- 0:01Speaker 1: And here we go. It is the third hour and
- 0:05Speaker 1: it's the first Wednesday of the month. It's July second show,
- 0:07Speaker 1: fifty four six of the Morning Show with Preston Scott.
- 0:11Speaker 1: He's Jose, I'm Preston and this, Ladies and Gentlemen is
- 0:15Speaker 1: the one and only Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group,
- 0:19Speaker 1: co host of Talent Outdoors.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hello, good morning, how are you. I'm doing fantastic.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Tell everybody about the camo because I was just telling
- 0:27Speaker 1: you the camo is is that's sporty stuff that looks good.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Somebody coming on We were wearing camo and on one
- 0:35Speaker 2: of our TikTok videos from our show and somebody said
- 0:39Speaker 2: it was what credit? I mean? Oh man?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Was it was?
- 0:43Speaker 2: It's rough. You put yourself out there on that and
- 0:45Speaker 2: you get some insults. And I said, that's coming from
- 0:47Speaker 2: somebody wearing camouflages inside and I was thinking, so what
- 0:51Speaker 2: do you take yours off when you go inside? Or
- 0:54Speaker 2: what are you trying to say? No, but this is
- 0:56Speaker 2: a game Guard brand of shirts to Texas and we like, uh,
- 1:02Speaker 2: the put our logos on theaseily real comfortable, and we'd
- 1:05Speaker 2: sell the brand. It's the only thing only clothing. We
- 1:07Speaker 2: sell our stores branded stuff for talent. We're not trying
- 1:10Speaker 2: to get into clothing business. But uh, they had this
- 1:15Speaker 2: Texas version of Camo that we saw on one of
- 1:17Speaker 2: our hunting trips and and I didn't really like that
- 1:20Speaker 2: that version, and it came out with this digital version
- 1:22Speaker 2: and it's pretty cool.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's it's unlike a lot of Camo that I've seen,
- 1:27Speaker 1: because a lot of Camo is big, broad patterns. This
- 1:31Speaker 1: is more intricate, right, more detailed.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It's just it's different.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's like brush. It's a brush cameo.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's it's the digital camos are have a
- 1:41Speaker 2: different visual look. I mean, actually, I'm just using a
- 1:45Speaker 2: lot of words. Whatever. It looks cool. Yeah, how about that?
- 1:48Speaker 1: It does looks good.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And uh, we did the Hunter Orange logo on it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's just where are we talking about?
- 1:55Speaker 1: Well, because we are we a renaissance show, we talk
- 2:03Speaker 1: about anything and everything around.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Oh man, let's talk about hurting people. Yeah, especially bad
- 2:08Speaker 2: people in particular. I don't want to hurt anybody else.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I was just talking about and I don't know if
- 2:13Speaker 1: you caught it on the way in the Story of
- 2:15Speaker 1: a Pastor in Arizona that literally a guy broke into
- 2:19Speaker 1: his home and crucified him. I heard that and had
- 2:23Speaker 1: a hit list of other pastors.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:26Speaker 1: There is intelligence that I got I was privy to
- 2:30Speaker 1: that showed that there is active surveillance going on inside
- 2:34Speaker 1: Christian churches large and small across the country from people
- 2:38Speaker 1: that are just simply surveilling what the church does and
- 2:42Speaker 1: how they do it. We don't know why, it's just happening.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And then we have the active shooter situation in Michigan.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, there's a fine line between religious fanaticism and mental illness.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I mean, there's strong beliefs for one thing, but when
- 2:58Speaker 2: you want to hurt other people for them and you're
- 3:01Speaker 2: doing that, I mean, same thing on the right and
- 3:04Speaker 2: the left. I mean, there are crazy people everywhere, and
- 3:07Speaker 2: mental illness is a crisis in this country, and we
- 3:09Speaker 2: don't people. We don't put people away anymore. We don't
- 3:13Speaker 2: hospitalize them and pull them out of society. We leave
- 3:15Speaker 2: them roaming the streets, living in homeless camps and living
- 3:18Speaker 2: in neighborhoods.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And the number was seventy six percent of the people
- 3:22Speaker 1: homeless in the country are dealing with mental health issues.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And they roam the streets of Tallahasseelans County every day
- 3:27Speaker 2: all day and they're violent and people go, oh, poor them. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 2: well poor you if you're not careful, because you know,
- 3:34Speaker 2: you never know what's going to flip the switch. Yes,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and in the Michigan shooting, you know they're saying, well that, well,
