- 2:05Speaker 1: uh i guess uh early predictions overreactions power rankings all
- 2:09Speaker 1: that good stuff that everybody loves to uh talk about

- 2:59Speaker 1: with all that out of the way, Colin, all that housekeeping,
- 3:01Speaker 1: we got a jam-packed show, but how was your summer?
- 3:05Speaker 1: I know we're excited for football season, hockey season starting up,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but how was your summer and getting ready for another
- 3:12Speaker 1: hockey season?
- 3:13Speaker 3: It's a long nine-month grind for us.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good until I had a nightmare on Saturday.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I got your longhorns, but you win some, you lose some.
- 3:20Speaker 2: What a game that was. That was a classic. And
- 3:23Speaker 2: it was a good summer. I'm all fired up for
- 3:25Speaker 2: the night, 8.15. My Broncos start to go to town,
- 3:28Speaker 2: start off with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You got to be pumped for that. But, no, it
- 3:32Speaker 2: was a good summer. A lot of traveling. Coast to coast. Brandon,
- 3:38Speaker 2: every time you went to text me about getting together, oh,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm this place, I'm that place. It's hard to track down,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I feel, this summer. all over the map, but it was,
- 3:46Speaker 2: it was a busy summer and it's nice that hockey's back.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's nice to be in the arena. I went about
- 3:50Speaker 2: being with the Bulldogs at orientation camp in June. And
- 3:53Speaker 2: it's like, well, it felt like it was last week.
- 3:55Speaker 2: So it's went so fast and it's it's, it's beautiful
- 3:59Speaker 2: that hockey's back. So pumped for it. Like the preseason
- 4:02Speaker 2: was so good in general. And you're seeing guys now
- 4:04Speaker 2: at development camps strutting their stuff. And it's just a
- 4:07Speaker 2: blast to see always a great time.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And I'm still in preseason to kind of, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: not not the best of intros on my end. But again, hey,
- 4:16Speaker 1: we're still getting going here on the OHL 60 podcast. Right. And,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know, we're in preseason mode. I got to get
- 4:21Speaker 1: myself ready. Regular season starts this week. And yeah, it
- 4:25Speaker 1: just feels like for us getting back in the rhythm
- 4:26Speaker 1: and the groove of things, you know, a weekly basis
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the show we take for granted, maybe during a
- 4:30Speaker 1: long nine month season, just how how much of a
- 4:33Speaker 1: grind it actually is. But when you haven't done it
- 4:35Speaker 1: for a few months, it's a little bit rusty on there.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Maybe we need some preseason games.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. This is a preseason game for us. The
- 4:42Speaker 2: first segment, we'll have it as a preseason. It'll be
- 4:44Speaker 2: our blooper reel for the year, we hope. There's many
- 4:46Speaker 2: to come for that. I'm just lucky. I'm just lucky.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I got the light upgrade from yourself, Brandon. I hope
- 4:53Speaker 2: the streams like a little better this year with the lighting.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I know that was an issue last year. Laptops crashing.
- 4:59Speaker 2: It was, uh, it was all over the map. My, uh,
- 5:02Speaker 2: technology took a couple of ginger ales and, uh, called
- 5:05Speaker 2: it a night on me a couple of times, but
- 5:07Speaker 2: shout out to my better half Liza for the, uh,
- 5:10Speaker 2: curtain backdrop. Uh, that'll get upgraded throughout the season. There
- 5:13Speaker 2: should be stuff attached to that. We'll have fun with
- 5:15Speaker 2: that throughout the year. I'm sure. Um, I feel like
- 5:19Speaker 2: it should be my play board. I feel like I
- 5:20Speaker 2: should get like one of those like hockey things. Cause
- 5:22Speaker 2: the amount of times I use my hands and explain
- 5:24Speaker 2: things in the camera, I feel like I should get
- 5:26Speaker 2: a board. Like it's a bench and just draw out
- 5:28Speaker 2: plays and stuff just over my shoulder. We just go
- 5:30Speaker 2: to the right, go to the right, go to the left.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Might need Colin's whiteboard.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah. That'd be awesome. If I got a little whiteboard
- 5:36Speaker 2: on there and just started writing, it'd be awesome. I
- 5:39Speaker 2: think that's something that, uh, I think that's something we
- 5:41Speaker 2: got to do. Count down the effects. Do you have
- 5:43Speaker 2: an effect tally?
- 5:45Speaker 1: If you want to see that comment or like that
- 5:47Speaker 1: you want to see Colin have a whiteboard and is
- 5:49Speaker 1: a backdrop this year. So we can go over, we'll
- 5:51Speaker 1: go over some plays or go over some things that
- 5:53Speaker 1: have been bothering him throughout the week.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Skyline on it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Absolutely. That's, that's a pretty good skyline.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 3: It looks better.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It looks great already. So just give you guys a
- 6:03Speaker 1: quick rundown. If you're listening to us on the audio version,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'll read it off quickly for you. We're going to
- 6:08Speaker 1: go over OHL headlines. We got about 300 of those.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So we're going to try to go through those as
- 6:11Speaker 1: quickly as we can. Sudbury emptying out the future future
- 6:16Speaker 1: draft pick cupboard yeah we've got a lot of thoughts
- 6:18Speaker 1: on that one the preseason takeaways and thoughts on the
- 6:20Speaker 1: length of the preseason Colin's got some thoughts he wants
- 6:23Speaker 1: to maybe see some modifications there maybe the next effect
- 6:26Speaker 1: as he mentioned as I mentioned off the top the
- 6:29Speaker 1: OHL media poll get through that Colin and I sort
- 6:31Speaker 1: of early predictions on some of the media polo questions
- 6:34Speaker 1: that were given out by the OHL and Josh Sweetland
- 6:37Speaker 1: as always and then our preseason overreaction power rankings that
- 6:41Speaker 1: came out today so we'll we'll touch on all that
- 6:43Speaker 1: but a jam-packed season premiere episode of the OHL in
- 6:47Speaker 1: 60 podcast appreciate appreciate everybody being here with us and
- 6:49Speaker 1: if you're listening the next day then hopefully no more
- 6:51Speaker 1: news has come out on the audio version then you're
- 6:54Speaker 1: you're out of luck on that one but regardless of
- 6:56Speaker 1: that we're going to be live every Monday there are
- 6:58Speaker 1: going to be some weeks we're going to be live
- 6:59Speaker 1: on Tuesdays just depending on scheduling but every single week
- 7:03Speaker 1: we'll be here for you guys on the OHL in
- 7:05Speaker 1: 60 podcast so Colin let's start off with some OHL
- 7:08Speaker 1: headlines and We have to start off again. We don't
- 7:11Speaker 1: want to start off on a negative because we want
- 7:13Speaker 1: to talk about a lot of great things, but just
- 7:15Speaker 1: quickly wanted to give a quick, you know, shout out
- 7:19Speaker 1: and just thoughts and prayers for Matthew May. It's obviously
- 7:21Speaker 1: a really tough situation going down there in Arizona State.
- 7:25Speaker 1: An OHL player in his own right played a lot
- 7:27Speaker 1: with the Ottawa 67s. We had the pleasure of covering
- 7:30Speaker 1: this young man throughout his career.
- 7:32Speaker 3: St.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Louis Blues, you know, highly sought after draft pick. So
- 7:36Speaker 1: just a terrible situation. We're not going to talk too
- 7:38Speaker 1: much about it, but uh, as an OHL grad and
- 7:40Speaker 1: just as a, you know, the tight knit hockey community, uh,
- 7:44Speaker 1: thoughts and prayers go to Matthew May. It's really hoping, um,
- 7:46Speaker 1: you know, that he can recover from what was really
- 7:48Speaker 1: just a horrible situation a few weeks ago.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely. Well said Brandon. I mean, Matthew's whole
- 7:54Speaker 2: OHL career, how special it was in Ottawa, um, everything
- 7:57Speaker 2: he's done in the OHL. It's such a good family,
- 7:58Speaker 2: good person. Um, yeah. Thoughts and prayers without a doubt
- 8:02Speaker 2: go out to the Mayesh family and Matthew himself. Uh,
- 8:05Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see what teaching moment this can
- 8:06Speaker 2: bring to the, uh, the athletic department in summer training
- 8:10Speaker 2: out there in the NCAA. Definitely not a good look
- 8:13Speaker 2: for the Arizona state program. Who's fairly new to the
- 8:16Speaker 2: NCAA hockey division one, I guess theater you could say,
- 8:22Speaker 2: but it's tough. Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I mean, just maybe we need to rethink some of
- 8:26Speaker 1: our off season training and what we're, we're putting these
- 8:28Speaker 1: kids through, you know, especially when we're not even playing
- 8:31Speaker 1: games yet. So I don't want to touch too much
- 8:33Speaker 1: on that, but we wanted to show our support for,
- 8:35Speaker 1: an OHL grad and Matthew May, which again, all sending
- 8:38Speaker 1: all the prayers throughout the hockey community there. And another
- 8:41Speaker 1: big piece of news, obviously, if you watch the, any
- 8:45Speaker 1: of the OHL and 60 podcasts throughout the years, one
- 8:48Speaker 1: of our own has been moved. He's moved on and
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know, a great opportunity for our own Reese Domaney,
- 8:54Speaker 1: the new radio voice of the Niagara ice dogs and
- 8:57Speaker 1: country 89 Reese, you know, full circle for him started
- 9:00Speaker 1: off with the ice dogs doing dogs, TV and, obviously
- 9:03Speaker 1: spent some time with the Brantford Bulldogs, Brantford Titans, and
- 9:06Speaker 1: Will and Jackfish, and really, you know, cutting his teeth
- 9:09Speaker 1: in the play-by-play industry, and now really gets a great
- 9:12Speaker 1: opportunity here, and a lot of great things going on
- 9:15Speaker 1: for Niagara on and off the ice, and this was
- 9:16Speaker 1: a great, I think, moment for the organization and for
- 9:20Speaker 1: Reese as well, just, you know, wishing him all the best,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and obviously we'd like to have him on the show
- 9:25Speaker 1: here and there when we can, talking some ice dogs, but,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you know, he's going to be full-time there with Niagara,
- 9:30Speaker 1: so all the best to him, and you know, just
- 9:32Speaker 1: congratulations to him, obviously more than well-deserved.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, it was a great run. Um,
- 9:38Speaker 2: it was, it was a blast and I know, uh,
- 9:41Speaker 2: the ice dogs needed a lot of character and they
- 9:42Speaker 2: got a lot of characters. So that's big, um, for
- 9:44Speaker 2: that franchise and, uh, all the best recent. It'll be awesome.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Night one, night one, Friday night in Brantford is going
- 9:51Speaker 2: to be a blast as Brandon, you were on the
- 9:53Speaker 2: other end of that for how many years? And now
- 9:57Speaker 2: welcome to the club, Reese. Um, you know how that's
- 10:00Speaker 2: gonna go brandon it's always a blast you loved.
- 10:05Speaker 3: It bulldogs ice dogs and now he's on the other
- 10:07Speaker 3: side of it again so.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah it'll be a blast there'll be more of the
- 10:10Speaker 2: dog gas your bulldog fans listening.
- 10:12Speaker 1: On that absolutely So, uh, yeah, best of luck to
- 10:15Speaker 1: Reese and, uh, thank you for his contributions to, uh,
- 10:18Speaker 1: the network and the OHL and 60 podcast specifically alongside
- 10:21Speaker 1: Colin all those years.
- 10:22Speaker 3: So, uh, look forward to, uh, to catching up with
- 10:24Speaker 3: him when we can.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So Colin, uh, more headlines here and then I'm already,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, I can tell I'm already in preseason cause
- 10:31Speaker 1: I forgot the, the lineup already.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So the other, the other big broadcasting piece of news is, uh,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Aaron Cooney, former Erie Otters play by play is now
- 10:40Speaker 1: the voice of the anaheim ducks in the national hockey
- 10:43Speaker 1: league aaron cooney calls a great game listen to him
- 10:46Speaker 1: a little bit on the radio last year on the
- 10:47Speaker 1: ducks uh uh stream last year when he got to
- 10:50Speaker 1: fill in for a few games and i was going
- 10:51Speaker 1: to be full-time play-by-play uh you know it's a development
- 10:54Speaker 1: league the ontario hockey league for not just the players
- 10:56Speaker 1: but everybody involved and great to see uh an ohl
- 10:59Speaker 1: alum and aaron cooney getting an hl gig full-time.
- 11:01Speaker 2: 100 um that it's awesome to see aaron um get
- 11:05Speaker 2: that opportunity it's funny you went from reese you got
- 11:06Speaker 2: his first opportunity calling games play-by-play filling in for aaron
- 11:10Speaker 2: And now we got, what a segue, um, going to
- 11:14Speaker 2: Aaron Cooney, but definitely it's great to see the ducks
- 11:16Speaker 2: organization to trending in a positive direction is huge to
- 11:19Speaker 2: see Aaron get that opportunity with the respective team, right?
