- 0:22Speaker 1: like all week, very excited about it. Is that a
- 0:25Speaker 1: hair Nope, just reflection. We're all fine anyway. Hello everyone,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and welcome to another episode of True Crime and Wine Time,
- 0:32Speaker 1: where we dive into the most jaw dropping true crime
- 0:34Speaker 1: stories while sipping something smooth to take the edge off.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So poor Glass, lock your doors and let's uncork the
- 0:40Speaker 1: truth behind some of the darkest of crimes. Now, Dairy
- 0:44Speaker 1: True Crime is still away. She'll be back next week,
- 0:46Speaker 1: but for tonight, I have a very special guest co host,

- 1:24Speaker 1: I live a little pod, little pod po.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Mellama, why don't you tell us what we're going to
- 1:30Speaker 2: be covering tonight?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, I will forewarn you all. There is a moth
- 1:34Speaker 1: in my house that's fluttering behind my lights, behind my desk,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and if that's flow, if that moth hits my face,
- 1:42Speaker 1: you're going to hear some screaming. So just know it's
- 1:44Speaker 1: because I'm being attacked by a very vengeful moth. I'm
- 1:47Speaker 1: convinced it wants blood. But anyway, what are we doing
- 1:51Speaker 1: here tonight? Tonight we will be covering the case of
- 1:53Speaker 1: Jeanette to Palma, a New Jersey teenager who went missing
- 1:56Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy two and was found weeks later, surrounded
- 2:00Speaker 1: by satanic symbols or what was she? Spoiler alert, It
- 2:05Speaker 1: is unsolved and we're going to leave with plenty of
- 2:08Speaker 1: unanswered questions. Everybody's favorite, I know, but I like it anyway.
- 2:15Speaker 1: What are you drinking tonight, girll Sorry.
- 2:18Speaker 2: That's what it said. I wrote the script. Tonight, I'm
- 2:24Speaker 2: drinking another one of my seasonal shrub cocktails. So we've
- 2:29Speaker 2: got too many apples right now over here, so I
- 2:33Speaker 2: made a spiced apple shrub to jazz up. Basically a
- 2:36Speaker 2: bouck atonic. This is made with honeycrisp and Jonah gold
- 2:41Speaker 2: apples with cinnamon, clothes and frosht ginger. Basically tastes a
- 2:46Speaker 2: little like fall but spiked, which is my kind of Paul.
- 2:51Speaker 1: That sounds delicious.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Did you squeeze the apples by hand to get the
- 2:56Speaker 1: apple juice?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Oh no, no, I like you like summer it for
- 3:00Speaker 2: a while and then okay, you're like abusing vinegar.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Got what kind of what kind of liquor do you
- 3:07Speaker 1: have in there? Did you say? Okay? Yeah, it goes
- 3:11Speaker 1: well in.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Everything, and I think it would be good with ferman too.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But see, I like apple cider with like this, the rum,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the dark brown rum, and and you put some cinnamon
- 3:25Speaker 1: sticks in there, some cloves. It's good stuff.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Totties Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I like a hot dot.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the same thing, but that's
- 3:35Speaker 1: what we call them.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that is what I've had as a hot potty, right,
- 3:41Speaker 2: although I don't know that there's usually apple juice. I've
- 3:44Speaker 2: just had it with like limb. It's like lemon water
- 3:46Speaker 2: and alcohol, and it's great when you're having a little
- 3:48Speaker 2: bit of a cold.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Oh there you go. You want the alcohol recipe, well,
- 3:54Speaker 1: cap and I'll have to send it to you. Well, tonight,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'm drinking. What am I drinking? I'm drinking Baybridge Vineyards
- 4:02Speaker 1: tropical whites. There's really nothing to say about it because
- 4:07Speaker 1: it doesn't really say anything. Just a sweet, full flavor
- 4:10Speaker 1: and smooth and taste. Also because I'm both tropical and white.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That's perfect. Good job, Captain, good job with that one. Anyway,
- 4:25Speaker 1: let's get into tonight's story because this one is a
- 4:29Speaker 1: wild one. I've never heard of this before. And then
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think you stumbled across it when we were covering
- 4:35Speaker 1: a different case. We should get into it, so I.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Like, let's do it. I like when the case is
- 4:42Speaker 2: like daisy chain off each other. Right, yeah, let's get
- 4:48Speaker 2: into it. The New Jersey. That's the thing about the Devil,
- 4:57Speaker 2: it has its own devil for.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Starters, Codan to help us, we had, you know, pictures.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I was doing my job, right there we go one
- 5:08Speaker 1: what there we go?
- 5:11Speaker 2: That's this that's the Jersey Devil. Oh, and that is
- 5:16Speaker 2: encryptid that lives in the New Jersey Pine Barons, which
- 5:21Speaker 2: sounds like it should be encrypted, but it's just some
- 5:23Speaker 2: kind of special forest where the devil maybe lives. Now.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Their hockey team is also called the Devils. How about
- 5:32Speaker 2: the Devils? We love sports here it is well established.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I mean, they have a pretty good looking mascot. I
- 5:41Speaker 1: won't lie. It's better than some of the teams they
- 5:43Speaker 1: talked about today, and Lama learns about talk about baseball teams,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and some of their names could use some work. Well,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you guys, they have this tower called Devil's Tower that
- 5:53Speaker 1: is supposed to be haunted by a lady ghost who
- 5:56Speaker 1: saw her sugar baron husband giving another woman some sugar. Also,
- 6:01Speaker 1: if you walk backwards around it enough times, you may
- 6:05Speaker 1: may see the devil. Loving the vagueness of this lore here,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I freaking love lore so much and its ridiculousness. And
- 6:13Speaker 1: that tower is pretty cool. What is that I need
- 6:17Speaker 1: to know more about this Devil's Tower? Not right now?
- 6:21Speaker 1: It is not Rama learns about. We'll save it for then.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:25Speaker 1: This is called the Devil's Tree, and the story for
- 6:29Speaker 1: this one is also great. Those who damage or disrespect
- 6:33Speaker 1: the tree physically or verbally will soon thereafter come to
- 6:38Speaker 1: some sort of harm. I would very much like some
- 6:42Speaker 1: surveillance on that tree to see what exactly people are
- 6:45Speaker 1: saying about it to merit this curse, because I mean,
- 6:49Speaker 1: it looks like a tree, just looks like normal tree.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But apparently, what are you gonna do.
- 6:57Speaker 2: To come to some sort of harm?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Right, Laney says, I've camped and hiked in the Buying
- 7:04Speaker 1: Parents Pine barrens and it's beautiful and peaceful. So no
- 7:08Speaker 1: devil then unless your soul and you're not telling us.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Would you even know if you sold your soul to
- 7:15Speaker 1: the devil? I don't know. Let's find out. It has
- 7:18Speaker 1: nothing to do with this story.
- 7:23Speaker 2: So there is a sewer entrance called the Gates of Hell.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And you know what, that creepose remos from the Aton
- 7:34Speaker 2: Pates story did live in a drain pipe in New Jersey,
- 7:37Speaker 2: So maybe this one's true. It's possible.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I mean, look how big that is. That's bigger than
- 7:42Speaker 1: I thought it would be.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's what it's crazy. It's crazy is a wondrous place.
- 7:51Speaker 2: So there's also a sea serpent named Hoppy. This one's
- 7:55Speaker 2: not about the devil. I just had to mention Hoppy.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Oh that's fantastic.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So sorry about the tangent. You're here for true crime,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but it is spooky month, and there is a reason
- 8:12Speaker 2: we're talking about the devil because things are going to
- 8:15Speaker 2: get a little satanic panicky tonight.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Oh who doesn't love that? That's always fun, always fun
- 8:22Speaker 1: to see the hysteria. Well, I know this. I'm about
- 8:24Speaker 1: to add a bunch of that stuff for my Lama
- 8:27Speaker 1: learns about spreadsheet that's going on there, because I have
- 8:30Speaker 1: a thing for myths and folklore, and I don't even
- 8:33Speaker 1: know they had a hobby. That's not a scary name
- 8:36Speaker 1: for a seasow.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's very cute. Go see Hoppy, feed it some bread.
- 8:44Speaker 2: You're gonna have to tell me, marshmallows.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I don't know what's the name again, Hoppy h o
- 8:51Speaker 1: pp i e hoppy so more you know? All right,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you guys, let's get into the actual story. So on
- 9:01Speaker 1: August seventh, nineteen seventy two, Jeanette di Palma left her Springfield,
- 9:06Speaker 1: New Jersey home for the last time. Her mother offered
- 9:09Speaker 1: her a ride, and she replied, no, Mom, I'm okay,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm sixteen. She told her parents that she was going
- 9:17Speaker 1: to walk about three miles to the Summit train station
- 9:20Speaker 1: and take a train to a friend's house before an
- 9:22Speaker 1: evening shift at work. When Jeanette didn't come home that night,
- 9:27Speaker 1: the Diplomas called her friend, who said she had never
- 9:30Speaker 1: shown up. Her parents filed a missing person report with
- 9:34Speaker 1: the Springfield Police Department the next day. So what do
- 9:38Speaker 1: we know about Jeanette's day? Oh oh, look at the
- 9:42Speaker 1: you little poppys a picture. It's adorable.
