have.
- 8:08There's a guys about to buy it, you know he is right in the back room.
- 8:12I just got a call 20 minutes ago.
- 8:13They're on their way to see it.
- 8:14Right.
- 8:15Gimme a break.
- 8:16We'll never have another 2016 Dodge Dart.
- 8:19Yeah, that's right.
- 8:20And that's like the furniture store here in town that's been
- 8:22closing for the last five years.
- 8:23It's constantly a liquidation sale.
- 8:25I'm like.
- 8:25Just go outta business already.
- 8:27Nobody wants your furniture.
- 8:28It's like KISS has been on their, oh my God.
- 8:30Farewell tour for the last 25 years.
- 8:3325 years.
- 8:33I thought it was like 45 years at this point.
- 8:35Yeah, yeah.
- 8:36They started on their farewell tour and it's just, it's perpetually going.
- 8:39And right along with this, I heard a good one the other day.
- 8:42We had a meeting and one of the guys was saying that he was shopping for a new car.
- 8:45And I'm thinking to myself, man, this has gotta be the worst
- 8:47time to be buying a new car.
- 8:49And it's the typical new dad, new kid, gotta buy the big vehicle.
- 8:54Gotta be safe.
- 8:55You know, the whole excuses that we make for buying like a suburban
- 8:58or an expedition or whatever, the biggest land yacht we can find.
- 9:01And I was like, okay, fine.
- 9:02I'm just going along with this story.
- 9:03I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:04Get to the point.
- 9:05Much like everybody's saying right now, you won't believe this.
- 9:08And he goes, I used to sell cars when I was younger, you know, he was getting,
- 9:11you know, into a sales position.
- 9:13And he goes, I know all the tricks to Tanya's point.
- 9:15You know, I got a guy outta the line and they're coming later and
- 9:17blah, blah, blah, this bullshit.
- 9:19And he goes, what I wasn't ready for was.
- 9:22What the dealer was doing to the destination fees and the markups.
- 9:28They were marking up cars that are sitting on the lot.
- 9:32Hell, hell yeah.
- 9:32As tariff vehicles.
- 9:34Hell yeah.
- 9:35He told the guy straight up, this car is here.
- 9:37It was built a year ago.
- 9:39Hell yeah.
- 9:40How can you hit me with tariffs?
- 9:42It's like, makes no sense.
- 9:43So the dealerships have already started this.
- 9:45Gaming of the system and gouging of the consumer.
- 9:49And I'm like, unless you need a car right now, don't buy one.
- 9:54I don't believe that the dealerships are such standup guys.
- 9:57I am throwing a red flag on the play that I can't, I don't believe it inconceivable.
- 10:02I've never met a dealer that was not just a, a standup citizen.
- 10:07I bet you Chuck La Duck's not doing that.
- 10:09Oh, really?
- 10:09Well, let me read you this headline for the Wall Street
- 10:11Journal, Volkswagen to introduce.
- 10:13Import fees on tariff hit cars?
- 10:16No, actually I think they are being standup in that case.
- 10:20'cause they're literally calling out the line item.
- 10:22That's the tariff portion of the cost of their car and they're going import fee.
- 10:26Boom.
- 10:26Here's what it is, people black and white.
- 10:28This is why the car costs more this line.
- 10:31It's not the $1,500 destination charge.
- 10:33If you're buying a car that was built in Detroit and you know you're in
- 10:36Detroit, it's, it's not the $1,500 destination you're assembled in Detroit.
- 10:40Yeah, yeah.
- 10:41Imported from Detroit.
- 10:43Isn't that what Chrysler was marketing, you know, years ago.
- 10:46I really love the tagline here from Volkswagen of America.
- 10:49We want to be very transparent about navigating through
- 10:52this time of uncertainty.
- 10:53We wanna be very transparent that we're gouging you every time you buy a car.
- 10:57So we're gonna add more fees on top of the tariffs, on top of our already bogus fees.
- 11:02To Brad's point that we put on these cars, the way I interpreted the article
- 11:07is that the import fee is the tariff.
- 11:09So import fee on tariff hit cars.
- 11:11'cause Volkswagen does have a plant in the United States.
- 11:14So they can sell you a car that was assembled in the United States that
- 11:17shouldn't be subject to that tariff.
- 11:19Which car is that?
- 11:20Because they stopped making the rental Passat two years ago.
- 11:24So what are they building here in the United States?
- 11:26The plant's still open in Tennessee.
- 11:27Yeah, the door's open and closed.
- 11:29But what's coming out of them?
- 11:31I wheels couldn't tell you 'cause I haven't looked.
- 11:33I don't know, honestly, I can't tell you what any plant.
- 11:36I didn't know that the Chrysler Pacifica wasn't made in the United States.
- 11:39It was made in Canada.
- 11:40Well, I think the Silverados are made in Canada.
- 11:42I don't think the Silverados and like the Yeah, I read that too.
- 11:44The Sierras are made here, so I mean that's gonna drive their prices up.
- 11:47And like Eric was saying, what is the, the F-150 Maiden Mexico.
- 11:51Mexico.
- 11:51A lot of this Mexico stuff comes from Mexico.
- 11:53Mexico, yeah.
- 11:53Mexico in In Mexico.
- 11:54Yeah.
- 11:55Hey, if it's Baja California, does it count?
- 11:59That's still America according to the interwebs.
- 12:02All knowing this, the Atlas Atlas cross sport in the ID four.
- 12:07Supposed to be made there, assembled there.
- 12:10Okay.
- 12:10Sure.
- 12:11And, and in Chattahoochee Chattahoochee.
- 12:13So speaking of Volkswagen, we'll continue this Winkleman.
- 12:17The CEO of Lamborghini is gonna solve all the problems.
- 12:20He has a plan.
- 12:21They're working on different scenarios.
- 12:22They're gonna figure out a way to continue to cater to their best market, the United
- 12:27States, selling Lamborghinis, because that's what people are doing right now.
- 12:30We're on the brink of a recession, quasi depression.
- 12:34We're gonna all run out, buy Lamborghinis.
- 12:35That's what's important.
- 12:36Well, when we all start our OnlyFans and YouTube careers, we're gonna have,
- 12:41we're gonna be flush with cash and we're gonna go out and we're gonna buy
- 12:44all these, whatever the SUV is, the Uranus, the Uras, sorry, the, the Uras.
- 12:49'cause that's all those kids buy is that stupid thing.
- 12:52They're talking about sticker price increases of three grand to
- 12:5512 grand, depending on the model.
- 12:57But when you're paying a quarter million dollars for a car, if you're
- 13:00in that tax bracket, who cares?
- 13:02What do you care about?
- 13:03Three grand.
- 13:04You don't, and since we're still talking about Volkswagen and Porsche
- 13:07stuff, I was talking to Tanya earlier.
- 13:08Do you know what the cost of the base model nine 11 is right now?
- 13:12Brad, have you ever looked this up?
- 13:14Like 125?
- 13:15130 grand, isn't it?
- 13:16Yeah, it's in insane.
- 13:17Insane.
- 13:18When we were growing up, like in the nineties with the 9,
- 13:219 6, it was like 65 grand.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:24And we were like, oh my God, that's so expensive.
- 13:26Yeah.
- 13:26I used to play on their website all day long and build all these
- 13:29custom builds and everything.
- 13:31It was like 65 70 grand for a brand new nine 11, and now it's almost
- 13:35double that for a base model.
- 13:37The turbos and the GT threes, they're all 200 to two 50.
- 13:41It's just absolutely insane.
- 13:43So again, if you're in that tax bracket, you can afford those kinds of cars,
- 13:46the Bentleys and all that other stuff.
- 13:48Then with all the financing and everything in play, does it
- 13:51really matter Where it hurts?
- 13:54Is the average consumer.
- 13:55Right now, as we've been saying, what do you buy for $50,000?
- 13:59You know, I jumped over to Honda's website just to see if their prices
- 14:02had gone up and you know, you can still buy a Civic for 24 grand.
- 14:06That's the base model.
- 14:07And the touring is in the thirties, so it's like, okay,
- 14:10nothing's changed there yet.
- 14:12I'm just looking at their website, which they don't have
- 14:15to update that anytime soon.
- 14:17So when you go to the dealership, there might be a little sticker shock there.
- 14:20Hyundai's next.
- 14:21Oh yeah.
- 14:22We're solving the world's problems here.
- 14:23Right?
- 14:23So Hyundai has said they're not gonna raise their prices.
- 14:27They're just gonna take away everything else.
- 14:31If you bought a Hyundai because of its stellar maintenance package and
- 14:35you know, free this and free that, and all those wonderful things, they
- 14:38still have a really good warranty.
- 14:39Although I fear that that's gonna be subject to change.
- 14:42The CEO Jose Munoz has said they're taking away the free maintenance and all the
- 14:47other stuff that you get as a perk for owning a Hyundai or a Kia or a Genesis or
- 14:51any of those cars that are in that family.
- 14:53So they're not gonna raise the prices, but now your oil change is $900.
- 14:57Well, 'cause they have to import the oil, you know, and that
- 15:00brings up a really good point.
- 15:01What is oil and gas gonna cost?
- 15:04Because that's not made in the United States either.
- 15:07That's too complicated.
- 15:09If anybody would know, it would be Tanya.
- 15:10I would love a lesson on this that someone who worked for previously,
- 15:14a petroleum company, big oil, she worked in big oil sounds, so Texas.
- 15:21Big Earl.
- 15:21She was t, she was a Texas girl.
- 15:24Big daddy runs big oil.
- 15:26Big earl,
- 15:28big Earl's, big oil.
- 15:31She's like, Nope, I ain't giving you that satisfaction.
- 15:34She's, I am not taking that bait.
- 15:38My soapbox has been put away.
- 15:40I gotta get to bed tonight.
- 15:41Alright, so.
- 15:42There's still EV mandates out there, which are in the middle of all this,
- 15:46and where the EV batteries and all that wonderful unicorn fart power
- 15:51that we're getting coming from.
- 15:52We're not strip mining.
- 15:53Well, we are, but we're not strip mining the United States
- 15:56for all the precious metals.
- 15:57We're gonna go plunder other countries for that kind of stuff.
- 16:00In the midst of all this, remember even hybrids were supposed to
- 16:04be banned in like the next five years because the evil ice motors.
- 16:09So now they're like, whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a second.
- 16:12Wait a second.
- 16:13Can we get away with smaller batteries and like spread the love and maybe do
- 16:16some hybridization of vehicles now?
- 16:19So they've said 2035, which I think this is gonna continue to walk backwards
- 16:23as we've talked about in the past where hybrid really was the answer.
- 16:27And we're gonna talk as we go along here a little bit more about manufacturers
- 16:30that have said, yeah, we're just gonna go back to what we were building before.
- 16:33Have a nice day guys.
- 16:34Let us know when you're done playing the hokey pokey and make sure
- 16:37you say that this is in the uk.
- 16:39I mean, this wasn't I, I don't think eliminating hybrids by whatever time
- 16:43period was something in the us was it?
- 16:45Well, it wasn't until we stopped participating in whatever it was, the
- 16:49Paris Accord and all that other stuff.
- 16:50Weren't we subject to the same rules as everybody else?
- 16:53Yeah, I don't think so.
- 16:54I don't remember hybrids being on the chopping block.
- 16:57Not in this country.
- 16:58Well, diesel certainly were.
- 17:01To add more pain and misery to the conversation.
- 17:04Do you know what the average car cost is right now?
- 17:08It has jumped dramatically, and I mean, we've talked about in previous episodes
- 17:12the under 50 K millennial gray car.
- 17:15That's not even doable right now.
- 17:17The average cost of a car is $48,000, starting price
- 17:21with 20% a PR on top of that.
- 17:24Yeah.
- 17:24Would you take out an 84 month loan at 20%?
- 17:27No, no.
- 17:30Let's do the rough math.
- 17:31$48,000 car plus, let's use Volkswagen's terms import fees,
- 17:36and then 20% a PR for seven years.
- 17:40How much is that?
- 17:41You know, let's say Ford Mach E gonna cost at the end of a hundred grand, right?
- 17:45A lot of money, right?
- 17:47Yes.
- 17:47Yes.
- 17:48That's what I, I keep saying, if you don't have to buy a new car right
- 17:51now, if you absolutely don't have to.
- 17:53Don't do it.