- 11:23Speaker 2: Like you want to be a respected team. You want
- 11:25Speaker 2: to cover a team and call games for a team
- 11:27Speaker 2: that gives you an opportunity to show your excitement level.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And the ducks will do that for sure. And it's
- 11:31Speaker 2: a great relationship. Aaron's definitely earned the right. Um, he's
- 11:34Speaker 2: paid his dues. You could say, and for Aaron to
- 11:36Speaker 2: get this opportunity, it's unbelievable. Um, huge for him. I mean,
- 11:40Speaker 2: 2013 to 21, like it says on your YouTube screen, um,
- 11:43Speaker 2: with the Erie Otters, uh, he called a lot of
- 11:45Speaker 2: big games for the Otters when it wasn't really the
- 11:49Speaker 2: brightest times. Then it got bright. He was there for
- 11:51Speaker 2: a lot of it. And it was, um, awesome to
- 11:53Speaker 2: see Aaron get that opportunity. When I saw that come
- 11:55Speaker 2: on my feed, I was thinking, that's awesome. It's nice
- 11:58Speaker 2: to see a good person, get the opportunity to write.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Like every time you see these people, some people get
- 12:02Speaker 2: these opportunities and it's like, ah, you know, like they're
- 12:05Speaker 2: great and all, but you know, like I've had a
- 12:07Speaker 2: bad relationship or something, you know, like I just kind
- 12:09Speaker 2: of rubbed the wrong way with Aaron. No, he's 100% respectable, man.
- 12:14Speaker 2: It's great to see him get that opportunity.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 1: He got to call some games for a guy that
- 12:19Speaker 1: wore number 97 in Erie and had some great times there, but.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He got the, the blankets, the radishes, the Strom's too.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Like he had some teams.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Quite the era.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And then he's paid his dues with the San Diego
- 12:30Speaker 1: goals and the AHL for the ducks and now getting
- 12:31Speaker 1: the opportunity to get the call up. So a great
- 12:33Speaker 1: job for Aaron Cooney. good things happen to good people.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And that's a, that's a great guy right there. So, uh, uh,
- 12:39Speaker 1: always love, uh, here in Aaron Cooney. And now we're
- 12:41Speaker 1: going to hear him more on.
- 12:41Speaker 3: The duck stream going forward. So, uh, all the congrats
- 12:44Speaker 3: to him.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Another big piece of news with, uh, somebody that's not
- 12:47Speaker 1: a player that's moved on, but, uh, I was texting
- 12:50Speaker 1: with Colin before the show. I think this was one
- 12:52Speaker 1: of the, one of the sneaky biggest moves of the
- 12:55Speaker 1: off season, uh, not involving a player. That's John Wynn
- 12:59Speaker 1: Stanley going from the North Bay battalion to the Barry Colts.
- 13:02Speaker 1: He's now the, president of hockey operations for Barry. Obviously,
- 13:07Speaker 1: he spent six seasons in the North Bay Battalion up
- 13:10Speaker 1: there with Adam Dennis and everything that they're doing up
- 13:13Speaker 1: there in North Bay under Ryan Ulihan's coaching staff. John
- 13:16Speaker 1: Winstanley did a great job, and now he's going to Barry. Obviously,
- 13:20Speaker 1: Marty Williamson's still there as the general manager, but to
- 13:24Speaker 1: have John Winstanley's experience as the president of hockey operations, Colin,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think this is going to be a big move
- 13:30Speaker 1: for Barry in the long term.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I think it's someone that Can work
- 13:34Speaker 2: well with Marty. I think that's a big one in
- 13:35Speaker 2: the front office, right, with the general manager and the
- 13:37Speaker 2: president like this being able to work together. A lot
- 13:41Speaker 2: of credibility, obviously, with John coming into Bay Area with
- 13:43Speaker 2: all the work he's done in North Bay and his
- 13:45Speaker 2: track record speaks for itself. It's interesting to go from
- 13:49Speaker 2: North Bay to Bay Area. I wonder what North Bay
- 13:51Speaker 2: staff thinks about it, if it's mutual, you know, but
- 13:54Speaker 2: for the Barry Colts perspective, it's a great ad. I mean,
- 13:58Speaker 2: in this day and age, credibility does not hurt. And
- 14:02Speaker 2: you got to have the resources. Resources is everything now
- 14:05Speaker 2: with the new age and hockey with the NCAA and everything.
- 14:09Speaker 2: The more credibility you have in your organization, the more
- 14:11Speaker 2: resources you have, the more selling features you have. And
- 14:14Speaker 2: I think for this one and John going to Barry,
- 14:17Speaker 2: it's just extra depth to the staff. And I think
- 14:19Speaker 2: that's important nowadays more than ever. And the track record
- 14:22Speaker 2: speaks for itself, right? How he started off in player
- 14:24Speaker 2: development with the North Bay battalion, assistant general manager for
- 14:27Speaker 2: all those years when Adam Dennis came in and then
- 14:30Speaker 2: gets that opportunity. Adam Dennis gives, promotes them to the
- 14:33Speaker 2: general manager spot for the last two years in North Bay.
- 14:36Speaker 2: North Bay was one of those teams where if it
- 14:37Speaker 2: wasn't for Ottawa last year, everyone's like North Bay battalion
- 14:41Speaker 2: are going to take it down here. You're going to
- 14:42Speaker 2: take it down here. And then they never really did.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And I think there's two, two people you can credit
- 14:46Speaker 2: that are three people. You can credit that Adam Dennis, Ryan,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and John win Stanley. I think those are the three guys.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And you look at that organization, North Bay, they were staples.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And I think when you look at Barry now off
- 14:56Speaker 2: the year that coming off the year, they just had right.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And the going to the OHL finals the way they did, right.
- 15:02Speaker 2: You add, you add John to the staff. Well, now
- 15:04Speaker 2: you got the three, right. You got the coach, the
- 15:06Speaker 2: GM and the president. And I think that's huge. You
- 15:09Speaker 2: need a big three to be competitive nowadays with the
- 15:11Speaker 2: NCAA is too big of a pawn. And to have
- 15:14Speaker 2: three respectable people like that in your organization is is
- 15:17Speaker 2: massive and i think for the barry colts this is
- 15:19Speaker 2: a huge huge huge successful point off the ice it
- 15:23Speaker 2: also helps marty get a little bit of a break
- 15:24Speaker 2: too in the scouting staff everywhere you see him you
- 15:27Speaker 2: know like take it easy you gotta have someone else
- 15:29Speaker 2: go too right so i think it's awesome um to
- 15:32Speaker 2: have that respect in the organization and uh have the
- 15:35Speaker 2: people there to be resources as well and selling.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Features stability is is a big thing that's north bay's
- 15:41Speaker 1: had with those three and now With new ownership in
- 15:44Speaker 1: Barry too, that's going to help as well with John
- 15:46Speaker 1: Winstanley coming in there to help Dylan Smoskowicz and Marty Williamson,
- 15:50Speaker 1: as you mentioned.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So a big move there.
- 15:52Speaker 1: And I think that'll take a few years to really
- 15:55Speaker 1: reap the benefits of it. But John Winstanley, I think
- 15:57Speaker 1: one of the better executives in the Ontario Hockey League.
- 16:00Speaker 1: So a big get there for the Barry Colts and
- 16:03Speaker 1: taking him from a division rival in the Central Division
- 16:06Speaker 1: within the North Bay Battalion. So we'll see how that
- 16:09Speaker 1: goes over. Some key dates just to quickly go over
- 16:12Speaker 1: in the Ontario Hockey League this year. Colin, there's two
- 16:14Speaker 1: graphics here. September 17th, obviously, is the regular season opener
- 16:19Speaker 1: in a few days. The overage roster is reduced to
- 16:22Speaker 1: November 13th. The CHL USA Prospect Challenge is December 1st
- 16:26Speaker 1: and 2nd. So some key dates there. We'll get to
- 16:29Speaker 1: page two here shortly as it pulls up.
- 16:32Speaker 3: There we go.
- 16:33Speaker 1: December 4th to January 5th is the World Junior Trade Restriction.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So Obviously, restricted players from goes into effect for players
- 16:42Speaker 1: that are participating at the World Juniors cannot be traded
- 16:45Speaker 1: until after the tournament's over. The holiday trade restrictions from
- 16:48Speaker 1: the 20th to the 26th. So a trade freeze there.
- 16:51Speaker 1: And then the overage trade deadline is January 7th. The
- 16:54Speaker 1: actual trade deadline is January 8th. And then the overage
- 16:58Speaker 1: signing deadline is January 15th. So a lot of key
- 17:01Speaker 1: dates there and appreciate the Ontario Hockey League. really starting
- 17:04Speaker 1: to be as transparent as they can with, uh, keeping
- 17:07Speaker 1: not only the media, but the fans up to date with,
- 17:09Speaker 1: with exactly what's going on and, and, and what key
- 17:11Speaker 1: dates are within the league.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Absolutely. The Josh Sweetland, uh, PR, what an upgrade that was. Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 2: That's an effect on, um, from Josh's part, uh, on
- 17:22Speaker 2: the Instagram and on Twitter. Uh, that was awesome to
- 17:24Speaker 2: see that, uh, that feature that Josh has created for himself.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I mean, that platform is huge. It's, it's definitely reliable
- 17:30Speaker 2: for myself and I'm sure fans really, uh, really get
- 17:33Speaker 2: a kick out of that. And it's nice to, it's
- 17:34Speaker 2: a nice piece of information for people to go for.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So we'll go quickly over the U 16, uh, obviously, uh,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know, long ways away from next year's OHL draft,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but you know, guy that didn't get granted exceptional status,
- 17:47Speaker 1: Cato worked and nobody's shock is going to be number one, uh,
- 17:50Speaker 1: on that board, Jasper Wang and Beckham Hunter, the top
- 17:52Speaker 1: three there. So just a couple of names to monitor, uh,
- 17:55Speaker 1: in the, uh, the U 16 draft and we'll see,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you know, as tournaments go on throughout the year and
- 18:00Speaker 1: reach the OHL cup. And then the, uh, the live
- 18:02Speaker 1: ohl draft that was a big success this last year
- 18:05Speaker 1: in kingston so a couple notable names to keep an
- 18:08Speaker 1: eye on there but obviously kate o'rourke is going to
- 18:10Speaker 1: be on the top everybody's list just missed out on
- 18:12Speaker 1: exceptional status the young american defenseman but uh you know
- 18:15Speaker 1: going back to the toronto junior canadians for another year
- 18:17Speaker 1: expect uh you know him to have his name called
- 18:19Speaker 1: uh next whoever has the first overall pick next year
- 18:22Speaker 1: i guess yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 2: No absolutely i mean it was the topic heard Here
- 18:27Speaker 2: on the only John 60 podcast for Reese, for yourself
- 18:30Speaker 2: and myself, all we talk, all that's what we talked
- 18:32Speaker 2: about for the last month. It felt like going into
- 18:34Speaker 2: the draft, Kate O'Rourke, is he getting exceptional status? Is
- 18:36Speaker 2: he not? Yeah. Yeah. Hear the reports from some insiders. No,
- 18:41Speaker 2: then yes. Then it was a teeter totter. And this
- 18:44Speaker 2: year's the year for Kate. And it's exciting to see
- 18:46Speaker 2: him excel throughout the season here with Toronto again. And
- 18:50Speaker 2: I'm sure you'll have all the success in the world.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So we'll go from the OHL draft to the NHL draft.
- 18:57Speaker 1: OHL players, the top players that are on the 2027
- 19:01Speaker 1: NHL entry draft, I guess, radar. Some of the top
- 19:05Speaker 1: ones there, as you can see on the screen, I'll
- 19:07Speaker 1: just read them off. You're listening to us. Yakko Y6
- 19:09Speaker 1: right now, number five. Dima Zilkin, number 11. Alex Kuhlman
- 19:14Speaker 1: is 18th. Cooper, Cooper McGaslin is number 23. Number 25,
- 19:21Speaker 1: Levi Harper. Number 26 is Brenner Lehmans. And number 28
- 19:25Speaker 1: is Keaton Arda. And then Alex Forrest, a late potential
- 19:29Speaker 1: first round pick there. So obviously a big year for
- 19:33Speaker 1: the Ontario Hockey League as always, but a lot of
- 19:35Speaker 1: key names that we'll be keeping an eye on throughout
- 19:37Speaker 1: the year there.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm excited. I'm very intrigued to see the
- 19:40Speaker 2: Sarnia Stank. The OHL, they highlighted in the graphic as well,
- 19:44Speaker 2: Brenner Lehmans, a greater Dalhai area guy, Langton, Ontario native,
- 19:47Speaker 2: had to mention that. I think that with Brenner and
- 19:50Speaker 2: the Sarnia Sting, is this the year? Is this the
- 19:53Speaker 2: year where the Sting make the playoffs? Something's got to give.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And I feel like this has to be the year
- 20:00Speaker 2: you have some of these players who have returned with
- 20:02Speaker 2: some you know, with some skills, they added the guys
- 20:05Speaker 2: like Parker Holmes. Does that move the needle a lot?