- 3:42Speaker 2: we believe this meant this man suffered from mental illness.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well yeah, you think. I mean, he didn't leave any
- 3:49Speaker 2: kind of he didn't leave anything behind to explain what
- 3:53Speaker 2: his political agenda was. He remember, he'd been there a
- 3:57Speaker 2: few times and he and you say, okay, well we
- 4:01Speaker 2: have a church security team. Anybody that goes here, they
- 4:04Speaker 2: would never come here because they would know that we
- 4:06Speaker 2: have a church security team. Well he probably should have
- 4:09Speaker 2: known that, and he picked a fight that he was
- 4:13Speaker 2: that they were ready for. And see, that's what encourages me.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I mean, the tragedy of the event and the events
- 4:21Speaker 2: like this, and it was a Southerland Springs thinks, you know,
- 4:23Speaker 2: and that's what this guy was trying to emulate. He
- 4:25Speaker 2: was going back and that's this these you see things,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and that's why I don't like to publicize names and faces.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And thank you to that because I used I used
- 4:34Speaker 2: the faces of my active shooter courses to show that
- 4:37Speaker 2: there there's a variety of people, but I don't we
- 4:40Speaker 2: never say their name. So he saw what happened out there,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and I think he was trying to emulate that because
- 4:46Speaker 2: he set it up the same way. I'm going in
- 4:49Speaker 2: with a long gun and a handgun body armor. I'm
- 4:51Speaker 2: going I'm going to shoot up front of the church
- 4:52Speaker 2: and I'm going to make entry. Well, he didn't get
- 4:54Speaker 2: that opportunity because those people in that particular church were ready.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Let's talk about that Michigan situation, because in this case
- 5:02Speaker 1: there were active members of the security team that were involved,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but also a deacon that just was late to.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Church absolutely showed up, saw a person with a long gun,
- 5:12Speaker 2: of handgun and body armor going towards the church and
- 5:15Speaker 2: start shooting at the church and said, you know what,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I may not have a gun, but I've got a
- 5:20Speaker 2: four thousand pound full wheel weapon here. People just need
- 5:26Speaker 2: you need to understand that when deadly forces justified deadly
- 5:32Speaker 2: force of any kind, I mean you can drop a
- 5:35Speaker 2: bomb on them if you had one. You get in
- 5:37Speaker 2: trouble for having the bomb, But you know, ATF may
- 5:40Speaker 2: get involved, but the fact is is deadly force is
- 5:43Speaker 2: deadly force. Running someone over with the vehicle is a
- 5:46Speaker 2: very very viable option for you if such situation presents itself,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and in this case, it did. I will tell you that.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, I am very armed, and I am very trained,
- 5:58Speaker 2: and I am very prepared to help out in a situation.
- 6:01Speaker 2: But I mean, I know, you know, situational awareness, and
- 6:04Speaker 2: I go over things in my head, and I'm still
- 6:06Speaker 2: a law enforcement officer, and I still think like a
- 6:09Speaker 2: cop and always will even when I decide I don't
- 6:11Speaker 2: want those standards anymore. And I think about it. If
- 6:15Speaker 2: I'm driving down the interstate and I see a trooper
- 6:18Speaker 2: up ahead and he's involved in a shooting and he's
- 6:21Speaker 2: taking cover behind his car, and there's somebody there shooting
- 6:25Speaker 2: at the trooper, I'm running that dude over. I've already
- 6:27Speaker 2: played it over in my head. I know what I'm
- 6:29Speaker 2: gonna do. I mean, And that's that's how you react
- 6:32Speaker 2: quickly as you think about it. I wonder if that
- 6:34Speaker 2: person at the church that hero saved countless lives by intervening.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Were children performing a children's program.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And so I wonder had that person ever thought
- 6:47Speaker 2: about that situation or did they just pull that out
- 6:50Speaker 2: of the air when the time occurred. I'm thinking that
- 6:52Speaker 2: he probably considered it before, because it's hard to come
- 6:56Speaker 2: up with stuff like that on the spur of the moment,
- 6:59Speaker 2: it really is. I mean, so, I think that person
- 7:01Speaker 2: probably had considered what would I do if? And so
- 7:05Speaker 2: for all of the listeners out there, what would you
- 7:07Speaker 2: do if something like that occurred? And are you what
- 7:10Speaker 2: are you prepared to do to save lives? And what
- 7:13Speaker 2: are you physically and mentally prepared to do in any
- 7:17Speaker 2: situation that might come up? And I don't want you
- 7:19Speaker 2: to beat yourself up and walk around thinking, oh my lord,
- 7:22Speaker 2: what would I do if I go, you know, sitting
- 7:24Speaker 2: in a movie theater? What would Yeah? But I do
- 7:26Speaker 2: want you to consider the fact that where's the exit?