- 9:49Speaker 2: So her best friend Gail said that Jeanette had called
- 9:53Speaker 2: her to tell her that she couldn't meet up as
- 9:55Speaker 2: planned after an argument with her parents. Is pissed because
- 10:01Speaker 2: they were supposed to meet up with two boys they'd
- 10:03Speaker 2: met the day before at Echo Lake Park. After a
- 10:08Speaker 2: mild guilt trip, Jeanette told Gail she would hitchhike over
- 10:12Speaker 2: to her house. Jeanette asked her sister Cindy for a ride,
- 10:18Speaker 2: telling her she wanted to meet up with her boyfriend
- 10:20Speaker 2: Tommy at Gail's house. Cindy said no, and she lives
- 10:26Speaker 2: with that regret every day. Gail thinks that Cindy was
- 10:32Speaker 2: maybe mistaken because Tommy was her boyfriend, not Jeanette's.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Well, good, big thing to clear that up. There's a
- 10:40Speaker 1: lot of like, there's a lot of talk, Yeah, just
- 10:45Speaker 1: a whole lot of hearsay all over the place in
- 10:47Speaker 1: the story. So Jeanette's friend Donna said that Jeanette had
- 10:51Speaker 1: unexpectedly stopped by her home that day and asked her
- 10:55Speaker 1: mother for a ride. Donna was grounded at the time
- 10:58Speaker 1: and said her mom didn't like Jeanette, so the girl
- 11:01Speaker 1: ended up walking away from the house. A nineteen year
- 11:05Speaker 1: old woman named Robin Ludecca told the police that she'd
- 11:09Speaker 1: picked up Jeanette on the road hitchhiking that evening. She
- 11:14Speaker 1: said Jeanette had been heading to Berkeley Heights to meet
- 11:17Speaker 1: up with friends. Robin tried to talk to her about
- 11:20Speaker 1: led Zeppelin, but Jeanette had seen tense and fidgeting with
- 11:24Speaker 1: her across necklace, not led Zeppelin.
- 11:27Speaker 2: No.
- 11:28Speaker 1: When Robin let Jeanette out, she watched the girl meet
- 11:31Speaker 1: a couple of boys and a girl under a street light,
- 11:35Speaker 1: which is very interesting and I think doesn't get talked
- 11:38Speaker 1: about enough.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So, but the rumors began, as they do. Jeanette must
- 11:48Speaker 2: have run away or overdosed at a party. The DePalma
- 11:52Speaker 2: was denied both of those theories. No one knows what
- 11:57Speaker 2: happened to Jeanette di Palma that night, but event they
- 12:00Speaker 2: did find her. Yeah, so six weeks later, on September nineteenth,
- 12:08Speaker 2: the Springfield Police received an unusual phone call. A woman
- 12:13Speaker 2: had found an arm outside of her apartment building. Patrol
- 12:18Speaker 2: Man Donald Schwartz responded, expecting to find a mannequin, arm
- 12:24Speaker 2: or some sort of drink.
- 12:26Speaker 1: It is never a mannequin. And over, it's never a mannaquin.
- 12:31Speaker 1: How many mannequins do you see out in the the Why.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Ever in New Jersey?
- 12:36Speaker 1: I get well, I guess it's New Jersey. Who knows?
- 12:39Speaker 2: Sorry, well, every friend.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It sure wasn't a prank. Hold, I'm pouring less of wine.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It is not longa going to the bathroom. I have
- 12:50Speaker 1: to clarify or listeners, you decide, all right. Also, hello, justin,
- 12:59Speaker 1: just Jane. Welcome everybody, be like justice Jane and hit
- 13:03Speaker 1: that leg button. If you haven't yet, please and thank
- 13:05Speaker 1: you appreciate it. Can you imagine finding an arm? No, Michael,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I cannot, Nope, no, thank you.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Now.
- 13:16Speaker 1: As Schwartz later said, quote, when I got there, the
- 13:19Speaker 1: arm was lying in the grass. I looked at it
- 13:22Speaker 1: and I said to myself, this is human. Congratulations Schwartz,
- 13:29Speaker 1: fucking genius, this guy is. I could see the fingernails
- 13:32Speaker 1: and the color of the skin. I could tell the
- 13:35Speaker 1: arm had been out in the elements for a while.
- 13:37Speaker 1: The flesh was real leathery, and it was sort of
- 13:40Speaker 1: a maroonish red in color. Okay, ew ew e eh,
- 13:45Speaker 1: but what did we expect here? Honestly? Schwart took photos
- 13:50Speaker 1: and radioed for detectives to head over. Two more patrolmen
- 13:54Speaker 1: heard the call and came to provide backup for an arm. Okay,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Dominic Olivia and Edward Kish. They spoke to the building
- 14:03Speaker 1: super who was the woman who had called, and began
- 14:06Speaker 1: knocking on doors trying to figure out where the arm
- 14:09Speaker 1: could have come from. I mean, it was just don't
- 14:12Speaker 1: leave their arms laying anywhere, so not usually.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Eventually they did find a woman who had let her
- 14:21Speaker 2: dalmatian out for a run that morning. They decided the
- 14:26Speaker 2: only explanation was that the dog had brought it back.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Now it's not said whether or not they found any
- 14:33Speaker 2: bitemarks on the arm. I know the skin was described
- 14:37Speaker 2: as leathery, but I would think there would be some
- 14:39Speaker 2: sort of imprint from knine teeth.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Oh for sure, I would think so. I mean, their
- 14:44Speaker 1: teeth are meant to break through tough skin anyway, So yeah, yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But unfortunately, if you're expecting sensible police work, this probably
- 14:56Speaker 2: isn't the story for you. No, but we'll get there.
- 15:02Speaker 2: So Olivo was the first to connect the dots. Jeannette
- 15:06Speaker 2: was the only missing person in town, and even though
- 15:09Speaker 2: police had listed her as a runaway, he figured it
- 15:13Speaker 2: was probably her arm. Honestly, with some of these dopes,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I'm surprised they didn't decide she just ran away without
- 15:21Speaker 2: her arm.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Probably h Yay, shotting police work we love to see.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Too frequent, too frequent, continuing to be too frequent as well.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Now the detectives a ride and the arm was transported
- 15:38Speaker 1: to the municipal building in a cardboard box because I
- 15:42Speaker 1: guess there were no stopping shot bags available, and Chief
- 15:46Speaker 1: Police George Parcel, began to organize a search for the
- 15:49Speaker 1: rest of the remains, borrowing a bloodhound from Ocean County
- 15:54Speaker 1: about four layers. Four hours later, the search party was
- 15:58Speaker 1: ready to go. Now the Springfield Police, the Union County
- 16:02Speaker 1: Prosecutor's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, and their blood
- 16:07Speaker 1: house set out. They searched the dirt bed of an
- 16:10Speaker 1: under construction highway, an abandoned swim club, and finally the
- 16:16Speaker 1: Houdau cory. That's funny, Hohodel who sorry splitting into pairs.
- 16:23Speaker 1: They searched the wilderness of the corry, where they themselves
- 16:26Speaker 1: regularly used a makeshift police shooting range, because that's probably
- 16:31Speaker 1: a great idea. Near where the cory bordered the interstate construction,
- 16:36Speaker 1: they found the upper part of the arm, figuring the
- 16:40Speaker 1: dog must have run by that spot. They knew they
- 16:43Speaker 1: were close, I mean yeah.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Patrolman Schwart and his search buddy, Patrolman Calabrese, which is
- 16:58Speaker 2: a type of salammikin climbed a steep incline, perhaps in
- 17:04Speaker 2: the hope of getting perspective over the quarry, but none
- 17:08Speaker 2: was needed. A body was at the top near a cliff,
- 17:12Speaker 2: laying face down. It was wearing the clothes and that
- 17:16Speaker 2: de Palma's parents had reported her missing, in a blue
- 17:20Speaker 2: T shirt and tan pants. One sandal was still on.
- 17:24Speaker 2: One was laying to the side of the remains. Animals
- 17:28Speaker 2: had eaten much of the flesh from her feet and head.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Like I know, I know that's how nature works, but
- 17:37Speaker 1: my god, is it disturbing when you really think about it?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Like cycle life is is something is something now Schwort
- 17:46Speaker 1: said quote. There was a wooden cross over her head
- 17:50Speaker 1: that was made out of two sticks. There were also
- 17:54Speaker 1: some stones arranged around the top of her head in
- 17:57Speaker 1: the shape of a semicircle, almost like a halo. Interesting. Interesting.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Now.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Officers scrambled up the hill to shove their way into
- 18:08Speaker 1: the crime scene, and one began taking photographs. Patrolman Ed
- 18:13Speaker 1: Kish said it was hard to say, but they assumed
- 18:16Speaker 1: the remains were female as there was a pocketbook at
- 18:19Speaker 1: the scene. Kish picked up the bag and searched it
- 18:22Speaker 1: for a form of a d or evidence of drugs,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and finding neither, he set it back down. So that's
- 18:29Speaker 1: pretty cool, Cliff, though it's kind of creepy. Yes, it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: kind of creepy.
- 18:39Speaker 2: The murmurs of witchcraft began before the detectives arrived, but
- 18:45Speaker 2: once they did, the patrolman were dismissed. Kitsch later said
- 18:51Speaker 2: the detective bureau did their own thing and it wasn't
- 18:54Speaker 2: discussed with us. They treated the rest of US patrol
- 18:57Speaker 2: men like a bunch of dunces. Hmmm, hm, is that merited?
- 19:04Speaker 2: We will decide. We'll see. So, given the rough terrain,
- 19:11Speaker 2: the detectives decided to use a fire truck ladder to
- 19:14Speaker 2: remove the body from the cliff, which was known to
- 19:18Speaker 2: locals as the Devil's Teeth Medical examiner. Medical examiner Bernard
- 19:27Speaker 2: Ehrenberg was called out to declare the remains dead, which
- 19:31Speaker 2: was really just a formality. The detectives search for evidence
- 19:35Speaker 2: around the body. Hey, maybe those dunces could have helped
- 19:40Speaker 2: with that. The guys they dismissed, but the smart detectives
- 19:44Speaker 2: didn't find anything. There is no obvious cause of death,
- 19:49Speaker 2: there was no sign of foul play.