- 17:54The only reason you'd have to buy a new car is your car is totaled because, just
- 17:59because it needs some routine maintenance.
- 18:01Oh, the shocks, the bang, the bank fix it.
- 18:04'cause it's going to be cheaper even if you can't do the work yourself to
- 18:08pay a couple grand at the mechanic to fix it versus going out and
- 18:12spending $80,000 on something else.
- 18:15Yeah, but you don't even need a new car.
- 18:18Like Yeah, but the used car market, it's gonna become like the Covid.
- 18:21I know what I got 75,000 for this 200,000 mile rust clunker.
- 18:27That's true.
- 18:28But it's still, it's still not gonna be a brand new, I mean, it's still
- 18:31not a, a new car, I guess it's who do you want to give your money to?
- 18:34Cecil b Beauford or, you know, uncle Sam, they're gonna get it one way or the other.
- 18:40That's the problem.
- 18:41It doesn't matter which way you turn around.
- 18:43No.
- 18:43You know who's gonna get it.
- 18:44We're all gonna get it as we're bent over the, the steering
- 18:47wheel of our brand new car.
- 18:51Oh God.
- 18:52Things are out of control.
- 18:54On every tangent of this conversation, there is no good solution.
- 18:58Jalopnik wrote an article that was titled What?
- 19:01Foreign Cars will Still Be Worth It after the Tariff Price Hikes.
- 19:04A lot of them.
- 19:05Well, that's if you're okay with today's design language aesthetic, the
- 19:09fact that there's no buttons in any cars anymore, all that kind of stuff.
- 19:12Here's the thing.
- 19:13Board website, I don't want anything on your website.
- 19:16The only thing that would be attractive is the Mustang.
- 19:19So you bring up a very, very valid point because I've been thinking
- 19:23about this quite a bit, and I'm sorry.
- 19:25Before you get to that Thought Chevy's website, I'll be god damned.
- 19:29I'm buying a Malibu.
- 19:31I'm gonna buy that tariff European car.
- 19:34Oh, here we go again.
- 19:36Oh, those cars are terrible.
- 19:37So I did, I gave it a lot of thought.
- 19:39If I was forced to buy something and I'm not talking about for the family or
- 19:43whatever, if, if it was just me going to work and I have to buy a car new and I
- 19:48have no other option, I don't have the money to buy used, I can finance it.
- 19:53Get away with it.
- 19:53I actually kept landing on the Mustang.
- 19:56It just made sense.
- 19:58It was like, get it with a manual if you want.
- 20:00Yeah, the V eight or the four cylinder, you got some options there.
- 20:04The warranty, the dealership network, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:07Technically made in us.
- 20:09I've got everyone's page open at the moment.
- 20:12Chevy Garbage.
- 20:14The Malibu, I'm sorry.
- 20:16No, the Equinox, the Blazer, the Silverado.
- 20:19None of this Buick.
- 20:22No.
- 20:22I mean there was never anything interesting there, so no.
- 20:24Well, Buick's gonna be in trouble here because we export a lot of Buick to China.
- 20:29So how's that gonna work?
- 20:31They're gonna say BYD.
- 20:32Bye.
- 20:33Yeah, that's very true.
- 20:34So it would come down to probably Cadillac getting something like a, do
- 20:40they even still make a Black Hawk ct?
- 20:42Whatever they make the CT vibe.
- 20:44Black wing, black Wing.
- 20:46They are.
- 20:46Phenomenal cars.
- 20:47So it would probably come down to a Cadillac or a Mustang, and then
- 20:52I'd probably have to choose if I was forced to buy a American car,
- 20:56probably end up with a Mustang.
- 20:58I mean the Corvette, I don't know.
- 20:59I've never been enamored by them.
- 21:02Wait, wait, wait.
- 21:02You wouldn't buy the new two door Dodge Charger that supposedly has
- 21:07been on sale and is an EV now.
- 21:09Oh, I forgot about Dodge.
- 21:11See, I forgot about Dodge.
- 21:13Everybody forgot about Dodge because when they closed up their doors and said, no
- 21:17more hemis, oh, the party's over kids.
- 21:20Time to go home.
- 21:21We all said, bye Dodge.
- 21:23Bye-bye.
- 21:23See ya.
- 21:24Nobody's building muscle cars anymore.
- 21:26Who's paying attention to Dodge?
- 21:27Right?
- 21:27What else do they have?
- 21:28The Pacific Up.
- 21:30I think I the Mustang?
- 21:32Well, I'd have to test drive it.
- 21:34As an ev.
- 21:34You'd want it as an ev.
- 21:36Is that the only thing, the only way to make, that's the only option you have?
- 21:38Oh, well then, no, then I'm getting a Mustang.
- 21:42I mean, the only other thing would be a Jeep Renegade.
- 21:45Maybe just 'cause I like it.
- 21:46'cause it's like a, the panda, if they still make that.
- 21:49They stopped selling it, right?
- 21:50Yep.
- 21:50So there you go.
- 21:51So that's out.
- 21:51So I'm back to a Mustang.
- 21:53I do have an option for you though.
- 21:55This is right on the heels of an upcoming, what should I buy?
- 21:57Episode that we did.
- 21:59Did you know that classic cars are exempt from the import tariff?
- 22:03Wait a second.
- 22:04It's a whole new way.
- 22:06That's right.
- 22:07There's a catch though, which we addressed in our, what should
- 22:10I buy Episode And that is.
- 22:12It must be 25 years old, so you have to be happy.
- 22:15That's fine.
- 22:16Importing an old car, I'm okay with that.
- 22:18I'm okay with that too.
- 22:19Which is going to drive up the gray market car prices because
- 22:22a 25-year-old car is a 2000 car.
- 22:25Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 22:26You got it.
- 22:27And that's what we talked about on the, what should I buy episode, when you
- 22:30jump back into it is what can you buy from like 98, 99, 2000 in that range?
- 22:35What would you import?
- 22:36Now we went a little crazy because you know Ah, we'll get a TVR.
- 22:39We'll get this, we'll get that Ford Mano.
- 22:41Yeah, Ford mano.
- 22:41But there's actually some solid choices in there, and this actually stems
- 22:45from a previous drive through episode that we did where James Humphrey.
- 22:49From speed or whatever it's called now was talking about those 25-year-old cars.
- 22:53So it's still an option.
- 22:55And they are only subject to a 2.5% duty like they've always been.
- 23:00So it's actually a pretty good deal.
- 23:02You could import just about anything.
- 23:04Well, they're exempt for now.
- 23:06I mean, how do you tax something from the eighties though?
- 23:08Like you wanna bring in an old Toyota Truo or something like you gonna tax it 25%.
- 23:14Why?
- 23:14They can do whatever they want.
- 23:16It's a known entity.
- 23:17It's like buying rust.
- 23:18Doesn't matter.
- 23:18Don't matter.
- 23:19Tanya's.
- 23:19Right.
- 23:20If they want to tax the air that we breathe, they will do it.
- 23:22They'll figure out a way.
- 23:23Yeah.
- 23:24Maryland taxes, your rainwater.
- 23:25They used to, yeah, they did away with that.
- 23:27Thank goodness.
- 23:28But that being said, there's lots and lots of options in that year 2000 that we can
- 23:35start to look at and investigate if you're really desperate for a car, or at least
- 23:40you wanna continue collecting cars, right?
- 23:42If that's still your hobby and your thing.
- 23:43But, but the, the car.
- 23:46Is not subject to the tariffs, but the replacement parts that you
- 23:51need to import when you mm-hmm.
- 23:53When you buy the car, you're not gonna be able to put an AC
- 23:56Delco starter from Advanced Auto on your newly imported Toyota.
- 24:03I sure will.
- 24:03You know why?
- 24:04'cause I'm a LS swap it with an American made V eight mo.
- 24:08Now you're speaking my language.
- 24:10Now all the parts come from Advanced Auto.
- 24:13Yes.
- 24:13Love it.
- 24:14So that I guess sort of wraps up our tariff discussion.
- 24:17Tariffs are terrible.
- 24:18I hope they go away quickly.
- 24:20I think there's been some backpedaling as of late the last couple weeks.
- 24:24So this is a constant state of flux.
- 24:26I can only hope that this goes back to normal, not just for
- 24:28the automotive industry, but for everybody in general because.
- 24:31It's gonna get nuts for computers and electronics and appliances and shoes.
- 24:35Clothing sweatpants.
- 24:37Well sweatpants.
- 24:39Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:39I can't believe they charge you 70 bucks.
- 24:42Yeah, I was dumbfounded.
- 24:43I told the UPS guy, just get off my property.
- 24:46Get off my lawn.
- 24:47Switching gears.
- 24:49As we wrap out our showcase on tariffs here, we returned to Lower Saxony.
- 24:54I know we said we weren't gonna do this because we pretty much covered
- 24:57everything that there was to cover in boring Mercedes and BMW News, but I found
- 25:02something that I just couldn't pass up.
- 25:04Headline reads, Mercedes to launch by wire.
- 25:08I'm gonna say that again.
- 25:09Buy wire steering and yoke wheel for 2026.
- 25:14Why are we doing yoke wheels again?
- 25:16'cause a, a Yoel thought it was a good idea on another vehicle because people
- 25:21want to feel like they're a pilot.
- 25:22Well, and and when they introduce the self-driving, you're not
- 25:25even gonna be touching it anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
- 25:28It's less material.
- 25:29It's smaller.
- 25:30It's less to make and they can charge more for it.
- 25:32Yeah.
- 25:32And it looks so futuristic.
- 25:35Yeah, it looks like hot garbage.
- 25:37That looks uncomfortable.
- 25:38It looks.
- 25:40Dumb.
- 25:40How do you rest your wrist on it and like gangster road.
- 25:43Oh, they'll find a way.
- 25:44They'll find a way.
- 25:45You just grab the turn signal stock.
- 25:48It doesn't have them.
- 25:49Well, this is a Mercedes.
- 25:50It does.
- 25:51The BMWs don't.
- 25:52No, that's the shifter up there.
- 25:53That's the shifter.
- 25:54I don't think so.
- 25:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:56Zoom in.
- 25:56It has numbers on it.
- 25:57It says D one something.
- 26:00It is not D one.
- 26:03Ugh.
- 26:03This is terrible.
- 26:04I hope that new cars will not pick up this trend.
- 26:09Much like I'm very tired of the slab sided, no flares.
- 26:12Everything looks like it was cut with, you know, a joint compound putty knife.
- 26:16I'm so done with all this stuff.
- 26:18Can we just have cars that are normal again?
- 26:20No.
- 26:21Speaking of not normal.
- 26:22Let's talk about domestics.
- 26:23Have you seen the concept of the C nine Corvette?
- 26:26Oh, no.
- 26:28No.
- 26:28I have not seen the concept.
- 26:30What do we think?
- 26:31I need some context.
- 26:32Who is the source?
- 26:34The source is car scoops.
- 26:35No, no, no.
- 26:36Well, where did, where does their source?
- 26:38This is a concept.
- 26:39What am I supposed to, so imagine this.
- 26:41Picture it 2020 something, the year 2057 uhhuh.
- 26:46Right, right, right.
- 26:46This is the replacement for the current C eight.
- 26:49This is the next generation Corvette.
- 26:52I don't really like the current generation that much.
- 26:56I've gotten used to seeing them.
- 26:58They don't feel as Corvette as other Corvettes do.
- 27:02This is even less Corvette.
- 27:06This reminds me of the peo uh, the Axia, the l and p car or whatever.
- 27:12It's Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:12Who would drive this every day?
- 27:14Who is this designed for?
- 27:16It looks like a fighter jet, which is in some respects Cool.
- 27:19I mean, if it was all black, I guess it could be a Batmobile.
- 27:21Yeah.
- 27:22So it it, it reminds me of the Aston Martin Valery.
- 27:25Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:26A little bit.
- 27:27Which is practically an LMP two car Goldings is a bad idea.
- 27:32Yeah.
- 27:32Well, I don't, I don't know.
- 27:34I uh, obviously this is not what it's gonna look like, but I can guarantee
- 27:37some of the styling cues from this are gonna be used in the next one.
- 27:41That's usually what they do.
- 27:42They'll do something crazy like this and then they come up with
- 27:45the next design as a result of it.