- 7:28Speaker 2: How many people are between you and there are you
- 7:30Speaker 2: close to? What? Do you? You know? Just just go
- 7:33Speaker 2: over it and then you get that pencil, that peace
- 7:35Speaker 2: of mind knowing that I have a plan, and you
- 7:37Speaker 2: can then relax a little bit and go I mean, yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 2: I sit in a restaurant with sort of facing the doors,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I sort of see what's coming and going I'm not
- 7:45Speaker 2: freaked out. I'm not being paranoid exactly. I just now
- 7:48Speaker 2: can settle in and feel a little more peaceful and
- 7:50Speaker 2: a little more relaxed, and i can enjoy my time
- 7:52Speaker 2: with my family because now I'm not concerned about what
- 7:55Speaker 2: was that noise I'm having to look over my shoulder.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I mean, it's not a paranoid life style. It's a
- 8:00Speaker 2: prepared lifestyle. And in churches, everybody in a church should
- 8:03Speaker 2: should be ready for that in case.
- 8:06Speaker 1: In the case of this shooting in Michigan, what's interesting
- 8:10Speaker 1: to me is not just the actions of the deacon
- 8:12Speaker 1: that hit him with the truck, but that that wasn't
- 8:14Speaker 1: all that ended it. The guy survived being hit by
- 8:18Speaker 1: the truck and was preparing to fire again, and that's
- 8:21Speaker 1: when the security team dispatched him.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Right. And if your church or your temple, or your
- 8:27Speaker 2: synagogue or whatever your house of worship is, if you
- 8:30Speaker 2: don't have an armed security team, then you are just
- 8:33Speaker 2: waiting to be a victim, or if you don't have security.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I have a security company and we work security at
- 8:40Speaker 2: local places houses of worship. And then there are the
- 8:43Speaker 2: people hire off duty law enforcement, and people have armed
- 8:46Speaker 2: teams as you very well know. And if you don't
- 8:50Speaker 2: have those things in place, it's like the school guardian
- 8:55Speaker 2: program would mean, if you don't have armed people in
- 8:57Speaker 2: the schools, if you don't have if you don't if
- 9:00Speaker 2: you if you hire security to work your business, and
- 9:04Speaker 2: you want I want unarmed security. Why you just want
- 9:07Speaker 2: somebody to get shot first? Because it's not gonna stop anything.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's not. It doesn't, it doesn't do anything. And I
- 9:13Speaker 2: struggle with the concept. You know, I teach active shooter
- 9:19Speaker 2: all the time for large organizations. And right now, with
- 9:23Speaker 2: everything going on, we're getting phone call.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And we are back Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training
- 9:31Speaker 1: Group with me our personal defense segment. We're talking about
- 9:34Speaker 1: the active shooters scenario in Michigan. What are specifics you said,
- 9:41Speaker 1: You've been getting plenty of calls, and I don't doubt
- 9:44Speaker 1: that at all. This segment sort of started based on
- 9:47Speaker 1: all of that.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yes it did. And thank you for all of the
- 9:50Speaker 2: all of the publicity over the years, because it's you know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I remember when this started with you. It was it
- 9:57Speaker 2: was it was just an idea to start talking about
- 10:01Speaker 2: how people could be safer in the community and over all,
- 10:03Speaker 2: of these years, and it's been a lot of years. Yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 2: I like to think we've made a difference in a
- 10:08Speaker 2: few people's lives. And certainly, you know, so what happened
- 10:12Speaker 2: after the FSU situation and the Michigan situation is that
- 10:18Speaker 2: and now you've got dambush firefighters and all this going
- 10:21Speaker 2: to You've got constantly and I part of my presentation
- 10:24Speaker 2: when I do active shooter training, and here's the thing is,
- 10:26Speaker 2: you can get active shooter training in a thirty minute
- 10:29Speaker 2: video online. You run hide fight there. You got that.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I saved you twenty nine minutes right there in forty
