- 1:26Just ask the podcast where we create a safe space for influencers to decompress,
- 1:33have fun and guess what just as I am super excited today because y'all know
- 1:38that list I always talk about. It's somebody here from the list. They
- 1:45help from the list, okay, and they are from the best side,
- 1:48Okay, the west side, all right, west side. But before I
- 1:51introduce the woman, a guy does al ray? Hey, deesil ray does
- 1:56ray? Does a ray? Does a ray? Does a ray? Does
- 1:57a ray? She on the mic, but not on a camera. If
- 2:00somebody wants to invest another camera into this platform, please do, because I
- 2:05know y'all be sick of it. Sick of it. Just y'all looking at
- 2:08me. Hear you, y'all don't say in the comments, but I hear
- 2:13you. I hear you, y'all. The woman that we have here,
- 2:17the guests that we have here today, if if drip was for sale,
- 2:24she would sell it, Okay, if creativity was on a platter, she
- 2:30would have it on the silver one. Because babe, listen, I don't
- 2:34think that there's anything that she touches that doesn't look good, that she exposes
- 2:39that don't look good. Baby out here outsiding with her creativity, Okay,
- 2:46I have none other than Birmingham's finest West side of Birmingham's finalist, the Amber
- 2:53Jones. Y'all give it up. My girl a creative e, big planner
- 3:00design. I don't know, and I'm still learning that space. But now
- 3:05I most of y'all know how for being the cake lady. The cake lady.
- 3:09But you bake them cakes, I do bake them, stack them,
- 3:13doing something everything, stack them. I don't understand how you do that.
- 3:16But we're gonna, we're gonna get into Let me not go too fast because
- 3:19sometimes I take the people too fast. I'm so excited. I'm excited too.
- 3:23It's a new avenue for me. So right, they're writing skills because
- 3:30you write on Facebook. If they read, if they read, and I'm
- 3:35very poetic, poetic and the justice okay, like I love it. Like
- 3:38you had a whole nineties thing and everybody was looking like poetic, right right?
- 3:44Not his thing? Birthday party? Was that your thirtieth? Yeah,
- 3:46my thirtieth? Oh my goodness, what made you want to hell? Well,
- 3:51in your backyard? In my backyard invited people, You invited the people.
- 3:54I'm a thing person. Everything has to be coordinated, everything has to
- 3:58be you know, just decoratives. So that's just it's just something that came
- 4:01to mind today, like, well, not the day, but the year,
- 4:04Like I want to do a night this cookout, and it came.
- 4:06It turned out very good. It was beautiful. I wish I can and
- 4:11my husband even dressed up. Listen, Shout out to your husband, because
- 4:14y'all thick and thin, twin, where have you been? Like? That's
- 4:18that's y'all. Nobody loves me like you. Like if it was an example,
- 4:24y'all would be it because y'all been riding for the longest. Y'all have
- 4:28been rased thirteen going on fourteen years together married. It would be eight years
- 4:33this year. So wow, y'all got three kids, three beautiful kids.
- 4:38They all look alike just like my baby daddy. You can't you ain't the
- 4:43game, but he came. No, no, that's just my daddy.
- 4:46You know that yours because you had them right right Listen, it'd be like
- 4:53that sometimes sometimes they had a strong jeans. I wouldn't know it yet because
- 4:56I don't have none. I'm a dog mom, but yeah, not yet.
- 4:59You know we're gonna we're gonna wait patience you already know. And they
- 5:06keep me a chick, right okay, because y'all got both of y'all got
- 5:10three kids, both of y'all. Anyway, I'm talking to her like she's
- 5:13my friend, because y'all we are listen, childhood, childhood, Brown Elementary,
- 5:18first place I met him. I had a crush on Matthew Coveting during
- 5:23that time. You know what I'm saying. I'm saying it on the cap
- 5:28of the day. Him a steel fat man. He was so nice.
- 5:34He was so nice. But you vibe it's always been chilled, always been
- 5:41the basketball player. I remember when we have breaks, she would always want
- 5:45to go to the court. And so it was interesting to me to see
- 5:49you transition from the basketball player. Because first, let me let me acknowledge
- 5:55this Fairfield High School. Wasn't it the first woman the very history in history
- 6:01twenty ten championship of basketball. I don't know the division so five A right,
- 6:09they won the championship and I was them. Oh baby, I was
- 6:12there because I was playing with somebody in my gummy right. Yeah, listen,
- 6:16that game was so good. That game was so good. So this
- 6:19like this girl really like when I say loving basketball, if that's the her
- 6:27husband, like the coach, like loving basketball, like reenact me seriously,
- 6:32Like so it was so interesting to see you transition from the hoop girl,
- 6:39who you still are right to the cake lady. So can we can we
- 6:44talk about that transition, what they looked like, How did you even get
- 6:47into Bacon. Well, to be honest, it's an art. So I
- 6:54can't say I have I have been an artist all my life. That's something
- 6:58that's some poetic justice stuff. That's some erica bydu Store. I'm an artist
- 7:02and and I'm sensitive about my but no, seriously, I have. I
- 7:08have been an artist all my life. You know. I always been a
- 7:11sketch artist, always drawing, always writing poems. So basically cakes or just
- 7:16just that avenue of art. I went to school for art, which is
- 7:21that's a long story, but you know we got time. Okay, Well,
- 7:25I'm gonna get into it. You know, she was trying to be
- 7:28modest. She was like, that's a long story. We try to get
- 7:30to know you, but long story short. Of course, I played basketball
- 7:34a lot of my life. I went to college, went to Shelter State,
- 7:38won the championship there, went to nationals. We ranked six in the
- 7:42nation for that. After Sheltering, I went to AUM, and AUM I
- 7:46transferred with the False Dream you know a lot of girls these days playing basketball
- 7:50and they just feel like basketball gonna get them everywhere. Yeah, And when
- 7:55I got to AUM, it was my stopping point. You know. The
- 7:57coach sold me a false dream, told me, when we got your curriculum
- 8:01up here, you know you're gonna be doing I was supposed to be doing
- 8:03architect And I can't really blame it all on him, but just you know,
- 8:07being blindsided by a lot of things. I was supposed to be in
- 8:09the architect field, which I wasn't. So I was clearying around a sketch
- 8:13book every day and artists back full of oil paint and full of paint bridges,
- 8:20something that I wasn't even supposed to be into. Every day I'm drawing,
- 8:24even though I liked the draw but it was a hobby. It's not
- 8:26something I wanted the major in. Yeah, And so I kind of figured
- 8:30it out once I got to that December, the ending of the semester,
- 8:33like this not for me, Like what am I doing? Like I like
- 8:35the draw but I don't want nobody to make me draw. So that kind
- 8:41of is how it's narrated rated as me being an artist and just feeling that
- 8:45being an artist, you know, someone to push you to have some type
- 8:48of a gimmick of saying, hey, this is what you're supposed to do,
- 8:52and that's not what I was supposed to be doing. So long story
- 8:54short, I wind up pregnant, had my first child. Still, I
- 9:00went to U a B. Left a au N. Went to U a
- 9:01B. Still was doing art, Stopped doing art as far as the major,
- 9:09and started majoring in engineering. I was supposed to do silver engineering,
- 9:11which is still dealing with architects, right, and still dealing with design and
- 9:16buildings, you know, things of that nature. Stopped doing that, got
- 9:18tired, got printed again. Maybe you was having them baby, having them
- 9:22back to back. Shout out to my man, But baby clubs, you
- 9:26love your bad because that's the result, right being right what were being proven
- 9:31before we were supposed to But I wind up getting married and so But as
- 9:37I was saying, I went to U a B. Silver engineering was my
- 9:41first major. There, got printant again, and then I went to my
- 9:46advisor and we got on a fast paced graduation track where I just you know,
- 9:50just wanted to graduate. So I wound up getting a degree in just
- 9:54a regular degree general studies and my minder was in uh shoot, what was
- 10:01it in? Forget that part. But anyways, like that part, why
- 10:07did you why did you just say, Okay, I'm gonna do the general
- 10:11general creatus Well, and at this time I was in school for about seven
- 10:16years, no, six years, so you know, having a child then
- 10:20printed again walking around campus, y'all know how you big ua bz. Yeah,
- 10:24walking around campus printant just trying to, you know, have that goal
- 10:28set of saying I'm gonna graduate, I'm gonna graduat and it was hard.