- 27:47Maybe some foreshadowing of what the C nine could look like, but
- 27:50okay, let's say they went full court press and this is what they built.
- 27:54Then this now takes you into that stratosphere of like Lamborghini and
- 27:58Bugatti, where Corvette is no longer for the everyday sports car enthusiast.
- 28:02This is now a hyper car.
- 28:05In that new class that's supposed to be coming to endurance racing, right?
- 28:08Is that what they're building this for?
- 28:10Again, to your point, Brad, what's the source?
- 28:13What's the audience?
- 28:14What's the point?
- 28:15I don't get it and I don't know that I dislike it.
- 28:17This is not a car you're gonna drive to work and then stop at the grocery store
- 28:21in, and you do that with a C eight.
- 28:23Well, the guy today was, I guess we should ask someone that we know
- 28:27that owned a C eight in Mr. Bank.
- 28:30Oh yeah.
- 28:31Yeah.
- 28:31But he takes his viper to the grocery store.
- 28:33So I mean, the reality is this will never be made.
- 28:36Whatever the next Corvette is, won't look like this.
- 28:38The one thing I gotta hand this design is at least it doesn't look like a Camaro
- 28:43was involved in a rear end collision.
- 28:45At least they figured out how to make the back end of it look halfway decent.
- 28:49These seats don't look comfortable.
- 28:51None of it looks comfortable.
- 28:53None of it is that steering, whatever it is, yolk.
- 28:55It's a yolk.
- 28:56Don't call it a steering wheel.
- 28:57It's a yolk.
- 28:58It is circularish if you curve a rectangle.
- 29:01Sure.
- 29:01Yes.
- 29:02That's basically what it is.
- 29:03It's a curved rectangle switch to Asian domestic news.
- 29:07Honda's got a recall out and the headline reads, Honda in Acura are
- 29:10accused of start, stop engine failures affecting up to 2.2 million vehicles.
- 29:16And I mean, this ends in a class action lawsuit.
- 29:18That's the and and, but basically it sounds like Honda's going through
- 29:22motors, like people go through chewing gum, which is sad because
- 29:25Honda's always known for its.
- 29:26Quote unquote reliability and you know, engines that run forever and never need
- 29:30their oil changed and never need any maintenance and all that kind of stuff.
- 29:34But this is not good.
- 29:36I've always said that start, stop technology as much as
- 29:39people claim that it saves.
- 29:40This is, again, the argument of it was a cool experiment.
- 29:43Just put a hybrid in it and call it a day instead of all this
- 29:47start, stop nonsense that isn't really doing any good for anybody.
- 29:50Has Honda thought about just replacing the starter motor with what?
- 29:54With a new starter motor?
- 29:56Is that why it's, I mean, and start stop technology?
- 29:59I would think that that's probably getting overworked and it's
- 30:01probably prematurely failing.
- 30:03Yeah, so that's probably what these cars need is just a new starter.
- 30:06Something like a Tilton racing quality, high output starter instead
- 30:10of, you know, whatever they've been using on the Civic since 1976.
- 30:13I don't know.
- 30:14Changing gears and talking about one of the marketing geniuses
- 30:18of the Asian domestic world.
- 30:19Didn't we talk about this already?
- 30:21We talked about it on Discord.
- 30:23Oh, is that why?
- 30:24'cause I'm like, I remember having this conversation.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:26And that conversation revolves around the Nissan Z selling five times more than the
- 30:32Toyota Supra in the first quarter of 2025.
- 30:35It's also newer.
- 30:36The SRAs on its way out.
- 30:38Yes.
- 30:38The Zs have been sitting on lots.
- 30:40Not moving.
- 30:41It's sort of stupid.
- 30:42Toyota's ramping down production of the Supra.
- 30:45So like, what is this comparison?
- 30:46They still have a model year for this year, so yeah, but production is
- 30:51ramping down, you know what I mean?
- 30:53I don't think it's ever been a high volume car.
- 30:56Anyway, they also changed the front end of the Z. Did you notice now it has
- 31:00two grills in the front instead of the one big blocky one that nobody liked?
- 31:04I did not.
- 31:05Yeah.
- 31:05I don't even remember what it looked like.
- 31:07It had this big square single grill.
- 31:10It was like open mouth fish.
- 31:12Like a carp?
- 31:13Yeah, a magic hop, cob cob.
- 31:14Pretty much.
- 31:15So now they did this split grill in the front.
- 31:17I think it looks better.
- 31:19Not a hundred percent.
- 31:20I'm not sold on it yet.
- 31:21Oh, I see.
- 31:22Now what it, what it used to look like.
- 31:23Okay.
- 31:24Yeah.
- 31:24If you look at the next picture, yeah.
- 31:26Then you see exactly what it looked like.
- 31:27So part of this could also be, because as I said before, first of all, the Nissan
- 31:32was a good deal when they introduced it and people just didn't buy them.
- 31:36And then they started fire sailing them, and they said that the
- 31:40current bonuses and incentives on the Z make it as cheap as a Miata.
- 31:45So if you had to choose between a Miata and a Z, what are you gonna buy?
- 31:48I don't even know how much Miata costs too much.
- 31:51I mean, buying the Z. Yeah, buying the one with more power.
- 31:54To put in perspective, the price is 44,000.
- 31:58Well, hold on.
- 31:59They're saying 44,000 is less than the price of a Miata.
- 32:03That's before the incentives.
- 32:04That's the starting price is 44 grand.
- 32:06So if you knock off.
- 32:08And you're down to 40, which there's as much as a $4,000 rebate on the Z. That's
- 32:13what they're saying that the Miata costs.
- 32:14We can verify that.
- 32:15Let's fact check that quick.
- 32:17I am fact checking it.
- 32:18And the MX 5 20 25 MX five starts at 29,530.
- 32:23Do you get wheels?
- 32:23Do you get a motor?
- 32:24Do you get anything?
- 32:25Does it have electronics?
- 32:26You get a yolk as shown whatever one they've got.
- 32:29Pictured here is 33.
- 32:31You know, I don't trust articles that come from the drive.
- 32:34We've pointed this out before.
- 32:35Oh, I thought you were gonna say, I don't trust, like I'm on Mazda's
- 32:37website, so I think I can trust it.
- 32:39Sometimes the sources of stuff that we get, I'm like, what?
- 32:42Oh, I was gonna try and build one and it gave me an, oh, here we go.
- 32:45It says here, according to their facts.
- 32:48They're true facts that they have here.
- 32:50The Mazda Miata MX five grand Touring with an automatic is 36,935, and
- 32:55the gap widens when you pick the special edition Miata, which is 37.
- 33:00And then the RF Club, which is that fixed roof thing that
- 33:03they have, brings it up to 42.
- 33:05So with incentives, this is where they're playing the game with incentives than
- 33:09the Z is cheaper than the top model.
- 33:12Miata not the base model yet, so you can never compare.
- 33:15Yeah, the base, it's cheaper than.
- 33:17A version of the Miata.
- 33:19It's cheaper than the track prepped ready Miata.
- 33:22Do you know what?
- 33:22They're both cheaper than than the nine 11 GT three Rs Whoopy.
- 33:26Do.
- 33:26Like, who cares?
- 33:27The the bigger point is that the Z has been a good deal since day one.
- 33:31If you want a grand tour with 400 horsepower that isn't a V eight
- 33:37and is something different that you can take to your local cars and
- 33:40coffee, 'cause you're not gonna see another one, the Z is a goodbye.
- 33:43And if you can afford going to the track anymore, which those prices have gotten,
- 33:47maybe there's tariffs on track days.
- 33:49Now.
- 33:49I, I don't know.
- 33:50The asphalt is imported.
- 33:51Oh, is that what it is?
- 33:52Yeah.
- 33:52There we go.
- 33:53So if you can afford to do that as well, you've got this sort of every
- 33:57person, every event type of car.
- 34:00And to me that's the second car in the lineup.
- 34:03After the Mustang, you have to buy American, so it's not in your lineup,
- 34:07but the Z is the next one in line.
- 34:09If we remove the shroud of everything else we talked about, it would be
- 34:13a hard toss up between the Mustang and the Z at the end of the day.
- 34:16As someone who is without a fun car for a little while.
- 34:20I can look here and let's see.
- 34:22The Z, they sold 20.
- 34:24Okay, so when did it come out?
- 34:26I'm trying to think of how many are gonna be available in the used car
- 34:29market in about four or five years.
- 34:31Came met a couple of years ago.
- 34:32There'll probably be a decent amount of them.
- 34:33Well, the ones they're selling now are like Dodge Darts.
- 34:36They're gonna keep selling the 2020s through 2030 because they haven't.
- 34:39Fantastic.
- 34:40I'll be able to get a brand new one.
- 34:41There you go.
- 34:42It'll be 170,000 for 25% auto loan for 15 years.
- 34:47Don't forget, there'll be a tariffs on that.
- 34:49Yeah, it's true.
- 34:49I'll, I'll take it on 15 year mortgage.
- 34:51Well, we've talked about this before, Tanya.
- 34:53This is a de doe moment for you.
- 34:55Right.
- 34:55God.
- 34:56Thank God manufacturers specifically.
- 34:58Hyundai is gonna go back to buttons in the car versus touchscreen.
- 35:02'cause it's safer.
- 35:04No shit.
- 35:09But the buttons aren't gonna be free.
- 35:11You're gonna have to pay for them.
- 35:13Yeah, but it's gonna be a lot cheaper than that.
- 35:15Imported computer board, electronic screen, blah,
- 35:18blah, blah, blah, blah chips.
- 35:20I just wanna know who thought it was a good idea to put
- 35:22all that crap in the cars.
- 35:24Somebody who is trying to capitalize on the world we live in, that
- 35:29everything is, is freaking computers.
- 35:31Can we start our own campaign?
- 35:33Can we do make cars great again?
- 35:35Can we do that?
- 35:36Can we start that Macca?
- 35:39No, it's Mick.
- 35:42There's not enough vowels in there.
- 35:43Maybe we, we, we just add a vowel, make all cars again.
- 35:46Well, there's no d so me.
- 35:53If you take a D out of dodge, you get Doge, right?
- 35:55You don't want to get dodged in this situation.
- 35:57No.
- 35:57You never take the D outta dodge.
- 35:59You leave the D in.
- 36:01My point is, I'm not saying, let's go back to Fins and Friends of the 1950s.
- 36:05Now there's a shirt, right?
- 36:07Those cars are wonderful.
- 36:09There's a ton of nostalgia around the cars of the fifties and sixties, and they're
- 36:12terrible to drive, but there's beauty and simplicity and, and a freaking knob.
- 36:17Works and a button works unless you're a total ass hat and you break the
- 36:22thing off the buttons and the buttons and the knobs and my 40-year-old
- 36:27car still work 40 years later.
- 36:29You know what doesn't work?
- 36:30The touchscreen in that Cadillac, that's the reason we got rid of our Cadillac.
- 36:35Mercedes will spend how much time developing?
- 36:39It was two years or redeveloping a knob for your 1980s sl.
- 36:44See, but that's quality engineering.
- 36:45Now, that button went from being $3 to $300.
- 36:49Thanks to everything that's happening right now.
- 36:51We're gonna have to pull back some of those stories.
- 36:53Be like, uh, correction.
- 36:54We need to redact our statement about how cheap this was.
- 36:57Ep be, be, be, be, be.
- 36:58It's okay though.
- 36:58Here's the thing people gotta think about.
- 37:01With the buttons and the knobs and everybody having 3D printers.
- 37:04You could break it.
- 37:05You could just 3D print yourself another one.
- 37:06That's what I kept thinking.
- 37:07But the price of the 3D printing filament's gonna go up too, right?
- 37:11If you don't already have one.
- 37:11So it's a lose lose loser situation.
- 37:15Well, since we opened the door to talk about Hyundai again, Tanya, you
- 37:19brought us one in EVs and concepts.
- 37:22What is this?
- 37:23Apparently, Genesis Oh, is unveiling their 2026 GV 60 magma.
- 37:31Come on.
- 37:31You gotta give it that magma.
- 37:35It reminds me of S Magma.
- 37:45Next up from Hyundai, the Merkin.
- 37:51Oh my God.
- 37:53The Hyundai fpa.
- 37:57Well, as we compose ourselves, get used to the magma name because apparently
- 38:03it's the Mark's new performance sub-brand Magma EV 60 s Magma.