- 20:07Speaker 2: I don't know, but Brenner lemons in his draft year,
- 20:10Speaker 2: some of these guys that are getting bigger roles this
- 20:13Speaker 2: year in Sarnia, is this the year, this thing make
- 20:15Speaker 2: the playoffs? My, my opinion that they have to, you
- 20:18Speaker 2: have to make the playoffs this year, new ownership, new
- 20:21Speaker 2: staff year one. You gotta make, you gotta make the
- 20:24Speaker 2: playoffs this year. Um, You know, you got to revive
- 20:28Speaker 2: the hive. You got to get it going again. It's
- 20:30Speaker 2: bee season in Ontario here. The bees are terrible. So
- 20:33Speaker 2: it's starting to sting time. Maybe that's a sign. I
- 20:35Speaker 2: don't know.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But Cohen Ishkok, again, is still one of my favorite
- 20:40Speaker 1: names in the Ontario Hockey League. And he's a really
- 20:42Speaker 1: solid player for the Ottawa 67s. You know, there's a
- 20:46Speaker 1: lot of great names on that list. I think Alex
- 20:48Speaker 1: Forrest is a guy everybody's looking forward to seeing in
- 20:50Speaker 1: his first full season of Ontario Hockey League play. I
- 20:53Speaker 1: think if the Kitchener Rangers weren't so loaded, he probably
- 20:55Speaker 1: would have been up with them last season for a
- 20:57Speaker 1: team that went on to uh win the ohl championship
- 20:59Speaker 1: the memorial cup he played really well uh in junior
- 21:01Speaker 1: b last season so uh he's a guy you know
- 21:04Speaker 1: that everybody's kind of looking at uh ryerson edgar going
- 21:06Speaker 1: to be a big part of niagara as well so
- 21:08Speaker 1: a lot of guys to look at uh at the
- 21:10Speaker 1: top of that list though is yako ysic.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah no absolutely um ysic's going to be a stud
- 21:15Speaker 2: um he's gonna have every opportunity as well right and
- 21:17Speaker 2: i i would imagine he's gonna play a top six
- 21:19Speaker 2: role with the guel storm right so you're gonna get
- 21:21Speaker 2: every opportunity um in your draft year like that saw
- 21:24Speaker 2: it last year first hand with caleb maholtra Right. And like,
- 21:27Speaker 2: I feel like that's a similar situation here with a
- 21:30Speaker 2: Y6 going to get a big top six role and
- 21:33Speaker 2: they're going to rely on him in that role as well.
- 21:35Speaker 2: It's not just a cliche. Hey, we're going to put
- 21:37Speaker 2: the draft, the big name draft, your kid in the
- 21:40Speaker 2: top six and he's going to be there all year. No,
- 21:43Speaker 2: he's going to earn his way. And I mean, he's
- 21:44Speaker 2: going to perform that way. And he's earned that right.
- 21:47Speaker 2: And I mean, you watch him play on the weekend
- 21:49Speaker 2: here in the preseason golf has everybody out of the
- 21:51Speaker 2: lineup and he's still putting up points. He's still leading
- 21:53Speaker 2: the team. um really and a good opportunity to be
- 21:56Speaker 2: a leader and you still see scouts watching here in
- 21:57Speaker 2: the preseason just of what he's done uh with everyone
- 22:00Speaker 2: else gone right you think about the amount of players
- 22:02Speaker 2: out of guelph's lineup here in the preseason well it's
- 22:04Speaker 2: a great opportunity to watch um it's a great opportunity
- 22:07Speaker 2: so i think that um for him it's a big
- 22:10Speaker 2: selling feature here too in the preseason preseason games they
- 22:12Speaker 2: don't mean much wins and loss records but they do
- 22:14Speaker 2: mean stuff for the players like that to get the
- 22:16Speaker 2: opportunity to step up and play a role because right
- 22:19Speaker 2: now he's probably the the main focal feature for other
- 22:21Speaker 2: teams zoning in, doing a little bit of pre-scout on
- 22:24Speaker 2: other teams in the preseason.
- 22:25Speaker 3: And it works out for him.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He's going to have the spotlight on him all year
- 22:27Speaker 1: with the Gulf storm hosting the Memorial cup. So even,
- 22:30Speaker 1: even more of a bump for Yakko Wysik in a
- 22:32Speaker 1: year where his team is also going to be in
- 22:35Speaker 1: the Memorial cup.
- 22:35Speaker 2: So shout out to the Gulf storm to love the docs,
- 22:39Speaker 2: love the documentaries. Those are sweet. The eye of the storm.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Those are sweet. um, shout out to Guelph for documenting
- 22:45Speaker 2: their season and having it out on time like that too. That's,
- 22:48Speaker 2: that's cool. Um, for Guelph, uh, I think that's right
- 22:51Speaker 2: on to really document, use the resources that you have
- 22:54Speaker 2: and the opportunity you have off the ice as well
- 22:56Speaker 2: to grow your brand during a big year for the
- 22:58Speaker 2: Guelph storm.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be a big one in Guelph and, uh,
- 23:02Speaker 1: obviously a lot of behind the scenes work to get them, uh,
- 23:04Speaker 1: to that Memorial cup and we'll see if they can
- 23:06Speaker 1: get there through the front door winning the Ontario hockey
- 23:08Speaker 1: league championship. So, Another piece of news that just came
- 23:11Speaker 1: in right as we were about to record, so we
- 23:13Speaker 1: had to throw it in. It's big news in Kingston.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Troy Mann and Corey Cooper, their general manager and their
- 23:18Speaker 1: head coach, both extended to multi-year contracts, first announced at
- 23:22Speaker 1: their season ticket member town hall. So obviously we talked
- 23:26Speaker 1: about stability a little bit earlier and having the same voices.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Troy Mann, Corey Cooper have been in Kingston for quite
- 23:31Speaker 1: a while now. Corey Cooper, GM of the year a
- 23:33Speaker 1: few years ago. Troy Mann brings that pro style coaching
- 23:37Speaker 1: in the American Hockey League for a long time and
- 23:39Speaker 1: had a lot of success. So having a Troy man
- 23:41Speaker 1: and Corey Cooper there, you know, locked at the hip
- 23:43Speaker 1: and Kingston should mean long-term success for them going forward.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. And I think this is a big
- 23:48Speaker 2: year for the front next, right? You return both your
- 23:49Speaker 2: goaltenders who had success last season, a lot of returning
- 23:53Speaker 2: players for Kingston to give yourself a good chance. You
- 23:55Speaker 2: saw the deadline last year, them add for this year, right?
- 23:59Speaker 2: Kind of what I thought the Sudbury wolves were going
- 24:00Speaker 2: to do. We'll get to that. That's a little preview. Um,
- 24:04Speaker 2: but I think that this is one for Kingston that
- 24:06Speaker 2: is unbelievable. Um, Troy, man, the way the system is, right?
- 24:09Speaker 2: You play that man-on-man forward-checking system. You got too low.
- 24:13Speaker 2: You really got to earn your breakout. You got to
- 24:14Speaker 2: play with pace against the Kingston front. Actually, you're in
- 24:17Speaker 2: for one night. You have a night, especially in that building, right? Like,
- 24:20Speaker 2: Kingston fans, I want you to fill that building so badly.
- 24:24Speaker 2: But for visiting teams, it is so tough to go
- 24:27Speaker 2: in there and play when you see this all the time.
- 24:30Speaker 2: When you go into that building and the way they
- 24:32Speaker 2: play the system, the way they do things, it's tough
- 24:35Speaker 2: to play in their arena at the slush pub. It's
- 24:38Speaker 2: tough to play there. And I think for Kingston, this
- 24:41Speaker 2: is huge. I mean, what Corey Cooper's done in the
- 24:43Speaker 2: front office as well, getting some of these big-name draft
- 24:46Speaker 2: picks that they've had, making some quality trades, giving yourself
- 24:49Speaker 2: a chance, right? The front and back, let's be honest there,
- 24:53Speaker 2: how long did they go without winning a round, right?
- 24:54Speaker 2: They got that stability now. They're using it. Their resource
- 24:59Speaker 2: is wisely. A lot of teams got to take notes
- 25:02Speaker 2: on that. But for Corey Cooper, Troy, man, nobody more
- 25:05Speaker 2: deserving for those two gentlemen. To see Troy Mann come
- 25:07Speaker 2: to the OHL and lead the way he has, it's
- 25:09Speaker 2: been spectacular for the Frontenacs.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 25:13Speaker 1: It's going to be big for Kingston going forward and
- 25:15Speaker 1: coming off the momentum of just hosting the OHL draft.
- 25:18Speaker 1: We'll see if they can really take a step within
- 25:20Speaker 1: the playoffs. We'd love to hear Jimmy Gilchrist calling some
- 25:23Speaker 1: OHL final games on the radio. It's something that I
- 25:25Speaker 1: really want to see in the next couple of years.
- 25:27Speaker 1: There's only one Jimmy Gilchrist, and he's one of the
- 25:31Speaker 1: names you think of most when you think of the Kingston.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Frontenacs for sure.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Every time you talk to Jimmy, he's got a story.
- 25:36Speaker 2: He's got a story.
- 25:37Speaker 3: He's the real Jimmy G, not Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 25:41Speaker 3: He's Garoppolo.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't even think he's in the league anymore,
- 25:44Speaker 1: so there you go. But we got about 1,000 trades
- 25:47Speaker 1: to go through, but we're not going to go through
- 25:49Speaker 1: all of them. Again, we're just going to go over
- 25:51Speaker 1: some of the most recent ones and some of the
- 25:52Speaker 1: most notable ones from the offseason. So we'll start here
- 25:55Speaker 1: with one that's right up Collins Alley here. Recently, Max
- 25:59Speaker 1: Korvik goes from Brantford to Owen Sound for a third, fourth,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and fifth round pick. So two goaltenders from Brantford go
- 26:05Speaker 1: to Owen Sound this offseason, Ryerson Lienders first, and now
- 26:09Speaker 1: Maxim Korovic. So obviously Spencer Hyman recouping some draft pick
- 26:12Speaker 1: capital and Owen Sound getting himself another nice young goaltender.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Maxim Korovic getting the opportunity in Owen
- 26:19Speaker 2: Sound's huge. From a Bulldogs perspective, Chase Petrov has come
- 26:23Speaker 2: in and been a huge story since day one of camp.
- 26:26Speaker 2: There's more on the dog cast. You'll hear more on
- 26:29Speaker 2: that for Bulldog fans. But I explained it similar to
- 26:31Speaker 2: the Brett Brochu situation in London. where Jordan Coy, who
- 26:35Speaker 2: was a veteran, it was his kind of turn, you
- 26:37Speaker 2: could say, to be the guy. And then a young
- 26:40Speaker 2: man at a junior scene named Brett Brochu comes in
- 26:44Speaker 2: and never looked back. Let's be honest. He's one of
- 26:46Speaker 2: the best goaltenders the Knights have had in a steep
- 26:49Speaker 2: history of success in between the pipes. So I feel
- 26:52Speaker 2: like for Kurovic, it's that opportunity. He's going to be
- 26:54Speaker 2: an elite goaltender in the Ontario Hockey League. And for
- 26:57Speaker 2: Owen Sound, it makes perfect sense for Tyler Nutter and
- 26:59Speaker 2: staff This is a perfect type of trade. It'll be
- 27:02Speaker 2: interesting to see what Kaprowski goes, where, where he goes.
- 27:06Speaker 2: That's going to be interesting. It's kind of the elephant
- 27:08Speaker 2: in the room. When you think of this trade, you're
- 27:10Speaker 2: going to, well, they're not going to treat leanders. You
- 27:13Speaker 2: got that.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I'm going to run with three goalies again. Like they
- 27:15Speaker 3: did last year.