- 10:31It was very hard. You know. Then I was working at foot locker,
- 10:33not making any money, you know, trying to have children, you
- 10:37know, maintain a lifestyle, and it just wasn't working. So I was
- 10:39like, I just want to graduate. I want to breathe, and I
- 10:41couldn't breathe, you know, everything was just on top of me. So
- 10:46that happened. So during the time before graduation actually was the year two thousand,
- 10:50I want to say six seventeen sixteen. It was sixteen because this was
- 10:56before a death happened. I wound up doing some strawberries, just making some
- 11:01desserts at home, and I wound up doing some strawberries and they was a
- 11:07total hit, and I had a friend do some taste tasting and after that
- 11:11we was like, let me, let me sell some of these. So,
- 11:13to be honest, it started off with a strawberry If y'all could believe
- 11:18that I never baked the day in my life. I started off doing treats,
- 11:22doing strawberry shortcakes. Well we call them strawberry crunchberries. I started off
- 11:26doing those, and after that, I started off just doing candy apples,
- 11:31you know, prep sels, all those baby shower treats, started off doing
- 11:35the wait, hold up all those baby shower cause they good at the baby
- 11:39showers. I love baby shower chicken salad. If you don't have chicken sal
- 11:43pasta salad, all that, So do you cook that too? I do,
- 11:46Okay, we'll talk about that. Well, I wind up doing those,
- 11:50and someone requested me to do a cake, a tweet, a birder
- 11:54cake. And this is someone I went to school with, so of course
- 11:56we had kind of a trust with relationship, so she just wanted me to
- 12:01do a cake. And I was like, I've never done the cake before,
- 12:03but I could try, So I tried in the treaty bird cake.
- 12:07Now that I'm looking I'm you know, kind of skilled right now, I'm
- 12:11looking at it. I'm like, oh, that was an ugly cake,
- 12:13but I tried my cake. You put your best before and after that.
- 12:18That's how it just eventually evolved. And you know, the Lord to put
- 12:22you through so many avenues in life and just to you know, correspond with
- 12:26what I went through, and you know, with art not being something for
- 12:30me and then me being able to paint on a cake all of a sudden.
- 12:33I'm like, you know, you have to pay attention to those lessons
- 12:37in those seasons of life. So that's how it all started. I'm so
- 12:41glad that you brought that up, because, like I said, if somebody
- 12:46would have told me in twenty ten that you was gonna be the cake lady,
- 12:52I would have laughed at them. I would have definitely laughed because you
- 12:56are very much so I won't even say out of your element, but God
- 13:01literally has brought you into a space where you even had to learn something about
- 13:09you, Like it's just so beautiful, How it's so beautiful. How God
- 13:13would make you think that you're about to do something, or he allow you
- 13:16to just go down a road just so you can have the tools in your
- 13:20toolbox so you can use it for what you actually gonna be doing. Exactly
- 13:24what happened. That's exactly what girl, you're preaching. Girl, I told
- 13:28you when I spoke a little tall earlier because definitely, like I would have
- 13:37never thought, first of all, to look back as an adult and say
- 13:41what do I want to be when I grow up? Basketball? I was
- 13:46all about basketball. I could have sworn I was going to the w n
- 13:48B A. I mean, you know that's an unrealistic thought, but that's
- 13:54what I thought I was doing. Let's talk about that, because I really
- 13:58when I when I bring up his basketball thing, y'all, like when I
- 14:01tell you I'm not over exaggerating when it's the loving basketball thing. And it's
- 14:05not just because of her husband. It's really because when I met her,
- 14:09like that's all this girl talked about. This woman. God, I'm saying,
- 14:11girl, because this is like a friendly conversation, but this is all
- 14:16AMBER used to like literally breathe, and to see you on the outside looking
- 14:22in, it looks like I'm just gonna tell you that you just obeyed God
- 14:28and it was I won't say it was effortlessly because I know your struggle has
- 14:31been a building process, but you were willing to let that go to be
- 14:37who you needed to be. And then it's beautiful. I'm go go kind
- 14:43of fast forward the story your daughter circle of life. Oh God, I
- 14:50could cry right now. I could cry right now because I know that was
- 14:52such a love like you, that was your first love. I know you
- 14:58love babe, but itspalled Like seriously, seriously, I cried. I have
- 15:05Like I'm not a crier, Like it takes a lot for me to cry,
- 15:07like as you said, like I'm hard, very hard on the outside.
- 15:09And when I made the decision to stop basketball, like I cried like
- 15:13it was heartbreaking, it was. It tore me up. And then that
- 15:18month after I left and found out I had a child, like it was
- 15:20a whole different path of life, Like what am I to become a mama
- 15:24right now? Like these days these kids think of having baby. I'm not
- 15:28gonna say these kids because I'm still young, but I'm a mom now,
- 15:33so I'm gonna say these kids. Say these kids think having babies at an
- 15:37early age is the lifestyle, and you're still a child. You're still a
- 15:41child at twenty twenty one, you're still in your parents' house. You're still
- 15:45trying to figure out what you're gonna do after college, I mean after high
- 15:48school, what you're gonna be when you get to college. Like, now
- 15:52that I've had my kids, they're out the way. I can speak on
- 15:56it and say I would have waited before I had kids. But no,
- 16:00God, really he said, all right, I'm finna put you right here
- 16:04in life and see how you go. I'm gonna see how you obey.
- 16:07And no, I didn't obey all the time. And it was a hard,
- 16:11rocky road, you know, especially with just saying what is the cake?
- 16:17Like how I I supposed to bake a cake? I never baked the
- 16:18cake orday in my life, Like I don't know a recipe my mom,
- 16:22of course she did pound cakes. Red devocates those specialty cakes. But as
- 16:26far as like decorating cakes, you know, the effort it takes to put
- 16:30into it, you know, the struggle it takes to put into it to
- 16:33fulfill an order and a customer just like yes, I love it, or
- 16:37a customer like no, I don't like it. You know something is awful
- 16:41about it, Like who am I to do this? Like people think it's
- 16:44just a minor thing. Just to bake a cake and decorate. That's a
- 16:47task I took first of all. First of all, we hired the woman
- 16:51a god for my mama birthday party. And the cake was good. Okay,
- 16:55was nothing left behind. Okay, the cake was good. It was
- 17:00as simple as we want it to be because she can do something very simple,
- 17:03and she could do something very extravagant, and some of the stuff like
- 17:07making the dollars in the cake the patients to have for that. I no,
- 17:11I don't. I got ADHD. I really think I'm self diagnosed.
- 17:15I got ADHD. I'll be the cake being burned up. Okay, So
- 17:21you talked about people think it's easy. Let's talk about the process because some
- 17:26let's because I always hear people say, well, it's dispensable, man,
- 17:32I can go to publics. Well, go to publics, then go to
- 17:34Sam's do what you gotta do for you. Okay, y'all get on my
- 17:38nerves. Let's talk. Let's talk about it. Let's get rid of I'm
- 17:42saying what you can't say. So we're gonna get it off the chests.
- 17:45All right. So let's explain what's the process, because one we say that
- 17:49you didn't originally think that you were gonna do this. Your mama made poundcakes
- 17:52and all that stuff like that, but that's the cake that's you know,
- 17:56you can buy pound cake and all this stuff like that, maybe not your
- 17:59mama pan cake from put but the same thing. But your cakes are very
- 18:03specific, right, and so from the taste to the look. Can we
- 18:07go through that process because you don't just look good because you got cakes out
- 18:11there. They look good, but they trash right, and I ain't had
- 18:15them. They stilled, they'dn't been in a freezer for three or four days.
- 18:18And they want you, they want you to eat it, and they
- 18:21want you to spend one hundred and eighty five dollars. Why did I pay
- 18:23that money? But that's obviously I had experience like that. But we're gonna
- 18:27stay on your experience because yours good. Well, I can say this is
- 18:33what I always tell people. I'm a professional, but I'm not a professional.
- 18:37So I'm by saying that I know my work, I know what I
- 18:41can do, and I know what I can explain, So I'm gonna explain
- 18:44it as best as I can. However, if it's another cake artist watching
- 18:48this, and don't try it on my line. Please, don't try it
- 18:49on my don't keep you coming to yourself. But no, seriously, I'm
- 18:53a I follow instructions. Basically, I don't what I don't have like a
- 19:00specific risk. But of course I add my special ingredients, but I don't
- 19:03have a specific recips to say, well, this is how you got to
- 19:06do this in order to get this desired taste. That's not me. I
- 19:10know. With red velve cake, of course you're gonna add a little vinegar
- 19:12and buttermilk to get that, you know, grandma taste. You know,
- 19:15with chocolate you're gonna chocolate cake. You may some people may say add sugar.
- 19:21I add brown sugar, you know. So it's it's just different methods.
- 19:23Whatever works for you works for you. But that's what works for me.
- 19:26So as far as the price process, it's a it's a never ending
- 19:32game with price. Sometimes they'll go up, sometime they'll go down. You
- 19:34know, it's just life. That's with life. That's with anything, you
- 19:37know, with eggs with milk and butter. People saying that's too much for
- 19:41a cake with eggs six dollars and this is the problem, this is the
- 19:48issue. You book a cake with me, they may think you're the only
- 19:52person booking the cake with me. So why do I have to pay for
- 19:56everybody else's eggs and butter and sugar that's going to to the cake. Well,
- 20:00of course I'm not just gonna make one cake for that week. You
- 20:03know, I'm gonna make a you know, standard setting amount of cakes,
- 20:06so you know I can store, you know, and then cakes are to
- 20:08be frozen, you know, But you're not gonna give nobody a frozen cake.
- 20:14So I just want to display you said somebody you know about being three
- 20:17to four days. Oh, of course you gonna baker cake and cakes are
- 20:21bread. If you take bread out the fridge grow you can't eat it immediately.