- 38:09S Magma.
- 38:10Here we go again.
- 38:15Did it on purpose.
- 38:16They had to have done it on purpose.
- 38:18They're trolling us.
- 38:19They are trolling us.
- 38:21Okay.
- 38:21Genesis Kia Hyundai, same company.
- 38:24Let's just get that out on the table for people that don't know.
- 38:27So the magma.
- 38:29Is the end line.
- 38:30This is the Veloster.
- 38:32And see, they call it an SUV, but I'm like, it's, it's the red hot electric SUV.
- 38:39This thing looks like a velociter.
- 38:41A velociter.
- 38:43Isn't that, wait, veloc.
- 38:44Isn't that what that thing's called?
- 38:45What is it?
- 38:46Veloc?
- 38:46There's no, I, oh, is it?
- 38:49There you go.
- 38:49Veloster.
- 38:50Is it?
- 38:50Yes.
- 38:50The Velociraptor like, yes, the ve.
- 38:56The Velociter s Magma.
- 39:01Velociter would've been a better name.
- 39:03Veloster, all that bluster.
- 39:05And anyway, it looks like a veloster.
- 39:07They should rename it.
- 39:08The Vesuvius.
- 39:09Ooh, the magma comes from the Vesuvius
- 39:15Vesuvius's.
- 39:15Terrible.
- 39:17So if it's quote unquote an SUV as the article alleges, then it's the Ioni five.
- 39:23It looks like an updated veloster.
- 39:25It really does.
- 39:26It's the back door and the flare fender in the back that really
- 39:29screams Veloster to me, which is okay.
- 39:32'cause I was sad to see the Veloster go.
- 39:34The last generation was really, really good and I was like scratching my head
- 39:39why they would pull themselves out of that market considering GTI and
- 39:43Civic and all those cars still exist.
- 39:45But you are correct in that it actually shares the platform of the Iion EQ five
- 39:50N. Does it have the stereo that makes the car sounds when they drive around?
- 39:54I don't know, but apparently this thing's gonna have 600 horsepower or more.
- 39:58641 what?
- 40:00Depending on the motor configuration you have and apparently the magma brand,
- 40:05you're also gonna be seeing Genesis magma racing in Weck and imsa, and they're
- 40:10gonna try to get into Labon in Daytona.
- 40:13Not with this.
- 40:14That's No, they're gonna have, that's literally gonna be an SUV on track.
- 40:17No, of course not.
- 40:18No, no, no.
- 40:18They're gonna create their own hypercar.
- 40:20I think.
- 40:20I like it from the back.
- 40:22I like it a lot.
- 40:23It's very corrado from the rear with that little wang that it has there.
- 40:27I don't hate it.
- 40:28I don't hate it either, honestly.
- 40:30Like the front could massage a little bit, they could tweak it, improve that.
- 40:34I don't know that I'm a fan of those double headlights and I don't normally
- 40:38go for orange, but I kind of like this.
- 40:40Yeah.
- 40:41Okay.
- 40:41All jokes aside in the name Jokes aside, it's gonna be 75,000 before tariff.
- 40:46Nevermind.
- 40:47I'm out Dugger.
- 40:48So boom.
- 40:48A cool a hundred grand right off the bat for a hundred grand.
- 40:51They better bring me that N 74 vision thing.
- 40:55Yeah, well that's gonna be 200 something.
- 40:57Forget that noise.
- 40:58And it's a hydrogen bomb on wheels too, so, alright.
- 41:02I didn't bring this up during Lower Saxony because I know Brad starts to
- 41:06get the Ajita if we talk too much about BMW now, but Mini is one of the brands.
- 41:12That says we're changing course.
- 41:14We are not gonna abandon gas engines.
- 41:16Internal combustion is quote, still very much a thing.
- 41:20Shocker degree.
- 41:21Where's like the captain obvious sticker for this?
- 41:24That don't have to be the thumbnail.
- 41:26What I wanted to comment on is the mini is no longer the mini anymore.
- 41:30The mini became the maxi a while ago.
- 41:34This thing is big and this thing is ugly.
- 41:37Especially that green one is starting to look like a Subaru Outback.
- 41:41Like, what is that awful?
- 41:43Yeah, the lines on the green one, that's the Aman, so that's different.
- 41:48That is larger than the white one.
- 41:49I think the white one is more normally sized because it's supposed
- 41:54to just be like a mini Cooper.
- 41:55So it's not a countryman.
- 41:56It's not the Paceman, it's not so whatever.
- 41:58The other one they have is normal size relative to the current
- 42:01mini, which is twice the size.
- 42:02Well, yes.
- 42:03I mean, when you speak mini now you can't be like, oh, it's
- 42:06red, the one from 40 years ago.
- 42:09Of course it's bigger.
- 42:09It's like the new GTI.
- 42:11It's 9,000 times the size of the original one.
- 42:14And God, I saw one the other day.
- 42:16I was with my wife, we're driving down the road VW badge on the back.
- 42:19She asked me, what car is that?
- 42:21Like?
- 42:21You couldn't really discern it from everything else on
- 42:24the road, the earlier point.
- 42:25Everything's just this blob shape now, and everybody copied each other
- 42:28on headlights and taillights, so it's like you can't play that game anymore.
- 42:32And I feel like you could play when we were kids where it's like at
- 42:34nighttime and you see headlights coming.
- 42:36It's like, Ooh, name that car.
- 42:38And you could actually tell the car from the headlights.
- 42:40Now it's like, is that an Audi?
- 42:42Oh shit, look, that was a Corolla.
- 42:43My bad.
- 42:44See, that was an important skill to have when you wanted to know if the five oh
- 42:48was rolling up on you, or if it was a Mustang because they had similar front
- 42:51end headlights in the Crown Vix and stuff.
- 42:53Now I have no idea.
- 42:55No clue.
- 42:55Roof racks.
- 42:56It's all about roof racks now.
- 42:58Alright, meanwhile, so mini sin.
- 43:00Ice is okay, we're gonna stick with ice.
- 43:02But on the other hand, Subaru, in a stroke of absolute genius Subaru's, STI
- 43:07plans are to ditch gas altogether and the next STI Subarus will be electric.
- 43:13How are they gonna blow head gaskets then?
- 43:15Well, how are they gonna make that noise?
- 43:19Hey, I'm okay with this actually, so I don't have to hear that noise.
- 43:27What I took away from this is.
- 43:28The following, the old school, the OG doubles all defected after the Mark IVs
- 43:33basically, and left Volkswagen and went to Subaru because Subaru was exciting.
- 43:38It was the next tinkerers cars was sort of, you know, the
- 43:40bargain basement enthusiast vehicle like the GTIs used to be.
- 43:43And they, you know, all wheel drive and Rally and Colin McRay and
- 43:47add all the excitement in there.
- 43:48Right.
- 43:49But they've become old and bloated like everybody else.
- 43:51And so they are following exactly in Volkswagen's footsteps, just
- 43:55like we talked about with the golf.
- 43:56What does Volkswagen have that gets anybody excited anymore?
- 43:59I can't tell a Jetta GLI apart from enter your favorite Japanese domestic
- 44:05American car in that versus the GTI and Subaru's going the same way.
- 44:09The cars over the last couple of years have just gotten more and more, I'm not
- 44:12saying it's a bad thing, they're family cars now for the aging, you know, dad
- 44:17Bo and you buy your next Subaru, right?
- 44:19As you've matured out of the fanboy racer, just like we did
- 44:22with our Volkswagen, right, Brad?
- 44:24Mm-hmm.
- 44:24I mean, they only offer two cars and none of 'em are WRX or STI.
- 44:30It's just.
- 44:30Impreza or Legacy, gross and grosser.
- 44:33They already said they got rid of the wx, I thought, right?
- 44:35Yeah.
- 44:36So you can't even get that.
- 44:37So now you just have base sport and RS trim, whatever that is.
- 44:40So it's like, what is exciting about these?
- 44:42Nothing.
- 44:43The Impreza is still the more hatchback looking one, and
- 44:46then the legacy is the sedan.
- 44:48You really do have every dealership website of, we
- 44:52have an uncool wall nominee.
- 44:54It's been a while.
- 44:55We got a new one.
- 44:56What is this trash?
- 44:57Is this a new forester?
- 44:58No.
- 44:58Is this a new Outback?
- 45:00Yes.
- 45:00What a turd.
- 45:01This is the ugliest car on the market right now.
- 45:04What are these two piece plastic fender things?
- 45:07Lego cars have more shape than this does.
- 45:09Is this an ev?
- 45:10Is this gasoline?
- 45:11It's a truck is what it is.
- 45:13Look how big it is.
- 45:14It's gotta be an ev.
- 45:15There's no radiator grill or anything.
- 45:18There's like little teeny holes in the front.
- 45:21This has to be an ev.
- 45:22This is the family youngster.
- 45:24That's what this is.
- 45:25This is terrible.
- 45:26This is the family ter.
- 45:28This is what Subaru is building now.
- 45:30Available Turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine.
- 45:33The six cylinder or the four doesn't say get vehicle updates.
- 45:37Oh, I gotta sign up to hear about it.
- 45:40Do it because it's not out yet.
- 45:42This thing looks like it weighs 6,500 pounds, 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
- 45:47Ugh.
- 45:48And available turbocharged in their registered trademarked
- 45:52Subaru boxer engine.
- 45:53Yeah.
- 45:54Okay.
- 45:54Wherever you're going, the 2026 Outback is ready when you are.
- 45:58Yeah.
- 45:58Okay.
- 45:58This has not been paid for in part by Subaru.
- 46:00Yeah.
- 46:01Okay.
- 46:02Either way, fans of the show now have the opportunity to vote on
- 46:07the family Youngster, AKA, the 2026 Subaru Outback, along with
- 46:1160 other cars on our uncool wall.
- 46:14So jump over to gt motorsports.org, click on podcast, and then uncool Wall.
- 46:18And you can vote on a ton of different cars that we have talked about over the
- 46:22years on this show and on other segments on the Motor and Podcast Network.
- 46:26Well, since you have dealership websites open, it's time to talk
- 46:29about Brad's favorite segment of the Drive Through Lost and Found, where
- 46:33we scoured the internet for the most ridiculous cars that we can buy.
- 46:37Had you been keeping track of Project 9 64 from PCA?
- 46:40Nope.
- 46:40No.
- 46:41So this has been going on for quite a while, that they did this
- 46:43restoration on this Carrera for 9 64.
- 46:46They sold it on Bring a Trailer.
- 46:48I'm sure you guys have already figured out how much it costs, so
- 46:50we won't play the guessing game, but our audience doesn't know.
- 46:52They sold it for a cool $133,000.
- 46:57Was that a better deal than just buying 120 something thousand dollars?
- 47:01Brand new nine 11 if you're a purist.
- 47:04Like I am.
- 47:05Yes, I want an air.
- 47:06Cool.
- 47:063.6 liter 9 64 could care less about the all wheel drive.
- 47:10That syncro system was junk in those cars back then.
- 47:13That being said, if you're a technophile and you want the latest and greatest
- 47:17nine 11, that will run circles around this 9 64, then yeah, you're saving
- 47:21money by spending 127 grand on a base model nine 11 because it's, oh,
- 47:26I don't know, 30 years newer, 30.
- 47:29They put out that little teaser, like, Ooh, wow.
- 47:31They sold it on bringer trailer for 130 grand.
- 47:33Okay, cool.
- 47:34And then they followed it up with an article about how they sold it.
- 47:37So I was like, well, that's interesting too.
- 47:39So a little just kind of deeper dive into the world of consigning cars and bring
- 47:43a trailer and what that was all about.
- 47:45Glad to see that project.
- 47:479 64 went onto a new home.
- 47:48It is a beautiful car.
- 47:50I tend to like the nine 60 fours in other colors, but there's nothing wrong with a
- 47:54guards red nine 11 at the end of the day.
- 47:56I like the guards red nine 11, but I don't like the 9 64 in guards red.
- 48:00Right.
- 48:01There's something about its shape that it does not lend itself well to red.
- 48:05No, it does not look good.
- 48:06It looks good in green.
- 48:07I've seen some green ones.
- 48:08It looks good in yellow.
- 48:10Like the turbos, it looks good in silver, white.
- 48:13Mm-hmm.
- 48:13Just anything but red.