- 27:15Speaker 2: They better not. Or that'll be a ran every single
- 27:18Speaker 2: week until the trade deadline. Again. I, I think that
- 27:23Speaker 2: that'll be, I think that'll, I think it'll solve itself,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but obviously you make the trade. You trade three picks,
- 27:28Speaker 2: no conditions. Kurovic's going to play. You're not going to
- 27:30Speaker 2: trade for him. You make all the moves. You trade
- 27:33Speaker 2: Kawaja in multiple picks like they did to Brantford earlier
- 27:36Speaker 2: for Ryerson leaners. You're not going to move leaners. If
- 27:39Speaker 2: you're going to move them again, you're not going to
- 27:40Speaker 2: get what you gave up originally. So that's just bad
- 27:43Speaker 2: management if they were to make that move. So the
- 27:45Speaker 2: writing's on the wall there with Kaprowski. I'm very interested
- 27:49Speaker 2: to see this duo. I'm excited to see the future
- 27:51Speaker 2: of Owen Sound. This deal makes perfect sense when you
- 27:53Speaker 2: look at it for both sides. Branford gets three picks,
- 27:56Speaker 2: an opportunity for themselves to rebuild the cupboard with the
- 28:00Speaker 2: draft picks. And then for Owen Sound, Lenders is done
- 28:03Speaker 2: after this year. Maxime Kurovic, the future, right? You don't
- 28:07Speaker 2: have to play him all the time. You can play
- 28:09Speaker 2: him 20 games, 30 games out of the 68, and
- 28:12Speaker 2: that's perfect. Let's be honest, the Bayshore, it's a drive
- 28:15Speaker 2: in the Midwest, so they could play a Friday night
- 28:17Speaker 2: game in Kitchener, which we'll see a lot, or Guelph
- 28:20Speaker 2: or London. Saturday night, they're at home at the Bayshore, right?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Perfect Kurovic games. They have stability in net now, and
- 28:26Speaker 2: I'm very excited to see what they can do. In
- 28:29Speaker 2: a year where Owen Sound was so interesting, Brandon, because
- 28:32Speaker 2: you look at Owen Sound and you think, well, Carter
- 28:34Speaker 2: George before the trade, it was always Carter George, right? Like,
- 28:38Speaker 2: you knew the stability. You get Ryerson leaners. You get
- 28:41Speaker 2: Maxim Kurovic. you got stability. Owen Sound, that's one thing
- 28:44Speaker 2: from their team that they've always prioritized. And now with
- 28:47Speaker 2: the new management there, you got to build from the
- 28:49Speaker 2: back out. Dale DeGray did it. And now we're seeing
- 28:52Speaker 2: Tyler Renauder and staff do the same thing here with
- 28:54Speaker 2: the Owen Sound attack and the new ownership group. So
- 28:57Speaker 2: very interesting to see Owen Sound really knock it away
- 28:59Speaker 2: from their bread and butter.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And another big trade involving the Brantford Bulldogs earlier this offseason,
- 29:05Speaker 1: former first overall pick in the OHL draft, Caden McGregor
- 29:09Speaker 1: goes from the Peterborough Pete's to the Brantford Bulldogs in
- 29:12Speaker 1: exchange for Cooper Dennis and a one for one straight
- 29:15Speaker 1: up trade. Again, Peterborough has lost some really top end
- 29:18Speaker 1: draft picks in the last couple of years and Colin Fitzgerald,
- 29:20Speaker 1: Caden McGregor now and a one for one deal, obviously
- 29:24Speaker 1: a massive get for Brantford, you know, in a new
- 29:26Speaker 1: era for them with a lot of new faces there.
- 29:29Speaker 1: But bringing in a guy that was literally just the
- 29:31Speaker 1: first overall pick a year ago is a big gift
- 29:33Speaker 1: for Spencer Hyman. And hopefully Cooper Dennis can be, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 1: a solid contributor for the Peterborough Pete's this season.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think this deal for both sides
- 29:41Speaker 2: makes sense. Originally, originally there was a lot of talk
- 29:43Speaker 2: on social media and that's why you can't read too
- 29:45Speaker 2: much into online social media, because that's where all the
- 29:47Speaker 2: GMs are not actually in the front office doing the
- 29:51Speaker 2: day to day. But we'll get to that maybe with
- 29:53Speaker 2: another trade. I might have a different opinion on that,
- 29:55Speaker 2: but this trade makes sense for both teams. You look
- 29:58Speaker 2: at Peterborough's rosters, You look at their overagers. You look
- 30:00Speaker 2: at Lucas Karmiris. You look at Braden McCallum. You look
- 30:04Speaker 2: at some of these guys that they have that are
- 30:06Speaker 2: veteran guys in their lineup. Adam Novotny comes back as
- 30:09Speaker 2: a draft year player. Cooper Dennis fits that mold, that window,
- 30:14Speaker 2: kind of creates what Peterborough is for the now. Question is,
- 30:18Speaker 2: do they have the goaltending to do it? Do they
- 30:22Speaker 2: make a trade for a goaltender? There's been talks about
- 30:24Speaker 2: that as well. I don't like, I feel like with
- 30:27Speaker 2: the Pete's, you look at their roster right now, when
- 30:30Speaker 2: you make this trade with Cooper Dennis, it kind of,
- 30:32Speaker 2: it kind of says, Hey, this is our window. It
- 30:34Speaker 2: announces our window. Sudbury take notes. And it's, and it's
- 30:39Speaker 2: kind of in the now it's in the now and
- 30:41Speaker 2: it gives yourself a chance for Brantford. Brantford went all
- 30:44Speaker 2: in last year. They, they went all in last year.
- 30:46Speaker 2: They moved the pieces. Hey, rightly so. That was their window. Now,
- 30:50Speaker 2: Caden McGregor comes in a 17 year old fits that group.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Brantford's play Brantford's placement. They want to be a team
- 30:57Speaker 2: that can have guys for two to three years. You
- 31:00Speaker 2: look at their draft with Aiden Kelly. You look at
- 31:02Speaker 2: some of the guys that they've sent down in junior
- 31:04Speaker 2: B who came in at good cast, Brent, uh, Bo Christina,
- 31:06Speaker 2: 10th round pick who just got cut this week. I mean,
- 31:10Speaker 2: how many, he was a lot like Avery Hayes was
- 31:12Speaker 2: when he came in. Um, Dog cast. Listen to that,
- 31:15Speaker 2: Bulldog fans. If you want to know more on Bo Cristini,
- 31:17Speaker 2: read Duffy on last week. Great, great comp on Avery
- 31:21Speaker 2: Hayes and Bo Cristini's play. But the Bulldogs have had
- 31:24Speaker 2: a lot of success in the draft that they think
- 31:26Speaker 2: this year. So when you look at Caden McGregor, he
- 31:28Speaker 2: fits the court for next year and the year after
- 31:31Speaker 2: that when the new arena opens and an opportunity. That's
- 31:34Speaker 2: kind of the window. Yes, the Bulldogs made a lot
- 31:37Speaker 2: of signings this year and it might give them a chance,
- 31:40Speaker 2: but it gives you an opportunity to for the fan
- 31:43Speaker 2: base to adapt to a new core. And let's be honest,
- 31:47Speaker 2: Bulldog fans in Brantford are having a hard time doing
- 31:49Speaker 2: that because they really haven't had to do that since
- 31:51Speaker 2: moving there. Matt Turek and staff before Spencer Hyman took
- 31:54Speaker 2: over have done a spectacular job building up a core.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Bulldogs are in that phase again, trying to sell the
- 32:00Speaker 2: roster to the fans, and we'll see what happens. But
- 32:03Speaker 2: Cade McGregor's a huge add for them, and the offense
- 32:05Speaker 2: is going to be relied on any given night. Cade McGregor,
- 32:08Speaker 2: who is cleared, by the way, I posted on X
- 32:10Speaker 2: about it, for the Bulldogs game on Friday night. For
- 32:12Speaker 2: those wondering, Caden McGregor is going to play Friday night
- 32:15Speaker 2: against the Niagara Ice Dogs for the Bulldogs season opener.
- 32:18Speaker 2: So that's right on to see Caden get that opportunity.
- 32:20Speaker 2: And it's awesome. I'm expecting a big roll for Caden McGregor.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Stay tuned to social media. I'll say that for the
- 32:28Speaker 2: coming week. There'll be Caden McGregor news, that's for sure.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Going to be a fun debut for the former first
- 32:33Speaker 1: overall pick by the Peterborough Peets last season. So expecting
- 32:36Speaker 1: a lot from him in a Brantford uniform. Another massive
- 32:39Speaker 1: deal this off season was Declan McNally going from the
- 32:42Speaker 1: Guelph storm to the Barry Colts. Obviously a big gift
- 32:45Speaker 1: for Barry getting a young player of his caliber. And,
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, you get the compensatory eighth overall pick.
- 32:52Speaker 3: You get a.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Couple of seconds, a couple of thirds, a fourth and
- 32:56Speaker 1: a fifth for his rights. And that just gives Georgia
- 32:59Speaker 1: Burnett and the Guelph storm more draft pick ammunition to
- 33:01Speaker 1: be able to use in future trades as they continue
- 33:04Speaker 1: to load up for the Memorial cup run. So, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 1: this seems like a perfect trade for both sides and
- 33:09Speaker 1: for John Wynn Stanley and Marty Williamson, they get a
- 33:12Speaker 1: good young player here.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah. And they must've liked Declan's game, right? That's a big,
- 33:16Speaker 2: it's not a Sudbury give up, but it's a big,
- 33:19Speaker 2: it's a big amount of picks to give up. And
- 33:20Speaker 2: for Guelph, it's a huge trade for Guelph. I love
- 33:22Speaker 2: this deal for the Guelph storm, to be honest on
- 33:24Speaker 2: that side. I mean, Declan's going to be a heck
- 33:26Speaker 2: of a player for Barry. He's going to be a
- 33:27Speaker 2: stalwart back there for them. And he's a great player.
- 33:29Speaker 2: It's a great trade for both sides, but for Guelph
- 33:31Speaker 2: and Memorial cup here to have those precious draft picks
- 33:34Speaker 2: and and to not have to trade other players off
- 33:36Speaker 2: your roster because, hey, I have an extra second-round pick.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I have an extra third-round pick. It's huge maybe for
- 33:42Speaker 2: the following seasons to give Guelph a chance. Remember Saginaw.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Saginaw didn't really take the biggest fall off after Memorial Cup.
- 33:47Speaker 2: They were able to trade those extra picks because they
- 33:51Speaker 2: got those extra picks the year before. The Mintikoff trades
- 33:53Speaker 2: and trades like that, right? So this is a big
- 33:55Speaker 2: trade for the Guelph Storm as well to give themselves
- 33:57Speaker 2: a chance to the future. as well to build a
- 34:00Speaker 2: roster for not just this year, obviously where they are
- 34:02Speaker 2: all in, but it gives you an opportunity next year
- 34:04Speaker 2: as well to have a respectable team. Well, it doesn't
- 34:06Speaker 2: miss the playoffs all too often. So that's a good
- 34:09Speaker 2: trade for the well storm too.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Good trade for both sides and what they're looking to
- 34:13Speaker 1: do within, you know, their cycle and their windows in
- 34:16Speaker 1: the Ontario hockey league. Really liked that trade a lot
- 34:18Speaker 1: for both sides. So another trade that just came through
- 34:21Speaker 1: a couple of days ago here, two West teams making
- 34:24Speaker 1: a swap here, the London Knights getting Carson Harmer and
- 34:27Speaker 1: a fourth offensively, round pick in 27 from the Saginaw
- 34:31Speaker 1: spirit for forward Brady Wasslin. So this will be Wasslin's
- 34:35Speaker 1: obviously third team here, uh, drafted by Niagara fourth overall
- 34:38Speaker 1: traded the London last season. And now he's going to
- 34:40Speaker 1: go to the Saginaw spirit. And I think this is
- 34:42Speaker 1: a really sneaky, good ad for, uh, for Saginaw. And
- 34:45Speaker 1: I really, you know, think Brady's going to have a
- 34:47Speaker 1: really good season there, especially if a guy like Nikita
- 34:49Speaker 1: Klepov comes back, um, would be even better for that
- 34:52Speaker 1: Saginaw spirit team, but, uh, Carson Harmer, a good player
- 34:55Speaker 1: as well in his own right, Colin and, uh, you know, maybe,
- 34:57Speaker 1: maybe Dale Hunter thinks that this is the type of
- 34:59Speaker 1: move that can make the London Knights more competitive in
- 35:02Speaker 1: all three phases of the game.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, for sure. I think this, I think this
- 35:06Speaker 2: trade makes sense for both teams, obviously saying, and I
- 35:08Speaker 2: was getting a lot of points. They're losing. They're going
- 35:10Speaker 2: to gain more points in Wausland than they will Harmer,
- 35:13Speaker 2: but Harmer fits the London Knight system. And you look
- 35:15Speaker 2: at the London Knight type to trades. This is, this
- 35:17Speaker 2: is a perfect trade for the London Knights. It's a
- 35:20Speaker 2: responsible center. It's kind of opposite players. No disrespect to
- 35:24Speaker 2: Brady Wausland, but, the defensive end that Carson Harmer, the fate,
- 35:29Speaker 2: the late face-offs that you're going to get out of
- 35:31Speaker 2: Carson Harmer. Remember when they had the Sean McGurns, right?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Like those are the guys that the London Knights always
- 35:37Speaker 2: have Landon Sim that play a huge role for them.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Jacob Julian, like huge roles. That's what Carson Harmer is
- 35:45Speaker 2: in a year. Then I think the Knights are going
- 35:46Speaker 2: to be really good. This deal makes perfect sense. They're
- 35:49Speaker 2: going to have a lot of goal scoring anyways. I mean,
- 35:52Speaker 2: what's Cobra going to do in the scoring race, right?