- 20:23Of course it's gonna be hard. You gotta let it get to room
- 20:26to I have had this conversation so many times with especially in the beginning of
- 20:32my cake bacon days, you know, people saying I'm just gonna be real.
- 20:36Sometimes say it was dry, Well what was dry? By to tell
- 20:40me you know what was dry? I can't really explain. It was just
- 20:41dry. Well, it didn't taste like a bakery cake. Well, bakries
- 20:45baked with commercial products. I was just about to say that they baked with
- 20:51powdered eggs. You know, you a home based baker can use more of
- 20:55a you know, standard eggs, of standard flour, standard milk. Commercial
- 21:00bakers can't do that. They can you know, use uh shell eggs.
- 21:04They have to use bag eggs. They can't use there's such thing as a
- 21:08bagged egg powdered eggs. When you if you go to ihop and ask for
- 21:15they say you want to scramble or powder? Yeah, amber, so not
- 21:22scrambled, but shelled or powder. So you could you have the choice of
- 21:25eating a powdered egg or you have the choice of inning you know, a
- 21:27shell egg. See, but this is this is where people fail to realize,
- 21:34like with food, especially with process who every day you're eating like people
- 21:40like you don't wear gloves or you don't do this. You don't know what
- 21:42restaurants are doing. It's so many just behind the scene things that you don't
- 21:48know what restaurants are doing. Like PIECEA they don't wear gloves, and piece
- 21:52of Making they don't they don't wear gloves at all, and gloves are not
- 21:56always sanitized. You know, you got micro holes and gloves you sweat and
- 22:02gloves something. So I mean, it's it's a lot that goes with cake,
- 22:06bacon. It's a lot that I can speak on. But you know,
- 22:08I can't speak on because, like I said, I'm a home based
- 22:11baker. I can't speak on the commercial property and what they can do versus
- 22:15what I can do. I know what I could do in my house.
- 22:18You know, I'm just selling your cake because you know that's what I do.
- 22:21But I can't speak on with commercial you know, with publics or Walmart
- 22:25or you know a bakery could do. So I'm just speaking on home based
- 22:29bakers. A lot of people look down on home based bakers just because they
- 22:32are home based, and you know a lot of people don't keep up their
- 22:36homes. I can't. I can't be specific on those things. But you
- 22:40you have to be careful with what you buy and who you do. But
- 22:44we're gonna talk about you because you you clean very well, clean, clean,
- 22:51kids, clean, clean, KND Alert clean alerts, your kids clean,
- 23:00your husband clean, and them cakes they be clean. You said something
- 23:07that is so so powerful. You mentioned not being a professional. I just
- 23:22do what I do. And I think that that's a powerful statement because a
- 23:27lot of people, a lot of creatives specifically, struggle with imposter syndrome.
- 23:34Have you ever experienced that? And what are your your tactics to make sure
- 23:40you overcome that so you can continue to be a baker. I don't care
- 23:44about the home the commercial stuff. I care the fact that you bake cakes.
- 23:48That's all I can see is that you bake cakes? Right? How
- 23:51do you overcome become those thoughts when you have them? I can honestly say
- 23:55I have never wanted to copy anyone or never wanted to, you know,
- 23:59say I want my stuff to look like theirs. What I can say I
- 24:03have struggled with why am I at the level that I'm at? Or why
- 24:08why can't I, you know, adjust what I'm doing to get those certain
- 24:12clients. I can say that, But what I can also say is I
- 24:17overcame that because as a self employed person, as a you know, creator,
- 24:22you have doubts. You struggle very every day, every day. It's
- 24:27very seasonal as well. Amber, I can't let you go past that.
- 24:33Love. Oh, I almost felt my son. Don't come on, Amber,
- 24:37listen, you said you question why you That is so grill So you
- 24:49say you don't struggle with that anymore. But you gotta take us to that
- 24:52process, because I'm gonna be real with you. I'm in there, like
- 24:56right now, like whoa wait, hold up God? Really like this don't
- 25:03even make sense? How why are you using this this? I thought it
- 25:06was gonna be a hobby. I didn't really think, why am I even
- 25:08doing this? This don't even make sense, Like I didn't go to school
- 25:11for this necessarily that part. I didn't go to school for this. I
- 25:17did go to school for this. I'm not the professional. I'm not this
- 25:19something that that I'm like, Okay, so how did what do you do?
- 25:22What have you done to to to keep yourself away from those thoughts.
- 25:27I'm not gonna say I don't know. I'll be like good one moment and
- 25:33then it's like sneak up on me the next moment. It's seasonal. It's
- 25:36very seasonal. What I can say I do I have started to do was
- 25:40narrow down my creation like my mainstream because as you know, and as you
- 25:48introduced me, I am a cape designer. I do do event decorating as
- 25:53well. I did treats. I sold on the side of the road,
- 25:59I did pop up, I did all those things. But how can I
- 26:03become express myself in all of those things if I'm not just mainstreaming one thing?
- 26:10Like you get what I'm saying, Like, if I want to do
- 26:14cakes, I need to just do cakes. I can't be a cake maker,
- 26:15treat maker, event playing, all those things. Now. I have
- 26:18a sister company which is my event decorator. But I had to start saying
- 26:23cakes is what I want to do. That's what I want to mainstream.
- 26:26So being okay with it, being okay with it because if somebody come up
- 26:29to me and say, hey, I want you to decorate, I'm not
- 26:33gonna turn it down, but I'm gonna offer my cakes. I was was
- 26:37about to say, so how do you do that? Do you say,
- 26:38Okay, the way you get me to decorate is ordering my cake? Well,
- 26:44no, see, I only do that retreat. So that's a good
- 26:47point. So I only do that retreat. So if somebody say, hey,
- 26:48I need a dozen the treats, where I don't sell treats separately,
- 26:52you have to purchase a cake. Another thing I did struggle with with saying
- 26:57no, Like you just have to be okay with saying though, if I
- 27:00got ten orders that week and that week and you want a cake and treats
- 27:06and this and that. I can't be available for treats, cake and decorating.
- 27:10I just had to be okay with saying I can't take any more orders.
- 27:12So that was a big struggle for me. And then another struggle for
- 27:15me was also just just being patient weigh my term and saying like, Okay,
- 27:25yes I do look at other you know, bakers and you know them
- 27:29and seeding. Of course, all of us who create does that. You
- 27:32know, Yeah, somebody is this scene. You wanna know? What can
- 27:33you do to get to that level? Yeah? But I just had to
- 27:36be patient and wait my term, you know, especially with working with celebrities
- 27:38and how all that started. I'm just gonna tell you I was in a
- 27:44really really quiet place. I'm not gonna say a dark place, but quiet
- 27:47place with my business. It was my quiet season. I had just stopped
- 27:51working because I was working a full time job. Yeah why bacon cakes.
- 27:55But I had just stopped working and then I had a major surgery. And
- 28:00when I had that major surgery, it was like God sent me down and
- 28:03said, all right, it's time to talk. You know. COVID hit
- 28:06of course, Yeah, And when I say you have to work within your
- 28:08avenue. You have to work within your avenue. Because I'm doing pictures for
- 28:14kids. I was also doing events for kids. You know, if you
- 28:18bake kates, you know you want people to know that you bake cakes.
- 28:22But you also you don't want to be left behind. So I was like,
- 28:26well, I'm not making any money with just baking cakes, so let
- 28:27me do something else to make some money. So that happened. But God
- 28:32sent me down. He talked, I'm talking about he put a whooping on
- 28:34my spirit. I'm not even playing with child. I never stopped telling this
- 28:38story. Tell it. I never stopped telling this story. Y'all saw you
- 28:42had Kayla here, Yes, I did. I love her about two weeks
- 28:47ago and me and Kayla we were very acquainted. She invited me to church.
- 28:53And this was so I had my surgery. I'n't want to say two
- 28:56thousand, what is this, twenty twenty four, twenty one, twenty two,
- 29:02one of the years. Anyways, it was whatever year. But I
- 29:07was just in a quiet place with my business. It was June, matter
- 29:11of fact when I had my surgery, alright. My recovery time was six
- 29:15weeks after that six week period. Of course, if I'm not doing something
- 29:19for that month, how can I do something for the next month. So
- 29:22I was like, I can't force myself to get up and try to,
- 29:25you know, start baking again, So what can I do? Well?
- 29:27Anyways, Caln reached out to me, Me and a couple of more old
- 29:30people. Not just gonna say me specifically, but she reached out. When
- 29:33she reached out, saying in church and was a whole bunche. I remember
- 29:37that she reached out to me, and I took on the offer because I
- 29:42I wasn't struggling with my religious life. I wasn't struggling with my spiritual beliefs,
- 29:48but I was struggling with going to church, m finding the stable church
- 29:52home. And you know, of course we wanna blame COVID for saying,
- 29:56uh, this is why we're not in church, cause church is just different
- 29:59now. But I struggled with going to church, and I started, you
- 30:03know, just not going, just saying I can get church at home.