- 48:14It, it's just red.
- 48:15Never floated Well in those cars.
- 48:17I don't like these hrre with this color either.
- 48:20I don't like the combination, just something about it.
- 48:22But I'm not dropping 130 grand on it, so it doesn't really matter what I think.
- 48:25All right.
- 48:25Tanya, are we gonna do it?
- 48:27Are we gonna break our New Year's resolution?
- 48:29I think we've, we've done it once before already.
- 48:31We don't have to.
- 48:32We don't have to.
- 48:32Okay.
- 48:33It's lies anyway.
- 48:34That's not gonna happen.
- 48:35So, oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 48:36Are you ta are you referring to Tesla?
- 48:41If past performance is indicative of future performance, then it
- 48:45ain't happening, so we're fine.
- 48:46Oh, there's no news just to fill in the curious audience.
- 48:51What are we talking about?
- 48:53So they allege that.
- 48:55I like how you have to start with that disclaimer.
- 48:57Alleged you have to.
- 49:00They allege that their basic entry level, lower cost model is going to be available
- 49:06in June of this year based off of, I think the model Y. The real question
- 49:12is how much more basic can you get?
- 49:14Like what's below Home Depot?
- 49:18Ingers.
- 49:18Ollie's good and cheap, and that's all you have it.
- 49:20That's it.
- 49:21It's not happening.
- 49:22June's gonna be here tomorrow.
- 49:24This isn't gonna be there.
- 49:25Just like, you know, everything else.
- 49:27I wanna know, have they stated how much?
- 49:29Actually, they've always said it was supposed to be 30.
- 49:31Yeah.
- 49:32Okay.
- 49:32Yeah, so I think they're still trying to say it's gonna be 30 or
- 49:35less and they're gonna do that.
- 49:37We need to be built on existing assembly lines.
- 49:39Yeah, of course it's still, it still says 30, but you're gonna still base
- 49:43it off something you already have.
- 49:45So how much more cheaply are you going to make it?
- 49:48You're not gonna put seats in it.
- 49:49Like are those optional?
- 49:50Why don't they just say that they're facelift the model
- 49:53Y and then be done with it.
- 49:55Now I will say.
- 49:56Credit where credit is due.
- 49:57The cyber truck front end actually works for this.
- 50:01The only thing cyber truck is the thin lights that they have going across.
- 50:05That's what I'm saying.
- 50:06It sort of works for this, you know, from the picture.
- 50:08It doesn't look like has a windwood wiper.
- 50:10It doesn't.
- 50:11That's why this is not happening.
- 50:13That's why this is fake.
- 50:14This is a rendering.
- 50:15It's never gonna happen.
- 50:16This was dreamt up by stable diffusion or something.
- 50:19This is just typical.
- 50:21Bullshit publicity they gotta do to generate the media buzz and try
- 50:26to get their trajectory back up.
- 50:27And then there's probably, if you go on their website, which I'm not gonna do,
- 50:30probably if you go there, you probably put your a hundred dollars deposit down.
- 50:33That way they can start collecting a bunch of money to go pay for something else and
- 50:36then delay this, you know, six months and another six months and another six months.
- 50:40Well enough of that nonsense.
- 50:41Speaking of nonsense, we need to switch to lowered expectations.
- 50:45Lowered expectations.
- 50:51Antonia, we have just recently celebrated all the high Holy Holidays of the
- 50:55spring and it is time for our final installment of the Passion of the Senna.
- 51:01Did you listen to our review?
- 51:06That's funny.
- 51:06May he rest in peace.
- 51:07Yes, I listened to the podcast was good.
- 51:10So were William, John and I. Wrong.
- 51:12It was interesting in that John hadn't watched it, so he was digesting from
- 51:18your and William's perspectives, watching through your words essentially.
- 51:23I was with it the whole way till a certain point.
- 51:26I know which point it is too.
- 51:28And then I was like, flip the table, I'm done.
- 51:32Turn it off.
- 51:32I'm not listening anymore.
- 51:34Spoiler alert, if you haven't listened to the podcast, go
- 51:37ahead and fast forward a minute.
- 51:39The point that turned me off when we were discussing, obviously,
- 51:43his death, and that there was a hypothesis, oh, my conspiracy theory.
- 51:48Conspiracy theory, that it could have been intentional, that
- 51:52it could have been suicide.
- 51:54You don't know.
- 51:56I was like, no, you gotta be kidding me.
- 52:00That's a bold take.
- 52:01I mean that's, that's one theory.
- 52:04That's one theory because I wanted to see how John was gonna react.
- 52:07He did not appreciate that theory either.
- 52:13Ah.
- 52:14I mean, otherwise we're all doing the same thing.
- 52:17Ah, no, I think there was general consensus.
- 52:20I mean, you got the real sense of it from the movie and of course
- 52:23his family was involved in the production and and all that.
- 52:27So obviously it was gonna slant and tilt a certain way, and I think everyone agreed
- 52:31that that was the tone of the TV series.
- 52:34If you're at all interested in Formula One, if you're all interested in.
- 52:38Ton and that whole history, it's a must see.
- 52:41Just like, yeah, watching the original Netflix docu movie that came out called
- 52:45Sena, which has more clips of him and the real footage and all that in
- 52:50the interviews and stuff like that.
- 52:51That's definitely a must see as well.
- 52:54At the end of the day, recommend it.
- 52:55It's obviously a ization.
- 52:57Some things that don't make sense or at least seem odd with what the history
- 53:01would've said as people lived through it, some of the relationships he had with some
- 53:05of the other key folks in the rivalries.
- 53:09Which I think we touched on last time, like Darth Prost.
- 53:12Yeah.
- 53:12It was very interesting how they were suddenly BF.
- 53:15That seemed completely not what the situation was, but
- 53:18I guess, who are we to know?
- 53:20Well, we did have fun reviewing it.
- 53:21If you haven't listened to the podcast episode that goes along with the review
- 53:25of Sena Conspiracy theories aside, I think we did a good job of buttoning that whole
- 53:30thing up so you don't have to watch it.
- 53:32TLDR it.
- 53:33Listen to the podcast episode.
- 53:34It's in our catalog from last May.
- 53:37Now it's almost a year ago.
- 53:38We celebrated the 30th anniversary of Senna's Death at Timor.
- 53:42Now we gotta switch gears and pick up, are you faster than an interceptor?
- 53:45And Brad Japan heard you and they said, hold my Sapporo, North Carolina.
- 53:51We're gonna see your Mustang and raise you.
- 53:53Acura NSX.
- 53:55Ooh.
- 53:56This is their police interceptor.
- 53:58I mean, it looks like the Fujiyama Fujiwara.
- 54:01Yeah.
- 54:01Tofu shop delivery 80, 86.
- 54:03But still, Italy's got Lamborghinis.
- 54:05I thought they stopped making the NSX.
- 54:07They've all become police cars now.
- 54:09Yeah.
- 54:09The ones that they didn't sell are all cop cars now.
- 54:11Yeah.
- 54:11Retail's for 25 million yen, which is $175,000 a us.
- 54:18Mm. I don't wanna be chased by one, but I would love to stage like a top
- 54:22gear cop car challenge with this and the Mustang and some of the other cars.
- 54:26I think that'd be a lot of fun.
- 54:27Do some cherries and berries for charity racing.
- 54:29That'd be good.
- 54:30Well, since we are talking about Florida man.
- 54:32Mm-hmm.
- 54:34Florida man.
- 54:48Mm-hmm.
- 54:49I was trying to understand this one, but apparently it's all the rage.
- 54:53No, this was in Texas because I recognized the beige Lexus driver
- 54:56going full road rage on cyber truck.
- 54:58Sounded like he was just annoyed that the fact that there was cyber
- 55:01truck in his line of vision and then the guy went so far as possibly
- 55:05brandishing a firearm while they look like they're on the 45 highway.
- 55:09I don't know where in Texas they are, but they're on a highway.
- 55:11Well, that doesn't matter.
- 55:12The cyber truck is bulletproof.
- 55:13That's true.
- 55:13Maybe that's what he wanted to test out.
- 55:15He's like, look at you.
- 55:17I wanna see if you are riot proof.
- 55:19Is that a gun or a taser?
- 55:20What is that?
- 55:21Well, and that's what they say.
- 55:22They're like, we're not sure if it's a taser.
- 55:24We're not sure if it's a gun in its holster, but I'm like,
- 55:26that's a really square holster.
- 55:27But I don't know really big thought.
- 55:30At first I was like holding this wallet.
- 55:33Unreal.
- 55:33There is a video, there's a theme here in the Florida, man.
- 55:38I'll let you know.
- 55:38This is starting a theme of unhinged people.
- 55:41We'll get to more of them.
- 55:42Yeah.
- 55:42First of all, I thought the cyber truck was supposed to be really fast.
- 55:45He can't outrun the five liter in that Lexus.
- 55:47I've been in one of those Lexus.
- 55:48They're quick, but he should be able to just.
- 55:50Put on all his tri motors and unicorn farts and outrun 'em.
- 55:54Oh, what?
- 55:54He looks like.
- 55:55He's just not trying.
- 55:56And it looks like the guy's holding a box now.
- 55:59It looks like a taser.
- 55:59It's not a gun.
- 56:00Geez.
- 56:00He almost wrecks himself.
- 56:01Yeah, he almost killed himself.
- 56:03If he didn't have traction control, he'd have been in the Jersey wall.
- 56:05Is it really his fault that this guy bought a cyber truck?
- 56:08Like, I don't fault people.
- 56:09If that's how you wanna waste your money, like go for it.
- 56:12I don't say that about other Teslas.
- 56:14I get it.
- 56:14You know, it's the car you chose, but the cyber truck, you know, that's a
- 56:16conscious decision you have to make.
- 56:18But I will say this, a friend of mine, I was chatting with him about
- 56:21this 'cause I know his wife owns a Tesla and he said that they bought a
- 56:24sticker to put on the car that says, I bought this before Elon went crazy.
- 56:28Oh, there's, I've seen lots of things talking about that.
- 56:31Yeah, I've seen those before.
- 56:32People changing the badges on the car, because to your point, Tanya,
- 56:34all the cars look sort of the same.
- 56:36So from the back, if you put an Audi badge on a Tesla, it kinda looks like an A
- 56:39four, A five, maybe you'll get left alone.
- 56:41I guess what we don't know is if something precipitated that guy's anger.
- 56:46If it was, it might have been.
- 56:47Something.
- 56:48Yeah.
- 56:48How unhinged are you to really get that?
- 56:51Just 'cause you see one and then, and I do believe there are unhinged
- 56:54people like that, but we don't know that something else didn't
- 56:56happen two miles down the road.
- 56:58Not that this was the appropriate reaction regardless.
- 57:01No, but it also proves the point that the Teslas plural are always recording because
- 57:06that was picked up on what the fender cam or the mirror cam off of the cyber truck.
- 57:10I guess, again, I don't want to go into the process of how they extracted
- 57:13the video, but the fact of the matter is those cars are always recording
- 57:17and they only extracted the part you wanted to see because you don't
- 57:20know if two miles before the camera would've seen something not favorable
- 57:24for the Tesla, but Yeah, exactly.
- 57:26People be cray.
- 57:27There's gonna be a new campaign out.
- 57:29That's a Tesla Lives matter.
- 57:30Oh geez.
- 57:31Oh my God.
- 57:32Well, speaking of a world full of cameras, did you know that
- 57:34there are now highway patrols?
- 57:36That are using AI cameras in an attempt to catch distracted drivers.
- 57:41So how do they know you're distracted?
- 57:43I had to venture into the city yet again, and I'm not gonna get
- 57:46on my soapbox and rant about it.
- 57:48It's pretty obvious when somebody is talking into their phone.
- 57:52Well, that in a car with Bluetooth and it's.
- 57:54Well, I, I guess I'm wondering that what is the sensitivity
- 57:57level from this picture?
- 57:59It's pretty obvious.
- 57:59Well, that's like really blatant.
- 58:01Yeah, but I'm wondering, so I guess they're just randomly taking photos all
- 58:05the time and then they have, it's like the capture thing and they've got the
- 58:09AI that's sitting there looking for the bicycle in eight of the picture frames.
- 58:13Yes.
- 58:13And by the way, at the same time that they took a snapshot of you driving
- 58:17down the road, they've also taken a snapshot of your license plate.