- 35:54Speaker 2: He's going to be a player to watch the night.
- 35:55Speaker 2: You're going to have a lot of scores in the
- 35:57Speaker 2: top end, top end of the scoring department. And that's
- 36:00Speaker 2: why this deal makes sense for them. And for Saginaw goals, goals, goals,
- 36:03Speaker 2: maybe it's about scoring goals. They want to dance with
- 36:06Speaker 2: somebody there in that goal song. And they're going to
- 36:07Speaker 2: dance with the back of the net when they get
- 36:09Speaker 2: Brady Watson. I think that's a huge, I think it's
- 36:10Speaker 2: a huge deal for Saginaw, right? You get to, you
- 36:13Speaker 2: get that opportunity. Hey, Philip Zadina, the great red wing
- 36:17Speaker 2: shout out to Reese. I hope he's still listening. I'm live.
- 36:21Speaker 2: A Red Wing, great. Not. I'm going to miss a
- 36:25Speaker 2: Red Wing. Oh, this year especially, Brandon. This year especially.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Brady Waslin. You know, he's going to fill the net
- 36:34Speaker 2: with pucks, right? Philip Zadina's all-time draft quote. So I
- 36:38Speaker 2: think that's what he's going to do in Waslin. I'm
- 36:39Speaker 2: excited to see this trade for both sides. I think
- 36:41Speaker 2: it's a great deal for both sides. It's a hockey trade.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I'd love to see if Nikita Klepov came back to
- 36:46Speaker 1: see him and Waslin together as a combination would be.
- 36:48Speaker 2: With Shilkin? Yeah.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Oh man, that would be worth the price of admission
- 36:52Speaker 3: in Saginaw.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I want to dance with somebody. Yeah. It's almost eight
- 36:57Speaker 2: o'clock on a Monday night, Brandon. I'm fired up.
- 37:00Speaker 1: We'll be calling Dylan Clark, the play-by-play voice of the
- 37:03Speaker 1: Saginaw spirit for, for tickets for that one. But yeah,
- 37:06Speaker 1: so a big trade there, Waslin for Harmer and a
- 37:09Speaker 1: fourth round pick.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Not one more London Knights trade to go over here.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Jacob zoo goes to the Peterborough Pete's from London and
- 37:18Speaker 1: the Knights get a fourth and a six there. So
- 37:20Speaker 1: it looks like Mark Hunter's trying to get some draft picks. Maybe,
- 37:24Speaker 1: maybe looking to get, get another player. I mean, London's
- 37:27Speaker 1: always anybody.
- 37:28Speaker 2: So yeah, what's going on here. When you see these,
- 37:31Speaker 2: when you see them receiving picks like this and making
- 37:33Speaker 2: moves like how they, how they have, especially before the other,
- 37:37Speaker 2: the trades that we didn't even mention that they made previously,
- 37:40Speaker 2: what's going on here. I mean, Is there a cap
- 37:43Speaker 2: in a certain place available that I don't know of?
- 37:45Speaker 2: But no pun intended. OG, OHL, and 60 listeners know
- 37:50Speaker 2: that one. I got to have fun. If you're not
- 37:53Speaker 2: having fun, you're in the wrong business. Jacob's Zoo, it's
- 37:57Speaker 2: a great stay-at-home defenseman for a year. Like I said,
- 38:00Speaker 2: I think Peterborough goes for it this year. I think
- 38:02Speaker 2: they go for it when it's a low risk. You're
- 38:04Speaker 2: only giving up two picks. You're not selling the farm
- 38:07Speaker 2: and giving up your January 9th trade deadline like one
- 38:10Speaker 2: other team that did in the Eastern Conference. you gave
- 38:13Speaker 2: yourself a chance, right? So I feel like for Jacob Zooey,
- 38:15Speaker 2: he's a stay-at-home defenseman. He gives them every opportunity to
- 38:17Speaker 2: be competitive. And I think the Peterborough Peets have every
- 38:20Speaker 2: shot this year to go for it. And for London,
- 38:22Speaker 2: who are they getting? They're getting somebody. I don't know.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I honestly, I haven't heard one thing yet about the Knights,
- 38:27Speaker 2: but Mark Hunter's been around arenas. So, and he is
- 38:30Speaker 2: around a lot of arenas though. That's another thing, but
- 38:34Speaker 2: there's definitely going to be something gearing up and it
- 38:36Speaker 2: gives them a shot to go out and acquire a
- 38:38Speaker 2: player come January as well, because we all know that
- 38:41Speaker 2: December 1st deadline is very exciting in the league.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Mark Hunter has always got something up his sleeve.
- 38:46Speaker 3: So I expect the.
- 38:47Speaker 1: London Knights to make a move out of nowhere that
- 38:48Speaker 1: nobody's expecting and get a really good player onto that
- 38:51Speaker 1: roster for Dale Hunter. So our last headline, which isn't
- 38:54Speaker 1: really a headline, it's more so just talking about the
- 38:57Speaker 1: Guelph storm here. The OHL put this graphic out through
- 38:59Speaker 1: the Guelph storm, have the best roster. Obviously they went
- 39:01Speaker 1: out and got some, some really good high-end players, Ryan Roberg,
- 39:04Speaker 1: Ethan Zada from the Niagara ice dogs, Vlad Javecki from
- 39:07Speaker 1: the Bulldogs, Ben Hrabik from, the Barry Colts, Owen Griffin
- 39:11Speaker 1: from the Oshawa generals. So George Burnett has really put
- 39:15Speaker 1: his stamp on this team. And now with those picks,
- 39:16Speaker 1: he gets in the McNally trade. You expect even more
- 39:19Speaker 1: to come as they're loading up for a Memorial cup run,
- 39:22Speaker 1: but yeah, you can kind of just group all those
- 39:24Speaker 1: moves as to ones that the Gulf storm have made
- 39:26Speaker 1: to make themselves more competitive.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah. A lot of personality in those gentlemen. I know.
- 39:30Speaker 2: you know, Robrick. Well, you know, Zada. Well, I know
- 39:33Speaker 2: Vlad Javetsky. Well, that's going to be a lot of
- 39:35Speaker 2: personality there. And Vlad, that's for sure. I wonder where
- 39:38Speaker 2: he's going to stick candle on the concourse in Brantford.
- 39:41Speaker 2: He's always at ice level in the walkway, right behind
- 39:44Speaker 2: the net stick handling. And you would hear it was
- 39:46Speaker 2: because the gates were open. And you would just hear
- 39:48Speaker 2: him sticking out. You just hear this choppy stick. And
- 39:51Speaker 2: it was, you look over and it's Vlad Javetsky. I
- 39:53Speaker 2: wonder where he's going to do that in Guelph. Because
- 39:55Speaker 2: they renovated the arena. They probably don't want him doing
- 39:58Speaker 2: that in the concourse. So where are they going to
- 39:59Speaker 2: do it? Where's he going to do it, Vlad? What
- 40:02Speaker 2: a beauty. Vlad Javetsky's a really good person. And Guelph
- 40:06Speaker 2: added a lot of character this summer. And that's what
- 40:08Speaker 2: they need.
- 40:09Speaker 3: And Hrabik's a big get for them to get him
- 40:11Speaker 3: back as well.
- 40:12Speaker 2: He's a playoff MVP other than Sam O'Reilly. And the OHL.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Which was in effect, by the way, Sam O'Reilly. We
- 40:18Speaker 3: were both on that train in early January.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Eyes on Guelph this year. More than a cup.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yep. So we'll move into our next topic because this one,
- 40:27Speaker 1: it's a trade, but it needed its own topic because
- 40:30Speaker 1: it broke the hockey world this week. Obviously, going back
- 40:35Speaker 1: to the OHL draft, we knew that Tanner Adams wanted
- 40:37Speaker 1: to play for the Sudbury Wolves. He was drafted third
- 40:39Speaker 1: overall by the Brampton Steelheads and James Richmond. and you
- 40:42Speaker 1: knew at some point, you know, something was going to
- 40:44Speaker 1: have to give there. He didn't end up reporting to
- 40:45Speaker 1: the team. And yeah, we ended up getting this trade
- 40:49Speaker 1: earlier this week and I'm going to pull this up
- 40:51Speaker 1: here because it was just, yeah. I mean, I can't
- 40:57Speaker 1: even find it right now because I'm just thinking about
- 40:59Speaker 1: it and it's blowing my mind right now, but Tanner
- 41:01Speaker 1: Adams goes to the Sudbury wolves for 4,000 draft picks. Again,
- 41:08Speaker 1: Sudbury is a team I'm really high on this season,
- 41:10Speaker 1: you know, and I really wanted them to make a
- 41:13Speaker 1: lot of big moves and and do a lot. But
- 41:15Speaker 1: I mean, here we go. Here's here's the trade graph.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Were you guys looking on the video pages? It almost
- 41:21Speaker 1: needs two pages. But for you listening in audio, I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I can't even read it all off. It would take
- 41:26Speaker 1: me an hour here. But there's 15 draft picks from
- 41:30Speaker 1: the years 2026 to the years 2029. And there's also
- 41:34Speaker 1: a couple of compensatory picks in there. Colin, I know
- 41:38Speaker 1: you've been waiting for this. This is going to be
- 41:39Speaker 1: your moment of the show. Tanner Adams, you know, seems
- 41:42Speaker 1: like a very good young player and he goes to
- 41:44Speaker 1: the team he wanted to play for all along. But
- 41:47Speaker 1: when the Brampton Steelheads really had no leverage and he
- 41:49Speaker 1: only wanted to go to one team, how did the
- 41:52Speaker 1: Sudbury Wolves or how did the Brampton Steelheads possibly get
- 41:54Speaker 1: this type of return?
- 41:56Speaker 2: Well, I see the chat. Shout out to Reese. I mean, yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 2: here we go. Famous rant. This is one of those
- 42:04Speaker 2: trades to me that makes absolutely zero sense. Zero sense.
- 42:08Speaker 2: And I know I got these GMs on Twitter coming
- 42:11Speaker 2: after me. Oh, well, it's nice to see the outside
- 42:13Speaker 2: media talk about Sudbury, but they only do when it's
- 42:16Speaker 2: negative because they know everything. Well, you GM missed a
- 42:19Speaker 2: trade deadline one year because you slept in. Two, this
- 42:22Speaker 2: trade makes absolutely zero sense to me. Makes zero sense.
- 42:26Speaker 2: This trade to me. when Sudbury had all the leverage
- 42:30Speaker 2: in the trade looking at this you would think oh
- 42:32Speaker 2: every team must have been involved on it I don't
- 42:34Speaker 2: get this trade at all and on this flip side
- 42:36Speaker 2: too for a Sudbury Wolves player after last year they
- 42:39Speaker 2: had such a good trade deadline they had such a
- 42:42Speaker 2: good trade deadline and now all of a sudden it's
- 42:45Speaker 2: gone because what are you going to do in January
- 42:48Speaker 2: okay so I get someone on my social media telling
- 42:50Speaker 2: me well they're going to rebuild they're going to trade
- 42:52Speaker 2: they're going to get some picks back yes some they
- 42:55Speaker 2: traded 15 picks you traded 15 picks. So you're getting
- 42:58Speaker 2: rid of four players, four players, five players to get
- 43:01Speaker 2: those picks back. That's a rebuild. That is a rebuild.