- 30:07I believe in God, He know my heart this and that. But anyway,
- 30:10it's Kaylin invited me to church, and God put a whipping in my
- 30:12spirit. He told me, He told me I was selfish. He told
- 30:17me I was feeding an empty wound. He just was. He was just
- 30:21the things that Apostle Davis was prophesying about. Everything that he was prophesying about.
- 30:26He whooped me with them words because I needed to hear that I was.
- 30:30I grew up in church. It's no reason why my kids went to
- 30:33church while my hood, you know, us as a married couple wasn't in
- 30:36church. I'm not gonna say we didn't go to church, but it was
- 30:37like it was nearly about three times we had went to church that year,
- 30:41and all the other sundays it was just at home. And it was ridiculous.
- 30:45So how can I want a business? How can I want Seeds of
- 30:48Life? And I am about to walk off the set and I'm not doing
- 30:53anything to get those things. I'm gonna pause on amble right now because I
- 30:57am about to throw something at I am about to walk off this set.
- 31:03Because you are taught, you are on a topic. You are on a
- 31:07topic that is really near to my heart. Because a lot of people say
- 31:14I always tell this story. My coach was like we were in like a
- 31:18marketing session or whatever, and she was like, oh, Jessica what you
- 31:22say like, and I was like, I don't know, Like I'm trying
- 31:23to figure it out. She's like, why don't you just sell Jesus?
- 31:26I don't like, why would you put that on me? Like what that
- 31:29look like or whatever? But this is what it looked like. And so
- 31:32if I because I've honored God in church, I can under God outside outside
- 31:37of church is somewhere we're equipped. And it's like, you can't annoying what
- 31:41you do without going to the storehouse exactly, like we try to do it
- 31:45backwards, and then what are we do when we don't go to church normally?
- 31:48We don't do it time, Yeah, normally if that goes together,
- 31:52and so like for people, let's tap into that. For people that are
- 31:59in the stage of I don't think I need church. I don't think church
- 32:02is a big deal, or wise church a big deal. What would you
- 32:07say to them? And what made I know? He said they said whooping.
- 32:08But some of my some of my people don't understand the whole whooping thing,
- 32:12or they think they can't hear God, or when they hear something,
- 32:15they're questioning if they're hearing God, like can you take us back to that
- 32:16place? And and really talk about how that, how that impacted you,
- 32:22not only you, your family. Well, I'm gonna say this, it's
- 32:25an old saying. If you can't sleep and like God is trying to talk
- 32:29to you, that's a very old saying. So if you talsing and turning
- 32:32every night, just go to God in praid or listen to what he's trying
- 32:36to say. But honestly, when I say he put a whooping on my
- 32:39spirit because I needed that, a spiritual whooping is not just saying he put
- 32:45me through trauma and it afitted me. Like he literally like said what I've
- 32:52been trying to tell you, I'm gonna let human man tell you so you
- 32:57can hear it. So that's exactly what happened. That's exactly what I manifested.
- 33:02I let me tell y'all how I got in touch with with Queen Lee
- 33:06or one day I was just you know, in big The surgery I had
- 33:09was a hysterectomy, so of course I was bed reading for you know,
- 33:14wow, But I reached out to Queenly or you know, in specifical just
- 33:16sponsoring like her babyshower cake. Right all right, So you know, uh,
- 33:22these days we're big on manifesting. You know, we were big with
- 33:24were vocalizing how we manifest. So that was manifest manifestation for me. Of
- 33:30just reaching out to her. I was like, she probably not gonna you
- 33:31know, that girl got like a thousand other people writing her, She's not
- 33:36gonna write me back. Well I did that and I went into prayer.
- 33:39Next thing I know, she wrote me back. So it was after the
- 33:45church thing, not even say church thing, but this spiritual whooping happened.
- 33:49I can't honestly say if you're struggling with you know, going to church or
- 33:52just knowing what the Lord is saying to you, just listen. Take the
- 33:55time out to listen. You don't have to listen to him. You don't
- 33:59have to go on the bow and just look for a specific scripture. Sometimes
- 34:02just as we're speaking to each other. I have had so many talks with
- 34:07people and I'll have went into a prayer and said, hey, Lord that
- 34:10then the third and then the next person I talked to will come and say
- 34:13what I just prayed for it. So sometimes it's just a small ear or
- 34:16a small word that gets you through to what the Lord has been trying to,
- 34:21you know, reveal to you, it's hard out here trying to you
- 34:23know, be an entrepreneur, trying to be a human, trying to be
- 34:27an adult, just being of this world. It's hard, but you need
- 34:30God and you can't get away from that word. I'm not gonna say I
- 34:34veered away from it because it's in me. But it had to show wasn't
- 34:38priority. It had to be a priority that and I think that is where
- 34:45a lot of people are because what church does, it's a community. It's
- 34:51like being a part of some more. Yes, so it's like being around
- 34:58like many people just like you said, you said you all a little different
- 35:00bakers or anything. You're not doing this to compare, but doing it to
- 35:05be in the community. So you can always be developing, sharpening your gifts.
- 35:08There's always different skills, skills to be learned. People are elevating.
- 35:14I mean, even let's talk about basketball, so I can say I'm smart
- 35:16a little big even the game of basketball or any sport. Brother, there's
- 35:21always different techniques, even coaching, coaching tools or anything like that. These
- 35:24kids not the same or these people not the same, were always evolving.
- 35:30Things are always being passed down. And so what church is this community whereas
- 35:35we evolve, there's a community that can with can support Thank you, Holy
- 35:39Spirit, there's a community that can support you in that. And so basically
- 35:45what I heard was that I was good with God, I was good with
- 35:50the word, but I wasn't good with the support. And you needed the
- 35:53support, you know what. You pulled it out of me because I had
- 35:59a church, but Refresh was in my church home. I was actually a
- 36:05member of another church. And it's no that that was a home church,
- 36:08that was a family church. I had to find my own path. I
- 36:13had to find my own path for my own family. So being a part
- 36:16of Refresh and it was just like all right, in order for you to
- 36:20evolve as a person, as a woman, and you know, as you
- 36:22know a holy figure, go to your on your own path with life,
- 36:28go to your your own path with you know, your own church. So
- 36:30when I found Refresh, we joined, I want to say we joined New
- 36:35Year's and that the day she invited me. It was like it had to
- 36:39be wintertime. So I joined like two months after afterwards, after that did
- 36:45invite because you felt full? I was very full. He nurtured me that
- 36:52day and I couldn't turn away from it. I could not turn away from
- 36:55that. It was just something that end every day. It continue reveal,
- 37:00reveal, revealed even in my household. My children love going to it,
- 37:04but not only that, within my marriage. You know, it's revealing.
- 37:07We're maturing, you know, we're developing, it's blossoming. So to see
- 37:14that I was sowing, like you said, I didn't have that support.
- 37:15I'm not gonna say I didn't have that support, but it wasn't for me
- 37:20at the time. This is this is amber you are freeing somebody today.
- 37:24I'm so proud of you. Like y'all don't know, she bakes, She
- 37:29don't do too much talking, and she poetic with her words the words.
- 37:32So this is good. So the support you have to be supported by people
- 37:40who can manage supporting you. I am not going to get coach Saban to
- 37:47teach me how to play basketball. He can't support me being a basketball player.
- 37:53Right, I'm calling your husband. Shot at the coach end up building.
- 37:58Okay, I couldn't let that slide. Okay, shut it clean,
- 38:01Coach be clean, Coach John's be clean. All right, back to the
- 38:06program, y'all gotta listen. He and his support and his wife okay,
- 38:12so let's listen. I don't know thus God for that. I received that
- 38:15in the spirit all right, But the support has to match the need.
- 38:22Almost listen, I felt my shun don't come all okay. One. The
- 38:27support has to match the need. And you needed support in something you had
- 38:31never seen before. You needed support in somewhere you had never been before.
- 38:37And if I hear you correctly, I don't know if you've ever been in
- 38:40a space where you've seen entrepreneurs thrive. Right, we see in our culture
- 38:45because we're from the same side. What I seen more of is our wonderful
- 38:52friends doing it and not our beautiful friends. Right, our beautiful friends were
- 38:57saying, Hey, I gotta get this job, this jo, this job,
- 39:00I gotta work for this person, this person, this person, and
- 39:02our wonderful fans was like, I'm making these jobs. I'm making it happen.
- 39:07Right. We had then experienced that, and so we had to get
- 39:10around some people that say, hey, I can support you, because I've
- 39:15been there, I can support you. I had to go to the podcast
- 39:20SUMI because I didn't have nobody to support me in it. Not to say
- 39:24people weren't doing it, but I or people weren't the entrepreneurs. But in
- 39:29the lane that I'm in, I had to be supported. So that makes
- 39:32churches no different. It's not church. And if the church is not working
- 39:36for you, go somewhere else. People really work. My last nerves scared
- 39:42about going somewhere. Don't be scared about stepping out the box because, like
- 39:45I said, it was a family church. But you know, family can
- 39:47stop you from doing a lot of things. Amber ooh, Amber, you
- 39:52want me to throw this pillow. If you you are talking, good woman
- 39:58of God, family will will hold you back. The loyalty will hold you
- 40:01back. That that's the word. So we're gonna we're gonna scratch family.