- 10:34Speaker 2: five seconds. You just run, hide, slash, barricade fight. That's
- 10:38Speaker 2: the jest of it. And you can bring in law
- 10:41Speaker 2: enforcement agencies and they do a fine job. I do
- 10:44Speaker 2: a less sanitized version. Yeah, you do a little less
- 10:47Speaker 2: politically correct. I'm not offensive, don't get me wrong. But
- 10:50Speaker 2: I talk about the things you have to do in
- 10:54Speaker 2: real life. And I talk about situational awareness, and I
- 10:56Speaker 2: talk about mental preparedness, and I talk about threat to
- 11:00Speaker 2: and I talk about what happens to us in critical
- 11:02Speaker 2: incident stress. All the things that we've covered over on
- 11:04Speaker 2: the show over the years and I try to cram
- 11:06Speaker 2: it into ninety minutes. I've got one organization wants in
- 11:09Speaker 2: an hour. Some I talk fast, but I'm going to
- 11:11Speaker 2: cover all the material. And you know it's it's from nonprofits.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I've said in my I've sat in my studio and
- 11:19Speaker 2: did nine states worth of nonprofits in a zoom meeting
- 11:22Speaker 2: one time for for active futer training.
- 11:24Speaker 1: It's mind if I laugh at that for a second,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I'm going to make fun of whoever the group is
- 11:28Speaker 1: it says they want it in an hour. That was
- 11:31Speaker 1: much to help us save our lives. But we need
- 11:33Speaker 1: you to do it.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's it's a scheduling issue and it's takes a half hour.
- 11:37Speaker 2: But I can, I can, I can. I can do it.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I just have to cut out the jokes and the
- 11:43Speaker 2: and the and the good times, and I have to
- 11:44Speaker 2: focus on the task at hand. But I've done it before.
- 11:47Speaker 1: What are the most important considerations? There are people listening
- 11:51Speaker 1: right now. They're part of houses of worship, They're part
- 11:54Speaker 1: of businesses and organizations that really need to be thinking
- 11:56Speaker 1: about this, and probably are. Whether they're talking about it
- 12:00Speaker 1: is another.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Story somebody there is.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So what what are the first considerations.
- 12:06Speaker 2: For let's okay, focus on houses of worship. First, you've
- 12:10Speaker 2: got to get past whoever is in charge of this organization,
- 12:13Speaker 2: be it a pastor some You've got to talk to
- 12:14Speaker 2: that person and try to get buy into the fact
- 12:17Speaker 2: that we need to protect this house of worship. We
- 12:19Speaker 2: need to protect our own. There are people there that
- 12:22Speaker 2: can't protect themselves. We owe it to them. Period. So
- 12:27Speaker 2: once you can get the idea that we need to
- 12:29Speaker 2: do something, then you need to make a decision. There's
- 12:31Speaker 2: three ways you can go about this. One you can
- 12:34Speaker 2: hire law enforcement to be there. If you have the
- 12:36Speaker 2: budget and the size of an organization to do that.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It's probably north of fifty bucks an hour. Now you're
- 12:43Speaker 2: getting somebody in on a Sunday or whatever day you're at.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Well, you really need you need more than someone, You
- 12:48Speaker 1: need more people.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's yours. That's plan A A uniform presence,
- 12:54Speaker 2: you know, be it armed security or law enforcement. I
- 12:57Speaker 2: mean you can those are your hire a mercenary to
- 13:02Speaker 2: come protect your place. That's what you're doing. You're getting
- 13:04Speaker 2: us older a fortune to come in there and get
- 13:07Speaker 2: paid to protect your house of worship. But that's just
- 13:09Speaker 2: the outer perimeter, Okay, But if you don't want to
- 13:13Speaker 2: go that router, you can't afford to spend the money,
- 13:15Speaker 2: then what you need to be doing is building your
- 13:18Speaker 2: own safety team. Now, is this team going to be
- 13:20Speaker 2: armed or unarmed? Well, if it's unarmed, you probably quit
- 13:24Speaker 2: listening to converse. You probably don't listen to this show
