- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the very noisy chicken coop.
- 0:31I am not sure what has got these girls all worked up, but they
- 0:33are all chattering like crazy right now.
- 0:36So Carl Sagan, we've all heard of him, we all understand this
- 0:40man was brilliant. And he is very, very famous for
- 0:43talking about how curiosity was such a powerful tool.
- 0:47But he made this really great quote or he was talking, it was
- 0:51during a talk and he was saying how he loved to talk to
- 0:54kindergarteners and 1st grade kids because they were always
- 0:57enthusiasts. They always had the most energy.
- 0:59They showed up with deep questions and they would ask,
- 1:02you know, write things about like, you know, why is the moon
- 1:05round and you know, what is the birthday of the earth and all
- 1:09this stuff? What makes grass green?
- 1:10How do stars stay in the sky? And it was just always
- 1:15fascinating to him how the kids would come up with these really,
- 1:18really big questions, which any of you are regular followers
- 1:22know. I was always put in the corner
- 1:24for asking these kinds of questions in school because I
- 1:26was taking them off topic as I heard so many times.
- 1:29However, my, I never, you know, wanted to put aside my
- 1:33curiosity. Now, he's also goes on in this
- 1:35talk to say, you know, it's very sad to him that when by the time
- 1:40you get to 12th grade, by the time you get to college, people
- 1:44have become incurious, that there is something terribly
- 1:48wrong and something awful has happened because they lose it
- 1:52somewhere between kindergarten and college.
- 1:55They lose their level of curiosity.
- 1:58And you have to work to remain curious.
- 2:02And I think that this is such a powerful point for him to make
- 2:06and a powerful point for us to consider.
- 2:08Because if you are not being curious, if you are not working
- 2:11consistently on your curiosity, then you are settling for being
- 2:15incurious, which is something that I can't comprehend.
- 2:19I don't even, I truly cannot even comprehend what it's like
- 2:23to be incurious because for me, it's just a natural part of who
- 2:28I am. And it drives every single day.
- 2:30It drives. You know, I just did an update
- 2:32on my iPhone and they're all new features in the new version of
- 2:38the update. And I was like, so curious about
- 2:41it. I said I just have to sit here
- 2:42and mess around with it for 30 minutes, not because of anything
- 2:46other than my curiosity about what more can it do?
- 2:49What more can it do? And boy, I learned that you can
- 2:52record phone calls now right from the phone call screen.
- 2:56So if I come on with a client, and often they have said to me,
- 2:58God, I wish we recorded these calls so I could go back and
- 3:01listen to them. Well, lo and behold, guess what?
- 3:03I can do that now for them. But by just touching the little
- 3:07wavelength up in the left corner, who knew that that was
- 3:10even there? They don't tell you that in the
- 3:12updates, but until you start messing around with it or you go
- 3:15on and you look at the tech review somewhere on YouTube, you
- 3:19can figure out what did they put in there, which is a valuable
- 3:22thing. Again, curiosity driven.
- 3:25But when you go back and you consider what Mr. Sagan said and
- 3:29you consider how much you've lost your curiosity, now is the
- 3:34time to say how can I cultivate that and start to bring it back
- 3:38to life? What are the things?
- 3:39Am I in curious or am I curious and how often do you use that
- 3:44word in your daily life? Do you actually say I'm curious?
- 3:48Now I have a tendency to use that word a lot.
- 3:51That is one of my favorite words to use and I actually love using
- 3:56it because it makes me feel like I'm on point when I'm saying I'm
- 3:59curious and I say it to clients all the time.
- 4:02I I will try giving my chickens different food to say, hey, I'm
- 4:06curious, what are you guys going to eat?
- 4:07Do you like this? Do you not like this?
- 4:09And sometimes they look at me and gave them a bunch of carrots
- 4:11the other day and they looked at me like I was it's insane for
- 4:13giving them carrots until one brave one packed it and then the
- 4:16rest of them were still like, no, this is not happening.
- 4:19But I was curious and and playing that role of being
- 4:23curious is really powerful. So as ask yourself, when's the
- 4:28last time I said the word curious about myself?
- 4:31I'm curious when's the last time you said to another human?
- 4:34I'm curious, when's the last time you said?
- 4:36I'm going to do 5 curious things today to find out more.
- 4:39I'm going to just walk in a bookstore and I'm going to go,
- 4:42this is one of my favorite things to do.
- 4:43Go to a bookstore and just go to different book categories and
- 4:47pull off a book. The first one that the cover is
- 4:49like intriguing to you and just look at it.
- 4:52And now, granted, you may come home with a lot of books and I'm
- 4:55a big fan of books, but it, it, it makes you also consider all
- 5:00different things. Trying new foods.
- 5:02When's the last time you tried a new food?
- 5:04Like actually went and said, OK, I'm going to go try a different
- 5:07food. I'm going to go try something
- 5:09completely different that I have never tried or something maybe
- 5:12that you didn't like before. And now you're going to retry it
- 5:15again. It's very important, my friends.
- 5:17And again, this is the month that we are getting into that
- 5:21phase. So I want you to build your
- 5:23curiosity before anything else. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:27you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:30Bye.