- 40:05We're gonna say the loyalty because I don't want anybody to say, well,
- 40:07she got problems with her family. No, that ain't what she said though.
- 40:10It is the loyalty. It will hold you back. And it did.
- 40:15When I broke loyalty and went to where I'm going. You know,
- 40:20it made me bigger. You have to when you're trying to develop in life,
- 40:24you have to expand. You have to expand. You can't be so
- 40:27in a small box. I was a Baptist church going girl, not a
- 40:30not an old You know you're tapping your foot. You know you're making your
- 40:35own beat. What you tapping your foot? Let me tell you so I
- 40:38was when I get the church. I don't play with God. I tapped
- 40:40my feet and I praise and I worship. Now I may not stand up,
- 40:44he may stand he may say slap your neighbor, and I may not
- 40:46do that. But you know, I don't play with the Lord. But
- 40:50one thing I can't say was I was limiting myself because and I'm not gonna
- 40:53say because just because I was going to a small church. But it was
- 40:57because, like sometimes I say out my mouth verbatim, I say, well
- 41:00I don't like big churches. I'll say that, and that's wrong with that
- 41:05was wrong with me to say because now I go to a big church,
- 41:07and I'm proud of the big church that I go to. And the reason
- 41:09I'm saying is because, like I have went into doors that I never thought
- 41:15that I'll be in. Like like in the beginning, we've been saying I've
- 41:19been a basketball player my mom. But who's the saying I'm a celebrity cake
- 41:22baker Like I have baked, say celebrity cake baker like I've baked cake.
- 41:29I have set in in kitchens of celebrities, like big time legends, and
- 41:35that's like little old me. Shout out to Ricky smiling because I saw you
- 41:38you did that. I was so happy. And I literally sit in that
- 41:44lady's house for about two hours and it was just being acquainted with her,
- 41:49just you know, helping her, you know, decorate set up for her
- 41:52daughter. I was doing the Money's graduation cake. And you know, she
- 41:58was open, like it wasn't like, Okay, you did what you was
- 42:00supposed to do. Leave. You know, she was very friendly and I'm
- 42:02appreciate shout out to her because she could have waved me off, like no,
- 42:06I don't want no pictures. You know, she's a big time celebrity,
- 42:07like she's in Blalls news every day, not only blogs news, but
- 42:10that lady has a whole entrepreneurial line for herself. So shout out to her.
- 42:15Not only her. I don't done a lot, but Ruben Stutter,
- 42:19you know, speaking with him. You know the basketball girl, the one
- 42:22that's in l s U Well, Angel Resas. I don't know her name,
- 42:28but yes, she's in she's bringing out basketball. I'm not gonna say
- 42:34her, but just how women's basketball it's going these days is what it used
- 42:38to be when I was playing basketball. So shout out to her, Shout
- 42:42out to many other you know, college basketball players on that level. You
- 42:45know, it's getting back to what we have. But you know, I
- 42:47literally wrote her and said, Hey, I'm trying to get you a cake.
- 42:51How can I get it to you? She didn't write back the first
- 42:53time. The second time, the reason I wrote her is because she posted
- 42:58said she was gonna be in Atlanta one or two hours away. Let me
- 43:00hop on this. Wrote her again. I said, Hey, I'm trying
- 43:04to get you a cake for your birthday. How can I you know,
- 43:06you know, get it to you? She said, hey, text this
- 43:07number, and the number she gave me, I texted, wrote her and
- 43:13it was actually fly Jay's mom number. That's a young chocolate lady. Okay
- 43:17rapper, big folk, shout out to big Folk. But I wrote her
- 43:22on her mom, you know me, and her mom was very sweet,
- 43:24very accomed day. Got the cake down there to her, and she text
- 43:29me back and gave me some inspirational words, you know, telling me how
- 43:31good the cake was. Stay a course of what I'm doing. No,
- 43:36I'm just literally stepping doors that I've never seen myself. I couldn't imagine myself
- 43:42doing this. Now I knew I was gonna be big. Now with cakes,
- 43:47what I did I was, you know, like, I don't talk.
- 43:53I'm not a big talker. I can write you and you know it
- 43:57could be deep, but I'm not a big talk But I can't honestly say
- 44:01I'm starting to be more confident in myself because you know, I have to
- 44:05do that, especially with the level that I don't know where I'm trying to
- 44:07go in life. I can't say that as an entrepreneur right now. I
- 44:12can't. Yes, I want to do cakes, but I don't know where
- 44:15cakes is going to lead me to. But it has led me into some
- 44:17of you know, a situation that I can see myself being a travel cake
- 44:22baker, you know, with celebrities, or just you know, continue to
- 44:25doing what I'm doing. I can sell a cake from home all day.
- 44:30I'm fine with that. As long as I'm able to get to my kids,
- 44:32my husband and still little lifestyle that i want to live, I'm fine
- 44:36with that. But I want to do at the right race. So now
- 44:38what I'm trying to do is make sure that I'm doing everything the right way.
- 44:43You know, just because I have a gift. You know, we
- 44:45off the earth, so we got to do it right. So I want
- 44:49to make sure you know my license stay up today. I want to make
- 44:51sure that you know I'm paying my tax, you know, doing those things.
- 44:53So everything is just falling in line, falling the course. But like
- 44:58I said, when I start to obey and I started to walk the path
- 45:01that the Lord said, I was like, I'll never forget me. And
- 45:05mister Smiley, that's what I call him, we were sitting in his living
- 45:09room. We were talking. I said. He was saying, you know,
- 45:13what did you do? I said, I used to play basketball.
- 45:15Of course, it's gonna be the first thing that I speak of because that's
- 45:16what I used to do. I said, But I also I went to
- 45:20school. I was an artist. And I said, you know, God,
- 45:22you know he works in funny ways because he had Rick Smiley had just
- 45:28sat there and said, you this is art. You know what you're doing,
- 45:31this is art. And I said, well, you know, just
- 45:34for you saying, I said, God works some mysterious right, because I
- 45:36actually went to school and I took art now that was my major. And
- 45:39he was like, well, he said, God led you down another path
- 45:43to do art. He said, because this right here, what you're doing
- 45:45is art. And I was just simply decorating his table like I wasn't doing
- 45:49at the big but in his hindsight that was big to him. Don't mean
- 45:52to me who won't decorate? Yeah, not me. I can't decorate with
- 45:57nobody. I can't even decorate an outfit. This you gonna get that,
- 46:01Okay. I think it's beautiful because no, first of all, you gotta
- 46:06have so much patience, you gotta you gotta focus in my creative mind go
- 46:09everywhere. I don't know how to slow it down, Like I don't know
- 46:13how to slow it down just yet. But decorating patient, poise and creative
- 46:19like using it. Man, girl, that's not that's not little. That
- 46:23table was beautiful. I remember that table. The proof is on. You
- 46:28might have scroll down a little bit. I think it was no November,
- 46:30wouldn't Thanksgiving? And he put it on his page too, And if you
- 46:34follow her, she might have it on her page, like the snippet of
- 46:36it. Baby that baby went to the house to decorate first of all folks
- 46:39got money who decorated for Thanksgiving? But that's your listen, that she got
- 46:45paid for that gear. She was annoying for the gear. I ain't mad
- 46:50at it. It's all about networking too, because somebody actually referred me like
- 46:54something one of my clients that I did a cake for and decorated for them,
- 46:58which is she's acquainted with you, knowing his people, so she referred
- 47:01me. And you know that happened like out of nowhere, and you have
- 47:05to always be ready. That's another thing you got to be ready with just
- 47:08being an entrepreneur. You can't say, y'all do cakes and then a celebrity
- 47:13or somebody reach out to you and you don't have You can't say what I
- 47:15don't get the opportunity and you be like, oh no, I'm scared.
- 47:20I had to jump on it. Listen, Yeah, I can do it.
- 47:22Let me let me call up who I rent from. Let me let
- 47:24me hurry up and get on it. Give me give me about ten minutes.
- 47:28I'll be back with you. Yeah, I can do it. Don't
- 47:30worry about it. I got whatever you need and I didn't have whatever I
- 47:32needed, but I was ready. Listen, this is this is so good
- 47:37because people say it was like people like feel like, oh I'm better than
- 47:39this person, or I'm because the comparison thing happened as much as we did.