- 43:04Speaker 2: You're not going to get three picks back for a
- 43:07Speaker 2: fourth line player, right? You're like, we just saw Jacob
- 43:10Speaker 2: zoo get traded for two picks, right? Like Jacob zoo
- 43:14Speaker 2: is a great player. Like, What do you think you're
- 43:17Speaker 2: going to get? You're going to trade a bubble player
- 43:20Speaker 2: who's been up and down in the geo or wherever
- 43:23Speaker 2: they play in the farm system for the Sudbury Wolves
- 43:25Speaker 2: and the affiliation. You're going to trade somebody from there,
- 43:28Speaker 2: their rights. What are you going to give up? A
- 43:30Speaker 2: 15th round pick? Well, hey, there you go. You replaced
- 43:32Speaker 2: the 15th. You gave up. Congrats. Go for it. All
- 43:35Speaker 2: the best. You know, all the best. Go get... Go
- 43:38Speaker 2: get Connor McDavid. I don't care. But that's not going
- 43:41Speaker 2: to happen. And that's what really drove me crazy. Because
- 43:44Speaker 2: these people are coming after me about it. And I
- 43:46Speaker 2: understand that. I understand that. But here's the thing. If
- 43:49Speaker 2: you're going to get picks back, okay. But if you're
- 43:52Speaker 2: a returning player, if you're the J.C. Lemieux, who remember
- 43:56Speaker 2: last year on the show with yourself, Reese, and I,
- 43:58Speaker 2: we talked about Sudbury. We gave them their flowers. We
- 44:02Speaker 2: gave the Sudbury Wolves respect because they did what they
- 44:04Speaker 2: should have did the year before and sold. It's a
- 44:07Speaker 2: hard thing to do in Sudbury. I understand that. But
- 44:11Speaker 2: you did everything, and I thought they were in great
- 44:13Speaker 2: shape to go for an Eastern Conference. When we get
- 44:15Speaker 2: to my media poll, I had to change it. They
- 44:17Speaker 2: made me change it. They made me change my media
- 44:19Speaker 2: poll because, granted, I got it done. I had the
- 44:22Speaker 2: Wolves in second in the Eastern Conference, and now they're
- 44:24Speaker 2: fifth because of this trade. And I think that the
- 44:27Speaker 2: reason why is come January at the trade deadline, you
- 44:30Speaker 2: are going to have to give up a decent player
- 44:33Speaker 2: to get five picks back. If you give up a
- 44:37Speaker 2: decent player in your core, you're not going to have
- 44:40Speaker 2: a chance to win in the league this year. You're not.
- 44:43Speaker 2: And I think for giving up 15 picks like this
- 44:46Speaker 2: in September– What does it do? What does it do?
- 44:49Speaker 1: You know, I, I was Tanner Adams, Connor McDavid. I mean,
- 44:53Speaker 1: no disrespect to him, but I know he's a great player,
- 44:55Speaker 1: but you know.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Hey, he's a good player, but Sam Dickinson went for
- 44:58Speaker 2: seven picks. And I thought that was a good trade
- 45:01Speaker 2: at the time. You know, like that was a lot.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Remember when ice dogs got seven picture Dickinson and we're
- 45:06Speaker 2: all thinking, I remember on here chatting with Reese about it.
- 45:09Speaker 2: We're like getting returned for both sides. Yeah. Dickinson was
- 45:13Speaker 2: a stud in London. but Niagara, I mean, they messed
- 45:16Speaker 2: up the picks, but in all honesty, they, they did
- 45:20Speaker 2: a good job. Like it was a good trade at
- 45:22Speaker 2: the time for them. He wasn't going to stay this trade.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Maybe Brampton had all the leverage that I guess, but
- 45:30Speaker 2: I really don't understand this trade and good luck selling
- 45:33Speaker 2: it to players in your dressing room, because that's where
- 45:36Speaker 2: I look at it, where the trade deadline to me
- 45:39Speaker 2: is one of those things. When you get these players
- 45:41Speaker 2: that come back and when you get, when you get
- 45:44Speaker 2: some of these guys who are, you know, like you're
- 45:47Speaker 2: a good team, you're in contention. What, what picture are
- 45:51Speaker 2: you going to trade now to add to that? And
- 45:53Speaker 2: I feel horrible for the players who are in their
- 45:55Speaker 2: last year of junior hockey. We're excited to come back
- 45:57Speaker 2: to Sudbury, but this trade for Sudbury is everything, everything
- 46:03Speaker 2: that they shouldn't have done. It's actually when the only spot,
- 46:06Speaker 2: the most important thing about this trade was the only
- 46:08Speaker 2: spot Tanner Adams wanted to go was Sudbury.
- 46:12Speaker 1: All right.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Yeah. We don't have any leverage. We'll give up 15 picks.
- 46:15Speaker 2: The best reel. I sent you that. I sent that
- 46:18Speaker 2: reel on social media to you guys about that one.
- 46:21Speaker 2: What are we like? I had a blast with that one.
- 46:24Speaker 2: When you see the coach. Okay. That's not bad. Oh, okay.
- 46:27Speaker 2: And it gets worse. Is he Wayne Gretzky? That was awesome.
- 46:30Speaker 2: But I know for a fact, if you're Brampton, this
- 46:33Speaker 2: sets you up for two to three seasons down the road,
- 46:36Speaker 2: not just this year. And I'm very excited for Brampton.
- 46:40Speaker 2: And I cannot believe. I cannot believe this out of Sudbury.
- 46:45Speaker 2: It's the only place he wanted to go. It's the
- 46:47Speaker 2: only place he wanted to go. And all right, we'll
- 46:50Speaker 2: give you 15. We'll give you 15 draft picks.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Maybe we need to get Rob Papineau on the show.
- 46:56Speaker 3: GM, the Sudbury wolves and get, yeah.
- 46:59Speaker 2: We'll debate that one. I man, oh man.
- 47:03Speaker 3: But on the other side though, James Richmond, GM of
- 47:05Speaker 3: the year for this move.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Oh, he's already won. He is already, he has already
- 47:09Speaker 2: won GM of the year. My vote for GM of
- 47:11Speaker 2: the year is, is already in. It's already in. Guelph
- 47:16Speaker 2: could host the Mem Cup and get an exceptional status
- 47:19Speaker 2: over Rager and Connor McDavid for a 15th round pick,
- 47:24Speaker 2: and it would still be worse than this trade. For Brampton,
- 47:27Speaker 2: this trade was unbelievable. This is the best trade for
- 47:31Speaker 2: Brampton in the history of the Steelheads, the Brampton battalions.
- 47:37Speaker 2: It's the best trade they could have had. This sets
- 47:39Speaker 2: him up for multiple years to come. And like I said,
- 47:42Speaker 2: Sudbury fans, you can get mad at me all you want.
- 47:44Speaker 2: I own that. I own that. I tried to fix
- 47:46Speaker 2: you guys last year. I thought it was going to work.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Obviously this year, you just couldn't help ourselves. And we
- 47:51Speaker 2: had to give up 15 picks for a guy that
- 47:53Speaker 2: only wanted to play in Sudbury. So make that make
- 47:56Speaker 2: sense to me. Sudbury fans who are coming after me,
- 47:58Speaker 2: make that make sense. You only want to go to
- 48:00Speaker 2: you guys. And it was 15 picks. You gave up
- 48:03Speaker 2: for them. Make that make sense. Please. And thank you.
- 48:06Speaker 2: All right. Colin leaves the chat.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Like I said on X now here's a trade as
- 48:11Speaker 1: Chris Collinsworth would say. So, uh, I would love to
- 48:15Speaker 1: hear play by play announcer, the Brampton steelhead, Zach Bodenstein
- 48:19Speaker 1: thought on this trade, but we'll have him on later
- 48:21Speaker 1: in the year.
- 48:22Speaker 3: But, uh, yeah, there's a parade, Zach.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I want to host it. I want to host a
- 48:25Speaker 2: parade party. We'll do a parade show.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 48:29Speaker 1: So, uh, yeah, just that, that needed its own segment
- 48:32Speaker 1: in and of itself for that trade. And yeah, it, uh,
- 48:34Speaker 1: it made the route, the, Made its rounds around hockey,
- 48:38Speaker 1: that's for sure. But, you know, I would really love
- 48:40Speaker 1: to know what Rob Papano's explanation on this was. And,
- 48:44Speaker 1: you know, respectfully, you know, as a guy that's been
- 48:46Speaker 1: a general manager in the OHL for a long time,
- 48:48Speaker 1: I'd love to get his thought process on how this
- 48:50Speaker 1: whole one went down. That would be a fun conversation
- 48:53Speaker 1: with him.
- 48:53Speaker 2: But.

- 49:42Speaker 5: Butt ends are hockey stick grips, specifically for the top
- 49:45Speaker 5: of the stick, designed to replace traditional cloth tape. They're
- 49:47Speaker 5: made of rubber and offer a more consistent and comfortable
- 49:50Speaker 5: grip than tape, aiming to improve performance and reduce slippage.
- 49:54Speaker 5: Butt ends are an alternative to regular stick tape that
- 49:57Speaker 5: provide enhanced grip and comfort, are durable, reusable, and consistent,
- 50:01Speaker 5: with the ability to reduce vibration.

- 50:23Speaker 5: and Tim Stutzla are a few who have proudly used.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Buttons for peak performance.
- 50:28Speaker 5: You're listening to the OHL in 60 podcast right here
- 50:31Speaker 5: on the Armchair GM Sports Network.
- 51:11Speaker 3: We'll move on here.
- 51:12Speaker 1: We got Colin's rant out of the way, which is
- 51:14Speaker 1: a staple on this show. So the season premiere episode
- 51:17Speaker 1: starting off hot already. So great stuff there. We're going
- 51:20Speaker 1: to move into our next topic and I have to
- 51:22Speaker 1: pull up the topic graphic because I forgot already a
- 51:24Speaker 1: preseason takeaways and thoughts on the length of the preseason. Colin,
- 51:28Speaker 1: let's quickly pull up the preseason standings and that is
- 51:33Speaker 1: what it is. Take that with a grain of salt.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Nobody wins an award or anything for that. But some
- 51:38Speaker 1: teams played upwards of six games. Some teams played a
- 51:41Speaker 1: little bit less we have.
- 51:42Speaker 2: The september championship brand.
- 51:45Speaker 3: We have the newfoundland regiment uh as a part of
- 51:47Speaker 3: the ontario hockey league draft lottery yeah imagine that but
- 51:52Speaker 3: uh saginaw went out there and played against uh the
- 51:55Speaker 3: q team and obviously with victoria they played against london
- 51:58Speaker 3: so got some cross chl games within there as well
- 52:01Speaker 3: but uh you know what are your thoughts i guess
- 52:05Speaker 3: and takeaways from what you saw in the preseason so far.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Um very competitive I thought it was very competitive. I
- 52:10Speaker 2: think with the Mem Cup here, everyone focuses on Guelph.
- 52:12Speaker 2: And I mentioned this earlier, where everyone's going to focus
- 52:14Speaker 2: on Guelph being the team. And rightly so. They've earned
- 52:17Speaker 2: that right as Memorial Cup hosts on the ego ranking.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Shout out to Jay McKee on that one on the
- 52:21Speaker 2: power rankings. They've earned that right to be number one
- 52:24Speaker 2: across everybody's board. Quite frankly, on paper right now, anybody
- 52:29Speaker 2: that says any team other than Guelph in first would
- 52:32Speaker 2: be lying to you right now because nobody knows. London's
- 52:34Speaker 2: a close second and Saginaw's a possible close third. but
- 52:37Speaker 2: especially in the East. If anyone says, well, this is
- 52:40Speaker 2: a clear cut in the Ontario Hockey League over Guelph,
- 52:43Speaker 2: they're lying. Like, there's no way. And right now, that's
- 52:46Speaker 2: why I say the Guelph Storm are the only team
- 52:48Speaker 2: right now that you could say coming in, okay, their
- 52:51Speaker 2: Memco post is pretty easy to say that. Maybe London,
- 52:54Speaker 2: maybe Saginaw. But other than that, it's so close and
- 52:57Speaker 2: it's so congested. To see some of these teams like
- 52:59Speaker 2: Peterborough get that opportunity, have a good training camp like
- 53:02Speaker 2: they did, it's nice to see. I want to see
- 53:05Speaker 2: what Sarnia can do. I want, I want to see
- 53:07Speaker 2: Sarnia make the playoffs so bad this year. There's no
- 53:10Speaker 2: way child consumer. You got to like, you want to
- 53:12Speaker 2: see Sarnia get in. I mean, you saw it all
- 53:14Speaker 2: those years in the ice dogs, Brandon, like they got
- 53:17Speaker 2: the hives got to be buzzing again. So I feel
- 53:19Speaker 2: like there's a lot of cities that you'll watch that
- 53:22Speaker 2: you're watching camp and you want to see how it goes.
- 53:24Speaker 2: So I'm very excited to see how it goes here.
- 53:27Speaker 2: I'm towing into regular season, but training camp with the
- 53:30Speaker 2: preseason is really good. The high competitive level. We saw
- 53:33Speaker 2: a couple of suspensions. We saw some, We saw the
- 53:37Speaker 2: Erie London game, game one, get out of hand, but
- 53:40Speaker 2: we're seeing some, we're seeing a lot of emotion in
- 53:42Speaker 2: the preseason. I think that's great. You're seeing teams desperate
- 53:44Speaker 2: to set a tone early.