- 13:28Speaker 2: because your mindset is somewhere else. And if you're not
- 13:30Speaker 2: willing to arm yourself to protect, if you're not willing
- 13:32Speaker 2: to protect the lives of people by taking a life,
- 13:34Speaker 2: then you know we're not okay. Get you some bare
- 13:38Speaker 2: spray and put stack five people at the door and
- 13:41Speaker 2: tackle anybody. You don't know. I don't know what else
- 13:43Speaker 2: to tell you. I mean, it's dangerous. But once you've
- 13:47Speaker 2: approached the subject and you've decided we're going to do
- 13:50Speaker 2: something with armed citizenry in here within the organization needs
- 13:54Speaker 2: to just think about are we going to do this
- 13:56Speaker 2: as an organization and get insurance and do all this,
- 13:59Speaker 2: or are we going to have an informal team who
- 14:02Speaker 2: is going to do this on their own, which is
- 14:04Speaker 2: perfectly fine, not endorsed by the organization, So we don't
- 14:07Speaker 2: have to worry about the the the insurance now, because
- 14:10Speaker 2: it doesn't matter in the criminal courts one way or
- 14:13Speaker 2: the other. Use of forces, use of force, it's justified.
- 14:16Speaker 2: The it's not in castle doctrine. Stands your ground. Castle
- 14:18Speaker 2: doctrine is not going to apply to church. It's going
- 14:20Speaker 2: to be standing your ground. Were you in reasonable fear
- 14:22Speaker 2: of death and great bodily harm, you know, for yourself,
- 14:25Speaker 2: for others, and did you act reasonably under the circumstances.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's it's fairly simple. And once you
- 14:32Speaker 2: decide that we're going to do something, then you need
- 14:34Speaker 2: to have a conversation with that team, have someone in
- 14:39Speaker 2: charge coordinate training, talk about what your policies are, talk
- 14:43Speaker 2: about how you're going to encounter people who are not
- 14:46Speaker 2: offering lethal force. You know, how you're going to de escalate,
- 14:49Speaker 2: how you're There's all these things you get into and
- 14:52Speaker 2: it's a long conversation. But you know, once you've broached
- 14:55Speaker 2: the subject of how are we going to approach this,
- 14:57Speaker 2: then you start putting the pieces of the puzzle. Now
- 14:59Speaker 2: we can help with that. I mean, advice is free.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I mean training costs money, but advice is free. And
- 15:05Speaker 2: plus we'll still go out and look at your place
- 15:07Speaker 2: and give you some ideas. I mean, you always call
- 15:10Speaker 2: and talk to us. I mean, I'm happy to give advice.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Let's get to it. Thirty six past the hour Charlie
- 15:16Speaker 1: Strickland two more segments here in our personal defense. We've
- 15:19Speaker 1: got a question we're going to get to in just
- 15:20Speaker 1: a few minutes. But first I shared with Charlie a
- 15:25Speaker 1: news article from Fox News and something we talked about
- 15:28Speaker 1: a few weeks ago on the show. And it's this
- 15:31Speaker 1: new trend of jugging, is what they're calling it. But
- 15:35Speaker 1: it's just the same old thing, just doing it again.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a term that I think on our show,
- 15:40Speaker 2: Fred would have a good time with.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I'm sure Fred would have a good time.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Sending to gutter. So yeah, so it's nothing new. It's
- 15:49Speaker 2: just that it's a trend and they've come up with
- 15:51Speaker 2: a term for it, and it's like anything. And here's
- 15:53Speaker 2: the danger. So what this is is people watch you
- 15:56Speaker 2: go to an ATM or a bank or somewhere where
- 15:58Speaker 2: you're retrieving a bunch of money, and they follow you somewhere.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So it's not at a protected area where there's a
- 16:05Speaker 2: lot of cameras, and they will follow you home or
- 16:07Speaker 2: follow you to work or follow you wherever.
- 16:09Speaker 1: The example in there was to a gas station to
- 16:11Speaker 1: get out of the car and get a soda.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yes, and then they rob you and they steal whatever
- 16:16Speaker 2: cash valuables that you have retrieved, and that's that's a burglary.