- 47:44We try to ignore it or whatever, but it's like, how are
- 47:46you getting their rooms? Not only do I have a gift, but I
- 47:50have willingness to attach to it. You've been saying, like what people don't
- 47:53understand. I hope y'all are hearing this, she said the Amber Rose Amber
- 47:58Anglia. Dude, you it's right. I was sorry, Angelies, I'm
- 48:10helpless. I'm trying to preach and get the condrelated wrong now Angela, angel
- 48:17angel Okay, that is so. I'm gonna be eighty years old. College
- 48:22freaking sometimes, Oh my god. Ms Reese was two hours away from you,
- 48:28and you were willing to go. Rick Smiling needed decorating, and you
- 48:35didn't have the material, but you're still willing to go. I can only
- 48:37imagine how many more stories you have where you didn't have at the time,
- 48:43but your willingness made room for you. Not just the gifts, but her
- 48:50willingness. The gift is always gonna go with where you go because you you,
- 48:54but your willingness has to be there with it. So it's like the
- 48:59twin where have you been in situation? My willingness has to match the anointing,
- 49:04anointing or my gift, that expansion of it, because once I become
- 49:07unwilling, the gift don't matter, y'all. I hope y'all heal me,
- 49:12hearing me good. Once your gift out, once your gift outweighs the willingness,
- 49:16it doesn't matter. So now what does that willingness come from? Were
- 49:20talking about the Lord faith, right, so now you now your now,
- 49:24your faith can't get smaller unless you don't continue to build on what you've been
- 49:29already doing. Elbo. I'm just saying the churchy way what you're saying the
- 49:34hood tho. It's that is so that it's so powerful. So one of
- 49:40the things I really want to bring up while you're here, because you've talked
- 49:44about how important your family is to you, and I really, I really
- 49:47think that you don't even realize how much your breaking curses by doing it right,
- 49:54That's true. I'm real big on saying we got to stop saying we're
- 50:00breaking generational curses. And I'm not saying that to you, but I'm just
- 50:05saying that as a society because I always look at it the fact our parents
- 50:09did the best that they could when they could. You know, if you
- 50:13had a traumatic experience, I'm sorry, but my mom did the best she
- 50:16could. So I can't say I'm breaking a generational curse, but I can
- 50:21say I'm opening doors for them that my mom could open for me because my
- 50:28mom was a single parent. I mean, I came from a single parent
- 50:31household, no father figure, you know. But God kept me in a
- 50:36path and I did it stray. One thing I can say that I did
- 50:40as a child and as a teenager, I always kept the Lord first.
- 50:46Everything I did. If we in the car, we listening to gospel music
- 50:51as a as a you know, as a teenager, yeah, I was
- 50:54real OCD. I gotta read my scripture in the morning, you know.
- 50:58And that's what I meant when I say that's my path, you know,
- 51:00leading to my adult you know life. However, but as far as generational
- 51:06curses, I'm not breaking in because I don't really have curses on my life,
- 51:08you know. But it stopped when it got to me, when it
- 51:12got to certain things that I could not do, you know, being able
- 51:15to afford certain things. So now my kids, I still can't afford certain
- 51:20things. But what happened is I'm walking in the doors that they would be
- 51:23able to walk in when they get older. But those doors will be so
- 51:27much bigger. But just saying, like when I went down those roads,
- 51:30just saying, when I went to Atlanta or Mississippi or Tennessee, those things,
- 51:36I probably had fifty dollars in my pocket to gotate those people that cake,
- 51:38get real, that was free. Those responsored they didn't pay me.
- 51:44I'm gonna say all of them didn't pay, but have majority of them was
- 51:46to pay for it was just to get my name out there. Those were
- 51:50free. So just to say my kids could say my mom dedicate for Ajuries,
- 51:54my mom dedicate for Ricu Smith. Those are opening doors for them that
- 52:00they'll never be able to open. You know, they'll be able to open,
- 52:02but it may not be with a cake. It may be with something
- 52:06else, something else, but it may not be with a cake. So
- 52:08what I'm saying is I have done I have been the first to do a
- 52:14lot of things in my family, and I'm grateful for it. The first
- 52:16to graduate from college, the first to do a lot. I can't even
- 52:22think, but just to say, I've been the first to just say it
- 52:24stopped when it got to me. Cursed. As far as we want to
- 52:28say generational curses, just saying a black shadow or a black cloud over you
- 52:31know my family, I can say I broke that. So that's the only
- 52:36generational curse. So while you were talking, this is so good, and
- 52:40I'm glad you challenged me on it. Right, this is so good because
- 52:45even while you were talking, this is what I heard that sometimes we can
- 52:51limit the generational curses and blessings to our bloodline. And I need you to
- 52:57understand how big you are amber to hear you, because I know you you're
- 53:00confident, but I'm finla boost it up a little bit more. Sometimes we
- 53:07you know, when we hear the older people say, oh, this generation
- 53:10don't do this, and this generation don't do this. So when we're talking,
- 53:14they're talking about the generation. They're talking about an age group, they're
- 53:16talking about the surroundings. They're talking about the people that we fellowship with.
- 53:22When I say and I think and thank you, thank you. When I'm
- 53:24saying that, I'm not even just talking about your family. I'm talking about
- 53:29your peers. I'm talking about your church members. I'm talking about the people
- 53:34that see you grinding and seeing the fruit of your labor. When I say
- 53:39that, you're breaking that because it is a curse, like it is curses
- 53:45and maybe it's an infection. We'll compare it into an infection, right,
- 53:51and the territories that we have come from that we have grown up around to
- 53:57cure the infection. You got to see something different. You're that cure.
- 54:01I appreciate that. No, I mean that, like I ain't even saying
- 54:06that just to be nice because seeing what you do and you're welcome. Sorry
- 54:09that was so rude, but you're that cure. And if we can have
- 54:16more Embers, if we can have more even jazzmines, even for her to
- 54:20go back to you know, Fairfield where she played, you know, to
- 54:22be coaching, like that's a cure. And sometimes we manifest and we focus
- 54:30so much in on the disease and not the cure. And Babe Amble Jones
- 54:38aka the k Lady because it's sweet Jones, ain't it We have not said,
- 54:45Joe, We have not said it. Y'all need to know where y'all
- 54:47can go get these kates from the Sweet Sweet Jones aka the Kate Lady k
- 54:55Lady. So that's what I heard when we we were talking about the generational
- 55:00curses. As far as your family, I know we were talking about your
- 55:07faith, and I think you touched on it a little bit when we were
- 55:09talking about the curses. But as far as your let's even talk about your
- 55:14your daughter and how you're even seeing her developed and her develop a love or
- 55:21a passion for you know, a basketball specifically because that's what I see online,
- 55:24but even maybe doing something else. How do you feel like that's impacting
- 55:29her? And how do you feel like you're because of your experiences, you're
- 55:31able to give her a better outlook on like her passion and dream about even
- 55:36basketball. Just a touch basis back on generational curses else, a situation happened
- 55:43I'll say about two weeks ago in her game where the coach said something kind
- 55:47of that I didn't like, and it kind of triggered me because it was
- 55:52said to me also as a child. I mean, you know as a
- 55:55teenager when I was playing basketball, Well, I could being a curse on
- 56:00her by saying you're not playing for him anymore. You know, we don't
- 56:06you know I could have just stopped her all the way from playing with you
- 56:09know, I talked to her. You know, as parents we do a
- 56:12lot of things. This generation, we do a lot of talking versus you
- 56:15know, just just ripping the band aid out saying you ain't you know,
- 56:20being authoritated to say, because we got authority, we're gonna take you off
- 56:22the sea. But I actually talked to him, so I can't say,
- 56:27honestly, she she's going she she's she's going through what I went through at
- 56:30an early age. And I'm being smart about it. And I thank God
- 56:35that he's given me the discernment of don't affect her life because of you what
- 56:39you went through as a ball player. So everything she's going through as a
- 56:44ballplayer and everything she's developing, she's doing it on her own. I'm just
- 56:50you know, I'm not cahursing her to, you know, say this is
- 56:53how you do it, this is how I did it. Be like me.
- 56:58Never, I never. I don't want her to be nothing like me.
- 57:01Be your own person. She looks up to me. She want to
- 57:05wear my shoes, she want to wear my clothes, She want to know
- 57:08what number I was, because she want to wear that number. I don't
- 57:12want you to be like me. I want you to be ten times better
- 57:15than it'sself, go to higher levels that I could not go. Like I
- 57:19said, my biggest dream was to be in a w NBA. Yeah,
- 57:22she wants to be in a w NBA. And the path that girls basketball
- 57:28is on in this generation she has she right now, she has the ability
- 57:32to play overseas and do many things. The skill of my daughter is just
- 57:37in the fifth grade. She the skill level will develop in her right now
- 57:40on like she surpassed girls her age group. She's about talking about your height
- 57:45a little under you. She's tall. She's tall. She's my height,
- 57:51literally my height in the side, six and a half in the fifth grade.
- 57:54Because I was surprised that you said she was in fifth grade, So
- 57:57I was like, oh, I thought she was a little No. No,
- 57:59she's just in the fifth grade and she's playing on a she plays with
- 58:02six and seven graders, so she's doing good. Like like I said,
- 58:07to speak about generation the curson in the circle of life, I'm just not
- 58:10trying to be that parent. I'm very I'm not saying I'm strict, but
- 58:15I'm none tolerance parents when it comes to just these kids getting away with not
- 58:20being held accountable, not you know, knowing right from wrong. I'm not
- 58:24the type of parents, especially with females. And I have a son.
- 58:28I got two girls and one other, and I just don't play those games.
- 58:31I'm very old school, but I don't play games. But I also
- 58:35do the little things, do things differently, Like i'ma you know, tolerate
- 58:39a few things more than Mama tolerate. But I'm not with that South parenting
- 58:44and stuff like that. But she she's actually she's surpassing me right now in
- 58:49basketball. I can't honestly say that you said that in such a healthy manner.