- 58:20Oh, of course.
- 58:21And put two and two together and they're gonna send you not just a $70 thing
- 58:25from UPS in the mail to pay for it.
- 58:27They're gonna send you a fine, they're gonna send you a citation.
- 58:30That's what this is all boiling down to.
- 58:31Well, hold on.
- 58:32'cause this is where it gets interesting.
- 58:34So if this is the picture that they shot, now obviously they probably
- 58:38blurred this guy's face or lady's face.
- 58:40I can't tell for their privacy here.
- 58:43Speed cameras function in that they sent you a ticket, but there's no
- 58:48repercussion to the points on your license because they can't actually
- 58:51know who was behind the wheel.
- 58:52Right.
- 58:52If they've now coupled the technology to take a picture, you're face in there.
- 58:56It's pretty solid evidence of who was driving the car.
- 59:00You're done.
- 59:01So is are you now not only gonna have the ticket, but also, Hey, guess what?
- 59:05That's two points off your license.
- 59:07'cause I can clearly see that it's you.
- 59:09Whoop whoop, you're done.
- 59:10This is the police state.
- 59:12Skynet big brother is watching 1984 world that we will be living in.
- 59:16Oh my God.
- 59:16We're gonna have people riding around in like Friday.
- 59:19Masks screen, hundred percent masks.
- 59:21They'll be like, I don't want my face captured on your AI photo.
- 59:25Just like they put the smoke plastic covers over their license
- 59:28plate to try to avoid the toys.
- 59:29The cameras, exactly.
- 59:29There's gonna be a bunch of plastic Richard Nixon heads driving around.
- 59:33I'm gonna get the one from Money Heist.
- 59:35I'm gonna do the Dali Masks.
- 59:36It'll be perfect.
- 59:38Some guy Fox Maxes.
- 59:39Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 59:41This next one.
- 59:42This is right up your alley, isn't it, Tanya?
- 59:44I mean, if you're, if you're so stupid to do a crime and post it on social
- 59:47media, like I don't feel sorry for you.
- 59:49That's the modern age Darwinism happening right there.
- 59:53Like my God, man, charged after bragging in a selfie.
- 59:57Selfie of tire theft.
- 59:59We all know that social media is a pit and we're never sure if anybody's actually
- 1:00:04watching, but how brazen do you have to be to be like, yo, look at me, dude.
- 1:00:09And all the tires and wheels that I stole from the dealership, 22-year-old
- 1:00:12Connecticut man said on Instagram, brazen.
- 1:00:15How stupid are you mentally challenged, no offense like.
- 1:00:20Are you just incapable of of reasoning?
- 1:00:22What makes me sad is he got more likes on those posts than we
- 1:00:26will ever get cumulatively on all of our social media posts.
- 1:00:29And that's the real pit of despair.
- 1:00:31That is social media.
- 1:00:33That's the pit of despair, that's humanity.
- 1:00:37Yeah.
- 1:00:37So remember to like subscribe to at Motoring Podcast Network on social media.
- 1:00:41Thank you.
- 1:00:44All right.
- 1:00:44I couldn't decide how to round it out, but I think I'm gonna save, not gonna
- 1:00:49put Florida man as the last one, but this is, there's a video here as well.
- 1:00:52And for whatever reason about halfway through just repeats,
- 1:00:55it shows the same thing.
- 1:00:56It's not a whole thing to watch, but this Florida man casually offers
- 1:00:59a vodka spritzer to the police officer during a police chase.
- 1:01:03This Floridian was just driving in circles around some.
- 1:01:07Parking lot.
- 1:01:08And then the cops showed up and they tried to pull him over on foot or whatever.
- 1:01:12And as he is driving by him, he's holding the vodka spritzer out the
- 1:01:15window and basically it's like, you guys want one or something.
- 1:01:19Nonetheless, he then speeds away, tries to evade the cops.
- 1:01:23They do some spike strips.
- 1:01:25What does this need for speed to the spike strips?
- 1:01:28Deploy the helicopter.
- 1:01:29But you said he was in a parking lot, so he left the parking lot.
- 1:01:32Oh, go, go.
- 1:01:33Yeah.
- 1:01:34I was like, hang on.
- 1:01:35They deployed spike strips in the parking lot.
- 1:01:36No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:01:37He was in the parking.
- 1:01:38He left the parking lot.
- 1:01:39I think they went like a couple miles down the road.
- 1:01:42Not only did.
- 1:01:43The spike strip.
- 1:01:44Then you see like later when they finally have him stopped, I think
- 1:01:47another SUV rammed into him.
- 1:01:49So these Canadian pacificas put good tires on there.
- 1:01:53They're Korean from the factory, by the way.
- 1:01:55I know that, but So you should watch the video.
- 1:01:57They got him.
- 1:01:58They said, get outta the car, put your hands up, get down
- 1:02:00on the ground, or whatever.
- 1:02:02He doesn't comply because he was offering them a white claw, so they had to respond.
- 1:02:08Oh boy.
- 1:02:09Dude goes down like a feld tree.
- 1:02:12Did they tase him?
- 1:02:13He's barefoot too.
- 1:02:14It's funny.
- 1:02:15He's becomes outta that van barefoot if they tase his ass and he just lump.
- 1:02:19And then when they finally like cut the video back to when they woken him up,
- 1:02:23he goes, you guys had fun though, right?
- 1:02:28How many vodka spritzers did he have?
- 1:02:30And his head looks like he hit more than just a pavement.
- 1:02:34Well, I think he's got face tattoos and stuff too.
- 1:02:36He's all bloodied up and everything.
- 1:02:38I swear this is, it's like a jackass video.
- 1:02:41He also wasn't a head on collision.
- 1:02:42So if Daniel was a Florida man, this
- 1:02:48my cousin, and it would be a square body.
- 1:02:50Oh my god.
- 1:02:51A square body might have survived and it would be a bottle of jack, not a spritzer.
- 1:02:55All right, so this last one is so far I. Taking the top prize of insanity,
- 1:03:01and this is the theme of people that are just nuts, like the Lexus guy.
- 1:03:06So you really gotta like, watch the, this woman.
- 1:03:10So apparently the, the driver of this Nissan like honked at her because she cut
- 1:03:15out in front of her and the Nissan lady had to slam on her brakes not to hit her.
- 1:03:18So she honked the horn.
- 1:03:19This woman gets out of her car, gets on the hood of this woman's car,
- 1:03:23starts yelling, she's gonna kill her.
- 1:03:25Rips the windshield wipers off, starts beating on the glass.
- 1:03:28I was filled with my own rage watching this.
- 1:03:31'cause I was like, if I was in that car and this woman was on my car beating
- 1:03:36it, I don't know what I would've done.
- 1:03:38I would, I would've hit the gas and I would put it in reverse.
- 1:03:41I would hit reverse and knocked her ass off the car.
- 1:03:44Person in the car isn't even reacting.
- 1:03:46Are we sure this wasn't like a stunt?
- 1:03:47Well, they arrested that lady.
- 1:03:48No.
- 1:03:49So they interviewed the woman in the car.
- 1:03:51I don't know.
- 1:03:51To her credit, she remained perfectly calm and let that woman rage out.
- 1:03:55I guess she, I don't know if she called 9 1 1 or other people apparently stopped,
- 1:03:58took the keys outta the other woman's car while she was busy banging on this woman.
- 1:04:01Some dude like went and took the keys outta her car and then she stopped, tried
- 1:04:04to get in her car, couldn't start it.
- 1:04:07And then she started like going at the dude who took her keys.
- 1:04:11She also seemed like she might have been strung out on something.
- 1:04:14So I'm wondering if she had an overreaction to this situation.
- 1:04:17How many people were filming this?
- 1:04:19Because there's like four camera angles goes back to our
- 1:04:22social media humanity crisis.
- 1:04:25Instead of helping, instead of like four people going and grabbing this woman,
- 1:04:28which actually they probably shouldn't because then they end up getting sued.
- 1:04:31'cause that's the humanity we also live in.
- 1:04:34Yeah.
- 1:04:34They just sit there and film instead.
- 1:04:35That is amazing stuff.
- 1:04:37Springtime is the best time for the crazies to come out.
- 1:04:41They're outta hibernation now.
- 1:04:42They're getting those D vitamins from the sun and all that.
- 1:04:45They're just like, they are ready to rock and roll.
- 1:04:47Woo Damn Florida.
- 1:04:49Except this was in Brad's backyard.
- 1:04:51Yeah, I just, I just realized that this is in Virginia.
- 1:04:53This is on the way to VIR.
- 1:04:55Well folks, we've reached that point of the episode.
- 1:04:58The most important part.
- 1:04:59So this really should be a showcase.
- 1:05:01We're gonna go behind the pit wall, talk about motor sports
- 1:05:04news, and before we talk about.
- 1:05:07The really, really important stuff.
- 1:05:08I wanna highlight a couple of things for you guys.
- 1:05:10WRC, I know I said I wasn't gonna talk about WRC and I'm
- 1:05:14not wasting my time on WRC.
- 1:05:16This was this season.
- 1:05:17You guys have convinced me to devote my life to Formula One.
- 1:05:21Oh my God, for the year 2025.
- 1:05:23Violin.
- 1:05:24Oh, it's a big violin.
- 1:05:25We're gonna get to it here in a second.
- 1:05:27WRC, I gotta hand it to 'em.
- 1:05:29They're gonna be the first one in the FIA to bring back swearing.
- 1:05:33So watch out Formula One.
- 1:05:34Watch out Max.
- 1:05:35For staffing.
- 1:05:36You can curse all you want because Rally is leading the charge.
- 1:05:40Yeah, I don't think so.
- 1:05:43Just wait.
- 1:05:44Just wait.
- 1:05:44They people own WRC.
- 1:05:46It's all the FIA.
- 1:05:48All right.
- 1:05:49All right.
- 1:05:49Meanwhile, in WEC, IMSA and SRO News, we talked earlier about Hyundai coming
- 1:05:54to LAMA and going into endurance racing.
- 1:05:58Well, they're not the only ones that have announced that they're going in
- 1:06:01back into the greatest race in the world.
- 1:06:03Ford had announced Aston Martin is made a comeback.
- 1:06:06You saw them racing their new car at Sebring earlier.
- 1:06:09This.
- 1:06:09Season, but also McLaren is throwing their name and they haven't run a car
- 1:06:15since the McLaren F1 back in the nineties.
- 1:06:18So they're coming back to WEC in 2027.
- 1:06:21So if everybody sticks around, let's just say Cadillac and EO and Porsche
- 1:06:25and Ferrari, everybody's there in two years, it is going to be one
- 1:06:28of the most spectacular LAMA we've ever seen because that front end
- 1:06:33GTP class is going to be jam packed.
- 1:06:36They're not even gonna let LMP two cars run.
- 1:06:38That's how many manufacturers there's gonna be and it's
- 1:06:40gonna be freaking awesome.
- 1:06:41It's gonna be like the old days when you just saw prototype
- 1:06:45after prototype after prototype.
- 1:06:46And I am super stoked to see more and more brands pony and up to run at lama.
- 1:06:51So speaking of lama, I just wanna drop this in there as well.
- 1:06:54The A-C-O-U-S-A who we proudly partner with as part of our evening with the
- 1:06:57Legend series is sponsoring not one LAMA viewing party this year, but.
- 1:07:02Two ding, ding, ding.
- 1:07:04That's two.
- 1:07:05One will be held at the A RCF.
- 1:07:07That's the Automobile Racing Club of Florida at Sebring International Raceway.
- 1:07:11And that'll be start to dark at Sebring.
- 1:07:14And the second one, some of us from the Motoring Podcast Network
- 1:07:18will be attending and helping to be part of Simione Foundation Museums.
- 1:07:2224 hour viewing and camp out as they like to call it event at
- 1:07:26their museum in Philadelphia.
- 1:07:28So there's a full schedule of not only events that are happening at the Sione
- 1:07:32Museum, but also the round the clock demos that they'll be running of famous
- 1:07:38cars like the Paisley nine 17 Ferraris, Aston Martin, DBR one Jaguars, and
- 1:07:44things like that, that they'll be running all throughout the day and the night
- 1:07:47there in the parking lot of the museum.