- 19:52Speaker 1: A whole lot of nothing they found there. Do you
- 19:55Speaker 1: know how easily accessible the top of this was, by
- 20:00Speaker 1: chance at all? Just wondering.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I mean, it seemed like it was difficult for the
- 20:06Speaker 2: police officers to climb it, and people definitely said that
- 20:11Speaker 2: it would have been very difficult for Janet to climb
- 20:14Speaker 2: it in sandals.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Okay, so her being up there is Okay, that's what
- 20:21Speaker 1: I was thinking, but I wasn't entirely sure. So the
- 20:26Speaker 1: fire truck arrived at the bottom of the Devil's Teeth
- 20:28Speaker 1: and fireman Don Stewart used the letter to climb up
- 20:32Speaker 1: to join the detectives. Because if there's one thing this
- 20:35Speaker 1: crime scene needs it's more people in it. Of course,
- 20:39Speaker 1: it's a gigantic fire truck. What does that look bigger
- 20:41Speaker 1: than a regular fire truck? I feel, I don't know.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Everything's bigger in the seventies.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That's true, all right. So here's a phone quote about
- 20:54Speaker 1: Don Stewart from his ex co worker Ed Cardinal. Quote.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Don was this image of Woody Harrelson, and probably spend
- 21:03Speaker 1: as much time in a real bar as wood he
- 21:05Speaker 1: did acting in one on cheers. Okay, all right, all right,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I may have somewhat of a thing for Woody Harrelson.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. He's amazing, all right. Is that
- 21:18Speaker 1: was amazing at what he does? I don't know. I
- 21:20Speaker 1: can't explain it. What are you gonna do.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Now?
- 21:25Speaker 1: A less fun quote that is a lot more topical
- 21:29Speaker 1: is quote I remember him saying that her body didn't
- 21:33Speaker 1: look like the body of a person that had been
- 21:35Speaker 1: beat up or killed in an accident. Those types would
- 21:39Speaker 1: be sprawled out or distorted in a kind of fetal position.
- 21:43Speaker 1: He said that she looks peaceful, almost like she was sleeping,
- 21:47Speaker 1: and that really bothered him. Well, at least the eyes
- 21:50Speaker 1: were closed, Because we've learned on mom learns about most
- 21:54Speaker 1: people die with their eyes open, and guess what, you
- 21:56Speaker 1: can't just go to their eyes like in the movies.
- 21:59Speaker 1: It's not how that works. No, so think about that tonight, friends, anyway.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Don't think don't think about that. Don't do that anyway.
- 22:12Speaker 1: The firemen helped to gently lower the remains to the
- 22:15Speaker 1: cory floor on a stretcher, where they were taken to
- 22:18Speaker 1: a morgue by ambulance. The EMMY examined the remains but
- 22:22Speaker 1: was unable to determine a cause of death. Arenberg was
- 22:26Speaker 1: a physician that had been appointed to the Emmy position,
- 22:30Speaker 1: not a trained pathologist, which is never always great. Now
- 22:35Speaker 1: Ed Kiss declared Bernie Ehrenberg was not competent enough to
- 22:40Speaker 1: have been conducting forensic autopsies. Okay, okay, Kiss, but I mean, okay,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I mean.
- 22:52Speaker 2: To be fair, forensic science was not what it was
- 22:57Speaker 2: or what it is now back in nineteen seven two.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I mean, you know, unlike, what was it we were
- 23:06Speaker 1: just watching, Oh was it the Jeffrey Spence trial. I
- 23:09Speaker 1: think it was where like a deputy was the coroner,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and this town was so small. Everybody had like three
- 23:16Speaker 1: or four jobs. But at least at least the pathologist
- 23:20Speaker 1: was a physician and not just an investigator. So there's that, sorry,
- 23:26Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 23:28Speaker 2: So yeah, the forensics have come a long way. Like
- 23:33Speaker 2: a lot of other things when it comes to investigations.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Arenberg had to transport the remains to a hospital and
- 23:41Speaker 2: Elizabeth to be x rayed. The results showed no broken
- 23:46Speaker 2: or fractured bones, no bullet holes, no knife strikes. While
- 23:51Speaker 2: the emmy continued to try to solve the mystery of
- 23:54Speaker 2: how the question of who was easily solved by dental
- 23:58Speaker 2: records there was the remains were, without a doubt, Jeanette
- 24:02Speaker 2: di Palma Emmy, Ehrenberg made the determination that it was
- 24:08Speaker 2: possible that Jeanette had been the victim of strangulation. No
- 24:14Speaker 2: records have been shared that explain why he made that
- 24:18Speaker 2: vague statement. He did say that he couldn't perform a
- 24:22Speaker 2: traditional autopsy due to the marked state of decomposition, sure
- 24:30Speaker 2: due to that the tissue samples sent to the lab
- 24:33Speaker 2: were returned is not suitable for alcohol testing, and Arenberg
- 24:39Speaker 2: requested drug testing on the sample, but somewhere down the
- 24:43Speaker 2: chain of custody, the narcotics and barbituous tests requested were
- 24:47Speaker 2: crossed out and never performed.
- 24:50Speaker 1: H Does that makes sense?
- 24:53Speaker 2: Sure?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Not, though I don't know if a toxicology depending how
- 24:58Speaker 1: long she has been decposed for, I don't know what
- 25:00Speaker 1: it produced.
- 25:01Speaker 2: For you, it's like six weeks if we're missing to found.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah, well now we'll never know because they didn't even
- 25:09Speaker 1: bother So. Another oddity from the autopsy was that a
- 25:14Speaker 1: tissue sample showing significantly elevated levels of lead. Now Jeanette
- 25:20Speaker 1: tested at six hundred and ninety four micrograms per liter,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and seven hundred and fourteen micrograms is a lethal dose? Like, what?
- 25:31Speaker 1: How how did she come?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Was it?
- 25:33Speaker 1: Do you think it was makeup? Well, it's the seventies.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Never mind, I forgot. We're in the seventies where everything
- 25:38Speaker 1: lead was everywhere, in the gasolene and the paints everywhere.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Now you guys, it's in your protein shakes. That's a
- 25:47Speaker 1: different story. Not for now. That was fun to learn
- 25:51Speaker 1: about the other day.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Your vegetables, yeah, yeah, and chocolate and chocolate, yes.
- 25:57Speaker 1: But lead poisoning comes with symptoms, and Jeannette hadn't shown any.
- 26:03Speaker 1: The best theory at present is that the test had
- 26:06Speaker 1: accidentally included soil she was laying on. Seems like something
- 26:11Speaker 1: that could have been tested easily enough at the time.
- 26:14Speaker 1: But what do I know. I'm not even a Dunce patrolman. Nope, Nope,
- 26:19Speaker 1: not at all. But I don't know. I don't know
- 26:21Speaker 1: if it could have just been from the dirt, this
- 26:23Speaker 1: case dirt, I know, right, see what the dirt says, Well,
- 26:30Speaker 1: then somebody might yeah, all of the things, right, all right.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So the death certificate listed the cause of death as
- 26:41Speaker 1: pending further study. So that's me. I've never seen a
- 26:46Speaker 1: death certificate labeled that. Maybe that was before undetermined. I
- 26:51Speaker 1: don't I don't.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Know, spoilers, there was no further st.
- 26:57Speaker 1: There wasn't one.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So well.
- 27:00Speaker 1: The cross necklace that Jeanette always wore, though, was not
- 27:04Speaker 1: around her neck and was never found. Her pocketbook and
- 27:08Speaker 1: clothing were transported to the Springfield Police Department, where the
- 27:12Speaker 1: police proceeded to hang Jeanette's clothing outside of the building
- 27:17Speaker 1: by the AC exhaust for you think that's stupid for
- 27:21Speaker 1: three fucking days. Yes, that's right, just out there right
- 27:25Speaker 1: by the exhaust. Just they're just really knocking out of
- 27:29Speaker 1: the park. I mean, is this better or worse than
- 27:33Speaker 1: Massachusetts State Police? I don't know. I don't know now.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Schwartz implied this was due to how bad they smelled,
- 27:41Speaker 1: but I I just can't. All right, I get it,
- 27:44Speaker 1: they smell bad, but like, what are you doing? What
- 27:47Speaker 1: are you doing? Eventually the clothes and pocketbook were sent
- 27:52Speaker 1: away for forensic testing by people who hopefully know better
- 27:56Speaker 1: than these dunces. That's right, I am team detect dipsnow
- 28:01Speaker 1: and listen. I wanted to believe in you, patrol man.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I did.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I did, But I'm starting to get it now. I'm
- 28:07Speaker 1: starting to get while they were like, oh, yeah, no,
- 28:09Speaker 1: we don't. We're not going to talk about it.
- 28:13Speaker 2: They didn't want you round for the investigation. Messing it up.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Okay, look, messing up all of the things.
- 28:22Speaker 2: So y'all are smart and you probably call the The
- 28:26Speaker 2: mention of witchcraft and Satanism has been very minimal so far.
- 28:31Speaker 2: We've got schwart talking about a wooden cross and a
- 28:35Speaker 2: stone halo. Someone mumbled it looks like witchcraft and they
- 28:40Speaker 2: weren't even named in the report, just said someone said that,
- 28:44Speaker 2: and the fact that the location was called the Devil's Teeth. Now,
- 28:51Speaker 2: come on, guys, at least say there was like a
- 28:53Speaker 2: rune carved in a tree or something.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Ha ha, funny, funny.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Not a room, not a room. So you may be
- 29:05Speaker 2: surprised to learn that on September twenty ninth, ten days
- 29:09Speaker 2: after the discovery of Jeanette's remains, the local paper, The
- 29:14Speaker 2: Daily Journal, dropped the headline girls sacrificed in which right
- 29:20Speaker 2: question mark. This article stated that a review of crime
- 29:26Speaker 2: scene photos were leading authorities to believe that Jeannette died
- 29:32Speaker 2: in a ritual sacrifice. They wrote that pieces of wood
- 29:37Speaker 2: framed her body like a coffin quote. Officially, authorities gave
- 29:44Speaker 2: no comment on the symbolism. They agree privately, however, that
- 29:49Speaker 2: the investigation has turned towards cultism.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Just remember that, all those details.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Now, it's pretty nice of these authorities to an write
- 30:00Speaker 2: this journalist into their private discussions.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Right by the way, cappin, that was Laney's birthday? Where
- 30:08Speaker 1: you said, September twenty ninth, nineteen seventy two, Laney's literal birthday.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Well there you go. Now we know what the newspaper
- 30:16Speaker 1: said the day you were born.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Hello Kelly, Sorry, you must have been on the next page.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Where were we?
- 30:28Speaker 2: So they go on to say in this article that
- 30:32Speaker 2: a number of sacrifices had been reported in the area
- 30:37Speaker 2: around the quarry, which is the watch on reservation.