- 58:54Well, very much. I don't want to be the parent to ever
- 58:58say my child is gonna be like me because I did it this way.
- 59:01Me and her daddy are teaching her. But I don't want us. I
- 59:06always tell my daughter, I don't want our voices to be the only voices
- 59:09you learn from. M That's not the way of life, because you're gonna
- 59:15have many coaches of life. You're gonna have many scenarios that you go through.
- 59:19Like not just her, but all of my kids are engaged with basketball.
- 59:23They loved basketball. I my mama did not put on me that you
- 59:27had to play a sport in order to succeed in life. She didn't say,
- 59:30we'll pick up a ball and do this. So that's not what I
- 59:32forced my girls or my boy to do. Just because you know, we're
- 59:37you know, beautifully black. We we have that advantage of playing sports.
- 59:42No, I didn't say that. But they just naturally developed the habit of
- 59:45playing sports, playing basketball. And once she said, hey, Mom,
- 59:49I wanna play basketball, let's go, let's do it. Of course I
- 59:52started to train her, but I didn't train her in the way of you
- 59:54gonna do this, I demand you to do this. No. She to
- 59:59this day she had her attitudes about certain things. She don't some days,
- 1:00:02I don't want to work. Some days I want to have it. I
- 1:00:06just want to be a kid. What be a kid? I can't fuss
- 1:00:07at you for you just in the field. Great. So she surpassed me,
- 1:00:12and I'm proud to say, like she's gonna be, She's gonna she's
- 1:00:15gonna have a name by high school. She's gonna have That's so good.
- 1:00:20I think that's even healthy, because not even just the parent, that's only
- 1:00:28overly assertive in the area, but even being like the fact that you said
- 1:00:34she's gonna be better than you, and you say it in such like a
- 1:00:38a real truthful, humble manner, because I've heard I've been around people that
- 1:00:44said they their family, their own mom told them that they would never be
- 1:00:50better than them, and that's painful. Like I'm caring it for thirty years
- 1:00:55and it's always in the back of my mind. So I'm always trying to
- 1:00:59prove that theory yourself wrong and try to say, Okay, it's not that
- 1:01:02I'm trying to be better than you, but I'm trying to be valuable.
- 1:01:06I'm trying to be an asset where you better twein what have you been?
- 1:01:10Yes? No, I couldn't imagine now one thing I do get. Like
- 1:01:15I said, I'm not an emotional person. It takes a lot for me
- 1:01:17to cry. I probably can carry tons of bricks on my back and don't
- 1:01:22fall, But when it comes to those kids, that's a different type of
- 1:01:25parent, that's a different type of person. Like wo, I never thought
- 1:01:30I'd shed a tear, but when it comes to my kids, like I'll
- 1:01:32shed many tears. I understand why Jesus went when it come to kids like
- 1:01:37so, no, I have a different tolerance level when it comes to just
- 1:01:40mankind about children. So my kids are about that, I may fuss,
- 1:01:46I may curse, Lord knows I curse. Yeah, you aint the only
- 1:01:51one. I'm still getting baptized in the cleaning of my tongue. Earlier today,
- 1:01:58girl, I was like, oh, I got, I gotta,
- 1:02:00I gotta get this hood out of me real quick because it's lingo. Like,
- 1:02:06I'm okay with cursing, like it's it's a health it's healthy. I'm
- 1:02:10trying it slipped out to ease for me. You're just not going to curse
- 1:02:15everybody out, No, not that, But I was cousin like more than
- 1:02:17so for me, cursing. Its interesting that we're getting to this subject right
- 1:02:22now, but cursing for me, and I think it is for anybody's difference.
- 1:02:27I think that, yeah, cursing is the language blah blah blah.
- 1:02:29I say the hood just to be funny. But for me, because of
- 1:02:32where I want to be and where I'm going, I want to use I
- 1:02:37use cursing because I can't find another word. And I've challenged, I personally
- 1:02:43challenged myself to literally find other words so I can make sure that I'm not
- 1:02:49offending anybody when I'm talking to them. But if I'm around certain people,
- 1:02:52they don't get offended. Okay, cool, but even them, It's like,
- 1:02:58I want to always be evolved with my vocabulary and not limiting myself with
- 1:03:04frustrating anger words that your surroundings don't be triggered. Yo, that's the ray.
- 1:03:14She was talking really good, good, like super good. Okay.
- 1:03:21I think I learned a lot today. I I definitely learned, and I'm
- 1:03:28gonna tell you something that I'm taking with me from this whole conversation. Earlier,
- 1:03:34you brought up the fact that the way you bake, how you get
- 1:03:38your taste is is just you follow instructions and then you when it will you
- 1:03:43allow yourself to use your creativity for the look the design. Right. That
- 1:03:50freed me right there, because what I heard was I put my focus in
- 1:04:00what I'm good at and I allow the other things just to be right.
- 1:04:06And I think, like why in my mind, I'm like, girl,
- 1:04:11why wouldn't you try different recipes? Why wouldn't you do this? Because you're
- 1:04:14the Kate lady? He was like, and you kept and I heard you,
- 1:04:16and I'm just coming back to it. I'm like, oh, yah,
- 1:04:19you bake kates. No, you're a cake designer. Let me put
- 1:04:25some respect on your name, like yo, you then niche all the way
- 1:04:29down and I'm gonna receive that for myself because it's just like being in this
- 1:04:36lane where like I said earlier, we don't have we haven't had the opportunities
- 1:04:41traditionally to see different things, being exposed to different things, and baby be
- 1:04:45able to niche down right. I think that's a scary thing. But you're
- 1:04:50doing it so boldly because it's easy to say, oh, I bake cakes.
- 1:04:57It's not easy to say that I designed case. It's like, how
- 1:04:59are you going to that the caken not bake it? It's like, but
- 1:05:02you kept like you kept me on that tip and I'm like, I can't
- 1:05:06let her miss out that I learned a lot and that is my biggest takeaway.
- 1:05:13That is my biggest takeaway. That's why you are the cure. You
- 1:05:17are the cure. Girl. I enjoyed this conversation and I appreciate you for
- 1:05:23allowing me to be you know, your first talk. I feel like it's
- 1:05:28talk to anybody now or no I'm just you ain't gonna be comfortable with nobody.
- 1:05:33We're gonna have to do this again, Mike, I'm sor ready to.
- 1:05:39But you did a good job. This is a safe space and you
- 1:05:44feel very comfortable. I did. I did tell the folks you felt comfortable.
- 1:05:46I felt very comfortable, and I'm super proud of you. Look,
- 1:05:51I tried to do much research before I came, because you know, you
- 1:05:56could follow someone on Facebook social media and you can also lose sight of what
- 1:06:00they're doing. But to be honest, like the times that we have been
- 1:06:04acquainted and met, like this is your path. So I'm very proud of
- 1:06:09you. This is not normal in Birmingham, Like a lot of people are
- 1:06:14not sitting here doing entrepreneurs talking to them, you know, getting the norm
- 1:06:17or you know, just in this setting. And this is, like you
- 1:06:21said, a safe zone. So I'm very grateful that we actually had the
- 1:06:25time to do this. This is well needed, This is this is something
- 1:06:30that I needed to do also to step out my comfort zone. Because I
- 1:06:31also made a goal and said I'm gonna start getting on Facebook live. I
- 1:06:36said this, Oh hold up, you're getting this right? Is still recording?
- 1:06:40Okay, coach you here every Friday. No, I said every Thursday,
- 1:06:45I was gonna get on Facebook live and start doing like tutorials and telling
- 1:06:47what I'm doing with my cakes and things. And I did it, I
- 1:06:50can say honestly four times and haven't done it anymore. And the reason why
- 1:06:55I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna be real about it two reasons why I
- 1:07:00hate the way I talk. That's that's what I mean. I'm just gonna
- 1:07:02be blanking like I hate the way I talk. I found I said,
- 1:07:05I say, I sound like mush mouth sometime, but that's just some of
- 1:07:10confidence thing that I continue to develop and get over with. Secondly, when
- 1:07:14you're getting on there and you're doing stuff that you do in your comfort,
- 1:07:17your lane, it's always somebody who got something negative to say. And somebody
- 1:07:24did have some negative to say something about something simple ass. I was just
- 1:07:27showing. I wasn't touching anything, but I was just showing, like,
- 1:07:30you know, something that I had created. And they came back and told
- 1:07:34my mom she needs to wear gloves, and that brought me wrong. But
- 1:07:39you know what, you just have fun that God is is the same person
- 1:07:45who said that. I turned around and did a cake for their family member
- 1:07:48and they wind up eating the cake, and I made sure I told their
- 1:07:51family member to tell them I didn't wear gloves, but to tell no,
- 1:08:03I knew that was by the way I touched is also a slick comedian.
- 1:08:15Sometimes you have to address things that bother you because, as you said,
- 1:08:19you know, as an entrepreneur, especially when you're being a country creator,
- 1:08:24you have to be mindful what you do on the camera. But you also
- 1:08:27have to be mindful that we are human. You know, everything that doesn't
- 1:08:30need to be said. You know, everybody can't tolerate everything that's being said.