- 1:07:49So if you wanna come and meet Legends of Lama, if you wanna meet some of the
- 1:07:52folks from the NPN, we will be at the Ion Foundation over LAMA weekend and you can
- 1:07:57buy tickets for as cheap as $24 because of the 24 hours of Lama, I've delayed enough.
- 1:08:03I've procrastinated.
- 1:08:05We have to talk about formula.
- 1:08:06Uh.
- 1:08:17Again, I've devoted 2025 to watching every race to the Formula one.
- 1:08:21See you guys.
- 1:08:22I didn't know you called me out.
- 1:08:24You said, what do I know?
- 1:08:25I'm not a fan.
- 1:08:27I don't watch blah, blah, blah, yada yada.
- 1:08:30Hamilton's gonna be the best.
- 1:08:31You're gonna see Ferrari, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:08:34The Mercedes is inferior.
- 1:08:36I don't think we went that far.
- 1:08:37Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:08:39I think we've just said we couldn't count him out yet.
- 1:08:41Yeah.
- 1:08:42We said he's not gonna be a back marker.
- 1:08:44Like Eric said he was going to be.
- 1:08:46Oh, really?
- 1:08:47Oh really?
- 1:08:47And I told you, and I'll put money on this, that by the third race I.
- 1:08:51He would cement exactly how he was gonna do for the rest of the season.
- 1:08:54And we're at what race?
- 1:08:55Five now?
- 1:08:56Yes.
- 1:08:57We've had five races I would say.
- 1:09:00I don't know yet.
- 1:09:01He, he's not gonna win a championship this year, that's for sure.
- 1:09:04Not gonna win one next year either.
- 1:09:05He's so far been in the top 10 for the five races.
- 1:09:08Ninth is in the top 10.
- 1:09:10Yeah, you're right.
- 1:09:10No, he's currently sixth in points.
- 1:09:13He's not ninth.
- 1:09:14His best finish was fifth.
- 1:09:15Technically his best finish was first in the sprint race.
- 1:09:18It doesn't count.
- 1:09:19But nonetheless, ball rain in the middle of that race.
- 1:09:22Both he and Le Claire, there was like a light switch moment where they
- 1:09:26were like flying around the track.
- 1:09:28I don't know what turbo mushroom they got when they went into
- 1:09:30pit, when they came back out.
- 1:09:32I mean there was like night and day and they were like flying around the track.
- 1:09:35They were gaining time and then it's like, I think they went back for like
- 1:09:38another pit stop and suddenly like the mushroom wore off or something.
- 1:09:41So that was disappointing.
- 1:09:42It's like, remember Mario Kart 64 where you got the gold mushroom?
- 1:09:46And you kept hitting the button as fast as you could.
- 1:09:48Yes.
- 1:09:49Because you wanted to go, you know, the super boost and then when
- 1:09:51it ran out you were like, oh no, that was the middle of that race.
- 1:09:55It was like, holy shit.
- 1:09:56Like the Ferrari suddenly like work software upgrade.
- 1:09:59Yeah.
- 1:10:00They didn't pay their subscription fees.
- 1:10:01Yeah, it was what it was.
- 1:10:03They only did a temporary subscription.
- 1:10:05It was.
- 1:10:05First 30 minutes free, wasn't it?
- 1:10:07That there wasn't there a yellow and they had put mediums on and everybody
- 1:10:11else put sauce or something like that.
- 1:10:12Their pit strategy is garbage.
- 1:10:14Yes.
- 1:10:15It was something with the tires, like they were doing really well on the tires they
- 1:10:17had and then they switched off of them and then suddenly it was like garbage.
- 1:10:20And it was like, why did you switch to these?
- 1:10:21'cause you already knew from another team that these were
- 1:10:23garbage and yet you chose them.
- 1:10:25Winning strategy.
- 1:10:26Great job.
- 1:10:27Well, Ferrari's gonna Ferrari.
- 1:10:28Yeah.
- 1:10:29And they do.
- 1:10:30It's so dumb.
- 1:10:30Unfortunately, if you'd watch the last like three, four seasons, they
- 1:10:34literally make the most bonehead.
- 1:10:37Decisions, whether it's timing of pitting their people, the order
- 1:10:41of pitting them, team orders in general, the value of their pit stops,
- 1:10:45the value of their tire choices.
- 1:10:47They usually make the most astine choices, and then they
- 1:10:51suffer and they lose position.
- 1:10:52So yes, Ferrari's gonna, Ferrari has become a thing because of the
- 1:10:55way they've managed themselves over the last several seasons.
- 1:10:58As a Tizi, I'm gonna die of a very old age, like I'm gonna live to be 200 waiting
- 1:11:03for Ferrari to win a championship again.
- 1:11:05Like this is unreal.
- 1:11:07The Keystone cop garbage that I've been watching, like this is why
- 1:11:10I stopped watching Formula One.
- 1:11:12And every race is painful because it's like, what are you clowns doing?
- 1:11:16And then last year, if you go back even to the Formula One special and all that
- 1:11:19kind of stuff I talked about, you wanna tell me that Mercedes can't build a car?
- 1:11:23You guys are, oh, what's inferior?
- 1:11:25And Adrian Newey.
- 1:11:26Over a Red Bull.
- 1:11:27It was.
- 1:11:29It was Period.
- 1:11:29And it's all bullshit.
- 1:11:30It's all bullshit.
- 1:11:31No.
- 1:11:31Adrian Newey goes to Aston Martin and nothing changes.
- 1:11:34He's not doing anything yet, that's why.
- 1:11:36Well, yeah, because apparently they're making cars with scribes and ads
- 1:11:40and stuff from the Egyptian period.
- 1:11:42I don't know what the deal is with this magician, Adrian Newey.
- 1:11:46Okay.
- 1:11:46That apparently anytime he's been on the team that they've won the
- 1:11:49Constructors for like the last 30 years or something like that.
- 1:11:52I don't have any idea.
- 1:11:53I really couldn't give a shit.
- 1:11:54But if you watch the other races, the straight line speed and the out
- 1:11:58of cornering speed of the Red Bull was incomparable with anybody else.
- 1:12:02They were cheating.
- 1:12:03It passed the Mercedes and shit like it was parked in the paddock.
- 1:12:06But the Mercedes this year, because they do upgrades every year at
- 1:12:10the end of the season, the car is different and they change something.
- 1:12:13Does Ferrari do downgrades every year?
- 1:12:15Yes.
- 1:12:16Yes they do.
- 1:12:16Downgrades?
- 1:12:17Yes, a hundred percent.
- 1:12:18Just like Mercedes did a big downgrade last year 'cause their car was
- 1:12:22garbage compared to the year before.
- 1:12:24Apparently they can't get their electronics right as we saw with Russell.
- 1:12:27Which race was it?
- 1:12:28Bahrain?
- 1:12:29I don't remember.
- 1:12:30But yeah, his timing system basically shut the whole everything down on the
- 1:12:34track and he still survived without it.
- 1:12:37It was amazing.
- 1:12:38Well, he barely made it because on like the last lap, it was like his whole car.
- 1:12:42Remember I joked, it was like, I was like, dude is like gonna have total
- 1:12:45electrical failure and he is gonna not make it to the end of the race.
- 1:12:48It was like the last lap.
- 1:12:49He's like, uh, guys, uh, my steering wheel's not working anymore.
- 1:12:52Like something wasn't working and it was like the car was shutting down.
- 1:12:55Yeah.
- 1:12:55I don't think he had any more lap in it.
- 1:12:58Outside of all that.
- 1:12:59I mean, Mercedes is doing great.
- 1:13:00Red Bull's doing Red Bull, Ferraris, whatever.
- 1:13:03China was, meh.
- 1:13:04Suzuka was a complete snooze fest.
- 1:13:08So boring for such a legacy track with so much character and so much history.
- 1:13:12And you watch the old races of, you know, Sena at Suzuka, the track
- 1:13:16hasn't changed other than the repaid.
- 1:13:18The cars have changed.
- 1:13:19The cars are twice as long as Senna's days.
- 1:13:21Yeah, I mean it's an exaggeration, but they're so much bigger.
- 1:13:24The rules are different.
- 1:13:26The parody is different.
- 1:13:27So boring.
- 1:13:29Basically watching it to finally one day be there to see something happen.
- 1:13:33Because honestly, after the first couple opening laps where you're
- 1:13:36checking to see if they don't wreck and turn one or wreck anywhere in the
- 1:13:39first lap, it basically becomes an HPD where they're just going around awful.
- 1:13:44And then Bahrain was the most exciting race so far.
- 1:13:47Hands down.
- 1:13:48That was really good.
- 1:13:49And then Saudi is like a go-kart track.
- 1:13:52There is no space.
- 1:13:54There's zero space for error, as we saw with Sonota in the
- 1:13:57second turn of the first lap.
- 1:13:59What the heck are you guys doing?
- 1:14:00And then.
- 1:14:00You know, max cutting off, turn two because there was no room and
- 1:14:03that whole debate and debacle.
- 1:14:05But that track was boring.
- 1:14:06Like once they set their pace, it wasn't any better than Monaco
- 1:14:09where there's, there's no room to pass because the cars are too big.
- 1:14:12So the whole excitement of Formula One in the old days was then
- 1:14:15cutting it up and dicing it up.
- 1:14:16And why can't we go back to the smaller wheel based card?
- 1:14:19'cause then they'd be slower and then they can't be slower.
- 1:14:23Do they really have to do 200 miles an hour?
- 1:14:25I mean, that's what the endurance cars do, right?
- 1:14:27Or more than 200 to do like two 30, but they've got the space to do it.
- 1:14:31I think they should go back to manual gear boxes also to make it more interesting.
- 1:14:34Yeah.
- 1:14:35The whole tire thing is dumb and the pit stop strategies are weird and
- 1:14:39well, and there's no more refueling.
- 1:14:40So you took that variable out of it.
- 1:14:42Like you didn't have the guy running outta fuel in the last lap, you
- 1:14:44know, had the minimum fuel load.
- 1:14:46So it was lightweight and going faster and miscalculated.
- 1:14:48I noticed this year they got rid of the whole energy thing where they have
- 1:14:52the virtual refueling that's gone.
- 1:14:54Right.
- 1:14:54I haven't seen that again.
- 1:14:55They don't really highlight it too much.
- 1:14:57That was an F1.
- 1:14:58That was in M ssa.
- 1:15:00That was uh Lama.
- 1:15:01Oh, maybe you're right.
- 1:15:02There is a thing where they gotta do something but they
- 1:15:04don't usually publicize.
- 1:15:06Well anyway, Hamilton is not doing so great.
- 1:15:08He's not impressing.
- 1:15:09There's lots of excuses, if you will.
- 1:15:11That's the right word for it.
- 1:15:13I know if you wanna say excuses, but explanations that he gives.
- 1:15:15I like the latest one he was talking about was how different the brakes on
- 1:15:20the Ferrari are from what he is used to.
- 1:15:21And he said, we made a point of saying that he is never engine braked.
- 1:15:25Like ever.
- 1:15:26And that's something that you do in the Ferraris.
- 1:15:28And so he is not used to it.
- 1:15:29Which if that's true, I mean, you could lose a lot of time if
- 1:15:33your break points aren't correct.
- 1:15:34But if they're using engine braking, then that means they can go deeper
- 1:15:38into the corners and use the engine to help slow the car down.
- 1:15:41It's not like the braking zones became longer as a result of it.
- 1:15:43'cause Le Claire isn't complaining about those problems.
- 1:15:46Yeah.
- 1:15:46But Le Claire's been driving the car for like five seasons or
- 1:15:49something, so he's gotten used to it.
- 1:15:51Million time world champion.
- 1:15:52Louis Hamilton doesn't know how to drive a Formula one car.
- 1:15:54Is that what you're telling me?
- 1:15:55I've never driven a Formula One car.
- 1:15:57I don't know how easy it is to go from one to the other.
- 1:16:00It's like spec me.
- 1:16:01They're all the same, right?
- 1:16:02I mean, come on.
- 1:16:04I mean, in theory the, it's all the same, but how do you eek out your 12 tenths.
- 1:16:08Yeah, you eek it out when you're 18 years old and not 40 or 65 like Alonzo.
- 1:16:14And that might be true, although Alonzo had like, I forget how many,
- 1:16:17like a hundred points last season.
- 1:16:19Like he actually podiums once, no, in the first like 10 races.
- 1:16:23I think he was on the podium every time.