- 53:47Speaker 1: On the screen there, you can see OHL preseason point leaders. Again,
- 53:50Speaker 1: no awards are going out for this either, but Cole
- 53:52Speaker 1: Zeroski led the preseason with 15 points for the Owen
- 53:56Speaker 1: Sound attack. Second was Jason Moussa for the Brantford Bulldogs
- 54:01Speaker 1: with 11 points. Logan Howery for the Sarnia Sting, as
- 54:03Speaker 1: you've mentioned there, looking to take a step with nine.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Tyler Hine, Dima Zilkin, and Ryan Hanren. So, yeah, I mean,
- 54:10Speaker 1: Cole Zyrowski, obviously a guy that, you know, is a
- 54:13Speaker 1: former first-round pick of Flint and gone into Owen Sound.
- 54:16Speaker 3: And, you know, Owen Sound's a sneaky team, right?
- 54:18Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 54:18Speaker 1: They're in the Midwest division, which is always going to
- 54:20Speaker 1: be a real tough division. But Tyler, another new ownership group,
- 54:23Speaker 1: new head coaching staff. You know, maybe this is the
- 54:25Speaker 1: year Cole Zyrowski breaks out.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely. I think that's an interesting one, right?
- 54:30Speaker 2: Cesar Ross, you get that opportunity in Owen sound. I'm
- 54:33Speaker 2: very interested to see how that goes to with the attack. Yeah.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Can't wait to have Greg Cowan on, by the way,
- 54:38Speaker 1: he's definitely going to be a, be a fun one.
- 54:40Speaker 1: And if you're not giving him a follow, one of
- 54:41Speaker 1: the best OHL follows on X all season long, just
- 54:45Speaker 1: always a fun one there. So we might as well
- 54:47Speaker 1: group it in here with the preseason power rank is
- 54:50Speaker 1: where we get to the media polls calling. You mentioned
- 54:52Speaker 1: their Guelph storm, number one, London Knights, two Saginaw spirit,
- 54:55Speaker 1: three Ottawa, 67, four in Peterborough, Pete's five, uh, Um,
- 54:59Speaker 1: only 16 teams mentioned here. The, the four, you can
- 55:02Speaker 1: pretty much, uh, you know, come to the conclusion yourself unless, uh,
- 55:05Speaker 1: you're not.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Very, I was surprised with Erie not being on there.
- 55:10Speaker 2: That was the only surprise to me. Brampton, Niagara, Oshawa, Erie.
- 55:13Speaker 2: I was surprised Erie was not on there. Wasn't ranked
- 55:16Speaker 2: in the top 16.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Hey, Sarnia is at 14. So there you go.
- 55:20Speaker 2: There we go. Hey, the Sting got to improve this year,
- 55:24Speaker 2: and I think they have every opportunity. I like their lineup.
- 55:26Speaker 2: I really do. I think they should be higher than 14.
- 55:29Speaker 1: We got to continue the effect for the Sarnia Sting
- 55:31Speaker 1: this year. We got to will them into the playoffs.
- 55:34Speaker 2: The bio picture on the social media is the Hive.
- 55:38Speaker 2: We got the Hall of Fame. We'll just put the
- 55:41Speaker 2: World Junior Wall, the 2015 Sarnia All-You-Can-Eat Hot Dog Contest.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Just a gong show. It'll be awesome.
- 55:50Speaker 1: For the sake of Lee Cunningham, they're great radio play
- 55:52Speaker 1: by play voice. I hope the sting can get in
- 55:54Speaker 1: the playoffs. Cause I love listening to Lee, uh, on
- 55:56Speaker 1: the radio side of things. So we'll end the show today,
- 56:00Speaker 1: Colin with our OHL, uh, media poll. That's put out
- 56:03Speaker 1: every single year here by the Ontario hockey league. Uh,
- 56:07Speaker 1: we're not going to go over their results. I don't
- 56:09Speaker 1: even think the results are in yet, but we're going
- 56:10Speaker 1: to give our thoughts on all the questions here. And
- 56:13Speaker 1: you can see it up on the screen. I'll go
- 56:14Speaker 1: through each one again. We're not gonna spend too much
- 56:16Speaker 1: time on it says we don't want the show to
- 56:18Speaker 1: be three hours long, but, uh, Well, Colin and I
- 56:20Speaker 1: will both give our winners for each award and just
- 56:22Speaker 1: a quick little, uh, little bit on why we chose, uh,
- 56:25Speaker 1: the players or the teams or coaches that we did. So, uh,
- 56:29Speaker 1: we'll start things off here with, uh, who will be
- 56:32Speaker 1: the league's top rookie this season, Colin.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Um, I don't have my rookie yet. So Brandon, I'm
- 56:37Speaker 2: gonna have to get you back on that one. You
- 56:39Speaker 2: go first and I will have it back. Um, I'm
- 56:41Speaker 2: still popping up my, uh, I'm still popping up my, uh,
- 56:44Speaker 2: She from the power ranking.
- 56:46Speaker 1: OK, well, again, people are going to think, wow, shocker there.
- 56:49Speaker 1: But I'm going to take Kane Cloutier, first overall pick
- 56:51Speaker 1: of the Oshawa Generals. I just think he's going to
- 56:53Speaker 1: have such a big role in that team this year.
- 56:54Speaker 1: I saw him in the preseason game against Niagara. He
- 56:56Speaker 1: looks like an OHLer already, you know, at a really
- 56:59Speaker 1: young age. You know, his dad played pro hockey as well,
- 57:02Speaker 1: Dan Cloutier. I just think that Kane's going to have
- 57:05Speaker 1: all the opportunity in the world to have a top
- 57:07Speaker 1: six role with that Oshawa team. And, you know, he's
- 57:10Speaker 1: a guy that I really look to take a big
- 57:11Speaker 1: step as a first overall pick. My dark horse is
- 57:14Speaker 1: Logan Pridham in Kingston. You know, obviously, you know, a
- 57:17Speaker 1: guy that caught a lot of people's attention just because he's,
- 57:20Speaker 1: you know, this Tate Thompson light, I guess they were
- 57:22Speaker 1: calling him going into that draft year.
- 57:24Speaker 3: But I really like Logan Pridham.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I think he's going to do well in that Kingston system.
- 57:28Speaker 3: So Kane Cloutier for me. And then Honoro mentioned Logan Pridham.
- 57:32Speaker 2: I am going to the, so I got my list up.
- 57:35Speaker 2: There's my fine for the year there. I already got
- 57:37Speaker 2: a dollar in the beer kitty or the pop kitty.
- 57:42Speaker 2: I'm going to the great, Area of hockey town in Detroit.
- 57:46Speaker 2: I'm going with the Honeybake program. Max Lappin, Niagara Ice
- 57:49Speaker 2: Dog defenseman. I think that with Lappin, huge, huge opportunity
- 57:54Speaker 2: for him in Niagara. Max Lappin, to me, is my
- 57:56Speaker 2: top rookie this year. You look at the points he
- 57:58Speaker 2: had in minor midget. I think that's going to transition
- 58:01Speaker 2: nice to the OHL, the way he plays. He's got
- 58:03Speaker 2: some size. He's 6'3. You can't teach size. He's 216
- 58:06Speaker 2: at 16 years old. I mean, that's crazy. I was
- 58:09Speaker 2: 216 at 16 years old, but it was only because
- 58:12Speaker 2: I went to Burger King. This isn't Burger King sponsored,
- 58:15Speaker 2: you know? Like, I'm excited. I'm so excited to see
- 58:18Speaker 2: Max Lappin have that opportunity. So I'm very pumped to
- 58:21Speaker 2: see him win the top rookie this year. Niagara, you're
- 58:25Speaker 2: in my good books so far. Stay in it.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Stay in it. Top four role.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Stay in it. Balls on your court. Pucks on your ice.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Captain on that Detroit Honey Bake team that was so dominant, right?
- 58:35Speaker 1: OHL Cup champion. So, yeah, Hockey Town. So maybe they
- 58:39Speaker 1: should replace the Detroit Red Wings roster this season.
- 58:41Speaker 2: They'd probably beat them. Maybe they'll trade for Larkin. Maybe
- 58:44Speaker 2: they'll trade for Dylan Larkin. That's where he's going. He's
- 58:47Speaker 2: getting called up.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Right. We're not going to bring up Dylan Larkin on
- 58:51Speaker 1: this show ever for Colin's mental health. Next, we'll move
- 58:55Speaker 1: to who will win Coach of the Year honors this season. Again,
- 58:58Speaker 1: you can always go with the Dale Hunters, the Dave Camerons,
- 59:01Speaker 1: but who's going to be your Coach of the Year?
- 59:04Speaker 2: Coach of the Year this year, I have big expectations
- 59:06Speaker 2: the Kingston Frontenac so no one other than Troy Mann
- 59:09Speaker 2: I think Troy Mann why not Troy right so Troy
- 59:14Speaker 2: Mann I'm off to Jamie Key Wagon because he's going
- 59:16Speaker 2: to get the AHL coach of the year uh award
- 59:18Speaker 2: but um Troy Mann Troy Mann OHL's.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Coach of the year honors I thought you were going
- 59:24Speaker 1: to have the same answer as me because you're really
- 59:25Speaker 1: high on this guy as I am. Ryan Ulihan, North
- 59:27Speaker 1: Bay Battalion, you know, always a stable presence back there.
- 59:30Speaker 1: And if North Bay does make a run for the
- 59:32Speaker 1: Central Division this year, I think Ryan Ulihan is going
- 59:33Speaker 1: to be a big part of that as always. So
- 59:36Speaker 1: Ryan Ulihan, North Bay Battalion for me. Troy Mann, Kingston
- 59:39Speaker 1: Frontenac for you for Coach of the Year. Who will
- 59:41Speaker 1: be the league's top draft prospect for the 2027 NHL
- 59:45Speaker 1: Entry Draft? Colin, we've had that list on there a
- 59:48Speaker 1: little bit earlier, but is there anybody you want to
- 59:49Speaker 1: point out?
- 59:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, call Isaac. Yeah, Kowalski, he's going to
- 59:55Speaker 2: have every opportunity, and he's this year's Caleb Malhotra.
- 59:58Speaker 3: I like that a lot. I'm going to go Dima Zilkin.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I think he's going to have a big year with
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: the Saginaw Spirit, you know, that extra year. You know,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: he's a guy that's been on the radar for a
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: little bit here. I think he's going to have a
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: massive year for the Saginaw Spirit with that wear and
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: that see. So, you know, if Klepov comes back, you know,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: that could be even better for him. So I'm on Zilkin.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: And Colin's on Yakko Wysik. I did an honorable mention, Ryerson, Edgar,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: and Niagara as well. I think he's going to have
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: a massive season. Who will be the league's most outstanding
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: player of the year, Colin?
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Colin Griffin. I think he's going to have a huge
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: year in Guelph. I think he's, I think him and
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Ethan's out at either Hopkins or their three, you know,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: that are going to be that spark right up front.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: I think Ryan Roberg's a good player, but I think
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: he's a catch and release guy. I think these guys
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: are going to be the energizers. And I think going
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Griffin leads that. We saw what he did in Oshawa,
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: and we saw what he did on a bad Oshawa
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: team last year, right? Like, this guy brings the energy
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: every night. And I think going Griffin, why not?
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: I like that a lot.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I'm going to go Adam Novotny from the Peterborough Peets.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I think he's going to have a big year for
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Peterborough if they're going to obviously try to compete there,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: you know, with that acquisition of Cooper Dennis, you know,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: trading away a first overall pick and Caden McGregor under
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Rob Wilson and Mike Oak. You know, they really need
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: a big year out of Adam Novotny. you know, just
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: drafted by the Vancouver Canucks as well, you know, a
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: top end draft prospect. So I think Adam Novotny, uh,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: brings a lot to that team. I think he could
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: be a, if Peterborough does make a run as a
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: top three or four team in the East, I think
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: it's going to be a lot on the shoulders of
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Adam Novotny. So he's my league's most outstanding player of
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: the year.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. I understand that Adam Novotny is going to
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: have a year for Peterborough Pete's.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Who will win the Wayne Gretzky trophy as Western conference champions. Again,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: there's some of these that we can't even really pick
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: yet because we don't even know what some of these
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: teams are going to look like, but, uh, calling on
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: september 14th who's your west champion you want to know.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Who the september 14th champions are in the west the
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: london knights i had the london knights winning the uh
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: western conference beating out guelph um in the conference final
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: um that's who i have uh winning the western conference
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: the wayne gretzky trophy the london knights.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna go guelph but uh you know i really
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: went out on a limb on that one but uh
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: you haven't heard the last of me from London. I've
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: got them in another category here coming up. So London
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Knights Collins back on the London train from his, his
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: junior days, but East champions.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: Hey, I was on Kitchener last year.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: I know you were.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Maybe this year it'll be London's turn. We'll see.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: The Midwest going for a four Pete.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. It's a dangerous, the East, the Bobby or Brandon.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: I can't give you one right now. I got like
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: six teams. I was telling you this before we went
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: on air. I have six teams. And if there's any
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: team that, And obviously eight teams make the playoffs. I'm
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: nowhere close to that. I probably couldn't even answer that
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: question in two months from now. This is a very,
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: this is very interesting. I like King. I'll say Kingston
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: because I said Troy man, and I said a lot
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: of success for Kingston, but I'd like Peterborough. I like Ottawa.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I like North Bay. I did like Sudbury. If Brantford
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: has 10 of their signings workout, if they have half
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: the signings workout, they're going to have a good team.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: You're seeing them getting draft picks. So are they out
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: of it? I don't think so. you know, like what's
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: buried wide open. Yeah. I can't decide. See, I got
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: like seven teams right there that I just said. So I,
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: and I named my rookie and I named my rookie
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: of the year from a team who I didn't even
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: have on that list. So I, I can't do it
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Um, that's fine.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Uh, I guess I have winning the J Ross.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Well, I had, I had Sudbury until they made the
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Tanner Adams trade, uh, which I still like Sudbury's roster, but,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I just don't know how much better it can get now.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I'm going to go North Bay. Ryan Ulihan has done
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: a really good job. Adam Dennis is going to make
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: some big moves. So I'm going to go North Bay
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: battalion for the East. I think, you know, I was
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: really high on Sudbury and I, this is the, this,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: I was ready to be the Sudbury wolves hype guy
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: this year. And I just don't know where, where they
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: stand right now.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: So I was ready. I was ready. And unfortunately it's gone.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Now I flew off like the wolf over the goal
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: line when they score a goal.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: We were waiting for Sudbury Sarnia this year.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Maybe they'll trade the Wolf for three picks.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Hey, that's a good addition.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: I'd trade three picks for that.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know a team that could use that. We'll
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: move on to the J-Ross. So you had London. So
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I'm guessing you're going to say London Knights, OHL champions?