- 30:41Speaker 1: All these sacrifices, yet not a lot of reporting about them.
- 30:45Speaker 1: That's kind of weird, right A dead goat? Oh wait,
- 30:52Speaker 1: A number of sacrifices, some involving dead animals, have been reported.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Junion County Park police in the Wachu Reserve discovered burning candles,
- 31:02Speaker 1: a bowl with blood and feathers, and pigeons with their
- 31:05Speaker 1: next snap. A dead goat was reportedly found elsewhere in
- 31:09Speaker 1: what appeared to be a right okay, all right, but listen,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I'd reserve trusting this Daily Journal.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Okay, well, what are the sacrifices that didn't involve that animal?
- 31:26Speaker 2: Like vegetation? Yeah? Why not? Now?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Something else fun is that the article tries to link
- 31:33Speaker 1: Jeannette di palmas whitchy death to the List family. Yep,
- 31:39Speaker 1: that's right, guys, we met them not that long ago.
- 31:42Speaker 1: This whole situation is very close to that creepy List mansion,
- 31:47Speaker 1: and it's just under a year after the List Family murders,
- 31:51Speaker 1: which is also how Cavin stumbled upon this case. Now,
- 31:55Speaker 1: the List Goes are hanging around, if you will. Now,
- 32:00Speaker 1: we didn't go deep into it. But John Lyst's daughter
- 32:03Speaker 1: Patricia was rumored to be a witch or have witch books. Now,
- 32:09Speaker 1: as I recall it, the intel came from the creepy
- 32:12Speaker 1: drama coach who seemed to really enjoy attention after the murders.
- 32:17Speaker 1: You remember that creepy guy. He was crapy. He definitely
- 32:22Speaker 1: said no, did not and he was did not care
- 32:26Speaker 1: for him either, a lot of questions about that guy. Yes,
- 32:29Speaker 1: that guy suspicious.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Really really interested in becoming famous after these murders.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, he definitely said that she tried to give
- 32:41Speaker 1: him a witch book and asked him to go to
- 32:44Speaker 1: a witch orgy. Because that sounds like that happened.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Now.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Sorry, that didn't come up in our List story because
- 32:51Speaker 1: it smelled pretty strongly a bullshit and we respect Patricia
- 32:55Speaker 1: List more than that.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 32:58Speaker 1: What we did cover in that story, though, is that
- 33:00Speaker 1: John List definitely did it. It wasn't witchy or satanic.
- 33:05Speaker 1: He said it was about God, But that was kind
- 33:08Speaker 1: of just a lame excuse for him to start over
- 33:10Speaker 1: debt free. So what I'm saying is just maybe the
- 33:14Speaker 1: Daily Journal is full of shit here, because that checks
- 33:19Speaker 1: out so far.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Now, locals do say that Even before Jeanette's death, there
- 33:27Speaker 2: were rumors of witches in the area. The watch On
- 33:31Speaker 2: Reservation was used as a spot for kids to hang out,
- 33:35Speaker 2: make out, whatever, but they were told to get out
- 33:39Speaker 2: of there at night because of sacrifices. Stuff. That sounds
- 33:43Speaker 2: more like a way to scare kids into not staying
- 33:46Speaker 2: out late than something based in reality.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, yeah, let's be honest. Which book says
- 33:54Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't remember which book it. I
- 33:57Speaker 1: don't think he ever specified what book patrial he I
- 34:02Speaker 1: don't think so.
- 34:03Speaker 2: No, it was it was some like sexy witchbooks. And
- 34:07Speaker 2: because this was it was like really gross friend fiction,
- 34:12Speaker 2: oh student fiction. So now to put it into context,
- 34:20Speaker 2: this was a particularly religious area and the Dipalmas Church
- 34:24Speaker 2: pastor James Tate was known for being a fire and
- 34:28Speaker 2: broomstone kind of guy. And you know, you know that
- 34:34Speaker 2: pastor jumped right into the media game, changing the story
- 34:38Speaker 2: from witches to Satan worshippers.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Of course, of course, oh Satanists may have sling girl. No,
- 34:47Speaker 1: not the Satanist now, and it was kind of a
- 34:50Speaker 1: hot time for Satan worshippers. The Rosemary's Baby movie was
- 34:55Speaker 1: released in nineteen sixty eight. The book The Exorcist was
- 34:59Speaker 1: released nineteen seventy one, and it was only a few
- 35:03Speaker 1: years after the Manson family murders, and the media had
- 35:06Speaker 1: also tried to spin them as being satanic without any
- 35:10Speaker 1: evidence other than the brutality of their crimes. But you
- 35:14Speaker 1: know what, now that we've gone through the basics of
- 35:17Speaker 1: the case itself, let's see what we can find out
- 35:20Speaker 1: about Jeanette's shall we.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Yes?
- 35:25Speaker 1: Like an older Blair witch that moves so creepy and scary.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So. Jeanette de Palma was born in Jersey City on
- 35:35Speaker 2: August third, nineteen fifty six. Her father, Salvatore, was a
- 35:42Speaker 2: World War Two veteran who ran an auto salvage shop
- 35:45Speaker 2: in Newark. Her mother, Florence, had her hands full at
- 35:49Speaker 2: home with their seven children, which I don't really go
- 35:54Speaker 2: into it, but pretty much everyone mentioned in the story
- 35:57Speaker 2: has like seven children or eight. We are in Catholic country, Okay,
- 36:06Speaker 2: I mean Jewish people too. But the family moved to Springfield,
- 36:12Speaker 2: New Jersey, about twenty minutes west of Newark in the
- 36:15Speaker 2: mid nineteen sixties. Springfield was known for its clean parks
- 36:21Speaker 2: and lack of graffiti and gangs. Compared to other nearby suburbs.
- 36:26Speaker 2: It had mainly been populated by religious families moving away
- 36:30Speaker 2: from Manhattan and Long Island, and as years past, the
- 36:33Speaker 2: religious groups had been sure to block any negative establishments
- 36:39Speaker 2: from opening in town. Examples of negative establishments include adult bookstores,
- 36:46Speaker 2: biker bars, and tattoo parlors. But before, yeah, well before
- 36:53Speaker 2: you get too smug, this list also includes car washes
- 36:58Speaker 2: and pinball machines. Scandalous, it's giving, it's giving trouble in
- 37:08Speaker 2: river City with a capital T that rhymes with P
- 37:11Speaker 2: that stands for pinball.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I mean, okay, I guess pinball because of wizards, I guess.
- 37:19Speaker 1: But the like New Jersey, I don't know when did
- 37:28Speaker 1: definitely around this time.
- 37:29Speaker 2: They had to have been seventies.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Well we're in the seventies, aren't we.
- 37:34Speaker 2: We are sorry somebody pays Google when buzard.
- 37:42Speaker 1: But car washes, I mean, New Jersey is so weird
- 37:46Speaker 1: about stuff when it comes to cars, Like, what is
- 37:49Speaker 1: their deal there? You can't pump gas. The car washes
- 37:53Speaker 1: are the devil's water. I guess what's wrong with car washes? Okay, okay,
- 38:02Speaker 1: New Jersey. Also you can't buy clothes on Sundays or
- 38:04Speaker 1: something stupid like that, New Jersey. I have questions for you,
- 38:09Speaker 1: lots of questions. No offense to where you live, lady,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but I got questions right, all right. So the Dipalmas
- 38:18Speaker 1: moved into a large house in a newer area of
- 38:20Speaker 1: town and immediately started getting the stink guy from some
- 38:25Speaker 1: of their neighbors. They didn't leave the house much, and
- 38:28Speaker 1: when they did, they didn't talk a lot. Something wasn't
- 38:32Speaker 1: one hundred percent with that family, a neighbor recalled, I
- 38:35Speaker 1: don't know if that's what they sound like, or if
- 38:36Speaker 1: it was even a female, but I'm going to go
- 38:38Speaker 1: with it was. Apparently, being Italian and somewhat private earned
- 38:43Speaker 1: the family mafia rumors too. One neighbor went so far
- 38:47Speaker 1: as to say that Salvatore was a mafia boss. Okay, okay,
- 38:53Speaker 1: these people love their stories, don't they.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Patrolman ed Kish from you remember him, he's a guns
- 39:01Speaker 1: said that he was called to the Diploma house many
- 39:04Speaker 1: times in the nineteen seventies. He said that Sally and
- 39:08Speaker 1: Florence would get into a fight and someone would call us,
- 39:12Speaker 1: and by the time we got there, Florence would turn
- 39:15Speaker 1: us away. She'd say things like, well, there was a problem,
- 39:19Speaker 1: but now there's not, and a family member later confirmed
- 39:23Speaker 1: that Salvator Senior was rotten to his wife. I mean, okay,
- 39:33Speaker 1: pinball was in nineteen sixty nine, by the way, Kemp, Yeah.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Okay, the wizards are on the loose at this time.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I mean all the wizards I know love playing pinball.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I love sixty nine.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Okay, anyway, continue on, cap, carry on. Now.
- 39:57Speaker 2: You would think being very involved with their church, the
- 40:01Speaker 2: Assemblies of God evangel Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey, would
- 40:06Speaker 2: earn the DiPalma some points with neighbors, but that was
- 40:11Speaker 2: the wrong kind of religion for them. It was kind
- 40:14Speaker 2: of Evangelical Catholic, not traditional Catholic. People sound super fun,
- 40:23Speaker 2: so fine, not judgmental at all, but they were very
- 40:30Speaker 2: into their church, and Jeanette was no exception. She was
- 40:34Speaker 2: active in the church's youth activities and was a Christian ambassador,
- 40:39Speaker 2: which meant she tried to witness to others about her
- 40:42Speaker 2: faith in Jesus.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Fine.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Her best friend Gail recalled a trip to an
- 40:50Speaker 2: amusement park where Jeanette insisted they spend some time witnessing
- 40:54Speaker 2: between riding rites girls, which we weren't doing it six
- 41:00Speaker 2: flags over Georgia, I'll tell you that much.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Uran King Zion either he had have been behind me. Actually,
- 41:06Speaker 1: that looks like one of our rides, the Racer, which
- 41:09Speaker 1: I do not ride. So Jeanette even had a very
- 41:13Speaker 1: innocent relationship with the pastor's son, Wayne Tait. He said
- 41:17Speaker 1: they were drawn to each other but lived in different
- 41:20Speaker 1: towns and only saw each other at church. He said
- 41:24Speaker 1: that one day she told him that they couldn't give
- 41:26Speaker 1: enough to their relationship and kissed him on the cheek,
- 41:30Speaker 1: breaking up with him. And that's obviously only what Wayne
- 41:34Speaker 1: had to say after the fact. So grain of salt,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I suppose, because that doesn't really sound like a relationship
- 41:41Speaker 1: at all. But when you got some religious teens, oh
- 41:45Speaker 1: my goodness, things are very dull but very serious. Okay.
