- Adam Rutz: Open loops create mental noise. Every unfinished task, every decision you keep avoiding, every conversation you know you need to have, every little thing you keep telling yourself, I need to remember that. It takes up space. Think about a quarterback who makes a mistake on one play but carries it mentally into the next one. Now he's trying to read the defense while part of his attention is still stuck on what happened 30 seconds ago. You can't perform at your best. When half of your attention is somewhere else. And we do the same thing all day long. We start something, but don't finish it. We know something needs to be scheduled, but we leave it floating around in our head. We keep delaying a decision. We keep thinking, don't forget this, don't forget that. Eventually your brain starts feeling like you have 25 tabs open at once. So start closing loops. When something enters your world, decide what happens next. Finish it, schedule it, delegate it, or eliminate it. Stop carrying every unfinished thing around mentally. Because organization isn't just about being productive. It protects your attention. And attention is one of your greatest performance resources. So here's something to be mindful of today. What is one loop that has been taking up space in your mind? Handle it. Make the decision. Send the message. Put it on the calendar, complete the task, or decide it no longer deserves your attention. Then move forward. A clear mind gives you a better chance to compete with full attention on what matters now. Close the loop. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's mental performance daily.