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: Yep. London, Guelph, Memcup. What a representative.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Two from the Midwest. Shocker there.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Oh, the attendance. The attendance. An hour up the road.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Like, whoo!
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Business, baby. Business, man.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Always thinking about the ticket sales. I'm going to go
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Guelph as well because I picked them as the West champions.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: And in the East, I still don't know what the
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: heck is going on. So I'll go out on a
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: real limb here and say the Guelph Storm, J-Ross, and
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: then obviously going through the front door to the Memorial
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Cup that they're going to host anyway. So with that, Midwest,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: I've got Guelph. So you obviously have London in that
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: division because you picked them as West champions?
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: Yep. And then we'll West division. I've got the Saginaw.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: You know what? Nevermind. The West division. I have Saginaw,
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: but the Midwest division, I actually have Guelph winning. I
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: have Guelph first, London second, Owen sound third, Kitchener fourth,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Uri fifth.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: Okay. So you have Guelph winning the Midwest.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. That'll be something. Then losing the conference final.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: I got to have fun with it.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: So you have London not winning the Midwest, but beating
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Guelph in the conference final.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Okay. Let's do it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: And yeah, I think we're both on, we're both on,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: we're both on sagging on the West East.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I've got Ottawa.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: The East. I have Kingston.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Yep. That's why I'm Kingston.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Yep. Yep.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: And the central, I, I had Sudbury, but I guess
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: I got to go North Bay now.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I have Sudbury fifth in the division. Um, no, no,
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: I don't. I have North Bay. I have North Bay
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: first in the division. Sudbury second. Um, I was just too, uh,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: It's dramatic.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: You're just too, too upset with that trade, but most
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: surprising team, Colin.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Sorry. I need a Brantford. I'll say that. I think
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Sarnia with their lineup. And I think Brantford obviously being
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: close to the team, maybe and being familiar with them already.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: I mean, I think I could have a different answer
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: to this a month from now, but obviously you got
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: to give that answer right now. And I think watching
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: them play, I think a lot, you see Jason Moose,
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: some of these guys, they added, I think are the
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: real deal. And I think it's going to change a
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: lot of, turn a lot of heads and, in the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Ontario Hockey League a month from now. I think they'll
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: have a different opinion on the Bulldogs. That's just my thoughts.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: I'm going to go London Knights. I think they're going
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: to be a surprising team.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: I think some people are down on them a little bit,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: but like you, I don't expect Dale and Mark to
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: be happy with where they were last season after being
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: in the OHL finals the last three years before that.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: So for me, in a good way, the most surprising.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Team, London Knights.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Scoring leader.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Again, there's a big asterisk here because we don't know
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: what players are, are not coming back. Colin, I think
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Nikita Klepov is on our list for both of us here.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: If he is able to come back.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: He got the most outstanding too.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: But if he's not back with the Saginaw spirit, who
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: do you got?
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Owen Griffin. My most outstanding player goes hand in hand
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: with the, with the league goal scorer. Usually, usually you're
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: a really good contender. If you lead the league in
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: goal scoring, you look at back the last couple of seasons, right? Klepov,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: before that when you see well O'Reilly but when you
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: see some of these guys who have come in like
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Klepoff in contention last season when you see the year
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: before with Misa like I'm I gotta go Owen Griffin here.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I'm going from that team but again Corey Stillman at
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: 101 point year in 1990-91 as the head coach now
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: of the Gulf Storm when he was with Windsor I
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: think Ryan Robrick I really think Ryan Robrick this is
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the year that he could break out to have a
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: 100 point year we always knew it was in his
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: grasp in Niagara, but just circumstances there, obviously, with the
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: team not being up to what it should be, you know,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: got injured last season, high draft picks, high second rounder
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: of the Chicago Blackhawks. I got Ryan Roberg winning the
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: scoring title if Nikita Klepov isn't back. I just think
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: it's going to be a massive year if he can
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: stay healthy for Ryan Roberg. And we've always known, you know,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: that he's a guy that can put up a massive
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: amount of points. So I've got Novotny as my most
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: outstanding player, but I think If Klepov doesn't come back,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Ryan Rober's going to lead the league in points.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: I know the OHL socials are going to eat me
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: up for that one.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you're going to get that one for sure.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Hey, I'll take it.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Hey, it's your respectable pick, Brandon. It's your respectable pick.
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I'll take it right on the chin, guys. Bring it on.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: I can take it.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Even though, you know, I am a Ryan Rober fan, but,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: you know, I really do as an objective member of
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: the media here in the Ontario Hockey League. I just
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: think we've been waiting for this from Ryan Rober. He's
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: got that extra year. He's in his fourth year now.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Cause he had that late birthday. He was drafted late.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I think this is a big year for robrick in
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: his fourth ohl season i will say i think pierce
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: buoy and brooks ragowski are going to have massive years
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: as well.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Oh for sure for sure those are two big ones
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: Best defenseman of the year.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Um want me to go first yeah you can levi
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: harper saginaw spirit.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: That'd be Henry Bristevich, London Knights for me.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: I like that one too.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: He's going to be their goal scorer. He's going to
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: be their guy on the back end that runs that
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: power play. London's always respectable back there. We saw it
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: with Bumper Bonk. He's going to have the cannon up
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: top on the point. And I think that you see
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: it all the time. If London's going to be good,
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: they're going to have a strong defenseman. Why not him? Yeah.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: And it's usually goes to the guy with the most
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: points as well.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Unfortunately, that's kind of what this award has become, even
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: at the National Hockey League level. It's mostly a points award.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: You know, the defensive defensemen don't get maybe as much love.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: And okay.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Sean Atchison was a, was a two way defender and
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: he won it last year.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: But you got to be able to put up the
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: points as well to be in consideration for this award.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: So I definitely see why you're going there with Brustavich
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: and then a goalie of the year. Colin, I think
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: this one is a crapshoot because you could talk about
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: what goaltender thinks would be most valuable to his team,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: which goaltender is going to have the most wins, but
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: I'm sure you maybe have a couple of guys as
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: a goaltender yourself.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Ben Hrabik is my goaltender of the year, building
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: off his postseason last year. The only thing that's interesting
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: with Ben Hrabik winning goaltender of the year, he's probably
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: going to face the least amount of shots throughout the
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: season because Guelph's going to be really good. So that's
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: interesting to me. I could regret that one. But his
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: goals against and save percentage are going to look really good,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: but he's also going to face the least amount of shots.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: So throughout the year, when we talk about the goaltenders,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: you're going to have to look on the shots against
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: when you look at Ben Hrabik's stats because he's going
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: to face a lot less amount of shots as he
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: did last season with the Barry Colts in the postseason.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: the one he'll have this year with Guelph.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: And it's interesting because the reigning winner of this award,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Ryder Federoff, has gone to the NCAA, right?
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: It's unfortunate, but he had a great one season in
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: the Ontario Hockey League goaltender of the year with the
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Ottawa 67s and gets himself selected in the NHL draft
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: as well. I'm going with volume here. I have Hurevic
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: in my top three, Colin, but I'm also going on guys.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: I think they're just going to get peppered with shots,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: and I think they're going to have to be really
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: good for their team.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: I look for the mid-teens.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: To A, to remain competitive, and B, you know, be
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: their most valuable players. I think David Igorov, a guy
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: that you're familiar with in Brantford, is going to be,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: you know, a guy that's going to be a rock
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: back there for the Eriotters because he's going to face
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: at least 45 shots a game. And Vladislav Yermolenko in Niagara,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I think, is going to have to have a massive
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: season if Niagara is going to want to be a
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: team in the top six in the Eastern Conference, you know,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: as a really young roster. I think Igorov and Yermolenko
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: might face the most shots in the Ontario Hockey League
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: this year, and I think they could both be you know,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: guys that, you know, could elevate and be most valuable
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: players for their teams on the bat and in the crease.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: A hundred percent. No, absolutely. I mean, they're going to
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: face a lot of shots, but they'll also probably give
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: up more goals when it comes to that too, which
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: is going to be interesting. I think Shrugan too, and
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Saginaw is an interesting one too. That's one too. That's
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: interesting to me. And with Jaden Nelson in Ottawa, you know,
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: like tough shoes to fill it right or fed her off.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: It's cool to see Nelson get his first opportunity to
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: be the guy, you know, like, it doesn't happen too often.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Like in Ottawa, the last couple of seasons, they've always
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: had that to that tandem or someone come in and
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: light it up like Federoff did last year. So I'm
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: very interested in what Jaden Nelson can do as well
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: in Ottawa. Yeah.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: I know this wasn't a, wasn't one calling, but I'm
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: going to put it out there anyway, playoff MVP. I'm
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: going to say Ethan Zada from the Guelph storm. I
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: think that, you know, the kind of the role that
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Sam O'Reilly played last season, I think Ethan Zada is
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: going to play that same type of center role coming
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: back from the Tampa Bay lightning training camp. I think
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: he's going to have a massive season. I think if
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: Guelph goes all the way, Ethan Zott is going to
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: be a big part of it.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Perfect. I mean, I respect that as well. Like you said,
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: if I'm going to do that, I'm going to just
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: have to say either Jackson Cover, since I had the
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: London Knights winning, Jackson Cover.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: One of the most exciting players to watch, that's for sure.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Guy that only started playing hockey a few years ago, right?
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: Crazy story. It'd be cool to have him on the
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: pod and discuss his career. He's went through so much
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: already in his OHL career.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: So there's the OHL media poll. And that wraps it up. Colin,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: great first show here on our season premiere back, uh,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: kicking off with a bang. We got a call in
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: a rant. We had some hot takes. We got some
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: foreshadowing for stuff we're going to do later in the year, but, uh,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: this was great just to be able to get back
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: into the swing of things. Appreciate those listening and, uh,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: you know, look forward to doing this every single week.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: It's going to be a fun year in the OHL.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely. I think it's going to be a
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: fun year. It's definitely, it's definitely going to be different.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: A lot of things get used to, obviously, um, with
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Reese getting the opportunity in Niagara, but I'm sure we'll
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: make the most of it. And it's going to be
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: a blast. I can't wait. It's going to be a
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: fun year in the OHL and the best league in hockey.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: And want to give a quick shout out to our
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: OHL content team this year. I'm doing a lot of
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: good stuff on the writing side. I'm sure gmsports.com, Christina, Elliot, Joel,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: doing some great stuff. We got a lot of great
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: content up already early in the season. So if you
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: guys want to go check that out, we've got a
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: lot of good OHL stories for draft eligible players, guys
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: that are prospects of NHL teams. We've got a lot of,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: just a preseason sort of previews, things like that. A
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: lot of great stuff. Colin wanted to give a shout
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: out to our great, our great content team with Christina
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Elliott and Joel editing on the, on the, the written side.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: So if you guys are interested in that sort of thing,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: if you want to consume some content on the writing side, armchairgmsports.com
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: for all of our great articles there.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Absolutely. They're killing it right now. It's, it's been a
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: blast this summer. They've moved in and they've done a
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: great job.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: So that's going to wrap it up for today's season