- 1:16:25And then the car like totally would became like an ass.
- 1:16:27I don't know what they did.
- 1:16:28They upgraded it.
- 1:16:29They downgraded it.
- 1:16:30Eric, you're just an ageist.
- 1:16:31No, I, okay.
- 1:16:33Look at the rest of the field.
- 1:16:34The median age of the drivers.
- 1:16:37I mean, come on.
- 1:16:37They're all in their early twenties.
- 1:16:39It's funny how he like rooting against, 'cause in fact, like I'd
- 1:16:42love to see somebody who's 40 years old go out and kick the ass of all
- 1:16:45the 18-year-old new rookie drivers.
- 1:16:48Yeah, I, I think he's just being contrarian because people like
- 1:16:51Lewis probably like, oh fuck, Lewis Hamilton, he never liked Lewis.
- 1:16:55So that's part of it too.
- 1:16:56This is just like when Lada spent one too many seasons behind the wheel and he
- 1:17:00should have retired earlier than he did.
- 1:17:02I mean, that's probably true, but they've all done it.
- 1:17:04Schumacher.
- 1:17:05Should have stopped those two seasons with Mercedes were crap.
- 1:17:08He should have never done that.
- 1:17:09Like a hundred percent.
- 1:17:10I don't disagree with that.
- 1:17:11And he was in his forties as well.
- 1:17:12And no, I'm not saying that, you know, somebody in their forties
- 1:17:15or 65 like Alonzo couldn't win a race or win a championship.
- 1:17:20But the point is.
- 1:17:21He's not showing any enthusiasm, like even the background shots of
- 1:17:25Hamilton, like he's disconnected.
- 1:17:27They keep saying he doesn't get along with his race engineer.
- 1:17:29There's all these excuses, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:17:31Then why did you leave Mercedes?
- 1:17:33Because obviously the Mercedes suddenly got better overnight or did
- 1:17:36it get better because you weren't there sucking in the driver's seat?
- 1:17:40So which is it?
- 1:17:41I am throwing shade, but I'm not trying to be any sort of way to be like, look,
- 1:17:44if you can't do it, then hang it up.
- 1:17:46There's a lot of young drivers in F two that wanna move up and other people
- 1:17:50that want an opportunity, and both him and Alonzo are sucking up a seat as
- 1:17:54the second chair collecting a paycheck.
- 1:17:57Go do something else.
- 1:17:58Go race at Lamont.
- 1:17:59Go do touring car.
- 1:18:00I don't care what you do.
- 1:18:01But in Formula One, I think he's done.
- 1:18:03I don't think even if Hamilton runs another couple of years.
- 1:18:06And say he goes to 43 or 44 like Alonzo is, that's his real age folks.
- 1:18:11That's another four years.
- 1:18:13I don't think he's got a championship in the next four years.
- 1:18:16I just don't see it.
- 1:18:17I don't see it with Ferrari.
- 1:18:18So who does he go to?
- 1:18:19Is he gonna go Red Bull?
- 1:18:20Is he gonna pull a Sena and go to like he did with going
- 1:18:22to Williams in his last year?
- 1:18:24And then Well that, we know how that ended.
- 1:18:25But the point is.
- 1:18:27All that shuffling around.
- 1:18:28I think the younger guys, they just have the advantage and I've
- 1:18:31been impressed 'cause we make fun.
- 1:18:33Haas with Toyota has been doing really great this season and
- 1:18:37Williams has been shockingly good.
- 1:18:39Bottom of the barrel teams, unfortunately Salberg just there.
- 1:18:43Williams was middle pack last year also.
- 1:18:46So where they are right now is really no different than they're not suddenly
- 1:18:50a magic that they've never been before.
- 1:18:53Alban was doing pretty decently last year and then they've got the benefit of Carlos
- 1:18:58in the other car, which he was a higher.
- 1:19:01Position person when he was in Ferrari.
- 1:19:03So there's obviously a difference between two cars 'cause he's not
- 1:19:06in the top five at any point.
- 1:19:08Again, they're putting the cars together with chisels and spoons or something.
- 1:19:11I don't know.
- 1:19:11But they're all the same.
- 1:19:12It's, it's mi aup.
- 1:19:14Right?
- 1:19:15I that's what I'm saying.
- 1:19:16He should be able to take poll and be first again.
- 1:19:18Aston Martin should have come out the gate with Adrian Newey on the
- 1:19:21payroll and won the championship.
- 1:19:23Fernando Alonzo Champion 2025.
- 1:19:25He's not, and you even read the article that said that Newey has gone in there
- 1:19:29and said you all are sitting here with the most antiquated bullshit.
- 1:19:33Yes.
- 1:19:3320-year-old stuff.
- 1:19:34What is he gonna work with?
- 1:19:36It's gonna take him, God knows how many races and months before he gets
- 1:19:39things, probably how he wants it.
- 1:19:40And then he is gonna go somewhere else.
- 1:19:41Pretty much.
- 1:19:42Yeah.
- 1:19:42Not as long as Daddy stroll's.
- 1:19:44Pain.
- 1:19:44Daddy wore once a dollar.
- 1:19:45The Sonota Liam Lawson thing is hilarious.
- 1:19:49It's not surprising at all to anyone who's, who knows how
- 1:19:52the Red Bull people operate.
- 1:19:53This was a zero shock and should have been seen coming a mile away.
- 1:19:58It's amazing how they could just switch, but then.
- 1:20:00It's not amazing because it's all the same team.
- 1:20:02They have four cars.
- 1:20:04One's a junior team and one's a senior team, and they can move
- 1:20:07drivers around all day long.
- 1:20:08It's not like they fired him.
- 1:20:09They would've fired his ass anyway.
- 1:20:10'cause they did that with the junior team last year.
- 1:20:12They got rid of a driver completely.
- 1:20:14Yeah.
- 1:20:14If they didn't like suno enough to move him up, they probably
- 1:20:16would've gotten somebody from anywhere else and brought him in.
- 1:20:19They don't give a shit.
- 1:20:19Do you think he's gonna make it to the end of the year?
- 1:20:21I don't know.
- 1:20:22Because if they're gonna, I don't know.
- 1:20:25When he didn't crash out, he was okay.
- 1:20:27He was better than Liam at least.
- 1:20:29So they probably gonna give him a little bit more of a chance.
- 1:20:32But if he starts wrecking every race or finishing in the bottom, I don't know
- 1:20:36if there's like a driver swap limit in a season, they'll bring BOTAs in.
- 1:20:40That's what they'll do.
- 1:20:41Oh no.
- 1:20:41It is a Mercedes as a backup driver.
- 1:20:43Nevermind.
- 1:20:43They'll bring back Checko a check.
- 1:20:45Checko or Daniel Ricardo.
- 1:20:47They're like, yeah, we'll settle for Ricardo.
- 1:20:49It's fine.
- 1:20:49We'll just bring him back.
- 1:20:50It'll be okay.
- 1:20:51It's gotta be better than this.
- 1:20:52So there's other controversy going on, allegedly, supposedly, maybe.
- 1:20:57This is again, hokey pokey, and I read this on the Audi Club news that
- 1:21:02V tens could be returning, but Audi's not happy about that because that
- 1:21:06goes against their whole EV thing.
- 1:21:08So they're taking a stand and they might pull out, but they might stay in.
- 1:21:11But I don't know what's going on, but I'm excited.
- 1:21:13V tens returning to Formula One.
- 1:21:15Hallelujah.
- 1:21:15That's awesome.
- 1:21:16The latest says they're not gonna do the V tens, but.
- 1:21:19Who knows again, the hokey pokey.
- 1:21:21But in some Formula one Florida man, you mentioned Carlos, you had me
- 1:21:26cracking up about this the other day.
- 1:21:28Phyllis in feel bad for the guy 'cause he got a 10,000 euro fine that he had
- 1:21:32to pay for being five seconds late to the Japanese anthem as it was playing at
- 1:21:37the very beginning of the festivities.
- 1:21:39So with tariffs, that's like $50,000 if you do the math.
- 1:21:43I mean, he's set to make $10 million this year.
- 1:21:45Oh, it's nothing.
- 1:21:46It's the, yeah, it's the equip.
- 1:21:47It's 10 basis points.
- 1:21:49It's it's point.
- 1:21:50It's not that he can't afford it, it's nothing.
- 1:21:52Yeah, it's the point.
- 1:21:52It's like really?
- 1:21:54It's like I was late 'cause I was having a bathroom emergency.
- 1:21:57He's making a big stink about it.
- 1:21:59He literally flushed money down the toilet.
- 1:22:01Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:02And they have very strict protocols and rules in F1 about being where
- 1:22:06you need to be and all that stuff.
- 1:22:07And he actually received a 50% penalty 'cause they took pity on him.
- 1:22:11And the reason he was late was because he literally had to go to the bathroom.
- 1:22:16Number two.
- 1:22:17He even has a medical doctor saying that he was having stomach issues
- 1:22:23and that like legitimately, yeah.
- 1:22:25Like he had to go to the bathroom and they, they were like, no, we're still
- 1:22:28gonna give you a 10,000 Euro penalty.
- 1:22:30So basically stand there and crap, your pants is the better answer than being
- 1:22:35a human and having like a gastro issue.
- 1:22:38He should get sponsored by Pepto.
- 1:22:40That's what he should do.
- 1:22:54All right.
- 1:22:54Our Motor Sports News is brought to us in partnership with the
- 1:22:57International Motor Racing Research Center, and they closed out their
- 1:23:01Corvette sweepstakes, but that's okay.
- 1:23:03There's another one coming in right behind it.
- 1:23:05You get your chance to enter to win a 2025 Porsche nine 11
- 1:23:09T. That's valued at $137,000.
- 1:23:13If you haven't been to Porsche's website lately, and that's a
- 1:23:15manual transmission car, or you can take a $75,000 cash option.
- 1:23:20So if you think about that, you know for 20 bucks, couple of entries or double
- 1:23:23down and add one of their promo codes for like 20% more tickets, you could have
- 1:23:27$137,000 nine 11 sitting in your driveway.
- 1:23:31Details available@racingarchives.org and then click on sweepstakes
- 1:23:35in the upper right corner.
- 1:23:37Brad, take us home.
- 1:23:38As a reminder, you can find tons of upcoming local shows and events
- 1:23:41at the ultimate reference for car enthusiast, collector car guy.net.
- 1:23:45And now for the G TM Trackside report.
- 1:23:47Couple of quick pieces of news.
- 1:23:49NJMP now has a try before you buy Members Club option, and we got a
- 1:23:53listing not only of those events but their new bike track days.
- 1:23:58Courtesy of NJ MP's partnership with revzilla, they'll be bringing 12
- 1:24:03motorcycle track days to NJMP in 2025 and carrying those over into 2026.
- 1:24:08So check out our calendar and theirs for those details.
- 1:24:11And speaking of NJMP, if you are an HPDE instructor, NJMP is leading
- 1:24:17the charge with stricter rules.
- 1:24:19They've had all sorts of paddock enforcement with the state police
- 1:24:22and all these things that they gotta do, and we're used to at NJMP.
- 1:24:25Now you have to be, and I'll repeat, you have to be MSF.
- 1:24:30That's Motorsport Safety Foundation level two certified to instruct on
- 1:24:34any of the courses at the NJMP campus.
- 1:24:37We learned about this through an email sent to us by hooked on Driving, and
- 1:24:40they are having an upcoming MSF Level two class scheduled for May the second at
- 1:24:46Pocono Raceways North Circuit, followed by an event on the May 3rd weekend.
- 1:24:51So that'll be on the mega circuit.
- 1:24:52There's other opportunities to get your MSF level two training, so this
- 1:24:55is a great way to renew or get up.
- 1:24:58Graded to level two.
- 1:24:59Also, please note that organizers and sanctioning bodies can check your MSF
- 1:25:04level two rating very quickly 'cause it's verifiable online via Motorsport Reg,
- 1:25:09it is unclear to us at this time though, that other tracks are gonna be enforcing
- 1:25:14this sort of mandatory certification.
- 1:25:16So just keep that in mind.
- 1:25:18But there are tracks that do follow the precedent that NJMP sets out, so you know
- 1:25:24they may require that proper training and those credentials in the future.
- 1:25:27Don't forget, if you're looking for that extra special automobilia to complete your