- 16:21Speaker 2: It's an arm robbery. It's and then the thing is
- 16:23Speaker 2: it doesn't always include use of force. You get out
- 16:25Speaker 2: of your car and walk over to do something, they
- 16:27Speaker 2: jump in your car and grab whatever you had, whatever
- 16:29Speaker 2: you left there. And so there's nothing new about this,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but the fact that it's a trend and it's now
- 16:35Speaker 2: has a name that's going to catch on and people
- 16:38Speaker 2: it's like the TikTok challenges and the stupid stuff that
- 16:40Speaker 2: people do because they see it online or they hear
- 16:43Speaker 2: about it. And when we publicize stuff like this, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: like you know, the news media making a big deal
- 16:49Speaker 2: out of it. Hey, it's this new robbery trend. Well,
- 16:52Speaker 2: it's going to be a trend now because it's in
- 16:54Speaker 2: the news. You know, it's it's it just it could
- 16:57Speaker 2: have been a local thing, but it'll it'll the And
- 17:00Speaker 2: then that you say, this is something that's like active
- 17:02Speaker 2: shooter stuff. You know, Hey, I want to outdo that. Guy.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That guy. So yeah, this is this will be a
- 17:06Speaker 2: new term. So to combat it, well, first off, be
- 17:11Speaker 2: aware that it's going on.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I was just going to say, this is what we've
- 17:14Speaker 1: said from the beginning of these segments, situational awareness.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Just be aware of what's going on. First off, Yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 2: this is happening. Okay. The same thing with being bumped
- 17:23Speaker 2: in traffic and pulling into a parking lot and somebody
- 17:25Speaker 2: running up and robbing you. All they did was bump
- 17:27Speaker 2: you to get you to pull over because you were
- 17:29Speaker 2: required by law to pull over and exchange information. They
- 17:31Speaker 2: run up and rob you or steal your car and
- 17:33Speaker 2: put you out in the street. And that happens, and
- 17:35Speaker 2: you know, it used to happen a lot more, but
- 17:37Speaker 2: it still goes on in this country. And all these
- 17:39Speaker 2: things happen in phases. The one thing that does happen
- 17:42Speaker 2: almost daily in this community is people leaving firearms in
- 17:44Speaker 2: their car and they're not locking their car up and
- 17:46Speaker 2: they're getting their firearms stolen. So you know, lock your
- 17:48Speaker 2: vehicle and take your gun into your house, and so
- 17:54Speaker 2: this stuff you need to be looking around you. And
- 17:57Speaker 2: if you go and you handle cash on a regular basis,
- 18:00Speaker 2: My Stepmam used to work at the phone company Marian
- 18:02Speaker 2: and at the end of the month, everybody would come
- 18:04Speaker 2: in and pay their phone bill and she would walk
- 18:07Speaker 2: three buildings down to go to the night drop after
- 18:09Speaker 2: hours with both one hundred thousand dollars in an envelope.
- 18:12Speaker 2: And I'm like, if I ever get broke, I know
- 18:14Speaker 2: where I'm going to go. You know. So you've got
- 18:18Speaker 2: to be aware of the situation you're in, and then
- 18:20Speaker 2: you need to look around and need to be you
- 18:22Speaker 2: need to see it. Is somebody following me out of
- 18:24Speaker 2: parking lot, is somebody watching me? It's you know, with you?
- 18:28Speaker 2: And then what are you justified in doing? Keep in
- 18:30Speaker 2: mind you're justified and using deadly force or someone's committing
- 18:33Speaker 2: an armed felon, a violent felony against you. An armed
- 18:37Speaker 2: robbery is in fact, that burglary of your vehicle while
- 18:41Speaker 2: you're in it. They're attempting or to force an unlawfully
- 18:44Speaker 2: enter you're occupied conveyance. Deadly force is authorized. Maybe you
- 18:48Speaker 2: don't shoot them, but you can drive away and if
- 18:49Speaker 2: you run over their foot, so be it. And we'll
- 18:52Speaker 2: be looking for the limping guy. I mean, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 2: put out a bolo for the guy with a limp.
- 18:56Speaker 2: So look around you and pay attention. I mean, that's
- 19:00Speaker 2: how you combat this. Law enforcement's gonna catch these folks,
- 19:04Speaker 2: but it's up to you. Only you can prevent arm robberies.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Situational awareness.