- 41:51Speaker 1: But Wayne did kind of put their interest in the
- 41:53Speaker 1: church into the context of the seventies Jesus movement, where
- 41:58Speaker 1: hippie started getting into Christianity after a decade of partying.
- 42:02Speaker 1: I wonder how they all played out. I wonder what
- 42:04Speaker 1: they grew up to be. Like, I've had lots of fun,
- 42:07Speaker 1: so it was kind of a trendy thing to do
- 42:10Speaker 1: at the time. According to the super Trustworthy Daily Journal,
- 42:15Speaker 1: Janette wanted to go to Trinity Bible Institute in North Dakota,
- 42:19Speaker 1: North Dakota after graduating from high school. So she seems
- 42:23Speaker 1: like a very decent, good girl, you know, just your
- 42:29Speaker 1: normal freaking teenager, nothing crazy. I don't understand how you'd
- 42:33Speaker 1: be super into Jesus but then also into witchcraft, but whatever.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I guess.
- 42:38Speaker 2: While we have all these church members who had their
- 42:42Speaker 2: view of Jeannette, then Pastor Tate had a different story
- 42:47Speaker 2: to tell. Despite sorry, despite telling newspapers she had been
- 42:57Speaker 2: pious and devout. I am potentially killed for trying to
- 43:02Speaker 2: preach about Jesus to Satanists. He later said she was
- 43:07Speaker 2: reading a book on Satanism and that while she may
- 43:10Speaker 2: have attended church, her interest was not in Jesus but
- 43:13Speaker 2: the occult. Wow, it's kind of a big differing stories there.
- 43:22Speaker 2: There doesn't seem to be anyone else who knew about
- 43:24Speaker 2: this book, though one other source did report years later
- 43:29Speaker 2: that Jeanette owned The Satanic Bible by Anton Levey, which
- 43:34Speaker 2: was published in nineteen sixty nine, which we all know
- 43:36Speaker 2: is the same year that Pinball Wizard came out.
- 43:40Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. Really, you think she had this
- 43:44Speaker 1: book get out of here? I don't think she did.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I'm not sure. It's the us son. It's the only
- 43:51Speaker 2: person the publication.
- 43:55Speaker 1: But that's not reliable.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there's a lot of questions of the story.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Those are not reliable.
- 44:05Speaker 2: So you'll have that. So then we have what her
- 44:09Speaker 2: peers at the Jonathan Dayton Regional High School got. Students
- 44:14Speaker 2: that didn't know her had heard rumors that she had
- 44:17Speaker 2: a bit of a wild side and that she experimented
- 44:20Speaker 2: with drugs and that she was promiscuous. Imagine, to be fair,
- 44:29Speaker 2: the peer who called her wild gave the disclaimer, I
- 44:34Speaker 2: don't think wild meant anything other than Jeanette wasn't the
- 44:38Speaker 2: perfect Christian child that her mother believed her to be.
- 44:42Speaker 2: And that is fair because who exactly is perfect, especially
- 44:47Speaker 2: in high school?
- 44:49Speaker 1: Especially in high school. I mean, come on out of here,
- 44:53Speaker 1: I'm already of the story makes me so mad, you know,
- 44:56Speaker 1: it just it really does. They're just throwing like they
- 45:00Speaker 1: are so victim blaming. Its disgust. It really is. You'll see,
- 45:04Speaker 1: it's worse. It does get worse. So her friends made
- 45:07Speaker 1: her out to be a kind of fun girl, and
- 45:10Speaker 1: she looked fun Jeanette. I would have probably hung out
- 45:12Speaker 1: with Janette. She looked pretty cool. She smoked pot, she
- 45:15Speaker 1: hit hikes, she loved Janice Joplin The Horror, Oh my God.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Her cousin and close friend Lisa, said that while Jeannette
- 45:22Speaker 1: would smoke pot when it was offered, she never bought
- 45:25Speaker 1: it for herself or did it regularly. According to Lisa,
- 45:29Speaker 1: Jeanette didn't even drink. Her bestie, Gail, laughed when asked
- 45:34Speaker 1: if Jeanette could have overtoast on drugs. She told an
- 45:38Speaker 1: anecdote about them sneaking booze from Gail's dad's liquor cabinet,
- 45:42Speaker 1: and Jeanette suggested that they jump up and down to
- 45:45Speaker 1: mix the alcohol in their stomachs and get drunk faster.
- 45:49Speaker 1: So if you're asking if Jeanette had knowledge of hardcore
- 45:53Speaker 1: drug use, my answer is hell no. That's Gayle's quote.
- 45:57Speaker 1: And I like Gail exactly, Like, come on on, she
- 46:00Speaker 1: just smooks some poet, which you're not going to ode over,
- 46:03Speaker 1: especially in nineteen seventy two. I here, yeah, like what right, exactly,
- 46:12Speaker 1: lady exactly.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Not helping all of these rumors about Jeanette being a
- 46:19Speaker 2: bad girl is our least favorite Dunce patrolman, and he
- 46:26Speaker 2: said that the cops referred to her as party girl
- 46:29Speaker 2: and that he had pulled her out of dudes back
- 46:32Speaker 2: seats on multiple occasions, which only makes him sound psycho
- 46:37Speaker 2: like knock on a window, my guy. It doesn't sit
- 46:41Speaker 2: well with me that a police officer is talking shit
- 46:44Speaker 2: about a dead girl, whether or not he believes she
- 46:48Speaker 2: is the victim of a crime. She's still a sixteen
- 46:50Speaker 2: year old girl who has passed away. What on earth
- 46:54Speaker 2: is gained by this?
- 46:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm completely grossed out about the way Jeanette was
- 46:59Speaker 1: talked about and used by other people for their fucked
- 47:03Speaker 1: up agendas, because that's all it is. Just they've come
- 47:07Speaker 1: up with stories to push whatever they want to do,
- 47:09Speaker 1: and it's just disgusting because she's a child. And then
- 47:13Speaker 1: it makes it seem like nobody should solve this case
- 47:15Speaker 1: because she deserved it. But I will say this about Kish,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you should just talk a lot. You know, something in
- 47:24Speaker 1: the true crime world that is always interesting is that
- 47:27Speaker 1: when somebody is guilty of something, they tend to over
- 47:30Speaker 1: involve themselves and run their mouths a lot. Kish just saying,
- 47:36Speaker 1: you're not even like one of the lead investigators. Why
- 47:38Speaker 1: are you even running your mouth.
- 47:40Speaker 2: He's not despective. He's a Dunce patrolman.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Dunce patrolman. I'm just saying, yeah, he has been suspicious.
- 47:47Speaker 1: He's suspicious to me.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there's As I was doing the research for
- 47:53Speaker 2: this case, I kept a list at the end of
- 47:55Speaker 2: my research of who I thought it was from moment
- 47:58Speaker 2: to moment. Oh, he's definitely on the list. But unfortunately
- 48:02Speaker 2: the list is like, it's incredibly long. By the there's
- 48:06Speaker 2: so many weirdos.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Now. Jeanette's sister Cindy had my absolute favorite response to
- 48:15Speaker 1: ed Kish, saying, quote, this cop seems to be feeding
- 48:18Speaker 1: people a lot of bullshit that he does, Cindy, that
- 48:22Speaker 1: he does. Other cops said that they knew of no
- 48:26Speaker 1: prior incidences involving Jeanette. When last impression of Jeanette can
- 48:32Speaker 1: be found in her own diary. The last entry, written
- 48:36Speaker 1: about two weeks before her disappearance, has been shared on
- 48:39Speaker 1: a Hulu original series called Out There. It details Jeanette's
- 48:45Speaker 1: hitching a ride to a party with Gail to see
- 48:47Speaker 1: their respective boys Joe and Robert. Two other drunk boys
- 48:52Speaker 1: greeted them, but when Jeanette saw Joe, she lost her
- 48:55Speaker 1: train of thought. So, kappin, you care to read a
- 48:59Speaker 1: little of this for us. We do love journal entries
- 49:02Speaker 1: around here.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I'm so glad I gave myself this part.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, Oh damn.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's just a random picture.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Oh I see it, says not Jeanette as I look
- 49:18Speaker 1: at the side.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Yeah, seventies party, the trol man. Okay, damn, I forgot
- 49:30Speaker 2: what I was talking about because Joe's eyes turned me on. Oh.
- 49:34Speaker 2: I decided to leave the room before I jumped on him.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Remember I was playing it cool.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 49:43Speaker 2: So she and Joe went outside together until the mosquitoes
- 49:49Speaker 2: drove them back in, where one of the boys who
- 49:51Speaker 2: had been flirting with her earlier yelled at her rude.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Then she went downstairs to a room with a mattress
- 50:02Speaker 2: and she wrote some time comes over to me and
- 50:05Speaker 2: tried to make it with me, shoving Southern Comfort down
- 50:08Speaker 2: my throat. I took it because I was mad. Then
- 50:12Speaker 2: Joe comes down. Yeah, Southern Comfort. Yeah, he was just
- 50:19Speaker 2: sitting and watching us. When Ken tries to kiss me.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Oh boy, I told Joe to get his butt down,
- 50:26Speaker 2: because he was all I wanted that night. I found
- 50:29Speaker 2: out a lot about Joe and I was happy. So
- 50:32Speaker 2: some greaser decides to lay down and he tried to
- 50:37Speaker 2: get rid of Joe so he could have me. So
- 50:40Speaker 2: I called good old Gail. She was attacked by Ken
- 50:45Speaker 2: while I made out with Joe. She was a great night.