- 1:08:35I'll make it tolerated. But I had to be pity in that moment
- 1:08:40because it was comical, and it was also the fact that you never know
- 1:08:44who you're gonna get something from, yeah, and how they're gonna you know.
- 1:08:47Anyways, I just had to be pitied. No, that girl that
- 1:08:51was that was so that was so good that even the pettiness was good.
- 1:08:58But I want to challenge you, like go live. I will. It's
- 1:09:02no reason, I mean, excuse me, there's no reason why you shouldn't.
- 1:09:08There's no reason why. It's really no reason why you shouldn't. I
- 1:09:11used to get on myself about that as well, and just a transparent moment,
- 1:09:15I can feel you like I sound I feel like I sound like a
- 1:09:18man. I'm like, I just feel like I sound like a man.
- 1:09:24I feel like I don't pronounce my words right, I feel like i' on
- 1:09:27comprehend. I feel like I got ADHD. So I don't have am I
- 1:09:30interviewing people? Let me tell you this. Ooh girl, I'm trying to
- 1:09:34I'm trying to end it, but you just keep pulling on me. So
- 1:09:38watch this Corporate America. Right, So I had this job. I'm gonna
- 1:09:44have to tell that story soon. Had this job. They told me for
- 1:09:48years. They've been telling me for years that I do not interview will right,
- 1:09:55she get all nervous and stuff like that, And yeah, I get
- 1:09:58nervous, like because I I got nervous and tried to get messed up on
- 1:10:01an interview because I was trying to be something that I felt like you wanted
- 1:10:03me to be, not really who I am want to be. So a
- 1:10:08few of them have watched the podcast, and these not just know my coworkers
- 1:10:13know, these higher ups like they loved me or whatever. But I just
- 1:10:15couldn't get bad in an interview right fast forward, I get this podcast.
- 1:10:20I don't want to I don't understand why, you know, Jessica can't be
- 1:10:25the same person that she is in the interview that she is on her platform.
- 1:10:30Well, for one, it's her platform, so she can be who
- 1:10:31she wanted to be in right, and then two I was so it was
- 1:10:38that I was not authentically being myself. So when I had this last interview
- 1:10:42that I had, Oh, you're giving you able to give them the deets,
- 1:10:45I'm I'm gonna give you all the dets on this a little bit more.
- 1:10:47But I changed jobs after or changed positions, so I basically demoted myself
- 1:10:53in the company so I can make more opportunity for this out of beience of
- 1:10:58God right in the interview. During the interview process, you know, I
- 1:11:01had two interviews, and the lady came back and told me because one of
- 1:11:08the things at my job they give us feedback on everything that we do,
- 1:11:13and I was I was waiting for the feedback. She was like, we
- 1:11:15want you. You're so optimistic. I loved your answers. I loved your
- 1:11:21examples, X, Y and Z. I mean, she's just raving.
- 1:11:25So I'm like, okay, I'm ready for the negative. I was like,
- 1:11:30she didn't give me nothing. So she ended up calling me back for
- 1:11:32someone else and I said, ma'am, you gave can you give me my
- 1:11:38feedback for my interview? And she was like, you did amazing. I
- 1:11:43don't have anything to correct you on. So I'm like, so somebody lying.
- 1:11:49Somebody lied because I'm the same chick. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:11:53like, I'm I answered the questions the same way I just had. You
- 1:11:57kind of kind of structured it better a little bit had for examples, but
- 1:12:00it's like, same chick, but I was litt What I'm telling you is
- 1:12:05it's interesting that the thing that they say that I'm bad at, I actually
- 1:12:09have to do. So I was nervous to do the tall with the Browns.
- 1:12:12I'm nervous to go to Atlanta to the podcast. I'm nervous. I
- 1:12:15don't think I speak well, I don't think I sound well. But guess
- 1:12:17what, Guess guess what LK take me take away from me my experience being
- 1:12:24chosen. And I'm telling I'm sitting here telling you you the cure Amber,
- 1:12:29how you gonna be the cure, and you ain't cured curing. The people
- 1:12:32gotta hear your voice. What it says the sheep. The sheep hear my
- 1:12:36voice, and they come running, right, the shepherd. And when Jesus
- 1:12:40is our shepherd, all of ours shepherd, right. But there are even
- 1:12:43shepherds here on earth. Like you were talking about Apostle. Apostle Davis,
- 1:12:47you are attracted to his voice because you are his sheep. There are sheep
- 1:12:51waiting for you to activate your voice. You're speaking listening. I know,
- 1:12:58I just want. I want to. I'm gonna tell you because I'm gonna
- 1:13:00text you and I'll be like, hey, it's Thursday, Tayler. Just
- 1:13:05like how you be in my inbox. I need you want her inbox because
- 1:13:09she she the truth. She definitely will text. Yeah. So Live on
- 1:13:14Thursdays. What we're calling it? Is it some sweet joke Thursdays? Give
- 1:13:17it a name? What did I say? Coach? What she said?
- 1:13:23Because I know you can't remember your on listen sometimes I did. I actually
- 1:13:29gave it a name on on Live. I have to go back and look
- 1:13:32because I didn't delete the unless they deleted themselves. But I did give it
- 1:13:35a name. I did give it a name. So I look forward to
- 1:13:39seeing you on Thursdays live on Thursday. What time can we put you It's
- 1:13:43it varies. It's gonna vary. I can't say I'm gonna be on there
- 1:13:45every Thursday specifically, because sometimes I may not have orders every week, or
- 1:13:50I may get I may get busy with doing something, so it just depends.
- 1:13:55It's another thing with being disciplined. If I say I'm gonna do something,
- 1:13:58I gotta do it. So right now we're on working. Know is
- 1:14:00being disciplined in my word, and I'm actually being disciplined in my word.
- 1:14:04Devoting myself to God every day, every day, every day this summer.
- 1:14:09I have never done so. Every day I'm in the word. I'm devote.
- 1:14:12Kids can't talk to me until I do my scripture. I'm in my
- 1:14:15word every day, so I love it. I'm working. I'm the more
- 1:14:19I've become developed in business, the more I become developed as a person.
- 1:14:24If I want a certain thing, I'm working on doing that certain thing one
- 1:14:27time, one thing a day. Just in that instance, just do that
- 1:14:31one thing. Because if I don't, like you said, I get sidetracked
- 1:14:35too. When it comes to business, I do got adhd because I could
- 1:14:39be talking to one customer and then I'm in basketball practice. Yeah, or
- 1:14:44so because I'm a busy woman, you are you a whole mother, like
- 1:14:47you got three kids and a hoods Hello, that's by itself, and then
- 1:14:51you're talking about some entrepreneur child talk about busy. So I want to give
- 1:14:57you this space because I want to make it better because we talked about a
- 1:14:59lot of things that I'm just like wow, not surprised about the conversation,
- 1:15:02but just thank God for the conversation because I know it's gonna bless somebody.
- 1:15:05So if there's one thing that you would want to lead with people out of
- 1:15:09everything that you said today, what would that one thing be? Know your
- 1:15:14season? Know your season of life as a business person. Of course we're
- 1:15:20talking about business. As a business person, you know you're gonna be very
- 1:15:24inconsistent with business. You're gonna have ups and downs, but don't get down
- 1:15:29to yourself. Consistency is key, not practice makes perfect. Consistency makes perfect.
- 1:15:35Know your season. It may not be your season those people are elevating
- 1:15:40it may be their season. But know your season and know when it's time
- 1:15:43for you to elevate. If you try to elevate during the season, that's
- 1:15:45not for you. You're gonna get rejected, You're gonna get down, you're
- 1:15:49gonna get depressed, and you may not want to come back after that.
- 1:15:53But know your season, and when it's your season, take off. After
- 1:15:56that, take y'all take off. A that's good. I thought you un
- 1:16:01say because you know you say A. And then okay, okay, y'all,
- 1:16:09this has been good. It's it's good. It's good season Birmingham.
- 1:16:13If y'all ain't paid attention, if nobody else is doing it, she said,
- 1:16:16just ask is exposing the good grounds on NIA. So I'm excited Amber,
- 1:16:23y'all gonna see your if I get a kid, Y already know who
- 1:16:25I'm calling. Yes, I am biased, so don't even try. Coach.
- 1:16:30Thank you for coming with your wife. Shout out the coach Desiree's good.
- 1:16:35Seeing you as always y'all until next week. Life could be much more
- 1:16:42simple if you just asked, see y'all later. Thank you for tuning in
- 1:16:51to this week's episode. Since you've made it this far, you might as
- 1:16:56well connect with us on all social media platforms. A deep Jessica s I
- 1:17:00know I won't see you back until next week, but until then, remember
- 1:17:05to love always yourself and always thank thank God for one another day. Hey,
- 1:17:15Hey, I know we could be another way. Hey, pray thank
- 1:17:20God for another day. Hey Hey, I'm just thankful another day. Hey,
- 1:17:30Hey, another day? Oh, another day wise, another day to
- 1:17:34get it right, another day to rise up, another day living, another
- 1:17:39day. We loved ones. I always remember, hold it down for a