- 19:12Speaker 2: That's it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It's a common theme. We're going to make a record
- 19:14Speaker 1: and have somebody put music to it. Get Billy Dean
- 19:17Speaker 1: to put some music to it. Situational awareness. Charlie jd
- 19:22Speaker 1: JD and pressed, Oh, what a trio.
- 19:26Speaker 2: That would be probably listening right now, so probably this
- 19:28Speaker 2: is a time of day.
- 19:29Speaker 1: JD listens all right, forty one almost forty two minutes
- 19:32Speaker 1: past running a minute late here, that's all right, we
- 19:34Speaker 1: got time. It's my show. As so long as I
- 19:36Speaker 1: don't take time from Glenn Beck, I'm fine. I can
- 19:39Speaker 1: take as much time as I need. Until then, we
- 19:42Speaker 1: are joined by Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group.
- 19:45Speaker 1: He co hosts Talon Outdoors, heard Saturdays on these fine
- 19:48Speaker 1: radio stations. And Charlie, we got a phone call, according
- 19:51Speaker 1: to Jose, from a listener. Jose, what did the listener
- 19:54Speaker 1: want Charlie to address? All right, so the young lady
- 19:58Speaker 1: wanted to know what what does she do with unused
- 20:02Speaker 1: and unwanted ammunition?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Okay, well, there's a couple of solutions. You can turn
- 20:07Speaker 2: it into the sheriff's office and they will destroy it
- 20:11Speaker 2: for you. Okay if you just I mean.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Is old? How old is old?
- 20:17Speaker 2: Am Well? Another thing you can do. You can bring
- 20:19Speaker 2: it to us and we'll take care of it for you.
- 20:21Speaker 2: We'll destroy it. We're not going to resell it or
- 20:23Speaker 2: give it to anybody else, but we'll look at it
- 20:24Speaker 2: if it's worth shooting, and we'll use it for training
- 20:26Speaker 2: or something. But you know, nine times out of ten
- 20:29Speaker 2: that stuff comes in and we dispose of it ourselves.
- 20:33Speaker 2: So it's not age, it's conditioned. Okay. If it's stored inside,
- 20:39Speaker 2: it can be very old and still be good. If
- 20:42Speaker 2: it's not exposed to humidity and the elements and the
- 20:44Speaker 2: boxes haven't gotten wet. You know, it's humidity and oil.
- 20:49Speaker 2: If it doesn't have oil on it, then it's probably
- 20:51Speaker 2: gonna be fine for a long, long, long time.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Help me out with the humidity quotion here. If someone's
- 20:56Speaker 1: storing it in their garage, it's not exposed to it's
- 21:00Speaker 1: in an enclosed space with air moving. Maybe they've got
- 21:03Speaker 1: a fan or something in the garage. Is that low
- 21:06Speaker 1: humidity enough.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Probably because you know, if it's if it's like reloaded stuff,
- 21:12Speaker 2: it may not hold up as well. A lot of
- 21:14Speaker 2: factory AMMO is going to be fine. Yeah, okay, you
- 21:16Speaker 2: know because it's it's not like. One of the worst
- 21:20Speaker 2: things for AMMO is to like have excessive oil on
- 21:22Speaker 2: your primers. You know, gun solvent things like that. When
- 21:25Speaker 2: you're cleaning your gun. You want to take the ammunition
- 21:27Speaker 2: out of magazines. When you know, when you're cleaning the magazine,
- 21:30Speaker 2: if you're not cleaning the magazine, you don't have to
- 21:32Speaker 2: take it out of magazine, but you don't want you
- 21:33Speaker 2: don't want excessive oil on the on the face, where
- 21:38Speaker 2: the in the chamber, where the round, especially where the
- 21:42Speaker 2: primer is and of the bolt face. A lot of
- 21:45Speaker 2: times you'll have accessive oil and stuff that gets on
- 21:47Speaker 2: the primer and over time it can seep into where
- 21:50Speaker 2: the primer parcket is and can make that not work properly.