- 50:48Speaker 1: It was a great night, Gail, I went, Gail is
- 50:56Speaker 1: my bestie. Just if you're still out there, Gail, come
- 51:01Speaker 1: on our shirts.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Still out there. I hope she's not with Ken.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I hope she's not with Ken either.
- 51:07Speaker 2: The use of the word attacked in that right, I hope.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Okay, sure, good old Gail. Right, we all need a
- 51:16Speaker 1: friend like Gail. Now, it's pretty likely that Jeanette partied.
- 51:20Speaker 1: I mean, she said so herself, whatever, whatever. I wouldn't
- 51:25Speaker 1: exactly take a teenage girl's diary as gospel, but let's
- 51:30Speaker 1: take her at her word. She partied, she'd liked boys,
- 51:34Speaker 1: she was a headero high school girl, and that's what
- 51:36Speaker 1: they do. If anything, this just adds to my already
- 51:40Speaker 1: lengthy list of suspicious people in her life, because there
- 51:44Speaker 1: is quite a few. Look at the collar on that shirt, Wow.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Look at that hair hair my inspiration and I, oh,
- 51:54Speaker 2: isn't Kapin looking fine tonight?
- 51:55Speaker 1: Everyby tell her in the chat how good she looks.
- 51:57Speaker 1: She looks amazing.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Enough now that I'm looking at Darlene solevant. We know
- 52:10Speaker 2: Jeanette accepted rides and took drugs and alcohol that was
- 52:14Speaker 2: offered to her, and these are risky behaviors for anyone
- 52:18Speaker 2: when they don't know who's doing the offering. Sure, there
- 52:23Speaker 2: are many possible ways that Jeanette could have ended up
- 52:26Speaker 2: dead on top of the Devil's Teeth. Unfortunately, the police
- 52:32Speaker 2: never shared any theories that were backed by evidence.
- 52:36Speaker 1: And no one's surprise. I know our captain is always beautiful,
- 52:41Speaker 1: isn't she? It's true now as far as the crime
- 52:45Speaker 1: scene goes, there ended up being three different stories of
- 52:49Speaker 1: the satanic symbols around her remains. Oh boy, buckle up, friends.
- 52:55Speaker 1: We heard earlier that the cop who found her said
- 52:58Speaker 1: a cross above her head and stones arranged like a halo.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Then Jeanette's cousin Lisa, climbed to the top of Devil's
- 53:07Speaker 1: Teeth three days after the body was discovered and found
- 53:11Speaker 1: the scene still preserved with police tape. The body was gone,
- 53:15Speaker 1: but a dark stain in the earth showed her where
- 53:18Speaker 1: it had been. Because that's exactly what happens now. Lisa
- 53:23Speaker 1: described the positioning of the body exactly as Officer Schwart had,
- 53:27Speaker 1: including details that hadn't been released to the press. But
- 53:32Speaker 1: her description of this scene included logs above her head
- 53:36Speaker 1: and below her feet perpendicular to her body, and many
- 53:41Speaker 1: small crosses made from twigs laid on top of each other.
- 53:45Speaker 1: That's a lot going on there, okay, all right, Ruby, Yeah,
- 53:53Speaker 1: the newspapers ran another version, of course. They did the
- 53:57Speaker 1: large crossed on schwartzl the small crosses Lisa saw, and
- 54:02Speaker 1: logs arranged all around the body in the shape of
- 54:05Speaker 1: a coffin. Townspeople swore she was found in the middle
- 54:10Speaker 1: of a pentagram, of course, and kiss our freaking favorite
- 54:15Speaker 1: for all of his bullshit, though said he didn't see
- 54:18Speaker 1: any events, so one half point for ed, all right,
- 54:25Speaker 1: I mean the bullshit, but this was like, hey, it's
- 54:29Speaker 1: probably like, well, it's not the bullshit I made up,
- 54:31Speaker 1: so it can't be true.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Yes, he does have his own bush well. So for
- 54:40Speaker 2: many years, these varied accounts were all the community knew.
- 54:46Speaker 2: The newspaper headlines the witches and Satanists made Jeanette's death
- 54:50Speaker 2: an ominous memory for locals. It was decades later when
- 54:56Speaker 2: magazine and website Weird New Jersey found the case. A
- 55:02Speaker 2: reader had sent in a vague memory of a girl
- 55:05Speaker 2: being sacrificed in the woods, and more stories poured in.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Two journalists dug into the cold case, reaching out to
- 55:13Speaker 2: Jeanette's friends, family, cops, and whoever they could find who
- 55:17Speaker 2: would give them a morsel of truth. They found that
- 55:22Speaker 2: some of the microfilm reels of daily Journal archives mentioning
- 55:25Speaker 2: Jeanette had been deliberately destroyed, but that only made them
- 55:30Speaker 2: more determined to uncover the story. And of course they
- 55:35Speaker 2: wanted to see those crime scene photos.
- 55:38Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, but deliberately destroyed. Very interesting, very interesting.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Why Leanie says, I have a Weird New Jersey book
- 55:50Speaker 1: and used to get the monthly magazines. I didn't even
- 55:52Speaker 1: know about Weird New Jersey. But guess what I'm going
- 55:56Speaker 1: to be looking up and going down. I love weird shit.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I mean that's like our main source for through. The
- 56:03Speaker 2: guys from Weird New Jersey, they were like, hey, when
- 56:07Speaker 2: they were when they got all do it there, Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 1: They're more credible than the Daily Journal or whatever their
- 56:14Speaker 1: stupid name was. Yeah, they were told that Jeannette's case
- 56:18Speaker 1: file had been destroyed in nineteen ninety nine during Hurricane Floyd,
- 56:23Speaker 1: which was bad. It was not good. A retired officer
- 56:28Speaker 1: told them that the file had gone missing earlier in
- 56:31Speaker 1: the eighties. They proceeded to write a book, Death on
- 56:34Speaker 1: the Devil's Teeth, which has been the best source of
- 56:37Speaker 1: information for tonight's episode. So if you haven't read it,
- 56:42Speaker 1: I suggest going to go read it. It's about the
- 56:45Speaker 1: most accurate thing you've got for this. So there you go.
- 56:51Speaker 1: And then in twenty twenty four, that's right, just last
- 56:54Speaker 1: year they got a surprise. They received a copy of
- 57:00Speaker 1: Jeanette's case file from the Union County Prosecutor's office from
- 57:04Speaker 1: a Freedom of Information Act request fire filed years previously.
- 57:09Speaker 1: All right, New Jersey apparently ain't quick to do shit.
- 57:13Speaker 1: So that's interesting. And guess what they had the crime
- 57:17Speaker 1: scene photos. Oh boy, oh boy, Sam says Loma. You
- 57:25Speaker 1: go down the rabbit hole so I can just get
- 57:27Speaker 1: spoon fed the important parts please. All right, So here
- 57:33Speaker 1: we are, folks. Don't worry. The remains have been redacted
- 57:36Speaker 1: out of respect. We're here to see these witchy sacrifice
- 57:40Speaker 1: symbols we've been told about, more so than Jeanette's body.
- 57:46Speaker 1: So don't worry none of that. All right, we got
- 57:49Speaker 1: a slides show there. I'm gonna pause and look at
- 57:52Speaker 1: these because I haven't entirely got to look at them
- 57:57Speaker 1: all yet because I couldn't get into play. But now
- 58:02Speaker 1: it is Wow, look at all that stuff around her
- 58:05Speaker 1: that looks just like trees, and there's literally nothing. I
- 58:15Speaker 1: was expecting there to be, like barerass ground. No, there's
- 58:20Speaker 1: just leaves and sticks all over the place.
- 58:23Speaker 2: So there's there's something around her.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Is there.
- 58:29Speaker 2: A bunch of dudes?
- 58:31Speaker 1: Oh oh yes?
- 58:34Speaker 2: Now, if these dunces were swarming her like they obviously were,
- 58:38Speaker 2: and we heard that earlier, there were just like a
- 58:40Speaker 2: million people on top of a cliff, Like, how is
- 58:45Speaker 2: it that Lisa came up two days later and found
- 58:48Speaker 2: a bunch of crosses there like they would be They
- 58:50Speaker 2: would have been trampled by this for sure. If they
- 58:53Speaker 2: were there at the time of death. I guess somebody
- 58:55Speaker 2: could have done them after the fact, but.
- 58:58Speaker 1: They could I've done that, that's true. I mean, there's
- 59:03Speaker 1: a body in the woods and you know, different angles
- 59:07Speaker 1: and not a cross in sight by my books, not
- 59:10Speaker 1: a stone halo, not you know, gigantic logs shaped in
- 59:14Speaker 1: a coffin. I mean, I didn't see it. Did anybody
- 59:17Speaker 1: else see it? Because I didn't see it. You know,
- 59:20Speaker 1: it was just a girl whose life ended too soon,
- 59:22Speaker 1: you know, laying in the wilderness. It looks very normal
- 59:28Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, yeah, it's too bad, badly Yeah yeah.
- 59:34Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, even if they hadn't disrupted the crime scene,
- 59:37Speaker 1: with the way it looks, I don't think they would
- 59:39Speaker 1: have been able to find much anyway, to be honest.