- 21:54Speaker 2: So I've stored AMMO and the attic and the garage.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't reckon been putting it in a hot, hot attic,
- 22:02Speaker 2: but you know, mine's different.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But for the questioner. The bottom line is you can
- 22:06Speaker 1: get rid of it through law enforcement or take it
- 22:08Speaker 1: to the telling outfitters. Bring it to us, we'll get
- 22:11Speaker 1: rid of it the ranger the store either.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Either it doesn't matter either either whichever.
- 22:17Speaker 1: All right, training tip, So follow range rules.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I mean when when so this is this is when
- 22:27Speaker 2: you draw it out of me. Things we talk about
- 22:28Speaker 2: on the break that I don't want to talk about
- 22:30Speaker 2: on the show, but you have to talk about this, okay.
- 22:33Speaker 2: So the range rules are there for a reason. Don't
- 22:36Speaker 2: shoot steel the target frames, don't. I mean, use your sights.
- 22:39Speaker 2: If you got a long gun, make sure you're using
- 22:41Speaker 2: your sights and not just I had a guy one
- 22:43Speaker 2: time with a battery went dead on his red dot
- 22:45Speaker 2: site and he just started shooting down range and cranking
- 22:48Speaker 2: rounds into the ground and over the berm and you know,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and it was it was one of those There was
- 22:53Speaker 2: a rear inche and it went on down there. And
- 22:55Speaker 2: I hate doing that to grown men. But when you
- 22:57Speaker 2: do something that's silly, you know, eye protection people get injured.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Sometimes guns blow up, you know, especially if you're doing
- 23:05Speaker 2: your own hand loads. Wear closed collar shirts particularly. We've
- 23:09Speaker 2: had a couple of situations that I'm very I'm familiar
- 23:11Speaker 2: with where someone their wives didn't wear a closed collar
- 23:15Speaker 2: shirt and there's something called cleavage and a hot round
- 23:18Speaker 2: down there will make you do silly things, and that
- 23:21Speaker 2: happens regularly. I know of a couple instances where someone
- 23:25Speaker 2: suffered a book a gunshot wound because their wife had
- 23:30Speaker 2: that happen. You're kidding, No, not kidding.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So the discharge shell went inside the cleavage and the
- 23:38Speaker 1: reaction to it's hot, yeah, okay, and the reaction to
- 23:42Speaker 1: that caused the discharge.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Well, I don't know what it feels like to get
- 23:46Speaker 2: a hot round in my cleavage, but I do know
- 23:48Speaker 2: what a piece of hot steel when I'm wedding feels like,
- 23:51Speaker 2: and it'll let me do stupid things and having a
- 23:53Speaker 2: gun in my hands not that's not a good time
- 23:55Speaker 2: for that.
- 23:55Speaker 1: So people have been accidentally shot, yes.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean people have been sho drawing from
- 24:01Speaker 2: their holster, reholstering, their finger on the trigger. There's so
- 24:04Speaker 2: many ways as you can injure yourself or your spouse,
- 24:08Speaker 2: so just be careful, follow the rules. Finger off the trigger, okay.
- 24:15Speaker 2: When when when we have people come out and we
- 24:17Speaker 2: look and it's not necessarily a thing with guys, but
- 24:20Speaker 2: with ladies it is. We want you, we want to
- 24:22Speaker 2: wear a closed collar shirt, but we're not going to
- 24:24Speaker 2: We're not gonna make you. And I certainly don't want
- 24:27Speaker 2: to pick one out at the range and go, ma'am
- 24:29Speaker 2: you need I'm not because then the husband goes, why
- 24:32Speaker 2: are you looking? Well, I'm just trying to save you
- 24:35Speaker 2: from being injured shot if that occurs, you know, and
- 24:38Speaker 2: it's absolutely you know, I totally get it, but things happen,
- 24:42Speaker 2: So follow range rules.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Thank you, appreciate you coming in. Good to see.
- 24:46Speaker 2: You, good, see thank you.
- 24:49Speaker 1: It's just gonna wait long enough for you to offer
- 24:51Speaker 1: that one. See the clock. I don't know what's going
- 24:53Speaker 1: on over It's like I'm believing you. We're gonna we're
- 24:57Speaker 1: gonna talk. Another'd say good you too, but I wasn't sure.
- 25:02Speaker 1: All right, Charlie Strickland with us from the Talent Training
- 25:04Speaker 1: Group our personal Defense segment here on The Morning Show
- 25:07Speaker 1: with Preston Scott