- 59:41Speaker 1: But still that's not the point, not the point.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Now, remember the purse because the police collected, yes, so
- 59:57Speaker 2: much like the items around the body. There are some
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: serious inconsistencies there. Ed Kish said he picked it up
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: and looked through it for ID and drugs. If we
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: all remember m Well, this diagram is from the released
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: case file, and it shows no purse but the items
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: from her person theory strewn on the ground near the remains.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Now you would think if Kish had picked up an
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: empty purse he would have said that. Also, the list
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: of items includes a clear vial of an unknown substance
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: that was never tested because of course, I mean interesting,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: there's been talk of drug use, but let's not test
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: that vial.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Right, It's a weird thing to be caring around anyway.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean someone I've heard that it maybe was
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: like cough met or cold medicine. She had like a
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: little bit of cold to day she left. But test
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: it that you can smell cold medicine, right, we heard that,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: don't know, ye, so we heard the purse was sent
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: for additional testing along with Jeanette's clothes. Now, as of
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, the story now is there was never
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: any purse at the scene. It was taken along with
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: her necklace.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: And who who again was it that's brought up the
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: purse kiss it Dunce patrolman ed kissing.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: But I mean multiple police officers mentioned the purse because
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: they're talking about it being sent off to testing, and
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: they're talking about it like where it was stored in
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: the municipal building. The purse was mentioned multiple times, and
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: now they're saying it never existed. And I feel like
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I'm taking crazy pills because either like I don't know
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: where the fuck up is, but the fuck up is
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: big case, because like if the contents of the purse
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: were strewn on the ground near her body, that kind
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: of changes the narrative a little bit, right, like running
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: in her purse build open? Did somebody dump her purse out?
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: There could be finger prints on the purse, you know,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: could have been could have been fingerprints on the purse.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: We told you guys would not be happy with this investigation, okay.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: And we do know that the clothes were never tested
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: because a man named Ed Salzano sued the Union County
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Prosecutor's office in twenty nineteen to test them. Solonzo and
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: his partner Holly Zuel started a group called Justice for
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Jeanette that is still fighting for a real investigation to
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: be done. I'm so glad somebody is doing this. Salzano
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: was given some documents by Jeanette's family, including a report
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: stating that stains found in Jeannette's clothes were to decompose
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: for a conclusive blood and semen examinations back in nineteen
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: seventy two. But that was nineteen seventy two, baby, all right,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: we have come a long way with that ground breaking
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: technology called DNA. A judge, however, threw out their lawsuit,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: saying the Salzanos didn't have standing to sue and couldn't
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: tell the police how to do their jobs. Well, somebody
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: needs to tell them how to do their damn jobs.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Who's going to tell them?
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Also, MVPs right here, Holly and Ed real heroes.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Those two.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Doing the work that the police shirt is fucking doing.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Oh I'm sorry.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: They're trying to get they're trying to get stuffed on.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: I don't always agree with them, but they're trying to
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: get stuffed on, I guess. And they have the damn
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: family members they have, not the pastor we've talked about,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: but like the pastor later who knew the family, because
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: I guess Florence Jeanette's mother basically came to this pastor
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: and was like, make sure this keeps going because what happened,
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: like what was reported, is not what happened. So they
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: they're trying to do the work so much. Yeah. Now,
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: if we are calling the satanic panic angle of this
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: case bullshit, which we are, what are the leading theories?
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: We know this town is gossipy as fuck, so there
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: is plenty of speculation. There's the classic theory that she
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: OWEDI did a party and her friends dumped her some
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: real I know what you did last summer? Shit, I'll
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: buy it. Everyone that is talking all the time about everything,
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I think somebody would have spooked by now.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I think so too. And it's nineteen seven. What are you, oh,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Dane on honestly weed and drinking. I mean, our friends
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: were very honest about what she did.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: So I just I don't know. I don't buy that
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: either at all. It's stupid. And why drop her off
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: there at a very hard to get to a ravine.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Would they have carried her body up there like that?
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Seems like a lot of work when the fireman how
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: to use a freaking ladder. But anyway, so maybe mister
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: de Palma was in the mafia, and maybe this was
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: a hit. You know, it happens, but it's a little
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: far fetched. I think it's very far fetched to even
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: make it on my list either. It's about as clear
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: as the Satanic panic worshipers. I know, thank you doesn't
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: fit into the narrative, I feel. The police interviewed a
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: homeless man who had been living in the court and
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: some of Janette's male friends, but everyone was cleared. Which
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: should they have been cleared. We don't know because we
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: see how their investigation was done. I don't know what
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: they mean, Like, how did they get clear? Do they
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: all have alibis? Did you even check what their alibis were?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: We were like, no, you're a good old boy. You
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: couldn't possibly have done this horrible thing.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: No. I mean, the thing that's so not funny about
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: this homeless man theory is, I guess this guy's camp
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: was like right by where her body was found, but
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: they didn't find it when they were searching the scene.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: So this is why I'm like, what are y'all doing?
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Also, how could it have been the homeless guy? Like
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: where did he even meet her at? She had to
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: have gotten there somehow, And I don't think it's from
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: the homeless guy. Yeah, I mean, it doesn't make any sense,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: all right. And then Ed Kissich has his own theory,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: even though he is my theory that it was an
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: older guy who used to give Jeanette rides. Well Ed,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: that's a really interesting things to say, Ed, An older
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: guy that used to give Jeanette rides must be somebody
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: she trusted.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: The guy was accused of assaulting multiple girls at high
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: school and moved away not long after Jeanette's disappearance, which
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: again is another creepy, weird guy. But I think Ed
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Shirt does have a lot of opinions. Of course Ed
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: has a theory. Of course he does, of course he does. Anyway,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I think we're getting a little bit more warmer and
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: realistic here. Okay, this is usually always somebody that you know, usually,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: but maybe quite not what you got. Yeah.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Well, there's another theory, and it is a doozy. We
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: can't go into all the details, but there's the theory
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: that Jeannette was not the only victim of.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Whoever killed her, which I agree, by the way.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Probably eight days after Jeanette's disappearance, another young woman disappeared
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: from South Orange, New Jersey. Joan Leslie Kramer asked a
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: man for a ride home late at night and was
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: found twelve days later, nude and faced down in a
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: wooded area of a park. Her clothes were found nearby,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: but her shoes and necklace were missing.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: The missing nicholas, one of.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Her neckbones was fractured. Jeanette's autopsy had been vague, but
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: there had been the suggestion of strangulation. The girls had
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: similar hair, similar builds and both hitched rides. They were
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: both missing necklaces, and.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: It looks like their spots are very similar looking. That's
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: an interesting Now, it's possible that these victims aren't connected. Sure,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: there could be different monsters out there. New Jersey is
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: a big place with plenty of devils. I mean they're
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: in the middle of putting a devil away now with
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Lisk and how many corrupt cops are involved as well.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: But that's a different story. We won't go into it.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: But Long Island too, Oh yeah, did any live in
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: New Jersey? I thought New Jersey had something to do
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: with it.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I mean it's close.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I don't know, we could the stories that I get
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: so confused at some points of like who did what?
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: We're why do we just do something with New Jersey?
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: I don't know. Anyway, it doesn't matter, okay, But we
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: do have a clue as to who killed Joanne Joan
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: sorry sorry Joan Leslie Kramer, because there was a witness
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: to her getting in a man's car near the South
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Orange train station. So in nineteen seventy four, two years
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: after Joan and Jeannette's deaths, a man was arrested in
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: South Orange New Jersey for attacking his ex wife's neighbors
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: in their home, and damn if he didn't look just
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: like the sketch of the man last seen with Joan
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Leslie Kramer. Let's take a look at this guy's stupid face.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Is that what it is? Oh? Not the sketch, but okay,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: I mean that he doesn't look like crazy. He looks
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: like a decent guy that you'd probably be like, Yeah,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: you know what, he looks decent. I'll get in the
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: car with him.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: He's an accountant.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Oh oh, so was Lisk. He's no, wait, he's an architect.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you guys, I need a brain break.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: You know what happened is I put too much knowledge
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: in my brain today and now it's just like you
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: don't know. We're just going to say things to say things.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, architects everywhere are about at you right now. Okay, accounting, sorry, lady,
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: So auto O'Neil Nilsen was held for a fifteen day
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: psychiatric evaluation and then released on a two year suspended
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: sentence with orders to stay out of South Orange Cool.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: His neighbor, who he attacked in his home out of nowhere,
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: was told that he was a suspect in another crime
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: and was released in the hopes of gaining evidence. For
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: the record, that's just what you tell people right through
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: the cops. Yeah, for the record, though, Nelson's ex wife,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: who he obviously has also attacked before this, and neighbors
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: all suspected he'd strangled enough young woman Carol Anne Farino
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: in nineteen sixty six, And like, I know, neighbor gossip,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: but if everyone thinks this guy strangled this woman once.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: I mean, is this the same community that's been running
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: their mouth about Jeanette?
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Different one?
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: Right, this is South Orange I think versus Springfield as Jeanette.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: But they're close, Okay.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Now, the witness in the Cramer case positively I d.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Nilsen asked the man last seen with Joan, and he
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: was arrested for her murder. Unfortunately, though the only evidence
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: they had was that witness who had seen Auto but
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: only seen Joan from behind, and a security guard who
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: had also seen Joan get into the car but not Auto.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Nilsen showed up in court with a big old beard,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: refusing to shave it when asked trying to mess with
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: the witness. She held strong that he was definitely the
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: man she'd seen that night as she interacted with him
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: at a bar earlier in the evening. She looks a
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: lot like Joan.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Oh that sorry, that is Joan. I didn't that Joan. Yeah,
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: I didn't put a picture of the witness And she's
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: still alive. I hope she's like living her best life.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: She was just trying to help. Also, sorry, yeah, that's
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: jo I was like, wow, I think I mean Joan
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: and Jeanette both are like beautiful woman or girls. Joan
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: especially sounds like a like a badass. She was like
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: a revolutionary young woman going to Columbia University. But so
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: the witness is on the stand. She made the mistake
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: of saying that she'd seen a South Orange police officer
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: out that night and that he could confirm her story. Now,
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: the officer got on the stand and testified that he
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: had not been out that night because he was in
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: rehab at the time. He wasn't supposed to be outside
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: of the hospital facility, and he definitely wasn't supposed to
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: be out drinking. So the officer said he hadn't been there,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: and he kept his job and his pension, but it
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: put a ding in the witnesses testimony because it she said.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: But how different are police uniforms? Just wondering because I'm
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: still in my d theory, just saying, would you know
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: that I was a different police officer that late at night?
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: Well, I mean the common theory is that this police
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: officer was lying on the stand because he was a.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Horrible Oh okay, never mind.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Okay, maybe I don't know if he's alive or no.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, well there's a lot of awesome police
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: people in the story story.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: It hurts my brain all right now. Nilson's public defender
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: told the jury that the witness was mistaken, that there
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: was no evidence, and that the police had just wanted
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: to close this case and make the wealthy Kramer family happy,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: which okay, yes, but also, if you don't have the evidence,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: you don't have the evidence. The prosecution countered that they
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: had two witnesses and that the autopsy showed Joan had
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: died about two hours after eating dinner at home. So
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: the person who picked her up killed her. H I mean, probably,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: but that could have been multiple people.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I just kind of see why they might have this
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: might have happened.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: So it just.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Wasn't enough for the jury. Nielsen was found not guilty
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: in July nineteen seventy five. He traded in his car
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: a few months after Joan and Jeanette's disappearances, and the
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: police hadn't been able to search it. He also stopped
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: by Joan's father's work shortly after her death. So that's
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: this guy's totally suspicious. But if that's all I got,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: it's not great.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: This guy's creepy as hell. The woman who saw him
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: pick up Joan moved to California for her own safety.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Now, I do also understand that there was not enough
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: evidence to convict him. But from everything I've read about him,
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: from you know, his alcoholism, his mental health problems, his
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: episodes of violence, I this is I mean, I one
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: think he killed Joan Kramer. As far as Jeanette, that's
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: more murky. Now, of course, all the records from the
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: trial and from Joan Kramer's death have gone missing. Maybe
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: they will mysteriously turn up in a decade or so.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: A whole another County Jersey digs into it.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Get it together. In New Jersey.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Otto wasn't roaming around for too long, thankfully, he was
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: committed to Trenton State Hospital in nineteen seventy seven after
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: holding two VA doctors at gunpoint in nineteen seventy six.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: He died in nineteen ninety two.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: All Right, so yeah, this guy was not a great guy. Now.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: The Torso killer, Richard Conningham, was also operating in the
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: New Jersey area at the time of Jeanette's disappearance. In
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, he wrote to one of the journalists
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: at Weird New and hinted that he had killed Jeanette.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: How did he even? He was like twenty twenty one,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: He's like, I'm going to write, We're New Jerseys. What
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: I'm going to do? You didn't get that in prison?
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Like what I think he was reading it?
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: I think so?
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Okay, I mean I probably would too if I was
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: in prison. Why not? The journalists forward in his writings
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: to the police, and no update has been given by
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: the police. But Jeanette's condition does not seem to fit
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: with Cottingham's pattern of extreme brutality. And yes, I agree,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: I very much know about Richard cotting him in it
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: really the same at all?
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: No, this is you know, like I found this case
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: from list uh this is this is not a case
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I want to write about. I oh, yes, reading about
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: reading about this guy was like like, I don't even know.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: I tried. I because there was a case. There was
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: a victim, two victims of Cottingham who were originally tied
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: to auto'neil Nelson, and so I had originally written about
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: it and it was really really difficult. And then and
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: then when I read an update from like last year,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: they had he had been found guilty of those two victims, thankfully,
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: But I was like I knew it. I knew this
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: was different. Like it's so like, yeah, I don't want
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: to cover that case on this channel. It's very it's
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: pretty tough. It's not great. It's just trigger warning all
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: the time. Yes, so, and we like we like weird,
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: dark stuff, but that was another level of just like
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: disrespect for humanity. So, as we warned you, we I
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: can't definitively say what happened to Jeanette Diploma. As of now,
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: her death is still ruled suspicious and not a homicide.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Justice for Jeanette has a petition to try to get
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: that changed. As a cold case officer told the organization
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: that designation limits the action the police can take even
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: in the event of a confession or a big break
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: in the case. That petition also states in a twenty
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: twenty four update, we know who did it, but we
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: can't prove it unless her evidence is tested and her
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: body is exhumed. Wisely, they're not sharing that theory with
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: us at this time, but some interviews suggest that they
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: still believe the satanic sacrifice angle. For fuck's sake, I
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: am curious what you gentle viewers think happened. If you
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: want to write it in the chatter comments.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Yes, let us know what theory you think it could be,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: because I mean, I personally think it's a serial killer
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: of some sort. I don't know. I mean it took
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: her necklace, I don't know. There's a lot going on
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: with the story, and also not a lot going on
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: with the story. It's very confusing. Ed can't keep his
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: freaking mouth shut about anything. Seems to know too much
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: in my opinion, But maybe he just liked the show
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: because he's a dunce patrolman.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Scene.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: You gotta be careful sometimes. But that auto guy, you know,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: very similar to what happened to Joan.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm team Otto as far as who killed her,
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: not who I support.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I mean, I definitely think Auto would be a big
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: contender as well.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: Auto or high school boy. And that's Kish's theory. That
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: is ed Kish's theory. But I'm like that, I buy
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: thee A high school guy who's attacked multiple high school
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: girls escalated in that way, Like that's I buy that
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: more than she oded and a group of people made
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: a pact to never talk about it again.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. Lad In Gray thinks it's a
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: cereal as well, and he took trophies. I mean, it's
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: very very suspicious.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: The one thing I do know is there is no
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: evidence that witchcraft or Satanism was involved. Literally none. You
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: guys see the pictures for yourself. You couldn't even find
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: a nickel in all that garbage, rubbish whatever it's called debris.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I mean it doesn't worse, Yes, I guess that's what
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't go in it.
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: There are sticks crossing each other, so you could see
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: where he's like, that's across. But also that's true, well
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: like sticks do when there's a lunch sticks.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks very natural to me that environment, and
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: you know, yeah, sometimes you see what you want to see.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: You know, two sticks can become across. And with all
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: the rumors of witches in the woods, and with all
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: the focus on satanic cults in the media, maybe it
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: was easier to believe that Jeanette was killed by one
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: of them than by a classmate or an accounting because
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: it's usually that right, and that's scary. So, as I said,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Lady and Gray thinks that it was satanic, not satanic,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: not witchcraft, thinks it's a serial killer, and Nettie took trophies,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: and that she doesn't think it's a kid either.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: She probably doesn't think it's an account either.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: She's biased, that lady in Gray bias. I tell you now,
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I'm just kidding. She's not. But yes, let us know
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: in the comments what you think what happened into Jeanette's
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: dipoma that night? All right, Kevin, any closing thoughts for
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: tonight's case.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: Yes, indeed, Look, witches have had it bad enough. Let's
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: stop talking shit about witches. They're not out sacrificing teenagers.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: They're like gardening on a full moon, which is her chill,
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: not TikTok witches. But you know what I mean, You
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: know who isn't chill is like everybody in the story.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: My list of suspicious people just grew and grew as
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: I was researching. And it is incredibly sad that the
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: police can't or won't do testing on the evidence they
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: do have, assuming they know where it is. I'm not
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: sure if we're ever going to get justice for Jeannette,
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: but we can keep her memory alive, and we can
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: continue to demand better from journalists and especially from police.
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: And I am looking at you, kitch the bitch.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you sir, disgrace Well, you guys, this case is
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: certainly a frustrating one, just in eptness all the way down,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: not even with police, but the media as well. I mean,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: it is seriously disgusting some of the things that they
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: said that we're based on literally nothing, you know. And
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: the poor family, right who's looking at the police to
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: help solve the murder of their daughter and they are
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: saying some crazy shit. You can't even trust them, right
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: because it seems they're more occupied with talking about Satanic
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: worship than finding the killer of your daughter. Like that's
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: just frustrating. I can't I feel for her family, I
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: really really do, you know, And I think it's easy
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: for a pearl clutching community like this one to go
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: straight to satanic panic because if they didn't, it would
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: disrupt their bubble that a killer was among them and
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: probably looked like half the men in their town. A
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: lot of people don't like that. They're like, no, you'll
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: know a killer. No you won't.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: No.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: I mean some maybe, but most of us, well hopefully
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: not me. I hope I'm not murdered. But most of
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: the people that do get murdered are by someone that
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: they know, all right, So just keep that in mind.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: And as I said earlier, the way her story, her legacy,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: her memory was tarnished by these clout chasers kish in
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: the Daily Journal, because that's what they were. It's just appalling.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: You know, she was just a normal teenage girl. And
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I honestly don't think Jeannette's death will be solved. I don't,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: but miracles have happened in cases I thought would never
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: get solved have and I hope for the dipalm is
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: that is the case. And to the lovely couple that
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: is doing that hard work to get justice for Jeanette,
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: like freaking bravo, I would love to have them on
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: the show to talk to them about their experience in
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: investigating this and trying to get answers and the bullshit
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: hoops they probably had to jump through to get that information. Now,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: they deserve answers, and so does the memory of Jeanette.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: So someday, hopefully we'll have answers of what happened to
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Jeanette's dipoma. But it ain't witches and it ain't Satan.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Sorry not sorry. With that, let's wrap up with some

- 1:28:31Speaker 2: and All Dogs Go to Heaven. If those two movies
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: weren't emotionally devastating enough child hearts it would be well
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: into adulthood before we learned the true devastating tale of
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: Judith Barsi our favorite Ducky and Anne Marie. So bring
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: the Kleenexes and join Terry and Lama at eight pm

- 1:28:58Speaker 1: even know, didn't even know that happened to that poor girl. Yes, Sam,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: all dogs go to Heaven. Yes, that little girl that
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: voice Anne Marie and was Ducky in the land before
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: time was murdered before those movies came out. But you'll
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: have to tune in to next Thursday so you get
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: all the full details of that now. If you need

- 1:30:55Speaker 2: throwing shade at scarecrows. They are everywhere in my neighborhood,
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: and I did not care for it.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: I don't like that.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like meant to be cute and folksy and
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: fall and I'm like, why are there? Like I'm driving
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: at night and I think there's a person standing there,
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: but it's just a stuffed person.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Oh I hate that.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, that's always. Thanks for being here. Stay sharp,
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: make good decisions, and keep an eye on the scarecrows.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Keep it an eye on your scarecrows. Thank you everyone
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: for listening and supporting us. Until next time. Take care
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: of your mind, take care of each other, and never
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: stop asking the hard questions. Now go forth and be amazing.
